Okay so my dad quit smoking ciggs but he now smokes black and milds? -

are the black and mild cigars just as harmful as the cigarettes?
cause he tells me no. but i think otherwise.

any one have good information for me?
Inhaling the black and milds are way worse then cigs.
Cubes
black and milds are still bad....you are definatly inhaling but not as deep into the lungs as you would smoke a cigarettes. Cigars can cause some sort of mouth cancer too. Since cigars dont have filters it can equally or be more bad than cigs.

Try this....try to breath in something without sucking air down your throat. Not doable right? you need to inhale some air down to your lungs so when a person smokes a cigar SMOKE does go down to the lungs
Well there not as bad but still harmful but my aunt stop smoking cigarettes and started smoking cigars she said it going to help her stop smoking completely.
if hes not inhaling the cigars hes ok..but if hes inhaling them..its worse than a cigarette.

I quit meth. I quit smoking. in the last year i gained 70 pounds. Need to lose at least 50! am trying a diet.. -

I was on meth 24/7 for a year.Have now been clean for 1 yr, and quit smoking cigarettes 4 months ago. Have gained so much weight...now excercising, eating dry toast for breakfast, 2 apples for a snack, leancuisine for lunch, an apple and a lowfat granola bar for snack, and another lean cuisine for dinner.I eat dinner around 5:00, jog half a mile, then have another apple.I also have an hypothyroidism which I am on medication for.Is this a healthy diet? Is it low enough in fat and calories that I should lose weight? My eating was out of control, since getting clean, food has taken on a whole new meaning and has never been so good! and of course, since quitting smoking, i ate instead of smoked. now the cravings are under control, but i am up to 200 pounds!hope someone can make some suggestions!
first off I will congratulate in making the right choice that you do want to lose some 200 pounds.

if you do exactly what I tell you, I guarantee you that you will see results.

you must do the following:

1. food.
(a) unhealthy foods - - -please say good bye to any form of unhealthy food including junk foods whatsoever.
(b) healthy foods - - - - please consult with a doctor about nutrition and diets to see what forms of foods you are allowed to eat.
2. liquids.
(a) because you will go to the gym, every single day, you will be required to drink at least a gallons worth of liquids (excluding sodas of any sort and mineral water) such as water, milk, orange juices, etc., etc., etc.
3. exercise
(a) I suggest that you do at least between 2 or 3 miles in the treadmill in which it should be approximate about 40 to 60 minutes
CONGRATS ON BEATING METH! I am very impressed. That is hard to do. If you can do that, you can do anything! I don-t know about your special dietary needs, you might see a dietician, to help you set up a menu for your lifestyle. Also check out the internet for diets that may help! God love ya!!!

jogging a half mile does nothing. I asked my Doc and told her I run 1-1.5 miles and can-t lose weight. She said It more depends on the amount of TIME you spend do cardio work. It needs to be 30-40 min. also get enrolled in college and fill your time. make different friends. and maybe start lifting wieghts at a gym. Don-t try at home you-ll end up eating. at a gym there is nothing to do there but workout. Spend 30 min. in a light jog then lift for an hour. Sweat alot and drink lots of water.
i think what you-re doing now sounds fine...you-re eating enough and exercising. good job for getting clean. good luck.
A new fad diet up and coming is the Lemon Cleanse. You can loose an average of 10lbs/week on it. I-ve heard it works but fast loss usually means fast gain so I would be careful after coming off the diet.

This is the recipe:

2 tablespoons FRESH squeezed lemon or lime juice (approx. 1/2 lemon)
2 tablespoons genuine organic maple syrup, Grade B or C(the darker the better)*
1/10 teaspoon (a small pinch!) cayenne pepper, gradually increase (the more BTUs the better)
300 - 500 cc (10-14 oz) pure water

You drink that mix every 1-2 hours and take in nothing else but purified water. After one week you should see results but should not continue the diet for more than 40 days.

There is a strict regiment of foods to eat for the first week or so after coming off the diet so you don-t shock your system.

Pretty much everything on this diet is fairly well explained in Stanley Burrough-s book, The Master Cleanser and there-s some stuff on this website:
http://www.falconblanco.com/health/clean…

I-m also clean for 1 year. Yeah for us!! You need to up your exercising, if you can-t run more than 1/2 mile then speed walk as much as you can. Your diet sounds perfect. If the food your eating isn-t causing you to loose weight then keep increasing your workout routine. Your body needs to be challenged so don-t get stuck doing the same thing over and over.
First off a BIG CONGRAT-S on getting yourself clean!!!!!!!!!!
Now you are into another stage of doing something good for yourself and working out a lifestyle plan of eating that you can stick with for a life. A diet per say is something that people go on and will lose weight but usually go off of and go back to the way they were eating before and end up gaining weight back. So what you need to find is a lifestyle plan that you can lose weight on and also stick with after for maintaining your new look.

What you have mentioned above....mainly the lean cuisine - I are not what is considered *whole foods* and I also believe most are high in sodium content. I believe in getting back to the basic-s would be helpful for you and since you are a determined person - I know you can do it. Choose whole healthy foods that work for you to lose weight - and not all people lose weight following the same type of plan because not all can (or want to follow the same or react to the same plan the same way). Your body will let you know. So pick a plan be it Lowcarbing, Weight Watchers, South Beach or a zillion others - but one that is actually based on store bought food and not specialty food thats going to cost you an arm and a leg :-)

Water is always very important no matter what plan you are following - so you should be drinking eight 8oz glasses a day. As for exercise - I know at 200 pounds it can be tough at times. You can start with just simple walking for 30 min a day and work yourself up from there - add in weight training to tone (I-m assuming you are a woman that is not looking at building up lots of muscle). As time progresses you can increase both of these.

Don-t become addicted to the scales - but rely more on how your clothing is fitting you as you lose. If you are working out muscle weighs more than fat - so if the scales are not moving down you can still be looking better and clothing fitting better overall.

After years and years of yo-yo dieting I quit dieting and finally did what I have said here - I lost 125 pounds in 8 months.
Try low-carb. You-re never hungry and have tons of energy. Works for me ; )
Go back to meth and smoking, you-ll lose the weight fast!
I quit meth. I quit smoking. in the last year i gained 70 pounds. Need to lose at least 50! am trying a diet.. -

Im just wondering what are the withdrawals after you quit smoking, is 1 of them bad mood swings? -

yea, mood swings, slight weight gain, head aches, i ground my jaw a bit too, but it only lasted about 2-3 weeks for me (i-ve been 2 months cold turkey now) But i gotta tell you after about 4 weeks food starts to taste a whole lot better, and you notice smells that you haven-t noticed for ages... and stamina improves too! good luck!
My wife-s friend felt deathly ill and started coughing and coughing and coughing up black chunks and disgusting stuff. She felt so horrible that she started smoking again. Crazy.
Yes, bad mood swings are just one thing. I-m now 3 days since Ive quit and have been having dizzy spells and nausea.
i-ve never smoked, but just think about it: you-re addicted to this thing and you-re trying to take yourself off of it so you-re going to feel a bit miserable. yes, mood swings are probably going to be a part of it. the severity depends on the level of you addiction and your coping mechanisms though.

whenever trying to get rid of any habit, be it smoking or even just biting your nails, you need to find something to replace the habit with to help you get over it easier. lots of people try the gum. those ones that have a tiny hint of nicotine in them are a good thing because it helps ween you off of the cigarettes with less chance of failure. but it doesn-t even have to be anything like those patches or gum. it could just be something like taking your dog for a walk, listening to an inspiring song, checking your e-mail or any little thing you can do every time you get a craving.
yes among other withdrawl syptoms.
To me it is mostly psychological. When I quit, I kept myself extremely busy for the first 3 weeks. Had my daily calendar filled up tho the last minute. That really helped me quit!. I didn-t have time to think about having a cigarette.

I do get cravings even now after 2 years, but I can easily handle them. Try not to be around smokers and cigarettes for a while.

What is the best way to quit smoking besides going cold turkey? -

Go on the patch, it makes you sick if you smoke with it on. When you have a craving suck on a mint. I quit 2 1/2 weeks ago and that is working pretty good for me. Also don-t tell yourself that you cannot have one, tell yourself that you don-t want one. GOOD LUCK
Well just so you know there is no health benifit from smoking less # of cigarettes so your goal needs to be none at all. Studies have found that when cigarette numbers are decreased patients inhale deeper and hold smoke in longer and actually attain the same nicotine levels. You should consult your doctor, there is a new medication, chantrix, which is showing amazing results. It blocks nicotine receptors so when you smoke you get no reward and you will actually quit cold turkey and not even know it, smoke away and you will get no satisfaction. You will be on this med for about 3 months but beleive me the 1st time quit rate is 45% much better than the 15% on all other methods!

How to Quit smoking weed? -

my friend smokes weed everyday. right when he wakes up, till the time he goes to bed, hes been doing it for 6 years strigth now. how can he quit? or cut down? when ever he tries he cant eat, and he gets sick.
People here tell their stories on how they quit weed

Mental Addictions are tough to break

http://www.detoxinsider.com/testimonial.…

Good Luck
he needs to go cold turkey, even though it will be that bad, they are just withdrawel symptoms. they go away within a couple of weeks. get him to excercise it makes you feel good
It-s not addictive. Most people use it to chill out. Give him another way to calm down.
No you shouldn-t try to stop cold turkey, and dont say weed isn-t addictive. If you smoke enough you can become addicted to the feeling.

Now heres what he should try to do... Get rid of all his weed, everything in his stash (smoke it all maybe, kinda like the final hurrah) and then just smoke one gram a day. Not all at once though, he should break it into 4 quarters and smoke a quarter gram four times a day. This way his body will be getting what its used to, the thc, and he should have little or no withdrawls. Once he feels he doesnt crave weed as much as he did before, it wont be hard to quit cold turkey from there.
It-s really good that your friend wants to try and quit smoking, but as for the withdrawal symptoms, try to get him to stop smoking completely, and when he gets sick try and get him to drink plenty of fluids and Vitamin C.
He needs to try and eat something, but start small with fruit and Gatorade. Also, spend more time with him doing something fun, and keep his mind off of the weed, and let him know that he-s making a really good choice.
Get him exercising, such as morning walks or going to the gym. And be sure to get a little sunlight every day, it-ll help your body a lot!
I-ll be praying for your friend, I hope this helped!

I quit smoking, but I still have urges to smoke, other than chewing gum what could you recommend to help? -

Also, I have smoked all of my adult life 27+ years, I finally quit(yeah) It has been now 3 weeks since I totally quit, I thought my smell and taste would be better, but are not. I am looking for some safe habit to do with my hands instead of holding a cigarette. Please do not tell me to chew gum--I hate gum.
Thank you
straws, when i tried to quit the last time, I chewed on straws or had one in my hand and would chew it when I wanted to smoke. I also sucked on hard candy- because I smoked menthol cigarrettes, I found sucking on Halls cough drops or anything with menthol helped.
Good luck, congrats and don-t give in, the difficulty will only last a few weeks- once you get past 2 you know you can keep going, eventually you won-t want it anymore- my husband quit for a month and tried to smoke and felt horrible- once your body gets used to not having it, it doesn-t want it.
Play with a pencil. You are used to having something in your hands.

Sugar free lollipops.....Also about 50 jumping jacks will take your mind off of those cravings that hit you out of nowhere!

Good luck to you!

Exercise, it worked for me. The first 6 months sucked, good luck.

wow!!! you should be proud of yourself

i know the answer to this one

Mucinex, you can get it from any Pharmacy over the counter
Yeah that happens to me when I go a couple days with a cigarette, I just start smoking again. The reason I usually stop any way is because I run out and I-m too busy to get more right away.
Sudafed, that stuff clears up the sky on a rainy day
well, quiting shop make that stuff slowly go away. so perhaps you have a cold. Just spit up that yellow hard stuff when you brush your teeth, and you-ll be all good dude
Give it time....your body is trying to heal from the abuse you have given it...and good luck.
time, I quit awhile back and it takes a couple of months to really get over all the lung butter build up

Spit!
Hot tea

go to the doctor...

o and what i did is try running one mile without stopping

you will never want to smoke again!!!

so now im training for a marathon

no joke
mucinex... cough dont hold it in like most people and gurgel salt water.
Do that special favor for your wife each night before bed. Works wonders for many ailments....LOL
I quit a couple of years ago and I have no mucous or smokers cough. It will go away, give it time.
mucusx works great
Only time to air out your lungs will do that....if a week has passed and you still have it see a doctor.
Just let it run its course. Good for you. That was not an easy thing to do. I know I will get many thumbs down for congratulating someone for quitting smoking. Kind of strange, but people don-t like smokers crossing to the other side. I was a smoker for 20+ years. The mucus in your lungs will clear, probably in a couple of weeks. Keep it up, and don-t give back in. Get used to the freedom of being a non smoker.
Try Mucinex. It will help you bring it up and clear it out. Drink lot of water. It-s a good thing, your lungs are cleaning themselves out. How long it takes depends on how long and how much you smoked.

How can I quit smoking? -

I-ve been using patches, Lozenges and the inhaler. And I-ve been using them and I have willpower but I always find myself crawling back to them I can manage four days without them and thats it. I dont find NRT to work on me.
chew gum when you feel like a smoke, and throw away ALL lighters, matches, cigarettes.
You can-t quit until you-re ready to... It-s not something you can force.
you dont have the will power. stop thinking of it.. when you feel that you-re loosing it chew a gum instead and think of the money you-ll save if you stopped buying it..that is how i stopped myself from getting lung cancer..be addicted to cola if you want to be obese and have diabetis
You DON-t have willpower.
You need to get the smoking gum, it helped my dad he used to smoke about 6 a day and now he only does 1 every two days!
Go get a prescription for Chantix. It will get you off the nicotine. If that doesn-t work, you can try Wellbutrin. If that doesn-t work, get a pill cutter, and start cutting the lozenges down -- 1/2, 1/4. Go no faster than you can. It may take several years to titrate all the way down, but that-s OK.
I-ve known people to be successful on the pill (Chantix) as it helps stop you from craving nicotine. It needs a doc-s prescription though, but if you want to stop and it helps, then it-s well worth it.
everytime you want to smoke.. drink a glass of water. once you start drinking water, you wont be in the mood for a smoke anymore. On the plus side, if you -get addicted- to drinking water... then thats a great thing anyway! you will stay hydrated!
I wish you the best of luck! I know you can do it!
If it worked for me, it will work for you.
just quit and don-t think about smoking. Think of something else to do read a book keeps your mind off of it.
First, you need to stay away from people that smoke. The temptation is to strong.I had to always smoke, when i drank beer,or was stress out.

Next ,for a while you need to get busy so you don-t think about it.A good exercise program,a gym. When you start feeling good ,you wonder why you started to being with. You also start to look at people that smoke and wonder how they can do that to themselves.That-s when your on your way
to recovery.

What scared me is i was always getting sick and seeing people carring these portable oxygen tanks around to breathe.
I can say now i really don-t get that sick that much...

Plus it helped my looks...

Man, start drinking Cola instead, better to be addicted to Cola than smoking!
smoke green, not cigs. youll be fine.
Chantix if you have the mind set. I have been on it since 11/1/08 and have not touched a cigarette since 11/8/08. You should atleast try it. It will work if you want it to

It is so easy for people to say just stay away from it because they don-t understand how additicting it is. It has a power over you. Well it did me atleast. After I ate I had to smoke when I drove I needed a cigarette or talked on the phone.

AND staying away from people who smoke. Right ok you see someone driving and they are smoking and you want one or on t.v make you want one. You can-t hide from it its everywhere Chantix will make it easier to curb the craving but you still have to fight the urge Good luck if you are serious about doing it you will

Im going to start taking it on Wednesday. I am a little worried about the side-effects...ex. change in dreams, nasea. Any tips or suggestions for success?
I hear some of the dreams can be vivid and drastic. Just remember--they are that--just dreams. Wake up and then go back to sleep. I think in the long run, this is a wonderful medication. I hear from patients that the side effects usually only last about 2 weeks and then they have great results as long as they hold out.
If you need information about how to take Chantix go to:

http://www.quitsmokinghope.com/chantix/c…

There is important information about how can you adapt your body during your first 7 days taking Chantix.
I-ve got the prescription too and, like you, am a little nervous about the side effects. I guess I-d rather have a bad dream or a little nausea rather then developing some sort of cancer. Let me know how youmake out with it....maybe we can be a support team or something.
Good Luck!!
well done for wanting to quite. if u carry on smoking u will delop cancer. u made the first step don-t give up hun.
You are worried about change in dreams but not worried about getting lung cancer or smelling like an ashtray.Wow!

I finally do, I keep waking up until its lite out, then I go out cold..any comments?
Congratulations! Difficulty sleeping is a common withdrawal problem, so the best I can suggest is that you tough it out, it should improve. Vivid dreams are also a common complaint when using Chantix, I had them myself when I used it (and found them more interesting than troubling).
Thats a weird situation you got there... Im not a professional. So I would go and book an appointment at the doctors, and tell him. He shoudl be able to help.
Sorry I couldn-t help :\

Quit smoking? -

Is there any way to quit smoking? Plz advice?
Everything should begin with YOU! Are you ready to quit? We have a lot of oproducts in the market which claims they are effective when you want quit smoking. Some are candies which you chew when you got the feeling of smoking. That-s one thing. Although it-s really hard since you still have to undergo through the withdrawal syndrome, if you are really serious about quitting, you could do it.
JUST MAKE UP YOUR MIND
prepare ur mind, u will quit smokin, dnt let ur mind be the slave of smokin.
Step # 1 you need a very strong reason to quit

Mine was the tax ($30 a carton) was going to pay for pre-pre-school and only smokers were going to pay for it.

I quit by reducing the number of cigs I smoked in a day, until I got below 1/2 pack then the Nicotine inhaler helped me finish

I quit a 5 pack a day habit after smoking 55+ years
I would just like to second the answerer that said Allen Carr-s -easy way to stop smoking-.

Don-t listen to people who say nicotine-replacement - it is designed to keep you paying for nicotine for months and years to come, while keeping you hooked on nicotine until you start smoking again.

I read Allen Carr-s book 4 months ago and stopped, and it was so easy compared to the other two times I tried to quit with Nicotine chewing gum. You have to continue to smoke while you read the book.
My advise is to read it slowly (2-3 weeks) so you have time to really think about what he writes. The more you think about it, the more it makes sense - be sure to schedule a few social occasions with other smokers while you are reading it to prove his points.

Stopping is easy.

Have you thought about that you don-t smoke every night while you sleep, and you don-t wake up every hour feeling miserable because you have to smoke?

Don-t cut down either - that only makes you think about cigarettes every second of the day, like when someone tells you -don-t think about pink elephants-. Smoke, and enjoy it and smoke as much as you want. Or stop, and never smoke another cigarette again. You will be so happy that you did.

Please get Allen Carr-s book -easy way to stop smoking-, if you are female there is a book especially for women.
yes.... when you start smoking think that you are trying to stop smoking.........you want to quit it........you should not do it.......

then you will not smoke

please do vote for me for this advice!
Get the Allen Carr easyway to quit smoking book...it-s under a tenner on Amazon...trust me ..it works!!!
A lot of ads on TV make this claim. There is also quitting cold turkey like I did years ago. Where there is a will there is a way. Just tell yourself that you are going to stop because it is dangerous for your health and those around you.
COLD TURKEY...It worked for me. I have been smoke free one month on the 7th. I cheated once, but that was in the way beginning, and haven-t cheated, or even really thought of cheating since then.

Just think about the fact that you are wasting so much money smoking...add it up sometime. And, think about the fact that you are killing yourself, slowly. It isn-t worth it!

GOOD LUCK.
I have seen a lot of people stop smoking using a relatively new drug called Chantix. If you start taking it when you decide to quit smoking, it seems to gradually make you feel like you don-t want to smoke. I-m completely going off others- experiences as I have never smoked. But, I work for a pulmonologist, and I-ve seen quite a few patients successfully quit with it. The most common side effect we-ve seen is nausea, and that usually occurs when someone smokes a lot while taking the Chantix. The most important thing in any quit effort is that you decide you want to quit.
Educate yourself as to the dangers, and who imaking lots of money off of your habit - health-loss...

www.QuitNet.com Marvelous, free (unless you choose to buy premium membership..... but free is great. Works just fine.)

Best dang support site. Saved my quit several times over and kept me from smoking.

Also, there-s the patch, the gum, (which I used), the lozenge, inhaler, and by prescription only Chantix. You can choose between any of these, or do a cold turkey quit, your choice.

Come on over and check that site out. Big helper.

EDIT----

I just read that answer that said nicotine replacement is designed to keep you using it for years. WRONG!!! For a matter of weeks, or a couple of months. I believe fully in these. Made it possible for me to stay away from cigarettes till I-d gotten some other parts of the habit straightened out.
Yes. If you can be firm and your will power is strong.
Hi,

Yes there is a way to quit somking . Do you know cigarette smoking kills nearly about 420,000 people a year.

Let us know some of the risks of smoking before the method of quiting smoking

Following are the risks of smoking

1. Heart disease
2. Cancer
3. Dementia and neurologic diseases
4. Lung disease
5. Female infertility and pregnancy
6. Male sexuality and reproduction
7. Behavioural and Social Problems
8. Effects on bones and joints

Following are the methods to quit smoking

At this time the most effective methods for quitting is a combination of nicotine replacement products and the antidepressant drug bupropion bolstered by counselling. After a year only about 4% of smokers who quit without any outside help succeed. The primary obstacle in trying to quit alone is making the behavioural changes necessary to eliminate the habits associated with smoking. Excellent books, tapes, and manuals are available and are strongly recommended to help people who want to quit without other assistance.

1. Nicotine replacement

Nicotine replacement products provide low doses of nicotine that do not contain the contaminants found in smoke. They are proving to be twice as helpful as other standard quitting methods. Replacement products include nicotine patches, gums, nasal sprays, and inhalers. Side effects of any nicotine replacement product may include headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal problems. People often experience sleeplessness in the first few days, particularly with the patch, but the insomnia usually passes. Patients using very high doses are more likely to experience symptoms, and reducing the dose can prevent them. Certain individuals like people with heart disease, pregnant women, small children may need to avoid nicotine replacement products.

Nicotine patches: Nicotine patches, or transdermal nicotine, can be an effective way to quit smoking. The quit rate for patch users is around 20% after six months. Nicotine patches are available over the counter, but it is best to consult a doctor before using them, particularly people with any medical problems.

Nicotine gum: Nicotine gum (Nicorette), available over the counter, has also been effective for a number of people. Some prefer it to the patch because they can control the nicotine dosage and chewing satisfies the oral urge. Long-term dependence may be a problem with this method.

Nicotine inhaler: The nicotine inhaler resembles a plastic cigarette holder. It comes with a number of nicotine cartridges which are inserted into the inhaler. It has some specific advantages over other slower nicotine replacement products:

Nicotine nasal spray: The nasal spray satisfies immediate cravings by providing doses of nicotine rapidly, and thus may play a useful role in conjunction with slower acting nicotine replacement therapies.

Nicotine tablet: A nicotine tablet that is held under the tongue is also very useful.

2. Alternative and ther Methods for Quitting

Scheduled reduction: One study showed that people who used a systematic withdrawal schedule were twice as likely to quit as those who went cold turkey. The procedure involves the following steps:

Divide the number of minutes per day awake by the number of daily cigarettes; the result is the minute-long wait between smokes.

Set up a schedule with time intervals based on this result and using a timer, smoke only at those intervals; if the -cigarette appointment- is missed by more than five minutes, the smoker must skip that cigarette.

The following week, one-third fewer cigarettes are used and the smoking time is recalculated based on the lower number.

During the third week the count is again reduced by a third, and the smoker quits in the fourth week.
Change daily habits:

Change the daily schedule as much as possible. Eat at different times or eat many small meals instead of three large ones, sit in a different chair, rearrange the furniture.

Find other ways to close a meal. Play a tape or CD, eat a piece of fruit, get up and make a phone call, or take a walk (a good distraction that burns calories as well).

Substitute oral habits (eat celery, chew sugarless gum, suck on a cinnamon stick.) Go to public places and restaurants where smoking is prohibited or restricted.

Set short-term quitting goals and reward yourself when they are met, or every day put the money normally spent on cigarettes in a jar and buy something pleasurable at the end of a predetermined period of time.

Avoid heavy drinking of alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants or mood altering substances.

Enjoy Life

how do u think some lines written here can help a dangerous problem like this.
Decide, Determine and Quit. Its upto you. You started it on the first place.

Just remember a person whom you hate and think that the cigratte you are smoking is that person.

Another way to quit smoking is to start doing Pranayam everytime you feel like smoking. That is breath in and out. The urge vasnishes, believe me, I have tried this and was able to stop smoking. Only request is don-t fall prey to another habit to quit smoking. Thats wrong thinking. Good Luck
when you feel to smoke just think of the diseases which are occuring due to smoking like cancer, lung disease, heart diseases,etc......you will not smoke

What I really want are some good reasons to stop smoking besides the obvious!!! I dont know, I havent had a ciggarette all day today, and I need to know how to keep from going crazy. How long before the cravings go away?????
Quiting nicotine is one of the hardest things I have ever done, but even harder than quiting is staying off of it. It is so hard to be around friends that smoke, and if your like me, you like smoking when you are drinking alcohol or coffee. The only thing that really works is a strong desire to quit. You just have to quit for your self, you are the only one strong enough to do it, you will never be able to do it if you are doing it for someone else! Good luck!!
i smoke but im not addicted to it.
i know that its hard to quit for people that are addicted. ive watched my dad he went crazy. anyways. you could throw your cigarettes and lighters away, try to stay away form the ones that smoke for a while. drink alot of water, eat regulary and exercise. find things to do. to keep you busy . hope my advice helped
If you-re young honestly I can-t give you any good reasons. I only quit when I got old enough to start having health problems. But cold turkey is the way to go. The patch just infuses you with the chemical you are trying to break from. I have never understood that.
your answer is in the site in my sources
Im trying to quit as well its hard but try this web site http://www.anti-smoking.org/?gclid=CL-91ObjjJkCFRxNagodVX7DnA.
They have alot of info and its a good read. GOOD LUCK!!
Well, my friend the best reason that you can tell yourself is smoking will end your life prematurely.

Hi,

Avprin helps you loose weight and quit smoking.
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

Good Luck
It has not helped me lose weight BUT cold weather is here - I haven-t been able to go on my walks. And the holidays dinners have started already so that hasn-t helped any. I figure I-ll tackle the weight issue after I quit. One thing at a time.

I quit smoking 3 weeks ago and I have been feeling really sick. Is this right? -

My main symptoms are nausea, can-t breathe well. I breathe worse now then when I was smoking. Its so wierd. I just feel like I have a flu or something. I -ve been feeling this way the 2nd week after quitting. I don-t have any cravings and I do not wish to smoke. Lastly, I drink lots of water. What can I do to feel better. I-m going to the doctor this week. I want to have a chest xray done just to make sure I-m not suffering from emphysema. I smoked for 13 yrs started when I was 16 and now 28 and quit. Could I have emphysema? I don-t know. So I-m wondering is it normal to feel nauseated everyday. I also have anxiety as well.
absolutely, what happens when you quit smoking is your body is withdrawing from all that nicotine and it causes insomnia, nausea, mood swings, etc.
hi
i quit four days ago and i have flu already.
i dont know whats going on either but dealing with this stops me thinking about smoking a cig which i did for twelve years due to boredom.
im also freaking out a lot.
a good trick so far has been to exhale as if i was exhaling a cigarette,
allen carrs book taught me that one.
good luck to you and to me
I quit so long ago (30 years to be exact) that I can-t remember, except the anxiety. No one on YA is able to -diagnose- you since I doubt many, if any, are M.D.-s, and no one is able to do a -hands-on- examination, so, do as you say and go see the doctor, and remember, no -ailment-- you-re having will ever justify going back to smoking. NONE! God Bless you.
youre feeling withdrawls
if you can get past the three or four week hump its smooth sailing
A lot of people underestimate the effects of nicotine withdrawal, they can be quite nasty and varied in some people. There can be secondary symptoms to a respiratory or vascular problem that was either caused or aggravated by smoking.

Your situation needs a doctor-s advice.

For free info on smoking, click the link below
If you weren-t suffering from any of the symptoms you mentioned before you quit...then it is probably a combo of withdraw symptoms and your body detoxing. The chemicals in cigarettes are highly toxic and very addictive, so when you quit your body has a tough time adjusting sometimes. Sometimes people will have the same type of experience when they go vegitarian or give up coffee. Give it some time...you-ll feel like a new person in no time.

If you are really concerned about your symptoms though go and see your doctor.

Congrats on quiting and good luck!
Sorry kid, you just have to tough it out. I quit a 2 pack a day 20 year Marlboro habit cold turkey 2 years ago. Your chest hurts -cause it-s still trying to kick out all that built up crud, your flu symptoms are withdrawal from nicotine. Yeah, it-s possible you have lung disease, but I bet these symptoms will clear on their own. It took a month and a half before I felt 1/2 human again. You started growling at people yet? How -bout the eating? I managed to pack on 40 lbs. in 3 months before the feeding frenzy went away. Oh yeah, the nausea is tied to your body trying to eject all the built up garbage in there. It-ll go away soon. Good Luck, and drop me a line anytime. I know what your feeling.

How long after quitting smoking does weight gain take place? -

How long after quitting smoking does weight gain take place? -

I quit smoking 6 months ago and have not really gained any new weight. I work out regularly and eat well, which isn-t different from my lifestyle when I was a smoker, so I was [nervously] awaiting weight gain since I haven-t changed my routine. I hear that most people who quit will gain some weight b/c of decreased metabolism, eating more, etc. but I-m hoping that I-m one of those people who don-t! If I was to gain weight, wouldn-t I have by now?
First of all, congratulation!!! It-s a difficult addiction to break.

Since you haven-t experienced any weight gain yet, you probably won-t. There are a couple things that usually cause weight gain -
1. Nicotine withdrawl give some of the same feelings as being hungry so often people will eat to satisfy that -hunger-.
2. There is a repititive hand-to-mouth action associated with smoking and continuing that action using food often satisfies that action.

After 6 months, while you may still have psychological cravings for a cigarette at times, the nicotine addiction should be gone. Keep doing what you-re doing and you-ll be fine.
Within days if you eat food everytime you wanted a cigarette. I don-t think everyone has this problem. Most people crave cigarettee-s after a meal, and so they tend to shy away from eating to avoid it until they are really hungry.
you dont always gain weight. if you were going to you would have already. thats usually just for people that stuff their faces with food rather than smoking. congratulations on your feat. be proud.

i have tried patches, are there other ways
cold turkey......it-s all in your mind and a matter of will power by changing your routine. Example would be, instead of smoking a cigarette after a meal, chew a piece of gum or suck on a mint. When you get into your vehicle, have a lolipop handy or a bottle of water.

Your gonna have to change your pattern to break your habbit.
SHAME SHAME SHAME! Well, good for you for trying to quit at least. YOu should-ve even STARTED in the first place! YOU GOT YOUR self into this MESS!

1. Find a new addiction. (Gum, junk food, the computer)
2. Or, you could have somebody hide your cigarettes.
I tired this herbal cigarettes. Going through withdraw was-t to bad but the smell really bad so you have to be away from people but you realize how much smoking is more habit. the After 2 weeks When I wanted a smoke all I had was those things and then the need just wasn-t ther anymore.Good Luck ( the herbal smokes are called Honey Rose check out their web site)
I quit cold turkey. I needed the support of my friends for sure. They all promised not to smoke around me. The hardest part was when I was drinking and i slipped a few times. You need to change the patterns in your life that cause you to smoke: for instance:
1. I quit during the winter when I would suffer through the cold anyway. It was a lot easier not to go out on breaks at work.
2. I limited my drinking for a while
3. I took a different route home from work everyday. my favorite cigarette was the after work in my car cigarette. I used to know exactly when the cigarette was done by where i was on the way home. So I started taking new routes. And I did all my errands after work so I didn-t have time to light up between stops.
4. My boyfriend quite 9 months before I did. It really helped.

If you still can-t swing it, go to your doctor or join a support group. It-s one of the most important things you can do for yourself.
I did it cold turkey. Took me two tries though.

But, I told all my friends that I was quitting and told them not to let me go buy any and to take them away if they saw me with them.

I basically made a promise to myself that I was going to stop and whenever I wanted one, I found something else to do quickly. Played a video game, went on a walk, went on a drive, played a computer game, etc. Figure out the stuff that will change your mind and then use it!
I have known many helped with hypnotherapy. but you have to really want to give up.
I did it cold turkey, if its any help at all... It-s not a method, it just is.
Chantix...it-s pills. You have to get them from your doctor..you can-t buy them. They have a 44% rate of succes. They are supposed to work better than anything out there. Plus...they are supposed to make your cravings no existent. Yeah, you heard that right.

I am going to start taking them soon. You take the pills for about 12 weeks.. and wha laa. If you don-t quit though you can still take the pills and keep trying...you can smoke while taking them so if you still need one while trying to quit(tough times)...and for a while until the pill takes full effect it-s alright..or for any other reason. They also give you this card and it will give you access to all their tips and they give you a number to call if you need help. I don-t really think anyone calls that number..I mean what would you say...I need a cigarett... but the website may help a bit... I don-t know. Here is the offical site. Watch for the commercial with the tortise and the hare it-ll tell you stuff too.
In the Search for questions slot type in -quit smoking- and you will get at least 6,800 results.
study your habits, where and how much you smoke. Places you never smoke hag around their more, while try smoking less each week. Give yourself time

Ive recently quit smoking- is it safe to start a rigorous exercise regime straight away? -

Hi there, I am 22 and have smoked since I was 16 (it isn-t something I am proud of). I quit a week ago and am doing well, no cravings as yet.

I-d like to start getting fit, as I-ve applied to join the British Army. After a week I am already noticing subtle differences in my health, such as my senses of taste and smell returning!

What I want to know is, is it safe for me to start seriously exercising after a week, or am I wise to leave it longer in order for my body to repair itself further, without over-stretching it?

Thanks!
No, first of all it is perfectly safe, and second the sooner you start the better.

Just remember to build up week after week, don-t try and do too much too soon, and I would eat as healthily as possible to fuel yourself properly for training.

The current reccomended healthy eating plan is four or five small to medium meals a day, each one (apart from breakfast) should contain some carbohydrates (rice/pasta/potatoes etc) some protien (chicken, fish, etc) and lots of vitamins minerals and antioxidants (fresh fruit and veg). You can pile your plate high with as much veg and snack on as much fruit/fruit juice as you like. Just keep one day a week as your -treat day- where you get a takeaway/pizza/whatever.

Also excercise is essential. Cardio excercise will not only keep you healthy, increase your lung function and decrease your resting heart rate, it will also burn off a lot of calories, keeping you slim.

Weight training is also important, use light weights with lots of reps and you will tone and define your muscles without -bulking up-, which will keep your body strong and supple, but also increase your metabolism so you burn off even more calories even when you are resting!

If you are joining the army, then cardio is much more important. Depending on what you are joining up as, you will need to do a mile and a half run in at least 10 minutes, and be able to jog comfortably for 30 minutes whilst being able to talk. (this is for the infantry, this decreases with crap caps). Just run a mile and a half (2.5 km) as quickly as you can, then try to get it down to 10 mins. If you can-t run a mile and a half, build up to it, otherwise you won-t get in.

Good luck.
u got to start it slow, especially if the exercise involve in a cold weather.do a jog first about 2-4km.try to build up your lungs. gudluck
No you are fine to start exercising. Not a great deal of relationship between smoking and exercising. You will be able to breathe better which will help .. Don-t go the whole hog in one go though.. Work your routinre up gradually. Gradually push the limits and extend yourself. Pleased for you, very sensible move.
Go for it. You-ll note a difference immediately.

I quit a while ago after smoking for 13 years.

Yep. Go for it and well done for kicking the habit.
It is not like you are recovering from an operation.

I say get in there and get on with it. The sooner the better I can tell you from experience.

If you are fit before you go in, you stand a good chance of getting through it all.

If not, you are only planning to fail.

Good luck.

3 to 5 km a day to start with.

Enjoy. :)
u can exercise any time u like whither u smoke or not
You need to go to the doctor, and get some blood work in.

After they check your blood, they-ll see if you have the right antibodies in your system, and check for unknown diseases.

They also have to do an MRI scan, to check to see if your lungs are o.k., and if you suffer from Emphysema, which is an underlying effect of chronic, habitual smoking.

How long after you quit smoking do you fully recover? -

i have been smoking for 4 years now and i have decided to quit. will my body return to a normal healthy body as if i never smoked at all?
The body is constantly cleaning itself out. Fortunately you weren-t one of those people who smoked for 10, 20, 30 years. I guess it depends on how much you smoked per day. Were you a chain smoker during those years? Did you only smoke 2-3 cigs per day? Regardless though, damage has already occurred but probably not as severely as it could have if you would have continued to smoke. So, congrats on quitting. =) Even though tar build up in the lungs may be very difficult for your body to remove, I do personally believe it can happen especially if you exercise and make your body work out well. The increased circulation will assist the body in eliminating waste. Will your lungs ever return back to as if though you never smoked at all? Probably not but you probably didn-t do that much damage to begin with.
Here are just a few facts:

After 8 hours without a cig .....
Carbon monoxide in your body drops and oxygen levels in your blood increases to normal.

After 2 days.....
Your sense of smell and taste will improve. You will enjoy your food more.

After 2 weeks....
Nicotine has passed from your body.

Within 3 months....
Lung function increases up to 30%.

Within 6 to 9 months:
You-ll experience less coughing, sinus congestion, tiredness and shortness of breath.

After 1 year:
Your risk of heart disease will be about half of what it would have been if you continued to smoke.

After 5 years:
Your risk of stroke will be substantially reduced; within 5 to 15 years after quitting, it becomes about the same as a non-smokers.

After 10 years:
Your risk of dying from lung cancer will be about half of what it would have been if you had continued to smoke.
Your risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas will also decrease.

Within 15 years:
Your risk of dying from a heart attack is equal to a person who never smoked.

So no matter what your age is...you can benefit from quitting.

Because for the last week I have been JUST A LITTLE IRRITABLE!!!!!

sigh....

Really....

How long does has it taken the folks on here who have quit...

I quit cold turkey if that means anything
It really does differ from person to person. Some a few days, others a few weeks or months and then there as though who never quite feel normal again. The latter is a very tiny percent of those that quit so don-t worry about that being you.

For me it was about 2 months before I could call myself a genuine ex smoker. I didn-t go cold turkey, what I did was deal with my psychological addiction first. This made the physical addiction a breeze to get over.

I truly believe that smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

Always stay positive and remember the reasons why you quit in the first place. If you constantly circle these reasons through your mind it keeps you focused and gives you motivation. Don-t ever focus on the negatives (irritability for example) otherwise you may lose the battle.

congrats on quitting!
anyway, whenever you-re around your friends who smoke, have a beer or some good gum so it-ll distract you from the craving.

In General, how many days before quit smoking to go for plastic surgery.? -

i have left smoking before 10 day-s of plastic surgery. is there any effect on surgery.
Yes there is an effect. The healing process is much slower in smokers. This is due (in part) that carbon monoxide that you inhale with smoking, will attach to the red blood cells where oxygen needs to be. Oxygen is important to the healing process.

Smoking also robs the body of certain nutrients that are needed for normal function and injury/wound healing.

I say the sooner you quit the better and consider not restarting afterword.

Good luck
you should go to: http://www.cosmedicjetaways.com

They have a full section on how bad it is to smoke or be a smoker before surgery.

10 days is not enough, you should have planned this months ago.

smoking is bad for skin and it is essential for a good recovery process, it takes 6 weeks to clear the effects of smoking from skin.

and to do that you need to drink lots of water, 2 litres daily.

dont listen to surgeons advice, use a website like http://www.cosmedicjetaways.com

since they are not trying to get customers the same month, and bookings are usually 6 months in advance and they give all warnings and careful planning before hand.

this way you get to prepare for surgery, and the best results.

Yes, if it worked once it will work again. Chantix works by releasing a chemical in the brain that simulates what the nicotine does. Therefore, the nicotine does not give you the little -high- when you smoke. Good for her for quitting for any length. She can do it again!!!

Im trying to quit smoking but Im feeling I need a smoke really bad right now....? -

I don-t have any and I was going to buy some earlier but I decided not to because I-m really serious about quitting this time around. I feel like I really need one right now....like seriously really feel it. When the morning comes and the coffee comes, how do I control myself. What do I do to take my mind off needing to light up????
Here are a few tips, hope they help.

- Keep Busy

Go to a movie.
Exercise.
Take long walks.
Go bike riding.

Spend as much free time as you can where smoking isn-t allowed. Some good places are malls, libraries, museums, theaters, department stores, and places of worship.

Do you miss having a cigarette in your hand? Hold something else. Try a pencil, a paper clip, a marble, or a water bottle.

Do you miss having something in your mouth? Try toothpicks, cinnamon sticks, lollipops, hard candy, sugarfree gum, or carrot sticks.

Drink a lot of water and fruit juice. Avoid drinks like wine and beer. They can trigger you to smoke.

- Stay Away from What Tempts You
Instead of smoking after meals, get up from the table. Brush your teeth or go for a walk.

If you always smoke while driving, try something new: Listen to a new radio station or your favorite music. Take a different route. Or take the train or bus for a while, if you can.

Stay away from things that you connect with smoking. Do it today and for the next few weeks. These may include:
Watching your favorite TV show
Sitting in your favorite chair
Having a drink before dinner

Do things and go places where smoking is not allowed. Keep this up until you-re sure that you can stay smoke-free.

Remember, most people don-t smoke. Try to be near nonsmokers if you must be somewhere you-ll be tempted to smoke, for example at a party or in a bar.

And of course, get as much support as you can.

Good luck with it.
Distract yourself with other things! Focus on the positives...Your life and health will glow once you kick the nasty habit of smoking. Write yourself a letter detailing all the reasons you should quit, keep it somewhere close to you, and whenever you feel the compelling urge to light up, take the letter out and read it intently...Remind yourself of the positives! You can do it, try to make it 3 days without smoking and see how you go. Just keep focused, plan things with friends, occupy your mind with other things you have to do in your life and ignore the urge to smoke....You can do it, trust me!
Think about what a pain in the butt smoking is. Do you really wanna always have to go out and buy smokes just to come home feeling like a failure and stinking...only to one day have to feel this way again cuz you can-t smoke forever (unless u want cancer). You-ve already gotten through the day which is HUGE, keep going because you want to do the right thing.

When I quit I cut down on the triggers (coffee - drinking alcohol being some of them), I-d drink chocolate milk which was comforting). Go for a walk in the AM to get rid of that tension, curse the whole time if you want. Do everything/ANYTHING you can think of that relieves stress, the smokes just stress you out so you can feel like you actually relaxed when you had a cigg. A warm bath, a hobby that occupies your hands, chew gum, work out, scream, listen to some comforting music, call a friend...anything but a stinking cash grubbing life wrecking smoke.

I used the nicorette gum and it helped, just as long as you follow the directions. It helped me not to gain weight (I lost a few actually) since I was chewing and couldn-t eat around the time I had the gum.
Your supposed to stay away from coffee (and other stimulants) when your quitting. Are you using the patch or anything to help with nicotine cravings? Just keep at it. If you-re seriously desperate... go run or do anything physical that will distract you and tire you out. Keep yourself busy as best you can. It isn-t easy but it will get easier and easier. Good luck.
do something that interests you. that will keep your mind off smoking. drink some water. chew some gum. have some candy. watch tv. basically anything that will keep your mind off smoking. also, throw out all your cigarettes and lighters!! spray air refreshener to freshen up your house/room. it-ll make you feel refreshed. go outside and get some fresh air. think about the healthy stuff. not the bad smoking stuff. believe and you can do it!
If you are really serious... Nicorette gum may help you. It will decrease the urge...but only if you are serious. I found walking released the desire...I started making blankets and found when my hands were busy, I was less likely to substitute food while sitting idle. Good luck to you! You are smart and will thank yourself. It took me approx. 4 weeks to feel as though I was -sane- and didn-t have that -I have to have one- psycho-type of behavior when I quit smoking.
Well what-s your motivation for quitting... think of that.

To feel better.
To live longer.
To save money.
To refuse to let a substance control you.

It takes a lot of will power to break an addiction, keep telling yourself that you are strong and you can do it.

Sometimes you just gotta take a week off from work and clean the whole house and read books and watch movies and suck on candy and stuff. Stay away from stores and people who smoke.
omg! im going through the same thing right now, and when i get the craving i try chewing gum...i have like 2 packs in my purse right now, and theyre going fast...the gum keeps my mouth and mind busy for a few minutes cuz i just start chewing away and try to think of something else and change my mind...or i-ll do that and drink diet red bull, or diet coke or diet mountain dew...i dont wanna pack on the calories, cuz alot of people gain weight after quitting anyway...i actually need some more ideas for help too
Sing dance laugh try everything.....Don-t give in you need to be the winner of the don-t smoke game not the cigarette. Read a book maybe you-ll fall asleep.....Good luck Remember you CAN do it!!! You-ll feel better once you-ve quit for good and you-ll smell better.....:)
The first few days are the hardest. Try to do something else when the urge to smoke overwhelms you. Chew gum, or have a piece of fruit. Try reading some motivational materials. Mostly, though, just exercise self control and think about something else. You-re doing the right thing in quitting. Good luck to you!
Change your routine. For example if you normally have your coffee in the kitchen...try taking it to the living room instead. The change of pace and scenery (no matter how small) can help relieve some of the craving. Keep gum or candy around you for when you feel like you need a ciggie, or sip some water instead. Keep it up, you made a great decision. Best of luck!
Just remember that your desire to have a cigarette will pass in time. It-s not a need, like food or sleep. Needs get stronger as time passes, whereas desire comes and goes. The longer without something the easier it can be to go without it, psychologically speaking.
replace the addiction with something else. chew gum, start knitting, go running, eat chocolate...anything! substituting bad addictions for new ones has shown to actually work!! you just have to make sure it-s not a worse addiction...like alcohol or drugs or something. make sure it-s like a hobby or an activity! good luck and i have faith in you!!! :]
By nicotine gum. It is great for the cravings. I would chew a piece for an hour. And I quit five years ago.
Other gum helps but not as much.
Chew on a straw or a toothpick with your coffee. Or have tea or go for a walk instead.
Sit only with non smokers.
don-t try cold turkey, i dont know if your on patches or anything but if your not try nicorret gum it will at least help a little bit but what ever you do DONT GIVE UP!

keep it up.
hope it goes well.

Chew gum and eat everything in sight. I did the patches and im down to 14 patches a day.
Smoke cigs that you do not like. If you smoke regular cigs, buy menthol cigs like Newports instead.
