What is an easy way to quit smoking? -

I have tryed quiting cold turkey but no luck and i don-t believe the patch and the gum work what else could i do?
Don-t feel bad about not being able to quit through going cold turkey. This method doesn-t work because it gives nicotine the power, not the other way around. The vast majority fail to quit this way.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Most companies who sell quit smoking aids admit to this on their websites. They say to use their products in conjunction with a psychological support program. Why? Because without one the chances of quitting are greatly reduced. In reality the psychological program does most of the work. The quit smoking aids are more of a helping hand and are often completely unnecessary.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
The way my mom quit was with lots of support. She wasn-t able to stop with the patch and gum either. What you need is someone (or more) people who you can count on. Whenever you are feeling the urge to light up call them and meet up or talk to them to distract yourself (kinda like a sponsor). Whenever my mom would go into a store to buy cigs she would call me and I would just tell her to come over for a few hours and if she still wanted to get cigs later then I would take her downstairs to buy them. Usually she would come over and we would have lunch and a few drinks and she would forget about her cigs completely. Another thing is you can slowly wean yourself off cigs. If you currently smoke 1 pack a day start making it 3/4 pack and then 1/2 pack etc etc. In the morning take out the number of cigs you are going to allow yourself to smoke today and put them in a separate container. DON-T carry around the whole pack with you because it will be very hard to resist the temptation.
I threw out all the crap suggested to help. None of it worked for me at all. Patches made me jones harder, gum burned my mouth. Telling people I was quitting made me look like an *** later (over and over).

I took a week off. I just up and said screw it. Just stopped. I sat in bed with bags and bags of pistachios for DAYS. You were lucky if I got up and showered! I could not eat at the table, drive, put on make up... I could do nothing that I could somehow associate with smoking.

Eventually I made it to the couch. It was hard as I smoked on the couch. I was trying to get through every smoking trigger. A couple months after that I could drive myself. Yes, it took that long as after the first 2 weeks passed no way was I redoing that! I never made it past 1 week.

I needed everyone I knew on board. Lucky I knew NO smokers, have not for many years. 8 months later and here I am still smoke free. Oh and the BIGGEST thing to tell yourself. If you decide to -have just one- be honest. You are deciding to start smoking again. There is no such thing as just one. If you reach for one just tell yourself I quit quitting and am a smoker again. That has really helped me. As I have wanted just one a lot. Even a few days ago. But I do not want to be a smoker again.

The quit pain does go away. You get a craving here and there but it is not bad and is over quickly. Good luck.
well would u like to see what your lungs look like if you keep it up :]

its not pretty is it?
Nicotine is more addictive than heroin. If there-s an easy way, I haven-t seen it.

You might try hypnosis.
Sorry bud, there is no easy way to quit. You just gota tough it out and to it

If i switch to amreican spirit cigerattes, can it help me quit smoking? -

im asking becuase i wana quit smoking. but i dnt wana try any nicotine gums or patches or nuthin. and i was told that the american spirit cigarettes have less addictives, and sinceit has les addictives, can it help me quit?
smoking any cigarette is not gonna help you quit..
No. American Spirits are additive*-free, not less addictive. I think you got them confused. And smoking is smoking, just like nicotine is nicotine. Whatever you smoke, you are still smoking; smoking a different brand of cigarettes is not going to help you quit. Don-t be fooled, there is no such thing as a healthier or safer cigarette.

I have been trying to quit for 3 years.
I know I am pretty young to be smoking.
I want to quit before it really starts hurting me.
Stop buying cigarettes.
Think of this way, the more you smoke, the more money you spend. Let-s say in a day you buy 1 pack of cigarrette, and the cigarratte cost ard 5-10 bucks, if u dont use that money, u could eventually save 5-10 bucks a day.....35-70 bucks per mth...and year????? count urself... Make ur mind be a money-minded as in, each time u wana buy cigarrette, its the same as burning that money. i know there-s an urge for u to smoke, but at least if u think of saving money to buy something worth like a present for ur girlfriend, then u-ll think back twice. Think thrice....so on and so forth.... Ask urself, if i buy the cigarrette now, i won-t be able to buy something that i-ve been eyeing for. Trust me, if u think of money, u-ll feel the waste of buying cigarrette. Maybe u could slowly decrease as in, u-ll think of smoking lesser, 1 pack must last me for 3 days, so i can save more money, when the urge of smoking have lessen, its easier to quit smoking. THINK OF $$$$$$..
It is already hurting you now as you speak.

But you can try Smoke Away. Look it up and you can order is. It is like a pill or liquid. I forget which.

But my dad was a smoker for years. He stopped and started again. Then he started using this and he has stopped smoking for 5 years now. But you don-t take it everyday for years. You take it for a short amount of time.

It turns your cravings so if you think about smoking, I guess it makes you feel sick.

Hopefully I Helped! And Good Luck!
It took me a couple of tries before i actually quit. i began by trying to cut down to the point i was only smoking maybe 2/day. this helped me break the physical addiction and just the habit of smoking for no reason, like when your bored. if the health problems don-t make you want a quit, look at someone who has smoked all there life. i can always tell who is a smoker just by looking at them (wrinkles around their lips, leathery skin, brown and missing teeth, yellow hair, smoker-s cough and voice). you just need to committ to it. it takes a lot of strength to quit, and not everyone has it.

I quit seven years ago by changing brands of cigarettes about every two or three months . Each time I changed brands I bought one with less tar and nicotine than the last .when I got to the lowest rated one I could find I smoked them and picked a quiting day and stuck to it . It is very hard to quit ,but it is possible ,Just convince your self you can do it and prove to every one that said you couldn-t ,you have a stronger will power than they thought . I tried the patches, pills ,and gums none of them worked . Cold turkey was the only way I managed to quit . If you don-t succeed the first time like I did , try again as soon as possible. If I can quit any body can .I smoked for 36 years
Pray for the Lord to help you!!!
develop a strong zeal to quit smoking.
to develop aversion for tobacco,

2. take one drachm/10 gms of mixture of calcarea phos 3x, natrum mur 3x in a tumbler/flask [thermos flask] of hot water and sip it every 10 minutes for one day. that-s all, u can quit smoking by doing like above for three days, good luck to u.
My moms gets emails from www.about.com on quitting smoking - she didn-t quit yet, but she-s feeling more in the mood to.
When you crave a cigarette, find something else to occupy your mind. Don-t try to quit cold turkey because it could come back to bite you. Try the patch or gum or something...
We-ll I quit smoking 5 years ago when I found out I was pregnant and it was the hardest thing i ever did, but my baby was more important to me. After about 2 months the cravings were alot better. Try to eat hard candy, take walks, anything to take your mind off it. Good luck.

I quit meth. I quit smoking. in the last year i gained 70 pounds. Need to lose at least 50! am trying a diet.. -

I was on meth 24/7 for a year.Have now been clean for 1 yr, and quit smoking cigarettes 4 months ago. Have gained so much weight...now excercising, eating dry toast for breakfast, 2 apples for a snack, leancuisine for lunch, an apple and a lowfat granola bar for snack, and another lean cuisine for dinner.I eat dinner around 5:00, jog half a mile, then have another apple.I also have an hypothyroidism which I am on medication for.Is this a healthy diet? Is it low enough in fat and calories that I should lose weight? My eating was out of control, since getting clean, food has taken on a whole new meaning and has never been so good! and of course, since quitting smoking, i ate instead of smoked. now the cravings are under control, but i am up to 200 pounds!hope someone can make some suggestions!
first off I will congratulate in making the right choice that you do want to lose some 200 pounds.

if you do exactly what I tell you, I guarantee you that you will see results.

you must do the following:

1. food.
(a) unhealthy foods - - -please say good bye to any form of unhealthy food including junk foods whatsoever.
(b) healthy foods - - - - please consult with a doctor about nutrition and diets to see what forms of foods you are allowed to eat.
2. liquids.
(a) because you will go to the gym, every single day, you will be required to drink at least a gallons worth of liquids (excluding sodas of any sort and mineral water) such as water, milk, orange juices, etc., etc., etc.
3. exercise
(a) I suggest that you do at least between 2 or 3 miles in the treadmill in which it should be approximate about 40 to 60 minutes
CONGRATS ON BEATING METH! I am very impressed. That is hard to do. If you can do that, you can do anything! I don-t know about your special dietary needs, you might see a dietician, to help you set up a menu for your lifestyle. Also check out the internet for diets that may help! God love ya!!!

jogging a half mile does nothing. I asked my Doc and told her I run 1-1.5 miles and can-t lose weight. She said It more depends on the amount of TIME you spend do cardio work. It needs to be 30-40 min. also get enrolled in college and fill your time. make different friends. and maybe start lifting wieghts at a gym. Don-t try at home you-ll end up eating. at a gym there is nothing to do there but workout. Spend 30 min. in a light jog then lift for an hour. Sweat alot and drink lots of water.
i think what you-re doing now sounds fine...you-re eating enough and exercising. good job for getting clean. good luck.
A new fad diet up and coming is the Lemon Cleanse. You can loose an average of 10lbs/week on it. I-ve heard it works but fast loss usually means fast gain so I would be careful after coming off the diet.

This is the recipe:

2 tablespoons FRESH squeezed lemon or lime juice (approx. 1/2 lemon)
2 tablespoons genuine organic maple syrup, Grade B or C(the darker the better)*
1/10 teaspoon (a small pinch!) cayenne pepper, gradually increase (the more BTUs the better)
300 - 500 cc (10-14 oz) pure water

You drink that mix every 1-2 hours and take in nothing else but purified water. After one week you should see results but should not continue the diet for more than 40 days.

There is a strict regiment of foods to eat for the first week or so after coming off the diet so you don-t shock your system.

Pretty much everything on this diet is fairly well explained in Stanley Burrough-s book, The Master Cleanser and there-s some stuff on this website:
http://www.falconblanco.com/health/clean…

I-m also clean for 1 year. Yeah for us!! You need to up your exercising, if you can-t run more than 1/2 mile then speed walk as much as you can. Your diet sounds perfect. If the food your eating isn-t causing you to loose weight then keep increasing your workout routine. Your body needs to be challenged so don-t get stuck doing the same thing over and over.
First off a BIG CONGRAT-S on getting yourself clean!!!!!!!!!!
Now you are into another stage of doing something good for yourself and working out a lifestyle plan of eating that you can stick with for a life. A diet per say is something that people go on and will lose weight but usually go off of and go back to the way they were eating before and end up gaining weight back. So what you need to find is a lifestyle plan that you can lose weight on and also stick with after for maintaining your new look.

What you have mentioned above....mainly the lean cuisine - I are not what is considered *whole foods* and I also believe most are high in sodium content. I believe in getting back to the basic-s would be helpful for you and since you are a determined person - I know you can do it. Choose whole healthy foods that work for you to lose weight - and not all people lose weight following the same type of plan because not all can (or want to follow the same or react to the same plan the same way). Your body will let you know. So pick a plan be it Lowcarbing, Weight Watchers, South Beach or a zillion others - but one that is actually based on store bought food and not specialty food thats going to cost you an arm and a leg :-)

Water is always very important no matter what plan you are following - so you should be drinking eight 8oz glasses a day. As for exercise - I know at 200 pounds it can be tough at times. You can start with just simple walking for 30 min a day and work yourself up from there - add in weight training to tone (I-m assuming you are a woman that is not looking at building up lots of muscle). As time progresses you can increase both of these.

Don-t become addicted to the scales - but rely more on how your clothing is fitting you as you lose. If you are working out muscle weighs more than fat - so if the scales are not moving down you can still be looking better and clothing fitting better overall.

After years and years of yo-yo dieting I quit dieting and finally did what I have said here - I lost 125 pounds in 8 months.
Try low-carb. You-re never hungry and have tons of energy. Works for me ; )
Go back to meth and smoking, you-ll lose the weight fast!
I quit meth. I quit smoking. in the last year i gained 70 pounds. Need to lose at least 50! am trying a diet.. -

Have any of you successfully quit, and how? He is doing it for his girlfriend so he has motivation, but he has tried before and failed.
Contact the Quitline and join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
I was a smoker for 25 years and I had quit smoking for over six times ,but never really quit smoking before.Just after I read that quit smoking program, I realized how easy quitting smoking was.I am a non-smoker now! I highly recommend this program to your brother. It really works. You can check out
http://quit-smoking-in-3-hours.info

Good luck!
First he should go and see his doctor. His doctor should be able to help find determine if a smoking cessation aid would be beneficial and which one. Second go the the Yahoo group NicotineBusters,
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Nic…
They have a wealth of information on a variety of methods to quite smoking. Their support is wonderful. Third, he may want to take a look at
http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/…
It-s a quiz to help identify what type of smoker you are.

I quit 3 months, 3 weeks and 1 day ago. But who-s counting!!! ;-)
These are really good tips I have heard to stop smoking. Hope they help.

Because a smoker forms the habit of putting something in their mouth, and it-s like always a cigarette. you will need something else to put into your mouth, like lollipops.

Have a peppermint each time you crave a cigarette, the craving will go away somehow.

Be sure to have lots of water, the nicotine will wash out within 48 - 72 hours. Let-s say, the same amount as some scientist discovered. 6 - 8 glasses a day.

Make sure you get a lot of fresh air and exercise, it will help your brain recover

Have faith. Thinking you can-t do it over and over won-t help.
He should mainly be doing it for himself. Remember it-s him that has to live his life when he is older with the results of smoking, not his girlfriend. I suggest he direct his attention to something else. My dad was a hardcore smoker. He smoked since he was 18 till he was 38. More than a pack a day. He did a 3 step quit smoking patch set, that he bought at the store. I would suggest getting into something like that, and try chewing something like sunflower seeds or gum. They-re low in calories and they give him something to do with his mouth if he is having a craving.
I highly recommend a prescription drug called Chantix. I have tried many times before and this drug is absolutely wonderful!!!!

How can i quit smoking weed wasted 20 pound a day for past ten years HELP? -

First you gotta realise that cold turkey is the only way which is difficult but the best way if you are SERIOUS about quitting weed.

The next is that marijuana addiction is a psychological addiction not a physical one ... you cannot become dependant on weed like you can on cigarettes.

This means you gotta find a way of thinking that will help you overcome the cravings and realise you are better off without it.

This article might help you get started:
--

5 Steps To Quit Smoking Pot – The Beginning

To quit smoking marijuana you need a plan of action, a way forward and a reason and motivation stronger than your cravings to get through it. Many people who try to quit however do so in a haphazard way thinking that it will either be easy and having no plan except to stop or perhaps they know it is going to be hard and their plan of action is hampered by fear and a lack of understanding of the driving forces of their addiction. Steps to quit smoking pot at the very beginning are a vital thing to lay the groundwork for a successful break from smoking marijuana but do need to be modified for circumstance. Here are 5 steps you can take immediately to get you started!

1. Remove Temptation to Smoke Marijuana
There is a certain amount of intellectual dishonesty that many addicts entertain when they resolve to quit smoking weed that is a major indicator of not really committing and allowing a relapse and that is often to do with not removing the temptation to smoke completely. If you really want to quit do not leave anything to do with smoking pot around the house for instance. Get rid of all your stash, all your bongs and smoking paraphernalia as well as lighters or any ’stoner’ culture stuff like posters and so on. Purge it from your life to remove longing and triggers for cravings. If you let it become EASY to take it back up again you are actually leaving the door to relapse wide open often out of fear of change and fear you cannot handle life without it.

Well you cant stop unless you are really motivated, and by the look of your question you have been smoking a lot for a long time, so you will find it hard. there is no 2 ways about it, you will have 2 try really HARD and not give in to temptation. firts of all try cutting down gradually and as bad as that sounds already you should steer clear of any bad influences. try to get into more activities to take your mind off it. Its gonna be hard but in the end you will see that its all worth it. And if you still find it hard try going into rehab.
You are your own psychology patient so the trick is to reward yourself.
For example, if you go 2 days without smoking weed, reward yourself by smoking some weed.
Cutting down on your habits until you find something to do to keep you from smoking at all.
And for the record no one can smoke 20lbs a day by themselves.
you cant stop right away try taking 10 pounds worth a day for a few weeks, come off it gradually thats what i did, start with having single skinners too

pounds as in uk ££££-s
by cutting down, dont go cold turkey at once!
find something to take ur mind off it

When you quit smoking how long does it take to breath better? -

I have been researching this a little lately (12 days w/o a smoke!!!) I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and getting my wind back was a very important reason for quitting.
This is what I have been able to gather.

Lung function will START to improve in as little as 2-3 weeks. Remember, I said START. The truth is it may take up to 10 years for your lungs to look like those of a non smoker. But, the initial improvement will begin soon.

Doing lung exercises, or regular aerobic exercise, can speed this up. Also, if you are trying to detox any part of your body, there is no substitute for drinking plenty of water.

I quit with Green Smoke. greensmoke.com/florida
12 days and doing great. Easier than I thought.
Hello!

At least 2-3 days is required to your breath become normal. Of course you need to not smoke and using the toothpaste to clean your tooth.
Check aSmoking.com for more information.
2-4 weeks. your body starts to repair itself almost immediately

Please provide me some tips/Method to quit smoking
try the electronic cigarette. it offers a solution for both of your problems: an addiction to nicotine and an addiction to the action.

unlike the gum or the patch which does you, you dose yourself. you smoke your e-cig like you would a regular cig. as there is no tobacco, there is no second hand smoke and most importantly, no carcinogens for you!

definitely worth a try. i have tried to quit six times now and so far, this has been the most successful. i have no anxiety, i am not stuffing my face, and i am getting to the point where i disgust myself when i have a real smoke.

maybe it isn-t about quitting, but changing.
Try out some effective, simple and drug-free methods to quit smoking naturally. Try to review some companies that provide products that will help you to quit smoking naturally without any drug medication that could lead to negative long-term effects for the rest of your life. Good luck.

I quit smoking and I have no energy, its been three months and I just dont feel any better, is this common? -

Quiting smoking and lackof energy have nothing to do with eachother whether it be a day or a month. Possibly depression which could be a cause of lack of energy. But it could also be a coinsidence of a health issue that may have been masked while you were smoking. It is not uncommon for your body to ignore an issue (smaller)because it is under attack constent (smoking). Then when it can, it will start to fight what ever else may be wrong.

So with that being said.
Do you feel down (depressed)? That can take a while after stopping....cigarettes are our best friends for a long time and help us thru every situation and kicking those friend to the curb is though but needed..

Maybe time to just get in for a chec up and blood work just to be certain all is working great !!!
hey ..you-ve gone this far to take the step to make sure you are going to be healthy what is one more :-)

Then you rest easy !!!!
Keep up the good work !!

B) eating a fast food place? only bring $5 or $6 so you cant eat more than one meal

C) try eating a meal before, so that maybe you can curb your appetite.

How long should i wait before joining a gym after quitting smoking? -

i have been smoking for 12 years. i want to quit, and start taking up exercise and getting myself into shape. how long would i have to wait before starting to get fit/go to gym? ive heard its not healthy to start as soon as u have given up smoking? thanks
you should go to your doctor and see what he/she has to say. everybody-s body is different, so you should see what would be the best for you.
start straight away if you havent quite smoking still go to the gym.dont waste any time. lots of sports people smoke so get going, in time you will be pleased that you did . happy training
Ha!
Wait about 2 seconds.
The sooner you get started getting you body back in shape and your lungs clear, the better.
Great job on quitting!!!!
quitting smoking isnt going to be easy id suggest using working out to wean yourself off the cigs start off slow you get a craving for a smoke and you do ten pushups work on getting into working out slowly and the same with getting out of smoking. the working out will help take your mind off your cravings.

i dont see where it would matter much how long u waited to work out but if you want to be deffinate ask a doctor...but if dont think its a great idea to have a doctor help you quit with a plan my parents tried that and the doctor nagged at them for not quitting fast enough and it stressed them out and they still smoke

good luck with everything
Check with your doctor first. Your doctor can recommend a good program for you to help you. Good luck...I have a smoker trying to quit here, too!!

Tell some effective ways to quit smoking? -

Tell some effective ways to quit smoking? -

What are some effective ways to quit smoking?

While there is no one best way to quit smoking, you will be most successful if you are aware of the challenges ahead, find support, and prepare a plan to keep you on track. Here are some basic steps to quitting:

S = Set a quit date.
T = Tell family, friends, and co-workers that you plan to quit.
A = Anticipate and plan for the challenges you-ll face while quitting.
R = Remove cigarettes and other tobacco products from your home, car, and work.
T = Talk to your doctor about getting help to quit.

Be realistic. Quitting is not an easy undertaking. It requires effort, determination and commitment.
-Accept the fact that you need to quit. Do not deny the
adverse health effects that you are unnecessarily putting yourself (and those around you) through.
-Be prepared for anxious and resistant feelings. Since nicotine is habit-forming, just thinking about quitting may make you feel anxious – this is quite common. Give yourself a specified amount of time to identify and move beyond these feelings.
-Take quitting one day at a time, even one minute at a time—whatever you need to succeed and find support!
-Develop a quit plan that works best for your needs.
-Talk to your doctor or health professional to help develop a plan.
-Enlist the help of family and friends by telling them about your plans.
-Ask others who have quit how they handled withdrawal symptoms – both psychological and physical.
-Learn new behaviors.

.maybe hypnosis
Oh, I was just about to post this same question because I have a terrible addition. I think we know the answers, but my mother said to put pray to God to stop and then put it in his hands to give you strength to say no more.

I heard the stop smoking shot was amazing, but my Mother stopped 5 years ago, and she said it was the Grace of God!

seriously. tired of smoking it but cant seem to get away.
If all your friends smoke too, then either get away from them when they do or smoke a black - mild or something else when they do.

You can join a sports team or a sport you have a passion for. If you have a passion for it - train hard, you won-t want to smoke because of your training - how it-ll throw you off course.

Start planning more with your time with an agenda - keep up your goals. Keep yourself outside more than inside watching tv or chilling.

Good luck! Its hard if you-re a causal smoker. Remember life is full of akward moments, it just makes things more interesting if you sit through it all soberly.
flush what you got. don-t even think about it--just do it. no matter how much it is--just flush it. Then, do not hang around any one that smokes it.

Have some willpower to quit.
just dont buy it, thats what i did
try working out instead. i had to stop cuz my connection moved....that-s another way to stop. plus, think of all the money you-ll save.
Dont be retarded.
Just stop it!
Think about the money spent, the time spend getting high, and see how you can apply it to something productive. I am not saying you shouldn-t smoke maryjane, but if you wanna quit, think about those things. I am a cheapskate, so the money loss plus the time was enough to convince me to not even start. :-O
substitute it with another bad habit, like drinking! ;)

I want to quit smoking, because it-s gross, but I don-t want to get crabby, or gain weight. Has anyone out there been successful with a particular method? Help please...
Contact the Quitline and join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
four years ago I quit using the tablet, patches and gum. I started to smoke again last year and craved it continually through out the past 4 years. So in January this year, I just quit. I decided that I wanted to and I did it. I haven-t craved any, I did at first, but then got over it. I stopped coffee for a while and replaced my morning cafine burst with an energy drink instead. As for the wieght gain, I decided that instead of smoking or eating when I was bored, I would actually get up and do something. Go for a walk, take up a hobby, or make a goal. The other day, I went out and everyone was smoking around me and for the first time I felt sick not went, I want...

Cold turkey is the only way to go. You need to think like a non smoker, so for example, when you get a craving think, what would a non-smoker do now, and you will quit. Thinking like a quitter will only make you always a quitter. Make the decission, tell everyone your doing it so they can not stand around and smoke near you or ask if you want one, and just do it. (My psychologist said about the think like a non-smoker bit, she said it has helped heaps of people.)

Most importantly, good luck, and I hope you do it.
There-s a new drug on the market called Chantix. It-s supposed to control your Nicotine cravings within the brain itself, therefore you-re supposed to not have withdrawal symptoms like crabbiness. You-ll need a prescription and you-ll have to take it for two months, but if it works, then it-s worth it.
some eat gum or candies if they start on craving cigarretes due to its withrawal symptoms, you can also try it if it can work for you too.

you dont gain weight beacause you quit smoking. you gain weight bec you eat much!

and you can taper your smoking pattern, reducing each time so your body will better adapt..
Had a quick search around the internet and found a great website all about quitting smoking.

Hope it helps. keep strong you can do it
When people stop smoking they tend to focus that energy on something else like eating which is why they gain weight. You need to find out why your smoking.. and goodluck!
No matter what type of method you use, you are going to have some discomfort, because nicotine is a potent drug and is more difficult to quit than any other.

I am now taking Chantix (need prescription from your doctor for it) twice a day. It has really helped me . I went from 30 cigarettes down to 15, then down to 8 and pretty soon I will be off them completely (after 33 years of smoking).
My family says I have been quiet and tired, but not as crabby as I was when trying to quit with the other methods.
I quit smoking cold turkey, however I used nicorette patches for the first week. the key to successfully quitting and not starting again, is to be break all the old habits, like I used to smoke after my meals, so i made sure i washed the dishes really slowly and then wiped up so I-d stay busy and not want to smoke. Its hard but can be done! YOU CAN DO IT! - also, make sure you-ve got healthy snacks in the fridge at all times! dont- get caught out by eating junky food cause then you-ll stack on the weight! good luck friend.

How do you get your boyfriend to quit smoking cigarettes? -

First, you have to know that he won-t quit, unless he has the desire and will to do that. Of course you can be a great support, but he has to want it. You can speak with him and tell him that it-s his health you care about. Read about all the bad consequences of smoking and tell him. You can also say that if he quits smoking, he will be much better at doing all kinds of physical activities, he will have better taste for food. If that doesn-t help (now this may sound a little rude, but a friend of mine made many boyfriends of her quit smoking like that), tell him that you don-t like kissing an ash-tray, or if you don-t want to be that harsh, give him an inkling that you don-t like his breath or his clothes smelling like cigarettes. Once he decides to quit smoking it-s very important that you fully support him. He may act a little nervous at first, but try not to pay attention. When you go to restaurants or cafeterias, always sit in the non-smokers area. Express your approval for his every small achievement. You can say things like - I-m so proud of you! You haven-t smoked for 3 days already! I knew you could do it, because I believe in you! That-s my man!- This will help a lot. You can also plan picnic in the fresh air, or give him some sort of a price with every achievement. Don-t forget to support him - he will be grateful to you!
Tell him that he doesn-t get -any- until he quits.
Actually, you can-t MAKE him quit. He is the one who must decide to stop smoking and he must have the will to do it, or it wont work. There are different methods which can help a person to stop smoking...patches, changes of habit, etc.
If it-s extremely difficult for him to stop,he should consult his Dr.
Usually when someone is nagged they put up a defense and refuse to do anything they are told, no matter HOW GOOD or SMART it is. He has to decide on his own. I wish it was as easy as saying a magical word and they would go WOW I think I need to quit. Just remind him that you love him and that you hope for his own health he quits some day.
Well here-s a thought i have a solution to another problem you can find out if he loves you or not,try to get him some help, also try to get him some of those quit smoking kind of gums and if he doesn-t listen to those tell him if he doesn-t quit smoking that you are going to dumb him
I read that if you take licorice root, when you try to smoke a cigarette it gives you a really bad taste in your mouth.
buy him some nicotine patches or something....
My mommy actually got hypnotized to stop smoking. The lady told her that if she smoked again, it would taste like crap. My mom tried, and she swears to gosh that she about threw up.

But I saw a thing on Dr. Phil or Oprah or something that sounded like it would work pretty well. Ask them if they would die for you. If they say yes, then say -well why don-t you live for me?- I guess you-d have to be super close to the person if you say that, but nevertheless, it sounds pretty good. Good luck!
If he already knows you hate it and want him to quit then cut him a deal. Is there anything that you do that he would want you to quit? You do that and he-ll quit cigarettes.
from personal experience, I can tell you that people will quit if and when they are ready to. I have heard that quitting smoking is harding than kicking a heroin habit, it is very difficult. I have been trying to quit for over a year, and though I smoke quite a bit less than I used to, I just can-t stop. It-s a mental thing, and it takes a lot of self discipline. Truth is, no one will quit unless they want to, and they have to really really want to.
You don-t. People won-t quit to save their lives so why would they for your girlfirend? I-m sorry that it-s not the answer you wanted but everyone I have known who has quit had to make the decision themselves and get crazy. If he does, warning! He will be grouchy! You might have prefered the smokes.

What is life expecting of someone who has COPD and is on oxygen and has just quit smoking? -

What is life expecting of someone who has COPD and is on oxygen and has just quit smoking? -

That can not be answered on Yahoo Answers or any other site like it. Life expectancy can be very different for someone with underling medical conditions along with COPD. Obstructive Sleep apnea, heart disease, diabetes and an other chronic disease can severely complicate the COPD process.

My suggestion to you is to find a local pulmonary rehab program. Their goal is to help COPD patients live a longer life with a higher quality of life style.

Good luck

If the FDA makes cigarettes contain less nicotine (or none at all) will it be easier to quit smoking? -

If the FDA makes cigarettes contain less nicotine (or none at all) will it be easier to quit smoking? -

No, because smokers just smoke more cigs or inhale more deeply or take more puffs to get the nicotine they-re accustomed to. That-s why low-nicotine cigarettes don-t do any good, in fact, they do harm because people inhale more smoke to get their nicotine fix so their cancer risk actually goes up.

I believe the law bars the FDA from eliminating nicotine, and I think that-s wise. If they did, it would just be a form of prohibition and it would create a black market.
In theory it seems like smoking cigarettes containing less or no nicotine would make it easier to quit smoking, however, I suspect that smokers would in fact smoke more in an attempt to achieve the satisfaction level they received when they were smoking the cigarettes they are currently smoking.
yes

1. stop hanging around people who smoke.
2. No more High Times mags.
3. No more weed movies.

Have you heard about e-cigarette ? It-s the generation next cigarette which omits smoke vapours 0% harmful for health. As mentioned in this article (refer under given weblink) -It feels like a cigarette, looks like a cigarette but it isn-t bad for your health-. Its the latest way to quit smoking.

just quit it is non addictive did it for years and quit cold turkey
Just put the doobie down dude..........
Find another habit that you can engage in during the time that you-re used to smoking. It-s very hard to give up a habit without having something else to take its place. Good luck!
Start by putting down the bong.

Then find something else to do... replace the relatively benign addiction with something else.

~A
tHE ONLY THING YOU HAVE GOT TO DO IS STOP HANGING AROUND WITH SMOKERS/DEALERS.
Sorry about the caps.
hey im 19 , i remember I started smoking weed when i was 13! and I too was a kronic kronic smoker , but I been clean for a year now, I started seeing all my friends selling dope and going to jail , and others started to do heavier stuff like haroine and lsd. I sighned up at the local gym one night , randomly. I started lifting weights , and I met a guy there who was a boxing trainer , and I sighned up at his gym. just find a physical activity you always wanted to do , and go for it man , and trust me after being blazed outa your mind for 7 years , being sober is a trip. go jogging , you will fell how much more energized and cleansed you fell...and a joggers high is always free. and plus try to quit so you can have more money in your pocket. save up for a nice home gym , or a really fast car, I dunno what ever your into. I started blazin all the time because I didnt want to face my inner dreams , so 2morrow morning start with a jog around the neighboor hood , and ur addiction will start fading away from there , I mean it worked for me.
Why would you quit?
But seriously pot is not addictive. Just throw out, smoke or give the pot u have in ur house to friends (or me lol) and dont buy anymore. if your around friends who smoke tell them not to let u smoke before they light up.
Just say -NO-! lol. No, but seriously, depending on how addicted you are, if you cant do it on your own, you need support. Whether that be from friends and family, or admitting yourself into a Treatment/Rehab program...Rehab is not as bad as you may think..I had to go to get off of Vicodin, and remember that even in recovery, you still may relapse,(smoke pot again0, but dont quit quitting! Look up Narcotics Anonymous, or marijuana anonymous, or rehab for pot heads...Just remember that you can do it...obviously you have the desire to quit, if you lose the desire to quit smoking, then it will be almost impossible for you to quit. Look into a 12 step program for help! Good Luck!!

i have to quit smoking for about 10 days to pass a nicotine/drug test.
will that be enough time and any tips to help get nicotine out of my system?
Yes, that-s enough time.

When they test for tobacco use, they test for a chemical called cotinine, which is a break down product of nicotine.

It usually only stays in your blood for about 2-4 days, and it-s very rare that they can detect it much beyond a week.

10 days is therefore a very sensible and safe period, long enough to let all the cotinine clear your system, so you don-t need to worry about doing anything special trying to get it to out.

You have to be strict though, and don-t have a single puff, as that will take several days to clear and you don-t know how sensitive their tests are.
im happy that you are trying to quit smoking
dont just do it for 10day quit forever and you could live longer

try those citarette stick things that are made of plastic or try nicotine patches

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

If you-ve been smoking a long time, and you decide to go cold turkey, (it-s hard but the fastest way to break the addiction), do yourself a favor and warn friends and family and then stay away from them the first 72 hours as much as possible. This is how long your body takes to detox from the nicotine and you might anger those around you enough for a lynching. I-ve seen it, it-s not pretty.
A cold Turkey. If you got the guts
I had great success using nicotine patches. Be sure to put on a patch with no more nicitine released than what you are smoking now. I personally put the patch on a little later every day and took it off a littler earlier every day for 1 to 2 weeks. I also kept around lots of hard candies (love jolly ranchers) to get out of the habit of hand to mouth motion.

good luck

here-s how i quit successfully: make a list of all of the reasons why you don-t want to smoke. get graphic. you-ll need to rely on this later. then, slowly begin to reduce your cigarette consumption by 1 cigarette a day...One great tool i used was simply deep breaths. Every time i felt the urge, i would inhale deeply, really taking it in, and that would relax me. you get over those cravings! i-ve been smoke-free for 3 years and will never go back. it-s a great feeling to be free of that burden. i feel both proud and healthier. avoid places and situations in which you smoke, and abide by this mantra: -Just Don-t Do It.- i wish you success!
Cold Turkey!!! I quit October 6th. I just didn-t buy another pack. I now chew on straws when I get the urge

For those of you that have quit smoking? -

i quit smoking a little more than 3 months ago. it was easier to quit than i thought it would be, probably because i am pregnant and i did it for my unborn, as i had been unable to do it before when it was just for myself. i had been a pack a day (at least) smoker for 13 years. but still everytime i see someone light up or smell smoke i have a ridiculous craving. when does this pass?
Sigh...I agree that they probably never go away either. I usually hate the smell of cigarettes though, the only time it is hard for me is when I am drinking alcohol. I quit after I had my daughter because I read that cigarettes are concentrated in your milk. Then after a year, I started again, only when I drank. Then I started drinking more so I could smoke...ha ha! So then I got pregnant again and quit again for about 2yrs or more. Started again after stopping breastfeeding, only when I drank, AGAIN....sigh. Now I am pregnant again, so I will quit again and I don-t plan on ever having a cigarette again. Even if that means I can never drink alcohol again. It-s weird though. My cravings went away after quitting for my kids. I just never really craved them. Especially after time. Cigarettes just smelled disgusting to me and still do. But when I drink.....I dunno why, I just HAVE TO have one. Good luck to you and just remember that it-s not only you that-s smoking that cigarette, it-s your little baby inside too. That should override the cravings. Try munching on carrot and celery sticks or something healthy. That will benefit your baby much more! If you have cravings after having your baby (and breastfeeding) you can try the herb lobelia. I heard of many successes with it. Also, acupuncture is supposed to be very effective. You can probably even do that during pregnancy. Have a great day!
When I got asthma (due to
a neighbor-s burn barrel), I
was faced with quitting the
cigs or death. I simply could
not breath. But like you, I
would hang around smokers
and breath deeply.
I don-t really see anything
wrong with that. The craving
subsides and pretty soon the
smell of cigs will just about
make you vomit...especially
if you-re pregnant. Instead of
inhaling deeply, just get a
smell and walk away.
Keep some strong smelling gum handy. Something like Juicy Fruit that will overpower the smoke smell with it-s own smell. That fresh smell will be a distraction from the smoke and a proud reminder to you that you have quit and intend to stay that way! Good luck!
Over 2 years here (February 14th) and I still have them

My mom-s been over 10 and I think she still has them.

Everyone is different, just don-t give in to them. I-ve heard deep cleansing breaths work or sucking on a straw.
never, boo hoo :(
It took me about 6 months to not really want one when someone lit up.
But thanx to my sturdy will, I am still smoke free after 14 years.

I know it-s because of nicotine... but what-s happening inside the brain?
It really isn-t hard to quit if you have the right kind of help.

It sure helped me. I hope it helps you as well.
Good Luck!
Nicotine is a powerful drug found in all tobacco products. It is a highly addictive drug like cocaine and heroine! Tobacco smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals in addition to nicotine, some toxic and known to cause cancer.Over 4000,000 Americans die each year from smoking related illnesses.Over 50,000 Americans die each year from illnesses caused by second hand smoke. Many people will quit 5 to 7 times before quitting for good.Nicotine releases certain hormones in the brain which give senses of a high! These hormones give you a sense of euphoria like other drugs! I am trying to quit there is much help out there today! GL
It is hard because, nicotine is an addictive drug. You just want more and more.the chemicals in nicotine are also killing the brain cells.
Smoking alters brain -like drugs-

Cigarettes were found to affect brain chemicals
Smoking cigarettes causes the same changes to the brain as using illicit drugs like cocaine, a study suggests.
US researchers compared post-mortem brain tissue samples from smokers, former smokers and non-smokers.

Their findings, published in Journal of Neuroscience, suggested smoking causes changes to the brain which are evident years after someone has quit.

A UK expert said the changes might explain why smokers found it hard to stop - and why they then relapsed.

The researchers from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (Nida) looked at samples of human brain tissue from the nucleus accumbens and the ventral midbrain - brain regions that play a part in controlling addictive behaviours.

Eight samples were taken from people who had smoked until their deaths, eight from people who had smoked for up to 25 years before their death and eight non-smokers.

All died of causes unrelated to smoking.

Relapse

The scientists looked at levels of two enzymes - protein kinase A and adenylate cyclase. Both translate chemical signals, such as dopamine, which exist outside the cells, into a form that can be understood inside.

It would be surprising if taking large doses of a drug such as nicotine many times a day over many years did not result in lasting changes in the brain

Dr John Stapleton, National Addictions Centre

Smokers were found to have higher levels of these enzymes in the nucleus accumbens, a part of the brain that processes information related to motivation and reward, which virtually all illicit drugs act upon.

But levels of both enzymes were also found to be high in the area of the midbrain that responds to dopamine, which acts as a -reward chemical- in smokers and former smokers.

The same changes had previously been seen in the brains of rats given repeated injections of cocaine and morphine.

Writing in the Journal of Neuroscience, the team led by Dr Bruce Hope, said: -The present study confirms that drug-induced neuroadaptations [brain changes] observed in animals can also be observed in humans.-

The researchers suggest that the differences seen in both smokers- and non-smokers- brains -may contribute to long-lasting alterations in nicotine-induced reward and addiction in humans-.

The researchers say this suggests that the changes persist long after smoking has ceased and could contribute to drug relapse.

Dr John Stapleton, of the National Addictions Centre at King-s College London, said: -It would be surprising if taking large doses of a drug such as nicotine many times a day over many years did not result in lasting changes in the brain.

-The new results may take us closer to understanding these changes.

-The key question remains as to whether such changes are partly responsible for the intractable nature of smoking and relapse after many months or years of stopping.-
Nicotine acts on Acetylcholine receptors in the brain.

Our brain cells and nerves often use Acetylcholine to tell the other cells around them to turn on.

As we smoke nicotine, it makes our body adjust to the action by reducing its own Acetylcholine out put to avoid over stimulation.

So when we stop smoking nicotine we have a deficient of nerve and brain action causing a bad mood and sick feeling.

This is what makes it so so addicting.
its partly because of the nicotine, but alot of it is the ritual itself. Smokers get used to the ritual of having a cig after every meal, etc. and it becomes hard to stop.
Quitting smoking is like trying to quit heroin. Receptors in the brain make you crave the nicotine. Nicotine patches slowly release nicotine to keep the receptors from driving you crazy with desire to smoke to give them the nicotine they are craving. Check out www.mytimetoquit.com.
In addition to nicotine, you are taking up to 4000 other chemicals into your body with the smoke. We don-t know the addictive affects of them yet. Also, doing the same thing repettively 10 or more times a day, forms a habit. And even further, we use tobacco to reward ourselves, soothe our nerves, etc.

So, basically we develop links with tobacco to almost everything we do. The addiction goes real deep and is very hard to break up, but you can do it.
well there addited and its hard to stop.

I recently quit smoking and ever since, I have these canqor sores all over my mouth and gums, whats up? -

I recently quit smoking and ever since, I have these canqor sores all over my mouth and gums, what-s up?
That-s got nothing to do with quitting smoking. Keep up the good work! I quit about two months ago and the further I get away from it, the easier it is. I PROMISE!!

As for those sores, they happen from time to time. They can be irritated by acidic foods; fruits, vinegar, mustard, OJ, etc. Steer clear for several days.

Rinse with a warm salt water solution a few times a day adn try not to play with them. They-ll go away.
there is no known cause for cancker sores. Some studies show a pattern of them occuring when a person is under stress at work, home, diet dificiencis etc. Look to see if you have been under stress about something. It could also be the stress of withdrwal if you are constantly craving a cig. Cancker sores are self limiting meaning they go away on their own. If they are tender then use some orajel for cancker sore sold at walgrens or walmart to alleviate the discomfort.
Not sure, never heard of that before. Maybe you should join a -quit smoking- online forum and ask there. Or, go to you doctor. Good luck though.
smoking kills bacteria, try a mouthwash and make a app. with your doc
Could be gum disease.

I bought the Allen Carr book quot; Easy way to quit smoking quot; do you think it works? -

I read the whole book last night, and its wiered i have totally change my thoughts on cigarettes. I have had some withdrawl symtons but nothing major, i keep telling my self i dont need to smoke and it works.
Surely you dont need a book to tell you how to quit smoking?

I can tell you that for the price of the book.

I quit a year ago by going -cold turkey-. Makes you feel much better
I actually went to one of his clinics to cure me.
The first thing I did when I came out 6 hours later was to light
up...that shud answer the question...
I started the chewing gum...and that did work...havnt smoked in 2 years...but still taking the gum.
yeah i only read half the book and managed to stop for 3 months really easily.

eventually i went cold turkey and have done it for about 3 years, but much easier with the book.

good luck with it buddy
Well I gave up on 26th August 2007 after reading the book and have not (and will not) smoked since and can not believe that I did that for all those years!
There were hard days (and may be more to come) but the important thing is to stick with it, the book would not be the same second time round....If I can do it anyone can.
Keep up the work!
Great Book. Worked for me. It-s a shame the NHS doesn-t reccomend it instead of all those pointless Nicotine Replacement Therapy products.
My son has smoked for 20 years. Bought and read the Alan Carr book and has given up without too much difficulty.
I have not read this, but I understand that it is successful, and I understand why, it brings and keeps the negative aspects to the front of the mind, and provides good defence against the addictive thoughts. This is my next project now I-ve beaten the booze using a similar concept...
You can only give up if you WANT to give up.

If you still love your ciggies, you will start again.
good luck and keep to your own will power .The worst will be when you go out that is when you need all your will power .
GOOD LUCK AND WELL DONE ALL THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn-t read the Allen Carr book when I gave up smoking but I did read an article in a Sunday magazine that he wrote and I followed his instructions. That was 16 years ago and I haven-t smoked since so I would say that it can work very well indeed.
He is a gay comidian. Whay does he know about smoking or humour for that matter?
You don-t need a stupid book to tell you how to quit smoking. It takes willpower.
One of the best ways to stop smoking, is to just gradually smoke less cigarettes each day/week, and eventually you will find you can resist it more easily.
Don-t stop right away, it makes you feel sick

Has anyone had any negative side effects when taking Chantix to quit smoking? -

Few people get negative side effects from usng Chantix and those that do generally don-t have them for very long. For more Chantix information, please click the following link:
http://www.121doc.co.uk/affiliate/script…

Today is day 8 for me on Chantix. I will tell you the side effects I have experienced. First and foremost are these insane dreams. They are so vivid and real that I think they actually happened. Last night I dreamed my middle son told me my dogs tore up my fence, so this morning I got up, got dressed to go fix the fence and it was in perfect shape. When I called my son, he informed me he never sopke to me about the fence.

This is one example among many. It is almost twilight zoney stuff. I either saw a great commercial for sunless tanning lotion or I missed my calling and should be writing commercials! The dreams are not scary or spookey just so real you actually think things happned to you.

The other side effects I have had include EXTREME tiredness. I am a go go go type person, my daughter in law says I never sit down. But since I have been taking chantix it seems an effort to simply walk to the kitchen for a drink. Now, if you could go to sleep that would be great, but I have had a maxium of 2 hours uniterrupted sleep in the past eight days. I find myself waking up, walking around the house for a couple of hours and laying back down. I have even begun coming home from work at 5 and napping on the couch for an hour or so. I normally get between 6-8 hours of sleep a night, no problem. So, this new sleeping pattern is killing me. Oh Yeah! Dont forget the two hours I do sleep I have conversations I would swear were real!

The upset stomache has not been that big a deal for me, it passes quickly. I have noticed headaches and swelling but not enough to make me want to stop taking the medicine.

I keep hoping the dreams stop and I can get some sleep.
I used chantix to quit smoking the only side effect I had was after I had used it for three days I got sick and threw up when I smoked a ciggarette and that was it other than really bad acne for about a month. I think chantix was great I have been smoke free for almost 3 months now . But chantix will make you blow chunks throw up .

College student who wants to quit smoking..? -

College student who wants to quit smoking..? -

I am a freshman in college and have been smoking now for 5-6 years. I have found that it is depleting my health and is making it very hard for me to work out. It is also a social thing ( your taboo socially if you smoke). I am about to transfer schools and would really like to quit before I go. I have trouble with it though because of stress at school and I smoke when i-m studying or bored. What can I do to quit smoking and still maintain a healthy weight and stress level?
First you have to really want to quit. I had tried a few times and it didn-t work because deep down I didn-t want to.
The best thing for me was cold turkey, smoke the last one and buy a bag of suckers. The suckers keep your hand busy taking things to your mouth like a cigarette. Suckers are good cause you wont gain a bunch of unwanted weight from constant eating.
That was almost 10 years ago, still a non-smoker.
Thanks and good luck.

find another outlet for your stress, and just stop buying the cigarettes. you can buy the stop smoking patches or other aids but really, willpower and determination are what is going to let you succeed. i smoked for over 20 years.. i finally quit last year when i figured it was holding me back financially. that extra hundred dollars a month i saved not buying cigs--, they are about five dollars a pack here, went to a gym membership to stay in shape. try using pretzels or sugar free mints to take the place for a while and you wont put on a lot of weight.
good luck and dont give up.
I smoked for thirty-three years. I smoked cigarettes, then filter-tipped cigars, and finally a pipe before I quit.
My medical plan where I work paid for my visits to a psychologist, who hypnotized me in a one-on-one session.
I haven-t smoked since.
It-s now 6 years and counting.
Good luck to you!
WILL POWER, THE PATCH, HYPNOTIZE, ACUPUNCTURE
try going to groups for that, and join clubs or take up hobbies to keep u busy,,most important thing is ur real desire to quit..gl i make it..
Welcome to the non smokers club!!!! Soon you will be one. It is the best decision you are making for yourself and your health.Make up your mind that you do not need these nicotine sticks, so then cut down, allow yourself lets say 15 a day, and start cutting to 12, 10 and so fort until you get down to three cigarettes after meals. By this time most of the nicotine is out of your body, so you can quit -cold turkey.- keep your hands busy with either writing typing or a hobby such as crochet or knitting, that needs to replace holding the cigarette. When you are free try to helpand be supportive of someone else wanting to to quit, and there are many that are becoming aware of the nicotine addiction and the morbid effects on ones health. Best wishes God bless
I managed to quit several years ago and I will pass on a little advice. If you are trully ready to quit, it doesn-t matter how you do it, it will work. If you are not ready, it doesn-t matter how you do it, it won-t work. I tried the patch and gum several different times. I tried cold turkey several times. When it finally worked I did the patch for a few days then I went to the beach for a week and forgot my patches. I realized after a few days that I didn-t really need them. I haven-t smoked in 8 years. Apparently I was finally ready.
Ashley - a lot of this really depends on your inner strength (i.e., will-power).
If you can focus on another activity that will keep your mind and body off tobacco, then you are half-way there.

I didn-t quit until I was 27...and only after I went through the same health effects that you have.
What got me off the leaf was when I watched a 15K run in my town and decided to take up running.
I found something to keep me busy and away from tobacco.

If anything, the fact that cigarette prices were going up (I think they were $1.25 a pack back in 1983) helped me kick the habit.
So if you do set a goal to stop, start putting the money you would have spent on the leaf in a jar and keep a record of that for a year.
Then, go out and buy something nice for yourself!
? ? use nicotine patches...chew gum...drink lots of liquids like water and orange juice...have healthy snacks around...? ?
I never want to start or try to smoke!!!
DONT BUY THE CIGARETTES

HOW can i help my boyfriend to quit smoking marijuana? -

HOW can i help my boyfriend to quit smoking marijuana? -

Tell him you will leave him and mean it. You will be one of the few things he looses in his life due to drugs. You stay and have a life with him you will be poor. Marijuana is not cheap, the longer you smoke the harder it is to stop.
Simple really, get rid of him until he does.It-s called tough love and it is really a start to make him think differently about pot or any other drug for himself not for anyone but himself, just using your presence as an enabler and he is not listening. Might start if he cares enough for his own well being and then yours.
Go for the G spot
Tell him you-ll leave him if he doesn-t quit. If he still doesn-t, than maybe he has problems beyond what you can help. You can probably do better.
You have to just let him quit on his own. There will come a time he will be denied a job or it will make him forget something very important or something really dumb and he will realize that it-s not worth it. Especially when he can no longer afford it. It-s too good of a feeling.
He has to want to quit in order to do so. Without the desire, there is no drive
Just like any other addiction, the person has to want to stop. You can-t do anything to help him or make him stop. If he enjoys it and would rather do that than be with you - then that is a choice only he can make.
DEAL FIRST WITH HIS SUBCONSCIOUS MIND. BUY HIM BOOKS ABOUT THE SUBJECT ONE CAN GREATLY BE TRANSFORMED BY READING THEM.

Gaining weight is a necessity!!!!

You need to be the healthiest you can before and after your baby arrives. I gained 50 pounds for my son and he was 7lbs 6ozs at birth. I had to learn how to eat and keep a diary of my eating. (not anorexic just horrible eating habits since birth and never had cravings.)

After you have your baby, you will need to keep eating health, especially if you decide to breastfeed. It is ESSENTIAL for producing the best milk for your baby.

Breastfeeding can help with some weight loss after your baby is born, but weight loss should be the last thing on your mind with a little one on the way. Trust me, you-ll start loosing weight when you have a crawler or toddler that gets into everything and you have to jump around chasing your little button!!!!

Please, think of your health and not your weight. It-s the best thing for both of you!!!!

Congrats on both your pregnancy and your quitting smoking!!!!

17+ years smoke free
8+ year old son

Healthy happy me

Hope the same for you!!!!
Its GOOD to gain weight when your pregnant. Its NOT if you dont. Dont worry about it......too much. Watch, you will become one of those fit moms that everyone loves. And good job quiting smoking. It must be hard but its for the best. Dont worry.
i dont mind gaining 200 pounds if i get pregnant. its the most beautiful thing that would ever happen to a woman. be proud and feel beautiful because you are
throughout my pregnancy i gained a total of 60 lbs scary huh? but everyone gains different amts and everyone is different. dont worry about how much u gain, as long as the baby is healthy u r fine.
honey! its normal to gain weight when preg. its unhealty NOT to gain any weight. congrats on losing the weight before, just rembember to keep your diet in check and it won-t be as hard to lose it post-pregnanacy.
When the baby comes out, it can weigh like 10 pounds. like 6-9 is a good estimate. And also, some of the weight is in your boobs, and some is just liquid that will go away. And i think that your blood gets heavier or something. But I know that after you have the baby, you weigh less than you did during pregnancy.

I would love to quit smoking but I haven-t been able to find a good product in the stores to help me. They all boast about their effectivness and maybe they work for some but I have smoked for years and they don-t work for me. I would like to find some natural products that don-t hurt my system and can take for as long as needed to kick this filthy habit.
Sincerely,
Daisymae
First off, congratulations for WANTING to quit smoking!!

As far as answering, there are a lot of ways, and it also depends on how long you-ve been smoking. The best ways are slowly lowering your dose (takes a long time sometimes), or going cold turkey (which is faster, but harder). Either way, the last thing is making the decision to quit, so you-ll eventually have to deal with the withdrawal.

For the most part, when you deal with withdrawal, you-ll just have to tough it out, but there are some things that can help cleanse out the toxins and may help to minimize some of the effects of withdrawal...
Drinking water will help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it-s not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).

All that being said, it-s likely that the symptoms should stop relatively shortly after your last pill (it-s never as long as it feels like it is). Your neurotransmitters don-t take too terribly long to scream for something they are addicted to after you stop.
Another important thing to note is that no matter how bad it gets, taking more of the drug (and yes, nicotine is a drug) will only make the withdrawal last longer and will be harder on you in the long run. Good luck, and congrats again!
I have tried several remedies not mentioned in your other responses. One is chewing on licorice and the other is drinking peppermint tea. Sadly neither one has worked for me. My friend was diagnosed with cancer and the dr. put her on Welbutrin (spelling?) and she was able to quit and believes it was the drug. Maybe, or the fear of dying, I don-t know. I wish you luck, in years past I was able to quit for ten years cold turkey and it wasn-t a problem, it sure is now! Good Luck!
I have been smoking for about 9 years, with 4 years moderate to heavy smoking. A year ago I decided to quit smoking using Tea Tree Australian Chewing sticks made by Thursday plantation these are very good and totally natural especially if you smoke menthols. However, during finals week at my school I was very stressed and caved in, smoking 1 cigarette. That along with the fact my boyfriend smokes like a Chimney was enough to put me back on the wagon for a couple of months. I chose to stop smoking again about four days ago and have been using the chew sticks whenever I get a craving and they have been so helpful. I recommend them to anyone who really wants to quit. They can be found at www.vitaminshoppe.com . Also you need to have a strong reason or motivator to keep you going during the times that you feel stressed or weak What was my motivation you ask? well I am dedicated to improving my health; eating better, exercising, and this includes NO Smoking for me.Whether its your kids, your health or your future find a reason and make the choice not to smoke anymore. It is hard at first but if you can get through the first 3 days without going mental then this is an extremely good indication that you can quit. As a psychology major we learn that with any drug addiction(yes nicotine is a drug and it-s as addictive as heroin) it takes 90 days(3 months) to form a new habit. After 90 days the nicotine should be out of your system but you could be psychologically addicted for the rest of your life depending on how long you have been smoking, meaning like any addict, even 10 years after being smoke free, it could take one bad situation to relapse. This means you, I or anyone else trying to quit will have to make a conscious effort everyday not to handle stressors and lifes problems by lighting up. On a positive note Quitting Smoking is one of the hardest things anyone can do so each day you don-t smoke you become a stronger, and healthier person every time you make that choice not to smoke.
Good Luck and Best wishes.
Sincerely,
Dasha
Hypnosis and Behavorial Therapy works great..But you have to completely change your life..If you have a cig with your morning coffee, quit drinking coffee..If you have to find nonsmoker friends as well..People say that when they are stressed that they need a cigarette..Doesn-t make sense, since nicotine is a stimulant...Believe it or not, it-s not the cigarette that relaxes you, it-s the deep breathing that you do that gives you the calming effect.. When your stressed, don-t forget to take nice soothing breaths from your diaphragm, not your chest..When you breath, make sure your stomach moves up and down...No breathe, no life...One more thing, if you go to party-s and bars and drink, that-s a social trigger, so i would eliminate that for a while...Best of luck!!!

How were you able to quit smoking? -

I am thinking about quitting. I cant afford it anymore and have had 2 family memebers already that have had lung cancer. I have tried the prescription meds before. They didnt work. I ended up wanting to smoke more. My mother says the patches dont work either and they leave like burns on her skin. Has anybody done anything else that has worked for them?
Here are 12 techniques that will help you quit the habit.
Remember - you can do it!

1. Deep Breathing Perhaps The Single Most Powerful And Important Technique: Every time you want a cigarette, do the following. Do it three times.

Inhale the deepest lung-full of air you can, and then, very slowly, exhale. Purse your lips so that the air must come out slowly. As you exhale, close your eyes, and let your chin gradually sink over onto your chest. Visualize all the tension leaving your body, slowly draining out of your fingers and toes, just flowing on out.

This is a variation of a yoga technique and is very relaxing. If you practice this, you-ll be able to use it for any future stressful situation you find yourself in. And it will be your greatest weapon during the strong cravings sure to assault you over the first few days
2. Taking In Fluids:
The first few days, drink LOTS of water and fluids to help flush out the nicotine and other poisons from your body.

Remember that the urge to smoke only lasts a few minutes, and will then pass. The urges gradually become farther and farther apart as the days go by.

3. Stay Away From Alcohol, Sugar And Coffee
Do your very best to stay away from alcohol, sugar and coffee the first week or longer, as these tend to stimulate the desire for a cigarette. Avoid fatty foods, as your metabolism will slow down a bit without the nicotine, and you may gain weight even if you eat the same amount as before quitting. So discipline about diet is extra important now. No one ever said acquiring new habits would be easy!

Nibble on low calorie foods like celery, apples and carrots. Chew gum or suck on cinnamon sticks.

Stretch out your meals; eat slowly and wait a bit between bites.

After dinner, instead of a cigarette, treat yourself to a cup of mint tea or a peppermint candy.
Taking An Oral Substitute --

In one study, about 25% of quitters found that an oral substitute was invaluable. Another 25% didn-t like the idea at all - they wanted a clean break with cigarettes. The rest weren-t certain.

One can use cinnamon sticks, chewing gum or artificial cigarettes as a substitute. You will mostly find that after the first week of being a non smoker, you wouldn’t even need these.

5. Get Exercising
Go to a gym, sit in the steam, exercise. Change your normal routine – take time to walk or even jog around the block or in the local park.

6.Pamper Yourself
Go ahead and join a yoga class or maybe reiki – they-re great! Get a one hour massage, take a long bath - pamper yourself. Get yourself involved in a hobby.

7. Ask For Support
Ask for support from co-workers, friends and family members. Ask for their tolerance. Let them know you-re quitting, and that you might be edgy or grumpy for a few days. If you don-t ask for support, you certainly won-t get any. If you do, you-ll be surprised how much it can help. Take a chance - try it and see!

Ask friends and family members not to smoke in your presence. Don-t be afraid to ask. This is more important than you may realize.

8. Destroy All Your Cigarettes
On your quit day, hide all ashtrays and destroy all your cigarettes, preferably with water, so no part of them is smokeable.

9. Write It Down
Write down ten good things about being a nonsmoker - and then write out ten bad things about smoking. Do it. It really helps.

10. Don’t Pretend
Don-t pretend smoking wasn-t enjoyable – it was. This is like losing a good friend – and it-s okay to grieve the loss. Feel that grief, don-t worry, it-s okay. Feel, and you heal. Stay with it - you can do it!
11. Affirm Yourself
Several times a day, quietly repeat to yourself the affirmation, -I am a nonsmoker.- Many quitters see themselves as smokers who are just not smoking for the moment. They have a self-image as smokers who still want a cigarette.

Silently repeating the affirmation -I am a nonsmoker- will help you change your view of yourself, and, even if it may seem silly to you, this is actually useful. Use it!

12. Holding Out
Here is perhaps the most valuable information among these points. In Phase 2, the period which begins a few weeks after quitting, the urges to smoke will subside considerably.

However, it-s vital to understand that from time to time, you will still be suddenly overwhelmed with a desire for -just one cigarette.- This will happen unexpectedly, during moments of stress, whether negative stress or positive (at a party, or on vacation). If you are unprepared to resist, succumbing to that -one cigarette- will lead you directly back to smoking.

Remember the following secret: in these surprise attacks during Phase 2 - and they will definitely come - do your deep breathing, and hold on for five minutes, and the urge will pass.

In conclusion
Remember that if you quit you will live longer and feel better. Quitting will lower your chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or cancer. The people you live with, especially children, will be healthier. If you are pregnant, you will improve your chances of having a healthy baby. And you will have extra money to spend on things other than cigarettes.

So get the information and support you need to make the stopping process a little easier. Seek the help of family and friends, and most important decide you want to do it and visualize yourself as a non-smoker.

Why do I gain weight after I quit smoking? -

Why do I gain weight after I quit smoking? -

I-ve gained close to 10 pounds. Am trying hard to stop myself from eating too much. It feels as though the food intake now has higher calories than when I was a smoker.
Weather you eat a lot more or not...you will gain weight after you quit smoking. Nicotine is a stimulant. It speeds up your metabolism and curbs your appetite.
As the stimulant leaves your system, your metabolism slows to it-s normal..non stimulant rate.
Naturally you will have cravings and a need to satisfy your oral fixation...try Twirlers..they are a low fat option!
Good Luck!!! Stay Strong!!!!
U tend to eat more due to depression caused by not smoking.

Eat nourishing food with plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables being part of it. Chew each morsel at least 32 times. This will activate signal to the brain as soon as u have had enough. Besides this change in eating style, take regular light exercises and brisk walks every day. U will be able to gain/shed all extra weight gracefully and in a reasonable time span.
smoking not only speeds up your metabolism but curbs your appetite.

not only that, but in the time youre not smoking a cigarette-what else is there to do? eat.

be careful. dont let gaining weight make you turn back to smoking.
Its a known fact, that once a person stops smoking, they tend to gain weight. This is because smoking suppresses a persons appetite, it makes you less hungry!
When you stop smoking, you have not got the nicotine there so you turn to food as an alternative craving!
Dont worry, just try not to turn to food, drink more water and chew some gum, and whenever your hungry eat some fruit!
because in place of nicotine we replace it with food.

I quit smoking a while ago, is it likely to have done any irreversible damage? -

I was smoking for 4 years in total - the first 2 years was only 1 or 2 cigarettes a day, then up to a couple of nights a week I would smoke half a pack socially. In the last 2 years of smoking I was having about 8 - 10 a day, and more in social situations. I quit 4 months ago and am now 23. Is it likely that most of the damage will heal? Being 4 months since I quit, would my body have recovered completely by now?
Consult your family doctor who will be in a position to tell youy exactly what harm has been done to your body or whether it is reversible or not. On the face of it I don-t think you have suffered any serious harm.
This is easy for me to say because I am not a smoker, but doesn-t every cigarette do you damage? You have been breathing tar into your lungs which will be there in some form, depending on how much you smoked before you stopped. I do know that when you stop smoking, your health improves though. I-m not sure if it improves 100% or what but you do notice a difference quickly. I would definately speak to your GP who will be able to give you more specific information. To get you started, have a look at this website:

http://www.health.gov.au/internet/wcms/p…

You might also want to call the Australian quit line on 131848 to ask them about your health status.
