When you quit smoking do you get a cold? -

I thought I heard that somewhere... Well I just quit smoking about 3 weeks ago and have crazy sinus pressure and congestion and starting to cough up brownish phlem this morning... I live in South Florida so I usually only get sick when the weather changes and so far it-s still in the high 8os here,lol.... So could this cold be from quitting smoking you think?
Noo.
I get b!tchy (:

How can I quit Smoking? -

How can I quit Smoking? -

I-m a compulsive smoker. I can-t stop. I-ve tried the patch, but I cant keep it lit. Ha Ha!
Just be strong and don-t do it. Find something else to replace it like meditation. You must find something good for you to replace it. Whether it-s taking a walk, drawing, singing, playing an instrument, something that will detoxify you.

Look up good videos on youtube that will help you.

also, my neighbor Mona HATES ciggeretes and they make her sick to her stomach. Her dad, as a teen, made her smoke a whole pack in one sitting while wtching her. She threw up and now is sickend by it. Better to smoke till you-re sick and not do it again then smoke here and there and suffer as an adult for every treachorous year.

p.s. I don-t recommend doing that

Also watch all these nasty videos of what smoking will do to you.
-seizures, cancer, suffication :(...eventually and painful suffering too :(, depression, weakness mentally and physically, deteriation of the lungs and body, self destruction.
Read articles until you feel sick and want to throw up because not only what you-re reading, but sick of reading. This feeling of sickness is a wake up call to your future self if you continue destruction

Good to you to make a brave smart step in your life!!
GOOD LUCK

The most successful quitters are those who put together a game plan with a specific goal in mind. Setting a final quit date is the first step. Smokers who have attempted to quit previously and were unsuccessful should consider the reasons behind their failure. Where there certain activities that should have been avoided? If so, make sure you write them down and avoid them this time. Expert help might be very beneficial. Talk to your doctor, a nurse or even a psychologist about quitting advice. Seek out quit smoking programs locally.
I smoked a pack a day for 12 years and I quit 2 months ago--just went cold turkey. I planned on it for about two weeks. I started by not smoking while at work so I would get used to being a little nicotine deprived so I wouldnt freak out. then when the day came, I just stopped. I had withdrawals where i had problems concentrating, I felt kind of spacey and easily irritated, but I kept telling myself that having a cigarette was not the answer and any nicotine I would have (including snuff or the patch or gum) would just make the withdrawals last longer. After about a week I felt normal. I go to bars a lot and thought it was going to be harder--but it has been much easier then I expected--so far! I have to say the one thing I do know---you have to actually want to quit because you no longer want to smoke. I loved smoking, but i really dont even think about it anymore and I feel go about that--too good to slip up one day when Im drunk. I tell myself that having one now would suck (no pun intended) and i would clip a buzz that would just make me feel sick. plus im starting to enjoy the small things--like easily walking up stairs and having clean smelling clothes. GOOD LUCK!
Sounds like You re not ready.
Unfortunately, Many people only make serious considerations to quit after they get really sick. And even after getting sick some people still continue to smoke.

It took me 33 attempts over 6 years to finally quit smoking. Pretty disgusting. ha ha ha

You need to be 100% sure you-re never gonna smoke again.

Try doing some research and find out how you should quit. maybe Watch some videos on YouTube, get yourself ready.

Another thing I wanted to add was that everybody has a different way of quitting. What works for me may not work for you, So you got to find out what is the best way for you. What I mean is that some methods are useful for some, and don-t work at all for others.Nicotine gum, patches, zyban, cold turkey may be useful for some but are not for others.
you want to want to stop... If you are Truly committed. chose one place in your house to smoke in.. or outside if you have an area. don-t smoke in your normal places... watching tv, on the computer. any place you spend a lot of time.. make sure it-s somewhere that is going to make you get up and go to that spot. the more you are inconvenienced the better. after eating instead of smoking try something else. keep your mind busy. get a cross word puzzle book, get carrots.. sounds funny but when you crave a cig. grab a carrot and pretend it-s the cig. it helps. it is something in between your fingers. Good Luck
Wean yourself off slowly (each week smoke a bit less frequently till you-re down to once a day, then go to every other day, every third day, etc.) and keep something to put in your mouth to occupy you (eg sunflower seeds, carrot sticks, whatever). Much easier (so I hear) than quitting cold turkey.

Of course, if you want to, you can go to a relative/friend-s house, stay there for a few weeks, and have them enforce a strict no-smoking rule (a lot of people are willing to do this just to see you quit). It worked for my grandpa!
Well maybe get your husband to hide it from you or if you don-t have a husband just try making your self stop you can do that make a calender of things not to do stuff and if you do the stuff get a friend to do something to you like get her or him to give you a strike1 strike 2 strike 3 if you get a strike 3 she will do something to you! :)

People here talk about their addiction to cigarettes and share their stories about how they managed to quit.

It might help you find what youre looking for.
There are other methods than the patch
I have 2 suggestions:

1.Find a partner of the opposite sex and keep on kissing.
2.Eat lots of celery and suck on hard candy (sugar-free).
Perhaps you can find some useful information in

.
Stop thinking about smoking. Focus on something else to keep your mind off of it.

has anyone actually given up on smoking and have become smoke free. i want to be like this but end up smoking again time after time. to help me quit i quit drinking alcohol and doing most things that influence me smoking. i also tried to go cold turkey and it works for a few days then i end up smoking again without even realizing it, such as when a friend gives me a fag.

help me please, ive been smoking for years and im only 22
I gave up smoking 2 years ago - it certainly wasn-t easy and even now I get the odd craving - I did it without using nicotine substitutes as they didn-t work for me at a previous attempt - there is no magic solution but for me it-s realising how bad it smells and what I must have smelled like for all the years I smoked - it absolutely stinks - good luck

Just like drinking, overeating, or playing too much golf, smoking is an addiction, and the first step to busting an addiction, is to admit that you have one. One thing I find that helps addictions is to get others involved; ask family not to smoke around you and tell others that you are quitting. Telling people will give you more motivation to do it, and sometimes they can help you through a difficult day. Medications can be expensive so work yourself off smoking little by little. When you get the urge, recognize it, then distract yourself with something else. I KNOW you can do it if you really want, just think about how happy you will be when you stop. And when you do, you have to promise yourself everyday that you wont smoke again, because once you do, your addiction is likely to come back. Good luck.
i have given up smoking now for a month and 4 days!!! yay for me! i never thought i would get anywhere near this far without a puff but i have! if i can you can!

my uncle who is over 60 a day smoker has given up and he is on his 4th month and my mum who smoked from the age of 13 - 38 hasnt had a fag in years! if we can do it anyone can!

i used patches for the first week and went on to the inhalator from there

my uncle used the patches only

mum used only the gum!

the aids do take the edge off of it so then you just need will power to not put that fag in your mouth and light it! stay clear of smokers and pubs for a while!!! dont drink coffee as that always makes me want one!

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, try this site, its great at keeping track of everything! its really helped me stay focused www.quitnet.com

Good luck!
thats great that you stopped taking the other drugs and stuff, well done, i am a smoker too and i find it quite tough n i never really get around to it...there is a website called:

www.uniteagainstdrugs.com

and in terms of addiction, this site actually goes through the effects that drugs cause and although it doesnt specify tobacco it gives a good ideas of how drugs work....
I just found will power was the only way through it, and rewarding yourself. Give yourself a treat for every two weeks that pass. I know it sounds harsh but will power is stronger than any drug.
Try Chantix I smoked for 30 years and I have now been smoke free for 15 months. I did have to change my patterns of when I smoked and I quit drinking for 6 months. I don-t even think about it any more.
It really help me the mindfulness meditation.
Have a look at the link and al the best

I just quit smoking two days ago, when will the nicotine cravings go away? -

I could not sleep very well last night, i think i might be suffering from withdrawals, I was hoping to quit without any nicotine binkies, gum, patches, lozenges etc.
varies ,
The physical nicotine cravings should subside after about three days; however, the psychological triggers can last for many years so it-s good to have a plan to deal with that. Example: If you always have a smoke with coffee, then give up coffee until you-re comfortable with not smoking. That-s why I used behavior modification techniques to help me quit 14 years ago. Even after all that time, sometimes when I-m around a lot of smoke, I still wake up with the uncomfortable, nervous feeling of having just quit but it doesn-t last very long. Congratulations and hang in there because it will get easier and is well worth the temporary suffering to achieve a better quality of life. PS. Deep breathing is also helpful.
The worst of it will stop within 3 weeks. But i had cravings up to 5 weeks after i stopped.

I didn-t use any of those things, i quit cold turkey. I found that if you make yourself be really busy for about 5 minutes, the craving dies off. I used jumping jax or a jump rope. That way i burned calories and helped my lungs with exercise. Plus, helped myself get through the craving. I think that-s why i didn-t gain weight when i stopped. Because i noticed i did eat more.

Chew regular gum. Eat carrot sticks. Dont use nicotine anything unless you have too. Chew really strong gum like Extra spearmint. Really does help.

You can do this!
I quit a little under 24 hours ago.
I went on piratebay.org and downloaded allen carrs easy way audio book. Try that! I have not had a s ingle craving and i was a 25 smoke a day girl!

I want to chew tobacco so i can quit smoking.other methods, except cold turkey , too expensive. how to chew? -

what do you do? i know you have to spit, but what s the process to do it properly and not choke or something? what to avoid
Try something else, not chewing. Mouth and tongue cancer are rampant in chewers. It-s not a very smart idea to go to chew when you want to quit smoking. Try Tootsie Pops instead. At least they won-t give you cancer....maybe diabetes, but not cancer.~
Buddy, chewing tobacco is just as bad as smoking. It causes everything in the mouth cancer- tongue, jaw, lip, you name it. It-s just as addicting, so in the end you-ll still be paying to feed your addiction.

If you can-t do it cold turkey just pony up the dough and do the patch.
when you see a cowboy chewing ask him . he will tell you.
You-re just trading one form of cancer for another. You-d be better off with the patch or something.

I have smoked for many years now. I-m already overweight, so I wanted to find out what was the best way to quit smoking for sure. I didn-t want to gain anymore weight by quitting smoking, and wanted to quit for sure now.

Does anyone have any good suggestions that could help me quit forever?

SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE....
Exercise !
... and a lot more things .

There you go for more info :

b vitamins help curb the craving. you can find them in a great tasting energy drink with only 8-16 calories, so you won-t be packing on the pounds. It is called XS Energy Drink and is available in 11 flavors, some caffeinated, some not.

Email me if you want more info. Good luck, and congrats on making such a healthy decision!
The patch worked for me. Get the name brand though, cause generic didn-t seem to help too well. Also drink a lot of juice!
Go to whyquit.com for more helpful tips. Good Luck!
Welcome to the club. I recently quit smoking like 3 months ago, up till now I am strong in my resolve. The reason being I am 40 and think its high time I quit smoking before getting into serious health trouble.

I am using a combination of hypnosis and natural remedy (Crave-RX) to quit. Hypnosis works at the subconscious level to eliminate the triggers that cause us to smoke and Crave-RX is good reduce nicotine craving and suppress withdrawal symptoms. I am not overweight so not worried about gaining weight.

The good thing about Crave-RX is it will also help to prevent the sugar cravings and compensatory overeating which often cause people to go back to cigarettes due to unwanted weight gain.

For detailed info on hypnosis and natural remedies go the following website
yep - death can cause the problem to go away forever.

STOP DOING IT - problem solved!!

Make a commitment not to do it and follow that commitment...check out rational recovery too..
Try replacing smoking with something elce. Frequently people replace it with eating, which helps contribute to the weight gain. If your already taking the step of quitting smoking to get healthier, why not go that extra step and take up walking/jogging. on your lunch break at work take a quick walk around the block when you would be having a cigarette.
My mother took up walking on her breaks at work instead of having a smoke break and she looks awsome.

I finally quit smoking 5 weeks ago. I find when I do any kind of physical activity my lungs burn...? -

Does anyone know if this is a normal process in quitting. I-ve tried googling it but can-t find anything on it. My lungs never burned like this when I was smoking. (I do have lung damage from pneumonia which I had about 4 years ago)
Mine hurt like that for about 6-8 months after I quit. Good for you though. Keep it up!!
It is normal. I would reduce the intensity of the workouts, but still keep it up.
Go see a doc. Seriously. Get a check up.
Well I can tell you it won-t be killing you to quit.

I quit almost 3 years ago you are still new at this, your lungs are still blackened. Give it time and you will get better.

I quit smoking yesterday and I am using the patch but I feel jittery? -

I-m wondering if I should go down to the next level, the 14 mg. I bought the 21 mg because it said to use that strength if you smoke a pack a day but I just feel so jittery and shaky!
Yes, it sounds like you-re getting too much nicotine. You have to be careful because if you use too strong a patch for your habit you can actually make your addiction worse rather than better. So I-d try the 14 mg patch right away.
hi cutetrio2002..

first of congratulations, on your decision to quit.. its a real big deal.. as far as the question goes, i don-t know the answer.. but im reasonably sure i know where to send you.. the folks at 1-800 quit now, know all about that stuff.. give them a ring..

also, a lot of times people in support groups will have some experience with situations such as this.. i know in the past, and at times still, i rely upon members of my group for answers, and guidance.. i am a memeber of Nicotine Anonymous, and attend meetings both locally, and on line.. on line meetings are as close as your computer, and you are welcome smoking or already quit..

How do I get my friend to quit smoking? -

One of my best friends is 19. I am 18 and I can-t say I-ve never smoked before, because I have with her. She has been smoking for about a year and she smokes about 3 cigarettes a day. I tell her to quit, and she tried it, but said she NEEDED one after -quitting- for 3 days. How do i get her to realize it is bad for her and that she needs to stop?
you can-t, she has to want to quit to be able to have a chance at succeeding. Telling her to quit, telling her about the chemicals in them, showing her pictures of cancerous lungs will not help. She is already addicted, it is too late for an easy quit. At least she is only smoking 3 cigarettes a day, it could be much worse (and probably will be in the future).

I am an ex-smoker who didn-t quit or should I say COULD NOT quit until I made my mind up to do it for me (doing it for someone else doesn-t work, she has to want to do it).
Well you have a couple choices either hound her to death about how bad they are. Show her just how many chemicals are in a cigarette. OR you could switch her over to the Electronic Cigarette. I used to smoke a pack a day of Marlboro lights. I now use the E-Smoke (Supermini Model)

Can find out more by visiting: http://esmoketalk.com/
NJOY has some pretty good deals: http://www.njoy.com
so does http://www.puresmoker.com

You will want to have her start with the NPRO or SuperMini/PeeWee as that looks the most like a real cigarete. Trust me she-ll love it. I think they have it in Pink now as well
I suggest that you do so telling them how much you care about them, and how important it is that they remain healthy for a long time. I would also hip them to the proven fact that anyone can quit smoking in about 40 minutes. My wife smoked, until I came across this article that detailed how/why anyone can quit smoking in less than an hour...forever.
I got the e-book for my wife, just as a goof. As my luck would have it, she took it seriously, now she-s cigarette free! She did it cold turkey, and she says that she has never had a craving since. I never smoked, so I don-t really know how difficult it is to quit, but what I do know is that my wife is now smoke free and I am soooooo happy!

Here-s the link:
http://www.squidoo.com/quit-smoking-now-…

I hope this helps
As brutal as it maybe. you will honestly have to risk her being mad at you. But if you look up the chemicals in cigarettes, theres like 2000, And show here pictures off lung cancers and mouth cancers.

Can quitting smoking really make you gain weight? -

I am a smoker of 10 years and i have recently decided to quit smoking but i am afraid of gaining weight. I have heard that smoking affects a persons apatite and makes them eat less and so when they quit they can eat regularly again but if this is true i do not believe i will have a prob because i am a pig even thought i smoke, so if you could tell me what it is that makes you gain weight when you quit i would be very thankful!
Your taste buds definitely come back to life after quitting smoking. That will not make you gain weight. Overeating will. Good luck.
I think the reason that most people gain weight is because it slows down their metabolism which makes them digest food slower. Another reason is because a lot of people turn to munchies to help them when they are wanting a cigarette. It would be normal to gain a few pounds in the beginning but I wouldn-t worry too much about it. You could always just watch what you eat a bit until your body gets used to not smoking just in case but it-s totally up to you. Good job for quitting too!
The best thing you can do is start exercising. This will help you stick with quitting and help keep your weight down. If you have a big oral fixation thing going on, make sure to find something to put in your mouth that doesn-t contain calories. Chewing gum may help.

Yes, the average quitter gains a few pounds. But you can control that through diet or exercise and the extra weight is in any case less unhealthy than smoking.
Yes, and you should follow a program that help you not become fatter after quit smoking, try my way: http://free-quit-smoking.info
you will gain 10 pounds then a little later lose it its your body-s reaction to quitting

I have been smoking for about 6 years.

I-ve tried using nicorette gum, gradually cutting back, and cold turkey, but nothing seems to work.

How did you quit smoking what worked for you?
Hi Robert..

congrats on your decision to quit.. as your finding out, its seldom easy..I smoked for over 40 years, and tried most of the methods available.. i tried the patches, pills, and various, and sundry concoctions, from health food stores.. in fact the last 5 years of my smoking, was simply one failed quit after another..

the good news of course, is that i did in fact find a method that worked for me, otherwise i wouldn-t be typing this reply.. i have been quit now for over 5 years because i quit trying to do it alone.. i joined a support group, and just didn-t quit quitting..

I am a member of Nicotine Anonymous and attend meetings both locally, and on line... on line meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend meetings before actually attempting a quit.. good luck, however you decide to proceed, there is simply no wrong way to quit..

I recommend cutting down gradually until your quit date. I did this. I cut down to half a pack. I did this for three months. I smoked by the puff, not by the cigarette. I took only the amount of nicotine that was necessary to satisfy my urge to smoke and put the rest of the cigarette out.

After doing this for three months I quit cold turkey.

Now I-m eating more candy to distract me but its been 8 months. I have urges but they don-t last more than a second or two. If they-re lasting more than that then you-re concentrating on the cigarette. Don-t do it. Concentrate on something else.
I quit a month ago after smoking 25 years and haven-t looked back. Truth is all smokers want to quit. What holds most people back is fear and brainwashing. We have all been told so many times how hard it is to quit...it-s a lie...it is easy to quit smoking. We quit every night for 8-10 hours while we sleep with no ill effects. Nicotine is addictive yes, but withdrawal from Nicotine feels no more uncomfortable then a little tug in your stomach (sorta like I-m hungry). We -think- we need cigarettes because Nicotine in our systems only lasts 5-10 minutes, so every 5 minutes or so we get this little pang (that last for about 10 seconds) that says -go have a smoke- but that is because nicotine is not very strong drug, and it-s effect does not last very long in the body. You need to stand up to this weak drug and say to yourself NO! I-m breaking the chain...F/U addiction, I-m bigger than this and will not smoke again. Don-t be angry or depressed or think you have given up anything....you haven-t. In fact you will be gaining so much by not smoking....money, health, freedom. Smile when you get those pangs and know that the nicotine monster inside you is dying every time you resist an urge to fall back into that 5 minute smoking addiction (it is a deadly trap). You are free as soon as you stop. Don-t be afraid, just stop and laugh about how silly you were and sorry you feel for those still trapped by this 5 minute fix...it ain-t worth it.
I quit cold turkey and as hard as it was and sometimes i still want one, but it was well worth it!! I write a ehow article on how I did it if you want to read it.

http://www.ehow.com/how_5041424_quit-smo…

Go for the Nicotine Patches. Those help you quit by supplying the right amount of the drug so that you slowly ween off of it. I hope this helps you out! Good luck with quitting, its hard but its possible...don-t give up.
You need to have very strong will power to quit smoking. Just stop it. It won-t be so easy but u have to try....
best o luck.... (-,)

I have been smoke free for 2 months now and i was just wondering what my body is up to? How long does it take for your lungs to clear, if i had been a moderate smoker for a steady 6 years?
Congrats on quitting smoking!!!
Your lungs are clearing up, your taste buds are rediscovering flavors in foods that were covered up when you smoked.
Your heart is getting stronger, blood vessels getting back into shape. How awesome is that? Pretty cool, I-d say.
Your hair skin and clothes don-t stink of tobacco anymore either, since you quit.
You have helped your body get stronger, and it is continuing to get stronger to keep you healthier
By not smoking, you are now helping your body prevent heart attacks, strokes, etc. For when you get older.
Congrats, Again!!!! Take care. I-m very proud of you for quitting smoking! Truly.
The first 48 to 72 hours after you stop, the last of the nicotein gets processed out of your body. This is also the hardest as your body is craving for a smoke to replace the nicotein.

After that, your taste buds come back, and your sense of smell sharpens a bit.

One thing that WILL happen is you will put on weight. Anywhere from 20 to 50 lbs. So watch what you eat.

The lungs take about 10 years to fully clear.
About a month after I quit, I got a really bad respiratory infection and cold. My cousin got the same thing. Apparently it happens in some people as a -clearing out- process. It can take several months for your lungs to -pink up- again, but congrats on quitting! The cravings stayed with me for about a year, but now the smell of a cigarette makes me sick!
They say that in order for your lungs to completely clear will take 10 years. Throughout that time your body will be readjusting to your new habit. Your blood will become more oxygenated, your circulatory system will improve, your taste buds will regrow and you will find that foods you may not have liked before you like now (I like tomatoes now, i never used too).
the only thing I know for sure is withdrawal

i just quit smoking 3 weeks ago. i used the nicodrem cq, 21 mgs , lots of will power, and www.quitnet.com. you CAN DO IT.
you just have to be sick and tired of being sick and tired..there is no magic bullet......I used the patch for about a week to take the edge off but it took about a month to lose craving......stopped in november of 06......I smoked for 25yrs.....its rough but I am pulling for you..........you can do it!!!
Sorry, but it sounds like you are sincerely addicted to the effects of nicotine in cigarettes.. The first thing you need to do is evaluate what triggers your desire to smoke (i.e. some stress factor at work, home,etc.). Then, consider visiting your doctor who may be able to prescribe some medicine to help you reduce your wheezing difficulty (i.e. nebulizer of some sort). Finally, you may want to join a smoker-s anonymous support group to meet others who are going through the same problem. They may suggest certain techniques to reduce your desire to smoke, as well as begin using the patch to cut down your cravings...stay strong and feel better!
I quit smoking cold turkey. I have to live as long as I can to take care of my disabled child so for me, I was faced with making a choice on how much I loved someone else enough to be there for them. I don-t know if I could have done it just for me.
You need a plan to help you deal with the inevitable anxiety that will strike you, frequently at first. It does get better over time. You need to have your eyes on a worthy goal to keep you focused when you are weak and faced with the anxiety. Preferrably, something positive you can focus on and how you-ll feel when you have that goal. Mine was being able to live to be as old as possible (and in good health) to be there for my loved one. The other is to be able to get life insurance in case I couldn-t be there anyway (cheaper if you-re a non-smoker).

I used to like to say, I can quit anytime I want to. I-ve quit hundreds of times! LOL. Seriously, if you do slip up, don-t quit on quitting, just think of it as a setback and try again.

The denial and anxiety is strong, it sets aside your logic so you can find a reason to smoke again. People do this with every kind of addiction from food to gambling. This is why you will need that positive image or goal to help redirect your mind when the addiction is speaking anxiety and denial to you.

It also helps to not hang around other smokers. Don-t do any of the same routines. If you go outside to smoke during your break, DON-T go outside anymore. If you go outside to smoke on your patio, don-t go out to the patio for awhile. Go for a short walk somewhere instead. Do something different. Don-t continue with the old patterns, replace them with new ones the same time you quit. The brain LOVES patterns and will take the neuro pathway of least resistance. My child takes meds to stop her from having seizures. The more seizures she has, the more the brain WANTS to fall into the pattern of having seizures. The meds not only prevent her from having a seizure, but is preventing the brain from reinforcing this -well traveled pathway- into becoming a more permanent superhighway.

This is a good example of how the brain works period, regardless if there is a disorder or not. It goes to the path of least resistance and the more we use it, the less we will use the other pathways and the harder it becomes to get off the road. Addictions included. This just illustrates how important it will be for you to change your habits in conjuction with simply not smoking anymore.

In effect, you will have to decide you are going to embrace a new lifestyle inasmuch as you tell yourself are going to quit smoking.

I hope this helps.

I quit smoking last week. How long before I quit coughing and get over the sore throat? -

Thanks to the coughing and throat thing I can-t even stand to be near smoke, so I don-t want another cigaret, EVER. Kind of amazing after 30 years.
First of all Congratulations!

I quit 2 years ago. It took about three weeks for my sinuses to stop rebelling. Felt terrible at first. After that time the nicotine was out of my system. Then came the hard task of overcoming my habits. Took a whole year to get past the cravings. I feel wonderful now!

Stick with it and you will never regret it!! Good luck to you! It does get better.
Hang on, you should see an improvement soon.

Good for you!

Meanwhile, try drinking hot soothing drinks to help your throat.
good for you.

i have failed many times.

however remember - nobody likes a quitter !! -

hahaha
I only smoked for just over two years and at the end of that period had been down to 2 or 3 a day for months. However, it took a further full six months to completely stop coughing. It just goes to show how damaged your lungs are by the evil plant. Congratulations on having stopped.
I never had the sore throat thing when i quit. It took me a few months though to start tasting things again. Its amazing how much taste you loose by smoking. It took me about 3 weeks to stop with the morning hack.
u will be coffing 4 quite a while yet im afraid, @ least 2 yrs. soz mate :(
smoking destroys tiny hairs inside the lungs called cilia. In a healthy lung these hairs clear debris from the lungs. The cough you have means that the cilia have started to regenerate and are doing their job again. I know the cough is annoying but think of it this way- your body is healing itself and getting rid of all the muck that-s accumulated in your lungs over the years. I can-t guess how long you will have the cough for, it could be a while if you-ve smoked for 30 years. Try steam inhalations, honey and lemon in warm water for the sore throat. Hope this helps, and well done for quitting!
u know i had quit once a few months ago for like 15 days...i didnt stop coughing the whole time, kept me up at night drinking cough syrup like it was going out of style, nothing helped...then i started again..

Does a person have to quit smoking? -

Ladies - Gentlemen of the jury, does a person have to quit smoking in order to accept Jesus?
I wound-nt think so.... If you smoke natural cig-s.
I-ve knew a lot of very religious people who smoked when I was a kid. We-d walk out of a Catholic Church on SUnday morning and dozens of people were lighting up before they even passed the doorway. Of course, this was during the same period of time that the original report on smoking and cancer came out in the early -60-s and most of the adults I knew either didn-t believe it or said -When it-s my time to go, I-ll go, regardless.- My Mom was one of those and died of lung cancer at the age of 68. A lot of religious people today don-t smoke or have stopped, largely due to health benefits.

Some religions might equate not smoking with salvation, also not drinking alcohol, even in moderation. It varies from church to church.
Seriously?

...If you devote your heart and soul to Jesus, you won-t be affected by the stress or hateful things that cause you to smoke originally. Honestly, if everything they say is true, you-ll want to quit because you-re only damaging your body (which -is a temple-).
No! We are all sinners. I smoke and while I know that it-s bad for you, I also know that God still has a place for me in heaven. Some people don-t smoke, but they drink, or eat too much, or become obsessed with sex, yada yada yada. We-re all sinners and that is ok because that is how God made us!
In order to science-s datas a person must to quit smoking. Its really very harmful. The slogans on the c. packages definitely right. Its a slow way to sucide.
yor answer is in this site
Smoking habits and faith in Jesus aren-t′related so the answer is no.

Is it normal to have shortness of breath after i quit smoking for more than 24 hours? -

How many years did you smoke for? How many cigarettes a day did you smoke? Regardless, If you were having shortness of breath before you quit it will not resolve in just 24 hours. Depending on how long and how much you smoked you may have life time symptoms. Only time will tell as you body recovers from the poisons and toxins that will be clearing out os your system. You should talk to your doctor about having your lungs tested to see just how much damage was done to them and then have them retested at one year and at five years to see how they-ve recovered. I can only pray that you stay off of the cigarettes as they are ruining your health.
ahhh ..yeahhh

How do i quit smoking!?!?!? -

I have been smoking cigarettes for about 3 years. I just can-t seem to quit. I hate smelling like smoke all the time. And my chest hurts sometimes. I can-t even go up a flight of stairs without feeling out of breath. I can-t stand it anymore. I-ve tried the gum and the patch, but they didn-t work. I still got headaches, and craved a cigarette SO badly. Sometimes i will quit cold turkey for about 2 days, then get stressed out, and give up and buy a pack. How dd you quit smoking???
I started taking Chantix Labor Day, and have gone about 2 months without a cigarette. It is much more effective than Wellbutrin. I find the anxiety levels none too overwhelming compared to other remedies, especially in that all-too-crucial first week. Not only that, but you even continue to smoke when you start Chantix. After a few days you start to realize the cigs aren-t giving you that relief anymore because Chantix works by binding to and clogging your nicotine receptors. It-s easier to quit when the cigs don-t give you that little high, because in reality they really don-t taste all that good and you-re only in it for the high in the first place.

Talk to your doctor as Chantix is prescription only (I think they call it Champix in Europe, if that-s where you are). It cost me about $125 for a 1 month supply.
theres only one way,,,, throw them away, and get thru the addiction if you can quit for a day you can quit, you just have to get thru the mental and yes there is a physical addiction too. just have to do it the best way my brother in law smoked for years the only thing to help him was to just do it you will need emotional help too good luck
Start some healthy habits before you quit and maybe change a few other habits. If you have a cigarette with some coffee, try drinking something else instead.
Try Nicorette gum. It-s got the flavor of Nicotine and will work as a
substitute for tobacco. I smoked for 4 years (1980-84) and tried to
quit -cold-turkey- style three times. No cigar. I then tried Nicorette
gum and had no desire to light up again after just two months.
Good luck!
Chew that nicorette gum, or cough drops...try chewing of straws, always have something in your mouth. And keep busy to take it off your mind. good luck
i think you have to check with your doctor and get x- ray with your lungs, since you said you have some problem with it. and might ask your doctor to give you some advices for quiting smoking.
just keep quiting cold turkey. if you feel you need to have a cig, then do it. everyone fails at first. but if you keep trying, sooner or later you will succeed. and if you think its hard to quit after 3 years of smoking, try to do it after 40 years.

What do you think is the best way to quit smoking? -

i-m trying to quit but i-m not doing very good! have anyone been able to stop this damn habit if so HOW??
First thing I did was pick a date in the future when I would quit, then in meantime I enjoyed smoking, didn-t feel guilty about it or anything, just enjoyed it. Then as the date approached I prepared myself for quitting. Then on the date I threw my cigarettes in the bin, wore a patch for a few weeks and I haven-t smoked since!

Good Luck!
If I can quit after 25 years, anyone can. And I do not miss it one bit. Its nasty and disgusting. Ok, here-s how I did it. First, set a date, say 2 weeks from now. During the next two weeks smoke as normal, keeping in mind the impending date. Clean out your car, wash ashtray, etc. Start throwing away all your lighters, matches, etc. In other words, prepare. Cut way back on coffee-drinking or any other habits associated with smoking. Start taking a walk around the block after dinner, or do anything to distract yourself after meals. You know what your -trigger- points are. By the time the day arrives you have no cigarettes in your home, car, purse, etc. Keep busy, the forst 3 days are key. Youcan do this. Go on-line and find a Quit Support group. I wish you much success. It-s been 3 years for me.
I feel your pain Laura, I really do. I-m a smoker of about 10 years and can-t quit. Non-smoking friends tell me that if I really wanted to that I could. Maybe so, but I tell them that they must have never smoked, because if they did, they would truly know how hard the habit is to kick for most people.
Well; i really hope this helps.

Ughh; i would hate to be stuck in smoking.

first off, think about this.

You put your lungs under pressure
Your heart is put under stress
Your blood pressure increases
Carbon monoxide floods into your system
The nicotine kicks in
The blood vessels in your skin constrict
You take off 2-20 minutes of your life each time you smoke a cigarette!

Try taking some medicines and pills or stuff that will help you get your addiction to cigarettes better.

Try smoking straws! lol, like your smoking a real cigar, but just a straw! (:

It might help.. Well i hope it helps.

Good LUCK!(:
Well I smoke for like 6 years and started taking the chantax pills, The worked wonders on me, haven-t smoked in 6 months, It blocks the neurotransmitters in your brain.. I-m a nurse, I strongly recommend it
cold turkey...3 days of hell but then its smooth sailin...keep a pack on hand and tell yourself that they are there but your not going to smoke them...that way as long as you know that they are there..your not so tempted.
Very easy give up one dependence for another, you should start drinking green tea four or five times daily and slowly give up the cigarettes .In a month you will be off them.
I started by unraveling the cigarettes and sauteing the tobacco.
Well, you can get a hobby and do things to get your mind off smoking!
will power
cold turkey.
fight through it.
will power
Suffer through the pain. In time the pain goes away and you will be free.
Dip the end of your cigarette in tuna juice then light it up
look at pictures of what smoking does to your body!
Try the nicotine patches. With the cinnoman...
what have you tried so far?
think about it and what it is doin to ur body and say I AM DONE

How do I quit smoking !? -

How do I quit smoking !? -

I-ve been smoking for 2 years and i-m 19, I know it-s not to late to quit, and I would really like to.
Let me just start by saying it is definitely not too late! Good for you for wanting to quit before your lungs are black!
I-m not going to lie, it really really sucks. I am a pretty moody person anyways, but when I quit I was HORRIBLE. The terrible mood gets better after a week or two however.
If you think you-re actually addicted to nicotine, patches or gum wouldn-t hurt. You-re old enough to buy them legally, but they-re a little on the expensive side.
Just keep yourself busy. Go for a walk. Carry a massive water bottle around and take a drink every time you want a cigarette. If you-re worried about weight gain switch to a vegetarian or vegan diet for a few weeks. If you miss having something in your hand, hold a pen. If you miss having something in your mouth keep a stick of gum in your mouth at all times.
I found it helped to come up with a list of reasons why you want to quit to keep yourself motivated. Just think -- your hair and clothes won-t smell like smoke! Your breath and teeth will improve! You will decrease your chances for a lot of diseases! You-ll save a TON of money!
Find your triggers. Mine were driving and drinking. I found that while driving if Icranked up the most obnoxious song on my iPod to a deafening level it drowned out the craving. I had to just completely avoid alcohol for a month, there was no way I could have drank without smoking in the beginning.
Just remember it is possible! If you slip up don-t give up, smoking one or two cigarettes does not qualify you as a smoker again! Good luck!
Well youre definitely not alone
