What are some great inexpensive ways to quit smoking aside from cold turkey? -

Ive only been smoking for two years, and I would like to quit... its very hard to stop this nasty habit, Anyone have any suggestions/methods on how to quite without quitting cold turkey, or using the patch? Its way to expensive for me...
But smoking has become my biggest addiction. Im tired of spending the money on cigarrettes and polluting my body...also what can I do to get my husband to stop smoking or atleast stop smoking around me once I quit because he is hard headed..because I know if he smokes it will be to easy to give in to temptation...
I would try to ween yourself off of them. That way you can gradually get less and less nicotine in your system and your cravings will subside. I started by only letting myself smoke after work or on weekends, then gradually I got down to 2 a day, one a day, every other day until I really didn-t feel the urge any more. The hardest part was if I had a drink, and yes I slipped a few times, but for me it never was the same after I quit. I did have the support of my husband though. Good luck to you, I have been 6.5 years without a ciggarette, and I started at 15 smoked for 6 years!
if your husband smokes inside your house make him go outside, chew gum, keep yourself busy its easier to quit in the winter make your self go outside and smoke and that way you wont want to. its very hard. im pregnate and still smoke ive been smoking for 6 years and ive quit 3 or 4 times.
pregnacy helps lol. the smell of it makes you sick for a while
Lots of stores now have cheap patches, even walmart, at least for the first week or two they-re really good. Just for a few months take every penny that you would have spent on cigarettes and buy frivolous stuff for yourself. Bubble bath and toenail polish and cappuccino coffees. Think of all the losers that you know that quit smoking, you re way better than them, right? Best of luck and I-ll be thinking good thoughts to you and wishing you worlds of success.
its come to my attention that you can talk to your local health department about getting FREE patches to quit. all it takes is a little patience to get through it. as for your hubby, ask him to join you in quiting smoking, for your health and his. you really have the right frame of mind to quit. i wish you and your husband all the best!
i tried everything to give up and i have smoked since i was 13 and I-m 40 now. the only thing that has worked for me is cold turkey, i tried patches, gum and hypnosis and none worked (or worked for very long)
i have now been smoke free for 2 years and went cold turkey this time the first couple of weeks was tough but if you can find a friend to quit with it helps
My partner smokes too, but i managed to quit. It did make it harder having him smoking around me but on the other hand u haven-t really quit until u can handle being around other smokers n not have one. U will still want one even after u-ve quit though. I quit going on 3 years ago now n my lungs feel great, same as the rest of me but i still think about having -just one- occassionally n i-ve been tempted to the point i-ve had 1 in my mouth ready to light but i stopped. Just the thought of how much better everything smells n tastes now. My perfumes actually smell right now, u know. When i first quit i used a herbal smoke the tobacconist showed me, there are a few types on the market. I gotta admit they tasted a lil funky n smelt like i was smoking tea leaves but they relieved the need for -hand to mouth- habit. Thats what i found the hardest to get over: once u-ve gotten past the physical cravings for the chemicals, its the habit thats the hardest to kick. U-ll find urself with alot of spare time that u used to smoke in and with ur partner still smoking n probably a few friends too, u tend to feel a lil left out. They are all outside smoking n talking as per usual n u either have to sit with em n withstand watching everyone else smoking or stay away. It sux at first but try making everyone smoke outside that way at least when the weather turns cold, its u who has the desirable spot, not shivering ur bits off outside in the cold! When its warm though, if its safe, when u reallly get itchy for a smoke n u think ur gonna give in, go for a run or a swim or some physical activity u enjoy. U-ll feel better afterwards, u-ll have amused ur brain until the craving went away n if u try using physical activity as ur -distracter- then u avoid the weight gain some people experience when they quit. Which by the way, is because most use food as their -distractor-. Good luck, i hope u succeed, but even if u give in n have to try to quit a few times, its not a failure! its another lesson closer to success!
suck on a jolly rancher whenever you feel like you need to smoke.and chew lots of gum.it worked for a guy on my football team.so yeah

i wish you the best of luck
I quit smoking by smoking menthol cig-s. The reason was because I was always at the bar drinking and when I drank I would smoke. By smoking only menthol I wouldn-t be able to bum cig-s from anyone else. On top of that no one would bum them from you b/c the majority of people think they are gross. It may take a week or so for you to get used to the menthol taste, but eventually it-s not bad and for whatever reason it was much easier for me to quit. I didn-t have as bad of cravings with them.
i used the skoal bandits for the nicotine and then gave them up every day add a bandit and smoke less cogs then as the bandits out number the cigs down spiral all of them to a stop in 30 days i went from 3 to 4 packs to zero in 1983 ,, when in the army i paid about 2.50 a carton for marlnoros and when home a said i wouildnt pay
I stopped smoking 2 years ago, after smoking 2-3 packs a day for 27 YEARS.
I went cold turkey, and I firmly believe it is the best way to go. No cost to you--a huge savings, in fact! Keep a lot of gum, hard candy, and celery - carrots around for the oral addiction, and get some little wire tavern puzzles, click-pens, or worry stones for the hand thing. Good luck to you---save the money - reward yourselves with a vacation!
Personally, I quite cold turkey but not everyone can do that. Try chewing gum or holding a pen in your hand. Keep yourself busy so that you-re not as likely to think about having a cigarette. Finding a hobby to take the place of your habit would be rewarding.

Once you-ve made the choice to not smoke, politely ask your husband to respect your decision not to smoke and have him smoke outside. He will probably smoke less if he has to smoke outside and you won-t be tempted by his 2nd hand smoke.

I have to give you a lot of credit for asking for suggestions and trying to go it alone when it comes to quitting. You can do it, don-t give up!! ;)
Cold Turkey is the only way to go....But you have to plan the date and stick to it........I gave myself two months planning.....that is 8 weeks right?, plenty of time.......b/4 my date of stopping, I worked my way up to it.............It worked like a charm...................I liked my cigarette with my coffee, after a meal, while talking on the phone, when I was with my friends out for an evening or just getting together, while reading the paper,,,,,, in other words, I smoked 1 1/2 pks a day...many years...........
The first day of my plan, I smoked my cig after I ate.......did not have another one for an hour............had a cup of coffee with it........next hour had one talking on the phone., when cig gone, i hung up....next one I had while i relaxed and read some paper,
I did this hourly cigarette thing for 3 full weeks......sometimes I forgot b/cause I was busy doing something, so I waited until the next hour( I did it on the hour) easier that way....... workde real good....Forgot a lot because i kept busy doing things...
On the 4th week, I would not have one for 3 hours...worked good also.......and sometimes when I wanted one badly and almost grabbed one, I would stop myselt and do 10 sit-ups as a punishment......after a few times this worked also......(my abs were looking better) 5th week I would go 4 hours apart...6th week 1 cigarette every 6 hours...By this point in time, I felt light headed when I would have one, so didn-t want one as much...Didn-t think about them hardly at all...I would also start coughing sometimes too. At the end of 8 weeks I was no longer smoking and so proud.....,,....I did crave one every other day for a long time, but the thought went away quickly once I folded clothes or something.
I tried years b/4 but this time I planned it out well and it worked for me...............Also, I bought those pretend cigarettes after I quit, and I would hold them like I was smoking after I ate, and when I wanted one and I even puffed on it at times(just don-t light)
It was one of the hardest/yet easier once I had a plan, things I have ever done....Now I have a plan for my weight......Good Luck to You.............Make a plan.........sorry this was so long, but it had to be...............
the patch is not too expensive, sometimes your health provider has free programs, my insurance did. there are also support groups in your area.
just try...if i could quit ******* heroin and crack cold turkey...i think you could quit cigaretts
I would suggest you go to a hospital and ask to see pictures of what lungs of smokers look. If you don’t want to go to a hospital, go to a dentist and ask them to show you pictures of a smoker’s teeth. A picture says a thousand words and if you have love for yourself, you wouldn’t want to have either one.
you can-t make some one else quit smoking however i found if i cut a straw to the size of a cig. and inhale just like a cig. it helped the cravings. good luck
there are none. just quit. people who i-ve thought were sucking smoke for life have done it. cold turkey. as for your husband explain your feelings and all about secondhand smoke. if he cares at all he will at least smoke outside. how about a wager with him for some nice reward? nothing to lose but a disgusting habit. I smoked for many years and couldn-t believe how bad smokers smelled until i quit. cold turkey and i have no will power at all.

My Friend Nikki can-t go more than two hours without smoking a ciggarette. I care for her health are there any tips or secrets I could tell her to help her quit the nasty habit?!
Leave her alone, she prob hates you
I smoked for 25 years and wasn-t sure I would ever quit. One day, after doctors found a spot on my lung that could have been cancer, I just turned it over to the Lord and I woke up and had no craving and haven-t touched a cigarette in 7 years. My health has been damaged, but it would be a lot worse if I hadn-t quit. I know it is VERY DIFFICULT to quit, but turn it over to God and he can take that desire away. It may not be tomorrow, or even next week, but in HIS time. And visit a hospital where someone is dying from lung cancer. Visit that person and see what can happen to you. It-s very bad.
Hey Jimmy,

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there with zero success.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
Eventually a friend told about a NLP method, you could do the same for your friend :).

It’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!

My husband is a heavy smoker. When I was pregnant with our daughter he promised he would quit...three years later, he still smokes two packs a day. The problem with smoking is that if the individual does not want to quit, they won-t. The hard part is being a good friend, without stepping over the line, yet maintaining your concern for her health. You might suggest all the money she could save, ( or spend on something else she really likes..shoes, clothing, etc...) if she quits. The new tax on those suckers is going to cause their price to sky-rocket. Money can be a pretty big motivator. One of the best things you can do is NOT nag. I nag my husband all the time, and he feels like I am attacking him personally, and that it is not the cigarettes I have a problem with but him as a person. Be supportive, and let her know it is out of love and friendship you care, and nothing else. There are all kinds of smoking cessation programs that are now free, and the website for TRUTH, the anti-smoking campaign, is awesome and has all kinds of stats, ( there is rat poison in cigarettes and arsenic!?) and cool ads. This might be a cool place to start and get some more information. Here is the link:

Remember, cigarettes are highly addictive, and quitting is never easy, but with your support, she is already one step ahead of the game.
they really dont pay attention and miss out on alot of stuff thats recently going on.U may want to tell her that smoking can eliminate ur brain cells.VERY IMPORTANT:get her away from lighters as much as possible
Simply quit! Just like me! In one second with no effort! Smoke may cause death! IN another one second! Do it now! Quit smoking!

I want to help my boyfriend quit smoking. He quit once, but started again. Is there any where that I can get free information (etc) mailed to him?
sure there is contact you local health clinic or hospital can provide information to help kick the habit.Be sure that it is what he wants don-t force him into it as you have more hope of beating the addiction by cutting down to zero that stopping straight away
p.s you could alway try nicotine patches but you will find you spend more money on them than a pack of ciggarettes
good luck

I really need help. I have been smoking for about 6 years and i decided i really need to quit! What is the best way to quit? How long does it take? Please Help!!!
here-s a cool way; fill a little jelly jar, (peanut butter jar is a stretch) halfway with water. then put some cigarrettes in it (however you want, cut up or whole) and carry the jar around with you. whenever you feel like smoking, sniff the jar. IT SMELLS GROSS!! then you realize how ugly smoking is for your body. keep doing that, never say oh well, i can skip the smelling this time, i get the point. only stop smelling when you dont find yourself wanting to smoke anymore! this worked for my uncle, i hope it works for you :)
Gradually cut down to nothing. So if your smoking a pack a day, go down to smoking half a pack. When you get used to that then decrease the amount again until you get it down to nothing.
use your will power and quit cold turkey or gradually smoke less and less everyday. Chew gum when you have the urge to grab a cigarette. Keep yourself busy so you dont think about it
stop buying cigeretts

Quit smoking 2yrs ago yesterday i took a hit of a joint will it show in drug test in 20 hours if i drink water -

2 years of not smoking 1 small hit just to taste it will it show up in a dot urine after drinking 2 gallons of water
Does it really matter if it shows?
Are you going for a job interview?
Is the test to see if you-re drug free to see if you-ll be accepted into an organization or group?

Now, the real answer is that it should not show up. Because you can get the same ammount from foods and vitamins.

Multi-vitamins - if you see the ingredients there are many crap in it and one is Nicotine. So what are you worried about smoking a single cigarette?

One way to expell the drugs is to do a lot of exercises to sweat the toxins out of the body.
probably. that much water will just shut down your kidneys and you will just start passing the water straight through into your urine causing you to urinate pretty much straight water. sounds good right? guess again. if not enough of your bodys minerals and other stuff thats commonly found in urine are present the sample will be labeled inconclusive and is usually sent to a lab for further testing. try giving them a taste test. it will have approximately the same result with possibly a little satisfaction on your part.
i think it might because i was dirty on a test.
i didnt smoke, i just got contact high.
so it might. so drink as much water as possible!
buy the tea from planet k..it works.
most of the time anyways...
No it should not show because my stepdad has to do that for his drug tests. He also drinks this really nasty juice stuff though.
yes i think it will, but maybe a little show wont affect them

I find it very difficult ? should I go to some rehabilitation centre for it ?

ketogenics or atkins w/e you wanna call it is a very effective way to lose weight but you need to do ALOT of research before you start, getting it right is fairy complicated and involved. theres tons of good info online so read up before you start. i really dont know anything about quitting smoking though.

How long after I quit smoking cigarettes do the withdraws go away. They dont. They are all lying to you.? -

How long after I quit smoking cigarettes do the withdraws go away. They dont. They are all lying to you.? -

It takes about a week before the body detoxes from nicotine - longer if your metabolism is slow or you have a poor immune system. The good news is with a healthy diet and things like vitamin C and antioxidants you can shave a day or two from that week. After that physical detox the rest is all psychological.

If you are serious about quitting smoking, then change your habits. Do something else after you eat, avoid coffee and alcohol at all if possible (at least until you manage to get the cravings under control), and avoid anything else that you know triggers a cigarette craving.

The bottom line is - and this is coming from someone who quit 9 years ago - that quitting smoking is a decision, not a process. It-s not about seeing how long you can go before you possibly cave - that-s the secret to failure right there. It-s about making up your mind, truly deciding that this is something you-re going to do and then doing it. That way, it-s not about doubting whether or not you can do this, but about what you need to do to get through the uncomfortable parts.
I stopped 2 weeks ago. Its getting much easier except I keep dreaming that I light up a cigg and I feel very guilty about it. I-m still coughing quite a bit though but I think that everyone is different. I-m also eating like crazy!!! My sister stopped 3 months ago and says that her body and cravings only recently got better now.

But well done!!! Lets keep it up!!
If you-re heavily addicted the cravings are bad for months, tolerable after four. It takes about a year and a half before you feel entirely normal. Chances are you-ll still have occasional cravings for the rest of your life, but they-re manageable. And yeah, they either lie or don-t know what they-re talking about.

I quit 8 days ago and its already getting easier. The longer you are away from them the easier it gets. Both you and i will go through a whole day without even thinking of them. Time is a great healer, its like any bad relationship. Its painful at first but you eventually move on.

Why would it be a lie? Cigarettes are not a normal thing. Its a poison. IIts not like food and dieting, because you need food

I am a smoker and smoke about 1 pack per day. I really want to quit but I just cant seem to stop. How did you quit please detail me in. Also im not for taking any meds or nic gums or patch I want to do it nautral Please help me out.
Like the other two posts. I quit cold turkey 5 years ago. I set a date, told all my friends and also asked them for support. Before I knew it, I had a week, then a month and now I am 5 years without a cigarette. It is hard. No doubt about it. But if you truly want to quit, you will. Find other things to occupy your time. Go for a walk, read a book, suck on hard candy. Once I made to it day 8, I was home free. Good luck to you!

I smoked many many manymany years ago when I was quite young. One week I caught a cold and coughed up mucus out of my lungs. I spat it out and examined it. It was full of flakes of black ash. I thought -NO.- but I stopped smoking and as the days went on the black ash diminished in content and then disappeared.
I feel you pain brother i quit smoking yesterday for the 3rd time in a month!

its dam hard but you-ve won half the battle by WANTING to quit.
I just quit cold turkey about 3 weeks ago, it-s been hard but I have strong will power. I hope you do too, because you-ll need it.
you should stop by taking one less every day and before you know it you-ll stop.
go cold turkey..gonna be painful but its the only way to really quit

I am ready to quit smoking. How do I convince my husband to do it with me? -

I have not smoked since yesterday. I am going crazy. My husband is trying to be considerate of me, but in reality he is not. He is going in the other room at home and hes is not smoking at our office (we work together) But I can still smell it and taste it on him. What can I do?
You just have to live with it. You can-t convince him to stop smoking. The only way someone can stop smoking is if they really want to.
If you have kids you should out a picture of the child on the box. So when he goes to get one he feels guilty. Or just talk about it and how nasty it is and what it does to your lungs,.
tell him he will die before you because his lungs will be all screwed up and tell him you want to die together.
Honey if your husband isn-t ready to quit smoking there isn-t anything you can do. Please save yourself. This is from a lady that has lost my mother, two brothers, two sister in laws and another one at Heaven-s door, and numerous other relatives from smoking.
Chantix has been very successful to help quit smoking. Make a doctors appointment for both of you and in a matter of weeks, you both with be disgusted with the taste of cigarettes. Every patient that I have talked to has been thrilled with the medication and calls it a miracle.
Steal his cigarettes and throw them away when he does not have $$ to afford to smoke,he will stop smoking.I
try to convince him that it don-t do you any good to quit smoking if you are inhaling the second hand smoke. he should be concerned about the rest of the family especially children inhaling it.
Clean up your own act and don-t worry about him.
First let me say -YOU GO GIRL- quiting smoking can be a tough challange, but it can be done, but more importantly you have to convince your husband to quit also, and the only way you can do that if you can continue to stay free of smoking, because this is about you, sometime when other see someone stop and stay stop they may do it , but if not you know you did the most best thing. once again keep it up and stay smoke free.
Well you can say to yourself anytime you feel like a smoke cor is that the way I used to smell. U know most non smokers are considerate enough to be pleased with being non and ex, smokers that they don!t pass any remarks about the stench coming from smokers and this doesn!t help the still smoking friend partner or passing ciggy held stranger. So all you can do is to hope that your hubby follows you by your example and willpower as being an ex, smoker it does take some strength. Now a whole day that-s good it will get easier by the minute play for time, wash your hair think about your lungs going pink again and most of all don!t wait until you have done to much damage, I have been off fags now for a good few years, I have Emphysema and it!s not very pleasant, not trying to frighten you but think how lucky you are if you don!t have, keep it up and good health, hubby will follow I!m sure.
Putting pressure on him will not work.If he doesn-t want to stop he isn-t going to do so. Admitting tobacco is a bad habit and I use it myself, people including little kids nagging at you about it certainly doesn-t help anything. I-m sorry there is no good answer to this question that you will like.
Good for you! Keep it up.
Can we really make anyone do anything they don-t want to?
It seems you-re ready but he may not be.
Just encourage him the best you can and set a good example.
When he-s ready he-ll do it.
tell him that you really want to do this and that you need his support. good luck and congrats on quitting!!!
I don-t know that you can convince him to quit if he is not ready. However I see that he is -going to the other room- One thing you should do is set some ground rules such as no smoking in the house, no smoking in the car.

I like someone-s idea of a -smoking robe- to help keep the smoke off his clothes and mouthwash and washing and stuff like that to keep him smelling nice, but depending on your guy, he may not be up for it.

Once you get him so he is not smoking in the home, you can try cleaning up the home. Get rid of ashtrays, clean glass and walls, clean your carpets and wash all your bedding.

Also, make sure you tell your husband how great he smells when he gets out of the shower and doesn-t have the smoke smell on him. This gives him added incentive to quit.
Your husband my be telling the truth. When you-ve been smoking for such an long time and you decided to quite the next day it leaves an smile for days and days at an time. So if I were you and I-m not just trust your husband before you blame him for something he did not do.
if he dont quit smoking say goodbye to a long nice realationship!
You can-t. He has to want to. Offer him an incentive like whatever money he now spends on cigarettes he gets to spend on whatever he wants. Tools, toys, stereos equip. or whatever. Worked for me. I was a 3 pack a day smoker 10 yrs. ago
Don-t have sex with him of ANY form until he agrees. That-ll do the trick.
It really needs to be up to him.He was smoking when you were.I guess just let him know how much better you feel now and how it stinks to you.I wouldnt pressure him ,I t might cause more problem than the smoking habit.Good luck with your quiting!!!!!!
Its hard to believe how everyone here is so negative about convincing your husband to engage in this ordeal with you. There are many things you can do together to help each other quit.

Nicotine Anonymous is a good start. Try to attend it with your husband, he might reject the idea at first, but there-s something about women and charming men into doing what they-re told....

Another couple activity could be a simple excercize in the morning... start out VERY simple, like walking the dog in the morning (or without the dog if you don-t have one). Remember, SIMPLE, walking at first, then a little at a time take it to brisk walking... then jogging...

Try to maintain things with a positive attitude, tell him things like - he-s STRONGER than the ciggarette,- and keep -weak,- -addicted,- and such terms out of your vocabulary. The thing is, positive statements are encouraging whereas negative statements tend to make people feel helpless (and we don-t want that).

Try to make things competitve as well, during your simple excercize or during your everyday interaction... tell him the you haven-t smoked a ciggarrette since yesterday and that you-re PROUD of it, and that you would be PROUD of him if he-d do the same. (Another example of positive statements, don-t tell him that you -wish- he would do the same. For example tell him that you KNOW that he has the same STRENGTH that you do.)

Last but not least, try to stick together. You need to understand that you need to support each other on this. If one of you backs out, the other is left alone in the dark. That-s a no-gooder.

I hope this helped, and I wish you the bes of luck.
People think it-s crazy but, I am a hypnotism success story and recommend it to anyone. I went with a friend, he didn-t make it. I did because I convinced myself I am stronger than nicotine and will power is amazing. You need to, not quite embarrass him but, borderline give him a guilt trip. Something along the lines of I can do it, why can-t you? This is something you need to do in front of company or out somewhere. TOUGH LOVE! good luck.
let your man get to know your intentions. sit him down and respectifully discuss your decision with him. tell him you wouldnt like to see him die earlier than normal. explain the repercussions to him, yourself and most importantly the kids.
children learn a lot by imitation. he wouldnt like to see his children smoke simply because of a decision he could make, if he tries to. reinforce him by praising him for an effort on his part. all while, make sure you still stand by your own decisions.
Queen, i wish you all the best in this life saving endeavour. it will save your family press hard.
I know from experience that he has to be ready to quit on his own.

Maybe when he sees how well you are doing, he will decide to give it a try.

I got a lot of support from them when I was quitting.
congratulations! the first day is really tough! i am in the exact same boat. i-m doing this cold turkey and my husband is just so weak. he wants to quit, but really gives up at the first pang of withdrawal. all you can do is don-t quit quitting!! i know it means alot to have someone there with you and being supportive. i miss that too. i-m just happy that my children see what i-m doing (or not doing) and my 3 yr old is even proud of momma! what i-m planning on, is getting my husband a prescription for chantix. i-ve heard some great things about it. i-m gonna just set it on his dresser and see how that goes. if you need a cheerleader, let me know!! i-m proud of you!!! day one, so hard!! it gets a little better each day. and going crazy,i can commiserate! i even felt like i was pretty stoned for a few days. oxygen lovely oxygen and it-s free! for me things really started picking up on day 5. not so crazy any more! good luck to you!! i-m pulling for you!! you are not alone! i promise!!!
I quit smoking about 2 months ago after I went to a rock and roll show that was smoke free. Then I realized that not only was this making my lungs hurt and causing to me to worry alot, but it wasn-t even cool anymore. I am still on the patch, and I couldn-t do it without it. I also started excercising every morning.

To make a change, there has to be some degree of pain that makes people WANT to change. Without that pain, the change won-t stick, it will just be cosmetic.

I commend your efforts! I wish you and your family the best.
tell him you-r ready to quit and you can-t do that if he can-t, of course you can-t do that knowing that he can-t also, you might get envy with him. hehe! tell him the benefits of quitting smoke. but if he really can-t stop it, and you-re really ready you can do it without him quitting (if you-re really ready). maybe he-ll realize about it if he sees you not smoking already (if you really quit). Good day! Goodluck!
You can-t convince him to do it with you. He has to do it when he-s ready and for himself not you-
You can tell him your concerns and make some rules- like he has to brush his teeth or chew gum or use mouthwash and wash his hands every time he smokes and you could have a special -smoking robe- or something that he puts over his clothes to go smoke so that his regular clothes are less affected.
Good LUCK with the quitting!!
Tell your husband that he can die and u don-t want to see him die and tell him that he-s killing his -your kids and he-s killin u
This is a matter that requires prayer.

I was able to quit back in October of 2005. Haven-t smoked since. I believe this is because someone said a prayer for me, because I could definitely see the hand of the Lord in it.

Ask friends, your preacher, your neighbors, the clerk at the grocery store to pray for him, and you.

The very sad truth of the matter is that you cannot stop smoking (if you-re an addict) unless and until you want to. The Lord can make him want to.

Unfortunately, so can cancer, emphysema, etc.
quiting smoking is hard enough for one person but even harder for two, except if you encourage each other it will undoubtedly be that little easier. There is no guaranteed way to quit just keep persevering good luck.
if you really want to quit smoking its so easy, just tell yourself that your going to stop smoking then thats it, can you just imagine that smoking can cause cancer or any part of your body will be distroyed, before going to sleep ask yourself this question, why i want to quit.........??????? why? hehehehe no need to tell you the answer you know it already face IT!... talk to your buddy heartily that you two will stop smoking because its bad for your health..before its to late.. the best cure is to stop smoking!

What is a good way thats free to quit smoking cigarettes? -

Yesa.
I liked taking plain round toothpicks and flavoring them(such as liquid smoke-jerky, peppermint, spearmint,etc..lot-s of different kinds)remember to use them exactly like you use cigarettes:like with coffee/after dinner for the same amount of time you would smoke, think replacement and even if you get hooked on toothpicks the worse thing that happens is -splinters- lol good luck!
simple: quit cold turkey; don-t buy smoking cessation products; keep yourself occupied
The Love and Grace of God are all free. I used this program as did many others.
Stop buying them.

If you have an oral fixation, eat a sugar-free candy.

I quit smoking and diet coke over a wk ago, usually have good skin but have developed acne this wk, how come? -

I-m 29 and haven-t had skin as spotty as this for about 10 years, usually my skin is greasy but smooth with only the odd spot, is this new outbreak due to stopping smoking and diet coke? how long is it likely to last? I-ve been drinking lots of water but i am still very spotty, help!
its called stress your body just stopped cold turkey whether you felt it or not you were under HUGE stress and it caused you to break out
My guess (and it is just a guess) is that you are stressed from withdrawal from nicotine and caffeine. Get some nicotine gum to help ease the symptoms from the nicotine withdrawal, and wean your self from Caffeine, no cold turkey. You will have a headache for about 2 weeks from the caffeine withdrawal. But is does go away eventually. I used the nicotine patch and quit smoking almost 3 years ago after being a smoker for 28 years. I got off caffeine about 10 years ago because I was having trouble sleeping at night.
stress. you have thrown yourself into disaray to fast. But hang in there and don-t give up.....
You may be inadvertantly touching your face more because you are not holding the cigarette anymore and also like what the other said, stress is incredibly harsh on your body. Good for you quitting smoking. Keep it up.

How do I quit smoking pot? -

I used to not smoke often and now that I am back in the state I used to live in and living with my best friends I am a huge smoker. I find myself doing it all day, I want to smoke when I-m not high, and I don-t get that high off of what used to get me ripped. How do I not smoke when I live with a stoner? I-m not moving or anything like that but I dont want to smoke pot.
Oh My God...just be a big boy and don-t do it..take a stand, quit being such a schmuck. No one can make you smoke it unless you want to
just tell your roommate that your cutting back because you thinks its too out of hand. if he has a problem with it then maybe your not best friends.
you can cut back if you just tell yerself -im only smoking someone else-s stuff-

sure cuts back to the amount that it-s nice again (just go buy munchies to pitch in /w buddies).

proper management. wait till after 4 or so each day.

also, you say it like it-s a bad thing to be stoned all day ;) (perhaps yer sociatal views have brainwashed what YOU want so you think it-s bad b/ others say so, PLENTY of people rip all day and lead functional lives, the -squares- might give you **** but that indicates you prob dont wanna hang /w them if that-s yer lifestyle choice).

can always just quit it if thats yer thing. i couldn-t live /w friends b/c of the -party scene- they bring. beer cans and **** all over.

Has anyone tried laser treatment to quit smoking if so how much did it cost and how well does it work? -

I quit smoking 9 years ago with laser therapy. You DO need to go in there with the attitude that you just want the laser to help you but have decided to quit. Just use it as a tool. I paid $150 back then, sat in an easy chair with a pair of goggles on and she lasered all of my fingers, took my watch off and lasered my wrist and also my nose and forehead. You don-t feel anything and they talk to you about the benefits of quitting the whole time. When I left, the first thing I did was reach for my cigarettes...only to discover there was no way I could put one near my mouth! I had smoked for around 25 years! For some reason, after the laser, the thought of putting that cigarette to my mouth was almost obscene..I don-t know why that is. My family said that I was very easy to deal with, I wasn-t sure if I was being a bear or not! For the next week I felt kind of -stoned- all the time and really didn-t miss it that much. They told me that every time I had a craving, I should just massage my earlobe (she lasered that too) and the craving will go away. It worked! They also told me to make sure I got tons of vitamin C and B complex.
A reputable place offers you a second treatment for around $20 if you should fall off the wagon and some even offer a 3rd!
I wish you the very best of luck with this...it worked for both my Father and I...not my Mother though, she died of cancer 2 years ago.
Exactly what do they laser? Your fingers so they-re burned and you can-t hold a cig anymore?
I-m not positive on the exact details on this, but a guy that my hubby works with gave laser treatment a try. I think my hubby said it cost him $150. It is supposed to help with the intial withdrawl symtoms. It did help with that. But it doesn-t take away the desire to smoke. So if you don-t really really want to quit smoking and you just can-t then it-s a waste of money. The guy I-m talking about works with a bunch of people who smoked so the temptation was there all the time. He did alright at first but ended up smoking again. He just couldn-t break the -habit- part of it.
Never heard of it...interesting though
I haven-t tried the laser treatment, anxious to see answers to this question, but the hypnosis is crap.

Any tips on how to successfully quit smoking weed?? -

Any tips on how to successfully quit smoking weed?? -

Been smoking almost every day for about a year and a half, wanna quit but think i-m pychologically hooked. Help!!
It can get you that way. Unlike cigarettes, weed doesn-t have the same addiction properties, so cutting down is a valid way.

I succeeded by promising myself a big fat one on Friday nights.
That way, I broke the need for daily usage.
Eventually the need for the -Friday night one- went away
Why do you wanna quit?
you just stop. There is no physical addiction with marijuana, the addiction is purely psychological. You just have to develop the willpower to stop. Seek addiction counseling if you absolutely cannot do it on your own.
yeah just quit my husband did it for years and thats what he did so whats the problem
I used to smoke everyday too. I had to stay away from everyone that smoked for a while. It didn-t take long to get over the feeling that I needed to smoke, and now that I-m over it, I feel much better and have no problem being around it. It-s all in your head; if you-re truly ready, it should be fairly easy.
Start drinking.

Make new friends who don-t smoke.

Get a hobby.
throw away your pipe start doing yoga...it feels just as good!
sorry if u are psycologically hooked then thats a problem.
I smoked for 7 years straight, pounds a week, mad blunts a day and i quit cold turkey when i got pregnant.
You need to find something to care about more then weed like a girlfriend or boyfriend or child or your family. there you go.
the decision to stop or start smoking weed is a lifechanging one. the properties of cannabis sativa are legendary and mysterious. there is the giggly, upbeat happy high, there is the stoney brain-numbing high, and there is the sophisticated, thoughtful high. there is no feeling quite like opening a new sack and finding perfect little crystally trees, slightly reeking of fruity pines.
many people report that marijuana slightly changes their personalities, and you have to figure out if your stoner personality is as likeable/productive/intelligent as your sober personality. then you decide if quitting is worth it.
the unfortunate thing about pot is that unlike alcohol, it is hard to smoke in moderation, and not every day, five times a day.
either you get high or you don-t.
decide what you want to be and resolve yourself.
Stop smoking it. It doesn-t control you.
It-s time to grow up and be an adult. Take control of your life and start realizing that pot is an excuse for people to keep from growing up. You want to smoke pot so you don-t feel the responsibilities and obligations of your life, or at least don-t want to admit them to yourself. Take responsibility for what you do, who you are with, how you spend your time and how you live your life. Pot, alcohol, cigarettes ... they-re all crutches for those who are weak in constitution. Have the inner strength to be above poisoning yourself. Have the inner strength to strive for a better kind of life for yourself. Yeah, success comes at the price of hard work and sacrifice, but the rewards of a full life are far greater than that of an afternoon spent smoking and/or drinking.

Quit looking for excuses not to quit and either choose to be a child or an adult. You don-t need my help to stop a behavior that is not addictive. Psychological addiction is a myth pot-heads tell each other to validate the continuation of a behavior that is knowingly stupid. Caffeinated beverages like Coca-Cola and coffee are more physically and -psychologically- addicting than pot. Don-t put the path of your life in the hands of substances and myths. Quit lying to yourself and grow up.
Bolderdash, how about facing your problems.
Nancy Reagan had the answer in three words, -Just Say No-. Didn-t work then, won-t work now. I think a group situation like AA would be best.
You can quit. I stopped 30 years ago. Don-t go cold turkey cuz you will have side effects. Taper off over about two weeks. If you smoke six joints a day now, taper down to three after the first week, and then by the end of the second week taper down to zero. Drink a lot of fluid. Quit when you will have a weekend to relax just after the zero point. Get rest. Watch Television. If you have psychological side effects that are bothersome seek counseling. You may not have to worry you have only smoked a short time really. Good luck you will be a much healthier person after you stop.
I was going to answer this question, but bonsai above me is 100% correct. You just quit. If you can-t do it, it isn-t physical...just a weak psyche. Join NA.
you have to realize what is priority in your life and if it is really worth it..
you think you are hooked but you are not.
Just have to quit cold turkey, the psychological effects will be alittle hectic (irritability, nervousness) but it passes quicker than the effects of cigarettes and other drugs. Or do what A.A.-s and N.A.-s do..One day at a time (sometimes minutes and hours at a time).
Usually a short trip to the pokey works pretty well.
Give it up to God.

If you can-t, He can.

I smoked every day for 15 years, the best and strongest. Quit immediately with the help of Jesus Christ. It works. Clean for 20 years.
Most likely you ARE psychologically addicted, which is just as bad as physical addiction in the fact that you get the cravings, just don-t go through the physical withdrawl symptoms like a person addicted to opiates. My best suggestion to you is to take a good look at prioritizing your lifestyle. Make a list of your goals with quitting weed as number one. Then, list the reasons why.
I also strongly suggest you contact a support group like Narcotics Annonymous where you will meet others that are living clean and sober lives and dealing with life on life-s terms without having to use a chemical or drug to cope. It is not a matter of willpower. Addiction to anything is a disease. Treat it as such.
Call your local AA or NA central office or hotline and they will be able to hook you up with the hotline and give you a list of meetings held in your immediate area. Be sure that you go to the meetings until you look forward to them. Do not judge, NA members come from all over the world and different walks of life, so you will find one to fit your needs. Get yourself a -sponser-
who will help you to cope with your desire to quit and how to deal with the cravings.

Good Luck and Be Well.
Stop buying it. Stop hanging with people who smoke it. You have to get away from the whole scene, and stay away from it. It isn-t that difficult, but you have to really want to stop.
try Hypnosis!!!!
How about you stop hanging out with the people you smoke with or try participating in an activity that is not smoking weed.
Remove yourself from alll of the surroundings that you have as a -Smoker-....none of the same friends you associate with smoking, nothing...you have to get away from it. Because yif you keep yourself in the same area that you were in you will never quit. Pot is not addictive, people just like the feeling that they get from it, you cannot get -hooked- on it. I used to smoke...it is easy to quit you just have to remove yourself.

How do I quit smoking? Without the aid of over the counter smoking cessations? -

EASYWAY – ALLEN CARR

It is a method by which instead of dealing with the chemical addiction – although nicotine is the easiest to be addicted to it is not that strong in that withdrawal is really not a big problem - it is the psychological side that is dealt with. It essentially de-programs your attitude towards smoking.

The method does not use gimmicks like nicotine replacement, it does not require any will power what-so-ever, it does not result in weight gain, no shock methods, you can carry on smoking through the course, and once you are done you are a none-smoker with no feelings of depression, no withdrawal or feeling deprived – just a happy ex-smoker. It also addresses many of the social issues, such as latest anti-smoking attitudes within society, that I found very helpful and I wish more non-smokers would read this book to better understand the problem of smoking, we-d have a lot less miserable ex-smokers and a lot less smokers if more people read these books or attended the clinics.

Easyway books have been international best sellers for over 20 years now, the clinics cost £200 on average for not just one session but any additional sessions you may like, they have a full money back guarantee – the clinics have a 90% SUCCESS RATE!

The books can be bought from Amazon for as little as £0.14 used/new, if you look through his books there are quite a few variations, the books are essentially the same as what you-d get taught during the sessions via the clinics, they are just a different way of getting the information to you.

QUITTING SMOKING DOES NOT NEED TO BE DIFFICULT!!

The Allen Carr organisation is now considered to be the leading authority on stopping smoking and clinics based on the method are established across the globe. The Allen Carr organisation helps approximately 3/4 million smokers a year to discover what Allen Carr discovered in 1983, an easy way to get free! In the last 20 years we estimate that Allen Carr’s Easyway to Stop Smoking has cured more than 10 million smokers worldwide.
Stop putting cigarettes in your mouth.
Just tell yourself you are going to quit. Set a date and time. Then go for it. Sheer will power!
if you can find and eliminate the stress in your life or find something that really rewards you and do every time you need a smoke but watch it with the weight
just do it cold turkey, and evertime you wanna suck on a stick, pop a lollipop in your mouth
Just throw them away. It takes 10 days to get the nicotine out of you system. It takes a life time to get over the mental addiction.
read easy way by alan carr
Its been said but i will say it again - ALLEN CARR!

Best thing in the world, no will power and you can carry on smoking until you want to stop - the further you go through the book the less you want to smoke, until you are totally stop smoking all together :o)

I will also say anti-smokers should go hang themselves, to put it nicely, if you don-t like smokers then why not help them to not be smokers rather than make out that they are stupid or deserve the way they are treat or the effects of smoking - ******* morons.
The last cigarette I smoked was right before I went into the hospital for preop tests for throat cancer. 10 days of intensive care and no vocal cords ended my addiction.
im sorry but i just love watching smokers suffer,
they sell out when they start in order to be one of the in-crowd - and then they suffer for having tried to look cool.

such a lame thing to do - force yourself to inhale smoke that chokes you and that you hate, just to belong.

a punishment for devious social climbing wanna-be-s.

its perfect.

ah karma.
Go with the first answer. Easyway by Allen Carr is amazing. If that doesn-t work, nothing will.
Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !! Allen Carr !!

It-s amazing how the government would rather back gimmicky nicotine replacement methods over Easyway, also amazing how many people pooh-pooh the idea without even trying it, social brainwashing along the lines of -If you smoke you-ll die, if you quit you-ll be miserable- is what you have to beat, not the nicotine!
just take the plunge and do it, thats how i did it, no aids, and dont avoid the difficult situations.

just get stuck into your life as you would do now, minus the cigs.

willpower also helps.................
I was a smoker for many years, 40 a day. Tried all the methods available and found only one thing which really worked. Will-power. If you truely want to stop. You will. With out aid. But you truely have to want to, not for anyone but yourself.
if you have 40 a day, cut down to 39 the next day, 38 the next, 37 the next, etc etc
There-s a 10-step program that I used to teach for stopping smoking. Here are some of the steps:
1. Brush your teeth after eating (every meal). Your body has been conditioned to want a cigarette after eating.
2. Drink Grapefruit juice in the morning. I know this sounds wierd but it actually works to change the taste in your mouth.
3. Use cinnamon-flavored mouthwash in the morning and evening. Again, this is important to change the flavor in your mouth. You might also try cinnamon gum.
4. Tell your friends that smoke that you are trying to quit and that you need their help. They shouldn-t smoke around you.
5. Put up signs around the house to remind yourself of your goal.
6. Get rid of all smoking paraphanalia around the house like ashtrays, or leftover cigarettes.
7. Use deep breathing exercises to get through difficult times. Don-t do deep breathing while driving or you could pass out.
8. Do the steps everday for 2 weeks

That-s all I can remember but I saw it work over and over. If you do the steps it will definitely work. Good luck!
RX I-m with you man.......the only way is to get a VERY VERY interesting hobby.

otherwise you could try the patches that chemist sell....i stopped for three months with their help.....but.....i-m back on the minging tobacco sticks......whatever happens mucker best of luck..
chop you fingers off and fill you-re mouth full of putty,
or just sheer will power.
always option b
omg i wish i knew if you find out post it on here ill be watching
My husband smoked for well over 35 years man and boy and at the age of 53 he took himself off to a hypnotherapist and after just one session he never has touched another cigarette and that was well over 10 years ago.

Though he oftened fancied one when he went for a drink he never did succumb. Even the smell from peoples cloths puts him off. And now he often remarks why did he never noticed the horrible smell on his own cloths.

I did not make him give it up it is something he decided himself.

Give it a try it may just work for you.

Good luck!
Why... i know many people that have given up .... most have very bad breathing problems... my Mother-in-law / Father-in-law both gave up 2 years ago... there both dead ..!

I gave up for 5 years , and was so ill , my GP told me to start again ..! But to Cut down the amount i smoke.

Now i smoke 20 a day ( Down from 40+ ) and fell great....
I quit with the prescription Wellbutrin SR. I drank beer too and now I can-t stand the taste of it. It worked double for me. Good Luck.
Try Will power or self help books.
15 years ago my grandad quit after my kid brother made a comment and he was a 45 a day man it took him a while but her saved up all his ciggy cash and has taken us to Egypt 3 christmases on the trot no lie

Good Luck
Gradually cut down and find something to substitute when you-re craving a fag like sweets or something. You won-t be able to stop immediately but slowly and surely if you have you mind and heart set to it you-ll be fine. Wish you all the best.
lol @ First Answer. I just bought the book yesterday. I-ll let ya know how it goes.

Allen Carr - The Easy Way To Stop Smoking
$14.99 Barnes and Noble
ok just don-t buy them and when
you want one just think of something eles
I started working out more, and found more productive things to do so I did not have time to smoke
I-ve been hanging on to this question for when I decide to quit. I guess I-ll hold on to yours as well.
The only medicine that really works is between your ears. JUST DO IT. That-s what i did.
I gave up three years ago. I did not use any chewing gum or patches. Just willed myself that I could do it. Too be honest I got to the stage where I was sick of smoking and decided to give up. I had good days and bad days - I think you have to be 100% sure that you want to give up otherwise it does not work. I brought myself and car and learnt to drive with the money. Having a little treat each week kept me motivated. It is really hard but if you are motivated enough you will carry on. I must say it is the best thing I have ever done. I visited the pub early on when I gave up because this is were I used to smoke about 50!!

If you are sure its what you want to do then you will succeed!! By the way I used to smoke 40 and day in the week and up to 60 at the weekend and I was only 31 then!!

How To Quit Smoking? Best Ways To Quit Smoking? -

What are your thoughts on how to quit smoking?

Really what is the best ways to quit smoking?

Is it all in your head? Do you recommend the patch? The gum? Just stopping cold turkey?

Or are there any programs out there that can really help someone to quit smoking permanently?

I don-t believe in the hypnosis method - but I am open to other suggestions.

it really depends on your personality, and what influences you the most

I am a very strong person..so when I said -stop-..I just stopped and I made SUCH A DEEP decision that I never looked back..my friends couldn-t believe it..but I understand the human mind and how it works

I REALLY REALLY recommend reading -unlimited power- by Anthony Robbins and listening to his Audio because he tells you HOW you can do anything basically

in the end...wasting money on the patch and gum and other b.s are just fake ways to get you addicted to other things

it-s not -quitting- smoking..it-s STOPPING

...in the end you need to make a DECISION..

either a life scare that will motivate you, or you just wanting to be BETTER..helping your body..it just doesn-t make logical sense to smoke..

Your DESIRE to stop has to be larger than ANY EXCUSE

seriously...how determined are you?...

EVERY habit was ONCE a choice...

if you want different results...make a different choice..

seriously....do it...but do it for the right reasons...and do it with passion....

listen to Anthony Robbins
Same way people could lose weight, stop putting the cigarettes to yuor mouth! It IS that easy. I smoked for 6 years, and quit. Cold Turkey. No one is forcing you to smoke. Yes, it IS an addiction, but they can be broken. If obese people would have a salad once in a while (God forbid) they would lose weight too!
best way is to not start.
My aunt used the gum method. She-s off and going strong! =]

Good luck!! =]
Guide to Quitting Smoking

What do I need to know about quitting?

The US Surgeon General has said, -Smoking cessation [stopping smoking] represents the single most important step that smokers can take to enhance the length and quality of their lives.-

Quitting smoking is not easy, but you can do it. To have the best chance of success in quitting, you need to know what you’re up against, what your options are, and where to go for help. You-ll find this information here.

Why is it so hard to quit smoking?

Mark Twain said, -Quitting smoking is easy. I-ve done it a thousand times.- Maybe you-ve tried to quit, too. Why is quitting and staying quit hard for so many people? The answer is nicotine.

Nicotine

Nicotine is a drug found naturally in tobacco. It is highly addictive -- as addictive as heroin or cocaine. Over time, a person becomes physically and emotionally addicted to (dependent on) nicotine. Studies have shown that smokers must deal with both the physical and psychological (mental) dependence to quit and stay quit.

How nicotine gets in, where it goes, and how long it stays

When you inhale smoke, nicotine is carried deep into your lungs. There it is absorbed quickly into the bloodstream and carried throughout your body. Nicotine affects many parts of the body, including your heart and blood vessels, your hormones, your metabolism, and your brain. Nicotine can be found in breast milk and even in mucus from the cervix of a female smoker. During pregnancy, nicotine freely crosses the placenta and has been found in amniotic fluid and the umbilical cord blood of newborn infants.

Several different factors can affect how long it takes the body to remove nicotine and its by-products. In most cases, regular smokers will still have nicotine or its by-products, such as cotinine, in their bodies for about 3 to 4 days after stopping.

How nicotine hooks smokers

Nicotine produces pleasant feelings that make the smoker want to smoke more. It also acts as a kind of depressant by interfering with the flow of information between nerve cells. As the nervous system adapts to nicotine, smokers tend to increase the number of cigarettes they smoke. This, in turn, increases the amount of nicotine in the smoker-s blood. After a while, the smoker develops a tolerance to the drug. Tolerance means that it takes more nicotine to get the same effect that the smoker used to get from smaller amounts. This leads to an increase in smoking over time. The smoker reaches a certain nicotine level and then keeps smoking to maintain this level of nicotine. In fact, nicotine inhaled in cigarette smoke reaches the brain faster than drugs that enter the body intravenously (IV).

Nicotine withdrawal symptoms can lead quitters back to smoking

When smokers try to cut back or quit, the lack of nicotine leads to withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal is both physical and mental. Physically, the body reacts to the absence of nicotine. Mentally, the smoker is faced with giving up a habit, which calls for a major change in behavior. The physical and mental both must be addressed for the quitting process to work.

I am very well read, and have researched MANY ways one can quit smoking. WHAT REALLY HELPED YOU? I-m looking for innovative ideas! (Please don-t respond with: -ZYBAN- or -GET THE PATCH-.) Been there, done that.
The reality is that you need to approach it from a stopping a habit perspective rather than a nicotine withdrawal perspective.
Popular culture and the drug companies have taken a minor annoyance like nicotine withdrawal and made it out be this huge horrifying experience- it-s not. Granted for the couple of days it-s a pain in the *** but that-s about it.
Glad I could help

Just quit! that is what I did 33 years ago when a pack of Marobaro-s cost $0.45 per pack.
I tell you what worked for me was to just stop.Cold turkey. No patches, no gums, just no cigarettes. After the first few days you fiend for a smoke but you just can-t give in. If you can stick with it for 21 days then you have created a habit. Of non-smoking, and by then you should be well on the road to wellness. I smoked from 14 to 24 then quit a pack a day habit. I haven-t smoked for 10 years. Sometimes I still think about it, but not enough to start up again. It-s to expensive on the wallet and mostly on your health. So that-s my two cents worth. Hope you are sucessful.
i have tried everything also, and nothing works, one of my friends broke down and paid alot of money to get hypnytised (sry i cant spell), and it worked, i was surpirised. she started smoking again about a year and half later, but she it made her just not want to smoke. I have yet to try it. good luck

Is it normal to develop a cough 2 months after quitting smoking? -

Granted I did not cough at all up until now. When I first quit, I did wonder how my body was getting rid of stuff w/out coughing. Now 2 months later, I am coughing up some stuff from my lungs. Is it normal to develop a cough 2 months after quitting smoking? Why so late?
It takes a while for your lungs- cilia to rejuvenate once you quit smoking. Cilia are like little -brooms- that move crap out of your lungs. It is not unusual to cough as part of the process of bringing that stuff out. When you smoke these cilia are destroyed and the cough reflex suppressed.

Look at the cough as a good thing. It means your lungs are cleaning themselves up. But if the cough doesn-t go away after awhile, then check with your doctor...just to be on the safe side.
what stuff... when i quit i was spitting brown saliva every morning which i thought it was blood .. but i heard its the bad stuff you inhailed for so long.. but always see a doc to make sure..on the safe side...as for me it stopped after 4-5 month..
i didnt cough thou....
Yes , the damage has been done, stopping smoking does not reverse years of polluting your lungs.
Yes, it-s perfectly normal. Your body is busy cleaning out the crud from your lungs. If you-re prone to drool while asleep at night, you may even notice a brownish stain on your pillow in the mornings. Same gunk getting purged from your lungs.
It took me about 2 moths to start coughing and another 2 months to stop.
Yes, it-s normal. It is your lungs cleaning up all the gunk. If you-re worried you should see your Doctor.
It-s not late at all! Smokers put alot of things in their lungs. Remember that your lungs need time. 2 months to them is like 1 week at a new house. They just need time to adjust! To stop your cough, try to keep your house smelling like something nice, like cake! Try not to eat a lot of heavy things. For at least a month, try a no-meat eat. Fruit is tasty and good for you. It also heals things faster than other things.
after quitting smoking I think it is okay for you to have some couhging after about 2 months but I ain-t sure. if it bothers u so much go see ur doctor about it
yes,Your body is getting rid of all the mucus it does take time. You could cough for months.Congratulations for quitting tough to do.You will eventually stop coughing.
Its not normal to have cough for 2 months, smoking or not smoking.
I would recommend you should get a thorough checkup by a doctor. Although there may be only a minor cause behind it but depending on how long you have been smoking, the cause may be very serious. Earlier you get checked up, better it is. So don-t delay and don-t take it easily.
Yes it is normal. I quit smoking about six months ago, and the hardest time form me was after the first month. The cravings got worse after the first two weeks and lasted about a month after that, then after you start coughing and bringing up that junk, you start to feel better.
May be it is not due to your quitting smoking, any way try these remedies. A cough is the body-s response to inflammation or irritation in the throat, larynx, bronchial tubes or lungs. Some coughs are dry, while others are considered productive. Here are a few simple home remedies that will help to overcome cough. Have honey in a hot drink before bed time.To relieve fits of coughing due to dryness in the throat, suck a few pepper corns. More remedies at

What can i do to quit smoking Ive been smoking for ten years? -

I smoked for over 20 yrs and have now quit for 2 years.
Tried the patch, and it was horrible for me. Also tried laser accupuncture, and only quit for a couple of weeks. Then, at the advice of a neighbor who quit, I tried real accupuncture and it did it for me. He only had to go once; I went 3 times.
I also chew Nicorette gum a few times a day just to nip the cravings.
I know how you feel now Ray. I-ve been there were you are today. I used to be a chain smoker till an year back. I wanted to quit, but just couldn-t.

And then I stumbled across this guide called quitting smoking. I tried to follow it. It took me a while to quit smoking but then finally I managed to quit. It really feels good and healthy to have quit smoking now.

Check it now here -

i quit 18 days ago, i just stopped as I was sick of the impending doom that I might wake up one day and realize that was the day that I got the -c- word! I smoked 13 years. I liked probably 200 of the 80000 smokes that I had. I hated not hanging out with family or friends who didnt smoke. You really need to want it and I swear you will say that was the best thing you ever did! You know you hate doing it, like it a little (casue its easy) but you hate that you know its bad for you and its in the back of your mind all the time. I really wish you luck! Its been hard but I went on a 1:30 bike ride today and wasnt winded my leg muscles were tired not my lungs! Good luck to you!!
chew lots of gum.
smoke lights.

I-m sure it will pass but will I be having these problems for the rest of my life? Will I ever be a non smoker? Is this normal?
I quit 25 years ago, and still get an occasional craving. Rarely, like once a year or so. It is truly an incredibly strong mental addiction.
BTW, I told myself 25 years ago I would start smoking again when I turned 70, and I still plan on it.
Yes, it will pass. I-ve known many people that have quit cold turkey with great success. You may want to try containing your nicotine cravings by becoming active. Try working out (aerobic and anaerobic - weight lifting). You-ll appreciate the overall better health you-ll experience: working out and no longer easily winded because of smoking. Best wishes!
Come on, you-re not going to throw away 4 months of doing without, are you??
We-re better than that!
Yes I am sure it is normal, however it is important not to give into the urge. All the hard work you have done to be smoke free for 4 months , you would have to do over again, and it is not worth it. Stay smoke free, drink a lot of water chew gum, and stay smoke free. In time you will not be able to stand the smell of tabacco or smoke. You just need some more time, to breathe fresh air, and take good care of your lungs. Keep on keeping on. Stay out of areas where there is smoking
This is quite normal and while the desire will pass, you can expect such flare-ups for many years.

I encourage you to evaluate what is going on in your life right now. Are you under a particular amount of stress, change, anxiety, etc.? Something that could be triggering your need for a cigarette. If you can identify the -trigger,- you can logically develop some alternatives to cigarettes for dealing with it.
Yes this is normal...... when you feel the craving inhale and exhale 8 times then drink a glass of water by the time you do this the craving will have gone drink plenty of water to flush the nicotine from your body alternatively try nicorette patchs.

How to improve the respiratory system after quitting smoking for almost three months so far? -

still after quitting smoking, there is still some kind of hot mouth in the morning, and how to speed improving the lungs system to back to normal
I don-t know how long you have been smoking and how much is the damage to your respiratory system, you should go to the doctor to take tests like x-rays, maybe some blood tests too. It is better to know before doing anything. But you can start with some little thing like this:

you can start by getting a good diet:

- cut fatty food, like fast food, and if you go get fast food get the grilled stuff only, no fries, easy on the mayo. Eat more vegetable and fruits.

- start exercising by taking small walks around the block everyday, then 2 blocks, then more and more. Do not push your body if you haven-t been at the doctor-s office before.

Your body is like a car engine, the better you take care of it and the better you fuel it, the faster and stronger will run.

Just start things slow, go to the doctor for a physical then go from there. Because if you have been smoking for a long time it will be along time to recover.

Go online to learn breathing techniques, maybe some yoga.

Good luck.

Urgent Help Needed. I am searching for a Anti-Nicotine chemicals or substance for Quit Smoking? -

I want to know about anti-nicotine chemicals or medicine to cure myself to quit smoking. Due to habit of smoking. I have tried so many time to quit, but can-t succeed. I have tried all the options like alternate of smoking by chewing gum, chocolates, controlling myself on craving, thinking about something else. But nothing could be worked, So finally I am searching for Anti-Nicotine substance to take out a nicotine from my body and blood. Please Help. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Please Give me a solution. Thanks in Advance.
Nicotine Addiction Medications

NICOTINE REPLACEMENT PRODUCTS provide nicotine without smoking. This helps to lessen the body-s craving for nicotine and to reduce withdrawal symptoms. Replacement products come in several forms: gum, patch, nasal spray, inhaler and lozenge. Nicotine gum, patch and lozenges can be bought over-the-counter. The nasal spray and inhaler (brand name Nicotrol) require a doctor-s prescription.

BUPROPION (brand names Zyban or Wellbutrin) is an antidepressant drug that can be used to help some people stop smoking. It is taken as a pill and requires a doctor-s prescription. Although it does not contain nicotine, it can help people resist the urge to smoke. Bupropion is often used for 7-12 weeks, beginning 1 or 2 weeks before smoking is stopped. It can be used for smoking cessation maintenance for up to six months. Side effects may include insomnia and dry mouth.

VARENICLINE (Chantrix) - is the first treatment that specifically targets the neurobiological mechanism of nicotine dependence. Studies show that the drug successfully stimulates dopamine (the brain-s pleasure chemical) and blocks nicotine receptors. This reduces nicotine withdrawal symptoms and cravings, helping to prevent a full relapse. The drug also blocks the effects of nicotine if you begin to smoke again.

Chantix is a prescription medication sold in tablet form. It is generally prescribed for 12 weeks. If you quit smoking during that time, your doctor may prescribe Chantix for another 12 weeks to enhance long-term success. Side effects may include nausea, vomiting, gas, headache and insomnia.

Researchers found Chantix to be more effective than a placebo in helping people quit smoking. In two studies, Chantix helped more people quit smoking than did bupropion (Zyban) ? the only other nicotine-free drug used as a quit-smoking aid.

Foulds J, Steinberg MB, Williams J, et al. -Developments in pharmacotherapy for tobacco dependence: past, present and future.-
Try the new smoking cessation drug Chantix. It blocks the part of the brain that craves nicotine and is not a psychiatric drug like Wellbutrin. I-ve tried it and the ironic thing is you can smoke but cigarettes will taste so bad you won-t need to. Good Luck.
I quit by using the Nicoderm CQ system. Cuts the cravings - weans you off the nicotene.
I also would recommend Chantix. I have heard it really works. Its expensive but so are cigs.
this is not a problem u just think once why should i live without this smoke and close u r face with u r palms breath deeply when u got the nicotine smell u r Brain hates nicotine slowly u r going leave the habit that-s it try it best of luck

How do you quit smoking? -

Any ideas to help me out?
It is really easy all you have to do is start another habit like eating a straw and it will quickly change. The habits never die I am sorry. But you will get better from not smoking.
My sister in law, quit, cold turkey. She was in the hospital seriously ill and the doctor told her, quit or die. She said she put her-s up in top of the cupboard so that she would have to climb, to get one, and quit cold turkey. My husband, her brother, said -If she can quit, anyone can-. But the damage had already been done, but she did live 5 years after that. My brother did not quit, and died, 10 years ago, next month. Will that make you quit?? If not, just sit down and figure out how much it is costing you. that should do it.
DON-T START!!!
see photo ........
Stop smoking and wait it out with all your strength. It won’t kill you but you will feel very uncomfortable. This is the only way. There is no magical pill or patch that will make you quite. Quitting is all up to you and your will power. Good luck!
ring a quitline!
try smoking cigars. but the best way is prob to start chewing gum instead.
Quit Cold Turkey! I did 9 weeks ago. It was very hard the first 3-4 days. I stayed in bed alot until the withdrawl was over. Then you have to stay away from Triggers. (Ex. I smoking 3 cigs every morning while reading the paper at the bar in our basement. I didnt even go in our basement for a month). Driving in the car was the hardest thing to get over. But I had to count the hours that I last had a puff of a cigarette, then counted the days, then weeks, now its months. I dont want to have to start from square one and go through that withdrawl again. So it helps me not to start again. Besides I-m saving about $30/week and I feel great.
Just a pointer though. Everytime you want a cigarette eat vegetables or fruits. I turned to cookies and sugary foods and gained 8 lbs in a month. I-m back on track now and I-m working out and eating right. No more wheezing or losing breathe from the smallest exercise. GOOD LUCK! Its worth quitting!!!
Perhaps a web search for -quit smoking- + -natural ways- might be of interest.

Trying to quit smoking, any suggestions? -

I am trying to quit smoking and would like to hear form other people what helped them to kick the habit. I recently lost my stepfather to lung cancer and I think that was a wake up call to me. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I quit 5 months ago with the patch....highly recommend it. Good luck to you.

Chew on cut straws, pretzel rods, sugarless gum. Avoid sugars and candy. Clean out your car real good, Febreeze the seats, headliner, carpeting. Clean the crap off the windows. If you smoke in the house, same thing, give it a good cleaning to get the smell out. Throw away your ashtrays and lighters (you don-t need them for anything else, don-t make excuses to keep them). Have a friend or family member for support and encouragement. Also, tell as many people as you can that you are quitting. Don-t want to embarrass yourself by re-starting.

How Do You Quit Smoking Weed? -

How Do You Quit Smoking Weed? -

I-m 16, and I-ve been smoking every day since I was 14. Weed kicks ***, but I don-t enjoy the high as much as need it any more. And I can-t deal with shlt going on in my life very well at all.

Weed is one of the few things that make me feel really good without any effort. How the f#ck do I quit this?
Find a hobby. Workout, working out releases a hormone called endorphins, it-ll make you feel good.
Your body built up a tolerance for weed and what used to be the -great high- you don-t get anymore. And if you do; it-s probably only for like 10 or 15 minutes; maybe less; unlike when it used to be 2 or 3 hours. Maybe that-s why they call weed a -gateway- drug. Since you don-t get the same high as one was used to they move on to something heavier. Something you don-t want to do. Smoke what you got and quit. It-s one of the easiest things to quit. You need a hobby to take it-s place....work out more, masterbate more, buy some games with all the money you save from buying weed.
realize that you don-t need it at all
just stop

I quit smoking. The doctor prescribed adipex to prevent weight gain. Is it safe for a thin person to take? -

Normally the doctor doesn-t prescribe adipex, but I am not wanting to gain weight from quiting smoking. I have a history of an eating disorder which is under control, but I don-t want to gain weight. I-m trying to do something good for myself by quitting smoking. I just want to be safe. I keep reading dangerous side effects of adipex and wanted to know if I would be ok taking it. Will this medicine make me lose weight or prevent me from gaining weight?
I-m quite surprised your doctor would prescribe such a powerful appetite suppresant to someone not overweight. Adipex is a stimulant. All I want to do when I take it is smoke to be honest. It makes me want to chain smoke and not eat. I lose weight on it rapidly and it speeds up my heart. Adipex is Phentermine, one half of the phen-fen drug that was taken off the market years ago because it was doing heart damage to patients who took it. I don-t think your doctor is very informed about this particular drug. There are other drugs that are safe such as wellbutrin or zyban.

I would never take the adipex while trying to quit smoking, it totally increases my cravings for nicotine.

Doctors prescribe dangerous drugs everyday. Unfortunately, many physicians are in the back pockets of the pharmaceutical companies and will prescribe just about anything. Adipex is not a weight-gain preventative but a weight-loss drug. It-s not the right way to go about quitting smoking without gaining weight.

I agree with the above poster in find a nutritional solution to providing your body with all that it needs and avoid the prescriptions all together.
hey, do you know of a Doctor that will prescribe Adipex??

I tend not to take prescriptions, but that-s because I-m very educated. The fourth leading cause of death in the US/Canada is drug interactions from properly prescribed drugs.

Your adrenal glands need to be supported, not stressed out from an appetite suppressant because you will gain even more weight once you stop the drug. You need to see a homeopath and get acupuncture and learn how to eat healthy.

A great resource is to Google Dr. Mercola-s web site and get on his mailing list. Lots to learn about maintaining wellness.

By the way, congratulations on your quitting smoking. That-s not an easy task.
your doctor would not have supplied it if it was not safe and also if you speak to your doctor he will go through all the side effects and also provide an alternative if you wish.
Just because a doctor prescribes something, doesn-t mean it is necessarily safe or even good take. They get paid by how many drugs they prescribe, so always be wary of the next - -script-. I would unequivocally DENY any medications. This is a garbage prescription that is keeping a perfectly active person from seeking the correct way to burn calories and keep them off.

Gaining weight is common among quitters because nicotine not only acts as a stimulant, but smoking in general is a -hand habit-, keeping you preoccupied in certain situations, cuts your appetite so you don-t eat nearly as much, so a new -food to mouth habit- can be a natural substitute.

Keeping weight off is just like anyone else, do it the right way and embrace the new lifestyle ahead of you, just as you have said goodbye to an unhealthy and unattractive lifestyle of smoking.

Do it right, and invest in yourself, go to the gym, and hire a trainer to take you through the correct program to keep weight off. This will stimulate you metabolically the correct way through exercise and the right diet. This is not going to be a venture of only a couple of months or weeks. This is a LIFESTYLE. Too many present day adults are plain lazy and not motivated to keep their bodies active.
Good for you for your decision to quite. I also had the same -problem- that post poned my decision to quite smoking. I was 210+ lbs at one point in my life, and 5 ft 4-. I then lost 80 lbs. and continued to smoke even after I wanted to quit because I thought I would gain weight back. I smoked for 20+ years and loved it for 19 1/2 of them. I put it off for 6 months until I just couldn-t stand it. I just wanted to quit! So, I kept my same routine, I work out 5 days a week, and kept my same diet. To be honest, I gained 25 lbs. Yup, 25 lbs. Slowly, but surely. Yet my close friend who dosen-t work out, gained only 4 lbs. I was so upset, being fat most of my life felt like hell, so I went to my doctor to see about what I could take. His words changed my outlook. -You can either start smoking again or taking pills, and die sooner, but thin, OR you can live longer and be a little chubby for a while-. He told me it could take a year, maybe two, but it will even out, as long as I maintain my healthy life style. He-s right. It has been 13 months, and all of a sudden, like a light switch, my weight is going down. I have lost 7 lbs. in one month and still going down. I have never felt so fantastic in my entire life. I look healthier, my energy is amazing, and I just feel like a totally different person. Even with the extra weight. Remember, smoking kills you, a size 12 won-t. All the best of luck, and stay healthy.
doctors dont prescribe if they a r not sure
well if your doctor prescribed it i-m sure it-s ok. he wouldn-t give u something that would harm u. anyway, if u still feel unsure you should talk to him about it.
I quit smoking 6 months ago----no quiting aids at ALL... just good old cold turkey-----I found that orange pieces from fresh oranges worked wonders for my cravings and I didn-t gain even ONE POUND since quitting...and I STILL eat the orange pieces.....having something to do with your hands is crucial in successful quiting as well (hence the oranges---because you have to peel them, pull the pieces apart and then bite into them)...
