How can I quit smoking? -

I started smoking just before I turned 14 and now I-m 15 and I can-t kick the habit :( What did you do to quit?
You should never have started smoking, try using nicotine patches. They should help calm the cravings, eventually phasing out the awful habit.
Oh dear, that-s not very smart is it now?! tut tut

I say quick while you are young, i smoked for longer than that and managed to quit by cold turkey. Smoking is massive burden, health wise and money wise, it will hit you hard if you carry on.

When i wanted to quit i bought -Alan Carr-s Easy Way to Quit Smoking- (Not the Comedian! It-s on cd-rom or book)

It helped a lot when it came to realising the truth about smoking.
YOU SMOKE, ******* hell, you have some serrious issues girl, smoking at 15 is really bad because it is VERY likely you will never quit no matter how hard you try, best thing to do was to never start, I have friends who smoke, i just tell them there ******* stupid and walk off. I wish you would stop smoking it-s a disgusting habbit, do you want your body to be all ****** up with yellow teeth, bad breathe, lung cancer, no man would want you, seriously you need to quit for the best, if you want to live a good healthy life the QUIT now, please.
I don-t know how to tell you to quit smoking, but I started before I turned 14. I am now fixing to be 19 in a month and smoke a pack a day. It is terrible, expensive and harmful to my health. I am in college and get out of breath walking to class. Quit while you can and want to.
It-s just a matter of willpower.Let me start you off.You-re paying money to fill up your lungs with tar and slowly kill yourself.

You can use a nicotine patch to kick the habit,or nicotine gum,or whatever else methods they have in the drug store.
Learn the Facts - Do you want to eventually die in a horrible way? Do they cost alot of money? Do you stink because of them? Can you get cancer and other deadly diseases? Yes?, yes, yes and YES. Now give me the pros...............

Oh that-s right, there are none!

Think of it as paying for your own funeral! - Sad but true.
I heard the secret to this thousands of times from an ex-smoker.
The secret to quitting smoking is, you have to want to quit. Just make your mind up -I-m going to quit, no matter what-.
If you dont really want to quit, why bother?
Coming from a guys view, kissing a girl who smokes is a turn off, like kissing an ashtray, (a guy who doesn-t smoke, anyway).
You-ll catch more (decent) guys if you drop the cigs.
there are many methods out there for quitting-
- nicotine patch
- nicotine gum
- nicotine inhaler
- pills
- -cold turkey-
- smoker-s helpline
- websites/message boards

Good for you for trying to quit so young :)
Read this story and how this guy managed to quit, it helped me too: http://www.thequitsmokingsecret.com
The nicotine patch could help.
Nicotine gum, too.
But my dad would use that and he said it tastes horrible.
:O u smoke!!!!!u never told me.
that is a nasty habbit. Try those nicotine tabs or chewing gum.
Just quit! There is no other way!

OR LISTEN TO LINKIN PARK
Breaking the habit!
put your mind off it or replace it with something like chewing gum

How much weight did you gain when you quit smoking? -

Thanks! Your-re sweet!

never smoked so n/a
my friend quit smoking and she gained about 30lbs but she replaced one bad habit for another.

My mom quit, and she gained 5 to 10, but lost it, once her body adjusted to the change. It was very long that she held the weight gain.
i quit smoking for 3 months and didnt put on any weight. i stoped drinking alcohol for 1 month and put on weight.....work that one out??
u mean LOST weight?
Honestly only ten pounds so far and it-s been a month.
I don-t smoke, but my mother gained around 15-20 lbs. That was altogether after months. She dropped it though.
I have been quit for around 5 years........

I gained 15 Lbs. shortly after that.

You can lose weight but you can-t lose cancer!
I quit 18 months ago and put on 6 kilo-s it-s taken at least 12 months to lose the weight
25lbs started back and tried to stop again 10 more
I quit smoking about 8-9 month ago.Felling greater then ever.Started exercising and losing weight.
I quit in april last year and put on about 5kg, then i started smoking again in november and i didnt lose the 5kg, now i have quit again........its a challenge, they say -once a smoker, always a smoker-
my friend quite and gained alot of weight back..but at least she has the energy now to burn it all off

Does tar stay in your lungs forever after youve quit smoking? -

I used to smoke but i went cold turkey coz i was afraid that i would get cancer and heart disease from it.So i was wondering with all the cigarettes that i smoked and the tar left behind in my lungs. Does it stay there forever ? or does it go away somehow ?
It goes. It takes about a decade, but it goes, don-t worry.
they do stay in your lungs for some time but it slowly is extracted by the body. will eventually go, as long as you stay healthy.
yes it will u shude have not started 2 smoke

god bless u
It will go away natrually, but it takes some time. Depending on how long/much you smoke, it could take anywhere from 6 months to 10 years.
It goes away eventually, after ten years of smoking cessation your body has recovered to the point that any effects have gone - its as if you-ve never smoked at all. So 9 years and 363 days for me to go then!
take many years up to 40 even longer but they will never be the same again
The cilia in your lungs will eventually remove it. It-ll take a while.
No, it will not stay there forever. Usually after you have quit smoking...the tar will begin to resolve after about 7 years. It may seem like a long time to just BEGIN...but thats better than to keep adding to it right?

Glad u quit smoking...I think it-s unattractive in men and women.
only till you die.not forever.
your lungs heal but the damage is already donee they r scared fo life
it goes away...eventually. nothing immediate.
I think that the tar does stay. However, i do think your body gets rid of some of it through breathing and blood circulation. Try searching it on the interenet. I-m not entirely sure.

How did you quit smoking? -

I need help...I am so addicted to cigarettes...I-m 30 years old and I-ve been smoking for 10 years now and I would like to quit...I think there gross and I hate the smell they leave on your hands and clothes...But, I have a hard time quitting...I need Any suggestions or help...
After years of trying, I finally had to do it cold turkey.
I quit cold turkey. I did have withdrawals but i gave myself pep talks. I really don-t know how I was able to quit. ITIS DEFINITELY WORTH IT GOOD LUCK
nicaderm patches really work you should try them
I have started trying to quit the past 3 days also and I am truly scared. I am going to the doctor this morning to talk about this terrible addiction I have to cigarettes. I am 54 yrs. old and have smoked since I was 14. So this is 40 yrs of smoke build-up that needs to be cleaned out. I have tried quitting before, several times, with no success.

But this time, a week ago, I suffered with almost having a stroke. I started to tingle and get numb on my left hand side, fingers first then up my arm.

I have never been so scared in my life. I thought I was going to die. I got taken to the hospital and the dr. said I had to quit smoking. But it is so hard, because I love my smoking, but WHAT I AM I DOING TO MYSELF???? I now have High Blood Pressure and need to keep that down, wayyyy down.

So today is the day that I put those cigarettes down and pray that I never take one again!!

I need all the prayers I can get too, so if you want to contact me, please do so and we can quit together, if you would like.

I wish you the best and we both know, cigarettes are NOT good for you or anyone around you.
i went and had the cold laser done and it works.i smoked for 12 years and quit cold turkey after the laser
Consult your doc.. There is a special type of chewing gum that the docs recommend to chew whenever one feels the need to smoke.. Few of my friends have tried it - it works..
I have been smoking for 40+ years. I also have tried to quit many, many times without success. Several weeks ago I heard about -CHANTIX- and talked my doctor to perscribing this for me. With Chantix and the Grace of God, I have been smoke free for 5 weeks now. There are very little side effects. (nausea if taken of an empty stomache) The program offers web or telephone support. You are a young lady...you do not want to end up like me with emphysema and COPD (Yes, they ARE 2 different lung diseases) Quit now while you have your youth. Good Luck and May God be with You!
I only smoked a little in college but my dad was quite the smoker when I was very young. After his dad and brother dies from lung cancer, and my brother had lung problems, he was very motivated to quit. He went to a program called smoke-enders. I do not know exactly but, basically they educate you, you trade stories about when and why you smoke, and you gradually cut back how many you smoke. He has seen many people quit this way after being a teacher. Good Luck to you.
Read Alan Carrs book, The easy way to stop smoking, it does work. A friend gave it to me after it had worked for her, of course I thanked her but thought what a load of rubbish...reading a book won-t get me off the smokes but before I had even finished the book I wanted to throw the bloody smokes away. I have been off them for nearly seven years now and have no desire to smoke again. I was about 13 when I started to smoke and 41 before I finally quit. I found it surprisingly easy, in fact I guess it is only as hard as you make it yourself, the old mind over matter trick. Actual cravings last for less than 5 minutes and you only need to do it for one cigarette and one minute at a time if you think about it...for instance just for this minute I won-t have a cigarette..I might have it later but just for now I won-t. I did that to stop drinking when I was only 22 and I am still sober now at 48.
Good luck....good health can be yours!
I smoked 20 years and tried to quit smoking several times. I-ve tried cold turkey, family/friend intervention, smoking cessation classes, you name it. Then I bought the -patch- and it was easy. As with any medication, results vary from person to person but it worked great for me. While serving a tour in Iraq, I lapsed and started smoking again, but when I came back I used the patch again, and I was done. The cravings were extremely minimal, and only when I did something that was usually associated with smoking. A simple change in routine fixed that. No matter what solution you use however, you have to truly want to quit. The greatest obstacle is your mind. Don-t beat yourself up if you slip, but don-t except it as defeat either. Good luck.
I started an exercise plan. When I felt like smoking I hit the gym or went for a walk, anything cardio that would make me breathe hard. The more cardio I did the less I felt like smoking. It helped me because I noticed a difference in my lung capacity very quickly, that helped steel my resolve not to smoke. Good Luck!
I stopped soking 20 days ago with the help of a perscription drug Chantix , it-s been working pretty well here, No slip-up-s. But Ihave also been recieving support from American Lung association as well. You might want to a take a look.

http://www.lungusa.org

Once there you want to click on the quit smoking link and sign up. There are alot of people that can support you, just follow through every day. Good Luck !
KAS
i quit december 1st 2006...i smoked my last smoke and just quit buying them. smoked for years..but if you don-t have any you can-t smoke....so quit buying them.
I-m 48 and have been smoking since I was 14. I-ve quit twice before, but within the next month, I will be quitting for good and doing so by taking the advice I gave my father before he died of Emphasyma. And that was to tackle the job of quitting smoking just like you would tackle having a deadly disease. Use every resource available and MAKE IT YOUR MAJOR PRIORITY EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY BECAUSE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT.

I became a grandmother last year and am about to have my third grandchild this year. My children are refusing to let their kids grow up like they did and like I did- in an atmosphere of toxins. If that means not letting their kids have a relationship with grandma, so be it. My pregnant daughter won-t visit me because I smoke and she is protecting her unborn child. It-s insulting, embarrassing, humiliating, and degrading, but I respect her decision because she-s right. If only my mother had done that when she was pregnant with me. If only I-d done that when I was pregnant with my kids.

My mom died of congestive heart failure and smoked up until she went into a coma. She smoked and caught her oxygen tube on fire.... twice. I watched her die. I watched my dad die. Both slowly and painfully and prematurely because of years of smoking.

It all boils down to the decision of choosing life over death; health over pain. Not only for ourselves, but for the ones we love who we subject to the even more toxic second hand smoke.

I wish us both the best of luck. And if we -backslide-, I hope that neither of us will return to smoking, but immediately start working on quitting again immediately.

In the past, I found the patch and a wonderful hypnosis tape to be helpful. I wish I could find that hypnosis tape again, but regardless, I WILL be joining you in your plight within the next few weeks.

We didn-t smoke when we were kids. Perhaps trying to recapture that frame of mind will help too. And the daily affirmation -I AM a non-smoker-!
Drink alot of water.
hi there i-m 29 years old i quit yesterday 4 the umpteenth time. good luck to us all. i-m having cravings and now sweating nonstop cant wait to get back home. all the best. theres nothin cold about this turkey
well, i-ve been hooked to this thing for 4 years now. but now i quit. ok...i may smoke one cigarette or two a day...but i just puff them like a cigar. also, it-s been 35 days since i stopped smoking a whole pack everyday. the thing started when i got the flu a month ago. and since, i couldnt really smoke like i used to before. i found that flu helpful when it came to smoking. it made me really vulnerable to smoking and after that i couldnt enjoy my cigarette like i used to. i dont know if this can help u people in any way...but i am just sharing my experience.
I have been smoking since I was 18, and now I am 41. I somewhat agree with -streetboy-, only because the last checkup I had my doctor took an extensive blood test and told me that I should be highly anemic, but the cigarette smoking is stopping the anemia. That didn-t make sense to me, but I see what streetboy is saying. Quiting after a long period could do some harm, although I think about quitting alot for health, and financial reasons.
Hi there,

I smoked for 20 years and realized I needed to quit for health reasons as most do. I smoked over a pack a day! I tried everything for years and nothing worked until I found Accupuncture. It-s a simple procedure where they stick a few needles at certain points in each ear. I don-t like needles at all but I had to do it and it wasn-t that bad. It was like a pinch. As you sit and listen to medatative music and drink herbel tea for 1/2 hr you become relaxed and the craving for cigarettes do deminish, at least they did for me in a short time. I went for 30 sessions and have now been smoke free for 3 years. I know without a shadow of a doubt that I will never return to smoking because of Accupucture only for me. Some people don-t need as many sessions as I did. I was ok with the not smoking after only a couple of sessions but I wanted to make sure I never smoked again, so I kept going for 3 months. Here in the US you may not be so lucky in obtaining sessions for free as I received them in Canada being Canadian, who knows, I don-t. There may be programs out there that help people stop smoking as they have in Canada. It is one of many programs to try and there must be something the US government implements to help people quit as it is in the Country-s best interest for overall health to live longer as proven medically. IAccupucture does work but not for everyone and is worth a shot because nothing worked for me. I wish you much luck. If you want it bad enough, you will and can do it! Im prime example of that because as sad as it sounds I did enjoy smoking at one time but not now! It is not easy but you can do this! Good luck!

Deborah
I don-t no weather you consume alcohol or not, if you do stay away from any place that serves alcohol, cause I know from experience that alcohol makes you want to smoke.
Another tip that I can give you is to refrain from all caffeine as this will also give you the urge to smoke.
Hang around in all the non smoking areas you can, such as restaurants (non smoking areas)pizza parlors, church.
Keep natural snacks on hand, such as carrot sticks, apples etc.etc.this will help you ,
I hope this will help you and good luck with your quest.
Dont sit around!!! All you will do is think about it, I read in a previous post to get some thing to chew on I used those little straws you stir coffee with you can chew the heck out of them and they are somthing for your mouth and hands to do. Like a few on here I have only been off them for a short time...it has been a month, but I quit cold turkey after trying a few other times using the -cut down- method and patches only problem is is that your body is still getting nicotine, the first week is hard....the first weekend is hell particularly if you like to enjoy a few beers on the weekend. Also workout...you may remeber as a kid being able to run around and having energy, well that comes back mighty quick once youve stopped, I am working out to replace the smoking and I have lowerd my heart rate by 15 bpm at rest and I can do 40 min of cardio and still breath, not to mention walk up the stairs without feeling like I might pass out. I had smoked for 12 years and now that I am off of them I feel great and you know what I look better too, your skin kinda turns color from maybe the lack of oxygen or whatever, but it really does affect the way you not only feel, but look too. I am not going to say it is easy because it is not and even after a month with no nicotine I still have odd little cravings, but I am staying away for good and getting my life and my health back not to mention that you will save between $1400 to upwards of $1900 a year. Good luck and I hope you can finally achieve your goal!! And definatly count the weeks because you tell people and they say good job and you feel proud of yoursef and that keeps you motivated.
I smoked for 29 years and quit 8 months ago. I did it cold turkey but I have no problem with NRTs - whatever it takes to quit putting the poison in your system that comes from the smoke, not necessarily the nicotine.

The other quit aid that I stumbled across was a website - www. quitnet.com. It is an online support group that really made it possible for me to quit. Check it out and you-ll find people on there who smoked multiple packs a day for 30 and 40 years who were able to quit with the help of quitnet.

One last piece of advice: I was lucky because my quit worked the first time I tried. I have known numerous people on quitnet that had to quit several times before they were successful. KEEP TRYING!!!!

Good luck - the outcome is worth the effort to get there!
You will get to a point where you cannot stand smoke or smoking anymore, and that is when you will decide you have had enough. Sometimes it is because a loved one is lost or sick because they smoked, but you will know when the time is right. When i quit, each time I wanted one, I would convince my self to wait another hour and see how I feel then. That time would pass, and I would try it again. Good Luck! it is soooo hard, but sooo worth it.
theres no 1 method that works on everybody so im gonna just tell ya how i did it. I always promised myself that i would quit b4 i turned 30 , cause thats the age were i felt my health would not ever get better and i would suffer from cancer. well 30 came in nov. and dec. i was still smoking, this really hurt because i had gotten used 2 being let down by most other people but when i knew that i was the only one responsable for my bad nasty life threatening habit , i knew that i had to really give a whole hearted effort. so some time towards the end of december i caught another nasty cold ,( like many smokers often do) i thought right now would be a good time to throw these nasty things into the garbage, ( crushed so i wouldnt dig them back out). i chewed gum and carried mints in my shirt pocket where i used to keep my cigs, cause the habit of reaching for that pocket was still there.i also did other lil things like the rubberband on the wrist so when i thought that reaccuring thought of having a cig would pop up i would just pull the rubberband and let it go and it would sting so i was replacing the good thought of a cig with instant pain, just lil mind tricks like that along with real pain really starts to sink in to those places that would have felt even greater pain had i lit a cig. i also put the money i would have spent on cigs in the bank and had a thousand dollars saved up b4 i knew it. i took my family on a camping trip at the end of the year and carried ten one hundred dollar bills around during the small vac. spending it on my family felt so much better than making the tobaco company exec.s richer.I also hate the smell of tobaco smoke and i think that was one of the biggest things that helped turn the tide in my favor . good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is a new medicine out now called Chantix. It-s WONDERFUL in my opinion, I-ve tried lots of other methods and failed. I was able to quit with this pretty easily, but you also have to make the commitment to quit - stick with it. It took away my urge to smoke. It-s not covered by insurance but to me it was well worth the cost. Good luck.
I quit cold turkey!!But it was about the 10th time I tried, I have been smoking for almost 20 years. If you can make it through the 3rd and 4th day you can do it, those are the withdrawl days. Instead of smoking you have to find other things to occupy your time, my husband and I both quit at the same time. The hardest time seemed to be after dinner, we started drinking coffee instead of smoking, and then we started excersing for 20 minutes just until the craving passed. I found that cough drops (I use Ricola) help with the urges as well, I tried the commit lozenges, but they really burn your throat and keep you hooked on the nicotine, the cough drops give you the same sensation and they are cheaper. I have had a couple of slips, but I continue to keep trying to quit everyday. Good Luck.
That-s more than half the battle, you have to want to quit. Then I suggest getting the patch, that is the best way.....
I have found that the best way for me to quit and stay quit is with support. Quitting smoking is the hardest thing that I have ever done. I go regularly to meetings at yahoo groups. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/lobbyville/cal

I don-t know if is spam or not, but this has been the biggest help to me. I was a smoker for about 25 years smoking 1 1/2 packs a day. I have now been quit for: I have been quit for 1 Month, 1 Day, 2 hours, 32 minutes and 41 seconds (32 days). I have saved $191.82 by not smoking 802 cigarettes. I have saved 2 Days, 18 hours and 50 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 12/29/2006 5:00 AM.

There are lots of people to help here that have gone through and are going through what you are.

Good Luck

Debbie
1. Visit with your smoking Friends, hospital where they treat asthma, lung cancer,TB patients
2. Try to stop those habits which demands cigarette afterward or before!
3. Remove things away, which reminds you cigarette eg. ashtrays cigarette cases and smoking Friends(for a while atlest)
4. Just control that time with full determination when you urge cigarette most, even if just one puff, instead drink a glass of water
5. Instead of tea, coffee, spicy food, alcohol which seems great with cigarette try lemon,Orange, grapes drinks
6. Fill the vacuum of cigarette pleasure, with some sports, marshal arts. they give you that adrenal rush which helps filling the missed pleasure of cigarette in hand!
7. Be happy about your enhanced young glow on face, vitality and stamina, as you get all this simply because you quit smoke
MY GOOD FRIEND, THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE. YOU WILL DIE (SOONER) SMOKING! YOU MUST WANT TO STOP SMOKING, SMELL BETTER AND JUST SIMPLY WANT TO LIVE LONGER AND HEALTHIER. IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DO ANY OF THESE IT WILL NEVER WORK!!!

I STOPPED COLD TURKEY ONE MONTH AGO USING THE FOLLOWING INSPIRATIONAL WORDS FROM BOB MARLEY (A SMOKER HIMSELF AND WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM):

- EMANCIPATE YOURSELF FROM MENTAL SLAVERY....NONE BUT YOURSELF CAN FREE YOUR MIND -.

HAS BEEN WORKING FOR ME SO FAR JUST FINE, NO PATCH, NO PILLS, JUST THE WILL TO ENJOY THIS RELATIVE SHORT TIME I HAVE BEEN GIVEN ON THIS EARTH!

GOOD LUCK.
It-s all how you think about quiting. For me, I just put them down on the counter, in plain site. I never told my self that I could not have one. ( the reason for that is, because if you tell your self you can-t have something you want it more. same thing with food and dieting)
I just challenged my self to see how long I could go with out one. I went one day, then two, three, a week, etc... Also a good point I would like to make is, I didn-t tell anyone what I was doing, so they could not add pressure to me. That-s what worked for me, I have been smoke free for almost 18 years now. Good Luck!
How did you quit smoking? -

How can I get him to quit smoking?!? -

How can I get him to quit smoking?!? -

He-s been smoking since 5th grade and he-s now almost 21. He says if I quit il end up killing ppl. LOL he-s a stressed out person.
Ask him to try a nicotine replacement. Tell him that if he wants you can give him the big lecture on what he-s doing to his body. But he already knows about that stuff. Tell him it is time for him to quit, he is killing himself, and he needs to take this seriously.
There is a special kind of gum that lets him start noticing that smoking is disgusting (changes his taste buds for smoking only) do not let him know that the gum does that, trust me it will help contact me if you need to know where to buy the gum, if hes been smoking since 5th grade i am 65% sure that he can die at age 68, or younger maybe in the 40-s minimum, please contact me this is a serious problem i have many ways to make him quit smoking and if you think this is not a big problem it is, it can also effect his wife if his married or when he gets married or his kids (if he has any or if hes getting any) * ESPECIALLY BABIES* please i would like to help, i would like his email if he has one, i can him and i can change his whole life around, if anyone in your family needs help let them contact me. I am 89% sure that they will quit. :)
honestly, it-s pretty hard to get a guy to quit smoking for the sole reason of quitting for his girlfriend. he-s been smoking for over 10 years so that-s a pretty heavy thing. if he does quit he won-t really kill people obviously, but he will be so unbelievably irritable. it-s soooo hard to quit for long-term users, he-ll need the hardcore stuff. some of my friends have tried the patch and it really helped them. i heard the gum stops the craving a bit but not completely. he has to really want to quit to be able to do it really.
I just quit smoking 01/06/09, been 7 weeks without any nicotine....i smoked from when i was 14 till now when i was 25, thats over 10 years, tell him to get the commit lozenge,i used it the first week i was off cigs and then i didn-t need them anymore...sugar free gun really helps too for the small cravings he-ll get when quitting, just keep him active and busy so he doesn-t have time to smoke or even think about it, after the first month it-s all down hill....good luck
Bupropion (Wellbutrin) helps a lot, and it-s available as a generic now. It-s an antidepressant, it-s not right for everybody. But if he-s ok to take it, he would have a much easier time quitting.

That is, if he wants to quit. If he doesn-t want to, you-re not going to make him.
Hounding him will just make him more determined NOT to quit. In fact he may just dump you for a girl who does smoke. Try subtle things like not kissing him back after he smokes a cigarette, asking him to change his clothes because they stink, stuff like that.
smoking is what cool kids do
stop kissing him on the mouth!
How can I get him to quit smoking?!? -

Tell me one effective way to quit smoking? -

Tell me one effective way to quit smoking? -

I-ve been trying to but can-t
If you are smoking 15 sticks of cigarettes everyday, try to smoke just 14 sticks each day within 5 days. Then after you done it, try to smoke 13 sticks each day with in 5 days. Do the cycle again and again but try to lessen the number of cigarettes you smoke each time you finish the 5 day period. If you still feel like smoking even you already reached the maximum number of cigarettes that you should smoke everyday, just try to take mint candies instead of taking another cigarette.

I don-t smoke but i know a lot of friend who did this just to stop smoking and it works. All you have to do is to add a little bit of self control to yourself. And after you succeed doing this, dont ever try to smoke cigarettes again.
There is only one way to quit smoking and that is to gradually smoke less over time until you eventually stop. Patches aren-t gonna make you stop alone as they are still giving you nicotine which means you will still be craving for that nicotine hit when you stop using the patches. Without willpower you are not gonna stop. The best thing to is surround yourself with people that don-t smoke and have a break from being around smokers when they light up even if that means spending less time with friends for a few weeks. At the end of the day if you really want to stop you will, but it will take time. Look for substitutes like an occasional alcoholic drink or a hobby e.g. going to the gym, playing sports etc. You need to occupy your mind so that smoking isn-t popping into your head constantly. Being bored will not help your mission. Take this advice very seriously and remember to be strong even if it means telling yourself that smoking is negative and will have no long-term benefits at all. Quitting will improve your health, your mood, and your mental strength. Good luck
Going cold turkey is the best and most effective but it takes an awful lot of determination and a VERY strong desire not to be addicted to cigarettes anymore.
My father smoked two packs a day and just decided one day to quit. He never smoked again. It can be done but you really, really have to want to get off them.
I have known a few people to quit smoking. They all went cold turkey which is very hard. They had done it by saying -hey I just went an hour without smoking, I can go one more.- Eventually they made it a day and could go one more. After about a week, they realized they could do it. I hope this helps and good luck.
i have a strong Mind over Matter personality...just tell yourself -hey, i can control what i do, i wanna quit. so just do it, sure the nicotine will fight ye for a bit :) but whos stronger? your mind, or a lil cigarette that causes you harm?
Think thrifty...your just burning Money QUIT...PUT THE NOTE IN YOUR HOUSE DOOR, ROOM DOOOR, BATHROOM MIRROR PLUS ALL PLACES YOU HABITUALLY SEE EVERYDAY...cHEERS

Do meditation for about two hours chanting -OM,OM and when you are in force to have smoking, instead cigarette take, bublegum or choclate, etc. You can stop without problem
Try the patches, or try cold turkey which is so hard to do, and now they even have a pill that you can get from your doctor...
CHANTIX
Don-t buy cigars anymore.... that-s all

Success stories on people who managed to quit smoking
Go at it cold turkey! (not actual turkey if you don-t know the expression it means that you just give up and don-t smoke and resist the urges then all of a sudden hopefully you will have given up on them)
buy some nicorette gum or a nicotine patch
Fill out your own two weeks notice, and smoke one cig less each day for that 2 weeks, and commit to yourself you wont smoke at all after the 2 weeks no matter what, and exercise self control.
Count the number of cigarettes you currently smoke per day. Tomorrow, count out that number and remove one. Don-t smoke any more than those you-ve set out. Do this every day, reducing the number by one or one-half (destroy the other half) per day. If you-re a heavy smoker, that-s perhaps only a 1-2% reduction in nicotine per day - nothing you-ll miss too much.

That will reduce your nicotine dependence quite a bit. You-ll still be hard-pressed to stop completely, but it-s a lot less willpower to cut out 5 per day than 50.
Find something else to occupy your hands and mouth with.

no joke
Here are 12 techniques that will help you quit smoking......
1. Deep Breathing Perhaps The Single Most Powerful And Important Technique: Every time you want a cigarette, do the following. Do it three times.
Inhale the deepest lung-full of air you can, and then, very slowly, exhale. Purse your lips so that the air must come out slowly. As you exhale, close your eyes, and let your chin gradually sink over onto your chest. Visualize all the tension leaving your body, slowly draining out of your fingers and toes, just flowing on out.
This is a variation of a yoga technique and is very relaxing. If you practice this, you-ll be able to use it for any future stressful situation you find yourself in. And it will be your greatest weapon during the strong cravings sure to assault you over the first few days.
2. Taking In Fluids:
The first few days, drink LOTS of water and fluids to help flush out the nicotine and other poisons from your body.
Remember that the urge to smoke only lasts a few minutes, and will then pass. The urges gradually become farther and farther apart as the days go by.
3. Stay Away From Alcohol, Sugar And Coffee
Do your very best to stay away from alcohol, sugar and coffee the first week or longer, as these tend to stimulate the desire for a cigarette. Avoid fatty foods, as your metabolism will slow down a bit without the nicotine, and you may gain weight even if you eat the same amount as before quitting. So discipline about diet is extra important now. No one ever said acquiring new habits would be easy!
Stretch out your meals; eat slowly and wait a bit between bites.
After dinner, instead of a cigarette, treat yourself to a cup of mint tea or a peppermint candy.
4.Taking An Oral Substitute
One can use cinnamon sticks, chewing gum or artificial cigarettes as a substitute. You will mostly find that after the first week of being a non smoker, you wouldn’t even need these.
5. Get Exercising
Go to a gym, sit in the steam, exercise. Change your normal routine – take time to walk or even jog around the block or in the local park.
6.Pamper Yourself
Go ahead and join a Sahajayoga Centers in or take a long bath - pamper yourself. Get yourself involved in a hobby.
7. Ask For Support
Ask for support from co-workers, friends and family members. Ask for their tolerance.. Take a chance - try it and see!
Ask friends and family members not to smoke in your presence. Don-t be afraid to ask. This is more important than you may realize.
8. Destroy All Your Cigarettes
On your quit day, hide all ashtrays and destroy all your cigarettes, preferably with water, so no part of them is smokeable.
9. Write It Down
Write down ten good things about being a nonsmoker - and then write out ten bad things about smoking. Do it. It really helps.
10. Don’t Pretend
Don-t pretend smoking wasn-t enjoyable – it was. This is like losing a good friend – and it-s okay to grieve the loss. Feel that grief, don-t worry, it-s okay. Feel, and you heal. Stay with it - you can do it!
11. Affirm Yourself
Silently repeating the affirmation -I am a nonsmoker- will help you change your view of yourself, and, even if it may seem silly to you, this is actually useful. Use it!
12. Holding Out
However, it-s vital to understand that from time to time, you will still be suddenly overwhelmed with a desire for -just one cigarette.- This will happen unexpectedly, during moments of stress, whether negative stress or positive (at a party, or on vacation). If you are unprepared to resist, succumbing to that -one cigarette- will lead you directly back to smoking.
Remember the following secret: in these surprise attacks during Phase 2 - and they will definitely come - do your deep breathing, and hold on for five minutes, and the urge will pass..

when i was a missionary for my church we-d help people quit smoking. there are a number of steps in the program we used. you quit cold turkey and then they were to be followed strictly for 7 days, which is the length it takes for the nicotene to get out of your system...after that, apply what steps work for you because then it-s all psychological. i can-t remember them all, but here are some:

1. eat breakfast
2. drink grapefruit juice
3. keep vegetable and fruit snacks available at all times
4. take vitamin C
5. brush your teeth three times a day
6. use mouthwash and keep a small bottle with you
7. tell your friends and people around you...if you can trust them
8. pray for help
9. take 5 deep breaths
10. don-t drink coffee, alcohol or whatever else it is you drink while you smoke
11. go for a walk...shopping, exercising, play sports...something to get the jitters out.
12. drink enough water

it-s tough. i watched a lot of people do it. some succeeded, some didn-t. it had a lot to do with will power and determination to quit. it is possible, though. make a mantra for yourself to chant during the hardest times.

How can I detox my body after recently quitting smoking? -

I just quit smoking a couple of days ago and want to detox my body to feel better. Any suggestion?
Wow....wtg! I know how hard that is as I did the same thing over 5 years ago but hey...this is about you! Stay with it and remember, you don-t have to stop.....just stop starting!

You body is going to go through some serious detoxing all on it-s own so don-t rush it but things you can do on your own are:

-drink lots of lemon water
-take vitamin C
-start a good multivitamin (not that drug store crap)
-exercise
-sweat....be it a hot tub, sauna, anything that makes you sweat

Those things alone are a great start. From there as you progress you can add many other great natural products that will help you to detox but be very careful not to rush it as you can actually create a detox crisis.....meaning, your body is trying to get rid of toxins faster than it-s capable of and it can cause incredible stress on your liver, kidneys and lymphatic system so easy does it!
Full of BS. There is no such thing as a -detox crisis-. Natural products will not -help you to detox-.

You would take healthcare advice from a Shaklee salesperson? One who probably never finished college? Ohhhh -- kayyy....

As a matter of fact I have done a detox from natrapath and it works, believe me!! as well as healthy eating from health food shop, lots of water and excercise, this I have done and I feel so much better, amazing really! for 3 weeks no gluten, wheat, dairy, red meat, coffee, lots of fresh food

there is no such thing as detox, it-s a myth. all you need to do to detox is stay away from the toxic substance, ie nicotine. if you want to treat yourself nice and healthy for having quit smoking that-s positive too, but nothing-s going to get the cigarette stuff out of your body but time.

dandelion tea will help to get rid of the crap in your body.

horse radish will help clear your lungs and sinuses

oats will help with cravings
things like old fashion oatmeal.
making home made granola and snacking on it

if you are anxious the essential oil of lavender will help calm you down.
for 10 days drink 2 quarts of water, fresh vegtables and fruit, raw pecans and almonds, and whole wheat. no meat no dairy.
do 5 minutes of jumping jacks a day, and take cascara from your healthfood store as recommended.
thatyll do it!!!!!.
Nothing you eat, drink or squirt up your a$$ will do anything to -detox- you. It will happen naturally over time if you stop putting the -toxins- in, but the process cannot be hurried.
vegetable, - fruit juices and lots of good clean water is about the best you can do for yourself to flush the chemicals out of your system.
Osha root really helps with that deep, rattling cough. Its a natural expectorant.
exercise.
At some spas they have something called an herbal body wrap or a wet dry wrap. They are excellent ways to detox. In fact, that-s what they do to druggies on the street in order to help them into a program. It-s fantastic they wrap you up and you sweat all the junk out. Good luck and congratulations, it-s not easy to quit an addiction!
This program was great. Thank you so much.

I had smoked for about 34 years. I never really tried to quit smoking before, I tried this program and it was really easy for me. I smoked about 1-1-1/2 packs of cigarette-s a day.

I would recommend this program to anyone. It is worth for every smoker who wants to quit this slow suicide habit, this is your last chance to get rid of it eternally.

What have you guys tried and/or what do you know of to really work?
If you begin a total body healthy eating and exercise program, then it is much easier to quit! Begin a jogging program, even if on a treadmill....you will lose the desire to smoke. Whenever you take away a bad habit, you must replace it with a positive habit...studies have shown this to be true! Best of luck..you can do it!
My dad and my Aunt quit cold turkey. It may have helped that they both live with non smokers but other than that...That is all they did. I must worn you , they both put on more than 20lbs. My aunt became obsessed with eating and my dad, well, he just has a bad diet. Just tell yourself you don-t want to do it anymore and stick to your guns.
Good Luck!
You can buy patches or the pills to stop smoking at the pharmacy right off the shelf without a prescription.
I quit due to a illness - so just tell yourself I donot want to get sick or if already sick I donot want to get sick again like I am now. It isn`t as hard as people say.
First you rally have to WANT to quit. I did hypnosis and it worked. I walked out of there and didn-t touch a cig for THREE years. Sadly, I got drunk in Prague (where everyone smokes) thought I could smoke just one..and was terribly wrong. Now I am adjusting myself and my schedule. Instead of smoking 1st thing in the morning with my coffee, I have a big glass of water and do half hour with hands weights. Since we do not smoke in the house, I stay out of the attic in the morning. I make myself wait an hour if I want a cigaret, then try to push it further and further. I actually went 6 hours yesterday! Not bad. I am a pack a day smoker..horrible. But in the past week, I have cut it down to 1/2 pack. I stopped smoking in the car, when I take our dog for her afternoon walk in the woods, I leave the cigs in the house. Anything you can do to divert your attention form the cigs works. The longer you can go between smokes, the easier it will be to give them up. It is very hard to do, and I struggle daily. But seeing the progress over the past week gives me hope! Oh, I may turn into a rabbit before I am all done, cause I eat carrot sticks ALOT. I get my -oral fixation-.

Good luck....
What worked wonders for me were these toothpicks I got from the health food store!!! They are infused with tea tree oil. It really helps with the oral fixation!! The tea tree oil also freshens your breath wonderfully and has antiseptic properties! They are great, I swear by them!!!!!
Many kinds of products available.Know you can-t just cut back. As a reminder have actually put a small drop of
super glue between my index finger and the adjoining
finger - hard to ignore and easy to remove with finger nail
polish remover. Good luck.
I smoked 2 packs a day and quit with Chantix. My husband did also.
A relatively new prescription drug called Chantix.
When you smoke normally, the nictotine floods receptors which releases a chemical called Dopamine- this is what makes you feel so relaxed and rewarded when you smoke. Chantix adheres to these receptors, blocking the nicotine from reaching them, and therefore stopping the flow of Dopamine when you light up a ciggarette. Instead, you may even feel somewhat sick what you take a hit. Within a few months, you will not even WANT a ciggarette, it just won-t make you feel good.
No matter if you use a patches or pills, the best chance of success is some kind of support - be it a circle of friends or a literal support group. Having to -answer to- someone else can be a great motivator, plus it is good to have someone who can distract you when a craving hits.

Also, just as some additional information for you, my sister started Chantix yesterday. Most insurance plans (including hers) do not cover it and the cost was $260 for the first month. Still cheaper that the cost of cigarettes (not to mention the cost health-wise), but expensve, nonetheless.

i-ve been smoking black and milds for about 1 year and i wanna quit
You-re too beautiful to be smoking black and Milds. Even though they do smell really good.

I remember back in college, my girlfriend was such as horrible smoker. I mean she smoked like a chimney. I was the complete opposite I had quit 2 years prior. I tried to get her to quit cold turkey like I did, but she couldn-t do it. I guess not everyone can pull it off. I just really had to quit, cause of my line of work.

We tried the patch and that didn-t work and then we tried the gum. She really liked that and kinda got addicted to the gum, lol. Then we found this great program that really did help us. I mean she was off of it, I thought she was gonna relapse but she hasn-t smoked in 3years so, I guess it works.

Why is it recommended to drink lots of water when you quit smoking? -

Why is it recommended to drink lots of water when you quit smoking? -

Drink lots of water. This flushes the nicotine and other chemicals out of your system faster. It can help to keep your mouth busy.
I have to agree in part with Patti. Part of it is the Psychological effect that you are trying to eliminate. Your trying to get your brain away from the stimulus of bringing your hand to your mouth for that smoke. Thats what the intent of the patch is really about. By keeping you satisfied your mind sees that it doesn-t need to do that physical movement.

Plus water is good for you and helps take your mind off of smoking.
It helps rid the body of all the nicotine (- other impurities) which as you know, is a drug! Once the nicotine leaves your body, your skin, nails, - hair will be so much healthier, not to mention your lungs!!!
Water is always, always good for you. It flushes out your system and since, when you quit smoking you are releasing a lot of toxins and your body is ridding itself of alot of stuff, drinking water helps this process.

Drink as much water as possible. You should be drinking at least three large bottles of water a day.
Many toxins are eliminated through the urinary system, and it gives smokers another way to occupy their mouth and hands if they always have something to sip on.
Part of it is so you have something new to do with your mouth and hands.

Apart from eating. This can be a real reason that people gain weight when they quit smoking.
Why is it recommended to drink lots of water when you quit smoking? -

What has helped YOU quit smoking? -

What has helped YOU quit smoking? -

I keep trying to quit, but it doesn-t last long. What has helped you?
I used Wellbutrin and bubbles. The Wellbutrin (aka Zyban), being an antidepressant, made me feel better overall, but at night I noticed my heart racing, so I stopped taking it as soon as I felt it was -safe-. I recently read that lots of people are having great results with Chantix (Champix in Canada).

Also, when I needed to do something with my hands, I would blow bubbles. I held the bubble wand between my fingers like a cigarette, took a deep breath, held it a second (just like when smoking), then blew out slowly and watched the bubbles. My cat loved it, and after a few of those -fake drags- I-d feel good and lightheaded and wouldn-t want a cigarette anymore. :)

I quit in March of 2003 and haven-t had a single cigarette since then; however, I often have dreams where I smoke one cig, then suddenly realize I-m up to 2+ packs a day again (at my worst, I was smoking between 2 and 3 packs a day). Then I wake up and feel guilty. Even now, it-s hard to believe I haven-t cheated, but it-s true - I haven-t!

Good luck!
1. Make the decision to really quit smoking.
2. Quit cold-turkey.
3. Realize that everything else is an excuse to keep lighting up.
4. Understand that sofar you have never actually quit,
because quitting implies finality.
5. To achieve this goal, carry a couple of apples on you.
Then, each time you have a nicotine craving, take a bite
out of the apple. It is impossible to chew on the apple
and smoke a cigarette at the same time.
6. When you are not eating an apple, keep a pen or pencil
between the fingers with which you normally hold your
cigarettes.
7. Convince yourself that it is ludicrous to allow a burning pile
of tobacco leaves to take control of your brain.
8. Know that using the -patch- is just an excuse to keep
smoking at a reduced pace.
My Mom quit smoking about 24 years ago. She smoked over a pack a day. She got a real bad scare from the dentist who told her she needed to stop smoking. She used sunflower seeds to quit. Every time she wanted to smoke she would eat them. She ate them QUITE often. My Dad recently got diagnosed with bladder cancer and was told by his doctor that smoking does contribute to bladder cancer. He now has quit, but after 53 years of smoking it is really really hard. The sad fact is that most people are so addicted that they have a hard time quitting unless a doctor scares them into quitting. My husband smokes about 1 1/2 packs per day and I wonder if he will ever quit. He is 37 years old and coughs all the time and does not breathe well. He needs to quit too. I hope that you will realize that if you don-t quit smoking you quite possibly could end up with cancer yourself. I am really sorry to say that. I don-t wish that on anyone. Please quit now and you can start treating your body the way God wants you to, like the Temple. I also have a friend who quit smoking. She didn-t have any medical scares, she just really wanted to quit. Her method seems like it would work. She said she smoked a pack per day. Each day she would smoke only one less. Gradually, she got down to -0- cigarettes. She said she didn-t have any major withdrawals because she kind of weaned herself off of it. I wish you the best of luck in quitting. One thing also that you could try is asking God to take away your cravings. God does answer prayers. God Bless You.

~Kristen M~ That is so awesome! Good for you! That is a neat idea. I will have to pass that along to others!

~Timo~ You are not a freak. I-m sorry that this happened to you. Have you tried taking some speach therapy to help you? It would be worth a try. You mentioned people worse off than you still smoking. There was this one person that had a hole in their throat and had to talk with a little machine. This person would stick the cigarette up to the hole to still smoke. That is so sad.
I had half of my tounge removed from cancer i smoked since i was twelve now I am a freak I cant taste anything and I dont want to tell people why I talk funny,Lucky that stopped me I seen people worse than me still smoking...crazy.
Chantix. If that doesn-t work, try the Commit lozenges -- they-re just a safer way of getting nicotine (no cancer risk) and you can cut down on them gradually if you want.
i have a goal of something expensive i want to buy and each day i do not smoke i put my money i saved on cigs towards what i want to buy. it really adds up quick
stronger cigarettes helped me a lot

and i need some tips to quit smoking..

i dont want the patch, the gum or anything like that..

just some tips and/or ways you or someone you know quit right away.

PLEASSEE HELPP!
I know people who have quit cold turkey, so it can be done. Tell yourself that you will be prolonging your life, preventing premature aging of your skin, making yourself and your clothing smell better, possibly preventing fire or cigarette burns on things, preventing a raspy nasty cough, preventing cancer or emphysema, plus saving a great deal of money over time. You can use the money to do other things you like. Think about that.
I’ve been searching for some time for a list of stop smoking aids, and the pros and cons of using stop smoking herb which can quit smoking naturally. I’ve also noticed that many members of this forum have been asking the same question.

So, I’ve put my findings in a reviews which is free for you to visit at

im a smoker and I would really like to quit. I have not tried this myself but I knew someone who kept a pack with them at all times. every time they wanted a cigg, they would smell the pack and that was enough for them. again, I have not tried it so...
good luck!
I quit cold turkey. I will not lie to you, you will be a hard person to be around for awhile. I also kept gum and peppermints with me at all times, and something to keep in your hands to keep them busy. Good luck .

How should I quit smoking? I am male 55 and smoking since last 35 years, now almost 15 cigarettes a day.? -

I am male 55 and smoking since last 35 years, now almost 15 cigarettes a day. Yes i am adicted, no doubt about it ...
i am 5-4- with 200 lbs (overweight), have no sugar or blood pressure but have high colestrols and damaged my lungs
What should i do to quit smoking? i tried many a times but failed ... only a smoker can understand how difficult it is to quit, so expect some answer from people who already have quit smoking ...
I NEED YOUR HELP PLEASE ... don-t say -just quit- ... it does not work, as i don-t have that strong will power - nicotine is now in my blood
Try Chantix, it worked for me.
I smoked for 4 years (1980 - 1984) and, unlike my
then-fiancee, managed to quit while I was ahead.
The first thing I did was call-off my engagement to
Julie.
The rest was... not too easy the first time around.
But, if you tell yourself that you don-t have the -will
power,- then you-ll NEVER be able to quit--period;
no way.
I-d suggest trying that gum that has a nicotine-like
flavor to it: Nicorette, I believe it-s called. (That is
how I got myself to quit, 23 or so years ago.)
Good luck.
Talk with your Dr. Chantix - is the wonder pill. Be pre-paired though. Most insurance companies will not cover it and it runs about $130.00 per month. You will probable need about 3 months worth.

The alternative. First, count your blessings. No blood pressure problems or sugar.

Your other blessings is that you only smoke 15 cigarettes per day. My mother use to smoke 3 packs a day. Emphysema stopped that!

Here is the trick...you stop cold turkey and your brain says, -I NEED MORE NICOTINE GIMME GIMME GIMME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…

So why put your self through that? Let yourself have 15 cigs tomorrow and then the next day only 14 and then the next 13 then you might have to stay there for a couple days to a week until your body adjust and then go to 12 and so on and so on.

Quiting smoking is just like loosing weight. We always want to do it all at once...it doesn-t work that way. You didn-t smoke 15 cigs. your first time!

The bonus is if you have a partner to do it with you. If you do not then at lest find someone to whom you can be accountable to. If you have to give an account of your progress then you will strive for the better!!!

Best of luck!
I will keep you in my prayers!
look bro, there are many tips for quitting smoking...that web site mm..www.tvbrands.com.,,,its a web site of selling things there i saw one day a device which is used for quitting smoking...i don,t know how to use it but i saw people using it in tv also and they had said it really help them in leaving their habit of smoking,.it is also a cheap device...hope it will help..
i am the same and smoked sice 9 and only 15 i think i would try the patch.
Well, i recently did a report on smoking and here-s why its hard to quit.

When you don-t smoke your levels of Acetylcholine are higher than your bodies used too. So, when you smoke it seems to -relax- you but its actually just supressing the amount of Acetylcholine in your body. If you decide to quit the human brain takes 1-2 weeks to readjust the levels of Acetylcholine to its normal levels. Unfortunately, some Acetylcholine levels may have become permanent which makes it very hard to quit.

If i was you what you should do is get a bottle of tar, a picture of your family, and a picture of you before you began smoking. Now, whenever you want to smoke know that the bottle of tar is actually building up in your lungs. Think of your family because the smoke is going out of your lungs and into theirs. Then, look at the picture of you before you began smoking.

Hope this helps, and good luck ^.^
nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs there is. Those that say just stop don-t know what they are talking about. maybe some can but most can-t...............1st step though is you have to want to and I mean really want to.For me to want to I needed an excuse, any excuse not that I -just wanted to-. For Me it was a 6 hour car trip with my son who hates me smoking.......To quit I used a combination of the patch and zyban (generic name welbutren which is alot less expencive). the patch helped with the addiction and the zyban with the anxiety. I had trouble stopping in the past either cold turkey or even patch alone. The anxiety and that urge, not need,to smoke was blunted by the zyban. The combo worked for me. good luck..............
First off, I strongly recommend that you come up with a quit smoking plan WITH your doctor.
Please know that smoking IS the hardest addiction to quit, but millions do it everyday. It also takes an average of 7 tries until you are successful.
Try this web site... you will LOVE it! It helped me when I quit.
(just copy and paste it into a task bar)

Also, drink A LOT of water when you quit... carry around a water bottle. Helps to detox you and helps with the hand to mouth.

Dont quit qutting... you CAN do this! Good luck!
How should I quit smoking? I am male 55 and smoking since last 35 years, now almost 15 cigarettes a day.? -

Have any of you quit smoking? If so, how did you do it? I am not a smoker, but my father has been for over 35 years now.
20 year smoker...I-ve used the Commit lozenges (4mg) for 10 weeks now and have been going strong. I-ve used the patch before, but prefer the lozenges. They really help cut the edginess. I don-t consider myself totally -cured- of smoking, but this has been one of my best attempts so far. Good luck. Unfortunately, no aid will help him until he-s really ready to quit himself.
my father is a smoker too i hate smoking so i told my father about all the harms of smoking and i asked him to stop so he stoped immeddatly
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

Good Luck
I quit from two packs a day, -cold turkey-. Very hard to stay stopped. That was 22 years ago. We stop when we convince ourselves that we want not to smoke more than we want to smoke. Can-t have just one or even just a puff off someone else-s. If I don-t restart, I don-t have to stop again. Aerobic exercise and sitting in a steam room after wards helped greatly (local health club) I didn-t substitute something else for the smoking like candy or some food because then I-d have to stop that as well.

I am an ex-smoker, not a -reformed- smoker like some. I don-t try to make those around me quit but whenever I can I get away from those smoking. The smell has become repulsive.

I hear the patch has some success as does hypnotism but it is not magic, you must want to stop.

Good luck!
no but i am quiting on my b day in 2 weeks. i am going to try a prescription med called welbutrin xl i work for a Dr. and he suggest trying that it really helps with the craving and withdraw. but if your father doesn-t want to go that route than he needs to find something that will work for him. surveys showed that smokers who quit cold turkey with no help start smoking again with in 3 months. there are allot of great programs and information out there. go to www/quitsmoking.com or www.thegreatsmokeout.com hope this helps. and make sure you are there for him and support him, don-t be critical of him it is much harder to stop than people think. especially if you have been a Long term smoker.
My Dad quit smoking after being a smoker for 40+ years. A little over a year after he quit (and it was very hard for him) he died suddenly from an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Smoking is a contributory factor in AAA, but it was already too late. He was way too young to die,. It saddens me to know that he struggled daily with his desire to smoke for a year and then he died anyway. What a lousy way to spend your last days.
Hey, just I will just send my children to your Dad.... goodness knows they convinced me to give up! The cruelest ultimation, you or the fags!

The only way to give up is cold turkey, forget the patches, but do think of some alternative habit to cultivate like exercise or sport.

Anyone out there taking Chantix to quit smoking? -

How are you feeling? After finishing the pills for 3 mo. have there been cravings to smoke again?
I-m on my 2nd week. I quit on the 21st. Chantix is GREAT. I prepared myself to quit so I was ready to battle the cravings. Which is pretty much what I did every other time I tried to quit, and failed. But I-m making it this time. For real! I still crave a smoke, but it-s only my frist week, and I only crave one when I remember it, and it-s not as difficult to tell myself not to. It-s easier than I thought it would be. It makes the cravings so much less harsh. I even sat next to my dad smoking in a truck all weekend, and never cheated. It really works. The side effects (for me-weird dreams, nausea, and sewer-like gas :] ) are worth it!!!!!!

Can u give me at least 10 quot;quit smoking tipsquot; that i could paste on every wall in my house? -

Smoking started with my parents, all their 7 childrens smokes too including me...We all tried quitting and it happens every New years eve...but later on we sneak and hide in places where we cd smoke and in just 2 or 3 weeks, smoking is a normal scenario again.
Chew gum
eat twislers
you save 5 bux
use the 5 to eat
put a pen in ur mouth
go read a book
QUIT OR DIE.
Post it 10 times.
stop smoking thats one of the things that also causes GLOBAL WARMING!!! and u will die earlier then non smokers that are healthier and not many people wanna go out or kiss people that smoooke!!!
it turns your teeth yellow,it makes you stink,it ages you faster,you-ll save money for shopping, women who smoke do not look attractive doing it,you-ll live to see your grandchildren, you will lower your chances of talking through a voice simulator due to throat cancer, you will lower your chances of lung cancer, gum cancer, skin cancer on your face, heart dieses.your last words on your death bed wont be apologizing for choosing smokes over more time with loved ones.
I try to quit so many times... and I finally did after I start exercise and eat healthy...

I used to be a swimmer and triathlete when I was younger and pick up the habit of smoking when I go to college... and stop sports... so many times I promise my boy that I quit and end up smoking behind his back at work... I am not proud of it at all... and feel guilty everyday. At last, I decide to join a triathlon competition that encourage me to start doing sport...

Haha... I even smoke two days before the race... is crazy but I finished the race... and start doing sports again... that was about 3 months ago... one day I was out in the field for work and I bump a cigarette from a co-worker and it end up to feel nothing at all... I don-t even get that feeling of dizziness... so that really show me that I don-t need it and I am going towards a healthier life...

Good Luck... if you use to do sports... it will help to get back in it not just because is healthier but it will also help you stop smoking...
I hope my story will help you. I was smoker for 18 years, started in high school and quit at 36, so is my brother, started 18 and stopped at 42. He just got quit in one day, making this decision with healthy life and overprized cigarettes. It was hard. He ate a lot and got few more pounds. In case if you decide this way you can use some candies like lollipops instead of cigarettes.
My story was a little different. I am always wore about my weight and afraid of extra pounds. I stopped during 2 menthes, every day reducing amount of cigarettes. I promised myself to not buy more cigarettes (usually i bout about 5-8 cartons) and during last 2-3 weeks, i smoked 1 or 2 cigarettes per week. So, i prepared my body for no cigarettes life. In my opinion that is always hard to quit when other people smoking around but it is possible. I hope you can do it. It is taking some times because of some changes in you body but don’t be scare, it is just few menthes. Adrenalin secretion can give you some emotional problems like mood changes. I had this few times but it is not bad. The best thing on this, you are starting new life - healthy life. Instead of cigarettes smell, people around will fill good parfum smell from you. I found this better. I hope, if you start thinking about this, you will do it and i really wish you good lack.
My body is a temple

-I AM a nonsmoker-
I smell like a dirty ashtray
My house smells bad
I will get ugly wrinkles if i don-t quit
I am killing myself
1. I often forget to smoke
2. Cigarettes stink
3. I am too busy to smoke
4. I am a nonsmoker
5. I want to live a long healthy life

Negative messages tend to reinforce the smoking habit, rather than reduce it. The patches helped me and the gum for when I needed a little extra help. Be careful not to overdose on nicotine.

If you want to do it without patch or gum, then I would suggest drinking water in place of a cigarette and exercise. Do a short workout instead of smoking. It-s the same little 5 or 10 minute break, but much healthier.
Best of luck to you!
1. Find something else to do with your hands: musical instrument, crocheting, knitting.

2. Find something else to put in your mouth.

3. When you logon, check out sites that show that plump, pink, healthy lung compared to the black and shriveled up smoke-filled lung. Guess which one yours will look like when you die.

4. The patch.

5. Nicorette CQ.

6. Understand that cold turkey doesn-t work for everyone. If you sneak a smoke, don-t give up. Just jump back on the bandwagon. Maybe you can punish yourself with a 10-minute mile -- because you-re a smoker you may hack and cough a lot during that time.

7. Get a sponsor like alcoholics do. When you want to smoke, call your sponsor and maybe you two can do something together to get pass that urge.

Ok, I can-t think of 10, but hopefully those ideas will help. What helped my mother quit smoking was the massive heart attack.

You can do this! It-ll be hard, but you know you can do this. Paste a good affirmation to you bathroom mirror. That positive reinforcement may help. And you don-t have to quit smoking one big time. Try quitting everyday. You know, one-day-at-a-time.

Put this on your mirror.

-Today, I quit smoking. I-m proud of myself and my family is proud of me. And when someone asks if I want a cigarette, I will say -No thanks. I don-t smoke-. ---------- if they ask -since when?- you tell them big and proud -since now-.

YOU CAN DO IT!! YOU CAN!!
-Look at all of this money I am saving- !!!!!!
this website offers some great tips on how to quite smoking...I hope this helps you because this is a horrible habit that hopefully more and more people will learn to stop!

Anybody tried hypnosis or accupuncture as a way to quit smoking? -

Anybody tried hypnosis or accupuncture as a way to quit smoking? -

How much did it cost? I-ve tried the patches and gum but couldn-t hold out for more than a few weeks.
A friend of mine had hypnotherapy to help her quit smoking. She quit smoking for a few days because she couldn-t stand it, however, she soon realised that her hypnotic message was immune from menthol cigarettes. So she carried on smoking, only she smokes menthol cigggies only. So it worked and it didn-t. I haven-t met anybody who tried acupuncture for giving up smoking but I know that acupuncture is good for many problems (if the acupuncturist is good). A session may cost about £25. I think your best bet is to go cold turkey because I don-t believe in those replacement things (you-ll never give up and you always want the -real thing-). Go for a jog, have a cold shower, clean the house from top to bottom to occupy yourself while you are craving. Your cravings shouldn-t last for long (maybe few days) so you should be all right. Good luck!
Acupuncture works out to be expensive if you have been smoking for more than 3 years. 2 sessions a week @ £25/40 per session and then you have herbs to buy on top of that. Have you tried Zyban yet? It is available on prescription from your GP and you dont stop straight away but in the second week of taking them. It strips the nicotine from your body therefore removing the craving.
My friend had hypnosis and it stopped her instantly. Its been a couple of years and she still cant stand smoking.
A good friend of mine who smoked 40+ a day went for hypnosis. It wasn-t cheap (she wouldn-t tell me how much) but it did work.
Five years on and she still isn-t smoking.
(Incidentally she tried all sorts of other remedies before this)
My mother and grandmother had acupuncture 25yrs ago, my grandmother said it was brilliant and the acupuncturist helped her with many other problems too.

I don-t like the idea of a hypnotist though, having been put under on stage, it wasn-t a pleasant experience. plus I missed most of the party and the free bar!!
hypnosis cost me £150 and didn-t work, accupuncture cost me £25 a session for eight weeks and only worked as long as i was having it.
Yes, I-ve tried both and neither of them worked. This was quite a few years ago and cost me a fortune.

2 years ago I tried Zyban - only available from your GP, and it has side effects - and this stopped me instantly.
No I used nicotine gum I tried to stop for ten years and used the gum at least 25 times in the past five years. I haven-t had a smoke for 7 months now and I am confident I have done it this time. I am scared silly of ever smoking again.
THEY DONT WORK DONT WASTE YOUR TIME DONE IT
Stick a needle in your ciggy several times....the more holes the less satifying the drag....might help you quit!
Tried both. Good thing is two of the GPs at my local practise are qualified and the treatments cost me nothing. Good thing, -cos neither of them worked. Hypnosis worked instantly for my brother though. I think it depends on the person, and how much they WANT to give up.

Why is it so hard to quit smoking cigarettes? ? -

Why is it so hard to quit smoking cigarettes? ? -

you have my sympathy i to am addicted, for all the same reasons i want to quit you have to want to quit yourself and need will power, it is very hard good luck.
A) Habit,
B) Addiction
C) Addition to the habits

Its habit to do something and we keep on doing those things as they are ingrained in our being. Like scratching our heads when we are thinking, it-s a simple response to stimuli. The response is to make us feel better.
The addiction of nicotine causes our body to crave it. We then perform the habit to make the body feel better.
Because nicotine is addictive and for most people it is very hard to quit. If you only smoke a little bit it would be best to quit now. Any amount of smoking is bad for you.
you are addicted. there is medicine, patches, and gum

Should i quit smoking weed ciggs and drinking? -

ive been trying to deal with what life has dished out
and got screwed and dont know how to handel being sober

what should i do
well, i don-t think it-s possible to quit at once.

gradually, decrease your intake/use.

if you decrease gradually, over time, you need for it will be less, eventually to the point where you won-t feel dependent on it.
Weed and alcohol don-t fix the problems and they don-t help you deal - they just add more stuff to the pile you have to deal with already.

Everyone gets screwed in life, everyone has junk to deal with.
But weed and booze don-t help (believe me, been there and done that, finally got out).
Life is not always the way it-s supposed to be. It-s just the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference. Read information below to see what can happen if you don-t get your act together.
%0
weed, no.
drinking, no.
cigarettes, yes.
yeah you already have a lot on plate that false high just makes it worse you need to deal with your problems head on!
what do you think ? of course you should quit unless you want your health ruined.
Why not try cutting down slowly over time?

I have tried patches but my hands get bored, I tried going cold turkey but find it stressful, have tried self help books and cant afford hypnotherapy! Where can I get an incentive from?! please dont say get pregnant coz I don-t want kids!
THE EASIEST WAY IS OF COURSE EASYWAY!!

Easyway – Allen Carr.

Honestly it is the only way I have ever known to actually help people quite, stay quit and be damn happy about it...unfortunately most people think the idea of an easy way to quit smoking is nonsense as people think it needs to be hard…it really doesn-t.

This does exactly what it says, it is an easy way to stop smoking, and the way it works is essentially by de-programming the ingrained notions you have on smoking and quitting smoking so that it deals with the psychological problems of your smoking rather than the chemical. The chemical addiction is not the problem, you can go all night without being woken up by a craving, you will find sometimes you-re having so much fun you forget to have a cigarette, quitting smoking does not have serious withdrawal.

Socially we are taught that smoking needs to be difficult, we live now in a very anti-smoking society, rather than a pro-quitting society, where there is no real support for people to quit, it teaches non-smokers that smokers are idiots and smokers that they have to suffer when they quit – if you believe it is difficult, this makes quitting smoking difficult – you believe to quit smoking requires will power and that quitting smoking will be depriving yourself of something you like doing, when you do not really like doing it, nor are you depriving yourself of anything, you are actually gaining something by quitting smoking.

Problem with most methods is that they will either involve going cold-turkey or nicotine replacement. Cold-turkey is not only depriving yourself of smoking but it is also just dealing with the chemical addiction rather than dealing with the psychological, nicotine replacement isn-t depriving you however it is again only dealing with the chemical addiction, this is not the problem with smoking.

Allen Carr can explain this far better than I can, so let me just stick to telling you about Easyway – yes, it sounds gimmicky but it is the only way I have ever seen anyone quit smoking for good, and the only method to quit smoking that I have seen people happy with rather than being moody miserable and remaining under the impression that they need to fight the urge to smoke every day for the rest of their lives.

A book on Easyway from Amazon will set you back just £4, less than a pack of cigarettes, the book also offers money off their clinics – their clinics boast well over 90% success rate and give you a money-back guarantee – so that is just £4 you are spending for something that will help you quit smoking, be happy about quitting smoking and remain a non-smoker.

Not only that but you are allowed to carry on smoking while you are reading the book, in fact you are specifically told to carry on smoking while you read and the further you get into the book the less you want to smoke.

Check out the book reviews;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/01410…

You really don-t know unless you try it, I honestly recommend this to everyone I know, a lot of people are too scared to try it because they aren-t ready to quit yet, but all those who have read it agree it is fantastic and the only sensible way to go about quitting smoking.

for a complete explanation about the Trick To Quit Smoking
in my experience.... not me but a lot of friends at work at the moment latest trend it would seem) they have all tried patches, gum, inhaler etc etc. to no avail and end up smoking again. the ones that have succeeeded have gone cold turkey. chosen a day and done it. yes stressfull probably but get thru it. remember.. you can do it. you sleep for 8 hours a night without getting a craving!!!!
the same problem : )
it sounds like you need to visit a hospital or maybe you no some one with chronic enpozima. I use to smoke about 13 years ago but I had to take care of my mother in law and I watched her die of a slow death from smoking she died at the age of 52 I had taken care of her for 5 years before I saw her take her very last breath. After that I put them down she died with 1/4 if her lungs left. If that don-t wake you up nothing will. You have to have the want to the desire to stop not just words.
Years ago, a good friend of mine shared her success `story- with me; and because it was a good one; I-ll tell you what she said to me; she basically got some big bottles of Vitamin C (the chewable sort - orange or lemon flavoured) and every time she -got the urge- she popped on in her mouth and sucked on it. EVERY TIME. She said that not only did she successfully give up smoking; but the Vitamin C killed the urge to eat and so she had been able to do it WITHOUT gaining weight!
Good one, eh?? Hope this may be of some help to YOU in your efforts to do a very survival thing for yourself!!! Go for it.
shear will power that-s how I did it.
look at pictures of cancer-filled lungs etc.
hi i smoked for 30 years and know what it is like about the hands i used the new inhaler type of therapy which involves a thing you can inhale on with a nicotine capsule inside it. it worked for me after i got of the nicotine i continued to use an empty biro just to suck on and pretend to inhale on sounds daft but it worked! regards jet
use yr willpower, if muslims can stop during there holy month of Ramadhan(respectively - there fasting period), then why can-t we?
whenever you feel like smoking just do something else. drink juice or chew a gum. this way you-ll get rid of smoking...but this doesnt mean that now u become addicted to chewing gum or smthing...gud luck..
You have to have -will power-, if you truly want to quit smoking, without that, it-s almost hopeless. You can do it, I know you can. Good Luck.
you can get a object like a cigarette holder that you put a little capsule in ,this may help ,good luck and don`t give up trying
Quiting smoking is one of the hardest things to do. In order to stop smoking, you have to break the habits associated with smoking. If you smoke after you drink or eat, that-s a habit you-ve associated with smoking. You need to break that habit of wanting to smoke after eating, but that is much more difficult said than done. If you smoke socially, you might want to get away from the friends that smoke.
One thing that might help is to realize how bad smoking is to your health. Do a little research and see what all that tar and noxious chemicals do to your body, and it gets to be scary.
When you find out will you let me know? thanks !!
maybe you should just take these kind of pills that is what i did. no. i do not know what they are called
take medicine. my dad sells it and it helps. its chantix. also try something 2 keep ur hand busy like eating fat free chips
i smoked 1 1/2 -2 packs a day for 17 years. I stopped 2 years ago. I used the smokeaway product.
http://www.smokeaway.com/ It is a lot of pills but it really worked. You have to have the true desire to quit, it is not easy. at least check out this web site. good luck
p.s. let me know how it goes or if you need any support
if u find the answer tell us plzzz.
I think Cold Turkey is the best way, I have previously quit for one year and four months using that, but then used stress and exuse! Stress and cigs have nothing in common it doesnt make u feel more relaxed it just gives you the fix for your addiction.

I am going to attempt it this new year again, and what helped me last time was when I was getting very strong urges I would walk round the block once and when I got back in the house the craving was gone!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quit_Smokin…

you dont need anything but determination, its all in your mind, you been smoking to the point where you feel you need it to releive your stress but you dont need anything but god you are just used to smoking and its hard for you to break that habit. if people can quit smoking crack cold turkey you can quit, but it all depends on how much you are determined. cause its all in the mind, for example if you somewhere and you needed to take a puff but noticed a sign that said all smokers in this area will be fined $200.00 will you still smoke? course not but you see my point?! you have more control than you think! OK! GOOD LUCK SWEETIE!
Sex!!!
stop buying cigs.
Drink orange juice....it-s supposed to flush the nicotine out of your system faster. Try finding something to do with your hands, draw, knit, do crosswords...anything to keep your hands busy. Lollipops seem to help with the oral fixation part. Good luck!!
why dont you try puting a cigerette in a bottle wet it a bit and smell it when ever you get the urge or just try gum.

I have been smoking for 1 year since splited with my ex-gf. It was a pleasure but recently i found no pretty much feeling in it, just do it as a habit. What would u do? Would u quit?
What a ridiculous question.

If smoking had any health benefits, then it might be worth asking.

Do you really need me to answer this?
Its up to you I smoke and enjoy it very much I did quit once many years ago to save the money to put toward my new boat got the boat but did not start smoking again for about a year or so but started again
during a very boring fishing trip in the middle of the Straits of Dover but even after giving up for about 18 months it tasted so good and still dos
I will give up when I stop enjoying it ! But as I wrote earlier its your choice and health
yes.
its a discusting habbit, and you have no idea what its doing to ur insides.
can cause many many health problems... as u prob know.

try ur best to quit... your not gaining anything from smoking, except diseased lungs and respiratory tract system. so STOP!!! now!! if u can.

i don-t smoke, never had any interest and TBH find it a big big put off... but anyway!!

Do urself a favour and quit if u can, i know it-ll b a struggle, but the prices are only gonna increase anyway, n ur lungs are only gonna get worse and long term effects worse too... so stop...if not for the money u-ll save but your own health.

xxx

good luck!!
Of course you should, with today-s health risks your practically killing yourself for no reason.

Quit man, quit.

You can quit smoking in 38 minutes and 13 seconds!

Definitely quit if you-re no longer getting pleasure from it ... there-s no point keeping doing a bad habit just because it-s a habit.
Enjoyment would be the only reason to smoke.

How come I quit smoking so easily? -

How come I quit smoking so easily? -

I smoked from 16 to 30. On my 30th birthday I quit. I just stopped. I knew it was bad and that it was time. I don-t remember having any specific -craving- outside of actual motion of the habit. I missed the actual act of smoking, but felt no actual craving for the smoke or nicotine, as far as I can tell. I didn-t substitute it with anything. I-m just wondering is it possible for someone to be -wired- differently so that it is easier to quit. I actually quite enjoyed smoking, it gave me something to do with my hands. I see so many people having a hard time with quitting and I just tell them to decide not to smoke, don-t buy cigarettes and you won-t smoke. It was that simple for me. I-ve never been addicted to any other drugs, but I didn-t display traditional withdrawl symptoms. Any reason why? Smoke at least one pack a day.
It was SO easy for me to quit too. I just got to the end of the pack and stopped buying them. Now the smell makes me nausiated.

Congratulations!!!!!! Keep up the good work. Now it-ll be much easier to exercise and want to keep not smoking.
I honestly believe some people are genetically inclined to be more addicted to than others. Like alcohol. I quit 3 weeks ago, and the worst side effect hasn-t been the cravings. It has been disrupted sleep. I haven-t had a good nights sleep since I quit.
Great! I hadn-t smoked as long as you but i-d been smoking for about 5 years and I quit flat out too. I had tried in the past but had a hard time but this time I just blew it off my schedule. I started to realize that smoking is really effecting me negatively and I didn-t need it. One of the biggest things that helped me was staying away from other smokers where most of the time I smoked was because of others smoking. Stopped buying cigarettes and kept my mind preoccupied so I wouldn-t think about it. I can-t stand the smell of smoke now and I breathe and live so much better now! Plus I can start saving money.....
Congrats!!! You obviously have more than your share of will-power! Just count your lucky stars. We all handle cravings/addictions differently.
Be glad you are an exception to the rule and try to help better council other smokers.
CONGRATULATIONS! I understand what you went through. I quit several times and once it was soooooo easy, once it was sooooooooo hard and once (the final time) it was somewhere in the middle. The trick is you really have to want to quit. I-m smoke-free now for over 3 years. Good luck to you.
You-re one of the few and very fortunate people and congrats to you!!! It is hard, I have been trying for 7 yrs since I turned 30. I-ve tried cold turkey many times, the patch, the gum, Zyban, hypnosis, nothing has worked. This year I made a promise to myself and to my kids that this was it, the final year no matter how hard it is or how much I suffer. I want to be a non-smoker!!
I-m starting Chantix per my doc-s request. It has an overall 50% success rate so wish me luck!!

Again, congratulations on quitting and giving yourself your life back, free from the slavedom of nicotine =)
How come I quit smoking so easily? -
