How can I make my parents quit smoking???? -

My parents smoke a lot and i want them to quit.... HOW ????
There is this herbal supplement that is out that can help your parents quite smoking. I helped my grandfather quit smoking my giving him (Diet Herbs nicotine relief) it worked miracles because it took away his craving to smoke. My grandfather had been smoking for at least 40 years and he stopped so I know your parents can also.

Born kit Homeopathics also works very well and so does (Smoke Free) its a spray. You can find all of the things I mentioned at Whole Foods Market or at a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe.

Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!
Chances are your health will be affected by it too. They have to want to quit. Just knowing what it does to their bodies should be enough to quit. Maybe you could reach them that way.
All you can do is just keep telling them that you don-t like it and don-t want to see them ruin their lives and your-s (with 2nd hand smoke). I smoked for 24 years and quit -Cold Turkey- because my kids did not like it. Hopefully they will see your side and do it for you - themselves.
Make yourself a sign that says, -WHY ARE YOU KILLING ME?-,
and wear it around your neck.

It should make them stop and think what their smoking is doing to you. And if they say they will compromise and not smoke around you, tell them that the children of smokers are almost 100% likely to become smokers themselves.

If that doesn-t work, ask them if it-s okay for you to take drugs seeing as they are setting the example for you by taking the drug nicotine.

Good luck.
You can-t,they are adults.Try a prayer.
tell them it really worries you and you love them and want them to be healthy
Cut off their hands.
I had the same problem when I was a kid. I just constantly badgered them about it until they finally quit.
There-s 6570 good reasons... a year.

2 smokers:
3 packs a day,
6$ a pack
1 year
3 X 6$ X 365 = 6570 $
How sad. Nicotine is a very strongly addictive substance - the fact is that you can babble til you are blue in the face about the health risks - how much you love them - dont want them to get sick but they may never quit unless they really pu their minds to it. I really hope they dont smoke around you though. If they do I would focus on the dangers of secondhand smoke - insist that they keep you healthy even if they refuse to help themselves.
It would take alot of willpower that-s for sure.......Well all I can tell you is just say I care about you guys, and lung cancer is the #1 killer I want you guys to have a healthy life, and don-t want you to leave so soon.
sweetie you cannot make anyone do anything that they are not ready to do but if i were you i would talk to them about my concerns. it may or may not help the situation but at least you have voiced your concerns. i would also pray for them that GOD would take that habit away from them. i did that with my mom but unfortunately it didn-t work until she was diagnosed with cancer then she quit but it was too late. she died of cancer about 3 months after being diagnosed. good luck sweetie
You can-t make them quit. You can ask them. You can gather facts on how harmful smoking is and show it to them. Good luck!
You can-t make them do anything if they aren-t ready or willing. However, you can continually tell them your concerns for their and your health.
Leave pamphlets around the house. Invite them to look at a website about smoking risks or quitting. Just love and support them and encourage them.
NONE of the government warnings on cigarette packets even works... if it did then no one would be smoking... you need a different approach...

when you get in a conversation about smoking again, casually slip in the conversation that you would like to see BOTH of them at your wedding some day

Also you could suggest or even buy for them -The Easy Way to Stop Smoking- by Allen Carr (from amazon ~ $10) This book has helped millions of people to stop smoking

nicotine patches dont really work that well... great in the first week or so, not so great after a year. You cannot treat a nicotine addiction by prescribing more nicotine !

My sister and my hygenist have successfully quit (4+ years) after having hypnotherapy...

You could suggest to each of your parents to pay for the hypnotherapy for each other...

Can you help me quit smoking? -

I have been smoking for many years. It is a filthy disgusting habit. But it is an addiction. I-ve tried a few times to quit when I wasn-t really ready. I-m ready now but I want to know what has really worked permanently for others out there before I begin. I cannot cold turkey and I cannot do the gum. Thanks!
Well it sounds like your attitude is your biggest obstacle. You know it is nasty and you know you want to quit so now you have to convince yourself that you can quit.

It really is more of a mental battle than a physical one. Upon cessation nicotine remains in your body for only three days. Any physical effects you may feel after that are completly in your head. Then it becomes a pretty tough mental battle but it is very possible to win. My brother recently went cold turkey and after a month or two he is totaly past the hard part. He claims he doesn-t even think about it anymore.

It may sound silly but it is just a matter of wanting it, and simply NOT smoking. Your attitude as of now is that you can-t quit. You don-t think you can do it so you probably won-t. You need to realize that many many people have been where you are right now and many of them have made it through. Once you realize this than you really can quit.

You say you can-t go cold turkey because your brain doesn-t want to. Your brain has become so addicted to nicotine that it is convincing itself, and you, by any means necessary to continue smoking. It is called -protecting your addiction-. The same reason why people say -I-ll quit on new years, or, I-ll stop when I turn 30 or 40 etc..- It is total B.S. These are just ways to allow yourself to smoke. Why put off something so important? Cause they are truly addicts. A crack head will do anything for the next hit right? So what do you think the brain is capable of in order to get the next puff? It will decieve you and lie to you. And it is easy to be decieved cause after all it is your brain. This is where you must realize that your brain doesn-t know what is best. All it knows is that it is used to this drug and it wants you to continue supplying it. You have to step in and regulate. The brain will makes excuses and offer compromises like - When we drink I get to smoke, or, if we only smoke one a day then it won-t even matter-. Shut up brain your full of ****. The truth is that when you really do quit for good, these compromises won-t be necessary for either of you. You will look back and see it for what it really was. Just another excuse.

This is just one way of looking at it. However, I would be willing to bet that more people quit succsesfuly going cold trukey because they have finaly decided to really do it. There are no miracle drugs on the market that are more powerful than your sheer will. Now some things work for some people and you may have luck with those methods but why leave it to chance? If you decide to stop for good, and from this day forth never light another cigarette... well my friend that makes you a quitter.

Enjoy your new found freedom.

This may help you and it may not. There is really good info at the site listed below that WILL help you if you let it. Read up, get some support, it is just like any other addiction it helps to have someone to talk to in times of weakness. Whats a few months for the rest of your life?
You have the one thing it takes to stop...
The desire...
Keep at it ..its gets easier day by day..
Good luck...
well i did the cold turkey and thats how i quit. it killed me the first thee or four days and then it became easy.

so suck it up, and take the beating.
Well u just have to make urself do that cuz then it-ll never happen. try looking up some ads or look out for the commercials on t.v. and try what they say. be confident that u can do it and u will. good luck. try ur best and you-ll quit soon enough. =)
think of someone you love or a dream of yours. then next time you reach for one think of which is more important to you.

theres this guy i like who has major issues and i had a narcotic addiction a cutting problem and couldnt stop drinking alcohol and i realized i had to stop before i helped him. i have stopped completely. im 15 btw, so if i can do it so can you. theres always hope. be strong ?
um, we cant really help you on yahoo answers!
Try Nicopatch.
Find something to motivate you. For me, it-s money. I used to smoke two packs a week. So to start out I was only allowed a pack and a half, and then that was cut down to one and the saved $5 went into a jar. Over the next few months I kept cutting my intake until I didn-t smoke anymore. It was kind of hard the first couple weeks after fully quitting, but I-d saved so much money already that I used it to get myself little treats as a reward. That was over a year ago, and I still stick $10 in the fun jar every week.
Get a patch and wear it. If you want more proof...go to Yahoo, and click Images. Then enter Lung cancer in the search line. Look at them all. Then grow up, stub out the cancer stick and chew the gum. You do not want to die like this. But if that isn-t enough....try ruptured abdominal aneurysm, kills within 90 minutes as you bleed to death internally and they can-t save you, by the way, once it ruptures. Try emphysema, or try mouth and throat cancers...Get it now?
First, congratulate yourself on deciding to quit. I work in a hospital, and if you only knew how many people would be so much more healthy if they decided to quit smoking.

You might want to your doctor about this. He/she might be able to provide a lot more options that over the counter aids. However, you shouldn-t use more than one quit smoking aid at a time. Patches are a good idea. And they-re a lot less expensive than they used to be. Wal-Mart even has an equate brand. My mom tried these little suckers that had nicotine in them. She got them from a pharmacy. They help with the hand/mouth fixation bit. There are also lozenges you can suck on instead of chewing gum. The suckers didn-t work for my mom, but suprisingly, hypnotism did. I don-t believe much in it, but if you do, you could give it a shot.

There-s also a prescription your doctor can prescribe called Chantix. It works wonders.
Smoking related-diseases kill one in 10 adults globally, or cause four million deaths. By 2030, if current trends continue, smoking will kill one in six people.

Every eight seconds, someone dies from tobacco use.

Cigarettes cause more than one in five American deaths.

There is enough nicotine in four or five cigarettes to kill an average adult if ingested whole.

Ambergris, otherwise known as whale vomit is one of the hundreds of possible additives used in manufactured cigarettes.

If those facts/statistics aren-t enough to make you stop I don-t know what will. Smoking is absolutely horrible for you, and everyone around you.
I smoked for seven years and tried to quit about ten times before finally succeeding. When I finally stopped smoking, (twelve years ago) it was a combination of factors that allowed it to happen.

#1) I joined a gym, and started lifting weights and running at least three times a week WITHOUT FAIL. This was when I was still smoking. I noticed that the smoking interfered with my workouts and that the less I smoked, the better my workouts were.

#2) I asked a girl out who was a non-smoker. Wow, talk about motivation! I knew I had to put the brakes on or she-d probably end up going out with someone who didn-t have yellow teeth and smelled like an ashtray.

#3) Nicotine gum. (I know you said you couldn-t use the gum, I-m just telling you what worked for me.) Whenever possible, I went mad with the nicotine gum. If you miss a piece it doesn-t work! You have to be chewing it constantly for it to help you.

Six months later I was off the cigarettes and off the gum, the girl is now my wife and I-m benching 180. Wow! Thank god for cigarettes!!! \(^o^)/
Do it cold turkey BUT watch videos of people dieing of lung cancer. Go on you tube and type in -lung cancer- without the quotations and watch all the sad videos of people with lung cancer or kids with parents who are dieing of lung cancer. Maybe this will give you some motivation to quit, unless you want lung cancer.
I-m afraid that the best way really is cold turkey. The fact that you can-t do it, or say you can-t, suggests that you-re not really committed to stopping.
If you use gum or patches, you just substitute one source of nicotine for another and it will take forever.
When people hear that cold turkey stopping is very hard to do, they just seem to translate that into -impossible-, but it-s not. It-s just hard but very achievable if you-re brave.
sorry i dont know
No offense, but you are weak. If you want to quit, just quit.
It-s that simple. Try using sugar-free chewing gum to soothe your nerves and just simply don-t smoke.
It really is that simple, but you have to stop pitying yourself by
claiming you are helpless.
i read in a magazine that it is easier for female to TRY to quit smoking wen they are on their periods.
it hard, but possible, it-s all you, only you can decide to quit smoke

Is it true you have to watch what you eat after you quit smoking or you will Gain alot of weight? -

I recently quit smoking and I read something that said
if you don-t watch you eat after you quit smoking you
will gain ALOT of weight..

Is this True?
DUDE! I quit smoking on Monday of last week and quit nicotine in general four days ago. (I dipped and then used commit for a few days) This is my conclusion to that whole mystery. I can taste so much more flavor in food than I could a week ago. Everyday food taste better, maybe because I-m eating something different everyday but it-s absolutely mind-boggling delicious. It-s because food tastes better, I work out when I get stressed out or want a cigarette not eat. I have lost weight because I-m satisfied with what I-m eating instead of relying on instant gratification since I looked forward to buzzes since the first thing I did in the morning was get a buzz.

Don-t let your mind play games with you, take a firm stance and tell your mind what-s going to happen.
I taught smoking cessation for years - and I can tell you that about forty percent of those who succeed in quitting do gain around twenty pounds. Another twenty percent actually lose weight, while the other forty percent don-t fluctuate more than a couple pounds from their weight before they quit.
The important thing to remember is that you-d have to gain a hundred pounds or more to offset the benefits of quitting smoking. And even the weight gainers can often lose the extra weight once they-re over the struggle to quit smoking.
Yes. Its easy to gain weight after you quit smoking. People get more fidgety and find a substitute like food. Also, your metabolism slows down a bit because the chemicals in cigs speed up your metabolism. But most of all, when you quit smoking, your taste - smell becomes much stronger. So food tastes and smells much better so you tend to get more hungry and it plays on your cravings.
True True True.

Many people that stop smoking gain a lot of weight afterwards. Some people don-t though. Just be careful - watch what you eat, and by all means...do not start smoking again just to keep the weight off. Keep up the good work and try to excersize at least 30 minutes a day, 3-4x a week. Or start taking walks on a regular basis. The same time that you took out before to take that smoke break; 10-15 minutes, replace it with a quick jog, run, walk excersize of some sort and you-ll be just fine. Don-t forget lots of water and keeping your sugar intake low. A little goes a long way, you can do it!! : )
It is true that you can gain weight, but only in that people who smoke tend to replace that habit with another one. Eating more than before, after quitting, is a common problem for many people. My recommendation would be to try to replace that habit with chewing a no-calorie gum.
Many people smoke because it suppresses your appetite. When a person stops smoking they aren-t used to the feeling of feeling hungry more often, so yes...you-ll need to pay more attention to what and how much you are eating.
yes and no im trying to quit now its not that it goes to your gut faster its just that eating will sub smoking. so just watch how much you eat. even if you do gain weight you will be able to excerise without hacking up a lung
when you quit smoking you just eat more because you need to do something to keep your mind off smoking and some people just eat, so you only have to watch out what you eat if eating becomes your new vice
The only reason people gain weight after they quit is because they are fidgety and need the hand to mouth motion to satisfy the habit they-ve created.
It-s because when someone is quitting smoking and gets a craving, they will often eat something instead. Quitting smoking won-t make you gain weight if you eat exactly the same as you did before.
It-s mainly because food tastes a lot better without the cigarette taste in your mouth and the niccotine is no longer curbing your appetite.

Does being hypnotized to quit smoking really work? -

Does being hypnotized to quit smoking really work? What about being hypnotized to lose weight? Can you tell me your personal experience? Are you still smoke-free? What goes on in such a session? Is it just a scam?
Hypnotism really works, but only if you really want to quit. The way hypnotism works is to put strong suggestions into your subconscious mind. When you are under hypnosis, you are aware of what is going on around you and what the hypnotist is saying to you, but you are listening with your subconscious mind, not your conscious mind.

I have personally been involved in 3 different people that have been greatly helped with hypnosis. One was able to eliminate their craving for chocolate. She was able to eat it and enjoy it, but not have the craving-s for it that she used to. I knew a man that quit smoking because he really wanted to quit and the hypnosis definitely helped him because before the hypnosis, nothing else worked.

Another person lost weight and now prefers good food over junk food. This took 5 sessions to perfect. Diets now really work for her and she is more dedicated to eating right.

good luck to you
Ive heard both, its all about your state of mind. Being hypnotized isn-t a miracle cure. If you want it to work it will...For smoking I recently went to the doc and got a script of -Chantix- , so far I-m smoke free for 3 weeks. Although I still have cravings a couple of times a day..it-s not terrible.. I just think about something else and in 10 secs theyre gone..
hypnotism is the most powerful way to quit smoking...but you have to find a good hypnotist and that can be a little expensive..it is powerfull for weight loss too...
It worked for me for about 2 months (to quit smoking). It was more of a brain washing thing than being hypnotized since I remembered everything that went on. I finally quit by wearing the patch for 3 months.
It did not work for me, but it did for my friend, who is still smoke-free five years later.
Can-t wait for these answers. Always wondered, too.
i don-t know about being hypnotized...but, my grandpa quit smoking after he got acupuncutred
Yes it-s just a scam. Hypnotism is for magician shows, nothing else. Using nicotene gum and a support program is more effective.
It helps some people, for the short term, but it still takes individual will power, or rather, won-t power, to stay off the smokes.

If it totally worked as effortlessly as some hypnosis centers would have you believe, nobody-d smoke (or be overweight).
I work in a hotel, where we had this seminar to get hypnotized to quit smoking, and lose weight.

They were in there for HOURS... had a break.

What-s the first thing they all did?

Wen-t outside to have a smoke.

Scam, honey.
Hypnotism only works if you believe it is going to work.
I-ve heard of people doing it and having it work and other not having it work. Make sure they have a money back guarantee if it doesn-t work for you.
my sister did the hypnotzes thing to stop smoking, well that only lasted about 6 months to a year shes back to smoking.

Help. Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

My goal is too quit smoking in a month ( less than if possible) and I just don-t know how to achieve it ;-(
First I say stop buying them. Second, I say drink Zija. Ive heard that its done some good. Zija is a 100% natural dierty supplement. Third, I say write your goal down where you can see it everyday and remind you of your reason for quitting. Whether it is quitting so that your kids ( if you have any) dont have to live without a parents bc of smoking.

jaysoncurtisswain@yahoo.com
Smoking is a hard addiction to kick and you have to be commited to yourself that you want to stop. I quit cold turkey. Before I did, I read everything I could get my hands on about nicotine withdrawal and support. I-ll admit it was not easy, and I had days I felt like the cravings would never end. One day became 5, 5 days became 5 weeks, then 6 months, now I-m 1 year and 4 months since I quit. Look into the many options out there available to assist in quitting smoking, find the one that looks like it can work for you. Good luck!!!
I used Chantix. I havent had a smoke in 3 months today!
It takes away enough of the craving to make it possible to say no. You still have cravings and unless you WANT to quit you are not going to. GOOD LUCK and be strong!!!

I want to quit smoking... can i just do marijuana instead? -

ive been smoking since i was 15, i did marijuana for like 11 times already for the past 2 months... i wanna quit smoking!help!
ok...I quit smoking on Jan 20th of this year...Its all in your head. I am 29 and started smoking when I was 14. You just have to make up your mind that you are never going to smoke again no matter what. Don-t give yourself a choice, in your head, you have to convince yourself that smoking is no longer an option. I promise you will get used to it. I feel so much better, I cant even explain it. I had forgotten what it felt like to actually breath a deep breath into my lungs. Feels good! Its all about what your telling yourself. Prepair yourself for what is going to happen. You have to know what to expect. You WILL try to reason with yourself. You will tell yourself that it is ok to have just one, just this one time, its ok, you can handle it. NO you can-t...it is the addiction, just know that this will happen and be prepaired to tell yourself no. Don-t start smokin pot instead...Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. and no matter what anybody else says...mental addiction is more powerful than physical addiction, so...just cause weed isn-t physically addicting don- t mean nothin. Just give it up all together...you can do it.

Good Luck...
that it-s better for you is not what I-ve heard, I can remember hearing on a tv program that marajuana is much more toxic, and smoking one joint is like several cigarettes. By all means research this. Look up the American cancer societies website for good tips and possible support for quitting. Your local hospital may have groups as well. Get to know yourself, when do you usually crave a cigarette? Can you avoid those situations, or have an alternative activity planned? Be patient with yourself, some people can just go cold turkey, others may try dozens of times before the change sticks, just DON-T give up.
smoking is smoking. no matter what the substance. if you INHALE it, that is carbon monoxide into your lungs. there is just as much harm from cigarette SMOKE as there is Pot SMOKE....
Oh yeah there-s a smart idea buddy...take up smoking weed to quit smoking cigarettes...then maybe when you want to quit weed...you can start smoking crack...or maybe shoot some heroin...

**idiot**
Are you smoking the mj? If you are then you are still smoking. Try switching to a REALLY nasty brand of cigarette for a while to aid you in quitting. That is what I did, two years ago and have not smoked since. Good Luck
i know it is difficult to quit smoking. find an altenative. like always eat candy. your mouth would be busy. in that way, you may forget smoking.
If marijuana will help you quit tobacco, go for it. It takes an average of 7 tries to quit, so do everything you can. Marijuana is considerably better for you health-wise and is not physically addictive, so you should be able to stop it whenever you want.
I want to quit smoking... can i just do marijuana instead? -

What do you Suggest doing to quit smoking? -

A few years ago, I was smoking enough to the point of coughing up blood every now and then. That did it for me.
Just think about the disease it can cause (google a pic of a cancerous lung), having ashtray breath and yellow teeth, spending money on something that-s basically killing you slowly.
Hope that helps.
Acupuncture may be something for you to consider as an alternative treatment method that can deal with both the physical and the emotional effects of nicotine addiction whenever you quit. Acupuncture may seem like a strange alternative treatment option, but it actually works for many people. There are a lot of smokers who have tried many other methods unsuccessfully and find that acupuncture is the only method that will work in aiding them to quit smoking successfully with ease and finality.
I stayed mostly in bed as much as I could for a week. I figured I had a type of sickness so I-d act like it. That helped a lot. Took away the temptation and I was not fun to be around anyway. After that, if I were out driving and had an urge to buy cigarettes, I-d go into a drug store. walk around the inside of the store and leave and drive away. It was just long enough to get past the urge. I once heard on the news about a man who quit smoking by chaining himself to his sofa for a month!
try not buying them!
