Iquot;m trying to quit smoking Iquot;m in need of help? -

I-m trying to quit smoking I-m in need of help I-m on the patch but the need to smoke is still there anything you know that might help
Hey Chris,

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there with zero success.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
Eventually a friend told me about a NLP method, check out this article:
http://www.squidoo.com/Not_Smoking_Any_M…

It’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!
J.
Hey Chris..

congratulations on your decision to quit.. a lot of folks have used various forms of nicotine replacement thereapy.. (ie patches, inhalers, gum ect)..many succesfully.. theres really no wrong way to quit!!! not sure how bad a craving your having, on what dosage patch your using.. so really cant advise..

i would like to share with you that i am a former smoker who has acheived smobriety (ie abstinance) through the nicotine anonymous program.. face to face meetings are held in many larger citys, and many are available on the internet.. participation in both venues, has been the key for my success.. you are welcome in meetings smoking or not..

good luck with your quit!!.. and dont quit quitting!!

I have been smoking since about september and I really would like to quit for my mom. She has known many people with lung cousin and a close family friend has very very serious throat cancer because of smoking and I know it really upsets her to see me smoking. I frequently smoke a lot when I drink and also all my close friends smoke so being with them is like having the temptation in my face. Are there anyways that have really worked to help you quit ?
Well, all i can say is this...Just tell yourself no. It-s funny because I JUST started smoking in February of 08 and I-m 29. It-s hard for me cuz like you said, I-m around smokers all the time. Basically, I get the urger for one, especially when I-m drinking, but I also feel it-s such a disgusting habit...Just tell yourself no and let your friends know you are quitting and if you ask them for one, no matter what, they should tell you no.

I often think about cigarettes all the time, but I know if i go smoke, it will stop my progress even if its- only been 5 days and although I say, -hey, it-s just 1 or 2,- I-m stil disappointed in myself.
I smoked for 27 yrs-about 1 - 1/2 packs a day. I quit -cold turkey- a little over 6 yrs ago,I did it for ME,not because somebody else bitched or lectured about it. I bought my very first brand new car and used the money I was spending on smokes for the monthly payments and kept telling myself that if I went back to smoking I-d have to give up my car,couldn-t afford both. I loved my new car and I love me,so I stayed off of them. Good luck.
I lost my mom to lung cancer back in 96-, she died a miserable death from years of smoking; Imagine having to breathe through a small straw that-s what it felt like to her. I miss her so much and my life has never been the same since. Please do not put yourself or your family through this pain. This is the best advice I can give you.... Good luck and God Bless.
the patch
I was one of those I-ll-quit-smoking-when-they-pull-the-pac… kind of smokers. Loved everything about it. Totally in denial of what it was doing to me.

After years of badgering from spouse, doctor, strangers on the street - - I finally asked Dr. about help to quit. He prescribed Zyban.

Now, mind you, I was only half-a$$ed trying to quit. I thought I-d try the pills, then go back to smoking, swearing the drug didn-t work.

Much to my surprise and chagrin, the drugs worked -- within DAYS! I just stopped liking the taste. Well, that-s not true. The truth is they had no taste at all anymore. After 22+ years of up to 2 packs-a-day, I quit smoking in about a week.

Now, the habits are another thing . . . but once you kill the ENJOYMENT of the cigarettes, and the cravings, the habits are easy to give up.

I-m 10 years smoke free, and it was the greatest thing I-ve ever done for myself.

When you do quit - - should you ever think about going back - - just make a list of all the good things that have happened since you quit, like being able to walk up stairs without wheezing, or being able to spend a couple of extra $$s on yourself that you used to - - literally - - burn through.

I wish you the very best of luck.

Should i quit smoking weed forever? -

I love smoking pot, but it ***** with me more now then when i was in high school, i never used to get paranoid or angry when i smoked back in the day but now i find taht i am very paranoid and almost depressed when i smoke, its like i cant control it anymore. when i was a teen i remember it feeling so good with no paranoia or depression wtf is up with that?
If you think you can kick the habit and you are aware of problems that the weed is causing then DO IT!!! Smash that bong Brother!!! Time to get high on life my man!! Step outside your box and have a crack at the world, your just as good as anybody else! If you don-t like what you find you can always come back. You will always be welcome, just don-t come empty handed!! LOL.... Good Luck Bud!
Same thing happened with me 4 months ago. But mine i think was triggered by a medication i began taking the day before i ever had a problem with it before. I quit the medication because it interrupted my daily life horribly, (not just smoking) but I still had panic attacks whenever I smoked after I stopped. So I think now my smoking-related panic attacks are psychosomatic and I don-t think there-s anything I can do about it. So eventually I gave it up for good. Sadly lol.
I read that pot has been linked to dementia and Alzheimer-s.

Those -children of the 60s- thought it was just fun like many
today. But the medical community has proven that false.
If it-s no good anymore there-s no reason to smoke it.
YES!
it sounds like you already answered your own question
it happens to some people.

I am 24 male, quit smoking 6 days ago, resting heart rate dropped from around 80 to 60, should I worry? -

I-m overweight but I am very active at work, I don-t get dizzy, I have good energy, I-m just worried that 60 is too low, it goes up to 70-75 walking around, goes up fine with exercise, tell me I-m ok!! Lol
You are fine. It is normal for your heart rate to drop when you stop smoking since your arteries are no longer constricted and your heart doesn-t have to work so hard. 60-100 is the normal heart rate so you are just fine. Congrats on giving up the smokes.
Anything between 60-100 is fine. Smoking constricts your vessels, causing the heart to pump harder and faster to get the blood through your body. Since you-ve stopped smoking, your vessels are open wider and the heart doesn-t have to work as hard or fast to get the blood through your body. You-re fine! This is normal. Good job on quitting smoking..congrats!
some people say eating more salt helps raise your heart rate...

but good for you for quitting smoking... try yoga classes, bikram is really good for you if there is a studio near you.

I think you will be fine...
besides a little anxiety and hypochondriac you are fine. perfectly normal.
I think your ok , smoking that probably help stay away from salt continue to exercise you are on the right track

If you quit smoking after many many years will your lungs crystallize? -

I quit after 30 years of smoking and 4 years after I quit I came down with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. I was told by my pulmonologist that the thing wasn-t that I quit, it was how much I smoked and for how long. I also thought after so many years my lungs would be allot better along with my breathing and general health, but was so disappointed when this happened. BTW- your lungs don-t crystallize, they calcify and can get scar tissue, all affecting the way you breathe. I really do wish the rest of the people that quit this doesn-t happen to, but ask your doctor for a chest x-ray the next time you go to get a base-line reading so that you have one that the doctors can compare it to. Good luck and God Bless
No, your lungs will never crystallize. If you mean will they ever be crystal clear or pristine than the answer is still no. They will improve to the point that you wouldn-t know you ever smoked but there are factors to take into consideration here. How much you smoked and how long you smoked has a lot to do with it.
Anyone is much better off quitting. You will notice a difference very quickly. God bless.
I sincerely hope never. I imagine crystallized lungs would be impossible to breath with. I am glad to say that I quit smoking about seven years ago after a lifetime of addiction and mine have not crystallized yet.
Crystallize?
What will happen is your lungs will actually reverse themselves. If you never had a cough before while smoking, you may have one now as your lungs clean out.

Has anyone tried NicRX, Chantix, or NicoCure in order to quit smoking? -

Has anyone tried NicRX, Chantix, or NicoCure in order to quit smoking? -

I-m looking for something for my mother, she took Chantix for about 2 months and was doing pretty well on it but she did still have a few cigarrets each month....maybe 10-15/month. I know its not going to happen over night but she stopped taking it and now shes back to her regular 1-1.5 packs/week.... I was wondering if there was anything better out there than Chantix.
As a respiratory therapist I have been involved in smoking cessation for over 20 years. Different things work for different people. The main ingredient required is a sincere desire to quit. If Chantix was working for your mom and she quit using it, I have to conclude that she still wants to smoke, especially because it is safe to still smoke while on it. Unfortunately, there are no magic wands out there for this addiction, which has higher recidivism than heroin and crack combined. Have a heart to heart with your mom, let her know how you feel and encourage her to keep trying. Best of luck.
I-m so glad-she is lucky to have a daughter who cares so much.

My wife quit easy with champiks and the use of a book that for the life of me i cant remember the name. I quit with just this book and nothing else. I chewed snuff for years, i was in grade 5 and i am now 39. i have been addiction free for 1 year 4 months. i just phoned my wife book is Allan Carr-s easy way to quit smoking. It explains how you were brainwashed to like smoking in the first place. I absolutely recommend trying this book. wish her the best
I have tried chantix and so have three of my employees and two aunts ....myself included have all quit smoking. Its expensive and you have to follow the plan but it can work. The real key is you the smoker being ready to quit. My driver quit after only one week on chantix ...I took a few weeks and my aunts both quit after two weeks . Most of us have now picked up a chewing gum habit but its better then smoking.
everyone i know tried chantix and have ALL failed. I believe its just a mind set. I smoked for years about a pack a day..when i got pregnant i just quit!! havent smoked for over 4 years. she will quit on her own if and when she is ready. but keep up the encouragement tell her you want her around for a long time!!

What kind of changed in appearance can I expect from quitting smoking? -

I-ve finally decided to quit smoking to bettter my health, I was just curious if there was going to be any changes in appearance from quitting? Like weight gain, dark circles under the eyes going away anything like that ?
As soon as you stop smoking, your body will begin to repair itself. While your body is working to get rid of the nicotine, you may experience some or all of the effects of nicotine withdrawal. They include

* changes in mood
* changes in sleeping patterns
* changes in eating habits
* craving for nicotine

Other symptoms may include

* itchy hands or feet
* constipation, gas or stomach pains
* coughing or dry mouth
* dizziness or headaches

Each smoker is different and not everyone experiences the same number and intensity of withdrawal symptoms. Some people don’t have any withdrawal symptoms. Others have symptoms that can range from mildly uncomfortable to very uncomfortable.
How long do withdrawal symptoms last?

Withdrawal symptoms are temporary. They peak within one to two days after you quit and usually only last about a week (although they can last up to four weeks). If you feel you have a strong physical addiction to nicotine, talk to your doctor. Your doctor may recommend that you use a nicotine replacement therapy or a smoking cessation pill to help ease your withdrawal symptoms.

The good news is that withdrawal symptoms are actually signs that your body is on its way to recovering from the effects of nicotine. As soon as you quit, good things start to happen to your body.

LOWER BLOOD PRESSURE Twenty minutes after quitting, your blood pressure drops to your pre-cigarette level.

MORE OXYGEN Eight hours after quitting, the carbon monoxide in your blood drops, and the oxygen level in your blood increases to a normal level.

HEALTHIER HEART Within 24 hours after quitting, your chance of having a heart attack decreases.

WARMER FEET AND HANDS Within two weeks to three months of quitting, your blood circulation improves. In the weeks and months to come, your body will continue to recover. In the meantime, here are some tips to help you cope with nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

CHANGES IN MOOD You may experience irritability, nervousness, anxiety, restlessness, or feeling down or depressed. When you reduce your nicotine level by quitting smoking, you may experience mood changes while your brain adjusts to being nicotine-free.
Yes weight gain is definitely associated with quitting smoking. This is because when you stop smoking, you tend to eat more and then your metabolic process is affected. Not to worry though as you can easily remedy this with proper exercise. Exercise is also a good remedy to relieve stress when you are quitting. Drink plenty of water too.
First of all understand that you are not quitting smoking for changing your appearance. You quit it for better health. And even if there are going to be any changes in your appearance, rest assured that it will be for good only.

It is not quite possible to predict what sort of changes may take place. Logically I can say all that which is there because of smoking will go away. For example, if your dark circles are in any way because of smoking then they should go away.

Have a good life.

Honestly, probably not much except whiter teeth. You can not do something for a long period of time, quit, then expect everything to go back to normal. The damage is done...but quitting will stop it from getting any worse.

engage in other activities when you feel like smoking ..slowly you will stop smoking.
If you are having difficulties after you try nicorette, the patch or even zyban (not my favorite) go to you doctor and get a script for
Chantix--it has no nicotine in it and it actually blocks the nicotine receptors. Check out this site for more info www.pfizer.com,
and type in or locate info on Chanitx. Worked for me and no cravings!!!! Good Luck
when you feal like you need a light try chewing gum or doing activities, this worked for me
All of the above are really good suggestions. Hard candy works as well and you might try chromium picolinate for the cravings too. Don-t exceed the recommended dose.
Encorage yourself not to smoke. It-s a bad thing and can cause lung cancer which is the most dangerous cancer . Go to this site to quit smoking: http://www.anti-smoking.org/quitting.htm
Keep something that you like eating and that is chewy [like gum or peppermint] ... with you.... always...then every time you feel the urge to smoke, pop one inside your mouth and go on chewing....that way even your gums will become strong and you will soon quit smoking! Believe me it-s easy!

Best Of Luk
Join a club, Smokers Anonymous, patch, gum, cold turkey (must difficult) hypnosis, acupuncture. Good luck
motivate yourself, smoking doesnt only affect yourself but also others.. think bout cancer *seriously* your body is ok NOW, but later on it will affect u n people around you..

try nicorette, its a kind of drug that u take wen u feel like smoking, it will handle your addiction.. without smoking a cigarette
Zyban tablets. They do it for you, but you need a script from the doc. They absolutely work. Good luck
Dont keep money with you put everything in the bank or give it to someone for safe keeping
There is no glorified reply to this but you can quit by simply stop buying the cigars and stop smoking
