How can i get a hold of some dopamine? literly i need some alternate of this since i quit smoking? -

Heh

You can-t take dopamine itself because it doesn-t cross the blood/brain barrier. People with Parkinson-s Disease take l-dopa to increase dopamine levels, but I don-t think you-d want to do that!

Any pleasurable activity or drug causes the brain to release dopamine where you want it, but the drugs will merely postpone your withdrawal or deepen your addiction and many of them are worse for you than smoking.

So I-d say just ride it out until your brain gets back into balance. If you can-t, get some nicotine lozenges, they-ll ameliorate withdrawal at the cost of stretching it out. Or you can just use them forever -- they contain nicotine so they give you a buzz but they don-t cause cancer. Or get a prescription for Zyban (Wellbutrin), an anti-smoking pill and antidepressant that works as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor. It increases the amount of dopamine in your reward pathways, but it can have some serious side effects.

Help, I want to quit smoking? -

I added up that my husband and I spend on average $160 a month on cigarettes and that-s only if he smokes one pack a day and usually he smokes 2 to 2 1/2 packs a day. I have three toddlers at home and I stay at home full time, I am so very stressed out but I want to quit. Please anyone with ideas or suggestions or who has gone through this and quit successfully, I would greatly appreciate words of encouragement and/or support that has help u through this.
Contact the American Cancer Society; your local hospital; American Lung Association; or any advertised Quit group. I quit cold turkey 25 years ago, and have led Quit groups. Talk with your family doctor, as he can give you a prescription for the patch, lozenges, or Wellbutrin. You are lucky that there are so many Quit aids available. You MUST declare your home a smoke free zone because of the 3 children. If you Must have a cigarette, go outside. Pick a quit date within the next 2 weeks, and get ready to be free of the habit. When you want a cigarette, take several deep breaths, take a quick walk around the block, drink 1-2 full glasses of water, or retreat to a quiet place and use relaxation methods for just a few minutes. Don-t worry about your husband-s habit--take care of yourself. It can be done, and MUST be a priority for you. Good Luck....
d magic word?

-nicotine patches-

go get them.........

n- best of luck!!!!!!
Love yourself!
Smoking is self-destruction, self-punishment, and any other self-inflicted damage.
You know well smoking destroys your health a puff at a time; using -stupid logic (obvious facts)- ; every puff punishes you for your or your loved ones- mistakes, remorses, failures, frustrations, and so on. Doesn-t it feel good and relief to be punished for your bad actions, get rid of that load in your concience, and feel that you pay for your mistakes (-- sins? --)?
Nicotine is poisonous for may species (e.g., insects, fungi, etc.) and addictive to humans; but it is as addictive as it is food, work, exercise, video games, pain killers and anything that makes you feel good, relief, successful and so on.
Learn to really love yourself, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF and you will see life worth of living for and also you will enjoy even more all of your efforts (failures and successes)and the processes (time period) you put your efforts to.
Once you learn to love yourself, you will love even more the ones you love and teach them to learn to love themselves.
The rest of your life is yours to live happily. Cure your mind (heart) and you can cure your body a lot easier.
Do you remember: -do unto others...-?
Can you love others if you don-t know how to love yourself?
The addiction to smoking is all in your head. Your kids and finances are the main priority in your life right now so tell ure head to shut the @$%@ up when u think about smoking and move on. Trust me its simple.
Try buying the nicotine patch, gum, or any other products you can discover. No, I have never smoked in my life, but I know people who have and desperatley want to quit. If you get stressed out and feel like you need a ciggarette, try taking out your stress on other things, like taking a nap, taking a bath, relaxing. Think about your future, and your kid-s health and well being to keep you motivated. Don-t give up, it will be worth the work!
Everytime you pull out a cigarette, before it reaches your lips, think of your kids having to inhale your second hand smoke which is more harmful.

Cold turkey for a couple of weeks using the above method and you should be off the urge.
Your husband should do the same else with the box of ciagarettes lying around the house, it makes it easier for you to pick up one and more difficult to fight the temptation.
there could be any number of people here who had -successfully - done it any number of times. seriously , I am not a smoker.
I think one way is to slowly reduce the number of cigarettes you smoke daily.
reduce the quantity. another way to do this is by limiting the inhalations per cigarette. ( cheap trick , but it might work. like take 2 inhalations , put out the thing and keep it for later ? only at your home and in private. eh?)
try the usual things first, patches, gum etc,try to move the addiction (eg coffee) if you are in the Uk i know for a fact there are licenced people who can hyptize you in to not wanting to after just one session. good luck -x-
If alternative methods do not work for you,try cutting back little by little. I stopped by getting away from others that smoked at work. I chewed gum when the urged came. I smoked 2 packs a day down to 1 pack a week. I sometimes stop for weeks, but stress at work sometimes gets me going.
Try and stop for your children, think of the future of their health. If that doesn-t stop you nothing will.
I can help you with this i think, try your best not to smoke in a day throw away all your cigarettes and dont try to hide them either.Lol.im just joking, but you do that and it should work try for a week and you should be able to stop in no time.
get to the store and spend the money that you would have spent on killing yourself on some patches,,if not for you then do it for your kids,,I did it,,good luck

Whats the best way for a fifteen year old to quit smoking? -

without leting my mom and dad know
Just quit right now. Never light another one. Trust me, if I-d known then what I know now I sure would have quit before my health declined due to smoking. You will be doing yourself and your family a HUGE favor by quitting now before you have smoked long enough to get lung damage.

The longer you smoke - the HARDER it is to quit.
It will not be easy, tobacco is probably the most addictive substance in common use in the U.S. If tobacco was discovered right now, it would never get approval by the FDA for common use. But you are dealing with a huge industry, from farmers right up through retailers. It is a high profit item. I would imagine your youth will help you, it will be a physical strain. Cold turkey is the fastest way. Good Luck My congratulations for starting.
I know many who have had to quit smoking, -cold turkey.- It worked for them because they were determined to make it work. Good luck!!!!
Find a hypnotist in your area (Check out the National Guild of Hypnotists on Google) .
Call them or drop by and see if you can cut a deal where you can wash their car or clean their office, you get the idea, to get a couple of sessions.
The greatest factor in quitting is the desire to change.
check out the web for Smoking Cessation MP3-s. There out there. Play them over and over again. Like learning anything repetition is the key.
Visualize how cool you will feel and look when you discover that you took control of a habit that millions have not.
Cool is the word!
You will breathe better, sleep better and a piece of toast will taste like your in heaven. If you believe in prayer use it.
Here is a practical step:

Buy a fresh pack of a different brand every day.
This brings to the conscious mind the fact that your spending a fortune!
Next: decide how many cigarettes you smoke during the day.
Set the times: example, 9;00, 10:00, 11:00 ( I do not know your smoking habit)
Then if that totals 15 take the remainder of cigarettes and destroy them.
Carry a bottle of water with you at all times.

NO CANDY OR GUM! That is just switching the dependency to another object.

At the times appointed:
Take a sip of water (this is associating a good habit with your desire) and ask yourself -Do I really want a cigarette?-

If the answer is yes, light up without guilt and enjoy it!
If the answer is no you have to wait until the next time slot.
You cannot lend or borrow cigarettes.
You will be astounded at how well this works!

Note;
If you were carrying a tray of 50 glasses and dropped one, what would you do?
Keep going is the correct answer!
Same here!
If you mess up don-t beat yourself up about it just keep going!

Any cigarettes left at the end of the day must be destroyed!

Brush your teeth as soon as you eat!
Particles of food left in the mouth trigger a bell when your tongue touches them. Food=cigarette!!
Stay await from coffee, and drinks like Pepsi, Coke.
Carry a small bottle of a cinnamon flavored mouthwash.
If between times you get a really bad urge rinse your mouth with it.
It helps.
Hope I could be of some assistance.
I took control of the habit on March 27/84 at 7:30 PM on a Wednesday night. I had smoked for 32 years and had my lung collapse (1980) and still didn-t take control.
They told me I had emphysema and I still didn-t take control.
Having a true desire really makes a huge difference.

You can do it!
Get lung cancer.
try chewing gum and hard candy like jolly ranchers! or whenever you have the urge to light up, do something else with your hands like drawing, chatting online, playing an instrument. a lot of times smoking isn-t just the nicotine addiction, it-s the physical motions of lighting up! keep your hands and mouth busy ( in a healthy and productive way :)) and that should help. hang in there....quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your body!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You-re 15! Stop getting your buddies to buy them for you. Problem solved.
Get a new hobbie to distract yourself, and go cold turkey.
You will be moody in the first two days, but once your system is cleared, you will be fine. Use the new hobbie as a way to distract yourself and focus your thoughts on something else. It is the best and cheapest way to quit.
When I was fifteen and trying to stop smoking there was a class held at my school for it. They told us if we really wanted to stop we could do it by sucking on hot candy like fire balls and any cinnamon candy. It helps because if you take a drag after you eat hot candy it taste really bad so you just put out the cigarette. Also little coffee straws help by having something to put in your mouth and something to with your hands.

Why do ppl claim they cant quit smoking? -

smokers have been around me my whole life. every single one of them say they cant quit. all they have to do is just stop buying the cigerets and fight the craving. i quiit real easy when i smoked and it wasnt hard at all.
This is best answered in terms of motivation.
If someones motivation to quit is less than their desire to smoke, then they will find it impossible to quit.

They could also be more chemically addicted than you were - of perhaps giving up smoking just isn-t all that important to them compared to the benefits they reap from being high on nicotine. It-s not really considered socially acceptable these days to say they don-t really want to quit smoking, given the health risks, so they say that they can-t quit. In a way, that statement could be true.
i think they dont have strong determination...my father is one of them..
Try this website for quit smoking help and information. Quit smoking can be a very stressful experience so you-ll need as much help as you can get.

Remember why you-re doing it! (Family, friends, general health)

This is what you-re exactly looking for.

Don-t give up and good luck!
For those predisposed to addiction to nicotine, it can be harder to quit than heroin. For those who aren-t, it is relatively easy. Be thankful that you weren-t addicted like they are.
How long did you smoke? I have tried: hypnosis, lozenges, gum, patch (I did quit for 6 months on this one), Wellbutrin, and guess what? I still smoke. Even after you beat the cravings, you still have the urge. I had a doctor that quit for 10 years and started back. You NEVER lose the urge. Many of these -stop smoking- things have people working for them that have never taken a puff in their life telling me that I will be able to quit on this or that. Bull!
its a drug...we are all different have different variances to tobacco
It is the nicotine addiction that makes it difficult for them to give up. They will feel like cold turkey if they stop. Need to have strong will power to quit. Otherwise, it will not be easy to quit.
everybody is different. just try to be supportive when those around you are trying to change. maybe being helpful or human is your problem.
because smoking is sexy and is wanted as sex so they dont stop wanting it
Maybe because they actually don-t want to quit.
Okay, but how long did you smoke? It-s a whole lot different when you-ve been smoking for 40-odd years (like my dad). He-s tried countless times to quit, and can-t do it. So many people try, but it-s far more difficult than you could ever understand.
Are you aware that a nicotine addiction is stronger than a heroin addiction?
its tough but i agree...i just keep buyin
dThey don-t really want.
They are weak and feel like they need something to -lean- on. I also have been around smokers my whole life, I decided to -experiment- and I smoked for 3 straight months and quit with no problem. All I had to do was want to do it.
That-s you. Some people can quit easily, others have a harder time. People are different. Haven-t you ever known anyone who could do something easily that was hard for you?
ummm...because maybe they-re addicted to the nicotine? Are you slow?
Its called nicotine. Some people-s bodies are more reactive than yours and have a weaker immune system. They would fall for anything. But most of them are pure idiots to begin smoking in the first place. Which (no offense) includes you. But you are so lucky to be hard bodied. You must be healthy. You-re brave to go near dat, cuz I aint goin near dat sh..
People can-t just stop smoking when they want to stop. Smoking is a bad habit developed by people who have problems, who want to feel cool and etc. People can-t also stop smoking right away for it will make them more unhealthy. To be able to stop smoking in a more healthier way, one must reduce smoking cigarettes everyday. This will only work if you really want to stop smoking other than that you will just continue to smoke.

In General, how many days before quit smoking to go for plastic surgery.? -

i have left smoking before 10 day-s of plastic surgery. is there any effect on surgery.
Yes there is an effect. The healing process is much slower in smokers. This is due (in part) that carbon monoxide that you inhale with smoking, will attach to the red blood cells where oxygen needs to be. Oxygen is important to the healing process.

Smoking also robs the body of certain nutrients that are needed for normal function and injury/wound healing.

I say the sooner you quit the better and consider not restarting afterword.

Good luck
you should go to: http://www.cosmedicjetaways.com

They have a full section on how bad it is to smoke or be a smoker before surgery.

10 days is not enough, you should have planned this months ago.

smoking is bad for skin and it is essential for a good recovery process, it takes 6 weeks to clear the effects of smoking from skin.

and to do that you need to drink lots of water, 2 litres daily.

dont listen to surgeons advice, use a website like http://www.cosmedicjetaways.com

since they are not trying to get customers the same month, and bookings are usually 6 months in advance and they give all warnings and careful planning before hand.

this way you get to prepare for surgery, and the best results.

How soon after quitting smoking does the shortness of breath go away? -

How soon after quitting smoking does the shortness of breath go away? -

This question is for former smokers. If a person stops smoking, how soon afterward will the shortness of breath go away if that person is otherwise healthy and fit? Also, how soon will taste return?
First of all, if you just quit smoking, CONGRATULATIONS. You did yourself a big favor.

You should start expecting your taste and smell to start improving after 48 hours. This process will be gradual but after 9-14 days your sense of taste will return to normal. Your smelling ability will wait till your cough clears up. This could take up to 4 weeks, depending on how much do your lungs exercise.

Shortness of breath will start getting better 72 hours after your quit but it depends on your activity level. If you do yoga ( kapalbhati -
http://www.how-to-quit-cigarettes.com/yo…
) you could see great results in less than 10 days. Alternatively vigorous running, jogging, and cardio will help your lungs clear up soon and your breathing will become -better- between 5-7 days). It might take up to a month for a fit person who exercises regularly to get back his/her breathing to normal.

The above values may vary based on your weight, the number of cigarettes you smoked every day before quitting and the number of years you smoked before you quit.

Just remember, once you start feeling better, use that as your motivation to stay smoke free.

( I smoked for 18 years and quit when I was 30 which means I smoked for more than half my age. After quitting I realized that I never had a reason to smoke, it only did bad to me and all the good things like increasing concentration, releasing stress, etc was only BS and lies that I told myself. My concentration is way more than it ever was, I am a lot happier, more energetic and stress free, ever since I quit smoking. So once you quit, there actually is no reason for you to go back to smoking. THINK AGAIN.)
Can-t really say, as I started exercising and stuff at the same time, and I wasn-t exactly measuring my shortness of breath every day. I wouldn-t recommend quitting with the expectation of feeling better soon -- a watched kettle never boils, as they say, and you-ll probably get frustrated and go back to smoking.

All I can tell you is that I felt better sooner than I expected, and that I-ve always been glad I quit.
That will depend on whether or not there is permanent damage to your lungs. If you have smoked long enough to have emphysema, you might always have some shortness of breath. Otherwise, you should start seeing improvements in just a month or two. Taste can take longer but it should be back within a year.
You-re going to be short of breath if you are just starting a workout program anyway. Dunno how long it takes to come back. But I-m a smoker, and I run 3 miles a day, no problems. Just do what you gotta do, don-t blame the cigarettes. Quit if you want to (you should), but shortness of breath isn-t from the cigarettes, it-s from you working past your ability.
I am on day 7 of quitting. I have noticed that my smell is super sensitive and that food does seem to have more flavor but it does not seem to be that much of a difference.

I have read that it takes different amount of time for different people. Exercise helps and breathing exercises

I am also using a support group that I love.
depends on the person, how much they smoked...
it took my hair dresser almost 2 yrs. (she smoked for 20 yrs...) it took my boss 18 mnths. (she died from lung cancer) it took my mother-in-law about 2 yrs (then she got cancer and COPD..she-s still alive though, but stuck in the house on oxygen 24/7)
My parents both died before THEY stopped. (my dad was 48 yrs old by 10 days, my mother 54.)
I smoked 2 packs a day for over 20 years before I quite 5 years ago...

I am still out of breath... you see, I waited to long.... I now have COPD and have to use oxygen 24/7, but I-m hanging in there....

But to answer your question... about six weeks before you notice any real difference in breathing.... and my taste has, for the most part, stayed the same.

GOOD LUCK !!!
in about a year all the effects should be minimal or unnoticeable. it depends on how much you smoked and for how long.
God bless and congrats on stopping.
It takes months for me to get better for shortness of breath, but it-s getting better. Stop smoking will stop further damages to your body, it-s TRUE. Good luck!
Took me about two three weeks. I can ride my bike for hours now and not feel like I am going to die cause I can-t get enough air. I still need to train my lungs better after 5 years of killing my lungs!
about a year

Quit smoking now nasty oder? -

i quit smoking now i cant stand the smell of my penis area .it smells like old cheeese and my loads are much bigger.. im am not kidding !! when i smoked i never smelled like that and ejaculation was a smaller amount.. now my girl freind is scare to have sex because of the amount .. whats the problem and why is this happening. i seen nothing about this on quit smoking web sites..
The smell may not have changed, your perception probably has, smokers often have a reduced sense of smell.

As for the quantity of ejaculate, smokers often suffer from impotence or reduced fertility, so this may be a reflection of your virility returning?
Try using a dandruff shampoo like head and shoulders downstairs. Check for smegma or any other abnormalities. As far as blowing a big load, I would try to knock one out on your own in the bathroom during the day.
It-s probably your body trying to get the bad chemicals out of it. Try to eat a lot of fruit and whole grains and cut out bad food for a while so your immune system can straighten itself out.
You are aware you need to wash there, right? Sometimes as much as 2x a day.
Menthol cigarettes kill your sperm. I bet you used to smoke newports.
