Ive quit smoking cold turkey and am having a lot of anxiety!!!! Anyone with some veiwpoints to stick with it? -

im really trying to turn my life around one step at a time I recently quit smoking and am one smell away from falling back.... I dont want to lapse but I-ve been stressed a lot lately and this is adding to my frustration.... How to quit... stick with it and let go for good!!!!
Cold turkey makes a wonderful sandwich!!! When you feel the anxiety start to build, take a walk, a steamy shower and sing to your heart-s delight, even have a good cry if you feel it!

You can do many small things to sooth anxiety that have nothing to do with smoking...how about: Walk to the store and buy a magazine about diet, exercise, or healthy interesting hobbies. You can use the money you didn-t spend on butts for the week!!!

Good luck, and keep it going!!!
Think of how difficult it was when you first quit. Remember that it is easier now (no matter how difficult it is)...it-s still easier than those first couple of days. Remember that you are stronger than that cigarette that had you tethered for so long.

Go out to a place where you can-t smoke. Stay there until the urge goes away...mall, library, movie theater.

Good luck!
Withdraw off of opiates for just one hour and you will realize how easy it is to quit smoking. Be glad it doesn-t hit you physically to where you cannot move, puking, crapping your brains out and sweating. Plus mind games after that.

Drink some tea, buy Valerian Root.
I would recommend going to a doctor and telling him you-re trying to quit smoking and having anxiety. Sometimes they put people on medication before the stop so it-s not so bad. I tried to quit cold turkey and had massive mood swings so I started back. SO - my next plan of action is to go to the doc and follow the instructions I just gave you.

Tips for getting through the first days of quitting smoking? -

Tips for getting through the first days of quitting smoking? -

-Tis the season for resolutions and I have decided to quit smoking. I started smoking 4 1/2 years ago when I was going through a divorce (talk about crutches!) and I smoke about 6-8 cigarettes per day. I really don-t want to use a patch or pills. Does anyone have any helpful little tips for getting through the first days to calm my nerves and quell my cravings? Thanks in advance for your help and good luck with all your resolutions, too!
Cold turkey can be very tough. Cognitive behavior therapy would suggest that you must replace one activity with another, since the urge will remain for quite awhile. You-ll need to have a plan as to what to do when that urge occurs. It could be chewing gum, a small piece of chocolate or candy, decide to go for a vigorous run, etc. Biochemically speaking, your brain is going to expect to get that stimulation from somewhere. You may want to find ways to elevate your levels of serotonin. If you don-t use a prescription drug, one way to do this is exercise, though it takes several weeks to get your serotonin levels up. Another way is the use of St. John-s Wort which is available as an herbal tea or supplement. But as with any drug, be sure to check with your doctor before adding an herbal supplement to your current medicine regimen.
Well - at least you-re not a heavy smoker so it shouldn-t be as bad. Nonetheless, kicking the habit, as well as the addiction, is a factor.
Now this may sound naff - but a friend of mine gave up smoking recently and took up knitting as a replacement for something to do with her hands. I-m planning on quitting myself within the next few days and am going to go out and buy myself some knitting needles and a big ball of wool - anything that helps!
Best of luck to you!!!!
Remember that you-re in charge - not a handful of rolled up dead leaves.

My partner has asthma and wont quit smoking? -

he tells me when hes having trouble breathing, a cigarette helps. i think thats the biggest load of crap i have ever heard!!! and his asthma is slowly getting worse as he gets older...... what can i tell him to help him quit???? he says he will quit when he stops stressing.....he will NEVER stop stressing.
Unfortunatly your friend is one of the many persons that end up putting off quiting so long that it eventually kills them. I went to Nursing school with quite a few smokers, and even with everything they learned they never quit. It-s sad but true.
The only thing that can make your friend stop is himself.
Maybe try getting some really graphic photos online off what smoker-s lung-s look like. It might give him a good picture.
life is strssfull,if he loves you then tell him its hurting you just as much if not worse, or you give up a habit that he dislikes so much.
Keep him bossy , he will forget cigarettes

What are some physical advantages of quitting smoking? -

After you quit smoking what are some things that well get -better- in your physical appearance and how long after you smoke.
I quit smoking on January 12th of this year. My complexion is 100 times better. I can walk 10 miles without stopping, no problem. Food tastes better. I lost the urge to drink alcohol. After initially putting on a few pounds, I have lost 20 pounds and feel great.

Most importantly, my blood pressure average has dropped by 10 points.

I joined an on-line support group, no drugs, gums, pills, nothing.

one, you live longer
actually, your skin starts looking less yellow... so do your fingertips
Fresher breath, skin appears healther, more energy just general feeling better in your self, its got to be worth it? and it happens pretty soon after, you just have the cravings to beat first, it gets better, stick with it, and just think you will benefit financially as well!!
Well I-m young but 2 weeks and my yellow fingers had gone and i could breathe again and I don-t cough any more
better hair, better teeth, better breath, better skin in general, but it has to do with more moisture contained in your skin to make it look more brilliant and soft and touchable! :) quitting smoking is the best thing someone could do for their appearance

Help, I want to quit smoking? -

I added up that my husband and I spend on average $160 a month on cigarettes and that-s only if he smokes one pack a day and usually he smokes 2 to 2 1/2 packs a day. I have three toddlers at home and I stay at home full time, I am so very stressed out but I want to quit. Please anyone with ideas or suggestions or who has gone through this and quit successfully, I would greatly appreciate words of encouragement and/or support that has helped u through this.
Congratulations for taking the time for yourself to stop smoking! In 24 hours of cessation, you will already have significantly decreased your risk of heart disease!
It is so important, especially with three children in the holme, to attempt to quit smoking. THere are a lot of different ways to do it, and it might take a few tries, but don-t give up!
One way is to take Wellbutrin. Here-s the tricky part. If it is for smoking cessation, the insurance companies won-t pay. If you get it for depression, you can just pay your copay. I think you catch my drift.
Oral satisfaction is a factor. Gum is probably better than the patches, but use both if you have to.
Exercise helps! Its no joke. It ups your endorphin levels and you will feel good every time you finish a workout. If you need to start slow, take the kids for a half hour walk.
Remember to take it SLOW! If you make your goals too high too fast and you fail, you-re more likely to slip back into old habits. It will take at least a year for you to feel like a -non smoker-, but you definitely owe it to yourself and your family to kick the expensive habit!
My husband and I both quit last August. I also am a stay at home mom and didn-t think that I could quit. My husband wore the patch for 6 weeks. I quit cold turkey. I had gotten up one morning and lit a cigarette and it just made me feel sick. I took the rest of what I had left (maybe 5) broke them into pieces. (We both had smoked for 28 yrs.) We both found that drinking allot of water, chewing gum and dumb dumb lollipops helped. We chewed more gum in that first week than we had in years. My friend used Zyban. Another friend was on Wellbutrin.....they both said it helped with the cravings. My best advice to you would be.......pick a stop day and stick to it. At first just give yourself a pat on the back for not smoking for a few hours, then go day by day. When you get a craving.......take a short walk.......doodle on a paper........grab a lollipop or gum but don-t grab a cigarette. The first week is the toughest. And talk with others who have quit. They are full of advice and support. Good Luck.
Find something that keeps you occupied! May it be music, dance, sports, games. Among my friends are heavy smokers and I encourage them to quit all the time. You can do it! It-s really something useless and the very last thing in human needs.
Smoking is a very bad habit to get into, and believe me, I-m not blaming you for it. At a certain age, it-s hard /not/ to smoke. I would assume that you-ve been smoking for at least a few years if you have kids and a husband. I would suggest taking it slow; instead of, lets say, two packs a day, try one or one and a half, and go from there, shortening the amount every few weeks, or when you see fit. If your husband makes no move to change his smoking habits, try not to let it get to you. Think of your kids- you could be harming them by secondhand smoke, even if you don-t smoke everywhere in your house- and they will be much more likely to take up smoking if their parents do. Make sure you tell your husband this. Good luck, and stay healthy!
1) decide you are going to quit

2) follow this approach (and notice I said follow, not try, because when we say we are going to try, its like saying we will be happy to fail, as long as we are justified in trying), ok so approach is to reduce the number of hours/day that you smoke

start by not smoking before 10 am , then move that to noon, then 3pm, then 6pm, then 8pm THEN, cut it out altogether
i smoked for 36 yrs when i quit i was burning 3 to 5 pks a day if u make up ur mind and only if u do that u can quit when u get down to 5 cigs in a pack push them back dont throw them away but tell urself u can go 5 min with out 1 then go 5 min then tell urself i went 5 min without 1 now ill go 5 more but u can tell u self if i just have to have 1 u still got 5 left but i made it 5 min i can go another 5 just keep it up until u can advance to 10 min just keep it up i did that back in 1981 still doing without i finally threw the 5 cigs away about 2 yrs later IT AINT EASY good luck
I-M NOT A SMOKER, BUT MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY TO GET IN A SUPPORT GROUP, YOU CAN ALSO TRY NICODERM PATCHES, IF NOTHING ELSE GO TALK WITH YOUR FAMILY DOCTOR FOR HELP. ONCE YOU QUIT SMOKING YOUR HEALTH OVERALL WILL START TO IMPROVE. I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT IT-S EASIER SAID THAN DONE TO TRY QUITTING SMOKING. IF YOUR HUSBAND WANTS TO QUIT SMOKING, YOU BOTH SHOULD DO THIS TOGETHER. GOOD LUCK AND WISH YOU THE BEST.
Hi Hopeless. I am HOPE. I have had 4 people in my life die of smoking related disease. An uncle died of lung cancer the morning after I arrived and we went to the hospital the night I arrived. A co-worker died of lung cancer 6 months after it was detected. A friend had a lung removed because of cancer. And a co-worker pushed his 02 bottle around in the office before he died. If you have never heard someone with emphysema gasp for air, visit your local Lung Association office and ask them.

The fact is emphysema and lung cancer cure smoking. If the 3 toddlers aren-t big enough to push your 02 bottle, GET HELP AND GET HELP TODAY..... Good Luck
Go see your doctor and get a prescription for Wellbutrin (generic Zyban) Once on the medication, you can put the smokes down for good. I was a 3-4 pack a day smoker for 10 years. I had stopped twice, for a short time. Wellbutrin worked and I am cigarette free for 10 years.
Me too sweetheart! However I do not have children, and I think that that alone should help you quit. I am not being a hipocrite, when I do have children I really hope I have the strenght to quit. And your husband is not helping, its not his fault, both me and my gfirnd smoke and its really tough to quit by yourself and even hardeer with someone else. Good luck!!!! See you in the hospital, I will be the one pushing my oxegen tank
Smoking: Everybody knows that smoking is dangerous. Smoking can damage your body, particularly your lungs, your brain, and your heart. The poisonous chemicals in a cigarette can cause death.

Try subliminal music. It is only a few dollars and you can get it from
http://www.subliminalsales.com/products.…
. It is a good alternative to taking pills and spending money to see your doctor. Plus, it reduces stress.
Well, you-ve taken the first step, realizing the severity of the problem. What you spend on cigarettes is only the tip of the financial iceberg. There-s the extra for cleaning, health care (both yours and the kids) that goes with that too. I won-t even get into the health consequences for both you and your children, they are too well known.

Next step, each person is different. If you have severe Nicotine withdrawal, a patch or the gum may help. Of course your ultimate goal is to kick nicotine altogether.

Enlist your kids. If you are really serious then they can help. Tell them you want them to stop you if you try to light up. Remember that they are children and only a safety net reminder. If you are not serious, then don-t have them help.

Make plans. Talk with your husband about what you could do with the save money. Put up clippings and pictures of your goal. Keep that goal in front of you. It will help keep you focused.

There is a possibility that your insurance might cover participation in a program like Smoke Stoppers. Or such an option may be available through your husbands work.
First of all, congratulations! I know it is hard but it can be done. I smoked for 35 years and quit 3 1/2 years ago. I went through hypnosis and it-s funny because I didn-t feel any differently when I left the session. But I almost immediately stopped. I think I may have had 3 or 4 more cigarettes. Sometimes it crosses my mind to start again but I wouldn-t go back to it now for anything! Think of all the money you-ll save. Put the money that you would spend on cigarettes a month away and take a nice vacation instead! I feel so much better, I even joined a gym. I am able to do things with my grandchildren that I could not do before because I was always short of breath. I watched my father die because of his 4 pack a day habit and that still didn-t stop me. If you are absolutely ready to quit YOU CAN DO IT! I-d tell you to do it for your kids because they are inhaling that stuff too, but you have to do it for YOU!

start smoking
The best way to loose weight is to do naturally. The body will accept it better. Take half the intake, eat half what u normally eat. 3 light meals a day. No sugar stuff. Soft drinks are no good. Plain water is the best. No sweet drinks and no snack. Do not eat between meals. Have regular time meals. Do not eat before bed. No supper. Breakfast is a must. Take a light lunch. A lighter dinner. Less red meat, if possible take fish. The best way to eat fish is to steam it. More vegetables and take 2 kinds of fruits per day. If u decide to stop meat a better replacement would to take beancurd. You can caculate your body mass index (BMI) with a formula.

BMI = weight (in kilograms) divide by
(Height (m) x Height (m))

remember I kilograms = 2.2046 pounds
1 meters (m) = 0.305 feet
chart forRisk of Heart Disease and Diabetes

27.5 and above High Risk
23.0 – 27.4Moderate Risk
18.5 – 22.9 Low Risk (healthy range)

Less than 18.5 Risk of nutritional deficiency diseases and osteoporosis

Throw the pack that you have away.

--Start chewing gum to replace the urge to smoke

---Get those nicotine replacement gums at the drug store.

--Get a big jar and start putting the money that you would spend on a pack or a carton in that jar.

--Stay away from people who smoke..This is often the hardest and leads to smoking again.

--Go onto the internet and read all about lung cancer and emphezema.

Smoke free for 5 years and lovin- it!
Just stop.. but dont do the spitting thingy.. Thats really really bad for u.. but yahh..
I did cold turkey but that doesn-t work for everyone.
When people want to quit smoking they want to do it as soon as humanly possible. I don-t blame them for this, I was the same. When I was trying to quit smoking I just wanted some -overnight- way out. But unfortunately these never work.

First you need to have a planned strategy, and understand what you are going to do before you just go out and try and quit. This article will help to illustrate some of the important elements you will need as a person to quit smoking with no stress.

A -never give up- spirit, is a significant quality you will need for quitting. Listen, despite what all these -authorities- (who are probably just trying to make a quick buck off you) are trying to tell you. You are going to have cravings. And listen to me when I say this, there is no way to stop them completely without fail.

And that-s why you should have a fighting spirit. If you want to quit smoking and obliterate your nicotine addiction then you need to fight off the cravings to smoke and come out victorious at the other end. Because you will get there! I know so.

The ability to -mastermind- or in other words align with others. Another thing you should learn in your -quit smoking toolbox- is the ability to align with other people who trying to quit grab advice from those who have managed to quit smoking. I recommend this fully, in fact you-d be silly not to, because you-ll all be able to help each other, share ideas and you-ll make meet new people during your quit session!

How do I do this though, you say?? All you have to do is find people, you may already know of them. And if you don-t know of any people who are going through the same thing as you just look online! There are many support forums all over the internet and I think those forums have been responsible for helping thousands of people quit. So check one out!

It-s time to take the leap. Are you going to keep ignorant smoker or will you decide for once in your life to quit and stay smoke-free for the rest of your life. You have two choices, one leads to a great, healthy fun life full of wellbeing? Well I-ll let you get creative with that.
Cold turkey, I tried everything and then one day I just set them down. It ws the only thing that worked, that was over 2 years ago.
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
The best way would be not to smoke anymore, nothing else comes close!
People who dont smoke will say just stop but they dont know what they are talking about. Different ways work for different people. The patch, nicorret you just need to figure out wat works with you. Dont go cold turkey you need to slowly ease urself off of it. I know peopl who then were constantly eating gummy bears and what not to help satisfy there craving lol i guess it worked.
1-You should be determined ti quit and should fix a ay for that.
2-Destroy all what you have and remove lighters and ashtrays from house and work.
3-Do-t think that you are quitting smoking, because this will make you feel that you have lost something
4-Try to be in healthy area where there is no smoke.
5-If you feel like smoking, get something to do or go walking.
Best of luck
Just decide you-re not going to smoke anymore and don-t waver from that decision. I quit smoking four days ago. It is especially hard around my -triggers-: coffee, drinking, hanging out with my friends... but it can be done! I am viewing cigarettes as the enemy. I know that if I have even one cigarette, I am going to have to go through it all again. I-m trying to view it as an honesty issue, I told everyone I was quitting smoking, so if I don-t, that-s a lie, plus a lot of people who know I said I was quitting and didn-t! If I really want one, I just tell myself I can go another hour without one. I-m chewing gum and playing with tape constantly. Good luck! If I can do it, you can too!
You have to be strong minded .

Cold turkey is the best. if you find you miss holding a cigarette get a cinnamon stick to hold it will also make your breath smell nice

The first couple of days you might feel light headed as your lungs are not used to pure oxygen but it goes away.

And then take it one day at a time

good luck
ex smoker
Its up to you. Cold turkey, nicotine patches, the gum, prescription drugs like chantix? You need to figure out what works for you. And Then set a date and go for it. It was the hardest thing I ever did. Smoke free for ALMOST a year. March 14th, 2008 it will be a year.
I had been smoking 4 packs a day for several years when I finally quit.
I LOVED smoking to the very end, but wanted to quit for religious reasons. I had tried quitting before but had always failed, but it was because I was trying to please others.
I LOATHED being told I HAD to quit. The rebel in me kept at it just to spite people, I-m sure.

While on a trip to the middle of nowhere I decided enough was enough. I lit a cigarette and said: -I smoke this as a friend.- After it was gone, I lit another and announced: -I smoke this as an enemy.- I know it-s silly but I -divorced- my habit.
And because I was in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do I then hybernated.
For almost 2 weeks, I did hardly anything except pray and sleep.
And for the rebel in me, I kept my last pack of smokes. I told myself I could light up any time if I REALLY wanted to. I also made -little goals-. When I went an hour without a smoke, I-d challenge myself to go 2 hours. And when I felt like caving, I-d inhale an unlit cigarette and tell myself I-d be wasting all those victories.
About a week into cold turkey, I bought some patches. I wore them for couple weeks, then quit because I felt like I was cheating.

I slipped three years later. I took that same pack of cigarettes and liked to have died when I inhaled!!! 3 year old Marlboro Menthol 100-s do NOT age well lol. It made me sick enough not to want to do it again :D

But I dream of smoking almost every night and I still love the smell of cigarettes. The only thing that keeps me from starting back up is my religion (I-m one of Jehovah-s Witnesses).

Much success to you. You CAN do it!!
Cold turkey by cutting down slowly by as little as .5-1 cigarette a day
Me and my friends strapped my mum to a chair after taping every anti-smoking commercial on TV and forced her to watch it... Worked a charm.
well the way I made someone stop was making them throw everything away that has to do with smoking.
It works
don-t smoke anymore.

I saw a ad in my local paper for hypnosis to stop smoking and I was just wondering if anyone out there has ever done this. I really want to quit. I have tried the patches without much luck. Thanks for any and all info.
Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
