How to quit my smoking habit? -

I know it is better to quit smoking but cant
Need suggestion how can I quit it
Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It-s just so easy to start thinking that just one won-t hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don-t have just one. Beware - alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here-s a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It-s not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something-, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.

After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.
don-t try and quit cold turkey cause most people just end up going back to it. just use a patch or something.
Learn the art of relaxation by doing Pranayam and Meditation every day. U will do better if u learn from a learned teacher. I can give u the address of my teacher. He holds classes in India as well as the USA and other countries.
No, but I am going to watch your posts. I-ve found though that you can cut back if you are conscious about how many you smoke. I-ve went from 2 packs a day to 4 cigarettes a day a day. The biggest thing for me was to cut back on the soda. Some reason with me soda and cigarettes go hand in hand. Hopefully here in a few weeks I will be able to quit indefinitely. I also found it is easier having friends who do not smoke. *LOL* I guess for everyone it-s different. I-ve heard several people tell me they just were tired of smoking. These are people who have smoked a good 20 years so I know cold turkey can be done. My grandpa replaced cigarettes with candy.
you should reduce to smoke...if you usually smoke 10 sticks of cigarette..then tomorrow, you smoke 8 or 9 sticks....continue it for the next two days, you smoke 7 or 8 sticks and so on..
The absolute best way to quit smoking is through masturbation! Before you write this off, let me explain why:
1. It can be done almost anywhere. Unlike smoking, you will not have to find a special spot to masturbate. Any public restroom will do. This also makes it more suitable for people who work in large office buildings where there is no smoking section close by.
2. It is free or almost free. Unlike those nasty patches or gum which can run you 40 bucks a box, masturbation is free! At most, you may need a magazine which will set you back about 5 bucks and should last a while.
3. It can help you avoid weight gain. Masturbation is an excercise that burn calories and thus helps keep the weight off. Also, unless you are very skilled, it is very difficult to eat while you are doing it.
4. It works better at relieving stress. I don-t think I need a long explanation here. Just imagine, you have a flat tire in the middle of nowhere and feel the urge to smoke due to stress. Instead of heading for the pack, head for the nearest bush or tree!
5. It requires little to no practice to perfect.
When you start to cough and catch a cold , you can try quiting . The cigarettes taste awful at this time.
keep trying I smoked for 27 years but gave it up,it-s not easy but necessary try hanging out with people who DON-T avoid those people that do,if your friends are smokers ,you have to leave good luck ( P.S. I did it with out the drug store aids........you mite try those)

I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.
I went onto the gum. I haven-t had a smoke for over a year trouble is I am now addicted to the gum, but the doc says that it-s better than smoking as I am not getting all the other poisons from the cigarettes. I now got to quit the gum by replacing every second one with regular gum. I was a chain smokerand have even managed to not smoke even after receiving bad news that my grandson has Leukeamia.
i tried eating candy or chewing gums. its hard. u know what? i totally stop smoking after a week of smoking weed.
I work at a hospital and have been hearing news that they are coming out with a pill that suppresses the urge to smoke.
throw away all cigarette left with you right now
do not buy cigarettes
do not ask people to give you cigarettes
do not keep cigarettes at home
do not keep cigarettes at work
donate $100 to world vision when you smoke
donate $200 to philippines out of school youth when you smoke again

My husband has been smoking for maybe 13 or 14 years and after receiving the results for an exam, he is convinced that he needs to quit smoking. What helped you quit smoking and not pick up a cigarette even when you were going through a bad or hard time in life?

FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE QUIT SMOKING AFTER AT LEAST 3 YEARS without the help of pills, patches etc? -

This Thursday I-m going to wake up and not smoke. I-m determined to do plus i have a quitting buddy but she has those chantix pills. i want to just do it on my own. so what did you do to help stop the cravings on your own? im gonna be needing some methods lol ive been smoking for 3 years and its time to throw this down.
I-ve been smoke free for about 4 years now, and I just wanted to offer my advice.

Nicotine gums, patches are all bull*-#!! The key is to eliminate nictoine from your body, not put it back in via another form.

Pills are not that effective, it just gives you something to depend on. Some people feel like without the pills they have to smoke again.

Just Quit Cold turkey, No Nicotine!!!!!!!!!!!
The First week is HELL
The Second Week is Tempting.

But After awhile days pass by without you even wanting to smoke, then months, then years.

But one thing is, no matter how long you go without smoking (months/years) YOU WILL ALWAYS GET CRAVINGS TO SMOKE.
On the otherhand, these cravings get easier and easier to bypasss.

But be prepared to have and increase appetiete when you quit, have candy available I used Jolly Ranchers, candy help fight the cravings in the early stages of your withdrawl.
Cardio and othe exercise helps battle the habit too.

JUST DON-T SMOKE, WE CAN-T MAKE YOU STOP ONLY YOU CAN!!!
Try cold turkey and if it fails, try Chantix. For more Chantix information, click the following link:

try doing something to take your mind off of smoking.

good luck!!!! =]]] ?
Ive been smoke free for 3 years vs. 7 years of smoking 2 packs a day. youve got to go cold turkey, and find something to releive your habbit. Personally I chewed so much Wrigleys gum (Not nicotine) it wasnt even funny, when you spend nearly $40 per week on gum you might as well just spend the money on cigarettes.

But eventually i got so sick of gum that now I dont chew gum or smoke. Ps, you-ll go through one hell of a withdrawl and probably gain around 30 lbs.

Good luck!
I wish you good luck i tried like that many of times and failedi have no will power i finally ended up quitting off of chantix so Good luck
There is a little bit of a problem already. Don-t start Thursday, start right now!
please please read this book before you stop smoking. i guarantee you-ll stop smoking quicker and withdrawal free, unlike your friend using chantix. please read this book and let me know when you-re done

http://www.quit-smoking-easy-way.com/

p.s.
nothing to lose, there are no scare tactics, etc... worst case scenario, you read a book ;)
I started smoking when I was 16 and I eventually quit when I was 20. I was never a heavy smoker, but I just couldn-t quit every time I tried. Then, one day just like you, I woke up and decided I really had to quit coz I couldn-t afford it and I booked a holiday to Germany. Now this is probably the dumbest thing you-ve ever heard (I-m really not the brightest!) but I was afraid of getting deep vain thrombosis on the plane over, so I just didn-t buy any fags. (Before when I tried to quit I would hide -emergency fags- in my shoes etc)I told my friends I was desperately trying to quit and not to offer me fags when they smoked, and managed to not smoke for about a week. Then one night I went clubbing and lit up. (that was my thing, drink in one hand, fag in the other - it just didn-t feel right if I didn-t do that!) The fag tasted horrible. I thought maybe it was just the drink giving it a bad taste as I loved my menthols soooooo much. Later that night I lit up again, and once again hated the taste. The next morning when sober, I decided I was quitting again. I had another fag about a week after, but it tasted and smelt horrible, the most foulest thing on earth. From that day since, I-ve just hated fags. I really hate it when my bf smokes, the smell now makes me feel sick. It-s amazing how much easier it gets when you give your body a break from it. Good luck xx
Is there a particular reason you don-t want to use nicotine replacements (patch, lozenge, gum)? It makes it a whole lot easier to quit.

Like magic, and your insurance will most likely cover it. Remember, you have to want to quit...medication can-t help that aspect of it. Good Luck, my friend.
I tried it but it did work for me. I do not think my head was really into quitting.
The Chantix would make me feel like crap when I smoked while taking it. So it either was the cigarettes or the Chantix that had to go. I unfortunately chose the Chantix.

Note: I might add that my insurance, Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas did not cover it.
Walmart is the cheapest to purchase it if your insurance doesn-t cover it. I paid $130.00 for the rx locally and a friend paid only $65.00 at Walmart.
I took Chantix from October-December. The side effects were weird. During week one the upset stomach got worse with each dose and with each cigarette. By the end of week 1 I thought I was going to throw up everytime I smoked. Also during week 1 I had problems falling asleep and once I did fall asleep I had the most unusual and vivid dreams ever.

On day 8 I quit smoking. The upset stomach only kicked in for about 30 minutes when I took the medicine and the problems falling asleep went away.

The weird dreams continued through until the end.

According to research if you quit with the first 3 month supply you can ask your doctor for an additional 3 months. That can help increase your odds of being smoke free 1 year later.

I only took about 2 months worth of Chantix over 3 months and did fine. I got to a point that I only remembered to take the medicine when I thought about smoking.

Good luck quitting! The medicine does wonders!
I have heard three success stories and plan to start taking it myself next month.
Chantix is a great way to quit smoking. For more Chantix information, click the following link:

yes, it does work,,,,so far have heard of 4 success stories.
my wife quit smoking March 19, and was prescribed Chantix. She has one more week of the 12 week program and she hasn-t had one cigarette since she quit. She has had cravings at times, but this is someone who has smoked many, many years and was up to 2 packs a day. She said the worst thing for her was the constant reaching for the pack that has always been within her reach, but now is no longer there. I can tell you it has helped her immensely. What it will be like after the 12 weeks? Only time will tell, but I-m bettin on her success. Good luck with your decision to quit. I know its not easy, I haven-t succeeded yet. But I will. Hope you do too.
I have been on it for three weeks and have been smoke free for two of them.It really helps with the symptoms of quitting.I dont even think about smoking.I have tried quitting several times and have smoked over twenty years.I cant seem to get past the two week mark of a quit so I am waiting to see how I am going to do this week which will be my third week of my quit.If I make it past this third week then I know I will be fine and I do feel as if I am going to make it with no problem...It does cost a lot and my insurance does not help with the cost.It does cause gas and bloating, still waiting for that to go away as stated that it will, and also I get dizzy headed which bothers me most of all so I have cut back on my dosage from the prescribed two one mg. to only one pill a day and it still works at that dosage so far.But I think to be total smoke free you have to make a comentment to live a smoke free life. The pill just helps you have to do the work
I have been on the meds for one month now. I am two weeks without a cigarette. Taking Chantix was the best decision that I ever made. It has been so much easier than I thought. I am so glad that I did it! Just so that I don-t sound like a commercial let me tell you some negatives: 1. cost- It is expensive (i think before my insurance it was over 100.00/month, but I actually only paid around 45.00) but it is way less than I would have spent on cigarettes. 2. Side effects- the wierd dreams were something, but I could live with them. The naseua was unbearable at times. Remember, take with plenty of food and water. It can be severe. The 2nd pill of the day was the wrost for me but I figured out if I took 1/2 of that pill with dinner and 1/2 before bed it was much better.
Good Luck!!!!!

My doctor suggested this medication for me as i am a heavy smoker (yes i know i should be ashamed). I have tried many times and several different ways to quit but as of yet i have not found anything that works for me, and i am motivated and ready but that nicotine just bites me in the a$$ everytime. My problem is it cost $150 for a months supply and i live on a fixed income. i just wanted to know if anyone has had any success trying this RX.

p.s Please no dirty answers, I am serious
If you-re motivated then Chantix would be good for you. I took it for almost 3 months (starting last October) and I quit smoking on day 8. Chantix did a great job on getting rid of the physical cravings. The behavioral side isn-t helped by the medicine so that-s where the motivation comes in.

There are a few side effects that appear to be rather common. Upset stomach, trouble sleeping and weird dreams seem to be the majority.

For me the upset stomach only lasted about 30 minutes after I-d take the medicine. It wasn-t pleasant but I figured it was a small price to pay. The weird dreams continued for me the entire time I took the medicine.

You-ll do great on the medicine! You might have a hard time affording it but after a couple of months just think about all of the money you-ll be saving in the future.
This stuff is a miracle drug. You only have to take it about 3 months...think of how much cigarettes will cost you down the road. You can smoke all you want the first week of starting it...then you have a quit day and they up your mg-s. A little nausea ( nothing a big glass of water doesn-t cure) and NO cravings at all. Lots of emo support if you need it...plus lots of cool statistics they-ll throw at you everyday if you want. Works way differant then any gum or patch...no withdrawal from them either. Try it...it-s well worth the money. PS my insurance covers it...check it out.
A drug to make you not crave a drug. Hmmm.
Well, doctors are glorified drug-pushers, so it-s not surprising.
Have you tried accupuncture?
I know that drugs are poisonous, so I would not consider asking a medical doctor about...anything.
I personally have not tried this product yet but my mother who smoked for 40 years has had great success with it. I also know several other people who have been very successful with it.
Just to encourage you a little more, I took it and I have been smoke free for four month! I smoked a pack (at least) a day for ten years and I had tried everything! It was expensive, and honestly cheaper to buy a pack (or two) of smokes, but honestly, now I don-t pay for either!!! Plus, I can walk a lot farther and faster and I don-t feel bad at all!

Tip: It says to eat before taking the medication....make sure you do or you will feel nauseous for a while...
Chantix is an excellent way to quit smoking with few side effects. For more Chantix information, click the following link:

I-m 26 and I-ve been smoking since I was around 11 or so ( yea I know )...I REALLY want to quit. I-ve tried cold turkey before and I just got really sick and started smokig again. I-d appreciate any advice or tricks on quitting.Thank you.
hi Krys ..

did the same thing myself.. i smoked for over 40 years,, tried a number of times to quit..cold turkey, the patches etc.. for me the only thing that worked was participation in a support group..

i am a member of nicotine anonymous, and attend meetings both locally and on line.. meetings are as close as your computer.. however you decide to quit good luck!! there is no wrong way to quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
my grandpa died from smoking. but he did quit when he was 30 or 40,, i forget. my grandma told me he joined a class sort of like AA. there was around 80 people in the class. him and another guy were the only people that actually quit. as you can see quitting is really hard. but find something to quit for. he had 4 sons. it worked for him. he died at the age of....76 i think. but he would-ve died WAY earlier if he didn-t quit. he also had polio when he was 26 which also contributed to his illnesses. he was the toughest guy i knew. so please try your very hardest to quit. go join a class or something. quit with someone you know, it will help.
I have never smoked my friend smokes 2 packets everyday, but he left it all of a sudden, how??? I asked him he said me that he hated some food i do not know which one, he used to stick it to the cigerrate butt and when he touched it to his lips when he could not control, he had the bad taste of the food and automatically he through it..Nice i liked his idea...
I JUst threw them away. Smoke pot for a month or two, then if you wanna give that up, its much easier. POT ISNT PHYSICALLY ADDICTING, NICOTINE IS MORE ADDICTING THEN HERIONE. Or decolp a caffiene addiction and drop that, though a caffiene addiction is harder to break then pot is, ur choice. Though pot has very very few aftereffects, so i never dropped it, i get high now 1-3 times a month, very fun.

Can anyone explain how laser treatment helps you quit smoking? Does it actually work? -

Can anyone explain how laser treatment helps you quit smoking? Does it actually work? -

Hi Berty,
It is great to note that you are in the process of deciding to quit. It is clear that you are looking at using laser treatment for quitting.
I teach Health Sciences in a Major University and read such literature often.
If you used laser treatment alone you are not likely to quit smoking because objective data does not state that this method is successful. The manufacturers of laser equipment and -treatment specialists- who use laser treatments do say it works.
When you finally decide to quit here are some suggestions.
1. Make your decision to quit yourself. Do not decide to quit because other people are telling you to do so. The decision to quit must be yours so that you can give yourself credit for the success and feel good about it.
2. If you smoke more than 10 cigs. per day you may want to see your doctor.
3. When you get the urge to smoke - you need to say to yourself, -I can do without it? or Why am I smoking?-. At this point you may want to use a distraction or a combination of several distractions. Examples of distractions include: Short walks, reading something, watch a movie, driniking water. Try not to eat a chocolate because then you are substituting one bad habit for another.
4. Nicotine Patches - are helpful for people who are addicted to smoking. The decision to quit must be yours and yours alone.
5. Try and get a friend or family member to quit at the same time. This way you have honest feedback about your success.
6. The first day or two will be the hardest. Addictive disorder signs and symptoms reach their peak after 72 hours. After that it will begin to get better.
7. Other things to keep in mind: a. Do not hang out with people who smoke or people who encourage you to smoke.
b. Do not frequent your usual smoking spots.
c. Stay focussed. Think of the benefits of quiting - no smelly clothing, lower cancer, lower hypertension, lower heart attacks, more money saved, less cough, sleep better, no cold feet, no COPD, healthier environment, time saving, less cleaning, better relationship with friends and family, not like kissing an ashtray when maing love.
Laser treatment is a minor tool to help produce endomorphins. It is very minor. Your resoultion will determine your success or failure. Not the treatment choice.
You are in the process of making a major decision. Make it and stick with it. You will succeed.
You have not failed till you stop trying.
Good Luck and Best Wishes.
Only if it disconnects your brain.
is that the same treatment that will laser your hands off? if it is, then yes.
I had laser treatment twice. It-s a device which they go all over your pressure points and it-s suppose to put endorphins back into your body. That it does and if you weren-t a heavy smoker. Say if you only smoked not even half a pkg. per day It would help you.For me it didn-t I wasted two hundred bucks.I also had acupuncture and that was useless. When I left the office and got in my car I took the little pressure stints out .I also tried the patch that was hell.SO it-s just I didn-t want to quit I guess.It-s a habit and none of theses things helps the only thing will help is willpower.Hope I answered all your thoughts on ways to quit.Good Luck I just can-t quit.
I-ve never heard of this method, but it doesn-t sound like it would work or safe. Just do it on your own...Cold Turkey. Yeah it will be hard at first, but then you will be over it and glade that you did it at all.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
nope! i have never heard of that! chew the gum or use the patches they work wonders! they are bit expensive but, think of how much money you will save when you quit smoking?? if your going to quit i hope you will stick with it! good luck!!
It doesn-t work, only good oldfashioned willpower.

How did YOU quit smoking? -

my parents, everytime they quit (quit probably is not the best word...took a break, rather? lol) but hey just stopped cold turkey.

Those that have quit...how did you do it? Did you have to use gum or patches?
cold turkey
I stopped having sex.
My first experience was Auriculo therapy. It helped me to not experience withdrawal symptoms and store this sensation in my memory. Helping me going cold turkey. However it took this very strong image to quite from one moment to another.
It was the desire to be with my children for a long time to come and stay actively involved in their lives. I saw smokers growing old so fast that the idea to become a burden to my kids was awful. Also not being strong enough to help them or my grandchildren, if anything would happen to them at a later age was enough to never feel the need to smoke again. Who knows what you can visualize to stop wholeheartedly.
well / when i was smoking /my older son / was 5 at the time / i had 2 boys / and they wanted to do something /or play / i would say / when I-m done smoking /if your a smoker /u know how difficult that was / well that year / the great smoke out day / rolled around /and LO AND BEHOLD / i threw my smokes away /and have not had a smoke since then /my older boy /is now 33 years old
My mom just read a book and whenever she would think of one she would start cleaning
My husband quit 9 months before I did. Of course that made it easier for me. Finally, after smoking 2 packs of Winston (regular) for over 20 years, I just decided to quit. I heard something on TV about second -hand smoke, which was just beginning to be taken seriously back then. So that is what inspired me to quit. I had seen how my husband had quit so easily; no patch no nothing. So I stopped. I missed them for about 2 weeks. Otherwise it was very easy. I guess you just have to WANT to quit. My husband never bugged me to quit. He just quit, never complained, and never bit**ed at me to quit. I just wanted to, and felt proud to say , -I don-t smoke.-
I had surgery and told the anesthesiologist to keep telling me I would not smoke anymore. As I was going under, he was saying this, and I have not wanted a cigarette since. This was almost 2 yrs ago and I had smoked for 40 yrs. I had tried gum, patches and cold turkey with no luck, and seemed to smoke even more.
swap the smokes for sugarfree stuff like chewing gum for sugarfree lollies, everytime you feel like a smoke eat one or chew chewwing gum, its hard for the first week or so but it does get easier, if you cant quit cold turkey then have half a smoke every now and again, not all the time though, limit your smokes at first to maybe 5 a day for a couple of days and then lower the amount every day and so on goodluck!!

Im pretty sure i quit smoking for good but? -

i find myself not knowing what to do with myself now is that a normal part of quitting ad how long does it last for
I quit smoking two months ago. I also do not know what to do with myself, with my hands actually. It is a normal thing to feel more fatigued and a little jittery, to eat a bit more, to be a bit grouchy. As far as how long these symptoms continue, perhaps months.
Yes. Tobacco turns on the head all personality, not only metabolism. It slowes down mental proceses and in that way -solves- our troubles. When we quit smoking, all the -waiting- problems reinitialize their activity, and find us more or less unprepared. Metabolism is another great problem to be resolved. Metabolic proceses have been changed seriously during smoking period and are found in some sort of chaos. Enough heavy phisical activity helps the body to regenerate natural metabolism, end to free us from nerve tensions which come with healthier nerve activity. That and some photo of the polmons after 30 years of smoking on the obduction desk should help you to overcome this painfull period , which can last about one month or maybe some more, which depends to your activities. Here we are a lot of the sort.
When you quit an addiction, it-s important that you replace it w/something else. It fills that irritating void. Maybe you could take up a hobby that kills time and occupies your hands? Good luck.
Yep I stopped about 3 yrs ago and only over the last 12 months don-t think about it any more. Don-t go near those little suckers again.

Quit smoking? -

Ok here is the skivy. I smoked from about 17-20 not all the time but i would have maybe 2 a day, so i guess you can say i was a casual smoker. Well then when i met my x-husband he made me quite, so i did cold turkey. No pills, gum nothing. Then about a year ago i started back up around the time i was going threw my divorce. So now i-m 26 and its been about a year since i started again. Again i-m still a casual smoker, but i prob. go threw about 10 of them when i-m out drinking. Not smoking during the day or when i-m sitting at home is not an issue, thou when i do have a stressful day i-ll light one up, but its just this bad habit when i-m out having a few that i want to stop all together! I know some of you may say stop drinking, but its not like i go out every night, its just maybe one day a week, and then maybe once on the weekend. So i-m wondering if anyone has any ideas as to what i can do with out taken over the counter meds or contacing my doc to quite! Thanks
Put a single bead on an elastic thread and tie it to your wrist. when you get a craving snap it on the wrist bone. Worked for me! I-m not kidding! The snap is enough ouch to get you to think about something else (the minor pain in your wristbone) enough time that the craving will pass.
Ya same with me. I dont smoke cigs that much unless I-m drinking or just under stress/after a stressful situation. And that I think is even harder than just quitting if you do a lot a day. Because when I tried quitting and something stressful happened it was impossible to just not have one.

I think you just need to find something else to relieve your stress. Good luck!
well theres this really good gum nicotine gume buts its kinda expensive it helped my granpa sorry i forgot no gum

Why do you get ulcers in your mouth after you quit smoking? -

Why do you get ulcers in your mouth after you quit smoking? -

Often times when you quit ingesting poisonous substances, for a time afterwords, your body forces these poisons out. creating sores, boils, and the like. it may take a while, but drink lots of water to help, and maybe consider a toxin flush. eventualy, it will subside. Congrats!
No, that does not sound normal. You should see a DR.

I quit smoking and is this normal? -

It-s been about 2 months apprx. since I quit. I just joined a gym cause I have gotten a little chunky. I feel better and breathe better, now, but I have the hardest time with losing weight. Do you think I should get a personal trainer for a couple sessions to have someone motivate me? I am also worried about the expense of one, and if it would be worth it.
Your metabolism is not as fast as when you were smoking. Whenever you smoke, your blood pressure and heart rate elevates, causing a higher rate of metabolism. Plus, many time people replace the smoking with eating. If you begin an exercise program of any kind and follow a healthy diet, you will eventually lose the weight. I joined Curves once and it was structured and had a nutritionist to help the clients. I lost 40 lbs in a few months and it wasn-t that difficult. Good luck.
I wouldn-t worry about the expense so much. Since you are no longer smoking, you have extra income you aren-t using. You don-t need a personal trainer forever. Just have them create a plan with you, show you how to use the equipment properly, and then take it on your own. But if you just joined a gym, they probably offer a complimentary session with one of their trainers.
it-s normal, especially that you-re a female, since females are more determined in shifting into positive way of life.
look up acai berry and colon cleanse diet
TOTALLY SAFE, seen on oprah and everything, and it-s natural.
free trails found online, just pay shipping too.
:)
btw, congrats on quitting

How do i quit smoking? i ve been trying since very long but ? -

its been 5 long years i ve been smoking but now my man does not want me to ... he gave me lot of time to quit .... i ve been hiding it ffrom him tht dont smoke now... but in my heart i know i m cheating him as he trusts me... but pls help me how do i quit tht
If you really want to quit ... you will ... cold turkey ... just throw them out. You say it can-t be done .... BULL ... that-s what the ad companies tell you ... you-re weak and need their product to quit. I smoked 1.5 packs per day for many years ... at one time it was 3 packs a day. I quit ... cold turkey. My story / secret : I was teaching martial arts, one day after a hard / fast workout (which I led), my students recovered their breath before me. I walked out of the temple, threw the pack in the trash ... in front of my students ... I haven-t smoked since ... it-s about willpower ... yes ... for a long time I wanted a smoke but I always remembered that moment of being winded and knew that would be a normal state IF I kept smoking. Yes ... smoking really does screw-up your lungs. I like being able to breath without an oxygen tank ... take long walks ... swim ... it-s your choice ... life or a living death ....
Smokers are having hard time just to quit smoking but what can I really suggest is to do it with your own will and with your heart and mind showing eagerness to reach your goals not because somebody requested it to you. Stopping abruptly can lead to further problems. You may experience some feelings of withdrawal but you can also manage it thoroughly. Start it with eliminating the maximum sticks you may consume a day and do it gradually.
This programme focuses on using your mind and the art of visualization to draw in universal life force energy, to not only protect yourself from disease, but to help you stop smoking. This method has been tried and tested and proven to work!!

Good Luck :)
You can try over-the counter herbal pills, nicorette, the patch, prescription pills like zyban, or cold turkey. Stop buying them and reduce yourself to bumming one when necessary. there-s also many stop-smoking sites that will help you. Good luck!
Just throw the last butt and forget that there is something called cigarettes in the world.
Try to keep yourself engaged as best as you can.
Leave the Company of smokers.
the best way is to quit cold turkey also chew on a straw or gum it helps but the best way is to find something to keep your mind off of it trust me it works
you have to either will yourself to do it or find a substitute, it-s your choice
Overdose yourself with sigarettes, the next day you-ll be so sick and disgusted you-ll never smoke again.
go online to how to quit smoking or other websites and the websites tell you how to stop.
you don-t quit for anyone but yourself. when you start worrying about your health...THEN maybe you-ll quit.

Is it ever easy to quit smoking? please answer? -

Is it ever easy to quit smoking? please answer? -

My dad smoke for like 3 yrs ? Then he promised he would quit when we moved to our new house. And he did. He really QUIT. just like tht. (its been 10 yrs) he did cheat one tho when he was REALLY pissed off - stressed. then he completely stopped.

.. im just really confused. was he like not as addicted or something ? ( im 15 btw )
it all depends on the person-s will.
well, i smoked for like... 6 months (quit by the way) because i was curious; i wanted to see what was so good about smoking, found out nothing was.
i just smoked because my friends did. one time though, i felt really light-headed and kind of dizzy. i believe i consumed too much nicotine. so your body might give you a sign when you should stop and i did stop after that day because i didn-t want to be addicted ^^.
but since your dad smoked for 3 years, he could-ve and should-ve been addicted. if your dad didn-t really inhale the cigarettes all the way, then it wouldn-t be too hard to quit. but if he did inhale them all the way, that means he was able to quit because of his love for you and your family.
It is never easy to quit smoking. Your dad had to make some major personal changes in himself, his life, and his routine to accomplish it and it took more than just guts. If you ever wonder somedays whether your Dad loves you and your family, you don-t have to go to far to see that he does.

Every person is different, every brain, every receptor in each person-s brain is different than another person-s. So we cannot judge others as failures or weak when they try again and again without success.
Each try is a step to success.
I was a packet a day smoker, i started when i was 14 years old, when there were no health risks mentioned like these days......i went cold turkey and have been off the ciggies for 8 years, i still now and then crave one especially when i go out for a few drinks...so i guess i will always be an addict!
Well my dad smoked for about 10 years? He tried quitting 3 times in the duration. One in 1994, 2000, and a couple of months ago. Well now he has finally done it. He told me that it was really hard for him. I just guess you really have to be mentally about it.

How do I make my BF want to quit Smoking? -

How do I make my BF want to quit Smoking? -

I know he has to want to but how can I inflict that upon him? His father smokes and my bf has smoked since he was 12 hes 23 now
Happened to me too, my gf wanted me to quit but it was so hard, the thing is that i wanted but i couldn-t.

I just looked around the internet and found all kind of techniques and motivations but while i was searching in google on different methods, i found this website: http://www.thequitsmokingsecret.com which pretty much helped me a lot. Take a look and maybe show it to him.

Hope that helps
It-s time to do some thinking. You knew he was a smoker when you started a relationship, didn-t you? You obviously saw other things in him which were more important to you than the fact that he smoked. Now those things matter less, and you are starting to be bothered by his bad habit. The question is, how many other -bad habits- of his will begin to bother you? When people tell you that you cannot -make- him want to quit, they are telling you what you already know. The focus needs to be on why this is suddenly so important when earlier it wasn-t. Does this relationship need some evaluation? That-s the question you need to be asking, because you are unlikely to be happy unless you can accept him the way he is, smoking and all.
Unfortunately hun it-s one of the most difficult things to give up - he-ll only do it when HE wants to not when you-re telling him to. If he-s smoke for nearly half his life already then it-s gonna be very difficult. You need to talk to him - just tell him that you don-t like that he smokes and you would appreciate it if he didn-t around you. If you want him to quit - you want the facts. 1) Smoking increases the chances of lung cancer - my uncle died last may with cancer he was diagnosed december 2006 and died may 2007 - it was incurable so it-s no myth - increases risk of throat cancer 2) Smoking increases the risk of other respiratory diseases, emphysema, bronchitis which could lead to him being on oxygen in later life - permanently. 3) It increases blood pressure increases risks of stroke - heart attacks. 4) It stinks, it-s unsightly, it tastes like your kissing an ash tray. It clings to your clothes, hair. Ruins your teeth.

I got my partner to quit smoking but thats only because of how upset it made me because of my uncle. If he loves you - it-s something you detest he would stop for you but it-s not really as simple as that.. lets say he would at least cut back
he will know the consequences of smoking and no amount of nagging, telling him the benefits of stopping and the dangers of not will make him quit. Unfortunately if he doesn-t want to quit then he won-t. He will be addicted and like all addictions it is very hard to quit.

if it is such a huge issue then tell him you will leave him if he doesn-t stop. If that doesn-t make him want to stop then I guess you know he loves smoking more than you!
show him pictures of the consequences of smoking
and if he truly loves you, he would listen to your concerns
you cant force someone to quit honey, otherwise your as bad as the goverment =/
Quit putting out until he quits
Let him make his own damn decisions woman!
Instead of telling him to quit, join yourself. heh heh
tell him you dnt wna kiss an ash trey

What is the first thing to do to quit smoking? -

What is the first thing to do to quit smoking? -

Yes, you have to want to quit like everyone says. Use the nicoteine patch...it helps a lot. Get gum, peanuts, etc. Get something to keep your hands busy...a small cushy ball to squeeze. Go see the ventillator patients unit at your local hospital. Then you-ll see reasons why you should quit ASAP.
#1 You need to have a desire to quit

w/o this factor it-s usless to try BTDT about 10 times
Stop buying them.
will power, make yourself quit.
You Got To Want To Quit.
A support group.
Somebody to help and encourage you to stop.

All that other stuff is useless unless you have somebody that wants you to quit.
Then, you won-t need any of that other stuff.
The first thing you have to do is have a STRONG desire to quit. If you don-t, no program will work. Then decide which of the many programs out there sounds like it might work for you. If you fail the first time, don-t give up. Try again, maybe in a different way the second time. For the first month, do your best to stay away from smoking triggers like clubs. I will be celebrating one year smoke free on February 28th. I went for three private sessions of hypnosis and it worked. Good Luck.
i quit last week
get some candies, nuts, something to drink that you like(a lot)
get yourself busy
dont buy cigs
get fresh air
think negative about smoking
You have to really want to.
First, you got to put your mind to it, and then you need to try and do the smoke patch or the nicotine chews that make you stop smoking.
Mentally prepare yourself. Give yourself a few weeks with a date in mind when you are going to quit. Smoke all you want until then but when your date gets here, you stop. Most importantly, throw all your cigarettes away so they are not there to temp you.

Good luck with quitting. You don-t realize how bad you feel when you smoke until you quit.
