How exactly do you quit smoking pot?!? -

I have a friend who wants to quit smoking pot. He asked me to help him quit. I don-t know how to? How do you quit smoking pot anyway. What do I tell him to do?
hmm, take one day at the time. just like the AA group. smoking less a day, don-t buy a lot. good luck
Well, its not chemically addictive, so there are no physical issues.

Under what circumstances do they use? I mean, is the person actually emotionally addicted, or do they just have a hard time saying no around friends who are using?

If they are actually emotionally addicted, they may need to see a mental health professional. Emotional addiction is a result of long term abuse and sometimes results from self treating depression.

If they are just haivng a hard time saying no with friends, they need new friends. If they are real friends, they would respect that the person doesnt want to use and would not use around them. If they are harrassing the person to use, then they arent your real friends. If the person is feeling left out, then find a group of friends that arent using.

How did you quit smoking ? -

I am finally going to do it and I need practical advice from people who have been there. Please don-t send a bunch of links because I won-t check them out. I am also against substituting one addiction for another (gum). I prefer to do this without any kind of -medicine-.
You said you don-t want a substitute. I tried that and it didn-t work. What did work for me WAS a substitute. I read about addictions and how to stop. Nicotine is a chemical addiction AND a mental addiction. You can stop one, the mental first then address the physical by weaning.
What I did was get literature on smoking from the lung association and the Cancer society, all free. I read how many people quit and took what I thought may help me.

I also, and this is VERY important, Got a nicotine patch. I was told not to use the strongest but the next one down. Read the instructions. You put one on every am. It HELPS. I forgot to put one on once and I was a crabby B all day. AND you can after awhile reduce the dose and wean yourself off of them. That part is easy!!! Do it! You are an addict!

I picked a quit date and quit. I made plans. That day I went places where I couldn-t smoke, the mall, movies etc. I exercised also and drank tons of water.
I also stayed away, as much as poss. from people who smoked! I had many mad at me. I didn-t care I did this for ME.

There are also triggers that tell you to smoke, getting into your car, talking on phone, first thing in morning. Have a substitute, Carrots, a straw to suck on. it really did help! and pray!

Have a plan. If you are going somewhere that people you know will smoke have a plan of what you will do instead! and do it! Don-t drink alcohol! I even changed from coffee to tea.
It took me 5 trys but finally did it. Whew, I-m free for 11 years now and I don-t want a cig at ALL-ick.
Also seeing my mother who has emphysema struggle for breath was a real motivator. Now she has heart probs from smoking too. She-s suffered a great deal from smoking, a slow painful death!
Good luck and God bless.
Because i never smoked

I used Nicorette gum. It helped somewhat with my body-s addiction to nicotine. The first 3 days are torture...so bad that you physically hurt all over. But if you get past that, the rest is pretty easy. I told everyone that I knew a week before that I was going to quit and that I was going to need their help. So when the day finally came, they all checked up on me and told me how great I was doing. Everybody at work watched me and made sure that I wasn-t smoking, so my support group was what helped me the most. According to the package, you-re supposed to chew Nicorette for about 12 weeks, but I didn-t even finish the treatment; I think I chewed it for about 4 weeks and that was all I needed. Good luck.
I tried over and over again. And I stopped by taking a break from it all for a few days. I tried stopping consuming alcohol and caffeine, sugar and high fat foods. I started walking and eating small meals. And I started writing things down more. But it doesn-t matter that I succeeded this way. Some do less. Some do more. If you have made your mind up, keep doing it til it works. Good luck.
First, count how many cigarettes you smoke a day. Reduce it to half each week. For instance, if you smoke 1 pack of 20 cigarettes each day this week, next week make one pack enough for two days. And so on and so on. After some time, you-ll be able to reach just one cigarette a day and that-s quite the perfect time to quit.
Second effort is to make the cigarettes count for each time you take it. Take me for instance, I like to smoke with my morning coffee, after lunch, after dinner, or when I-m in the bathroom doing number two. So take your cigarettes ONLY at that time (around 5 each day) , then reduce it to what you like the best. Like ONLY after you eat, or ONLY in the bathroom.
I gave up smoking four months ago. But I did not quit. I just call myself a social smoker because I manage to hold myself to smoke only one cigarette in one week and that-s on the weekend when I-m hanging out with my friends.
Good luck. I hope this is usefull.
Hi,

I quit this time last year having had a 30 a day habit. I-d tried and failed with allsorts until I a friend recommended this program - see below.

It also came with a 100% money back guarantee and has a 90% success rate - can-t say fairer than that!

All the best.
dun not take those gums, it doesn-t work. u may stop for a while, but after, u can become a worst smoker. 1.) never find a subsitute to it. once u get bored, u-ll turn back again. 2.) give yrself a gd reason to quit. I told myself to quit smoking when i was pregnant b-cos of the health of my baby. and i give birth, i jus dun feel the desire to smoke again. 3.) dun force yrself into a time limit. give yr body and mind some time to adapt to the changes in it. 4.) cut down the quantity one at a time. u can try limit yrself to smoke only after a meal, or only at night, or 3 times a day... sort of like rehabitate yr mind and body. 5.) stop drinking alcohol for a period of time. do u realise that drinking and smoking are best friends? my friend dun smoke most of the time, but when we go clubbing, she-ll starts smoking after a few drinks. 6.) if u are concern abt yr looks, tell yrself tat smokes make u looked older, look at the mirror and tell yrself tat. point at those lines running around yr eyes area, forehead and laughlines, look at them, see how dry and wrinkle they are. 7.) smokes makes yr mouth smells foul... tell yrself tat too. my hubby smokes too, and i find it too hard to kiss him. thank god i-ve quit.
I belive u can make it... good lucks...

Quitting smoking is difficult no doubt about it. I smoked three packs a day for over 40 years. I stopped once for about a year and started up again. I-ve been off of them for five years now. Sadly, I still have a twinge for a drag now and then, but that-s the way it goes. So, not trying to dissuade you from cutting back slowly but, the only way I was able to stop was to just throw the pack in the trash and never pick up another one again. It isn-t easy, but if you set your mind to it you can do it. Cutting back slowly just draws out the agony to me and lessens the chances of quitting. Cold turkey, if you can do it makes it final, and once you get over the physical need for nicotine in a few days you can find ways to deal with stress other than picking up a cancer stick. Good luck, really hope you make it.
I started when I was 12. I quit for 2 weeks, when I was your age. I was going to quit again at 30. Now I-m 40. I-ve been going to hypnotherapy. It-s sort of and sort of not working for me.
Something in my brain has shifted, but not enough because I type to you with a fag hanging from my lips. I decided to stop for 2 days to see if I could and I did. Surprisingly, the withdrawals were nowhere near as bad as I had built up in my own head. I bought a packet on the third day. I don-t always light up first thing in the morning anymore. Sometimes I wait until about 6pm in the evening before I weaken and go out and buy a small packet, but I always cave in because my brain says................I need it.

My advice to you is this.

You can use, cold turkey, cutting back, patches, gum, pills, hypnotherapy, inhalers and every quit smoking trick out there but at some stage you are going to have to deal with the TRIGGER inside your head and somehow find it in yourself to be stronger than it.

My trigger/s are anger, fear and just plain old habit. Until we learn to deal with our triggers we will always reach for a cigarette.

The only way to help reduce withdrawals is to -acknowledge- them and talk ourselves through them. Apparently over time, it gets easier and come to visit you less and less. If I were you I would ananlyze your own triggers and work out a strategy of how you are going to deal with them when they come.

I find it very hard to tell myself that I can-t smoke for the rest of my life. I find it easier to break it down into days and tell myself that I won-t smoke -today.- It-s all mind games with yourself.

All I can say to you is this. It-s not going to be easy. BUT......whilever you are doing something.......or trying to do something......it-s better than doing nothing.....and...you are doing GREAT!.

If You Sick Of Trying to Quit Smoking By Using Patches, Gum, Sprays or Pills ...That Fail Every Time? Now

YOU can Kick The Habit For Good In Just 38 Minutes - 13 Seconds ...Guaranteed!
Like many others I smoked when I was young but managed to kick the habit before I was totally hooked, I was lucky and suffered no damage to my health. But for a close friend it was different, even though she was only a moderate smoker, her health was being seriously affected and getting worse with time. Now this is where I really sympathize with smokers. She like many smokers knew the dangers and had genuinely tried many different ways to quit smoking. She tried patches, hypnosis and read several books on the subject of quitting, nothing had worked. She always ended back at square one, knowing she needed to quit, but how, nothing had a lasting effect. That was until she tried Smoke Deter.

So why am I telling this, because I played a small part in her success. You see I heard about Smoke Deter through my son, his best mate had quit smoking using Smoke Deter and I convinced my friend to try it. She was very skeptical, but I was so concerned about her health that I said that if it didn-t work I would pay for it, so she had nothing to lose and that convinced her. That was a year and five months ago, it worked and she is no longer a smoker, she has never has the urge to smoke since she quit using Smoke Deter, that-s a fact and it-s the only product she tried that she-s happy to tell others about.

Smoke Deter is an herbal based liquid oral spray that is used 3 times a day, this is also supplemented with herbal pills which when combined is very effective at reducing your nicotine cravings. How quickly it works depends on the extent of your habit, it can work as quickly as 2 weeks or may take 3 months, regardless of the time, your health is worth the effort to kick your smoking habit.

It-s worth noting that Smoke Deter is safe, natural and has no known side effect and no known drug interactions. It-s highly rated on many stop-smoking product review sites, often with genuine testimonials from people that have also kicked the smoking habit using it. So I am not the only one that knows Smoke Deter gets the desired result.

Smoke Deter also offers a lifetime free membership support program, so you are never on your own, help is available 24 hours a day if you feel the need, like if your resolve is weakening. There is also a free Stop Smoking Relaxation Audio MP3 available, it might not be for everybody but my friend said it was definitely a help to her, it changed the way she thought about smoking. That-s what I like about Smoke Deter it changes your whole attitude to smoking, it works on your mind as well as your body. Unfortunately I-ve seen the damage smoking has done within my own family and also in my circle of friends, consequently I-m fully aware just how hard it is to stop smoking without some kind of help. I-ve seen first hand how Smoke Deter helped my friend quit smoking and so it-s not surprising she can-t say enough about it. So if this article brings Smoke Deter to your attention and as a result helps you kick the smoking habit, then for me writing about it has been worthwhile.

So if you-ve been wondering if these quit smoking products work, well I guess some do and some don-t, but one that has my recommendation is Smoke Deter, I-ve personally seen it work when other methods failed. I-m happy to pass that information on so that others looking for a safe natural way to quit can try Smoke Deter if they wish.

If you would like more helpful information on Smoke Deter or other free quit smoking information, you may like to visit the source link below - It seems to confirm some of my comments and is dedicated to helping smokers improve their health, fitness and beat the smoking habit.
Yeah that doesn-t sound bad. It-s hard to go cold turkey on such an addictive substance. Try to add the special gum. Maybe that will help.
quitting smoking would be a great new years resolution, think positivily about it, your saving money, staying healthy, living longer. You see these commercials about not being able to breathe properly and lieing in a hospital bed family beside you saying goodbye, you dont want this being so young so stop while you still can, good luck!.
Choose some nicotine patches or switch to gum. It-s a nice alternative.
88pct of people who quit on new years...don-t make it..
84pct of people who quit on birthdays.....don-t make it....

pick another day...mine was 1/27/04.......after smoking 30 plus years....
i quit cold turky a about two years ago.. all it took was an xbox 360 and a week away from work and friends.
the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Tips to quit smoking anyone? -

Hey guys, anyone know what the best way is the quit smoking? I heard cold turkey isnt too amazing, but I really want to quit. Is there a --gentler-- way of quitting then cold turkey? lol
I quit almost 19 years ago and I can still remember the day. I realized I had smoked almost a pack and it was only about 1:30 in the afternoon. As I walked by a trash container, I threw what was left in the garbage and never lit another one. For the first few days I chewed on sunflower seeds. That kept my hands and mouth busy. When I felt the urge to inhale, I took a deep breath. That got me through that part. Just take a breath like you do when you inhale. Take one day at a time. You will crave but within a few minutes it leaves you and gets easier as time goes on. You sound like you-re ready to quit. That-s the first step. Just keep telling yourself that you are going to make it. Good luck, you can do it!!
I am trying myself..I am currently smoking 4 packs a day..lol!
OF COURSE- i-m glad you asked! :)
Actually change the type of cigerettes you use- they have ones that are basically pure nic. and no other additives. what gets most people anymore is they put so many additives in the cigerettes and things to make it a habit- when you use a nic. patch or something it doesn-t work because you-re also withdrawaling from everything else. So first - find these cigerettes - i heard they are a little more expensive- but worth it in the end. think of how much you-ll be saving in the end!
There-s also herbs to help suppress the addiction as well. after you-ve got used to and cut down on the nic. cigerettes - try using a nic. patch or gum or whatever. good luck....and tc
I am not sure if you have heard this one but try chewing gum first, then there is a got line that can help you. its from stamp out smoking or something like that.
I recomend you quit lightly...more effective. For ex. if you smoke i dk....10 a day....go for a week smoking 8-9 a day for a week...do it slowly that way it enances the effect.
Hi,
I really empathise with you, I quit my 20 a day habit in a pain-free way this time last year!
No stress, no cravings, no weight gain, no pills, patches or gums.
The program I followed was recommended by a friend and now boasts a 90% success rate and is 100% fully guaranteed - can-t say fairer than that

All the best..

Ways that have helped you quit smoking. Suggestions needed please :)? -

I have been smoking since about september and I really would like to quit for my mom. She has known many people with lung cousin and a close family friend has very very serious throat cancer because of smoking and I know it really upsets her to see me smoking. I frequently smoke a lot when I drink and also all my close friends smoke so being with them is like having the temptation in my face. Are there anyways that have really worked to help you quit ?
Well, all i can say is this...Just tell yourself no. It-s funny because I JUST started smoking in February of 08 and I-m 29. It-s hard for me cuz like you said, I-m around smokers all the time. Basically, I get the urger for one, especially when I-m drinking, but I also feel it-s such a disgusting habit...Just tell yourself no and let your friends know you are quitting and if you ask them for one, no matter what, they should tell you no.

I often think about cigarettes all the time, but I know if i go smoke, it will stop my progress even if its- only been 5 days and although I say, -hey, it-s just 1 or 2,- I-m stil disappointed in myself.
I smoked for 27 yrs-about 1 - 1/2 packs a day. I quit -cold turkey- a little over 6 yrs ago,I did it for ME,not because somebody else bitched or lectured about it. I bought my very first brand new car and used the money I was spending on smokes for the monthly payments and kept telling myself that if I went back to smoking I-d have to give up my car,couldn-t afford both. I loved my new car and I love me,so I stayed off of them. Good luck.
I lost my mom to lung cancer back in 96-, she died a miserable death from years of smoking; Imagine having to breathe through a small straw that-s what it felt like to her. I miss her so much and my life has never been the same since. Please do not put yourself or your family through this pain. This is the best advice I can give you.... Good luck and God Bless.
the patch
I was one of those I-ll-quit-smoking-when-they-pull-the-pac… kind of smokers. Loved everything about it. Totally in denial of what it was doing to me.

After years of badgering from spouse, doctor, strangers on the street - - I finally asked Dr. about help to quit. He prescribed Zyban.

Now, mind you, I was only half-a$$ed trying to quit. I thought I-d try the pills, then go back to smoking, swearing the drug didn-t work.

Much to my surprise and chagrin, the drugs worked -- within DAYS! I just stopped liking the taste. Well, that-s not true. The truth is they had no taste at all anymore. After 22+ years of up to 2 packs-a-day, I quit smoking in about a week.

Now, the habits are another thing . . . but once you kill the ENJOYMENT of the cigarettes, and the cravings, the habits are easy to give up.

I-m 10 years smoke free, and it was the greatest thing I-ve ever done for myself.

When you do quit - - should you ever think about going back - - just make a list of all the good things that have happened since you quit, like being able to walk up stairs without wheezing, or being able to spend a couple of extra $$s on yourself that you used to - - literally - - burn through.

I wish you the very best of luck.

How can I quit smoking. Ive tried all the things @ the drugstore. Its the hardest thing ive ever tried todo -

I can only offer a suggestion on how to cut down which might make it easier to quit. Start thinking about when you smoke. At a certain bar or club (alcohol), in the morning, with coffee, doing make up, with certain friends. Then avoid the situation or delay or stop smoking during the identified activity. Stop going to the club as often, make a short or long term decision about your smoking friends, stop drinking alcohol, smoke one less cigarette in the morning etc. You can also make it a rule not to smoke in your house or car. This includes family and friends. You should also know that nicotine directly affects the pleasure center of your brain. This is one reason it is so hard to quit and why you may smoke more when under stress.
Definitley try Zyban. It worked for my mom, and she had been smoking for like 20 years. It helped her right away. But it won-t work by its self, you need to really try. She also chewed lots a gum, still does actually. She has been smoke free for about 3 years. Good luck, and congrats for trying to stop. Don-t give up.
chew bubble gum
try not to be with a smoker
Congrats on trying...it is a hard habit to break. Some people have luck taking mild antidepressants (Zyban). Call and ask your Dr for a prescription. Good Luck!
