How can quit smoking easily??? -

I have been try use nicotine patch but is not work for me.i smoke everytime when i free or every 1 hours. Please teach me HOW CAN I QUIT SMOKING!!!!! Thank you
well when my husband quit smoking he first went to his doctor and asked for help and they put him on wellbutin it made him cry a lot so he quit those and dicited to just put them down and quit cold turkey and i gave the friend down the street his cig and he was a bare to live with put it worked and he has been smoke free for over three years.
Try the gum. Worked for a friend of mine.

Otherwise, see a doctor (general practitioner) and they-ll give you a professional opinion of what works for their patients.
When you know these facts, quitting is not that hard any more.

Smoking and the Skin

The skin is affected by tobacco smoke in at least two ways. Firstly, tobacco smoke released into the environment has a drying effect on the skin’s surface. Secondly, because smoking restricts blood vessels, it reduces the amount of blood flowing to the skin, thus depleting the skin of oxygen and essential nutrients. Some research suggests that smoking may reduce the body’s store of Vitamin A, which provides protection against some skin-damaging agents produced by smoking. [1] Another likely explanation is that squinting in response to the irritating nature of the smoke, and the puckering of the mouth when drawing on a cigarette, cause wrinkling around the eyes and mouth. [2]

Skin damaged by smoke has a greyish, wasted appearance. Recent research has shown that the skin ageing effects of smoking may be due to increased production of an enzyme that breaks down collagen in the skin. [3] Collagen is the main structural protein of the skin which maintains skin elasticity. The more a person smokes, the greater the risk of premature wrinkling. Smokers in their 40s often have as many facial wrinkles as non-smokers in their 60s. In addition to facial wrinkling, smokers’ may develop hollow cheeks through repeated sucking on cigarettes: this is particularly noticeable in under-weight smokers and can cause smokers to look gaunt. 2 A South Korean study of smokers, non-smokers and ex-smokers aged 20 to 69 found that the current smokers had a higher degree of facial wrinkling than non-smokers and ex-smokers. Past smokers who smoked heavily at a younger age revealed less facial wrinkling than current smokers. [4]

The Chief Medical Officer highlighted the link between smoking and wrinkled, damaged skin, in his 2003 annual report. The report noted that smokers’ skin can be prematurely aged by between 10 and 20 years and, although the damaging effects of cigarette smoke on the skin are irreversible, further deterioration can be avoided by stopping smoking. [5]
Wow, it-s going to be tough. I don-t think that there is an -easy- way, but there are some nice tricks that can help you take some control your habit. It seems that for you, smoking is very automatic, so it has control over your life. Here-s what I would try. Every time you decide you want a cigarette, make yourself drink a whole glass or bottle of water. You-ll have to become more aware of when you smoke. You won-t just light up automatically, you-ll have to think, hey ok, I wanna smoke, but I need to get some water and drink it first. It will also help you reduce, since you-re stomach can only hold so much water. It-s also really good for your body to drink alot of water, so you can offset the negative aspect of smoking with something that-s positive. Also, exercise will help. The natural adrenaline that you produce during exercise will stop cravings. If you run, Nordic-walk or power-walk for example, the adrenaline will subdue cravings for the period of the exercise and for a period of time, usually a few hours, after the exercise. Some additional tips: Try smoking less of your cigarette. Instead of smoking the whole thing, try smoking just 3/4ths of it. Eating smaller meals can also help reduce cravings. These alone will probably not be enough to make you quit, but it gives you more control over your habit. You-ll be aware of when you smoke and ways to replace you-re nicotine cravings. Then it-s up to you to make conscious moves toward reducing your nicotine intake. Hope this helps and good luck!
i smoked for 17 years and one day i woke up and said today is the day i quit. i have not had one since that day and that was 6 months ago and i am doing great i do not crave them anymore, infact i can not stand the smell of the smoke.
Try the patch, I hear it works.

There are a few differnt effective ways, you have to find the one that works for you.
There is:

Cold Turkey
Gradual slow down
Chewing gum in place of smoking
Wearing a rubber band and snapping yourself when you want to smoke.
Chantix - Prescription to stop smoking
Nicotine Patch
Hypnosis

I-m sure there are a lot others but those are the most used.

Good Luck! It-s not easy.
I used a product called -Wellbutrin-. It is used to elavate one-s mood. I took it for 2 weeks and it killed the nicotine craving. I haven-t smoked since (8 years now).

A prescription is needed to obtain it.
wil power. think positive not negative.. think that smokin is bad for you and your health and it can hurt the environment..

positive thinking !

best answer please? i really need points.. thnxx
There is no -best way,- as different methods work for different people.

When I quit smoking (the second time), I
a) used the patch.
b) made cigarette analogs. I took an unused cigarette filter, pushed it into a straw, and cut the straw to mimic the lenth of a cigarette. I made several of these.

Whenever I got the urge to smoke, I would take one of my fake cigarettes, hold it like I would a real cig, and took drags off of it as I would a real cig. The patch took care of the nicotine, the straw/cig helped me to FEEL like I was smoking. Eventually, I was able to need it less and less. It looked sort of funny to be driving along hanging a red, yellow, and white straw out the window and flicking imaginary ash off the end of it.

I do not know if it will work for you, but the straw method is realatively cheap to try. It heally does help to have the patch at the same time, however.

There are many ways to help yourself - nicotine patches, gum, drinking water every time you feel like smoking (it-s what I did), exercising (to feel the benefits of being a non-smoker), keeping yourself busy so you don-t think about cigarettes too often etc. But none of those will help if you don-t have a good reason to stop. I-ve tried quitting many times but the real success came after I realized that cigarettes were controlling my life and it pissed me off real bad :-) My dad quit after 40 years of heavy smoking because of ill health (I hope that-s not why you are trying, yet). Quitting smoking takes a lot of will power and one must be at least a bit stubborn to make it through the process. Ah, and another piece of advice, try avoiding activities that were connected with smoking while you were a smoker - like drinking alcohol, having long coffee breaks etc, instead go for walks in the fresh air and swimming in the pool (this way you-ll actually get the feeling of the damage cigarettes have done on your lungs). Hm... and when you watch your friends with cigarettes in their mouths laugh on the inside at the thought that you are so much stronger than these pitiful addicts... I hope I helped a little :-) Good-luck!
Never started to have to quit.
I never started.
I quit back before there were patches and medicine. I quit by chewing tobacco. It satified my nicotine urge. Later I quit chewing because it grossed out the women!
This probably won-t help you very much, but here goes anyway. I tried to start smoking today after twenty two years without a cigarette. I really tried, I went to the shop and bought twenty Benson and Hedges and a box of matches. (Aren-t cigarettes a price now). Anyway I popped one in my mouth and lit the match, but do you know try as I may I just couldn-t do it. So there you are, you wanted to stop and I tried to start.Life-s cruel isn-t it?
Buddy .. u need to decide firmly that u want to QUIT. In mind and heart. then u will find many ways.. i Quit after a one month try.. i reduced to 50 % each time and used to chew Gums when i felt irritating.. chewing gums mde me feel good. After a couple of months i Quit fully
After 20 years I quit using Zyban. It-s a pill you get from the doctor. You take it for 2 weeks and trust me you will be so happy when the day comes that you can have your last one. It worked for me but you have to want to give up. I quit 6 months ago.
its mind over matter...i don-t care what anyone says..those drugs and patches they give you..they don-t work...tell your self you can get threw it slowly cut down and then just stop...it will be hard for a few weeks but if you keep telling your self you can do it,,you will. try chewing gum or lolly pops.. keep your self occupied.. and good luck.. remember your mind if greater then anything and if you keep telling yourself you can do it ...you can
I guess all those people who said just do it never had the habit. For me it was multiple times of trying and using many methods when I did try. What worked was finally being sick of coughing and not being able to smell anything. I got sick of smoking. What helped was Wellbutrin and a support group. That was almost 6 years ago and I haven-t had a cigarette since then. Not that I haven-t wanted one I just haven-t lit up. Much easier to do now then it was in the beginning and the urge comes much less often. I guess you could say I am almost a non-smoker now.
As Nike ad suggest , - just do it - .
bottom line is you have to want to!

It-s almost 3pm and I haven-t smoked a cigarette yet, but then again, I went to class and went to bed afterwards. Should I cut down or quit cold turkey or get patches or anything else?
Get rid of all your cigarettes. STOP BUYING. Quitting cold turkey is impossible and if people smoke around you then that makes it even less attainable. Even though I haven-t completely stopped smoking I-ve cut back a lot, which makes me sort of believe that smoking isn-t as addictive as people make it out to be. The only times I smoke is on the weekends after I-ve downed a couple of cocktails and bum a cig or 2 from nearby smokers. Other than that I keep myself busy and I honestly never crave one. Well that-s what works for me at least. Try my way, if not go for the nicotine patches or gum. But stay away from Chantix!
If you want to stop smoking then it is really important to know, what works and what does not. You can be really motivated to quit, but if the methods you are using are not effective, then you will not get the results. The key is to find the best method and once you have done that, then quitting smoking will become easy.

Right now there is an incredible effective and quick method to help people stop smoking forever, it is called Neuro-Linguistic-Programming or NLP. This is a form of psychotherapy that is designed for people like you to stop smoking.

In a test that was done using NLP, 97.2% of smokers out of 5000, where still smoke free 6 months later. NLP eliminates the psychological cravings for nicotine. The physical cravings for nicotine actually disappear after around one week, but the psychological cravings persist.

None of the other methods really concentrate on the psychological aspects of smoking but NLP does. It makes quitting smoking very easy and quick for people. For a person, who has struggled with smoking for a very long time, may think it is not possible, but it is. There are not risks or side-effects involved with this treatment, it is completely natural and safe.

If you want to quit smoking without using -will power- or experiencing any cravings what-so-ever, the quit smoking today program is the answer you-re looking for. It has an incredible success rate of 92.7%
Have you tried a support group??

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
if you use the patch, you will have to wean yourself off the patch.. Try cold turkey. They also have chantix if you need more help.. Just remember..This quitting smoking is the hardest thing you will ever do but you only have to do it once...

I-ve tried the patch, the gum, and tried quitting cold turkey... none of these has worked for me. Any other suggestions?
You could try a presciption of Chantix (a pill).
It is designed to fool the receptors in your brain to making them believe you are getting your normal quota of nicotine. After about a week or so, you will notice the cigarettes starting to taste nasty and that should make it easier to quit.
your body is craving for smoking and it wont stop... pills gums and other medication doesnt work at all because THAT stuff doesnt solve your problem at ALL or even help you!

its just you that is doing it... you got to do it yourself whether you want to quit smoking or not
Chantix. Significantly more effective than other quit smoking drugs. If not that, Wellbutrin/Zyban and perhaps combination therapy -- ask your doctor. If not that, do a search for -mini e cigarette.-
Google this, Rapid Smoking.
You can do it at some smoking clinics, but if that costs you, which I bet it would do, I dont see why you couldnt do it at home.

Talk to your gp

My son is 12 and he smokes cigarettes, cigars, marijuana, and cigarillos like theres no tomorrow!!!! i have taken him to jail, hes been locked up for 24 hours, he just doesnt get the clue.. i need some help and advice...
i suspect there is trouble in your home, more specifically you, if he behaves this way. you need to change first, by loving and respecting yourself first (it seems that you are not the most sensitive or most diplomatic person as displayed by some of your answers, to say the least) and eventually everything including your son will follow your example.
You can get in trouble for a minor doing that. I would suggest boot camp, look online and Im sure you can find one.
None of those things are free. He is twelve years old. Where does he get his money? If it is from you, maybe you should think about cutting him off. His friends might front him for a while, but it won-t be long before they cut him off also.
For some, nicotine is needed for a missing receptor in the brain. This was discovered when a shrink noticed certain of his patients were chain smokers. Is he depressed or hyper? That could be your clue that he needs medication. If he-s doing it just to annoy you, well, I can-t help you there.
Pray, always show him you love him, never agree with him smoking, not even if you think he-ll do the contrary. If my dad would have agreed with me smoking, I-d be smoking even today, but I have stopped a long time ago.
Try to keep him busy, very busy, talk to his freinds and see if they are willing to help. Friends are important in a decision like this.
Give him a lot of fruit.
Hope it works!
You-ll have a tough time forcing him to quit. All of that is addictive, and I suspect he is doing much of this for attention (or was until he got hooked on nicotine)

As below, cut off his cash and watch who he hangs out with. You might want to hang out with him more as well. If his time is filled with other activities, he-ll have less chance to smoke and make other mischief.
first of all good luck, keep trying and burn his smokes, if that doesnt work have him lock up again. or boot camp for kids.

get pregnant...o ur a guy go to jail j/k...ummm wing yourself off like a pack a day to half to 1 then none....go to cigarrest.com and they have free pills to help quit....patches worked for my mom for a while and she is a heavy smoker
Shock Therapy, every time you want a cigarette lick a battery...the cravings will pass.
the pill CHANTIX and will power
wish i could figure that out myself.... i have heard bad thing about that pill chantix a lot of mental problems be careful
I dont know, but rest assured when you get Lung cancer you will be able to quit with no issue otherwise you can easily have lung failure.
Try cigarrest.com or try weaning your self off. Say you smoke 10 cigarretes a day. every 2 days, take off a cigarette. So tomorrow and sunday, you could smoke 9 cigarettes, monday and tuesday smoke 8 cigarettes, etc etc.

And remember... WILL POWER!!!! Remind yourself of the dangers every time you want a cigarrette, remind yourself that it will take 7 seconds (or is it minutes?) off your life.

Print this out:
http://www.freewebs.com/soaring_sphincte…

and tape it to your cigarrette box.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!
“I know a man who gave up smoking, drinking, sex, and rich food. He was healthy right up to the day he killed himself.”

I am 22 years old and just quit smoking two months ago...? -

I feel great and have been participating in physical activities such as tennis and jogging. I smoked a pack a day for 7 years before I quit cold turkey. My question is will those seven years have any long term effect on any part of my body.
I doubt it, takes a bit longer to have serious long term affects. But everyone is different, so hard to say.

Congrats on quitting :)
The Chances for lung cancer do drop after you quit smoking however the damage may already done. Theory is for ever year you smoked it takes 2 years to heal so in 14 years your lungs should be clean however the risk is still higher for you than someone who never smoked.
Maybe, maybe not, its a 50 50 on that!Thats good buddy keep it up, but allow more time to really tell the differences in you!
I can-t verify this scientifically, but I-ve read that if you can quit smoking by 26 your lungs can heal themselves over time.

YOU ARE AWESOME FOR QUITTING!!! WAY TO GO!!!

WHOO_HOOOOOO!!!!
Yea proble.......... but they would of been worst if you were still smoking. And CONGRADULATIONS =) =) on quitting thats so awsome. =) Have a wonderfull day!!! =)
Smoking is good for you!

Choose another habit/hobby like, go to the gym - workout, keep yourself busy (study, play sports, etc). Some day you are going to quit because you at least thinking about it.
my doc told me to make a schedule for each day.
for example, smoke at 9 am, then 12-3-6-9pm....
do this for 1 week, then make it 4 hours apart and so on... works good
My husband quit on wellbuterin (generic for Zyban) and my grandma and sister in law both quit on commit. These are both prescription drugs.
I weened my way off after setting a quit date. Slowly but surely cut myself down on the intake of nicoteen to minimize the withdrawal symptoms.

Only smoke outside...and this includes your car. You will find that you will smoke less when it becomes inconvienent. When driving to work, get a cup of coffe or something to sip on to take the place of that cigarette you are use to smoking (yeah, that is still the hardest part).

Also, if you have a setback and smoke (or smoke alot after you begin to cut back) DON-T GIVE UP ON THE GOAL. It is only a set back, not the end of the world. So many people just give up. You will always want to smoke...it is with you for life...however as time rolls on, the cravings will be eaiser to ignor.

Get with your Doctor. There are so many things they can do to help....and they will be tripping over themselves to help. Also, check on the internet to see if your state has a quit help line. American Cancer Society: Call 1-800-ACS-2345 or

It is a war to quit. Sometimes you loose a battle, but don-t give up the war because of one, two or even ten screw ups. It is never too late to quit.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cold turkey.
because tapering off is long and hard.
you are stronger than the addiction.
you can beat it.
you can do it.
you can get through it.
get a support system.
and go cold turkey.
Thinking about how much cigaretts cost these days and the money that it could be used for.
COLD TURKEY is the only way. That is how I did it.
Watch the weight though, cause you will want to eat more.

Good luck

TO ALL THE IGNORANT PEOPLE WHO SAY IT IS NOT ADDICTIVE- YOU ARE WRONG. YOU MUST NOT HAVE BEEN DOING IT THAT MUCH AND LONG.

THE TRUE FACT IS IF YOUR ADDICTED ITS NOT EASY TO QUIT. MARIJUANA IS LIKE PROZAC, IT HELPS YOU COPE WITH LIFE AND THINGS THAT HAPPEN.

QUITING ISN-T EASY. EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN REASONS FOR QUITING, WHETHER IT BE BECAUSE YOU DON-T WANT TO BE A DEAD HEAD OR BECAUSE YOU HAVE HIGHER PRIORITIES THAT NEED MORE ATTENTION, REMEMBER THIS WHEN YOU WANT TO SMOKE.

IF YOU SLIP UP DON-T MAKE YOURSELF FEEL LIKE YOU CAN-T DO IT.

FIRST THINGS FIRST, GET RID OF THE PIPES, BONGS, PAPERS ANYTHING THAT WILL HELP YOU GET HIGH.
TELL PEOPLE YOU SMOKE WITH THAT YOUR QUITTING, OR PEOPLE THAT KNOW YOU SMOKE BUT DON-T (IF ANY) THAT YOU ARE QUITTING, HOPEFULLY THEY WILL TELL YOU GOOD AND THAT THEY THINK THAT IS A GOOD IDEA. THIS HELPS MAKE YOU FEEL GUILTY WHEN YOU WANT TO GO SMOKE. tHE IDEA OF DISAPPOINTING SOMEONE. CONVINCE YOURSELF YOU ARE READY. WRITE DOWN ALL THE REASONS YOU ARE QUITTING AND KEEP THEM NEAR WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT BUYING SOME. QUITTING SMOKING POT IS VERY HARD BECAUSE IF YOUR LIKE ME YOU HAVE GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO DOING IT EVERYDAY. IF YOU HAVE TO SMOKE LESS AND LESS EVERY DAY THAT IS AT LEAST GRADUAL PROCESS AND IS IN A GOOD DIRECTION.

THAT IS ALL I CAN THINK OF FOR NOW, GOOD LUCK.
Cut it out gradually. Then just like when you are on a diet-- keep away from the stuff you shouldn-t have. Don-t have it in the house, and don-t spend time with people who smoke (at least when they are smoking.)
If you find that it is difficult to quit -- you might seek help from a doctor.

Good luck.
weed isnt a -serious- addiction, compared to other substances, so just smoke a lil less every time, this may be hard because of the varyin power of strains. Just smoke less and less, and occupy yourself with other things.
weed isnt addictive, so just stop smoking and buying. Think of all the money youll have that you would have spent on weed. Anyone who thinks it is addictive doesnt know what they are talking about.
like with any addictive substance

cut down.. support of fam/friends

BE STRONGG!
dude dont quite its still good for you in moderation... just cut back a little and do something alot of ppl smoke because there bored start up something fun like rc cars or something lol
Stop hanging out with the kids that smoke pot. And stop buying pot. It works.
just stop. if you really like it the first 5 or 6 days will be a lil hard but it isn-t addictive so just dont buy it and you will be fine
when you have cravings drink catnip tea (for humans)
or chamomile sweeten with a little honey
It isn-t addicting.
It will be very easy for you.
Smoke the rest of your stash by yourself and get in a fight with your dealer(s).
exercise helps people stay away from addictive behavior.
The best way is the way you follow to the end.
dip it in vinegar before you smoke it.
stop buying it
umm...don-t even start? seriously If you thought you were cool by doing that...like wtf !?

no but serisously, there are people that help you dude, soo...why ask total strangers?

PLUS! its totally illegal buddy :]

I quit smoking should i start again? -

im 23 and i guit smoking a year ago but i still want a ciggarete shuld i start back up?
Oh yes!!! New studies show that it`s good for your health. Dumb @$$.
Sure go ahead and start smoking again, it will cost you a lot more than just money, your life perhaps. Did you know you can even get bladder cancer from smoking, I know someone that hasn`t smoked for 20 years and they only smoked for 10 years and now they have bladder cancer. Never thought smoking would cause something like that, but the Dr. says its fairly common, people just don`t realize it`s from smoking. When it comes down to it it`s just bad for your entire body, but if it really makes you happy go ahead.
If you quit smoking you-ll be one less person teaching a bad habit to impressionable youth.
Just take it a day at a time and distract yourself when you start thinking about having a cigarette. I quit 6 months ago, and I still think about having a cigarette, but it is getting easier. I do not want to be a slave to cigarettes ever again!
Hang in there..........you-ll be glad you did!
OBVIOULSY NOTt!!!!! duh. smoking is so horrible for you. Didnt you learn anything in school or from all the people who died of lung cancer. Nobody likes a smoker. They smell awful. Gross smoking sucks!
You-re nuts... why do you want to quit and then picking up again? Since you are -clean-, stay that way!

I do have relatives and friends died from cancer due to smoking... You are young, unless you don-t treasure your life.. you can go ahead...
Well, if you want to kill yourself, I am sure that it could be arranged...and probably for much cheaper than you will be paying the tobacco industry to kill you.
i dont think so....i smoke to and im trying to quit...
no you are stronger than most you should most people you should most definatly not start again because you will always have the temptation im a smoker only 16 iv been on and off for about a year presently iv gone six days without my nicotine and im about to die dont get back into it theres notheing good in it
Yes. Smoking is good for business. Bad for you, but good for folks in the health care industry. Smoke -em if you got -em.
dear one please don`t start up that bad habit again, You have gone this far please don`t lite up. You are to be praised. My friend would`nt quit until they had to remove more than half of her left lung. They hope that they got all the cancer but she will be in remission for several years. Her small grandkids cried and said grandma don`t die and it was so sad. She has not had a cigarette for 8 months now. She will admit it was a nasty habit and how much money it cost her to get cancer.
no, but you have to decide whether you are smoker or non smoker. When you see yourself as a non smoker you will suceed in giving up, meanwhile if you are having craving for a cigerette, do something healthy like go to the gym or go for a walk and remember life is to be enjoyed and smoking shortens your life
you should not start smoking.......fully quit smoking its bad on our health......
NO that would be like an alcoholic sober for a year and then drinking...you-ll pick up where you started....
Sure! Go for it! All that tara and smoke has probably cleared out of you lungs by now you better start building it uop again soon if you want to gent lung cancer.
noooooooo
Hell no. Are you crazy or just dumb? You should read what they put in those things. I might vomit all over you if you start up again.
no cause if you start back up you defeated the purpose
of quiting also smoking causes lung cancer,
heart problems, breating problems and can
shrivel your lungs up like a grape and cause
you to have a breathing hole put in your
throught just so you can breath. suonds fun
don-t it tak my advice don-t start back up
its not worth it. live a healthy life.
NO
Did you read your question before you submitted it? Instead of asking should you restart, you should be asking for praise in having quit.

Congratulations
Good going
Right on
Our hero
Damn smart of you
We-re proud of you
Hang in there
no
No don-t start back up
. it will be harder to quit a second time.
Remember why you first quit.
Ha, if you want to penis get shorter, go ahead.

Smoking will damage blood vessels in the penis and will shorten the penis and ultimately lead to impotence. This is all real. Canada and Australia alread force -Smoking can lead to impotence- label on cigarette box.

nope. the disadvantages of smoking FAAAAAR outweight the advantages. smoking puts you at higher risk for heart disease, lung cancer, other lung diseases and problems, stroke, and generally being out of shape. so i would definitely say no even though the cravings ar ethere.

Of course not!!!!

Besides the health reasons, I bet you are saving TONS of money by not smoking!

I bet your breath smells better and your clothes. I bet your teeth will remain whiter too.
The answer you really want to hear is YES. Remember how sweet it taste in your mouth. How great it makes you smell. How about how white it makes your teeth. All of these are great reasons to start again. Oh and I forgot the part where it helps to stop cancer. Go for it. You know you want to.
I quit 7 months ago, and I still have cravings nearly every day, too. The other times that I quit for a couple months and started smoking again, I found that one of the things that made me fall off the wagon was one relentless thought that plagued me. Over and over I kept thinking, -If I could just have one more!-. Now at 40, I know that, for my life, I just can-t smoke anymore, so I have to make a conscious decision on many days that I don-t ever want to put a cigarette in my mouth again. I know it-s no fun. I feel for you. I had chest pains last year that scared the living crap out of me, and forced me to quit. After several ER visits a stress test and a cardiac catheterization, it turned out to be all stress. Made me quit, though. I took my chest pains as a wake up call. Another thing that keeps me from cigarettes is knowing how totally PO-d I would be at myself if I had one now. I-ve come way too far to go back now and so have you. One whole year!.. Excellent!! Get another oral fixation; I chew gum and I LOVE loose tea (drinking it, not smoking it - haha!) Keep watching the news on smoking (like today-s headline that 1 BILLION people will die in the next 100 years. I-m SO glad I finally freed myself from all the hassle attached to smoking. Don-t give in to that $%@- cigarette. FIGHT! You can do it!!!
Hell No man ...I-m trying to quit as well. But couldn-t do it yet :( :

Does anyone have any tips on how to quit smoking cold turkey? -

Does anyone have any tips on how to quit smoking cold turkey? -

quitting when things are good in your life is a good time. other than that, there really aren-t any tips other than to resist the urge. the more you try to quit, the more likely you will be successful at quitting. oh, and gum doesn-t always help, nor does the patch, etc. so, yes, cold turkey is usually the way to go. try quitting on a relaxing vacation. that is what i did - i have been smoke free for 4-5 months. ok, so i had 2 in that time, but they made me not want anymore.

oh yeah, and it isn-t always about the chemical withdrawal... for me it was all about the habbit - -breaks- from everyday life that were the toughest to conquer. the whole -buying other brands- doesn-t work either. that isn-t quitting cold turkey anyhow.

good luck - if at first you don-t succeed, try - try again... and again...
First, accept that you will never -not want a cigarette- and realize that it will be a lifelong temptation that you will have to resist.

Second, make small changes to your everyday routine that involved places and times you always smoked (I smoked when I put my makeup on in the morning, so I started putting my makeup on in another room with no ashtray...the hardest was not smoking while I drove).

Third, don-t expect other people not to smoke around you. That-s a cop out. You are quitting for you, and only you can quit smoking.

Fourth, learn a replacement behavior. Try not to make it eating (just an oral stimulation replacement). Maybe go for a walk, learn to knit, something to retrain your mind from wanting a cigarette.

Fifth, start taking deep cleansing breaths and visualize the clean air helping to cleanse and heal your dirty, clogged lungs.

Sixth, keep track on a piece of paper how much money you saved every day by not buying cigarettes - it will add up quick!

Seventh, look into the future and see yourself as a non-smoker. You won-t have to stand out in the cold or heat to smoke because it is so socially unacceptable.

Good luck from a former 2 1/2 pack a day Winston smoker. I haven-t smoked in 9 years. The biggest reason I won-t start again is because quitting is hard!
Just be REALLY determined!!! Only you can do it and as the days, weeks ,months pass keep congratulating yourself . I am now 5months cigarette free and so happy about it. I don-t pretend it is easy but it gets better! Keep busy, spare time is difficult cos you want one so much!
Good Luck!
I have tried many times and just restarted. I have tried everything even smoke away last week. I quit for 12 years many years ago and started back after me and my wife broke up. I have not been able to quit after that. I have too many problems with my job and women. It seems to be my way to get away from it all.

So life has to be in good order and you have to just simply pick a day and be strong and quit. I was able to quit for about 4 months a couple of years ago. But that was because I got sick for a week and did not smoke because I did notwant to smoke while I was sick and just did not smoke after I got better. Then I started back. The want for a smoke is all ways with you after you quit no matter how long it has been.
Have a friend drop u off in the woods for 2 weeks with no smokes and no way to get them.
Information that iv been taught is that it only takes 72 hours for all the chemicals to get out of your system, after that it is all mental you just have to learn tech. to deal with the cravings
Smoke ham instead.
Wellbutrin.
Stops the cravings by the end of the first or second day. Helped my wife, twice.
I know what you-re saying. Why twice? The first time was so easy to quit, she didn-t respect it. She figured she could take a puff here, smoke while drinking there, but she woke the dragon and started back again. Then, she had to visit her doc and get the Welbutrin, again.
Now, she is back on the wagon.
yes its simple buy a brand of cigs u dont like i mean realy hate the **** or buy one u like the least eat soomthin u hate then smoke itll cause u to get a perm bad taste whn u think of cigs plus throw all ur cigs out dont lock them up dont hide them throw them the **** out ill wait.......................done it yet..............gooood no buy candy cigs a **** load of them everytime u get a craving stick it in ur mouth like its a cig and get the patch and get pictures

http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10…

Good! I-m glad you-ve decided to stop. Cold turkey is the best way. I stopped that way, but did it with a friend who also wanted to stop, so we did it together. We were each others support system. If you have a friend that smokes that also wants to stop you can confer with him and see if he would like to stop together. Just an idea. I-ve been smoke-free for 14 years now after smoking for 24 years. It is so worth it!

Once you-ve actually stopped, brushing your teeth every time you get a craving is good and also drinking loads of water and walking and taking cold showers is also good ways to divert your cravings.
i am very happy to say that i just did. this is what i did. tell your self I DON-T SMOKE. and mean it. evey time you want on say it. go places that you can-t smoke in, like schools malls, so on. when others ask say the same thing I DON-T SOMKE. good luck.
Start smoking cigarettes and try eating your cold turkey instead of smoking it

Should i quit smoking or lose weight? -

Should i quit smoking or lose weight? -

which one would be best to do first?
Well I had the same problem and I made the choice to lose my weight first and then stop smoking. I have always been on the heavy side since I was a child and I have stopped smoking before. I know I can stop smoking again, but changing my eating habits/lifestyle is more difficult for me. The last time I stopped smoking I gained 20 pounds because I didn-t have control of my eating------ this time I will have control of my eating, so it will be different.
why not multitask?
BOTH
run while throwing cigerrets out the window !
well smoking makes you gain weight so i would with smoking
Depending on your current weight, I would quit smoking first. After you got that done you will feel better and more ready to tackle the weight loss issue.
Really, it-d be best to do both at the same time. I-m not trying to spam, the attached article goes exactly with your situation (Hence being titled -After I lose weight I will quit smoking-).
why cant you do it both at the same time? i am! i am quiting smoking and going to the gym and eating right so you can do it 2!-3
losing weight is better one to do first
Both at same time. Smoking is very unhealthy and being overweight taxes all your body-s systems.
Stop smoking by getting rid of all tobacco products and don-t keep ready snacks around your house or work place just eat normal meals. If smoking urge is to great suck on a straw or something to help break the hand, mouth habit. I quit cold turkey after 40 years and that was 20 years ago.
Quit smoking.

The effects of tabacco are way worse than the effects of being overweight. A lot of people are reluctant to quit smoking because they gain weight, but you would have to gain over 100 lbs before the extra weight would be worse for you than smoking...

Good luck!
well smoking is the quicker killer.... your call.
Quit smoking. I-ve heard of people pick up running or walking to help them get over smoking cravings. I think the two go hand in hand. But inactivity is better than actively poisoning yourself.

Best of luck to you.
Quit smoking - no question about it. The reversible effects of smoking take longer to show up than the effects of being even largely overweight. Good luck with both.
Smoking bad for you so i say quit smoking
Replace cigarettes with carrots and celery and sports, weight lifting or exercise to relieve tension and you can do both at once.
both. smoking makes you gain weight so that would be a start

When you have quit smoking did anyone have trouble with there gums and tougue getting sores on them ? -

It feels like your tougue is raw or burnt?
No not at all. My top withdrawal symptom was anger.

For further info on quitting smoking visit the following sources.
No, I never experienced that. My big problem was the craving and my jaw muscles would expand and contract.
I didn-t notice anything like that. I did notice that my sense of taste was increased, so maybe you-re more sensitive to certain foods that were otherwise blocked out or numbed by the smoking. Sense of smell increases bigtime too...let me warn you now, there are ALOT of smelly people out there too! Sorry I couldn-t be of more help! :)
No I did not feel good but not my mouth . but you might be have a side effect from all the smoking you did for me it was my stomach good luck

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

I don-t believe the gum or the patch are going to do me any good. So it-s either the prescription pill or cold turkey. Has anyone had success? What method did you use?
I actually quit smoking using the patch over 2 years ago. I think what really did it for me though was I just wanted to quit. I mean really wanted to quit! I woke up one morning said to myself what am I doing and never looked back. it was hard but that-s where the patches come in. good luck it-s hard work but it will be so worth it in the end.
If you really want to quit smoking do what I did. Buy the eCigarette. It works great, you still get to smoke and there is no tar, tabbaco, or smell. I am telling you I bought it at a mall for $150, I found it for about $70 at http://www.giftgiftgifts.com/cat-ecigarette.cfm and there is a lot of information at http://www.gadgetworldus.com/eCigrettes.html Ceck it out.
i just stopped. it was all a mental thing.i was up to almost a pack a day but then i just quit cold turkey . i don-t beleive in patches i think that wearing one just makes you think its working.
In fact gum is really a good way if you believe in it and would not spend too much and less side effects, there are too many ways cost too much in total.
you can also try another way as follows
I-ve never smoked, but this video totally put me off of ever even looking at a cig.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dn50mTEGnrU
aw cmon. dont be a quitter. just kidding. try other stress relievers like coffee and good sleep. keep yourself busy with fun activities and try to take control of your mind.
think about what its doing to ur lungs

What are some practical ways to support someone who is quitting smoking? -

I have heard of -smoking cessation survival kits---any ideas for what to include? How I can I be supportive of my boyfriend-s decision to quit?
Good for him!
I quit May 1, its now been 4 months and 18 days of freedom for me.

Really, during the first week there is going to be nothing you can do to console him if you are a non smoker or if you still smoke. If you are a former smoker yourself, you should be able to tell him what to expect.
The first week is hell. Physically and mentally. I was physically and mentally ill for the first week. The physical cravings go away after a week, but the psychological ones took about 2 months to go away for me.
Now, I still sometimes want to smoke when I get stressed or when I am bored, but its not worth it.
Life is so great being free being a slave to smoking. People who still smoke say that they love to smoke, that its not like being a slave, that they LOVE to smoke. Thats not the person talking, its the person under the influence of cigarettes. If that same person could bring themselves to quit, they would see how much it controlled their lives, and how great life is when you start to notice the positive effects of not smoking.....the increased sense of smell, the improvement in vision, the function of the lungs starts to be greater, the pulse returns to normal, the blood pressure decreases, one can feel tingling in arms and legs from increased oxygen, feet don-t go numb when kneeling anymore, urinate less frequently, don-t feel tired all the time, feel like I can think clearer, generally happier, etc, etc.
But this all takes time. It wasn-t instantaneous. And don-t forget that the feeling of wanting to smoke never totally goes away, but it does lessen.
Keep the new reformed smoker away from places and situations where there are smokers around. People who still smoke will not support those who choose to quit, and may encourage restarting. Also, seeing cigarettes, smelling the smoke may induce a quitter to start again.
Encourage the person to get out and get exercise, at least half hour a day.
Don-t let the person sit still for very long. Be sure they have things to keep their mind occupied.
Don-t get the quitter to aggravated.
If the quitter must call off from work during the first week, so be it. I had to call off due to how sick I was from quitting. NO JOB is more important than your health.
Good luck.

PS - I think all of us -ex smokers- need to band together and really get the message out there about quitting, and how we succeeded. Keep talking about it. Put in people-s faces. If we do it enough, and in the right way, perhaps we can someday have a smoke free society.
Cinnamon suckie candies are helpful, or you can also call 1-800-NO-BUTTS, so he can get hooked up with the patch to help him quit smoking also. The call and the patch are free. Wish your boyfriend good luck, and try not to make such a big fuss about his not smoking and if he ends up smoking anyways, don-t get to hard on him if he ends up smoking anyways.
thay need to keep bezzzzzie. the more thay do the less thay smoke. im a smoker and if i do thing i dont smoke. and if im not around others that are. its really hard on them thay get upset over nothing so over look what thay say thay dont really mean it. just be a friend.
Get him on a good program with nicotine gum or the patch. Make sure he-s talked to his doctor about options.

Take him places where smoking is not an issue. For example, if you like to bar-hop or go to casinos, those are harder places to avoid smoking than in a movie theater.

Get some exercise with him. Studies show it helps reduce cravings.

Take him out or make him a great meal. Gives him oral sensation without smoking.

Keep encouraging him to stick to his resolve and be patient when he-s frustrated.

See if you can get him to take up gum-chewing as an alternative.

Good luck.

i have a 3 yr old daughter and i would like to live to see her grow up. as much as my thoughts tell me that i HAVE to quit, i can-t seem to do it. Any suggestions.....HELP!
This is from Stephen King-s, Quitters Inc.

You pay these mob-type guys to moniter you secretly. If you smoke once, they hurt someone in your family. If you smoke a second time, they kill someone in your family. The third time they kill you. It-s guaranteed to work or your money back.
I have never smoked by I saw an ad on TV the other day for a free trial of one of three brands of nicotine support tablets/patches. It was part of a government effort to help people.

I would suggest you call your local health department. They may have smoking programs or medicine you can access for free. I have heard that it is easier to quit if you have a support group of friends or other smokers to help and encourage you. I would also try to exercise to prevent weight gain, which may occur when you quit.

You are taking the first step. Congratulations.

Here-s a list of stop smoking clinics in the US
http://www.stopsmokingamerica.com/locati…

The Nicatrol Inhaler is the best in my point of view. I tried the patch it helped a little but it made my skin raw as I have sensitive skin. I tried the gun (nasty) When my Dr. put me on the quit smoking pill I was allergic to it. My Dr. then prescribed the inhaler. It was great! You put these little nicotine cartridge-s into the mouth piece, You draw into your lungs and hold like you are smoking. One of the hardest parts of quiting smoking is the hand to mouth thing.I reduced slowly the amount of nicotine I put into the mouth piece. After I was free from nicotine altogether I kept an empty mouth piece to mimic smoking. One of the hardest parts of giving up smoking is the hand to mouth routine we become used to.You know like with coffee in the morning, when the phone rings, putting on your make-up.Playing cards, after meals. You can even use these in non-smoking restaurants! I smoked for 32 years and I didn-t think I could ever quit smoking. I have been smoke free sense July 9TH 2000! I still grave a cigarette every once in a while but the desire soon passes..You will always need will power. There is no 100% take away the desire way to quit smoking.Good luck I know you can do it if you have really made up your mind to quit.Welcome to the non-smokers club.
The only thing that worked for me was will power. i had tried to quit hundreds of times before but it never worked because i never really wanted to. it-s really hard to stay focussed but every time i felt like a ciggerette i tried to picture something really horrible, like being in hospital with cancer, or being told i could never have children because i smoked. it might sound extreme but i-v not had a cig now for a year, so just stay strong and you-ll get there.
U have to strengthen ur determination.
Try chewing gum.
But the thing that will help would be only ur determination.
Best of luck
I quit smoking almost 5 years ago....I just quit cold turkey. It wasn-t as hard as I thought would be once I got past the first week. You have to really want to quit, otherwise it will not work. You cannot be quitting for someone else, YOU have to do it for YOU. I ate a lot of mints...whenever I wanted a ciggy, I ate a mint...gave my mouth something else to do. A friend of mine who quit would go walk whenever he wanted a ciggy. He stayed in better shape than I did. I gained some weight, but figured that weighing a little more was better than smoking. My husband quit smoking as well...cold turkey is the only way that worked for him. He tried the nicotine patch and the nicotine gum, but those are addictive as well...works for some people, but not many.
I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.
Try cutting back slowly. Arrange certain times of the day you can smoke. If you have urges throughout the -non-smoking time- use your will power. Gradually cut back on the smokes you do have during your -smoking times-. Before you know it you will be smoking very little and quitting will be much easier. Good luck.
There was a best selling book in the UK and some celebrities swear by it on talk shows. I believe it-s called Stop Smoking Forever or something like that.
straight to the point........if you don-t want :
*.your daughter to grow up without a mom
*.to witness emphysema or some other type of horrible condition
*.cancer
*.or even a horrible death of her mother
then you will quit! There is no reason to continue...but there sure are many reasons why you should quit.
(my mother in law died from smoking and it was horrible! I not only seen what she went through, but what the family endured...it was nothing more than needless suffering..(I also witnessed her death and you don-t want that!) ...think about it Nikki you owe it to yourself and to your baby girl....when you do quit it-s all or nothing...cold turkey and lots of tylenol for the headaches (my husband quit after he seen his mom...it was hard but he knew the alternative)
I recently quit using Chantix and would recommend it for everyone. I will never go back to smoking. Its great your thinking about child too because she is getting lung disease the same as you are only involuntarily. I wish you alot of luck with this. I wish i would-ve have quit when my kids were little. I caused them asthma from my smoking! Please do it for her if not for yourself!! Good Luck!!!
Willpower.

What you have to do, is decide to NOT smoke another cigarette today.

If and When you slip, decide to NOT smoke another cigarette today. Continue telling yourself this until you go to sleep

The next morning do it again. Each time you slip, Tell yourself that you will not have another cigarette today.

Eventually, you will make it through an entire day without smoking. Congratulations!

Now do it again.

Then do it again.

Keep doing it; every day when you wake up, tell yourself that you will not smoke today.

You will have slip-ups, but then the cigarette will taste like crap! Just keep repeating the pattern of self control.

I have been sucessfully telling myself this since 1989. Before that, I smoked for almost 20 years.

Good Luck.

Have trouble gaining weight, especially in my feminine areas. If I quit smoking will this help me look better?
You will look and feel better smokefree as well as be healthier and richer. Having a monkey on one-s back is no fun. I would avoid addiction while you can. Most smokers wish they had quit when they are young.

You will be grateful later. Trust me!
Ya, it will surely help you out.As Smoking is not good for health.
Seriously doubt it . wouldnt quit for that if i wer unless that is where u lost wieght from before. The wieght could go other places and make u look worse .

False path-lab report saying they have Lung Cancer. Even better, bribe a doctor to tell it to him in person.
Take their cigarettes. I dont know, that really isn-t a good idea. I agree with the person up top, it-s THEIR choice. There are alot of quit patches that work, but theyre expensive. Maybe talk to a doctor to get some advice...
You can-t. They have to want to quit on their own. You can refuse to be around them if you choose.

I know my family would be very upset to know i smoke, my dad has been lecturing me my entire life not to, while he smokes two packs a day, i have been smoking for four years now, i need advice on how to drive with him for nine hours and be with him all weekend with out smoking and with out being a complete *****, please help! no bull **** answers necessary
thats tough!!! i smoke too. i know i shouldn-t...but i do! heres what i would do...i agree with the gum situation. stock up! make sure you have snacks to snack on while in the car. especially finger foods to keep your hands busy. pretzels work especially well. also, while you are not eating...try bringing books, magazines, crosswords, etc. to get your mind off of it. as for when you are there, try to keep as busy as possible! (i think the car will be the most challenging.) hope i helped!

If you-re ready to quit smoking, try going to the doctor, or take some kind of medication.
Bring lots of gum with you, and always have it in your mouth!
Its going to be hard, but buy you some nicotine patches and chew plenty of gum...just go for a walk or practice some deep breathing exercises when your nerves feel like they are getting the best of you! Good luck!
Use the patch, lozenges, or gum. It works. You-ll still want one, but you-ll only be dealing with the craving psychologically, not physically.
Be an adult and fess up. I seriously doubt that you-ll be able to make it all that time without smoking and without having withdrawls. If you-re old enough to buy the cigarettes (I-m assuming you are) then why are you hiding it? They may be upset, and for good reason, but they-ll get over it. And maybe the 2 of you can work on quitting together.

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

Chantix...Should I try Chantix To Help Quit Smoking? How Expensive Is Chantix? -

Chantix is a terrific way to stop smoking and it-s a very effective new treatment. For more information about Chantix, click the following link:
http://www.121doc.co.uk/affiliate/script…

I-ve heard good things about it, and the cost is high, like over a hundred a month
I tried Chantix and it works. I-ve been smoking for a very long time. Since it just came out and I got it before my health provider had it listed as covered, it cost me $122.00 for the first month of pills. You get 4 separate packs for each week. It says to pick a day when you want to quit and start your first pack a week prior. during this week you can smoke, but by the end of the week, the cigarettes start to taste so horrible that you don-t want to. it worked for me and i tried everything. its also a 3 month program. even if your not covered, its still only $30 a week, same money you would use on smokes. good luck. and trust me, it works
I was just recently prescribed this by my doctor, but I decided against filling it and did it cold turkey. I have quit in the past (over a yr) and then -something- happened in life and I picked it up again. You know what they say...Just one drag will suck you back in and trust me IT DOES!! When I quit that time I did it cold turkey too and I had smoked for 13 yrs.

In all honesty it comes down to will power and how much you really want something. If you really truly want to quit then you will with or without help of medication.

Whatever route you decide to go I wish you the best, its not easy but its certianly possible. I know this time no matter what -curve balls- life throws at me I will NOT pick a cigarette back up to help relieve the stress. I am done and done for good.
My wife is moderator of a quit smoking group on Yahoo and so many use Chantix with good results. I am not too sure of the cost though
my wife and i used wellbutrin the generic for the Zyban
got more than 20 from Doc for trial and a script. Since my plan covered some pysch stuff i only paid 30 bucks for it worked GREAT~! 4 years no and no craving yet. recommend losing a bunch of weight before you quit will help. also...support from your partner or spouse...necessary. Check your plan for smking cessation some plans will pay 100 % of any smoking sessation plan...comes from the class action suits over smoking related cancer
My best friend and her husband both took it and had great results and they both only took it for 3 weeks!!! Its worth a shot! Good Luck

When do you start feeling healthier after quitting smoking? -

I have quit smoking a week tomorow and wanted to know when will i start felling the benefits of stopping and how long will it take ?? Currently have sore throat and cough but i know this is normal.
I stopped smoking 19 months ago and I don-t feel much different except 2.5 stones heavier
I can tell you how to feel better.. You need to make your lungs work... It helps to break up the build up of gunk in your lungs..
I did square breathing 3 times a day for a month and it really helped plus it helps add more oxygen to your body thru your blood. And that is what makes you notice it more!!
Square breathing is :
Breathe in slow and deep to the count of 4
hold comfortably for the count of 4
breathe out slowly to the count of 4
wait to the count of 4
Breathe in slow and deep to the count of 4 and keep repeating for a while.. I did 2 minutes then 3 then on till I reached 5 minutes.
Now in the beginning I used 2-s then 3-s and worked up to 4-s..
It also works to calm you down and put you in a more relaxed state, which is something the -cigarette- did when you were a bit on edge..And is way far more healthy than the ciggy was...
I am proud of your effort and know you will make it..Keep on quitting everyone... It-s worth it!!!
Luka
yes you may even find it hard to go to the loo, but it is well worth it, your body will feel the benefits already, just you will not notice feeling so down with the others things wrong with you.

keep this up your over the hard part well done

kind regards

it can take a few months really, depending on how long you-ve smoked and it can also depend on your physical characteristics as well. some ppl actually feel pretty bad before feeling the real benefit of quitting, to the point of wanting to go back to cigarettes. but you will get past it i promise. start drinking loads of bottled water...it will not only soothe your irritated throat, it will also help keep everything lubricated internally and keep your subconscious oral fixation entertained. congratulations on taking steps in becoming healthier!! you won-t regret it!!
Its not all about feeling better - just think of dying less soon and not in agony.
I gave up smoking, will be a month on Monday.
Got no sense of taste.
Toilet habits, well we will not go there !
Best thing is, I can breathe better. I can walk upstairs without feeling I am gonna die !
I feel worse now than when I smoked, BUT I am sticking with it. Am never going to pay good money again to kill myself.

Edit:
A smoker for 30 years !
You automatically gain half a stone in weight as your metabolism slows down. I watch what I eat and eat healthily.
I think it may depend on how long you have been smoking.
It must be hard to quit, congrats on your victory! Just keep it up and go for some exercise daily, that will help you notice the difference.
Good luck!
I gave up smoking on the 1st of July this year, I had help using nicotine patches and i found the first 3 weeks..ish were the worst, although i am now 20wks pregnant and didnt know i was pregnant at the time of giving up, i didnt suffer from any morning sickness, but i have found that i am now struggling again, like im craving a roll up like someone would crave ice-cream and baked beans! (i actually dont know of anyone who have craved that,...i just made it up)lol But i am worried that im going to start smoking again, i actually dont think i feel any better at the moment for giving up!
Took me about 5-6 months and everything is all good
Way to go! Keep it up! I quit smoking over 3 years ago after smoking for almost 20 years and I-m not going back. You will have to cough. It-s clearing your lungs and throat out. The crap coming up is what-s making your throat sore. This will pass soon. You will start to feel the positive effects soon. You will continue to feel better. Now you have to watch out. People who quit smoking gain weight and quickly because they are trying compensate for not having anything to do with their hands and mouth. It-s the habit of grabbing one after coffee or diner or waking up or other activities that are hard. Keep busy and if you really need to snack then make it fruit not candy or other junk foods. Thrust me I gained about 40 lbs in less than 3 years. I just now lost 30 of it. Man I feel great!
first of all, you shouldn-t smoke. secondly, if you start to stop smoking your breathing improves. :)
Oh, God, I never felt healthier when I quit smoking. Metabolism slows down when you give up nicotine and almost everyone packs on the pounds. Even if a person only drinks water all day, he or she will become a good deal heavier.

I quit for almost three years and was so miserable. I started smoking again, and I never felt better; I-m animated again, and running around all over the place.

I personally know three people who became gravely ill after they quit smoking; the stress of not being able to light up was responsible. One even developed cancer!

I-m a smoker, smoke about a half pack a day. Have been for almost four years. I want to quit. I really do, and I want to know how anyone else has quit and what would possibly help me.

Hopefully because I-m only 17 my chances will be good. If anything wish me luck! Thanks everyone.
When I quit smoking I started by changing my habits. If I normally had a cigarette right after a meal, I waited 20 minutes. Then I didn-t smoke in the car anymore or in the house. Next step, I used nicorette gum, now that can help or hurt, you go for the gum, you are still getting the nicotine but you save the lungs. Used the gum for a month and once I was out of the habit of inhaling smoke, I was successful. I had tried to quit 3 other times, and this was the method that worked for me. I also realized guys don-t like girls who smoke.
Its a good decision that you have taken to quit smoking. The real point is that people smoke for many reasons and many times the reason is that they want to do something and they lit a cigarette. To help that you can try for some substitute when ever you feel like smoking. My friend has the same problem and he took the help of nicotine gum, whenever he felt like smoking he used one. The best point is that he received a free sample of 100 gum to try for free, they helped him and he then continued with them till he quit. I am sure it can help you too, you can also ask for free sample, he got it from the resource included below.. All the Best!!!
You can try
Hey Foxy,

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
Check out this article:

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!

How do i quit smoking? -

i am 15 and i am addicted to smoking cigerattes and i don-t know how to stop smoking.please help!!!!!
Its a very good thing that you want to quit early in the addiction! Lots of people dont want to quit until after years have gone by, that makes it worse.
It might depend on how long you have been smoking. The first thing is mind control.
My husband was told that a teaspon of honey would help. I dont know why, amybe some ingredients in the honey, so you could try that.
And get something you can Pretend to smoke, like get toothpicks, that is for people that dont know what else to do withtheir hands.
I know their is medication out there you have to get from a doctor, but being that age I dont know if you can take it or not.
I wish you lots of luck. It is a nasty habit.
Ohh...my grandparents got a jar and almost filled it with water...they smoked about half the cigerette then put it in that water, after a week or so of looking at and smelling that jar might help you...it is disgusting!
I know how hard it is to quit. and the best way is to just quit cold turkey or chew gum. After about a week or two the cravings go away.
Ask God to take away your addiction.
Cold Turkey. Iv never had the problem myself but many people in my family have and they have all tried different ways of stoping and in the end they all ended up just going cold turkey, no patches, no gum...just stop. its hard i know but this is the most effective and easiest way in my experience
find a reason to stop get a Hobbie that will keep you busy and ask your parents to help you
A Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking- will give you a wealth of useful information and advice.

I need to quit smoking? -

I have been smoking for 15 years and im only 27, I think its time to quit
Pick a day. Say on that day I-m going to finish the pack of cigarettes I have and not buy any more. Say the date is December, 7th. On Dec. 7th, don-t buy any more cigarettes. Just finish what you have. Don-t buy any more and don-t bum any from anyone else. If you don-t buy and don-t bum, you won-t have any cigarettes to smoke. And you-ll be done and that will be that.
Try cold turkey first, some people aren-t addicted and can stop without too much fuss. If you find you can-t, go to your doctor and get a prescription for Chantix.

I-ve tried, weaning, I-ve tried going cold turkey, I-ve chewed gum, I just can not seem to get past three days any words of encouragement are greatly appreciated
It is key to stay positive, don-t focus on the cravings. Keep the reasons why you quit in the first place circling through your head. This will keep your spirit and motivation high. Cravings will ease as a result.

If you keep your focus on the negatives you are reinforcing a false belief that is too hard to quit. Don-t ever think about the times you have failed. The now you can and will quit, you just have to truly believe you can do it.

Stay away from the patches and gums. They are a waste of both time and money. The only thing you need to quit is you and your own abilities as a strong human being.

There are no real negative side effects to quitting, only positive ones. The longer you have stayed smoke free the easier the quitting process becomes. You have made the right choice, believe you can quit and you will.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
I smoked for 8 years and YES, I know how hard it is. But I did quit cold turkey. My strength was from this mantra in my mind...-I am not a slave to a cigarette.- If you are the master of your own destiny, then have control. On that third day, do something out of the ordinary...go to a nice restaurant or make a trip somewhere really nice. Meditate and say this is the day that will change my life.
Just remember this-people that quit really hate cigarettes-they hate the smell of smoke. If you start to hate cigarettes you will be on the other side. Smell a damp ash tray-yuck! Put your clothes in a bag and then take them out again a week later after you haven-t had a ciggy. Try these things and everyday pleas pat yourself on your back for making it another day and it will get better. I care about you and I know you can do it!
Hey I tried everything to quit smoking too and I think I-ve finally done it. Just don-t give up! If you fail and have a smoke, that-s ok. Since I quit about 3 months ago I stuffed up twice. Once I had about 10 at a party and the other time I had half a smoke. On the half a smoke occasion, it just didn-t taste the way I remembered. It kind of felt sad to know I had killed my love affair with cigarettes, but there are so many great things about being free. Anyway, before you quit make sure you really hate it. You have to hate it so much you-re prepared to make sacrifices to win the fight. Anyway, it was and still is the most difficult thing I-ve ever, EVER done, but it-s possible. Anyway...things to try:
1. Exercise...sounds crap? It is...but it works. Get up everyday and do some..focus on getting fit. Make it feel important to you and focus on wanting it...you won-t want a smoke. It does help.

2. Smoke somewhere gross or doing something you don-t like. Sit next to a smelly bin or something. Me, I personally hate standing and smoking. It makes you-re brain link cigarettes with bad feelings.

3. The number one most effective. I didn-t want to say this as no doctor in the world will recommend this, but it is my personal experience (don-t judge me)...Replace smokes with something else. You can buy herb that you can smoke instead. There is one called Lobeila something or -Indian tobacco-. I personally chose to smoke marijuana. I know this sounds bad, but the intense suffering of quitting was not so bad. I chose it becasue I can-t smoke it at work or in public, but I still got to come home and unwind. Then you have something to look forward to as opposed to feeling lost without your smokes. I loved smoking and having somthing to smoke made it much easier to get by. The main reason it was so effective for me though is because I don-t like being inebriated. After a month of doing this the nicotine craving was dead and I couldn-t even stomach the thought of anymore weed. Now I am free.

4. Have someone who really understands that you want to quit. Someone who is around you a lot...girlfriend, housemate etc. For sure you know that horrible feeling of failure? All this person needs to do is remind you of what you actually want and how you-re going to feel if you fail. It really snaps you back to reality when you-re about to go for one and you realise it-s just the craving/habit tricking you.

Remember just to push through the craving. Stay away from friends that smoke. Avoid them like the plague. Start small and know you-re habit really well - cut out certain important cigarettes (I love a cigarette after having a meal - so I got rid of that first). It-s a habit so your brain associates cigarettes with certain actions...eg. having a few drinks etc. Work our where/when you are most vunerable to your cravings and avoid that place/environment/person until you think you can face it. You can totally do it! Just work at it and don-t be too hard on yourself if you mess up...keep going!

Good luck!
Just every drag you take, visualise this awful toxic crap seeping into your body organs, leaving a black greasy trail through your lungs. It-s powerful stuff, the imagination. Worked for me, i soon lost all my enjoyment of smoking.

How can i help my boyfriend quit smoking? -

How can i help my boyfriend quit smoking? -

my boyfriend has been smoking for two or three years. he really wants to quit but is having a lot of problems with it. he tried to make me believe cigars were better but after looking it over its worse. hes slowed down a bit with the smoking and only smokes once a day. i just wanna know how i can make it easier for him and myself.
Well I can think of one way. smoking = no sex! That might not work if your waiting for marriage, or just couldn-t hold out; so my next advice is to try and get him to do things that re-enforce the fact that he can be without cigs. Any kind of exercise routine would be good, as even athletes who smoke, which is rare definitely don-t smoke while exercising.
Maybe you could take some classes together, like an art class or something, it would force him to be in a non smoking environment for periods of time, showing him he can be without smoking. Take that a step further by getting psychological about it. All guys have an ego, dare him! For instance, if you go to the beach, dare him to leave the smokes at home! Persistence is key...
You can help ease the transition by being there for your loved one and helping them to get through the withdrawal stages. Nicotine withdrawal begins in the first hour after the last cigarette has been smoked. You can help your loved one by reminding yourself that it’s the nicotine withdrawal talking and that it will pass. Try to take on some of the stress load and avoid confrontation or arguments with him in the first few weeks of him quitting. Dealing with someone who is quitting smoking can be almost as difficult as being the actual person who is quitting.
Ramp down using nicotine gum. Over a very long period.
Tell him no more cuddling, kissing, or loving from you until he stops smoking.

How to quit smoking and drinking and still keeping the social life? -

How to quit smoking and drinking and still keeping the social life? -

i-m in College and you know, everytime we go to party, or gathering, everyone smokes and drinks. Now i dont want to do it anymore. At the moment it might be ok, but after a time you-ll get addicted, and wont care anymore.

So what are the tips to still keeping the friends and social network without having to smoke and drink...
I think people are forgetting that you-re asking what to do in a specific situation - in this case, when out with your drinking/smoking friends, and/or at a party.

For people that I-ve known who have quit drinking, they say some of the easiest ways are to have non-alcoholic beer (even bring your own bottle/case, if need be), or have sodas instead. If it isn-t doing it for you, you could begin by lessening the quantity of the alcohol by mixing it with non-alcoholic drinks. Adding ice also helps, as it gives you less drink, and slowly helps to water your drink down (something you need if drinking alcohol anyway).

As for smoking, it can be tough. Since it sounds like you-re more a social smoker, try gum instead. Otherwise, as you know, there are patches that you can try (if one doesn-t work for you, there are other brands) and even ciggerettes that are designed to help you quit - which, in your case, would still give you the appearance of being a smoker, if that is something you want.

Best of luck,

-Nate
Just dont do it!! haha they arent your friends because you smoke or drink! haha
chew gum..
I think it really depends on you. If you really mean to quit smoking and drinking, then you can do it by yourself. It is one way to test yourself if you can discipline yourself.
Okay. Still go out on your social events but don-t smoke and drink non alcoholic drinks. It is hard to do at first but it becomes natural in time and after a while people will not comment on it.
Hire someone to do the smoking and drinking for you. You can probably get an Upscale College Student Indoctrination Assistance Grant (UCSIAG) to cover the expense. Or try the Irresponsible Person Of Academia Party Facilitation Fund (IPOAPFF). The forms are available by the bale in the counseling offices. Make sure you fill out ALL 27,658 pages, filling in N/A in every blank. The forms for guiding you through filling out the forms are available behind the boiler in the admin building basement. Happy Edumication!
By now, you probably know most of the bad things about smoking — some from firsthand experience. But smoking is an addiction, and just knowing it-s bad for you isn-t enough to make most people quit. If you think the only thing you have to gain by quitting is a few extra pounds, think again!

Maybe because smoking is an addiction. A terrible addiction at that. I used to be a smoker, but I-m now smoke-free for around 5 years. Happily living my life with my wife and kids.

From my experience, you need a wake up call- for you to see things through a different perspective.

I personally stopped because my doctor said if I carried on the way I was going, I would die and not see my kids grow.

The thought of that completely tore me apart and was the final nail my Smoking Era.

Hope I helped,

Does the nicotine gum eliminate the cravings completely? If not, read on.

Some cigarette smokers have a simple nicotine addiction. For them, the gum alone will do the job.

Other smokers have a cross-addiction to acetaldehyde, which is formed whenever leaves of any kind are burned. Fortunately there-s another way to get acetaldehyde: drink a tiny bit of alcohol. Acetaldehyde is the first step in the metabolism of alcohol. Here-s what to do.

If you have a cigarette craving after you get home from work, have one teaspoon of sherry wine. Then chew on a piece of nicotine gum. You should be able to satisfy both components of your cigarette addiction simultaneously.

This could be part of a gradual tapering-off process. Or it could be a harm-reduction strategy, where you simply substitute nicotine gum plus a little wine for the the cigarettes. It-s a lot better than smoking and putting all of those carcinogenic tars into your body. Either way, you win!

Why sherry and not some other kind of wine? Sherry should be slightly more effective. It already has acetaldehyde as one of the flavor components, and should be slightly faster-acting.

Optional

For some smokers, there are triggers that stimulate cigarette cravings. Alcohol can be one of them. If that applies to you, then you may want to limit the alcohol to the 1 tsp of sherry that you take with each piece of nicotine gum at night.

Coffee is another trigger for some people. If this applies to you, you may want to experiment with cutting back on the coffee consumption. If you enjoy caffeine, try drinking more tea and less coffee.

This link goes to the part of the Wikipedia article on tobacco smoking that explains the acetaldehyde connection to cigarette addiction.
this is a -touchey feeley- answer, but it-s true. You can-t quit until you-re really ready. Anything you use to help might reduce your nicotene craving, but in the end, YOU need to decide you don-t want that smoke.

That-s how I stopped smoking. I told myself -I don-t need to smoke now.- when I wanted a smoke. Don-t get me wrong...it didn-t work 100% of the time, but eventually, I stopped wanting to smoke. Just stick with it.

Good luck!
You know that I did?

Got rid of all my cigs, and tried to go for a week without them. I chewed gum when I got a craving. This was about a month ago, I have only had 1 since then. I cheated last week. But really, I haven-t had any strong cravings.
One of the best ways that has definately do the trick for me is hypnosis. You can find a great product on this webpage :

http://www.quitsmokingeasy.net

Don-t know but when u find out let me know cause I-ve tried it all - have NEVER succeeded for more than 3 weeks - I have COPD
Try an herbal remedy along with the gum and you should be good. Try not to pick up another habit though.. some people do.
I quit smoking cold turkey...it never stayed lit very long anyhow.

Why did I fail a drug screen even though I quit smoking pot more than a month ago? -

Quote -When you ask the question “How long does marijuana stay in your system?” you need to take into account the fact that there is no simple answer to this question. THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) can stay in a person-s body for as long as 3 to 90 days after smoking or being ingested orally. There are numerous determining factors for how long drug toxins stay in a persons body which vary from person to person, such as the analytical method used, your health, your body weight, metabolism, fluid intake, the type of drug toxin, and the degree of exposure to the drug toxin.-
Normally it stays for about 30 days, but if you drink lots of caffeine it may take longer cause caffeine dehydrates you and you don-t flush it out.If you have slow metabolism it may take longer too.It varies from person to person how fast it gets out of your system. To get it out you have to drink like a fish(literally),and if you would drink lots of green tea it will be helpful to flush it out a bit faster.

Whats the best @ fastest way to quit smoking specially that am pregnant? -

Whats the best @ fastest way to quit smoking specially that am pregnant? -

I am not aware of any risks to ceasing smoking...lots of withdrawal symptoms, but risks....not really....

quickest way to quit....stop smoking...put out the cigarette and that-s it....

It-s typically called -cold turkey-.....

It takes about 3 days to get the immediate drugs out of the system...but there are tars in cigarette smoking that last about a year to get out...

There are some gentler ways to quit..and these include and are not limited to-

Nicotine gum
group therapy
hypnosis
pills like Welbutran, chantix

the gum, I believe you can get over the counter now....pills need a Doctors -script...group therapy, well, you have to find a -non- smoking- or a group of people quiting...

Best places to find those are the Seventh-day Adventist church [they actually have stop smoking clinics], the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association [find these guys in the phne book.]

Hypnosis may work, but is not a -cure all- and you have to want to quit...but my experience has been that it-s a good way to part with $400...it-s good for the hypnosis guy, not for you....but once in a while, I see a pt who praises some hypnosis clinic...not to often, but once in a rare blue moon
always have some candies(not too sweet) with you. And whenever you feel like smoking, think about your baby and how it will get badly affected by your smoking....
talk to your doc. there are risks associated with almost every stop smoking drug in as far as pregnancy goes. the risks are too great to take the advice of somebody off this site. with any drug you take at this time, they can be transmitted over the placenta to the baby so it is best to get medical advice from somebodyt that knows exactly where you stand in this pregnancy.
Visualize with every puff you take that your precious unborn baby is also inhaling the smoke and poisoning its body. I didn-t smoke during both my pregnancies. It-s a time when your baby-s health takes priority over your puffs on cigarettes. Good luck. I know it-s tough but you can do it for the sake of delivering a healthy baby.
People use Nicorette gum and patches. I don-t know if pregnant women can use those. I found another way to quit. 1) I really wanted to quit. 2) I bought bags of candy. 3) Whenever I wanted to smoke, I reached for the candy instead.
You should definitely talk to your doctor about this. It is best to not smoke but there are also the risks of using the stop smoking drugs. But as well if you go cold turkey your body might react with stress and the isn-t good either. DEFINITELY speak with your doctor about this! :) Good Luck to you!
think how you are killing your child! harsh but true!
you have to be aware about yourself... first of all think about your child which is your future.. you can surely quit for its well being... all the best.
the day i found out i was pregnant i smoked the rest of my box and didnt smoke again just do it with will power think of your baby its not as hard as it sounds wen youre pregnant beacuse youre doing it for somebody else GOOD LUCK
