How can I get my sister to quit smoking? -

She hates the patch, and I can-t think of anything else
A person has to really want to quit in order to succeed.
I tried several times, but the thing that made me really want to quit was the big price hikes.
I quit while on vacation from work (less stress)
I began months earlier by cutting down on the amount I smoked. When I started my vacation I was down to about 1/2 to 3/4 of a pack a day.
I finished my last pack on my first day of vacation. The next few days were rough. I searched the ashtrays at home for partially smoked ones and took a few hits during the day (pathetic, isn-t it?) After about 3 days of this (really nasty tasting compared to a fresh cigarettes) I was able to fight off the need to smoke.
Give her as much support as you can, but don-t be pushy.
I would ignore people who tried to make me quit, I had to decide to do it on my own.
there-s this program that pays u to stop smoking and they test u if you-ve been smoking even o times. They pay u like $50..
Nutrition is a simple way of giving up smoking and healthy. My best friend gave up his addiction smoking each evening for relaxation, I used a cascading antioxidant and an aloe vera concentrate drink, both made him feel fantastic and reduced the severity of pollution in his body for the smoking by detoxing and cleansing his body whilst activating his metabolism the way the nicotine hit did. I sell these products and they are available from me in 63 countries, let me know how you go? Phil Caine Sydney Australia.
You can-t !....SHE has to want to....To quit -anything- I believe it has to be a personal choice and even then it-s hard!!!
My brother and my Dad did quit (my brother smoked 3+ packs a day!) through a procedure where they use a laser on the bridge of their noses.....I don-t know all of the details of the procedure it sounds stange but it does work :) It was done in northern california. I know it was expensive too, but then again over the years smoking costs add up!
help her find something healthy to do instead. my uncle started chewing sunflower seeds to help him wuit smoking and it acdtually worked but now hes addicted to those lol but at least those are better then cigerettes
Patches and gum are types of nicotine replacement products. Other nicotine replacement products include lozenges, inhalers and tablets (microtab).

Where to find them
Nicotine replacement products are sold at pharmacies without prescription.

They work
Research shows that people who use nicotine replacement products are almost twice as likely to quit and stayed stopped.

How to know if they might help you
Nicotine replacement products work best for people who smoke at least 15 cigarettes per day and who want to quit.

How they help you to quit
They are intended to reduce nicotine withdrawal symptoms while you focus on breaking your smoking habits and learn to live without cigarettes.

Safer than cigarettes
Nicotine products are much safer than cigarettes, as they do not contain cancer-causing substances, carbon monoxide or other dangerous chemicals found in tobacco smoke. Nicotine products are designed to be less addictive than cigarettes: you absorb less nicotine, at a slower rate than smoking. The level of nicotine in your blood will peak after four hours with the patch, and after 30 minutes with the gum, inhaler, lozenge and tablet.

Follow the instructions that come with the product
It is important to carefully follow the instructions on how to use these products to gain the most benefit from them. The nicotine gum, inhaler, lozenge and tablet work best when taken every one to two hours throughout the day.

Talk to your pharmacist or doctor
If you have any medical conditions, are taking any medicines (including non-prescription ones), or are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using these products. You can discuss with your pharmacist or doctor which product would best suit you.

--------------------------------------…
Nicotine chewing gum
Nicotine gum is available as 2 mg and 4 mg pellets. After chewing the gum to get a peppery taste, you rest it in the side of your mouth. You absorb nicotine from the gum through the lining of your mouth. You may -chew and rest- the gum several times before discarding it. The stronger pellets are more useful for people who smoke more than 20 cigarettes per day.

--------------------------------------…
Nicotine patches
Sets of nicotine patches come in three sizes, and you usually start with the largest patch (either a 15mg 16 hour patch or a 21mg 24 hour patch). The patch is worn on the skin, and you absorb nicotine from it continuously. Some people may find patches easier to use than other nicotine products.

--------------------------------------…
Nicotine inhalers
Nicotine inhalers consist of a plastic tube with a plug loaded with nicotine, which is inserted into a mouthpiece. Nicotine is vapourised and absorbed in your mouth when you draw air through the inhaler.

--------------------------------------…
Nicotine lozenges
Nicotine lozenges are tablets which dissolve in your mouth. They slowly release nicotine, which is absorbed through the lining of your mouth over a period of about 30 minutes. They come in two strengths: 4 mg for people who normally smoke within 30 minutes of waking and 2 mg for people who normally smoke more than 30 minutes after waking.

--------------------------------------…
Nicotine sublingual tablets
Nicotine tablets (sold under the brand name Microtab) are small tablets, which dissolve under your tongue. They come in the 2mg strength only. Most people use between eight to 12 tablets per day. However, people who usually smoke within 30 minutes of waking and smoke over 20 cigarettes per day can increase their dose by taking two tablets at once or by taking one tablet more often.
I hope that she can, but She has to decide that she-s going to!

I smoked for over twenty years going from Marlboros to Newports at about two packs per day!

I never wanted to hear anybody about it! I lost my Mother-in-law to it and Still did it after vowing to stop! She was a three (yes three) pack per day smoker!

I finally decided to stop and used the patch. It worked during the week, but crashed if I had beer!

It finally took MY decision of being tired of spending thirty bucks on patched to do it!

I-m headed for Seven months now!!!

Tell her with a LOT of help from Family/friends and prayer that she can do this, Really!!!
Hi,
Since I quit, I-m constanly now being asked by friends, -How Do I Stop Smoking?-
I really empathise with you, I quit my 20 a day habit in a pain-free way!
No stress, no cravings, no weight gain, no pills, patches or gums.
(I-d tried everything else, like you)
The program I followed was recommended by a friend and now boasts a 90% success rate and is 100% fully guaranteed - can-t say fairer than that.

If you really intend on quitting this is it.

All the best..

You can-t. She is the only one who can stop herself.

Don-t keep nagging her about it as she is probably going to jut say F-n forget it.

Keep the
Your sister has to be determined to stop for herself and you can-t do it for her dear heart. You can however help her by being supportive and understanding to her. I succeeded on my second try because I was determined enough not to touch another one ever after I had an attack of epilepsy ( nothing to do with smoking) but I thought I could-ve set the place on fire and burned to death. After that I have nover smoked ( no patches or pills and did not throw the pack away either. After 6 months, it was Christmas and I made a gift to myself. I threw it away for good. This could be a nice Christmas story, wouldn-t it ? Such a relief and satisfaction to have conquered the habit! I put weight but that-s all right! I look at myself in the mirror and pet my belly like Santa when I get out of the shower! And I giggle like him too!.

Good luck to your sister and make her laugh. It does miracles!

Do you have children? If so look into their eyes and imagine them finding you dead someday from emphysema.
If that doesn-t work their are anti-depressants that help.
try the patch or nicotene gum, or start chewing gum.

My husband quit dipping tobacco - his doctor had him on Zoloft for about 4 weeks, during which time he gradually cut his tobacco usage down, and finally out. Don-t know what you-re asking about, but that worked for him.
Wellbrutrin XL or XR is the only medication I am aware of to help stop smoking. But with that new medication you have to make yourself determined to want to quit. You can-t expect a medication to do that automatically for you. Before taking a medication talk to your doctor and see if it is okay for you to take it. Good luck to you!
zyban?
Why even start smoking in the first place?!!!!!

Does anyone know what is the most effective prescripted durgs to
help quit smoking?
Wellbutrin (aka Zyban) is helpful, but the new medication Chantix has been shown to be more effective for helping people quit.
Wellbutrin is reported to have some effect on this, but it is an antidepressant and something you will need to talk to dr. about. Patches have a good rep.
The Patch is pretty good. Over the counter. It depends on your insurance on what they will cover.

Zyban is very effective if taken properly. I know many who have stopped smoking because of this medication. Good luck.

I am not yet at the legal age to smoke. However I do, and have for a few years now.

However, I am starting to see health effects and its breaking my mothers heart.

I am too young to get the patch or nicotine gum.. so does anybody know any other techniques to help me quit?
1st off, i think youre amazing, for caring so much about your mom (:
youre not going to regret this, it will be one of the best decisions you ever make
(in the long run when you have a family and whatnot, i know you already know smoking hurts you and your family/friends)

smoke less a day. how ever many you smoke a day, CUT THAT IN HALF.

go a while with that, itll suck at first, but go at least a week.

after a week has gone by, and you see how strong your willpower is,

cut it in half again.

for example
if you smoke 10 a day
start somking 5 a day
then start smokin 2 a day.

eventually, youll be craving less and less.
yes its hard, but you can do it.

something that should motivate you (worked on me)
think about your family, and how they feel, with you smokin and what not. like they care so much about you, and im sure she never thought her child would start smoking, you know? think about the pain that its causing for people around you.
and the best motivator, your health.
if youre not legal yet, and already seeing health effects, then that should help you see, that you need to stop now, cause it will get a lot worse in 5 years. you dont wanna have cancer, lose all your hair, and let down your family. thts the part that breaks my heart. i know my family loves me and would hate my stupid habit.

so start smoking less a day and motivate yourself.
pick up another hobby, i know there is something else you like to do.
chill with friends who dont smoke.

sry this was incredibly long ,but i wanna help you.

also, if your mom knows you smoke, then why cant she get you the patch or nicotine gum?

also, if you have an older friend, or a friend with an older sister, ask them to get you some.
i mean you found a way to get the cigarettes right?
then you can definitly find a way to get the patch and/or gum.

email me if you got any questions
i wish you best of luck!!
youll be in my prayers hun (:
I recommend cutting down gradually until your quit date. I did this. I cut down to half a pack. I did this for three months. I smoked by the puff, not by the cigarette. I took only the amount of nicotine that was necessary to satisfy my urge to smoke and put the rest of the cigarette out.

After doing this for three months I quit cold turkey.

Now I-m eating more candy to distract me but its been 4 months. I have urges but they don-t last more than a second or two. If they-re lasting more than that then you-re concentrating on the cigarette. Don-t do it. Concentrate on something else.
You can try something called how to stop smoking chinese style.

Take a betel nut and make a hole in it. Fill the hole with tobacco tar. Place the nut in boiling water for two hours, remove it. Whenever you feel the urge to smoke, sniff the nut instead. After three days you should no longer feel the urge to smoke. =)
I was just in the same situation as you so what I did was limit myself how many I smoked in a day and after every week go down one or two and do this till your down to none a day worked great for me because its all in your head and if you tell yourself you can do it then you will.
That leaves just about one way. Quit buying cigarettes.

my dad recently quit smoking (woo hoo no more second hand!) but hes been eating more normaly this wouldnt be to much of a problem except for the fact that he also has borderline diabetes so how can he get rid of his cravings?

P.S. hes a bit of a health nut exersizes like 3 hours a day uses the chuck noris home gym thing bearly eats any sweets. Hes just been eating more overal
He has to see a doctor because he is border-line diabetic. Only a professional can suggest dietary modifications and exercise regimes that won-t tip the scales in favor of diabetes.
A low GI diet is recommended for people with diabetes. If he-s getting plenty of fiber in his diet, he-s less likely to get cravings or feel hungry.

If he is borderline diabetic, it is ESSENTIAL that he gave up smoking, as the combination is absolutely lethal, so give your dad a big thumbs up.

If he-s having trouble sticking to a diet, he needs to see a nutritionist who can devise an eating plan for him.

Good news is, people who go on a diet when they give up smoking are more likely to stay smoke-free.
it is normal because in sted of smoking u eat after he is over smoking and is totally off he will be a bit fatter so just tell him to go to the gym or running
Ask if he would try chewing gum to help curb some of his food cravings.. and urges for a cigarette....it worked for me...

willing to quit but unable to do so! it is weakness, and sad to stay smoking thsoe cigrts.
by the way i am not into smoking weed or marjuana
cold turkey. And find something to suffice the oral fixation. Maybe flavored tootpicks or gum. Most importantly stay away from anything that will remind you or stimulate an urge to smoke. For example I use to like to smoke while I drink alcohol or around environments where everybody is smoking. Interestingly it is more psychological than psysiological (the addiction that is) so you will have more of a hard time dealing with the fact you want to smoke rather than feeling strong withdrawls. You will feel withdrawls but not for long. Also you must begin to despise smoking and become very healthy. your life as is mine will be very nice and happy. Good luck and I wish you a healthy and prosperous life, SMOKE FREE!
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
Eating baby carrots is a good option. Waht makes you somke?
Try auricular therapy. It stops the physical addiction, but if life gets too stressfull you will relapse if you don-t replace the bad habit with a good one.
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life.

Does hypnosis work to quit smoking? -

I want to quit smoking, its really a nasty habit. I can-t grasp the hypnosis idea fully because I can-t see where it would affect the physical addiction any, so if anyone out there used this method, I would love to hear about your experience and if it worked on you.
The only way to quit for good is to take the cigarettes you have on you and throw them all in the garbage. Tell yourself you-ll never buy another pack and stick with it. Try to realize the money and good heath your wasting on such a nasty habit. You-ll do fine.
No, it does not. It took me several tries with a patch until I finally made it. Your mind is stronger than hypnosis or patches or gum. You really have to want to quit to make it.
It-s only a temporary fix. If you want to smoke, you-re going to smoke. Nothing is going to stop you. It-s mind over matter.

I don-t know that I can maintain both my weight and not smoking at the same time. But, I don-t want to gain very much as an adverse side effect, either. Suggestions? Thank you.
Every time you think you are hungry, drink a glass of water and wait thirty minutes. If you-re still hungry for food after that, then eat something. If not, then you just needed water! A lot of the time our bodies need hydration, but we confuse the feeling of thirst for the feeling of hunger. Just another reason so many people are dehydrated.

If you genuinely are hungry for food, but don-t want to eat something at that time, try chewing sugar-free gum instead of eating. Don-t chew gum too often, as you may become afflicted with TMJ, but using it to pacify an oral fixation sparked by years of smoking should do the trick.

Good luck quitting!
Your body-s metabolism slows a bit when you quit smoking, as nicotine raises the metabolism - only slightly. So get going with some exercise - even a walk a day, or some sport, dancing etc.
Also some people replace smoking with food, so arm yourself with healthy stuff and stick to it!
There-s all the advice you need here:

http://www.quitguide.com/smoking-and-wei…

First Congradulations on making one of the most important health changes in your life !!!. When we smoke it raises our blood pressure and heart rate, so when we quit our metabolisim slows down. Therefore you need to try and speed up your metabolism through excercise, so join a health club, walk for half hour everyday. Have low cal snacks such as fresh veggies in the fridge at all times and a very important thing is increase your water intake. The water really helps to detoxify your body of the nicotine. Try to take up a new hobby that keeps your hands busy, and get plenty of rest. Another good idea is to chew sugarless gum till you get over that craving for nicotine.

My girlfriend hates that I smoke. Is there anyone with tips on how to stop smoking fast?
Your best best is patches. Those, with the encouragement from your girlfriend will be a great help.
You have to be determined AND there needs to be a consequence that will prevent you from falling off the wagon AND tell everyone you know so that they will help you keep your goal AND go -cold turkey-!

Good luck!
Smoke em till you make yourself sick, chew sugarless gum, suck on cinnamon sticks or toothpicks, change your habit.

When you would normally have a smoke, take a walk instead.
I have a blog that teaches you how to quit smoking in easy steps. Visit it in my sources.
Yes, you should stop.
nicoderm cq
hypnotherapy
cold turkey
the gum
why dont u teach her to smoke instead of quiting smoking.dont mind haaa..just joking
This is so hard to do...I smoke myself and have tried everything from patches to gum to welbutrin..none worked for me...I-m about to try something crazy but my friends did it and they are no longer smokers....you go to the doctor and they put a staple in your ear..no kidding and it makes ciggarettes taste gross...check out the web sight...
Starting of smoking comes in life as style. But gradually
a weak will power human goes in its trap.
If you want to quit, First start reducing the number of Cigarettes, Then start smoking only half, After that make your self strong willed man and stop it, You think that none of the things can rule you.
well i m a smoker and i DONT wanna quite and netehrer dose my man but here is a tip my dr told me once go cold turkey dont cut donw cause u smoke faster and get more nictone

good luck
Let me tell you. I have quit using meth, alcohol, and various other substances. But I can not kick cigarettes. It-s not easy and it makes you fat and angry. Damn! I need a cigarette.
Hypnosis worked for me did it 5 years ago best 50.00 i ever spent ,as a matter of fact im getting hypnotized tomorrow for weightloss.hope this helps good luck. p.s i smoked for 31 years and any where from 1 to 2 packs a day.
have candies or chewing gum instead of cigarette
mind over matter, you have to want to quit, i think its more of a habit than anything, like right fter you eat, or when your driving to work ect, instead chew gum or suck on hard candy do something else in its place
get advice from a doctor or someone who u know that quitted smoking
16 YRS smoker...dr. perscribed -wellbutrin-....WORKED
Every week reduce two to three sticks.Ultimately you wil
will be able to quit smoking. Not possible to stop fast.
I-ve tried it all. and it all come back to do you want it any more or not. i stopped two weeks ago. there have been times when i wanted one or several went was passing a gas station and thought about all the other time that i broke down and pulled in bough a pack and then was disappointed in my self. but i said no and i drove by. You and only you can make it happen. the patch, gum, help the crave but only you can stop the rave.
buy that gum and chew it like a cow when i doubt double up
my best friend could never stop smoking--he tried everything when finally he tried Zyban and within 3 days he couldn-t stand the sight, smell or taste of cigarettes...it was amazing!
Smoking is a dual habit.... both a physical addition, and a behavioral addiction. If you think of it, you probably smoke when you do certain things. You need to make an effort to change those patterns, you have to change your lifestyle so that you don-t activate those triggers.
Fast? lol.. no such thing. It-s a process. If you want to quit smoking -fast- then just don-t smoke. But, that-s very hard to do. I suggest finding something to do with your hands and chew on some gum. If that doesn-t work get the patch, fast! :)
12 Step program?
SSSSTTTTOOOOPPPP!!!!!! I know it isn-t easy.Do it or don-t.
You could try hypnosis. Consult a local psycologist for more information
1) Get Nicotine patches or gum.
2) Carry around hard candy or something to distract your body when you get a craving
3) Put a picture of your girlfriend on all your packs of cigs.
4) Get others around you to support you so they can tell you to put it down if they catch you wiht a cig.
5) Get her to nag you whenever she sees you smoking. Eventually you-ll just get so fed up and quit.

You need support and want to do it on your own!
Sit down and make a list of reasons why you should quit smoking. LIke - you-ll save money in the long run!

I hope this helps :)
Get Nicoderm CQ...have heard it works well...otherwise, stop cold turkey!Whatever you decide...Good Luck!
I used Zynex to quit...get a professional to help you. Its easier that way.
The patch works very well. If you-re a heavy smoker, though, the gum may work better. Talk to your doctor to find out what is best for you.
no program no 12 steps. this is how you do it. TRUST ME IT WILL WORK FOR YOU!!!!!

you know how when you wake up in the morning you do your bathroom thing and then right to a cig? well dont have your first cig. thats it. someone told me about this and i was like. -isn-t that like cold turkey?????- and they were like -no, just do it- so, i did. I woke up avoided my pack of smokes and that was that. i bought some gum on my way to class and that was 5 years ago
Seriously, you should check in to a hospital and get yourself on a saline drip IV for 2-3 days. It makes the withdrawl symptoms managable, and the atmosphere is not condusive to smoking.
How do I quit smoking? -

What kind of withdrawal symptoms do smokers go through when they quit smoking? -

What kind of withdrawal symptoms do smokers go through when they quit smoking? -

Cravings and withdrawal symptoms when you quit smoking are a common experience.
It is the way your body reacts when it stops getting nicotine and all the other chemicals in tobacco smoke.
Some withdrawal symptoms will come and go over a period of a few days. Most are gone within three weeks and not every smoker is affected to the same degree.
Cravings. Each one lasts 3 -5 minutes, and may be strong. Over time however, cravings will happen less often. More about cravings below.Headaches (occasional), indigestion, nausea, diarrhoea and sore throats rarely last more than four days.
Try usual over the counter remedies for these symptoms.
Insomnia and an increased tendency to dream.
Tea and coffee contain caffeine and, without nicotine, your body absorbs much more of this stimulant, which can make you restless, irritable and sleepless for a while.
Try drinking less tea and coffee, make your cups weaker.
Consider coffee substitutes, water, fruit juice and caffeine-free cola drinks.
Coughing most commonly caused by the cilia that line your lungs cleaning out the tar and mucus.
Irritability, depression or anxiety are closely connected to the physical action of nicotine leaving your body and will lessen over one to three weeks.
Increased appetite and possible weight gain.
Tiredness and lack of concentration.
Try and relax more during the first few weeks any tiredness will pass.
Take a break from what your doing and take a short walk if possible to help concentration.
The first few days after you quit can be the hardest.
The most problematic symptom tends to be cravings.
I guess it-s different for everyone, but when I don-t smoke for a while, I just get a bit cranky and crave a cigarette. In my opinion this whole -addiction- craze put out by the media has led everyone, even smokers, to believe that nicotine is much more addictive then it really is.
you get more hungry irritable at times and ive seen some smokers shake cause they needed nicotine but otherwise if u keep ur hands occupied and ur mind off of smoking and chew gum u wont get the hungry symptom some even let go to smoking and start putting salt on everything which is really bad
People feel low ..lack of interest in activities and excessive hunger and thurst.

u need to be in the outdoor , active life to get out of it ...

developing a hobby like playing a game ( outdoor) join for swimming calsses or go swimming can help
people become retsless anddepressed. they keep longing for smoking again. addicts to smoking can-t quit smoking easily. they should go to some rehabilitation centres.
Irritability! That-s the biggest complaint. Smokers don-t only complain about it, there friends and families complain about it too.
they stop smoking for awhile, and then start up again cause of stress, they might get cranky, crabby, an might not be thereselves!
LETS JUST SAY THEY ARE A LITTLE IRRITABLE!!!!!

really.
I-ve gone through it many times.
Its the main reason why people go back to it - because they cant stand the feeling of wanting to throttle everyone to death.
feeeeeling more hungry
nothing realy except for want to smoke

Send me your stash.
well marijuana has no physically addictive chemicals in it. so truthfully if you want to stop smoking all you have to do is stop smoking. just dont find yourself saying -i need to smoke- make sure your saying -i want to smoke- when i have to stop because of a drug test i still hang out with my friends when they smoke except i have fun with them and try to tweak them out as much as possible. its really cruel but one of the funniest things you can do.
uh? stop inhaling and take the joint out of your mouth.
nothing else to it. If its become a habit for you just do something else besides smoke. (anything, watch tv or something)
its not addictive. and if you think it is you-ve just tricked yourself into thinking weed is addictive.
marijuana is not addictictive so if you really want to stop then just stop. its really that easy. dont whine no you dont know how hard i do because i smoked every day for about 15 yers, then i had kids and relized i cant keep ******* around. they are late teens now and they have accually invited me to smok with them haha apple dosent fall too far from the tree.
peace sonnn.
pick up a sport like skating football etc. make sure you have things to do during weekends when you-re board like video games and friends also don-t loose you stoner friends just make some new friends to that you can hang out with while you other friends are blazing after a while you will loose the habit of wanting to get high and you be fun hey at least its not addicting
To all the people who say it-s not addictive - YOU HAVE NO IDEA. It ruins peoples lives because ADDICTS can-t give it up, they would rather smoke it than give up, even though they know what it is doing to them and the people around them. It kills your brain cells. It can cause as much damage to your lungs as cigarettes. You just have to have the strength to stop and keep telling yourself you are doing this to improve your life, because it will. Good luck.
honestly? you might not like this answer..

i used to smoke weed. Alot. then one night, the guy i get it from only had half of what i-d paid for, so he gave me 2 grams of P. Cubensis (Shrooms). I-d never had thought that i-d do shrooms before this moment, but i thought, eh, what the heck?

after this night i-ve done shrooms a total of about 3 more times. now, i never get that, -god i wanna get high- type feeling. (I-ve spaced the shrooms use a week apart each trip), and for the past week i haven-t smoked any at all. the WANT is just not there. i could care less now, about being high. i actually have to force myself to smoke it, just so that i can get something in me.

so, by experience, the only way i know is to have a very good shrooms trip. the only problem from there is weening yourself off of the shrooms.
Do you like to smoke ? Does is have effects that you dont like ? Does it impair you ? If it has negative effects then think about that. Once you stop it is easy to continue not smoking. You wont even feel like you need to smoke.
**** rehab. Wedd isnt addictive (physically), just stop smoking it, thats it. I used to smoke a lot and one day i just dropped it, never felt the urge to go and smoke at all.
considering marijuana is not physically addicting.. stop buying sacks.

But, why quit?
I personally don-t think it-s addictive, so just...don-t smoke it. I have no problem not smoking it even if I have for a month straight or so. Just keep yourself occupied with other things.
Marijuana is not addictive. The best way to quit is to not buy any more.
Start by hanging out with people who don-t. Much of addiction is related to surroundings.
Go to a med school and ask to see an open cadaver-s lungs, makes you think of a sewer pipe.
just quit, throw out the pipe, papers or bong...wht ever uve got and take up a new hoppie just make sure its not a bad one
Start smoking poles
rehab
start smoking crack.
SMOKE

ARE YOU SMOKING YET?
dont start
Take THC pills.

throw away all cigs, NOW
do it the natural way smoke less gradually and then ull stop needing it as much ... fast is never good... find another thing to do instead of smoking ... like chewing your gum
Throw your ciarettes away and say that-s it!
I did it 7 years ago and think it is one of the best things I have ever done! Good luck!
quit cold turkey. The sooner you quit, the healthier you will be for your children and grandchildren to enjoy you!
Get a jam jar fill it with water put all your used cigarette butts in it, leave it for a while then take a sniff it will either knock you out or make you throw up . that should do the trick!!!!!!! you can but try it!!!!
First of all, there isn-t any fast or easy way. However, I was a pack a day smoker for ten years and I haven-t smoked a cigarette for the last five years. Here-s how I did it. When I got the urge to smoke, I didn-t smoke the whole cigarette. Who decided what the size of cigarettes should be anyway? I would just take a couple of drags off of it and put it out. This quickly cut me down to half a pack. Then I started inhaling only part of the smoke. The idea was to wean my body off the effects of nicotine (There has been research that suggests the addiction to nicotine is stronger than that of heroin). I just kept on inhaling less and less of the smoke until I was hardly inhaling any of it all. Four months after I had started this whole thing, I just quit buying cigarettes. Now, I-m not going to tell you I don-t occasionally get urges to smoke. All recovering addicts (and that-s what you, and I, are) get urges, but so far I have been able to avoid getting back into the habit. Whatever you decide to do, whether it-s the patch or cold turkey or whatever, it-s going to take commitment on your part. Ain-t gonna be easy and I wish you good luck.
Chewwing gum when you want to smoke
Quit smoking .This is the fastest way.You can try nicotin derma plasters to quit smoking for a while than you may quit smoking and using plasters anymore.Take care
throw on a nicotine patch and get yourself into a support group
My mom had really good luck with the patch. And will power. GOOD LUCK!
motivation, nicotine chewin gums n nicotine patches help a lot since its the nicotine in a cegarette tht u crave for.. other drugs r available but they r for addicts.. chain smokers tht is..

Is this a side effect of quitting smoking? -

I-m 3 days into quitting smoking with nicotine replacement therapy. It-s the 4th or 5th time I-ve done this and each time I notice my skin gets kinda blotchy/rashy in parts, on my face. I heard somewhere that this can happen as cigarette toxins leave the body. Anyone know if this is true or just a myth?
I don-t know about the toxins, but it could be due to the stresses you body/mind is experiencing from quitting.
Its a myth, you are probably allergic to the nicotine replacement agent, call your doc and let them know, they can probably suggest a different replacement therapy. Eventually with a allergic reaction it can turn into a more serious reaction, like difficulty breathing, swellling of the throat and airways. Don-t give up quitting tobacco, though.
It-s probably just a reaction to quitting smoking, but you should check with you doctor just in case to make sure it-s not a reaction to the nicotine stuff. Good for you quitting smoking!!! Chew gum whenever you feel like you need to smoke... Trust me it actually helps. :)
I think it is true but it should go away in a few more days if you don-t smoke. If not you might want to get checked by a doctor, it could be an allergic reaction to the treatment you are using.

By the way, congratulations on trying to quit and good luck!
Most likely.
You-re body isn-t used to the change yet
so it-s just having some weird reactions right now.
If it persists for too long, I-d see a doctor.
It-s probably nothing though.
I-d wait it out for a bit and see what happens.
possibly -drink more water - see your doctor.
Another name for side effects of stopping smoking is withdrawal symptoms. And then there are side effects from the stop smoking aids depending on the individual and their addictions, which are used while trying to lessen the withdrawal symptoms. Fortunately, there are very few stop smoking side effects.

In fact, smokers who give up smoking become healthier while living longer as compared to those who fail to do so. They only have to battle a brief period when they give up smoking -- the period when the withdrawal symptoms are most prominent, a time when they feel anxious, irritable, confused and depressed. They may also suffer from a slower heartbeat, increased appetite, and weight gain. However, all these can be controlled through proper counseling and exercises.

The reason for the withdrawal is the body demanding for its supply of nicotine. When going cold turkey, this period can range from 72 hours to two weeks of intenseness and pain, with the amount depending on the smoker and their addiction. The nicotine replacement therapy is especially useful in reducing the side effects as it feeds this hunger for nicotine.

The patient can use nicotine gum, nicotine inhaler, or nicotine patches to release small quantities of nicotine in the bloodstream to lesson the urge to smoke. Because the body is given this drug, it lowers depression and improves well being. They can also use alternative therapies like Tai Chi, Qi Gong, or Yoga to relieve stress and make life without cigarettes more bearable. Another possibility is the use of laser therapy that releases endorphins in the blood stream, making an individual feels better.

The 60% smokers who are most prone to side effects are those who suffer from depression, who usually are requiring extensive counseling and support from family members and friends. Many of them are put on Zyban, an FDA-approved drug that helps to reduce the urge to smoke and is also beneficial for treating depression among those who quit.

Known by the name Bupropion, it desensitizes the brain-s nicotine receptors, with seizures as its main side effects in less than one in 1,000. Other side effects, such as insomnia, dry mouth, and headaches are usually more common. Another side effect of quitting smoking is weight gain, usually putting on 5 to 8 pounds of weight, which should not be considered a dangerous side effect.

You should remember that smoking is much more injurious to health than gaining weight, which is controllable through exercise, dieting or Yoga. But you can-t undo the damage caused by smoking to your health. Your first priority therefore must be to give up smoking as you will feel better, healthier and more energetic in the long run.

hi i want to quit smoking and i have tryed patches and so on so I-m going to try and do it on my own have you any tips for me i really dont injoy it and it has just become an habit. thanks for your av ice xxx
I truly believe you will find it quite easy to quit. You don-t enjoy smoking and it sounds like you have no real emotional attachment to it either.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

A friend of mine was trying to do the same thing and everytime she went to do it, something drastic would happen and she would turn right back to it. She would basically go cold turkey. That doesn-t work for everyone. What I can suggest you do is find out what makes you want to smoke at what particular time you do it. In other words, what is it you are doing that make you want or need a cigarette. Most people need to smoke when they are on the toilet or when they drink coffee or when they see someone else light one up. Some people need to smoke just to drive. If you are one of these people then just think to yourself -what is this cigarette doing for me other than hurting me?- Or ask yourself this question -Is this cigarette feeding me?- My mom came to terms and TOLD herself -It-s not feeding me food or giving me energy so why do I need it?- everytime she craved one and now she hasn-t smoke in the last 22 years and can-t stand the smell of other people smoking. I hope I helped.
