How to quit smoking. Please help me.i wanna quit it at all? -

only one way to quit smoking
just quit
in Case u have a cigarette in ur hand while reading this then just throw it and say i quit and don-t lite any more
that-s it, how simple
but it-s not so simple if u have been smoking for a long time
long term smokers need a strong determination to quit, stop with another friend together, take some medical help, have alternate work to do when u get craving for the smoke
do exercise since u will put on weight
eat balanced diet
wish u smoke related disease free life in future
all the best to quit smoking and help others to do so
I quit smoking two weeks ago, but i must admit i had help from my doctor, he gave me a course of tablets called Zyban, and they work, it also takes will power but its better than all those Nicotine replacement therapies out there, But one thing i didn-t do is go to any therapy, groups etc, because in my opinion they wouldn-t of worked for me because i know i am giving up so i don-t need to talk about it and remind myself about smoking, i found distraction worked better. Good luck as i know how difficult it can be.
see a therapist or a doctor. if you are a longtime user, you may need a bit of medical help. cold turkey works but is for the truly determined. you will also have to get over all the things that go along with smoking like the hand position and the social aspect. don-t be afraid to ask a friend, family member or doc for help. understand that you may very well relapse but that that-s ok, you are just getting better and better at dealing with whatever cravings you do have. good luck
i was a chain smoker when i was in teens. I had a wrong notion that smoking helps to think better, it is manly to smoke. This habit continued even after my marriage.. but my wife did not like it. so to cover it, i used some sort of supari , but even then my wife used to find it, and we had some unpleasant quarrels over it. Then we had our first child. one of my neighbor was an elderly man, he advised me not to smoke as i am now a father of a child; this he told me, will create wrong impression on him, and when he grows up , he will also start the same habit. I thought about my son smoking in future and that made me to stop smoking.. i just stopped.. my appetite improved, my relationship with my wife also improved; if you have that WILL TO LEAVE SMOKING HABIT- YOU CAN SURELY DO IT..
Resolve it to day.. that you will never smoke.. and keep it that way.. i am sure you can...
First believe that you have lot of responsibility in this world and you have many things to think do not waste your time on how to stop its not a big deal you do not require it that-s it.
FOR QUITING SMOKING THE ONLY THING YOU REQUIRE IS YOUR FIRM DECISION NOT TO SMOKE. tHERE IS NO MEDICINES FOR THE SAME AND IT CAN BE STOPPED ONLY WITH YOUR FIRM DECISION

http://www.upstate.edu/cdb/grossanat/img…

don-t quit
take a stand against political correctness

First, practice deep breathing every time you feel that urge to smoke a cigarette. Make sure to inhale a lung-full of air that you can muster in one breath. Then, let the air escape through your lips slowly. This simple act is a basic form of yoga and can be useful when you are placed in stressful situations that may urge you to light up a cigarette.
Second, it is always advisable to take in a lot of fluid. There-s nothing water can-t heal, goes one famous saying, and it stands true because drinking large amounts of water will aid your body to wash out the nicotine and other toxins that corrupt your body.

Third, write down all the positive things of being a non-smoker. Jotting down these advantages will open your eyes and enlighten your frame of thinking which was primarily clouded with the addiction to smoking. Be sure to read aloud all the good things that you-ve written down. In this way, you get to condition yourself to avoid thinking of going back to your addiction.
Fourth, indulge in simple pleasures. You can try pampering yourself by enjoying a day at a spa to release all the bad vibes and stressful tensions that may serve as impetus to your smoking spree.

How to help a person to quit smoking? -

If they really want to quit smoking and are serious, I would urge them to go to (or call) their family doctor and get a prescription for CHANTIX.
It works by tying up the nicotine receptors in the brain, so you don-t have the cravings. It works really well. The person would have to work on behavioral issues, such as habitually wanting a cigarette when getting up, after a meal, while on the phone or in the car, etc.

I had tried to quit about ten times, once for 6 months, but never could keep away from the cigarettes. With Chantix, I quit despite some really stressful events in my life, and while I occasionally want a cigarette, it-s a mild craving. I haven-t smoked in 21 months.

As for some quitting tips, tell the person to take a shower when possible when they have a craving, or: brush their teeth, exercise strenuously to cause deep breathing, take up swimming, distract themselves by going to a movie, walking, staying away from those situations where the person previously smoked (bars), telling everyone they know that they-re quitting, eating celery or carrots, chewing gum.

I wish the both of you very good luck!!
People often smoke when they are nervous about sth because it comforts them for a short moment and once they are done they get nervous again and pull out another cigar.

I wouln-t let these people alone, i would invite them to go out with me, to go to a movie and have fun. when they are happy and having fun they would not want to touch a cigar. bear in mind, the idea of having fun doesn-t mean to make them addicted to sth else like beer.
You tell them every thing it dose. then you tell them what it is doing to them right now then you tell them it affects them long term and if they dont quit now it might be fatal. they also need to wana quit as well.
Throw them in a closet, lock the ******* door and don-t let them out for about a week. That should do it.

How to quit smoking without taking any medicines or hypsosis? -

there are many ways to do that. but lets- say one thing that works for me may not work for you. every one is different and you need to find out what works best for you.
1.the first thing is that your will power .
2. decide that you want to quit and why do you want to do that.
3. ask yourself that why you cannot quit.
4. one thing that worked for me is that I (and most people) usually link smoking to something else. like, I used to smoke after a meal, when I wake up in the morning, after my lecture...etc......try to break that link, don-t smoke at the usual time you always do. this helps a lot..................hope I was any help.
i quit smoking just like that and it is now almost 6 years without a cigarrette
just stop smoking- no patches, no gums, no drugs nothing
Cold turkey
Don-t buy anymore. Quit hanging around other smokers.
Just stop it. Use celery and carrot sticks to keep your hands and mouth occupied until all of the cravings pass. It-s tough but you can do it.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
cold turkey and will power
You just need your own strenght and will. Eat some mint buble gum everytime you feel need for smoke.
i would think non-possitive thouts think about it. you dont quit think about all that gun kand crap that will go into your lungs and heart down load some pictures from the internet that will sort you out!
I used a Q-Ray to stop smoking...I have heard that it helps with biting nails too. About 5 of my friends have them, and they say it works like magic. It-s a bit unclear how they work, but I just went by a friends word, and BAM it worked for me....

hope this helps

Obama Smokes?
Apparently he stopped during his campaign, but he still smokes now. He-s chewing gum and ****, so he-s trying hard to quit. So what though? smoking isn-t going to impair his ability to run this country! I smoke about half a pack to a pack a day and I get straight A-s. it-s not like it hurts your ability to think or anything.

Plus, with all the **** he-s faced with now? I-d need a cigarette every now and then too.

Once you quit smoking, how long does nicotine stay in your system ? -

Once you quit smoking, how long does nicotine stay in your system ? -

the first three days of quitting -cold turkey- are the hardest, i assume because that-s the normal time it takes to clear the nicotine out of your system (but i-ve read it can take 14 days). drink plenty of water and GOOD LUCK !!!
nicotine is a short acting short lasting drug, this is why smokers have to keep smoking to get their fix. Generally, once your quit, all nicotine is out of your system in 24 hours, it can take up to a year for the body to get rid of all the other toxins you get with cigarettes, like the tar that builds up in your lungs and the cyanide that builds up in your bones and hair.
It takes quite a few months I believe. I have emphysema and COPD so I-m doomed. I-m here on borrowed time. If you smoke, quit now! Believe me! Its NOT worth the cost and suffering you will encounter over the years.

I have decided to try to quit smoking for sake of getting pregnant, and in the past have tried almost all the -gigs- smokeaway, niccorette, all of em and none have worked for me? any tips for quitting that wont put me in withdrawls. also if anyone knows after i quit, how long will it take to become pg?
It may take many tries. You will almost always have withdrawals. The physical addition should be gone in 2 weeks. The rest is phycological. Do you always smoke when you drive, or talk on the phone, or with a cup of coffee? Then you will get the urge. Ask your doctor if there are smoking cessation programs in your area. They have the resources and knowledge to help you quit and deal with the situations that will tempt you to start again. They can also prescribe Chantix or Zyban. Smokers get pregnant all the time. So there is no time after you quit that it will take for you to get pregnant. Should be good motivation for you!
No telling how long it will take to get pregnant. Keep track of you ovulation cycle. See a fertility specialist.
I-m trying to quit smoking as well, what surprised me was that when my friends quit, they said going cold turkey was better than trying the nicorette stuff and all those gums.
There is a drug that is supposed to be proved to help people quit smoking. State insurance covers it. I guess you can still smoke for the first week you are on it then after a week I guess you shoudn-t have any cravings. The medicine is called Bupropion. I am getting my prescription next month.
please remember the time when your first time start to smoke. What did you feel? Make sure that the cigarrete is not deliciouse. Think about it five minutes before you take a ciggarette to smoke. I-m sure, you will stop your smoke.
A FRIEND OF MINE SUGGESTED TO ASK A DR.ABOUT A PILL,SUPPOSED TO REALLY HELP W NO SIDE AFFECTS.MYSELF IM GOING TO TRY THIS.THEN ULL BE ALRIGHT TO GET PG,BUT PLZ TALK W UR DR.OKAY
I tried all the gimmicks, finally quit for good cold turkey 6 and 1/2 years ago. A friend did the laser and has been successful for 8 months so far. Both times my wife got pregnant she got sick when she smoked, that-s how we knew for sure she was pg the second time. She could not have smoked if she wanted to.

What is the best way to quit smoking?????????????????? -

first of all u shouldnt quit smoking suddenly
u have to do it gradually
for example u used to smoke 10 cigarettes daily
try to reduce that n umber for the next week 8
for the next 6 per day
for the nest week 3
and till u smoke 1 cigarette each week
blood renew itself each week
so ur body used to need more smoke from ur cigarettes
so try this
Don-t smoke anymore.
Listen very carefully, this is the absolute best way, DO NOT LIGHT THE CIGARETTE!!
Get a horrible cold and sinus infection. Worked for me, I couln-t stand the smell of smoke for about 6 weeks. When the cold was gone, so were the cravings. I still smoke occasionally, but I don-t have the habit, and I can take them or leave them.
i wanna ask the same thing!! i hate not being able to quit real fast /easy but i heard cold turkey is the best, only way.
Try to count how much money u spend on smoking each month. See how much u could save each year? What all u could by with that money? Good luck;)
shifting to some other habit which will not turn to columns of vice
Well, first you have to really want to give up. Smoking is very addictive, and stopping can sometimes be difficult. There are patches that you can get from stores like CVS and Walgreens that help you stop smoking(they decrease your attatchment to smoking..or somthing of that sort). Theres lots of different ways(that im not really educated on) but you can ask people who work at pharmacies and stuff. I wish you best of luck=)
same dont smoke
Hypnosis
well here-s how i quit i just threw away lighter and cigs and never pick them back up
Waxingthe and kobay have no idea! I am trying too and it-s very difficult, heroin addicts get more sympathy! I just try to stay busy and not do the things that I normally smoke doing, for instance I normally drink vodka and coke, now I dring wine so that I won-t miss the cigarette so much. Try to stay away from the things you associate with smoking.
Hi,

I quit this time last year having had a 30 a day habit. I-d tried and failed with allsorts until I a friend recommended this program - see below.

It also came with a 100% money back guarantee and has a 90% success rate - can-t say fairer than that!

All the best.

What are my chances of getting copd if i quit smoking at age 29 and have a 3.5 pack year smoking history? -

dont answer if you dont know what pack years is......

also dnt preach about quitting smoking i know that.
Because people have different body makeups as how well there immune system fights off toxins, I or anybody could not give you -odds- of getting COPD. A 3.5pack year smoking history is ambiguous .... is that your total pack year history? Say if you smoked for 5 years, then your pack year history 17.5 years. But if you truly have just a 3.5 year pack history, then the odds are slim. The chances become greater the earlier your started smoking.
0 you are big they wont say anything you are big to smoke thanks .
after 10yrs of abstinence, the risk is same as that in a normal non-smoker
The risk is the same my friend.

I-m sorry,
Charlie

Just wondering if there are any studies about this, and if no, what kind of formula would be used to determine the benefits of quitting smoking, after smoking for say 10 years, and what effect that would have on how long you continue to live. Interesting?
hi mike..

Therese a bunch of figures out there..im sure they have some medical studies.. that ten year figure alluded too by another is the most common one i have heard..

in the online support community folks use -quit meters- these enumerate the money saved cigarettes not smoked, and there is a place life saved.. from what i have been told, that life saved is figured 10 Min-s per cigarette..

That-s just an average, and it assumes you keep smoking. The reality is somewhat more complicated, forex, if you stop, your life expectancy starts to go back to what it had been before you smoked and with every year it gets closer. So you do get some of those minutes back.
Yeah. It doent matter how long you smoke, or If you quit. Everytime you smoke, The cigarette Releases A certain amount of -- bad oxygen -- or whatever you want to call it. I would say if you smoked about 10 years and quit.... youve lost about maybe a year of life. It deoends how many times a day you would smoke.
The risk factors of dying of smoking related diseases will go down significantly after 10 years. It doesn-t take the villi in the lungs too long to recover after quitting and the lungs heal themselves.
Good question. I know that your lungs start healing just a soon as you quit so I would guess that you would get at lease some of those minutes back.
So if smoking a cigarette takes 11 minutes off your life, and you quit, youve still lost all that time right? -

Question for anyone woh has quit smoking? -

did you feel better once you quit, everyone i have asked that has quit said they feel about the same. just curious i would like to quit soon.
What you heard is generally true. After the first two weeks when you-re basically cured you are not going to feel some kind of overwhelming higher state of health. But I don-t think that-s the reason you should quit smoking besides the fact that smoking will eventually kill you and possibly kill your loved ones around you. I cite a story where a Hollywood writer smoked for 20 years with his best friend and cowriter in the same office. His best friend did not smoke but ended up getting lung cancer. I believe one of the biggest things and benefits from quitting smoking is not stinking. Most of the time you don-t realize this and most people won-t tell you but when you walk up to them after smoking a cigarette you stink like hell. The other thing I would like you to think about is what do you do with your cigarette butts. I find in general that most smokers are unconscious as they flipp their cigarette butts out of their car windows, onto the street or throw them down on the ground and sometimes squash them out. If you become conscious about your cigarette butts you may realize that you are quite a trashy person even though you wouldn-t think of throwing the wrapper from a hamburger on the ground or generally throw your trash out your car window. When you quit smoking you will hack out tons of brown crap for about a month after you quit. Think about that stuff accumulating year after year inside your lungs. Do the math you will be saving a lot of money. The first step in quitting is never buy your favorite brand again. Never buy the same brand again when you switch. This method immediately reduces the pleasure of smoking and sends you on your way in the right direction. Also don-t beat yourself up if you slip backwards in your practice of quitting smoking. What the experts say is quitting smoking is a matter of practicing quitting. Just like playing a musical instrument, just like playing golf, just like making love. The more you practice the better you get at it. This works the same way in quitting smoking the more times you practice quitting eventually you become such an expert at practicing quitting it will happen.
i quit a little over a year ago...cold turkey. i felt much better. more energy, less headaches and the biggest improvement i noticed was my skin!!! before i quit smoking, everytime i laughed i went into a coughing fit...no more now. i rarely get out of breath. i feel much better. the key to quitting is to exercise. good luck.
i felt like **** for a few months
Please quit. I quit about several months ago. The first month was hard with the psychological addiction and just the habit of having a smoke at certain times. Now I feel much better. I can actually breath and don-t get winded when I exercise. My skin looks healthier and I have lost the 10 lbs I put on.

I started putting the $$$ I spent on smokes in a jar and now have almost $1000. I am going to use it for a vacation!

Congratulations on your and your husband-s decision to quit.
What made it easy for me was to occupy my time with something else. College will do that to you. I also removed myself from the places that i used to smoke (the bar), at least until you can overcome the cravings.
There is a good chance you will be irritable and so will he. Try also putting yourselves in a less stressful place during the first few days. i.e. Stop on Friday morning and then leave for the weekend.
The last thing i started doing was running. When i started running my chest was on fire at about .5 miles. This started subsiding after about 2 weeks. I had a few cigarettes about a month in and my chest was on fire again. The physical pain was enough to overcome the cravings while I am out with friends now.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.
Anytime you have a craving, get online and look for negative aspects of smoking to hinder your craving. Then look for benefits of quitting to reinforce your will power. Once you-ve done that, start surfing something totally unrelated... It works, and really gets your mind off of smoking. Go ahead and try it. If you can make it two weeks, then you can make it two years. Believe me!!!
Try Nicocure: To help you get over the desire to smoke, take Nicocure every day for a month. Users have observed the loss of desire to smoke just within 2 weeks. Even if you want to smoke during that period, it gives tobacco products a horrible taste, thus reducing your urge to cheat.

It is a completely natural patch that claims to help you get over the instances of withdrawal and cravings. Its ingredients can mimic the effect of nicotine in the body but without the use of nicotine. Its primary ingredient is Lobelia Inflata (Indian tobacco). It controls cravings and gives tobacco an awful taste.

please serious answers only.
I HAVE THE ANSWER, AND THIS IS A FACT AND IT HELPED ME TOTALLY QUIT WITH NO WITHDRAWAL. I AM NOT SELLING ANYTHING SO PLEASE READ:

I wanted to stop my 2 pack a day habit. I came across a book in the library called The easy way to stop smoking by ALLEN CARR, he was from england. In this book he shows you the way and why people think they have to have withdrawal and mood swings when it is just their mind basically being uninformed about what nicotene really is and how to cure that addiction.
If you get the book, or now his cd-s and listen to them, you will have the tools to quit with almost no withdrawals or mood swings. He has saved millions from smoking and the patch and gum are gimmicks by the drug industry to keep pumpin nicotene in your system.
I will give you one statement from the book. 93% of all nicotene is out of your system by the time you wake up in the morning after 6-8 hours of sleep and nicotene is the most addictive drug known to man, how can that be, that you can sleep thru the whole night without a smoke and the strongest willed people are the ones who smoke not the weakest.
This might just save your life and I am for damn real straight on this one cause I am two years with no withdrawals.
Good Luck,
Just read the book and you can smoke away while you read, he encourgages you to and does not talk down to you.
THIS IS YOUR ANSWER.
Your assistant
I hope it does too. I still have a pic on my cell phone of my last cig. that i smoked and I do not even want one anymore, the thought of it actually is not even appealing to me. Good Luck., Thanks.

Use chewing tobacco, I am also trying to quit and recently using chew (aka snus) and i have had no cravings, and no mood swings.

But dont have to much. only when your craving a cigg

then when you stop having cravings, simply through out the chew

good luck :)
It-s rather easy, 1st try chewing gum to occupy you mouth from having a cigarette in it, 2nd try a fake cigarette that has water vapors that come out when you blow it out, 3rd have a friend hide your cigarettes and have your family with you when you go out of the house to keep you from buying cigarettes.
It is very hard. I was prescribed prozac when I quit but I am not a big fan of pills so I quit taking them and ate alot of liqorice. I quit for 9 years and then start again. It is a everyday battle but if you can get past the ten minute intense craving you will be fine. Best of Luck to you.
Bupropion and diazepam(short term). See your doctor.
cut back gradually, until your down to one a day before you quit, or try nicotine patches or gum...
good luck
If you go to a doctor, he/she can prescribe you Welbutrin. It is an anti-depressant, so it stops your cravings.
Chantix (prescription medicine). I have tried many ways - that way was the best and easiest.
none
use patches..

id just say keep smoking though, man.. whats the difference..

what have you got to lose?

Have you heard the phrase you can lead a horse to water, but can-t make it drink? Well , the same is true with people you can teach them the effects of smoking , but until their ready to admit they have a problem they will not listen. Unfortunately some decide to stop and change when it-s too late.

I don-t feel that I am eating more yet I have gained about 7 pounds since I quit smoking 3 months ago. I still watch what I eat and exercise 3-4 times a week. Is this temporary?
I quit smokin 5 months ago ..I gained at least 10 pounds more...I didn-t think I was eating more....but the food does taste now....I never realized it had a taste....I still worked out but I am actually thinking of starting to smoke again...I want to lose my weight again...and nothing else is working! Sad but true...the only thing stopping me is that I hate the smell of smoke on ur clothes...I didn-t think I smelled bad...but now I can smell a smoker a mile away! its nasty...and I must have smelled like that too....and here I was puttin on nice perfume and everything! good luck too u...
YES!!!
it is not temporary
you are eatimg more or you are pregnant
Yes don-t worry stick to your routine, if you want to speed it up a bit add more fiber because smoking is like a mild laxitive and hence the body has less time to absorb the fat and calories fiber will do the same
Smoking actually increases your metabolism, which makes you burn more calories, I actually gained 100 lbs over a 2 year period, and the weight gain started when I stopped smoking. I have lost it since then

I lost 105 pounds in 6 months. Here is how I did it.
1. Every morning get up and walk for 45 minutes. You can start with less time, but you want to get up to 45 minutes, and it must be fast walk. You want your heart rate to go up. It must be in the morning, it kick starts your metabolism.
2. I cut out Red Meat, and fatty foods. Boneless skinnless chicken breast, baked, or grilled, rice and vegetables (steamed).
3. Eat half. Just eat half of what you normally eat. Put 1/2 on your plate, and put the rest away. Cook less. When you go to fast food, get salads only. Or grilled chicken. No fries, only diet soda. Or water.

It will work, once you get into a routine, you will get hooked on the results, and you will keep the routine. It has been over a year for me.

A sight with some really cool diet calculators and interesting calorie counting calculators is here. Check it out.

I tried to quit 3 times till now... always managed not to smoke for 3-4 months but after that i cant help it! Any suggestions?
get a hobby like sex lol if you work out how many ciggys a day u have just think of all the sex u will get haha ur gf will go insane
om
try nicotine or lolly pops, sweets, chewys, etc
Wearing the patch helps wean you from cigarettes by providing a controlled dose of nicotine; bupropion reduces your craving for nicotine and the severity of any withdrawal symptoms. But the combination can cause blood pressure to rise, which potentially could cause a stroke. The two together are generally reserved for people who have a severe addiction to nicotine and haven-t been able to quit with the help of either drug alone. Ask your doctor about starting with bupropion, and have your blood pressure checked frequently. And good luck.
Chantix...but there are riskes associated with that as well. Talk to your physician.

The only true and correct answer to your question is....
WHATEVER WORKS FOR YOU
start drinking...

or pick up a hobby, thats how my boyfriend did it.

How can I quit smoking? -

I-ve tried quitting cold turkey countless times to no avail.
I quit a long time ago. I found that I had to change all my activities that I associated with smoking - for me - chatting on the phone was one big thing that I always smoked. So for the 1st yr., I couldn-t chat on the phone for too long or the cravings would get too strong. Also, after eating a meal, I craved a cigarette, so I had to get up and do something.

Really, when you-re trying to quit anything, you can-t just quit and be dormant, you have to replace that activity with another activity to keep busy and keep your mind off of it. Try things that are more active like going for a walk or doing something with your hands etc. For the first little while, it might be a bit frantic, but jump on a treadmill if you have to or go biking or do something that will really burn off that extra anxiety of going without. Anything you-re trying to quit has to be replaced with some other activity otherwise, that ritual is still there. We all have particular times and events that we associate with a certain activity so leaving that time period blank gives you too much time to give in to tempation. It also leaves a bit of a hole.

I also did something else - I used to carry an unopened (still in the shrink wrap) pack of cigarettes around with me all the time. And I used to say to myself that I could have one later if I wanted to. I know that most people may not be like that but for me, it was too hard to not have them -then I would crave them even more. If I had them with me (unopened) then I felt more comfortable and I could just keep postponing it until I finally had gone a whole year. If you think this might work for you, just beware of other people asking you for a smoke - if you open that pack for someone else, your will power will go out the window carrying an open pack with you.

You might even find that some of your friends may change. It-s surprising how much of an activity smoking really is. Especially just lounging around having a smoke. You might make a few new friends in an active crowd.

And you-ll be quite surprised how much more money you have in your pocket to do other things.

Good luck!!! :)
have a strong determination to quit! you know full well that smoking only gives you temporary feelings of relief and could give you a life time problem with your respiratory system...

if you have problem doing it alone, ask your friends to help you(that if they are non-smokers :P)...

don-t listen to the guy who first answered your question, he-s gonna die eventually of lung problems [j/k]^^
just decide that you dont want to do it anymore, every time you crave a cigarette remember any reason you think to smoke is just an excuse and is not valid.

dont do anything thatll make you want to smoke, like dont try chewing gum, when i did it it reminded me i smoked.

find something else to do. heres a few things you can use to -replace the habit-

if you find yourself smoking on breaks or whatever, just find something else to pass the time, buy some cards maybe.

if you need something in your mouth you can carry around flavored toothpicks maybe.

if you have the -need a cig after a meal- try -have a small glass of water after a meal followed by a mint or desert-. you know how hard it is to smoke when you have minty breath or a chocolate aftertaste.

the biggest thing is just to decide to quit and decide that you want to stick with it. ive quit before and its lasted long enough to break it as a habit, recently ive found myself um, lets just say the pack i bought last week still has cigs left in it, and i havent had a single one all day.

also tobacco use increases the risk of heart disease and stroke, this doesnt seem like a big deal, but if you know what its like to feel like youre about to die and your hearts freaking out, or if you get lung troubles and can barely breathe, it kinda turns you off. i had some bad panic attacks that made me realize if they were nothing, how serious a heart attack or lung disease must be. most of the time i want to pick up a cig i think how bad it could lead to and it really turns me off to it.
You can buy nicotine gum or the patches from the store. You can also ask your doctor for something like welbutrin or chantix. All of these methods have you start the medication and pick a date, like 3 weeks from now, and you stop smoking on that date. The medications just help to curve the craving, you still have to be determined.
just be aware that you have to stop smoking and you will do anything to do so. throw away all the cigarettes you have in your house and avoid any passing the cigarettes- store. always pray and if you desire to smoke just eat candies or bubble gum. you may want to get busy so you can also avoid smoking like going to the gym or mountain hiking. good luck!
could try this book... its worked for many. He doesnt tell you what you already know or try to scare you out of it, cuz you-ll just want another.. he puts things in a different perspective.

Allen Carr-s easy way to quit smoking...
Try setting a date - not too far in the future, and sticking to it.
And use a nicotine replacement product. I used an inhalator.
3 years now.

Good luck

If you REALLY want to quit, for me the easiest way was to use the prescription drug called -Chantix-. It worked like a charm, when nothing else I-d tried did. Below is a link to read about it. Good luck.
If you really want to quit smoking, your family Doctor can prescribe some meds to help with that. There are other meds besides nicotine patch.
I would pray about it.. that is what I do with really tough problem! Because smoking to would be a hard one to quit.. I would pray to god and ask him for his help!
You got 3 choices.
Go cold turkey
Get nicotine patches
OR
go to a hypno therapist

Ok i-am 20 turning 21 i smoke camel light 99-s i smoke about a pack a day and i want to quit but i started because A. it-s a appetite suppressant i mean i-am a size 8 i don-t need to get any bigger and B. someone told me it kills calories now if i do quit whats the best why cold turkey, patches or gum? and will quitting make me gain weight if i quit?
Congrats!! First step is to want to quit (and thats the only way- no one can make you). It is HARD to quit... but everyone is different and it takes different things to work for different people. I quit smoking after 1almost 15 years with the patch. It did take me 3 tries at it- but i havent smoked in 7 years. Like they say- your success rate increases each time you try. The first time i thought -ive gone a month without one- i can have just one-... NO- doesnt work... you CANT have just one- you will go back to it. Second time i learned to not go out to bars and be around all the smokers for a few weeks when i was vulnerable. Third time worked- i didnt go out for a bit- and i didnt have -just one-.
As you know smoking is both a mental and physiacal thing- so the patch lets you deal with the emotional side of it (routines like lighting up when you get in car, or after you eat...etc) while its dealing with the physical. You get the nicotine at a slow pace- and actually- i was more relaxed on the patch than without it! lol It really helped me hanging up a calendar on my wall- and i would cross out each day i didnt smoke- shows you progress- and helps to know you are headed the right direction. There are tons of sites to help you quit and give you advice. Main thing i wanted to tell you... it CAN be done- and good for you for doing it!! :) Good luck... you can do it!!! By the way- yes you will probably gain some weight for a bit... who cares- you will live a lot longer- smell better- and twice the people now will find you attractive!!!
It dosn-t matter, we are all going to be dead soon.
I went cold turkey, but it-s not easy. First you have to get rid of all the reminders of smoking, like ash trays, lighters and of course the cigarettes. As for gaining weight, chew gum. When you quit there is a need to chew. So keep plenty of gum around. That will keep you from eating everything in sight. Also find something to do with your hands. If you knit, or crochet, that is a good way to keep your hands busy. Good luck! And yes, you should quit. :)
I-d say cold turkey...but I-m not a smoker. And appertly its better to risk dying then gain a few pounds.
Thanks for taking the initiative to quit. You can try cold turkey but if that doesn-t work, try the patch. My son quit smoking recently and did it with the patch. If you replace the smoking with routine exercise and proper diet, you won-t gain weight.
My son was in the hospital this weekend (he-s ok) and the doctor suggested a new medication for my husband to quit with. It starts with a Chantax. The doctor can give you more information. This stuff is supposed to be great!
Cold turkey is the only way to go. Quitting wont make you gain weight but you will have to watch what you eat so you dont.

My parents are going to quick smoking for their health. What are some good reasons for them to quit so i can send them to them?
Answers much appreciated.
:D
Because it makes them stink. It hardens the arteries. It is asking for cancer in many forms. It-s a disgusting habit that most people find repugnant. it shortens your life span. it seems like they probably allready know this stuff since everyone else on the planet does. If you smoke inside the cigerette smoke coats everything in the house and makes it dingy. YOu get nasty yellow stains on your hands, mustache whatever. Your clothes smell. YOur hands smell. Your teeth turn yellow. Your face gets wrinkled and ages quicker. ....the list goes on
health sounded good enough...but hey a slow, painful, sickly death of cancer always sounds fun too so why need a reason to quit? how about lets ask ourselves why did we start and was/ is it worth it?
Your health- secondhand smoking is even more dangerous. Also, they will save tons of money- tell them to put the $$ they usually spend on cigs into a jar- after a year they will be able to go on nice vacation!

Easiest way to quit smoking over a long period of time?? Please help? -

(This is my first question, and I don-t really know what I’m doing)
Please answer the question above best you can, or helpful tips would be great too
if you are smoking 5 sticks a day, reduce it to 4 sticks after a period of time then 3 and so on.....dont rush it cause you might feel anxious and you can have a mental breakdown. u can do it! and always bear in mind that smoking kills!
Hi, a few of my friends quit smoking after having hypnotherapy done, and they haven-t picked one up since. I suggest that!!!
We have a doctor that does a weekend radio show here. That topic came up recently. He said though there are things out there that people could try the best way is cold turkey...If it was me I would be chewing sugarless gum non stop...LOL..congratulations and trying answers it is fun...
You-ll notice that there aren-t a whole lot of answers to your question.

That-s because there is no easy way...but I-ll tell you what worked for me.

I met a guy who had a hole in his throat and used a voice box to talk. I suggest you visit a cancer ward. It does wonders for ya. I didn-t even crave a cigarette for a week. By that time, it was easy. I just didn-t want to go back to it.

I need tips on controlling the urge?
Get yourself prepared for the urge to smoke in advance. In most cases something triggers the craving (certain feelings, people, or places). You have to know what triggers the urge.

Let’s do a really quick exercise. Take a blank piece of paper and divide it into 2 columns. On the one side list your triggers (like “stuck in traffic”, “drinking morning coffee”, “arguing with colleague”...) and in the second column write down the alternative course of action.

There are many tips on controlling the urge and I put it in my website. You are welcome to visit it.
You can-t just want it, you need to have the proper motivation to quit.
Come back when you have that.
what a friend of mine dide when she wanted to quit for the 50th time..
she replaced cigarettes with lollipops, and that helped her alot!
hope this helps :)
Chew gum. I find that that seem to make me not want to smoke. I also have heard to try cinnamon products like big red and brush your teeth with cinnamon toothpaste. Hope this helps.

What helped you quit smoking? -

I only have a few cigarettes in the evenings now, but I would like to quit completely. What can I do to keep myself busy and not thinking about smoking? Any suggestions are appreciated :)
sometimes i go a whole day without cigarettes, then make it up the next day by smoking twice as many. i would think that having someone there with you would be the biggest help, preferably someone who is trying to quit as well. an occasional romp in the hay would probably help as well, lol
Pick a day that you want to quit. Smoke as much as you want until that day, but every time you light up, say out loud, -I will quit smoking on (April 1st/Friday/tomorrow)...-. It has to be out loud.

It sounds funny, but it worked for me.

Oh, and start exercising the day you quit too. It will prevent a weight gain, and knowing that you-ll go for a jog the next day will give you extra incentive to have a smoke at night.
It took getting pregnant to make me quit. That, and several cases of bronchitis that took forever to get rid of.

* LOL - A romp in the hay is what gets you pregnant, and then you will quit.
I quit when I got pregnant but started again once I had the baby, I just looked at it as not having a choice in the matter when quitting.
The few cigarettes that were the hardest for me to get rid of were the two or three in the morning with my coffee and the two or three at night after dinner. I bought alot of sunflower seeds and ate them, one at a time, when I was craving a cigarette. I also bought cinnamon sticks and chewed on them. Change what you do that makes you want a cigarette. Do you have to have one right after you finish eating? Instead of sitting after you eat, go for a walk. Do you have to have one before bed? Brush your teeth before bed instead. Just keep trying. Give yourself some credit for making it this far!!!!
Persistent recurrent pneumonia. That was over 20 years ago, and I still haven-t had a smoke.
What helped me quit??
I almost had a head on collision with a Semi......I had dropped my cigarette between my um, you know, and I was trying to retrieve it...at the last second I looked up..because I heard a horn..it was the Semi coming right at me!!

Right then and there I tossed the cigarettes, and never smoked again...It sure is strange that something that scared me to death,
changed my life in more than one way.
The death of me.
The only way to stop smoking is to just quit cold turkey. Otherwise you are still addicted to the nicotine. Even one cigarette will get you and keep you hooked. I quit almost two years ago and never want one anymore. The first two weeks are hard but after that it should get a lot easier. Go to a lung cancer website. That-s what I did. Good luck! I know its hard but you can do it.
I thought about what it would do to my kids is I died of Lung Cancer...I mean REALLY thought about it...Hospitals funerals and counselers to deal with my childrens grief and anger for causing my own early death....couldn-t continue to smoke after that....i haven-t touched a cig. for 8 years.
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
For me I just wanted to be healthy and really looked into what I was doing to my body. I also had a 1 and a half year old son who started questioning when I was doing. I dont want him to even remember I smoked ever, as I hope he doesn-t. For me the health and my son helped. It was hard and still is at times, but worth it. Perhaps you just need something to motivate you.
It was years ago, but I used a manta. Every time I was tempted I would just keep repeating in my head -The way to quit smoking is not to smoke.-

It gave me the will power to not stick a cigarette in my mouth and light it. Because I knew as soon as I did, I was a smoker again.
I had done research to find out that the smoking addiction is half physical and half mental. Carefully thought about what controls the physical ....the mind. So what I did was keep my mind running on different other things so I wasn-t thinking about smoking. If you don-t think to do something you don-t do it is my philosophy. I would read books, go walking, bowling, find a word puzzle books. To help with the physical addition I would chew cinomin gum or eat cinomin toast. There is something to do with the chemical makeup of cinomin that curbs the cravings for smokes. Good luck.
I quit cold turkey about two weeks ago after reading this book: -Allan Carr-s Easy Way To Stop Smoking-. The author explains how to effectively deal with the psychological side of the addiction, making the physical withdrawal much more manageable. I highly recommend it.
Enjoying the cigarettes less and less, I realized that most of my smoking was from addiction. I really only enjoyed about 3 or 4 a day, the rest was the habit and addiction. I knew if I continued the 3 or 4 that I trully enjoyed , that I could not kick the habit and the cost was so much, for just a habit that was killing me.................
when my fiance and i first started dating, he smoked and i didnt like it one bit.

i told him how much it was hurting him and never went around him when he smoked. i made him brush his teeth before he kissed me.

then, when he got stationed in south korea, even though i wasnt there, he realized how bad it was for his health and quit on his own.

maybe what you need is a little support.

good luck!

So im going to a camp and im trying to quit smoking for the duration of camp.....any tips???? -

im going to a christian camp for 12 days starting june 17 and i need to quit smoking.... i kno its bad for me but i cant help it.... i mean i can stop but all i think about when i do is that i need a smoke and i start getting all jumpy.... i need help real fast...i cant buy them atch thingies and i dont know of anything to help me.... i have cut down to like half a cig a day or not any but i just want one so bad sometimes ...... can yall please help me???? thanks a bunch...nothing negative please that just makes quitting harder..... thanx abunch again
I-m gonna guess that they don-t allow smoking at the camp, so if you don-t pack any, you should have a great head start...you could also consider getting nicotine gum or the patch...but it sounds like you-re almost there, so I would suggest doing things that will keep your mouth otherwise occupied...chewing gum and losenges are a good way to keep that habit of popping something into your mouth fulfilled without a cigarette. Sounds like you-re so close to being a non-smoker, the time at camp without cigarettes may seal the deal for you and get you to not reach for a ciggy again...but plan to be not smoking and don-t bring any with you...also determine when the urge is the greatest...after meals, with your morning coffee...whatever, and plan for that time of day so you are ready for the craving when it hits...do something healthy at that time...chew gum while you walk...take a bike ride...call a friend and complain about the craving...whatever it takes.
Great post! I totally understand how you feel. I-m also trying to lose weight and I found this great product which is working for me. You can check the website at
http://www.jamyestate.info , I had a free trial and paid less than 7.00$ shipping and handling. Best of luck!
You are smoking half a ciggie a day and you-re concerned? Why? Believe it or not, you can smoke up to 4 ciggies a day and not have any detrimental side effects at all! Ok, so you really need to quit, then stay away from caffien, (that means soft drinks and chocolate too), alcohol, and situations where you would normally smoke. Like, if you normally smoke right after doing the dishes, then as soon as you are done the dishes, go for a walk. The trick is to change your thoughts as soon as you think of a smoke. So if you suddenly start thinking of having a smoke, make yourself think about that really cute person in math class, or something like that. good luck.
ok well do it slowly
liek lets say u smoke 5 a day..
every week cut back on one or two.
its all about how badly u want to quit.
get the patches stuff and slowly stop smoking..
and no matteer how bad u want one
DONT!
hide them
have some one tak eur car for like 5 days so u dont go out and buy any.
in one or two weeks if u stop all together. u should be over them.
find other things to occupy u.
its that quitting time thats the hardest. but once ur over it. then ur fine
well dont take any smokes obvioulsy cuz you will get tempted. i think take a lot of gum and just chew your head off. also when you start feeling anxious stop and think of what you are doing. you can control your own body. try to take deep breaths and say your bigger than that and then pop a gum in your mouth. preferably trident you can take care of your teeth while your at it.
So im going to a camp and im trying to quit smoking for the duration of camp.....any tips???? -

I-m so young and stupid,I know it,this thing is completely ruining me!
You all realise it is really tough to quit it.Any ideas?
I have 7 cigs left. I will use my willpower to stop today when they are gone.
The only way to quit is to do it cold turkey. Within 3 days the nicotine is gone and only the physical addiction is left. Look at it as -changing your lifestyle- and not like -you-re giving something up-.
I started as a teen cuz it was cool. I-ve been smoking for over 25 years. I was able to quit for a few years, but I got back into it. If I could change one thing in my life, it would be the day that my best friend Britta offered me her cigarette and I took it. What do they say nowadays? Live above the influence! You are young yet. It-s way easier now than 25 years down the road. Buy some gum, drink lots of water, maybe join the yahoo quit smoking group for support.
You can do it. It-s really easier than it looks. Just stay focusd. That-s what I-m going to do. I-m going to remember how my voice has gotten deeper lately and how I really don-t want to die of throat cancer or any other type of cancer.
You can do it! And so can I!
Will power hunni that-s the way I did it,I smoked for 10 years,Just believe u can do and u will..Also put some water in a dirty ashtray then every time u crave a fag smell it puts u off straight away. LOL Good luck x
I smoked for probably 10 years. One day my aunt slapped a patch on my arm and threw my cigs out the window. The patch really helped me, but you have to want to quit for it to work. Please don-t wear it and then smoke. I have tried -socially- smoking since then and it makes me so sick that I have to go to bed so I don-t puke. Pretty sure I won-t try cigs again.
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
My mom use to smoke and what helped her quit was def. family. Get your friends and family to support you and influence you to stop smoking. Also there are many diffrent you could take to help you quit. Just belive you can and you will.
Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.
when i started using oil of oregano it made my desire for smoking completely go away. i-m not sure why, but somehow it did. and oil of oregano is really good for you.. you can buy it at a health food store. and mix a few drops with a drink or put a few drops under your tongue everyday (its spicy so don-t do too much) but it detoxes your body and cures many things..look it up on the internet.
throw away all your cigars. don-t buy any more!!! (and all your matches.)

How can i convince father to quit smoking even if he doesnt care about all those health tips i tell him? -

Hit him in the wallet. Tell him about all the things he will be able to afford once he quits spending the $150.00/month, or so, on smokes.

Look him in the eye, like my two boys did, and tell him you don-t want him to die on you.

Tell him you would like for him to smell better.

I think he does care about the health tips, he-s just so hooked on smoking, that he-s in denial about them.

-Nuff said?
Unfortunately you can not make your Father quit smoking. In fact the more you nag him about it, the more he probably wants a cigarette!
A lot of people think that if they keep lecturing people on what not to do then they will magically just stop, well I-m sorry but it doesn-t work like that.
The only time that your Father or any other smoker is going to stop is when THEY want to.
Say to your father not to smoke because of that i am also affecting. And also say him to meditate daily. This words spoken by him/her should be lovely.
You can-t love. Sorry but you can-t convince him. You can point out the smell! You can complain and bring the entire family in on it. I found the more it-s in your face the more you think about it.

If he thinks about it enough, he-ll do the right thing.
I can-t remember who said it, but one of my favorite quotes is about smoking. -Quitting-s easy - I-ve done it a thousand times-.

Quitting permenantly is another story. I am a smoker. I don-t want to quit, but wish I wanted to quit. This is what I am doing in the mean time...
I don-t have the ultimate desire to quit, but want to be healthier so I-ve done a few things to help a bit.

1. I excercise more. Some studies say that those who smoke and excercise regularly are healthier than those who don-t smoke or excercise at all.
2. I take breaks from smoking. I know smoking is effecting my health when I become really tired for 3 or more days for no reason, my sinuses/allergies are acting up more than usual or I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I then take about three days off from smoking and feel better.
3. I drink a lot of water. This curves appetite as well as cigarrette cravings.
4. Keep busy as much as possible. When the mind is off of cigarrettes, the desire is gone. I don-t know about you, but the no smoking adds on television and on billboards everywhere are the worst things for me. They just remind me of the fact that I smoke and trigger the need.

Not sure if this is anywhere near Dr. recommended, but it may help a bit until he is completely ready and determined to quit.
He won-t be able to quit until he is ready to. Just tell him you love him and that you want him to stick around for a long time. Be supportive. Let him quit on his own terms. You could request information from the American Lung Association. Emphysema and Cancer are not pretty. They both lead to terrible deaths. Imagine suffocating while your family watches. That-s basically what happens! Good Luck!
You know what? You can-t. Smoking is an awfully difficult addiction to give up, and trust me, even after you give it up you still want it. Health tips can sound like nagging. You may want to tell him that there are good things to help, but don-t nag, it-ll just make him feel guilty and that-ll make him want to smoke more.
you can-t. let it be. it is his decision to make, not yours.
The answer is LOVE. Try to pay attention to him and love him more nd more. Dont keep tellin him to quit, because addiction cant be forgotten that way.

Does anyone know anything about almanacs and the way the moon and stuff works for like quitting smoking ? -

I want to stop smoking and I heard that you can quit at a certain time of the moon phase but I don-t know what phase that is.Does anyone know ? Thanks.
I am a smoker and I have taken numerous astronomy classes. The moon has absolutely nothing to do with helping you quit. The only thing that does is willpower.
supposedly you dont want to try if the moon is full. but as a smoker i can tell you it dont matter it will be hard regardless, its not so much the addiction as the habit of what to do with your hands. Rumor is 21days is all it takes to quit any habit if replaced with a better one like flossing. dunno but with the cost of smokes going up anything is worth a try.
sorry Raven, never heard of that one..sounds -lunny- to me..Hey,won-t hurt to try it - cheaper than those no smoking thingys on the market..Have trirf them all - still smoking, grrrr

My heart rate is down since I quit smoking...too far down!? -

heart rate is in the 40-s since I quit. I have hypothyroidism which according to recent tests is in the normal range. Doctor increased dose slightly anyway but no help. Does make me feel hot all the time though. I am starting to have swelling in my lower legs, and it hurts to breathe deeply. I am getting winded easier than I was when I was smoking!....does anyone have any ideas about any of this? Even my doctor is confused!
I had 42 four years ago because a wrong drug against hypertension. Of course I - been in panic for two months until I-ve discovered what is the cause. In the meantime I made 100 breaths on day to bring oxygen to brain and heart and this helped me a lot
See another doctor for a second opinion. Be sure the doctor you see knows all about your health problems. Your doctor should be consulting with another doctor if he/she is confused.
Good Luck
No smoking it is actually danger for your heart and you.

Has anyone taking Chantix to help them quit smoking? And how was your experience while taking it.? -

I read some scary stuff on line about this drug Know I-m not sure if I want to take it.So I figured I would ask to see what other peoples experience was while taking this I tried Zyban before and had bad side effects with it got the gitters really bad while on it.
i,ll date my self, i smoked for 49 years . started chantix 5 mo. ago . have smoked 3 since i-ve been on chantix . i don-t get around a lot of people that smoke ,so it is easier for me . stopping chantix this mo. always take them after eating some thing . don-t wash them down with soda . the re son i quit is i saw a xray of my lungs .--------good luck .have had no bad side effects
Both my parents took Chantix and both have had different experiences.
My mom took it, and felt agitated, naseous, and wasn-t able to quit.
My father took it and felt happy, healthy, and hasn-t had one in almost a year.

It all depends on the person I guess. Everyone reacts differently, especially if you are currently taking other types of medication regularily.
A friend of mine tired it and stopped after a couple days. He ended up quitting cold turkey. I have tried to quit and I couldn-t do it that way. I tried the nicotine patches which I actually liked a lot, but I was living with roommates that smoked and it was like a bonding experience to go out on the balcony and talk and smoke so I blew it.

I NEED HELP TO ******* QUIT PLZ HELP ME.
hold the cig like you normally do just dont light it once you light it its over---I can hold a smoke for hours and I am fine you can even put it in your mouth just dont light it and hard candy or gum is good to help too GOOD LUCK
I-m trying to as well. The problem is I still enjoy it. Tried gum and candy and now I-m just full of sugar.
There are nicotine-containing chewing gums available with drug-stores that pacify the urge to go for a smoke. You can try these .... I have heard people claim a drop by 80% in their frequency of smoking.
However, ultimately, you JUST HAVE TO LEAVE once you decide upon it .... ONCE AND FOR ALL!! There is no middle path ..... you either quit or you smoke - no matter if it-s 1 cigarette(or whatever) or 100! Once you quit, ur breathing system can be expected to return to normal in 2yrs time. So leave this disaster in making, before it harms each n every concievable body part of urs.
All the best, my friend .... U CAN DO IT!!!
mind over body.
itz all in your mind.
simple cheap - best way
PATIANCE
DON-T KNOW IF THIS WORKS BUT I READ THAT WHEN YOU GET A CRAVING FOR A CIGARETTE, PUT SALT ON THE TIP OF YOUR TONGUE.
get your mind of smoke and do something useful
get some nicotine gum it is just a little more expensive and doesn-t coat lungs with tar. grow some balls and just f***ing quit! it is hard I know! you can do it if you try. after a few weeks it gets easier. alcohol makes you stupid and you will be weak and smoke. so don-t for a while. good luck!
niccorette
My Mom uses the patch. Shes smoke frr for like 10 weeks.
Get your doc to prescribe Zyban or Prozac.
Get a better avatar. The one you have demonstrates a negative outlook on life. In order to do something positive like quitting smoking, you will need to have a positive attitude. Then get some Nicoderm or something similar. I don-t have any magic answers. I quit 25 years ago because I was moving into a new house and didn-t want the smell of cigs in it. I have never smoked since.
Finish the pack you have now and then.......don-t buy another one.
you can chew on bubble gum to contol the cravings and use some of them patches that u put on your arm i think that will work
that depends on you, try to keep any chocolates on instead of cigarate on your packets, take ,meditation leave that habit slightly reducted 10,8,6,4,2,1 per day,
get involved in a near-fatal car crash.

being hospitalized for several months with an air tube up your throat will surely get you off the habit.

I quit smoking yesterday and I feel like crap? Help? -

I-m at work and having major anxiety. I dont know what to do. I dont feel like I need to smoke but I want this anxiety to end. Any suggestions?
You are doing great. You have already gone thru the hard part, thats deciding to quit.

What you are feeling will go away. Try taking deep breaths anytime you feel anxiety. They say candy is good, but the sugar will add to anxiety. Try chewing sugar free gum, and try swooshing with mouth wash thru out the day. The feeling of a clean mouth will feel invigorating and it will remind you of having sweet smelling breath instead of nasty smokers breath.

Please stick with it. I admire you. After the third day, things will get better. Keep in mind what it will do to you if you continue to smoke.

Good luck sweetie!!

A good gum... Trident with Xylitol ...
watermelon twist ... Also cleans n protects teeth..
visualization. picture yourself feeling peaceful, lighter, cleaner, happier, successful in your favorite place.

do it as frequently as you need to.

cut down the caffeine.

think about how wonderful it-s going to be when you don-t have to worry about when you-re going to have your next smoke.

think of all the money you-ll save. use it to buy yourself something frivolous.

good luck. i admire you.
Don-t give up! I have quit smoking for 2 weeks now, I know it-s not that long but for someone wh had smoked for 20 years it-s not bloody bad! I had the same feelings as you in my first week, I felt like sh.i.te, felt depressed and just shouted at everyone! I would get a piece of paper and pen and just doodle to take my mind off the craving. The craving seems to come in waves. This week I feel SO much better, I can breathe, smell and taste better and the craving is no way near as bad as last week.....it can only get better. Good luck and remember, it gets better week -by -week x
When I quit, I-d take a ten minute break to walk around. It helped calm me down and take my mind off it. Good Luck! It-s not easy but it can be done!
do a few jumping jacks and push ups, then take a few deep breaths. You will feel better and more relaxed.
Get up from your desk and walk away from the situation. Take a walk around the building if you can. What the problem is that when you were smoking you were taking a break from work which helped with stress and that is what anxiety is, a form of stress. Start walking at night or in the morning before or after work, also find ways to relax yourself when at work if it is taking a few minutes to meditate or stand up and walk away and go to the bathroom, just to get away. Also nicotine withdrawl is horrible so drink water and lots of it.
Hang in there. This feelling will pass.

Don-t smoke if you do it will only make the feeling linger on longer.

This is just your bodies way of craving a smoke. Don-t give in.

If you can get past this part right here and for the next few weeks you will be free of this addiction. The First week is the worst and the second can be bad. But You will feel better than ever if you break this
Why did you start smoking anyway?
Drink citrus, and try to keep busy. This will pass in a couple of days,BE STRONG
breathe into a paper bag or have a smoke

I quit smoking and im getting super grumpy and irritable? -

it only been 3 days

how can i feel better without smoking?
Withdrawal symptoms many suffer from include restlessness, fatigue, dizziness, irritability and heavy perspiration. Some people may also experience diarrhea, constipation and headaches. It’s important to remember that much of what you may be feeling is the nicotine withdrawal talking. The withdrawal symptoms will pass and it won’t be so hard to avoid smoking. It takes most people between 2 to 4 months before they stop thinking that they need a cigarette on a daily basis.
Hang in there, Bubba! Just take it one day at a time! It worked for me - it can work for you! Nobody promised it would be easy. If you-ve got the guts to stick with it - the benefits far outweigh the discomfort. Life is not always the way it-s supposed to be. It-s just the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.
You have to let your body build up those anti stress chemicals which the smoking has dulled, keep up with the irritable episodes for a while and they will eventually go away, if you start smoking then you will just screw you body right back up again
Do some reading...
e-cigarette-forum.com

no sales, no gimmicks, just an information forum for people trying to get off tobacco cigarettes
do something that involes a lot of consentration then if will get your mind off the smokes and you will be having fun to like a video game or something
Hang in there. Just good old withdrawal symptoms.

I have to quit smoking, what would be better?????????? -

patches or those quit smoking pills? And are the generic patches as good as the name brand?
I recommend cutting down gradually until your quit date. I did this. I cut down to half a pack. I did this for three months. I smoked by the puff, not by the cigarette. I took only the amount of nicotine that was necessary to satisfy my urge to smoke and put the rest of the cigarette out.

After doing this for three months I quit cold turkey.
Hi cyncity..

first of all the good news.. congratulations on you decision to quit. that-s huge!!!.. well the bad news, or at least the other side is this.. there is no -one size fits all- way to quit.. there are pros, and cons to any method..after all if there was one that worked all the time im sure there would only be that product on the market.. there is no wrong way to quit!!! good luck on your decision

having said all that.. i smoked for over 40 years, and tried most methods, at one time or another.. i have quit for over 5 years now using the nicotine anonymous program.. i found the support of other quitters, as well as those who had already quit was very helpful.. meetings are available in many cities, as well as voice meetings online you are welcome at any of them..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Gd on ya for wanting to quit!!! = ] ive recently quit smoking ,im on my 8th week and im telling ya i feel so good since ive quit (best thing i could have done) you wont feel that way at first but as each week goes by without smoking it gets so much easyer = ]. ive been useing the patches along with the nicorette gum! so id say go with the patches or patches and gum theyve really helped me = ]
I use the Commit lozenges. They come in 2 mg or 4 mg strength. I think they are easier than the patch or gum because:

A - The patch burns my skin

B - The gum tastes terrible, and is so difficult to chew.

The lozenges can be broken up for lower dosages, and all you do is put it in the corner of your mouth and let it dissolve over a couple of hours. No one even knows it is there! And while you can-t eat with it in your mouth, you can still drink.

But then again, I suppose it all depends on your cigarette habits. Are you after just the nicotine, or is it the habit, or both? For me, it is both, and with the lozenge, I get the nicotine, and I still have the -ritual- of carrying around the lozenge tube, and popping it open when I need one (almost like a pack of cigarettes).

I-ve also heard that a combination of techniques works. My doctor recently prescribed Zyban for me, to use in conjunction with the lozenges. That should do the trick. Good luck!

Get the book The Easy Way to Quit Smoking, by Allen Carr.
You can get it at any bookstore and I believe you can find a free PDF version online.Trust me, it helped me and 4 of my other friends quit with ease, and without a hit to your wallet. When I would have some rough moments I would watch videos on YouTube, anti-smoking ads they-ll instantly remind you why this is the best thing for you! Good luck you can do it!
get the nicoderm cq patches, they work really good and have been helping me alot. the gum is really annoying because you have to chew like 12 pieces a day and its really cinnamony,
nicorette gum or you can try the patches. i-m going to quiet to. i think i-ll try the patches.
Nicorette. Orange Flavor.

Whats the best way to quit smoking.? -

I was smoking for 20 yrs and now I-m taking the patch called Nicocure. It-s some herbal patch. Anyways... I-ve managed to cut down to 6 cigeretttes.but I just cant kick the habit totally. Are there some good methods that might work and what worked for you?
I wish I knew the answer to this Audrey but I would like to know more about this patch, Nicocure. How did you find out about it and where can it be purchased??
I tried Nicocure from
http://sexhealthdiet.com
and I don-t think it stopped my smoking but it did help in the cravings. It was helpful in the whole plan. It is just plain hard but every little thing helps. It was not that easy to start so it is not going to be easy to quit smoking.

Places where you don-t smoke, stay there longer.
Places where you do smoke try to avoid them as much as possible.
I quit this way, and make myself cut down a little at a time till I was smoking 3 cigarettes a day, then I quit all together.
good luck! there are some other patches available. excersise helps and keeping busy try not to stand with people who are smoking it will just make the urge bigger.
ive once asked for quiting smoke with hypnotism, it seems that it works for real
week 1: cut down your habit to half (you may tremble sometimes, even salivate when you see one, fever is normal, dizziness and others, but if youre really decided, youll make it through,)
week 2: cut it down to another half
week 3: den another
week 4: den totally cut it all. its your determination and dedication that wuold remove it, believe me.
It is not diffucult. I have done it so many times. Try to increase the gap of timing bet. two cigarettes, within one month you will overcome smoking. This is my advice which I cannot follow. Ha Ha ha.....
well look at the facts first: smoking is addictive, more than 400,000 people died each year in the us, smoking doesnt just hurt you but it hurts others by secondhand smoke, secondhand smoke increase the chances of earing problems (in child), if you do quit you can taste food and drinks a lot better and more facts at

JUST LOVE A BOY WHO KISS U ALLTHE TIME AND NEVER THINK ABOUT U SMOKING........MAY BE THIS BOY IS ME...CAN I TREAT U?
After smoking for 22 yrs. ... I just -cold turkeyed- one day! Perhaps my addiction was harder to quit than a -heavy- smoker:
I smoked 5 ciggs. a day(Can-t hurt much...right??) Sorry if that-s not much help!!
I had been a heavy smoker and drinker for past 30 years but I managed to kick the habits in just one go.

I tried withdrawal method, minimising, etc. Nothing works.

ONLY WILLPOWER WORKS.

Have will, you can stop.
Dear Audrey,

I am a chain smoker too. Used to smoke about 12 cigrattes /day, now slowly reduced to 6. See when ever you feel like smoking the best remedy is to start eating chewing gum. I have noticed the continous movement of our mouth and repeated intake of saliva throgh eating chewing gums have reduced the liking towards smoke.

Try it it will work. I can be contacted at: sund1234@yahoo.com

I just quit smoking, and I am having some strange responses..? -

I just quit smoking about 3 days ago (Saturday night) and I am having the normal cravings and figidiness, but as of last night I had the most rotten sleep of my life! And I was exhausted when I went to bed! I woke up numerous times, talking to myself, and looking at the clock. Also, I want to eat cheese a lot! Lots and lots of melted cheese! This may be the strangest part of all... my breasts are EXTREMELY sensitive (sore)! Now, I read online that when you quit, the nerve endings in your body begin to grow again and you may get strange sensations, and food tastes better, but it is almost like being pregnant! I am at my 3rd day right now, can someone tell me when it will get better? I heard your 3rd day is the worst.. so hopefully it is all downhill from here!
I quit smoking 5 weeks ago and sweetheart, it-s not an easy thing to do. I have been a full fledged smoker for almost 11 years. Meaning at least 1-2 packs a day. After watching my dad pass away from lung cancer in February (among many other heartbreaking diseases), I vowed to my mother that I would try my hardest to quit. And I did. The food cravings are normal. Your body is going through a hard time adjusting and may think it needs things it doesn-t. That is why a lot of people tend to gain weight when they quit smoking. They begin to crave other things, or they use food as a replacement for the hand to mouth habit. Your body is stressed and the first week or two are not gonna be too easy. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you tell yourself that you are proud of yourself and that you really do want to quit. Try not to think about smoking or be around it much for the first two weeks, The smell will still be enticing to you right now. Wait a couple weeks and people will begin to smell like ash trays. That-s when it gets easier. Good luck and stay strong.
No problem and I wish you the best of luck.

Congratulations on quitting!

And yes, the third day of -detox- is the worst. Drink lots of water and take vitamins: That should help you recover some from the damage.

Another thing you might want to drink lots of is tea: Green, chamomile, and ginger especially. The green tea is recommended for people trying to get unwanted substances out of their bodies. Chamomile is soothing- which I daresay you very much want. And ginger is good for soothing some pains- That-s what I use for tummy troubles, but it seems to help with headaches too.

Good luck!
I quit smoking about 5 years. I used to smoke 10 years.
I suggest you must have one or several new good addict Instead of smoking (for example eating fruits, beans such as pistachio, chew chewing gum, do exercise and etc)
During 6 mounts, when I involved with each emotion status, I wanted to smoke, after that, these situations were finished.
After about a week the things you are experiencing will go away. Its all normal. Try buying some dum dums and sucking on those. Its not just a physical addiction but a mental one too.
Your body needs the comfort of you sucking on something like you would a ciggarette and dum dums fit the bill. And they are much cheaper than cigarettes. Some people also like cheweing on a empty Bic pen tube. The white ones. It tricks their mind into thinking there is a cigarette in their hand, and eases the cravings. Good Luck and Congratulations
I am not sure either but PLEASE stick with it...... you are getting healthy day by day and you are saving yourself lots of money each time you don-t light up.... try taking deep breathes to help with the cravings.... as it is summer, trying chewing ice when a craving starts to get away from you ...... they are calorie free and help relieve frustrations.
Congratulations on achieving Day three....
i quit Dec 7 after 15 yrs- it took 2 weeks for cravings to leave - i bought a big bag of small carrots to eat all day until the cravings went away. I never used the patch, gum, or any thing else.
im not sure but good 4 u if u quit smoking

QUITTING SMOKING - carbon monoxide?
It says that after 8 hours, the carbon monoxide level returns to normal and the bloods ability to carry oxygen returns to normal.

What will the plus effects of this and what are the down effects of carbon monoxide by smoking?

If you have quit and can tell me difference you may have have felt that would be great.
I quit 3 months ago and feel great! I am now working out and breathing so much better! Cigarettes have so many other chemicals besides carbon monoxide... but after 2 or 3 days you should feel awesome. I was a 18 year smoker and after the first week it got easier and easier. Now it-s hard to remember that I actually did smoke. Weird but true.
I quit smoking a month ago. I felt really good. it was stressfull at first and I felt like I was always craving a cigarette. I finally gave in and started just taking a drag every so often. Then I bought my first pack. I feel horribly physically. I feel like my body is sluggish and I wish I had never started again. The actual withdrawls I went through were not as bad as the constant need for a ciggarette now. I quit about three hours before I went to bed and woke up and didnt have a cigarette (or a drag) for over two weeks. Please take my advice... don-t give in.... I hope I see you on the road to quiting....
i quit smoking 3 months ago! and cheatted a few days ago! now i do see what i missed!
I have a larger wind spand! like i don-t get out of breath walking!
my food started to taste better! plain potato chips never thought they were so good! that don-t happen till the 2nd week or 3rd week but wow it tasted good!
after i cheated that one night i smoked a lot but my chest still hurts and the smell of it is now really disgusting!
wow!
but don-t quit just because of crbon monoxide you get more from car fuems!
quit because you want to!
k
and don-t let anyone tell you your bad for smoking! sometimes i wonder why i quit and it was because of this
1. cost to much and want more toys! that are smoked away!
2. not having a stick control my life! excample i forgot to pick up smokes on the way home! i have 1 left now i have to get back in my car waste my gas to get a pack of smokes!
i would do this! all the time!
now when i get home for work i only have to go get milk and that-s not ever day or even ever 3 days!
lol
anyway
best of luck to you if you plan to quit!
just remember habits are hard to break and your subconsious feels better with the -Norm- but you can do it! and it can be easy!
Carbon monoxide replaces the oxygen in your blood (it bonds with the hemoglobin, which cannot tell the difference) and deprives your brain of oxygen.

In answer to your question, I quit after smoking sixteen years, (30 years ago) and can-t bear to even smell cigarette smoke now.
My boyfriend quit a few weeks ago and he is so pleased that he can last much longer in bed. He feels the difference. So I guess more stamina is a plus point.
been clean for 4 days and got the flu last night and went to the ER and when they did that oxygen saturation test it would norm be at about 94 to 95% last night it was at 99% i was like cool. i feel more angry i noticed i don-t feel drained or so out of breath and my heart rate has gone down too.

but there was a cool thing i saw on csi the other nite now before u laugh. just listen a kid had tried to kill his parents by carbon monoxide poisoning. he killed his mom because she smoked and since her blood already had so much carbon monoxide in her blood it didn-t take as long but his dad who had just quit smoking was able to survive because his blood was back to norm
In addition to Carbon Monoxide there are so many chemicals, tar, and I heard rat poison in cigarrets...it-s just plain gross...and deadly...
Have you quit smoking? -
