Will the medicine quot;Chantixquot; actually help u quit smoking? -

it depends on the person.
Yes, my sister and my brother-in-law both used it to stop. Both were long-time smokers as well.
I hope to God it does. I am on day 9 of Chantix. I find myself getting busy and not thinking about getting a cig (a great thing!)But I eventually do smoke one when I think, -Oh, I haven-t had a cig for awhile- (a bad thing!)

It is the behavioral habits that are stopping me right now. One more week on Chantix to make sure it is good in my system and I will stop buying them. Like all other long time smokers the physical cravings are what really stop you from quiting. They are just overwhelming. But the Chantix does take away that physical feeling of wanting to put your head through a wall when you can-t have a cig.

Side effects are some sickness in the stomach but nothing too bad. My Doc has high hopes. He said he has seen 99% of his patients quit with Chantix. Even some hard core old guy smokers that he thought would never make it but they did. Try it!

I will update in like 2 weeks. Say a prayer! If I could go one full day without that would be a miracle.
My step mother has benn taking it for 6 weeks and she hasn-t smoked since she started. We-ll she how she does when she goes off.

I have quit smoking, quit gambling ,why cant I quit overeating ? -

Well smoking and gambling can be avoided. You can choose to stay away from those who smoke, sit in the non-smoking sections at restaurants, etc. You can also stay out of casinos.

However, eating is something different. You can-t avoid food, you have to eat! It-s just hard to slow down once you-ve started, as well as choosing fruit over cake. It-s also difficult to choose good foods since so many are chemically enhanced in labs and whatnot today. Knowing what-s in your food helps a lot.

I also have a problem with overeating. I-m currently -suffering- through a fruit, veggie, and meat only diet. It is very difficult to do, but you just have to think of the bigger picture, the light at the end of the tunnel. Just imagine how you want to look, and how eating better can help you achieve that look as well as become healthier and more comfortable.

Because you quit smoking.
Gurl that is one of our number one sins it is hard to not over eat you just have to tell yourself when to stop. Our if you have alot of different foods to choose from just get only a spoon full of it all and it will get you full but not stuffed.
i did the same. it-s almost like i replaced my addiction with cigarettes with food. i gained about ten pounds. after a while like that, i changed my eating habit.
Often overeating is due to emotinal eating. Basically eating makes us feel better. So it is important to identify when you out of comfort of hunger. For more info check out emotional eating article at
http://www.alfitness.com.au

Because you have to eat to live. Therefore it-s necessary to deal with food everyday unlike gambling or smoking which you can avoid completely.

Hi!
I use to smoke cigarettes for over 15 years, and i tried smoke away, and going cold turkey and it didn-t work, So one day I gave GOD a call and ask him to take the desire of cigarettes away from me, I ask him to let the taste make me sick to my stomach. Two weeks later i smoked a cigarette and it make me sick to my stomach and also I was coughing like crazy. After that day i have never smoked a cigarette again and it-s been 6 years . So go to your Heavenly Father and he will do it for you .
throw your cigarettes and lighters in the trash, and dont buy anymore.

Anyone who has successfully quit smoking, please share your strategy :)? -

I have been a smoker for 2 years...tried the gum, the patch, and cold turkey...no avail. Please help me with awesome stories :P
I quit smoking after 24 years. Cold turkey. OF all the times I tried to quit...I deep down didn-t really want to. This time I did. First I set a target date to quit...6 months on my birthday. That was going to be my gift to me. So I enjoyed it for 6 more months. When it came time I was able to lay them down. Third day was the worst for cravings. I had to change habits too. Long story on that...but I have been smoke free now for a little over 6 months and going on a cruise for 7 days this saturday with the money I have saved. Feels great!! Good luck to you. You can do it if you REALLY want to, but you have to REALLY want to quit.
you should check this site out..

these people really care. If you sign up
they pretty much brainwash you into wanting
to quit. what do you have to lose if you tried everything else?
I quit 15 months ago. Hypnosis. I firmly believed it was about the HABIT more than the nicotine. It was my second attempt. I gained 10 pounds (since lost them).
I cannot imagine smoking now. I don-t mind the smell, or a dirty ashtray, none of that. I just don-t think I-ll ever smoke again.
This is where I went. I know you wont go there, but its general info on hypnosis, prices, etc.

Tim-s right, you have to really want it. I was prepared to do ANYTHING to quit. Oh, I smoked for about 25 years.
I smoked for 33 years. Attended a group hypnosis session, bought and used a reinforcement relaxation tape. Have not smoked for 17 years.

Nicotrol inhaler! They require a prescription, and insurance typically won-t cover them, but i highly recommend it all the same. They don-t have any side effects like some medications do. They also help with the -oral fixation-, or, need to feel like your smoking. They aren-t as good as cigarettes, but they are pretty damn close. The first day of using them, I kicked my pack a day habit. Also, after about 2 weeks, the need to use them also diminished.

I-ve tried cold turkey and tried smoking less and less to eventually none at all... but cannot kick the habit. Cannot afford any expensive patches and meds. Is there any other way?
Well when i quit awhile back, i had gotten sick.
My throat felt awful and when i smoked it burned it, also smoking made me feel nauseous.
I-m not saying go catch a cold, but i-m telling you how i easily stopped.
i-m personally not a smoker but my boyfriend of two years is. he,s finding it very hard to quit and thinks the best way is too cut down. i say just go cold turkey

I first quit - cold turk - for 3 months. Had an emotional situation with boss, and started again. I then decided, -Next time it will be for good-. It was nearly a year of constant intervals of programming my mind. It happend during a -smoke-enders- annual campaign in NYC.Feb.1981. No problems.

By yourself, it is very difficult and almost impossible. You need the support of your family, friends and most of all, God. Also, seek advice from those who had overcome the habit. Pray incessantly and ask God to guide and strengthen you to fight this habit.

You don-t need to buy any patches, all you have to do is be strong enough. If one day you wake up and decide you want to quit smoking, then that-s the first step. If you want to do it, make yourself believe that you can, and you will. Just don-t let yourself do it anymore, that-s all there is to it.

I used to smoke a lot, tried to quit about 10 times at list but I never could. Than I started eating candy instead of smoking and it helped me. lollipops chewing gum just about any kind of candy. Try it quiting it with the candy is the best kind of quiting I-ve ever done lol

let me begin by saying that I don-t smoke but come form a long line of them in my family and friends. One of my friends tried this product. she says what really made her want to try it is the money back guarantee. she didn-t quit. she tried for months to get her money back and eventually just gave up. from what i understand about quitting is that you must really, really want to quit or nothing will work. I hope you can find something to help you. Good luck.
no as far as iam concerned smoke away dosent do itt. but one thing does hons what?? throw aaway all the junke that out on the market they just want your money--- its al in your head just kep walking away from it,, all of the junke thats on the market is just a gimmick--my uncle died recently of lung cancer in a hospital he died in my arms from years of smoking three packs a day he knew i smoke back then and just before he died he loked at me and says-- the only way your goona quitt is up here he pointed at his head-- and says with all of that junke they sel on the market-- its all up here and his lights were out-- from there on inn that was it for me--
ANYTHING will work if you are really committed. NOTHING will work if you are not.
no ! sorry you should ask your doctor
They all work..at makeing your wallet lighter...the only way to stop is to just do it..either you want to or you don-t.........
won-t work unless you want it to...i quit cold turkey almost 6 years ago ..have not had one since ... i am 52 and i was a chain smoker..2-3 packs a day..i simply decided i was giving them up and i did ...i chewed on straws ...chewed gum...had hard candy..it was not as hard as i thought it would be..i wish i had done it earlier in my life but at least i did it ..just make up your mind you are going to quit and then just DO IT...good luck and bless you..you can e-mail me if you need moral support

How to quit smoking? Ive already tried, but when Im drank I cant resist? -

I know that the nicotine is harmful and so on
Very difficult to give up particularly when you-re out socialising / drinking. Isn-t it easier now that you can-t smoke inside pubs though? What about trying not to drink for a couple of weeks to break the habit?

Good luck! xx
Well, before I can answer this question, I need to know what you have already tried and how long the system worked for you.

Some tips:

1) never go cold turkey. this rarely works and is definitely not going to get great results in the long run.

2) the best way is to slowly reduce the amount of your addiction, in this case, nicotine, to the lowest amount possible (nicotine patches) or none at all, but this will take time and will get great results if you can keep your will power up!

3) if you cant get your mind around any of the above, maybe thinking about a person who lost their life to cancer from the carcinogens in cigarettes and tobacco, will keep you strong willing yourself away from turning out like that family member, friend or what not.
I use to smoke and tried to quit but failed I was hospitalized and wasn-t able to smoke last month so that made it easy but I cheated when I got out, So far it has been 7 days without smoking, you must have the will power. For me when I want to smoke I think of my mom who was a smoker and has COPD and is on oxygen. I think wow one day I will have my own set of Oxygen tanks if I don-t stop and it has helped. When you drink you tend to have less willpower so has the first person said Don-t drink
Hey myke,

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

well, then don-t drink for the next three months, and that should help. also, get your doctor to prescribe Zyban- it will help for the psychological cravings, and then also buy the nicotine patch because that will help with the physical withdrawal symptoms. in a month or so, you probably wont need either anymore.
keep a note of the evil effects of smoking in your pocket. see it every time before you smoke. that will truly help you to quit smoking very soon. may be in three days you will completely forget about it.
hi.
u r absolutely right.knowing this how did u fall in smoking.try to stop this.drinking is also harmful for ur heart.so try to stop drinking.there is no harm if u take drinks once or twice a month.but dont drink too much.try to stop all these.
best wishes.

Best of Luck, dear.
I-m in Canada, all of our cartons have pictures of cancerous lungs, gingivitis teeth, children (smoking kills them), a pregnant lady (smoking hurts babies), a nasty heart (smoking is a heartbreaker) or a bent cigarette (smoking causes impotence). It-s not really an effective deterent.

The problem with all the above warnings on cartons is that they focus on the future, and most people are focused on the present. So puting warnings on cigarette packages that are more relevant to the present might be more effective. Like saying, -Smoking a pack a day costs you 300$...in one year that would be 3600$-, or -by the time you have finished this pack, you will have inhaled x amount of cyanide, x amount of tar, x amount of formaldehyde, etc.-

A lot of the public campaigns for smoking seem to be ineffective. The most effective policies I-ve seen were to raise the prices of cigarettes... Making them illegal also helps - my province is making smoking in public illegal on new years (that-s a decent deterrent. If I can-t smoke at work or while I-m out, then I-ll quit).

The most effective television advert I saw to deter smoking was one that showed this young, pretty girl smoking and then you could see her skin turn grey and her teeth turn yellow - that was pretty effective.

For me, it-s the cost of smoking that is a deterrent. You become numbed to all the pictures of black lungs, plaque-covered hearts and yellow teeth.

Ooh. A great deterrent/-party trick- is to have smokers fill up their mouth with cigarette smoke (like puff, but don-t inhale it) now, blow all that smoke into a kleenex...the kleenex will be this disgusting yellow brown where you blow. Now if you do this again, but inhale all the smoke, then exhale into a kleenex, you-ll notice that it-s not this dark yellow brown, but it-s lighter. You-ll see how much crap goes into your lungs with every puff...it-s kind of nasty. (Find some willing smokers to test this out for you, you-ll understand how gross smoking really is)

I remember reading something from this one makeup artist who could tell which of his runway models smoked based on the fact their skin had acquired a greyish tinge.

(I smoke now, but money is the biggest problem for me. I-m a student, I have rent, groceries and a phone. I-m out of money so I can-t smoke for the rest of the month...I guess that-s a decent deterrent.)
I have been smoking since I was 13, I am 21 now. Nothing has made me stop.

I HATE THOSE -The Truth- commercials they actually DEMOTOVATE me and make me feel helpless.

The ONLY thing that has effected me are blunt conversations with people I KNOW CARE ABOUT ME.

Therefore, for your campaign I would suggest not using fire and brimstone tactics, that I don-t believe do anything but isolate smokers (the old smoke-screen cliché). And INSTEAD go for frank, honest, loving appeals...encourage others to debate smoking with smokers and end with, -I don-t want you to do it, not for yourself BUT FOR ME- (most smokers don-t care, much, about the self-harm, but the harm they cause others).

GOOD LUCK!
its bad for the skin/complextion ............

- A study by dermatologists, published in The Lancet, shows that smoking activates the genes responsible for a skin enzyme that breaks down collagen in the skin.

Collagen is the main structural protein of the skin and keeps it elasticated.

It-s often possible to detect whether or not a person is a smoker simply by looking at his or her face

Professor Antony Young, of Guys, Kings and St Thomas- School of Medicine, in London

When this starts to disintegrate, skin begins to sag and wrinkle.

Professor Antony Young and his colleagues from Guys, Kings and St Thomas- School of Medicine, in London, measured concentrations of the gene MMP-1, which breaks down collagen. -

im not sure whether you are familair with -the body-s- exhibit but they had lugs of smokers and let me tell you it doesn-t look pretty.

and i also think its not the -don-t do it- that makes ppl quit, but realizing the reasons for quiting
I-ve been a smoker since I was 16. The only reasons that have made me stop (I-ve stopped several times) are:

1. Harm to the environment---butts take more than 50 years to break down and even then, there are traces of chemicals
2. Money---if I-d saved all the money I used for cigarettes I probably won-t have any money problems
3. Second-hand smoke hurting kids around me

You can get idea about New Year Resolution which are easily available through many sources like Internet, or some forward mails. It is the right time to take feasible New year Resolutions.

Some people make impossible and impractical resolutions. And after that, it will be difficult to follow such resolution and they will give it up.

How to quit smoking
Hi a lot of will power.
Good Luck
Some feel that the only way to do it is cold turkey, but there are alternatives to that. There are medications that can help, but the best thing is to treat it like what it is, a bad habit with addictive side effects. What I did was first leave my cigarettes in a room that I wasn-t in. I didn-t restrict my smoking except that I had to get up and go somewhere else to get one. Next, I restricted my smoking to one room, preferably one without any interesting things to do, like the bathroom or out on the porch. Then, I began to restrict the intervals, like at least a half hour between cigs, then an hour, etc. At the beginning of the process, I picked a date when I would smoke my last cigarette, 30 days from when I started. This gives you a goal and time to break the habit which is so often unconscious. You want to smoke because you are accustomed to smoking while driving, playing on the computer, etc. If you don-t break the stimulus, you will be feeling the need to smoke constantly because you always smoked then.

It worked pretty well. But you have to be careful not to ever smoke again, since that will start the downhill slide and in a very short time, you will be smoking again.

There are also groups you can join that will give you someone to call in a pinch.

Good luck!
Hi Curious,
I-m not sure what-s the best way to quit smoking. I-m still working on it myself.

So far, for me, the best way to go is Cold Turkey. I simply stopped buying cigarettes when I ran out. BTW I ran out on March 1st. :)

I still have cravings and I have days I-ve thought about buying some cigarettes. Fortunately, I haven-t given into the cravings yet.

Also, I-m not sure how long the cravings last. It just gets easier to -not smoke- as time passes. I-ve quit for as long as 2 years and I-ve still had carvings. Hopefully, this time, I-ll finally quit for good. :)

Good Luck, I hope you-re successful in becoming a non-smoker.
The way I did it after 48 yrs of smoking was to just quit. I got rid of all the cigaretts I had, I told myself I used to smoke but I don-t anymore. Any time I reached for a cigarette I just laughed at myself and isn-t this stupid, I used to smoke but I don-t anymore. I then got up from what I was doing and did something else for a minute or two. After about a week of this it didn-t bother me anymore. I have been without cigarettes for over ten years now and about two months ago, out of nowhere, came the urge for a cigarette. I just laughed at myself and went on with life.
hi curious..

wow is that a loaded question.. how you quit largely depends on the person.. some are able to quit cold turkey, others may need aids, such as patches, or the new pharmaceuticals, that are now on the market... in the end there is really no wrong way to quit..

for myself i found that participation in the group nicotine anonymous, was instrumental in giving me the support i needed from other quitters, as well as those who had experience staying off smokes..

meetings are available in many areas, as well as a number of meetings daily online.. newcomers are welcome at these meetings, and they encourage people to attend before attempting a quit.. you Will find most people very helpful with their experiences..good luck with your quit!!
Hi
I suggest NLP (Neuro-Linguistic-Programming). NLP is a form of psychotherapy which is applied to help people like you, to stop smoking. The recordings that are created, has the very latest revolutionary techniques which has helped myself and my friend to completely stop smoking.
You only need to spend around 40 minutes listening to the recording, just download the file onto your MP3 player or CD and you-ll be on your way to a smoke free future.

It-s not -how- it-s -why-... give yourself just 1 supremely important reason to be an ex-smoker.

Believe in that reason, and when the -cravings- kick in, think of what you are will achieve by kicking it to the kerb.
Best of luck x

P.S. - I-m doing the Paul McKenna book and cd, it gives lots of ways to deal with the urge to smoke and a cd to listen to. It-s great - will be someone who used to smoke tomorrow, can-t bloody wait!
Personally, I-ve never smoked. But the people I know that have been successful at quitting did it cold turkey. The secret seems to be you really want to quit and then pick a day to quit and stick with it. They seem to have more success when the day they pick is symbolic for some reason. Christmas, New Year-s Day, somebody-s birthday, etc.
Under a support system usually found in your doctors office. Pick a day and go cold turkey. eventually you will be out priced by the government and tobacco industry. get clean and buy something grand for yourself. It can be done. 9years clean
Go Cold Turkey. That is what I did.

You neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedd drugs. Go to the drug store and get Commit lozenges or gum. Something that hits the nicotene addiction and the oral addiction. It-s soooo hard to quit - but I have successfully done so 3 times :) The hard part is never starting AGAIN!
self hypnosis, accupuncture, cold turkey. Whatever the method you choose, you have to really want to quit.
Chew gum, take a deep breath, get up and do something else. I am currently cold turkeying myself. It can be done.

Some states offer quit assist programs, check out your state on a search engine. The QA programs give you free nicotine gum, patches, lounges, etc plus mental support.

Good luck!
Stop buying cigarettes.
Cold turkey!!!
only thing left is cold turkey and a mindset to do so.
OMG. The person that said -you need drugs,-- give me a break. I smoked for 6 years. And one day decided, -Enough!- And I quit. You can-t rely on all that other crap. If you want to quit, you can.
You don-t need drugs. you just need to trick your my into another habit. Keep a box of tooth picks in your back pocket and chew on them when you want to smoke. That worked for my friend Katelin. She was very young when she started smoking.
if you find out let me know, i am also afraid to quit cause i don-t want to gain much weight.
My girlfriend did this....the next time u get really sick and u dont feel like smoking, dont. Then by the time u get better it will be at least 2-6 days and it will be easier to quit. She has been smoke free now for about 9 weeks. Good Luck. I-m waiting for my chance to get sick so that I can quit
I smoked a pack a day for 35 years. I tried many times to quit, and would make it for maybe 2 days. One day I was in Walgreens and noticed -Smoke Away- on sale for $39.99. I bought it on a whim, commenting to the cashier that I was probably throwing away another $40. That was 4 years ago. After 4 days of -Smoke Away- I was a non-smoker, and haven-t smoked since.
The stuff works because it actually clears your blood of nicotine--unlike the patch or any of the other chemical-type -cures- which really feed nicotine into your system. With those types, you may not smoke, but you-ll become addicted to whatever you-re using to -quit-. (It happened to me).
So, if you haven-t tried -Smoke Away-, give it a whirl--I think it-ll work for you. Good Luck.
my wife and son put bars on the windows, and bolted the bedroom door shut and feed me thru a hole in the wall. .its been five years and i still want a cigarette.they want let me out till the craveing is gone. so do not even try. its hopeless. they said five more years and they would go ahead a let me out.i wish i hadn-t told them i wanted to quit.but they let me have a TV .to watch . God bless them.
In my case it had gone beyond addiction. Smoking was autonomic. Yet I stopped 40 years back one evening and never smoked again.
What helped me was that it had gone beyond addiction. There was no craving; no withdrawal. There was no increase in weight either. I have been about 120 lbs for well on 50 years. The same as during smoking days.
Call the Quitline and join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
hypnotherapy worked for me
My exboyfriend quit smoking right after we got together because I couldn-t stand it. He always said that he just decided there were more important things in the world than smoking, AND he started putting the money he WOULD have spent on cigarettes in a jar and realized that at the end of the week he had money to spend on other stuff and it really got him excited. He ended up buying a plasma TV with the cash he saved. Just give yourself some good reasons, get friends to back you up, chew gum and have a pen to fiddle with. Start going to the gym too, you-ll notice that your lung capacity goes way up and it-ll give you something to do OTHER than smoke. Good luck! You can do it! I promise!
The will to quit has to be there. You don-t say how long you have been smoking. My brother-in-law smoked most of his life and he quit cold turkey. He was 79 years old.My brother smoked a long time as well. One day he went out and bought a carton of cigarettes and he went cold turkey. He hasn-t had a smoke for over 50 years.

How many people out there trying to quit smoking.? -

All I seem to hear about is why people should pack up smoking. Well if that is the case, why do the Government not make all Quit Smoking Aids FREE from Pharmacies. Junkies can get Needles Free, Why Not Patches/Gum for Smokers.
I was a smoker, started when I was 11- and married at 16, the moment the DR said I was preggers, as I walked out of the DR office, I dump my cigaretts in the garbage can!
stay quit foir nine months.... all on my own, it is a mind thing, anything you set your mind to do, you can do it.
I will admit though some things are more difficult for some others, like I cant seem to loose weight for the life of me! but I drop them smokes like a hot potato!
I want to add, I would goi back to smoking each time I had my baby- (had 3 of them) and when my baby daughter was 2- she picked up a pencil and was pretending to smoke- I said right then NO MORE.
That has been almost 17 years ago.
and I have not had a single smoke.
each time you quit then start back, it makes it harder next time you try to quit, I did it 3 times, and the last time was the hardest, but now I hate smoke, and hate to be around it, gives me headaches.
Good Luck to you ... ((: you can do it!!!!

The number of times this question appears is unreal. I take it you are a smoker who wants to quit. Well done for taking the first steps. It depends on how badly you want to quit. If you stop buying cigarettes you wont be able to smoke them, Very simple really. It worked for me.
In my experience, very few smokers are happy to carry on smoking. FREE PATCHES ARE AVAILIBLE FROM YOUR G.P. ASK!
i believe that they get approx £3.20 per packet of 20 for taxes. so they making loads of money from us. i always say if its that bad for us STOP BLINKING MAKING THEM. that way no one else will start and we will find it easier to stop as the temptation to buy them wont be there. i have tried a few times to quit but i guess my will power isnt strong enough. i did manage a year and a half once but that nearly killed me.decided to start again.
Quite right! But the government make too much money out of us smokers to ever help us in any way. We-re all doomed. Willpower is the only effective way to give up anyway but after a year and a half I-ve lapsed again.
i agree with you totally.
because the government makes a shed load of money from cigarette taxes...

they tell us they want us to quit smoking...

but if we all did tomorrow, taxes would increase on other things to make up the shortfall.
Because government gets lot of taxes from tobacco products.
HI! I QUIT SMOKING AND HERE IN WEST VIRGINIA WE HAVE FREE NICOTINE PATCHES. I WILL GIVE YOU THE PHONE NUMBER AND MAYBE THEY CAN TELL YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE STATE YOU LIVE IN. 1-888-422-4876 THE NAME OF THE PROGRAM IS HABITROLE TAKE CONTROL SUPPORT PROGRAM. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
Err..They do hun, Ive tried twice in the last 2 years and both times ive been given access to any NRT product that i want, you just have to go your local stop smoking clinic for a consultation and your given them. Its followed up with appointments with advisors to check on your progress. It aint worked tho, the NRT products are just too hideous, apart from the patches and i dont smoke enough to have them.

What is the easiest way to help someone quit smoking? -

What is the easiest way to help someone quit smoking? -

And yes..they want to quit
The same way nicorette helps you. Cut down by 1 cigarette every 2 days, eventually your body will not have a craving for nicotine and you will be free of smoking. (Tried and tested on myself, smoke free for 5 years)

Don-t bother with -Nicotine- replacements they-re too expensive.
If they really want to quit then they are already halfway there. The best thing you can do is give all the support that you can and help keep your friend in a positive frame of mind.

It is key to stay positive, don-t let them focus on the cravings. Remind him/her to keep the reasons why they want to quit circling through their head. This will keep spirit and motivation high. Cravings will ease as a result.

If he/she focuses on the negatives of quitting (eg cravings) then they are reinforcing a false belief that is too hard to quit.

There are no real negatives to quitting, only positives. The longer he/she has stayed smoke free the easier the quitting process becomes. If you can help your friend to believe they can quit, then they will.

Good Luck, I hope you help your friend to quit
This is how I got my girlfriend to quit I take one out the pack stick up my but then put it back in the pack. She got tied of guessing which one first She slowed downed from a pack a day to about 4 a day then quit.
By explaining him how the same is going to affect his body in medical terms and by showing him the quantum of poison he takes in through every puff.

Is it dangerous to quit smoking when pregnanttgt;? -

I heard if you are a heavy smoker (20 a day) and you just stop when you find out you are pregnant, it can be harm full to your baby? They say your body is under s lot of stress when you quit, and you pass that stress onto you baby. Is it better to stop gradually?
no, you gotta stop all together now
It is probably not dangerous, but unnecessarily stressful. Just cut down gradually without stressing out. Even if you don-t manage to stop completely, don-t worry about it. A little smoking won-t hurt the baby - until 1990 or so, doctors didn-t insist that pregnant women quit. Even today, it is mostly panicky, highly judgmental women (see above answers) who INSIST on it.
BTW, a pack a day is not heavy smoking. That is moderate smoking at best. Heavy smoking is 2.5-3.5 packs a day.
Absolutely not. It-s the best thing you can do for your baby. You need to work out a -quitting plan- with your Dr. and do your best to stick to it.

Quitting is incredibly hard, but your little baby is the best motivator you-ll ever have.

Best of luck to you and your new little one.
Never heard of that kind of advice. I-ve always read and heard that any body who smokes pregnant or not increases their chances for improved health by stopping immediately-especially moms to be.
This is a old wives tale so stop smoking now its going to make you and your baby feel so much better, but keep in mind its not easy
Gradually probably won-t work. It won-t be any easier as time goes on, so just quit.
Nonsense.
It is stressful to the baby and the mother. Withdrawals are nothing to stick your nose up at... I-m 2 weeks quit and still having severe cravings and anxiety issues from not smoking. I quit cold turkey and have yet to slip, but I was told by an ob/gyn to wait until I was past the dangerous stage where I could miscarry before quitting. He told me to cut down as much as possible until my second trimester and to offset my tobacco intake with vitamin C tablets. Nicotine depletes your calcium and Vitamin C reserves (which is why so many of us smokers get sick so often), so about 500mg/day and a decrease in the frequency of your tobacco usage should help, if you-re not immediately ready to quit. Keep in mind that you CAN NOT use Nicotine Replacement Therapy (Patches, Gum, Inhalers, etc.) whilst pregnant; the nicotine is delivered in concentrated doses through these products and can harm your baby more than the small dose of nicotine from a cigarette that it-s currently already used to.

Ultimately, the choice to quit has to be completely yours. You have to do it for you and your baby. This is not a guilt trip, but simply something from someone who has recently/is currently going through it. I tried 3 times and failed 3 times, because I was doing it for my doctor, my husband, peer pressure. I ENJOYED smoking and was not ready to quit. I went two days on a quit and rebounded. I quit again at the end of the week for me: I couldn-t breathe after having a cigarette. The two days of no nicotine, combined with pregnancy-onset asthma, showed my lungs what it was like without cigarette smoke in them and made it difficult for me to enjoy cigarettes any more.

End result: If it-s for anyone other than yourself... if you-re doing it to make someone else happy, or simply to try to shut people up who seem to be in your business about your smoking habit, you-re not going to stay quit for very long. This is a life-changing decision that YOU have to be ready to make. You made the choice to start, you have to be ready when you make the choice to quit. Anyone else badgering you needs to back off and be supportive, not oppressive. Stress about quitting will do more harm to your baby than quitting when you-re ready will.

How can I make my parents quit smoking???? -

My parents smoke a lot and i want them to quit.... HOW ????
There is this herbal supplement that is out that can help your parents quite smoking. I helped my grandfather quit smoking my giving him (Diet Herbs nicotine relief) it worked miracles because it took away his craving to smoke. My grandfather had been smoking for at least 40 years and he stopped so I know your parents can also.

Born kit Homeopathics also works very well and so does (Smoke Free) its a spray. You can find all of the things I mentioned at Whole Foods Market or at a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe.

Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!
Chances are your health will be affected by it too. They have to want to quit. Just knowing what it does to their bodies should be enough to quit. Maybe you could reach them that way.
All you can do is just keep telling them that you don-t like it and don-t want to see them ruin their lives and your-s (with 2nd hand smoke). I smoked for 24 years and quit -Cold Turkey- because my kids did not like it. Hopefully they will see your side and do it for you - themselves.
Make yourself a sign that says, -WHY ARE YOU KILLING ME?-,
and wear it around your neck.

It should make them stop and think what their smoking is doing to you. And if they say they will compromise and not smoke around you, tell them that the children of smokers are almost 100% likely to become smokers themselves.

If that doesn-t work, ask them if it-s okay for you to take drugs seeing as they are setting the example for you by taking the drug nicotine.

Good luck.
You can-t,they are adults.Try a prayer.
tell them it really worries you and you love them and want them to be healthy
Cut off their hands.
I had the same problem when I was a kid. I just constantly badgered them about it until they finally quit.
There-s 6570 good reasons... a year.

2 smokers:
3 packs a day,
6$ a pack
1 year
3 X 6$ X 365 = 6570 $
How sad. Nicotine is a very strongly addictive substance - the fact is that you can babble til you are blue in the face about the health risks - how much you love them - dont want them to get sick but they may never quit unless they really pu their minds to it. I really hope they dont smoke around you though. If they do I would focus on the dangers of secondhand smoke - insist that they keep you healthy even if they refuse to help themselves.
It would take alot of willpower that-s for sure.......Well all I can tell you is just say I care about you guys, and lung cancer is the #1 killer I want you guys to have a healthy life, and don-t want you to leave so soon.
sweetie you cannot make anyone do anything that they are not ready to do but if i were you i would talk to them about my concerns. it may or may not help the situation but at least you have voiced your concerns. i would also pray for them that GOD would take that habit away from them. i did that with my mom but unfortunately it didn-t work until she was diagnosed with cancer then she quit but it was too late. she died of cancer about 3 months after being diagnosed. good luck sweetie
You can-t make them quit. You can ask them. You can gather facts on how harmful smoking is and show it to them. Good luck!
You can-t make them do anything if they aren-t ready or willing. However, you can continually tell them your concerns for their and your health.
Leave pamphlets around the house. Invite them to look at a website about smoking risks or quitting. Just love and support them and encourage them.
NONE of the government warnings on cigarette packets even works... if it did then no one would be smoking... you need a different approach...

when you get in a conversation about smoking again, casually slip in the conversation that you would like to see BOTH of them at your wedding some day

Also you could suggest or even buy for them -The Easy Way to Stop Smoking- by Allen Carr (from amazon ~ $10) This book has helped millions of people to stop smoking

nicotine patches dont really work that well... great in the first week or so, not so great after a year. You cannot treat a nicotine addiction by prescribing more nicotine !

My sister and my hygenist have successfully quit (4+ years) after having hypnotherapy...

You could suggest to each of your parents to pay for the hypnotherapy for each other...

I need to give my boyfriend a reason to quit smoking, ideas? -

I love my boyfriend, but he really needs to quit smoking. It really bothers me, but I want him to have a strong reason to quit for himself, not me or anyone else. Any one have any ideas they-d pass my way?
If you hate smoking. Don-t date smokers. That-s just common sense.
Well there is always the simple yet serious health problems associated with smoking that can and will occur. As well as smelling bad.

Other than that it is going to be sort of hard for you to give him a reason to quit for himself... And if he doesn-t want to quit at all then he won-t have a reason for himself and it-s no use.
I am a 15 year old smoker, so I know thats different then someone who smoked for a long time but my answer is...You Can-t. Like most bad habits smoking is enjoyable, thats why people start. But then when you want to stop its so hard you just accept the fact that you like to smoke and you will always be a smoker. Its just so hard when you try thats what ends up happening you forget about all the reasons you wanted to stop and all you think about is how much you love to smoke.
1.) It-s like kissing an ashtray
2.) Do the math. 365x3.50 per pack per day...what could you do with that money instead.
3.) Emphysema is a nasty way to die.
4.) Cancer is no fun
5) Strokes are no fun, Worse if you survive a stoke and end up like a veggie.
6.) Smelly clothes, smelly car, smelly house.
7.) Smoking is so un-cool Can you say trailer-trash?
8.) It has been proven that your complexion ages faster, as well as your voice gets that smokers rasp, and it yellows your teeth. You will look older before your time.
9) Burn holes in your clothes, upholstry in your car.
10) If you have children, your children can suffer from second hand smoke and develop asthma.

I could go on, but this should get you started for now...
if your having sex tell him your going to hold out till he quites and actually go through with it. Or any other thing that you may do that he likes just say well until you quite smoking im not doing it. In the end it becomes a test of how much he loves you. If he really did then he would try it.
None of those will work because i smoke - i enjoy it but i know I need to quit and that crap wouldnt work. In fla april 1st tehy are raising taxes on smokes so that is what is gonna be motivation for me too. i will save about $300 a month. 1 /12 a day.
ive learned that if u smoke a pack of them it takes away 5 hours of ur life and that as u get old u wont be able to speak or move as much.
Be like..
-It makes me really upset that you Smoke. I don-t think I can be with you if you continue this anymore..-
And then if he says -okay let-s break up- ,
They Say you were just kidding!
Hope it works though. lol!
you arent going to be able to give him an idea that is good enough unless he really wants to quit for himself. so it-s really a waste of time.
smells like shite and looks ridiculous too? oh and selfi-poisoning is not cool , and he-s also poisoning you too.(if he smokes in your presence)
he is killing him self everyday. Tell him what would happen to you if he wasent there anymore.

Tell him you wont kiss/touch him if he doesnt quit.

Good luck!!
Tell him that it can kill him. Hopefully this helps!
its expensive. 6 bucks a pack.

Ive recently quit smoking and i need tips on how to control cravings? -

Munch on low calorie food like celery, raw carrots (the big ones, not after they cut them in baby size). I felt like Bugs Bunny after I quit smoking!
I am in the same situation you are in. It is really hard, isn-t it? Now, I am not saying this will work for everyone, I just know what is helping me. In due time I think the cravings will go away. I always have something to drink right by me. That helps me. When I start to want a cigarette, I always have a salad made and I eat some salad. Or have celery sticks ready and hold a celery stick like a cigarette and pretend it is a cigarette. It was getting to where I was just lighting one right after the other, just a bad habit. I have mentos and mints and everything else on my desk to put in my mouth so I won-t put a cigarette between my lips. I hope you have good luck and I hope you find something that will help you. I know my ways sounds silly, but I am just doing what works for, everyone is different. I can-t afford those fancy and high dollar stuff they have on the market. So, I do the best I can.
I ate a banana and a apple a day and it helped me.
take deep cleansing breaths and drink a glass of water.
chew gum when you get the cravings

What are some ways i can help a friend quit smoking? -

What are some ways i can help a friend quit smoking? -

spend time with your friend by hanging out with them, keep feeding him or her gum as a substitute for smoking, a nice day at the spa if not that you can always steal their cigarettes take them away or just try to get a bunch of your friends together and stage an ambush to take your friend on a intervention trip to help get rid of the need to smoke
call 311
I think you can suggest your friend to eat a fish (edible ones) raw.
Maybe he/she will quit.It doesnt really work on everyone.
What-s up w/ u-r Avatar-s hat?!?!?!? It-s kinda creepy!
Buy her those patches that you put on your arm. My brother tried it and he really didn-t feel like smoking, Also, find those pictures online that show how the insides of a smoker look. That should scare her, him away.
When she-s passed out on 6 sleeping pills, sew up her mouth.
Convince him/her of the consequences and motivate. Remind daily.
i recommend cinnamon candies or red hots, that is how my ex bf dads stop smoking
I guess the first question is: does your friend want to quit smoking? If yes, then be supportive of his/her choice...go to places where smoking isn-t allowed, help them go through their house and get rid of all ash trays, lighters, and hidden stashes of cigarettes, for many just having a friend be there and wanting to help them quit is enough.
Lock him/her in a room for a month and make them fight it out.

I dunno, maybe that isn-t so nice... lol ; )

If you know they-d be honest, maybe promise to treat him/her to an ice cream, a coffee, a something, after each week they get through without smoking at all. Make it a fun get together incentive.
About the only thing a person can do is not smoke in front of the person trying to quit or get them drunk. Be supportive, not nagging. It-s really up to the individual.
U can suggest and U can be a friend, but the decision has to be made by them....they got to -want- to stop...U can not make them stop...but be there 4 them when they need U....drugs, alcohol etc...same thing...
go out sied go for work put flawws in the ahtray
yell at her tell her mom or the popoes!
It-s hard to get them to quite unless THEY want to. I tried for many years to quit because some of my family and friends didn-t like it, but it was only until I realized I wanted to quit for ME, that I actually did.

Don-t preach to them, that-ll only make them want to light up another one. Just be supportive, etc.
If your friend wishes to quit, then she-ll quit and come looking to you for support...but to try to force or -scare-(as a smoker myself, I know the reasons not to smoke...but I do it because I like it, and if and when the time comes, I-ll pay the consequences for it)her...that won-t do any good. We all know the risks of smoking, we all know what can happen if you do it...if you-re friend still considers to do it...then let it alone.

Has anyone here quit smoking cold turkey and did it work for you? -

Has anyone here quit smoking cold turkey and did it work for you? -

I-m trying to quit..
decide to be acitve about your decision. make it every day over and over agian. don-t rest on the fact that you quit. You are still addicted, and every time you say no, you are beating back that addiction. it is hard as hell, the trickiest thing for me is that this means you still have to make the decision a year later when it seems like your addiction was forever ago. thats the ***** of addiction. its always there. you are the only one who can decide not to smoke and you gotta decide that every time.
Yep... just don-t buy them or bum them anymore... then go have your teeth cleaned and whitened... it-s a great incentive
I never smoked. A family member of mine quit cold turkey though. It was my grandmother. Her husband had lung problems real bad from smoking, was on oxygen and everything. Her doctor finally told her that if she didn-t quit smoking she-d end up like him. She wasn-t having it so she just quit. Took only like a week. Hasn-t smoked since. And she was a smoker since she was a late teenager. The thing that made her quit was she decided firmly in her mind she was going to do it.
I didn-t have the willpower so I chew the gum. Most successful quitters I know went the cold turkey route.

Good luck!

PS: Stay away from other smokers if you can.

Alcohol has one, does nicotine have a name for being addicted?
It-s called being a smoker. Chain smoking is the highest level of addiction.
You mean like, -smokaholic-? I don-t think so, but it-s an addiction, nevertheless. Maybe some day there will be a name for a smoking cessation organization, like -Smokers Anonymous-! In the meantime, I think it-s very nice of you to help your friends quit this habit. Good luck!
i dont kno but it really isn-t that hard if you keep busy n after like 5 days u wont want one i quit cold turkey its called will power!!!!
john i think you should just try, try ,try again .

nop...most of them dont quit...how can u quit when u-re addicted to it?..its like quit using your car, and start walking 2 your work because the gas price went up...people just dont just quit

the prices went up....and it is not a reason to quit....
Smoking is a horrible habit. I quit a 2 pack a day habit using an electronic cigarette. They are amazing. The last time I had a traditional cigarette was an hour before I got my e-cig in the mail. I have not had the desire to smoke a traditional cigarette ever since. They don-t stink at all and you can smoke them indoors at bars and restaurants. I feel a million times better now. Here is a link to the company I buy from. They have one of the best reputations in the e-cig world and great prices. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you.
www.greensmoke.com/learn
I quit smoking quite awhile ago and the price wasn-t a deciding factor for me. I have wondered how people can afford to smoke now. I can-t believe how expensive cigs are!
idk but i don-t think people can quite just because the prices went up. even if they are more expensive they are still going to buy them because they have to feed there addiction

My husband is taking vit c and now he wants to quit smoking is it ok if he takes vit C and Vit B? -

my husband is taking vit c and now he wants to quit smoking is it ok if he takes vit C and Vit B for stress reduction while on process of quitting smoking? where specifically i can get the peppermint tea or mint tea within U.S? is it available in walmart?
The vit suppliments are fine, it may also help him to drink nettle tea.
The herbal teas are available in most health shops;
vitamins aren-t like drugs you can mix them up a plenty. In fact you should everyone needs Vitamins C and B for a healthy lifestyle. The best way to get these vitamins is to improve your eating habits not to take supplements. Eat plenty of fruit and veg and a balanced amount of meat.
Vits are not going to do him any damage at all if he takes them whilst he-s quitting. As for peppermint tea, I can-t help as I-m not in the US, but perhaps your local health food shop might stock it if you can-t find it in any big supermarket
of course of course. infact, include this in his diet. vitamins will help strengthen the body by providing nourishment which was depleted when he was smoking. example, a stick of cig destroys about 25mg of vit c. so if he is quiting, help him more by providing more nourishment, fruits and vegies and lots of vitamins and minerals. tea, of course is available in walmart. or any store selling alternative medicines too.
Why not suggest a multi vitamin tablet? One tablet all the goodness.
when quitting smoking it is important to have a good diet, supplements will help and they are OK to use, tell him to drink extra water, as the throat can dry quickly when trying to quit, try some relaxation techniques also.
yes it is absolutly ok. tell him to take some drugs like diphen hydramin if he doesnt feel well. it is a fine sedative
vitamin c and b can be taken together. But if your concerned you can take one and the other a few hours appart. All this stuff is available at walmart and even the grocery store.
those teas are at the local grocery stores they aren-t anything unusual. Vitamins are always good to take anytime.
But really if he is long time smoker the best way is with the patch and Wellbutrin, you can get both from the doctors and its much easier than anything else my guy tried.
yes its fine for him to take the vits and yes you can get them from any walmart
Vit c is water soluble and you only retain what your body needs to you cannot overdose on it. Bit B is a complex vitamin but one tablet a day will not do him any harm.

Hello, I am a habitual hashish smoker. I have been smoking for a year; I smoke about 1 joint /a day. Actually, I really enjoy smoking that daily joint at the end of day. I just do not know whether this daily joint will have drawbacks on me on the long-run or not. So I just want to know is 1 joint a day considered a big deal or not, and what are the bad effects that will happen to me if I did not quit?

Go to the NHS for quitting support. They have great ideas tailored to your needs and will give you all the gum and patches you could ever need.

You should ask your mother not to leave her cigarettes around the house. I-m sure she-ll try not to because she wants you to be healthy and I-m sure she-d help you out on your path to quitting. Good luck.

i use to smoke...alot longer then you too. i smoked for about 8 years. i recently quit back in may. all you have to do is put your mind to it. and since you know that there are other things you can be doing then smoking pot and looking for it you should start doing them things. also think about how much money you spend buying pot and the gas you waste looking for it. you can be spending that money on clothes! or whatever you like! good luck..you can do it!!!!
I smoked pot several times a day from the time I was about fifteen until I was twenty and I got pregnant, and I just quit, that was all. It really wasn-t that hard because, first of all, I knew the baby probably wouldn-t want me to smoke pot, I wanted to do what was best for her, so I had a lot of motivation, but I quit the moment I found out I was pregnant and I had her thirteen months ago and still do not smoke. Really, just stop smoking it, it is not physically addictive so you shouldn-t experience any physical withdrawal symptoms, though you may have difficulty sleeping and in that case just take some unisom, it-s safe and effective. BUt it should be easy for you because you will see the benefits, as you already know that it makes you lazy. I was actually a lot more energetic and happy and clear minded without it. Just stop cold turkey, it;s not so bad. Good luck!!!:)
I think your best bet is to just go cold turkey. It might be tough for a little while, but if you truly want to stop smoking you-ll be able to tough it out.

I-m not sure of any methods to quit in terms of things you can do instead (most of my friends have tried to quit, but go back to it a couple days later) My only friend to have successfully quit from chronic use did it with a list. He just made a list of all the reasons pot made him happy, and then what he disliked about it. The cons outweighed the pros, so he ended up quitting cold turkey knowing that in the long run it would benefit him.
It is really easy don-t hang out all the time with pot heads. I know if your not next to it you don-t get it passed to you. I quit for six months while I was in California I had business to take care of. The only thing I would like to say. I smoke weed now at bedtime but I worked 60 hours a week to support myself. Don-t get lazy it-s hard to stay motivated but it happens when no ones on drugs too. You make your own choices. But if you want to quit don-t hang with pot heads and try to work more.
You can quit smoking in 38 minutes and 13 seconds!

thats a mental addiction- not a physical one so u have to have a mental drive to beat it...
another motivator to quit is that ur skin will clear up when u quit- it gives u the worst acne
Sheer will power. You-ll notice, after about 3-4 wks that its all psycological. Just the act of doing it kept you going. Good luck
honestly that stuff IS addictive regardless of what you probably heard. if its that much of a problem you should seek some kind of counseling.
I have done it since I was twelve. It is extremely hard to stop. You just need to have your priorities straight and go out more often. Push out all tempting thoughts.
How about replace it with a better habit like working out or learning a new hobby like kneading or playing guitar. Good luck!

Whats an effective way to quit smoking? -

I-m 15 years old and have been smoking for 2 years now, I honestly can-t see my life without it but it runs in my family to have lung cancer. I clearly do no want to develop this and I am searching for a simple way to quit smoking without using medicine, because it recommends being 18 for the medicines.
Read this book:The Easy Way To Stop Smoking by Alan Carr
I quit a couple of years ago. One thing that helped me was remembering that as bad as your urge to smoke gets-you need to remember that in a minute or 5 minutes whatver-it will be gone. Pump iron, run, play air guitar-go for a walk , instead of smoking. yes the craving will come back but the frequency will be less until it finally disappears. The natural tendency for people is to believe that a craving is only going to get worse and keep getting worse if you don-t do something about it. In reality, it will go away shortly. Do whatever you have to do-lock yourself in the house for two weeks, chain yourself to a wall and have someone bring you food-whatever you have to do -just do it. Whatever you have to put yourself through for a few weeks, a month whatever -just do it-it can mean a lifetime of freedom. Nothing is worse for you than smoking. My Dad has lung cancer and he quit a long time ago. It-s brutal man on him and our family. The damage was done when he was in his teens. Just quit now...whatever it takes. good luck man.
You are wise to not want medications. The best way to quit is to go cold turkey. Completely stop. You have to really want to quit. Make up your mind to do it and just do it. I know from experience. The easy part is quitting. The difficult part is staying off of them. Many people I know have successfully quit this way. Only a few have picked them back up again.
I quit a 5 pack a day habit after smoking 55 years by cutting back a little every week
Cold turkey.
If you parents know that you smoke, they may be willing to help you quit. I can tell you a way to help you quit smoking without using drugs. I have several friends that have successfully quit without having the usual ill effects usually associated with quiting (like gaining weight). See the Peggy Fleming video at
http://www.12weeks.info

I don-t know exactly why this works but it does. Not only will you have the benefits of quiting but your health will improve so rapidly, you may choose to keep using this great natural product from now on. This stuff is a little expensive but it is also Free. I say that because it is cheaper than smoking. You can tell your parents that I can even show them how to get it with no cash outlay. After viewing the video, write to me for more details. Bruce at boatclub@go.com
One solution is hypnotherapy (possibly with patches or gum). Another is phased withdrawal, using nicotine patches or gum, supported by putting a short, blunt, pencil or unlit herbal cigarette (Honeyrose or similar) in your mouth when you feel the urge to smoke, to provide oral stimulation. Get rid of your lighters. Find something to do with your hands, worry beads or prayer beads is one option, whittling is another, or mini games (cellular mobile phone type, or similar). Most people need more than one try; be prepared to handle temptation. Hey Smoke that Green man git off ciggs
You can only go cold turkey(stop without delay and assistance) Stay away from smokers while you are quitting and consider meditation to relieve any withdrawal related stress. Find anything that can divert your thoughts from smoking.

How do i quit smoking for good,no meds please(over a20 year habbit)? -

without meds.........hypnotism, biofeedback, nicotine gum, or a support group

from what I have seen used ***successfully***

the nicotrol inhalers are very effective.....work similar to a cigarette in that you inhale for a nicotine fix........but they are smokeless.....wellbutrin .....or a patch.......later three require a written script. several have good results with a combination of products. Good luck
A couple buddies of mine quit this way, but start smoking american spirits. Then slow down with those. He claims that they have less chemicals, that way your body can slowly get used to having less stuff to be dependent on. I only smoke when i-m on fire so I-m just going off what I hear. Hope this helps.
Go to a cancer hospital and visit the lung cancer patients in their rooms. Listen as they have their lungs suctioned for mucous. See how soon you light up after that!
I smoked for 10+ years. I quit when I was sick and gagging and coughing! When you are ready you will stop! If you never stop you will never be ready I guess!!
If you find out let me know. Darn it now I want a smoke....
Well, Ill tell you what worked for me. Join the marines. When you first arrive they give a speech about this and that, and one quote from that speech is, -They are the number one program to stop smoking- lol you cant smoke during boot, and I never even thought about cigs for those 3 months, or ever after. Now that Im discharged, I did pick it up again. I would suggest a substute, instead of smoking chew some gum. Maybe have one cig now, and eat a piece of gum the next time you want a cig. Give that a try.
First, ignore people who say things like -just stop-
They never smoked.
I smoked for 35 years. Quit. I used the patch and had a good support group. You have to have a reason to quit. A real reason. -My frineds say a should- wont work.
For me it was gitting sick this past Christmas. I couldn-t breath. I coughed for two weeks in a row. Nothing but coughing. cough cough cough. I got tired. I was thirsty all the time. I couldn-t talk without haveing a glass of water handy. I used the patches for 10 weeks. Now I use the gum once in a while. (when times are hard) I-d rather chew nicotine gum for the rest of my life. Sometimes two pieces at once. chew chew chew.... whatever.
Also, I found it helpful to keep my teeth really clean. Brush often. learn to like that clean taste. Find a way to figure out how gross smoking is.
Good luck!
It-s hard to quit, I-ve tried many times. Stopping cold turkey can be difficult and nerve racking. Try limiting yourself to less every day, then one a day (a couple drags at a time, then put it out). Convince yourself that you don-t want one and try to avoid situations where others are smoking. It-s tough, but if your will is strong enough, you will overcome the habit. I only wish I could follow my own advice (I said it-s tough!).
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
Without meds it has to be a mind over craving thing. You have to really give yourself reasons not to. Not just -its bad for me- because everyone eats junk food and its bad for them too but we like it so we eat it. Try thinking about what it-s doing to those around you, your kids (if you have them) could end up with cancers, asthma, or other issues later on. Think about how cold it gets in the winter and how stupid it is to have to run outside in snow to get a few drags in. Think about how it-s already messed you up, maybe breathing issues, making you sick more often, making sicknesses worse, screwing up your throat, mouth, and teeth. Your voice. Make a list if you have to of the things you hate about it and post it in a place or places you-ll see it regularly.
Just stop.
Don-t put a cigarette in your mouth and light it.
I quit a 20 yr. habit of three packs a day by using sugarless gum whenever I needed to smoke. Also prayer helps.
Look at pictures in medical books of cancer caused by smoking. Great incentive to stay with it. GOOD LUCK!

Hey i actually quit smoking at a time i was strongly advised not to as i suffer from stress/anxiety etc! Your body seems to work in strange ways but all i ate was chewing gum and instead of having a smoke after food etc i just drank tea! Will power is also a must you can do it lol x
alot of will power and thinking of a goal and therefore a reward to treat myself when i reached my goal, ie: a certain number of weeks but other help is out there to make it easier for you.

how long does it last for? im not craving cigarettes much at all im just having awful mood swings amongst other anxiety symptoms
I have quit smoking for 9 months now.

Be STRONG and stay focused on the goal... I honestly found that it took 3 months to get over the cravings and anxiety
Presumably if you felt anxious when you smoked, the sucking action calmed you down? If that is the case then find something to suck on like a straw or something similar in shape to a cigarette.
I use swedish Snus now.....no smoking......and none of the problems of quiting
