What is the best way to quit smoking? -

ok err i-m rather stupid but mehh,
i am 16, i smoke and i want to quit.
so i need sugestions on how to quit
Perhaps you can find some useful information in
http://www.quitnow.info.au
.
To quit smoking, you can do the following things:

Write down the reasons why you smoke.

Know in which situations you like to smoke best.

You should know these situations very well (for example, when you are having a good time) and start to think of a solution for how you want to deal with that situation. More.

* Determine the day you will stop. That can be tomorrow, but you can also wait for a more favourable moment.
* Tell the people around you that you are going to quit. Possibly with somebody else.
* Take away everything that reminds you of smoking.
* Stop radically; it gives you the best chance of success.
* Change your eating and drinking habits. Drink a lot of water, eat a lot of fresh fruit and be aware of -pleasure drinks- like coffee, tea and alcohol.
* Take care of enough physical relaxation. Go for a walk or a ride or go swimming.
* Reward yourself. Do nice things or give yourself something, like a cd or clothes.
* If you fall back, don-t give up. Find out in what situation it happened and try to find out with what (alternative) behaviour you can react in the future. If you manage to come through the same situation next time, you have become stronger.

The desire to smoke is one of the first things you notice when you stop smoking. Such a moment lasts a few minutes. It comes, stays for a while and then goes. If you have stopped smoking recently, you will have that desire more often than after a few weeks. After a while, the periods between -wanting to smoke- get longer and longer. Ultimately, the desire to smoke diminishes. Nicotine patches, self-help books and your doctor can help you to stop smoking. Also, health care centres usually have special -quit smoking- programs.
Cut off your source of cigarettes. If you use a fake ID to buy them outside, destroy it. If you regularly associate with people who smoke, you might need to stop seeing them for a while, if that-s not possible, explain ot them that you-re trying ot quit and ask if they could not smoke around you, not offering you cigarettes and not giving them to you if you ask should go without saying. While being able to quit on your own without outside help is great and all, getting other people you know to help keep you clear of them won-t kill you.
Get a tin can, like an old coffee can or and empty soup can and stick cigarettes in there that you have smoked recently. Put some water in the can also. Close the can with a tight seal. Every time you get the urge to smoke, take a whiff of the can. The smell should make you nauseous and you-ll eventually associate smoking a cigarette with that gross smell of old cigarettes in water. Good luck!
get the patch, it worked for me, but follow these simple directions instead of the ones on the box,
1) remember that the patch only really needs to be changed every two days, not daily, the chemicals continue to delover a dose of nicotine on the second day as well, they just don-t want you to know that because they sell more patches that way,
2) on the second wee, don-t buy the #2 or #3 patches, just buy the #1-s and cut them in half, this gives you a two week supply of weaker patches.
3) continue to cut them in half each week and soon you will have quit and weaned yourself off the nicotine dependency.

I quit 4 years ago, and never went back.
I got a taste of smoking due to curiosity when i was 14 while i was on a vacation job with my smoking friends. it came to a stop when we part our ways after a month. ever since till now (i-m 36) i never pick a cigarette again (except i dream i smoke and what a shivering nightmare, i am glad its just a dream).

i would suggest that you get yourself preoccupied with some other meaningful activities and whatever they are, its important to strike a balance. its better to save your smoking $$ in the bank, and keep a good sheet of health. good luck and you can quit it.
Forget will Power..........

Use your common sense ............
Smoking is a slow painful killer. It takes years to develop
but it can-t be cured.

* About 33% of male adult global population smokes.
* Time cut down from one’s lifespan is approximately equal to the time indulged in smoking.
* Every minute, seven people die of tobacco use.
* 49 known carcinogenic compounds and 4000 other toxins constitute a single cigarette.
* More than 90 % of lung cancer deaths are due to cigarette smoking.
* The cost that smokers impose on US economy is more than $150 billion a year.
look man it-s all in your head.
you have to be able to quit mentally before you can give it up. just dont be a pu**y about it!
put down the cigarette or blunt and just chill on things for a while.
and pick up a hobby.
play guitar its fun and entertaining
plus girls love guitars
and drink water every time you crave it or chew gum
it-s all about how strong your will power is
just dont give in and stay away from other smokers
that-s what gets me most of the time.
if you want to quit each time you want to have a stogy just do something to hurt your self and eventually you won-t even want to pick up a smoke
nicotine patches. or nicorette gum.
cold turkey

Once you quit smoking, how long does nicotine stay in your system ? -

the first three days of quitting -cold turkey- are the hardest, i assume because that-s the normal time it takes to clear the nicotine out of your system (but i-ve read it can take 14 days). drink plenty of water and GOOD LUCK !!!
nicotine is a short acting short lasting drug, this is why smokers have to keep smoking to get their fix. Generally, once your quit, all nicotine is out of your system in 24 hours, it can take up to a year for the body to get rid of all the other toxins you get with cigarettes, like the tar that builds up in your lungs and the cyanide that builds up in your bones and hair.
It takes quite a few months I believe. I have emphysema and COPD so I-m doomed. I-m here on borrowed time. If you smoke, quit now! Believe me! Its NOT worth the cost and suffering you will encounter over the years.

I quit smoking and am gaining weight like crazy! should I go on the slimfast diet? will that help? -

I don-t feel like I am eating more, at first I was, but not now and I am STILL gaining weight!!! Is slimfast helpful??
Sometimes when people quit smoking they gain a lot of waight. You may not feel like you are eating more, but sometimes the stress from quitting smoking can make a person gain weight. I would try a healthier diet and excercise. Beyond that, you can always see a nutritionist or a health specialist who might be able to help you lose weight.
Yes, it is baby. Making love is also, a fantastic
way, of shedding those unwanted pounds. Care

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

I am sixteen and have been smoking for three years. the day before yesterday i had two cigarettes and yesterday i had two. so far today i have not had one. and i feel like i am going to go crazy!

What are some tips to calm me down and get rid of the oh so powerfull urge...?
Cold turkey. Have plenty of gum, mints, and hard candy available. Cut plastic straws to cigarette size and -pretend- smoke them and chew on them. Keep yourself busy and distracted. BE DETERMINED. If necessary, go hour by hour.

If I can quit a 27 year long, 3-pack-a-day Kool habit, ANYONE can quit.
Good luck, and stay strong!
This stuff chantix is supposed to be the best thing to quit with. You have to see a doctor to get a perscription and w/o health insurance its 300$ or more for a month supply.

CHANTIX is a non-nicotine pill.
CHANTIX is a non-nicotine prescription medicine specifically developed to help adults 18 and over quit smoking. Over 6 million people in the U.S. have already been prescribed CHANTIX.*

How is CHANTIX different from other smoking cessation products?
CHANTIX does not contain nicotine. It works in two ways. It targets nicotine receptors in the brain, attaches to them, and blocks nicotine from reaching them. It is believed that CHANTIX also activates these receptors, causing a reduced release of dopamine compared to nicotine.

It-s recommended that you begin your CHANTIX treatment a week before you stop smoking completely. This gives CHANTIX a chance to build up in your body. You may smoke during the first week of your CHANTIX treatment, but you should stop smoking completely on Day 8 of your treatment.

CHANTIX is proven to work.
In studies, 44% of CHANTIX users were quit during weeks 9 to 12 of treatment (compared to 18% on sugar pill). CHANTIX also helped reduce the urge to smoke.

CHANTIX has been proven to be more effective in helping smokers quit than Zyban? (bupropion hydrochloride). The average person in these studies had been a smoker for more than 24 years. The trials involved a mix of men and women who smoked an average of 10 or more cigarettes a day.
For me, nothing really helped. I went on the patch, tried the gum, and both just made me want more nicotine.

The best tool was me finally just being sick of the way I smelled, the way I felt and the money I was spending. I-m a pretty active person and it is scary how much smoking effects your ability to even just run for a short period of time if necessary.

Even though it is also a drug, caffeine can help curve the cravings and you can cut down on it once your nicotine cravings are gone. I drank tons of pop and coffee during the first few weeks.

Smoking is just as much a mental addiction as a physical one. The oral sensation of having the cigarette in your mouth is something you will miss. Having flavored toothpicks can help with this as they give you a new taste and something to have in your mouth. Hard candy or suckers work the same way.

Finally, be aware that you are going to feel like crap for awhile. There is no one who has quit that didn-t feel like killing someone during those first few days / weeks. Mentally tell yourself that it is okay, and you will get through it even if you do feel like screaming.

Best of luck, nicotine is the worst; just as addictive as heroin.
Those first couple of days are the worst. If you can make it past the first week you are home free! I have found that when I quit smoking that in my mind I had to really want to quit or it just didn-t work. It-s more of a mental addiction than it is physical. I quit for a year and started back and still am now. I am trying to get myself in that mental state where I was once to quit b/c they have went up so high I just don-t feel justified buying them. The one tip I can give you is don-t eat to fill the crave. You will gain weight. When you quit smoking usually the reason you gain weight is b/c when you smoke it affects your taste buds so when you quit food tastes better, so you eat more. Some eat just to not think about smoking too. Chew some gum. Exercise. Keep yourself occupied so you won-t think about it. Good luck.
try drinking loads of water when you get a craving. keep your hands busy as part of the addiction is the physical motion of smoking. You can also try going for a walk, sprint for a short distance or do jumping jacks. Try not to substitute smoking for food since that is normally how people who have recently quit gain so much weight.

i quit using champix and it really REALLY helped. its doctor prescribed so try heading to the doc.

good luck
im on the same boat with ya brahhhh,

what i did, and made me stop for a while, was.

when you get the smoke in your mouth,
dont take it into your lungs./
keep it in your mouth and swallow it,

[like food,wwater,etc..]

its the worst thing,
and made me hate cigarets for a long time.

its mind over matter/.
Definitely gradual, slowly.
Like, maybe one a day, then one every two days, three days ect.
Also patches may help.
Try to do some things u lyk to do. ( ride ur bike, watch t.v, etc) or try that cure they sell it at drugstores and target.

hope i helped.
wink wink
when you are phyiscally, mentally and emotionally ready!! not being funny.
you shouldnt have started but if you really want to stop tell your parents that you smoke then they can help you stop hopefully
Stop buying and borrowing them.

The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. Is there a sure way to not gain weight after quitting smoking? -

I have been smoking for about 8 years. I have tried to quit a couple of times, but when I start to gain weight I freak out and start again. Any advise?
I quit a little over a week ago. I have cut out the soda, been watching what I eat, and exercising. I have actually lost a couple pounds as a result. I also have a bathroom scale that reports body fat which is also helpful.
For me the ONLY thing was exercise. Not too much 20-30 min. a day of brisk walking did the trick.
Very good luck to you!!!
The main reason people gain weight after smoking is because they substitute their addiction with food. Instead of smoking, they munch on stuff. Instead, maybe you could substitute with something healthier like working out. (Working out can actually be addictive, too!) Or instead of munching, drink water.

How do i quit smoking!?!?!? -

How do i quit smoking!?!?!? -

I have been smoking cigarettes for about 3 years. I just can-t seem to quit. I hate smelling like smoke all the time. And my chest hurts sometimes. I can-t even go up a flight of stairs without feeling out of breath. I can-t stand it anymore. I-ve tried the gum and the patch, but they didn-t work. I still got headaches, and craved a cigarette SO badly. Sometimes i will quit cold turkey for about 2 days, then get stressed out, and give up and buy a pack. How dd you quit smoking???
I started taking Chantix Labor Day, and have gone about 2 months without a cigarette. It is much more effective than Wellbutrin. I find the anxiety levels none too overwhelming compared to other remedies, especially in that all-too-crucial first week. Not only that, but you even continue to smoke when you start Chantix. After a few days you start to realize the cigs aren-t giving you that relief anymore because Chantix works by binding to and clogging your nicotine receptors. It-s easier to quit when the cigs don-t give you that little high, because in reality they really don-t taste all that good and you-re only in it for the high in the first place.

Talk to your doctor as Chantix is prescription only (I think they call it Champix in Europe, if that-s where you are). It cost me about $125 for a 1 month supply.
theres only one way,,,, throw them away, and get thru the addiction if you can quit for a day you can quit, you just have to get thru the mental and yes there is a physical addiction too. just have to do it the best way my brother in law smoked for years the only thing to help him was to just do it you will need emotional help too good luck
Start some healthy habits before you quit and maybe change a few other habits. If you have a cigarette with some coffee, try drinking something else instead.
Try Nicorette gum. It-s got the flavor of Nicotine and will work as a
substitute for tobacco. I smoked for 4 years (1980-84) and tried to
quit -cold-turkey- style three times. No cigar. I then tried Nicorette
gum and had no desire to light up again after just two months.
Good luck!
Chew that nicorette gum, or cough drops...try chewing of straws, always have something in your mouth. And keep busy to take it off your mind. good luck
i think you have to check with your doctor and get x- ray with your lungs, since you said you have some problem with it. and might ask your doctor to give you some advices for quiting smoking.
just keep quiting cold turkey. if you feel you need to have a cig, then do it. everyone fails at first. but if you keep trying, sooner or later you will succeed. and if you think its hard to quit after 3 years of smoking, try to do it after 40 years.

I need to quit smoking maryjuana? -

Any idea what I should do im just a sophmore in high school and I dont want it to take control of my life, i want better grades, a good future in football, and better memory. I just wanna quit, but you all know how hard that is... can someone please help, ive learned my lesson
If you can not get rid of bad habit, come to Jesus with genuine repentance and faith. He is your Answer. You will find a life worth-living in Him.

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives us air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives us water to drink and food to eat.
God gives us a wonderful body and a sound mind and life.
God loves us, and we are precious to Him.
The Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Your life therefore has a fantastic and glorious future!

everyone says it is not physically addictive, so if you are addicted it is for psychological reasons. My guess is you are trying to escape from something that troubles you. The best way to quit smoking pot is to face what you are trying to escape head on. Maybe seeing a therapist is in order. Also, if you want to quit you need to completely get it out of your life, stop hanging with your stoner friends...
Very easy. . .marijuana causes a psychological dependence and is not addictive. Just don-t light the next joint and develop an interest in something else. . . BTW get rid of all your stash and do not have any available.
there, you said it yourself, you learned your lesson, now stop, get a hold on your future and go for it.
Say buddy, I got some good news for you. Many people quit without professional help. Often it will take several attempts befor a person stops. But the slip ups are not a big deal. What is imporant is that you start again. Each time you slip up you learning something about what -Triggered- you to smoke. Keep a list of the things that triggered your smoking and then come up with some other plan on how to deal with the situation.
There might be a place in your area that will provide you will addtional help: it can be free. To get a list contact 411 and ask for a drug treatment center in your area.

It is common for people your age to drop in and out of drug using behaviors. The fact that you are adressing this now suggests that you will do well in the future.

The two biggest problems with pot is that 1. you can go to jail for a long time if you get caught, and 2. you can never be sure if what you are buying is really pot (you never know what you might be getting)

Actually: this can be the best experience of your life. Quitting is difficult, but you will really learn quite a bit about yourself in the process. What you will learn will help you as an adult.
just stop cold turkey, my husband has smoked for years and years and he stopped cold turkey, been off for 2 weeks. dont be around people who smoke..
If you dont want to smoke it then dont. It is not addictive as cigerrettes, cocaine, meth, heroine, or booze. You may want to avoid being around it since you feel the need to smoke it if having the chance. If you make excuses to smoke pot then you gotta learn to deal with those excuses.
Just stop doing it. Your memory and life will improve afterwards.
I-m a junior in highschool. i will be a senior in a short time. The last three years of my life are all a blur to me because i was a pothead. I was almost raped by an older man because i mixed weed and oxy. Trust me, i dont mean to be a preecher but the people who resist drugs are the stronger. be stronger and achieve your dreams. The cool and stupid class clown stoner kids, are the weak and will fade out of high school very soon sadly. Just stop smoking pot. It-s that easy. Get a hobby, make a journal on how you feel each day and your cravings. It-s hard everyday but with self motionation and strong will. you can surely bet it as i did. good luck my friend. if you need anymore assistance or help please allow me to help you.
my email-- meltheamazingmexican@yahoo.com
aol/aim_- xsprinkledinklex
-mel
just stop.i know its hard because its a addiction but get help or something.dont let it control you.
i-ve been where you are - know its hard,...
once you stop, you need tools to remain stopped
1. don-t hang around your stoner friends-if they are using-you gotta cut -em loose!
2. go to a support system of some sort (like narcotics anonymous)
3. get honest with your parents if you haven-t already
4. get used to saying no! as in no, i cant go to that party if they are smokin dope there,...
5. clean up whatever mess you made while doing dope, trust god, and be of service to others without expecting anything in return.

i was your age when i was encouraged to go to my first narcotics anonymous meeting because my life was a mess,(it all started with weed-but went way way beyond)
i struggled through the rest of high school hating that i just couldn-t stay away from drugs. i finally got clean after failing out of my first semester of college, drugs were no longer fun and i was no longer in control,....
the best thing to do is to get in a program with people that have the same problem and are trying to quit at the same time!
trust me ...partnership helps!
don-t go through this alone!
and good luck
Just focus on it really hard. Get another hobby, work out, get some friends who are always hanging out but dont somke weed. Weed doesnt create a physical addiction so its all in your head. Just try to think of other things
yeah...i was really into it once, i did it every single day.
but i just stopped. it doesnt help out in anyway, not really a point in it (to me) its not hard at all! its all in your head!
seriously!

Help to quit smoking? -

I-m 14 and smoking, I need help to quit, any suggestions or opinions?
I-m 24 and I started at 16 and am still a smoker, much to my dismay. I can-t quit for longer than a week. Don-t get like me. I go through a pack and a half a day. Go cold turkey, avoid the smell of smoke, and distract yourself by finding new hobbies or anything else to take your mind off the craving.
I-m in the same boat. A year ago I stopped for about 5 months, I used the pills Chantix. I ended up smoking again and am now trying to quit. I agree with some of the others, trying to keep busy. Alot of the times the craving would pass if I tried to think about something else.
I used store brand, generic nicotine patches, going through all 3 steps. They worked fine, but I also found it helpful to take vitamins and herbal supplements which help keep the mind clear, alert, and focused which is what cigs do! B-vitamins, omega oils, calcium, ginkgo biloba, gotu kola. Don-t drink coffee!!! You may also feel better if you eat more fruits and veggies, and drink lots of water, which detoxifies your body.
It can be kind of expensive but my mom quit using one of the patches. Try keeping yourself busy when you want to smoke. Eat candy, chew gum, something like that. Maybe even just try calling someone or talking to someone to get your mind off it you know? Try reminding yourself that if you can get through the next few minutes without it you won-t need it. You are stronger than the cigs, you just have to prove that to yourself, okay? :)

And actually if you need support or need to talk/vent to get your mind of stuff or smoking itself feel free to msg me anytime

MSN - Sing4themomentmm@hotmail.com
Just STOP. I managed to do it.
You need to change your outlook on smoking, remember when you first started smoking, when it tasted like crap, and you coughed your lungs out? But you kept telling yourself how great it was to smoke, and you patted yourself on the back for smoking?
You have to do the same thing when quitting, You have to pat yourself on the back every day that your not smoking, and be proud of it.
Have your parents hole you up in room for two weeks no smokin. play video games or something. I quit smoking by using nicotene gum and steel will. and a nagging wife/family
stop buying them
You actually can get most free help to stop smoking by yourself.

After all, the whole cessation process depends on your determination and motivation. Whenever you feel uncertain that you want to quit or you are show weakness in the face of the first serious craving, then nothing can assist you.
coffee
i quit 11 days ago
if you want to quit
drink coffee
it will help a lot
well everytime i had the urge to smoke i played video games...i kept very busy when i needed a smoke...so i wouldnt think of it..dont know if it will work for you but it worked for me
Just let it go. Tell your self you don-t need it over and over. I would cut down gradually before you quit, you won-t crave one as much.
At 14 I can-t imagine it-s very easy for you to obtain them. But just don-t get them anymore, it-s a lot of will power. After the first day, your body doens-t physically crave the nicotine anymore so it-s all will power after that. Try to keep yourself busy, buy candy, toothpicks, popsicles, whatever works for you. Eventually you won-t even feel the urge to smoke during triggers.
if you haven-t been smoking long then just chew gum and work out a lot to keep your mind off of smoking also stop hanging out with whatever friends got you into smoking in the first place. it-s totally not cool and it doesn-t make you more grown up i have a lung problem myself and trust me buddy you don-t want one of those you should be more respectful of your body and not take it for granted. it-s the only one you-ll get. but anyway if that-s all not enough my husband used the patch to quit smoking and he had been smoking for 12 years and it-s been 3 or 4 years now and he never has touched another cigarette, so they work pretty well. I-m not saying it will be easy but you can do it just be strong and hang in there and think about the good you-ll be doing for yourself, others, and the planet! you-ll be in my prayers. good luck.
Do you know what smoking can do to you as a teen? Teenagers who smoke are often bad at sports, don’t necessarily aspire to go to college and tend to skip class more. Many teens who smoke also start using other illegal drugs and they begin experimenting with alcohol. Statistics show that nicotine is considered the number one entrance drug leading into other drug abuse problems. So if you don-t want to be in more trouble, stop smoking now!
Get help to quit smoking at:

with free doctor consultation
how the heell do you get them?
Stop cold turkey. It is the only way--no patches or gum and definitely NO CHEW! Don-t wean yourself, just quit. If you wean, you are still giving your brain the chemicals. I forget the correct psychological term but you are still giving your brain what it wants speratically, and the only way to stop is cold turkey.
Just stop. Dont even think about smoking.
It-s really up to your mind on how much you want to push on kicking the habit. Its tough and everyone is different, many people will tell you many suggestions, but you only have to pick one for yourself and go with it. Life will go on for you. Keep it simple.

good luck
Hello Kyle.

I used sunflower seeds as a substitute an it helped immensely...that took care of the hand to mouth motion and gave me something to do with my mouth too. I ended up with sunflower seed shells everywhere...but I am still a non smoker 12 years later.

It-s only hard for a few days.

Chantix (Varenicline) quit smoking pill? -

Is there a site I can go to that will tell me what this pill is? I understand that it is suposed to help someone quit smoking. I know that it is suposed to make someone lose interest smoking. What I would like to know... Is it an antidepressent? How does it work? What does it effect in the brain? So far all I can find is how great it is but it doesn-t explain in detail. I tried to ask the doctor but she was in too much of a hurry to get out of the room. (I will be changing doctors.)
Leosphere is dead on about how the pill works. However, using the patch while taking Chantix isn-t necessary. Chantix blocks nicotine from binding to receptors in the brain, so you won-t feel the effects of the patch anyway. Also, I-d like to add that it only lessens the withdrawl systems, you-ll still suffer a bit for the first week or two.

This page will tell you exactly what it is and how it works.

http://www.chantix.com/content/prescribi…

Good luck to both of you! I quit 2 months ago with Chantix, so if you have any questions feel free to ask.
If you want to see how chantix ( varenicline ) works... i saw a website where it shows how it works showing a movie as a example showing chantix works.... Check out ---- http://www.varenicline.ws

Ive looked into this pill and look forward to taking it next month. basiclly what it does is it blocks the receptors in the brain that give you the pleasure of smoking. it works similar to an anti depressant but its not the same.

your body will already feel like you smoked. it mimics the sensation of nicotene so that you dont go through withdrawl(kind of)- nothing is perfect and in my own opinion.. a light nicotene patch mixed with the chantix.. and were home free... congratulations on making the first step... and i hope to join you in a smoke free life..
