I quit smoking three months ago now I crave sweets constantly, any suggestions on how to stop the cravings? -

I have plenty of veggies and fresh fruit and even nuts around to snack on. When I shop I avoid buying cookies and my favorite candies.
I buy jelly beans and other hard candy and gum lots of gum. Once in a while I even endulge in a Snickers candy bar. But nothing seems to help.
I eat a blanced diet but I-m still gaining weight. And keep looking for something sweet to eat.
Has anyone else had this problem if so how did you solve it.
First off... a big congratulations on quitting smoking!

Starting smoking again is NOT the answer! :0)

Although I can-t seem to kick my own smoking habit (yet)
I do know of an excellent support group that is moderated by health care professionals over at The Stop Smoking Center.

One of the forums topics that I think will be of great help is -Smoking Cessation and Weight Gain.- Support and advice on dealing with Weight-Gain after quitting smoking.

INFO FROM THE WEBSITE

Step 1. Sign up

Click the “Join Now” button in the upper right corner. We’ll ask you a few questions about yourself so we can give you the most helpful resources. A confirmation email will be sent to the email address you provided at registration. It contains your program password, so you may want to save or print the email for reference. Although your personal information is always kept strictly confidential, we encourage you to register with an anonymous email address.

Step 2. Connect with Other Quitters and our Health Educators

Once you-ve created an account you automatically have posting privileges in the online support group. Our Health Educators are also online to help with questions. Even if you don’t want to post messages right away, many quitters find it helpful to just read what others are experiencing. You can also use the online Instant Messenger to immediately communicate with your “Quitting Buddies” for support… like if you’re “dying” for a cigarette!

Step 3. Create Your Quit Plan (I know you-ve already quit - See Step 4)

Once you’re logged in, you also have access to all of the Quit Plan exercises to help you better understand your smoking. The more you know, the better chances you have of quitting. We recommend you start from the top, but you’re welcome to complete the exercises in any order. You can also come back and re-do the exercises at a later date or just review your results.

Step 4. Access Your Tools (Your quit meter will show the stats from your quit date to today... yahoo!!!)

Your account also gives you access to a helpful tools like a downloadable Quit Meter. The Quit Meter tracks all the money you’ve saved and life you’ve gained from quitting. You can also update your profile. For example, some people like to change their password. Also, you can create a profile and upload a picture for other members of the online support group. Finally, you can update or cancel your subscription to your support email and text messaging.

Step 5. Let Us Know How You’re Doing!

We want to make sure our program is as helpful as possible. Occasionally we-ll send you an invitation to give us your feedback and let us know how you are doing. Your feedback is very important and we appreciate your honest answers so we can improve the program for others.

P.S. When I have posted in the past I got responses almost immediately. It-s a great group of people who have quit and who are desperately trying to quit. Sometimes getting advice from people who have been there is the best.

Give it a try. :o)

Hope this helps. Congrats again - Wish you the BEST!

Any great ways to quit smoking? -

I have been smoking for 27 years now.I tried some ways to quit smoking for my family-s sake but couldn-t do it.I would keep away from it,say, for some 10days and again go to my old ways.Any innovative methods you could suggest me other than rehabilitation centers.
Well I-m 23 and i started smoking When I was 13. So i recently quit as of July 23rd. Cold turkey.. I was smoking up to a pack a day. I tried quitting 3 times before but failed. I had to stay away from my smoker friends and places i use to enjoy smoking ( bar/casion) for a week and a half. But what helped me the most were sunflower seeds. ( and before i quit i didnt enjoy chewing on seed much) But it became my habbit for about a month after i quit. It was neat though instead of buying a pack of ciggs for 4.00 i would buy a pack of seeds for a dollar. Well i hope this helps you.. GOOD LUCK..
Well, if you-re doing it for your family, that-s great. Do it for yourself, too. 10 days is a very long time. What is it that made you go back? Figuring that one out will help alot.

Make your home and car smoke free. One smoker I know cut down drastically this way.

Trying the gum, or the patch might work, and there are prescribed pills you can take, too.

Or you could focus on all the money the tobacco owners get from you (and no, you will NEVER catch them smoking!). And think of all the money you will save yourself in medical bills down the road. Smoking not only causes disease, but complicates other diseases as well.

1000 milligrams of timed release vitamin C will definitely help. So will a 100mg vitamin B and 200mg of vitamin E.

Do it for your own health. You will be much more comfortable in your old age. Once you quit, your body works on repairing the damage caused by smoking.

It-s sooooo much better than doing it when you have no other choice but to quit because you can-t move from your hospital bed.......
You may want to check out a book called ALLEN CARR-S EASY WAY TO STOP SMOKING. I bought a copy a while ago for about ten bucks. There is a copy that comes with two c.d-s.The writer was a heavy smoker that does not believe in substituions but really addresses the head trip involved in addiction. Good Luck
think about this: every pack of cigarettes takes 2 1/2 hrs of ur life. that is 5 seconds of every puff. look on websites to get fully commited

How can I convince my father to quit smoking ? -

He is smoking over two packs a day!
make a packet up of pictures of what smoking can do to him and tell him u want him to be around for a long time because u luv him! i worked for me! good luck!
My mother is the same way. She just was in the hospital because of smoking, and yet she bought a pack as soon as she got out....Simply ask him, if he wants to live to see you get married, or if he wants grandchildren one day, or all the money he would save not smoking and not having doctors appointments in the future. Google the pro-s of quitting. I personally suggest trying the Commit lozenges.
ask him if he likes you and if he will say yes then ask him if he doesnt want to stop smoking for you! if he wants to live long, and tell him how much money he could save if he would stop smoking! maybe it would help! good luck!
ive been trying for years now and it hasn-t worked!

I have smoked a pack a day for a year. I always smoke full flavor and I-m wondering if I cut down to lights, then cut down on my amount if this would be easier and easier. Did nicotine patches work?
just try to cut it drastically. i mean, when you get up one day, think of stopping right there and then.
it might be hard, but i think it-s the same thing in other situations wherein you should make a decision real fast--like cutting something with a knife. fast and sharp.
chew on sugarless gum instead.
Pfizer has put out a medicine called Nicotrol. It-s basically a pipe with a nicotine capsule in it. You don-t light it up , but you do inhale the nicotine through it when you -need - to. I-ve watched an elderly 50 year smoker drop the habit, and he-d told me at one point he-d never quit. So, if you can ,visit a Doctor and ask them about it.
The best way it to quit -cold turkey-, just give it up. Don-t waste your money on all the -stop smoking junk-, JUST Quit!
Id say,,chew gum or smoke filterless~I call them-chokes- because they are so nasty that you wont want to smoke them or,,what works for me is,,when you want a smoke,,set it down - say,,Ill wait a few minutes. That will help you to smoke less.lol.
think of everyone you love in your life-imagine their faces, the way they look at you when they smile as you arrive somewhere-and imagine how their faces are going to change when they are standing at the hospital as you go through cancer...then as your body is hoisted into the ground at your funeral.
don-t you owe it to them to take care of yourself?
NOW
cold turkey - most effective way.
start going to light cigarettes first, and you have to really want to quit smoking .. be determined.. i have found nicotine patches to be helpful.. but it is a hard habit to break..with patches your body does not want nicotine but it is a habit.. you would have to keep busy and try to do other things , like suck on candy, chewing on a straw .the stronger the patch worked ok for me but the lower strength did not help me..it helps to avoid being around anyone that is smoking for awhile.. try not to eat to much because it does make you very nervous and it seems you are always wanting to reach for a cigarette.. there are some rough moments but just be determined.
By chewing gums continuously.
regain yr will power thru MEDITATION,easy and best method.
The following will work for you. You don-t even need good luck.
Local hospitals offer week-long programs to make you quit smoking. Then you-ll need this trick to not go back to it: Don-t have that one cigarette for the rest of your life!
People buckle under the intense urge for a cigarette and think that their problem will go away with one cigarette. But that just makes the problem go away temporarily, only to come back with a higher intensity.
Quitting smoking feels like a loss of a loved one because to the brain it is just that - a loved one. So be prepared for the longing and the pain. Just endure it. It won-t kill you. Actually, it will make you live longer.
Adapt a new lifestyle i.e. eat fruits, go jogging, etc. Do whatever, but once you have gone through the week-long quit-smoking program, DON-T HAVE THAT ONE CIGARETTE NO MATTER WHAT. If you have that one cigarette, you fail and if you don-t then you succeed. It is that simple. You do need that week-long program to launch yourself into the wonderful world of non-smoking though.
One more thing: you may need to keep the company of non-smokers for a while i.e. at least one year.
Just think of some one who u love, who would be happy if u quit smoking.Do quit smoking for them. For ur loved ones.
YOU have to WANT to quit. that is the first step... Second is you have to decide that you WILL quit. and third you have to JUST QUIT. I smoked anywhere from a half a pack to two packs a day from the time I was 12 till I was 28. I tried the patch and to cut down and I even tried to go as strong as I could where I wouldnt want to smoke lol I just got used to it. In the end it was COLD TURKEY that worked for me... the first four weeks are the hardest... then after that its nothing.... well not nothing cuz every once in a while I have a craving (less often the longer im quit) to light up.

Note you will need something to release your stress on... my suggestion is a bike, walk or something physical.
The best way is always difficult...no matter what kind of cigar you use, still it-s bad for your health. Try to lessen the number of sticks you-re consuming per day until you could really quit on it. Quit smoking slowly. It would be hard for you if you-ll quit at once. Instead of using nicotine patches, try menthol candies..
Statistically speaking, the best way to quit is through combination therapy. The best combination for quitting seems to be Zyban and the patch. Zyban is actually an anti-depressant known as wellbutrin or bupropion that has the side effect of making you feel like crap when you have a cigarette. The patch will help you ease through physical symptoms and the Zyban will help you through mental cues. Zyban is prescription only, but it works fairly well. Some people will even use the gum with both of these for quick fixes. From personal experience, cold turkey is really difficult, Zyban helped the most and I used the gum for cravings. I went off the Zyban after about 2 months when I felt ready. Good luck.

Ex Smokers only!!! How did you you quit smoking? -

please give me all the tips. How much trouble you had in your life. How much did you smoker. Do you still have craving. How is your life now being a non smoker.
I smoked around 4 or 5 pack of 30-s a week. I tried cold turkey, patches etc but found I was too moody and got upset very quickly so I would end up taking it back up. I went the to doctors 9 months ago and got -Champix- tablets. I had no side effects at all besides feeling a little nausea straight after taking the tablet occasionally. Within 14 days I-d given up smoking, simply because a) you don-t feel like a smoke because there-s nothing there to tell you to have it - b) the smoke had no effect at all - no taste, nothing. Right now (9 months on), it honestly feels like I never smoked before, I-ve never had a craving even after stopping the 12 week course of tablets. My understanding is that -Champix- is the only smoking aid that stops the cravings because it blocks that part of the brain that is asking for nicotine. I also live in a household with 4 other smokers and it hasn-t crossed my mind to pick up a smoke even in really stressful situations. The only time that is was difficult was over the Christmas period when I had a few days of drinking, because you kind of know that usually you-d be smoking, but that was a mental thing, not a craving need to actually have a smoke. Its brilliant.
i quit by looking at the amount of money i spent over the amount of time i had spent smoking and decided on a number of better things i could use it for. my quality of a life as a non-smoker hasnt really changed, but people have noticed. i rarely have cravings but i have a very strong bit of will power so i can get away from things easily.

i recommend that you shouldnt try to stop your addiction with a different one, find something about it that turns you off. if you can trick yourself into thinking its a negative thing you-ll never want to see it again
Cold turkey ... the only way. I was teaching a martial arts class. One day after an exhausting drill, my students regained their breath before me. When I walked out of the class I threw the cigarettes in the trash ... in front of the students. Anytime I had the craving ... I remembered the difficulty I had breathing and reminded myself of the struggle that lung cancer patient face. Yes .. my sister (a non smoker) lost that battle.
I tried all the medical options but none of them worked. After 15 years of smoking and many failed attempts it was tootsie pops that worked. I went through a box of 100. Everytime I wanted a smoke I had one of those. It gave me the same type of oral satisfaction as smoking. Unfortunately I ended up with 3 cavities on one side of my mouth but it was better than the thought of possibly getting cancer or lung disease. It-s been almost 8 years now and I am smoke free. I can-t even stand the smell of smoke now. You also have to treat it like alcoholism. Not even a drag ever again.
Good luck!
I quit cold turkey after college. I moved back in with my parents and knew my mother would drive me insane with her nagging if I smoked.
Of course when my brother moved back in she let him smoke. 20 years later he still does. I used to think he was the lucky one but he can-t quit.
just made up my mind went cold turkey took 1 day at a time. i smoke close to 5 pack a day the cost help took close to a year to get over the craving good luck feel a lot better
My late uncle quit by eating sunflower seeds. He used to get big bags of them. They made his tongue raw but it worked.

The reason I dont want to spend money on it is b/c I dont want to feel selfish about it b/c its nobody`s fault but my own that I started smoking to begin with.Any suggestions?
Give yourself a pedicure, do your nails ...

I honestly think you should splurge on something
that is an accomplishment!
Print a nice diploma
Wow, you have a guilt complex. If I ever quit for two weeks I won-t have a big problem buying something. But accountability is weak in the world these days so I commend you for it.

Do something you like to do whether it costs money or not. Or something that you like to do that doesn-t cost money. You can go anywhere now because you don-t smoke, so go somewhere you wouldn-t have gone before because you had to smoke, like the movies.

And get this question off as soon as possible because it-s going to draw about a zillion -have a cigarette- responses.
Smoke a victory square.

Hypnotism. I know many people have quit smoking that way, but has anybody ever heard of quitting drinking? -

that way? My friend insists that it would work the same way and I am a skeptic. I-d love to hear from people who have experienced successful hypnotism. She said she would love to lose the desire to drink and says it is just like an addiction to tabacco and if those who quit smoking (lose the desire to smoke) with hypnotism help can probably lose the desire to drink with the same method. Your thoughts?
Huh! Of course. Change your focus to what you desire. Cigaretttes are presumed to be addictive, alcohol was traditionally not so much- hence the emphasis on needing tobbac. But hypnosis by breaking a chain of causality can really work (for some) Personally I sat through 2 sessions of hypnosis and didn-t go under...

I have the gum, which helps. I was wondering if anyone knew of anything other than eating can help take away the cravings.
actually folks in support groups use a method we call the 5d-s to deal with craving..

1 Distract, that is do something else.. cant wash dishes and smoke at the same time for instance..

2. Delay.. ( i don-t need one now).. continued delays = a quit!!

3 Discuss, you just did that by asking the question.. support group people might call other members on the phone or im a friend..

4 deep breath most smokers only take a deep breath when inhaling..

5 drink water.. yep it relieves the urge and flushes the body..

you might note i have talked about support groups i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally, and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer.. and you can attend before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit, good luck there is simply, no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Tom,

Due to the unpleasantness of the withdrawal symptoms, many people who try to quit smoking end up replacing the cigarettes with some other type of addiction. This may be an addiction to prescription medication, such as sleeping tablets or tranquilizers, or an addiction to food. While you will definitely experience the health benefits of giving up nicotine, no one wants to replace one addiction with another!

A healthy diet, adequate exercise as well as natural and holistic treatments such as acupuncture, massage and herbal and homeopathic remedies can also help the smoker overcome nicotine addiction. Herbal and homeopathic treatments are a safe and effective means to reduce nicotine cravings (without giving you more nicotine) and will also help to prevent weight gain and alleviate anxiety and irritability. Basically, natural and holistic treatments not only lessen the urge to smoke, but also help you to restore balance in your body.

There are a number of ingredients such as Avena sativa, Garcinia cambogia and Gotu Cola (Centella asiatica) which will help to address the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. They reduce nicotine cravings and balance the mood.

You may get detailed info on quite a few of these on the source link below
Hi Tom, I believe that the secret to quit smoking, is not to quit, but to start smoking a healthy cigarette.

Why is it that when you quit smoking you gain weight regardless.? -

I quit smoking 4 months ago and have gained 30 pounds, but I feel like I am not eating more. I just keep gaining.
Hey Annie, sometimes it feels like you are not eating much yet you will actually be eating much more than during your smoking period. Just try and list down what you are eating now and compare with what you used to eat if you can remember.

The reason for weight gain is that smoking suppresses your appetite in addition to damaging sense of smell and taste. Once your body gets a chance to flush out toxins that cause these things you will find an increased craving fort food and increased appetite.

A good way to handle the eating demands of your body leading to weight control is to eat fruits as much as you can whenever the cravings comes outside of meals. In fact you can carry around a food pack with assorted fruits for that purpose.

Also investigate more on herbs. They are a number of herbs used when people quit smoking which satisfactorily help in controlling weight gain. It-s a natural treatment and has no side effects or any further chemicals nor toxins.

all the best. good health!

How do you go about quit smoking pot? -

How do you go about quit smoking pot? -

This person has been smoking pot for 25 years on a regular basis. It has become who they are, it defines their personality. This is their 3rd day pot-free. What are we looking at emotionally and physically?
Is there anything that helps this transition?
We believe in the power of prayer. Other than that what can you do to make this easier?
Marijuana is not chemically addictive, so you are looking at purely psychological and emotional issues here. 25 years of use is a long time. Long term use like that usually leads to clinical depression. So in reality, most of what the person will be experiencing is the clinical depression.

Honestly, in my opinion the person should be seeing a doctor, preferably a mental health professional while going through this. Clinical depression is a real problem that may needs other meds to be corrected. Its even possible that over the years he was already depressed and self medicating with the marijuana (even if the person didnt know that, its possible). However, marijuana only works short term for that, and long term actually causes worse depression. Now that they dont have the marijuana, the depression symptoms may start croping up, if they havent already. Even if the person doesnt need meds, a professional can help them work through this period of time in a healthy way. At the very least they need to join a support group.

need to not hang out with friends who stil have the pot lifestyle. Avoid situations that lead to smoking. It is good to count the days of sobriety. 3 days becomes 4 then 5 then 45 then 545 etc. This means setting and keeping the goal of staying sober.
for me i took a while to get use to it but i just put other stuff in place like working out or doing other stuff so that i wouldn-t have time to do it or alot of sex that will work

What was the withdrawl like? how long did it last? and did you feel better afterwards, and more energy?
It felt amazing, Well not at first. I used the patch for 3 weeks. Then after that I had no urge at all to smoke and i smoked 2 packs a day. I quit 3 months ago and i feel so much better. I don-t cough anymore or smell like smoke. My sense of smell came back after a month and i can actually taste food now. Withdrawel really only lasted about a week after that it was much better.
I have to admit AR that i felt like crap! A guy at the drug store told me about http://youcanquit.notlong.com which really helped with the withdrawal and cravings and weight gain.

What is the easy way to you to quit smoking, Ive tried everything except cold turkey!!!HELP? -

Cold turkey is the best way to quit but make preparations before your quit - keep a daily log for about a week of when you smoke, how much you smoke, and what makes you want a cigarette. Plan a quit day - then throw all your cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays, etc away. Then change your routine - if you tend to smoke after eating then take a walk instead, if you tend to smoke when you are driving your car (my car wouldn-t start until I lit a cigarette) then sing along with the radio. Plan ahead! Let everyone know you are quitting and have a buddy you can call when the urge to smoke hits so that they can take your mind off of it. When you do feel the urge to smoke just remember - the urge will pass whether you smoke or not (choose not to smoke). 20 minutes after you have stopped smoking your blood pressure decreases and your pulse rate drops, after 8 hours the carbon monoxide levels drop to normal and your oxygen level in your blood increases to normal, after 24 hours you chance of heart attack decreases, after 48 hours your ability to smell and taste improves, etc.
Cold Turkey.
I just quit, and I think I was ready, I had gone a few days without smoking because I was on a trip with my family (who didn-t know) and I just decided to test myself and kept going. Then after about two weeks I actually made the conscious decision to quit. Before that it was just me telling myself -I-ll quit after this pack- or -Today is my last day of smoking- I never actually succeeded until I was ready. That-s the real key.
If you-ve tried everything but cold turkey then the answer should be obvious to you. Just DON-T smoke...?
to start you have to want to quit.....cold turkey is the best way...i did it...don-t wait until it is a have to situation.....
You answered your own question and you will only gain weight if you replace your cigarettes with food, its your tendency or need to create a habit to compensate for a lack of something you need, replacing something you are lacking that is the problem, perhaps it is peace with yourself that you lack.
How I quit smoking.

This was actually much harder than I thought it would be. Here’s what I did that helped me quit.

1. slowed down slowly – I counted how many cigs I smoked in a day on average, then took one away every week.

2. smell that smell – One of the reasons I wanted to quit is because everything I owned smelled like old cigs. So whenever I finished a cig I would smell my hands and remind myself how much I dislike stale cig smell.

3. busy bee – I used to smoke when I was bored. In order to stop that I made hemp necklaces and beaded stuff. It kept my hands busy and helped my think of the pattern I was working on rather then my next smoke.

4. count the money – When I smoked, my brand was $2.50 a box on sale. I couldn’t afford my habit, so I wanted to quit. I took the $ I would have spent on cigs and went to lunch twice a week, I even bought a new shirt at the end of the month with the $ I saved.
There is this product it-s called smoke free that you have to smell wich makes the next cigarette you smoke taste awful, you can find it at your local pharmacy or online I don-t remember where I bought it for my grandad but it worked wonders!
I f you can-t find it in your location then you could go here:
http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/news/QuitSmok…

and no you will lose more weight when you quit smoking.
Goodluck!
well we thought my mama wouldn-t stop smoking and she had been smoking all her life.Well she went to rehab classes everyday now going on 2 months she haven-t smoke since then.I mean it-s a reason why everyone who smoke smoke.Either need someone to talk to,stress, depress, etc.just something they want to relieve off they chest and don-t know how to so they smoke to calm their self down or to keep their mind off the something they are going through.but try to talk to someone who is willing to listen to your problems or try counseling better yet try rehab and see if it fits you.
COLD TURKEY!!! u have 2 do it is the best way...but the first three days will b rlly hard and after that u wont even notic anymore so just get thro the first 3 datys and ur good, good luck

I want to quit smoking and im not sure i can do it cold turkey. Any suggestions? -

I know there are drugs but not sure what the best one is.
chantex worked for me!!
First off, congratulations for WANTING to quit smoking!!

As far as answering, there are a lot of ways, and it also depends on how much you-ve been smoking. The best ways are slowly lowering your dose (takes a long time sometimes), or going cold turkey (which is faster, but harder). Either way, the last thing is making the decision to quit, so you-ll eventually have to deal with the withdrawal.

For the most part, when you deal with withdrawal, you-ll just have to tough it out, but there are some things that can help cleanse out the toxins and may help to minimize some of the effects of withdrawal...
Drinking water will help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it-s not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).

All that being said, it-s likely that the symptoms should stop relatively shortly after your last smoke (it-s never as long as it feels like it is). Your neurotransmitters don-t take too terribly long to scream for something they are addicted to after you stop.
Another important thing to note is that no matter how bad it gets, taking more of the drug (and yes, nicotine is a drug) will only make the withdrawal last longer and will be harder on you in the long run. Good luck, and congrats again!

Don-t feel bad about not being able to quit through going cold turkey or by cutting down. These methods don-t work because they give nicotine the power, not the other way around. The vast majority will fail to quit using these methods.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

I personally don-t trust any quit smoking method that deals only with physical nicotine addiction. Drugs especially because they have many side effects and are potentially dangerous. I wouldn-t go near them.

All that you require is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
i personally dont smoke but i know tons of people that do so my advice to u is dont do it cold Turkey slowly ween yourself from it and every time u get stressed or worried and think oh my god i want a smoke right now take a big deep breath and than slowly exhale it and it might come u or try biting on a cinnemine Cinnamonn u can buy them at the regular stor and the have the same efect as smoking!!
If you want to try quitting drug free, try this. Keep a sheet of paper in your cigarette pack and document every time you smoke. Put the time, what you were doing, and the reason why you are choosing to smoke. Find out the activities you do most often and change them/the time of day, etc. You will also find that the reasons are really dumb too. It helps when trying to break ANY habit, not just smoking.
Yes this is a hard one if you feel you have to go cold turkey!
I would suggest the self-help EFT approach.A Free download (manual) on how to do it, you can find below and is based on acupuncture WITHOUT the needles.
It worked for hundreds op people:-)
I quit cold turkey about 7 years ago. It-s not to bad. I was really cranky for about two weeks and ate more than usual. But, after a couple of weeks I could tell such a big difference in my breathing. You-ll feel 80% better once you quit smoking. Keep busy...
Don-t quit cold turkey. Slow cut back. That way you don-t drive yourself crazy wanting a cigarette all of the time. You ween yourself off at your own pace. Then the following week you drop a little more. Until you are smoke free.
Chantex is the best quit smoking drug out. Talk to your doctor about it. It help me quit with no problems
I want to quit smoking and im not sure i can do it cold turkey. Any suggestions? -

I am desperate to lose weight and to quit smoking, hate both of the habits, but short of using a -system- like Jenny Craig or Nutrisystems, or having surgery (can-t afford either option), I don-t know what to do. I have no will power, no matter how much I truly want to lose weight and quit smoking. So somebody please, tell me that it has worked for you and how you went about finding an hypnotherapist.
It did work for me....but I was trying to get rid of my habit...biting my nails
My treatment worked, and it wasn t all that expensive. I definitely suggest hypnotherapy...Google a highly sought after hypnotherapist=better quality and you know hes not scamming you
Tried hyponsis, I think its a scam.
iv neva don it b 4,

good luck!!
its all in your head. im the same as you beleive me ive been trying to loose weight ever since i had my baby which is 7 months and im still the same weight its so hard for me i hate excersice and love to eat so i just depress my self thats why now i dont even think about loosing weight im just eating less and ive seen results.
the key is too eat less and no junk food.
Well, ultimately there is no silver bullet for either, and actually there is a lot of data out there that suggests you are at your greatest risk of GAINING weight when you stop smoking.

They had a -Bullshit!- episode on hypnosis (I know, I know, take it with a grain of salt!) which said that hypnosis could boost your chances of quitting. At the very least, it might have some psychosomatic effect if you BELIEVE it works (which, come to think of it is 9/10 of hypnosis anyways). But the bottom line is that it-s all you now.

My advice is to try to find a routine that gets you off those habits. Avoid being around cigarettes if possible, walk when you can instead driving or taking an elevator...all that kind of stuff. Wow, I am preachy today...

What are the immediate and long term advantages of quit smoking? -

Need to know the fact from a person who really quit smoking and had been benfitting for no smoking
Short-term effects of smoking include a significant increase in heart rate and a drop in skin temperature. Respiration rate is also increased. In novice smokers, diarrhea and vomiting may occur. Although the central nervous system is, in fact, stimulated by smoking, smokers usually feel it relaxes them.

Long-term effects are mainly on the bronchopulmonary and cardiovascular systems. Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer (related to 90% of all lung cancer cases). Other factors - notably industrial carcinogens (e.g. asbestos) - may be involved, especially among smokers. An average smoker is 10 times more likely to get lung cancer than a non-smoker.

Smoking is estimated to be responsible for 30% of all cancer deaths. It is also associated with cancers of the mouth, throat, colon, pancreas, bladder, kidneys, stomach, and cervix, and related to 75% of chronic bronchitis cases and 80% of emphysema cases.

Tobacco also affects the digestive system - gastric and duodenal ulcers are twice as common and twice as likely to cause death in smokers as in non-smokers. Skin wounds may heal less quickly in smokers, partly because smoking depletes the body of vitamin C. Smokers may also have less effective immune systems than non-smokers.

Tobacco use is associated with 25% to 30% of all cardiovascular disease. Smokers have a 70% higher rate of coronary heart disease than non-smokers (it is the major smoking-related cause of death), nearly twice the risk of heart attack, and five times the risk of stroke.

The damaging effects of smoking are often increased by other factors: for example, the heavy use of such other drugs as alcohol with tobacco increases the risk of both tobacco-related cancer and other diseases of the heart and blood vessels.
+-+-+-+-+-+
after your last cigarrete your body will heal itself you can escape getting lung and blood and heart diseases and prevent dying.
good luck hope this person quits
also talk to a doctor
Immediate: health
Long term: life
What is the immediate and long term gain if you don-t quit smoking.

Can i repair(regain)muscle fat or tissue if i quit smoking and drinking? -

Alright. I can actually answer this one because I am a Respiratory Therapist and I work at Pulmonary rehabilitation facility and this is our goal. Heres the honest truth. You will never be able to repair anything that is damaged when smoking. Things in th body will get better but they will never completely go back to normal. Heres exactly what would happen if you quit smoking right now.

20 minutes after quitting…
blood pressure and pulse rates drop to normal, and temperature to hands and feet return to normal.

8 hours after quitting…
carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal and oxygen level increases.

24 hours after quitting…
the chance of heart attack decreases.

2 weeks-3 months after quitting…
circulation improves and lung function increases up to 30%.

1-9 months after quitting…
coughing, sinus congestion, fatigue and shortness of breath decrease; cilia regain normal function in the lungs, increasing the ability to handle mucus, clean the lungs and reduce infection.

1 year after quitting…
The chance of having a heart attack is cut in half.

5 years after quitting…
stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker.

10 years after quitting…
lung cancer death rate is about half that of a continuing smoker’s. Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney. And pancreas decreases.

15 years after quitting…
coronary heart disease risk is that of a nonsmoker.

What u could do to help regain and repair that muscle is do free wights 5lbs. Exhale as you come up. Inhale through your nose as you come down. Do 20 tims every other day. Also if possible, walk a treadmill for 20 minutes or ride a stationary bike SLOWLY for 20 minutes alongside the weights every other day. Within 4 weeks you will notice an incredible difference in your body, attitude, and breathing. Hope this helps:) Tissue always reproduces on a daily basis and Fat does not go just because you are smoking.
I have heard that if you quit smoking your lungs will clean them selves in seven months but I-m not sure but it can-t hurt good luck quiting Hipnouses worked for me till I lost my wife and two children in a fire.
To much drinking is a toxin, to much smoking robs your body of clear lungs. If you quit smoking for starters, and limit your drinking to just a few on the weekends then you need to start a good workout routine. You must be patient may take a few months for you to see a huge difference it is worth it...Good luck...
Depends on how much and how long you-ve been smoking and drinking. For instance, a 40 year old who-s been doing both for 20 years isn-t likely to regain tissue in the same way because the collagen under the skin isn-t right. You certainly can regain muscle tissue however.

What to do to quit smoking from new year 2007? -

There are many different methods that can help you quit smoking. The best way is cold turkey - just stopping all together. The first three days are the hardest, but if you can get past that, it gets easier. You have to have a lot of self-control, I quit for a year this way, but even a year later I continued to crave cigarettes. There-s products like gum that you can chew and patches you can wear to help you quit. I-ve never tried the patches, but the gum didn-t work for me. It clearly states on the box that there isn-t nicotine in the gum, and it tastes horrible. If I had believed there was nicotine in the gum, it may have worked, but that was not the case. The coolest thing I-ve seen is ear staples. It-s a procedure that you can get done, where they put tiny staples on a certain part of your ear, which is a reflection point. The pressure from the staples activates a neuron in your brain that erases the cravings. These staples are also good for stress relief, migraines, and weight loss. A friend of mine told me about them, and if she hadn-t, I wouldn-t have even noticed that she had them.
Believe in yourself that you can do quit smoking by 2007...lessen the no. sigarettes per day and later you could skeep smoking already..no more no less
i say, first u cant quit it all..so go step wise..if u smoke 10 per day, lets say, then every day try reducing 1..tht way ur body will; also get acustomed and u wont feel the trouble..
Theres a cigarette out thats called Quest. It comes in 3 strenghs. The first being the strongest and the 3rd has no nicotine at all. I know several people that have quit smoking using these. All 3 of my brothers have quit this way also. There available here at speedway gas stations.
The first thing is that you have to really want to stop. If you are trying to stop because of someone else, you will not succeed. If it really is for -you-, you need to change habits of other things that you normally do when you are smoking. Don-t buy any and try to stay away from other smokers for atleast a few days, this will make it a lot easier. Good luck to you!
Hypnosis
First you have to tell yourself that you can quite smoking from now. Keep telling it until it register in your mind. Next, tell your friends that you are going to quit smoking. Ask god to help quit smoking.
You may not be from NYState, but this is a very informative and supporting site. If you are not from NYState, your State might have a similar site. There is also the American Lung Association.

And it SUCKS that I actually need to SAY this, but please no answers from people who haven-t been smokers, i.e. -I don-t need to quit cuz I don-t smoke!-

Thanks
I found my reason to quit - every time i needed/wanted/craved a smoke I would focus on why I was quiting. I could only do it cold turkey - I had tried the gum and patches but they were no help - I didnt have a problem with the physical addiction, it was the action and the feeling that was difficult to get over.
I carried around a pencil for a long time and would flick it when I wasnt doing anything or when I would normally light up just to continue the movement. It took a few months before I started to feel less and less need to smoke. I still feel it now occasionally but I am able to control it without a huge amount of effort. Its a hard thing to over come - good luck.
Do some research on electronic cigarettes. Some say that using electronic cigarettes can help you quit smoking. Currently there is no scientific evidence for or against it. One option is to gradually lower the level of nicotine in your cartridges to become nicotine and tobacco free.

The other option is to smoke electronic cigarettes with zero nicotine cartridges while applying nicotine patches. That way you separate addiction and habit.

Good Luck! It-s not easy ...

I agree with the above. I wasn`t addicted at all. It was just fun in a way I guess. I usually only smoked at work, in my car, or if I was drinking because it was something to do. I quit because I`m asthmatic and I have no health insurance so I had to stop to save money for meds. I also stopped because it sometimes made me feel sick after I smoked and I got into a relationship with this guy and I didn`t want to smell like cigarettes in my hair or on my clothes. Plus my friends dad just died from tracheotic cancer because he smoked like 2 or 3 packs a day :( I`ll have a smoke once in a while but it`s rare and the cravings aren`t bad anymore. Just find a good reason to quit and keep reminding yourself.
I confined myslef in the corner with chicken noodle soup and ate it and whenever i wanted to smoke i cut myself.

I am going to quit smoking cold turkey. I would just like a heads up on the first things I will have to go through and deal with during the process. I would appreciate any advice from anyone, especially anyone who has quit smoking and stuck with it.
THe first thing you-ll deal with is that you-ll really, really want a smoke. The mental part is harder than the physical.
Don-t quit. You are going to die quicker. Smoking gives you great abs!
your answer is in my sources
