Can Anyone help me find a way to quit smoking? -

Ive been trying to quit for 2months now and i just can-t i get to the second day and i just give into cravings I tried wellbutrin and that didn-t work. I need to quit. plz help
Did you take wellbutrin appropriately? My doctor told me to take it wrong...she said to take the pills and quit immediately; I couldn-t. Then, my daughter-s grandpa was quitting smoking with the same stuff and he was having success. We were talking about it and he said you were supposed to keep smoking for at least 2 weeks after starting the pills. It has been 7 years that I have been quit now so I can-t remember exactly how to take the pills, but I know you take a certain dose for one or two weeks then you double your dose. After doubling the dose, cigarettes started to feel ineffective and I smoked more; then they started tasting gross and so I started smoking less. Of course you do have to put some effort into it and choose not to smoke when it is tasting gross. Within the first month of taking the pills you are supposed to pick a quit date...closer to the end of the month rather then the beginning. Then as that date is approaching you are consciously cutting back. Then you stop on your quit day. I have to say, it was a bit uncomfortable but so no where near the discomfort I experienced when I tried to quit smoking during the first week of taking the pill. I used mints to substitute for cigarettes (for something to do). I made it through day one and each day was easier. The hardest thing is to change your mindset with your lifestyle. The desire stays for a long time, but with effort and determination, you can do it! I smoked for most of my life. I smoked my first cigarette when I was 6 (my sis thought it was funny to see her lil sis smoke) and I began smoking regularly at 11. I quit when I was 28. I had periodically quit smoking (when i was pregnant), but nothing lasted more than several months. Since I used wellbutrin, I have never had another cigarette since the day I decided to give up smoking. It has been 7 years! There are other ways to quit and none are simple, but with motivation and will power you can do it! You are stronger than you think! Don-t let yourself talk you down when you are having a craving. The first day really is the hardest as far as cravings go. Once you have been quit a week you won-t want to start again because you will feel wealthy! I remember thinking where did I get all this money from!!?? You just don-t realize how much you are wasting until you quit. Talk to your doctor who can offer you suggestions on other methods to quit. Smoking puts you at risk for cancer. Not just lung cancer but many types of cancer. Quit now and in 10 years your risk will be the same as a nonsmoker! Good Luck; I know it is hard, but you can do it. Be strong!!!
Buy some subliminal cds on quitting smoking. It stopped my friend Ron from smoking since 1988. It is now 2007 and he is still not smoking.

You can also go to hypnotherapy.

Good luck!
You will be successful as soon as you decide that -you- are in charge. Stop cold turkey. It is the best way. I know of that which I speak. Good Luck.
think of something you really like/admire/respect.. and try to use it as your inspiration to quit, u know its bad, smoking will lead to very bad things, so just quit, think of your loved ones who dont smoke, try to txt, chew gum, come here, pick up another hobby, get some pro help. just really stay commited, and good luck to you
1.Do some exercise
2.Drink more (liquers)
read a book like me and so many other people I know (and millions I don-t know)

it-s entitled -Allen Carrs Easy Way To Stop Smoking-

trust me it works, no gimmicks, no weight gains, no nothing, just freedom and the abilty to become a nonsmoker

I only smoke on the weekends now. Try going it for a week and reward yourself on the weekend and then stare Monday in the face. It-s all in your mind.
Go to your doctor and get a prescription for Chantix. It is awesome. I quit with ease after 25 yrs. of smoking. Don-t give up!
I don-t smoke, but:

Have you looked into ear stapling?
Hmm.. are there any away from home treatment centers for this addiction? Might be a good investment if you look at how much it will cost you (finacial and life quality) the rest of your life to continue smoking.
I tried everything from hypnosis to accupuncture, without success. Here is what worked for me and very painless. Use the patch, according to the directions, and go through all the recommended steps. If you smoked alot as I did, then also buy the 1 mg. box of gum. You will get urges even with the patch. I bit one of the gum squares in half and chewed that when the urge was too uncomfortable. I only needed that extra support for a few weeks. Then the patch was fine. However, even after you get done with the patch a craving will hit and be really hard not to give into. I keep that gum with me always, just to be sure I never have a weak moment and give in again. This system worked easy, and you can do it!
The newest drug is called Chantix and works wonders. See your family doctor for a prescription. Good luck.
Drink green tea! It helps my bf to quit his 15 years of smoking addiction! Green tea would also help to rejuvenate your internal system as well as clarify your outer skin complexion =)
Try this: do not come into contact with tobacco, smoking accessories, or smoke, even if second hand.
Just stop and don-t do it. even if you get cravings.
If you were a really healthy smoker, it-s going to be more difficult than just telling yourself to quit. You need some help. Either try nicotine gum, or the patches or something similar. Your body will go crazy if you just take the nicotine completely out of your system so fast, because if you have smoked a lot, you are mentally and physically addicted.

Talk to your doctor, see what they recommend.

And, good luck. Good for you for making a healthy lifestyle change. :)
Accupuncture, hypnosis
just quite--simple--do it
I quit 20 years ago after a scare..this is how my doctor made me list all your dead family and friends with there ages and how they died smoker non smoker. my father 2 packs aday age 50 my grandfather 62 2 packs the oldest my grand mother 95 non smoker all the rest smokers none went past age 70.. make sence
Find something else to do. Some you really enjoy.

Hang out with friends, paint, go watch a movie, chew gum.

I-ve found that when people quit smoking, they need to get their mind off of it either with a nicotine fix or with a new, yet somewhat healthier addiction like foods. I think occupying your mouth with some other enjoyable thing might help fight off the cravings.

For example, my uncle is an avid smoker, but when he isn-t smoking, he chews A LOT of Wrigley-s gum.
my Dr. told me to smoke my normal amount the first day but count them, then she said each week to smoke one less, she says it takes awhile but that it weans the body off the cig. without withdrawals and cravings!

Should I really quit smoking cigarettes? -

I only smoke a couple of individual cigarettes a day or so.... do I really want to quit?
-but I don-t really want to quit-

You don-t have to quit if you don-t want to, and there is no problem with smoking in moderation if you enjoy it (and two per day is pretty small)

But it is best for your health if you do. If your not keen on quiting, there are plenty of other things you can do to improve your health. Remember that as a smoker it is especially important you have a healthy diet, including large amounts of vitamins A - C (smoking reduces the effects of these vitamins). Also eat plenty of cruciferous vegetables like lettece, caulifower and brocolli as these will reduce your risk of lung cancer (see
http://www.medscape.com/Viewarticle/5839…
for details). And of course excercise can reduce your heart attack danger, and help increase your lung capacity.

One good way to decide is to take the questionares for lung cancer and heart diesease on the website your diesease risk (
http://www.yourdieseaserisk.wustl.edu/
) linked to the Washington school of medicine. Even though I smake about the same amount as you, the website tells me my risk of lung cancer is -below average-, and my risk risk of heart diesease -very much below average- compared to the average male my age.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
Check this out - it-s not for quitting, but it-s a way you can smoke without taking in the thousands of chemicals in a tobacco cigarette. This one puts out only water vapor and the nicotine comes from green peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes (yeah... weird, but those veggies and several others have nicotine!).

Also much cheaper than regular cigarettes - and you can smoke it nearly anywhere.
Well you are the only one that can answer that question. I would recommend quitting but you need to have a plan. I am going to suggest you try some smokeless cigarettes. They might not benefit you bc you are not a regular smoker but its just a suggestion. This was the easiest way i ever quit smoking real cigarettes and trust me i have failed with the patch and the gum. check them out.
I know you don-t want to quit. I didn-t want to quit either, and I smoked a lot more than you did. But at the same time, I did want to quit, for my own health - my loved ones.

It-s funny, too, how when you quit and then later smell someone who smokes, you-ll be like, -Wow, did I smell that bad when I smoked?-

From things I-ve read, it-s still pretty bad even if you only smoke a little bit. Plus, it-s easier to quit now than if you wait until your habit gets worse.
wtf is this about polluting cars pollute more than cigarettes id worry about your health more than that.
i have somewhat high self control so ive smoked for maybe half a year and just now quit but i know i will never let myself get addicted i usually have just 1 or 2 randomly in a week or month sometimes go a few months without one.

i have rolling tobacco so its easy to just take it as i need it.
Yes and it is up to you to do so as fast as you can. Smoking any cigarettes no matter how many can lead to an addiction caused by the nicotine. So don-t even try it and or think of it as a small thing. I am going to die earlier than I wanted to because of the fact that I would not face it and put it away and out of my life as I and you should do. No matter how many a day. One is too much. Please stop now.
Do you really want to keep smoking? It can be easy for those couple of cigs to turn into a pack a day before you know it. Never mind the stink and health problems....it can get EXPENSIVE.

Its up to you, of course, but I-d quit if I were you. It will be 1000x easier now than it would be if you started smoking more or for long term.
simple answer: yes. along with all of the obvious medical problems, most people shy away from smokers as they pollute the air and set a bad example for future generations.
Yes you must do it, find about that information -Negative Effects Of Smoking-
you dont smoke ciggarette, Ciggarette smokes You.
any smoking is bad for your health, even one cigarette a day....it can cause cancer and other diseases..so you decide
The only way you-re going to give up is if you really want to.
yes that-ss if you want to quit
only if you want to

what helps you?
The following will work for you. You don-t even need good luck.
Local hospitals offer week-long programs to make you quit smoking. Then you-ll need this trick to not go back to it: Don-t have that one cigarette for the rest of your life!
People buckle under the intense urge for a cigarette and think that their problem will go away with one cigarette. But that just makes the problem go away temporarily, only to come back with a higher intensity.
Quitting smoking feels like a loss of a loved one because to the brain it is just that - a loved one. So be prepared for the longing and the pain. Just endure it. It won-t kill you. Actually, it will make you live longer.
Adapt a new lifestyle i.e. eat fruits, go jogging, etc. Do whatever, but once you have gone through the week-long quit-smoking program, DON-T HAVE THAT ONE CIGARETTE NO MATTER WHAT. If you have that one cigarette, you fail and if you don-t then you succeed. It is that simple. You do need that week-long program to launch yourself into the wonderful world of non-smoking though.
One more thing: you may need to keep the company of non-smokers for a while i.e. at least one year.
Try this website for quit smoking help and information. Quit smoking can be a very stressful experience so you-ll need as much help as you can get.

Remember why you-re doing it! (Family, friends, general health)

Don-t give up and good luck!
Call 1-800-NO-BUTTS. My buddy did and he-s has not had a cigarette in 8 weeks after being a very heavy smoker for 30 years. Can-t hurt to try.
it actually up to your determination. when u have a craving for it, suck on a mint. it helps. that how i quit smoking. and once u quit, never pick it up again even for just 1 puff, cos u will be addict to it much faster than u can imagine
It-s very hard and it will never happen UNLESS YOU are determined to make it happen.
Then you really should get into a support group and there you will find all of the tricks and tips like changing your life style to help break the habit.
dont start in da first place duhhh
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quit smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK
I was very lucky... when I did smoke, quitting was VERY easy for me. I was able to simply stop, with no side affects or withdrawls. My dad, however, had a harder time. He went cold turkey (after smoking since he was 14!) and fought his way through it with hard candy. Lots and lots of hard candy! He was also different... he didn-t gain weight, he lost about 20 lbs. There are so many great products on the market today... I-d try one of those -step down- ones. There-s no need to suffer if you don-t have to.
Heard that you got drugs to help you these days. Anyway, determination is the key to success.
The truth. Patience....count how many cigarettes you smoke a day and decrease the amount till you only end up with one and that is even harder. Don-t stress over it and start eating. Go to the gym instead or do other activities to get it out of your mind. :)
I have tried several times....Doesnt work well.

Loads of people say cold turkey and willpower
Sick with pneumonia for three weeks, after that never smoke again. :)
by not buying them
i havequit for 3 weeks now used nrt patches for a couple of weeks, smoked 30 ciggies a day ,for 25 years whatever you use you will need lots of willpower, and packets of tic tacs
if you see the photos of the organs of the people that smoke, you may never smoke again...
Due to strong desire to quit, due to strong will....not with the help of -WILLS-..
As you question goes, I have quit smoking six years ago. It is my will power that has helped me. You must understand the bad effect of tobacco on your health and that will bring courage.

Do it fast if you are still a smoker.

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Work out, that-ll improve your confidence (nothing adds to confidence than great sexy body that make others turn and look at you agan!).

You can chew a gum or something to make it look like you are detached and confident (I think gums give off a more -i-m badass- air while cigarettes give off more of -i-m addicted- air nowadays).

Chew a nicotine gum so you have an added benefit of a stop smoking aid, might help quitting.

Finally, stop posting how to quit questions on internet you pathetic guy/girl and just QUIT!
my daddy is trying to quit smoking too we came up with a plan starts with stop smoking gum you can get it almost any were every time you have the need to smoke dont just chew a piece of gum then you can reduce your smoking in half ex if you smoke four a day smoke two then one then non hope these helps and stay strong

For me cold turkey. But it does depend a little on how long you have been smoking.
If you want you can go to your doctor and get a medication which is very effective - two of my family have used it and now are non smokers. Others find nicotine patches very good - hypnosis is also good for some
A good website for you below to read and help you decide
try stay busy....I was leaving to work like 5 min before - to not have a chance for cigarette. Don-t smoke in the house and now when is so hot you wont feel like go outside and honestly it helped me when other people smoked and just smell it. Yes this is hard but mostly is in the head. I still feel like I need a cigarette but trying to repeat myself - if I did not smoke for week or 2 weeks or whatever I can do one more day. Also I repeat myself I will smoke tomorrow - every day this same after I wake up!
Good luck
Quit. Cold turkey. Going on 8 months (this time).
GUm lots of it

WHY SMOKING IS TOUGH TO QUIT
============== ==============
Smoking is very tough to quit because it doesn-t only test your Will power but it makes your biologically addicted. It is not just a bad habit, but it is something you are bound with and will require either an extreme will power (which if you had, you might have left smoking far ago) or something that can replace that habit.

HOW TO QUIT SMOKING PERMANENTLY ?
================== =================
The only feasible way to quit a bad habit or addiction is to replace it with another addiction (This is what rehabilitation centers do to drug addicts)
You can quit smoking by replacing cigarettes with some non harmful product which is easier to quit later due to its lack of biological addiction.
E-Cigarettes are a good option, Chewing gum is sometimes helpful but not always and is harmful if consumed in large quantity.
This website
http://cigarettereplacer.com/
Has many reviews of smoking quitters and many harmless products to help you quit smoking with detailed instructions.
If you are strong willed, decide not to smoke. Take a pledge not to smoke and follow it and follow it strictly.
Alternately, avoid smoking (without taking any pledge). Gradually bring down the number. Smoke only when offered by some one(don-t spend any money on it). Don-t offer cigarettes to others. and you will soon find others avoid offering cigarettes to you. If you take a pledge and break it, you will feel guilty. If you don-t take the pledge but make a conscious effort to reduce it and stop it, there is better chance of success.
If you find these methods difficult to practice, and if you are still determined to stop smoking, take the help of any counselling centre.
I used to smoke for about 5 years and now smoke free for 2 years. I went cold turkey and took it one day at a time from there. You have to constantly motivate yourself to quit and keep telling your self if I don-t quit now it-s just going to get harder. After the first month or so which is going to be very difficult the cravings are not as bad and continue to fight off the urges. I-m not going to lie it-s been a little over 2 years now and I still have urges sometimes but I fight it off.
Good Luck.
cumon ur a man with six senses hw can u let urself be controlled by a lifelesss worthless cigar.. motivate urself.. u shud rule urself.. think of all the possiblities to quit smoking.. and all the benefits ur gona get by quitting it..
well I am on the same boat trying to quit smoking what i do is I eat some fruit or toffee and it has been working so far.
its your will power and strong determination h.k

After you quit smoking how long does it take to get over the cravings so much? -

A few days for the worst of them to subside. About two weeks until smell and taste come back fully and you can get by a day without thinking of smoking every fifteen minutes. To get over the cravings and never want another cigarette? Doesn-t happen. There will always be that little monster of addiction waiting in the wings.
21 days is how long it takes for nicotine to get out of your body.

For What? To learn music? Or music to be hypnotized by?
For something hypnotic like you might try
White Noise Meditation album Water Fall Entrainment
Luna Mystica by Angels of Venice
or maybe some Tibetan Chakra Meditations

So guitar zero for a reason? If you would like some great guitar music check out Jesse Cook. My favorites are Breathing Below Surface, Olodum, Virtue, but they are all good. I also like Behzad-s Endless Passion.
I run and operate a blog about hypnosis. I started a new thread about hypnosis and quit smoking. I want you to share your opinion about it with my blog which will be helpful for the readers reading my blog. check my blog @

You can leave comment at the end of blog. Hope you will find all information at my blog that you are looking for.
Possibly but don-t start to rely on hypnosis for everything.

Im really trying to get my aunt to quit smoking is hypnotherapy effective? was it expensive?
My brother-in-law tried and it was costly.

But he could see the potential so he took up an online course and did self-hypnosis. Worked very well and he-s not smoked for a year already.
I never try hypnotherapy before. But why limiting your scope on one method only? You never know which one is best suit with your aunt needs. You can try other method such as Neuro-Linguistic-Programming which is one form of psychotherapy. You can check about it on this website
Hello

Expense depends on where you live - who you see.

Your Aunt will only find Hypnosis effective if it is something that she really wishes to do.

Pam
don-t know about hypnotherapy, but you should try acupuncture. see an acupuncturist who is an ADS (acupuncture detox specialist).
The good thing about hypnotherapy is its really very easy to quit, unless u r very adamant.

You wont get any cravings or may be 1 % of what if u quit cold turkey.

I tried NLP and am very sure its probably the easiest way to quit. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS WILLING TO QUIT
My friend did it and it worked for her. It was fairly expensive - about US$150 per session and she went three times (she has made this back many times over since though from not buying cigarettes!). The main thing to point out here though is that it won-t work if your Aunt doesn-t already want to quit. It is not a magic bullet solution - it helps make the process easier but if she still wants to smoke she will. I would also advise you get recommendations for a good hypnotherapist in your area as some will be better than others, and if you live an a large city there may be some who are not even qualified, so be sure to do your research.

I quit smoking four days ago, but in doing so gained a new addiction?? -

Yesterday, I don-t know WHY, I started chewing on a tube of flavored lip gloss, to the point of the product leaking out. I-ve had it in my mouth since then, but I have no desire for a cigarette. Is it just normal to chew on something or is there some addictive property of the lip gloss itself?
Normal to chew... Get some straws or drink stirs ( coffee stirs ) those are good to chew on
what you-re experiencing is called an oral fixation -- you-re used to having a cigarette in your mouth to relieve stress, and now that it-s gone you-re replacing it with other things.
it-s not exactly dangerous to do what you-re doing, but there are a few things you should be careful of. don-t chew anything hard that could chip or crack your teeth. don-t chew anything that might break apart into pieces you could swallow or splinter into sharp ends. all that extra chewing can also put unnecessary strain on your jaw joints and muscles, which can lead to pain and locking (quite unpleasant), and having something in your mouth all the time can actually shift your teeth out of alignment too.
it-s really best to wean yourself out of the habit. when you notice you-re chewing on something, don-t indulge. put it down. try to discipline yourself to not do it. it-ll take time and patience, but it can be done. in the meantime, be careful!
You-re just used to having something in your mouth. I-d try drinking straws or coffee stir sticks. Often, smoking addictions happen because of the need for something to have something in your mouth as a stimulant. Have you ever been diagnosed with ADD? It-s a common desire among ADD individuals to occupy their body physically all the time.
A lot of times the addiction of smoking is the oral fixation. As long as your keeping your hands and mouth busy, you really wont need the cigarette. I hope you are not doing it cold turkey because that`ll work for a week or 2 then suddenly you`ll have an urge so strong you`ll give in. Good luck to you and it`s better to chew on lipgloss then a cancer stick.

im quitting and need some will power and someting to look forward too while quitting
Some people never lose the cravings as such...I-m coming up to a year and still would like one at times. I keep gum handy.

The best thing you can do is get a clear container and put your daily cigarette money in there every morning and watch it build up....I-ve got £700 in there, i-ve dipped into it for christmas and to buy wooden flooring that I just couldnt afford before....that and the gum and keeping busy on here are what have kept me nicotine free. I joined Q-A on the day I quit to keep me occupied so I do owe some of my success to this place
From personal experience - i found it easy - until the triggers came along. When i am drinking alcohol, when my spuse lost her will power etc.
There is a physical withdrawal from nicotine but in my, and many other peoples opinion, it is minute.

Let me give you a scenario that i wish someone had given me-

It-s your first ciggy - it gives you a buzz - you have another one the next day - and so on. But this is pre 2nd world war - nobody knows that nicotine is addictive - so you don-t crave.

Nowadays you have heard that cigs are addictive- so you know that you will nedd one two or three hours after your last one - so you crave.

There are countless stories of people who have given up heroin - just by a change of lifestyle (Vietnam vets) and never craved because they were outwith the situation they took heroin.

PS
I speak to heroin addicts all the time (in my job) and they tell me (after i-ve asked obviously) that heroin is easier to kick than cigs.

In my opinion Cigs is easy - the physical withdrawal is gone after 72hrs. Just ride it out and never think of a fag again.
I quit smoking a year ago, and I cant honestly say the feeling 100% goes away. For the most part it does, but there are certain times when I feel like if one was in reach, id have one.

I noticed for me, after 2 weeks, I started to feel better (as in headaches and irritability), and then after a month, I didnt feel like I needed one at all times. I kinda stopped thinking about it so much. But after that, theres little things that set it off. Like, when my husband and I go out and have a drink, I want one. It used to be when i was driving I really wanted one, but that was more of a habit of sitting the car having something to do, than the smoking itself. I think its kinda the same when my husband and I go out drinkning. The only nice thing is, although it sounds nice, and for a moment I may want one, I can tell myself no, and the urge goes away within a minute.

Keep up the hard work. Its soooo worth it. And believe me, things get easier as the weeks go on!
Never. You-ll always -need- one at time-s of intense stress. The key is willpower. Forget the motivation crap, it will become meaningless. You need to be determined I dont -need- to do this, I -want- to do it. I am choosing a healthier me. I dont -want- to smoke. Use nicorettes, they-ll make u hate smoke later. The problem is u-ll get addicted to them like me and Obama.
Hehe ,i dont want to be a killjoy here but u will have days even in 5 years time when u fancy a ciggarette

U are a addict and always will be ,but remember every time you have that craving and beat it and sit back and take a deep breath then you will give yourself a little bit more chance to not end up on some breathing apperatus wheezing and unable to breathe properly and you shall feel better about youself

stay strong
People who Smoke Can-t Tell how bad they Smell, So the longer you keep off the Ciggys the sooner you be Rid of that Smell, and enjoy what Food tastes like, Your Cloths , Hair and every thing you touch will be Fresher,So Good Luck
Although smokers who have given up can almost be considered as smokers who are currently not smoking, after 2 years the odds against restarting are in your favour.
your cravings will subside but throughout ya life you will have moment where you will think -god i need a ciggy- lol cant say the F word for ciggy on here, so american lol
I wish I knew because I-m always quitting but never stay the course. If you manage it please let us all know, and good luck.
Well to be honest, my grandad quit 25 years ago, and he says he still gets cravings once in a while
That would vary on the strength of your addiction.
Your body craves nicotine for just 48 hours. You wanting one will last for the rest of your life. FACT!! Good luck!!
5 min
good luck to you that-s all I can say
When you quit smoking how long does it take until you never ever need one again? -

For those who quit smoking: How long after...? -

For those who quit smoking: How long after...? -

you quit smoking does the cravings for nicotine subside? Two days? Three? or does it depend on how much you-ve smoked per day or how addicted you were? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

By the way, I was thinking about going with the Commit Lozenges - do they work?
i had good results from lozenges and have been smoke free 2 years. the cravings will slowly get better over time, but i-d say the first 3-4 days are the absolute worst. i know how much it sucks, and some days i-d still sell my kidney for a butt, but you gotta do it, and if i can, you can. my mum smoked when she was pregnant and i often say i-ve been addicted since conception! i smoked 14 years. yes, you can!

http://medicinerx.net/zyban.php

.Zyban is what you need to quit smoking for good! Zyban worked wonders for me and helped me finally give them stinking cigs up. I bought Zyban online from medicineRx.Net. they were super fast and I did not even need a prescription! They use only US licensed Doctors and Pharmacies so you can order with confidence! good luck and zyban WILL get you to quit for good!
The cravings never go away.
nicotine last up to 3 weeks in your system, after then its a mental additcion.
I smoked a pack and a half a day. Very very addicted. I quit using the patches. Since the patches contain nicotine, it-s like spreading the pain of the nicotine withdrawal process over 10 weeks rather than a week or two. But, I couldn-t have quit without them. I recommend them highly.
Everyone is different when it comes to quiting I had quit for 3 years cold turkey because I almost missed carried and I never missed but the second I tried to I haven-t been so successful but I am now going to start a medication called Chantix. It works differently than other things because this medication is works directly on the brain to block the cravings and the way it tastes when you smoke. It is new but I heard it has a good success rate. It has to be prescribed. Hope you achieve your goal. Good Luck.
I have been off the smokes for 6 and a half mos. now.I still wish I could have a drag, but i know that I cannot.I used the patch for the first week, just to get through the roughest part, and they did help!I am 55 and have smoked since I was 12 it was such a cool thing to do.I now look 65 and have very deep wrinkles, not so so.I do wish you the very best! To those that can say, just throw them away,i hate you!
OMG...........thats right.......i have to quit..on new years eve....now im gonna be even meaner...and probably gain a bunch of weight...crap...this s.ucks...
two weeks... though there are certain triggers that are tough to topple, like after meals, for me going outside, checking e-mail in the morning... good luck!
Well...I-m one of those dreaded -older- guys...I like 2 tell folks...-Quitting smoking is easy...I-ve done it 27 times...- Well...now it-s been nearly 20 yrs since my last cigarrrette. I started the -patch- when it was a prescripotion. My Dr. insisted that I sign-up 4 a stop-smoking class, b4 he would write the Rx. grrrr! Well, well, he was right ! I HATED that I had 2 go 2 some stupid class to hear that I shouldn-t smoke. I was 100% WRONG! They taught me all sorts of stuff...that the actual Nicotine is gone usually after 72 hours (3 days). Also, that I would need to -change- any routines that I smoked @. For example, if I smoked when I got out of bed...don-t have them in the bedroom. If I sat - smoked while on the phone. Stand up - walk to a different room to talk on the phone. Etc. etc... I had to -change- a ton of little stuff...that - the Patch seemed to work 4 me. It was, in my case, the hardest thing I have ever done. I had smoked 2+ packs a day for 30+ years! But...I DID IT - SO CAN U!!!! We are all different, - what works well for some, may not work well 4 others. To those -Saints- that just throw them out the window...kudos...I would have just gone 2 buy more...lol There are TONS of Support/Help groups - stuff out there....U can DO THIS! Please ask 4 any - all help u need...I am walking proof it is possible...Good Luck to you....- God Bless...
It usually takes about 3-5 days from my experience. I tried the patch (terrible). Finally went with Nicotine gum (worked very well)!

But if you use Nictotine gum, it-ll take care of the Nicotine withdrawal. Quiting cold turkey, with no Nicotine is BRUTAL.

I tried that once.
The first two weeks is the hardest !! If you can make it through the first two weeks, then you should be all set. Also change your habits. If you used to smoke when you would talk on the phone, then try not to talk on the phone too much for a while. If you always smoke after you eat, chew a piece of gum or read a book for a while. Cinnamon is good to help with cravings, buy Cinnamon tooth paste or gum. Good Luck
Its very hard to tell the difference between craving for nicotine and craving for cigarette. They become almost as one craving.

Ask your doctor about the new medication for smoking called -Chantix- It seems to be working really well in the control group
They never totally subside. Plus, don-t waste money on scams like that gum, patches and such. If you want to quit, just toss the cigs you have out the car window and just don-t buy any more.
My hubby quit over a year - 1/2 ago - he smoked 3 packs a day and said once in a while he still wants a cig. but to help him get over it he finds something to do, play with the dogs, take a walk, mess around in his shop, so that might help you to.
GOOD LUCK
I quit 2 years ago but that was after I was diagnosed with lung cancer. the thing i talk through keeps me from smoking but I do enjoy a nicotine patch every once in a while.
its been 6 months since i-ve quit smoking after 6 yrs of it. for me the immediate nicotine cravings took a couple of weeks, but i quit cold turkey. every now and again i miss the feeling of having a cigg or just having one with my morning coffee or for the social thing at work. if you-re quitting remember its a lifestyle change that you have to make too. you might have to stop drinking coffee or alcohol for a short while until you build up that mental resistance to say no to a cigg. i wish you all the best of luck and remember if you-re really ready then you can rise above the cravings and tell yourself one day at a time.

Why is so hard to motivate yourself to go to the gym or eat healtier foods or try to quit smoking? -

Inertia
I lost alot of weight last year, and gained it all back, so I know I-m capable of it, but I just can-t get motivated this time. So, I don-t know the answer, but, I sure feel the question!
well smoking is physically addictive, unhealthly food can be mentally addictive, and not going to the gym is just lazyness
The simple answer to that is probably you are happy.... to make changes are hard, and you can only do it if you really want. I can relate to your question my self as probably most of the yahoo users.....
Do what makes you happy.... life-s too short
i think aside from will power, it will help you most if you have some buddies / support group whom you can share your passions with for giving up something. one advantage of this is that you-ll have someone to constantly remind you and assure you that you-re on the right track. besides, they may also share your sentiments about the giving-it-up thing too.
well, with ciggis you feel the mental urge 4 em, as much as the physicall urge.
I think that it is hard to make changes in your life. Things are always happening to drive you off track. For example, if you have been good about going to the gym and eating right, and then WHAM something rotten happens at work or at home and you just fall back into bad habits. I have lost and gained weight over and over again and am still smoking. No good answers for you but I feel your pain!
do you have a target? enter a 10 k race! keep on running.
Its called LAZINESS, if u really want to lose the weight you would show great amount of determination

Ive quit smoking for 2 weeks and have had a stomachache the whole time does anybody know why this is? -

stress. Struggle through! I know how hard it is...6 monthes quit here. It will be worth it though! Right?
I don-t have an answer but wanted to say well done and keep up the good work! Quitting is hard! Keep going :)
Its all apart of quiting...try to go for a walk to distract you..Your body is trying to force you into smoking again by causing distress or pain..its withdrawls.
I quit over 15 years ago and I remember that it was very difficult and I did not feel well for the first few weeks then I felt great. Keep at it you will never regret that you quit only if you don-t .
Your body is adjusting to the lack of Nicotine. Your stomach can feel as though it-s in - knots- . Your nerves/stress can cause the stomach to react this way as well. I hope this helps and Congrats on quitting. Hang in there !!
This is your stomach reacting to smoking withdrawal. May I suggest a few cups of licorice tea. It will give your stomach the feeling of having nicotine. Try chewing on natural licorice sticks. (found in heath food stores) My mother used them to quit smoking and she-s been smokeless for over twenty years.
have a smoke it will go away
withdrawals symptoms
can be alleviated by chewing some nicotine gum or just suck it up realize why ya quit and know soon you will feel better
The stomache ach is your bodies way of letting off craving symptoms. However this could be something serious if it is so pain full you can not stand or have to bend over. I quit 4 yrs ago.
I took smoking cessation classes and it was covered there.
They said as your body adjusts to life w/o it one of the side effects could be constipation.(Is that the kind of stomach ache you have?)
Try drinking lots of water and avoid caffeine.

Good luck !!!!

I only stayed quit for a few weeks.

How to quit smoking? -

How to quit smoking? -

I-m not a smoker ,but my friend is ,and I want a easy way for him to stop.
Perhaps he could investigate a web search for -nicorette activestop-.
The short of it is: You can-t help him. Ask any smoker you want who has successfully stopped and you will find out that it is THEIR decision when THEY are ready. You can talk your head off. They can watch their parent, brother, lover, die with lung cancer because of smoking, and they won-t quit until they find THEIR reason. Sorry. There absolutely isn-t an easy way to stop, believe me.

He has to have the guts, and the strong will to make it work.

I am sorry. I ALSO was a smoker of 35 years and I watched my own dear husband and soul mate suffer emphysema and lung cancer, and I took care of him at home until he died in my arms. I would take breaks and go smoke!!!!

I quit 4 months after his death for an entirely unrelated reason.
That was 4 years ago.

Good luck
I am an RN
There is no such thing as an easy way to stop smoking. There are ways to help you but it still comes down to will power. I used Zyban (not the generic) and nicorette gum. I used Zyban as directed and started cutting down on the number of cigarettes, when I really wanted one and it was too soon I used nicorette gum. When the day finally came to stop smokin completely, I also stopped the nicorette gum and switched to regular gum. This is where your will power comes in. Keep busy, take a walk, other than eating, stop doing the things you associate with smoking. If you usually have a cigarette with coffee, switch to tea or a international coffee anything you don-t associate smoking with. Next think of something you really want to do or a person you want to show up, anything to keep the drive up, you can be nice later when you are a non smoker. Finally reward your self. If you have managed to stop for 3 days, have an ice cream sunday or something small like that, after 30 days give your self something bigger. I decided if I made it 30 days I was giving myself new dishes. I bought a complete set with service for 12. It has now been going on 8 years, I am still chewing regular gum, but its a small price to pay. Do expect to gain a few pounds (10 +) its natural, once your system settles down you should be able to easily loose those extra pounds as long as you don-t replace food for the cigarettes.
You could make your friend a deal, if he gives up smoking you could give up something, or you could plan a trip together if he stops smoking. Just don-t nag at him , that will only make him dig his heels in and resent you.
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
have him get an RX for Chantix..its kinda expensive..but most employers offer a smoking sensation program..making the pill free or darn near free
Psychologist-s FREE Instant Hypnosis For Smoking Cessation MP3 Audio Download and link to FREE copy of Allen Carr-s -Easy Way to Stop Smoking- Best-selling ebook can be found at

I like the concern you have for your friend, but sorry to say, you can-t help him stop if he doesn-t want help.

By -easy- you mean quick and painless. There is no such way to stop because smoking is an -addiction-. By definition, breaking from an addiction brings on some degree of trauma, and it can take time to get past it. It varies for everyone how long and how difficult that is.

There is no fast and painless method, but there are ways to make it fastER and LESS painful. More than a pill or a patch, your friend needs to learn about the addiction, how to stop, and needs to have support to answer his struggles as they occur. Send him to this group (when he-s ready):
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NicotineBusters

I-ve been stopped now for 4 years and owe it all to that group. They really are different. And tell them Daisy sent you. -g-

The truth is there is no easy way to stop smoking, lots of willpower.

How to quit smoking? -

How can I convince my son to quit smoking.? -

How can I convince my son to quit smoking.? -

You cannot. All you can do is to inform him of the dangers. Inform him of the cost. A one pack a day habit at nearly $5 a pack costs over $1800 per year for one (365 days times $5 per day = $1825). It will cause cancer. Take him to talk with some people who have lung cancer and Emphazima from smoking. Make him see what they have to go through all because of cigarettes. In the end, it is his choice, make it an informed one.
Lung cancer is the worse type of cancer to have.
There is only a 5% survival rate.
The number one cause of lung cancer is smoking.
80% of lung cancer patients will develop a brain tumor within five years.
Lung cancer is hard to prevent because the symptoms of it are something people ignore...cough, sputum....
Once you find out you have lung cancer there is a 75% chance that is has already spread from the lung to other places on the body.
Only 20% off all lung cancer patients qualify for surgery...and even after having surgery your survival rate only goes up to 15%.

Take him to a cancer treatment center let him talk to some of the patients...

Having lung cancer is not a good way to go...you can-t breathe, you can-t do anything, your out of breath after 2 seconds of activity. And the treatment you have to undergo isn-t any better. You have to deal with all the symptoms and side effects..such as loss of taste buds, burnt skin.......
You cannot, he has to want to do it. Then education comes into play.
I-m not really sure, but you can try showing him pictures of the effects of smoking in his body.
Let him watch an open chest surgery of a patient who is a long time smoker. He might be disgusted or maybe even horrified of such scene, and that is effective. Also, you can get him an ashtray of a shape of a lung. So everytime he puts out a cigarette, he can visually see how black that ashtray is getting.

I don-t know how old your son is, but I-m assuming that your son is at least a teenager. He probably thinks smoking is cool, pressured by his friends, of gets his influences from other sources. That does not mean that you can be where ever he is, so you have to talk to him about this and educate him about the cons of smoking. Being dramatic by showing a little emotion won-t hurt either. Good luck
Tell him it-s a turn off....it makes you smell bad and nobody over 16 really thinks anybody is cool who smokes anyway. And it-s always annoying when the smokers are hacking in the middle of class...I-m in college and that-s so annoying.
If he is smoking since long than it is easy to convince him. Get his X Ray AP view of chest. It will show a lot of Patches in Lungs Due to Bronchitis. Also take x ray of some non smoker at the same time - same place with the same doctor - machine. Than ask him why their are patches in his lung - no Patches on non smoker-s Lung? What will happen in longer run if he keeps on smoking? I think he will come on the right track.

I am trying to quit smoking pot and i am finding myself losing sleep? -

its as if my brain just wont shut off and at night when i lay down its like it goes into overdrive if anyone has any idea of how to make this problem go away please let me know
Try smoking a spliff, that-s what I do
you will have to break your habbit mr.
thats normal.

use a patch and it should mitigate it
You should try to listen to calming music, not extremely loud but gentle music. Try something musical only with nature tunes, as well as reading a chapter(if you can stomach reading) also exercise might also help to exhaust you
Why are you quitting?! It-s a wonderful way to fall asleep. I can-t wait til I have this baby so I can light up again.

Go on and give me a thumbs down, ignorant folk. It-s a plant, a natural part of the earth and has been used in medicine for thousands of years.
i started taking 1/2 of a tylenol p.m the first week and after that the problem went away.
It takes a while to get out of your system especially if you smoke every day. Drink lots of water and take some vitamins to speed up the process. Start exercising a couple hours before bed to wear yourself down. Or try reading while in bed. I am an avid reader but if I read in bed I will fall asleep. This feeling will eventually go away but it will take some time. Something I do to help me fall asleep is rub my eyebrows gently. Going in the direction of the hair. Or I will take my thumb and rub a circle between my eyes. This always helps me get sleepy and it helps with migraines too. Good luck!
Exercise or working will help as you will not only be tired but it is just good for the body in general. Ever try the herbal teas?
Sleepy-time is a good one....just a natural way to relax you. I mediate when I feel overwhelmed or stressed out and it works like a charm.

Sometimes other things cause insomnia such as ADHD, BP, Anxiety Disorder, and many more. I would discuss all this to your doctor tho as he knows your medical history and is of course the physician. =)

Good Luck!!
Find something else to occupy your time with. If you used to smoke before you went to bed maybe you could try to exercise before instead. Something that will keep your mind off and put some tiredness back in to your night.
try smoking a doob before bed
Try getting some second hand smoke... Works the same without inhaling a big cloud of smoke!
Its really just time unfortunately. It is a symptom of withdrawal. You could take a sleep aide once or twice but I wouldn-t recommend prolonged use! Good Luck - It sucks but it gets better, I promise. It took me about 2 weeks to get over it.
work out so when you have to go to sleep your tierd
see a doctor!!!!
You have to replace it with something else. Try something positive like exercise. Good luck.
That probably means you are starting to get a NORMAL amount of sleep instead of sleeping 14 hours a day from the weed effect.
The only thing that-s going to make it go away is TIME....sorry but that-s how it works.
Occupy your mind with something you don-t think about. Try listening to music, not something that makes you wanna go jam or gets you going...something almost boring.

Trying to sleep with racing thoughts sucks. Sometimes I also deprive myself of a full nights sleep so that by 10pm, I-m dog tired.

You just have to mess around and find what works best for you.
try chewing gum.
That-s quite normal. I smoked a lot during college and noticed that it was suppressing my dreams. When I stopped all the dreams came flooding back, weirder than ever. Pot does a lot of stuff to your brain (any drug does). You just need to ride it out and eventually things will get better.
One 5 mg. melatonin and 2-3 valarian root capsules both over the counter and works great haven-t tryed the kava kava yet.
its normal... when you smoke pot your brain goes into slow motion mood giving you time to fall asleep between thought.. when you dont smoke it stays in a constant state of motion and thinking... all you have to do is eat right before bed and if that doesnt work try taking some sleep aid for the first few days of not smoking anymore.. but only for the first few days.. you cant subtitute one drug for another
why did you start in the first place
yeah very simple methods drink hot milk have a hot bath relax yourself way before you sleep as soon as you need to sleep go to bed or try taking herbal sleeping pills like nytol from your local chemist i am trying to quit smoking as well its dam hard as long as you don-t think about it why cant they invent cigarettes with the same taste same everything but are actually healthy now that-s a stupid thought.
It takes a while for your brain to return to -normal-, usually about 60-90 days.

Stay away from exercise, food, and bright lights for at least two hours before bed.

You might also try a small cup of milk before sleep.

Good luck!
lol at the guy who said start drinking!
start drinking.

How Do I Quit Smoking??????????? -

I need some good advice on this, I-ve been smoking for almost 11 months - I need to stop before it-s too late,, plzzzzzzz tell me anything that u think is helpful.... I-d be extremly thankful...
Also, how does anyone know weither they have cancer ( God forbid ) ?????

Thnx alot in advance..
There you go for more info :
http://index-go.com/health_fitness_medic…

There is no way to know if have cancer or if you will develop cancer. Quite often it is detected on a doctors visist. Since you have been smoking less than a year your best bet is to just get rid of the cigarettes and buy lots of gum to chew and hard candy to suck. If you feel you need help then you can either see your doc for meds to help or use the nicotine patch or gum etc. Hubby quit smoking cold turkey over 8 years ago and he had been smoking for about 25 years so yes it can be done.
I smoked for 13 years and quit -cold turkey-. I needed to be really angry at the way I was controlled by the cigarettes so that I could quit them.
good ? when u find out please let me know, i have been trying to quit for years now and every time i try i get so irretable or stressed i start up again. i just recently had a baby and i tried to qiut when i was pg and it was such a powerful addiction i couldnt even quit then. smoking is an addiction, and iam with u i want to quit but i am having a very hard time. sorry i couldnt give u any advice, but i just thought i would let u know that u r not the only person out there wanting to quit an is having a hard time.
eurggh glad your trying to quit,

just think about al the chemicals you are putting in to your body, you might aswell drink a bottle of bleach, in a side a dirty science lab
First step in quitting smoking is that you should have the realization, will and resolve to quit. No outside aids or medication is going to help you if you lack the will to stop smoking.

I recently quit smoking like 3 months ago, up till now I am strong in my resolve. The reason being I am 40 and think its high time I quit smoking before getting into serious health trouble. I did some research on the best way to quit smoking. I am not fan of nicotine patches or gum because certain side effects are associated with them, after all it is nicotine which is a poison.

I am using a combination of hypnosis and natural remedy (Crave-RX) to quit. Hypnosis works at the subconscious level to eliminate the triggers that cause us to smoke and Crave-RX is good to reduce nicotine craving and suppress withdrawal symptoms.

The best I liked about this solution is it does not carry any side effects. People respond differently to different treatments but it worked for me. It is worth a try.

Anyway you need to find out a method that suits you visit the following link for further information…Good Luck!!
I wouldn-t worry about cancer as a result of cigarettes at this point, if you smoke another 10 years it could be a factor.
The best way to quit smoking is to stop cold turkey. Do not believe the nicotine addiction lies. Do not believe the the irresponsible propaganda put out by the big drug companies that says that since nicotine withdrawal is such a horrible experience the only way that you could possibly hope to succeed at it is by using their products to incrementally withdraw from it. This is a case of big drug companies telling big health lies. Nicotine withdrawal is no big deal -really. I-ve had colds that felt a lot worse.
They reason that both newbies like yourself and long term addicts like I once was have trouble
quiting smoking is because we are addicted to the habit not the nicotine. Addictive personality-s are addictive personality-s and the only differnce is ones choice of substance or activity.
If you approach quitting from a changing a habit perspective you will succeed if you approach it from a nicotine perspective you will not.
good luck
First of all, let me tell you some things about smoking. Hopefully, this will scare the wits out of you, and make you never smoke AGAIN.
Tobacco kills more people than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, and much much more kinds of deaths combined.
A cigarette has more than 4000 chemicals when burned, and 2000 of them are poisonous, including tar, nicotine(which is so strong that it-s illegal even to use ot to kill bugs), carbon monoxide, ammonia, etc.
Scared? Now for some tips.
When you feel like you want to smoke, you should start to run, exercise, or have a little snack. This might help.
You can also start setting small goals. First, you can decide to smoke once an hour. After that, you can try not smoking for five hours. After that, you van decide not to smoke for a day, and so on. Reward yourself with an award.
stop putting the cigarettes in your mouth. Duh
The easiest way to quit smoking is to get a report from the health department nearest you about the various chemicals that are in cigarettes....... and then you would stop because you would not dream of taking such things into your body.

I doubt that you would have cancer after such a short period of time smoking .... so do not worry unnecessarily ..... I don-t know that people do know that they have cancer .... the best thing to do is to live a nice life and don-t do anything harmful to yourself.

Love

I need to quit smoking any suggestions on how to go about it? -

To quit the cancer sticks a Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking- can help you.
I tried 3 different times. the first 2 times I wasn-t really ready I suppose. It worked the 3rd time with acupuncture. I was a 3+ pack a day smoker and it has been 3 years since my last cigarette. You have to be mentally ready to quit before you try any method. Acupuncture, when done properly is the best way to accomplish kicking the habit. There is no craving, But to be honest, I wanted to smoke again but it had nothing to do with the NEED for nicotine but out of habit of what to do after a big meal etc. Good Luck with it though, whichever way you chose.
Just QUIT! I did and It was the best thing I ever did!! Everytime you light up, tell yourself how bad it tastes. Continue doing this and really mean it , soon you won-t want one! cut down as you go. Also associate it with something painfull, a pinch, pinprick, finger in a door, smash a toe, when you light up (not enough to cause injury), just enough to make you wince. It will help you Quit!!
Just quit cold turkey and get rid of any remaining cigarettes. If they aren-t there you won-t be tempted.

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

I travel frequently and when i am on the road is when I really smoke(about a pack a day). When I am not traveling I either don-t smoke or rarley do (maybe 1 a day if that) but as soon as i get to the airport I am Fiending for a smoke. I can stand the way it smells on me.
Help Please!!
I smoked for many years and 9 months ago I quit. I think the thing that helped me most I think was I stopped saying -I cant quit smoking- and started telling myself I can quit. I know it sounds silly but I think that was the key, knowing that you can do it. because you can. theres no one holding a gun to your head making you do it, so you can.. and that is one thing that you can do to help yourself and those around you, that doesn-t cost anything. in fact you can make money stopping smoking.. and I think you can quit because you said yourself that you hate the way it smells on you. That is one of my big reasons that I quit. just remember its all in your head after about 2 weeks of quitting, and you could hug a bear for 2 weeks right.? ya you can.
I-ve heard the most effective way is hypnosis.
talk to your doctor about this new pill they have out there its called chantix... i have heard from people who are taking it that it works really well...
I might have a solution for you. After reading about lindsay lohan and the miss usa who had problems with alcohal and drugs, I learned they had to go into rehab and the first few days they need to go through detox/cleansing first.
I-m not saying you need to go into rehab because you are NOT a very heavy smoker. So may i suggest this product that may help you reduce your cravings and at the same time boost your energy, immune system etc....This product is Isagenix! It helps people to internally cleanse their body.
Since you are a traveller most of the time, these product are quick and simple to use. Just blend it and drink. Even if you don-t blend use a spoon/fork and whip.
If you need more information go to:
www.isagenix.com

If you need more questions or help, please contact me at
emily_sum28@hotmail.com

Lots of great testimonials about the products. Look into it. It might be a product for you. who knows!
First of all I just need to know a bit of back ground information like:

1. WHEN did you start smoking?
2. WHY did you start smoking?
3. HOW long have you been doing this?
take the patch man . It should help. or chew gum .

How can i quit smoking if my mother smokes and leaves her fags around? and then i want 1 when i see them? -

i want to quit but my mum smokes and she leaves her fags laying around. when ever i get a craving i see them ad end up having one.
its really annoying..
Go to the NHS for quitting support. They have great ideas tailored to your needs and will give you all the gum and patches you could ever need.

You should ask your mother not to leave her cigarettes around the house. I-m sure she-ll try not to because she wants you to be healthy and I-m sure she-d help you out on your path to quitting. Good luck.

Any type of smoke affects the lungs. Remember, if you are not using a filter of any kind then you are getting even more carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) than you would from a normal cigarette.

-Herbal- cigs (cannabis) is 7x-s more harmful than regular cigarettes. Congrats on quitting, though. I need to do that myself.

JM
Is inhaling smoke healthy? Uh, Duh, No!
RN
what, cannabis? probably safer than smoking heroin xx
smoke of any kind is a carcinogen.... but if they don-t have nicotine at least you are not continuing the physical addiction just the habit. but yes they are harmful to your health

How to convince a relative to quit smoking? -

He smoke for a long time and says he can-t quit. Do you have any ideas........Thanks
You can-t make them but suggest they read Allen Car-s Easy Way method...I have and it changed my life! Quitting was enjoyable, much much easier, and he has the most mazing insight. They don-t even have to quit while they are reading the book!
self-determination is the single most effective factor towards quitting. go to your doctor and borrow a poster which shows the effects of smoking on the different organs in real life photos. this will surely scare him.
its really a mind over matter deal you cant make some one quit they have to want it also try quit smoking hot lines they can sometimes give you good information that will help you
you can not make a smoker quit ...they have to want to do it, or it won-t happen.
does he want to quit? my uncle quit with the Commit lozenges.

I am taking chantix which helps me with all the mood swings, but only so much.
Any help?
You visit -http://healths-resources.blogspot.com /- and there you will get solution of your problem under the heading craving ,desires and disgust. Ok.
hi baby_rost..

congratulations on your decision and efforts to quit.. that-s a big deal, and truly worthy.. you wont regret quitting!! as far as those early reactions, Oh yes... been there done that, snap at people, short attention span, the whole works.. its not the drug doing that.. its a natural product of nicotine withdrawal..folks in support groups acknowledge this phenomenon..

in fact i have a friend that uses the phrase,- you are allowed 3 homicides in your first 30 days-..this is obviously a joke, but i think you get the point.. most folks in support groups, look back on that period with a sort of gallows humor..

the real truth, is that right now ,you are probably oversensitive to anything real, or perceived.. and feel some guilt associated with the behavior.. rest assured it passes, and the world is actually a very forgiving place for recovering folks..

you may have noted, that i mention participation in a support group.. i have been nicotine free for over 5 years now, largely because of my participation, both locally and online.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings, and have found the support of others who have either successfully quit, or in the process-s of quitting very helpful when questions like this pop up.. you are welcome at meetings smoking or already quit.. on line meetings are as close as your computer..

BE CAREFULLLLL!!! this drug is very dangerous

Read the link below , it causes suicidal thoughts and depression

Personally, I won-t use drugs to quit smoking. If you think about it, you are consuming something to get rid of something. Anyway, it-s totally up to you how you quit smoking. Just make sure that there is no bad side effect of consuming the drugs because the effects might vary from person to person (yeah, people are different )

If you ask me how I quit, I just simply quit smoking cold turkey. Cold turkey might be difficult if you try it for the first time but after a few failed attempts you might figure out what can make it easy, seriously. I mean it-s still difficult but you can ease the whole process by doing certain things that might look small in the first place but have big impacts on the process of quitting e.g staying close to non-smoker group, listening to stop smoking audio everyday, etc. It might sound ridiculous, but hey, when we go back to basics most of complicated things are actually easy ;)
The same thing happened to me when I quit smoking. Tell your friends you-re quitting and apologize ahead of time for your vulnerability. They will be understanding, because they-d rather put up with your anger for a while than smoke cigarettes and ruin your health. Good luck!
Oh, the ones who can-t deal with reality unless they are on some kind of medication, substance, or chemical really make ME irritable.

I just quit smoking, what kind of lung and recovery can i expect? -

I have been a moderate smoker (no more than 15 a day) for the past 11 months, i know not long, and after trying to quit a few times this one is sticking, I just want to know what kind of recovery i can expect and the extent of the damage i have done so far.
You could reasonably expect to have a near full recovery of your lungs within 3 to 6 months.

Well done to you, be determined to keep off them.

I find it easy to give up, usually about 3 times a year.
it actually depends on how long you have been smoking for...ur lungs can heel themselfs

I quit smoking for about 10 days now. Ive had pretty bad gas since then. Is this due to me not smoking? -

I quit smoking about 10 days ago. For the last week or so I-ve had horrible gas all day long and it-s also led to a little bit of constipation. I was wondering if this is mainly due to the non smoking part or maybe that my diet has changed? Or has anyone else who has quit smoking experienced bad gas as a side effect?
i havent had a smoke in about a week and im starting to get some pretty nasty gas. so maybe
Sounds like common withdrawal symptoms to me, so I-d say it does have to do with your quitting smoking. It-s just your body reacting to the lack of nicotine in your body. You-ll adjust to it soon. :)
I had the same problem when I was a youngster. All you need to do is take all of your excess cigarettes and carefully insert then up your rectum. This will block your gas, and help you dispose of your extra cigarettes.

I-m up to 3 packs a day. I can barely breath, and I-m having to panhandle to pay the rent. I-d like to hear how those of you-ve quit did it.
You are displaying the symptoms of someone who is bound by a strong spirit of addiction. You will need a serious lifestyle change to be free from that . Once in Israel, I encountered a lady who lived just by the Armenian quarter who had that same problem. Most times the spirit had already defeated someone in your family and is defeating your family for generations. You are going to have to get professional help. I quit for a month using the Commit lozenges and felt no serious withdrawal.
Some of my friends who have quit smoking say that the patch is the way to go. THis helps with the nicotine cravings. Other friends swear by the gum b.c it gives you some thing to do (chewing) and that will not only help with the cravings for nicotine, but will also help with the habit aspect of smoking where you just smoke b.c it has become habit.

ONE THING: dont hang around with people who smoke in the first couple weeks of trying this. that is one sure way to pull you back in.

Hope things go well for you.
when i quit it was starting to hurt my lungs and i had pnumonia several times, sooooooo had to quit, i got those sunflower seeds that you have to bite out of the shell, i still craved the cigerettes as this is an addiction, i got over it but it takes a long time.........you have to have a very strong mind and stay in control, also you have to REALLY want to stop
get a chest xray that doesnt look right, thats what made me quit, i thought i had lung cancer, but turned out to be old scars from a previous infection. i smoked over 30yrs 2 to 3 packs a day, but i also use skoal in the pouches, for the cravings.but to quit smoking youll either really want to or youll be scared into it, like i was. that was 6months ago.
i think try the niccorete patches or turkey that should help
and try niccorete fresh gum
well you know if you smoke that much cold turkey is out of the question, nicorette gum seems to irritate after awhile, patches causes heart attacks, hynotism may make twist your thinking and you may be head strong and not except it and waste money, accupuncture I heard works but having a millions tiny needles stuck all over your body sounds spooky, so now I hear some kind of flower (passion flower) is used I still need to look that up and see how it works?

I just started, and it-s getting very addictive, I even smoke cigars. Help! I really wanna stop!!
Cold turkey! It-s cheap and easy! All it really takes is the WILL to quit, which you have!
Since you just started you are NOT physically addicted. Remember that. Now all you need is a little willpower, and I have a feeling you have that too.
My hubby and I both quit cold turkey (at different times) after smoking 1-2 packs a day for 15-20 years! The first 3 days are the hardest, then it-s a breeze. Chew gum or suck on hard candies if you need too. I promise you it really isn-t that hard! Then you can be proud to say, -I don-t smoke.-
Bless you and good luck! You can do it! I know you can! :)
Its a good decision that you have taken to quit smoking. The real point is that people smoke for many reasons and many times the reason is that they want to do something and they lit a cigarette. To help that you can try for some substitute when ever you feel like smoking. My friend has the same problem and he took the help of nicotine gum, whenever he felt like smoking he used one. The best point is that he received a free sample of 100 gum to try for free, they helped him and he then continued with them till he quit. I am sure it can help you too, you can also ask for free sample, he got it from the resource included below.. All the Best!!!
You can try
Hey oljika,

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP!
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.

Eventually a friend told me about a NLP method, check out this article:
http://www.squidoo.com/Not_Smoking_Any_M…

It’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!

You can wait until you have emphysema and are on oxygen like I am. I still found it difficult, but was finally able to quit. I would recommend you not wait, though.
The only way to quit is have enough of a set of balls to just quit. Nothing or anyone can help you do that. You just got to stand up and say,- I dont do that anymore-. and mean it.
Most smokers hang around other smokers. You must have a couple friends or co-workers who smoke. Its hard not to light up when your friends are.
What I think will work is this - GET EVERYBODY AROUND YOU INVOLVED IN HELPING YOU QUIT-
Smoking is cool. But quite dangerous. Just relax and take a look at this..
well with most cigarettes, your looking at a 3 year contract, so if you want to terminate your contract it will cost about $150
A good book:

Allen Carr - Easyway to stop smoking.

Available in most good bookstores. Worked for me.... twice!:)
by not smoking anymore
i heard sucking on pretzel rods when you have a craving works really well.
so stop. grow up . you just need integrity.
peace out
Hypnosis worked very well for me...

I quit smoking 2 months ago, since then I keep clearing my throat from phlegm, is that a sign of disease!? -

No, it doesn-t mean disease. It means the lungs are trying to get rid of what you put in there for years. I spit, coughed and hacked for over a year after quitting. It eventually goes away. But if you are concerned that much, go to your doctor and let him check. I hope you are already feeling much better from quitting. Hang in there!
Nope, it means your lungs and body are getting rid of all that phlegm from you smoking for so long...this could take months, so bear with it and get thru it, congrats!
its just your body cleaning itself out

it can take up to 5 months

i stopped over a year ago , and to begin with my cough was way worse than when i ever smoked

it will get better , but if you are unsure , like anything else that worries you medically its best to see a doctor , just for peace of mind

congratulations on stopping smoking , i know how hard it is

all the best
Ian
EVERYONE WHO ANSWERED SO FAR IS CORRECT. YOU ARE CLEANING OUT YOUR LUNGS, IN SIMPLE TERMS. GOOD FOR YOU. IT-S HARD TO QUIT, AND SOMETIMES PEOPLE START SMOKING AGAIN BECAUSE OF THE SYMPTONS YOU DESCRIBE. IT WILL STOP, AND YOU WILL FEEL BETTER.
it is not a disease
the smoke causes irritation of the bronchial tree leading to increase amount of sputum
u can take acetyl cysteine syrup one spoonful 3 times daily for one week and try to stop smoking
