How can I convince my son to quit smoking.? -

You cannot. All you can do is to inform him of the dangers. Inform him of the cost. A one pack a day habit at nearly $5 a pack costs over $1800 per year for one (365 days times $5 per day = $1825). It will cause cancer. Take him to talk with some people who have lung cancer and Emphazima from smoking. Make him see what they have to go through all because of cigarettes. In the end, it is his choice, make it an informed one.
Lung cancer is the worse type of cancer to have.
There is only a 5% survival rate.
The number one cause of lung cancer is smoking.
80% of lung cancer patients will develop a brain tumor within five years.
Lung cancer is hard to prevent because the symptoms of it are something people ignore...cough, sputum....
Once you find out you have lung cancer there is a 75% chance that is has already spread from the lung to other places on the body.
Only 20% off all lung cancer patients qualify for surgery...and even after having surgery your survival rate only goes up to 15%.

Take him to a cancer treatment center let him talk to some of the patients...

Having lung cancer is not a good way to go...you can-t breathe, you can-t do anything, your out of breath after 2 seconds of activity. And the treatment you have to undergo isn-t any better. You have to deal with all the symptoms and side effects..such as loss of taste buds, burnt skin.......
You cannot, he has to want to do it. Then education comes into play.
I-m not really sure, but you can try showing him pictures of the effects of smoking in his body.
Let him watch an open chest surgery of a patient who is a long time smoker. He might be disgusted or maybe even horrified of such scene, and that is effective. Also, you can get him an ashtray of a shape of a lung. So everytime he puts out a cigarette, he can visually see how black that ashtray is getting.

I don-t know how old your son is, but I-m assuming that your son is at least a teenager. He probably thinks smoking is cool, pressured by his friends, of gets his influences from other sources. That does not mean that you can be where ever he is, so you have to talk to him about this and educate him about the cons of smoking. Being dramatic by showing a little emotion won-t hurt either. Good luck
Tell him it-s a turn off....it makes you smell bad and nobody over 16 really thinks anybody is cool who smokes anyway. And it-s always annoying when the smokers are hacking in the middle of class...I-m in college and that-s so annoying.
If he is smoking since long than it is easy to convince him. Get his X Ray AP view of chest. It will show a lot of Patches in Lungs Due to Bronchitis. Also take x ray of some non smoker at the same time - same place with the same doctor - machine. Than ask him why their are patches in his lung - no Patches on non smoker-s Lung? What will happen in longer run if he keeps on smoking? I think he will come on the right track.
