How can I help my husband quit smoking? His Smoking is killing me!? -

okay! when my mom had my older sister this was her approach to make my father quit, She put a picture of my sister in his cigarette boxes and sometimes wrote things like -dont you want to be there for her first dance- or some other important event. So maybe you could put a pic of yourself or if you have children in his cigarette boxes
My wife sounds like you :)

I gave in after some nagging, a few shocks and help from quit smoking instantly.

You should visit the website. It could help you out.
steal his cigarettes
Tell him straight up that you are going to spank him every time he lights up a smoke. Then do it.
Tell him that if he doesn-t stop smoking, you will move out to your neighbor that doesn-t smoke! lol
you might have to leave.
look around for some smoking quitting companies. Look on the internet too for anti smoking pics. If those dont work, you should take some drastic measures. Take away his golf clubs or his driver-s license.
take him to court and sue him....get a restraining order that he cannot smoke withing a certain distance of you .Charge him with assault and battery.
just tell him you-re really worried about him or give him an ultimating, stop or no sex.
my husband would get and walk out of the room when i lit up.
he would ignore me
i quit
stick the patch on him and if he smokes tell him ok honey we-er both going.. good luck explain how much you love and want him around most of all you have to help and suport him. tell him after all the mony he saves from not smoking he can get that new power tool or latest lawn tractor big $$$$$$$$ in smoking
TALK TO YOUR MAN - LAY PHAMPLETS AROUND THE HOUSE ABOUT LUNG CANCER.
There-s a good section on how to help someone stop smoking at the website:
http://www.quitguide.com

When my wife smoked, I to asked her to stop. One day when my birthday was coming she asked me what I wanted, I said for her to stop smoking, same again at xmas and anniversary, valentines day. I tried not to hound her or pick on her. I went a few years with no gifts, but then one xmas, she did it. Thats was 1995. Maybe it can work for you. Best of luck
get him help and go with him to support him. MAIN KEY: SUPPORT SUPPORT SUPPORT. Be patient because it will be hard, but he will be looking to you for motivation.

How did you quit smoking? -

I have quit twice trying to make that step and do it again..help!
hi Michelle

well congrats on your decision.. whatever you do, don-t quit quitting.. i smoked for over 40 years, and had a number of failed attempts to quit.. the only thing i found that helped me, was the support of others, in a support group.. i am a member of nicotine anonymous, and attend meetings both locally, and on line... meetings are as close as your computer.. as well as great support!!!... good luck on your quitting, in the end there is really no wrong way to quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Pick a meaningful date 2 weeks or more from now like th fist of the month. Then count down every day by putting the # of days left till you quit on a slip of paper on your pack, or where you will see it every morning. This will give your brain time to accept the fact that your quiting. On the last day throw the remaining cigaretts away. Realize it-s gonna be tough but you can do it and you-ve been mentally preparing for two weeks, every time you want to give in tell yourself I really want to quit and it-s not going to be any easier later if I don-t do it now. Good luck.
use a patch. those help most people, if you dont want to then try to find some thing that will take up all of your time
just stop thinking about it

What will happen to a person who quits smoking after 18 years? -

my friend has quit smoking now, but she is been smoking for last 18 years. does it have any bad aspect quitting?
No nothing bad will happen. The farther she is away from a cigarette the better she will feel.
I suspect she will go into a detox state in which the body is flushing out all the harmful stuff that nicotine has left. She might get moody, as she has been so used to it, and irritated.
She will probably go into withdrawal and have strong cigarette cravings. However, she will benefit her health enormously.

How do I get my dad to quit smoking? -

My mom quit smoking with no help about three or four years ago, but my dad still smokes. He really wants to quit, but he just can-t. And I also know that he has to want to quit and be determined to quit...and he is...he just can-t. He is 47 years old, if that helps. Do you have any ideas? I-m really worried for him.
Just remind him daily that you love him and please stop smoking so he can continue to love you back.
You want to talk to him about how smoking gives you black lungs and can shorten your life span really fast. Also tell him it wastes money because cigarette-s cost $4.00 a pack.

Hope this helps.

Ultimately it has to be his choice. Quitting smoking is very difficult, so be understanding and patient with him. My best advise is to sit him down and tell him how much it would mean to you for him to quite smoking, that you love him and your worried about his health and you want him to around for a while (your wedding, future grand kids, etc). Also, you give him so ideas of how to quite, like the patch, gum, and hypnosis. Good luck!
It has got to be one of the hardest things to do, and the fact that cigarettes are available everywhere make it so much worse. Here is what I had to go through, and although I won the battle, the war is not over, there is always a temptation.
1) Lots of Vitamin C
2) Get rid of all smoking related items in the house
3) Make a pact, if he quits, you could maybe give up a vice of your own
4) Pray
5) use patches or gums as a last resort, since they provide nicotine
6) make sure he stays active, keep him busy so not to relax and have a smoke. I had to give up my morning coffee, that was my weak moment.
Good luck, be supportive and try to understand what a difficult process it is. Basically, its going through drug withdraw.
Tell him to go to his doctor and tell them he needs help quiting and they will put him on pills to wing him off.
The best way for anyone to quit and not be craving for a cigarette ever after is to be shamed into it. This happened to me accidentally 20 years ago and I have never wanted to smoke again since. If you try it by will power alone the craving will be there continuously.
After I had quit for about 10 years I heard a Tony Robbins seminar in which he basically used the same method of shaming smokers.
Check him in for rehab center, or threatenin him
Steal his cigarrettes, and hide them somewhere where he cannot find them LOL
There-s this really neat new laser surgery out. It-s not too expensive (between 150-350) and what it does is it kills the cravings. I have a friend who got it done and she said it fifn-t hurt at all. A month later she has no interest in having a cigarette!
give him patches and the gum works!! he can do the rewards system! which is every time he wants to but doesn-t smoke he can put a dollar in a jar, but every time he does smoke he must take a dollar out. then at the end he gets something he really really wnats or needs! make sure you really support him!
Congradulations on you wanting to help your Dad to quit smoking. Go to phillipmorris.com and get informatin on quitting smoking they have free phamplets on how to quit smoking. Best Wishes and Happy Smoke Free Living!
Write a uleogy for him. Read it to him. I have heard this being done, and people have been so touched and scared, they quit for good.

-My father was an awesome man. Hard worker, loving, he was always there for me~ until now. I miss him so much already. *sob* He was the first example of a true man to me, a real hero. The man who no other will ever live up to in my life. I love you Daddy, tell Jesus I said Hi. *sob*-

Try that, maybe he-ll remember that when he lights up another cigarette.
There-s a new medication called Chantix that helps with controlling nicotine cravings. It-s expensive, but some insurance companies will pay for it, as it has about a 40 percent success rate. You can also try reminding him that it would be nice if all his grandchildren got to know him. My mother smoked for about 20 years, then quit, but the damage was already done. My son was 3 when she died, and only has vague memories of Grandma.
seek help. one of the best ways is to sit down and talk to him and tell him how you feel. also go to a rehab center.
You have probably already told him how much you afraid that
you may lose him before he gets to see his grandchildren. Be supportive and pickup any literature you can find, wrap it up like a gift and give it to him. I quit after 30 years of smoking and 7 years later cannot understand how I could have smoked for so long. If you are not old enough to purchase Nicorette yourself, give your hard earned money to
someone who is and buy your dad some Nicorette gum. If he
follows the directions, he will be able to quit. For me, it was
easier to get over the nicotine addiction then it was to break
the habit. Your dad should try to smoke at times he normally
wouldn-t and don-t smoke at times he usually does. He should do this for a few weeks to begin to break the habit of
smoking after a meal, with a cup of coffee or whenever he usually stops to light up. Read up on the subject and let him
know you will help him quit. Do not follow him around to check if he is smoking once he says he has quit. Asking how
he is doing too often will only remind him about smoking.
Realize that he will get crabby and touchy because of the
withdrawal and be prepared to go out of your way to assist
him with his normal chores to help relieve the -stress- that he will use as an excuse to light up. Many people that quit smoking sleep a lot more but this will eventually wear off. There is actually less stress when you quit smoking because
the nicotine is a stimulant. Without that stimulant and until his
body adjusts his energy levels may be lower. After a couple of weeks he will have a ton of energy because he will be able
to take in more oxygen so get him out for exercise. He will probably gain weight for 2 reasons. One is his heart rate will
slow down and so will his metablolism. The second reason is
the habit of putting that cigarette in his mouth may be replaced with food. If you really want to help him make sure
there are plenty of carrots and celery or other crunchy low calorie snacks for him to munch on. It will be easier for him to quit if he knows that he will have help and understanding. He may also want to succeed because you worked so hard to assist him and he may not want to disappoint you. It may
take several times before he is successful but if he keeps
trying he will succeed. Good Luck.
I have a friend who quit smoking this way.

You take a regular cigarette and light the end as you would to smoke, and then put it out by smashing it against something flat.

Then take a straw and cut it to the size of a cigarette (like someone above said) and stuff one end with cotton, tissues or whatever.

Dump some burned tobacco out of the end of the cigarette you lit and put out. Take that burned tobacco and put it in the straw.

That way there will be burned tobacco in the middle of the straw with cotton at each end containing it.

When he takes a drag, it will taste like a cigarette, but there will be no nicotine to keep him addicted.

Hope this helps!

If not, try the Nicoderm CQ, Nicorette Gum, or Commit Lozenges, like always.

Also,
http://www.smokersoption.com
offers a cigarette that is entirely filter flavored with menthol or cinnamon (cinnamon is HORRIBLE). There is no tobacco, meaning no nicotine obviously and the menthol are pleasant.

Or at
http://www.mintsnuff.com/
they offer a -chewing tobacco-like- mint chew or puch that, even if you arent a chewing tobacco user, but a smoker, can help the oral fixation during a craving.

Otherwise, just be there for him and tell him that you want him to live a long life and be there for you when you need him.
I tried for years and my Dad did-nt quit until he decided on his own to quit. He might listen to a Dr more than you though. Hopefully, he doesn-t smoke inside the house. If he does he should seriously start smoking outside for your health.
The thing is, you really can-t make someone quit doing anything unless they want to, especially if they are addicted to that particular thing. To be successful requires personal desire, willpower and effort. If the person isn-t 100% ready to give up the habit it will be nearly impossible for them to do so - or for you to get them to do so.

That said, you can compassionately express to your father that you worry for his health and you want him to be around in the years to come. Don-t present too much pressure or chide him though, because he might get defensive and feel like he-s just being nagged.

If he does want to quit you can help him by encouraging him, helping him to get rid of items in the home which remind him of smoking (ash trays, matches, lighters,) and other things. Buy him substitutes like candies, peppermints, gum, toothpicks. Find some activity he might enjoy that requires working with his hands - smoking is very much a way to occupy the hands and mouth... if you keep them busy with other things the desire isn-t so bad.

Staying busy in general helps. Exercising, being outside, and otherwise being physically active tends to reduce that feeling of needing a smoke.

If he can-t quit cold turkey, you can try to encourage him to cut down. Make goals. If he smokes a pack a day now, try to get him to agree to smoke only 15 cigarettes for the next couple of days. Then maybe just 12 a day. Keep reducing in small incriments every couple of days, before going completely off the habit.

It could be harder if he drinks alcohol or coffee, because those items tend to lend themselves to going along with a smoke. I know when I quit smoking it was very hard when it came to my morning and evening coffee because I had always had a smoke with them. I finally quit drinking the coffee too and it helped break that desire.

Those are all just some tips. But in the end, he can only do it if he really wants to. You can just be there to help and encourage him if he needs it. Good luck!
some people have stronger will power than others here it looks as if your dad needs a bit of encouragement, try motivate him into doing something that distracts him from smoking and take him to non smoking places another thing is calculate with him how much he spends on cigarettes per month and per year and how much he would spend in 5 years this tends to turn people off due to the shock of how much money their actually wasting,
Duct tape his mouth shut and if he tries to smoke, use a taser...( yes I know it-s drastic, but smoking kills...both my parents, one grandparent and one of my bosses died from smoking...)
hypnosis works for people that have a hard time quitting.

http://www.quitsmoking.com/info/articles…

Start coughing around him. And if he goes outside, go outside and stand next to him when he smokes but like be loving about it. Take the cigarette out of his hand, throw it away and put your hand in his hand instead. Then look him straight in the eye. Then sad puppy face.

My god, I should be a movie director.
try your best to explain to him. if he is not listining just frighten him by saying that you will leave the house.
There is a book called Allen Carr-s Easy Way to Quit Smoking. I t seems simplistic but it addresses the rooot of it all. I still smoke as I read it but for the first time in my life....I look forward to quitting. Give it to him for Father-s Day and support him as he reads it. And don-t talk down to him while he is going through the process. Support, not lectures is what he needs.
You need to talk with him. Tell him that you are worried that he won-t be there to walk you down the aisle when you get married if he keeps smoking. Don-t nag him but just tell him that you wish he would think about quitting. He can get a patch from a doctor and that really helps. Also, he has to break the addiction of the -hand to mouth.- Tell him to take white plastic drinking straws (the size of McDonalds), cut to the length of a cigarette, stuff with cotton from a cotton ball, and then place one in each clean ashtray. Then he can puff away on those. It feels good. It only takes 3 days to get the nicotine out of his body, then he has to break the enjoyment of smoking. Good luck.
Talk to him about it. Tell him how it is really effecting your family, health, and moolah. If that doesn-t work try a patch. Or keep stealing his ciggys and trashing them.
if you do figure this one out please tell me, im trying to get my friend to quiet but every time i ask him he just tells me its to hard.... so if you have any tricks i would like to know.
sweetie all you can do is be there for him and show him you love him. addictions are hard to deal with. i have a food addiction and i can-t get over it, i can-t imagine what it would be like to be addicted to something more sinister.
tell him it hurt to see him that way
Make him watch the - Why do you think- anti-smoking commercials.
There are special gums/patches sold to lower the urge for the nicotine in the cigarette. Your father should be able to get it from your area-s pharmacy or through doctor-s prescription.

Or if he is really able to do it without those patches or gums, decrease the quantity of cigarettes smoked over time.

What is the best way to quit smoking once and for all, short of death.? -

I want to quit, but I need help and not from Phillip Morris.
Ok this is the way i quit. It kinda sounds bad but it works.

you know when you drink you smoke a lot. well one night i ended up smoking like 2 packs in 5 hours. the next morning my throut was sooo raw. and my lungs hurt sooo bad. I didnt want a cigerette the next day at all. So i didnt smoke all day. and then the next day my throut still hurt bad so i didnt smoke then either. well the next day i was like if i can go 2 days i can go 3. so i did. then everytime i craved a cig i chewed gum or ate something. i did gain like 10 pounds. but it was worth it. and easy to lose since i wasnt weezing everytime i went running. and about after 8-10 days you stop craving them for good. Im not going to lie every once and a while i want one. but i just chew some gum or try not to think about it. It works and it-s free.
you could try to get the patch, gum, and keep your hands busy.
The best way to quit is to go cold turkey. Just stop smoking. Other things, patch, gum can still give you the small amounts of nicotine but you need to STOP go through the with drawl. Tough it out. If you are serious about it and you do it for you not for ANYONE or ANYTHING else, it will happen. Good luck!
Smoking is a very hard habit to quit. I, myself, have never smoked but everyone in my family has or do. When I met my husband, he smoked 2 packs a day and smoked that for 13 years. He tried gum, it didn-t work, he tried quitting cold turkey, that REALLY didn-t work. Then he tried the patch. It took a while, but eventually it did work. It takes a lot of self control and understanding from your family, but you can do it. You have to understand that at first, you will be angry a lot. You will feel like something is missing. My husband found that chewing sugar free gum helped a lot. He also chews on straws or pens, I know that weird, but just to be doing something with his hands and his mouth kept his mind off of smoking. The patch is quite expensive, but compared to how much you spend on cigarettes in a year, it-s worth it. You have to have support from family and friends and just make sure that you do something in order to keep your mind off of smoking. It has now been over a year since my husband has stopped and he is now healthier and happier than he has ever been. I wish you luck, this is going to be one of the hardest things you-ve ever done.
Haven-t you seen those folks pulling a tank of oxygen around with them? Can you see yourself with one? How about coughing yourself into unconsciousness? Or being paralyzed with a stroke? Come on, use your imagination. There-s lots of ways to quit. How about for your family/kids? Oh, here-s one... what about the money you-ll save not having to buy cigarettes and oxygen tanks and stuff? I got DSL and a whole bunch of other things with the $150/month I-m saving by not buying smokes.
Quitting is very hard but until you have spent the day with someone with either emphysema, or lung cancer, it-s difficult to know the repercussions. I am a nurse and trust me, it-s not a pretty site. I hope if you haven-t tried the nicotine patch, or gum, give them a shot. You definitely have to want to quit. It-s a rough road but just think of the rewards. Good luck..I hope you can beat this!
Stopping smoking takes guts. It is a really hard thing to stop because even second hand smoke can send you back. Here are a few suggestions.

No smoking allowed in your house or car, not even by family.

Don-t have that cup of coffee after a meal, a smoke seems to go with it.

Don-t go into bars and bowling alleys for awhile. They smell of smoke even when no one is smoking.

Talk to you doctor and see is one of the patches work for you.

The other thing is to keep you hands busy, if something is in your hands no room for a smoke.

Good luck.

Trying to quit smoking any help? -

i am trying to quit smoking but i dont want to use patches how else can i quit naturally or watever
Well i don-t know about naturally but i can def tell you a way that work amazing for me. I had been a smoker for many years and had been also quitting for many years also. i recently got introduced to these smokeless cigarettes. I was very skeptical at first but i saw something about them on CNN so i bought them and i couldn-t be happier. I haven-t had a real cigarette in over three months. def check these out

Nicotine gum helps. Or you could read the dangers of smoking, and how those close to you are in danger too. that could make you think and want to try harder to stop, so it will be easier. put yourself with close people who you smoke around a lot, and see if you can resist. that odd cigarette may be tempting, but be strong, brave and listen to help others can give. Good luck x
I quite May 1st - couldn-t have done it w/out the new drug Chantex.

I know you said naturally but just thought I would tell you anyways. This drug made it so easy. It took the urge right away. The habit part was the hardest. If I would have known about this drug I would have stopped long ago.

Good Luck!!!
Drink more water, exercise more, minimize stress and eat a better diet. This may all help you quit faster.

How do I Quit smoking ???I am 47 yrs male, overweight, started smoking due to clinical depression when i was 18. -

Now I am sufferring from Unpredictible Angina, and the cardiologist has asked me to quit smoking which I CANNOT as i am still taking ant depressants from my psychiatrist.I also have hypertension and i am on heavy medication from all this including slip disc which gives me pain in my legs and I cannot walk to exversice 4 more than 20 minnutes.
Can some one save my soul ???? .........Rajiv .S
29 years!
It is really a hard work.
I was a smoker for 25 years and I had quit smoking for over six times ,but never really quit smoking before.Just after I read that quit smoking program, I realized how easy quitting smoking was.I am a non-smoker now! I highly recommend this program to you.It really works. You can check out
http://quit-smoking-in-3-hours.info

Good luck!
Ask God to give you the desire to quit.
Nothing will work until YOU make up your mind that you have smoked your last cigarette. I tried many times but I was always bumming a cigarette. Then thru the grace of God I made up my mind. I still like to smell fresh smoke but have no desire for one after 6 yrs. I did gain weight but I am working on that as a separate situation. Pray. Don-t look for an excuse to smoke. Eliminate them from your sight. I have all your ailments, too. Good Luck
A friend of mine tried laser and it worked !!! He went into the laser procedure, 100% convinced that it would NOT work, but it did. He was a heavy smoker - almost 2 packs a day. Also, I-ve heard that the new drug Chantix is the latest and best method to quit smoking. Good luck !!!
I dont think there is a big deal with quitting smoking cos ur taking antidepressants... the good outweighs any bad. And I-ve never heard of it being an issue. Has your psychiatrist seriously told you to continue smoking?!?!
Stop making excuses.

And make sure you eat low calorie fruit and vegetables and whole grains.
I started smoking when 17. Within a month I was smoking 150 to 200 unfiltered cigarettes a day. Did this for ten years.

Yet quit it one evening in 1967 and never smoked again.

Fear was the key. Nothing else worked till then.

Just quit smoking cold turkey --need some advice? -

WHat can I do in order to diminish the physical damage t did to me, such as wrinkled face and hands, deteriorated physical condition (i still cant run more than 1.5 km in one go), stained teeth, etc etc thanks

i am 25 yo male
Work out a lot! this will help releasing stress and reduce the craves!

use a anti-wrinkle cream, do some aerobic excercises it-ll help to repair your lungs

nyway, u r young by when u r 30 your body will be like brand new (of course if u dont go back to smoking again!)
your body will repair itself a little. such as your lungs will take a while but will slowly start to repair. you will notice this by the coughing you experiencing after you stopped and the tingling and itching of your throat and lungs. thats your tiny hairs which exist in your throat and lungs growing back, because you have singed them by the hot smoke. your young and your body can still reapair itself rather well now. it-s a good thing you stopped at this age and didn-t go into your 30-s with it, then you would have proabably had some probs. by the way you did it......... cold turkey is the only real way to quit. because it takes mind power to stop something, not more chemicals that you will depend on. good job man, just don-t fall back.
The best thing you can do is to not start up again. You can-t do much about the skin (probably not that much damage was done, since you-re only 25), except take care of it from here on out, but you can get your teeth whitened, etc. Your lungs will feel much better after a few weeks.
You will recover, you are young. Remember that a nicotine fit only lasts for 3 minutes max. At first they will be frequent, but they will recede after some time.

Good luck.
By the time your 35 you will have undid alot of the damage just by time alone.
go into rehab

now what? you start saving for your congratulatory holiday with the money ull save!!xx well done
Just keep saying no to yourself and to people that offer. Carry a sealed pack with you, and just keep saying, not now.
I smoke. I hate it- I wish I was you! It is GROSS HAbit! It smells and people look down on you! Its the best thing you can do- wish i had your will power! Good Luck and dont smoke- think of all of us smokers who envy you!
COngratulations!!!!

I have smoked for 32 years..... QUIT NOW while it is a tiny bit easier.

PLEASE.

I quit at 9:30 a.m. August 4th..... I celebrated my quit by;;;;

smoking TWO STINKING cigarettes! Now I am suffering ALL over again!
After three days YOUR body and brains are with out nicotine.... after that it is a matter of KNOWING you WILL be tired, YOU will feel BLAH and have anxiety. Just remember that ALL of these things are NORMAL and will pass. Eat a lot of fresh fruit and drink a lot of water too.
I am NOT giving up on my -quit- , YOU wont either (c:
Get outside and do something, go to a movie, go to the library. Some place you wont associate with smoking. Keep the mind busy and soon you will forget all about it.

Just dont turn to food to satisfy those urges...
Find other things to replace the addiction. Don-t turn to food, which is a mistake some make causing weight gain (And the movement of hand to mouth is soothing in a psychological way). If you can find a sport or something healthy for your body go for it!

Congratulations and don-t stress out. You can do this. :)
WOO HOO!!! WELCOME TO MY WORLD!! YOU-RE WELCOME TO STAY!! Oh, Congratulations!! I knew you could do it!! And, you reading this.....you can, too!! My Mom quit after 40 yrs!!!!!
Not really, because 24 hours isn-t near enough to say that you -quit.- Just keep at it and keep considering the consequences if you start again.
Great job on the 24 hours! Chew gum, get some sunflower seeds, suck on licorice sticks... those are all things that my mom did when she quit. She was a heavy smoker for at least 30 years. You can do it!!! Be kind to yourself. :)
I quit smoking!!! now what? -

I just started the patch. Did you smoke while wearing it? Is there anything I should know? It itches and feels hot.
I quit smoking over ten years ago and I use the patch to help me out. You need to look at the patch as a tool and not a crutch. That is the most important point. You have to be all in to quit and be dedicated to making yourself a person who does not smoke.
I did have burning and itching each time I put a new patch on and what I would do is smack it. It would kinda help get rid of the burning and itching sensation. The burning and itching would usually go away within an hour of putting it on - and when you get to the lower dose patches it does not happen as badly. (It is the nicotine entering your skin/blood)
Absolutley DO NOT smoke when you have the patch on! It will make you want to vomit from every opening in your body. Seriously, it will make you ILL.
u must not smoke while wearing the patch
I have the patch now. I started with 21mg and I have the 14mg now....and 7mg to end the process. Yes I experience the hot and itching. I do NOT smoke anymore, but yes you can wear the patch and smoke. I do not recommend it though. Just quit all together is the best thing. I know how you feel though, it sucks but it will save your life in the long run. Good luck to you in your venture.
Watch for redness around the patch...I tired using it too, and had the burning and itching, came to find out I was having an allergic reaction to it. So, instead I tried the gum, which was too much of a hassle, then I got a smooth river rock (my worry stone) and kept it in my pocket and every time I felt like smoking I would rub the rock...stupid maybe but, it got me through the cravings...I stayed off six months (longer than ever before without being pregnant) before I gave into a craving..hoping to try again soon....It-s not easy, but you can do it Good Luck!

By the way if you smoke while wearing the patch you can have a nicotine overdose and become sick...
I am not really sure, i know you are NOT supposed to smoke while you have that patch on. I used to smoke, my best adivice os to just go cold turkey, forget all these patches, and gums.............just have the self power and stop!!
I-m 24 and was 20 a day for about 9 years. I quit in the middle of January, and am still going strong. I used the patches for 4 days, to take the edge off the cravings, then gave them up, I think they are mainly just a placebo. 2 months down I-m still getting the cravings, but there not so bad. If your thinking of quitting be prepared to maybe put on a few pounds - nothing too severe, but good luck, you will totally feel the benefits if you can keep it up for a month or so
All the Best.

How did you quit smoking? -

I need some motivation. I-m super grouchy and I need some help!
by always haning hard sugar free candies in ny wallet. everytime i feel the urge to smoke, i will chew one candy
and it helps, really
Allen Carr-s book: -The Easy Way to Quit Smoking-. I-m off them 5 years now. I quit overnight, no cold turkey, no withdrawl symtoms, just like that. I strongly recommend it. I know 8 other people who quit after reading it, and none have gone back on them.

He also set up clinics to help people too. you should maybe check out one of them.

You can do it! It isn-t anywhere near as hard as you think it is and the benefits, well, you know all about them, don-t you?
The shortest and least stressful way to cover any withdrawals is to get some powerful help.
Get yourself a -buddy-,- a friend, or family - to be there when you need them for encouragement and diversion.
Keep healthy snacks on hand and lots of fruit juice and water for the first week or so. Exercise and occupying your time with a new hobby or skill should replace your old smoking time.
In fact there are 100s of effective strategies for quitting smoking, but remember, don-t just try - do it, and don-t think you will suffer - turn your mind to the reasons you are quitting, the benefits, and how good you-ll feel when you-re smoke-free.
The physical addiction to nicotine is gone in 2-3 days, so the rest is habitual, and psychological. There-s lots of tips, info and free help at

plus a great guaranteed course you can do to make the whole process easier on yourself. This course powerfully guides you to re-program the desire to smoke right out of your life. Check out:

I have not quit yet, it-s really very hard to do such. If you find a good answer, please share it with me. Thanks and good luck.
You can find another hobby or you can chew on a straw that-s what my friends dad did
I was able to stop smoking by taking chewable tablets, like CigArrest tablets This helped me to overcome the urge to smoke whenever and where ever I feel like smoking.
It is hard. But you have to stay focused and commit. Avoid the urger. Get up and take a walk. have a glass of water. Just continue to stay away from the cigs. It is hardest for the first few hours and days. Avoid coffee and alcholoic beverages.
I was prescribed Chantix to help me quit but it gave me terrible nausea. In searching the web to find another stop smoking med, I found Zyban, and in reading it I realized it had the same components as my anti depressant, Wellbutrin. I stopped smoking that minute and didn-t even feel any craving. On June 8 it will have been 8 months and not even a desire to puff.

Bottom line: Zyban worked for me!

-
I-ve never actually smoked before but, you should probably chew a lot of gum, excercize, drink lots of water, and go to your doctor, and then your dentist, because he or she can tell you about all those gum desieses.
I know it-s hard. Because my best friend had to go through quitting smoking. So, we both made up a plan for her. For two week she would have to do it. She would drink coffee in the morning, instead of having her usual cigarrette. Her kids hung up NO SMOKING sign all around the house, and everytime they caught her smoking or smelt the smoke, they-d give her the guilt trip. And she-d have to start over [we marked each day she didn-t smoke].
Chew gum everytime you have an urge to smoke. I don-t remember much from it, so sorry. But I hope what I got helps you.
If you have a friend who also wants to quit, you should do it with them.

What are some good ways to help quit smoking? -

ive been smoking for 10 yrs now, and have alot of stress in my life. ive always used cigarettes to deal with it... what can i do???
Credentials: I used to be a heavy smoker (3 packs/day, menthol). Quit previously 3 times. The last time took. Non-smoker for over 15 years.

For me, the hardest part about quitting was removing all of the associations around smoking. Example, whenever I had a beer, I had a cigarette. Whenever I finished eating, had a cigarette. You get the idea. I purposely and deliberately -weeded out- all the associations I had with smoking until I only had a few. In other words, I consciously did not smoke after each of these other co-occurring activities, until the urge was diminished. Once this was done, I had already reduced my smoking to a few cigarettes a day. To completely quit, it was a combination of negative imagery and getting the flu. I imagined coating my lungs with a thick goo of tar and nicotine while I smoked. I was never able to smoke when I had a cold or the flu, so after 5 days of various orifice purging, I realized I could probably go another few days without. Bottom line for me: discipline of living how you want.
As for the stress, good time to involve yourself in a very detailed kind of hobby, like model rocketry or exercise like biking. If you can weather through the first few days, you-ll start to feel the benefit of being able to breathe without getting winded, and smell wonderful scents of nature and/or aromas of baking and cooking seemingly for the first time! Good Luck!
One good way to taper the nicotine level down slowly over time is to smoke one less cigarette daily each week until you get to one cigarette per day for the last week. After that carry one cigarette with you (so you don-t borrow one) for the next several weeks but don-t smoke it. Then throw it away. Good luck.
I-m in the same boat. I-d say your BEST bet is to talk to your doctor about the new prescription quiting aids on the market. The gum, patch and lozenge did-t help me. Good luck.
you have to replace your habit with something like excersize for example. any time you want a smoke, go for a walk. pretty soon youll be too tired to want to smoke, and viola! you quit!
ok, well its not that easy but it is true and i wish you all the luck in the world...
Welbutrin is an anti-depressant that helps you quit smoking.

Normally I would not suggest an anti-depressant to someone, but quitting smoking is VERY hard emotionally and the withdrawals can cause severe depression or feeling like your losing your mind... to some people.

With Welbutrin you have a small window of oppertunity to quit... When you get to that window of time, the cigarettes smell and taste SO nasty that they make you gag... (Trust me).... Using the welbutrin combined with a patch will help you...

As for the habit of putting hand to mouth, which is very hard to lose... Try sucking on a straw, or sugar free lillipops....

Just my suggestion on how I did it...

According to 20/20.... Cold Turkey RARELY works for the long haul....

Tawny
Go cold turkey
go out side fpr a smok and time your self and go for a work
TRY ROLLING YOUR OWN YOU WILL SOON GET SICK OF THE TASTE !
IF YOU SMOKE 10 TODAY SMOKE 9 TOMORROW AND SO ON DAILY
WHEN YOU BUY THEM NEVER HAVE THEM IN THE SAME ROOM AS YOU

Whats the best way to cope with being around a person quitting smoking? -

I-m living with a smoker constantly trying to quit who does not believe that quittng smoking affects his mood. Right now I-m hoping that it-s go to be the cigaretttes because if he is naturally this way.......
Nicotine withdrawal can make a person very irritable and depressed. The symptoms usually peak after two or three days and then improve.
Avoidance can be a wonderful thing. Find excuses to stay away from your roommate.
MY BOYFREIND GETS ALMOST POSTAL WHEN HE RUNS OUT OF HIS SWISHER SWEET CIGARELLOS, SO I UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN. HE IS NOT BEING A SNOT CUZ THAT IS THE WAY HE IS NORMALLY. HIS BODY/MIND IS GOING THRU A WITHDRAWL. THIS IS WHY HE IS HAVING SEVERE MOOD SWINGS. HE MAY WANT TO CONSULT A PHYSICIAN OR AT LEAST SOMEONE AT THE HEALTH UNIT, TO SEE IF THEY CAN GIVE HIM SOMETHING FOR IT, OR IN THE VERY LEAST, TRY SOMETHING OVER THE COUNTER. IF HE WON-T DO THIS, OR IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE, TRY JUST LEAVING HIM ALONE FOR A BIT, SLIPPING A FEW BENEDRYL IN HIS COFFEE IN THE MORNINGS (HAHA), OR SLUGGING HIM UPSIDE THE HEAD (PULL A -MADEA- ON HIM LOL). GOOD LUCK! I HOPE HE IS SUCCESSFUL IN QUITTING. IT IS VERY HARD TO DO WITHOUT A SUPPORT SYSTEM AND MEDICAL HELP. I WISH HIM WELL!!!!
Give him his space. Compliment him when he succeeds and don-t even mention cigarettes when he -fails-. The struggle he is having with that nicotine is probably so strong, he doesn-t even realize it affects his mood.
Keep their mind occupied and go out even if it is to do shopping, a lot of smokers do it because they are bored, go to places where you cant smoke for a few hours so they get used to it, watch sporting events where people are not smoking, cafes where you cant smoke, go for walks, and get involved in a hobby something the person is interested in , if they are not sure try a few things to see.
i can vouch for the fact that quitting smoking does affect your mood, i have just recently quit, i guess the best way to deal with it would be to just be patient, give it time, he will eventually return to normal.
First, if he gets irritable and starts an argument, be very calm, loving and caring. Do NOT constantly tell him his moods are from quitting smoking cause that will irritate him more. Do help him find things to do such as rent movies...go bowling etc. I took up knitting and knit enough scarves to circle the planet LOL. I found the patch to be very helpful while my fiance liked the nicotine gum. He should try one or the other.....or the pill Zyban

Trying to quit smoking and Ive heard about a device that is like smoking a cigarette but not really? -

Does anyone know what this is called or where I can find more information about it. I-m told it even blows smoke or something but there-s no real nicotine or tobacco. I-m interested in the pros and cons if anyone has used it before and if there are any risks involved. Thank you!
I know exactly what you are talking about...

They have cartridges that include the same amount of nicotine as 2 cartons.

They do not stink and they do not have tar and other chemicals that cigarettes have...

UNFORTUNATELY, I know a few people that use them, they LOVE them so much that now they do not want to quit!!!

I didn-t realize this until I went to this site...There is a high-low-and NO which helps you digress!!!

I hope this helps... YOU CAN DO IT!!!

http://www.smokelessdelite.com/

just think of this sentence every time you smoke:
death is right by the next corner and the corner is the cigarette

chew gum, it always helps. throw away al your cigarette packs and do something to take away the emotion to smoke. knit, draw, hang with friends who dont smoke, sleep, watch a movie.
Not sure if this is what you mean, but I attend the University of Auckland in New Zealand and I read about an electronic cigarette that was being researched there. This article came out in the beginning of 2008, so maybe the electronic cigarette is publicly available now.
There-s a cigarette that makes something similar to smoke. I has a cartridge that has to be changed. It-s battery powered and has to be charged. You can get them with or without nicotine. I don-t remember the name.

Google it....
hey its nothing but e cigarette also known as personal vaporizer
it provides less dose of nicotine by way of vaporized solution
your decision is appreciable
you can use it
i brought it from this site with free shipping
all the best!
I Have no idea what it is called but it is made in englad, its a tube filled with niccatine and you inhale vapor, no tar etc, veryy good, im sorry i didnt know the name PLus no 2nd hand smoke
that-s an electronic cigarette http://juststopsmoking.net/
Don-t know if the fake cigarettes work .
yah its called e-cigarette i dont know much about it i heard of it though
why is quitting smoking so hard....
you-re talking about ecigarette but is not safe and they are not fda approved. You should quit smoking all toghether.Like many others I smoked when I was young but managed to kick the habit before I was totally hooked, I was lucky and suffered no damage to my health. But for a close friend it was different, even though she was only a moderate smoker, her health was being seriously affected and getting worse with time.

Now this is where I really sympathize with smokers. She like many smokers knew the dangers and had genuinely tried many different ways to quit smoking. She tried patches, hypnosis and read several books on the subject of quitting, nothing had worked. She always ended back at square one, knowing she needed to quit, but how, nothing had a lasting effect. That was until she tried Smoke Deter.

So why am I telling this, because I played a small part in her success. You see I heard about Smoke Deter through my son, his best mate had quit smoking using Smoke Deter and I convinced my friend to try it. She was very skeptical, but I was so concerned about her health that I said that if it didn-t work I would pay for it, so she had nothing to lose and that convinced her. That was a year and five months ago, it worked and she is no longer a smoker, she has never has the urge to smoke since she quit using Smoke Deter, that-s a fact and it-s the only product she tried that she-s happy to tell others about.

Smoke Deter is an herbal based liquid oral spray that is used 3 times a day, this is also supplemented with herbal pills which when combined is very effective at reducing your nicotine cravings. How quickly it works depends on the extent of your habit, it can work as quickly as 2 weeks or may take 3 months, regardless of the time, your health is worth the effort to kick your smoking habit.

Smoke Deter also offers a lifetime free membership support program, so you are never on your own, help is available 24 hours a day if you feel the need, like if your resolve is weakening. That-s what I like about Smoke Deter it changes your whole attitude to smoking, it works on your mind as well as your body. Unfortunately I-ve seen the damage smoking has done within my own family and also in my circle of friends, consequently I-m fully aware just how hard it is to stop smoking without some kind of help. I-ve seen first hand how Smoke Deter helped my friend quit smoking and so it-s not surprising she can-t say enough about it. So if this article brings Smoke Deter to your attention and as a result helps you kick the smoking habit, then for me writing about it has been worthwhile.

So if you-ve been wondering if these quit smoking products work, well I guess some do and some don-t, but one that has my recommendation is Smoke Deter, I-ve personally seen it work when other methods failed. I-m happy to pass that information on so that others looking for a safe natural way to quit can try Smoke Deter if they wish.

If you would like more helpful information on Smoke Deter or other free quit smoking information, you may like to visit the url in the source box below. It seems to confirm some of my comments and is dedicated to helping smokers improve their health, fitness and beat the smoking habit.
