I quit smoking 2 weeks ago today. how long will it be before i feel the benefits? -

i was a smoker for 30 years, and as far as doctors say i am in good health.
long time... sorry to say but I think it was about 6 months before I really felt better. The first 4 were terrible and the the 5th I got sick and I was well into the 6th before I felt any better. After that though it-s a cake walk. you can also take into consideration I work in a casino and still breathe in 2nd hand smoke so it might be better for you than me. and then again you smoked almost 2x as long as I smoked. there are many factors I hope you are one of the lucky ones. but just a warning it will get worse before it gets better but it is very worth it in the end. Keep up the good work and stick with it. you will feel better soon.
Idk, but I just wanted say, great job for quitting after 30 years!!!!! Woo Hoo!!!! You-re awesome!!!!!!!! :)
i quit 7 days ago after smoking both cigarettes and pot for almost 20 years, right now i feel absolutely terrible, i am having vivid dreams ALL NIGHT LONG, i wake up more tired than i was when i went to bed, i am lightheaded, my gi tract is playing up, i have cold and hot sweats during the day, i am fatigued during the day but bizarlley seem to re-energise in the evening, i just feel awful BUT i knew to expect some pretty bad physical symptoms, i will not go back to smoking and i know these side effects will eventually fade
It depends on the person. My dad was a really heavy smoker and he said that after he quite it was the best thing ever and probably saved his life. I don-t know how long it will take for you, but you-ll feel it when you realize that you don-t need smoking to get on with your life.
You already are feeling the benefits. You already have extra money in your wallet and do not have that smoke smell. Soon, your health will improve too. Good job!!! You should be very proud of yourself!!
It has been 7 yrs since I quit. Best thing I ever did for me and my family. (Pssst....My secret for hand to mouth thing was a bottle of water at all times). I also started walking right away, which turned into running when I started feeling so good. The more you sweat, the more toxins you are removing from all of that stuff in your body . Once you gain that new sense of smell and that feeling of achieving what was once the impossible...you will never go back (depending on your outlook on life). Hurray for you and a healthy life. Get to sweatin those toxins out...ur gonna start feeling good.
I quit three years ago and am still waiting to -feel- anything. I think if you are in good shape you won-t feel much difference. But your pocketbook thanks you...5 bucks a pack....wow!!

When you get down to your last 6 in the packet then stop, don-t throw them away because panic attack can set in when you know you have none.Keep telling yourself they are there just in case you get desperate, i did that for 6 months before i had the guts to throw them away for good. Best move i have ever made they are a disgusting habit and very hard to get rid of, my coughing got worse after i gave them up until my system cleared all the tar out, yuk!
Good luck with it.
hey I quit today too- but I got a script of Chantix from my doc and it lessens the craving for the nicotine. Thing that I find disturbing is I feel very out of sorts and very tired too!
See if you can get this script, try it out and see what it does for ya, GOOD LUCK!!
Very tuff. Nicotine is really one of the most addictive chemicals, and the tobacco companies have made sure that you become addicted fast!!!

There are lots of things out there that really work, patches, support groups, some new meds. I think the thing that helped me the most was to sit across from a colleague and watch her as he became out of breath every time she laughed. And the sound of mucus bubbling in her lungs too.... and I thought to myself, OMG, that could be me in 30 years. I found every piece of photography I could that was showing what smoking did to my lungs....EVERYTHING!!!

Some of the things I used: No coffee in the morning, when a cig. was really great, brushed my teeth as soon as I ate, no wine, cuz cigs are great with wine, and I kept the image of that lady in my mind. I also out of curiosity went to one of the hospitals and asked to see a cancerous lung after a surgery where it was removed. (If you have a friend who is a nurse, maybe she can get you in).

I was truly a dedicated smoker... had 7 smoked before I even got out of bed in the morning, and smoked 3 packs a day. Sweetie, if I can do it, you can too.

Good luck, hon, you can do it. It is one gross habit.
the easiest thign to do is to read this book
it helped over millions of ppl to stop smoking
it helped ashton kutcher lol
and my history teacher as well
the name is -the easy way to stop smoking- and the author is Alan Carr
its pretty easy u jsut ahve to read it and it helps
i think its betetr than using some patches or medicine
and if u dont like reading then jsut like make a sacrifice adn read this one book
my advise is you must create a new hobby.
Congratulations for making the decision! I treat smokers and for the majority smoking is an addiction, which is not recognised by mainstream -quit smoking- methods. Firstly note that it is NOT a nicotine addiction! Don-t waste your money on NRT. Secondly, the habit is easily knocked over by steadfast intention because it was created by repetition and the setting up of a -trigger-! Ultimately it is your unconscious mind belief system being triggered, possibly by a chemical in the cigarette such as chocolate or cinnamon. Or from a deep memory of someone you idolised as a child, and seeing them smoke at the age you now are. Do a search on the name Peter Zapfella.
ive quite to today and so far i dont want one because its all in ur mind
u have to do things to keep u busy anu sud eat candy suck on a lolly pop ect
Learn to identify the triggers for smoking and then find something else to do, this will short circuit the cravings. Do not replace one drug habit with another.
Good for you and best of luck! Here-s how I quit:

Wean yourself off of them (ie 10 today, 9 tomorrow, 8 the next day and so on).

If that doesn-t work, go visit the chemotherapy ward at your local hospital. I decided to quit when I started taking my father to his treatments. Really makes you think about those warning labels on the sides of cigarette packages when you see people hooked up to IVs for hours, losing their hair, etc. (not that all people who develop cancer were smokers).

...Have a little Kid come up to you - say, -Eww-You SMELL!- Works like a charm... :)
The one essential element is to actually decide to do so. Your body will scream at you for a butt, but it is not in charge; your mind is, and you can tell your body to shut the f--k up and leave you alone. This will not be easy, as nicotine is one of the most addictive substances known, but it can be done. My father smoked for years. One day, my mother noticed that she had not seen him smoking recently, and inquired. -I quit,- said he, and that was that.
Cold turkey. First you have to decide that you are going to quit, not try to quit. Just quit. Then throw away all your cigs and not in the garbage in the kitchen. I mean at a gas station trash can. Clean out and put away your ashtrays, clean your house, because everything has tar all over it. You may have to change your routine. Like if you had a cigarette with coffee, you may need to drink hot chocolate for a while. That was the hard part for me. Not having a cigarette after meals or with my coffee. Otherwise just keep yourself busy. Drink water or something not bad for you when you feel like lighting up. I went through three days of a terrible headache. Then I didn’t feel like I needed one. After that it was breaking the habit of having one that was hard. Oh, have something healthy that you can munch on when you feel like a cig. I used hard candy, not healthy, but quick. It’s having something in you mouth that makes the habit hard to break.
Good luck
Whew, I just quit smoking last year after 22 years. I personally used Wellbutrin XL but hell I was on it for 3 years before I finally layed them down. But after all that even though its rough, the best way is cold turkey. I-ve heard many people swear on lemon drops candy for the cravings and it does work. Just do like I did, everytime you light that cigarette just look at it and think why the hell do I smoke this nasty tasting thing, it makes me stink, it makes my teeth yellow, I cough, I gag and for this stupid thing that just burns away and all this money I spend on it and just keep telling yourself that and it does actually make you turn against them. Mind over matter, you keep telling you mind this and eventually you mind will make the matter work for ya and walk. Theres nothing like a walk on a beautiful day breathing in the air and realizing how much better you can breathe and also taste food

Hope this helps....
Hooray for the answer provided by -rhsaunders.- That is exactly how I quit in 1985. I simply refused to let a chemical control me.

If you drink, stop at the same time you quit smoking and don-t drink for at last 2 months. I found that my drinking and smoking were so inter-connected that if I had a drink while trying to quit, it was all over. I stopped drinking and successfully quit smoking.

Hello There,

This might not be the best way, but very close.

My wife smoked for over 10 years and when she found out that she was pregnant with our now newborn 3 months old daughter, she had promised me that if I found a good solution for quitting, she will try her best to kick the habit.

Well in my spare time I started researching online for quit smoking programs, meanwhile she was trying out patches and gums that you can buy at grocery stores and adventually they would not work for her.

After about a week of researching I had stumbled over a website that really impressed me on what they had to offer and that they actually say that they can almost guarantee your success, and most importantly that you can try it out for free.

The company has been around for over 20 years now and they have helped over a million smokers quit since and their kit has everything that you possibly need to help you quit smoking, I thought WoW that is impressive.

I went ahead and ordered the free trial for my wife (only paid for shipping) and she has quit smoking in just two weeks and she doesn-t want to hear about or smell another cigarette again in her life :)

Now it is up to you, but since my wife has quit, I was so happy about her success, so much so that I had built a small review site of the product to also help other people quit, you can check it out at;
http://time2quitnow.com
if you want to find out more.

P.S. They do ship to Canada.

Thanks for reading my short story, I hope it helps, good luck and stay healthy.
Take each day as it comes. When you feel the urge to smoke just tell yourself that you will feel a lot better if you don-t . Find someone to help you quit maybe someone else trying to quit. I wish you the best of luck! I know this is hard to quit cause it-s hard enough for me to resist sweets! good Luck!!!
Try thinking of lung cancer..an awful death. Lungs should be pink not black. If you were in a fire, and the smoke got to you you would cough and run away..
Why not do the same thing. Cigarettes take IN smoke when the body naturally rejects it. Read on lung cancer, others who have died, that would stop me cold. Also get a patch.

How can I quit smoking cigarettes? -

Im 17 - have been smoking cigarettes for about 7 months now. I go through about a pack a day. My friends infulence me to smoke becuase I am around them when they do it. I know everyone will just say to get new friends, but they ARE my friends and i LOVE them despite their flaws. I am not going to just DROP my friends because of their bad habits, i should be a strong enuf preson myself to be able to hangout with them even if they are smoking and personally still not smoke. I WANT TO QUIT; how can i slowly quit without spending hundreeds of dollars on the nicotine gum or the patch? helpppp
It-s great that you want to quit but it will be tough to be successful if you hang out with people who smoke. A lot of smoking is a social thing and you-ll feel left out if they-re smoking. Maybe you can convince your friends to quit with you.

Either way you-ll need help to be successful and I recommend this program:
http://www.uhelpyourself.com/quitsmoke

It really works and without any pills, gum or patches.

Hope it helps you.

Tom
well no matter what is gonna be hard because you smoke a pack a day and the people around you also smoke.
you should stop smoking 1 less cigg every other day, start out slow and so on -
you also need to talk to them [ur friends]and tell them u would like to quit and and when they are around you to respect you and try not to smoke around youu!
i hope you succeed
:]
i had the same problem. My friends got me started when i was 17. Anyways a pack a day is VERY serious. You can start by cutting down on your daily intake. It is impossible to go cold turkey from 1 pack a day. And most probably, u smoke when u hang around with your friends, so dont smoke when ur alone. And this way you can cut down. And slowly like once a week start cutting down on ur daily intake. Have a pack of regular gum handy to use when u need a smoke. Start finding other extracurricular activities to do. Well tat-s it so far. But if u ever need help with this dont hesitate to contact me. Hope u good luck.
If you are a christian then ask God to help you. If you are not he won-t hear you. He is the answer to your problems!!!!!
Sometimes you have to change the people you hang out with to make changes in your life. When dealing with addiction this is usually the case.

I used the gum when I quit.
Even if you quit cold turkey, you will probably light up anyway when you are at a party with your friends. It may be easier once you go to college.
In the Search for questions slot type in-quit smoking- and you will get at least 6,625 results.
If you-re going to quit you have to want it, otherwise you-ll ultimately end up smoking again.

Change your daily routine up a bit to get yourself out of the habit of smoking. Replace the periods of a day where you would usually grab a cigarette with something productive like exercising, reading, dancing, baking... what ever you like to do.

Chew gum and suck on hard candies - these will help to supress any cravings you have.

You can als try the patches or the nicotine gum to help you quit.

There-s also a prescription drug you can talk to your doctor about. The drug is called chantrix. It-s a pill that you take over a 12 week (maybe more) period. You-ll continue to smoke while on the pill, but as the pills build up in your system cigarettes will slowly become less and less appealing to you until you can-t stand the taste anymore and can-t bare to have a cigarette in your mouth. How this happens is that Chantrix slowly blocks the transmitters in your brain that find nicotine appealing until all of a sudden you find it completely appauling.

Considering you said you don-t want to spend hundreds on patches or gum, I would recommend talking to your doctor about the pill. It-s definitely worth a shot.

Oh, this will not be an easy task, especially being around smokers, but just hang in there, if you really want to quit, you will!

Good Luck!

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

i have been smoking since i was 13. now im 20...i hate to do it cuz it really does stink...but i cant find an effective way to quit. ive tried everything from cold turkey...to switching to gum and suckers...but no cee-gar! any better alternatives? like surgery or hypnosis? what works? what doesnt?
The only way to quit smoking is to control yourself. No one can quit it in a moment or there is no medicine in the whole world which can stop this. To stop smoking you must make have to make your will power to be strong enough. You could start by decreasing the time you smoke i.e. if you smoke 4 times a day then decrease it to 3 times then 2 it is not necessary that you should do it at once. It could take upto month or more to completely stop. But you must have to make youself do that. Otherwise no one can help you.
When you find out...let me know
when ever you want one say no then the next time have one.
ask you get used to that and you dont think its so bad.
turn down the next two times you want one and then have one.
and ect.; cutting down gradually with a strategy might help.
At first you may find this very baloney answer but I think this will help you solve your problem. I-m very happy for you that you are trying to quit such a not so good hobby which is -smoking-. I suggest that you should have an exercise everyday that would make you forget smoking...Like swimming, jogging around the park or going to an area where smoking is prohibited. All you need is self discipline and determination. And always Pray TO God because he is the only one that will help you the most. God Bless and Happy New Year
if u really want to quit smoking, then u can do it. u-r the only one who can control yourself. just try to think about the bad effects of smoking - bad breath, lung cancer, etc.

u can stop, i know u can! good luck!
start puting the smokes away..start eating lollipop
just stop. If you really wanted to you would. I did

Is there any way to quit smoking w/out gaining weight? -

i-ve tried before but gained 20 lbs as when i was not smoking i ate a lot. now i want to try and quit again on the 29th but i-m afraid of gaining weight again. so my question is how can i quit w/out gaining weight??
Hi, I have set my quit date for the 28th!!

I have bought lots of snack such as, sugar free jelly, low calorie chocolate yogurt, rice cakes and lots of fruit and veg. That way if I do want to --comfort eat-- I will not be consuming so many calories. Another thing I will be doing is chewing sugar free gum, I am someone who cannot smoke if I have just cleaned my teeth etc so hoping if I chew gum then I will be less tempted to smoke.

I am also going to try to do some exercise when I get a craving, If I do exercise for the first 10 minutes (just a gentle jog) then hopefully that will boost me up again and have less of a craving!

Good luck
Next May 4th will be my 50th anniversary. Try to, as much as you can, throw it off your mind. These people who make a -major production- over it are hurting their chances. If the gum and the patch work--fine, but my concern is the above--they tend to make quitting into a -big event-. It is once you accomplish it, but, at the start, cause -overfocus-. Good luck to you. Keep busy--your mind thinking about other things.
As for not gaining weight, learn about calories, and try to find -filling- foods that have thickness to them, but low calorie.
Some are Jello, cooked egg white, like Egg Beaters eggs, diet pop(unless you have special medical problem, the unhealthy diet pop is a blessing if it helps get you off ciggs.)

Jeffrey
Try taking up a hobby that requires clean hands like embroidery, cross stitch, knitting, scrapbooking or a sport or other activity that will keep you active.
keep a smoke in your mouth but don-t lite it.

JUST DO IT!!! it ain-t easy but you just gotta do it. try keeping lifesavers candy in your pocket and when you wanna smoke have a lifesaver....they can be lifesavers. good luck.
It-s easy to quit smoking....I-ve it done countless times...lol
find the pattern in when and how many you smoke,

say its like 1 every 1 hour and you smoke like 18 a day... than make it so you can only smoke ever 1.5 hours which would be 12 a day, do this for a week and next week increase it to every 2 hours 8 a day.....if you aren-t getting used to having less that fast, do smaller incraments like 15 mins instead of 30...

I did this, but I smoked like 10 a day in the 1st place and now am down to 3 a day and they are about 6 hours apart, the next I-m gonna do is 2 a day which will be interesting...but I-m not having excessive cravings or withdrawl

although its taking a little longer than I-d like, I think I-ll be successful this time and if I do start again I can keep them timed out and not let it get excessive again...
Have a peppermint each time you crave a cigarette, the craving will go away.

And to have lots of water, and the nicotine will wash out

Make sure you get a lot of fresh air and exercise, it will help your brain recover

have faith
Will power.

You will find it is not giving up the smoking that is the hard part, the hard part is breaking the habit.

The craving eases in a couple of days but the habit that you have gotten into is hard to break.

The early morning ciggy, after dinner, on the loo at work, before bed...it is hard.

Get an ashtray full of butts add water and stir, now sniff it.
That is what you smell like to a none smoker, that should be incentive enough.

I gave up over twenty years ago but in my dreams I am always smoking so it looks like your body never forgets, just like an alcoholic, only not so severe.
Make your self smoke 1 cigarette every hour and no more than that and then go every 2 hours etc till your down to none.....it worked for a friend of mine.

I want to quit smoking, but have a no success in it? -

I am also promising myself, no more ciggaretes, but always smoke than previous day. I have tried, all type of medication and meditation, but always fail to quit smoking. Please don-t suggest to me a hypothetical answer like this : increase willpower, believe in god, bla.. bla.. bla... I have tried all this before but can-t get a succes. Please give me a scientific reason to quit smoking. Thanks in advance. If you have (inspiration) story to whats could be wrong with smoking. so mostly welcome.
u cant stop any behavior all of a sudden..... u can try this meathod..... if u smoke 10 a day then try to reduse into 8 - after a few days into 6 - by the by have it controlled.........might be a good way for ur pbm if a have it determined not to smoke in the future...............
i also have failed at trying to quit smoking. i-ve been a smoker for 23 years. i started at age 12. i tried many times to quit with no success. i never truly wanted to. that was my problem. you could try visiting lung cancer patience at your local hospital. this actually helps a lot of people. i don-t know if you have tried acupuncture. my dr. told me he would do it and that it has a very good success rate. but he won-t do it until i really want to quit. citrus fruits also helps with cravings. best of luck.
Try the patches and gum, or lozenges, they gradually wean you off the dreaded weed. You dont need any scientific reasons, you-re just looking for excuses not to stop, it-s down to you at the end of the day, do you really want to quit? I know it-s hard, I-m about to try for the second time, I gave up for four months earlier this year!
No, don-t quit smoking!!! Don-t believe what people say about smoking. These are all false.

Quit smoking only when you are too sick to even light a cigarette. Meanwhile, enjoy the sweet taste of nicotine and all those poison you take from every puff of cigarette.
try to spent your mony the good way not on cigarets
Would you rather have lung cancer and suffer in a hospital and die that way or suffer much less in trying to quit. Come on man I know quitting is like giving up chocolate but what I would suggest is giving some bucks to those guys in the streetlet them do what they want. Don-t think about the will of others just do all in the world to do what-s best for you just this oce in this case. I might have cancer man and you-re gonna be as scared as me when you find out you do.
well there cant be better inspiration than your own will. i have been smoking for quite a long time and i am not saying that i have quit smoking even though i have reduced to only 1 cig. a day. the reason being that i want to keep myself busy all the time with work. the best way will be to visit a hospital having cancer ward where u will find smoking history in almost every middle age and sometimes even in young patients. The patients say that they have quit smoking after knowing there disease but most of the time its too late.
Here are my suggestions. I have quit before and started again just because I wasn-t really ready to quit. If you are positive you want to quit, then it shouldn-t be that hard. I had no problem quitting when I wanted to just to see if I could do it. First, keep yourself away from everything that makes you want to smoke; i.e. friends, alcohol, bars, clubs, etc. If your friends all smoke like mine do, and you work at a bar, it is extremely difficult. It may suck being isolated for a few weeks, but they-ll still be there when you want them to. Get out of the habit of driving to the gas station to buy them. No cash, no smokes. Don-t use credit/debit cards to buy them and don-t carry cash. Start other hobbies to keep you from getting bored and wanting to smoke, put a sucker in you mouth instead, tell yourself you are a loser for smoking, use a calender to mark how long you can go without having one. If you do have a smoke, try to last at least one day longer without having another. Reward yourself by buying something you want that would have equaled the same amount of money you would have spent on buying smokes in the same period of time. Get to it!!
The truth about tobacco today is that cigs are more addictive than they were 15 years ago . I gave them up about 7 years ago and it took many attempts before I succeded.. I had been on and off them for years and never found it difficult and that was because I took my sporting activities serious.. The last time I gave them up it was horrendous. I went through hell trying and I knew that I had to succeed because I realised the addiction and the grip they had on me must be broken. I-ll never smoke again. because of this.. The mistake I made before was setting a life time target of quitting and that hurt too much so I changed my tatics by setting my first target of two weeks only and then take it from there. I did this no matter how difficult I felt . I was determined to stick to this two week target. After the two weeks were up I did not have the same craving I felt before and therefore I just kept going and here I am today still off them eight years later and going strong and a lot richer for it.. Good luck and I hope you and others succeed because I believe you must. Treat cigarettes as your number one enemy and be determined to beat that enemy before it destroys you..

What is the best way to get in shape after quitting smoking? -

Stopped smoking after 20 years and now want to get in shape. Can only run for about 1/2 mile before getting totally winded. Any suggestions?
try cycling. i smoked for 15 years and started to cycle to get into shape..i don-t like running.
dance!
Start Biking!
just keep building up your stamina by running a little further every day. Keep it up, it burns a lot more calories than other aerobic exercises. I used to only be able tu run a mile or so, now I can knock down 9-10 miles and know I could keep going further if I wanted to. But it takes time and commitment.
Congratulations on quitting smoking!!

Alternate moderate and brisk walking for different intervals of time. Gradually extend the time/distance when you feel you can handle a little more. Every once in a while run instead of walk. Once you gain the needed stamina, you will be able to do run more than a 1/2 mile.
Keep running that half-mile until you aren-t winded anymore, then run a full mile and so on and so forth. Also, try to eat healthier and work out every day. You-ll get there if you are truly motivated. Good luck and kudos for kicking the habit!
start walking, then increase the amount the time, then try to jog for longer and longer each time, the more you do it the better you will get, cardio is so important for getting back your lung capacity, also try swimming its fun and a good workout
Do some deep breathing exercises. Breathe in through your nose, completely down to your gut, pushing your gut out. Hold it, then completely expel all your breath through your mouth. Hold your stomach, gut, abs in - roll them into your spine while breathing out. This pushes oxygen into - throughout your system - helps exercise - expand your lungs.

Do short spurts of running, interspersed with power walking. Run one block, walk one block, etc. Build up your stamina that way.

Congratulations on your commitment to a healthy life!

*1) Burn more calories then you-re consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity. Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate this formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as white potatoes) and drink lots of water.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow:

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is -Muscle and Fitness-. Signup for the free newsletter. An excellent free online resource is at

A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at

How long is it before you dont have the cravings when you have quit smoking for a little over a month? -

I have quit smoking twice, once a few months ago and two wweks before the new year. How long does it take before the cravings aren-t so bad. Just for the people out there that want others to stop smoking.............i am Not doing it because people want me too. I am doing it because I want too, and that-s different. I don-t do what the majority of people want me to do.
Hey - good for you!!! Congratulations on doing it right the second time around. As for the time frame, that-s a hard one as we all experience our -addictions- differently.

After the first week or two, when the cravings were really high for me, I personally asked my doctor for help and he gave me a very mild pill to relax me. Even though he said they weren-t addictive, I still cut them in half and took them when I couldn-t control my hyperness. Unfortunately, I started in on high sugary carbs and gained a lot of weight when all I had to learn was to substitute certain activities for those last cigarettes I-d gotten my -habit- honed down to. I found that it helped a lot to associate with non-smokers but most of all, to think of myself as a non-smoker now. I quit 20 years ago and have had an evening or two where I-ve had 3 or 4 cigarettes, but the next day, I haven-t felt that the habit has defeated me and that I-m back to being a smoker. I kept concentrating on what I-d achieved and how much effort went into it by sticking to what I wanted to do and not pressure from others. So, good luck (and I don-t think you-ll need the luck part) and I-d say to pamper yourself with lots of fresh air, good company and get in some gym time or a great hike! If you slip up, well, it-s not the end of the world. I just subtracted that day from my total of how long I-d quit smoking.

Hang in there!

Cheers,
ShirleyG.
alot of people say 30 days but i had an aunt that still would break down and cry for one 13 yrs after she quit so i probaly depends on the individual
I had my last major cravings at nine months off.
Now it-s been 16 months and I-ve not had any since.
Before that it-d been at six months and before that
a lot of times.
I was still craving one after about 5 months, so i broke down and took a puff and it made me really ill, that is what it took for me to finally quit. Congrats, I know you can do it this time around!
I am a smoker and have too quite and started again. I believe one never gets over the urge it is an addiction as is alcohol
I believe the urge lessens as one goes through the years but always just a drag away.
Keep trying, you-ll make it .
I-m so glad you are doing it for yourself. I think one has a better chance of success when it-s not pushed down your throat. Good luck to you.
It can take a long time to get rid of the cravings. After all, you probably smoked for years and it-s not going to leave you so quickly. Try to get past the craving. Keep your hands busy and take a deep breath as if you are inhaling. The craving will leave shortly and will return. Just keep busy and keep your mind off it. It will disappear!!

What is the best option to quit smoking? -

Hello, my dad is trying (and determined) to quit smoking. Some choices that he is willing to take is Nicoteen Gum, Nicoteen Patch, Chantix, or Cold turkey (when you quit smoking without any help). Please pick the option and list positives and negatives about it.
Quiting smoking....
been there done that.
1. Hypnosis......didn-t work for me
2. Nicorette.....didn-t work for me
3. Cold turkey.....almost killed me
4. Cyntax......never tried
5. what is the succesful method?
---He needs support from both the family and the work environment.....
and most importantly he has to have His WILL really-really strong.
I was a smoker and although I gave up smoking for a while now, I am still worried that at anytime, i could be a smoker again.
Good luck to you in helping your Dad!
Hypnosis therapy. Apparently it has like an over 95% success rate. But as with all treatments, you have to separate the wheat from the chaff.
don-t buy cigarettes. :)
I took Chantix for a month. It is a prescription drug, but even with my insurance it cost $85 bucks, so I could only afford one month. It not only blocks the cravings, it blocks the pleasure receptors in your brain so that if he relapses, he won-t even enjoy it. Because I could only afford a month-s worth, I quit for about 6 weeks, and it really was not a bad 6 weeks. Which is huge, I-ve been smoking for 13 years, at a pack a day for 10 years. I wasn-t crabby, didn-t eat alot. So in a few weeks after holiday bills are paid off, I-m getting three months worth of Chantix and I have absolute faith it will work.

Things that I tried that did not work: gum, patch, cold turkery, hypnosis, auricular therapy.
i bought the patch and they help but i still have not quit all the way......i got a prescription for the chantix if a person had 130 dollars to pay for the prescription......and when i try to do without i seem to have a real hard time and search the house which is very clean for a cigarette........i have quit before but i think stress is a factor in not being able to quit at this time.....li am doing better just quit taking them with me when i am busy or with anyone.....the less you smoke the better.....i think that is some progress..........
Chantix is your best bet.

It has proven to work on many people. There are some minor side effects like nausea, vomitting, but just take it with food.

The down side is that its expensive..about ~$100 per month. But buying cigarettes is about the same amount of money or less. Gotta weight the options.
Your dad needs to buy Allen Carr-s -Easy Way to Stop Smoking-. It-s a book that reprograms the way you think of smoking. My mom and I both quit using this method. It-s a great book. If your dad is skeptical (I was) tell him he is supposed to smoke as normal while reading this book and he has nothing to lose. It will make a great late Christmas gift!
try getting him a consolur maybe he just need a little extra push..... try the patch too
The patch, with the occasional gum.
I say Chantix, my dad-s gonna try that too and he looked it up and what it does is it makes cigarettes unpleasent to smoke.
the nicoteen gum and patch both work well! Good luck!! ;)
I would go with the Chantix if I were him.

Chantix is a pill that his doctor can prescribe for him. While taking the pill he will continue to smoke, but that-s part of the process. Chantix slowly blocks the receptors in the brain that find nicotine appealing. As more and more of the treatment builds up in his system he-ll begin to find smoking less and less appealing until finally he smokes a cigarette, thinks it-s the most disgusting thing ever, and never wants to touch another one. I believe he-ll need to continue taking Chantix for a bit after he-s stopped wanting a cigarette just to avoid cravings, but I-m not positive.

The other options are alright. The Nicotine Gum and Patch are going to start to cost him, and for many people they aren-t strong enough to help fight the cravings.

Cold Turkey is going to be TOUGH. He-ll get cravings a lot, and will most likely become quite irritable and cranky due to the withdrawal. It takes a lot of will power to quit without any help.

Hypnosis works for some. My parents tried it and it didn-t help them at all, but that-s an option as well if he-s willing to try it.

Hope this helps! Good Luck to your dad! :-)
Cold Turkey is the way to do it and its FREE!! A lot of people are talking about the patch and gum but that does not help everyone so why spend 85 bucks knowing it MIGHT help. My dad smoked for 30 years and quit this way, well he did it little by little. First he stopped smoking in the house so he would have to go outside for a cig even in the heat if he wanted one bad enough. Then he just decided to stop all together, every time he wanted a cig he replaced it with a toothpick until he no longer had the nerve to smoke. You have to believe in yourself and really WANT TO STOP. Good luck!!

What are some of the best long-lasting gums? I quit smoking and need something that will last more than 5 min! -

Extra always lasts for a longtime...Winterfresh lasts a long time also
Depending on your how much you chew vs suck, how much flavor vs stiffness matters to you - you need to try them out. Also try hard candies (sugar free) and deep breathing exercises (excellent aid). Buy a stick of licorice at the health store (a twig, not the candy), and see if you like keeping that in your mouth, or a toothpick. Eventually reduce your mastication (sets off digestive fluids, wears teeth, gums, etc), but not anytime soon. Remember that if you fall off the wagon you can get back on and still succeed. If you-re rich, contact Dr. David Sachs in Palo Alto, CA for nicotine replacement therapy that is much more expensive and effective than the gum. The gum, if you can afford it, can be very helpful. If you chew only occasionally and keep it -parked- along the gum, eventually you will get withdrawal relief. However, it takes awhile. For example, smoking a cigarette shoots a couple humdred milligrams of nicotine to the brain through the carotids in a couple of seconds, the gum just a few in 30-45 minutes. For thousands of dollars with someone like Dr. Sachs (did the clinical trials for the FDA), you can get more like 20 milligrams in a couple of minutes. The withdrawal is real, with the pleasure cascade derailed, so don-t feel bad about asking for an anti-depressant, since you are suddenly lower on some neurotransmitters that are part of the habit that kicks off some of your neurotransmitters for calming, focusing, feeling fun. You will eventually adjust, but its a tough row to hoe until you do, and will power is only one of the things going on - good for you to try quitting, and even if it doesn-t work this time, you will learn tricks to make it work next time. Those who succeed usually try more than once. Go for it!
Stride is good.

Also, I like altoids mints. I quit using Commit and when I came time to wean off of those I found the Altoids a very good replacement.
Now, oddly enough, I don-t find myself craving ciggarettes. I now crave Committ lozenges. LOL.

Congratulations!!
if you can find it, get Dentyne Ice soft chew gum.
the dark blue package (idk the name of the flavor) is the best but they all last forever.

the Dentyne regular gum is a great second.
orbit
Stride
Stride is best. The commercials are true the flavor is very long lasting.

Quit smoking, get Ulcerative Colitis? -

My friend is 51, and has been smoking 30 years. She recently quit, and around the same time came down with bloody stool, and the runs. She got checked out, and found out she has ulcerative colitis. She claims that she has read somewhere quitting smoking causes this condition. I think she-s full of crap and trying to guilt everyone around her that told her to quit smoking.......it sounds so ridiculous!
I have Crohn-s, which is the only other Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) besides Colitis. They are very similar, so when I research Crohn-s, a lot of Colitis info. comes up, too. Quitting smoking is actually a good thing for IBD. Smoking doesn-t make the actual disease worse, but it does makes the symptoms worse.

There are two time frames that people will usually develop an IBD if they are going to in their life. Those are in their teen to early 20 years, and again between about 50 and 70. It is just coincidence that she got it when she quit smoking.
She-s not talking crap. As unlikely as this may seem to you. I too (and many others) have started to see symptoms of UC almost immediately after quitting a long-term smoking habit. I quit for the 1st time a couple of years ago, and this brought on UC. I started again, and had the UC just about under control, and quit again recently. As a consequence my UC is now raging.
It is not the stopping smoking that causes UC, rather that the nicotine has an effect on the gut that soothes and masks symptoms.

I have been smoking for 1 year since splited with my ex-gf. It was a pleasure but recently i found no pretty much feeling in it, just do it as a habit. What would u do? Would u quit?
What a ridiculous question.

If smoking had any health benefits, then it might be worth asking.

Do you really need me to answer this?
Its up to you I smoke and enjoy it very much I did quit once many years ago to save the money to put toward my new boat got the boat but did not start smoking again for about a year or so but started again
during a very boring fishing trip in the middle of the Straits of Dover but even after giving up for about 18 months it tasted so good and still dos
I will give up when I stop enjoying it ! But as I wrote earlier its your choice and health
yes.
its a discusting habbit, and you have no idea what its doing to ur insides.
can cause many many health problems... as u prob know.

try ur best to quit... your not gaining anything from smoking, except diseased lungs and respiratory tract system. so STOP!!! now!! if u can.

i don-t smoke, never had any interest and TBH find it a big big put off... but anyway!!

Do urself a favour and quit if u can, i know it-ll b a struggle, but the prices are only gonna increase anyway, n ur lungs are only gonna get worse and long term effects worse too... so stop...if not for the money u-ll save but your own health.

xxx

good luck!!
Of course you should, with today-s health risks your practically killing yourself for no reason.

My close Uncle died from throat cancer from smoking and left my whole family devastated. You will do the same if you don-t quit soon.

Quit man, quit.
I still smoke but i still enjoy it (i do rolley-s) the day i loose the enjoy meant i will quite, it will be easier because you can-t smoke in the pub-s here anymore (perth australia), but it is all up to you
hope this helped
it is up to you at the end of the day i have gone 2 days now without a ciggies and i am determined not to start again
if you smoke you turn yellow, cough up flem and smell like hell.
not to mention your sex life suffers because you cant go as long as usually have trouble getting it up.

so i dont know. should you stop smoking?
You can quit smoking in 38 minutes and 13 seconds!

http://best-way-to-stop-smoking.info
Definitely quit if you-re no longer getting pleasure from it ... there-s no point keeping doing a bad habit just because it-s a habit.
Enjoyment would be the only reason to smoke.
YES!!!

How do you stop sugar cravings after you quit smoking? -

I stopped smoking three days ago (yay!) and I feel fine, no irritability after the first day.... however, I do notice that my sweet tooth has really been kicking! I-m really concerned about gaining weight, and I don-t want to go back to smoking. What are some ways to stop the sugar cravings, or what are some tips for dealing with them? Thank you!
new medicine called Chantrix
Start using less sugar , but don-t avoid eating that sugar filled snack.

You will still be better off than, smoking!

Eat regular meals and stay hydrated.

There will always be a low calorie substitute
remember u cant have just one!!, i craved fatty foods big time when i quit, i went from 179 to 210, replace that habbit with a good habbit , gym , biking, working out,
always, always, be chewing sugar free gum. it allows your mouth to be doing something which can replace the overall motion of smoking. expirement with sugar free gum, any kind will work but it is important you like it so you will keep on chewing it. also, i recommend the extra brand is great for this because it has a sugary tast to it but it dosn-t have any sugar in it and the tast lasts awhile so you wont have to constantly get new gum. you don-t have to use it, but i personaly love it.
Make sure you get plenty of excercise and that you eat the right foods. Make sure you have a balnced and healthy meal everytime you eat.

My husband and I are trying to get pregnant and I really want to quit smoking badly, but it seems impossible. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been smoking for 15 years. I have tried quitting cold turkey and clearly that didn-t work. I am afraid of the patches because I have heard horror stories about them and the gum tastes nasty. Please help!!
Forget the patches, gum, etc. To quit you have to want to quit.Put your mind to it to yourself, say -I-m going to quit-. Think of the money you-ll save by quitting. At the prices they are now, just think if you put that money in a jar or savings account, you-d come out with money you wouldn-t have had before.
To quit you have to want to quit.
Talk to your doctor and tell him your concerns about patches and gum. There are a lot of aids to help you quit smoking available to you. What works for one person may not work for another. Go to
http://www.cancer.org/docroot/home/index…
and see if there is anything on there that can help you too. Maybe it will have a suggestion that you hadn-t thought of before. Good luck to you.
I smoked for 13 years i never really wanted to quit smoking but i knew it would benefit me in the long run. i tried to quit cold turkey it lasted about 14 hours. i then tried to cut back on smoking i managed to go back to about 4 a day that was the best i could do but never stop.. 3 months later i herd of champix known in the US as chantix. so i went to the doctor and got my first prescription of this. not sure about US but you only get 4 weeks worth after each trip. either way its enough to try it and see if it works. now i started taking these just for the hell of it. i didn-t really want to quit cause i loved smoking. after 2 days of these smokes started to lose there taste. it also blocks the affects nicotine has on your brain so you find you wont enjoy the smokes so much. so i continue to smoke and take the tablets it says you should quit by 14 days but i kept smoking cause i didn-t want to give up. then by day 16 i just stopped to see how long i could go without one.. i have now quit for 1 full week and have only thought about smokes not actually wanted one. without this there is no way i could have ever quit im sure of it.. some people say this doesn-t work. for me i would say it worked better then i could have imagine consider i didn-t even want to give up smoking and i did. do your self a favor and go see a doctor and talk to them about these. cause 3 weeks from when you get them you will have quit. and you wont believe how easy it was..

i also tried patches and gum and it did nothing for me...
Before you quit, pile up all of your cigarette boxes and filled ashtrays in one place that you will see often how disgusting of a habit it is. Whenever you think of smoking, brush your teeth or something..
If that doesn-t work, see a hypnotherapist. They supposedly really work.
chew regular sugar free gum.

Hi,

Avprin helps you loose weight and quit smoking.
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

Good Luck
It has not helped me lose weight BUT cold weather is here - I haven-t been able to go on my walks. And the holidays dinners have started already so that hasn-t helped any. I figure I-ll tackle the weight issue after I quit. One thing at a time.

Does hypnotherapy work for quitting smoking? i cant quit cold turkey? -

Smoking is an addiction. You need an expert medical attention to gradually decrease your addiction to nicotine which is a pseudo-adrenaline. We smokers feel the urge of smoking everytime we feel low and we need an adrenaline-rush to wake us up. The danger of quiting smoking is we eat more once we stop smoking and I have many friends who gained weight and suffered heart attack, others now have diabetis because they shifted to eating sweets and chocolates so for your own good as I have said seek an expert medical attention.
Lol, ummm not for me it didn-t. My friend and I decided that we were going 2 go, we signed up, paid the fee. When we got there they made everyone out there cigarettes in a big box. There was like 500 packs in this huge box! The guy did his thing, and when we left I wanted a cigarette so bad, I had never wanted one like this before. My friend always jokes now that he did the wrong one, and that we may quack like a duck when we hear a bell, because it didn-t work! Waste of money

I am trying to quit smoking. I have cut back significantly but now i need an extra boost to stop completely. Are there any anti-smoking aids that actually work? any tips?
You may want to try a new and successful smoking cessation product called Chantix which is currently the frontrunner and proven way to quit smoking. Even though there is a side effect of increased suicidal tendencies, it can be overcome by simply cutting the daily dosage by half. It-s one of many smoke cessation programs which has a substantial track record of success.

Good luck!
Go to your doctor. I saw a commercial where they said -Quitting smoking doesn-t have to be hard, get help from your doctor.- Or something like that
I-ve created a Youtube video playlist I-ve got there is particularly cool: a mixture of ads, advice and personal experiences. Watch them all in order for maximum effect!

YES YOU CAN STOP SMOKING I HAVE SO YOU CAN I PRAYED AND PRAYED AND GOD TOOK IT AWAY FROM ME TRIED IT
There is a medication available similar to that of which alchoholics use to quit drinking. It is some sort of pill that makes you feel nauseas as soon as you take a drag.
just buy a huge Supply of the patch, and look up nasty pictures of cigarette infested lungs whenever you feel like smoking. and look at pictures of people who have those sick tubes coming out of their throats. that would be enough to make me stop.

I been told that it works. I quit using nicorette the gum. Cool chill changed my life. It took 10 months but I-m totally free now.
My mother quit smoking by being hypnotized! I quit with the patch and it has been 3yrs for me! Good Luck!
use the patch and get hypnotized too. that will help insure it works. as you wean your way off the patch the hypnosis will help reinforce you , you may need more than one hypnosis session so dont cheat yourself out of success.

How do I quit smoking??? -

I-m 18 soon to be 19 and I-ve been smoking since I was 14 about 2 packs a day, I-ve tried quiting but it-s so hard, the longest I-ve gone without smoking was about a week, any suggestions??
Change your habits, like when you smoke. If you smoke with coffee, stop coffee for awhile. Don-t drink alcohol if you smoke with it. If you want one side track yourself to do something you would not normally do. I want a cig, so I will pet the dog or go for a walk or talk on the phone. Something like that. Try and smell the different smells in the air. don-t let people smoke in your house. Make changes that make you think. Watch yourself smoke in the mirror. Doesn-t it look unnatural?
Hypnosis?

It-s a proven thing and the website in my sources tells you how to do it. 100% money back guaranteed if it does not work for YOU.

Hope I helped.
throw all of them away, and think that the word somoke is not in the world
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
I quit smoking about 3 years ago with no patchs or anything i just threw them away, The big thing that helped me quit is i kept thinking about how much more MONEY i would have, With the money you spend on smoking you could buy yourself all kinds of stuff, New cloths, Electronics whatever you want.
I do not know. I will watch for your answers.(smoking for 16 yrs.}
I QUIT IT . SIMPLE PUT THE OATH FOR GOD . AND TRY TO HAVE SOME THING ELSE LIKE CHEWING GUM OR BUBBLE GUM WHEN EVER U FEEL WANT TO SMOKE AND OATH ON SOME ONE WHO U LOVE MOST.
Go see your doctor or quit smoking group.. they provide all the help you will need!
well i just think u shd go on ur knees and pray then dispose the packets and tell other pple abt it or simply go for deliverance....
There is so much hype about quitting smoking and ways to reach this healthful goal, but it-s going to be rough no matter which way you slice it. They say quitting addictive substances is more than will power that it-s a phychological thang.I think that it might be helpful to change your associations with cigarettes, IE: some people have a smoke with their coffee or after a meal. Break the relationship, Break the habit... good luck
i-ve been a compulsive smoker myself. i tried kickin- the habit several times, but it simply came back. however, this time, I-ve simply decided not to touch the cigarette, no matter what. i try to control my response to sudden impluse. smoking is a momentary urge - survive those periodic urges by telling urself -i-ll smoke later-. This delaying will help u overcome the urges, and, eventually, a long break in somking could possibly help u get out of it altogether...al da best to u!
The best way I have found to quit smoking is:
First you have to have it in your heart and mind that you truely WANT to quit and that you CAN do it! Second, I had some regular drinking straws that I had cut to the same length as my cigarettes. When the craving hits, you place your index finger over one end and suck on the other end, then let go of the covered end. Your lungs are fooled into thinking they are sucking on a cigarette.
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I was a smoker for 25 years and I had quit smoking for over six times ,but never really quit smoking before.Just after I read that quit smoking program, I realized how easy quitting smoking was.I am a non-smoker now! I highly recommend this program to you.It really works. You can check out
http://quit-smoking-in-3-hours.info

Good luck!
well really, slowing down for 4 days to a week will seriously help, nicotine only stays in your system for 3 days unless you have a really high concentration of nicotine say you smoke a pack a day, after it exits your body you will no longer have nicotine cravings which is the hard part and that only takes 3 days, everytime you want one, just remind yourself that you-re doing it for your health
I quit by cutting my intake in half until i started with a pack a day so I cut it down to half a pack a day for a week then 5, then 2 then none. When I was done I decided that I was done and I haven-t had one since.
everyone, please read this book! you don-t need any pills, patches, etc, to quit smoking. not only that, but those things only make quitting harder than it really is. please read this book. i wasn-t even planning on quitting, but became a non smoker right after i finished the book (actually about 3/4 of the way thru it). no shock theray, NO withdrawals. just read

Do you know anyone who quit smoking cold turkey? -

I have just stopped.. after 5 years, it was a little ruff for the 1st few days but its been two weeks and the cravings are not as bad as it used to be...no gum no patch...just God and will power...i still have a ways to go but I feel real good about my chances.
Yes my brother; he was Driving home from work one day, started to cough and threw the cigarettes out the window and that was that. He is a tough, strong willed person. I-m proud of him.
I smoked for 7 years, and went cold turkey 4 years ago, and haven-t looked back! The day I quit, I had a blowout on the highway, no cigarettes to help my frustrations, and I knew if I could get through that, I would be able to handle anything without a cigarette.

Good luck!
Yeah, I quit cold turkey 5 days ago, after 15 years of smoking.

Great site:

I wholeheartedly recommend you visit this site - can-t praise it enough.

Good luck!!

I quit smoking a week ago and im coughing stuff up? -

like flem and stuff...is this normal?
the fibers in your lungs and throat are called -cicela- might be spelt wrong ne way
nicotine.. not only is it adictive but it also acts as a paralyzing agent, the cicela in your lungs are design to wave about and clean your lungs, when nicotine enters your body they are paralyzed and can no longer clean your lungs proper, that why when you quit smoking your risk of lungs disease goes way way down, cause you body is able to get rid of the toxins you have been breathing in. The flem and such is mucus carring out thw tar and other products
yes
Yes absolutely. And it is a good sign. When your lungs are free from the garbage, they start working immediately healing themselves. There is a lot of foreign matter down in there, and the mucus is being produced to clean house and flush the junk up. You may even cough up some brownish, blackish stuff or even a thin tiny amount of blood. Everybody I have ever known, including my wife and myself, who has stopped smoking... has gone through this healing phase. You-ll be amazed in a month or so how clear your lungs feel.
you should go see a doctor just to be safe

Chantix to quit smoking is too expensive!? -

I really want to take Chantix to quit smoking and so does my mom... only problem is that it-s $150 a bottle in the US. And it-s $117 in Canada.
I need to get two bottles... one for my mom and one for me.
Insurance doesn-t cover it. Anyone know where I can order Chantix where it would be cheaper?
Pfizer (the manufacturers of Chantix) have several programs which may be able to help you.

https://www.pfizerhelpfulanswers.com/pag…

Chantix is listed in at least one of these programs.

Please don-t give up!
Sorry, but I get angry when people worry about the cost of the drug. Have you ever considered how much you might have spent on this commodity which does nothing but have a negative influence on you?

Also how much do you think you will spend in the next six months on smoking? As smokers we rationalise that cigarettes are not an expense. They are like buying soap or toothpaste, they are a necessity. They are not!

Chantix removes the cravings. They say you should stop smoking after 7 days after taking the drug. After day 5, I was nauseated by smoking and gave up then and there. People are scare mongering but few will acknowledge this drug is a revolution in stopping smoking. 1.5 million smokers (in the last year in the US alone) have said this. It is well documented that it is 200%more effective then it-s closest rival drug, and 400% more effective than a placebo.

You have nothing to lose, except a slightly sore tummy initially(exaggerated by the press and many people in yahoo), and a bit of nausea for the first week. A small price to pay. I feel liberated and free after 20 years of enslavement, having tried it all.

I have put the money I spent on cigarettes in a specially created bank account and can-t belive how much I was wasting on someting that was basically killing me. I always thought - I don-t care if I die a bit younger....however it-s not when you die, it-s how you die. Most smokers will die a painful death.

Awful things aside...this drug works, and I have never felt better.
Sometimes you can contact the drug company that makes the drug for a discount. You can also contact your insurance company to see if they offer a stop smoking program.A lot of insurance companies offer a one time free program for help with stop smoking. Also some hospitals have a program that gives away free patches and gum.
Me and my husband started on chantix today. We are splitting a box for starters and if it seems to help in 2 weeks, it will be worth coming up with the money for another box. Try buying one box and splitting it to get a start. See if you notice a difference before investing.

To the person who said it may make you irritable, that-s what -stop smoking- does to you no matter what you take.

My son in law went to a hypnotist and quit cold turkey with no problems a year ago, I would do that but I don-t like people getting into my mind.
You might want to reconsider taking this drug...It is now known to cause extreme mood swings and suicidal tendencies...My husband-s on it and he has successfully quit smoking for more than 7 days now but he seems on edge and is ea sly aggravated...his work medic even examined his situation...I want him to do an alternative drug called welabutrin...good luck to you I hope that I helped
Well my insurance pays for mine, even though I-ve never used it..lol
seems like a waste huh??
Well I-ve always been told you have to have the -MIND SET- to wanna quit, its more or less mind over matter, hell you can buy a carton of cigs for the price that they want for all the things to stop smoking.. Makes no sense to me..
But then again, I don-t want to quit look up this site i haven-t tried it but maybe it will help??
Uninsured? Need help paying for medicine? Pfizer has programs that can help, no matter your age or income. You may even qualify for free Pfizer medicines. Call 1-866-706-2400. Or click here for more info www.pfizerhelpfulanswers.com.

I got this off thier web site.

- Tobacco Is a great mountrous evil and has rear a high mound of bones. So all now must - I WILL USE NEVER MORE !!!

I Frank Haven-t Had A Cigarette In How Long ???
Three years, two weeks, four days, 6 hours, 46 minutes and 42 seconds. 55714 cigarettes not smoked, saving $11,142.82. Life saved: 27 weeks, 4 days, 10 hours, 50 minutes.

You can quit if you really want to I quit while fighting throat cancer never let this happen to you.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Qui…

I dont really know but think of it this way... You would spend that money on cigs in the first place so just replace it! How long would it take ye to smoke $100 worth of cigs? A month? 2 months less? Would you manage that lonG without any? Think about it!
it don-t work! tried lighting it and it won-t burn so i-m gonna have to do it the old fashion way and try cold turkey. independant studies show it is the most effective way.
Compare it to the cost of smoking!

And what-s with the stupid insurance company, anyway? Do they want their customers to get sick?
For a product less than $10.00 visit http://www.stopsmoking4good.org or email me at stopsmoking4good@yahoo.com
Just get regular strips.. It-s wayyy cheaper..
get some self control and just dont smoke already

How to QUIT smoking BLACK n MILDS??? -

My boyfriend really wants to stop smoking, but is having a really hard time b/c he doesn-t smoke cigarettes he smokes black and milds which is a type of cigar. He cannot go a day without smoking at least three. Please help! He really wants to quit but all the advise we find is on cigarettes.
I am a quiter.

It takes 72 hours for nicotine to leave the body. The key is not to drag out 72 of detox by toying for weeks or months with gradual nicotine weaning or other creative means for delivering nicotine. After 72 hours the addiction to nicotine is purely mental.

Just on puff during this 72 hour period will result in another 72 hours of detox while the body once again trys to adjust to life without nicotine.

*91.2% of all successful long-term ex-smokers quit entirely on their own without resort to any product, procedure or program of any kind.

*Those who refuse to allow any nicotine back into their bloodstream have 100% odds of remaining nicotine free today!
dam the black iz pretty hard 2 quit ya kno.
well just limit it then.
just let him smoke 2 for a while till he-z use 2 it
then once he-z use 2 it let him only smoke one and then he will stop
Try to let him cut down on ot, let him try to smoke 2 a day for a mont then one. Well you get what i am saying? And if that dont work then try to ake him go onto Hooka or Cigarets, and from there let him cut down. Tell him to lnly smoke at night then after a 1 months tell him to sleep whenever he wats to smok.
Dont worry i know someone who has been trough that
ok first have him chew straws or use them as cigaretts....,.have him chew lots of gum.....

go on the web and search for smoking videos. show him what will happen to him tell him you want him to stay.

get his family and friends all together and give him a talk

this does need to stop!! just recently my classmate suffered heart disease from smoking and passed away
good luck!!!!!

I Quit Smoking 3 days ago and I need help? -

I quit 3 days ago and today has been the worst so far. I feel so bitter and angry. I know it will hopefully get better soon and the withdrawals will ease but I am having a hard time with the withdrawals right now. Anything I can do to make them ease up a bit? Quitting smoking is so hard, I wish I never started up again. (I quit for 7 months and relapsed a few months ago)
If you have a place in your area that offers

Ionic Body Cleanses
Ionic Foot Baths

or some deviation of them. What they will do is pull all of the nicotine and tar out of your body. This will make it easier for you to stop.

They cost about $20-$40 a visit and a visit lasts for 30 minutes. Typically, Chiropractic centers or more holistic health centers offer such treatments.
I quit 6 weeks ago, after smoking for 25+ years. I feel ya. What I found helped me out was munching on Altoids when the craving hit hard. That and just breathing - taking deep calming breaths to calm down helped me too.

You can do it. In the words of my father - you have to look at it like ... are you a man or a mouse? Do you really want to let the cigarettes control you? You have the power, you can do it!
Good for you. I smoked for 25 years, so I know how hard it is.

Try to distract yourself from the urges. When you get an urge to smoke, take a couple of deep breaths, go for a quick walk, drink some water, etc.

Do not give in and have -just one-.

Good luck.

Cigarette free since Thanksgiving 2006.
Try that nicoret gum. I quit smoking 18 years ago cold turkey. I chewed alot of gum. That helped. Try that. Good luck.
Have you heard about this book: -Allan Carr-s Easy Way To Stop Smoking-? I read it and quit smoking over two weeks ago. Everytime I had a craving I was able to think my way through it using the ideas from the book. It proved to me that much of the addiction is psychological. I highly recommend it.
Good job man ... I quit smoking as well , i just think about how horrible it is for you and the tax for ciggs are sooo rediculous in nyc .. best thing to do is work out or do somethin to get your mind off that buzz - Gl and dont smoke

What is the best way to quit smoking pot? -

aw it was hard for me to quit. if you are an everyday user like i was, start doing it once every 2 days for like a week, then go to once every week for a few weeks, then once every 2 weeks for like a month or two, then it should be no problem to quit after that
I found taking B12 vitamin help me quit smoking cigarettes. It took away cravings. I hardly drink any more also.Just on social occasions of even that. I used to drink every couple of days at least I feel much more relaxed once i started taking a B12 supplement. I take a 1000 mg dosage. b12 is a water soluble vitamin like vitamin c. I was told though you should not take more than 2500mg per day. The ones I take I dissolve under my tongue for maximum absorbtion into the blood stream
In old age homes the give out B12 shots to calm down patients
its not hard since marijuana isnt addictive. just stop buying it. do something else when you wanna get high. unlike the person above me who said cut your self from your friends??? wtf... dumb idea. its not their fault that you smoke. You can not smoke and still be friends with someone who smokes. Do something you like to do, when ever you want to get high.
dang, I don-t have an answer but I just wanted to say I didn-t mean to give a thumbs up to the fool above me. That was meant to be a thumbs DOWN.

It-s really weird that people have nothing better to do than troll around and give stupid answers when somebody is really asking an honest question.
Addictions are addictions. You gotta treat this illness as though you were quitting smoking or drugs.

1. Go see the dr. They have some great meds that make things easier.
2. Consider psychotherapy.
3. Join a support group.

TX Mom

it shouldn-t be hard, if you really want to, it-ll take almost no will power. Just don-t hang out with people who smoke for a while and get rid of any weed you have.
Make pot tea. Make pot brownies. Make pot suckers! The sky is the limit!
Don-t buy none. find something else to something to do instead.
by stop buying it. cut yourself off from your friends that do smoke it and just say no.
start using heroin
dont do such a silly thing
