What can I to quit smoking? Im Underage.? -

Hi. Im 16 and i have serious problem with smoking. And I seriously want/need to stop smoking. Suggestions? Could I go to my doctor about it?

If your going to comment and tell me how stupid I am for starting smoking in the first place then keep them to yourself. I don-t care.
Stop buying and pinching smokes and play sports

People here tell their stories about how they quit as well
Yes you CAN talk to a doctor or a help line, regardless of age. Do your parents know? If they do, then you have nothing to worry about-if not..well I don-t know confidentiality rules, but I guarantee you there will be no legal consequences. I mean, think about all the people who go to rehab or talk to psychiatrists about drug addiction. Drugs are illegal all the TIME, and yet those individuals can still seek help confidentially.
Your parents will probably flip out -but if I were you, I-d just tell them. If not-just make an appt at a clinic or a free program or something.
YOU CAN-T DO IT ALONE!! ask your friend to like punch or pinch you every time u take a light

How can I get my dad to quit smoking? -

Okay, so he was doing really good, by quitting and taking pills that make him not want to smoke.
But lately whenever he is stressed or angry, he immediately goes outside and pulls out a cigarette.
Please Help!!
To be honest, nobody can stop your dad from smoking except for himself and a good amount of will-power. If he wants to stop, and he has communicated that with you, the best you can do is be an encouragement and remind him of his commitment to quitting when he seems to want to go light one to calm himself down.

Ultimately it is his decision to stop. I hope this helps. : )
Maybe suggest an Electronic cigarette as an alternative to a tobacco cigarette? It worked for me.
He could look up information on them at forums and see if its something he might like to check out further.

A couple of good sources of information are vapersforum.com and e-cigarette-forum.com

also you can look up some videos on youtube.
He will do it on his own. If he-s angry and stressed, the last thing he needs is someone harassing him about it.You-ll only cause him to smoke more.
So do both of you a favor. Just leave him be. When he-s ready, he-s ready.
THis is a program I just got for my mom after turning to it as a last resort. I know it seems stupid and maybe too good to be true but I want to help you. Give it a try

Does hypnosis work to quit smoking? -

I-ve tried cold turkey and nicotine replacement but that didn-t work for me.I-ve known a few people who tried hypnosis but were back to smoking almost right afterwards. After hypnosis are the withdrawal symptoms the same? Can someone tell me their experience with this procedure and did it work for you?
Hello Michael

Hypnosis can be very affective against the smoking habit.

The reason why it fails in some is that they are not ready to stop. A good hypnotherapist would not take on a client who-s subconscious mind was not ready, if they did it would be to tackle the reasons that keep them smoking first.

Hypnosis can also eliminate cravings etc.

Pam

It can help, but you really need motivation.
my son-in-law has tried this and cut smoking down to half but is still in the program. Good Luck

I really want to quit smoking.. natrual? -

I want to quit smoking because I play sports, drum and want to be healthy. I think about my mother all the time and how I wouldn-t want to see her dying of cancer or anyone at that. Whats the most effective way to calm the cravings and to quit cold turkey?
Well. . . Quitting is quite easy if your brain chemistry is balanced. But many people seek out tobacco because it actually helps them. It-s called self-medication, and it is usually a totally unconscious thing. Pregnant women whose bodies don-t have enough of some necessary element, will have intense cravings for different foods which contain the thing their bodies need to build a baby, and then a day later, the craving reverses. I-ve seen this happen with a friend of mine. One time she sent her hubby out looking for Gummy Bears at 3 AM, probably because she needed the gelatin for bone structure or something like that. It-s been reported that some women crave chalk or road salt.

If your brain naturally does better with nicotine, then the chances of you being able to quit are very slim. I-d focus on trying to find organic tobaccos and maybe a pipe. Most of the problems with tobacco come from the type of fertilizer it was grown in, (phosphate fertilizers are mildly radioactive, which for your stomach isn-t a big problem, but for lungs. . .), pesticides and of course the crazy list of additives corporate tobacco adds. --The other problems stem from the filters, which allow toxin-filled tar-covered micro-filaments into the lungs which never come out again, (like asbestos). All of these problems can be dealt with by smoking clean tobacco in a pipe.

Otherwise, quitting isn-t that hard. It takes only seven days to quit. The cravings and brain chemistry nuttiness will get worse and worse, peeking around day three or four, and then drop off until they are completely gone around day eight or nine. End of story; the chemical addiction is gone. It-s basically like having a moderate flu. I was really surprised at how over-stated the whole nicotine addiction thing has been. It-s really not that big a deal. --The trouble is that during the week of breaking nicotine addiction, you can make the symptoms disappear instantly by smoking, and your brain will play all kinds of tricks on you to convince you to do this. But will power is all you need, and not even for that long. Anybody can last for three bad days and four progressively easier days. The first day isn-t that hard at all. It was actually quite a lot of fun; like trying to win a video game.

After that, the only cravings you-ll get are behavioral if your brain chemistry is balanced. If, however, you simply do better with tobacco, then you will have cravings for the rest of your life, so you might as well smoke. Just smoke clean. You won-t get sick unless you believe you will. Seriously. Tobacco smoke isn-t really bad for you, but the psyche programming the world has undergone is very difficult to overcome. Tobacco is one of the only two drugs on the planet which has a beneficial effect, (in its case, it sharpens awareness and calms negative emotions) and does so without affecting judgment. The other drug which has positive effects without screwing with your head is caffeine.

It-s an interesting note that Hitler-s Nazi party was the first modern government to attempt to ban smoking. My guess is that this was done because tobacco balances your thinking. It-s harder to make people do crazy, angry things when their thinking is calmed and focused with tobacco. This is another good reason to stay away from corporate tobacco; all those additives work to counter-balance the positive effects of nicotine.

Finally. . , one trick you can use to help get through the quitting tobacco -flu- is to rent a bunch of TV series on DVD and watch them through the really difficult period of withdrawal. --I found when I was experimenting with smoking, (I smoked a year or so, and then quit, and then after a month took it up again and then quit again after a few more months. Then I quit permanently; my brain doesn-t need nicotine, so it wasn-t hard for me), was that when I was watching a movie, I was totally distracted from the craving pangs. It worked really well.

There-s also a timing thing, but it depends on your personal chemistry. On my second time through, I found that if you stop smoking for three days, then on the hardest day, if you smoke once more, the build-up of nicotine metabolizing chemicals your brain creates are cut down without the pattern being re-established. This just makes the rest of the week go by more easily and the whole quitting thing more comfortable.

Anyway, good luck with whatever you decide to do..

Cheers!
The chemical addiction is gone after 3 days. That-s the easy part. It-s the physiological addiction turmoil you have to go through after wards. I-m off cigs for a while now. But i-ve quit a few times so i-m aware of what Works and what doesn-t. there are no pills that work for the oral fixation as mentioned by some other posts. The best trick is to distract yourself once you get a craving. You will be fine after 2-3Min-s after a craving. That-s up to you. do something you like or text a friend, remove yourself from the area of temptation.
Some things you should be aware of:
When you stop you will be short tempered. Be careful of how you treat your friends. Walk away from arguments. They will make you want to smoke more.
If you drink you-ll find it hard to not smoke because you-re more likely to smoke when drinking. Also you may drink more. Kinda takes more to get you drunk. If you don-t drink this can be compared to anything you do that involved you smoking as part of it i.e. watching sports live (the tension...Grrh!)
Ask friends for help. Tell them what your doing and do a reward scheme for yourself. After 3 days not smoking you-ve earned a trip to the cinema. don-t go if you fail to. You-ll have the money to do things now due to the money you are saving. This is also a strong motivator. You-ll notice the financial advantages almost straight away with this trick.

There are many other tricks that people have so listen to them. Don-t just take one persons advice. Do what suits you disregard what you know won-t. As much as I-m a fan of trying anything - you never know- is not always good when trying to quit. The more things that fail to help you can make the task of quiting harder, like -nothing I do is working-.

And good luck. You-ll need it.
Good for you! I applaud your initiative. Google -how to quit smoking- Here are some pages I-ve already looked up for you.

Good luck and good health to you and your mother.
chew gum and just deal with the withdrawal
I smoked for 10 years and quit cold turkey.
you tend to have an oral fixation afterward so again I suggest gum. and if you have the urge to eat to cope I suggest a baggie of carrots.
and good Luck, man, quitting smoking is one of the best things you could do for yourself.
its great to know tht u wana quit smoking which is harmful to health. EAch time you have the urge to smoke, pop a sweet or chewing gum. It helps. In the end, its your will power and determination tht helps you.
I-ve heard that a long flight (32+) to a different country can help, because you have been 32+ hours away from a cigarette. And this can really boost your confidence of quiting
Most of all
U need to be fully commited and motivated
Cold turkey your DONE.I even kept a pack on me to fight the devil even harder.Been 25 years
Throw them away and make a contract with yourself that you will never smoke again!

If you quit smoking but still occasionally smoke pot are you still unhealthy? -

I haven-t smoked cigarettes for a whole year, but I still occasionally smoke a little bit of pot. Am I still damaging my lungs? There are soooo many studies out there, but I can never tell who is doing the research and if the studies are biased? Anyone have any info that they know is accurate or websites they can direct me to? Thanks!
thats all a matter of opinion unless your a doctor....To me it-s nothing close to the damage cigarettes causes. and i even believe alchol is worse than pot it-s poison it changes people. people loose total control not on pot though i don-t think it-s healthy to smoke it but the only harm your doing to your lungs is the smoke and thc.
Marijuana smoke has been found to contain more cancer-causing agents than is found in tobacco smoke. Examination of human lung tissue that had been exposed to marijuana smoke over a long period of time in a laboratory showed cellular changes called metaplasia that are considered precancerous. In laboratory test, the tars from marijuana smoke have produced tumors when applied to animal skin. These studies suggest that it is likely that marijuana may cause cancer if used for a number of years. Also, if the pot has been laced with anything you-re getting that as well along with any pesticides used by the growers. Marijuana use increases the heart rate as much as 50 percent, depending on the amount of THC. It can cause chest pain in people who have a poor blood supply to the heart - and it produces these effects more rapidly than tobacco smoke does
Don-t do it!!!
plz dont!
i had health 3 months ago, it reduces your life span and reduces the amount of blood going in your freaking head. so it damages your long and short term memory. i am not lieing i had to do a huge project about it. its very bad for your health. i have 2 friends and it totally ruined their lives. 1 got kicked out of high school becuz he got caught and the other is a freaking slacker. if i could find my usb i would give you the powerpoint with the bibliography.
better sorry than safe.
do the best for yourself, think about it i cant stop you damaging your health u can only stop yourself.
Your body is your temple. You choose what to use.
I might also smoke both? But i also know that any smoke can-t be good! Although it is a great tool or med for some cancer patients.
peace!

How do make heavy smoker quit smoking? -

I think all you can do is give them all the facts, offer them help... like patches, hypnosis CDs, and tell them the true reasons you need them to stop. My sister started to smoke and i told her i felt like she was being selfish because if she got sick she wouldn-t be the only one suffering. She stopped.
The other 2 are right. We have to make the choice for ourselves to quit when we are ready. My parents tried to get me to quit all through high school untill they realized that it was my choice to smoke and it will be my choice to quit (which I dont really plan on doing).
You cant MAKE a smoker quit. They have to want to do it - believe me pointing out all the pitfalls will make no difference. Smokers DO know what smoking does to their body etc.

I need to quit smoking. Can somebody help me out in my situation? -

I have been smoking roughly about 4-5 cigs a day. I just straight up stopped buying packs. Breaking the cigs that i have more than one with me. Just have one once in a while to calm my stress and anger levels. I take welbutrin XL already which does help a lot. Well, the problem is i can go without one but my mind keeps telling me -you are not you without them-. Its like i think of me walking around just smoking. Its just an addiction, I quit once. I want to quit again. Is there any way to fix this problem with my addiction?
seriously, cold turkey is the best way
Hello, I met my bf a few years back and he was a smoker when I met him, He would smoke about 3-5 sticks of cigarettes a day. But you know what......on our second month we are dating he stopped smoking, Since I am not a smoker he decided not too smoked anymore because he noticed my eyes get really teary and my throat started getting itchy wheneve I-m around him smoking. I did not complain or anything like that. According to him, it is actually easier to quit than anyone says it is. He did not had a hard time since no one at my house smokes. I honestly admit that he did gain weight a year later, he gained about 12 lbs. but a few months later he started working out and eating right,,, he got his normal weight back. My best friend who just got pregnant also stop smoking, she-s 28 years old and she-s been smoking since 21. As soon as she found out she was pregnant she stop smoking. So see, this are only a few examples of people who did it and probably save their lives in the near future.
I smoked for 14 years. I tried to quit cold turkey so many times. It was like you-re saying....you feel like smoking is part of you. The thought of not smoking anymore is actually kinda scarey. My doctor gave me a prescription for Chantix. I knew several people who had used it to quit. It has worked so far!! I took it for about 1 1/2 months, and I haven-t had a cigarette in 2 1/2 months. I don-t miss it much either. One of the side effects is strange dreams. Someone told me that it is because the drug speeds up your brain activity. It doesn-t have any nicotine in it. I HIGHLY recommend Chantix. Good luck!
i am right there with you but i have found that when i am happy i can do it and i also have learn to realize that when i am mad i smoke the most so i need to learn to let go of anger because the only thing that i use to hold on to self holds on to is self pity
It sounds like you figured it out already. You just decided to quit and your habit is not huge anyway. I quit successfully about 2 years ago (I had a small habit like yours, but it lasted for 8 years or more). I had tried half heartedly to stop quite a few times but I did not really want to so I wasn-t successful. I finally just quit cold turkey and it was not that hard. Bu the last time something in my mind clicked and I knew I really was going to quit. After a few months I stopped thinking about it and stopped feeling like something was missing. For me I had to learn to think and solve problems without going out for a smoke break... it took a while to clear my head. That feeling goes away. Just keep doing what you are doing. Try to just quit because you are so close already and those cigs once in a while are not helping. Learn to get by without them. Get the patch if you have to.
yes make your mind up that you will not smoke and if your cravings start to get the best of you go somewhere that there is no smoking
open up a cigarete and chew the tobaco and swallow it, that is better than the patch tro supply nicotine, reduce the amount every day then skip a day or two
in a month you will despite tobbaco.
My mom, dad, 2 brothers and father-in-law used neuroinhibitors.

I quit using welbutrin.
you have no intention to quit, Me myself was smoking for 35 years and 45 sticks daily, can stop on the spot. You can make-it, keep it up!
I smoked for approximately twenty years; however, one day in the winter I got a very serious cold and every time I puffed that cigarette I chocked and couldn-t breath. That was seven years ago. I tried to stop several times, but to know avail using patches, gums and things like that; however, I find the best way to quit smoking is COLD TURKEY!
There-s a great post on DearSugar about quitting smoking, check it out.
http://dearsugar.com/319390
Carry carrots with you all the time, and whenever you feel like smoking just eat the carrots. Sounds stupid, but a lot of people I know stopped smoking completely like this. Do this for like 2 months at least and you should be totally off it.
you need to see yourself as a nonsmoker. Ask everyone you know to help you..i had everyone I know praying for me and offering advice and praise for each day I made it thru. I carried a lollypop stick that felt -right- in my fingers and my mouth and that stick was my saving grace... i really went off if i dropped it...but eventually i noticed the stick was staying in my pocket more and more, till i made it a wole day without my best friend!!!
It was the hardest thing I have done for myself but also I am proud of myself for making it and thankful I have friends who were willing to help and be there even those who continue to smoke gave me encouragement to keep fighting.
Think of yourself as nonsmoker first step..
if I can do it you can too...
i am proud of you for wanting to stop
Good for you!! I used to smoke but don-t now, I quit before they started putting so many chemicals in them. My niece was quitting and she called me (cross country), hung up on me because I laughed because she was crying trying to quit. She went through hell the first week, called a hot-line and they said if you can make it 6 days WITHOUT touching them, you-ll have it made. Patches and such fuel your craving because they have nicotine in them. JUST LAY THEM DOWN AND TOUGH IT OUT. You might try nerve pills til you quit your craving. GOOD LUCK AND GOD BE WITH YOU!!!
You don-t seem to be physically addicted therefore you have to create a good habit which tells your mind that this is the new and improved you. Alot of people have chosen weight lifting to define their new persona, I don-t know what yours is but keep in mind all of the different alternatives, sports, education (reading/writing), collections (cards, coins, etc.), and animal training (dogs, birds, etc.). Good luck.

.Zyban is great! Zyban is used in the aid to quit smoking, or the withdrawal from nicotine. I used Zyban and it worked wonders for me, Zyban worked in about 90 days, I was smoking two packs a day! Zyban really saved my life! You can order Zyban online. I purchase Zyban and my other medicine online at MedicineRx.NET. You don-t even need a prior prescription! Their order process could not be simpler, just select the prescription meds you need, fill in the medical questionnaire, and submit your order. They have US licensed Doctors Write your prescription, then a US Licensed Pharmacy ships out your order via Next Day Fed ex delivery.. I swear you will stop smoking with zyban! Good Luck dear!
I started making my own cigarettes to save money, but now I don-t make one until I have a strong urge for one. My smoking as cut in half if not more since I started making my own. Eventually, I may quit all together; but for right now I-m happy with reduction. Good Luck
Try substituting smoking with chewing gum!
There is a drug that doctors prescribe for high blood pressure. It is called -Mechameliamine-. This drug blocks the sensation of pleasure that you get when you smoke a cigarette. Thereby discouraging the smoker from lighting up. If you can make it 6 weeks, you have it made.
From my own personal experence, have a good reason. I know it seems silly, but the truth of it, that-s what will drive you to really quit. And remind yourself of this everyday, cause it will take awhile. It took me almost a year to have no cravings. I did it cold turkey. And what made me want to quit, was seeing myself smoking in the mirror. By the way I smoked for 18 years
First things first. You have to WANT to quit to be successful. No program, pills, patches or other things will work unless you-ve made the decision to quit for good. As a smoker for 20 plus years, I-ve come to this conclusion. I sincerely wish you luck and hope you make it!!!
THINK OF IT THIS WAY
MORE THAN 1000 PEOPLE QUIT SMOKING EACH YEAR.

BY DYING
I used to carry a pocketfull of the little red plastic coffee stirrers
that you find in many fast food restaurants...
The look like little plastic straws..
Whenever I wanted a cigarette, I would chew on one of these..
It took about a month..
Then it was over..
I have not smoked in about 15 yrs...
well, cinnamon toothpicks have helped me stop during the day..............

Can hypnosis really help you quit smoking? -

It worked for me.
Yes. I hypnotise about eight to ten people a week and prevent them smoking ever again. They will not smoke - in 89% of cases. I monitor them at 3 months, six months and a year. There is no question whatsoever that it works and is effective.

http://www.vancouverhypnotherapy.org/hyp…

Yes hypnosis can really help in quitting smoking, just as long as you really really want to.
i tried it and it didn-t work one bit....the best way to quit is to get on the patch, pill, or gum or something!
i-ve witnessed it helping some of my associates, others, not so much. it all depends on the individual.

What are some good ways to help quit smoking? -

What are some good ways to help quit smoking? -

ive been smoking for 10 yrs now, and have alot of stress in my life. ive always used cigarettes to deal with it... what can i do???
Credentials: I used to be a heavy smoker (3 packs/day, menthol). Quit previously 3 times. The last time took. Non-smoker for over 15 years.

For me, the hardest part about quitting was removing all of the associations around smoking. Example, whenever I had a beer, I had a cigarette. Whenever I finished eating, had a cigarette. You get the idea. I purposely and deliberately -weeded out- all the associations I had with smoking until I only had a few. In other words, I consciously did not smoke after each of these other co-occurring activities, until the urge was diminished. Once this was done, I had already reduced my smoking to a few cigarettes a day. To completely quit, it was a combination of negative imagery and getting the flu. I imagined coating my lungs with a thick goo of tar and nicotine while I smoked. I was never able to smoke when I had a cold or the flu, so after 5 days of various orifice purging, I realized I could probably go another few days without. Bottom line for me: discipline of living how you want.
As for the stress, good time to involve yourself in a very detailed kind of hobby, like model rocketry or exercise like biking. If you can weather through the first few days, you-ll start to feel the benefit of being able to breathe without getting winded, and smell wonderful scents of nature and/or aromas of baking and cooking seemingly for the first time! Good Luck!
One good way to taper the nicotine level down slowly over time is to smoke one less cigarette daily each week until you get to one cigarette per day for the last week. After that carry one cigarette with you (so you don-t borrow one) for the next several weeks but don-t smoke it. Then throw it away. Good luck.
I-m in the same boat. I-d say your BEST bet is to talk to your doctor about the new prescription quiting aids on the market. The gum, patch and lozenge did-t help me. Good luck.
you have to replace your habit with something like excersize for example. any time you want a smoke, go for a walk. pretty soon youll be too tired to want to smoke, and viola! you quit!
ok, well its not that easy but it is true and i wish you all the luck in the world...
Welbutrin is an anti-depressant that helps you quit smoking.

Normally I would not suggest an anti-depressant to someone, but quitting smoking is VERY hard emotionally and the withdrawals can cause severe depression or feeling like your losing your mind... to some people.

With Welbutrin you have a small window of oppertunity to quit... When you get to that window of time, the cigarettes smell and taste SO nasty that they make you gag... (Trust me).... Using the welbutrin combined with a patch will help you...

As for the habit of putting hand to mouth, which is very hard to lose... Try sucking on a straw, or sugar free lillipops....

Just my suggestion on how I did it...

According to 20/20.... Cold Turkey RARELY works for the long haul....

Tawny
Go cold turkey
go out side fpr a smok and time your self and go for a work
TRY ROLLING YOUR OWN YOU WILL SOON GET SICK OF THE TASTE !
IF YOU SMOKE 10 TODAY SMOKE 9 TOMORROW AND SO ON DAILY

How do i get my mom to quit smoking? the patches and gum wont work!!!? -

start smoking....and if she gets mad at you, tell her you are following her example, she-ll get the picture.

Honestly though, people who smoke cannot quit unless they want to and then the best way to quit is cold turkey. Thats how I quit. I waited until I got the flu then I didn-t feel like smoking so I didn-t smoke for a week. When I got better, I just decided to keep it going and so far so good.
You cannot get your mom to stop smoking until SHE is ready to quit. Once she decides to quit for real then have her see the doc for help.
She has to want to quit. On her own. And if you are pestering her about it all the time, I would bet that it-s just making her mad, right? She knows how you feel and she knows the dangers of smoking. You have to let her do it herself when she-s ready.
She has to want to quit. When she is ready tell her to ask her dr for CHANTIX it-s new - my husband smoked 21/2-3 packs a day till he started taking this medicine. He quit 5 months ago. He tired to have a cigeratte last night - choked for 5 minutes. It is a 12 weeks system the first 4 days you take .5 mg tab once daily, then on 5 you take .5 mg tab 2x daily for 2 days. Day 7 you take 1.0 mg twice daily for the next 11 weeks. My husband only took CHANTIX for 8 weeks before he stopped because he no longer had the urge. He stopped cold turkey. This medicine causes you to get nausas if you smoke - take the medicine at the same time. Good Luck!!
just look at her and tell her that she will be missed so much when she gone.....And when you have your family and kids and have questions that you need to ask your mom and she has passed from -smoking- or a related to smoking death ask her who you could go to ask.....My mom passed away in 1990 I went into labor with my only child 2hours after she died.... I was 24
You can-t.
She has to want to quit on her own.
I only quit because I got pregnant, I tried the patches and gum a thousand times and couldn-t kick it.
I just watched my mom die from emphysema and it was a HORRIBLE, SLOW DEATH that I wouldn-t wish on a soul. If you can convince her to quit, you would be doing both of you a huge favor, but mom really has to want it. The doctor can give her Wellbutrin or they may even have something new now, that will make the cigarettes taste horrible, and that might help.
Also, when I was quitting with the patch, it helped me a bit to suck on a Jolly Rancher Cinnamon hard candy........ and to -smoke- on a straw. She might try these tricks and see if they work.
Good luck to her, it-s very hard.
Try to get her into a program through a hospital.
tell her that you would like for her to be there to see your grand kids. hope this works good luck.
You can-t -get- someone to quit smoking. It has to be a decision they make for themselves, otherwise it will likely be a temporary cessation.
Don-t shame her and nag - offer suggestions. Tell her to think of it as a bad habit that-s affecting you both and habits can be changed, then suggest ways to look at the possibilities of this change.
She wont die or have a heart attack or lose a limb or go into respiratory arrest or suddenly grow out of control cancer cells - if she quits. But she has 50% more chance of these effects if she continues smoking.
And maybe, maybe not, some miserable temporary quitting symptoms, but always bearable and the absolute relief to be free of that hassle is worth it.
She can get her instant gratification a heap of other ways - that-s what you can suggest and support her with. When she knows she is not alone and that you will work at this together, then fobbing you off with excuses is not fair, to herself and you.
Keep talking to her, tell her you will help all the way.
You can be sure she wants to quit somewhere in her mind, but she-s scared - scared to lose her comfort friend, and scared it will be painful, and scared she will fail - so maybe try and talk to her about all these things and tell her that it-s ok if that happens, but it-s worth it for her future self-esteem, health and happiness, and for you and future kids. Unfortunately YOU cannot get your Mom to quit. They do have a new med that has been very effective for people who have been unsuccessful thus far. The best you can do is to support Mom in her efforts. It is like those commercials where you should not beat yourself or others up because they have not been successfull yet. Gotta just keep trying. Support Mom no matter what and remember...if it was easy nobody would still be smoking. Also i have never met some one who is glad they ever started smoking so...keep in mind that quitting is a desireable thing for most people it just takes time and patience from those around us. Good Luck to you and your Mom.
chantix. its a new prescription drug that is having a high sucess rate! tell her to talk to her doctor!
hypnosis is mentioned to work?
well, when she gets that hole put in her neck she might get the thought in her head to quit.

My mom said she will quit only when she is dead... so since she-s been smoking since 1965, I give her under 10 years before she quits, her way.
Nothing will help, unless she wants to, most of us have said that we wanted to quit, but then there is a little voice that says, just a few a day, It never works. I ended up, with severe breathing difficulties before I did. They say there is a pill out now, that is suppose to do it. If she is serious maybe she can ask her doctor.

my good friend has a mom that smokes.he doesn-t like her smoking and recently me and him got in some trouble for smoking weed.she is really nice and cool and told us to stop, which we are,and now my friend wants her to stop smoking cigarettes.when i talked to her yesterday she was telling me that she was hooked and she couldn-t stop how can my friend help his mom quit?how hard is it to quit smoking?she smokes newport and i think she smokes one or two packs a day
It-s hard to quit. She is addicted to nicotine, so I suggest going with her to a doctor to get some medication and nicotine replacement products so she can ween herself off nicotine with as little discomfort as possible.

A pack of day is a lot of cigarettes so it won-t be easy and she will need to be the one who wants to change, otherwise it won-t work in the long run.
You cant help her quit she has to want it for herself
screammingWhat about shouting, scriming and hitting the person??!!
Its difficult but not impossible, However she needs someone of her own age who can guide slowly to other importance of life then cigarettes..
you can-t
it is so hard
to be honest i ve seen people dying cuz of this
usually they stop when dye
so sad
show them pictures of smokers lungs there so repulsive they will prolly decide wether or not its worth it
to be honest you cant do much to make a person stop smoking. I have been trying to do this with my BF for last 6 yrs, he has not even tried to quit. No matter how much i whined, cried, fought, argued, debated, make him understand, got him involved in other activites..... He just dosent quit. Recently he developed a huge cavity which hurt him bad like hell due to smoking but still he did not quit... Its a waste of time. Smokers wont and will not quit on someone elses persuasion.

Quit smoking question concerning nicotine withdrawal and sex life? -

I-ve quit smoking for 8 days tonight and I feel a little better as far as my energy levels go..... My question is that I get severe mood swings and it seems as I have no sex drive... I went out to eat last night with a beautiful girl that I plan on hooking up with but the past few nights watching adult videos I was unable to keep an erection... Ive been to the doctor and he gave me cialis for my problem that I-ve had but how severely does quitting smoking lower you libido... Id like to be able to have sex with this girl without having to take a stupid pill... does sex drive increase again ? after how long ? Will my circulation improve so I can maintain an erection ?? I-m dying over heeeere
Man that is great that you quit...good job. Myself I have quit now for almost 12 weeks...and I know EXACTLY what you are talking about.

Do not worry. The quitting has not decreased your libido. The problem is that your body is going through withdrawl and you may experience headaches, stomach aches, sleep problems etc...my suggestion is that you just take your sex life easy for a another few days and see how you feel.

However, if you decide that you need to do something right away then I recommend talking to your doctor about a stop smoking drug. I am using Chantix and it is great.

Either way good job on the quitting and just hang in there the withdrawl will pass. Good Luck!

Well done quitting. Stick to it and your overall health will improve.
If you have mood swings it sounds like your hormones are out of whack, which could be from bad nutrition and the smoking which depletes the body of many vitamins and minerals. If you eat junk food, toss it, and start really looking after yourself: healthy food, lots of veggies and fruits, get some exercise regime going. You must get sunlight or take vitamin D supplements and vit D rich foods, and get adequate sleep. Possibly you need a few extra nutritional supplements to really give yourself a boost - so poke your nose into a health store or go and see a naturopath.

A quick pill fix from a doc is only temporarily fixing your problem. Only when you are healthy will you know just how absolutely fantastic you-ll feel, how your body will respond when you want it to and how you-ll feel confident and in control. Go on prove it...
BTW, smoking does constrict blood flow, but unless you have permanent damage, your body should repair itself - but there again, give it a helping hand by living naturally, the way we are meant to live - not with chemicals, drugs, sugar, refined carbohydrates, deep fried foods, and bad moods and stress.

There-s a lot of information here about quitting smoking and looking after yourself:

When you quit smoking, do you cough up a lot of mucus? -

I quit smoking weed and cigs and now im coughing a lot of mucus....is that normal? has any one else experienced this?
Well congratulations on your quiting smoking weed and cigs! Though I wouldn-t take any chances with self-diagnosing when it comes to coughing up mucus. Perhaps your lungs are clearing itself out or there really is another health issue. Please do talk with your physician asap.

If it-s ok, I-d like to also post a couple of websites that may help to give you some emotional support and inspiration in your stopping the use of marijuana and nicotine.
You DO that, because your system is trying to get rid of all the remnants of the smoking. Your body is Spring cleaning, so to speak. Just keep spitting it out, and it will stop, soon. Drink lots of orange juice, as it is like scrubbing bubbles inside your body. The orange juice really will scrub you clean inside. Drink lots of water, help with this cleaning. If you JUST quite, stay clear of sweets, coffee, tea, and meat. Just for the time being, this will really help your body get cleaned up, and will make the temptation MUCH less to smoke anything. If you REALLY get an urge to smoke, jump into the shower, and it is pretty hard to smoke UNDER a constant flow of water. Good Luck, GOOD choice!
I quit smoking cigs for 6 weeks now. I smoked for almost 20 years. I feel great, but I do every once in awhile cough up some mucus. I suppose that years of putting toxins in, it is only reasonable that some are going to come out.... keep it up. It is difficult sometimes...

I sincerely seek your suggestions for quiting smoking. Please help
pledge that you will touch a single piece of cigarette, pipe or bidi
I can only tell you how I quit, and it has worked now for 5 years as I have never smoked again since:

Put constant daily effort into reading up on quitting (like Allan Carr etc) and speak to people who you can count on to support you. You will develop a constant voice in your mind that wants you to quit. One morning you will wake up, and you will know which morning this will be when it comes, and you will simply and effortlessly stop. By choice of course. Dont cut down, or take subsitutes for it - stop right then.

As time went on, I got all hyper (you know, tapping things, walking around, biting nails) and I was so tempted to cure the desire - but I simply got up each time I had that feeling and threw myself into something else. I developed new talents and hobbies as a result (going to gym was one - but that we will take some time for the lungs to be ready).

Oh, be prepared for slight mood swings, feelings of emptiness, regular morning coughs (which may include unsavoury black fluid).

But really, its not impossible and you will feel like a whole new person. Wait until you can smell your clothes again, food will taste better and when you walk past a smoker - prepare for a shock
There is no fool proof method to quitting, however, smokers can turn to the natural side of things to soothe some of the symptoms and side effects of nicotine withdrawals which take effect when they stop smoking cig arettes. St. John’s Wort is an excellent herb to start with because it’s known for helping fight depression and calm nerves. St. John’s Wort can also help fight anxiety, nervous tension, insomnia and inflammation of the stomach. Smoker’s often take St. John’s Wort as a means of calming their nerves and anxiety over quitting smoking.
hi some1

i can only tell you what worked for me.. after 40 years of smoking, i have been free from tobacco for over 5 years now.. having tried many of the methods available, i found no solution.. the missing ingredient proved to be participation in a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meeting both locally and online.. there are over 30 meetings a week as close as your Computer.. you can attend before attempting a quit, a desire to stop, is the only requirement.. as always there is no wrong way to stop.. good luck on your struggle!!

My suggestion? Skip the fads and suggestions from people who are not experts and take care of this by going to the professionals. You can start by visiting your family doctor and discussing this. I don-t know a single person who smoked for more than five years that quit without going to their doctor.

Good luck!
The American Cancer Society has a great mail out; just call. Everyone smokes for different reasons. You need to figure out why you smoke, and what could help you quit. Positive substitutions are great. Exercise is wonderful. Find substitutes for smoking, no matter how silly. Congrats to you!
Think..... your life is decreasing 5 Min. from each of Cigarette.
Quit smoking is only possible by strong will power , otherwise forget about any suggestion, they will not do.

Sorry gentleman.... to say but this is true. I was also a chain smoker and now I don-t smoke. I was a heavy drinker, now I don-t drink and finally I was a drug addict.... now I have not taken tea/ coffee even for last 30 years. If this can inspire you. Wish you all the best.
good question. ive been trying to quit for about a year.. and im only 16 :(
plan number(well lets just call it one) for me is to go to the gym
im hoping it will make me fell better and encourage me to smoke less, so i can work harder
but i dont know
i feel your pain, good luck
You have already taken the first step of deciding to quit smoking. Excellent. Control the temptation little by little and you will achieve it. Make up your mind and do not lose confidence. Wish you all the best.
Its Hard To Leave Such Habits.
You Need To Cut It Off Complete It. Go Visit A Hospital - Check Out The Lung Cancer Patients!
I Was A Chain Smoker, But One Day, My Dad Had A Heart Attack. We Were Out Of Money For The Treatment. We Somehow Collected The Money - Got Him Treated. The Heart Attack Was A Result Of Blockage Caused By Smoking.
That Incident Made Me Swear That I Will Never Smoke Again - Earn Money. - Here I Am Doing Just The Same!!
Suppose you smoke 5 cigars a day. Cut down to 4 for 1 week then for 3 in the next week and go on, smoke one cigar alternate day, next every 3 days once and then you can quit in the same way. Vist www.learningannex.com for further details.
yes, you can win
first thing which you have decided to quit .
2nd just increase the doses .and cut half them.
3rd you get away from Smoker.
4th dont think about smoking mold your mind in some other task.
I stopped 2 months ago 30 a day for 25 years. You really have to want to stop.I used nicotine gum and will power for the first week after that normal gum, worked for me anyway.
Try to stay away from people who smoke. Nicotine patches do help.

Just wondering if replacing a cigarette with a kiss would help someone quit smoking? -

If you-re trying to get someone to quit smoking, every time he wanted to reach for a cigarette you would give him a kiss instead? or sex? would that work? just curious as to what other methods of getting someone to quit are
ew, i don-t want to kiss a smoker
i-ll have sex with them if they are good looking though
haha
I-m sure that would persuade some people
While a kiss is always nice, and sex is real nice too, neither would work. (And what are you going to do when you realize your person smokes a pack a day?) The desire for a cigarette is uncommonly strong. The desire to quit has to come from the smoker, not those who care about him or her. Nothing you do for every cigarette s/he forgoes is going to take the place of that cigarette.

What you can do is encourage and support, offering positive reinforcement, and not becoming upset when and if they backslide, fail, or quit trying. It-s that difficult.

I quit 9 years ago, and I *still* crave cigarettes.
That might help, but even better, take them to a nearby park with fresh air and trees and shade. It appears that a much smaller percent of the people who are relaxing under a tree or in the shade in the park want to smoke compared to the percent of people smoking who are walking around the hot concrete streets surrounding the park. I think this is because the park causes people to relax more. But it could be because the type of people who want to relax in a park are not likely to be smokers. Either way take that someone to the park and get them to relax. Seasons and weather also play into this, if its in the middle of a sunny summer day, spring or fall day, this probably works, but not in the rain or in a blizzard or the freezing cold.

Also, the section of Washington DC called -Georgetown- has a very low percent of smokers, when compared to other places, around the country. (Percent of smokers less than 1 percent in the people I have seen, the last time I was there.)

If you want someone to quit smoking you should find and become freinds with some people who live in Georgetown, section of DC. Those people may have a few answers that nobody else has.
That-s an interesting approach. But no, I-d say it wouldn-t, sex is brief and there isn-t anything that comes close to eliminating those withdrawal symptoms other than medication (Chantix is the best). The most important thing is to reduce stress, the best time to stop is when you-re on vacation because stress sets off the cravings.
accompany him to a meeting of a support group!!!!

it could if the person really likes kissing you because they would know that every time they felt like smoking that could get am awesome kiss instead and save their health unless you have like gingivitis or something
not always
I-ll take any of that from you to quit =)

I recently quit after smoking for about ten years, and this is by far the hardest thing I have ever done.
When does it get easier? Does it get easier!!??
Help!!
Good for you, and you can do it!

I quit after 30 plus years of smoking, using a medication precribed by the doc which was fantastic, I had no trouble at all. It was a nine week programme, but of course prescribed meds are not for everyone.

One piece of really helpful advice I was given was drink LOTS of water to help flush the nictine (the addictive agent) from your system.

Also, if it gets too hard, try the patches or gum (you can get them over the counter in Australian pharmacists, not sure where you are), they really do help.

Most -cravings- actually only last for about 30 seconds, if you can get through that they decrease in frequency fairly quickly, but the patches etc do help.

AND, seriously if you do relapse, don-t crucify yourself. Just start over, everyone lapses, but it-s not important in the scheme of things, whereas giving up permanently IS!

I-ve put a couple of links which might help below.

Well done so far and good luck! :-)
I have heard that smoking is harder to give up than heroin. The reason being that it is simple to break a physical addiction, but smoking satsfies so many other urges that can be legally and socially acceptably indulged in. Even all the smoking bans are not going to have a real cultural effect for many years, and I think that there will eventually be a strong rebellious sub culture of smokers!

All the people I know who have been regular smokers have not totally given up. But my mother has done pretty well. She used to be 20 a day for years, and she gave up in her late 30-s (and during her pregnancies), and it has pretty much stuck. She does havr the occasionla one, but she doesn-t fall off the wagon as it were.
I think that the best thing you can do is identify your triggers, and be aware of those vulnerabilities. Put in place a load of displacement activities (but preferably not eating like a total hog!), and you will gradually notice that you need them less. But I do not think that you will ever be truly free of the urge full time. That is not as bad as it sounds - the occasional f a g is not going to do you any harm, unless you feel that total abstinence is the only way forward.

Good luck!
10 years is a long time. My brother quit smoking after 3 years. I asked him how he did it and if it bothers him:
stop thinking of them, eat/bit/hold in mouth something else (toothpicks, sunflowers etc.), you will eventually just forget about the need for them. don-t think it gets easier, don-t think about it at all.

what he did was just play a hell of a lot of video-games =/ i suggest going to the gym for a healthier alternative

btw: he was age 17-20
I quit when I was up to 2 packs a day. It is the hardest thing I ever did. It does get easier. It-s a habit, and habits are hard to break. Little by little it will get easier. Just keep away from those cigarettes. You will be so glad.

Good luck to you. Hang in there.
You sound stressed, if I was you I-d go buy a pack of cigarettes, some nicotine will set you straight...

Remember, nobody likes a quitter!
Don-t think it gets easier for a long while maybe 15 years. Then you cant stand the smell of smoke or any one that smokes..
That-s what I have found...
Never been hooked on cigs.

I wish you the best of luck. Your efforts are truly worth it.

im trying to quit smoking but it doesnt seem to be working. ive tried cutting down but that dosnt seem to work.ive also tried quitting cold turkey but that didnt work either. how did you quit smoking?
It-s all about willpower. You have to want to quit. I have not had a smoke in 6 years because deep down I wanted to quit.
Pretty easy actually, just do not buy them, throw out the ones you have and stop yourself from buying new ones or asking people for ones.

as a person who has been around smokers a long time, and never really go hooked myself, because I tried smoking when I was 11 coughed a lot and had a foul taste in my mouth for the rest fo the day was enough for me to realize it wasn-t worth anything.
I did it! I quit smoking!

First of all, I was READY to quit, so nothing was going to stop me from reaching my goal. I think you have to be in this mental ready place FIRST. Then, you have to KNOW that you will be challenged again and again for years, so you have to have a strategy: Here was my strategy:

#1 - I put a rubber band on my wrist and when I had an urge I popped the rubber band to distract the desire to smoke.

.#2 I knew that my -habit- was REAL, so, I -materialized- my habit, gave it a name, and stood it in front of me. Whenever I had the urge to smoke, I-d pop and talk to the habit telling it, I KNOW you, I SEE YOU, and the answer is NO, I WILL NOT SMOKE.

#3 I got up went outside, or played my guitar, or went for a walk, or brushed my teeth or did SOMETHING ELSE to distract myself.

It only takes 3 seconds of distraction to defeat the -habit- each time the habit tempts you. BE READY. SEE IT. TELL IT NO every time!

Even years later the smoker habit still tries to tempt me. I always recognize it, stand it before me and tell it NO. It-s the devil. He can-t win if we expose him, pop him, and tell him NO. lol
Go onto the NHS -go smoke free- website register - you will be sent a DVD plus other info on ways to stop - its free!
Im using patches but many other possible ways to quit - im on three weeks four days - counting.
Or go - see your GP - there is lots of people willing to help in this day and age.
Also try - keep busy during the first few weeks doing different things to normal
I used a support group and have been clean for 5 years now..

Throw away all your cigarettes, and don-t allow yourself to buy new ones.

Any time you are tempted to buy a pack of cigarettes, get yourself something else. A pack of gum, liquorice, jerky... anything that will keep your mouth busy.
lol My mom is 53 yrs ols and smoked when she was 15. After she told me her lungs started hurting she decided to stop cold turkey. She lost a few pounds in a week. Maybe you should think of the benefits to help you quit.
just stop. people make it out to be so hard. if you really want to quit you will. thats what i did. cold turkey.
Okay, here is the irony:

* You say quit smoking with out drugs

* You say -cold turkey- is not an option
cold turkey, it was horrible but I-m glad I did it. Laid them down and never looked back.
im working on quitting too
i chew gum and eat tons of sun flower seeds
seems to be working
Try chewing gum instead or eat some sunflower seeds or something.Hope that works

Is it harder to lose weight after you quit smoking? -

I quit smoking four months ago, and have gained quite a bit of weight. I know I eat too much and I-m sure it-s because I am substituting smoking with food. Anyway, I worked out and dieted hardcore for over a month and nothing happened. Normally I lose weight relatively quickly if I am working my butt off at the gym and watching my diet. Is this lack of weight loss due to my quitting smoking? I smoked for 9 years.
another reason that u gain weight after u quit smoking is not just because u are eating more but because your metabolism actually slows down when u quit smoking. when u smoke consistantly the nicotine actually speeds it up. but i am struggling to quit smoking right now so it is good that u have quit. one way to avoid gaining as much weight is to eat healthy food and eat small amounts continously through out the day instead of one big meal when u are starving! that way your metabolism keeps working all day.good luck
Your body must now get used to the idea of no more nicotine - Do Not Give Up and maybe chewing gum will help ease the desire to eat and eat healthy foods
MY HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS FOR QUITING SMOKING.
Pl avoid meat and take vegetarian food.
No milk products.
Take count of your calories in your diet.
At the Gym do tread mill for as long as you start sweating.
Stop when you Sweat, see how many calories you have burnt.
The amount you burn must be 80% of your food calories.
You will slowly loose weight.Keep your Hip to waist ratio at 0.90..
Your BMI( body mass index) should be normal.
Take care of your health.
Let us make all the doctors watch TV in their consulting room.
Good Luck.
Smoking doesn-t have anything to do with it.

What you need to do is change your routine. IF you are working out in the afternoon then try working out in the morning. Try eating different foods then what you-ve been eating. Substitue fish like tuna for chicken. IF you are drinking diet sodas then stop because they have an enormus amount of sodium and that makes you retain water.

Drink more water because it helps flush out things in your body and actually helps lose weight.

Not knowing you I can-t really give you a detailed plan but this is what I almost always recommend to anyone at my gym.

Try working out in the morning before you eat anything. Walk and jog and do your exercises. Then eat a light but balanced breakfast.

You don-t want to starve your body because it won-t digest or use the food you do give it to burn energy...instead it will store it.

Remember that digesting food keeps your metabolism busy and this burns calories...so feed your body...not too much..just a small snack between meals....read exerpts from South Beach Diet or Body For Life and you-ll see the 6 meal a day plan.

Between breakfast and lunch you-ll have a cheese stick and some celery or something. There are kinds of varieties of stuff to try. Basically without taking in too many calories you keep fueling your body. I-d stay somewhere between 1500 and 2000 calories and remember no sugar because it makes you store fat.

When working out then push yourself beyond your limits. When you-re ready to quit make yourself go another 10 minutes or do another 10 exercises. You-ll be proud of yourself for going all the way.

I guarantee you will lose at least 15 pounds in the first month and then 1-2 pounds a week there after if you follow this method. Just remember that while you are doing this you-ll be replacing muscle with fat and muscle weighs more but it looks better, so don-t be discouraged if you feel like you are getting in shape but the scale doesn-t reflect it because once the muscle is there it will start using and burning off that extra fat to fuel itself. Then you-ll be dropping pounds again.

Good luck with this...please don-t give up...it-s inside every person to be successful at what they do...try looking at yourself in the mirror and telling yourself you know you can do it. Put a mirror in your kitchen along with your goal for the week written on it in erasable marker....that way you stare at yourself and your goal when you are trying to cheat or to reencourage yourself when you-re eating that cottage cheese and salad for dinner.

Share your goals with other people so you-ll be more apt to push yourself to reach them. Then share the fact you-ve reached them when you hit them. Write your accomplishment on part of the mirror too and you-ll be so proud of yourself.

sorry this was so long but it works and you-ll be glad you read it

congrats on quitting smoking too!
Yes, your metabolism slows down when you stop smoking making it harder for the body to burn off excess fat. Upping your daily exsercise and keeping an eye on your diet will help you maintain your weight.

I so want to quit smoking, but i-m not strong enough. I have to small kids, and i want to do it for them, and for my health.
I don-t think i can do it without help, like patch or gum.
What helped you? How did you do it? I don-t think cold turkey is for me(i wish)...
Thanks.
Perhaps a web search for -quit smoking- + -natural ways- might be useful.
My doctor gave me a prescription of Wellbutrin, it is an anti depressant. It doesn-t help with the nicotine withdrawals, but it helps you keep a positive frame of mind, so you can maintain the willpower to continue.

It was 1 month yesterday since I had a cigarette. I just didn-t give myself the option of not succeeding. When the cravings got so bad I didn-t think of it as a cigarette will make this feeling go away, I thought of it as time will make this feeling go away. If I can just stay strong, it will go away and I will feel better. Smoking is not an option!!!!!
Call the Seven Hundreth Club and pray with them. My mom did it and hasn-t smoked in 33 years. Just believe you are healed and it will be done and everytime you need a smoke believe you are healed from your addition and never give up.
Natailya, I have helped many people quit smoking and the first thing you should do is stop panicking yourself about how bad nicotine withdrawal is. Most people do go through a bit of initial irritability and edginess-but so what? If you are tough enough to take care of small kids you can handle a few days of tension. Exercise and deep breathing can help relieve that stress and help prevent unwanted weight gain. The most important thing is just decide to quit and keep telling yourself it is worth any temporary-your health and happiness are worth at least that much. Good luck to you!
I know a few people who simply ate oranges when they needed a fix.
They said it actually works quite well.
I had a friend who smoked two packs of menthols a day... he had AMAZING success with Chantix... I-ve heard it doesn-t work for everyone... but he didn-t even want to smoke after a week. My father also had success with it. I think it costs around $130 or $150... worth a shot, I-d say! Good luck!!!
Cold turkey! You have to want to do it. I tried patches and nicotine substitutes. They didn-t work for me. There as a new drug out that is supposed to bind to the nicotine receptor site.
I don-t remember what it is called, but it is being currently advertised on television and in magazines.
When you quit, you will need to clear away anything that you associate with smoking. Remember that when you get a craving, it goes away in a few minutes. Drink lots of water (nicotine leaves your system in about three days).
You will probably feel edgy for a few days, but this is the time to distract yourself by doing different things than you would be doing if you were smoking. If you feel the need to eat as a replacement, keep some raw or steamed veggies around to snack on. Most people have a tendency to gain weight because of indiscriminate eating.
I quit smoking in June of this year, actually lost weight rather than gaining, and I feel great.

Best of luck to you!
will power. i did it for my son. I just looked at his picture every time i wanted a smoke, and though, you deserve a healthy mommy. worked like a charm.
My husband and I set a target date to quit, and we both worked our selves up to it, thinking about all the nasties of smoking, smell , breath, dirty ash trays, yuk. We used the patch for the first week, but not after that, buy we had each others support. I smoked for 27 years and its been 8 years since we quit. Hope it helps
I made it for three months on the patch, not nearly long enough. I have heard good things about that new one...Chantix. I know a guy who was a heavy smoker and he has not smoked for a month now and has no desire to. Plus my mom-s boss has not smoked in over a year now which is a huge milestone, she quit with the Chantix too! I-m going to ask my DR. about a prescription! Good Luck, Those kids are great motivators aren-t they?
Don-t cop out with - I-m not strong enough-. Just do not put a cigarette in your mouth. Nobody is forcibly moving your arm and hand.
i quit cold turkey for my kids...just think how healthy you will feel. its better to suffer with quitting than to pay for it later in life...my uncle was diagnosed with cancer strictly caused from smoking...don-t just do it for your kids do it for yourself too!!!
How did you QUIT SMOKING????? patces, gum, or maybe something else? -

Whehter doctor have the right to refuse to treat patients who refuse to quit smoking? -

the more detail the better
thank you
The Hippocratic Oath is taken by all doctors. It warns against doing harm to a patient among other things.

If a doctor is of the opinion that treating a patient might cause harm or shorten the life of the patient, then they have the right not to treat the patient.

In the case of smoking, decreased lung volume and fatty deposits in the veins and arteries will reduce a patient-s chances of survival in an operation, especially if a general anaesthetic is used. Also, if, after the operation, the patient continues to smoke, they increase the risk of future problems.

If a doctor asks someone to stop smoking before an operation, this will have two benefits to the patient. Firstly, over time, the body will begin to heal itself over time as it gets a chance to rid itself of the toxins put there by smoking. Secondly, if a patient stops smoking for several months, they are less likely to go back to smoking afterwards.

It-s all about doing what is considered what is best for the patient.
In short, yes. My brother is an oral surgeon, and he has had patients that he requires they quit smoking (even if only for the procedure, like 3-4 months ahead of time). In many cases, it is too risky to perform the surgery if they do not quit, so he is able to refuse treatment. In other fields this may not be applicable, but generally I-m sure that if the surgery will fail or harm the patient due to their smoking habit, they can refuse.
Personally I feel that that is just a load of bullshit. I don-t think that a person who happens to smoke cigarettes is any different than those who do not smoke. Being a smoker myself, I would fight this through supreme court if a doctor refused to treat me just because I smoke cigarettes.
Hippocratic oath, which nearly every physician gives, states they should try to avoid harming them. Not treating them follows along these lines, not to mention it-s not very moral. However, free will dictates they can deny treatment to anyone.
Doctors can refuse any patient for any reason, unless it is an emergency.

I am 22, female, normal weight (right now), I eat heathy and...

I have smoked cigarettes for about 3 months!
You will be fine!! Go for it girl!! I know if you chew gum in you get a craving or lolli-pop or hard candy it will help! When it gets bad just change what you are doing to get your mind off of it! Quit now before you have been smoking for years it will be that much better and easier for yourself!!! Yeah for you and the best of luck!!
It is possiable that you will gain some weight...but if you only smoked for 3 months i dont think that you will gain any weight
no, just keep eating the same amount of food. Cigarettes suppress your appetite so when you quit you might be a little more Hungery!
You may gain weight, or you may lose weight. It varies for people.
You can gain anywhere from 5 to 15 lbs. Smoking speeds your metabolism, when you quit it slows a little, but after your body gets used to being smoke free, your metabolism will go back to normal and the wieght will be easy to lose. It is better than losing your breath, isn-t it
may be yes may be not.but i think u should be gain.
Not necessarily. I quit smoking, quit drinking cokes (sodas), and cut out all sugar at the same time. If you-re gonna be miserable when quitting smoking and miserable when cutting out sugar, I figured I might as well only be miserable once! It wasn-t too bad, and I lost 60 lbs over the next year, ending up actually underweight!
Possible but you-ll be healthier and have more money to spend.
well, maybe but if you control it then you should be fine but if you must you could go and talk to a docter to see what they say about that.
Very likely, but knowing why is half the battle.

Assuming you are addicted to cigarettes, smoking them helps you feel calm and withdrawing from them will make you feel anxious. Anxiety can make people want to eat, particularly carbohydrates like pasta and bread that on their own lead to a relaxed state.

Despite the relaxation effect, nicotine is a stimulant and has been artificially raising your metabolism. You will see a slowdown as it leaves your system.

You will miss the physical sensation of having something in your hand. Don-t underestimate that.

Your senses of smell and taste will return, making food much more appealing than it used to be.

Ways to deal with this: be particularly mindful of how much you eat and of what now, before you quit. Try to maintain that same amount, or even slightly less.
Find something to occupy your hands, even if it-s just fancy toothpicks. Crochet. Jewelry-making. Whatever fits into your routine.
Be more athletic--running and other aerobic activities will bring home to you how nice it is to have fully functional lungs, plus it will relax your body and mind.

And finally, warn your friends. You will likely be a grouch for the first couple of weeks.
Try an extra 45 minutes a day on the treadmill after you quit smoking.
You, like most, probably use a cigarette to stop anxiety and nervousness. Stop smoking and you gain a lot of weight. A Lot. They say chew gum, eat carrot and celery sticks. etc and on and on. This -replacement- therapy works for maybe one in one thousand. Once you realize this, you can set your plan and stop without gaining weight. Make a plan that you can live with not one made of -their- excuses. It is easy for -them- to give you ideas for -replacement- therapy as they are not the ones stopping smoking. Do not listen to their lies. Make a plan for you as to what you will do and then stop. If you can live with your plan you can stop without weight gain.
You-ll gain life.
Only if you replace the smoking with eating...
If you substitute eating for your cravings to smoke, yes, you can possibly gain weight. But if you watch what you eat - continue eating healthy, then I wouldn-t think you-d have anything to worry about.
Not if you replace them with carrots or celery sticks. Cigarettes can suppress your appetite, so you have to make sure that you don-t eat snacks with a lot of fat or calories when you give up smoking.

I tried every thing but I couldn’t

Please help me.....
First and foremost is that you WANT to stop smoking. I quit smoking 15 years ago. I was always told that it was easier to quit heroin than it was to stop smoking. I read about all those great upstanding people who said that they tried to stop smoking but could not stop. That really made me think that I would never be able to stop smoking. If these good people could not stop why should I even try, I thought to myself. Well let me tell you that you can stop and it is pretty darn easy to do.

First slowly cut back on the amount of cigarettes that you smoke per day. I would just put a few in a cigarette box and that would have to last me until I got home. Second change the brand of cigarette you smoke. The different brands taste different and this will lead you to think about why you like to smoke. Is it the brand or flavor that you like? Thirdly once you have cut down to four or five cigarettes per day slap on a nicotine patch.

I smoked for over twenty years then slowly cut back put on the patch and have not smoked in over 15 years.

I hope this helps you.
Below is my -BEST- answer from an earlier question:

Quitting smoking is not an easy thing to do, especially alone. The longer you-ve smoked, the harder it is going to be to kick the habit.

Quitting is going to require the assistance / guidance of a support group. Friends, family, and colleagues are going to have to support you during this time.

Trying to quit cold turkey usually doesn-t work. Using tools such as Nicotene Gum or a patch will help to reduce cravings. Eating carrot or celery sticks will help with the oral fixation associated with smoking.

Getting help from your doctor is probably a good way to go as well.

The American Cancer Society provides some good information as does the Wikipedia. Tobacco Free California is also a good resource to get help.

Bottomline, start with a plan. Involve your friends and family, and decide what is going to work best for you.
Stop buying cigarettes.
32 DAYS Tabbaco Free.

Tools: Hypnosis and MIGUN Thermal Massage bed.

Prior to this, I-ve tried to quit approximantly 12 times. . .each quitting time was painful, I passed out, had major headackes, and was the biggest B**** (female dog). With Hypnosis, I just quit . . . no headackes or passing out or irratability. I did spend 1 hour daily practicing to be a non-smoker, but it was a relaxing 1 hour. (Still doing this)

Cost: $40.00 cash/ $50.00 credit. . .Under 18 FREE.
just like i did.. with my will power.

if you dont have will power. even taking medication and those patches and stuff wont help.

just work on you will power. it would take a bit longer but you will be a twice winner.

you would have quit smoking + you will gain immense self confidence in yourself. also you will save money spent on cigrettes and medication

think about it
I have tried many times. The longest amount of time I stoped for was 2 weeks than I just (stupidly) picked one up and started again. Its hard but you have to really want to do it.(aparently I didnt want to quit too bad).
that- how I quit. Take the strongest cigarrete, like marboro red 100-s smoke it after drinking a warm, tall glass of milk and after you smoke drink another one. How sick it is going to make you, I didn-t want to smoke for the longest time.
Another, get pregnant(lol) or be around women who are.
I know it will be hard, try not smoking for 3 days, after that it-s not that hard. It-s the first 3 days hard to handle. Eat more. Run, have sex, watch TV. There is a lot of ways to stop thinking about smoking. Try chewing gum that you won-t chew otherwise. Gum that you don-t like the taste of. The association might help you out.
Good Luck.
First things first, do you really want to quit? if so then there are several ways to do so. But they only work if you are willing to quit. The patch almost worked for my husband but he did not have the drive to quit. Also the Stop Smoking pills advertised on TV work well, they help you clean out your body of the toxins from smoking. And offer a more natural way of curbing craving.good luck.
it-s very good to think about that which is already a step towards stopping
one way is too get a nicotine patch
another is subsitute something instgead of ciggarettes for example throw out all ciggarettes and stay away from people who smoke and get something like lollipops or anything and everytime u want to smoke eat a lolliepop or what ever you want to

Quit smoking recently and now im coughing? -

I-m guessing its just my lungs and throat recoiling in terror since they haven-t got their daily coating of tar..any suggestions? i-m on my 4th day cold turkey and i have no desire to smoke but my throat is so raw i can barely talk.
When you smoke it paralyzes your cilia, the little hairs that move mucus and junk out of your system. When you stop smoking the cilia start to -wake up- and have to work overtime to move all the crap out of your lungs. That-s why a lot of smokers cough so much in the morning, they haven-t been smoking while sleeping so their cilia finally get the chance to work. Congrats on quitting! Maybe some tea and honey would help soothe your throat??
That-s perfectly normal and will go away with time. You-ll start noticing a lot of changes in your body over the next three months. Just to give you a preview, here-s the changes I experienced in the order I experienced them: coughing/sore throat, sore lungs, depression, sleepiness, chocolate cravings (and I normally don-t even like it), anxiety, increased capacity to taste, and less shortness of breath/better lung capacity (you-ll notice this gets better over the next six months or so), weight gain. If you-re careful, you may be able to avoid some of the weight gain. If you are chewing nicotine gum, this could be causing the sore throat. Additionally, you may get heart burn chewing it. But, the gum helps a lot, and I recommend it when you start getting cravings.

Good luck!
congrats on your will power to quit. i hope you stay stong.

yes you lungs are weak right now from the lack of nicotine. its easy to catch something as simple as a cold. if it gets persistantly worse i would go see a doctor and tell them about it.
the coughing is your bodies way of trying to cleanse itself of all the build up. congratulations! try a spoonful of honey, or hard candies, or cough drops.

I-ve been smoking for 5 years and roughly a pack a day. I-m 19 years old if that helps. Also, will I ever be healthy again after I quit or will I always have bad lungs?

Help? =(
Its good you have the desire to quit. Its only the decision that is to be taken. As a tool go into a homeopathic drug store and ask for amena satieva ( mother tincture) ; Have 2 tsb in 100ml of water every time you get the urge to smoke. This will kill the urge with no side effects. After the 15th day you would have acquired the necessary will power to quit the tool too. Best of Luck and God bless you.

regards Ganesh
Chantix -ask you doc and don-t forget to get a referral to a pulmonologist, too.
u were smoking at that young? Well yes u will all ways have bad lungs
