I am trying to quit smoking? -

Hi I have been a Smoker for 12 years. I am ready to quit after smoking this long and cigarettes are getting expensive. I whiched to cheap cigarettes and now they are starting to climb on prices. WTF? LOL I wanna quit I would like to save the 100.00 bucks a month of what I spend for those worthless things.

What are some things than people to try as they quit smoking? I am talking about strategies instead of programs or gum-s, etc. I wanna quit cold turkey.
Just stop buying them.
Unfortunately the price of cigarettes getting higher is not a good motivator to quit. It may be at the beginning, but eventually you will go back. I suggest that you get reasons that are more substantial. Quitting is hard, but it-s being achieved everyday. Getting support from friends and family will help a great deal. Also going smoker anonymous meetings is helpful as well. Many cessation products are available just in case cold turkey is too difficult. Wanting to quit is a great start...I wish you the best of luck....fingers are crossed :)
Cold turkey-s probably not an option. I only smoked for 4 years, and I had to try everything. The thing that worked for me though, after about 3 weeks of nicotine gum, was regular gum. To me, it was replacing a habit with a habit. Now, I chew so much damn gum though...

The patches are ****. They did nothing for me. The lozenges (sp?) suck too.
i have been smoking for 37 yrs, i have been smoke free for almost 2 yrs now. what i did was the opposite things i did when i smoked. i use to go on the porch to smoke, i don-t go out there anymore. at lunch time i would go outside to smoke, not i eat in the lunch room. try to do things your mind cant relate it to a smoking incident. gl. sir.
Maybe u should check this out man. hope u get better
My mum uses Champix. If you go to the doctor he-ll most likely subscribe them to you so you can buy them, they work really well.
leave your money at home so you can not buy any whene you crave them
see, dont take ur money out for unnecessary reasons
I quit 100 times in my lifetime! Finally, when they came out with the Patch - back then you had to have a prescription for it - I decided I would try it - and by George - I got off those suckers - that-s been a good 20 years ago! Patrick Swayze died today from pancreatic cancer - mainly caused by his lifetime of smoking. Please read the following article showing what smoking can do to a guy-s penis - reproductive system. This could be the incentive you need to make your decision to quit.

What are my options?

Definite DON-Ts

Alcohol

Alcohol kills reproductive cells and decreases sperm viability. It also disrupts the link between the brain and the penis. Excessive use of alcohol inhibits the creation of the male sex hormone, androgen.

Smoking

Nicotine reduces arterial pressure and as a result, prevents blood circulation to the penis. In addition, toxic substances from smoking are detrimental for sperm maturation.

Marijuana

Sharply reduces the level of male sexual hormones, disrupts chromosomes and promotes undesired genetic changes.

Anabolic Steroids

Anabolic steroids bear a close resemblance to testosterone and as a result, the body stops its natural production causing impotence to occur.

High Cholesterol

Too much cholesterol blocks the vessels providing blood to the penis and thereby reduces the blood flow necessary to maintain an erection.

Overweight

Being overweight can disrupt your hormone balance and, as a result, the production of hormones necessary for achieving erection can become insufficient.

Chemical drugs

Studies show that out of two hundred most used medicines; as many as sixteen are likely to cause impotence. Among the most risky are drugs used for the treatment of high blood pressure, depression, insomnia, ulcers, tumors, plus a couple of medications used to combat allergy.

My fiance is trying to quit smoking. We have a 4 year old and a baby on the way and we have come to an agreement that he will quit within 2 weeks. It-s come to the point where I just don-t want him doing it. It-s a bad influence on the kids and not only that but bad for his health. He wants two weeks to try and ween himself off cigaretts. But I know that he is going to have a hard time. Any tips?
Do something productive that takes your mind off smoking. Second, try chewing that gum or using the patch. If that doesnt work chew bubble gum or eatting sunflower seeds works for me. IF all else fails there is a metal cigget they sale that has nicatine in it and a bad after taste after you smoke it that will help you quit smoking. good luck with your kid.
He could try acupuncture.
And prepare himself mentally for initially feeling worse off for not smoking. His lungs will clean themselves out so to speak and depending on how long and how much he-s smoked ... my brother-in-law and his missus were coughing and spluttering for at least two months!
A homeo remedy 1] caladium 30- pills - 4 pills taken 3 or lesser times a day for these 2 weeks ---- normal dose after that is -- 4 pills every 4th day half an hour after any food to be chewed
Will power is the key and imagining his babies tiny lungs filled with smoke.

Has anyone heard of laser surgery to quit smoking? -

Does this really work? How can a couple of lasers treat such an addiction?
I wouldn-t call it surgery. But it-s permanent. Cures smoking and all other ailments of life. Including life itself.

Cured the patient with a single pill, so to speak
I had heard about the pills to stop smoking.
Saw it online.
But then, I do not know how it uses.
If have to take pill, but for how long?
It might helped U quite smoking but lead U to be addicted to the pill instead!
Maybe whenever U smoke U tell yourself even after U smoke U still bored. Smoking not fun at all.
And day by day U-ll cut down and one day U might not need it again.
It-s all in your mind!
thats stupid in my opinion.
is that even a question please....the only way 2 quit smoking is by doing on ur own thats called WILL POWER
i don-t know

Does hypnotism work to quit smoking? -

Does hypnotism work to quit smoking? -

Looking for anybody who has had any experience w/ this.
I recently ordered John Carrs book -The easiest way to quit smoking.- I am a very, very long time smoker and heard about this book. I am now on chapter 9 and believe, after trying so many times to quit, think this book is the answer. Check it out on line. And good luck. I know a few that went with hypnotism, and that didn-t work for any of them.
it will work if you believe it will work.

the fact is, you have to DECIDE to quit smoking. it-s not like the cigarettes magically put themselves in your mouth and light. if you want to quit smoking, THEN QUIT. it-s that easy.

the only reason it feels difficult is because you-re convinced it will BE difficult. i smoked a pack a day for almost 10 years, before quitting cold turkey over a year ago. i WANTED to quit. i-m not gonna lie and say i didn-t have cravings. but the fact of the matter is, when you have a craving, it-s still a CONSCIOUS decision to put a cigarette in your mouth and light it. and every time the craving comes, and it-s time to make that decision, you must DECIDE to not smoke.

before long, the cravings stop, and the decision will no longer have to be made.

so yes, if you believe the hypnosis will work, then it will.
Some people, like me, are cyncial control freaks who can-t be hypnotized because we-re En Garde!
Now, for those three people I know who-ve tried,
IT FAILED.
Meanwhile, I-ve successfully quit smoking for two months, of my own free will.
For the fourth time in six years. :-)
THEY TOLD ME THAT SMOKING WOULD TASTE LIKE CRAP AND IT DID FOR THE 1ST FEW WEEKS,AFTER THAT IT WAS BACK TO NORMAL
it has worked for some people but hypnotism combined with group cognitive behavioral therapy is more effective
I quit cold turkey. And I-m smoke-free for 3 years now! My girlfriend was hypnotized and she quit for 2 years so, yes, it can work. I think the trick is that you have to REALLY REALLY want to quit and you will - by whatever method you choose. Good luck to you!
this is almost the same thing:

i command you to quit smoking....
nope, it work for 4 days, then back to smoking, went back to try again, laughed through the whole session, don-t waste your money.
Hypnotism helped me start smoking. So, I assume it can help people quit.
no. but is does help you to spend some of your money. I know someone who did it. He stoped or smoked less for a few days afterwards and bang - back to the same way it was before. I believe smoking has a lot to do with the social surroundings. Do you have friends that smoke??????? ;)

Everytime I quit smoking I cry alot and I get really depressed. Does anyone have the same problem? -

ME TOO. That-s why it-s called addiction.
Its normal. Your body is going through withdrawl which makes you very emotional. Luckilly and hopefully thats the only thing thats happening. Some people can only think about food and put on a ton of weight when trying to quit. So be thankful you are just crying. Everyday it will get easier! Good luck!
Depression is a classis nicotine withdrawal symptom. Try a natural remedy for it. I did and it worked for me. Natural remedies are harmless but effective.

Go to the following source for further info.
I am currently trying to quit and yes I feel like that sometimes. Especially at night. Good luck to you!
I am taking Chantix too - but I am very weepy. Everything makes me cry. I think it is your body switching over - hormones or something. Congrats on quitting! You can do it!

Anyone tried CHANTIX to quit smoking? Is it better than the patch? -

Yes I would recomment taking chantix to quit. I took it and I didn-t even have to take the whole 4 weeks. I just used 2 weeks and quit. It-s quite amazing. The patch didn-t help me at at all! Just a fair warning try not to smoke after the second day. You will get sick and throw up. If you are getting sick by taking just the pill and not smoking then you may need to cut back by taking half a pill instead of a whole one. Hope this helped!

Hi Crystal..

congrats on your decision to quit.. about the question... it really depends on your smoking habits, how many etc.. the pharmacist should be able to help you with those questions..

however you decide to quit good luck!! statistics have shown that regardless of your method.. participation in support group can dramatically improve your chances of quitting..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
You don-t need a patch. You don-t need a support group. You just need to stop smoking. I just told another would-be quitter how I cold-turkeyed after 15 years of 2 packs a day. It-s only as hard as you are weak. You aren-t weak are you?
Congrats : ) I will say this its a tough job to quit I have been smoke free for 1 year Oct 25.
I tried the patch but felt they always fell off : ( so I used the nicorette gum.
Best of luck and again congrats on your 1 ST step to quitting : )
talk to your dr. about chantix if there is no reason that you can not take it.

hi khamid M

I smoked for over 40 years, have now been quit for over 5 years..what worked for me was getting involved in a support group... I am a member of Nicotine anonymous.. I attend meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer!! you are welcome to attend meetings while still smoking..

Maybe try:

-Cigana is a healthier alternative to smoking. While regular cigarettes contain tobacco and 4000+ carcinogens, Cigana contains just nicotine. Cigana looks and feels like a regular cigarette, provides the nicotine that smokers crave, without the harmful, cancer-causing toxins, ashes, smells or second hand smoke.-
My spouse and I used Chantix. It-s a Rx that you must get from your Doctor. It worked, and we have been smoke free for almost three years. Combined we smoked for approx. 60 years. We weren-t cross with each other or anyone else. It Worked!
Start taking hard drugs like heroin or crystal meth you will then have a heavy addiction to them and will not care about smoking

Have been smoking for over 15 years and I really need to quit and looking for ways that actually work without gaining 50 pounds.
Eat apples
Eat Gum
Bite a pen instead of a cigarette
and do not suddenly stop smoking
stop it gradually.
Hypnosis?

It-s a proven thing. The website in my sources features a man who was smoking for 20 years and actually stopped through these methods.

You should try it, there-s nothing to lose - apart from the nasty smoking habit! :)
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
nic gum and exercise
i found that repolacing cigs with canabis through a pipe worked for me, been 1 year since my last cig :)
the patch
I quit cold turkey, but I know that doesn-t work for everyone. You also need to find out if smoking was just a habit or a physical need. Replace the habits, like sucking on hard candy while working, driving, watching tv, etc.and try to remove yourself from the temptations. Talk to your dr. about other methods of help.
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life.

Quit smoking symptoms? -

I quit smoking a month ago today, and since then I-ve had a constant heavy cough of mucus and pretty much had bronchitis like symptoms but have not gone to a doctor. My aunt says that its all the built up mucus from smoking coming up.. but should it really take several weeks? I-ve taken Mucin-ex twice a day for 2 weeks now and still constantly coughing. Please some advice

additional notes I-m 18 and smoked a pack a day for 3-4 years straight
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
Check out this article:

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!
Matthew.
Damn dood! I-m surprised thats the only symptom ur having. But yes. My friends kyle tried to quit smoking for a while and he had the same thing.
All i have to say is sucks for you and now you are going to pay the consequences for the rest of your life for starting something stupid like that.

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

i would say trying the patch or the gum that prevents u from smoking im really not sure but hope this helps.
What made me able to quit smoking was by stopping the consumption of alcohol for the most part. Another big thing is to stop smoking inside your apartment/house. You must get away from it in order to really easily stop. Having others smoke around you will only make you keep smoking, so forget even trying unless you get away from it. You must quit cold turkey though. Patches and gum WILL NOT work effectively, the reason you stop the urge to smoke is you are giving your body time to lose the chemical addiction to the nicotene. Good luck, it-s not easy but it-s worth it in the end. Keep in mind what happens to your body when you smoke. You raise your blood pressure which can essentially can give you a stroke, and you run the HUGE risk of getting lung cancer, throat cancer and/or mouth cancer. It-s all up to you. Do you really want to talk out of a box when you-re 60?
Look at the picture of how the cigarette smoke affects your lungs. See how your lungs are looking like now. Find out what toxins you are smoking into your lungs. Then.. see how lungs ravaged by CANCER looks like... Your lungs are not only yours BUT they ARE YOU! Destroy them - .... is there YOU...?????

http://www.livingwithoutcancer.blogspot.com
Stop making excuses and just stop!

-Oh I ran out of patches- isn-t good enough.
-I had a really hard day at work- isn-t good enough.
-You don-t know what it-s like to be addicted- isn-t good enough.

... Just stop.
They are invented cigarrettes like candies and the puff come out...
Well, I haven-t tried smoking, so I don-t know how it feels to be addicted to it. But I got a best way though. Ask God to help you and guide you in your life. Gud Luck =)
my suggestion would be to wean yourself off of them slowly. just try cutting back a couple of cigarettes a day or you could try eliminating the places/situations where you can smoke one by one until you feel confident to stop altogether. really though you have to want to quit, don-t just quit because you think you should, that usually doesn-t work in the long run, but hey, everyone-s different. Good luck!
The best way is the one that works for you. You need to decide whether you smoke from habit, OC behavior, nicotine addiction or just because you can. Once you know the why, you can address the issue (this is the how) and then quit.
In my case, it was OC behavior, so a lil Zyban and I was good to go.
HTH and good luck, I promise it is better on this side of the fence!
simply to realize that most goodlooking people won-t want to have anything to do with a habitual smoker.
~I-m glad you asked, don-t listen to the people who have never had this habit before. There are no magic words as you well know.
What works for me is not smoking when I wake up. I used a nicotine patch and went through all 3 steps.
Remember you will have the urges to smoke, but even if you did smoke, you would have those cravings. The good part about not doing so, is that it gets easier and easier as time goes by.
Stay away from people that smoke and places you would go to smoke.
Good luck.~
If you are a strong willed person and want to stop smoking then we can help you . where in you have to first believe in your self that you can stop smoking not for somebody but for your self. Now you should affirm that you can stop smoking without any bodies help. if you repeat this sentence 10 times a day and avoid smoking thinking o f this affirmation you will positively reduce and in a week or so stop it completely. But keep in mind that you should keep your self busy and not keep thinking of smoking all the time because you wanted to stop smoking and not to eat what ever you get in the time when you feel like smoking you wii gain unnessary weight.Do some thing positive like writing / singing or reading or exercise and don-t stop saying i want to stop /i wont smoke any more .this type of affirmations help a lot without any medicines. this is my experience with a lot of my patients 80% succeeded in giving up the habit of smoking after they tried the above affirmations for nearly 3 months . wishing you all the luck to stop smoking.
Hi,
I really empathise with you, I quit my 20 a day habit in a pain-free way this time last year!
No stress, no cravings, no weight gain, no pills, patches or gums.
The program I followed was recommended by a friend and now boasts a 90% success rate and is 100% fully guaranteed - can-t say fairer than that

All the best..

How long do i have to quit smoking weed to have a clean blood test? -

How long do i have to quit smoking weed to have a clean blood test? -

It all depends on how long you have been smoking. The drug in weed is THC and is basically stored in your fat. Thus the half life of the drug is much longer than say other drugs that don-t store themselves in your fat deposits.
If you have smoked maybe once or twice, which I-m pretty sure you have, or you wouldn-t be asking this question(Potheads know their ****) then give it a week or two. Excercise, drink lots of water and try to stay away from the munchies.
Up to six weeks
Depends on how often and how much you smoke. If you only smoke once in a while, give it three days to have a clean test. If you smoke daily, give it about 3 weeks.
30 days...and you know this, man.
I hear 30 days at least.........
Why dont you just stop its better then being a drug addict. People like you make teens and kids wanna do drugs. Just stop that way you dont have to cheat
longer than 30 days... I know that much.

Whats the best @ fastest way to quit smoking specially that am pregnant? -

I am not aware of any risks to ceasing smoking...lots of withdrawal symptoms, but risks....not really....

quickest way to quit....stop smoking...put out the cigarette and that-s it....

It-s typically called -cold turkey-.....

It takes about 3 days to get the immediate drugs out of the system...but there are tars in cigarette smoking that last about a year to get out...

There are some gentler ways to quit..and these include and are not limited to-

Nicotine gum
group therapy
hypnosis
pills like Welbutran, chantix

the gum, I believe you can get over the counter now....pills need a Doctors -script...group therapy, well, you have to find a -non- smoking- or a group of people quiting...

Best places to find those are the Seventh-day Adventist church [they actually have stop smoking clinics], the American Lung Association and the American Heart Association [find these guys in the phne book.]

Hypnosis may work, but is not a -cure all- and you have to want to quit...but my experience has been that it-s a good way to part with $400...it-s good for the hypnosis guy, not for you....but once in a while, I see a pt who praises some hypnosis clinic...not to often, but once in a rare blue moon
always have some candies(not too sweet) with you. And whenever you feel like smoking, think about your baby and how it will get badly affected by your smoking....
talk to your doc. there are risks associated with almost every stop smoking drug in as far as pregnancy goes. the risks are too great to take the advice of somebody off this site. with any drug you take at this time, they can be transmitted over the placenta to the baby so it is best to get medical advice from somebodyt that knows exactly where you stand in this pregnancy.
Visualize with every puff you take that your precious unborn baby is also inhaling the smoke and poisoning its body. I didn-t smoke during both my pregnancies. It-s a time when your baby-s health takes priority over your puffs on cigarettes. Good luck. I know it-s tough but you can do it for the sake of delivering a healthy baby.
People use Nicorette gum and patches. I don-t know if pregnant women can use those. I found another way to quit. 1) I really wanted to quit. 2) I bought bags of candy. 3) Whenever I wanted to smoke, I reached for the candy instead.
You should definitely talk to your doctor about this. It is best to not smoke but there are also the risks of using the stop smoking drugs. But as well if you go cold turkey your body might react with stress and the isn-t good either. DEFINITELY speak with your doctor about this! :) Good Luck to you!
think how you are killing your child! harsh but true!
you have to be aware about yourself... first of all think about your child which is your future.. you can surely quit for its well being... all the best.
the day i found out i was pregnant i smoked the rest of my box and didnt smoke again just do it with will power think of your baby its not as hard as it sounds wen youre pregnant beacuse youre doing it for somebody else GOOD LUCK
