I crave cigarettes when I drink, I want to quit smoking without quitting drinking. Any suggestions? -

Drinking is one of your triggers, so you have to break that trigger, just like some people associate a cup of coffee with a cig, or driving, or break at work etc.
There-s a lot of free info plus a great course to break your habit and the associations you have, here:
http://www.quitguide.com

Chew on a tooth pick or straw.
then when you drink and you smoke, if you don-t feel like smoking then don-t drink.
thats like saying u want to diet but still eat apound of cookie dough it wont work.....but if u realy want to do it u would stop both and i knpw u can do it just try....
When you know these facts, quitting is not that hard anymore.

Smoking will damage blood vessels in the penis and will shorten the penis and ultimately lead to impotence. This is all real. Canada and Australia alread force -Smoking can lead to impotence- label on cigarette box.

I just cant quit smoking :( help? -

I just cant quit smoking :( help? -

I quit smoking on Saturday at 5pm and haven-t touched a cigarette since...

But I desperately, desperately, desperately want one. Its all I can think about. I can-t even get up for wanting a smoke and im panicked about how to get through Christmas without cigarettes.

Would it be acceptable to smoke say 2 a day and thats it? One on waking up, one before bed? Surely thats got better health implications than 20 a day?

I can-t think straight :(
I think you just went about it the wrong way. You have already set yourself up for tough times because you have the wrong mindset. What I would do is just take it up again - easy now! - only so you can quit the right way this time.
Sure less cigarettes is better, but it won-t make you get through this either. Any cigarette will keep the addiction alive. So I would suggest you don-t put any pressure on yourself and just smoke as usual. Just quit after Xmas (and NY). But plan to quit as follows:
Cold turkey is good - but do it a little differently. You just need sort out your head BEFORE you quit. Trying to do it afterwards is what makes it hard.
Be glad you don-t have to do that anymore - that you are getting rid of this filthy addiction. Never think you will miss it - that-s what makes it hard. But instead see yourself as happy, content and proud that you-ve done it.
If you prepare yourself properly, you can easily override the withdrawal pangs completely and it won-t bother you at all to be in situations or with people where before you smoked. I know that from experience - my partner and plenty of my friends still smoked all around me when I quit - no problems at all!
Here-s what you need to do in very, very short form:
1. Decide that you get nothing out of smoking (it’s only the truth)
2. Pick a quit-date so you have some time to prepare
3. Look forward to quitting (get excited about it) - essential!
4. Quit… easily
I had the same theory you had, I was smoking about a pack a day. I wanted to quit so I slowly slimmed it down to about 10 a day, then I finally went from 10 down to 5, 1 in the morning, 1 after i get off the school bus, 1 after i get a bite to eat, 1 after dinner and 1 before bed, then i ended up slimming it down to only smoking 3 a day. 1 in the morning 1 after i get off the school bus and 1 after dinner and to this day I still only smoke about 3 cigarettes a day. Or what you can do is, make yourself a budget and tell youself this money is for cigarettes, this money is for blah blah blah. If you smoke a pack of cigarettes a week then you set 6.50 on your dresser and put the rest in your bank account or give it to someone you trust and give your banking card to a trusted friend, after you spend that 6.50 on your pack, and when it-s gone, you break all of your lighters and matches
First , determine what type of addiction do you have ?

1) - Nicotine addiction : (The good feelings that result when an addictive smoke is present — and the bad feelings when it-s absent)

What are the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal?
* irritability * impatience * hostility * anxiety * depressed mood * difficulty concentrating * restlessness * decreased heart rate * increased appetite or weight gain

If you have it , read these e-books I hope they can help you
http://ffnicotine.com/free.html
http://www.whyquit.com/joel/#book

Nicotine gum/nicotine patch (It is used as an aid in smoking cessation) + you should go to a doctor .

2) - Psychological addiction :
Your real job in giving up smoking lies in REALLY UNDERSTANDING that you don-t NEED to smoke.
You remove the psychological addiction to smoking.
You will never be truly free until you realize that smoking is not a real pleasure and that when you stop, you WILL NOT BE depriving ourselves of a real pleasure and then you will not only be able to give up smoking for good but you will enjoy doing it !

GO AHEAD , YOU CAN DO IT .. YOU CAN =)
one or 20..its all bad for you equally..sorry that thinking doesnt work. because if its one, you-ll want another and another..thats how the addiction started right..

your best bet is to do the taper off method..instead of cold turkey.
set a date to quit by..usually try a month from when you decide to start cutting back. cut back each day eventually getting down to a few a day to none..and by your quit date..dont smoke any more. you need support too. dont be around those who smoke, or go to -trigger- places. avoid those -trigger- places that you smoke most often at..in the car, at work, on the computer, drinking coffee etc. use gum or sunflower seeds to satisfy the oral part..the biggest part of quitting isnt the withdrawl, but the associations. its hard, but if you have will power you can do it..but you must really want to do it.

i-ve been quit for over 4 years now, and there are times when i still crave. i even dream about smoking at times..you-ll never fully get over it..tobacco is THAT addicting..but i-m at the point where i can be around smokers and i-m fine. good luck..you will feel much better after you quit.
Why don-t you try the patch? What your experiencing is nicotine withdrawal. Patches can regulate the nicotine while you deal with the mental urge to smoke. You can try smoking less and less over time until you quit completely but it is harder to do because you are losing the nicotine AND the hand to mouth habits at the same time.
hello, I feel your pain... i was a smoker for many many years and i tried quitting at least 10 times. I finally gave up on quitting but i ran into an alternative. About 6 months ago a friend introduced me to electronic cigarettes. I was skeptical and told him to get them out of my face. he then started to explain the benefits of them. They are smokeless so ur not inhaling the cyanide, tar and ammonia in the tobacco and he said i could smoke them in my office. I finally tried some called blu cigs and were amazed. I haven-t had a real cigarette in 5 months and i-m going strong. they also have different nicotine levels. They are really awesome and very affordable. check them out. i hope this is going to help you.
If it-s been almost 3 days, you-ve passed the worst of the withdrawal symptoms. I gets much better I promise. Think about all the benefits of not starting smoking again: The money you-ll save and the health problems you-ll avoid. I know it-s hard but it-s doable. When you get cravings, you just need to distract yourself for a little while until it passes. In a month you-ll notice you hardly ever crave a cigarette.
iv tried several times this year to quit, because we cant afford to smoke especially both of us, i decided im the one that hasnt got any money coming in so i should be the one that gives up but i did it because i felt i had to each time and not because i wanted to and tbh it doesnt work unless you really really want to. iv been more successful the first time i tried this year as i didnt tell anyone and that way i felt proud of myself for staying off them and if i had a relapse noone would know.
No it will only lead you back to smoking again. I gave up smoking but cannot not smoke when im having a drink. ive been drinking and smoking the past 4 years now and i would love to be able to give smoking up when i drink too cause lately im going out more and smoking more and i really feel it. i went to the gym and was finding it hard to catch my breath and i know its cause of those damn things plus i was getting severe cravings last night. name one good thing about them?
Nope. Once you allow yourself those two, you won-t see the harm in adding one more in the middle of the day, and you-ll just go back to your old cycle.
Try doing something else to keep your mind off it. Chew gum and get off the internet and do something interesting :-)
Don-t give up smoking! do what I did. I just told myself I was not going to buy any more smokes just smoke freebies. nobody gave me one so I haven-t had one for 15 years, ! mind you I don-t have many (any friends) that smoke, it helped!
I don-t make you smell my butt, don-t make me smell yours.
But, seriously go for small goals where you-re not allowed to smoke for like 24 hours. Slowly make it longer and eventually stop and you-ll feel much better about it.
use nicotine patches. if u put one over each eye, u cant find ure smokes!!

sorry, i quit, and it was hard, u just have to wanna do it, and it will come easier in time. will power is best.
No, its best to go cold turkey bare it out. If you start on 2 a day, you will want more and more.

The only way to stop is to stop fully
Why don-t you try a stop smoking aid? It-s really difficult for most people to just quit outright. Some nicotine gum might help you.
the first three to four days are the most difficult - stick with it and don-t give in, your life will be so much better without them.
so smoke no one is stopping u.
Well, you could try just one a day...that-d be better. Although, you should stop all smoking.
hi Anna..
congrats on you time away from the smokes, that-s a big deal... for me the problem was that i couldn-t just smoke 2 a day... invariably i was right back to my previous level.. while cutting back works for some i was not one of those.. good luck on your quit!!

if you do light up its not the end of the world, however you start from day one, and not where you left off.. i had to quit several times before i got the quit to stick, that meant detoxing several times, its not fun, and many never get around to quitting again, so whatever you do don-t quit quitting..

the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

I quitted smoking last year but have recently started again after my dad died.I am now smoking even more than before and am finding it really hard to quit. Does any1 have ideas how I can get back on track?
Cinnamon nicotine gum worked for me. Satisfies oral craving as well as nicotine craving. Then switch to weaker nicotine gum and eventually to Dentyne.

My tummy is puffed out, I quit smoking, have not gained any weight but my stomach is visibly puffed out? -

I work out Monday to Friday run 8.5 miles per day, Saturday run 7 miles and weights every other day, the only think I have changed in my routine is 2 more miles M-F. Why am I puffed out so bad, I thought I was gaining weight but I am the same. I have been smoke free for 58 days.
Sometimes the skin and tissue of the stomach sage because the muscle wall of the stomach and back are weak. You say You have been running 8-7 miles and lifting weights but have been working on your abs? If not this may be the answer to your problem. Add an abdominal workout say three times a week and you should see results.

How to quit smoking? -

just dont smoke ????????????????????????????????????????…
There are numerous ways to quit smoking available today, but how can you find the best one?Now I will show you some common ways to quit Smoking:

1 One way to stop smoking is through Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). While this is not the best effective way to stop smoking and this is for short time use, about 20-40% of smokers find success on this method. This therapy includes wearing patches, chewing nicotine-containing gums and nicotine nasal spray or inhaler. This method reduced the physical symptoms of withdrawal from smoking like irritability and tiredness.

2 Cold turkey is another way to stop smoking. This is the most popular method though not the best effective way to stop smoking. This contributes to only 5% of success per try. Cold turkey means to stop smoking immediately and without preparation. Smokers have to try this over and over again to succeed.

3 The Gum is good for many smokers because it gives you something to do with your mouth while kicking the smoking habit. With most nicotine gum, you chew the gum a few times and store it between the lip/cheek and gum. The nicotine is then released through your gums and cheek. This is a great way to quit smoking because you satisfy the chemical and some of the mental dependency of smoking.

Hi Anilpavan Kumar, yes, actually quit smoking is not easy, because it is an addiction. However there are very many ways and methods that help us to quit smoking for instance we can opt for acupuncture therapy, or laser therapy, or aromatherapy. We can also opt for non-nicotine cigarettes or go for precise prescription by a doctor.

But first and foremost we need to decide in our heart to stop smoking and should also fix a day for the same. Inform your family about your decision and seek for their help and assistance. Throw away all the cigarette packets, ashtrays and lighters. Stop buying any more cigarettes. Rather think of the more useful and better things that you can buy with the money thus saved. Ask the other family members also, who smoke, to stop smoking. Keep yourself busy. Exercise regularly and meditate occasionally. Eat healthy food.

Some people are not able to continue with the smoke cessation programs because they say that they are costly. But this is a wrong perception because they are not costlier than the price spent for buying cigarettes.

Jason Homan
First you should have strong commitment to stop smoking. Then you have to start stop smoking. Try not to substitute with another item. control your body weight when you start to stop smoking and don-t blame your self if you fails.
It-s called -cold turkey-
get addicted to something alternative...he he he
if you really want to quit and your mind is made up dont buy any more its hard to keep your mind off of it but after the third day its not so bad anymore dont wast money on all the quit smoking thing find a home remady for it.to flush the nicatine out of your body faster if i rember its oj and tarter powder mixed it keeps the cravings away
whenevr u feel like smoking..just pop one bubblegum in ur mouth. as long as it stays in ur mouth u wont feel like smoking.

i just found this site..u can check it out
1. Use the Patch
2. Don-t buy any more cigarettes.
3. Don-t hang out with people who smoke
4. Make an honest promise to the person you love the most that you will not smoke any more.
5. Resist the temptation with distraction
6. Exercise
7. Instead of spending money to buy cigarettes, give the money to a homeless or a poor person
Think deep about smoking....why you smoke, it has become an unconscious habit and the remedy lies in unconscious mind. Immediately after waking up in the morning and 5 minutes before going to bed, think deep in your unconscious mind, give auto suggestions about quitting smoking. You will see the improvement within a week.
You could try Chantix, it costs around 125$ for a 28 day supply, I work at a pharmacy and have heard many success stories, We even have a lady that works there that used it. most people have to buy 2 to 3 months worth. it not only makes you not want to smoke, but also makes it feel pointless and Gross if you were to try. before you write it off cause of the cost think of what is spent on the habit first

1 pack a day at 5bucks a pack for 28 days 140.

Good luck! its a Great decision to quit.

My husband has health problems and i want him to quit smoking i have tried taking him to classes , the patches -

can anybody offer some suggestions?dr. says hes high risk for a heartattack i-ve tried everything, and its just not working . Hes smoked for years and i realize its a tough habit to break but in his case its life threatening.
search for what professional would say about that , like for example see the health information center
http://google.com/coop/cse?cx=0071853080…
I am sure you will find some useful tips and techniques to help him quit smoking
Your husband has to want to stop. If he doesn-t, everything you try is irrelevant and a waste of time. If he isn-t aware of the dangers smoking puts on his own health, then chances are slim he-ll quit.

If he does want to quit, then all you can do is continue trying different methods until you-ve found what works. But the reality is, his own discipline and will-power will be the deciding factor.
smoking can be a another form of addiction.Your husband should seek for a proffesional guidance about that matter.
Tell him straight up how you feel! Also tell him you don-t like it and if he must continue to smoke then not to do it around you.
You can get off his back about it , flat out tell him that if he chooses to smoke himself to death , then thats his choice. But that you love him and want him to quit so he wont up and die on you before his time. You cant -make- him do anything. He will do or not do as he wishes.
throw his ciggaretts out
explain to him that you will not be able to stick around and watch him kill himself ..... that you can-t bear it and that you married him so you could grow old with him....and not someone else.
we had the same problem until I told him that.( the crazy thing is that I ended up with the heart problem - and I didn-t smoke) anyways, for both of our sakes - he did stop. Keep on it and be supportive....praise him everyday....and he will stop.
In order for your help to be taken seriously as help and not nagging, your husband has to be a man, and step up to the plate in taking the steps for himself to try and break the habbit. If he doesn-t have the want and the will-power to quit, he won-t take any of your help seriously.

Will i gain weight if i quit smoking? -

i am interested in quitting ive been smoking for about 4 years and have been dieting trying to lose weight. i am not extremely overweight but could stand to loose 10-15 lbs. i have been speaking to numerous people who say if i quit smoking i will gain weight. is this true? if so what is the scientific explanation for gaining weight when quitting smoking. i am really fed up and am starting to loath the smell - taste of the cancer sticks but will be forced to keep smoking till i drop the weight i need to by the summer.
You-re going to lose weight and be more healthier, not fatter.
There are 2 problems:
1. Your taste and appetite will improve so you might be tempted to eat more - My Advice: have some self respect and don-t be greedy or pig out! Eat sensibly and healthily and get some exrecise.
2. If you substitute eating for smoking - My Advice: be self aware and recognise if you-re eating lollies or high calorific snacks as a substitute for cigerettes.
People who gain weight when the quit smoking do so because when you smoke you get used to having somthing in your mouth.it becomes habit so when you quit you dont have the cigs so you eat food instead. But, instead of eating try chewing gum that helps you quit smoking; you know nicotine gum (not too sure thats what its called).Good Luck!!

i appologize to the person who answered before me I was typing mine and i guess you submitted a little before me. and I have repetted everything you said my bad
Yes, you will gain weight when you stop smoking, and the reason is that cigs are a natural appetite suppressant. When you quit smoking, you regain some of your appetite, which will cause you to gain a modest amount of weight.

Stop smoking now. Gain the bit of weight, then work out and take it all off. It will be much easier than trying to work off the weight, stop smoking, gain the weight, and lose the weight again.
Most smokers find that they need to put something in their mouth instead of cancer sticks and usually that is food. Plus nicotine is an appetite suppressant. As long as you are conscious that this will happen you can put strategies in place to prevent weight gain. Such as having a ready supply of gum available, or keeping healthier snacks around (carrots vs candy). Also studies have proven that smokers who exercise while trying to quit will not only have a better chance of quitting but will also stave off weight gain.

I hope this helps!

which stop smoking aid works the best
Sleep problems are part of the process of getting over the nicotine addiction.

Insomnia is one of Zyban-s most common side effects (it hit me hard when I used it to try to quit).

The most successful quit-smoking aid right now is the new drug Chantix, from Pfizer.

http://www.chantix.com

Success rate of 20% is reported.

Good luck.
Some can-t sleep and others all they want to do is sleep/ If you wear the patch 24/7 you will have problems with insomnia and nightmares and such. If you take it off you will sleep better, but put the next one on as soon as you get up! The best method in my opinion is a combination of 14 mg patch and 2 mg gum. Good Luck, and just take Melatonin if you can-t sleep. Take care.
No.

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

Acupunture was shown to be effect on the BBC Alternative Medicine - Acupuncture documentery. Also consider seeing a clinical licensed hypnotherapist.

Other than that, follow the usual protocol of the patches, gum, ect. If you live in the UK, the NHS has a campaign on to help ween you off.

Also ask yourself why do you smoke?, is it because it has become a habit, or because you think its cool, or because others smoke and you don-t want to be left out, or does it calm you down?

Get to the cause, and address it, either yourself, or with the help of a hypnotherapist.

Hope this helps.
I will give you two helps.. There is an anti-depressant that had great effect on those with depression.. They did some tests and found that only half that dose would make smoking undesirable! Then there is the others.. I bought Nicolette,, chewed tobacco and still had a cigarette hanging from my mouth! We need to get spiritual with addictions! Seek a good Bible believing church and let them help! Addiction, God says, is spiritual. Earl
Mind over matter. Beat your self up a little bit. After you run out don-t buy anymore. Just tell yourself three days. Everytime you think of a cigarette think of something else. It will be hard and painful, but it feels so much better then using nicorette in the long run. Also, lay low for a few days. Chances are your friends smoke and that will just make it harder for you. Good Luck.
I tried everything and none of it worked and it wont until you are ready to quit you have to really wont to quit and not because someone is begging you to when you quit quit cold turkey one day at a time thats how i did it and it has been 8 months
ps i smoked for 27 years
Chew on cinnamon gum, even brush teeth with cinnamon toothpaist. Drink a glass of graprfruit juice after meals. Those flavors make smoking taste terrible. Praying for help wouldn-t hurt either. Don-t be around other smokers and get a support group, or friend that will help you stay distracted.
Congratulations on your decision to get the nicotine monkey off of your back. It takes some people an entire lifetime of coughing and hacking and they never quit.

I quit Jan. 11, 2007 and it took about three days to get rid of the urge to smoke...each day got easier until finally I was nicotine free.

The BEST way is not to start.

However, I am told that Nicorette is pretty good.

You might also talk to a doctor.
Don-t buy more cigs after you-ve run out.
And don-t ask for one when you see someone smoking.
You have better **** to pay for.
The best way is to lose one lung, than lose the other.. and that-s it.
There is no best way. That is why it-s so hard.

seriously. i didn-t think i was a vein person until i quit smoking gained weight and broke out. my friends said im detoxing, if that is so why just on my face. i quit smoking to be healthy now im just self conscience and depressed as hell. i feel fat and ugly. wasn-t worth quiting in my book but im too stubborn to go back to smoking. this sucks.
The weight gained isn-t from the lack of nicotine, it-s from the extra eating you-re doing to keep your hands moving to your mouth (it-s like replacing one bad habit with another). The acne could be from the extra chocolate or sugar you-re ingesting as well.

Cut out the -non-smoking snacking- and you-re problem should subside.
after a month you will still be experiencing withdrawal and it will be your mind lying to you to be depressed and feel fat etc...hang in there ...the end result will be worth it....

tell me your quit smoking stories, I need some tips. Thanks! :)
cold turkey, after the first couple of days its gets a lot easier. I didn-t smoke for long, only a couple of years on and off but have not had one in months. its just a will power thing.
smoker started at 14,I am 38 now and quit cold turkey last February due to several reasons. made breathing easier at my job and I am saving a lot of money by not doing it anymore!
I took the pill Chantix It went really good Every once in awhile I have to take a deep breath but then it is gone. No cravings at all while on it or after really. You do have to eat a meal or a good snack or you will get nausea. on the whole its the best thing to come along IMO.I also got really active and a lot of time on my hands so I took up yoga,to help with the sweet tooth also lol. I smoked for 40 years.
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

In my opinion quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination. If you truly want to quit forever and have belief in your own abilities than you will quit.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
I smoke 1.5 pack for 13 years before I finally quit. I did it cold turkey...
I am not sure what methods have you tried before however i have one word of advice, just quit instead of trying to quit.

I know it sounds easier said than done. I have tried smoking lesser, -light- (only smoke more because I couldn-t get the kick out of them) but they didn-t work.
I also tried quitting a few time before I finally succeed.
I finally did it one day, 12 years ago and have stay smoke free ever since.
My wife asked me one question that day, -when are you going to quit-?. You keep saying you are but I have not seen you do anything about it. Guess that triggered me to take action and I quit there and then. I know it may sound amazing and others reading maybe skeptical ... anyway, that-s my story.

I quit before the days of the internet. Today, there are plenty of quit smoking help online today but I must say not one method is going to work for all. You need to find one that suits you.

Whatever it is, Don-t Give Up!!
Rope in your family and friends and tell them your quit smoking plan, having their support is important too.

I quit smoking a little over a month ago and it is harder to breathe now.? -

i quit smoking about a month ago and lately I have been finding it harder to breathe. I don-t cough up much stuff anymore, but I get out of breath and can-t breath if I over exert myself.

What-s going on and when will it stop??
Soon. It is just your body finding a new normal. The coughing while the mucous stopped actually opened airways better. Now that you aren;t coughing all of the time.....
Well it certainly depends upon how long and how much each day and your body-s response to it. Some folks can and do smoke for a lifetime with little effect but I wouldn-t bet my life on most folks having that response. We usually use 6 months to a year to see how much reserve you will get back. That being the normal functioning of the respiratory system. I am a little concerned that you are suffering shortness of breath upon exertion. My suggestion is to see your doc and/or a pulmonologist for a pulmonary function test and direction towards exercise tailored to you. This is really the only way you can know how you will fare. Ask your doc if you have a pulmonary rehab facility in your area. Best of luck to you. Congratulations on the first huge step toward a healthy future.

If a person has quit smoking for several years, would using a low dose nicotine patch make one smoke again? -

If a person has quit smoking for several years, would using a low dose nicotine patch make one smoke again? -

Would it make a person crave more cigarettes?
There are reports that folks get addicted to the pacth and or gum
That is a very good and very tricky question.

It shouldn-t do because you-re not getting into the habit of putting it into your mouth and/or getting into the habit where you need to find something different to do with your hands.

The actual habit from smoking and trying to break it is more psychological than anything else, especially after the first 5 days.
If a person has quit smoking for several years, would using a low dose nicotine patch make one smoke again? -

How do I quit smoking? -

How do I quit smoking? -

We have read the Alan Carr book and still no success. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Will power is the best and most effective way of quiting smoking.
It takes only 1 step...YOU!!!!!
You have to want to quit. I smoked 2 packs a day for over 35 years..then one day walking thru the park ..I said..-good day to quit smoking-...Remember..YOU!!!! have to want to quit.
I was a 2 pack a day smoker for 30 years when I responded to a mail solicitation from a NY Psychology group that said it treated smoking like any other addiction. Here is what they did:
1. Write down the 5 most enjoyable cigarettes of the day. Is it with a cup of coffee or a cocktail? Whatever it is track it for a week. When you quit, give up those things that are most enjoyable with a smoke. This means no cocktails or coffee or whatever until you are convinced you are no longer hooked on nicotine.
2. Get a Dr. to prescribe an anti-depressant. Why, because smoking has an effect on your brain and when the nicotine stops, you get depressed. The depression caused by nicotine cessation is one of the reasons so many of us fail to quit smoking. As well, an anti-depressant will help you control weight so that you don-t balloon. I took a very small doss of Prosac for about 4 months.
3. Pick a date when you are going to quit. On the day before you will quit -hot-, meaning you will smoke as many cigarettes as you can.The next day, your quit day, you will feel awful and the thought of another smoke will be a turn-off.
4. Get more exercise. I joined the local Y and started an exercise regiment as exercise helps you rid yourself of the -demons- that drive us to smoke.
The first few day days are the worst, it felt like I was having an out of body experience so that my voice seemed to be coming from another part of the room. The anti-depressant take a few days to kick in and getting use to the drug was not easy. At first I felt like I was flat lined into a catatonic state but I am particularly drug sensitive and that may not be a typical drug reaction. Thereafter, I was fine and my urge to smoke was gone in a month.
I had quit smoking before without success. Following the above regimen helped me stay smoke free and after 11 years of being smoke free I enjoy excellent health and have lots more money, what could be better?
Go on some sites, or the best is to see a nurse, or a doctor. As well you can go to a pharmacy which they have those patch to help quiting. Good luck.
well i ur from aus...just call da quit help line...u get a free booklet nd u can call em up 4 free..nd tey will help u
pray to God for help and believe in yourself that u can.
remember: you CAN if you THINK U CAN
Wish I could answer this question! Wish I-d never seen a cigarette! Some of these people that try to truly be @$$ holes are Not impressing nobody with the exception of maybe themselves. Right? Anyway Good Luck and by chance if you get some good advice email me : hmbaib@yahoo.com
PLEASE!

If I quit smoking today, how long would it take to feel human again? -

At 2 weeks I already felt much better and cravings were much less intense. At 1 month I think I actually felt human again. Good Luck!
Look, if your addicted then you will never feel completely normal, You will always have a subtle craving for a smoke. But don-t be discouraged, the first 2 weeks are the absolute worst, if you can get past that you are on the right track.
What were you smoking that made you feel inhuman? And where can I get some?!
Within 12 hours after you have your last cigarette, your body will begin to heal itself. The levels of carbon monoxide and nicotine in your system will decline rapidly, and your heart and lungs will begin to repair the damage caused by cigarette smoke.

Within a few days you will probably begin to notice some remarkable changes in your body. Your sense of smell and taste may improve. You will breathe easier, and your smoker-s hack will begin to disappear, although you may notice that you will continue to cough for a while. And you will be free from the mess, smell, inconvenience, expense, and dependence of cigarette smoking.

As your body begins to repair itself, instead of feeling better right away, you may feel worse for a while. It-s important to understand that healing is a process-shyp;it begins immediately, but it continues over time. These -withdrawal pangs- are really symptoms of the recovery process.

Immediately after quitting, many ex-smokers experience -symptoms of recovery- such as temporary weight gain caused by fluid retention, irregularity, and dry, sore gums or tongue. You may feel edgy, hungry, more tired, and more short-tempered than usual and have trouble sleeping and notice that you are coughing a lot. These symptoms are the result of your body clearing itself of nicotine, a powerful addictive chemical. Most nicotine is gone from the body in 2-3 days.
couple of months, then you can smell the nasty smoke on other people... yuck!
From my own experience three days of feeling bad and mad at everyone---Then you should began to feel better--- find something to do after eating or drinking---change your habits do a lot of walking.
depends. how long you have been smoking? and how frequently?
No one mentions the severe withdrawals and cravings. Do yourself a favor honey, get yourself a nicotine patch, it helps a great deal.
At 20 minutes after quitting:
blood pressure decreases
pulse rate drops
body temperature of hands and feet increases.

At 8 hours:
carbon monoxide level in blood drops to normal
oxygen level in blood increases to normal

At 24 hours:
chance of a heart attack decreases

At 48 hours:
nerve endings start regrowing
ability to smell and taste improve

Between 2 weeks and 3 months:
circulation improves
walking becomes easier
lung function increases

Between 1- 9 months there are significant improvements in:
coughing
sinus congestion
fatigue
shortness of breath

At 1 Year smoke free:
excess risk of coronary heart disease is decreased to half that of a smoker

At 5 years smoke free:
from 5 to 15 years after quitting tobacco, stroke risk is reduced to that of people who have never smoked.

At 10 years smoke free:
risk of lung cancer drops to as little as one-half that of continuing smokers
risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases
risk of ulcer decreases

At 15 years smoke free:
risk of coronary heart disease is now similar to that of people who have never smoked
risk of death returns to nearly the level of people who have never smoked

Im ready to quit smoking cigarettes, what advice can you give me? -

I tried using the Patch once, but it caused a severe skin rash on every part of my body that I placed it:(
There-s a site that lists all the positive effects after quitting smoking. it really can encourage you to keep on track. Gives you something to work towards. It-s like a time line.

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/PED/conten…

Check it out. There-s also a lot of other useful information there.

Good luck!!! It-s HARD, and you-ll probably be UNBEARABLE to live with until you go through the withdrawal.....but hang in there! It-s worth it!
it-s mind over matter. resolve and reward. quit smoking and treat yourself out to an ice cream cone with a friend. this will confirm your quiting with a witness, giving you necessary strength to continue through their praise. the ice cream will make you feel good about making the proper decision. simply invite or go over a friends house, throw away your cigs and lighter, and say lets go get an ice cream cone to celebrate. then do it and forget about the past you have become anew at the first lick.
Go you! You are really smart to quit smoking. If you need something that will remind you to not smoking and eat lots of berries, I don-t know how it helps but I-ve heard it does if that doesn-t work try nuts, and candy canes so that you can pretend you are smoking the candy cane. Also try gum.
they have cigarettes that you can buy that have less nicotine or none at all. try a brand called quest they are hard to find but they are sold at rite aid and some gas stations and are less expensive than regular cigarettes. It works the same as the gum, first you buy the 4mg smokes and stay on them for a couple of weeks, then you buy the 2mg smokes and then you buy the smokes without any nicotine. i know someone who tried them and said they were not bad at all and he smoked 3-4 packs a day and quit completely in a month. they also have a lemon water you can drink with nicotine called nic lite there number is
800-325-1019.
I was in your shoes a couple of months ago. In my eyes the best thing was gum, lots and lots of gum!!
There are new prescribed treatments out there that you can talk to a doctor about, or even research online. Other than that option, its pretty much will power and cold turkey.
This depends on how much you REALLY want to quit. If you REALLY want to quit.....then go cold turkey, take it one day at a time....and DON-T start again. Don-t buy cigarettes, don-t take one from someone else, don-t even have a lighter. How good is your will power? If you really want to quit, you-ll be surprised how actually strong you are. Best of luck to you..........
Have you tried a new therapy involving cold lasers? They do something to your ear with lasers, not sure, but am ready, myself, to check it out. (cough, cough) Smoking sucks, even for us who still do it. It-s just extremely addictive, and we are just a bunch of junkies. Help!!!
When you crave a smoke - drink ice water. Also, exercise helps combat cravings (and keeps you from gaining weight during the quitting phase).

Good Luck!
Smoking is haraam in Islam
Powerful arguments based on the Quran and Sunnah from Dr. Ibrahim B. Syed

Cigarette smoking is the most widespread example of drug dependence in the United States and in all the Islamic countries as well. The U.S. Surgeon General-s Office considers cigarette smoking to America-s worst drug addiction problem. Medical investigations show that cigarette smoking is a major factor in the development of many cases of cancer, heart trouble, chronic lung and respiratory disease and other ailments. Smoking causes more illness and death than all other drugs. Cigarette smoking in pregnant women results in deleterious health effects on their newborn children. These findings and the revelations in the Holy Qur-an clearly prohibit smoking of tobacco by Muslims. Hence smoking is unlawful in Islam.

Smoking and Health Effects

It is very well known that cigarette smoking is the most widespread example of drug dependence in the United States. A pamphlet released by the U.S. Surgeon General-s Office entitled -Why People Smoke Cigarettes- calls cigarette smoking America-s worst drug addiction problem. It involves addiction to the drug nicotine in tobacco and possible other tobacco substances.

An authoritative British report (1) stated that tobacco smoking is a form of drug dependence different from but no less strong than that of other addictive drugs—the most stable and well-adjusted person will, if he smokes at all, almost inevitably become dependent on the habit.

An Australian government report of 1977 called Drug Problems in Australia - An Intoxicated Society (2), says, -It is important to recognize that smoking is a form of drug dependence, but one with especially insidious characteristics.-

Like many other drugs, the chemicals in cigarette affect the chemistry of the brain and nervous system and create dependence and lead to compulsive use.

More than 56 million Americans and multiple scores of millions more in other nations, including Islamic nations (3) are hooked on cigarettes in the same way as caffeine addicts are hooked on caffeine. A major reason why sales continue at high levels despite widespread public knowledge about the health hazards is the addictive nature of cigarettes.

Most people start smoking just to conform to peer or social pressures. They get a feeling of -grown up.- They find smoking (nicotine) at first acts as a stimulant. Later they find they need to smoke as a tranquilizer. These smokers develop a level of tolerance and bodily adjustment to nicotine. If this level of nicotine is not maintained in their blood, they will experience uncomfortable physical-psychological dependence problems. These uncomfortable feelings are classic drug withdrawal symptoms. Addictive drugs are psychoactive which create brain and nervous system dependence and lead to compulsive use. Abrupt discontinuation leads to physiological and psychological distress. The withdrawal symptoms are headache, stomach discomfort, nervousness, irritability, sweating, change in heart and blood pressure and lower excretion of some hormones affecting the nervous system (4).

The former U.S. Surgeon General, C. Everett Coop, says, -Cigarette smoking is clearly identified as the chief preventable cause of death (340,000 deaths per year in U.S.A.). In our society it is a major factor in the development of many cases of cancer, heart trouble, chronic lung and respiratory diseases and other ailments. Smoking causes more illnesses and death than all the other drugs.-(5)

Smoking and Islam

In Islam cleanliness and hygiene are emphasized to the extent that it has been considered a part of Iman (faith). It is very well known that a smoker-s mouth is unclean and foul smelling -like a cigarette ash-tray.- In the Quran, God says:

-And forbid them what is bad.- - Surah Al--Araf, 7:157

-0 ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling are an abomination of Satan-s handiwork. Eschew such abominations that ye may prosper.- - Surah Al Ma-idah, 5:93

The word intoxicant has three meanings (6):

(1) To induce, especially the effect of ingested alcohol.

(2) To stimulate or excite.

(3) To poison.

The latter two meanings are very valid and applicable to nicotine.

Smoking is nothing but a form of slow suicide. The Qur-an says:

-And slay not the life which God hath forbidden...- - Surah, Al-Isra, 17:33

-And make not your own hands contribute to your destruction.- - Surah, Al-Baqara, 2:195

-Nor kill or destroy yourselves for verily God hath been to you most Merciful.- Surah, An-Nisa, 4:29

Prophet Mohammed has said:

-Nor be hurt or injure others.- It is scientifically proven that the exhaled smoke of the smoker is hazardous to non-smokers around him.

The amount of money a smoker spends on cigarette smoking in a period of 30 years is calculated to be Two Hundred Thousand Dollars or more. All this money is simply wasted (not including the money spent on smoker-s health care).

God says:

-But squander not your wealth in the manner of a spend thrift, verily spendthrifts are brothers of evils.- - Surah, Al-Isra, 17:26, 27

The body is polluted by smoking. Hence smokers cannot pray until they have cleansed themselves. According to the Qur-an:

-0 ye who believe! Draw not near unto prayer when you are drunken, till ye know that which ye utter, nor when you are polluted save when journeying upon the road, till you have bathed.- - Surah, An-Nisa, 4:43

The Christians consider the human body to be a sacred trust given to man by God because it contains the spirit breathed into it by God. Even the Qur-an says

-So, when I have made him and have breathed unto him of My spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him.- - Surah, Al-Hijr, 15:29.

Hence the physical body should not be polluted or injured or destroyed in any way by smoking or taking of alcohol or any type of habit-forming drugs.

Conclusion

For the foregoing reasons and for reasons considered elsewhere, smoking is Haram or unlawful in Islam, hence smoking should be discouraged and finally banned in all Islamic countries.

All smoking Muslims should give up this unhealthy and un-Islamic activity. The best way to give it up is to stop all smoking completely. Tapering off on the amount one smokes does not work for most people. It is not easy to quit suddenly, but it is presently the most successful way. There are many ways and techniques available for a serious minded person to give up smoking. For the Muslims who sincerely practice Islam and who submit themselves to the Will of God, this should not be a difficult task.

chew a candy instead and pretend its your favorite brand of cigars and increase your sex activeness
nicotine gum and nicotine patch. try again with new patch
slowly give it up try smoking one less a day and so on till you stop altogether
Try involving yourself in a support group like -Quit Smoking Programs...- .Good Luck!
go cold turkey.....worked for me...been cigarette free since dec -05
The WORST cravings are right after meals. Get a lot of gum and tick-tacks. Brush your teeth after meals. In fact, my reason for quitting was for my teeth... so I got a cleaning right after quitting and brushed three times a day (or more). This is important... you have to have a REASON to quit and you have to remind yourself what that reason is. If it-s to get healthy, then be a health nut... go to the gym or go swimming or biking. Good luck.
i did it with the nicotine gum and i also went to online nicotine anonymous meetings.... lot of friendly people and support

http://www.nicotine-anonymous.org/meetin…

Don-t worry. When you-re ready and you mean it you-ll do it. Patches don-t get it. YOU have to do it. You will if you mean it. Here-s the thing. When you do? You-ll absolutely HATE the smell of tobacco. Weird, huh?
Real, tried and true!!!! Zyban is your answer.
the way I did it, once I was ready to stop, I followed this motto -never take another puff again-.

Let-s you quit for a month and then somebody says oh one won-t kill ya. By taking even one drag you will relapse to your old habit because its an addiction like alcoholism.

remeber -NTAPA-
This might sound stupid to you but when I quit I always had a pack of cigarettes with me because I lived about 20 miles from town and would get really stressed just knowing I did not have them, but knowing I had them and did not have to smoke helped a lot. Good Luck don-t give up.
Here are 2 techniques I have seen to work (not personally, sorry, don-t smoke, but colleagues)

1. - the Nicorette inhalator. Its the same idea as a patch, but it seems to work better because the hand-to-mouth action is used. Often people find that it is the habit of smoking and NOT the nicotine which they are the most addicted to.

2. - Keep one cigarette in your packet. It is your last one. You may only smoke it at a time when you will never need it more.
This seems to work because there isn-t the panic feeling with the -oh crap I-ve run out- - more a -do I really want to smoke my last cigarette now? I-ll wait a bit.....-

Good luck :) You can do it!

Why can-t you say -fag- on Yahoo?
So what-s US slang for cigarette?
well, first of all, are you really really wanting to? only great will can cure such things. otherwise, you-ll just wind up doing it again. you can try not going near a liqour store(wait that-s hard). you could try having someone there to stop you if you suddenly get a cigarette out [mabye too hard (for the other person that is)]
well, i don-t smoke and my parents don-t smoke, so sorry, ican-t help as much.
i just bought the Nicorette inhaler for my husband last month. well, but not sure he can do it this time.

he has been trying to quit for many times, each time he almost made it, he smoke again.

each time he quit, the so-called -withdrawal symtoms- is terrible. usually the family members suffer. he becomes bad tempered, impatient, and worse is, he has symtoms like flu, running nose. which is quite uncomfortable.

try do somethng to distract u, rememer ur will power is the key point. try the inhaler, it seems the best among all so far.
once u quit for even a few days, u will find ur lip color lighten and is more pinkish...:-)

its easy to start but hard to stop, wish u good luck.

btw, i heard the gum tastes terrible.
If you are mentally ready, then just quit cold turkey, I tried all of the things out there. I tried wellbutrin, patches, gum, and the only way i was able to finally quit and stay off was cold turkey. Stay away from anything your body will associate with cigarettes. Such as fellow smokers, if you smoked in your car or after meals, etc... It took me being diagnosed with a heart problem and kidney cancer, before i finally kicked the habit. Worst part is that I could pick one up and restart right now, those bastards are addictive as hell. My heart has gotten much better, the cancer still looms, do it before its too late! I am only 34 years old and have major health issues from these stupid things. I have been quit for almost two years, but evertime i smell one, I still wanna drag! GOOD LUCK! I hope you can do it!
You can try cold turkey. Just quit, drink water in place of wanting a cig, and don-t subsitute smoking with eating.
Dont give in no matter what. Take up a new hobby too to take your mind off it. To avoid putting on weight, snack on fruit if you get -hungry- (from boredem). It will get easier with time.
It is also easier if you have a friend who wants to quit too, that way you can bounce off each other and give each other support. Or if you want to make it fun, have a $500 forfeit if you give in.... that will stop you from giving up!

Good luck!
Never give up!!! It can be done by ANYBODY.
Just do it. Don-t cut down, just stop. And if you ever feel like smoking again go and nurse someone dying of cancer.
Giving up smoking is easy i have done it dozens of times
seriously though try the nicotine gum {but talk to a doctor first]
if the patch gives you a rash i would hate to think what the gum might do if you have an allergic reaction
THE BEST OF LUCK I HOPE YOU SUCCEED
Substitute it with another healthy habit. It worked for me I started drinking dasani when i had urges and now im addicted to that!

what are the different ways to help the massive smoking population quit.... many people want to but there are many ways to stop but most don-t work
It-s there own choice in the end. No medicine and no people can stop them from smoking; they can only try to convince them that it is harmful. It is the smoker-s personal decision to quit smoking.

Hope that bit of info. helps!
Show them a picture of a deceased person who has died from cancer, make sure they resemble a close family member and convince them to stop or they will be next. One at a time my dear not the whole population because............... IM A SMOKER-IM A TOKER IM A ........................................…
Help them get addicted to something else, like yahoo answers.
trouble is the governmnet really don-t want to as they get a lot of money in tax from it... but I suggest sewing their lips together and tying their hands behind their back
Movies.
Movies.
oh and Movies.
yes, Hollywood is the problem, if they quit showing all them movies portraying smoking as glamorous then maybe the majority will stop smoking.
This is a very strong reason why so many find it appealing.
People dont know what to use of their precious time, so they spend it well, by smoking it away.
you only get one life.
thats my motto.
ugh...I was one of those die hard smokers...I was told by all family friends how horrible it was, wake up first things I would do is smoke, actually it controled my life!!! I had on several occasions tried to quit however just was too weak and didnt care enough about myself to succeed when I did try.And then it happened...You have cancer! It scared me like there was no tomorrow. The funny thing is I cannot believe I had ever smoked now...I look back and shake my head....On that note you cannot force anyone to quit, sadly you know they are going to get very very sick!Good luck!
Mike if you find out please put it on answeers..I dont smoke and never have but my wife does and is trying to quite for the 100th time..God Bless her she-s driveing me crazy here..Shes into her third week ,WOW Never knew my wife was such a_ _ _ _ _,...I-ve tryed everything really dont think there much we can do to help except try to give support..I tell her how good the house smells now that shes not smokeing, seems to make her happy.... GOOD LUCK... ROB
chew on gum. just keep yourself occupied. dont think smoking
they could come out with cigarettes called TUMORS and they-d come in a black pack and smokers would be lining up for -em
i dnt think so we can....coz so many educated people knowing the hazards of smoking they still smoke....i have seen some doc too who smoke now u tell me ppl belive tht they are the second God who cures thm n they do such kind of thing wht to say... no one can help thm they know n they do!!!!!

When you quit smoking how long does it take until you never ever need one again? -

When you quit smoking how long does it take until you never ever need one again? -

im quitting and need some will power and someting to look forward too while quitting
Some people never lose the cravings as such...I-m coming up to a year and still would like one at times. I keep gum handy.

The best thing you can do is get a clear container and put your daily cigarette money in there every morning and watch it build up....I-ve got £700 in there, i-ve dipped into it for christmas and to buy wooden flooring that I just couldnt afford before....that and the gum and keeping busy on here are what have kept me nicotine free. I joined Q-A on the day I quit to keep me occupied so I do owe some of my success to this place
From personal experience - i found it easy - until the triggers came along. When i am drinking alcohol, when my spuse lost her will power etc.
There is a physical withdrawal from nicotine but in my, and many other peoples opinion, it is minute.

Let me give you a scenario that i wish someone had given me-

It-s your first ciggy - it gives you a buzz - you have another one the next day - and so on. But this is pre 2nd world war - nobody knows that nicotine is addictive - so you don-t crave.

Nowadays you have heard that cigs are addictive- so you know that you will nedd one two or three hours after your last one - so you crave.

There are countless stories of people who have given up heroin - just by a change of lifestyle (Vietnam vets) and never craved because they were outwith the situation they took heroin.

PS
I speak to heroin addicts all the time (in my job) and they tell me (after i-ve asked obviously) that heroin is easier to kick than cigs.

In my opinion Cigs is easy - the physical withdrawal is gone after 72hrs. Just ride it out and never think of a fag again.
I quit smoking a year ago, and I cant honestly say the feeling 100% goes away. For the most part it does, but there are certain times when I feel like if one was in reach, id have one.

I noticed for me, after 2 weeks, I started to feel better (as in headaches and irritability), and then after a month, I didnt feel like I needed one at all times. I kinda stopped thinking about it so much. But after that, theres little things that set it off. Like, when my husband and I go out and have a drink, I want one. It used to be when i was driving I really wanted one, but that was more of a habit of sitting the car having something to do, than the smoking itself. I think its kinda the same when my husband and I go out drinkning. The only nice thing is, although it sounds nice, and for a moment I may want one, I can tell myself no, and the urge goes away within a minute.

Keep up the hard work. Its soooo worth it. And believe me, things get easier as the weeks go on!
Never. You-ll always -need- one at time-s of intense stress. The key is willpower. Forget the motivation crap, it will become meaningless. You need to be determined I dont -need- to do this, I -want- to do it. I am choosing a healthier me. I dont -want- to smoke. Use nicorettes, they-ll make u hate smoke later. The problem is u-ll get addicted to them like me and Obama.
Hehe ,i dont want to be a killjoy here but u will have days even in 5 years time when u fancy a ciggarette

U are a addict and always will be ,but remember every time you have that craving and beat it and sit back and take a deep breath then you will give yourself a little bit more chance to not end up on some breathing apperatus wheezing and unable to breathe properly and you shall feel better about youself

stay strong
People who Smoke Can-t Tell how bad they Smell, So the longer you keep off the Ciggys the sooner you be Rid of that Smell, and enjoy what Food tastes like, Your Cloths , Hair and every thing you touch will be Fresher,So Good Luck
Although smokers who have given up can almost be considered as smokers who are currently not smoking, after 2 years the odds against restarting are in your favour.
your cravings will subside but throughout ya life you will have moment where you will think -god i need a ciggy- lol cant say the F word for ciggy on here, so american lol
I wish I knew because I-m always quitting but never stay the course. If you manage it please let us all know, and good luck.
Well to be honest, my grandad quit 25 years ago, and he says he still gets cravings once in a while
That would vary on the strength of your addiction.
Your body craves nicotine for just 48 hours. You wanting one will last for the rest of your life. FACT!! Good luck!!
5 min
good luck to you that-s all I can say

will power....

nothing to it.....
Try ur level best and mail me after u quit.Even i want to try....
-smoke until your last day of work or school, and then begin quitting on the weekend (or whatever days you have off).
-indulge in other things you like, to the point of foolishness if you feel like it, during the first few days.
-sleep a lot and watch a lot of TV.
-avoid situations that frustrate you – you won-t deal with frustration very well.
-avoid any place where people will be smoking.
-call people whom you know well enough to impose upon and complain to them about how lousy you feel.
-keep a lot of your favorite non-alcoholic drinks on hand. --You will probably feel very thirsty, you-ll want to replace the oral gratification of cigarettes with something, and drinking fluids helps to flush the nicotine out of your system faster.
-have something to do with your hands and/or your mouth. If you like chewing gum, chew it, if you like ripping apart action figures, do so.
-remember that you-re one cigarette away from failure.
the way i quit smoking was i started using snuf. its a very fine form of tobacco that you snort
The truth that really works is to do it slowly,
each day use less and less until you can go a day with out them, then try two days and so on. Cold turkey is the hardest to do. Good luck...
catch my flu or wait till you get it - you will never want to smoke again. The amount of phlegm and mucus I am producing AND it hurts to cough so much so that i am kind of stuck. try that.
Use the patch. It works. Find a non-tobacco replacement for putting something in your mouth when you get the craving: gum, pretzel, cookie, whatever.

Be prepared to suffer a little withdrawal so you-re not frustrated by it when it happens. Your entire body is going to hurt and your brain is going to insist that the only way to feel better is to smoke. This is where your will power comes into play. Think of all the reasons to quit: Your health, your friends, your family, how embarrassing it is to be a smoker these days, how good you-re going to feel once you-ve quit. It-s very, very hard but so worth it.

I-ve never smoked, but I had other addictions to quit and it was the hardest, most painful experience. All I can say is congratulation on making the decision. Now be prepared to see it through.

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

GOOD LUCK!
Do what you can...chew gum instead of smoke, find a stress reliever (throw a tennis ball at a wall, etc.), do what you want when you get a craving.
I think the only way to quit is to do it -Cold Turkey- Because I believe no matter what you take to try to quit you have to truely want to quit or nothing will work. I quit for 8 mo.
stay off it as long as you can and if you do give in look at it objectively and ask yourself whether it is really worth all the trouble
call the QUIT help line..if in Australia
Bill Hicks said It best when he said
-I-m planning on quitting gradually. First I-ll lose one lung, then a few years later I-ll lose the other-

In all seriousness though, if you dont already, take up excercising, quit puffing, and then feel how much easier it is when you dont smoke. The difference is massive.
Stop doing it. Think about all the negative effects of it.
Yellow teeth, bad breath, yellow nails, and dry and unhealthy looks... and of course there-s the Lung Cancer.
get the patch on, throw away all your smoking materials, and take a half hour walk each and every time you really want a smoke, that way you will quit and not gain weight.
Don;t forget to reward yourself for each week, for the 1st 2 months. manicures, cd-s, car detailing, stuff like that.
but lots of gum and patches. Give all your remaining cigarettes and your cash to a close friend. Work on something all consumng (like a brady bunch marathon) for a week. After a week the cravings should be tollerable.
stop buying them a s s h o l e!!
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

How long/how many times did it take you to quit smoking? -

if you dont smoke, save your time, no preaching please....
one time, i used something called will power. You have the power to control your hands and mouth, use that power to fullest and you will feel more and more in control.
1. I was chain smoker for 14 years three packs a day.
2. it took just an evening deciding to quit. and its all about four years i haven-t smoked a puff.
3. Thus only will to do so.
Just once. After I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior I made a promise to God that I would not touch another cigarette and I asked Him to help me. Every time I wanted one I would remember my promise to God and would stay away from them.
I-ve been trying to quit for over a year now due to health problems but I just can-t . I quit on 3 previous occasions, no problems. But then again I wasn-t quitting for myself, I was pregnant each time I quit. I was using the Nicoderm Patch and it worked good but my craving for nicotine was stronger.
I quit cold turkey 10-1-04. I got divorced, and got the house--it was keep smoking, or pay the mortgage. $$$ is a good motivator. Good luck!

BTW--I smoked 2 packs of Kools every day for 27 years. If you are really determined, you can do it!
i-m on my third try. my longest quit was 18 months. it-s been a week for this time. going batty! i-ve been a smoker for 16 years.
i snoaked for 35 yrs it only took one time for me i used the patch for 12 weeks but it helped a lot i have been smoke free almost 2 yrs in Nov

I smoked for 20 years 2 packs a day and am currently taking chantix..it has been over a week since my last smoke and I dont even crave them. There are side effects..dreams are very vivid but I dont mind that.

I tried the patch, gum and numerous other things and always started back again within a few days. I was anxious and difficult to get along with on these things.

I think Chantix is amazing I cannot believe how easy this is with this med

Good Luck
she-s right. I-ve been taking chantix and Its been 4 weeks and 1 day since my last cigg. The side effects can be a little annoying especially the loss of sleep and vivid dreams, but chantix does work great
I quit on the patch. Chantix is not very effective in the long run. Do some research Chantix may cause suicidal behavior as well as eratic behavior and very few people who quit on it are still non-smokers after two years.
I used chantix to quit. I smoked for 20 yrs. and have been quit since last May. It worked well for me, but you have to get it in your head that you -WANT- to quit! I know a few other people who used Chantix and had every excuse in the world why it didn-t work.
if you have children just belive that you have to do this to be able to see you kids grandson or daughter .
i used nicotinell patch. it worked for me. quit smoking was easier as i initially thought. After 6 weeks i stopped with the patch as well and i had almost no problems. first 3 weeks are difficult but very doable. I had in my head that if i dont quit now i will never quit. and that helped, you need a good reason to quit then it is easy really.
I finally did it cold turkey. I tried and tried, and then I just said forget it. I also prayed to St. Anthony. But, then I just said, I-m going to smoke the rest of my life, because i love it, and so eff it, I will never try to quit again. And I meant it 100%. Then a few days or a week later, I couldn-t sleep, around 2am I got up said, -This is IT!!!- tossed them out and fell asleep. I have no idea why it went that way, but it was sort of odd.

I did end up gaining a few pounds, but I increased mysports playing and now look better than ever. I can breathe better, my hair smells fantastic, my teeth are white, and I HATE the smell of smoke now. Cannot stand it at all.
I quit smoking 7 yeas ago.
the only thing that works is cold-turkey.
a few things you-ll need to know.
1. once you quit you can never have a cigarette again, not even after 10 years. if you do, you will end up buying a pack the next day.
2. you have to really want to quit. that means total commitment.
3. you-ll be nervous and irritable for the first couple of weeks. you will probably gain some weight from nervous eating. working out is a good alternative for that stress relief.
4. keep your mouth busy. use chewing gum, tooth picks, straws, anything, just keep your mouth busy.
5. believe it or not, the addiction is 90% mental. after the first week or 2, your body is over it. the rest is in your mind. be strong.
6. after being clean for a few weeks, you-ll remember what food really tastes like, what a lungful of fresh air really feels like, what its like to run up a flight of stairs and not have to catch your breath.

good luck
just stop, IT WILL KILL YOU
Cut off your hands. Hard to smoke if you can-t hold a cigarette or lighter, hopefully your friends won-t do it for you.

I-ve had good luck quitting in the past with the gum. I enjoy smoking though so I go back after 6 months or so.
I just stopped after 40 years!!! how? I just stopped, it-s 5 weeks now and I don-t want to go back to being the smelly, coughing person I was, even my social life has improved.
It-s not easy but it is really worth it.
Chantix if you can afford it or if your insurance pays for it. Best way is to really really want to quit. You will then have enough determination that whatever program you use to quit will work. Best of luck to you.
a great many people I know have been having good success with Chantix. Ask your doctor about it.
There is no quick way or instrument what it really takes is your willpower, if you are willing to stop and think of all those health risks you are effecting your body with. I mean come on - Heart disease, stroke (can happen at any age, they happen in the brain and you can either be paralysed, not in every case or die), scare tactics here, hope you are reading this and thinking OH MY GOD!.

And induviduals who smoke are 10x more likely to suffer CHD and strokes/H.Attacks.

You can stop smoking aslong as you put your mind to it.

Helpfull tips are:

when you are having a craving, instead of heading to open that cigarette packet, go and get an apple or even go and take some exercise and this diminishes your appetite.

Did you know that smoking is a very powerful brain addiction, just like IDU-s.

Hope this helps, jen. Let me know your outcome
Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.
Good luck...when I got pregnant I told my husband he won-t be allowed near the baby if he is still smoking. He quit cold turkey. Maybe you could just think of something you love very very much.....you will lose it if you don-t stop smoking.

well i want to quit smoking, but its hard cause i live with my boyfriend who smokes, and he wont quit and its just to hard to be around a smoker and not smoke. I have smoked more since being with him too..

how do i get him to quit so i can?
Write a list of the reasons why you want to stop, and keep them with you. Refer to them when tempted to light up. You may wish to read a separate leaflet in this series called -Smoking - The Facts-. This gives the reasons why smoking is so harmful and lists the benefits of stopping.

Set a date for stopping, and stop completely. (Some people prefer the idea of cutting down gradually. However, research has shown that if you smoke less cigarettes than usual, you are likely to smoke more of each cigarette, and nicotine levels remain nearly the same. Therefore, it is usually best to stop once and for all from a set date.)

Tell everyone that you are giving up smoking. Friends and family often give support and may help you. Smoking by others in the household makes giving up harder. If appropriate, try to get other household members who smoke, or friends who smoke, to stop smoking at the same time. A -team- effort may be easier than going it alone.

Get rid of ashtrays, lighters, and all cigarettes.

Be prepared for some withdrawal symptoms. When you stop smoking, you are likely to get symptoms which may include: nausea (feeling sick), headaches, anxiety, irritability, craving, and just feeling awful. These symptoms are caused by the lack of nicotine that your body has been used to. They tend to peak after 12-24 hours, and then gradually ease over 2-4 weeks.

Anticipate a cough. It is normal for a -smokers cough- to get worse when you stop smoking (as the airways -come back to life-). Many people say that this makes them feel worse for a while after stopping smoking and makes them tempted to restart smoking. Resist this temptation! The cough usually gradually eases.

Be aware of situations in which you are most likely to want to smoke. In particular, drinking alcohol is often associated with failing in an attempt to stop smoking. You should consider not drinking much alcohol in the first few weeks after stopping smoking. Try changing your routine for the first few weeks. For example, don-t go to the pub for a while if that is a tempting place to smoke and drink alcohol. Also, if drinking tea and coffee are difficult times, try drinking mainly fruit juice and plenty of water instead.

Take one day at a time. Mark off each successful day on a calendar. Look at it when you feel tempted to smoke, and tell yourself that you don-t want to start all over again.

Be positive. You can tell people that you don-t smoke. You will smell better. After a few weeks you should feel better, taste your food more, and cough less. You will have more money. Perhaps put away the money you would have spent on cigarettes for treats.

Food. Some people worry about gaining weight when they give up smoking as the appetite may improve. Anticipate an increase in appetite, and try not to increase fatty or sugary foods as snacks. Try sugar-free gum and fruit instead.

Don-t despair if you fail. Examine the reasons why you felt it was more difficult at that particular time. It will make you stronger next time. On average, people who eventually stop smoking have made 3 or 4 previous attempts.

Stop Smoking Clinics are available on the NHS. They have a good success in helping people to stop smoking. Your doctor may refer you to one if you are keen to stop smoking but are finding it difficult to do so.

Various medicines can increase your chance of quitting. These include Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) which comes as gums, sprays, patches, tablets, lozenges, and inhalers. You can buy NRT without a prescription. Also, medicines called bupropion (trade name -Zyban-) and varenicline (trade name -Champix) can help. These are available on prescription. See separate leaflets called -Smoking - Nicotine Replacement Therapy-, -Smoking - Helping to Stop with Bupropion- and -Smoking - Helping to Stop with Varenicline-.

Can you try nicotine gum or nicotine patch? Its cheaper. Add Wellbutrin and it is more effective. A book that is absolutely fantastic and I think probably more effective than psychotherapy is called
You Can Quit Smoking Even If You Dont Want To
by
David Jones
You can find it in Amazon-s used books.
You can use all of these while going to psychotherapy. I think anyone can benefit from that, even the most -normal- of us.
I am a receptionist for a Dr who does acupuncture to help patients stop smoking and 1 guy went from 1 pack a day down to 3 a day in 8 days. he had been a smoker for 35yrs, he says he doesn-t have the desire anymore It is a great way to help you succeed in the need or desire to quit as you also need to want to quit for it to completely work.
It may help, but by and large therapy isn-t effective alone. You need to have the desire to quit, which you say you have. You also have to modify your behavior to do different things when you were used to lighting up. Like if you get out of bed in the morning grab some coffee and sit down and light up, change up your routine. Niccotine patches help, so does the drug Wellbutrin. Many states have supportive quit smoking hotlines, and The American Lung Association has a wealth of info for people who want to kick the habit. Best of luck. I too would like to kick the habit, and am working on it myself. That reminds me, find a support network, that helps too.
I know one person (my father) who was shown what the lungs of a lifetime(smoker look like at a medical school, (removed from a cadaver)and he quit cold right then. Imagine a balloon filled with motor oil and blood, you get the picture?

If you quit smoking when you are still young,
then it will be better for your body.

When you stop at a young age and never smoke again,
then your body still has alot of time to heal.
The cigarette companies spread that lie and it continues. The tissues in your lungs do not.. REPEAT DO NOT repair themselves.
no!!
Yes. Quitting will save you in the end.

GOOD LUCK!
Ya tell them the dangers and the fact you lose over a week of your life per cigar, and second hand smoke (smoke from cigar) is more dealy and toxic that the cigar it self, also if they refuse to quit there stupid habit tell them to smoke outside.
give em a break - they probably do not have much time left due to the build up in their lungs
If they-re your grandparents then they probably haven-t got long to go so leave them to it. If they haven-t made the choices they have made then you wouldn-t be here now. Or.. you could just try coughing every time they light up. That sometimes works.
Explain to them that it-s a very deadly situation and express your feelings to them and try to talk to them that you hate it when they smoke!
u shud ask a skool health teacher to borrow a video about smoking and wat it can do to you. it might help .i also believe u can get a video from blockbusters or off the internet. good luck!
You can ask if they would smoke outside or in a designated room or area. Let them know how much this really bothers you.

If its a health concern, you can try to discuss it with them and encourage them to quit, but they will have to make the decision to quit on their own.

I quit smoking, is blood in nasal cavity normal? -

I was a smoker for 9 years. I-m 22 now. It-s been a month since i-ve had a cigarette. I blew my nose and a string of blood came out. Is this normal?
Why do you think this is associated with smoking?

If it was attached to mucus, you should be fine.

However, if this continues to occur, you should see your doctor as you may have an infection or even lung cancer.
Nothing to worry about... just use some nasal saline to heal up the area that bled.
If you have recurrent bleeds that don-t clot, then youd have to see a doc. Otherwise, they-re just going to tell you to use the nasal saline and if that fails, stick some petroleum jelly on a qtip and dab a little in the side that bleeds.

ok im not like those quitters that need to quit i did marijuana 6 times in my life and it was like once a month now i permanently quit is my brain gonna be ok....plz dont write stupid **** if u do yur ****** seriously
Yes, your brain should be fine
I-m sorry but marijuana didn-t make you stupid.

In fact, marijuana doesn-t kill brain cells.

It-s time for z-man the mythbuster to clear things up for you.

The only scientific study to support the fact that marijuana kills brain cells was done in the 70-s.
What they did was they strapped gas masks to the faces of monkeys and pumped marijuana smoke into their lungs for over 5 minutes, without any oxygen. The monkeys obviously soon passed out and suffered brain damage, this damage had nothing to do with the smoke, but the lack of oxygen to the brain.

And another myth i-ll clear up while i-m here.

Marijuana isn-t physically addictive. Sure some would call it -psychologically addictive- but if you-re to weak of a person to stop doing something that doesn-t have a dependency than you need some ******* help in other aspects of your life.

It has been proven that substances like Caffeine, not only have a higher toxicity level than marijuana but are more physically dependent. In other words, it-ll be harder to stop drinkin your morning coffee than it will be to stop tokin up.

Although i do think people who are not educated about marijuana shouldn-t smoke it, so you should stop immediately.
Yes, it would help for sure. If not normal it will be atleast a lot lower.
It takes a few months for the THC to get out of your system, after having done it only six times I doubt you-ll notice any difference once it-s all gone. If you keep doing it, though, the risk of permanent brain damage and psychosis will continue to increase.
Will my brain be fine/returned to normal if i quit smoking marijuana for about 2 months now? -
