How can i Quit smoking? -

hi khamid M

I smoked for over 40 years, have now been quit for over 5 years..what worked for me was getting involved in a support group... I am a member of Nicotine anonymous.. I attend meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer!! you are welcome to attend meetings while still smoking..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Maybe try:

-Cigana is a healthier alternative to smoking. While regular cigarettes contain tobacco and 4000+ carcinogens, Cigana contains just nicotine. Cigana looks and feels like a regular cigarette, provides the nicotine that smokers crave, without the harmful, cancer-causing toxins, ashes, smells or second hand smoke.-
My spouse and I used Chantix. It-s a Rx that you must get from your Doctor. It worked, and we have been smoke free for almost three years. Combined we smoked for approx. 60 years. We weren-t cross with each other or anyone else. It Worked!
Start taking hard drugs like heroin or crystal meth you will then have a heavy addiction to them and will not care about smoking

I am trying to quit smoking Please Help!? -

I-ve been smoking on and off for about 12 years now. I-m tierd of what smoking is doing to me. I need some advice on how you may have kicked the habit. I-ve tried patches the irritate my skin, I-ve tried the quit now line (didn-t work). I-ve tried cold turkey only to go back and start again. Please Help.
Listen, you need a lot of will power to just stop smoking. The other method is to replace smoking with a positive activity, but you have to be so into the activity, so you can forget about smoking forever. In most cases that not an effective strategy. I found out that there is a smoker-s card that reduced the amount of toxins that cigarettes emit. All you have to do is to purchase the card, place it onto the cigarette pack and it will help you gradually quit smoking. Just Google HuashenUSA and there should be more information about it.
Replace your smoking habit with another, positive habit.
I think it is good that you are thinking of quitting after 6 months,,,, I wish you all the best. Imagine the possibilities of not smoking. You get to save lots of money and your health.. Imagine the money you put aside especially if you are a pack-a-day smoker... you can pay installments for a very decent second hand car.

I have not smoked for 3 days now and dont have the urge to either. Its all about mind control.
well i know how you feel. asked god to help you. i smoke once at 13. and i quit.
If you don-t buy cigarettes it-s hard to smoke. When you quit smoking you have to change your routine. Example if you wake up and have coffee - a cigarette then you can still have coffee just have a slice of toast with it. When you are done. Start doing dishes- It is hard to smoke when your-e hands are in water.
Basically it is mind over matter by retraining your thinking that I have to keep busy and before you know it you can forget about the cigarette. I know you are thinking I have to have one- Well have one then wait a longer period until you have another and so on. SJ
Well...My Aunt had been smoking for like 12 year too!! BUt she took out her cigerate box and replaced it with a rasion box and every time she went for a cigerete she would eat a rasion but she always kept 1 pack in case she realy realy needed it!
Maybe try smoking something non-addictive to replace your habit...then eventually just drop the non-addictive habit.
I highly recommend this book: -Allen Carr-s Easy Way To Stop Smoking-

He clearly differentiates the physical withdrawal symptoms from the psychological ones. The physical withdrawal is actually only a feeling of mild emptiness, somewhat like hunger. The real challenge is dealing with the psychological aspects of going without the cigarette. But once this part of quitting is clearly understood, it becomes much easier, and can even be enjoyable as he says. The author is an ex smoker himself who has a very clear understanding of the truth about smoking, and how to quit. And he has a very rational approach, no unnecessary scare tactics. His method is said to have helped millions quit.

Best of luck.

How do I help my dad quit smoking? -

he has to cold turkey it! and is always saying that he will die before he-s 56 and he-s 50. He has ben smoking since age 13 or 14
I quit smoking myself last June at age 50 also. I used Chantix and tapered off after a month and finally quit for good. Just be supportive of him. Keep in mind that withdrawals will make him very grouchy at times and he might seem to snap at people for no reason. Don-t take it personally. Try to find him something to replace cigarettes. He-ll need something to do with his hands. Some people use gum or candy. I used pretzel sticks. Don-t be too hard on him if he slips up. Quitting smoking was one of the hardest things I-ve ever done.

Ive quit smoking cold turkey and am having a lot of anxiety!!!! Anyone with some veiwpoints to stick with it? -

Ive quit smoking cold turkey and am having a lot of anxiety!!!! Anyone with some veiwpoints to stick with it? -

im really trying to turn my life around one step at a time I recently quit smoking and am one smell away from falling back.... I dont want to lapse but I-ve been stressed a lot lately and this is adding to my frustration.... How to quit... stick with it and let go for good!!!!
Cold turkey makes a wonderful sandwich!!! When you feel the anxiety start to build, take a walk, a steamy shower and sing to your heart-s delight, even have a good cry if you feel it!

You can do many small things to sooth anxiety that have nothing to do with smoking...how about: Walk to the store and buy a magazine about diet, exercise, or healthy interesting hobbies. You can use the money you didn-t spend on butts for the week!!!

Good luck, and keep it going!!!
Think of how difficult it was when you first quit. Remember that it is easier now (no matter how difficult it is)...it-s still easier than those first couple of days. Remember that you are stronger than that cigarette that had you tethered for so long.

Go out to a place where you can-t smoke. Stay there until the urge goes away...mall, library, movie theater.

Good luck!
Withdraw off of opiates for just one hour and you will realize how easy it is to quit smoking. Be glad it doesn-t hit you physically to where you cannot move, puking, crapping your brains out and sweating. Plus mind games after that.

Drink some tea, buy Valerian Root.
I would recommend going to a doctor and telling him you-re trying to quit smoking and having anxiety. Sometimes they put people on medication before the stop so it-s not so bad. I tried to quit cold turkey and had massive mood swings so I started back. SO - my next plan of action is to go to the doc and follow the instructions I just gave you.

I quit smoking and all I do is eat Little Debbies! HELP!? -

LOL! For real! I-ve eaten two boxes within the last few days! And I-m 30 and don-t need to be doing this... maybe if I was 16 it would be ok. Should I get some suckers or chewing gum or something? Anyone else have this problem? I-ve heard people say, -I quit smoking and gained a lot of weight,- and now I know what they were talking about!
The only thing that worked for me was cardio exercise. That took my urge to smoke and eat away. Good luck though.
Thats really bad for you, all the trans fat.You should find an activty that interests you or chew sugarfree gum or something.

How do i quit smoking pot...? -

How do i quit smoking pot...? -

I smoke pot. I want to stop because when i smoke i get really paranoid and miss out on good times with freinds and family. Smoking pot gives me kinda a bond with the people i do it with and when i do it with them i fell accepted and a part of the group. But part of me knows that this bond is just fake and has no real deep meaning. Instead of taking the time and creating real deep meaningful freindships its easier to all bond on smoking bud. I really want to quit because i have now realized that it dosent make me cool and if people only accept me cause i smoke then there not good freinds. But even thou i realize this i still get that feeling and have a really hard time overcoming it. The problem is i cant stop bcause deep down i have this feeling that if i dont ppl wont accept me even thou i know they probably still will. How do i quit and get over thinking it makes me look cool and quit taking the easy road to social contact by smoking. I really want to quit. Any suggestions? thnx.
Just take things one day at a time. Get some friends who dont- do pot. And tell your other friends that the herb doesn-t interest you anymore. Period.
I had the hardest time quitting. The headaches kicked my butt for what felt like forever.

But, after maybe a week or two (I was an everyday smoker) I began to feel a huge difference. More enrgy, felt better altogether. The fact that you express a desire to quit is a big first step. One key thing to remember: you are going to have to get a different set of -friends-...the people you smoke with will, at first, always pressure you into doing it. After a while, they-ll begin to respect the fact that you are serious about it, and you may be able to encourage them to slow down and eventually stop. No, it-s not an overnight process. Yes, you will backslide and do it again. I can say that with absolute honesty because it is a pattern, you have a -ritual,- hangin- out and gettin- high with your friends.

You-ll have to find something to occupy your time, take your mind off of it. Read, write, outdoor hobby, something, anything else.

I wanted better life for me. I saw that the people I smoked with (and me) were all doing the same thing over and over...nothing. I wanted to do something with myself and my life.

Someone is going to say that you can be functional and a smoker, but look at what you typed in your question...Are you functioning...are you LIVING... as long as you are getting high?

If people don-t accept you as a non-smoker, are those really people whose acceptance you want anyway? Seriously. You are a whole entire person with so much more to offer than passing a joint/blunt/bong.
Maybe go out and do things that are fun and you would normally do sober like Golf I hear is a good past time
Or tennis, swimming, running, rock climbing, making Goals for yourself and focus on working out, eating right and drinking A lot of water because that will help you detox and taking vitamins too and staying focused on work and keeping your body and mind clean by staying sober.
I-m going through the same thing as you because I know I don-t want to smoke weed because It-s killing me Literally, I don-t want to get cancer. And friends come and go, So just focusing on what your goals and Life should be without weed.

So Good Luck and you should join 43things.com it-s a really good website where you make 43 goals for yourself and then mark them off on your list once you-ve done them, and you can make a goal to quit smoking weed and people will help you out too,
So check it out I highly recommend that website. ?
1. stop buying it
2. get away from all the friends you have that smoke it, at least for a while.
3. you are feeling like that because you really don-t know the real you because you are high too much.
4. a psychiatrist wouldn-t help because you are self medicating and some medications could effect you badly if you do drugs while on them

Did Chantex help you to quit smoking cigarettes?? -

I-ve heard good and bad stories about it.
What was your experience?

-I might have spelled it wrong
Yeah, it was great. (It-s spelled Chantix, BTW). I used it for about six months, twice the normal course. Didn-t quite get me nicotine free in that time, but it got my habit down to the point where I was able to quite successfully a few months later.

It seems in studies to be the most effective stop smoking med.

Negative effects: vivid dreams the whole time I was taking it, and I-d get queasy after I took the pill and had to take medicine for heartburn. It also removed some of my normal inhibitions, forex I-d see something fattening in the supermarket and just buy it. Also, don-t take it if you-ve ever been sucidal or suffered from clinical depression, because it can trigger suicidal ideation in some people. If that happens to you, stop and call your doctor right away. You can probably take Wellbutrin instead.

My doctor tells me he doesn-t prescribe it anymore because of the risks, but I-d say that for most people the risks of Chantix are much lower than the risks of continuing to smoke.
No i had a stroke, which temporarily, (ABOUT SIX WEEKS0, disabled my taste buds, and squelched all my appetites. i automatically lostthe creving for the taste, and the stgroke made any nicotine addiction pale into insignificance.

Luckily for me, it was a stroke of the aschemic variety brought on by nicotine poisoning, lack of oxygen, due to smoking, and physical and mental stress, causedby my participation in a local gang war.

i am now fine, and am in fact in better health, than before the stroke, all due to stopping ciggarettes.

I also used the money saved by stopping cigarettes, fence my property, buy a car, buy insurance, paint my house, and a numerous other things, in the twelve years since i quit smoking.
I have been takin this medication for a couple of days, and it does seem to be working. I have also heard some things about it that scared me however I tried it and it has not given me bad dreams or made me suicidal. You have to be careful though, if you feel depressed or feel like hurting yourself, quit taking it and seek help because alot of people have commited suicide on this drug!!!

Does anyone know of something that really works to quit smoking? -

I tried Wellbutrin, but it made me feel shaky. I dont think I can do it cold turkey. I have anxiety and depression, so its gonna be hard to stop.
You have to be very serious about quitting. Dedication to the cause and really putting your mind to the task. There are products that can help. Try and herbal supplement like Crave-Rx. Very safe and effective. Good Luck !
EXERCISE
and drink more water

BEST WAY
Maybe this is not the right time to stop especially while you are depressed.

I think the thing that helps smokers stop best is when the smoker really....and I mean REALLY....WANTS to stop.

Have a think.
Its so easy to quit if you really want to its all in your head and how well you control your body and mind good luck.
WILL POWER, YOU HAVE TO WANT TO DO IT, I QUIT 4 YEARS AGO COLD TURKEY AND I-M HEALTHIER FOR IT
I wanted to stop smoking after running for the bus one day and nearly died choking, trying to catch my breath. I listened to a hypnotist on a radio program who kept repeating, that-s your last cigarette, quit now! Know what, I have never smoked again. There were trying times, but I never picked up another cigarette.
If you want to . You can do it. Go for it! The power is in your hands!! Good luck.
you will only stop if the -you- wants to stop..,whatever you will try to quit,if the you don-t really want it,it will not happen.
want it and make it happen..
replacing a smoking habit with some sort of drug,no good either, then you will dependent on the drug.
Smoking cessation is not something you achieve in a day. It involves setting long term goals with smaller achievable short-term goals which could motivate you. Have you tried the nicotine patch? or the nicotine gum? Consider these for a start. I do not know your level of -addiction- to nicotine. Consider also setting a goal of quitting in say 6 month or 1 year from now. Also avoid social situations that encourage you to smoke such as a party where others smoke and drink. What about your close friends? Do they smoke and/or drink? Smoking starts as a social/peer influence.
WILL POWER!

What is the best and most Natural way to quit smoking? -

I was wondering if there is a bunch of natural herbs I could take together that would help me quit smoking cigarettes.
Hello Robb,

My wife smoked for over 10 years and when she found out that she was pregnant with our now newborn 3 months old daughter, she had promised me that if I found a good solution for quitting, she will try her best to kick the habit.

Well in my spare time I started researching online for quit smoking programs, meanwhile she was trying out patches and gums that you can buy at grocery stores and adventually they would not work for her.

After about a week of researching I had stumbled over a website that really impressed me on what they had to offer and that they actually say that they can almost guarantee your success, and most importantly that you can try it out for free.

The company has been around for over 20 years now and they have helped over a million smokers quit since and their kit has everything that you possibly need to help you quit smoking, I thought WoW that is impressive.

I went ahead and ordered the free trial for my wife (only paid for shipping) and she has quit smoking in just two weeks and she doesn-t want to hear about or smell another cigarette again in her life :)

Now it is up to you, but since my wife has quit, I was so happy about her success, so much so that I had built a small review site of the product to also help other people quit, you can check it out at;
http://endthehabitnow.com
if you want to find out more.

P.S. Also available for Canada.

Thanks for reading my short story, I hope it helps, good luck and stay healthy.
Educate yourself thoroughly on the way your lungs work, and develop a sense of appreciation for you body. Indulge in knowledge about the negative effects of smoking. Find someone to help you quit. A friend can go miles when old habits need to be broke.
i tried the patch, the gum, and a lot of negative feedback from my mom... but nothing worked. It wasn-t until I had three terms of anatomy that I fully realized the damage I was doing to my body and developed the motivation to quit for good. After 6 year of smoking, I-ve been smoke free for almost a year now. Two months to go!
I recommend you to read the book from Allen Carr -Allen Carr-s easy way to stop smoking- from the first to the last page.
Than you decide a date, when you will become a nonsmoker (I set a date two weeks from the time, I decided to quit smoking).
Smoke all you want in that time, but prepare your mind, that you only will be smoking until that date. Get to Allen Carr-s Web page (www.allen-carr.at) and have them send you supportive letters for one week (it-s free). There is nothing other than your mind, that can help you stop smoking. And don-t forget! Your mind is powerful. You just have to set it right.
There are no herbs, no gums, nothing that can make it easier for you. With nicotine gums and parches, all you do is kidding yourself. What you want is, to get the nicotine OUT OF YOUR BODY, not triggering it with more. That-s all just big money making.
Also you have to be very clear with yourself, that from that set date on, you never again will be smoking any cigarette. You have to promise this to yourself very seriously.
From the moment you have stopped, enjoy the sensation that your breathing is becoming better, you smell better and your ability to test and smell will improve.
I did it and I smoked for 38 years. I-m a very happy Non-smoker now. Good luck and strength! Only the first few days are somewhat hard. YOU CAN DO IT!!
Just do it!!
just throw them out. and go threw the withdrawal...no easy task.

those things will kill you. think of having throat cancer, or having a lung removed, or omg, how much smokers stink...yuk. and, the money u have to spend for this discusting habit.

throw them out!!!!
the most natural and best way is to just not do it. taking pills, putting on patches, or chewing gum are not -natural-. i quit smoking many times with pills, patches, -herbal- remedies, ect with no success. once i decided that cigarettes were absolutely repulsive and making me sick, i had no trouble quitting. it has been a year and 6 months and i must say it is wonderful to never be worried about when and how i-m going to get my next nicotine fix.
the best way to stop doing something:
JUST STOP IT
I went cold turkey after about 8 trials with other things (hypnosis.pills etc.) I have heard the new drug chandrix or something works great. Ask your Dr. about it and GL...I have been smoke free for about 8 yrs now.
I know someone who quit the day he had a heart attack. He just decided it was time, and gave up for good. His health is brilliant now. It was a decision. You can make that decision and go for it. You don-t have to wait for a heart attack first
There aren-t any natural herbs that will help.

Though cold turkey is completely natural.
I was always told that lemon drops help wit the cravings.
I don-t know if there-s any connection, but I think anxiety leads a lot of people to smoke. Try St. John-s wort, and also Dong Quai - both have pretty good anti-anxiety effects. Best luck.
PS: Get a big bag of baby carrots and cellery and eat them during the day rather than smoke. That gives your hands something to do and are good for you!!!
Perhaps a search for -quit smoking- + -natural ways- might be of interest.

I can-t stop the hiccuping and I have heart burn (or something like that...my throat is on fire) How do I stop all of this?

Is it normal to feel extreme fatigue when you quit smoking? -

Is it normal to feel extreme fatigue when you quit smoking? -

Possibly. You must remember, that nicotine is a mild narcotic - extremely addictive. The withdrawls from it are more mental than physical. However, it would be safe to expect some mental depression which could lead to physical fatigue. Just hang in there, you-ll be just fine not smoking. Non smoking women taste better when they don-t smoke!!! - they-re clothes smell better too!!! No down side to not smoking!!! Just better health!!!
No this is not normal. Something else is going on.
