Does hypnosis really work to quit smoking? -

I am planning on going to a seminar which will have alot of people there, and i wanted to know if anyone has an experiance of going to one, and if it really worked.
I haven-t myself, but my parents went together. They both quit for a good while, but stress got them to smoking again. It seems to work initially, but it-s up to you whether or not it lasts. They also said it was a lot of fun, and wasn-t what they expected. They were a little apprehensive as well, but they recommend it to others. Good luck!
it is a short term fix but if you have the control you can cont. working with it
I went to a private setting with a hypnotherapist to quit smoking,I had smoked a pack a day for 13 years, I have not had a cigarette since meeting with her. It was still a hard not to but I did it!!!

How long after quitting smoking does the extreme rage and anger subside? -

The last time I -quit- smoking I still wanted to murder everyone in my sight after 4 months. I quit smoking again, and it-s been 3 weeks and I am so angry all the time it-s annoying as hell. Will it take years to quit being angry????
So that-s why I-m blowing up at my housemate. I-m down to a couple a day, and I forgot about the quick rages until I read your question. Quiting drinking wasn-t real bad, but I-m still hyper even after walking 3-5 mi a day. I-d walk more if it wasn-t for the gout. Time for me to take some those downers so other people can get some peace around here. Best of luck.
lol i was fine after a month so it sounds as if there is underlying circumstances
Sounds like you have a lot of anger...seek a shrink, you have issues!!
Maybe the quitting has nothing to do with the rage.
you have a choice, to be angry and miserable or be calm and happy as hell that you quit smoking.
Go to www.quitnet.com, and take your anger out on them. They will understand.

25 ways to quit smoking? -

I do NOT smoke. i need 25 ways for a school project. can you tell me 25 good ways to quit?
No, but I-ll tell you the one weird way that worked for me...

Cinnamon sticks. I chewed on cinnamon sticks. They taste good, but are not overpowering, and are about the same size and shape of a smoke. So it kept my hands busy.
A big part of smoking for me was being bored...that-s when I wanted to smoke most, when I had nothing to do. So that really helped.
One modern way to help stop smoking would be to buy the electronic cigarette, it looks just like a real cigarette and when u inhale it the end lights up like a normal cigarette, you buy cartidges for it that give you the nicotine and that slightly realistic tobacco taste, It also gives off some fake smoke to give it a more realistic affect

Anyone take Chantix to quit smoking? -

Anyone take Chantix to quit smoking? -

I am taking Chantix to quit smoking. I am on my 4th day from my quit date. So I-ve been on it for a week and a half. Now that I-m not smoking during the day, I feel sooooo hungry all the time. I-m a small girl 5ft 3in and 110 lbs, and I don-t want to gain too much weight. Anyone else who took this med. to quit or Zyban and had the same feeling of hunger? Also if there are any healthy tips to curve the hunger cravings. Forget about nicotine cravings, they-re practically gone, but now I-m sooo hungry. Just another annoying craving to deal with now. Tips please. Thanks!!
Increase hunger is a standard side effect of quitting smoking, in general. Your metabolism is getting back to normal. Average weight gain for quitting smokings is about 5-10 lbs. You are heading to a weight which you should have been. For you, if you gain a couple of pounds it is not the end of the world.
However, a side effect of Zyban (Bupropion) not Zyban is appetite suppression.
I wonder why your doctor chose the rather new Chantix over Zyban. Zyban is actually Bupriopion SR, and that is a generic drug.
Best thing is to exercise more and eat a healthy diet.
You do want to change medications in the middle of your treatment.
Hi- according to this article, when you hungry- take a walk! Replace your cravings with exercise, and you will become even healthier! Here is the article:

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070313/ap_o…

Stick with it, and good luck!
I took Chantix and had the same problem. I stopped taking it back in December (I quit smoking in October) and was on a feeding frenzy after I quit. I gained a few pounds but have since lost it. Gaining a few pounds is a small price to pay to kick the smoking habit.

Try and eat healthier things like vegetables or honey wheat pretzels. They-re good for you and also help with the oral fixation.
-Chantix (varenicline) can be four times as effective in helping a smoker give up cigarettes successfully, according to a report in JAMA (Journal of the American Medical Association). According to the report, which cites three studies, Chantix is twice as effective as Zyban (bupropion).-

Maybe that-s the reason some doctors prefer Chantix than Zyban.

About Chantix side effects I know one of the side effects is constipation, so plenty water can help taking this medication.

http://www.quitsmokinghope.com/chantix/c…

Sorry to hear that is happening to you! I am on day 18 of my Chantix program, and thankfully I haven-t noticed any increase in hunger cravings. Keep taking the Chantix though! It does help!
Chantix is a great way to quit smoking with minimal side effects, which should go away eventually. For more information about Chantix, please view the following website: http://www.121doc.co.uk/affiliate/scripts/t.php?a_aid=fbb92383-a_bid=-desturl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.121doc.com%2Fchampix.html

How do I quit smoking pot? -

I need to quit smoking for my job, for my health, and mostly for my mental self. I know it-s best if I can stop or at least cut down. How do I quit smoking if all my friends do it, I love doing it, and I can-t sleep at night when I don-t?
I agree with the first answerer who suggested a slow reduction; perhaps you could reduce the frequency and/or amount you smoke gradually instead of going cold turkey.

I-d say you also need to avoid your friends when they-re smoking. If you feel comfortable talking to them about your desire to quit, they might become a support system. If you don-t feel comfortable or they don-t accept your decision, you still need to avoid them when they smoke. Being around secondhand smoke when you-re trying to cut back would eliminate any gains you make in reducing your amount.

As for sleeping, perhaps another pre-bedtime ritual could help. It might be not purely the affect of the pot that helps you sleep, but also the -ritual- of doing that every night before bed. So if you substitute with another ritual, say an elaborate tea break or snack, that might eventually help your mind to adapt to not smoking.
After smoking two packs a day for 17 years, the only way I could quit was to throw the Cigs out the window on my way home from work. I played a game with myself to see if I could go 12 hours, and in the morning another 12 hours, then 24 hours etc. After about a week, i could easily quite and not have the cravings.

I understand your plight, I though I would be a misfit with my friends and I thought I really enjoyed it.

Now after 6 years, you could not pay me to smoke another Cig.
man to quit smoking pot you have to REALLY want to quit. i think you can start off by cutting back to half the amount you would usually smoke in one day. and every once in a while you can hang out with other people that don-t smoke pot. maybe find another activity you like sports? a gf/bf? then you can gradually pull yourself away from it.
I-d say just try to ween yourself off of it. I don-t know how much of a tolerance you have but try to keep it to like one bowl before bed. If you can do that and sleep then go as slow as you want and gradually try skipping days or taking less and less hits. good luck with it i know it must be hard.
your gonna just have to tell your friends no. there is no easy way so if you want this job you are gonna need to man up and say no otherwise if you cave once in a while that job is gone and as far as sleeping watch boring tv shows lol that helps me sleep and just try to go to bed early and relax

Has anyone tried CHENTEX to quit smoking? -

want to know the side effects, not much on the web.
There are several of us at work that have taken it and we all had the same just slightly different symptoms. We all had nausea, bad taste in our mouths if we tried to smoke, one of us had increased blood pressure, slight headaches. That was about it, but to know, we all started smoking again too!!
Do you mean Chantix? If so, there is plenty of info on the web.
Weird dreams, Irritation, Nervousness

I need to quit smoking soon and I was thinking of chewing the gum?? -

but someone told me it tastes like @ss! Any other ways to quit? Thanks.
It tastes like three day old dead ***. Wear the patch. I had to plaster them all over my body but it helped and didn-t give me the breath of a dead woman.
well I am in the same boat. Everyone that I know that has quit for good have quit cold turkey. The gum does taste like crap. You also have to have support. You will probably get bitchy and need people around you that understand. You have to drink lots of water. It might also be a good idea to take a quit smoking class I think the red cross gives those and they are free thanks to the over priced taxes on cigarettes LOL. You will have to find something to keep your mind of cigarettes. You will have to throw out everything that reminds you cigarettes. Like ash trays lighters, t shirts with cigarettes on them etc.. If you go to the bar you might want to stay away from there for awhile. It would also be a good idea to stop drinking alcohol for awhile. You need to go to places that are non smoking. Learn some deep breathing exercises. ETC..... Good luck and don-t get discouraged if you fail a couple times it happens to everyone. I have quit several times. I just can-t seem to kick the habit. I don-t like the way I become when I quit. I get real agitated easy when I am not smoking. Just remember it is a habit and habits are hard to break. Think positive you can do it. Good Luck! I am rooting for you.
hypnotists can help you quit smoking. my boss smoked at least a half a pack a day, got hypnotized and she hasn-t smoked in over a week.
It does taste terrible! And, you don-t really chew it, you bite it and hold it between your cheek and gums. I have tried everything to quit including hypnotism and nothing seems to work. There is a new drug out for stopping smoking but you have to talk to your doctor about that. I tried the first one - the one that was really an anti-depressant, and it didn-t work. This new one is supposed to be better. If you find something that works, let me know! I know I-m killing myself smoking, but just can-t quit. I lost my grandpa, aunt, uncle and mom to lung cancer and still I smoke!
I had success using nicorette
The most important thing: You must want to quit.
If you are going to quit you need to get down to it. Do not make dumb excuses like taste, because somebody told you. try it, and read the package insert carefully, because it is not a chewing gum its a gum that containd nicotine and has to be chew in a special way, and only when you are craving a cigarrete. I applaude you decision, and support you, but you need to be strong. You can do it!
I include a couple of nicotine gum brands web page that might help you to realize if you are really adicted, how it could help you and tips to succeed. Good luck!
there is a new medication out called Chantix. I know a few people at work who have taken it and quit very successfully.
Laser assisted smoking cessation is really successful! It is inexpensive and very effective.
it doesn-t... it is not as good as bubble gum but it is not horrible... and they just invented some that have flavoring so you might want to try that

How do i quit smoking when i still want to smoke? -

My body is telling me that i need to quit but my mind wont let me. Its getting harder to breathe and i-m feeling pains in my chest everynow and then. And my habit is getting worse even tho i-m still not a heavy smoker. only about 3-4 a day. I-m 17 and Ive been doing it since 14. please help
I smoked anywhere from 2 to 4 pks a day for 25 yrs when I finally stopped smoking in 1989. I was 18 when I started - couldn-t begin to tell you how many times I tried quitting.

I hate to be a pessimist but as long as you still want to smoke, you won-t be able to quit. The habit to smoke is too strong to break if you-re not fully committed.

How did I finally quit? I had chronic bronchitis for 2 yrs - it finally stopped responding to medication. My desire to be healthy - alive finally outweighed my desire to smoke. And, because smoking isn-t allowed in many places, it was pretty easy because I stopped associating places with smoking.

How about not smoking in a car? Don-t date girls who smoke (2nd hand smoke is all its said to be). I spent a lot of time around a friend who smokes - started wheezing; seldom see that friend now.
Why do you want to quit? Smoking is the great, I love it!!
There are several medications out that will help you quit. You can also join a support group to help you. Thank about your health, how much money you will save, your family-s health, how you smell and less trips to the hospital in the long run. You can do it if you want to. Good luck.

if you work and can get the new pill out thats great.. i am doing that now. but your so young you need to stop this try gum and whatever else to stop.. talk to friends that dont smoke and hang with them that will help.. keep busy too so you dont think of it.. i am so addicted to them so i understand this.. i been smoking from12 yrs old to now 48 yrs old..2 times your again.. please please quit.. i have to use neubluizer and inhalers and breathing machine.. and you will get to this point if you dont quit now.. it will take years but then damage is done.. as for my damage it wont get worse but never better... so quit. i am trying with the new pill.. i think its going to work.. been on it one day an already they tasting bad and i just been burning them and just taking puff now and then.. some can quit in 1 to 6 month.. you smoke with this pill.. it blocks the thoughts of needing them.. i wish you luck............
if it-s getting harder to breathe and you have pain in your chest, obviously your body is not saying quit - your body is saying keep doing it -- Your mind is saying quit - but you don-t want too. STOP SMOKING - you really want to carry the oxygen tank with you and be winded by the time you walk from your recliner the 10 feet it takes to get to the door to greet your 12 your old grandchild who lights up a smoke and sits with his cool grandparent?

well um, yeah, okay, whatever, have fun.
Remind yourself of how many more years you will have to live if you quit now and how grisly and painful your early death will be if you keep smoking. I-ve known people who get lung cancer, and even if you-re the 1% who don-t die from it, it-s a terrible and painful thing to go through and you-re never the same. QUIT SMOKING NOW.
Uhmm maybe its killing you thats how, find the willpower. I have never smoked but im sure you can cut back slowely every week or 2 cut down. or daily. Why does the government allow this when it kills people and thats it... Ohh wait the money they get in taxes....
start small. maybe start buying a lighter brand of cigs or try an herbal blend ( go to herbsmoke.com). also, try researching pictures of lungs after years of smoking. by looking at em, you might get turned off to cigs. or you can have a set thing you do every time you feel the need to smoke. do something productive instead like exercising. running is good. itll get u breathing better although it will be hard in the beginning.
It-s called being physically addicted to nicotine...

Of course you want to smoke. The only way to quit is to have the will to recognize the negative effects it has upon your life and overcome the physical urge.

It-s difficult to do, but it isn-t complicated on how you go about doing it.

If you only smoke 4 cigs per day and have only been smoking for 3 years it really can-t be that tough compared to the real smokers out there who accomplish it.

Is it safe to quit smoking cold turkey ? -

Is it safe to quit smoking cold turkey ? -

im thinking of quiting smoking ciggerettes and not sure if it safe to just stop.
i wouldn-t recommend it. you should quit gradually as i-ve heard of people supposedly developing cancer AFTER they-ve quit suddenly. decrease the amount of cigarettes you smoke a day by one every couple days. this isn-t too drastic and not as difficult to do. hope this helps and good luck!
If you can do that it will be wonderful. But quitting cold turkey is very hard to do because of the addiction. It also depends on how many cigarettes you smoke per day and how addicted you are to them. I admire your desire to quit cold turkey and if you can do it, more power to you in the long run. It is actually a few habits that go along with quitting. The handling of the cigarette, so have some McDonald-s straws with the paper still on them and pretend to smoke when the urge is terrible and to withdraw that desire to hold something. Your cold turkey is the best way if you can stay positive through quite a while until the urge is no longer there. It is safest but hardest way so best of luck to you and I hope it works great for you. Best of Luck.
of course it-s safe to stop cold turkey mate ....... a lot safer than continuing to ingest all that filthy poison that each cigarette contains too ...... did you know that they put wheat, sugar, lactose in cigarettes ............ why in the blue blazers is it necessary pray tell to put lactose and wheat in there ...... sugar they say is for added flavor...... i have the dubious notoriety of being highly intolerant to all three wheat sugar lactose........ within one week of ditching the filthy cigarettes my permanently puffy lidded eyes reverted to normal and my energy levels shot through the roof...... my energy levels were always pretty good anyway cos i don-t eat processed food.... but i-ve got bounce to spare now.

and my skin-s just got this extra zing........ all that luvly oxygen i guess.

yes yes yes ........ just stop ..... and repeatedly tell yourself that you aren-t addicted to nicotine and there are no detox side affects..... worked for me........ sounds like b.s....... but i assure you it-s true..... 10 years ago i tried to give up and the detox was filthy and horrid... shaking sweating, ..... stress to the max....... this time round..... no such thing..... just the constant brain chatter that you can deal with by reminding yourself that you don-t smoke and you don-t need to smoke.

power of the mind is phenomenal.

peace baby
?
Look into the e-cigarette.

The e-cigarette uses either propylene glycol (stuff used in fog machines) or vegetable glycerin to create artificial -smoke- when you take a drag. You can purchase flavorings that taste similar to cigarettes, menthols, cloves, whatever you smoke, and then mix a lower level of nicotine in with it.

The cool thing about the ecigarette, is that it lets you -smoke- without the carcinogens. There is only the nicotine, vapor, and whatever flavoring you have. Forget about the thousands of chemicals in a regular cigarette!

There are still some very low levels of carcinogens, so quitting completely is your best option. But if you find you can-t handle it, consider the e-cigarette. Nicotine isn-t the destructive part in a cigarette, the tar and chemicals are.
Absolutely. I quit on on a new year-s eve and smoked my last one while the ball was being lowered at Times Square for the new year count down. Only problem is having cravings and I ate alot of snacks but after a couple of weeks it was ok.
(However after 3 years I started again lol)
Good Luck
It is safe. Some people do fine, some people feel miserable, but it is safe and you won-t harm yourself
Every day you aren-t putting tars and carcinogens into your body is good.
Well its not safe to start so im guessing stopping would be safe and good for your health...
You might want to get on a program to ensure you-ll stop, but yeah. Stopping putting poisonous gas into your body-s good
It-s safe but really hard. Good luck to you.

What is the easiest way to quit smoking? -

Alan Carr-s Easy Way to Stop Smoking --- excellent book. I-ve been a non-smoker for 3 years now!
eat a whole onion when you feel the urge to smoke... yes, it-s quite radical, but it-s efficient

if this doesn-t work, try the classic methods
cold turkey.
have your last cigarette in the evening before you go to bed. when you wake up in the a.m., you will already have been smoke free for 8 hours! keep that in your mind to help you from lighting one up in the morning. STAY BUSY.....go for a walk, check the mail, go shopping, just stay as busy as possible the first week. this definately helps. keep chewing gum on hand for those tough moments. find a -quitting- buddy to call and talk to that first 2 weeks. I did all of the above and am happy to say i-ve been smoke free for almost 8 weeks.
only 1 true way,cold turkey!
Use Nicotine gum like Nicorette (I think that-s the name). But be sure to follow prescription and not eat beyond the recommended daily dosage.
Take a week off. Get a box of nicorett, lay in bed and watch TV. The urge will get a little less as time passes. I had it under control after the second or third day
dont buy anymore
There is no easy way. I went cold turkey. First it takes a conscious decision. Then you have to get rid of reminders of smoking. Out go the ash trays, the matches, the lighters, and the cigarettes. Then you have to not hang around people who smoke. That will help a lot. Try chewing gum. Good luck.
Stop buying the d-mn things, and then you won-t have any next time you want one.
If there was an -easy- way to quit smoking, the world wouldn-t be having this problem with us smokers, now would it?

Has anyone had the shot to quit smoking? -

Has anyone had the shot to quit smoking? -

I-m getting the shot on the 8th of Feb. I was just wondering if anyone else has had it. I-ve heard some weird things, like one couple sold their business and home and decided to live under a bridge and eat beans out of a can. But I-ve also heard positive things. So I was just wondering if anyone has first hand knowledge about it
yep given up twice now, last time lasted 18 months, so not such a great result, if you want to give up fantastic i would support if i could, as for weird things only way to put it is absolute crap, if anything you will have a craving for awhile could last a month if you can get over that you are nearly home, some say food tastes better and you can smell better i didn-t notice any change myself, , at least you will have more money in your pocket at the end of the week, ,just persevere you will get there in the end ....
I have and it was not the shot but if you think it will help, the I suggest you do it. I know a lot of other people who have also quit smoking, I talk with them all the time at http://www.medsocial.com/home.aspx.

Can any one help me to quit smoking? -

I started smoking when i was on grade 8 now i am in college and i am still smoking, but now i want it quit smoking but don know how to.....can any one help me plzzzzzzz
I quit this year in February. There is no easy way but the way I did was easier than the tries before. I am 50 years old and had smoked for 36 years , 2 to 3 packs a day. I used chantix. I picked a quit date like 3 or 4 weeks in advance. I told everyone at my work my quit date so I would have support.; I went to the health food store..bought vitamins...for stress. vitamin b especially. I bought hard candies, gum, sport water bottles of water..(i think that helped with the sucking..it was something i put in my mouth and sucked on and the water helps flush the toxins out. Two weeks before my quit date I started taking the chantix. they suggest one week but I did two because i was so addicted. about a week before i quit i started with the vitamins...on quit date do it at a time when you aren-t as stessed.. i did mine on the weekend because I don-t work on the weekend. good luck...on any way you do it.. I-ve tried accupuncture which i think does help...patches..gum, hypnosis..but this is what worked for me...support group is important...
One of my dear friends husband was a smoker...like you he started really young......we all really urged him to quit it but he just would not....last year he had an asthama attack...the doc have said that this all occured due to smoking....now becuase of this he has damage dhis lungs...is on astama mediction all the time...n also has to ocntrol his diet etc.....finally he is recoverign well....and Is not smoking any more....

As soemone who has seen a friend do thru this...bad addiction....please realize this now than later....you will hurt more people than yourself if you dotn quit.

Good Luck!
Don-t buy champix or chantix. I started feeling weird the day I started it, three days later I attempted suicide out of the blue. Stay very very far away from this drug. Google chantix and suicide or go to the fda website. It is under investigation for suicide link since Nov. 20th and they have received over 5000 complaints already. Please Please do NOT take this drug!!!!!!!!
Go see a doctor. There are plenty of good medications available to help you stop.
Once you know how much less you could pay for your health insurance, you-ll quit!
Ok stop smoking right now you f ing idiot do you know what your putting in your lungs why dont you just suck on a tailpipe

hope this helped good luck
Well dear i know your pain..I-ve tryed patches etc etc.But some1 told me the best way to give up smoking is 2 smoke like a full box in a row like 15-20 then u will feel sick and throw up.that will put u off them for life.Either that or cut off your two hands lol..Hope u can do it..All the best of luck!!-!!
ask your docter about the new one thats out its a tiny magnet just on your ear it actually stops ALL cravings
my dad smoked for more than 20 years like 1 and 1/2 boxes a day.. so on his birthday we bought him this book that stops him from smoking.. after reading it he did not smoke even 1 cigarette.. it was like magic!!
try searching on yahoo - books to quit smoking -
and maybe it would help you!
you need proffesional help,
its a tough habit to break, i don-t have any other advice but to use those smoke pills and stuff

Hello Cool,

My wife smoked for over 10 years and when she found out that she was pregnant with our now newborn 3 months old daughter, she had promised me that if I found a good solution for quitting, she will try her best to kick the habit.

Well in my spare time I started researching online for quit smoking programs, meanwhile she was trying out patches and gums that you can buy at grocery stores and adventually they would not work for her.

After about a week of researching I had stumbled over a website that really impressed me on what they had to offer and that they actually say that they can almost guarantee your success, and most importantly that you can try it out for free.

The company has been around for over 20 years now and they have helped over a million smokers quit since and their kit has everything that you possibly need to help you quit smoking, I thought WoW that is impressive.

I went ahead and ordered the free trial for my wife (only paid for shipping) and she has quit smoking in just two weeks and she doesn-t want to hear about or smell another cigarette again in her life :)

Now it is up to you, but since my wife has quit, I was so happy about her success, so much so that I had built a small review site of the product to also help other people quit, you can check it out at;
http://endthehabitnow.com
if you want to find out more.

P.S. Also available for Canada.

Thanks for reading my short story, I hope it helps, good luck and stay healthy.

all i can say is that everything affects people different, maybe you did not have the side effect of low appetite
Quitting smoking doesn,t really increase your appetite, it usally just makes the food you do eat taste better.

How could i use the law of attraction to quit smoking? -

Yes and no. You can-t really have -smoking- as part of the picture, so you have to want things like improved health, lung capacity, sense of smell, etc. As soon as you think -I don-t want to smoke- the LoA hears -smoke- and will offer you more opportunities to smoke. Even the stop smoking gum infers smoking.

Think about going hiking, or breathing the morning air, or going to the beach.

...and it wouldn-t hurt to bring along some gum or a Tootsie Pop or two, either, on your outing.

Any suggestions on how to quit smoking? -

what helped you quit?i ve been under alot stress is there anything that helped you when your under stress?
I quit by using a Electronic Cigarette. I have been smoke free for two months now and really enjoy/prefer the electronic cigarette over regular smoking. You still get the smoking feel, throat hit, nicotine and holding something in your hand so it makes the transition very natural. There is no bad smell like cigarettes so I can smoke inside and in my car and around non smokers since the smoke it produces is a water vapor.

I feel better and since it doesn-t have the tar, and all the other bad stuff found in regular cigs, It-s really the way to go in many ways.

Google - -electronic cigarette forum- and you can read about the different models and user experiences to help you determine if it-s something for you. I like the DSE-901 model myself but there are lots of different options to choose from and more coming out..

p.s. I was a pack a day smoker for 17 years and as soon as I got my E-Cig I quit regulars the same day. Haven-t gone back since.
Hi Victoria..

congrats on your decision to quit... its seldom easy, but very much doable.. i smoked for over 40 years before i found a way that worked for me a little over 5 years ago..

the one thing that has worked for me is participation in a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and online.. meetings are as close as your computer.. however you decide top quit good luck as there is simply no wrong way to quit

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Smoking is a horrible habit. I quit a 2 pack a day habit using an electronic cigarette. They are amazing. The last time I had a traditional cigarette was an hour before I got my e-cig in the mail. I have not had the desire to smoke a traditional cigarette ever since. They don-t stink at all and you can smoke them indoors at bars and restaurants. I feel a million times better now. Here is a link to the company I buy from. They have one of the best reputations in the e-cig world and great prices. Good luck on your journey to a healthier you.

I quit smoking for 2008. Now Im dealing with the weight gain. Is there a miracle metabolism fixer? -

I know all thew usual - exercise, diet. I don-t have patience for those these days.
I just want my old metabolism back.
Maybe if I started drinking coffee?
Hey, patience or not, exercise is your saviour because it-s the only natural metabolism booster that really speeds up metabolism fast.

Try cardio and weight training. The former kickstarts real quick your metabolism while the latter raises your resting metabolic rate (meaning you burn off calories even while resting.....) thru the muscle you build.

This article on how to increase metabolism might help you out:

Some foods would increase metabolism but only to certain extent.

You might want to know about them too:

so i-ve been smoking cigarettes for the past 4 years and around 2-3 packs a week. i was wondering if i quit now will i still go through long term effects of smoking cigarettes such as premature aging, erectile dysfunction, lung cancer, etc. and will the gunk in my lungs go away and ever look healthy again compared to smokers lungs?
Please, please, please quit. Your body has a fantastic ability to heal it self and it can get rid of the junk in your lungs. You may have made your self a little more at risk for lung cancer but with all the other nasty stuff in our atmosphere who could tell. Just quit, nicotine is the nastiest addictive drug there is, it makes you do things that you know are dangerous to yourself and others and that is one definition of insanity.
If you want to quit, do it! It-s tough, and I haven-t been able to yet. But if you quit before too long, your body can repair itself.
-Within 12 hours after you have your last cigarette, your body will begin to heal itself. The levels of carbon monoxide and nicotine in your system will decline rapidly, and your heart and lungs will begin to repair the damage caused by cigarette smoke. As your body begins to repair itself, instead of feeling better right away, you may feel worse for a while. It-s important to understand that healing is a process p;it begins immediately, but it continues over time. These -withdrawal pangs- are really symptoms of the recovery process.

Immediately after quitting, many ex-smokers experience -symptoms of recovery- such as temporary weight gain caused by fluid retention, irregularity, and dry, sore gums or tongue. You may feel edgy, hungry, more tired, and more short-tempered than usual and have trouble sleeping and notice that you are coughing a lot. These symptoms are the result of your body clearing itself of nicotine, a powerful addictive chemical. Most nicotine is gone from the body in 2-3 days.-

No, you-ll be fine, you-re years away from that level of risk. But keep in mind that the damage is cumulative so if you start up again your health risk will be based on total lifetime consumption.
no don-t Stop!! Buy these!! they will def reduce they gunk in ur lungs. i have been using them for over three months. they are great. i know this wasn-t the answer ur looking for but it helped me and i-m trying to help u. take care

What are some good ways to help someone to quit smoking? -

Tell them what they have to live for. (Wanna see the grand kids?)

Show them some pictures of cancer caused by smoking.

Show them their cigarette budget for the year.
Read ALAN CARR-S easy way to quit smoking....best thing i have ever done.

ADD: I-m serious, I have quit smoking many times(OTHER WAYS). This works. It doesn-t preach anything to you, it-s all just common sense.
Why would you want to do that?

yo snitzter u have a nice bud as your picture, ill tell you how i quit cigs, i smoked a joint everytme i wanted a cig- it works u just have to have a lot of weed to do it. you will sleep a lot thats for sure
There are also the electronic Cigarettes.

Now, the FDA says you can-t say they help you quit, not approved as a smoking cessation device, but a recent poll showed 708 out of 887 respondents said they helped them quit cigarettes completely.

Just wanted to throw that option out there as well.
Hey Sinizter, good question. In fact there is a lot of confusion on the best way to quit.

The fact is there is no one best way common to very one. this is because individuals have different smoking backgrounds and many other factors. A look at individual experiences however produces a pattern which makes us make better informed decisions but not to say we are following the best way to quit.

People who use quitting medication like nicotine gum, nicotine patches or nasal sprays have found great success when they combine these nicotine replacement therapies with quit smoking programs. i would strongly advice that for whatever method you finally select, be on a program.

If you are in the United States most states provide free quit smoking programs with telephone, email or one-on-one support from trained professionals. They even offer free nicotine patches etc. If not you can find very good quit smoking forums online, these also provide very good family friendly communities were you can link up with other quitting peers. Just do a Google search for quit smoking forums and see which one you can join. There you will get tried and tested help.

Some find quitting using herbal remedies helpful as it does not involve any further chemicals and toxins. Herbal quit smoking methods help with detox and general speedy body repair. So that-s yet another tried and tested possibility.

all the best and great health!
Everyone here has given great advice!

I found that it is actually really easy to quit smoking if you know how. It is kinda complicated to describe here, but you could check out

That is how I quit. It took me a few days, but it worked like a charm!
I am in the same boat you are. I myself am trying to quit smoking. I promised a very good friend of mine I would finish and I will be damned if I don-t fulfill my promise. So we both can learn together today. They-re are numerous of programs out there to help quit smoking. I will tell you a few. There is one called the Quit for Good 7 Day Stop Smoking Program. It-s an audio course, with step by step guide from the physical with drawl and the psychological aspects of quitting. It takes just about 1-2 hours a day over one week. It is available for instant download or you can have a cd set mailed right to your house. There are no side affects and the guarantee is based upon your success.
Now there is also NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy)
It is a drug which we both are familiar with - Nicotine. Lots of major brands such as Nicorette and Nicabate and your smaller brands such as Nicotrol, QuitX and etc. The point to this? Long weaning-off process over many months in hopes of slowly reducing dependency on nicotine. It does take some time though, usually between 20-24 weeks. The product is everywhere from pharmacies to doctors prescriptions. Available in patches, gums, inhalers, nasal sprays, lozenges and tablets. Bad news? No guarantee. Like with alot of medicines and/or prescriptions there are side effects. They are common but tolerable. They can also become bad enough to serious enough for you to discontinue. Jitters, irritability, nervousness, insomnia, panic attacks. If you go with the patch: skin rashes and welts can develope which can be dangerous if you have heart, blood pressure or liver problems. The gum can be habit forming and sometimes for years to come. This increases the risk of carcinogenic nictotine-derived nitrosamines which can lead to overdosing of nicotine which is a toxic poison.
Now there is another precription out there I am not 100% firmiliar with. It is called Zyban (precription only). I do know it takes about 7-12 weeks and in some cases longer and there is a generic version as well. There is no guarantee and there are a few side effects. Seizures, allergic reaction severe enough for medical attention. Mild side effects are foggy thinking, headaches, nausea, shakes, dry mouth, weight gain, rashes, sweating, constipation, suicidal thoughts. Do not drink alcohol when taking this med. To do not mix this medicine with caffeine, other drugs or medicines and pregnacy.
Another alternative way (with side effects) is Group Courses. Which is public attended courses OR in home courses which is ran by instructors or former smokers. They offer different techniques, meditation, stress management and nicotine help. Depending on the course, they can range from consecutive days over a week or so, or can be one day a week up to 8 weeks, with sometimes follow-ups after 3 months. I do not know where you live but most major cities have these courses avalable. No guarentee, but some offer a repeat free or for a small fee (within a certain time frame) if not successful first time, such as SmokeEnders — $90 within 6 months.

I hope I helped you out some! Take care and GOOD LUCK!
You could check out a Christian 12-step addiction recovery group. Ask a Baptist church where there is one near you. God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end -- time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God-s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God-s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can-t explain the world-s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner-s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: -Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus- name, amen.- I-m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could try out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group to learn about God-s will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life.
My boyfriend and I have smoked for 11 years both, and we both quit using shantix (i think that is how you spell it) We haven-t smoked for 5 weeks now. It makes you not even want to. Talk to your doctor about the side effects though....
I was too! got so expensive had to give up! i did not go cold turkey i stared cutting down it took me 4 weeks but its been 4 months and still going strong, I also bought black pepper essential oil and inhaled it when i had cravings(suggested by an aromatherapist) so far its worked for me. good luck!
You can actually get help for free. Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (784-8669) and ask them how they can help.
Get some self control and quit you beezy

Isnt there anybody who doesnt want to quit smoking? -

I-ve been craving a cigarette all day.
I concur with Erica, cigarettes =/= deathsticks.

My mom started smoking when she was 14 and didn-t stop till 48. Thirty-four years of smoking gave her COPD, pulmonary embolisms (blood clots in lungs), and have turned her lungs literally black. There is no need to smoke. I am going to be frank with you, drug use is not right for someone your age (cough... the pot), but I honestly would prefer you to stop smoking cigarettes over the pot, we will get to the pot later. But smoking is awful. If I was a bible-thumper, this is where I would put -Girl, I am praying for you every night,- but I am not because I am atheist, but you still are on my thoughts. Since you said you-ve been craving cigarettes all day, I am taking it as you are trying to quit, and good job. Continue with it. Save your money! There is not a single plus to smoking cigarettes. Come on, you got this! Stop smoking!
I recently wrote you a very detailed and heartfelt answer to your question about harming yourself. Did my words fall on deaf ears? Cigarettes cause cancer, emphysema, increase your risk of heart attack, stroke, make your breath stink, turn your teeth yellow, make your clothes and hair stink, and cost a heck of a lot of money. Not to mention that it-s ILLEGAL for you to buy them.

Denver, if you want to get your S*it together, you have to STOP doing self-destructive things.

Has anyone quit smoking with Chantix? -

My hubby and I have decided at our next doctor appointments, we-re getting a prescription for Chantix. Any success stories? Any bad effects stories?
I had a friend who hallucinated when taking that stuff. :( Sorry I don-t have anything good to give you.
I have heard quite a few people have died from Chantix and also suffered heart problems

Chantix side effects may include suicidal thoughts, depression and even violent behavior. In September 2007, Chantix side effects were implicated in the bizarre death of a Dallas, Texas man.

The Chantix label warns of various side effects, including nausea, changes in dreaming, constipation, gas and vomiting. But those warnings are more prominent and easier to find than the fine print on the package insert that warns of the possibility of psychotic and suicidal behavior. But since its approval, more and more Chantix users have reported these terrifying side effects.
Don-t take that crap. My friend killed himself while taking it. And there are tons of similiar reports!!!

i couldnt have done it thought with out chantix.

i just dealt with all the side effects bc i really wanted to quit..
My mother - my mother-in-law and they both have smoked for over 15 years. But you have to have the will power, it-s not a magic pill. Good luck! :)
The success rate of Chantix and Champix is supposed to be 40%.
Enjoy throwing up.... violently... and often.
YEAH
I quit natrually. Smoking was fun and cool in teens and twenties, pathetic and haggard ans white trashy any time after 29. I was a pack and a half a day smoker from 14 to 29. I find middle aged smokers pathetic, lacking self control and cheap. -unfortunatley people close to me are still smokers, they smell like garbage, and cough, they are an embarrassment.

I just heard about it, and I was wondering, if you could tell me about your experiences with it. Does it work and are there any bad side effects? I-d like to try it myself. One more thing, what price range is it in? Thanks in advance!
Nausea
Headache
Vomiting
Flatulence
Insomnia
Abnormal dreams
Dysgeusia (alteration in taste)

monthly pack
1 disp pack $106.99

I quit in the mid 90-s using nicotine gum and the worst side effect was the number of times that I bit my tongue or the inside of my mouth.
I took Chantix from October until just before Christmas. The drug works well to eliminate the physical cravings but you still need to deal with some of the side effects as well as the behavioral habit.

The side effects I had were nausea (for about 30 minutes after taking the medicine and during week 1 whenever I-d smoke). Towards the end of week 1 I was throwing cigarettes out after a puff or two because I thought I would throw up. The other side effects I dealt with included weird dreams (lasted the entire time I took the medicine) and problems sleeping (just the first week or two).

I quit smoking on day 8. I still wanted cigarettes after I quit because of the behavioral side of things but that slowly went away.

My understanding is that Chantix costs approximately $120/mo. My insurance covered it so I-m not sure exactly what it retails for.

Good luck quitting! I haven-t smoked since October.
Chantix is an excellent way to quit smoking with few side effects. For more Chantix information, please click the following link: http://www.buycheaponlinenow.info/chameng.php
I used -will power- by Droopy Dog.

Just decide you are going to do it, and do it.
Throw out your cigarrettes, lighters, ashtrays etc. No -after this pack,- it never works.
You have to start thinking of yourself as a -non smoker-
If you can do that, your in.

Everybody is looking for an easy way out, weight loss, baldness cures, motionless excersize, quitting smoking and there will always be someone trying to make a buck off that.
My doctor told me as soon as I am no longer pregnant he-s prescribing it, it claims it works wonders in a max of 3 months, so if anyone has used it I-d be interested to see what they have to say as well.
Hi! I-m so happy people are interested in the drug, because - from my experience - it-s almost a miracle.

I know people-s experiences differ, but sounds like the majority of people are extremely happy with it. It-s almost magic.

I-m on Day 6 with Chantix. Here-s my blog of my quit on Chantix:
http://chantixquit.blogspot.com
They say that you should try to quit on Day 8, well, by the end of Day 5 I couldn-t stand smoking and the idea of smoking. Cigarettes tasted horrible, I didn-t WANT to smoke, hated the nuisance of it, and just somehow the whole idea of smoking felt very unnecessary.

So I quit today. It-s my first day, but if I quit cold turkey, like before, I-d be climbing up the walls by now. Nothing like that. It was as easy and natural as breathing. I hear from many other people it is the same for them, it works. People with over 30 years of smoking more than 1-1.5 packs a day, they quit. Some quit by Day 10, but they quit and stay quit.

One very important thing I learned that is not mentioned by doctors rather often - you have to WEAN OFF Chantix, do not stop abruptly. That-s all.

In the first days, I felt a bit nauseous at times, felt dizzy a bit, had some gas, nothing major at all. Now it all seems to have vanished, and I-m back to normal, except no urge to smoke whatsoever. I think if you lit up a cigarette for me right in my face, I-d not want to smoke.

Just try it, you-ll see what I mean. I couldn-t believe any of it till I started experiencing it.

Costs $126 in Southern California at a local pharmacy. That-s cheaper than a month of smoking cost me (with $5 a pack). So it-s a win-win situation. (I think most insurances don-t pay for it. yet.)

One more thing - you still have to want to quit for Chantix to work. You can-t expect it to do everything for you.

Best of luck!!
test your own will power. quit cold turkey. I did it when i quit smoking, And i was a heavy smoker too. just a matter of mind over matter.I smoked close to 3 pack a day.

drinking beer doesn-t help.

Just so you know
Cold Turkey like I did 16 years ago
Its hard to quite if you have a lot of family and friends that are going to smoke around you,I smoked 20 years,I tried everything,I just had to lay them down cold turkey, and it was the hardest thing I ever did.Good luck to you,but you can do it,and you-ll feel so much better.
Go and visit some people with cancer. They might convince you.
avoid seeing it,
substitute with chewing gum and read a lot of literature about the diseases smoking causes, maybe even hang a picture of a skeleton .... I spooked myself into not smoking 3 years ago.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
god if only i knew tried patches tried zyban, tried chewing gum, tried yucky tasting spray even payed £150 to see a hypnotist think the real secret is you really have to want to and me thinks i dont really!!! know many people who gave up with the allan carr book( except me!!) and hubby just gave up with nothing so god knows how he did it!! good luck mate and if you find the magic answer please share it for all us smokers out here !!! xxx
Every one is different and responds differently. I cut down to two a day for 2 weeks and then cut them out completely, using Nicquitin CQ lozenge and Nicorette chewing gum. I-m only up to day 63 to be precise but it-s not as difficult as it had been when I tried and failed before without using a Nicotine Replacmenet Thereapy. good Luck it-s the best thing you-ll ever do.
eat lodz of chewing gum...esp da mint ones......take in fresh air, just da way you inhale smoke frm yr cig.....
try doing self-control that is the best way.
I did not smoke before. But my dad has give up smoking last month. And he spent 2 month just chewed singum!
To be really willing to quit and just leave it without turning back into it. if you are willing to quit, you will be able to do it without any chemicals
cold turky like i did one year ago.

A question for those trying to quit smoking (or those that have) ? -

What do you do when you really crave one, you know one of those days where you spill coffee on yourself, your car breaks down, you-re late for work and then you find out that you have to stay late at work.

What do you do when you want one on these days?
I had just quit for two days and today I had a bad day and I already had four. Tommorrow I am starting again.
I.m not trying now, but I have in the past. Know why I couldn-t quit? I didn-t have to will to do it. You can wear patches, which are very expensive, chew the gum, but if you don-t have the will to do it and quit cold turkey, might as well give into the cigarettes. When you do quit you have to stay clear of friends and family that smoke, because that is like setting a beer in front of a reformed alcoholic. If you go with someone that smokes, ask them politely not to smoke in front of you. If they are a true friend, they will respect your request and encourage you to keep off the cigarettes and hope for you to succeed. If they don-t, then get a new friend. The answer is in your mind and your heart and it-s called will. Wishing you the very best young lady and I certainly hope you succeed in your efforts to quit. Even if you to succeed, days, months or even years down the road, you-ll get a craving for a cigarette, just stand firm and don-t give in.
Just remember that if you even light one up you may never quit again. I started smoking when I was 15 and quit for 55 days when I was 18. I had a couple of drinks one night and lit one up. It took me 12 years before I quit again. Finally I was smoking 3 packs a day, and coughing all the time. I finally could not even inhale to smoke. All because I lit that one cigarette. Remind yourself that you are in control. You already quit so keep that promise to yourself. Be nice to yourself, you deserve not to suffer for years to come.
change your -smoking habits- do other things. the urge only lasts a few minutes.
i chew gum, eat ice cream etc...anything that makes me stop thinking of smoking and keep myself busy.

i recently had all 4 wisdom teeth cut out ooh yeah. five days havent wanted one so i decided to give them up but on seventh day now . MUST HAVE CIG.!!! i need a hobby or something very anxious dont want to use the patch or gum HELP!!!
try the Nicorette Lozenges. I-ve quit twice, the only way I was able to do it was with the gum and lozenges. It really takes the edge off.
maybe watch some really suspenseful movies or something? Try this anime, Death Note. It gets real suspenseful/addicting after a couple of episodes. You can watch that in myspacetv.
Try eating a huge meal of green bell peppers. I used this trick and it seemed to work. Tobacco and green peppers are from the same plant family and share a common characteristic of absorbing lithium from the soil.

I also used the nic gum but that is expensive and you can get addicted to it also. It did seem to cut down on the craving. I used it quite a bit and then weaned myself off of it.

Good luck, you-ll save a lot of money. Treat youself to your favorite snacks, that acts as a good sidetrack also.
Look up images of people who have lung cancer or bad teeth becasue of smoking. Study them. When you want a cig. think of those people. think.. that could be me.

Trying to quit smoking cigs? -

anyone have any good home remedies that they have tried and can say that they have worked to quit smoking responses will be greatly appreciated thanks
My husband just quit smoking and we slowly -weened- him off the cancer sticks. Here-s what we did...

We realized the only time his body actually CRAVED a ciggy, was after a big meal-breakfast, lunch and dinner. This is typically the case for most smokers. If this is true for you as well, the next time you buy a pack of smokes, give the pack to someone you really trust and tell them to ONLY give you a cigarette after each meal for a week. After week 1 is over, ask for just two cigarettes a day. Week 3, one cig a day. At this point the majority of your cravings should be curbed and quitting cold turkey won-t be easy but it-s the best route in our opinion.

My husband smoked a pack a day for 14 years and he quit cold turkey. Just recently he was with a bunch of coworkers who were all smoking and he hasn-t had a cigarette in over 5 weeks. He asked for a drag from someone and when he did, he actually got sick! We both knew the hardest part was over and now he never wants to go back.

I wish you all the best in the coming weeks and if you TRULY want to quit, you will.
The best method is to quit cold turkey, going from however much you smoke to 0 cigarettes per day. Throw away all of your smoking paraphernalia, and tell everybody you are quitting. In extreme cases, I-ve heard some people carry a jar with them to put their spent butts in. They carry it with them as a badge of shame (or honor, whichever the case may be). If you really want to punish yourself, treat each cig as a lost hand in a game of strip poker. Remember to reward yourself by spending the money you-re saving.

To combat the craving, brush your teeth, or take a shower.
I never smoked before but my cousin quit for a very long time now. When he decided to stop, he said that it wasn-t that difficult because you THINK that you need it but you really don-t. When you stop thinking about it, go play something else. Find something you could eat. Get involved in an activity just to get cigarettes outtta your mind! =)
Well. A person in my family kept mints around and whenever they craved one, they would just pop a mint in.

My mother-s solution was having a persistent daughter bug her about how shes smoking the stuff you drive your cars on, how it takes off your life, and hurts everyone you love.
I just quit. All I did was, not buy anymore or bum any from my friends after I ran out. It was really hard, but it worked. I felt like I was going to die, but I feel really good about it now.
try eating jelly belly jelly beans. .that-s what ronald reagen did to stp smoking a cigar....
or try telling your self how nasty that habit is!!
Good luck, hope this helps
I guess I don-t smoke so I don-t know why its so hard...if you have the will power cant you just like...quit?
Not trying, just do it normally as many things else.
try the patch. good luck!
get pregnant thats what i did... not to quit but it worked!

It can take a year to clear out the lungs of a regular smoker! You may want to check with your doctor to rule out an existing bronchitis or infection. Otherwise, get lots of exercise including deep breathing on a regular basis, and enjoy your expanding capacity for oxygen.
I agree with Natasha. It takes months to years to clear your lungs after years of smoking abuse to your lungs, it will take time to heal after you quit.

I quit smoking in last April, still have some tight chest and phlegm in my throat on and off. But breathing is much better than say in last April or May. Congrats to your smoking quit, make sure you don-t give in again. You should feel better and easier as time goes. Good luck!

I have smoked regularly for 2 years and am ready to quit. I don-t want to gain weight after I quit. It-s not as if i-ve been totally lazy, but I would like to gradually build up my endurance again. Any tips?
it took me about 2-3 tries, but I quit smoking and started running. i previously ran cross country in high school, but got adrift in college smoking/partying. i accomplished this change by:

1. Being consistent. Making sure I walk/ran a set distance every day at the same time. It was a park across the street (did one 2 mile loop) every day at the same time.

2. Improving my speed through interval/burst running. I started off walking mostly, but did small bursts of running to pressure my lungs/cardiovascular system. Eventually my intervals got longer until I was able to run the whole circuit. It took me nearly a month or a month and a half after about 2-3 years of smoking a pack a day.

You may have been smoking longer, I don-t know. But I realized I was on the wrong track and it was pretty hard to quit and get healthy, but I did it.

I would suggest you look up terms like Endurance/Running on the web. There are a lot of simple schedules/routines to follow. The best thing to do is make sure you are really stressing your lungs/body (don-t over do it). You have to get your heart going.
Start walking up to 30 minutes a day. You will need to cut down on calories because the average quitter gains 10-20 pounds in 6 months.

I am going to start the quot;master cleansequot;, do I need to quit smoking before I do it? -

I did a different cleanse years ago and for that one I had to quit smoking. Anyone have the answer?
yes, i recommend it if you want the best results.. and the whole cleansing experience may encourage you to quit once and for all anyways..
It-s a scam. Whether you smoke or not, you-re going to waste your money and do some serious damage to your intestinal lining. That tarry stuff that comes out is not any kind of toxin - it-s semi-digested blood from a badly inflamed mucosa. Since you won-t be able to absorb nutrients as well, you-ll lose weight through a diabetes-like derangement of your basic metabolism. Afterwards, you can look forward to a few weeks of diarrhea and abdominal cramps as your gastrointestinal organs try to repair themselves. Have fun!
Don-t let this guy above me discourage you....I did the master cleanse(Didn-t smoke during) And after ten days all my cravings were gone....I would wake up during the cleanse smelling like smoke because it was coming out threw my pores. A lil Advice tho....Just make sure you have enough Grade b maple syrup...And make sure its Organic..A gallon will get you threw the duration of the cleanse.....I got mine off ebay with free shipping...

How can I jump start my metabolism after I quit smoking? -

How can I jump start my metabolism after I quit smoking? -

I quit in November and my metabolism is just not normalizing. I eat less and the weight is still coming on. I expected to gain some, but thought I could get it off after a couple of months.Any ideas? The reason I waited so long to quit is because I was afraid this would happen. I am up one pant size already and I can-t stand it! Help! And, Yes, I am excersizing more, too.
Your metabolism is normalizing.

Nicotine increases the metabolic rate. Your metabolism has slowed down. This is what your metabolism would be - more or less - if you hadn-t smoked.

You are just not used to it yet. Because you were smoking, you were used to eating more than you would have otherwise.

You don-t know until you have quit smoking for a while the types of effects it had on you. And you have to make adjustments.

You still have to cut back on what you-re eating - you have to adjust to your new metabolism. It takes time to do so.

It is one of the prices to be paid for having been addicted to nicotine. I lost about half the weight I had gained when I quit smoking 2-1/2 years ago.

For the record, I think 10 extra pounds is a lot more attractive on a woman than a cigarette in her hands - but maybe that is just me. ;-)
Patience and regular excerise.

It takes a while but it will speed up... You-re doing the right thing!!
When my best friend quit, he had acupuncture. It rebuilt his system from the bottom up. He-s never smoked since, and he-s the pinnacle of health.
you answered your own question...exercise.....push your self..thanx for not smokin anymore ! I quit 21 years ago. I-d be in horrible shape if I didn-t !!!!

i-m trying. what worked for you?
First and foremost, you have to really want to quit for good; and you have to actually quit—not just cut back. Set a date a couple of weeks in advance and mentally prepare yourself for it.

Make a list of reasons why you want to stop smoking and keep it with you.

It helps to realize that most cravings last for less than four minutes. If you can fight through the first few days, then the first few weeks (using toothpicks, peppermints, etc), you-ll begin to notice days and even whole weeks without a craving.

I would advise AGAINST the patch and the gum. The long term success rate of those is extremely low.

I-ve found Wellbutrin (Zyban is the same thing) to be the most effective craving control method. After 6-12 weeks on that, I didn-t need it anymore.

16 months smoke free.

//
Suffering withdrawl...
Yes, its all in your mind......just set a date and decide whole heartedly to quit.....and beleive me you wont need nay patches or treatment for this self treatment.
I did. Two years ago next month. I just went cold turkey, and havent wanted one since. I smoked for 15 years, and I just had enough. They cost too much. It set a bad example for my kids. I had tried to quit before, but couldn-t.

So, I think if you really want to quit, you can.

Here-s what I did, try it:

Set a date that you will quit, and think about it every time you smoke. Mine was a friends wedding - I knew there would be alot of drinking, and therefor alot of smoking - go out with a bang! The next day I wouldn-t have wanted a cig even if I hadn-t quit!
No I haven-t actually open to REAL suggestions, tried patch, gum, and Quest So what works?
Yes. It will be 4 years in April of -06. Bought the patches (Walgreens Brand worked for me). Followed the directions exactly. Used the web based help as much as possible. Had the great desire to quit. Probably most important. You need a very good support system. Can-t do it alone. I was up to two packs a day of Marlboro Reds when I quit.

Around how much weight will I gain if I quit smoking? -

I (WANT) to gain weight since I am really skinny, Ive smoked for about three years now and im 19. How much weight would I gain if I quit and over how long? Im a male, 130lbs, 6-3.
depends
it varies
but if you want to gain weight, eat more
and start building up some muscle mass because i picture you as a walking stick (no offense) but your really thin
you can lift weights, etc
quitting smoking isnt the only thing that will help you gain weight
depends on genetics

since your real tall and thin - if you stop smoking and since your over 18 if your metabolism slows quickly as it sometimes can for people after they reach 18+ if your always snacking since your not smoking

you COULD experience a big weight gain and while its not smoking alone thats causing it, you will reason that in your head !

Many blame big weight gain on stopping smoking, the truth in the idea is how much do you snack and constantly eat?

if your a big eater and you like to snack - smoking can be a distraction and event in itself so your not eating as much, when you stop smoking you need something else to occupy your time so eating becomes the replacement and you pack on the pounds quickly

If your not a big eater and or snacker, it probably wont affect you and make a big weight gain if you quit smoking! If you can its better to quit smoking and deal with the weight problem than keep smoking because you dont want to get fat......

Good Luck!
I quit smoking at 24 and didnt gain any weight, in fact, I lost weight because of the stress and that ruined my appetite (of course the stress goes away after a month or two, I dont regret quitting at all, best thing I ever did and you will feel better in general). I was about your height and weight at 19, I didnt gain weight until 2 years ago, when I was 25. I loaded up on high carb foods like mac and cheese, became less active (watching more movies etc.), and most importantly, I started drinking lots and lots of ensure. Its pretty expensive now so you can find cheaper alternatives to it in Walmart or CVS. Thats what really did the trick. But thats to gain a little extra fat, dont do that forever or you-ll have all kinds health problems (high cholesterol etc). After you gain a little healthy fat so you look somewhat normal, you can then start building muscle instead.
Okay, well, it has nothing to do with the smoke. It-s all up to you. If you quit smoking, you will probably crave more food sooo I cant tell you how much you-d want to eat but probably about 15 pounds or more.
I think it really depends on the person. I quit smoking 10 months ago and I didn-t notice any weight gain....but I also eat healthy and workout everyday. You should quit anyway....

I need some quit smoking products? -

I need help quitting smoking, I have tried different products in the past with little success, can anybody recommend the best quit smoking products or product that works.
If you really want to quit smoking, then you really need to deal with the nicotine withdrawal symptoms, most people fail to quit when the withdrawals get on top of them, my sister found this web site
http://www.quitsmoking-daily.com
they have a natural product which will help you beat the withdrawals from smoking, my sister has been off cigarettes for 5 years now and she said she owes it to this product. I wish you a very happy and smoke free new year.
some people get addicted more strongly than others.
if you have tried some other nicotine substitutes without any success, it looks that none of them will work for you.
smoking addiction is a complex thing.
you need to work on other aspects of this, too.
keep your hands busy when doing nothing particular
find different distraction when your friends or family smoke
break the association of having a beer with having a cigarette
and always keep in mind WHY you want to stop smoking.

it is YOU who must say to yourself NO, when you get feeling for having a fag every next time.
just do not light it.
have a chewing gum instead.
take several deep breathes on fresh air (also the deep breathing of smokers have its effect on mental state, not only the drug bound to receptors immediately after that).
try yoga or other kinds of meditation to increase your mental strength...

no more products. you are just wasting your money.
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
Check out this article:

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!
Matthew.
forget products. Just don-t buy them.

That-s what finally worked for me. Every time I wanted to spend three or four dollars for a pack of cigarettes, I found something else in the store that seemed a better buy. I worked too hard for that money and refused to burn it up anymore.

wasn-t easy. But using those products don-t make it any easier, either. In fact, I think they made it harder.

Quit smoking? -

I want to quit smoking, because it-s gross, but I don-t want to get crabby, or gain weight. Has anyone out there been successful with a particular method? Help please...
Contact the Quitline and join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
four years ago I quit using the tablet, patches and gum. I started to smoke again last year and craved it continually through out the past 4 years. So in January this year, I just quit. I decided that I wanted to and I did it. I haven-t craved any, I did at first, but then got over it. I stopped coffee for a while and replaced my morning cafine burst with an energy drink instead. As for the wieght gain, I decided that instead of smoking or eating when I was bored, I would actually get up and do something. Go for a walk, take up a hobby, or make a goal. The other day, I went out and everyone was smoking around me and for the first time I felt sick not went, I want...

Cold turkey is the only way to go. You need to think like a non smoker, so for example, when you get a craving think, what would a non-smoker do now, and you will quit. Thinking like a quitter will only make you always a quitter. Make the decission, tell everyone your doing it so they can not stand around and smoke near you or ask if you want one, and just do it. (My psychologist said about the think like a non-smoker bit, she said it has helped heaps of people.)

Most importantly, good luck, and I hope you do it.
There-s a new drug on the market called Chantix. It-s supposed to control your Nicotine cravings within the brain itself, therefore you-re supposed to not have withdrawal symptoms like crabbiness. You-ll need a prescription and you-ll have to take it for two months, but if it works, then it-s worth it.
some eat gum or candies if they start on craving cigarretes due to its withrawal symptoms, you can also try it if it can work for you too.

you dont gain weight beacause you quit smoking. you gain weight bec you eat much!

and you can taper your smoking pattern, reducing each time so your body will better adapt..
Had a quick search around the internet and found a great website all about quitting smoking.

Hope it helps. keep strong you can do it
When people stop smoking they tend to focus that energy on something else like eating which is why they gain weight. You need to find out why your smoking.. and goodluck!
No matter what type of method you use, you are going to have some discomfort, because nicotine is a potent drug and is more difficult to quit than any other.

I am now taking Chantix (need prescription from your doctor for it) twice a day. It has really helped me . I went from 30 cigarettes down to 15, then down to 8 and pretty soon I will be off them completely (after 33 years of smoking).
My family says I have been quiet and tired, but not as crabby as I was when trying to quit with the other methods.
I quit smoking cold turkey, however I used nicorette patches for the first week. the key to successfully quitting and not starting again, is to be break all the old habits, like I used to smoke after my meals, so i made sure i washed the dishes really slowly and then wiped up so I-d stay busy and not want to smoke. Its hard but can be done! YOU CAN DO IT! - also, make sure you-ve got healthy snacks in the fridge at all times! dont- get caught out by eating junky food cause then you-ll stack on the weight! good luck friend.

I need tips on controlling the urge?
Get yourself prepared for the urge to smoke in advance. In most cases something triggers the craving (certain feelings, people, or places). You have to know what triggers the urge.

Let’s do a really quick exercise. Take a blank piece of paper and divide it into 2 columns. On the one side list your triggers (like “stuck in traffic”, “drinking morning coffee”, “arguing with colleague”...) and in the second column write down the alternative course of action.

There are many tips on controlling the urge and I put it in my website. You are welcome to visit it.
You can-t just want it, you need to have the proper motivation to quit.
Come back when you have that.
what a friend of mine dide when she wanted to quit for the 50th time..
she replaced cigarettes with lollipops, and that helped her alot!
hope this helps :)
Chew gum. I find that that seem to make me not want to smoke. I also have heard to try cinnamon products like big red and brush your teeth with cinnamon toothpaste. Hope this helps.

Quit smoking? Where did this WEIGHT come from? Is it true that Fucus Vesiculosus 30C? -

- a (homeopathic) will help me lose the weight. I excerise, do not eat junk and have even cut back on stuff - i simply can not get my weight to budge. I quit smoking about 9 months ago and easily put on 7 pounds on top that winter 4 i always gain and loose in the summer. now i am stuck with 10ish pounds. so, anyone know about fucus vesiculosus? does it really work and how - thanks!
the weight came from 2 places

1.smoking is a stimulant and speeds up your metabolis (a minute amount) as well as satiating your hunger

***** both of these can be offset with a few brisk walks a week and a little bit of resistance treaining

2. It-s a hand, mouth, oral gratification -- I would bet that you are eating more and nothing more complex than you have increased your total daily caloric intake --

I am not sure about Vesiculosus but I can tell you that you can lose weight by eating less and exercising --- The stuff is a natural appetite suppressant, nothing more, nothing less - as soon as you stop using it , you will gain your weight back (and then some, most likely)
if your exercising and eating right , im not sure why all this weight would be gaining.. have you had your thyroid checked lately?? the hromones from quiting smoking could have messed up something inside your body.. try getting your thyroid and blood levels checked.
The stuff you are talking about is in some of the weight pills they advertise on the web, and is hard to find. It costs when you find it on the web also. None of this is safe to use unless you ask your doctor......for me it is because of my blood pressure. I wish I could use it, it is supposed to work, but I know I need exercise for myself.
This is also called bladderwrack, and it can help a little. It helps with the thyroid function, which when not functioning properly can cause weight gain. I used it for a while and saw good results (also worked-out 5-6 days/wk and ate well). One side effect for me were headaches. The kelp has a lot of iodine in it, which can be bad for you in large doses. You can easily find it at Whole Foods or health food stores.

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

I have been trying to quit for 3 years.
I know I am pretty young to be smoking.
I want to quit before it really starts hurting me.
Stop buying cigarettes.
Think of this way, the more you smoke, the more money you spend. Let-s say in a day you buy 1 pack of cigarrette, and the cigarratte cost ard 5-10 bucks, if u dont use that money, u could eventually save 5-10 bucks a day.....35-70 bucks per mth...and year????? count urself... Make ur mind be a money-minded as in, each time u wana buy cigarrette, its the same as burning that money. i know there-s an urge for u to smoke, but at least if u think of saving money to buy something worth like a present for ur girlfriend, then u-ll think back twice. Think thrice....so on and so forth.... Ask urself, if i buy the cigarrette now, i won-t be able to buy something that i-ve been eyeing for. Trust me, if u think of money, u-ll feel the waste of buying cigarrette. Maybe u could slowly decrease as in, u-ll think of smoking lesser, 1 pack must last me for 3 days, so i can save more money, when the urge of smoking have lessen, its easier to quit smoking. THINK OF $$$$$$..
It is already hurting you now as you speak.

But you can try Smoke Away. Look it up and you can order is. It is like a pill or liquid. I forget which.

But my dad was a smoker for years. He stopped and started again. Then he started using this and he has stopped smoking for 5 years now. But you don-t take it everyday for years. You take it for a short amount of time.

It turns your cravings so if you think about smoking, I guess it makes you feel sick.

Hopefully I Helped! And Good Luck!
It took me a couple of tries before i actually quit. i began by trying to cut down to the point i was only smoking maybe 2/day. this helped me break the physical addiction and just the habit of smoking for no reason, like when your bored. if the health problems don-t make you want a quit, look at someone who has smoked all there life. i can always tell who is a smoker just by looking at them (wrinkles around their lips, leathery skin, brown and missing teeth, yellow hair, smoker-s cough and voice). you just need to committ to it. it takes a lot of strength to quit, and not everyone has it.

How long does it take for your lungs to clear out when u quit smoking? -

How long does it take for your lungs to clear out when u quit smoking? -

It depends on how long you were a smoker. Go for runs as this is a kind of karma.
Just don-t start again as it can get tempting especially when you-re drunk.
Depending on how long you have smoked for and how many cigarettes you smoked a day, you might NEVER regain normal lung function. It is quite simple - smoking kills people - that-s all there is to it.

People are to be commended for giving up this appalling habit, but in many cases the damage can already be done when you stop smoking and the damage can be permanent.

I know this from this happening to a family member - so I am not making this up.

Within 8 hours, carbon monoxide level drops in your body and oxygen level in your blood increases to normal.

Within 48 hours, your chances of having a heart attack start to go down and your sense of smell and taste begin to improve.

Within 72 hours, bronchial tubes relax making breathing easier and lung capacity increases.

Within 2 weeks to 3 months, circulation improves and lung functioning increases up to 30%.

Within 6 months, coughing, sinus congestion, tiredness and shortness of breath improve.

Within 1 year, risk of smoking-related heart attack is cut in half.

Within 10 years, risk of dying from lung cancer is cut in half.

Within 15 years, risk of dying from a heart attack is equal to a person who never smoked.
After 1 year, most of the effects are gone. I believe it takes about 5 years for them to recover completely. I quit smoking 1 year ago and I feel great.

I smoke about 3 cigs a day just to keep me from getting depressed since I-m addicted. And when I do smoke, my vision is messy the rest of the day and I-m tired. I-m always thirsty and hungry. Could it be diabetes?
Think about it. Cigarettes have nicotine in them, you are tired all of the time because you smoke.

You can quit smoking you just need support and you need to see your family doctor and a therapist, especially if you get depressed when you don-t have the nicotine.

Your best bet would be go to the doctor. It could be something like diabetes yes, but it may be nothing. It-s best to have yourself checked by a professional. Best wishes to you.

this is my second day and i am having such a difficult time. i don-t want to call -their- number at the drug company. because they are idiots. i love nicotine. i love it.
I decided not to take the Chantix after I started hearing all of the horror stories about it. One of them is a feeling of violence, so you might want to re evaluate your situation too.
a friend of mine smoked 3 packs a day for 15 years, then she was able to quit after 2 or 3 tries with commit lozenges....she said once you get past the first 2 weeks it gets much, much easier...
i think for your health and safety of yourself and others you should stop taking that medicine. they showed a special on it on tv and a couple people that were on it commited suicide or they were violent and ended up doing some crazy things to friends and family. its up to you but please be careful. i know its hard to quit. so just weigh your options. good luck

Most people have already said what you need to hear but remember that eating more is not as bad as smoking. When you quit smoking your craving stayed with you, and now your eating habit has filled that gap.

Maybe to stop the craving for food you need to start smoking (Joke). Well done on quitting smoking.
I know how you feel. I quit smoking two weeks ago. I-m using Nicorette gum, which helps with the oral fixation, and when I get the urge to smoke, I either drink 2 full glasses of water, or I get up and start cleaning. I make a point of not heading for food to relieve the craving. The cleaning helps because it gives me a sense of accomplishment. Exercise also might help, go for a walk. I also find that doing something like knitting helps, keeps my hands busy. Quitting smoking does lower metabolism a bit, I have an extra cup of coffee sometimes to give my metabolism a bit of a boost.
Hope this helps! Congrats on quitting smoking. It-s one of the hardest habits to break, so I say if you can succeed at quitting that, you can do anything you put your mind to.
Try a product that works really well for this. It is not easy to find though. GUNA Addict1 or GUNA Addict2 (maybe both).
