There are also the electronic Cigarettes.

Now, the FDA says you can-t say they help you quit, not approved as a smoking cessation device, but a recent poll showed 708 out of 887 respondents said they helped them quit cigarettes completely.

Just wanted to throw that option out there as well.
Hey Sinizter, good question. In fact there is a lot of confusion on the best way to quit.

The fact is there is no one best way common to very one. this is because individuals have different smoking backgrounds and many other factors. A look at individual experiences however produces a pattern which makes us make better informed decisions but not to say we are following the best way to quit.

People who use quitting medication like nicotine gum, nicotine patches or nasal sprays have found great success when they combine these nicotine replacement therapies with quit smoking programs. i would strongly advice that for whatever method you finally select, be on a program.

If you are in the United States most states provide free quit smoking programs with telephone, email or one-on-one support from trained professionals. They even offer free nicotine patches etc. If not you can find very good quit smoking forums online, these also provide very good family friendly communities were you can link up with other quitting peers. Just do a Google search for quit smoking forums and see which one you can join. There you will get tried and tested help.

Some find quitting using herbal remedies helpful as it does not involve any further chemicals and toxins. Herbal quit smoking methods help with detox and general speedy body repair. So that-s yet another tried and tested possibility.

all the best and great health!
Everyone here has given great advice!

I found that it is actually really easy to quit smoking if you know how. It is kinda complicated to describe here, but you could check out

That is how I quit. It took me a few days, but it worked like a charm!
I am in the same boat you are. I myself am trying to quit smoking. I promised a very good friend of mine I would finish and I will be damned if I don-t fulfill my promise. So we both can learn together today. They-re are numerous of programs out there to help quit smoking. I will tell you a few. There is one called the Quit for Good 7 Day Stop Smoking Program. It-s an audio course, with step by step guide from the physical with drawl and the psychological aspects of quitting. It takes just about 1-2 hours a day over one week. It is available for instant download or you can have a cd set mailed right to your house. There are no side affects and the guarantee is based upon your success.
Now there is also NRT (Nicotine Replacement Therapy)
It is a drug which we both are familiar with - Nicotine. Lots of major brands such as Nicorette and Nicabate and your smaller brands such as Nicotrol, QuitX and etc. The point to this? Long weaning-off process over many months in hopes of slowly reducing dependency on nicotine. It does take some time though, usually between 20-24 weeks. The product is everywhere from pharmacies to doctors prescriptions. Available in patches, gums, inhalers, nasal sprays, lozenges and tablets. Bad news? No guarantee. Like with alot of medicines and/or prescriptions there are side effects. They are common but tolerable. They can also become bad enough to serious enough for you to discontinue. Jitters, irritability, nervousness, insomnia, panic attacks. If you go with the patch: skin rashes and welts can develope which can be dangerous if you have heart, blood pressure or liver problems. The gum can be habit forming and sometimes for years to come. This increases the risk of carcinogenic nictotine-derived nitrosamines which can lead to overdosing of nicotine which is a toxic poison.
Now there is another precription out there I am not 100% firmiliar with. It is called Zyban (precription only). I do know it takes about 7-12 weeks and in some cases longer and there is a generic version as well. There is no guarantee and there are a few side effects. Seizures, allergic reaction severe enough for medical attention. Mild side effects are foggy thinking, headaches, nausea, shakes, dry mouth, weight gain, rashes, sweating, constipation, suicidal thoughts. Do not drink alcohol when taking this med. To do not mix this medicine with caffeine, other drugs or medicines and pregnacy.
Another alternative way (with side effects) is Group Courses. Which is public attended courses OR in home courses which is ran by instructors or former smokers. They offer different techniques, meditation, stress management and nicotine help. Depending on the course, they can range from consecutive days over a week or so, or can be one day a week up to 8 weeks, with sometimes follow-ups after 3 months. I do not know where you live but most major cities have these courses avalable. No guarentee, but some offer a repeat free or for a small fee (within a certain time frame) if not successful first time, such as SmokeEnders — $90 within 6 months.

I hope I helped you out some! Take care and GOOD LUCK!
You could check out a Christian 12-step addiction recovery group. Ask a Baptist church where there is one near you. God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end -- time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God-s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God-s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can-t explain the world-s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner-s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: -Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus- name, amen.- I-m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could try out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group to learn about God-s will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life.
My boyfriend and I have smoked for 11 years both, and we both quit using shantix (i think that is how you spell it) We haven-t smoked for 5 weeks now. It makes you not even want to. Talk to your doctor about the side effects though....
