What is the life expectancy of a patient with mild emphysema that just quit smoking? -

it depends on how old you are, and on any other underlying medical problems, and how well you manage whats left of your lungs....if done properly, the life expectancy can be a long one......if not it can be abruptly shortened....so no to smoking, and stay away from others that smoke...
I asked a similar question to my doctor little while ago, doc said it is promising if the patient should quit smoking and do a series of curing process provided by medical professionals.

Make sure he/she quits smoking. Good luck!

after you have done the program, and you have quit smoking , what happens after your done taking the pill,do you wanna start smoking agian(willpower)
Not likely, but if you backslide, you can take Chantix again. For more Chantix information, click the following link:
http://www.121doc.com/champix.html?a_aid…

Chantix is an awesome drug! It fools those nicotine receptors in your brain into thinking they are full of nicotine even when you have not smoked and they have no nicotine. If you do have a ciggie when you are on it you just don-t really want it as your receptors already think they are full!
My Dr told me that I as I smoked for 28 years I probably should stay on the chantix for 3-6 months. I did and I do not want to smoke! Everyone is different but it takes 28 days after your last puff to get the nicotine out of your system. Afer you have gone for 3 months or more you may miss smoking but you really don-t crave smoking any more. During the time on the chantix you need to find your niche in what you will do with your hands. That is part of the habit. I started crocheting and answering quesions on Yahoo! :)
A great program, realy works, stay away from people who do smoke if possible, do not keep ciggies in your house or car, and if you get the urge to have one, just play games with yourself - At 2 -clock I will go to the store, well, I have gone this long so I will stop after work, I will go to the store tomorrow, I will go to the store Tuesday, and so on. It works!
Best of luck and congratulations for a smoke free life! There are the risks one takes with smoking, the smell of it in your hair and clothes and it is just not socially acceptable anymore. I am a product of the 60;s and everyone smoked! Ah, well!

Can I quit smoking permanently? -

I think I have what is known as an oral fixation with smoking. I know it-s horrible for me, but yet I continue depsite my husband-s discouragement. I-m a reasonably intelligent individual, although I think I may be addicted not only psychologically, but now chemically!
the best way to answer is perhaps to know the limits
of being bored and then compensate..

for instince i still have issues with being bored and injoying
such moments that i should not take for granted..

good question..

mdg
i know what you mean. i have stopped smoking after to many years, have now quit for over 2 years now, but my mouth still hungers after a ciggie, not my body - just my mouth. i never thought i could quit as i don-t cope very well not having a fix, i stuck to it with zyban. now i don-t smoke. the great thing about that is the savings. we go out, buy and travel so much more now that i don-t puff all that money away. try and stay positive when quitting. but also remember you must want to give it up for yourself, not for others as it really doesn-t work.
it-s hard but it-s possible. if my dad stopped smoking after years of smoking, you can if you are really determined too.....
It is very hard to quit that nasty stuff but it is still possible. cigs are more addictive than crack(seriously). I have never known anyone to quit for good but I still think it is possible.
you have to quit smoking as soon as possible. it is dangerous especially for a married woman. after pregnancy it leads to abnormal foetal development. meditation can be done to calm your mind. regular excercise can increase your vital capacity of ur lungs. it leads to bad breath , so it can lead to ur turn off . it is also problematic for ur husband to tolerate. get rid of it gradually by practising every day and resolve not to smoke.
nicotine is the hardest habit to break. go to a support group if you can find one, for psychological help and try to replace your oral fixation with something healthier. thats why nicorete gum works so well. good luck.
i know 2 people that quit after hypnotism, one seven years now and the other three years. i-m going to try it.
anyone can quit. It takes alot of determination though. You could use a patch or candy to help
You can do one of two things.

1 - Smoke the very smallest bit of pot with your tabaco (this is knows to reduce the chances of cancer by 3 times)

2 - The main thing that smokers face when they are going to quit smoking is the fact that they feel that they are loosing something by quiting smoking. The withdrawal symptoms are actually all in your head. you bring them upon yourself.

ALSO - IF you smoke a lot on your own remember why you began to smoke. -Because it was cool-... now smoking on your own, is that cool? There for if your going to smoke smoke while your with people so you can be -cool- and only smoke a little bit at a time and hold it in for longer. that way you dont end up finishing 4 packs in 10 min (it will also feel just as good)

thanks.
Easiest? Will power, bubba, will power. Inner strength. Commitment to a personal goal. You-re the only person who can quit your own smoking.
get all the cigs u have and shred and throw them out. and every time u have the urge to smoke do something else anything productive, and with the help of someone you can accomplish it. i helped my friend with this and he never smoked again 6 months smoke-free
there is no easy way to stop smoking
Perhaps you should join a Quit Smoking Clinic.

Ive quit smoking cold turkey and am having a lot of anxiety!!!! Anyone with some veiwpoints to stick with it? -

im really trying to turn my life around one step at a time I recently quit smoking and am one smell away from falling back.... I dont want to lapse but I-ve been stressed a lot lately and this is adding to my frustration.... How to quit... stick with it and let go for good!!!!
Cold turkey makes a wonderful sandwich!!! When you feel the anxiety start to build, take a walk, a steamy shower and sing to your heart-s delight, even have a good cry if you feel it!

You can do many small things to sooth anxiety that have nothing to do with smoking...how about: Walk to the store and buy a magazine about diet, exercise, or healthy interesting hobbies. You can use the money you didn-t spend on butts for the week!!!

Good luck, and keep it going!!!
Think of how difficult it was when you first quit. Remember that it is easier now (no matter how difficult it is)...it-s still easier than those first couple of days. Remember that you are stronger than that cigarette that had you tethered for so long.

Go out to a place where you can-t smoke. Stay there until the urge goes away...mall, library, movie theater.

Good luck!
Withdraw off of opiates for just one hour and you will realize how easy it is to quit smoking. Be glad it doesn-t hit you physically to where you cannot move, puking, crapping your brains out and sweating. Plus mind games after that.

Drink some tea, buy Valerian Root.
I would recommend going to a doctor and telling him you-re trying to quit smoking and having anxiety. Sometimes they put people on medication before the stop so it-s not so bad. I tried to quit cold turkey and had massive mood swings so I started back. SO - my next plan of action is to go to the doc and follow the instructions I just gave you.

Serious question...is it harder to quit smoking or not masturbate for a year? -

Serious question...is it harder to quit smoking or not masturbate for a year? -

just wondering.....ive never smoked before, but i want to know how hard it is to quit
much harder to quit smoking..
i think it-s harder not to masturbate one year
Sex like hunger or sleep is a basal necessity for men, unlike smoking that is not a necessity.
Don-t start smoking and don-t quit masturbating ! That-s what is best for your health.
depends on who you ask! i had an easier time quitting smoking. i haven-t smoked in 3 months, and i quit rather easily. now masturbation on the other hand... good lord, couldn-t make it a year..... lol
funny.. harder to quit cause it is an addiction
first, are you saying you are trying or you want to quit masturbating?

as for smoking..
well, once get addicted, you just couldn-t live without it, seriously.
it is way easier to give up smoking than masturbating. the pleasure from masturbation far exceeds the pleasure of smoking.
harder to quit smoking because it is a chemicl addiction
It is much harder to quit smoking, very hard to quit so don-t even try it.Just as hard to quit cocaine so it is.

Just quit smoking quick question? -

Just quit smoking quick question? -

I just quit smoking and it feels like I got something stuck in my throat how long does this last and what is it?
I grew up near people who used to smoke. You may even go around reaching for you cigarettes from your pocket. I hear it last for 2-3 weeks. It should ease by then.
Don-t worry about it, it-s just a physical response to the change in your body as it adjusts to life without the toxins from smoking. This is the natural self-healing process of your immune system working, that-s all.
maybe phlegm. actually you-ll find that you will start coughing more and raising a brownish colored mucus as the body cleans the airway. this may last up to six weeks. urges to smoke will be frequent thats why some people resort to nicotine patches, I can-t say they are 100% effective for everyone but they can help.

when i help people to quit smoking the first thing i begin with is to tell them to smoke up all the cigarettes they have or throw them out, and don-t buy anymore period. secondly if you have to smoke bum one or two from friends, don-t buy any. eventually your friends will stop giving you ciggies b/c they cant afford two bad habits or you-ll stop bumming b/c it-s embarrassing. the corollary is you slowly reduce your nicotine dependency. will power is the third thing. no matter whose program or what method if you dont have the will to quit you wont. Last thing, the urge to smoke can stay with you the rest of your life, it-s imprinted on a brain cell somewhere in your unconscious mind. I gave up smoking 40 years ago but may have one or two ciggies in a year just b/c i feel the need. can-t explain why, don-t care. i just feed the temptation and then let it go. most quitters cant do that.
You will find that your body does some strange things during the first few months. It is your body-s way of getting rid of all of the toxins.

I was very sick for about 3 months. I had bad headaches, nausea, coughing, soar throat, and of all things I got an ear infection. Dr. said it was all related to quitting and that these were my withdrawl symptoms.

Stick with it. It is probably the hardest thing you will ever do but it is worth it in the end.
I quit a 5 pack a day habit, For about 14 months I went the a bunch of crap One phase was a smokers hack at about 3AM and 3 PM

One phase was charlie horses, one phase was shortness of breath that put me in the hosp 5 times

Most of the 1st year I fliped from High to low BP, my pulse rate all over the place

But I stuck it out 2 years behind me going for 3
a couple of days its only your throat healing back up
First I should say that quitting smoking can only help you.
I smoked for about ten years and when I quit I was a heavy smoker. I was smoking at least a pack and a half a day.
I quit cold turkey and never had a relapse, so if I can do it you can do it.
Aside from all that, go to a doctor when you get the chance.
If you can-t afford a doctor and your throat get-s worse, go to the emergency room.
You are choking on a nicorette, or else...

Its your lungs finally able to clear. It could last a week or two, then you will be all better.

Keep up the good work.

Can anyone break down Allen Carrs book how to quit smoking quot; The Easy Wayquot; without me reading it? -

Please?
Here it is in a nutshell.

You smoke because you-re addicted to nicotine. But the physical part of that addiction is very minor. It-s your psychological dependency that-s the problem. That-s because you believe it helps you in some way, that you enjoy it or it gives you a benefit. The slight feeling of withdrawal triggers your mental dependence and you then fool yourself into believing you need a cigarette. But all the cigarette will do is create the craving for the next.

Do you think you need will power to quit? Why would you need will power to stop smoking if you didn-t want to smoke? The trouble is you do want to smoke and Allen Carr-s method will explain why you smoke, not why you should stop. When you know why you smoke and how the nicotine trap works you won-t be fooled any longer and your desire to smoke will be removed as well as your fears of how you will deal with life without cigarettes.

The addiction is 99% in your mind because you believe you need cigarettes. But the truth is you don-t. You didn-t need them before you started to smoke did you?

Try using Allen Carr’s Easyway To Stop Smoking. You can buy the book, watch the DVD or attend an Allen Carr Clinic. All Allen Carr therapists have been smokers and have used his method to quit. Providing you have an open mind, you will find this method not only easy but enjoyable. It doesn’t have to be traumatic. Smokers make it hard for themselves because they don’t go about it the right way. Check out the website http://www.allencarr.com.au/states/qld to find out more.
From what I read on Amazon, it appears that the book deals with the psychological and mental aspects of smoking. It-s what I worked with, myself, while I was quitting in January 2005. I looked at when and why I smoked and questioned what I really got out of it. I bought a pack on Monday, the first week of the year, and by late Friday evening (before midnight, I think) I smoked my last bit. I weaned myself from them.

If you don-t want to buy the book, see if the library has it. Go to Barnes and Noble or Boarders and sit and read it and take notes. (I-ve done that many times.) Or, see if you can find it at a used bookstore for under $5.

How successful is hypnotherapy in quitting smoking? -

How successful is hypnotherapy in quitting smoking? -

Can people please share their personal experiences and stories of hypnotherapy and quitting smoking? Does it work or is it a waste of money?
well let me tell you , it is really helpful for thoes who really want to quit smoking , and it is not awaste of money or anything , it takes while for to quit smoking, but after you quit you will never come back to it , because this kind of treatment cure you gradully wish make you get use to live without putting the sigars in your poket , but if you want my advise i got to tell you , you have to belive in your self that you want to quit smokin , and good luck bro!
I tried it once, about thirty years ago. I don-t really believe I was hypnotized to begin with. I t didn-t help me quit smoking at the time, although I think I slowed down for a couple of days, trying to justify to myself spend the $50. I quit once for 10 years and I haven-t smoked in the last 2 years, but I can-t say I will never smoke again..... But I hope not... Yes cold turkey is the way.
Recent studies show that hypnosis has some short term benefit but wears off rather quickly. You best bet is to go cold turkey. Think of it like this if you were shipwrecked on a deserted island and you couldn-t get smokes you would get over it in around 3 days

How can i quit smoking? -

I really need to quit. i only have about 1/2 a pack a day and ive been doing it for about a year but i need to quit like now. im thinking of getting an off brad patch but will they work.
Contact the Quitline and join a Quit Smoking Clinic.
I was a smoker for 25 years and I had quit smoking for over six times ,but never really quit smoking before.Just after I read that quit smoking program, I realized how easy quitting smoking was.I am a non-smoker now! I highly recommend this program to you.It really works. You can check out
http://quit-smoking-in-3-hours.info

Good luck!
A very wise decision, I must say. When on the path to quitting you have to overcome 2 things.

a) Withdrawal symptoms like mood swings, anger, depression, insomnia and headaches.

b) Nicotine craving.

I would recommend a natural or herbal remedy to overcome the above 2 factors. I successfully quit smoking using -Crave RX- drops. The remedy is effective but harmless and carries on side effects.

For further information go to the following source.
i don-t smoke but i have done some research on it b/c i have a loved one that smokes and i would love for him to quit. anyways, one thing it says is that a crave is not a demand. you need to divert from the crave and do something else. take a walk, be active. it is so bad for you and whoever you hang out with. it is just a disgusting habit that i wish the tobacco industry would be sued for helping people die.
These are really good tips I have heard to stop smoking. Hope they help.

Because a smoker forms the habit of putting something in their mouth, and it-s like always a cigarette. you will need something else to put into your mouth, like lollipops.

Have a peppermint each time you crave a cigarette, the craving will go away somehow.

Be sure to have lots of water, the nicotine will wash out within 48 - 72 hours. Let-s say, the same amount as some scientist discovered. 6 - 8 glasses a day.

Make sure you get a lot of fresh air and exercise, it will help your brain recover

Have faith. Thinking you can-t do it over and over won-t help.
