If I quit smoking, how much weight gain would make me in worse shape. Im 51quot; , 117..? -

I would like to start an exercise program, but due to a back condition, it-s very hard to really get to a level that burns off a lot of calories......Help....so is it better for my health after 25 years of smoking to gain the weight or stay smoking and be thinner.....also how much could I gain and still be considered healthy or healthier than if I smoked?
quitting smoking is the best thing you can do for your health! even if you gain a little bit of weight, smoking will never make you healthier!!
I quit somking in November it was really hard. I didn-t gain weight I already needed a little exercise but I went to eating candy for about 1 month straight after quitting. But I didn-t gain/ eat healthy food like carrots or something like that you will be fine, you would rather be a few pounds heavier than somking right!
If you just keep active you wont gain the weight the weight is brought on by not having the cigarette in your hand so you turn to food and snacks try this a good fitness plan could start with you getting out and doing more outdoors for a good tip on fitness try this,

http://www.fatburningfurnace.com/?hop=br…

If you plan on losing weight and keeping it off doing things outdoors like riding bike hiking fishing stuff like that will keep you active , check out sites like
http://snowsportblog.blogspot.com/
get involved in their group they just started would be a great place to keep active see the link in the labels under subscribe to the turtle club
stop smokn is the best thing u can do for ur health sure u might gain weight bak but who cares if ur healthy and you can excirse and eat right to lose it again you could gain several or a just a few pounds depends how active you are and if you watch your diet etc
Giving up smoking alone won-t make you put on weight.
The reason some people put on weight is because they eat when they would normally smoke to keep them occupied.
If you give up smoking then just control what you eat.
If I quit smoking, how much weight gain would make me in worse shape. Im 51quot; , 117..? -

I would like to quit smoking, iam smoking from 14 years.? -

These days iam getting head ache regularly, and it is getting longer time to recover from cough problem, I do have will power to quit smoking but iam afraid of withdrawl symptoms, so please advise me any alternatives.
Withdrawal symptoms are nothing compared to lung cancer. Withdrawals aren-t really that bad - it-s only for a few days. Would you rather go through a few days of withdrawal and end your 14 years of bondage or coninue to be a slave to the cancer stick?
My grandma smokes, and her skin is paper thin. Shes purple/orange, and you could bruise her by touching her. I highly recommend not turning into her so I would suggest quitting. Did you know, that every second when your NOT smoking, your lungs are actually healing. Its just that it never seems that way cause you would smoke another one just 25 minutes later, and contaminate them all over again. The headaches and coughing are definate symtoms from smoking, and if your seriously serious about quitting, talking to your doctor would be the best. He/she could guide you in the right way with the right treatment.
Fall in love with a grl zat dnt like smoker n she will hlp u dear... she will change ur life dear... Blive me...
youll never quit.
its never bad to quit smoking, just do it and your lungs will clear up.
iam in the process of quiting. the first two weeks is extremly hard. but as long as you pass the cravings it gets easier. trust me.
Yeah here-s the hard part. There are lots of things to do though. Pills/patches/gums. All will help but if you don-t follow them directly they won-t work..

Your best bet is, as I-ve said in many other questions, talk with your doctor. Tell him how you-ve been feeling and that you-re interested in quiting but have anxiety because of the withdrawl symptoms. If anyone could help, it-d be him/her!

How to make a friend quit smoking? -

If the friend is in his/her 20-s(still young and don-t think much of the consequences of smoking).

1) we care for them.
2) we (non-smokers) don-t like our air to be polluted by 2nd hand smoke.
You can-t make a friend quit smoking. It-s their choice. But you can insist that they not smoke around you indoors, since in that case *your* health is at risk.
Hi Kranbery,

take a look at this discussion forum thread. Maybe electronic cigarettes are something for your friend.

Some say that using electronic cigarettes can help you quit smoking. Currently there is no scientific evidence for or against it. One option is to gradually lower the level of nicotine in your cartridges to become nicotine and tobacco free.

Don-t force your friend and don-t complain about 2nd hand smoke. That won-t work.
Good Luck! It-s not easy ...
The Difficulty in Kicking the Habit

Smokers may have started smoking because their friends did or because it seemed cool. But they keep on smoking because they became addicted to nicotine, one of the chemicals in cigarettes and smokeless tobacco. Nicotine is both a stimulant and a depressant. That means nicotine increases the heart rate at first and makes people feel more alert (like caffeine, another stimulant). Then it causes depression and fatigue. The depression and fatigue — and the drug withdrawal from nicotine — make people crave another cigarette to perk up again. According to many experts, the nicotine in tobacco is as addictive as cocaine or heroin.

But don-t be discouraged; millions of Americans have permanently quit smoking. These strategies can help you quit, too:

Put it in writing. People who want to make a change often are more successful when they put it in writing. So write down all the reasons why you want to quit smoking, such as the money you will save or the stamina you-ll gain for playing sports. Keep that list where you can see it, and add to it as you think of new reasons.

Get support. People whose friends and family help them quit are much more likely to succeed. If you don-t want to tell your parents or family that you smoke, make sure your friends know, and consider confiding in a counselor or other adult you trust. And if you-re having a hard time finding people to support you (if, say, all your friends smoke and none of them is interested in quitting), you might consider joining a support group, either in person or online.

Strategies That Work

Set a quit date. Pick a day that you-ll stop smoking. Tell your friends (and your family, if they know you smoke) that you-re going to quit smoking on that day. Just think of that day as a dividing line between the smoking you and the new and improved nonsmoker you-ll become. Mark it on your calendar.

Throw away your cigarettes — all of your cigarettes. People can-t stop smoking with cigarettes still around to tempt them. Even toss out that emergency pack you have stashed in the secret pocket of your backpack. Get rid of your ashtrays and lighters, too.

Wash all your clothes. Get rid of the smell of cigarettes as much as you can by washing all your clothes and having your coats or sweaters dry-cleaned. If you smoked in your car, clean that out, too.

Think about your triggers. You-re probably aware of the situations when you tend to smoke, such as after meals, when you-re at your best friend-s house, while drinking coffee, or as you-re driving. These situations are your triggers for smoking — it feels automatic to have a cigarette when you-re in them. Once you-ve figured out your triggers, try these tips:

* Avoid these situations. For example, if you smoke when you drive, get a ride to school, walk, or take the bus for a few weeks. If you normally smoke after meals, make it a point to do something else after you eat, like read or call a friend.
* Change the place. If you and your friends usually smoke in restaurants or get takeout and eat in the car, suggest that you sit in the no-smoking section the next time you go out to eat.
* Substitute something else for cigarettes. It can be hard to get used to not holding something and having something in your mouth. If you have this problem, stock up on carrot sticks, sugar-free gum, mints, toothpicks, or even lollipops.

Physical and Mental Effects

Expect some physical symptoms. If you smoke regularly, you-re probably physically addicted to nicotine and your body may experience some symptoms of withdrawal when you quit. These may include:

* headaches or stomachaches
* crabbiness, jumpiness, or depression
* lack of energy
* dry mouth or sore throat
* desire to pig out

Luckily, the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal will pass — so be patient. Try not to give in and sneak a smoke because you-ll just have to deal with the symptoms longer.

Keep yourself busy. Many people find it-s best to quit on a Monday, when they have school or work to keep them busy. The more distracted you are, the less likely you-ll be to crave cigarettes. Staying active is also a good way to make sure you keep your weight down and your energy up, even as you-re experiencing the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Quit gradually. Some people find that gradually decreasing the number of cigarettes they smoke each day is an effective way to quit. However, this strategy doesn-t work for everyone — you may find you have to stop completely at once. This is known as -cold turkey.-

Use a nicotine replacement if you need to. If you find that none of these strategies is working, you might talk to your doctor about treatments. Using a nicotine replacement, such as gum, patches, inhalers, or nasal sprays, can be very helpful. Sprays and inhalers are available by prescription only, and it-s important to see your doctor before buying the patch and gum over the
You can help ease the transition by being there for your loved one and helping them to get through the withdrawal stages. It can affect a person’s sleep, their concentration and their overall physical health. You have to remember that a smoker has been allowing toxins and bad chemicals into their body for a long time and it’s going to take a great deal of time for the body to completely rid itself of the toxins. Try to take on some of the stress load and avoid confrontation or arguments with them in the first few weeks of them quitting.

How to Minimize Weight Gain When You Quit Smoking
Most people who quit smoking worry about gaining weight. It seems to go with the territory. While a small gain is normal, excessive weight gain when you quit smoking can create new health problems and erode your determination to stay off cigarettes. Learn what you can do to keep your weight under control as you go through the process of recovery from nicotine addiction.

Why do people gain weight when they quit smoking?
Smoking effects a person-s metabolism and also burns calories:
Smoking burns up to 200 calories a day in a heavy smoker
Because smoking burns calories, metabolism is boosted (increased) slightly
Nicotine is an appetite suppressant
When you quit smoking, a gain of between 5 and 10 pounds during the first few months of cessation is normal.
i know that happen...some demon had you diet on sigarre
dont go back...if you feel like smoking..place one pair of cigarett on the cabitnet..and say this is for you demont
YOU REPLACED AN ORAL FIXATION WITH FOOD....MAYBE GUM OR SOMETHING ELSE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
good for you!! DO NOT GO BACK TO SMOKING because of the weight, whatever you do, do not eat any sugar for 1 week, and see if that helps
The only things making you gain weight are your mind, hands, and mouth. If the mind were to tell the hands to put more vegetables into the mouth along with less fat, sugar, and carbohydrates, the problem would be solved. Count your calories... don-t take in more than you burn. Simple.

-Nuff said?
ok
Almost everyone gains weight when they first quit smoking it,s perfectly normal. Look at it this way losing weight is easier than quiting smoking. Congratulations on quitting and good luck with the diet.
gud dat u quit
there is nothin 2 do with dat for ur wt
u must b not havin a proper diet,
chk wat u eatin like dairy products n chocolates
What ever you do Don-t go back to smoking! You are now satisfying your oral craving with food. You must choose low calorie munchies perhaps celery. Drink lots of water and get lots of exercise.

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

I have to quit smoking mentholated cigarettes. What is the best way to do this?
hi James..

after smoking more than 40 years i have now been nicotine free for over 5 years..the only way i ever found to quit, was with a support group.. i attend Nicotine Anonymous meetings both locally, and on line... on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and your welcome to attend before actually planning a quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Due to the unpleasantness of the withdrawal symptoms, many people who try to quit smoking end up replacing the cigarettes with some other type of addiction. This may be an addiction to prescription medication, such as sleeping tablets or tranquilizers, or an addiction to food. While you will definitely experience the health benefits of giving up nicotine, no one wants to replace one addiction with another!

A healthy diet, adequate exercise as well as natural and holistic treatments such as acupuncture, massage and herbal and homeopathic remedies can also help the smoker overcome nicotine addiction. Herbal and homeopathic treatments are a safe and effective means to reduce nicotine cravings (without giving you more nicotine) and will also help to prevent weight gain and alleviate anxiety and irritability. Basically, natural and holistic treatments not only lessen the urge to smoke, but also help you to restore balance in your body.

There are a number of ingredients such as Avena sativa, Garcinia cambogia and Gotu Cola (Centella asiatica) which will help to address the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. They reduce nicotine cravings and balance the mood.

You may get more info on some of these on the source link below
I have been using green smoke for a while now and i can tell u its 100% a healthier alternative than smoking! no carcinogens carbon monoxide or tar, just nicotine and u can use it to ween yourself off if u like....... but the best part is it looks and feels like u are really smoking but its just water vapour!! check out the website and read up on the benefits I-m sure u will be as impressed as i was!!! u can also use this code disc10-7097 to get 10% off the price should u decide to join us green smokers lol hope this helps

Go buy some nicotine lozenges. They curb my craving when I have them. They are slow releasing so you lose the craving. So if your addicted keep them in your mouth when you feel a craving
Get some non-menthol smokes!!!
Stop smoking loll not that hard, just quit doing it

If i quit smoking at 18 will it make a difference? -

If i quit smoking at 18 will it make a difference? -

If i quit smoking at 18 will it make any difference at all??

For example will my lungs re-heal them selfs?
Or is it already to late, am i stuck with these black lungs for the rest of my life?

Ive been smoking for 4 years..
hardly...if you don-t smoke for 20 years then you-ll have the same chances of cancer as a non-smoker
YES. Actually, you can be a smoker for 20 years then quit and notice improvement in your health. Your body can recover from cigarette smoke as long as you haven-t developed a smoking related disease such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, heart disease or lung cancer. Basically, the earlier you quit smoking the more you lessen your chances of developing these things. But quitting smoking can also increase your overall health no matter what age you are.
It is never too late to quit smoking, no matter how old you are. Your body begins to recover as soon as you put down that last cigarette.

As an 18 year old your body is about to reach prime condition. If you never touch another ciggie, your body and lungs will most likely completely recover within a few short months. Expect a mean cough though as your lungs will try to rid themselves of that nasty build up.

Quit now my friend, the longer you smoke the harder it becomes to put them down. Also as a smoker the older you are the harder it becomes for your body to recover.

Visit our site to join our inspirational 12 day e-course. You can also download our free book -36 Powerful Superfoods- to help fight weight gain and start mending damage caused by smoking.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
Yes, your lungs can completely repair themselves if you quit when you-re 18.

-How Quickly Do the Benefits of Quitting Start?-

* -Just 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your blood pressure and pulse rate drop to normal and the body temperature of your hands and feet increases to normal.-

* -A mere 8 hours after your last smoke, the carbon monoxide level decreases and the oxygen level in your blood increases to normal.-

* -Just 24 hours after your last cigarette, you substantially lessen your chances of having a heart attack.-

* -Two days after your last cigarette, you will notice that your ability to taste and smell is enhanced.-

* -Three days later, your breathing should be noticeably better because your lung capacity will be greater.-

* -Your circulation will improve and your lung functioning will increase up to 30% within two weeks to three months after quitting.-

* -Between one month and nine months, the cilia in your lungs will regenerate, allowing your body to clean your lungs and reduce infection.-

* -One year after quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker.-

* -Five years after quitting, your risk of stroke is reduced to that of a nonsmoker.-

* -Ten years after quitting, the lung cancer death rate is about half that of a continuing smokers. The risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney and pancreas decreases.-

* -Fifteen years after quitting, your risk of coronary heart disease is that of a nonsmokers.
Yes - Yes - Yes! Quitting smoking at ANY time is nothing but a PLUS for your health. Over a peiod of time, you will realize your endurance level has increased. You don-t -wheeze- when you exercise - your all around feeling of well being increases. Just think of the money you will save - not to mention helping your lungs breathe again. Just be careful - when you stop smoking - EVERYTHING tastes good to eat! Even stuff you never even liked before! You must get on a balanced diet. Slack off the strachy stuff - eat lots of boiled or steamed vegetables - especially leafy green vegetables. Try to avoid bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, cake, cookies, pie, brownies, sweet soda-s. Meats need to be baked, boiled or broiled - never fried. If you do not exercise now, start some type of exercise program, like sit ups, push ups, pull ups, skipping rope, skate boarding, briskly walking for 30 mintes twice each day to help mainain optimum health. Good luck.
i come from a large family of smokers, but (thankfully) they all quit before i was born! all of my grandparents, my aunts and uncles, etc. my mom is like, the only one in my family who never started (besides me, of course). what im saying is that the sooner you quit, the better. my grandma used to cough up black sh*t, once she stoped smoking it went away.
Yes it will absolutely make a difference! You will stop damaging your lungs and it hurts more in your body than your lungs! Plus you hurt other people when you smoke. It-s not fair to make nonsmokers breathe that crap. When you have a family you will want to keep them healthy and keep yourself healthy too.
of course it will make a difference.

i don-t know if your lungs with -re-heal- themselves, but stoping smoking is definitely good. especially since for every cigarette you smoke you lose about 5 minutes of your life
The sooner you quit the better. The more you smoke the more you will damage your lungs. While they won-t self-heal, you can stop them from getting worse by quitting!
just stop
while lungs dont repair themselves you could prevent further damage to them and lower your risk of getting cancer

No at age 18 your life is practically over so you might as well inhale burning tire fumes.
You lungs wont heal themselves but they wont get any worse, Every smoke you decide not to smoke is bettering your health
Of course you made a difference by quiting early in life.
Absolutely.

every cigarette takes 12 mins off your life so yes
da damage iz done, u got mad black lungz, son so i wuld juss give up n keep smokin

Are there any medications to help you quit smoking? Which one works best? -

Ask your doctor about Chantix. It helped my uncle quit, after numerous unsuccessful attempts with other medications. He quit after smoking for like 30 years!
i really don-t think there is a medication to help you quit I-ve tried the gum the patch and hypnotism nothing worked so far for me
Whatever medicine you use to help, you definitely need willpower. You can do it if you really want to do it. Make sure you do or you-ll just set yourself up for failure.
It depends on your country. Here in the UK we have 6 forms of Nictoine Replacement Therapy (Microtab, Lozenge, Gum, Patches, Inhalator and Nasal Spray) along with 2 medications that act on the Nicotine Receptors in the brain (helping the brain to not -want- the Nicotine anymore) - Zyban (Buproprion) and Champix (Verenicline). Champix is giving the most successful quit rates here - and DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PRESS STORIES ABOUT IT!!! The press need to sell stories and the best way is by scaring/scandalising people. People with underlying psychiatric illness should be carefully monitored when quitting as withdrawal can exacerbate the illness and perhaps lead to sucidal ideation if they are that way inclined, just like stress can! - That-s all you need to remember. Zyban has more contraindications and cautions than Champix. NRT can be very effective if used properly (in combination if necessary). The Nasal Spray gives the most similar -hit- to the cigarette, if the user can tolerate the initial first uses as it can be rather aversive until the user is tolerant - just as a cigarette is when first starting to smoke! Only go for standardised therapies as you-re more likely to succeed and get support from a professional - treatment + support means you-re 10x more likely to suceed.
Ask your doctor about Effexor trust me it works!
go to your doctor and they-ll tell you the options.
There are no known harmless but effective medications for it.So far, nicotine in the form of patches, chew ables or inhalers etc is the most effective as also logical aid available.Essentially,we have to condition the body gradually for lower and lower requirement of nicotine and finally free it from any dependence on it.This scientific practice also ensures the least chances of relapse as the craving is minimized at all stages and it-s finally extinguished. You may also look at Yahoo.com to join quit smoking group as they give valuable tips and information about smoking. Finally,I want to remind you that there are thousands of reasons, triggers ,compulsions and what not for smoking but only ONE to quit and that is, -YOU WANT TO DO IT and CAN DO IT-.All the best.
chantex it works
Zyban helped my husband but then switched to Wellbuturin.
Stop buying cigarettes and don-t hang out in smoky places. It sounds too simple, but that-s what worked for me and a few friends. You have to actually stop the car, wait in line, buy the cigarettes and a lighter all while mentally kicking your own a**. That-s too much work to screw up something I-ve been working on in my opinion
Champix in Australia and Chantix in the US (both the same) are supposed to have a success rate of 40%.

How can I get my friend to quit smoking? -

Like 1/4 of the whole 9th grade (divided to 7 classes) here smokes, which sickens me alot.
And my friend is one of them.
We-re both 15, and I-m uncomfortable seeing him smoke cigarettes.
I don-t see why.
They stink, they **** your lungs up, they cost, etc...

He smokes daily.
How can I get him to quit?
The best way I-ve ever heard is to find the total for how much a cigarette pack costs, multiply that by however many they have a day, then eventually find out how much they cost for a year. Then say you could have gone on a trip to ____ or bought ___ or whatever they seem to like. Another thing is to say that the average man lives to be (78) (not sure on the number, so check that out). Then say, subtract fourteen years from that. That-s how much shorter your life will be because you chose to smoke. Also, you can write a letter telling him how much he means to you and how you don-t want to lose him to lung cancer, emphysema, COPD complications, etc. Let him know that his smoking habits don-t only harm him; they harm all those around him. Let him know that you will be there every step of the way during the quitting process, if he chooses to take that path, and will be there to support him. To start it off, you might want to attach a letter with the most important things you can think of as to why you want him to quit to a box of candy cigarettes. That-s what I did with my aunt, and she appreciated it. These are just a few suggestions.

Nail biting pen to quit smoking? -

Has anyone ever tried one of those stop nail biting pens to quit smoking? Basically you would rub some of the solution onto the smoking end of the cigarette and it would taste so bad that you wouldn-t want to put it in your mouth. My roommate smokes and wants to quit. I thought this might be worth a try. Has anyone ever tried this method? If it works to stop biting nails it may help with smoking too. Are there products that could be used specifically for cigarettes? Thanks for any suggestions. Serious replies only please. No smart alecks.
I-ve heard of some people that would dip their cigs in hot sauce so that they wouldn-t want to touch their smokes. It is more of a mental thing and depending on the person, it will or won-t be effective. If you actually want a product to help quit, my roomate actually used a pill called Ciggarest. It seems to be working since he hasn-t touched a cig in about a few months now. They actually have free 30 day trials for the stuff and I think you just gotta pay 5 bucks for shipping. Hope I was able to help!
I don-t think this works better, my friend was addicted, and when he want to quit smoking he started chewing-gum but didn-t find any thing better, at last he employ a quit smoking program like Cig-Arette and now everybody can see the changes

What are ways to quit smoking and which way is the best? -

What are ways to quit smoking and which way is the best? -

Try putting having that first cigarette off until after you have had a shower. Then put it off until after a cup of coffee. Continue to do this until you realize you have postponed having one for a couple of hours. Justify if you can wait that long you can wait just a while longer, and so on and so forth. When I decided to quit I let other people know I was making this decision it helped me stick to it because I didn-t want to seem weak. I kept an unopened pack on hand just in case but never dug into it. I had to stay away from places where other people were smoking because the temptation was too intense. Other people have used a substitute like the patch, nicorette gum, sunflower seeds, and suckers. My dad and his wife quit together and used each other for moral support. Anyway you do it expect a few weeks of bitterness and stress. When it is all over you will be proud of yourself for sticking to it.
There many ways to quit smoking and some of them are as follows;

# Nicotine replacement Therapy (NRT)

* Nicotine Nasal Sprays
* Nicotine Patches
* Nicotine Gum
* E-Cigarette

# Natural Ways to stop smoking

* Herbs
* Cold turkey
* Hypnosis
* Acupuncture

Which one of those is best depends on each individual. It all depends on you. Factors to consider include side effects of each, your budget, pre-existing conditions e.g heart disease, diabetes, pregnancy and so on. It-s best to discuss with your doctor in the context of your individual circumstances.

The truth of the matter is that everyone who has ever quit smoking has used any one of those methods and they have worked or failed. So someone out there has either a positive or negative experience with each method making it difficult to put your fingers on the best one. It becomes a wild goose chase. Am sure you don-t want that. See your doctor armed with the information above.

my two cents: hope it helps:)

p/s i did some contributory writing to the source below.
Talk to your doctor. My pharmacy prescribes a lot of medications that greatly kill the withdrawal symptoms. Being a smoker myself and slowing having more and more trouble walking the line between addiction and social smoking, Welbutrin and chantix work well. The biggest problem is night terrors. People come back telling me of the horrifying dreams they had on the medication.

One thing that a friend of mind did was smoke marijuana when he wanted a cigarette. He would not get totally stoned off of it but he would catch enough of a buzz that he would not feel the withdrawal symptoms. Eventually he would just seem to smoke up at the times when he would normally have smoked. After that he would find other things to do to fill the gap of where he would be spending time smoking. It is not only about breaking the addiction, but breaking the habit that develops with it.
look up e-cig (not a seller, only a user) and about 1/2 million more are using.
the e-cig is a electronic cigarette that lets you smoke(vapor) flavored nicotene.

get your nicotene, lets you smoke, no stink/smell, no second hand smoke, no tar/carbon/chemicals/ect.

go to this forum and have your eyes opened at the other side, where smoking is good and safe and satisfing.

havent smoked a real cigarette in 2 months and not the slightlest interested in it. And enjoying my new e-cig much better.

this forum has all the info you need. it also has all the info you need to find the e-cig for you(does not promote any one company or product), all user reviews.
I smoked for 15 years and quit 1 year ago. So far, it sucks and I imagine it will always somewhat suck. I finished a pack and haven-t smoked another cigarette since. I quit cold turkey. No gum, no patch, no gadgets, no meds. I figured, if yer gonna quit, you might as well QUIT. To me, all of that crap is just a cop-out used by people who either don-t totally want to quit or don-t think they can on their own.
Image your Dr told you, if you smoke another cigarette then you will die tomorrow. Now every time you feel the urge, just think on that.
the patches!
those helped me..
if you wear one then u cant smoke or else ur likely to get a heart attack..
that just scared me so i wore them for about 2 months

Take Chantix and then after one week put the smokes down.If you really want to quit after you do that and going to a bar with other smokers bother you then you will not go to the bar.
duh, go to a non-smoking bar..
Change your venue, if you want to go to a bar at all. As in, go to a non-smoking bar. Otherwise there will be triggers to smoke all around you, and you probably won-t be able to resist the urge.

Good luck!
don-t go to the bar
Quit going to a bar where they allow smoking, or of corse, quit going to the bar at all.
Or- try and rise above it if you choose to go around other smokers-
Have WILL POWER !

Good luck :D
There is a new Presciption on the market called Chantix Ask your Doc about it. I have smoked about 1-2 packs aday for about 30 years. I started taking Chantix now I am down to maybe a pack a week
. I don-t want to smoke but I do it out of habit now. will be down to 0 cigs before long. This med REALLY works.

Please include how long and how much you smoked prior to quitting. Also, how many times did you try to quit before you were successful?
I was a die-hard smoker for 20+ years.... I quit smoking almost a year ago (last October) and here is what I did. When I decided to quit- I just plain old quit. No having a puff or one on a bad day.... I started out using the patch and it was too heavy for me. So after that I did it on my own. I tell ya- I bitched and moaned.... I talked about it and complained.... I whined and whined.... but I just didn-t smoke. I allowed myself to openly complain. In fact i talked about it for days and days... I just DIDN-T smoke. Since i allowed myself to complain, I let that be the outlet for my desire. It is also a proven fact that someone who has tried to quit in the past has a higher chance of quitting every time they try to quit. So, if this is your first time trying to quit, chances are you will start up again. If this is your 50th time trying to quit, you may be successful this time....
Just be easy on yourself. It-s hard to quit. Just be strong and make it happen for yourself. Quitting smoking is one of the best things i ever did for myself. Honestly, I NEVER think about it anymore. No more- GOD I NEED A CIGARETTE! The thought never ever crosses my mind anymore. It is hard but SOOOOOOOOO worth it. You-ll feel so proud of yourself. Just know that once you actually quit smoking and put it behind you - you can then accomplish anything you set your mind to.
the only way to quit smoking is to tell ur that u are not gonna smoke and belive in ur self
I smoked from the time I was 12 until I was 24. My heaviest was in college and right after, when I was up to 1-1/2 packs a day.

To quit, I enrolled in a cessation program offered by my employer. It involved -aversion therapy-. This was a program wherein I was placed in a closet papered with photos of the adverse effects of smoking (pictures of cancerous lungs, etc), and told to smoke as many cigarettes as I could in a 5 minute period. Each puff of the cigarette delivered a small but unpleasant shock to my finger tip. This process continued for 5 days straight.

I don-t know if it was the therapy that succeeded, or the pressure from my coworkers. This was back in the early 80s, when it was perfectly acceptable to light up at your desk. My coworkers were very happy when I quit!!
I smoked for 50 years. I tried to quit about 4 times. I smoked 2 packs a day and sometimes more.
I was told of a new drug that helps with quitting.
I asked my Dr for a prescription and The drug is called Chantix. You take one pill each morning for the first week and you also keep smoking during that week. The second week you take two pills and no smoking. You continue this for 3 months, and during that time you renew the prescription two more times. It cost me $120.00 3 times. and saved me 2,064 since I stopped 26 weeks a go. If you have any questions, email me.
Nort
Pot: It took about 5 years. Use to spend about $50 a week, and that was enough to roll 12 nice doobies. I still miss it sometimes. My buddies always want to come over and -burn one-, but I-ve got a job and responsibilities that keep me sober. Cigarettes have been an on and off struggle that I-ve won. It took me 6 attempts to finally quit. Use to smoke about 1/2 a pack to 3/4 of a pack daily. I had to gradually cut down, allowing myself one fewer each day. After that it-s a matter of not buying them anymore, staying away from the -smokers- crowd, and keeping myself busy.
The easy way - - I never started.
I smoked for over 30 years, and I quit in one hour by being hypmotized. It was $500 well spent
I smoked from 16-23. I-m 24 now. The easiest way for me was to mentally associate the smoking -habit- it self as really negative. At the time I couldn-t afford the patch or orther expensive modes of therapy so I just chewed a lot of gum and let myself have thoughts of smoking. When you supress them that is when they are the worst, because then it becomes taboo. Allow urself to morn the loss mentally and physically and think about smoking, but don-t acutally do it! Good luck! Its all a mental thing!
I am quitting tomorrow. I-ll use the new pill that-s out, but it-s like $100, or the patch. I quite before 10 years ago and started back up 7 years ago. Drat! It-s not easy, but just know that the cravings only last for a few minutes. We can get through a few minutes. Then the cravings become further and further apart until they are pretty much gone. The longer you have smoked the harder it is to give it up because it becomes a part of you. We have to learn to let it go and not stress about it. Just relax and deal with one craving at a time and keep thinking into the future.
My mom was a smoker, she started when she was 15 so about 22 years ago and she hasn-t smoked for about 10 years now. She used the patch and that was it for her. She tried a few other times cold turkey but of course that didn-t work for her. Now days there are more things then my mom had like the gum or there is a pill too. Good Luck and hang it there, if you start again try to quit again!!

She could talk to her doctor and try to go on Chantix it works well for a lot of people. I quit 3 months ago by being hypnotized. But trust me she will not quit unless she really wants too. It is very hard and she will need a lot of support. All you can do is support her when she decides to quit she is the only one who can make that decision. My mother had part of her lung removed due to lung cancer and she is still smoking. All you can do is support you mom in what ever decision she makes. I know you don-t want to loose your mom young no one does. Good luck to you and your mom.
She simply is not ready to quit yet and you can-t force her. Just talk to her about what smoking does to her body, show her vids online, print out stuff and stick it on the fridge. Educate yourself first on side effects of smoking as well as quitting and then use this approach.

People quit because they want to quit. Knowledge is power and if you give her knowledge she will quit.

peace
Your mother knows the ins and outs and it-s up to her to make the decision, you can-t do it for her and harping on it doesn-t help.Trust me.

How long after I quit smoking can nicotine be detected in my system ? Trying to donate kidney and must be neg.? -

I am trying to donate a kidney but I can-t go get tested -till I-m sure I will test negative for nicotine , because they will not let me donate if I test positive . I have not had a cigarette in 10 days . Will I test positive ?
I think it depends on how many years you have smoked and how many per day.
Why don-t you go test yourself with a different company (or doctor) and when the nicotine is gone, go for the kidney donating.

Good luck.

PS. I have a cigarette for you with no nicotine.

How can i get my daughter who is pregnant to quit smoking cigarettes? -

How can i get my daughter who is pregnant to quit smoking cigarettes? -

She is 21 and not living with me.
I recommend cutting down gradually until your quit date. I did this. I cut down to half a pack. I did this for three months. I smoked by the puff, not by the cigarette. I took only the amount of nicotine that was necessary to satisfy my urge to smoke and put the rest of the cigarette out.

After doing this for three months I quit cold turkey.

Now I-m eating more candy to distract me but its been 8 months. I have urges but they don-t last more than a second or two. If they-re lasting more than that then you-re concentrating on the cigarette. Don-t do it. Concentrate on something else.
The one thing that made it possible for me to quit smoking was that I didn-t want to do any damage to my new husband. It seems a baby would be an even bigger motivation.

Try to do some research (Google it) to find info about how harmful it is to a fetus (and to a newborn once it comes out, too). Then give it to her to read. Maybe some organization could send you pamphets or something about it, too.
I think it would help if you make her aware of the advantages of quitting:

http://www.knowabouthealth.com/cigarette…

This will keep you and her motivated throughout. My friend was chain smoker and he quit. He use to say, just be mentally strong and you can do it. Here are some tips that helped him:

This is something that makes me really angry. Perhaps you can present the health implications that smoking has to a baby, make it as hard hitting as possible.

I quit smoking, and I want something else...? -

I only smoked a cigarette or 2 per day, and it was for depression and concentration. I had to quit because I got a cold and had some really bad coughing that wouldn-t go away. But I was really happy smoking. It really helped me when I needed to study or felt down in the dumps or anxious. Is there anyone who can relate, and is there anything that can be a reasonable substitute?
I-ve been trying to quit smoking for the past couple of years...When I-ve quit in the past I got some serious depression symptoms. This time around I started a basic exercise program and it has helped me a lot. I-m not someone who likes exercise (in fact, I rather dislike it) but the results are so positive that I force myself to do it.

The first thing you need to do though is educate yourself about smoking. The more you learn about addiction the more you will realize that smoking doesn-t make you happy or less anxious. Eventually you will start to dislike your smoking habit and this is a great motivator to stay quit. From that point you just have to struggle through the ups-and-downs of quitting (this is where the exercise is very helpful) and just have faith that you will feel better in time....And you will - I quit 6 months ago and I feel 150% healthier and less anxious (nicotine is a stimulant).
Good Luck :)
Hi, Curtis76!

I felt the same way when I tried quitting until I found something that worked. It changed my thinking about cigarettes and helped me realize that I don-t need them, I never did. It was truly a life-changing method and I highly recommend it to anyone who really want to quit and end their addiction once and for all.

You can read more about what has helped me here:

Try it. It will work!
my mom and dad had been smoking for about 18 or more years and they stopped about two years ago. while they were in the process of stopping, junk food became a close second but of course it causes weight gain so they ate sun flower seeds when they got the craving for a cigarette. they ate them constantly for a few weeks and they never craved for a cig again.

the end....lol

p.s.....you can substitute the sun flower seeds with unbuttered popcorn or your favorite low fat snack...works like a charm...good luck!
When I quit, I carefully removed the tobacco from the paper, and let the filter hang out of my mouth for several days. I worked for me.
Well I quit smoking after I saw this video, I hope this help you! there-s nothing good about smoking

For those that are doing it also.. best of luck.

Good for you. I hate it when people smoke. If you live in Illinois, it-s going to be hard to smoke anyway since the new law went into effect today.
I don-t smoke, but good for you.
Wow! I wish you good luck!
Nope. (As I light up another cigar.)

What a better way to quit smoking? -

i-ve been cutting down a cigarettes these days. normally it was a pack or almost a pack a day and now its like a pack in two or 3 days. but when i try not to smoke for the whole day i just get so dam cranky and when i smoke again i feel normal. without it i-m just being a btch to everyone and just bipolar to the max. any suggestions? nothing like nicotine patch or something
You are not able to quit smoking because you are not ready. You don-t have enough of a reason to do it. You have to be stubborn with yourself and decide that the cigarette and nicotine have no more control rights over you and your body. When you are ready, you will succeed. Good luck!
My father was a smoker for almost 22 years before he quit and when he did he would always have a piece of butter scotch candy where his cigarettes would usually be so every time he had a urge to reach for a cigarette he would get a piece of candy it didn-t work every time but after time he started to lose the craving for a cigarette and just need something to take his mind of the craving and butter scotch worked for him I-ve also heard of people using the candy cigarettes. It couldn-t hurt to try hope it works for you.
You MUST read this! I read it 4 days ago, and havent smoked since! I am 29 and have smoked since the 7th grade. It changed my life. Here is the link... it is a comic type book, and free to read online. It is the fourth book on the page I am linking you to. Good luck!

How long after trying to quit smoking does it get easier It has been 5 days? -

I found the patches and gum makes it harder in the longrun any other suggestions.
nicotine is trying to control you to take away that which you love, LIFE , I use to picture cigarettes like a prison ball and chain b/c that what I was, chained to them; chained to making someone else rich, the cigarette company, the government for taxes, the doctors, hospitals and xray techs; think of it as a pardon for freedom , freedom to spend your money as you choose, freedom to not have to smoke butts out of an ashtray if you are low; freedom not to have to make a detour to buy them; freedom not to have to leave a function or party to stand outside and smoke them; they are controlling you and your life and your actions; freedom feels much better; I quit 21 years ago - YOU CAN DO THIS : DON-T GIVE IN ; the people who manufacture them aren-t smoking them ; they have your money, your life, your time etc; Stay strong and then treat yourself to a gift with all the money that you are saving!!!! not to mention your life, someday you may need those extra minutes , save for a rainy day; you can kick this ! you have too!!!
It does get easier the longer you go.
You don-t NEED a smoke now you just want one.
Good luck.
Since quitting is such an individual experience, it will be hard for any of us to give you the right answer, but we can share our experiences.

I made a promise to my young daughter on Valentines Day in 1997 that I would quit smoking that year. She was thrilled and waited patiently. On August 4, that year, I woke up and had one cigarette left in my pack. I looked at it and decided, -today-!

I waited to smoke that cigarette until I had time in my day to really basque in it. I started a mission that morning to de-smoke my house. All ashtrays were gone, linens washed, carpets cleaned... total spring cleaning to the nth degree. I didn-t want to smell another cigarette. I bought plug in airfresheners, sometimes two in a room. I started a project to wash or have dry cleaned every piece of clothes in the house. The only thing I couldn-t desmoke was my ex-husband, who to this day, is still a smoker. I took a break around 3 that afternoon and savored my last cigarette, but I really didn-t enjoy it. I created such a distaste for it in my mind, that it was nearly impossible. After that, I showered and put on fresh clothes.

Every day for two weeks, around mid afternoon, 3:00, which ironically enough was when my ex would come home, I would crave a cigarette. Instead of fighting it, I would succumb to smoke one of my ex-s cigarettes, which I had always hated the taste of. As the days went by, I would smoke less and less of that cigarette, finally just lighting it and handing it to him, after about two weeks. During that two weeks, I continued my mission to desmoke my house and car and asked my ex to honor his daughter and I by not smoking in the house. Of course, we both would have preferred that he quit, but it wasn-t in the cards.

I had smoked for 16 years. Everyone is different and your experience will be tough... but honor yourself, and hang in there! It is soooo worth it!
be a lot longer than 5 days but its worth it, good luck
when u start to feel healthier u will not crave the cigs anymore, u done great so far, keep it goin
It don-t get easier. The longest I ever made it was 6 weeks.
I used suckers, and hard candy.
5 days is a good start. You should be pretty well over the hump now. I think doctors are prescribing an anti-depressant, Wellbutrin for smokers, as well. Check with your physician. Good luck.
I found that it took about 10/14 days before the cravings ceased. You have to will yourself to want to give them up. Those patches are a waste of money. Use your will power.
