How do you refrain from gaining weight while trying to quit smoking? -

exercise more. Ask your doctor - they can help you develop a customized exercise program.
I can relate to this..... I wanted to quit smoking but I was TERRIFIED I would gain weight...So I did some research and according to the -experts- the metabolic changes should only account for an average of 3 pounds or so if you do not change any other habits....like adding a bunch of crap to your diet to compensate for the habit.... I can-t quote you the site, but here is the good news....I probably did gain 2 pounds, but I am MUCH healthier and 2 pounds really is an acceptable trade-off.... It-s been 4 years since I quit! Good Luck to you!!!!
Don-t put food in your mouth whenever you want to smoke.
I taught a smoking cessation seminar for six years. I provided alternatives to the cigs other than food. I also told folks, based on very reliable investigation, that only about thirty percent of people who quit smoking gain weight during the process, and half of those lose the excess weight within a year.

To put another perspective on it - you-d have to gain a hundred pounds to come close to offsetting the benefits of quitting. So: talk to your doctor and then contact the American Lung Association about smoking cessation seminars in your area.
Well fasting is a good way to stop smoking and not gain weight. It helps to get the cigarette toxins out faster. If that is too much then click on the home paging on losing weight. By eating the right foods, you can eat as much as you want and not gain weight.

Congratulations for trying. They put over 100 additives in the cigarettes to make it almost impossible to stop smoking.

Does anyone have information on using lasers or laser therapy to quit smoking? -

I need more info before I invest $350 US to try it. I have tried everything I know of w/o success ($BIG US) including the latest script (chantix).
i have used lasor theropy, and it worked for me. i had been smoking over fourty years and like you i,ve tried many ways to quit, and the lasor theropy is the only success i,ve had.. mind you my wife had the lasor on the same day as me, and it didn,t help her in the least. so i think you have to be mentally prepaired to quit, and if you don,t feel that. you will be wasting your money. you can do it if you are ready to quit.. good luck and keep trying. MR C
I have not heard of laser therapy for smoking but if it works please let us know. I have tried everything also with no success.

Is it better to quit smoking cigarettes when you are sick or well? -

i have a bad cough from a cold and i have reduced the amount that i smoke because of that but i plan to quit smoking but now im worried about adding smokers cough to my already bad cough from a cold and wonder if maybe i should just wait till im well. im sure this sounds stupid ...........
yes even if you7 are well and smoke quit!
Quit while your sick forever. It will only make you sicker. It lowers your immune system.
um...yes that does sound stupid
Interesting you should ask this. I just quit smoking a little more than a month ago (Memorial Day weekend) when I missed a few BBQs due to having a bad case of the flu. I finally decided that I was tired of hacking up all that phlegm, and enough was enough.

I-m not craving cigarettes much these days, but the rare times I do have a craving, all I have to do is to recall the last time I smoked, and how awful I felt with that bronchial stuff going on with my flu. It-s enough to turn off that craving for good.
You-ve already cut down. You might as well take that as an initiative to quit.
just quit!! better when u feel bad as you-re less inclined to smoke when you have the cold anyway. Just make sure you do, it-s the best thing you-ll do - certainly money wise!
when youre sick you will notice how much better you feel in a shorter amount of time.. when youre better youre more likely to go back to smoking. ..... either way you should just quit... good luck

I started smoking when I was 14. I quit smoking 3 months ago, and I-m currently 23. If you haven-t quit smoking, do you plan on doing so? Why or why not?
Started at 18, I-m 38 now, quit smoking yesterday.

NOT HAPPY.
Thank you :-) So far I have made it - no smoking, and two trips to the store without buying cigarettes (that was so hard) - Thanks again!

hello, i use snuff,a filthy habbit i confess an diaprove of using tobacco but i have never had any sugsess quiting nicotene patches might as well be surgical tape, the tablets seem to me to be sugar pills. nothing works. when i was a child, my dads hands were in sutch bad shape healthwise he could not roal cigarettes and i roaled them for him. he permited me to smoke even back then. when you try to stop and brag about will power, try using it somewtime when you have dyreah and see how well it works and let me know how sugsessful you are. i will never quit because i can not and realy wish i could, alsoi wish i had never smokes a single puff. if you realy did quit, congratulations! i wish i could
started 3 months ago. not planning on quitting anytime soon. i-m in my early 30-s.
perhaps you should have thought ahead when you were 14. but if you hit the 3 month hump, im sure you can make it. if not, be ready for a premature grave. =P
I was 14 also. I quit 2 years ago because it started to make me feel sick everytime I lit up. I-m 27 now. I picked it back up last year though for about 2 months. But then I quit again because I found out I was pregnant. Now I refuse to smoke and I don-t let anyone do it around me or my son. I am a very obnoxious reformed smoker. It-s a truly disgusting habit.
I started regularly smoking when I was 17 and quit right before my 24th birthday. It has been almost 4 years since I quit, although I will have an occasional smoke if I am drinking.
emm.. i started smoking a year ago. BECAUSE of my f*** friends..like toge, ken, jedink, etc. But, now i try to quit. But unfortunately i CAN-T!!

so now i just can starring at the ceiling and regret myself that i had been so damn stupid to follow toge, especially.
Quit 4 years ago - smoked for about 13 years. It took a couple tries before I finally quit. It was so hard, but definitely worth it.
I started at 20 and havent yet quit at 30 .. may be i will soon ...
I started smoking at 16, my friends were doing it and I followed suit.

I quit when I was 22, thanks to an old boyfriend who hated cigarette smoke.

I will very rarley have a -puff- off a cigarette if I-ve been drinking. It just makes me realize that it really doesn-t taste that good.
I started smoking when I was 8 years old. Tried quitting, then quit trying to quit. 28 now. Probably die of lung cancer or something right shortly. Too hard to quit. I-d rather detox from Heroin than smokes, it-s easier.
I started smoking when I was 24. Now 31. Quit a few times on and off. Off when I don-t work. On when I do work. Main reason why I want to quit permanently is because of my nephew. He hates it when I smoke. For me that-s good enough reason as any to do so. Can-t do it later, rather do it now.
I started when I was 12 years old and quit 4 years ago I am 26 now. I tried for a long time but one day just got sick of it and I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo… glad :)

It is worth your health to quit. and it wasn-t that hard the first few months were the hardest and I don-t miss it at all

Has anyone tried Wellbutrin to quit smoking? -

My husband-s dr. gave him the RX, but he is really worried about it. He-s never taken an anti-depressant, and he-s afraid he-ll become a different person. What can he expect, and will it really help him to quit?
I took it for a few years with no effect really , it didn-t help me quit smoking . I hope it helps your husband quit , the smoking ruined my lungs nearly completely . I think cold turkey works best but it-s incredibly difficult . Good luck to him I hope he can quit , Tell him to remind himself that no one has ever died from stopping smoking .
Yes it does help very well,i was on it and i got bad headaches and felt really alive but couldnt sleep.I stoped taking it because of the headaches
I took Zyban, which I-m told is the same. Later, I had a doc give me Prozac . Neither caused a personality change. If he wants to quit and will follow the program it will work for him.

Prozac is prescribed to combat Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, which is why many of us smoke.
My doctor gave it to me to help quit smoking but he said the only reason he gave it to me is because my insurance does not pay for the patch or other remedies to quit. He said it would help calm my nerves while trying to stop. I took it for a while but it did nothing to stop me from smoking. As a matter of fact it didn-t do anything at all.
wellbutrin is mainly prescribed as an anti-depressant, not quitting smoking, however, unless your husband is depressed, i would suggest he try another method.....why take a medication for one thing when his issue is smoking
You are more restless, don-t get as much sleep and it helps cut the craving. But the way I finally quit was to just stop buying and bumming them.
I tried it and all it did was make me shake, It didn-t help me stop smoking..
yes and it didnt work for me
just gave me bad headches
and cotton mouth
didn-t help with my smoking, and basically just made me tired and sluggish for about three weeks.....asked my doc to take me off it. Do not try to just to stop taking it. i turned into a maniac.
My sister and dad tried it, both without success. Patches and gum worked much better. Personally I would not try it, if he really wants to quit he can do it without Wellbutrin and its side effects. (which are numerous)
I was on it for 2 weeks and I couldn-t take it any more, it drove me nuts! One minute I was foggy, the next I would have a temper tantrum over any little thing or crying over nothing. The moods were so drastic and I was nausious most of the time. It made me smoke more since I was all over the place with my temperment. I-ve taken other antidepression meds but this was the worse. If your husband acts different it-s not his fault it-s the Wellbutrin talking.

A question for all you people whove quit smoking? -

what medication or treatment worked the best for you and how many tries did it take you to quit?
I tried more times than I remember, on the final go I used Nicorette patches, the big help was being away from smokers, at home and work. Never ever think you can have just one, even in a years time.
Good motivation helps, eg health, mine was seeing a grandson of 3 pretending to smoke like me.
do it cold turkey , just quit smoking

How will my body react when I quit smoking cold turkey? -

My smoking is pretty bad. I started in 2004 @ age 19 as a social smoker, now I-m hitting 2 packs a day.

When I quit I want to go to sleep for 8-9 hours so that my body will have a head start on getting it out of my system. BUT, I dread how my body will react. Any idea of what it-ll be like?
The bad feeling and urges will lessen over a period of days. A lot of people chew nicotine gum or wear a nicotine patch to help lessen the problem. If you don-t want to do that, you can chew regular gum and just try to work through the urge to smoke. It will not be very pleasant but a lot of people manage it, so good luck. You will be happy that you quit later on.
It-s a great thing that you-re trying to quit. To be honest you will feel not so great at first, but in the long run you will feel a lot worse if you keep smoking. To ease the quiting cold turkey try the patches or gum. A lot of people find something to focus on when they want to quit and distract their body, like chewing straws, or eating lollipops, etc. Just don-t forget, however bad it gets, you-ll be better off in the end after quiting.
The first two weeks will most likely be hell for you. Fatigue, lack of concentration, ect are all part of it. Give it your all, I am proud of ya!
When smokers try to cut back or quit, the lack of nicotine leads to withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal is both physical and mental. Physically, the body reacts to the absence of nicotine. Mentally, the smoker is faced with giving up a habit, which calls for a major change in behavior. Both must be addressed in order for the quitting process to work.

If a person has smoked regularly for a few weeks or longer and suddenly stops using tobacco or greatly reduces the amount smoked, they will have withdrawal symptoms. Symptoms usually start within a few hours of the last cigarette and peak about 2 to 3 days later. Withdrawal symptoms can last for a few days to up to several weeks.

Withdrawal symptoms can include any of the following:

* dizziness (which may only last 1-2 days after quitting)
* depression
* feelings of frustration, impatience, and anger
* anxiety
* irritability
* sleep disturbances, including having trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, and having bad dreams or even nightmares
* trouble concentrating
* restlessness
* headaches
* tiredness
* increased appetite

These symptoms can lead the smoker to start smoking cigarettes again to boost blood levels of nicotine back to a level where there are no symptoms.

Smoking also makes your body get rid of certain drugs faster than usual. When you quit smoking, it changes the way your body handles these medicines. Ask your doctor if any medicines you take regularly need to be checked or changed after you quit.
You should fine. I did it when I got pregnant with both of my children. You will be a little more edgy. Maybe have a little more road rage. Just stay busy, and chew gum or twirler-s. I drank a lot of water. Best of luck to you.

How can I convince my fianceacute; to quit smoking? -

He respects my choice not to smoke and I understand that I can-t make him do something he isn-t ready to do, but how can I explain to him how much I hate the smell and having to breathe the second-hand smoke without sounding accusatory or nagging? We want to start a family but I don-t want my children exposed to that and I would prefer that he stick around to grow old with me.
explain to him that you dont want to sound nagging and that you love him and respect his decision, but you would be eternally gratefull if hed stop smokin. Your line -I would prefer that he stick around to grow old with me.- would do it for me. Alot of love there. Maybe it will do it for him too. Good luck.
Secondhand smoke is just as bad, if not worse than actually smoking the cigarette. Tell him his smoking is not only affecting his health, but your health. You could get lung cancer or have a stroke from his smoking habit. If he loves you, that will make him think. Offer to help him quit and work together to find a method that works. This is the 21st century, smoking is no longer cool.
Why take away the only manly thing he has going for him. 2nd hand smoke is an old wives tale. The tobacco industries the world over, make more money combined than doctors do. If it was bad why was smoking created and developed? If he quits smoking, he might switch to alcohol or drugs. Those two are worse than smoking.
Know what you mean. My fiance- has smoked forever and I have asked him when he is going to quite. We have a 7 month old little girl and I refuse to let him take her in his truck because of the smell! I guess the answer is that they have to be ready to quite. I think we are going to try a treatment at a chiropractors office. SOme use acupunture but this is a shock treatment. I know it sounds awful but it is just little spots like on the ear that they do. The success rate is about 85% and usually only requires one 99.00 dollar treatment. Lot less then what is spent on the cigs. Anyway just be patient and hopefully he will want to quite on his own free will. Best of luck, been there and still doing it!
He has to want to do it for HIMSELF over and above wanting to do it for anyone else.

Start with how it will help HIM if he quit. Sperm count will go up, stamina will go up, ability to breathe after climbing stairs will come back.

Then tell him about how it will benefit your relationship and your future children.

Then tell him how you feel about the stench, the health worries, the PASSIVE SMOKING you are being subjected to, etc.

Then widen it up further by telling him how his children will want him around to learn from him what is right and wrong. Does he want his kids growing up thinking that smoking is good, because their Dad does it - and Dads are heroes to their kids.

Talk to a counsellor or doctor about it and see what they suggest too. They could provide you with lots of statistics and stuff to back your -feelings- up with.

PS Zorro, please don-t give misleading and incorrect advice.
Tell him you love him too much to see him ruin his health. Hypnotherapy works well, if he ever decides to quit.
use something for substitute when hes on the nerves to smoke. let him know that this is ultimately poisoning both of you...
talk to him, and make him understand that his smoking is affecting you. make compromises, like he could smoke, but has to smoke outside and things like that.
Tell-em do take a class, 89% of the people that take the smokin class quit smokin with in 30 days. U must quit smokin for at least 10 days, during those 10 days and the rest of the 20, u take this medication, that basically tells yer body that, -smokin is badd- the next time u try to smoke, is gonna taste like strate booty, and you-ll never wanna smoke again. Ask your docyor about it, if he can agree that its badd, and can agree that he wants to quit, then yall should be fine
Just tell him about all the diseases he could get from smoking...
well, told him if he never stop u will smoke too... i know and we know that guys dont want there lover also smoke. and also if he smoke again drag his cigarette and pump it... and look what he did...
Tell him how much you love him. And that you want him to live a long life, and not die from getting cancer of smoking. Tell him you dont want your children getting second hand smoke, and tell him that you dont want your children to be exposed to that.
First tell him how you feel about him smoking and how bad is the effect for second hand smokers... Also, if he wants children he better lay off those cigs -coz for sure that habit reduces the number of healthy spermies he can produce and also if that doesn-t work post a huge poster of an unhealthy lungs of smoker that for sure will scare the hell out of people and him too in the process...
Id refuse to kiss him again until he quit...but that might just be me lol
slap him!! no just do a reward system....

What % of smokers Actally quit smoking? -

I was just wandering if any1 knew roughly the percentage of smokers who are actually able to quit?
I don-t know the percentage - perhaps specifiying where in the world, you are interested in , might help.

But I know the golden rule with quitting anything - you can fail 1,000 times, but you only need to succeed ONCE.
All of them! Not many dead people smoke, except those who are cremated!
16%, just a guess.
100% Just remember this quote It is very easy to stop smoking coz I stopped it so many times.
20% after about a month, only 5% after one year ;(..it is as addictive as cocaine

Ways to help my mom quit smoking? -

Are there any creative ways instead of patchs or gum, because i highly doubt they would work, i-ve tried to start a plan to help my mom quit by giving her cigarettes twice a day but i don- think this is working out. Please help? thanks.
Like many others I smoked when I was young but managed to kick the habit before I was totally hooked, I was lucky and suffered no damage to my health. But for a close friend it was different, even though she was only a moderate smoker, her health was being seriously affected and getting worse with time. Now this is where I really sympathize with smokers. She like many smokers knew the dangers and had genuinely tried many different ways to quit smoking. She tried patches, hypnosis and read several books on the subject of quitting, nothing had worked. She always ended back at square one, knowing she needed to quit, but how, nothing had a lasting effect. That was until she tried Smoke Deter.

So why am I telling this, because I played a small part in her success. You see I heard about Smoke Deter through my son, his best mate had quit smoking using Smoke Deter and I convinced my friend to try it. She was very skeptical, but I was so concerned about her health that I said that if it didn-t work I would pay for it, so she had nothing to lose and that convinced her. That was a year and five months ago, it worked and she is no longer a smoker, she has never has the urge to smoke since she quit using Smoke Deter, that-s a fact and it-s the only product she tried that she-s happy to tell others about.

Smoke Deter is an herbal based liquid oral spray that is used 3 times a day, this is also supplemented with herbal pills which when combined is very effective at reducing your nicotine cravings. How quickly it works depends on the extent of your habit, it can work as quickly as 2 weeks or may take 3 months, regardless of the time, your health is worth the effort to kick your smoking habit.

It-s worth noting that Smoke Deter is safe, natural and has no known side effect and no known drug interactions. It-s highly rated on many stop-smoking product review sites, often with genuine testimonials from people that have also kicked the smoking habit using it. So I am not the only one that knows Smoke Deter gets the desired result.

Smoke Deter also offers a lifetime free membership support program, so you are never on your own, help is available 24 hours a day if you feel the need, like if your resolve is weakening. There is also a free Stop Smoking Relaxation Audio MP3 available, it might not be for everybody but my friend said it was definitely a help to her, it changed the way she thought about smoking. That-s what I like about Smoke Deter it changes your whole attitude to smoking, it works on your mind as well as your body. Unfortunately I-ve seen the damage smoking has done within my own family and also in my circle of friends, consequently I-m fully aware just how hard it is to stop smoking without some kind of help. I-ve seen first hand how Smoke Deter helped my friend quit smoking and so it-s not surprising she can-t say enough about it. So if this article brings Smoke Deter to your attention and as a result helps you kick the smoking habit, then for me writing about it has been worthwhile.

So if you-ve been wondering if these quit smoking products work, well I guess some do and some don-t, but one that has my recommendation is Smoke Deter, I-ve personally seen it work when other methods failed. I-m happy to pass that information on so that others looking for a safe natural way to quit can try Smoke Deter if they wish.

If you would like more helpful information on Smoke Deter or other free quit smoking information, you may like to visit the source link below - It seems to confirm some of my comments and is dedicated to helping smokers improve their health, fitness and beat the smoking habit.
the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

How long do cravings last when you quit smoking? Why are cravings stronger, the longer youve stopped smoking? -

How long do cravings last when you quit smoking? Why are cravings stronger, the longer youve stopped smoking? -

I gave up two years ago, without any patches or gum. The initial cravings lasted for about two weeks and then I suffered again at around six weeks for a few days. Since then I have never looked back. Giving up was one of the best things I ever did.
I quit smoking in March 1999 and have not had one since. My daughter and son still smoke and it does not bother me, I had a heart attack and after what i went thru, i have never ever wanted one. It bothered me when i first quit because my mother in law was smoking. And I said to my husband that either she goes or i do. Well of all things she quit for me. So i chew gum alot, but that is because i get a dry mouth and that helps. If you ever had to go thru heart operation and wake up to all the stuff down your throat. And how you felt for about that and wanting to be with family, that will stop you. And if your family and friends love you enough, they won-t smoke around you until you can handle being around it. Wish you all the luck and will pray for you to quit. Just try and keep yourself business.
why in the world do you even get craving for them?!?! They are not nice things
im sad to say that cravings can still hit you years after you quit. but the good news is that they do diminish in time, and if you are in the UK the smoking ban due this summer should help u out no end!
In my experience, I only ever had the occasionally craving. I found the hardest time to be the first week, and also the thirteenth week.

I have the occasional craving now, but they are so few and far between that they don-t bother me. They are bad at the time, but you just have to remind yourself that it is just a craving and will pass. Sometimes it can be years before the cravings stop.
The first 30 days are the hardest

I quit a 5pack a day habit Still the first 30 days was the worst for me
The nicotine in tobacco is a very strong drug, so you get withdrawl symtoms ,just like any other type of drug, your body is craving the nicotine, this last up to 2/3 weeks. When your body stops craving, stopping smoking is easy.
The best way to stave off cravings is to keep your hands busy, Take up a hobby that involves using your hands constantly
Like crocheting, knitting some type of craft

Going to places where no-one smokes
the cravings in your head [mental] can last awhile ,the physical
caving ,nicotine is out of your body in less than 24 hours it all mental after that. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They do get less with time I promise you. Addiction to cigarettes has 2 parts, physical and mental. The physical withdrawal only lasts a couple of days. However nicotine sets up complex brain pathways which last for years. They can also be reactivated very quickly, thus a single cigarette can undo months of work.

Statistically the chances of people taking up the weed once more tail off until they reach their lowest ebb after about 2 years.

Where can I buy fake cigarettes that you actually smoke to help quit smoking? -

I-ve been smoking heavily for several years now and I-m looking for various methods to quit smoking. I think my biggest problem isn-t the nic fits, it-s the physical addiction.

I-m looking for some sort of fake cigarette that you light, and smoke, but contains no nicotine. Best thing I-ve come up with so far is to buy the fake marijuana substitutes and roll that as a cigarette.
You might try switching to a pipe. Yeah, I know that-s still smoking but you don-t inhale pipe smoke. I went from 4 packs a day down to about 2 cigarettes a day with a pipe. Quitting smoking a pipe is far easier than cigarettes, though I have no intention of quitting my pipe since I-ve been doing it for more than thirty years and still enjoy the heck out of it. Early on it got to the point that cigarettes tasted nasty to me after having real tobacco.

I still smoke a cigarette or two because there are places I just can-t smoke my pipe. Unlike cigarette smokers, most pipe smokers have to be taught how to do it right or they give up early and go back to cigarettes.
Electronic Smokeless Cigarette is a device that simulates the functions of a cigarette, excluding the harmful chemicals such as tar, carbon monoxide, arsenic found in traditional cigarettes. The device uses a small replaceable cartridge filled with propylene glycol and a small dose of nicotine, powered by a rechargeable battery. When the user inhales on the device, the air flow is detected by a sensor.
There are three herbs that absolutley help to quit smoking they completely supress the withdrawal symptoms. One is Salvia but i don-t like it cuz it-s very strong, the other is Ecsphoria and the other is Wild Kratom. Wild kratom is opioid tea, Ecsphoria is just amazing. None of them are addicting.
Don-t get electronic cigarettes, because they-re still giving you nicotine just not with...-smoke- but -vapor- instead.
On ebay you can buy fake cigarettes, and maybe smoke shops?
http://moreinfo299.com/fakecigarettes
Hello Foreleef,

There are quite a few electronic cigarettes available. While you don-t light them up, they do glow on the end as if they were lit.

What they all have in common is a water vapor nicotine delivery system. Some of them taste exactly like a cigarette, and even feel like you are taking smoke into your lungs and exhaling it.

The great thing about them all, is that you can order full strength nicotine, medium strength, light, and even no nicotine.

They are rechargeable, and you can smoke them in public places where you can-t smoke a real cigarette.

The prices vary from around $59 for a complete starter kit all the way up to around $129 for the same kit.

I no longer smoke, but my girlfriend does, and she-s tried 3 different ones, and believe it or not, it-s actually the least expensive one that she thinks tastes and simulates really smoking the best, and it also has the best warranty. And the warranty is important, because the first 2 she tried both broke down after the warranty. This one is still going strong 5 months later.

If you-re interested in learning more about the product, paste and copy this link into your browser:

While they will reduce your cost of smoking by about 75%, believe me, you-ll still find it hard to quit smoking using any nicotine replacement product.

However, you-ll certainly cut down the number of carcinogens you inhale from about 4000 to around 2, and you-ll make everyone around you a whole lot happier and healthier in the process. :)

I will say this also, you-ll have your best chance of quitting if you use an electronic cigarette than if you chose something like a pill, patch, shot, or gum. And, you-re absolutely right, you are more addicted to the physical act than you are to nicotine.

There is now ample evidence that nicotine is not the addictive element in cigarettes, but rather dopamine is, which is activated by nicotine. If you choose the non nicotine refills, you-ll be nicotine free in 72 hours after you smoke your last real cigarette. The rest is a matter of how long it will take you to wean yourself from actually puffing the E-Cig.

Good luck with your attempt to quit smoking. I know how hard it is to quit.

How long after you quit smoking do you start to recover? -

How long after you quit smoking do you start to recover? -

Like improved lung function.
Immediately.

OK, so you-re not going to be (overnight) as healthy as a lifelong non-smoker, but within just hours of quitting, your lung function will begin to improve, your blood will be more oxygenated, etc. The benefits are many.

The longer you go without smoking, the stronger your chances of avoiding such smoking-related diseases as cancer, heart-disease, COPD ...

Here is a list of the actual physical changes that occur after quitting smoking ... this is from the American Lung Association:

http://www.lungusa.org/site/pp.asp?c=dvL…

Please take a look ... the information is very encouraging! If you are trying to quit smoking, Best of Luck to you!
i was watching oprah and dr oz was on there and he said it takes 10 years for your lungs to fully recover! So you better stop NOW

Every cigarette is doing you harm. Every cigarette that you dont have it helping your lungs
You start to recover immediately, but it takes 15 years of non smoking to have the same lung cancer risk as someone who never smoked. I know, I-m quitting right now. I-m on the lozenge, and it sucks, but it works. I-m three weeks and two days smoke free. Good luck!
Between 1 to 9 months smoke-free:

Starting as early as a month after you quit smoking, and continuing for the next several months, you may notice significant improvements in these areas:
coughing
sinus congestion
fatigue
shortness of breath
It-s important to remember that healing from nicotine addiction is a process, and while some improvements are dramatic and happen quickly, others will come more gradually.

And the changes don-t stop with improvements to physical health, either. Your confidence will soar as you accumulate more smoke-free time. Breaking the chains of slavery to nicotine addiction is nothing short of empowering.

It takes ten years for your lungs to fully recover.

Stay with it and good luck, I am smoke free for 8 year now after smoking for almost 30 years. I feel so much better, and I can actually blow out my birthday candles all 63 of them.
I quit smoking in 1973. Cigarettes were $3 a carton. I quit the moment I heard about the Word of Wisdom. No smoking, no drinking, no alcohol or tea. I was told that the only way we can show God that we love Him is by keeping his commandments. I have since joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Even though I had been smoking for 12 years, and smoked 3 packs of unfiltered Pall Malls, and I had just purchased a new carton, I immediately stopped. I didn-t finish the pack and I soaked the carton in the toilet, I didn-t want anyone else to have the temptation. I am now 59, I have had 10 children, and I still play basketball.
I have never had a withdrawal. I commend you for this wise thing that you are doing. You will succeed.
2 years back to normal

How can i quit smoking hash? -

hi, i want to ask if any one know how to quit smoking hash, i have been smoking hash for 5yrs, 3 to 4 cigs daily now i want to quit coz im not enjoying it any more and i cant concentrate on my work plz advice me wat can i do to quit smoking thanks
http://thisinall.makes.it
A very informative website you can also get much information in website
First you should see a medical doctor.

Hashish is not typically considered to be physically addictive. But the psychological allure of it can be great. I would NOT stop cold turkey but a slow reduction. But see a doctor. There are meds (sort of) to reduce feeling bad during withdrawal. But typically medication will only be used if you go cold turkey. And for some programmes like AA and NA are great. I personally do not think they are good. But individualized therapy is great. And if you are a true addict (most people have no idea what an addict actually is) you might relapse but if you want this enough and work at it you can make it.
And know that just wanting to quit is not enough for an addict. Working at stopping is what will make you drug free.

So see a MD doctor
Therapy is important
AA or NA if you find that helpful
Stop hanging around other friends who use.
Hi,
If you realy wants to quit smoking then you should know some facts.

This is for your information pl. that Cigarette smoking kills nearly about 420,000 people a year, making it more lethal than AIDS, accidents, homicides, suicides, drug overdoses, and fire.

The main risks of smoking are

1. Heart disease
2. Cancer
3. Dementia and neurologic diseases
4. Lung disease
5. Female infertility and pregnancy
6. Male sexuality and reproduction
7. Behavioural and Social Problems
8. Effects on bones and joints

The methods to quit smoking are

At this time the most effective methods for quitting is a combination of nicotine replacement products and the antidepressant drug bupropion bolstered by counselling.

1. Nicotine replacement

Nicotine replacement products provide low doses of nicotine that do not contain the contaminants found in smoke. They are proving to be twice as helpful as other standard quitting methods. Replacement products include nicotine patches, gums, nasal sprays, and inhalers. Side effects of any nicotine replacement product may include headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal problems. People often experience sleeplessness in the first few days, particularly with the patch, but the insomnia usually passes. Patients using very high doses are more likely to experience symptoms, and reducing the dose can prevent them. Certain individuals like people with heart disease, pregnant women, small children may need to avoid nicotine replacement products.

Nicotine patches: Nicotine patches, or transdermal nicotine, can be an effective way to quit smoking. The quit rate for patch users is around 20% after six months. Nicotine patches are available over the counter, but it is best to consult a doctor before using them, particularly people with any medical problems.

Nicotine gum: Nicotine gum (Nicorette), available over the counter, has also been effective for a number of people. Some prefer it to the patch because they can control the nicotine dosage and chewing satisfies the oral urge. Long-term dependence may be a problem with this method.

Nicotine inhaler: The nicotine inhaler resembles a plastic cigarette holder. It comes with a number of nicotine cartridges which are inserted into the inhaler. It has some specific advantages over other slower nicotine replacement products:

Nicotine nasal spray: The nasal spray satisfies immediate cravings by providing doses of nicotine rapidly, and thus may play a useful role in conjunction with slower acting nicotine replacement therapies.

Nicotine tablet: A nicotine tablet that is held under the tongue is also very useful.

2. Alternative and ther Methods for Quitting

Scheduled reduction: One study showed that people who used a systematic withdrawal schedule were twice as likely to quit as those who went cold turkey. The procedure involves the following steps:

Divide the number of minutes per day awake by the number of daily cigarettes; the result is the minute-long wait between smokes.

Set up a schedule with time intervals based on this result and using a timer, smoke only at those intervals; if the -cigarette appointment- is missed by more than five minutes, the smoker must skip that cigarette.

The following week, one-third fewer cigarettes are used and the smoking time is recalculated based on the lower number.

During the third week the count is again reduced by a third, and the smoker quits in the fourth week.
Change daily habits:

Change the daily schedule as much as possible. Eat at different times or eat many small meals instead of three large ones, sit in a different chair, rearrange the furniture.

Find other ways to close a meal. Play a tape or CD, eat a piece of fruit, get up and make a phone call, or take a walk (a good distraction that burns calories as well).

Substitute oral habits (eat celery, chew sugarless gum, suck on a cinnamon stick.) Go to public places and restaurants where smoking is prohibited or restricted.

Set short-term quitting goals and reward yourself when they are met, or every day put the money normally spent on cigarettes in a jar and buy something pleasurable at the end of a predetermined period of time.

Find activities that focus the hands and mind but are not taxing or fattening: computer games, solitaire, knitting, sewing, whittling, crossword puzzles.

Avoid heavy drinking of alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants or mood altering substances.

Enjoy Life
I-d say it-s more of a psychological thing. so how much do you want this? You know all the basic/classic techiniques (cutting down..cold turkey..other activities..rewarding yourself) ..think about how much you really want this first. here-s an analogy...if you-re thirsty...and there-s a glass of water in front of you, but things obstructing the way..you-re gonna do WHATEVER in THE WORLD you can to get that water..not constantly ask around as to how you would get that glass of water.

If you have tried to quit smoking lots of times...? -

...and you finally DID, what finally made the time you really quit different for you? Serious answers only, please! If you-re only going to tell me that smoking is stupid and it kills... duh. I know that.
Nicotine lasts in your system for 7 days. So past the 7 days it is no longer an addiction, rather a habit. If you have ever read about child development you go through fixations. One you are having is oral. If you can make it 7 days, then just take care of the oral fixation part. Chew a lot of gum, snacking (I ate a lot of baby carrots), chewing on pens as disgusting as that sounds, just take care of that, and you should be fine.
I-ve started smoking cigarettes since I was 17 years old. I usually was able to quit cold turkey within 3-4 days.. the last time I tried quitting was when I was 34, and I had a bad cold that lasted a month, at the same time. It took me that long to quit, now every since then just taking a whiff of cigarette smoke makes me sick, even looking at people smoking them makes me sick too..I don-t know why people smoke, it is bad.. just look at an ashtray full of cigarette butts and ashes, just imagine that is what your lungs would look like by the time you-re 50.. you wanna have that??
have your doctor prescribe Chantix.

Did anyone get a headache when using the patch, to quit smoking? -

I am using the patch as way to stop smoking. I just started it today, and I-m experiencing a terrible headache. Has anyone else developed a headach from using the patch? Also, did you find the patch to be an affective way to stop smoking?
I used the patch to help. I did not get headaches. You might be getting headaches simply becase you are going through big changes with your smart decision to quit. The biggest side effect I experienced was very vivid, crazy, strange dreams (this is a side effect listed on the package). The dreams got so intense that after the first week I no longer wore the patch while I slept - just put it on first thing in the morning. Good luck!

I quit smoking 5 days ago - how long until I can think straight again? -

I have hard such a hard time thinking that I can barely speak my native language at moments...

How much longer can I expect to be a bumbling idiot?
I stopped smoking and it took me about a month to fully recover!
Good Luck!
You will have to practice behavior modification meaning you will have to find new habits to take the place of smoking and make a list of times when you know you want to smoke the most and develop a plan to divert your attention to something else. In other words take up a new hobby. Also avoid triggers like when others are smoking until you have gotten over the strong cravings. I quit cold turkey and I kept myself busy as much as possible. It took me several months to get over the cravings. Write down a plan and follow it. When you have a plan it can make you more determined to stick with it.

What kkinds of Nicotine Patches have you used to quit smoking and .....? -

which one would you recommend for me? I-m trying to quit as well.
Do not be fooled by brands of patches. Well at least not the Target brand. I choose to use the target brand because well it was cheaper. I started with Step 1, then moved to two. Now I-m using Step 1 and cutting them in half. This way you get double the amount of patches and still get to have the benefits of the patch.
Cold turkey is the only way to go. Simply stop. All NRT does is prolong the misery.
I have nicorette and the patch, I havent tried to quit yet-keep putting it off. Hard it is and unless you set your mind to it, you wont succeed
Nicoderm
Honestly, patches and gum only continue to feed your nicotine addiction. The best thing to do is simply quit. Easy for me to say, I know, but I quit smoking just over a year ago and I did it through hypnosis. Nicotine only remains in your system for 72 hours. After that, the rest is just habit. Just quit! Don-t trade one bad habit for another. My son went back to cigarettes so that he could give up nicotine gum. JUST QUIT!

When is the best time to quit smoking according to the farmers almanac?? -

thanks.
The Farmer-s Almanac?? That tells the best time of the year to plant things and what weather patterns will be, not when you should quit smoking or change habits. I-m not sure where you would have heard that.
Of course, the best time to quit smoking is as soon as possible. There are a lot of support networks that can help you quit if you need the help, but the sooner you quit, the healthier you will be down the road. Good luck!
Quit a bad habit -in the signs of the knees-, when best to wean animals. Sounded nuts to me, but I can back it up with more info than they give me space for here.

Will I gain weight in my hips if I quit smoking? -

Will I gain weight in my hips if I quit smoking? -

I-m actually hoping to gain a little extra weight on my hips when I quit. I know that people usually gain weight, but I-m just wondering if the fat gets redistributed to different areas of the body.
i know smoking speeds up your metabolism so you should gain weight....but the hips part is genetic. if your mom has bigger hips than so will you if you quit.
no,relax, just don-t wing yourself off of smoking by eating.BAD IDEA!
not unless you eat more
Some people do, Some people don-t. I have found that, italian and german descendants tend to while, irish and australians tend to not gain it. It-s a Toss Up
The only reason people gain weight is because they replace one bad habit with another, i.e. eating excessively.
I gained 30lbs when I quit and I put it on everywhere! It was horrible. I-ve since lost most of it but I got big everywhere. Most people do gain weight when they quit but there is no telling where most of it will go
Weight gain varies from person to person. Your stomach and hips are usually areas that women gain first though.
You will if you eat lots and drink lots of Guiness
yea i think you will but if you do quit you should go to the gym just incase
No. You will gain weight only if you eat more, and it will be distributed however your blody naturally does it.
smoking makes your metabolism faster for a little while after the cigarette. If you quit smoking watch what you eat and exercise so that you negate the slower metabolism and you-ll be fine
You should go to Wickipedia and look that up or do a search on google for that. I don-t think though that the fat goes to ur hips...
well, i dont see how quiting smking will help you gain, other than yur body going thru stress because the addiction.
u shouldnt u should loose weight if anything because smoking increases your body fat and causes girls to grow facial hair
NO!!!! JUST QUIT ITS SO NOT KOOL AT ALL!!! AND U SUCK IF U DONT QUIT IT!! KAYLA.
yes
if it is distributed evenly or something like that, then of coarse you-ll get some on your hips :).

I dont know, but quit smoking anyway, smoking sucks. If you have an oral fixation to cigarettes after you quit, suck/chew on celary or something like that...then your eating healthy and quitting :).
no. Smoking is bad thing. if you quit then no your weight won-t change unless you eat stuff that makes you fat.
girl smoking makes u skinnier. but its good if u do stop smoking. just eat food.
i say quit. either way though...you-ll be much happier with the outcome. and i actually think you do gain a bit!
you control your weight ! work it off ! you can do it !
not unless you are built that way and family history shows having a little more weight in your hips. for example, does your mom have bigger hips? the average weight gain is about 10 pounds.
Eat alot of Marshmellows then, they go striaght to the Behind

Whats up with this prescription quit smoking pill? Does it really work? -

I am a 22 year old who wants to kick the habit.
I-m not sure which pill you-re talking about. There is a newer pill on the market, and there is the older pill--Zyban. I took Wellbutrin in January for depression. Wellbutrin is made of the same ingredients as Zyban, but is marketed as an antidepressant. It didn-t do crap for the depression, but I completely quit smoking within one week of taking it. It was AWESOME. I have not had one cigarette since January, and I smoked for almost 10 years. Be sure you know all the precautions before taking any medication. I had to stop taking the meds because it made my head and hands unbearably itchy, gave me severe anxiety, and I broke out in hives.
I know of two people in my family that are taking the pill and it is working great for them.
Chantix is a relatively new medicine that helps you quit smoking, I believe you have to obtain a prescription from your doctor for this pill. Good Luck to you!!
I have quit smoking after using those pills. Always get the doctors advice before using the anti smoking pills. Have atleast one counselling with the doctor. His words inspire you and it is also needed in your attempt. Have strong will to quit smoking. I had been smoking for 12 long years and 20 cigs a day. I tried many times but failed and finally resorted to pills and it worked. Actually the pill works 50-60%. Remaining 40% is ur will to quit the smoke. And main thing is to avoid the places u used to smoke and also the company with whom u smoke. Dont even take a risk. U need to be cautious for atleast 3 months. Avoid the places and friends during that 3 months. If u need any other suggestion I am ready to help. I feel better and good after quitting the smoke. Actually there are lot of myths abt smoking and first understand none of them are true.

Can oatmeal help ease cravings when trying to quit smoking marijuana? -

I doubt it...cold turkey is the way to go though..congratz on trying to quit! your doing a good thing with your life!

On average, putting anything in your mouth would help with cravings...that-s why ex-smookers gain weight.
You might try gum, it-s more handy anyway
What cravings?
I think that you need to think about what the marijuana was working for you. If it helps you relax or sleep then I would say Oatmeal is a good choice. Pay attention to when you use the most. Oatmeal is OK for dinner but is quite substantial and may feel heavy at bed time.

Just an idea
no the only thing to help those cravings is to smoke more weed

I wanna quit smoking, but I am really stressed!? -

I really need to quit smoking... But I am so stressed right now. I am facing some possible medical issues, and need to change my lifestyle. Starting with the smoking, I am just so stressed out right now. Anyone been through this, any suggestions? Cold turkey is just not an option for me, and I have horrible will power. I have a baby girl and really wanna stick around to see her grow up! Please help me!
Also there is no scare tactic that will help me, I have had 3 realatives die in the last 2 years from cancer and that has only made me smoke more! HELP!
Make an appointment with your doctor to determine which smoking cessation aids would work for you. Join a support group. There are 3 Yahoo support groups. Check them out. My favorite is Nicotine Busters.

Good luck to you!

http://www.whyquit.com/

i smoked for 25, nearly 26 years and have been smoke free for 2 years and 4 months. I quit cold turkey and called this 1 800 Quit Now line, it is free no strings attached and support when ever you need it, plus buy lots and lots of bottled water, when i first started, every time i had a craving for a cigarette i opened a bottle of water and sucked it down and after that my craving was gone. Water is great because it is low in sodium, sugars and calories, since there aren-t any in water.
Gaining weight is one of the biggest side effects i had when i quit and originally gained like 15 pounds, but after like the first year i joined a gym and could actually use the bikes, stair masters, jogging machines, weights etc and not lose my breath, i am today 25 pounds lighter then when i was smoking, so i lost the 15 pounds i gained plus another 10 pounds.
A Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking- will help you.
There is a new medication on the market called Chantix that blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain reducing the cravings considerably, talk to your doc to get a prescription. Hope this helps, good luck!
