I quit smoking 15 days ago and now I am having sever headaches. Is this normal? -

Is this normal part of the detoxing period and if so how long till my headaches stop. I-m not on any meds I quit cold turkey and am not having cravings either. Any advice?
yes that-s normal....I know been there done that. Just bear with it til you get weened off of the nicotine completely you need to get it out of your system. Your body is missing it. I didn-t have cravings or weight gain like people said I would. The reaction is different from one person to the next. Good luck and stick with it take some advil or excedrine the one with all the ingredients that painaid has it it....with asprin and caffine that-ll help.

My jaw is aching and when I eat something it seems that the chewing hurts too? Any ideas? will this go away and be better tomorrow? or is this going to happen every time i chew the gum which would mean that I need to find another method of quiting smoking. Ideas?
Thanks

Don-t chew gums. they are also not good for health.
Simply eat normal food and don-t think much about smoking.

What is the easiest way to quit smoking? -

1) Look at pictures of black, damaged lungs from a corpse-s autopsy.
2) Visit a hospice where people have suffered the effects of chemotherapy and are terminally ill and dying from lung cancer.
3) Take a look at what a pack of cigarettes cost today and multiply the cost times the number of packs you smoke daily. Then figure out how much you spend annually.
mentally. Tell yourself you don-t want to smoke anymore. Start exercising, running.. try the patch
first get rid of the people that gets on your nerve the most then get a hobbie
You have to have the guts to quit, and don-t light another one.
There is no easy way..I quit cold turkey, and I still want to suck the smoke out of other people-s lungs sometimes. You just have to want it.
Thats easy. Get a nicotine patch and if you still will want to smoke chew cinnamon gum and break the cigarette... after that you can start crying and asking yourself what have you done.
yes... its hard to break a cigarette
If you are addicted now then you will always be addicted, when you decide to stop smoking you will and you will crave them forever- but you can stop when you decide you really want to.
I quit smoking by starting to chew (skoal) lol ... I think to truly quit the best way is to really want to and just quit ;)

Has anyone taken the drug CHANTIX to quit smoking and has it worked for you? -

Has anyone taken the drug CHANTIX to quit smoking and has it worked for you? -

My wife took Chantix just as prescribed (one week on Chantix before quitting). She quit and when the first month ran out, she didn-t get the next one filled. She has been completely nicotine free for 2 months now and she is doing fine.

I dipped snuff for 30 years and quit COLD TURKEY on June 2 of this year. Yes, it was difficult the first week, but now I don-t even think about it and I certainly don-t miss it.

What it all comes down to is this, you have to WANT to quit. Have someone you respect there with you to help you past the tough times. YOU CAN QUIT - I PROMISE, YOU CAN DO IT!

GOOD LUCK!!! -
I did not but quit smoking one fine morning or afternoon. I just felt an invisible presence near me and felt as if some one is setting some switches in my brain and that is all. I never felt the desire to smoke again. Same thing with drink too.
my dad did take some type of drug to help with the smoking and yes it did work. also I know several people who went to a hypnotist for smoking and that also worked

smoking is the worst thing you can ever do to your body....please try anything to quit right away..
I took it for 2 weeks and didnt feel it helped, but I had given 100 % of my willpower to quit smoking and it has been since March22, and I have not had a cigarette.

I have a few friends (female) who took it and they said it worked good for them, however they did take it for all 3 months.

The biggest thing to remember, is you have to WANT to quit and you to give 100 PERCENT of your willpower.
quit being weak and quit, cold turkey.

good luck.
I haven-t taken it myself but I-ve talk to 3 people (one being my mom) and all of them have quit with Chantix. My mom quit in May and the other two quit a year ago. It-s good stuff! You just have to be ready. I also know two people that have been taking it for over a year and still smoke like crazy because they aren-t ready to give up the cigarettes.
I personally didn-t, but my close friend did and it helped her, she hasn-t smoked now for 4 months. My husbands boss also took it and he-s been smoke free for almost 2 months, and then a close friend to my husband took it and he hasn-t smoked for about 4 weeks, so I guess it could work. I quit smoking on my own cold turkey 6 years ago, and I-ll tell you, I STILL crave them now and again, but whats the point of starting back up now!! Well, good luck to you whatever you decide to do. I know it-s hard to quit, but it-s amazing how great you feel afterwards.

i need advice on the best way to quit smoking
I overheard that chewing gum helps.
Congrats on wanting to quit smoking!!

First off make sure all of your friend and family know your goals so that they will be supportive of you and try to surround yourself with non-smokers for a while. (This will help with some of the temptation) You can try the stop smoking patches or gum or talk with your doctor and they can put you on Chantex which is legendary when qutting smoking.

Hope this helps!
See if your health insurance company offers a quit program.
dont put the smokes in ur mouth...

How easy is it to quit smoking? -

I have been smoking for 5 weeks now. I smoke about a pack every 2 days. How easy is it to quit smoking cold turkey for someone who has been smoking that long? And, is half a pack a day considered heavy?
You won-t know until you try. Most people don-t quit on the first try. So don-t lose faith. You will learn with each time, and eventually get there. Best to start now, and yes that is extremely -heavy-.

Even cutting down would be a great achievement.

It-s up to you how you go about it. But if you plan to quit cold turkey choose a good time and plan for it. Like plan to be busy, or off work, out of school etc. Whatever you think. If you-re a girl you could time it due to your menstrual cycle as that will put further stress on you while you-re trying to quit. You get the idea.

It is harder or easier based on your routine too. Luckily you haven-t had a smoking routine for long and it-s not an ingrained habit or anything. Unluckily for you it sounds like one of your friends might have introduced you to it. Meaning they might constantly put pressure on you or tempt you if you hang around smokers or smoky environments. Make sure all your friends know not to offer you one, and to support you.
25% of people are hooked on the first cigarette. Half a pack a day that early? You-re well hooked. Yup, that-s pretty heavy for that fast. Congratulations.

You must be a teenager, most new smokers are; teens never think there-s consequences to their actions so think that adults are just trying to keep them from smoking because -they never want me to have fun-. The cigarette companies loooooove teens, they know they-re usually lemmings easily manipulated through advertising and don-t believe the bad stuff will happen to them.

If you ever want to smell nice again, try quitting now while you have the best chance. The earlier you try to kick an addiction, the less hold it has on you.
half a pack a day is pretty heavy for someone that has been
smoking for only 5 weeks. why did u start its reaaly unhealthy and bad for you i know i sound like a moaner like other people but im serious. my dad has been smoking for over half his life hes 78 now and he can-t give up hes tried so many times over the years but he just can-t.
You should have NO PROBLEM quitting! My husband and I both quit cold turkey (not at the same time) over 20 years ago, after smoking at least a pack (or more) a day for over 15-20 years! 10 cigarettes a day for 5 weeks is almost nothing.
We are both still non-smokers. All you need is the will to quit. Then a little willpower. Go for it, hon, and good luck! :)
I quit cold turkey nearly two years ago. My husband and I wanted a very expensive car, the payments are pretty steep. I did the math on how much our smoking cost.. That-s what cured me. The money. As for my hubby, he needed patches for a couple of weeks.

As smokers, we all know it kills us, but the drug covers up any real concern. That-s why the money factor works so well.

Good Luck
my step mom said she stopped cold turkey one day 10 years ago, and havent smoked again since, my cousin smoked on and off for 8 years, and then stopped for a while 3 x before she finally stopped...shes been clean fr 2 years, but it took a year and several attempts to get there....
I smoke 1-2 packs a day and thats heavy. Its rough to quit but if you havent done it long, you-ll have an easier time. Drink coffee when you want a cig. It-ll get you wired but you will eventually stop craving the cigs.
Apparently it is harder for a smoker (smokoholic) to quit smoking than it is for an alcoholic to quit boozing.

Shortness of breath - quit smoking? -

I recently quit smoking and lately I have had more severe shortness of breath than I had when I was smoking. It feels like I-m not taking deep enough breath-s and I keep yawning, could this be serious or just a symptom of quiting? What could be the causes?
There is a reason why you-re more short of breath after quitting.

When you smoke, the smoke paralyzes your lungs- natural cleaning mechanism, hairlike things called cilia, that clear out mucus. Therefore, you get alot of mucus that gets trapped in the lungs and can sit there for long periods of time.

When you -quit-, the lungs- natural cleaning system -wakes up-, if you will, and begins clearing out junk that-s been sitting in there for who knows how long. This mucus ends up blocking up small airways as it-s being cleaned out, and the result is increased cough, and increased shortness of breath. You can also experience brochospasming as a result. I-ve seen it in scores of people who-ve told me they recently quit smoking and now feel worse.

Trust me, it will go away over time. You will find that you breath better than you have in years. You should consider seeing a doctor, who can prescribe medications such inhalers or expectorants to help with the symptoms.
Papa Freak sounds like he knows what he is talking about. I have brown spots in the yellow/greenish mucus Im coughing up after I quit smoking past 5 weeks. Some say its blood or tar...??

I felt like crap for the first 15 months after quiting

Even made 5 trips to the hospital for SOB

My Dr finally got a oxygen and a nebulizer set up for me

Odds are your time will be less than mine, I quit a 5 pack a day habit and 55 plus years of smoking
its just caused by quiting, you will also cough a lot more to. dont worry about it, believe it or not your lungs have to heal. its just part of the process. in time it will go away
strangely enough you feel worse before better.stick with it and see your doctor he may be able to give you some medication to help.well done.

Quit Smoking? -

I think I-m more addicted to actually smoking cigarettes than the nicotine itself. I want to quit after I get married this February. Does anyone have any advice? Or know any doctors in NYC who could help me quit?
Make a list of the reasons you want to quit and the benefits. Write them down. Refer to them often. When you have a bad crave, read them.

Put together a -Quit Kit- with things like gum, hard candy, straws (to chew on), paper clips and rubber bands (to keep your hands busy) and whatever else you think may help you in your quit.

Drink lots of water. It helps clean your system.

Be prepared to have rough spots and feel uncomfortable for awhile, you are addicted to a drug and your body will go through withdrawal. But, it will pass as long as you do not smoke!

Find support. It is sooo much easier to quit if you have support. Try visiting www.quitnet.com. This site is amazing. A group of wonderful people support each other in their quits!

Quitting is the best decision you could make! It is so worth it!

Quitting is not easy, but it is very simple. Simply don-t smoke!
its the nicotine and other stuff that you are addicted to,dont kid yourself.
you do not need expensive doctors or trainers to get you to quit, you just need some good old fashioned WIILPOWER!!
Hi! Well i have tried to quit atleast 3 diffrent times since 2001! The longest I quit was for 6 months. I did discover why I start back to smoking. Every time I did start back it would be like 2 weeks before Christmas.... The stress and worrie drives me crazy and I break to the point of having a pack of cigs. I quit with those Hot Jolly Rancher hard candies! I had to buy like 3 big packages a week at first but in about a month I was like only buying 1 pkg. aweek. Well I hope this helps you and Good Luck with the Marriage and smoking....
You could always trade that addiction for a healthier one, for example, if you get a craving you chew some of that nicotine gum, and over time you could mix in more and more regular gum until finally you just chew regular gum, then you-re only problem is needing gum, and that at least shouldn-t shorten your life and the lives of those around you.

Just don-t try the cold turkey method, because that hardly ever works unless they had just started.
Hypnosis works! Trust me. It may take a few sessions but you can buy cds on ebay that will help.
if you-re a heavy smoker then don-t stop entirely immediately.
just smoke lesser and lesser each day until you finally get to zero.
key point would be determination as the withdrawal symptoms would be bugging you, so look for someone to control you or smth.
you can try nicotine sweets available in pharmacies to reduce the withdrawal symptoms caused by nicotine.
I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.
sCold turkey. That was the only way my mother could do it because she was allergic to the patch and has had negative effect with ati-depressants.

A doctor can prescribe you anti-depressants to help you quit smoking.
just stop smoking

I am sixteen and have been smoking for three years. the day before yesterday i had two cigarettes and yesterday i had two. so far today i have not had one. and i feel like i am going to go crazy!

What are some tips to calm me down and get rid of the oh so powerfull urge...?
Cold turkey. Have plenty of gum, mints, and hard candy available. Cut plastic straws to cigarette size and -pretend- smoke them and chew on them. Keep yourself busy and distracted. BE DETERMINED. If necessary, go hour by hour.

If I can quit a 27 year long, 3-pack-a-day Kool habit, ANYONE can quit.
Good luck, and stay strong!
This stuff chantix is supposed to be the best thing to quit with. You have to see a doctor to get a perscription and w/o health insurance its 300$ or more for a month supply.

CHANTIX is a non-nicotine pill.
CHANTIX is a non-nicotine prescription medicine specifically developed to help adults 18 and over quit smoking. Over 6 million people in the U.S. have already been prescribed CHANTIX.*

How is CHANTIX different from other smoking cessation products?
CHANTIX does not contain nicotine. It works in two ways. It targets nicotine receptors in the brain, attaches to them, and blocks nicotine from reaching them. It is believed that CHANTIX also activates these receptors, causing a reduced release of dopamine compared to nicotine.

It-s recommended that you begin your CHANTIX treatment a week before you stop smoking completely. This gives CHANTIX a chance to build up in your body. You may smoke during the first week of your CHANTIX treatment, but you should stop smoking completely on Day 8 of your treatment.

CHANTIX is proven to work.
In studies, 44% of CHANTIX users were quit during weeks 9 to 12 of treatment (compared to 18% on sugar pill). CHANTIX also helped reduce the urge to smoke.

CHANTIX has been proven to be more effective in helping smokers quit than Zyban? (bupropion hydrochloride). The average person in these studies had been a smoker for more than 24 years. The trials involved a mix of men and women who smoked an average of 10 or more cigarettes a day.
For me, nothing really helped. I went on the patch, tried the gum, and both just made me want more nicotine.

The best tool was me finally just being sick of the way I smelled, the way I felt and the money I was spending. I-m a pretty active person and it is scary how much smoking effects your ability to even just run for a short period of time if necessary.

Even though it is also a drug, caffeine can help curve the cravings and you can cut down on it once your nicotine cravings are gone. I drank tons of pop and coffee during the first few weeks.

Smoking is just as much a mental addiction as a physical one. The oral sensation of having the cigarette in your mouth is something you will miss. Having flavored toothpicks can help with this as they give you a new taste and something to have in your mouth. Hard candy or suckers work the same way.

Finally, be aware that you are going to feel like crap for awhile. There is no one who has quit that didn-t feel like killing someone during those first few days / weeks. Mentally tell yourself that it is okay, and you will get through it even if you do feel like screaming.

Best of luck, nicotine is the worst; just as addictive as heroin.
Those first couple of days are the worst. If you can make it past the first week you are home free! I have found that when I quit smoking that in my mind I had to really want to quit or it just didn-t work. It-s more of a mental addiction than it is physical. I quit for a year and started back and still am now. I am trying to get myself in that mental state where I was once to quit b/c they have went up so high I just don-t feel justified buying them. The one tip I can give you is don-t eat to fill the crave. You will gain weight. When you quit smoking usually the reason you gain weight is b/c when you smoke it affects your taste buds so when you quit food tastes better, so you eat more. Some eat just to not think about smoking too. Chew some gum. Exercise. Keep yourself occupied so you won-t think about it. Good luck.
try drinking loads of water when you get a craving. keep your hands busy as part of the addiction is the physical motion of smoking. You can also try going for a walk, sprint for a short distance or do jumping jacks. Try not to substitute smoking for food since that is normally how people who have recently quit gain so much weight.

i quit using champix and it really REALLY helped. its doctor prescribed so try heading to the doc.

good luck
im on the same boat with ya brahhhh,

what i did, and made me stop for a while, was.

when you get the smoke in your mouth,
dont take it into your lungs./
keep it in your mouth and swallow it,

[like food,wwater,etc..]

its the worst thing,
and made me hate cigarets for a long time.

its mind over matter/.
Definitely gradual, slowly.
Like, maybe one a day, then one every two days, three days ect.
Also patches may help.
Try to do some things u lyk to do. ( ride ur bike, watch t.v, etc) or try that cure they sell it at drugstores and target.

hope i helped.
wink wink
when you are phyiscally, mentally and emotionally ready!! not being funny.
you shouldnt have started but if you really want to stop tell your parents that you smoke then they can help you stop hopefully
Stop buying and borrowing them.

How can you quit smoking naturally without using any other drugs? -

I just answered this here 5 seconds ago at the bottom

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?…

Good luck, I smoke 25-40 a day depending on where I am and what I-m doing. But seriously I meant that good luck. I WISH I could stop smoking, but it is just so hard. Non-smokers just don-t understand why you can-t -just quit-. Its so hard. I mean the main stop smoking product is the patch and gum and the gum don-t work for me like everyone who smokes in my family has tried to use the patch to quit smoking and it just didn-t work for them and they been tryin to quit smoking for like more than 20 years. Maybe what everyone says, Willpower, is really what you really need, well, no, it really is. But you would need to be really really self disclipined. I hope you are eventually able to quit, and I guess the best advice I can give you is don-t get too discouraged if you keep trying and failing and going back to smoking because it happens, if you hold strong you-ll make it. wish me luck too
well u must have a lot of will power for that....

try meditation it helps reduce the stress....n a lil bit of breathing exercise will do u good...it helps ....

try eating chocolates wen u feel the urge to smoke...or chew gums it helps

there r more bitter ways like
fine urself every time u smoke....deprive urself of a treat every time u smoke....n reward urself wen u overcome the temptation...
trust me the urge to smoke latst only 4 upto 15 mins...if u overcome tat ..then congo.....

i hope i have helped u.....
just quit, it-s that simple. i was up to 3 packs a day when i quit. if you really want to quit, dont let yourself make excuses to continue smoking. difficulty breathing is a good incentive to quit. the alternative is to keep smoking until you stop breathing.
Epsom salt baths draws the nicotine and tar out of the body, all the things that make you addicted. It doesn-t make you completely cravingless, but it helps a lot.
Steel Willpower and very understanding friends.
strong willpower, plain and simple.

You will not make the descision for him or her. As a ex-smoker, it was not my wife who made me want to stop - even though she tried for 20years - I made the choice. Give it time, and when they do give up don-t talk about it, just let them get on with it.
If it is a guy, you may suggest he try switching to snus. Check it out on Wikipedia. It is a smokeless tobacco from Sweden that does not contain the carcinogens found in American smokeless tobacco (such as Skoal).

The Oliver Twist style doesn-t require spitting and isn-t noticable when in the mouth (no big bulge).

Some people use it as a substitute for cigarettes, while others use it to help stop smoking and then get off of it. It does contain a lot of nicotine, so it is still habit forming.

Here is the website I purchase mine from: http://www.northerner.com/html/snso_1.html
you can have a talk with her - let her know that you r concerned for her but there is no way to convince to to quit if she does not want to do it....however if she does want to just be there for her while she is trying to quit as she will be very moody and might gain a little weight....let her know how much you love her and care for her - if you plan on having children maybe you should help her quit before she becomes pregnant so you guys can have a healthy child.......(ok i dont know if your fiance is a male or female but same difference either way)
I hear that the hypnosis sessions work to quit cold turkey, but I am not a smoker so I can-t say for sure. Call that quit helpline. Maybe they have some advice that will help you.
Ask Stephen King. He knows certain guys that have
an infallible sistem.
Don-t nag, or he may decide to quit you instead.
Ive been trying guilt but it isnt working. Let me know if you succeed. Smoking is gross.......

I quit smoking about 5 months and 2 weeks ago and I still am hacking up fleghm and tar, When will it end??? -

i smoked on and off for about 5 years. When will it end???
This is a good sign, this is your lungs repairing and healing themselves, it may last for quite some time more, you smoked for 5 years, it will take a couple years to completely fix the damage.

Dont give up, it-s worth it!
It might be over soon, just don-t give up. Actually it is a good sign, because your immune system is working properly and your lungs are still getting rid of all the tar. You are still coughing, because the cilica (fine hair) in your bronchial tubes is growing back and ejecting everything that doesn-t belong in your lungs. Going through this phase is good, because it is a reminder of never picking up another cigarette.
Congratulations.
I quit smoking 6 months ago, and haven-t coughed for quite awhile. If it is bothering you, you should have a sputum test done to make sure you don-t have a lung infection.

I smoked for 55 years, and am so glad not to be coughing any more!
yes i gave them up also . it took about two years
You wont know when it clears yet. Because it depends on how much time you spent on smoking. Go to the doctor to get x-rays
on your heart just to be sure

How to beat the cravings after quitting smoking? -

How to beat the cravings after quitting smoking? -

I quit smoking 2 days ago, cold turkey, how can I beat these cravings?
all is in your head. the first question is : do you realy want to stop smoking? when you feel weak you can ask one question to yourself : why should i start again when it was so hard to give it up?
or : how can i smoke now, when i am nonsmoker?
it helped me... it will help you...

solutions like drinking water, juices, sport activities,... will just improve your will to stop smoking forever.

one suggestion more : try to be with nonsmokers friends, and with people who will support your great decision.
Make your will STRONG. Have few ex-smoker or non smoker friends as your supporters and cheerleaders. Drink water, chewing gums or sunflower seeds and have a short walk if possible. I know it-s tough but you CAN beat it.

I am quitting since 4/15 cold turkey as well. Good luck to us!
I know two people who have quit smoking and they chew gum like CRAZY. Its sort of funny really because they go to costco and buy the super size packages of gum. But I supposed it is a LOT healthier than smoking and hey...their breath smells 100% better.

Good for you and good luck!!
cue a pice of gum

How can I quit smoking and keep on track with it without starting again? -

I have been trying to quit smoking for months now and I always manage to buy cigarettes. I keep making excuses for myself which leads me to buy them and I always feel left out from a group of people who are smoking and I-m not. I have the gum and went one week without buying cigarettes but I still scabbed smokes. I really want to quit for my healths sake.
Stop thinking that quitting is a difficult thing, we have an anti-smoking culture so people think of smokers as a great evil rather than victims of an addiction, this culture effects how we approach quitting. People think that if smokers continue to suffer in order to smoke that they must enjoy smoking thus quitting will deprive them of something so will be difficult, when logically the fact smokers suffer should make quitting easier. Did you know there are laws in place so methods that don-t require willpower are restricted, being told constantly that you need willpower and quitting is difficult you believe it too and that is hardly motivation to quit!

I seriously recommend EASYWAY it has a 90% success rate and once quit very few start smoking again, there is no weight gain, no moodyness, and no feeling deprived. Easyway is easy as there is no willpower required, instead it helps you understand the nature of the addition to overcome it and feel positive from day one. It deals with the mental addition rather than the chemical, after all smokers can go all night without being woken up by cravings, nicotine may be highly addictive but the cravings and withdrawals are minute, it-s all mental. A lot of it is common sense that the addiction cancels out, sure you know smoking will kill you horribly and costs you a fortune but you still continue, that darn addiction is overriding your own brain. Easyway gets rid of the addictions grasp on your logic and deprograms the brainwashing about quitting being difficult or social dependancy on having a cigarette in your hand, then you quit successfully and happily without any ill effects. The course comes in different forms, you can get a book from Amazon for practically nothing, I tend to buy copies for £3-£4 to give away, the books also give you 20% discount off the clinics. The clinics offer the same information but more support, they are £220 but you can go as often as you need and they offer a full money back guarentee.
http://www.allencarrseasyway.com

There are of course other methods, tips to help you quit, most are about as much use as, well, as continuing to smoke is to your health. Some methods work for some people and not others, but with the right attitude anything can work. If you go cold turkey try drinking coffee which feeds the caffeine addiction so takes the edge off the nicotine addiction, the bitterness also puts your off smoking, and coffee helps clear what will be coming off your lungs. Bitterness of range juice and dark chocolate can also put you off smoking, don-t use lollipops as although they keep your mouth busy it-s positive reinforcement – your body is craving nicotine so you are rewarding it with candy. Avoid quitting with friends as if one fails then it gives you an excuse to give up too, but by all means find a support group. If you find yourself laying in bed reflexting on how much you want to quit get up and write it down as in the morning you-ll forget those thoughts. There is a mouthwash you can use which is like the bad tasting nail polish used to stop biting nails, it-s sprayed onto your tounge to make cigarettes taste horrible, but it makes everything else taste horrible too. Herbal cigarettes totally help as they keep your hands and mouth busy, the problem is that you can-t smell them but everyone else can, they don-t smell nice, so use them when you-re alone. There is nicotine replacement, lozenges, patches, gum, inhalator, these are expensive but if you live in the UK you can get them free on the NHS as long as you go along to smoking clinics that monitor your progress – if you fail you have to wait six months before you can try again. You can also get drugs like Zyban, again free on the NHS, these drugs act on your brain to stop cravings, you start them a few weeks before you want to quit. My friends parents used a similar drug to Zyban and were so disgusted by cigarettes that his father threw up at the mere smell of his cigarette tin.

Hypnotherapy is an alternative treatment method used to stop smoking and get rid of nicotine cravings that may people often don’t realize exist. The success rates for smokers who implement hypnotism to stop smoking are much higher than the patches and gums which are currently available on the market. If hypnotherapy is something you’re interested in trying in order to quit smoking, you can seek the ability of a certified hypnotherapist or you can practice self hypnosis.
Hello!

Please take a look at this discussion forum. Maybe electronic cigarettes are something for you.

Some say that using ecigs can help you quit smoking. Currently there is no scientific evidence for or against it. One option is to gradually lower the level of nicotine in your cartridges to become nicotine and tobacco free.
The other option is to smoke electronic cigarettes with zero nicotine cartridges while applying nicotine patches. That way you separate addiction and habit.

Good Luck! It-s not easy ...
By far the best method and product on the market today to stop smoking is:

How can i quit smoking cigarettes for real this time? -

i have been smoking for 12 yearsand i-m only twenty years of age i want to be healthy for me and for my husband but i dunno how to quit. please help but no stupi answers plz.
its a mind thing more than anything else. the only real way to quit is to not smoke, no matter what. your addiction will talk to you, saying things like -one wont hurt- but dont do it.

here are some tips:

1 - you will feel weird but you should actually focus on the feeling and know its your body healing.

2 - DONT USE ANY NICOTINE PRODUCTS! to help with the withdrawal, get some lobelia, valerian and st johns wort. lobelia fits into the nicotine receptors of the brain and tricks the brain into thinking youve smoked. valerian keeps you very calm, and st johns wort keeps you from feeling depressed and hopeless.

3 - get some licorice chew sticks (not candy, natural licorice). they help with the oral fixation and cleanse your liver

4 - whenever you get a craving in your chest, drink some ice cold water, breathe deep and ride it out. cravings only last about 4 minutes

5 - WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT SMOKE
The real answer it to nut it up and just do it. Keep yourself busy and try to keep your mind off of smoking.

Nicotine gums and patches keep you addicted to nicotine.
They only cure for your addiction is to not smoke and not ingest any nicotine.

Try not to hang out with your smoking friends for a week or two and be sure not to get drunk because you will surely slip and have one.

Exercise can also help. Whenever you really want a cigarette go for a quick jog...you won-t want to smoke after that :)

Best of luck to you!

I tried it, and it worked great. The side effects were managable. The end result is well worth it, I have been smoke free since Oct 1, 2007
I have three friends who all got bad headaches,nausea,couldn-t sleep, weird dreams when they did sleep...i decided not to do it based on their results...hopes that helps

What is the best thing to use if you are trying to quit smoking? -

1. Walk 30 min/day, every day, for 2 weeks before actually quitting. This builds your discipline and your willpower.

2. Start the patch (it-s preferable over the lozenge/gum because it doesn-t feed your oral fixation).

3. Pay close attention to changes in your eating habits. Log everything you eat for the 2 weeks before you quit, and continue after you quit - make sure there is not an increase in your caloric intake.

4. Get your teeth professionally cleaned. Quitting smoking restores circulation to your gums and can cause excessive bleeding and gum disease if you don-t get your teeth cleaned after you quit (plus, your whites will be the pearliest ever!)

5. Stay away from situations that will encourage you to smoke. When your buddies go out back at work to smoke, find another activity that will not tempt you. When your buddies go to the bar, stay at home and read or take a walk or call a loved one. At least for the first few weeks.

Good luck!
Water to hasten the cleansing of your system. Exercise to remove the build up of junk on the lining of your lungs. Will power to fight the withdrawal and the cravings.
Light Cigarettes
I quit smoking a little more than two years ago. I used the gum for about six weeks.
Its been since September 06 that i-ve quite :-)

First of all, i-m sure you-ve heard this a thousand times but its true...you really really really really have to willing to quit before you do anything!

Then, I went to see my general family Dr. He advised me to try the patch (worked really well for me not necessarily for everyone apparently...but it helps)Nicorette Steps 1,2-3. Then, he also prescribed me these stress pills (not anti-depresants) just harmless stress pills for those really tough moments when i would break out into a rage! Yep....-rage-...you have to face the fact that its going to be tough in the begining (first few weeks) then its gets less painful/stressful....and you have to realize that you-ll still be thinking about smoking even months, a year after you quit....and just one tiny little puff, one little drag and you-re back for good buddy.

Eat a lot of greens (salad, cucumber,Zuchini...etc) drink a lot of water/liquids....and if you-re afraid of gaining weight...think of it this way: when you eat (especialy a good greasy/fatty meal) the first thing you crave is a smoke....well, logically, if you don-t eat a lot (to compensate) stay away from greasy food/junk food for a while....drink less coffee..etc..you won-t have that craving ;-) chew gum (but not obsessively, it could give you lock-jaw!?! Happened to me...)...

And i hate to say it but a lot of walking or even riding a bike everyday (or excerise bike) really helps....trust me. Remember, you have to accept that its hell (i broke out into a tantrum and tears one day)...but once you get through it...MAN OH MAN!!! you-ll start seeing the differences bit by bit; your skin (and tone), your breathing, your mood, your sleeping, your taste buds...everything just changes...gets healthier...its great!!!

Hang in there buddy...best of luck
Nicotine Patches and Nicotine gum. Good luck getting rid of that nasty habit.

acupuncture, it worked for about 2 weeks, it wasn-t the right time, i-m going back
Will power...and start training a sport you like...youll see how it quickly gets you over it all in no time.
Gum or keep hard candy in your mouth. Also keep your hands busy so you don-t reach for the cig that you don-t need.
Take up a new sport that you can really get hooked on. You will then realised how unhealthy it is to be smoking.

My husband did was he finished up straight one full pack the night before he wants to quit. Smoke till his tongue was tasteless. Then he stop totally the next day.
A book called -how to quit smoking-, it-s worked for loads of people, where nothing else has. Don-t know the author.
Stop smoking. Flush your stock of cigarettes, do not buy any more, stay away from the cigarettes when going shopping, avoid people that smoke. After a day your urge will weaken. If you continue this behavior for a month your urge will be almost completely gone. After about three months you will probably be ready to see the cigarettes and see people smoking. However, I advice that if you have friends that smoke that you should avoid them because you will feel a natural affinity to do what they do. I would wait to hang with them while they are smoking for at least a year. If you make it a year without smoking you are ready to be in the company with active smokers. After a year it has been my experience that only great stress or depression could bring you back to smoking.

What is the best way to quit smoking permanantly?
A mixture of counelling, support groups, freinds and family who are supportive of your endeavour, and a good anti-depressant, such as Zyban.
There are many ways to quit smoking, BUT willpower is ALWAYS the one thing you can-t buy. We have an innovative new product to replace your tobacco cigarette with an electronic cigarette. You will quit smoking permanently when those malignant tumours found in your lungs have spread throughout your body and you are lying there alone on a hospital bed gasping for your next breath. Nurses can be heard laughing in a nearby ward, looking forward to the end of their shift when they will be able to go home to their families - but alas for you it-s too late....
dunno..never tried
I-ve never smoked myself, but my Mum and 2 aunties all went for hypnotherapy to help them quit about three years ago. It cost them around £70 and definately worked. Good luck
Alan Carr-s books/CDs have helped a few people I know stop. If I was stopping now, I think that-s the way I go (thank goodness I did it 20yrs ago.)
To quit smoking, stop buying ciggarettes.
buy something that stops you smoking
I joined a support group, it helped knowing i was-nt alone. I used patches but you can discuss what-s best for you. Hav-nt smoked for nearly 3 years, feel better, look better, go for it, you can do it.
I was on 40 camel a day my girl friend said if i could quit for 6 months she would be my wife ! we have just had our 5th year as man and wife. i did it with patches and will power. if i can do it anyone can. good luck. Also keep this in mind the money i saved has payed for two Florida holidays!
Well I-ll tell you, I just quit 28 days ago and now i know im strong enough never to go back to smoking. Was smoking a pack and half a day for 6 years strong, and you know,

All it took for me to quit was to sit down and actually think about smoking, the pros/cons and ALL i could come up with were cons. Negative health effects, smelly, costly, and i finally decided it was just plain Gross. The first 2 days were the hardest after that it has been pretty smooth sailing i dont even think about cigarettes anymore! Just keep reminding yourself that YOU are stronger than the cigs. ITS SO GREAT....I FEEL SO GREAT....you can do it too give it a shot, good luck.
It took me three years to give up, lots of stop/starting with the periods of non smoking getting longer and longer. I found the gum quite good...if you chew lots of it and force yourself to keep chewing it the resulting nicotine high is so disgusting it is very offputting. Makes you feel really quite sick. I stopped for six months doing this, but unfortuatly started again. I have stopped for two years now.... the answer? pregnancy! I had trouble stopping for me (secretly I liked smoking to much) but it was actually easy to give up for my baby because I had no choice.
Quittings for losers
Wish i knew, but willpower i guess, its not easy.
Can-t speak from personal experience but.....
any addiction if it has really taken a hold then it could always be a recurring problem or temptation.
My sis managed to quit and so did her boyf. but I don-t think they were ever heavy smokers. Clearly strong will-power and a clear idea of what you are seeking to achieve and why will be necessary in order to quit successfully.
Have you tried nicotine patches, nicotine gum?
Avoiding smoky places and areas of temptation - your regular newsagents ? Just a thought anyway. All the best. Joe
willpower definately... it took me hundreds of attempts and i didn-t succeed until i was completely ready. i have been a non-smoker for 9 months now. also with each craving tell yourself that it will only last a few seconds and ignore it til it goes away, it gets easier over time, drink water while you get a craving. when you-ve finished your craving will be gone...
every one is different...find your reason to stop..find your habits and why you smoke...then find what works best for you to quit.... nickotine..........thats the addictive part.
Just you, yourself(asked yourself what benefits you could get from smoking)?
Pick up a book on how to properly undergo juice fasting, (you can find one on amazon.com),.. and do a seven day juice fast. This will clean out the nicotine from your body and allow you to let go of smoking. ....That is, if you are really serious about quitting.

From what I have read,.. quitting -cold turkey-,.. is the best way to quit. The most people have the most success by quitting cold turkey. If you want to support yourself in quitting cold turkey by cleaning out the nicotine chemical addiction from your body,.. then do a proper seven day juice fast (while not smoking at all), .... and you will break your addiction to smoking.

And don-t listen to ignorant people who would discourage you from fasting. They do not know what they are talking about. Fasting is the most natural and health promoting practice one can perform. It has been utilised for thousands of years towards the promotion of health and well being.
There are several different methods and not all of them will work for everyone. It is an individual thing.

Hypnosis is one, Biofeedback another, patches, gum, cold turkey, cutting back and limiting etc....It all works per the individual.

I work with clients to reduce the issues that create the need to smoke. Once those issues are resolved, the need to smoke is eliminated. Then we work on the health issues left from smoking. And also on stress reduction, weight reduction etc.
ONLY will power helps. nothing else...
Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
I just quit last Monday ( Cold Turkey ) My boyfriend still smokes like a chimney ... I also started a diet on the same day so I may be just plain nuts, but so far im doing great ... Drinking about 60oz of green tea a day has helped me to be full of energy so im doing alot more and running in circles more to keep me busy and not think so much about the smoking or eating ....
first is ur will power!!!!!!

second thing is.......ur will power!!!!!

third thing is.....talk to ur doctor friend n family to help u quit it!!!...be honest!!!
Willpower.
try his book, it worked for me.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-Easy…

after smoking for nearly30 years ive given up for a week to help me i tried patches niquitin cq i cant believe how good they are but i supose you need a bit of willpower as well.
patches, gum, doctors help (local stop smoking centre) and will power. it-s the only way! or you could try hypnotherapy though i don-t know anyone who-s tried this and stopped for good.
Think it is useless .......i still have the stress

Tell your parents and buy the patch, gum, or whatever method you want. Odds are that your parents will be willing to buy it for you, if they want to help you live cancer free. You can join a support group online or simply give yourself rewards for not smoking. -If I don-t smoke for one week, I will use the money that I used to use for cigarets, to buy _____- Also, try to stay away from friends who smoke, as it could be triggering. Or just hand out with them when they are not smoking. You CAN do this, if you are strong enough.
Just quit cold turkey. I did three years ago. It was the hardest thing I ever did. The first three months were the hardest. The key is to occupy your time with some other activity, that will keep you from thinking of smoking. Good luck!

When do you know its time to quit smoking? -

I-ve been smoking for like less than 6 months. Maybe at the max, 3 or 4 a day. I smoke clove cigs. I love smoking but I know I should stop before it becomes a problem. I don-t feel physically addicted just mentally. I-m just wondering, from former smokers, when you quit smoking did you WANT to quit, or did you just know you SHOULD quit? Thanks.
You already answered your question.

You knew immediately

when you thought of the question of -when is it time to quit?-
You have to want to quit. It is an addiction.
that time i quitted smoking when i had a bad flu n cough.i knew that i should quit it in time.
Like people said, just asking the question of -when is it time to quit?- means your body is subconsciously telling you that it is.

There-s no better time to quit than now.
If you started, it-s time to STOP. If you-ve never started, good for you-DON-T!
when you cough and your face is getting blue
just quit.. its gross, dont question it
i smoked for like 5 years and i can still go without smoking for a few days at a time if i dont feel like it.
you shouldnt smoke at all.
just quit it now.

any tips
Smoking makes you smell bad
Mints, gum (try to stick with sugar free) and this sounds kinda weird but take a straw and cut it in half. Wrap the end with a piece of masking tape so it looks like a filter. -Smoke-, hold and do whatever you do with a cigarette with this little pretend cigarette. Remember, you are only going to quit if you really want to. Throw everything away (cigarettes, ashtray, lighters etc) and don-t cheat! You should put four or five dollars a day (or how often you bought a pack) in a jar for everyday you don-t smoke. In a few months you could treat your smoke free self with a nice vacation! Good luck!!!

It does stink really bad!
My two pennies worth:

if the first thought after waking up is to light up then it is high
time u quit.

how bad do u want to quit really depends on your health condition. if u cant hold ur breath for a few seconds(say 20 )
or cant do 20 pushups if u are a male then smoking
really messed up yr lungs. or u can do all the above then
smoking is on the way to messing u up.

Now for the good news. After u quit smoking you can really
watch your body picking up and u can do all these (pushups ,jogging, deep breathing, running up the stairs)
within three months.

After u do all these physical activities the very thought of
picking up a cig and then losing all these benefits will really
help u stop smoking.

hey who says quitting is easy.
You need a focused mind to want to see yourself through say in a month-s time. If you fail just tell yourself to pick up and move on and make a good marking in your calendar to keep track of your progress. Drink plenty of water too. Cheers.
use trhe patch or te gum
The Tobacco Industry kills more people in North America from Monday to Thursday of each week than the terrorists murdered in total on Sept. 11, 2001.... If you smoke, or someone you care about still smokes, then this may be the most important letter you will ever read click here http://clickbest.qsrnp.hop.clickbank.net/
Go cold turkey. It seems hard but after the initial withdrawal pains your nicotine addiction will be over with. You will feel kind of fuzzy. You will want to smoke to feel normal. Don-t. You only have to resist that 1 cigarette. If you don-t have it you are home free. Every day write yourself a note and put it in the same place as your cigarettes would be, ex. pocket or purse. Write a catchy phrase like, -If i don-t smoke today, I-ll have more tomorrows, etc. This will reinforce your will power. Good luck to you. I did it this way 12 years ago and it worked for me.

How long after i quit smoking cigarettes will i be happy without one? -

I know that when i dont have one i get mad and really pissed off, so how long after i quit will i be able to be happy without one. I Just want to know how long i am going to be pissed and stressed about not having one. I know that for many years i will have withdrals but maybe its the nicotine im talking about?
Like many others I smoked when I was young but managed to kick the habit before I was totally hooked, I was lucky and suffered no damage to my health. But for a close friend it was different, even though she was only a moderate smoker, her health was being seriously affected and getting worse with time. Now this is where I really sympathize with smokers. She like many smokers knew the dangers and had genuinely tried many different ways to quit smoking. She tried patches, hypnosis and read several books on the subject of quitting, nothing had worked. She always ended back at square one, knowing she needed to quit, but how, nothing had a lasting effect. That was until she tried Smoke Deter.

So why am I telling this, because I played a small part in her success. You see I heard about Smoke Deter through my son, his best mate had quit smoking using Smoke Deter and I convinced my friend to try it. She was very skeptical, but I was so concerned about her health that I said that if it didn-t work I would pay for it, so she had nothing to lose and that convinced her. That was a year and five months ago, it worked and she is no longer a smoker, she has never has the urge to smoke since she quit using Smoke Deter, that-s a fact and it-s the only product she tried that she-s happy to tell others about.

Smoke Deter is an herbal based liquid oral spray that is used 3 times a day, this is also supplemented with herbal pills which when combined is very effective at reducing your nicotine cravings. How quickly it works depends on the extent of your habit, it can work as quickly as 2 weeks or may take 3 months, regardless of the time, your health is worth the effort to kick your smoking habit.

It-s worth noting that Smoke Deter is safe, natural and has no known side effect and no known drug interactions. It-s highly rated on many stop-smoking product review sites, often with genuine testimonials from people that have also kicked the smoking habit using it. So I am not the only one that knows Smoke Deter gets the desired result.

Smoke Deter also offers a lifetime free membership support program, so you are never on your own, help is available 24 hours a day if you feel the need, like if your resolve is weakening. There is also a free Stop Smoking Relaxation Audio MP3 available, it might not be for everybody but my friend said it was definitely a help to her, it changed the way she thought about smoking. That-s what I like about Smoke Deter it changes your whole attitude to smoking, it works on your mind as well as your body. Unfortunately I-ve seen the damage smoking has done within my own family and also in my circle of friends, consequently I-m fully aware just how hard it is to stop smoking without some kind of help. I-ve seen first hand how Smoke Deter helped my friend quit smoking and so it-s not surprising she can-t say enough about it. So if this article brings Smoke Deter to your attention and as a result helps you kick the smoking habit, then for me writing about it has been worthwhile.

So if you-ve been wondering if these quit smoking products work, well I guess some do and some don-t, but one that has my recommendation is Smoke Deter, I-ve personally seen it work when other methods failed. I-m happy to pass that information on so that others looking for a safe natural way to quit can try Smoke Deter if they wish.

If you would like more helpful information on Smoke Deter or other free quit smoking information, you may like to visit the source link below - It seems to confirm some of my comments and is dedicated to helping smokers improve their health, fitness and beat the smoking habit.
Don-t let ANYONE tell you that after a few days nicotine isn-t an issue. Ask any smoker who has tried to quit - days 1-3 are the easiest - it-s after day 3 your body isn-t just craving the nicotine you took away - it-s going to try to demand you give it some. Ask the same former smokers and they will tell you they still crave a cig even 20 years later. It may be occasional and short but a craving none the less. Also note that the nicotine isn-t the -bad- part of smoking. It-s the tar and carbon monoxide with the chemical cocktail of carcinogens the tobacco companies put in it.

So the best you can do is fight it as long as you can and know that it does get more manageable and easier with time or look into a reduced harm smoking alternative like electronic cigarettes.

Good luck!
So I assume you haven-t quit yet? That-s probably a good thing. With the attitude you have you are setting yourself for a tough battle.
The real physical withdrawal symptoms from nicotine are nothing to worry about, the problem is in your head - and you definitely have that problem. Theoretically the symptoms will leave within 72 hrs. If you still have withdrawals after that, it-s due to mental fabrication - because you believe you will have them. Nicotine is very addictive, that-s true, and that means you will remain addicted for life, but the (real) symptoms disappear as the nicotine leaves your body (in 72 hrs, most of it actually in just 24).
The reason most people have problems with this is because they believe they will miss smoking - they are getting something out of it.
You certainly don-t need NRTs or drugs or any other aids. Cold turkey is good - but do it a little differently. You just need sort out your head BEFORE you quit. Trying to do it afterwards is what makes it hard.
Be glad you don-t have to do that anymore - that you are getting rid of this filthy addiction. Never think you will miss it - that-s what makes it hard. But instead see yourself as happy, content and proud that you-ve done it.
If you prepare yourself properly, you can easily override the withdrawal pangs completely and it won-t bother you at all to be in situations or with people where before you smoked.
Here-s what you need to do in very, very short form:
1. Decide that you get nothing out of smoking (it’s only the truth)
2. Pick a quit - date so you have some time to prepare
3. Look forward to quitting (get excited about it) - essential!
4. Quit… easily
after 72 hours or so, the nicotine is out of your body. so, after that period, youre no longer talking about nicotine. your brain, however, will crave nicotine for a long, long period of time. you should notice your desire to smoke (which is causing you to be pissed off) to decrease over 6 weeks or so. after 6 months, you should be pretty much back to normal. normalcy, however, will never be fully achieved as many things can trigger the want for a smoke and thus, being pissed off.

best of luck to you.
Despite the scientific timetables given, it varies between people--but IT WILL come the moment when despite the craving, it-ll be a sweet breeze to abstain from cigarettes. But it WILL be a tough journey along the way there; any substance addiction is a life long one. Find the cures for them--and claim your Nobel. Until then, ascribe to the -10 step- program, akin patterned after the highly successful Alcoholics Anonymous one.

I let my anger at Nancy Pelosi-s tobacco product price gouging tax hike bill become my catalyst to quit at a -tea party- protest, avowing NEVER to fund Obamacare by further purchase of tobacco products.

March 2010 will mark my full year---and I-m doing quite well, enjoying Pelosi-s FAILURE in the process, as fellow smokers nation-wide each day, commit to quit. Good luck to her finding other Obamacare funding---pray the bill FAILS to pass.

I-ve also found it smart to channel my urges to smoke into another positive activity. I took up guitar in April---and am amazed at my current proficency with it. I-m no Eddie Van Halen---but nonetheless, I CAN play guitar quite well....and love learning all I can about it.
It will be out of your body within 72 hours, but once you are a smoker you will never lose the craving. I went cold turkey about 4 years ago and I still crave a cigarette with my beer. But the good news are that you will not be pissed of once you set your mind in quit smoking mode. Its more about the little habits like smoking while drinking a coffee, going with your colleagues on a smoke break, having a cigarette and a beer at your favorite bar.

Here are the 10 stages of quitting smoking:

Smokers tend to think of quitting as a huge, insurmountable obstacle. It-s more realistic—and more useful—to think of it as a gradual, step-by-step process. Here-s how to plan your course and what to expect along the way, along with some suggested activities to help you cope with it. Another great tool is this ebook that helps many people to finally give up their habit.

1. Think about cutting down/quitting

Talk to others about smoking. Observe how nonsmokers react to smokers. Observe negative aspects of smoking. Smoke in front of a mirror to see exactly what goes on when you smoke.

2. Seek more information about quitting.

Ask ex-smokers how they did it. Tell a friend you-re exploring healthier alternatives to smoking. When you feel an urge to smoke, wait a minute before lighting up; experience the urge fully and think of other ways to respond to it. Reward yourself for becoming more aware of your smoking patterns.

3. Modify your smoking risk (switch brands, cut down, etc.).

Start a smoking journal and record when you smoke more or less than usual. Try stress-reduction techniques. Adopt a healthful new activity that-s incompatible with smoking (swimming, dancing, etc.). Switch to a lower tar brand. Reward yourself for each risk modification.

4. Decide to quit (no date set).

Keep track of the number of cigarettes you smoke each day. Stop buying cartons; buy only one pack at a time. Identify your top cigarette triggers. Brush your teeth several times a day. List the reasons you want to quit. Switch brands every week, each brand being lower in tar than the last. Postpone every third cigarette. Ask family and friends for ways they can help you quit.

5. Set a quitting date.

Sign a stop-smoking contract. Sit in the nonsmoking sections of restaurants and airplanes. Prepare at least three responses to your top 10 cigarette triggers. Switch brands after every pack. Postpone every other cigarette. Cut back on alcoholic beverages. Set up a health bank. (Deposit a certain amount of money each week that you-ll get back after you stay smokeless for a specified period of time. Or quit with a group; whoever remains smokeless after a specified period divides the kitty.)

6. Refrain from smoking for 24 hours.

Schedule healthful activities (walks, bike rides, fishing, etc.). Have your teeth cleaned. Send your favorite clothes to the cleaners. Discard all your ashtrays. Pamper yourself as much as possible.

7. Complete your first week as a nonsmoker.

Treat yourself to daily rewards (massages, hot baths, etc.). Avoid smoking and drinking areas. Notice how much better your food tastes. Continue to work on your cigarette triggers.

8. Complete your first month.

Begin a regular exercise program. Add one new stress-reduction technique to your activities each week.

9. Complete your first trimester.

Gently increase your exercise level. Treat yourself to a weekend getaway. Volunteer to help a smoker quit. If you-ve been using a nicotine replacement, begin to cut back.

10. Complete your first year.

Throw a party to celebrate!

During stages 1 through 5, you may find yourself in a state of profound and confusing ambivalence. Studies show that during this period a smoker-s positive feelings about smoking do not disappear, although the negative feelings increase considerably. It is only after you actually quit that this conflict begins to ease.

One smoking researcher suggests you make a list of pros and cons of smoking. Chances are they will be fairly evenly balanced in stages 1 through 5. But after you have actually quit, the list of cons will get longer while the list of pros will get shorter and shorter—and gradually disappear altogether.

How to quit smoking? -

does anyone know any good ways on giving- up smoking?
i would really appreciate it... thanks
Hi becca,

I learned quitting is a process. Start by not smoking in the house. Not smoking in the car. Only allow yourself to smoke in one area. Try to make it away from the house so it-s inconvenient for you. Whenever you get comfortable with a cigarette brand, move to a lower tar and nicotine. When you get accustomed to this lower level, move down again. When you are ready to really give it up quit before you go to bed. When you wake up you-ll already have gone 8 hours without a cigarette. Try quitting on a specific day of the week. If you start up, quit again. Keep on quitting. That-s how I did it. It was the toughest thing I ever did, but worth every minute of it.

edit: find your local American Lung Association chapter and ask them for tips too. When I was quitting I called them all the time!
You-re welcome, don-t give up! You can do it!

For example lets say you smoked 20 a day, you should try to cut down one or two a day, so that your intake becomes less and less, one way to quit as well is to keep busy so that you don-t have time to smoke, therefore your active and not smoking, this way you will be smoking less and hopefully not rely on them too calm you down etc.

I hope this helps and good luck.
it-s different for everyone, but I know someone who got hypnotized and that worked for her, there-s patches, and gum... or you could just stop all at once. I also have heard of people just substituting the cigarette with something else

http://www.associatedcontent.com/article…

well for starters cutting down is a way forward, if people smoke around you it doesnt help because then you just end up craving one yourself.. maybe go to the doctors and get some patches or something? goodluck. x
You tried gum or those patches? You could call the smoking department I think it-s 311. Or get encouragement, look into your families eyes and see if you-ll be able to die in front of them.

You have to determine what you are really addicted to. Is it truly the nicotine or is it the action?

I am/was addicted to the action. If you are interested, try the electronic cigarette. You can save nearly half per year, still get your nicotine (or not if you use no nicotine cartridges), and take care of the addiction to the action.

I tried both the patch and the gum and was successfully miserable for about 8 weeks. After all of the nicotine was out of my system on the patch, I still found myself reaching for a pack of smokes.
I tired everything, gum, patches, hypnosis, inhalers, acupuncture, everything, nothing worked until i went cold turkey.

The thing about cold turkey was that it was bloody terrible, but over faster, every single day, every HOUR I was further away from smoking and that doesn-t happen with the replacements, you NEVER get enough nicotine to kill the craving, but always have SOME in your system and the -stopping- period lasts for months and months before you are nicotine free.

I know these methods work for millions, but for me, cold turkey was the only way.

(I cried every single day for the first 5 weeks or so lol, it was brutal, but worth it)
I am still smoking and have for sixty years now. I wish I had an answer for you. I went through Smokenders twice 20 years ago. Smoking was not recognized as a serious addiction then and I assiduously dealt with all the -psychological- aspects of my habit. I come from a family replete with alcoholism and I don-t drink at all! When I was in the Smokenders programs I saw many men who simply QUIT, cold turkey and without great complaint. I DO think it is much harder for women and it may have something to do with the extra fat cells that we carry in our makeup. I think somehow the nicotine may be harder for women to purge from their systems - taking longer and thus making withdrawal more difficult.

Also years ago the gum was by prescription only and doctors and dentists would only give you a prescription for ONE box. Even then I would say the gum was better than the smoking. I feel it is the components in the smoke that is much more harmful to your body and lungs than the nicotine, although that is undoubtably the addicting component.

I hope you will persevere in your efforts as the pain and suffering right now will pass and you will be free of the addiction soon.
You just have to get to the point where you-re disgusted with cigarettes. I recently quit. I had to just tell myself that they are nasty and expensive. I don-t go outside with the smokers at work now either so I-ve stayed out of a lot of gossipy drama. I have asthma too, so I-m saving money on Claritin now too because I don-t have to take it as often. I-m actually losing weight now. I gained 10 pounds when I quit, lost it and I-m still going with the weight loss. I can jog further and more intensely. I feel a lot better.
Try out some effective, simple and drug-free methods to quit smoking naturally. Try to review some companies that provide products that will help you to quit smoking naturally without any drug medication that could lead to negative long-term effects for the rest of your life. Good luck.
I used to smoke 200/day. Used to smoke even while eating. I used to get up at night to smoke.
Quit cold turkey in 1967 and never smoked again.

Fear was the key.
The American Surgeon General-s report, the study report of the Royal School of Physicians (UK) and the obituary of the Time correspondent written by himself two days before he died of lung cancer (The last line - it is too late for me, may not be for you) were all published in March 1967.

I quit on 21st March 1967 5-30 pm.
Great question - but who knows?
My Dad always tells how in the 1970-s when he used to smoke, he walked into a room and lit a cigarette and saw that he had two other ones going at the same time in the living room. At that point he said, -This is ridiculous-, and quit at that very moment never to smoke again.

I guess when I have trouble breaking a habit, I always go back to that. He-s much stronger than me, lol - but it helps to know that sometimes we complicate things and like to believe we don-t have the ability to stop something that we-re in complete control over.

Did that help you? Probably not. But I guess sometimes it-s mind over matter. Good luck. :-)
The degree of addiction depends on many factors, including genes. Some people don-t get addicted at all, others mildly or moderately, some can never stop.

Does anyone have any advice on quitting smoking? -

I have been smoking for too long and lately I have been smoking like a chimney! LOL I really need to quit. Does anyone have any advice?
First congrats on ur decision to improve your quality of life.

I smoked for 20 yrs 1 pack a day.....I quit 4 mths ago and have not touched one even in the most stressful times I did not go back to the old habit.

I tried everything in the past, patches, gum and cold turkey. This time I went to my doctor. He prescribed Chantix. I know there has been alot of bad press about this drug lately but I had no problems with it. I really think it depends on the individual in regards to the side effects. If you really want to quit I suggest you at least give it a try. It worked great for me.

Good luck
Ive been smoking since late 2005 i was up to smoking almost a pack a day sometimes a pack and a half a day if i was with friends who smoked alot. One day i decided i was wasting alot of money so i just decided to quit. Might not work for you, 7 people work at the lab im at and of the 7 people 4 of them smoke. so its tough but i realy think since im still inhaling second hand smoke i guess you could say thats actually helping to curb my need to smoke.

Good luck and quit for yourself not for others.
Hey Trueblue!

Smoking is a nasty habit, but its one of the hardest habits to kick. Coming from a former smoker, I know - I used to smoke almost 2 packs a day!

A friend of mine forwarded me this ebook that he got that really helped me. It was written by a former smoker and addresses the excuses smokers have about not wanting to quit AND the -perceived fears- smokers have about a life without cigarettes. Its an awesome book and you can download it for free. Definitely worth checking out:

You have to be prepared mentally. The physical addiction can last a few days, but the mental addiction can last forever. You can help yourself by using a product designed to help people quit

http://www.havetoquitsmoking.com/quit-sm…

Ask your doctor.
My mom, as well as a few of her friends have quit smoking. Its some pill that you take for about a month. but i forget what it-s called.

She asked her doctor and he recommended whatever it is and it worked.
I tried everything for the longest time.... at some point you just have to -man up- and just stop..... it sucks for a few days but you will feel SOOOOOO much better later on
I work for a smoking cessation team and I-ll tell you that the BEST way to quit smoking is to pair both some sort of counseling along with nicotine replacement therapy...that will bring you the greatest likelihood of success. Many hospitals have smoking cessation groups that are either free or only cost about $20. Cutting back your nicotine with products such as the nicotine patch will help you get over the cravings little bits at a time. If you try -cold turkey- I-m not saying that you won-t be able to accomplish your goal...but most people can-t bear the withdrawl symptoms long enough to overcome them. The average physiological dependence on nicotine can be broken in 3 days...after that point your addiction is more psychological..which is where things like habit come into play. Think about where you smoke, when you smoke, why you smoke, and what you can do to change those things. If you like to smoke with your coffee in the a.m., try another beverage until you break the habit. If you smoke because of stress, try some deep breathing exercises before going out for a cigarette; you might get the calm down that you need.

Nicotine replacement therapy is a good substitute for smoking when trying to cut back (instead of smoking fewer and fewer cigarettes) because there is only one chemical in NRT: nicotine. There are thousands of chemicals in cigarettes that aren-t addictive that you should be avoiding. The patch, for example, releases a constant stream of nicotine into your system so that you don-t experience a nicotine withdrawl...it is a small amount all throughout the day rather than a quick burst of nicotine with each cigarette drag. Another good thing about the patch is that, if worn at night, you won-t wake up with a craving (especially important for folks who smoke in bed) because you are getting nicotine all night instead of going 6-8 hours w/out any nicotine at all. The patch is in steps to help you cut back, but slowly so you don-t have to worry about withdrawls. There are health restrictions, of course, and you CANNOT smoke w/the patch under any circumstances. Nicotine overdose is a very serious thing.

Another option that you could talk to your dr. about is Chantix. This drug helps block the receptors in the brain that nicotine stimulates to release dopamine into your system and give you that -feel good- feeling. It will help you so that when you go to take a smoke, it isn-t a wonderful thing that you can-t get enough of.

Having counseling is good because it helps you help yourself. Perhaps -counseling- has a bad ring to it...think of it more as a point of accountability. If you know you have someone other than yourself to feel almost responsible to, you think twice before -quitting quitting-. Also, the counselor doesn-t tell you what to do. They help you find your own solutions to problems and can give suggestions.

Don-t ever feel like a failure if you try to quit and don-t at first. Many people try to quit 7-10 times before they do successfully. Instead of focusing on not being able to quit, focus on what things were positive while you were off tobacco. What were your strengths? What weaknesses can you improve upon next time?

Good luck to you!!
Be resolved that you want to quit, I mean REALLY committed.

Set a date to quit, the prepare for that date.

Get rid of all the ashtrays.

Think of some hobbies that will keep your hands and mind busy when a craving hits you.

Get a bunch of straws and sip water frequently. It helps flush the nicotine and diminishes the oral aspect of your craving.

When you crave, do deep breathing, suck the air in as you would if you were inhaling a drag. Part of our addiction is the relaxation effect you get as you smoke. Slow deep breathing helps to relax the chest and back muscles and relieves tension. It will help trick your mind into feeling satisfied.

Change your routine. eg. If you have cigs while you sit getting ready in the morning, change that habit and get ready standing up, preferably in a different room. Addiction is driving by triggers. When your brain recognizes a familiar smoking situation, it sends the -SMOKE NOW!- craving. You have to break those triggers down and reprogram your brain.

Don-t hang out with friends/family if they-re smoking for at least 3 months, longer if you can manage it. Your cravings will come in waves for months or years. They get further apart and less intense as time passes, but can blind side you into starting again if you don-t anticipate them.

DON-T HAVE EVEN ONE PUFF after you quit. That part of your brain that says -One puff won-t hurt me-, is the addicted part of your brain trying to trick you into feeding the addiction.

Shampoo your carpets, wash curtains and any other fabric surfaces in your home, bedding, clothes, etc. Wash down the walls in the rooms you smoked most too.

The residual smell of the smoke can trigger cravings. Also, if you do a major clean you can use that to combat your cravings. When you have a craving think, -I didn-t work that hard just to have to do it all over again when I have to quit again-.

Positive reinforcement is essential. Give yourself rewards for milestones. Treat yourself to something at specific intervals, like 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, a year... Make the rewards things that help motivate you to stay smoke free.

Avoid stressful people and situations for the first 3 months, if at all possible.

If you can, take a week off work, so you don-t use the stress of the job as an excuse to smoke. Also, having used a week of vacation to quit creates an investment in the process. Use that to beat the cravings with repeated mind speak, like - I-m not going to waste a week of vacation, I WILL DO THIS!-

Get out and walk or exercise as much as you can. It will help with the mental image of a healthier you, while actually making you a healthier you.

Ultimately it begins and ends with your resolve to quit. As your get closer to your set quit date, imagine a smoke free, happy, healthier you. Get a really solid mental image of yourself as a non-smoker and pull that image up as many times a day as you can stand. This will help A LOT to reprogram your mind and defeat future cravings. When a craving pops up, that smoke free mental image of yourself will be easy to access and use to defeat the craving.

Plan ahead and be committed and you-ll beat this!

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU :D

Tricks that helped you quit smoking? -

Hi everyone,
Today is my first smoke free day is about 10 years. I am doing good. Not cranky yet! So what did you do that helped you quit?
When you have to smoke start saying your children-s names over and over don-t worry about the things that they have done just say their names and just breathe...
nicotine gum
activities for the nervous energy - sports

and for the oral fixation - oral sox (but not with an o)

good luck and tell your bf i said you-re welcome ;0P

(oh and carrot sticks too)
I smoked for 10 years. I quit cold turkey! I kept away from places were people were smoking (Casinos, bars etc.) I chewed a lot of gum and kept myself busy. Don-t kid yourself this will be one of the hardest things you go through but it will also be the best! First couple weeks will be tuff but it eventually gets easy and after time you will not even think about it. I have never smoked since and its been 11 years and to this day its the best thing I have done. Good luck to you.
Its not easy. And there will come much harder days.

I smoked for 12 years, and i quit on a single day without any drugs or patches. It took a lot of me. But i made a promise to my wife and daughter and i did it for them.

The most important thing is not to just smoke one more. The first one that you smoke will be the excuse to smoke another one on times of need. Like after a stressful situation, or after a meal.
Wish you the best.
Give up coffee and cola for a few weeks because it is a scientific fact that -caffeine- makes you crave -nicotine-....so the more you drink coffee to -calm your nerves-....the worse you want a cigarette.

When you crave a cigarette so badly that you almost give in...try this: breathe in very deeply...and hold it and then breathe out. This may make you feel a bit dizzy...but after doing it a few times...the craving pains will have subsided.

And then when you get real fed up....try to think of all the money you-ll be able to save...maybe plan for a vacation with the extra money you will soon have....and think of how good you will feel the next time you go for a medical, because once you stay off tobacco, it doesn-t take long for your lungs to start to heal. Good Luck...and yes...YOU CAN DO IT!

You know what worked well for me? I didn-t smoke any more cigarettes! Seriously, I know that sounds flip and all, but f you want to quit smoking then what you really need to do is quit whining and simply don-t smoke. I quit cold turkey five years ago. I haven-t had a drag in five years. You don-t need patches or any of that other crap. You just need self control and a desire to quit. If you don-t really want to stop, then no tricks can help.
You just have to tough it out. No matter what you do, it is not going to be easy. You have to realize that eventually you will not want to smoke anymore at all, and that it will get easier. Using patches or gum just slows down the process of kicking your addiction. Also, don-t buy any cigarrettes, and throw out any that you have. You CAN-T smoke if you don-t have any cigarrettes. And unless you can bum a pack a day, you aren-t going to be smoking enough to sustain your addiction without buying any. Hope this helps. Worked for me! Good Luck!
I am on my 4th day of Chantrex. I have smoked, but instead of 2 packs a day. I have had 3 cigs a day and I drink more water and chew more gum than usual.
I didn-t do this because I was smart enough not to start. But I-ve watched my dad, who swore on my mom-s deathbed that he-d quit struggle with the enormous addiction problem. Here are some suggestions. The most effective are first.

Hypnosis
Acupuncture
Nicotine replacement
Cold turkey (didn-t work for dad)
Welbutrin (he didn-t try this, and it helped me with self-control issues)
Smoking cessation classes (didn-t work)

You-ve got to keep your mouth busy. You-ve got a habit of sucking on something, so hard candy, mints, something may help.

They suggested no coffee, since coffee + cigs go together.

There was a book on line. It looked fantastic but I didn-t bookmark it :((( and now I can-t find it. It-s a smoking cessation book based on the concept that you-re not quitting, the cigarettes, the bad habit is chasing you, and you are protecting yourself, running away and fighting so that bad habit doesn-t kill you. I heard that it-s tremendously successful, but I couldn-t find it.

I wish you the best of luck, honey. If you need a story about how smoking kills, e-mail me.

Debbie
Nicotene patches have one on now and i am at 13days free of the weed.
I quit years ago. I was smoking two packs a day over the past year at the time. I simply looked at how bad it was for me and anyone who might happen to be around me when I smoked, then decided I didn-t want to do it anymore. Since I had very good reasons for quiting, then I had a very good basis to place my resolve to quit. Having all of that I just quit cold turkey, no problem. Didn-t even miss it at all, never have wanted to start up again, am in fact disgusted by the whole smoking thing now.

Don-t know if this will help you, though.
try the patches, gum, fake cigarettes a lot of people smoke just to do something with their hands. accupuncter could work too
I needed an immediate reward. I spent the money I would have spent on smokes on treats like CDs, books, concert tickets etc. Really worked. Am 9 years smoke-free.
It-s mostly a mental strength of really wanting to quit! Keep focused on all the bad things about it, it stinks, and it really could kill you.......oh actually make you suffer first, then kill you! Coffee actually helped me, when I got a craving, I had a cup of coffe. I-m not sure that that will help everyone, cause some people like coffe with their cig........but you-ll find, if you just stay strong, the actual craving doesn-t last real long! As soon as it comes, just try real hard to get your mind focused on something else! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!
hi i am in the same boat as you i am stopping 2moro. i have stopped before and i used patches and regular chewing gum it really helped but i started again wen i was drunk lol GOOD LUCK

Has anyone used Chantix to quit smoking? How did it work for you? Did you experience any side effects? -

I used it and loved it. It worked perfect. I didn-t really want to quit, but was willing to due to family (wife) pressure. Chantix is supposed to make you cease having the desire to smoke, and that is what it did. I kept smoking while taking it, and slowly I didn-t want as many. Within a couple weeks I was wondering why I was buying smokes when I really didn-t feel like smoking them. At that point it-s purely habit as opposed to urges. Then I quit.

I didn-t take it as long as recommended. When I felt I was over it I quit taking them and I haven-t gone back. It-s been a little over a month now and I can-t see myself going back to smoking. It-s different when you quit because you really just don-t want them anymore. There-s not a bunch of suppressed urges waiting to resurface.

No side effects. Took it how they said - never even got the gas.

Good luck.
I used this kits: http://free-quit-smoking.info and it very good.

I am 5 months pregnant and can not quit smoking. I have quit drinking but I can not quit smoking? -

I was taking (4) 1 mg xanax a day for 9 years b/c of severe panic attacks and I quit taking those, I used to drink and I quit but I can not seem to quit smoking cigarettes. I am 5 months pregnant.
Well, you-re already 5 months pregnant. A lot of the baby-s development has already occurred. You-ve done most of the damage already.
Just don-t buy them! You can do whatever you want to do if you put your mind to it! I put mine down and didn-t pick them up again the day that I decided for myself that I wanted to quit. Your new baby that is trying to get a good start at life would probably really appreciate it as well. Smoking causes the babies heart rate to go up and causes low birth weight. If you don-t feel the need to stop for yourself, then please stop for your precious baby. Just think how much money you will save and with the way prices of things are today, you could even put that money that you spend on cigarettes into a savings account for his/her college. Women are strong as a whole so you can do this!Good luck!
if your baby means that much to you then it shoul not be hard to quit and just think about it when you smoke your making your babys bones smaller and weaker and it can cause a birth defect also the tar can phsicly damage a baby plus you can have a miscarage so just think about that the next time you smoke. (if it is still real hard for you then get help)
you just have to resist the temptation don-t even go to the store and buy cigarettes if you don-t have them then you cant use them. You have to understand that this is serious and could effect the baby a lot so put your selfish need to the side and start thinking about what-s important
well, by now the baby is probably hurt by this already...good one
talk to your obgyn and see what she suggests.

I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
Check out this article:

it’s the one that got me off the cigs and smoke free for GOOD even without gaining weight! :)

Good luck kicking the habit!
Matthew.
take up reading the Bible
I just went cold turkey. It was hell for about 6 months but then the craving started to taper off. I think all of these patches and gum just prolong the inevitable because sooner or later you have to go it alone. It took about a year and a half to loose all the craving.
the good news is that i now have been quit for over 5 years.. i quit trying to quit alone, and joined a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and you can attend while still smoking, before actually attempting a quit.. however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.

Is quitting smoking worth all the trouble? -

I would like to quit smoking but i hate having a -need- for cigarettes. It is not just the nicotine it is the habit itself. Is it worth all the trouble to stop?
I quit 6 weeks ago. Although I still struggle with it, it hasn-t been anything I can-t handle. Benefits though, I can breathe better, I don-t smell like smoke, food tastes sooo much better, and I don-t have to worry about when I can go smoke again.
If you can-t control your self to quit smoking well then what can you do? Smoking is stupid, I guess if you wanna die earlier no there isn-t a need to quit.

What are some tips for quitting smoking weed? -

i am 21 years old, i have been smoking pot since i was 13. i think its time for me to quit now. things in my life were great before weed and i know things will be great after. its the first couple weeks or even months that are tough. does anyone have any advice for me on how to cope with what i will be going through?
Quitting a habit is hard but can be done. I used to smoke marijuana before I was involved with Jehovah-s Witnesses. When I came to an accurate understanding of the Bible it changed my life and I decided to quit smoking weed. It was a tough decision at the time but I persevered and succeeded.
There is some amount of physical addiction regardless of what people say. I felt stressed for a while but it was not as bad as giving up cigarettes.
The No.1 of success is to have made your mind up completely that you really want to do this. You need that determination for should you be at a weak point and need the strength to continue with your ambition.
I succeeded from smoking it for years every day to now I don-t even think about it in my daily routine. That gives me a real burst of achievement satisfaction that I had beaten the habit and I am in control instead of being controlled by a drug.
I am a student nurse and I am a social smoker and I-m able to meet a lot of people who smoke (as well as those in Mental Hospital)

so here are some tips for you:
1. Smoking is not like something that you can throw in a blink of an eye so its okay that you really crave for it. But it is only at the start of it.
2. You may experience withdrawal symptoms because it is its nature. but if there-s a will there is always a way.
3. Try to eat candy specially if there is a feeling of crave. Try to fool your brain by putting an attention into another.
4. There is a gum that can help you cope with it.
5. Ask your doctor on what can he say about your problem.
6. Think of this process is not only for your own good but also for your family friends.
7. Motivate yourself.
8. It can help you cope with the process.
9. Try searching for web site that tells something about SMOKING..

note:
this is not complete...
Do NOT to quit -cold turkey- as they say, which means quitting a habit instantly. I find that it only makes you crave it more. What I suggest you do is regulating your usage. Set an amount for you to use every week or so and try and keep that routine. Then slowly reduce that amount whenever you feel like you-re smoking too much. It-s fine if it seems like it-s taking too long, just make sure you don-t increase the amount you are taking. Also try and avoid the people you normally do it with. This helps out a lot. I really hope this helps man. I-m just happy that you-re trying to stop the habit.
I-ve noticed that the only troubles I-ve ever had when taking extended breaks from marijuana use is with sleep and that-s because I-m used to smoking before bed. Other than that I had no other withdrawal symptoms or cravings. The fact that I smoke cigarettes also helps but I don-t suggest starting that because that is one habit I really wish I could get rid of. Because marijuana is so rarely addictive or very weakly it is usually sheer will power that will get you through. You can also create a rewards system for yourself to replace the one instituted by the use of cannabis. Every time you don-t smoke bud have a cookie or something. See if your doctor can help with sleep. A really good home remedy is taking something called Gaba (recommended by my psychologist you can just get this at health stores and things
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GABA)
you can also take a melatonin supplement which is like a mild serotonin, creates no dependency, no withdrawal, no chemical markers on drug tests, clears out of your system really fast, and only works about 20 minutes after you take it so go to bed right away. (

hey waddya know it affects your circadian rhythms). Anywho start with sheer will power. Move to herbal and organic sleep aids if that doesn-t work. After that talk to your doctor. No more help should really be required this but if you really need it just go to a few meeting of NA (narcotics anonymous
http://www.na.org/)

there is nothing in weed that is addiciting as far a like a chemical or anything like that(unlike cigs)really its just a mind thing.you have to really wantin to stop smoking weed.you can-t change someone unless they won-t to. so i suggest finding another vice, like drawing or gardening just another hobbie to take its place.something that will stimulate. have strong will power don-t let nothing control you. you have to control it.
you have made an excellent start by talking about it. go and see your gp to get in touch with some professional help and if in the uk there is a phone line you can call for advice.

there are a whole lot of issues to address in your life, now you have stopped this what are you going to do instead? just leaving a whole in your life will make quitting doubly hard.

what sort of thing are you interested in? any activity from joining a swimming club, salsa group or just calling learn direct to improve your qualifications would be helpfull. what time of day were you smoking because its then that you will need to be busy.

please let me know how you get on and best of luck
Honestly, just think about your future. If you ever have a great job opportunity places are starting to do hair follicle testing which can trace to years back! Is it really worth blowing something good that could come your way? Is it worth that 1 time it takes to get caught? I-ve decided to quit too and its not that hard of a choice for me because I don-t think its all that great anyway. If this country didn-t have a stick up their *** and it was legal it-d be a different story, but they take it way too seriously and its not worth being on your record. You can do it. Good luck.
Weed is not physically adictive so it shouldn-t be too difficult. Take it easy when you first give up and take up a fun hobby. Tick the days off from your calendar each day that you don-t smoke weed and give yourself a pat on the back. Don-t forget to tell your friends that you are giving up. If you feel anxious, there are tablets to relax you that you can buy from health food shops that are not addictive.
First. Throw away Youre weed. I-m 13 and i used to smoke for alittle bit, We got caught and it automatically stopped us for fear of recieving more beating and stuff lol, But definitly throw it away. Delete ur dealers number, Throaw away sources of ignition. And Keep thinking about what its doing to youre body apart from the obvious effects of -Feeling high- Just try man. itl be hard but good luck
Ask Frank.
Just stop. Weed is not addicting like cigarettes. Just stop
Just say no and stick with it. Pot is only addictive mentally.
It-s not addicting, so just don-t do it anymore.
You could always move and start all over
Just stop. Or you could turn yourself in.
