How easy is it to quit smoking? -
I have been smoking for 5 weeks now. I smoke about a pack every 2 days. How easy is it to quit smoking cold turkey for someone who has been smoking that long? And, is half a pack a day considered heavy?
You won-t know until you try. Most people don-t quit on the first try. So don-t lose faith. You will learn with each time, and eventually get there. Best to start now, and yes that is extremely -heavy-.
Even cutting down would be a great achievement.
It-s up to you how you go about it. But if you plan to quit cold turkey choose a good time and plan for it. Like plan to be busy, or off work, out of school etc. Whatever you think. If you-re a girl you could time it due to your menstrual cycle as that will put further stress on you while you-re trying to quit. You get the idea.
It is harder or easier based on your routine too. Luckily you haven-t had a smoking routine for long and it-s not an ingrained habit or anything. Unluckily for you it sounds like one of your friends might have introduced you to it. Meaning they might constantly put pressure on you or tempt you if you hang around smokers or smoky environments. Make sure all your friends know not to offer you one, and to support you.
25% of people are hooked on the first cigarette. Half a pack a day that early? You-re well hooked. Yup, that-s pretty heavy for that fast. Congratulations.
You must be a teenager, most new smokers are; teens never think there-s consequences to their actions so think that adults are just trying to keep them from smoking because -they never want me to have fun-. The cigarette companies loooooove teens, they know they-re usually lemmings easily manipulated through advertising and don-t believe the bad stuff will happen to them.
If you ever want to smell nice again, try quitting now while you have the best chance. The earlier you try to kick an addiction, the less hold it has on you.
half a pack a day is pretty heavy for someone that has been
smoking for only 5 weeks. why did u start its reaaly unhealthy and bad for you i know i sound like a moaner like other people but im serious. my dad has been smoking for over half his life hes 78 now and he can-t give up hes tried so many times over the years but he just can-t.
You should have NO PROBLEM quitting! My husband and I both quit cold turkey (not at the same time) over 20 years ago, after smoking at least a pack (or more) a day for over 15-20 years! 10 cigarettes a day for 5 weeks is almost nothing.
We are both still non-smokers. All you need is the will to quit. Then a little willpower. Go for it, hon, and good luck! :)
I quit cold turkey nearly two years ago. My husband and I wanted a very expensive car, the payments are pretty steep. I did the math on how much our smoking cost.. That-s what cured me. The money. As for my hubby, he needed patches for a couple of weeks.
As smokers, we all know it kills us, but the drug covers up any real concern. That-s why the money factor works so well.
Good Luck
my step mom said she stopped cold turkey one day 10 years ago, and havent smoked again since, my cousin smoked on and off for 8 years, and then stopped for a while 3 x before she finally stopped...shes been clean fr 2 years, but it took a year and several attempts to get there....
I smoke 1-2 packs a day and thats heavy. Its rough to quit but if you havent done it long, you-ll have an easier time. Drink coffee when you want a cig. It-ll get you wired but you will eventually stop craving the cigs.
Apparently it is harder for a smoker (smokoholic) to quit smoking than it is for an alcoholic to quit boozing.
