Anyone else failed in ALLEN CARRs the EASY WAY to Quit Smoking? -

I read his book with such determination only to fail. I really want to quit but the book just didn-t work. Anyone else?
My friend ( who quit for 6 months and gave me the book) has gone back to smoking. She is now reading the book again and setting a new quit date. Every time we quit we can learn from the experience. We learned how to smoke and become addicted to nicotine, so, we can learn how to not smoke and become addicted to a healthy life style.

I am now 2 weeks into my quit after reading the book and using nicotine replacement patches. It is easier this time, but still hard at times. Great help at site www.quitnet.com if you decide to quit again. Good luck.

What is the best thing to do to help urself if u have emphysema?..i already quit smoking 1.5 years ago? -

i lnow i can-t cure it but what can i do to make my life more better activity wise?..energy wise?..i hate this huffing - puffing all the time..am on 02 24/7, pednesone, spiriva, advasir, theo, have a nebulizer too but i still get short winded just walking to the bathroom so what can i do to strengthen my lungs?
You could be short of breath if you-re not in good shape. Try walking, even if it-s only up and down a hall way or from one room to the next. Increase this a little each day. Lay down on you bed and place you hands lightly on your abdomen. Breathe in through you nose for a count of three (your abdomen will rise) and out through your mouth for a count of 6 (your abdomen will return to normal). Take in a deep breath and blow into a baloon. Keep doing this until you blow it up. Sing, sing, and sing. Laugh as often as you can. Even with all this nothing beats walking. Start slow and increase speed and duration over time. Good luck.
the deep breathing exercises and movements of Yoga help me a lot. I have COPD and positively hate the Combivent I am on and don-t really want to go to steroids due to their effect on glucose levels.

http://www.yoga.about.com
has lots of excellent descriptions of how to do the deep breathing yoga exercises.

Any advice to quit smoking? -

I told my hubby to quit smoking during sex,
but he said it helped calm his nerves.
Well, the inevitable finally happened, my friends!
His cigarette caught fire amidst his gentlemanly duties,
and we had ourselves our own burning bush to put out,
except this one didn-t have any messages from God.
It just left your friend OCL with 1st degree burns,
bedridden in a diaper full of neosporin.
The good news is the hubby finally decided to quit smoking in bed! Any ex-smokers-in-bed with advice on what works?
I always heard that smoking during sex was an indication for a lack of lubrication.... check into some gel or maybe ask him to slow down a bit.
fore more details of relation with smoke and sex visit
http://sexeducation4u.blogspot.com/2007/11/does-smoking-affect-sex-life.html
Look i can help u decrease the number of cigs u drink but i dont guarantee u permenantly to stop drinking ,, look u must first of all be really accepting to the quitting thing and so , after that u must begin alowly as like ,,, first if u drink 10 cigs try smoking 9 ,, after a week try 8 then 7 then go on as little as u can until ur ready to stop
every time you want to smoke a cigarette, just punch yourself in the face and you will lose the desire. but you must do it every time or this program doesnt work.
I-m so sorry that this has happened to you;-( I-m glad he has stopped smoking in bed but I would have to suggest maybe chew instead. It can add a very cool feeling during oral and help improve the flavor. Good luck and I think some aloe will help also. I-m a DR. too, because I watch Grey-s Anatomy.
I tried different ways but when I fnally quit it was just cold turkey. You really have to want to quit and you have to say you quit, not I-m trying to quit. It also helps to have someones support like I did, my girlfriend didn-t push me to stop but helped me keep me going through it. If I was with someone that smoked I never could have done it. Biggest thing is you have to want it and have a lot of will power.
maybe he needs to wear the patches that do help you can get from the doctors on prescription ,but im not sure that i would even think about entertaining someone smoking whilst having sex he was most probaly not even thinking about you and where would he flick his ash.

How do I quit smoking? -

The following is an answer I gave to an earlier post:
For me, the hardest part about quitting was removing all of the associations around smoking. Example, whenever I had a beer, I had a cigarette. Whenever I finished eating, had a cigarette. You get the idea. I purposely and deliberately -weeded out- all the associations I had with smoking until I only had a few. In other words, I consciously did not smoke after each of these other co-occurring activities, until the urge was diminished. Once this was done, I had already reduced my smoking to a few cigarettes a day. To completely quit, it was a combination of negative imagery and getting the flu. I imagined coating my lungs with a thick goo of tar and nicotine while I smoked. I was never able to smoke when I had a cold or the flu, so after 5 days of various orifice purging, I realized I could probably go another few days without. Bottom line for me: discipline of living how you want.
As for the stress, good time to involve yourself in a very detailed kind of hobby, like model rocketry or exercise like biking. If you can weather through the first few days, you-ll start to feel the benefit of being able to breathe without getting winded, and smell wonderful scents of nature and/or aromas of baking and cooking seemingly for the first time! Good Luck!
You are very welcome. Best wishes~

cold turkey
go to jail for a week
I just recently quit. I tried the Nicorette gum, and they tell you to chew 1 piece every 1 to 2 hours for 6 weeks, then gradually ween yourself off of nicotine. I basically used it for a crutch until I was able to handle the withdrawal symptoms. So, I chews a piece here and there when I would get an urge to smoke. Dealing with the withdrawal symptoms wasn-t the hard part. It was the habits that come with smoking that were hard.
IE. having a smoking after eating, smoking while your on the phone, computer, etc.

You have to change your life around so it doesn-t remind you of smoking. If you can get through that, you can quit.

Also, you have to truly want to quit. Otherwise, you wont have enough will power.

Good luck! :)
Gradually, for me it took one year to quit..
i recently quit, usually i did smoke when i drank but now that i can drink w/o smoking, i quit completely~!
Try to surround yourself with supportive people during ts difficult time. And if you can go the first three days with one smoke, you have gotten over one of the hardest parts.
Everyone I know of that did it succesfuly (and I mean stayed off it forever not just a few months) went cold turkey.
Will power.

Is any body there quit smoking and not put weight on? -

i quit smoking i cant stop eating.
yes i quit smoking a few years since and the trick is to identify when you are really hungry and when you are just having a craving, i know its boring but chewing gum helps as does drinking a glass of water also try to plan activates around the day so you wont think about smoking or eating to replace the habit. good luck and remember if you do put any weight on that it can be lost with exercise and a good diet, cancer cant be lost so you have to weigh up the risks.
chew gum
Yes I did..and lost weight also..all I did was not to replace one bad habit with another and started working out four times a week on the Bow-flex system, worked for me!!
Yeah- a couple of men I know- me, I gained a little weight, but it is only a walk away. Breathing is awesome- so is the extra money. If you-re eating- change what it is that you are eating so that you aren-t getting saturated or trans fats. Oatmeal, Cheerios, and Special K help fill you, regulate digestion and lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Veggie sticks or Special K cereal bars have only 90 calories. Small bananas have only 90 calories. Stay away from french fries, snack cakes, certain crackers, chips and cookies. Learn how to make natural fruit smoothies- you do have alternatives.
That-s always a danger when you give up smoking. You need to find something else to occupy your time. Cigarettes are an excellent hunger suppressor, but the health benefits of not smoking are more important.
I personally have not smoked, but I do know someone who was able to quit and not gain weight. The problem is, smoking is a habit. When you quit a habit, you replace it with another habit. Most people find eating to be that other habit. If you want to quit smoking and not gain weight, you have to replace the smoking habit with something else, such as crafts, sports, typing.. anything to keep your hands busy. You can-t just stop a habit dead. You need to replace it with something else.
i don-t think so... try eating lots of protein it should fill u up
Yes I gave up the dreaded weed 3 years ago,and took up gardening and I-ve lost over 3 stone.(also stopped drinking alcohol).
simple continue to eat what you ate before since any additional hungry is then deffinatly due to lack of cigs, do more exercise during the quitting period
Chew on ice chips and get more active.

Quit smoking and gaining weight, HELP? -

I-m so fustrated. I quit smoking for the second time and gaining weight. It has been 2 1/2 months and have gained 20 lbs. I gained 40 the last time. I ended up gaining addt-l 20 and had a breast reduction because the weight was so hard on my back. After that surgery I lost all my weight, but was smoking again. I-m so upset. I go to jazzercise 3 times a week, walk almost everyday, I thought this would help, but it-s not. What can i snack on that won-t pack on the weight, help???
Sounds like you have an oral fixation and when you quit smoking you are so used to the hand-to-mouth motion that you start eatting more.

You are working out a good amount, but the problem is you are eatting more calories than you are burning. Try to replace the chewing motion with things that are good for you that burn calories while eatting them. Snack on celery, carrots, cucumbers. Carry a bottle of water around with you and you can have the same motion with drinking water all day long. You can screw the lid closed and open each sip to give your hands something to do. Make sure you aren-t carrying a coke bottle or you-ll drink all of the soda--which is not a healthy alternative.

Everytime you feel the urge to -smoke- something, fight instead. My friend had a punching bag in his office that he would spend 5 min punching when he used to take his cig breaks. Punching takes out the frustration and requires too much concentration to still be thinking about the cigs.

That is perfectly normal. Many people sub in M-Ms or Skittles for the cigs and end up gaining 30 lbs. Consider replacing those with things that you suck on a long time--jolly ranchers, gobstoppers. That way you won-t be packing on the calories. Try the patch or lozenges to help you quit--that will reduce the need for nicatine which often leads to the automatic reflex of eatting. Just remember that quitting smoking is the best thing to do and even if you put on 10 lbs to quit--your body is healtier 10 lbs overweight than it would be if you continued smoking.
I know people tell you carbs are your enemy but their really not, they fill you up so you dont have the urge to constantly snack..try oatmeal and drink lots of water also, salads have hardly any calories..make a huge salad and make sure to drink lots of water afterwards.
I quit smoking almost a year ago..and I have been loosing weight and getting healthy ever since.
There are three reasons why people tend to put on weight when they quit smoking:
1.Generally, for most people their appetite improves because the toxins in tobacco have the effect of suppressing appetite. It’s tragic that this is one reason why young women start to smoke, because they believe it will help them keep weight off. When your appetite improves you may find you want to eat more. ADVICE: Eat healthily and get active. That means nutritious foods in satisfactory portions – don’t pig out on rubbish foods with high sugar, fat and salt content and do some exercise.
2.The minor physical withdrawal symptoms from nicotine feel exactly like being a bit hungry. So don’t make the mistake of trying to satisfy the withdrawal from nicotine with food. ADVICE: Recognise that during the first 5-7 days the empty hungry feeling isn’t real hunger. Have a drink of water or do a quick relaxation exercise instead of eating.
3.Many smokers make the mistake of searching for a substitute to replace the cigarette. Often this will be lollies or high calorific snacks like chocolates, biscuits, cream cakes or sausage rolls! ADVICE: Do not use any substitutes – you don’t need them.

If you follow this advice you won’t put on weight, in fact you’ll lose it, because once you quit you’ll feel much more motivated to get out there and be active.

Good luck!

Allen Carr’s Easyway To Stop Smoking http://www.allencarr.com.au/states/qld
All you need to do is do some running/ jogging every day (30mins to an hour) and you-ll never gain one single pound.

Good luck!
Try stepping up your exercise - start lifting weights - do more intense cardio, that sort of thing. And definitely find healthy snacks (fruits, veggies) and rid your house of junk food.
if you snack on fresh fruits and veggies then your eating healthy, which is all you can do. especially since your already working out. plus...id much rather be somewhat overweight than end up with lung problems...so its a good trade off. :)

What is best way to quit smoking? -

In past I tried patchs, gums, but I end up lighting up. Any suggestions?
The only way to quit smoking is to become properly motivated. Sorry, but I have no advice on how to do that. I tried many times to quit smoking myself before it finally took. If you are not really ready to quit, you will not be able to quit no matter what you do. If you are ready to quit, I think any method will work.
drink milk before you light up.
learn to retrain your subconcious...
and your habits~
been smoke free for almost a year now and i read some self improvement motivational book that wasn-t about smoking and it helped me see the habit and how to break it!
it was hard at first but like everything it takes work!
here is what i did. some of it is silly but it worked!
and it-s FREE!

1. start changing your thought pattern tell youself at any
chance givin I live a healthy smokefree lifestyle. I enjoy the clean air i breath. you want to keep these in the positive you don-t want to say I quit smoking even thought that-s good you are using a negitive word! so stop using them (this was the hardest part i think due to really watching my thoughts and what i spoke! starts at the thoughts) so knock out those negitive voices you konw the onse:
( i-ll never stop smoking , i can-t do this, this is too hard)
Yes you can stop smoking people do it every day it is hard so is life!

While you do this your allow to smoke i mean for real i-m not going to tell you to stop you will tell yourself when your ready!

2. change the habit! - retrain your brain!
every time you light up put the smoke down or out (at least for a moment!)_ and jump clap your hands do something active dance anything silly! Why you do this is so you change up the pattern you just told your subconcionse that your still liveing even thought your not smoking at that moment!
you will have to do this for a while and hopefull you can start to cut back this way again i-m not going to tell you stop but when you do this activity ask yourself do i really want this after all that clapping.. (mine was yes for a while)

3. just do this over and over untill you think you can mentally figure yourself out to change up your habits!
it is not easy! but bottom line over anything you have to really want to quit for yourself not for a loved one you must want to quit fully mind heart and soul!

dont be hard on yourself I cheat once in awhile i will be honest there! but i haven-t had a pack of smokes in almost ayear

another great tip is to stay away from people who smoke and places your are more inclinded to smoke.. like a bar! at least untill you think you can handle it..
Greetings. Congrats on wanting to quit I personally used Chantix (over 7 months) and swear by it. I also started a yahoo group for people trying to quit with extensive files, links, news etc. attached that can answer ANY question you might have about smoking and quitting. Acurately. Feel free to have a look and Take Care.....................R

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Sta…

You know, this might work. Whenever you want to smoke, just chew the cigarette and swallow it down. You will realize just how bad it taste that you-ll wonder how the heck did you smoke in the first place.
My mom had tried several times (she used gum, patches, you name it) without any success. This last time she tried will power and Chantex. So far she has been very successful and has gone 7 months without a cigarette. My aunt has also tried Chantex and had great success. She has been smoke free for about 5 months. Maybe you could try that???? You will need a prescription to get it though.
Imbibe large quantities of Scotch and pass out for three days. When and if you awake the craving will be reduced considerably.
one day at a time keep remembering that it is just -today i am not going to smoke- tell yourself that everyday n it could help you
Just stop smoking. You have to be strong to do it. But if you really want to quit you can
Just stop buying them, don-t give in to temptation and you will get through it.

Oh and watch your snacking during the first month, anytime you crave a cig get a glass of water and think about something else.

Best of Luck to you
Try replacing each cigarette you want for a small snack that you really like...

or

just don-t have cigarettes in your sight...like that, you won-t be so tempted to light up!
A Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking- will give you a wealth of information and advice.
I am in the same boat; so, I gonna go see my doctor. Everyone is different when trying to quit.
I have been told that exercise is good, but it-s like 100 degrees outside right now.

I-m 14 and my mom smokes cigarettes. She quit for a while got back into it again, heavy. What are some things or little facts I could tell her to make her realize she needs to quit? I-m worried about her health, I don-t want to lose her.
Does she hide her ashtray and whatnot or?
If you know where it is, I think maybe it would be a good and thoughtful idea to write her a little note with how you feel about her smoking and set it where she will see it like on the ashtray. Maybe write something along the lines of you care about her and do not like to see her do things like that to herself. It would be nice to tell her you will help her and give her support to quit. :)
If possible take her to a hospital and show her all the dying people and people with holes in their throats.

Explain that you dont want to be motherless, or have any health damages to yourself.
You can-t force her to quit but you can show her the consequences of smoking by showing pictures of the lungs, taking her to visit a doctor so he can inform her, ect.
my friend got her mom to stop she would find her ciggarettes hide them or throw them away and replace them with a pack of niccorette i know its kind of pushy but it was for her own good
find out where shes stacks them all and trash them!
im 13 and i have the same problem...

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
This was the best way for me and I was smoking almost two packs a day when I quit. I-d smoked for about 8 years. I-d smoked off and on as a teenager.

I wrote a list of reasons why I wanted to quit. I read it everyday. Then I bought the generic nicotine gum and followed the directions exactly. In about three months I had quit needing the gum completely. It-s been 4 years now without a single drag or cigarette.

Also when I quit I was working at a place where almost all my coworkers smoked and we could even smoke while on the job which made it even tougher. I couldn-t have quit without the nicotine gum.
I think the best way is to actually tough it out, my method was going cold turkey, and whenever I craved, I go out and run around for a while, sweat it off a bit, it-s probably going to be hard for the first few weeks, but this is a guarantee if you-re off it, you-re completely off.

in generaly, the best way is to have self-control, anything can be overcome mentally.
Most people say the only way to do it is cold turkey, it might be really hard at first but eventually you will get through it and your health will thank you. I also know a few people who have had success with Chantix prescription medication, but it may have side effects.
The best way, I believe is to follow the advice of Nancy Reagan. Just say no. Don-t buy any, don-t ask for any. Picture yourself as a non-smoker. Take a deep breath. Tastes fresh, doesn-t it?

Has anyone out there successfully quit smoking and will never go back again? How long? -

Has anyone out there successfully quit smoking and will never go back again? How long? -

What was your technique for quitting?
I did....11 years...COLD Turkey...take a week off, volunteer in a hospital-s cancer ward during that week and watch lung cancer patient as they are dying...if that is not motivation enough....post your question again!
I did successfully quit for over a year through hypnosis. If you-re wary go to the session without participating to see what it entails. Usually smoking is attributed to some trauma or need, so you have to battle that first or you may never quit -FOR GOOD-. What hypnosis helps you do is find and reprogram that initial connection and actually takes away 100% of the craving, the smell, the habit. You can always go cold turkey, but I found myself inhaling ashtrays for that missed odor, or sneaking, -just a puff- from friends. Good luck to you. It truly is worth the battle. Rely on your family or friends, or seek out God to get you through this.
k My dad quit smorking in a snap. Just dont do it and if you have the erg to then hurt your self....like punch yourself were it hurts.
I quit smoking 30 years ago, from 3 packs day to nothing no patch no nothing just do it
I started smoking crack instead.
Yes, I have, quit early 1997, I smoked 40 a day, but I had a big incentive, I was told unless I stopped smoking I would lose my legs!! yes no doubt you, just like me, didn-t know it affected peoples legs, clogs up the veins in your legs, and no doubt elsewear, never even craved for one since, and saved a heap of money, had to have my veins ballooned, to make my legs work again, I thank my lucky stars, that I can walk again.
There are many companies that charge money for ways that don-t work.

now I am expected to give you advice on free ways that do work.

the sad part is you won-t listen to me and will try all the money scamming ways because the rich or so honest(sarcasim)

there are many articles on www.quitsmoking.com all free.

i read them all and decided to quit cold turkey after trying every other way possible. Patch, gum, pills, cutting down, none of them worked for me.

I had quit cold turkey once before and went for one year and failed when stress came into my life and I relapsed after smoking just one cigarette.

This time I did it, got rid of all my cigarette stuff, like empty packs and ashtrays and then went cold turkey. The first couple of weeks were hell but I stuck with it. I smoked for 15 years.

My motto was and is -never take another puff-

Its been a few years and i have no reason to change even though many fake friends come into my life and make me feel like they won-t be my friends unless i smoke with them. These corupters I leave behind.

All the best and that will be $19.99 please :)
In my case, it took myself getting a pretty bad lung infection to quit smoking. I was coughing up brownish-green phlegm and having to use an inhaler just to feel like I could temporarily get a good breath. I thought to myself -If this is anything like what emphysema or lung cancer feels like, then forget smoking.- Previous to my lung infection, I had quit while I was pregnant with my children but always went back to it due to stress. So basically, you have to decide what-s more important to you...a quick fix or a beginning to a healthy life. Just remember to take it one step at a time...it may take two or three tries before you finally quit but just remember...atleast you-re trying and that-s what counts.

...Should also give credit to my 11 yr. old daughter. She was a big help while I was trying to quit and a big motivator.
yep...i quit in 1999...haven-t smoked since...i quit cold turkey when i found out i was pregnant...
I-ve been nicotine-free for over ten years and don-t intend to go back. I quit cold-turkey, but I don-t recommend that method for everyone because I was miserable (and made just about everyone around me miserable) for about 3 weeks. If you-re thinking about quitting smoking, the big things that helped me were eating better and working out every day. I didn-t give up everything I loved to eat, but I ate a lot more fruits and vegetables and a lot less fast food/junk food. Jogging and other cardiovascular exercises were very tough in the beginning, but it got easier and once the initial 3-week misery wore off I was feeling better than I ever had in my life.
well it was actually pretty easy. you see, i-m dead. i died from smoking. if you don-t want to be just like me, then i suggest you muster up some willpower and just quit. cold turkey is the way to go.

If I quit smoking will my sexual performance improve? -

It could. Nicotine constricts blood vessels and therefore blood flow to extremities and skin ( along with a lot of major organs ) so it could absolutely have a positive effect on your sex like if you were to quit now
Yes...that is all that needs to be said. If anything, do it for yourself man....kick the habbit and your whole life well get better.
You wont end in a coughing fit...
I heard that too. So I quit. It didn-t help one bit. But now I don-t smoke.
Yeap you will have better sex .... it-s the same if u eat healthy and exercise regularly u will have better sex .... its the endorphines i love them !!
Ummm... I don-t think that! Smoke consequence comes during the old age with ED mainly! Performance gets others causes (some genetic even) and becomes affected by smokes only in a minimal part.
Yes. and you will have much stronger orgasms and more of them.
Yes, but you want to make sure you don-t die from smoking, that would be my priority. lol
yes there is a posibility since now you would not be puting toxins in your body
Yes.

How did you quit smoking? -

for those of you that have smoked in the past how did you quit? i want my husband to quit. i know he will say it-s not easy and i don-t understand but i want to buy something and hope he uses it.
I stopped putting cigarettes in my mouth and lighting them.. And was really short tempered with people for about a month.
Well it started with me not wanting to smoke at all anymore. Then once I thought it hard to stop, I asked God multiple times for His help. I wanted to quit but it was so hard...He worked on me and in me until the thing was finished. It-s finished thank GOD!!! :D Sometimes people need strength beyond themselves. However it happens though, I hope your husband can quit for his sake as well as yours!
i had this problem with my ex-boyfriend... you really cant make them quit.. they have to do it on their own. you picked him and you should have known thats the person he is... if he loves you and sees that it hurts you (regardless of whether you can come up with a specific answer as to why he should quit) then he needs to quit...

you shuld have him go to the doctor.. they can perscribe things that work better than over the counter stuff
I quit cold turkey.

Wasn-t easy.

I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day when I quit!

You really have to want to quit to be successful.

I used some small hard candies to help.

I kept them in the same pocket as I kept my cigarettes. It gave me something to reach for and something to do with my hands when I was craving.

It-s been 22 years. The scary part is that I feel I could go back in a minute. When you quit, never ever ever ever take another drag.

You can-t make someone else quit if they don-t want to. It will be a fight you will never win.
I know I struggle with quitting all the time. I go through periods where I wont smoke, but then I give into temptation. I know I am a strong person that is why its so frustrating that I can-t quit. Then I started talking my therapist about it one day and realized sometimes you have to remember why you started to figure out why you cant stop. For me I started smoking 3 years ago when i found out the truth about how my father died. Ever since I smoke as a way to relieve, stress, depression, and anxiety although smoking has a negative affect on all those things. But somewhere in my mind I see that stick as a security blanket, thats why its hard. I quit for awhile, but when my friend was murdered a few months back I started again. Im like a child with a blanket. Basically what Im saying is his addiction could be linked with something deep down inside, so have the long grueling emotional talk because at least its a starting point. I know to quit I have to fight my demons also... Also he should see his doctor...
It is all in his head. If he has a strong powerful mind, it is easy. Gum, a lot of gum is also helpful.
it-s all in backbone ,if u have u can stop it just like me,i was smoking very much and i stoped it by my backbone
I never smoked
It-s not as easy as saying that. You have to be in the right mindset.

For me personally, I used patches for about a week then went cold turkey. I still get cravings after 6 months but I am able to overcome them. They are also well and truly few and far between.

I guess I could also give you the advice of acknowledging your weak points and figuring out ways to overcome them. For me, it was when I was bored, after a meal or when I finished something like an assingment aswell. I just had a glass of water to get my mind off the cravings and help them pass a lot easier.

You also have to remember: you can-t MAKE someone quit, they have to make the choice themselves.
The Lung Association gave a presentation at my workplace. They brought a big jar with a real lung in it. They said it was a lung of a heavy smoker. Well, it was so GROSS, I went home and took my cigarettes and threw them in the trash. I-ve not smoked since. To this day I can still that blacktar on the lung.

Allen Carr-s book -Easy way to stop smoking- is a life saver. Myself and my hubbie have both stopped this way and neither of us ever crave now. Tried it all other ways before, but this book is fab. He even tells you not to stop while you-re reading it, so it-s not even scary to start.
Good luck
You cant stop, no one can, they are all liars, you enjoy, neah, you pay for the privilege of sucking in nicotine into your lungs and shortening your life.I started to resent every cig i had and looked at a fillet steak,or a packet of cigs, its ridiculous,i pay to kill myself but wont treat myself to a nice, juicy, thick, fillet steak.(veggies substitute fillet steak with big cream bun)
I quit on the spot 10 years ago. Admit-tingly i was frightened into it from the sight of the scars on my fathers chest from a by-pass op. You have to find something else to do with your hands, mine was guitar playing and now i cant stand the smell of smoking. Sugar free gum is good as well and I am a long distance lorry driver which gets very boring. Try your best and good luck to you both
Hi, I have been off cigs now for nearly 3 weeks and am using Nicotine patches and they are great I have tried everything else to no avail.
im trying..but losing...its really hard to quit...
Giving up smoking is easy...I-ve done it hundreds of times! Sticking to it is sooo hard, I would also be glad for any usefull tips.
I gave up smoking last new year-s eve, I read a book by Allen Carr, called the easy way to STOP SMOKING, I had given up by page 38, its not scare tactics, it makes you see what a bloody mug you are, and now nearly a year on, I see people smoking and feel sorry for the pour, stupid pillocks. And it STINKS
I should be but I-m too lazy and selfish. I quit a few years ago and what helped me then was Zyban pills. I get really moody when I quit smoking but this helped me through that. But like any other method, it-s that little brain thingy that has to be ready before you try anything. Zyban is a drug and you should discuss it with your doctor. You start taking the pills before you quit and your-e not supposed to have to think about it too much. You do this for aout 10 days and then you should be smoking less. You continue taking the drug for a couple of months after you manage to quit. It helps with the mood swings and for some people lessens cravings for food as replacement.
My mistake was that I quit taking it too early so it was rather hard but I managed to quit for a year.

Good luck to you and let me know if you find the magic solution
i tried them patches but found them hard to light
i tried once and managed 2 weeks. im desperate to quit again but severly lacking willpower which is one of the main things you need to quit the cigs. i was doing so well b4 - set a quit date - threw out everything to do with cigs and kept myself busy.sadly relapsed after a very stressful 7 hour journey with my 3 year old son!
willing to be a quit buddy if you interested..just drop me an email.
i quit 10days ago after bein a smoker for 7 years (im only 21 though!) i realised i couldnt afford to smoke so just stopped buying cigarettes.

if you-re ready enough to quit it shouldnt be too hard. i found it quite hard cos i quit cos i couldnt afford it, not cos i wanted to quit which made it harder.

wait till you-re really ready to quit before you try

good luck x
I quit six months ago but after a stressful situation a few weeks ago I started again but am determined to quit again and am going for my first session at my local hospitals Smoking cessation clinic tonight as it worked for me last time.

I used patches and had a nicotine inhaler as a back up for those really stressful situations.

Good luck with your attempt!
I gave up smoking two weeks ago and believe me I really enjoyed smoking for the first 14 years of my 20 a day habit. It is important to look at your relationship with cigs as you would any other dis-functional relationship. You need to examine the pros an cons of your affair with the weed. it is my 2nd attempt at giving up, and this time I feel very confident about ditching the habit for good. The secret is you must be ready to give up. (sounds simple, and it is,) You have to have reached the stage in your relationship with cigs where smoking is intolerable. It should feel like the natural end of a negative chapter ( you wouldn-t stay in an unhappy relationship.) I am also taking Zyban, which has taken the edge of my cravings, and now I go through days where I no longer think about smoking at all. Take it a day at a time. Just promise not to smoke each day, you-ll be amazed how effective it can be. Good Luck. U can do it.
When all else has failed, just give in to the addiction. Light up. Inhale. Enjoy. As you smoke, have your devoted husband stand above with bucketfull of water. Tell him to pour the bucket of water over your head whenever he wishes.

This will work.

You will be de lighted.

.
Be prepared for weight gain. I gained about 40 pounds about 3 tears ago and have finally lost them (I didn-t really try to lose them till this year).
I gradually cut way back on my smoking. I was smoking about 3/4 of a pack when I decided to try quitting. Try to avoid as much stress as possible when you try to quit. I had just started a 2 week vacation so I didn-t have work stress to worry me, home stress was easy to handle. When you get to your last pack, try to make it last. I smoked 1/2 of a cigarette at a time and tried to wait until I REALLY NEEDED a smoke. When the last one is gone DON-T buy more. Fight the urge because if you cut back then you shouldn-t be feeling much physical withdrawal, It is mostly psychological. I didn-t empty my last ashtray so I rooted around in it and occasionally lit a butt for one last hit. Pitiful, and nasty tasting, but after about 2 days I didn-t even want to do this. I only quit because the price was going so high and probably would still smoke if they were still cheap. Please don-t get all high and mighty with smokers when you finally do quit, there-s nothing more annoying than a former smoker who has to confront every smoker and tell them to quit. Good Luck!
I don-t know if this will help or not . Good luck though.

i gave up in august, after i went for a cervical smear and showed severe abnormalities, and one of the causes is smoking,so from the day on i gave up smoking,im 31 and have a 8yr old and 10 month daughter, just the thought of not being here for my kids scared the living daylights out of me,apart from putting on weight(which i will lose)the only time i want a ciggie is when i have a drink,so now i dont drink.I feel so much better, please please keep it up,dont give in,
I gave it the cold turkey, easy. One of those will power concepts that a shrink (or a philosopher) keep ranting on about.

Maybe you can find a replacement like chocolate or sweets for whenever you get the inkling.

And stay away from those nicotine patches!!
Try not to think of it as a battle more of a triumph every day is one less nail in your coffin I found raw carrot sticks and oranges a help. Whenever a craving strikes take five deep breaths and say -I don-t smoke thank you- after each breath. Bankrupt the killers.
Put yourself in the best environment to quit smoking. Don-t be around smokers at all. Throw your ashtrays and lighters away. Buy gum. Change your routines. Don-t drink any alcohol. Nicotine patches only reinforce your addiction to nicotine. ... Actually, the addiction to nicotine fades. What-s really hard to deal with and perhaps never goes away is the psychological addiciton. I used to smoke, and whenever I get tired or have a beer, I immediately start thinking of smoking. Don-t ever give in. I always made myself very afraid of smoking, thinking about how it would make me die slowly. The longer you go without smoking -- after a week or so, that is -- the easier it gets. Take some time off work if you can, and read a lot. Preoccupy yourself with not smoking. Exercise is absolutely wonderful on the body and mind during the attempts to quit smoking. There is also a prescription medication I heard of that is supposed to work well, but you can probably do it without that if you really, truly desire to stop smoking.
No, you see I have never smoked. I wish you best of luck and hope you successfully quit! Your hubby should give you lots of support and love!
I have heard that giving up cigarettes is the singlemost difficult addiction to conquer: worse than any street or prescription drung around. I have been a smoker all my life and have managed to quit (way earlier when I was younger) before for about a year each time. The biggest factor is Desire. Be sure you really want to give them up and then the rest is sort of easy! There are lots of methods available to assist you. Good luck!
If your husband stopped while you are still smoking he must have gone through hell. At least you don-t have the problem of stopping while there are cigarettes in the house, so it must be easier for you.

Quitting smoking is a great opportunity to learn about ourselves, as you have already observed.
Congratulate yourself on having the desire to stop - then you are over the worst, but still need to maintain your resolve. It-s just so easy to start thinking that just one won-t hurt, but it does. Just one achieves nothing except feeling the need for another. Whatever you do, don-t have just one. Beware - alcohol will weaken your resolve.
Here-s a few home-brewed tips that might be useful.
It-s not just nicotine addiction - there are 50+ chemicals in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something-, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
We will have a few bouts of feeling or even being short tempered. We must try to bite our lip, and control; ourselves. Recognise the short temper as being the removal of toxins which are trying to find a way out. They went in through the mouth, and they try to get out that way to. We must learn to keep our mouth closed, and force the toxins out the other way.

After we have stopped for a while we will begin to feel that just one wont to any harm.
All that leads to is a desire for just another one. We must guard very strongly against the desire to have just one.
I have not smoked for 18 months and it is the best thing I have ever done. I read Allan Carrs Easy Way to Quit Smoking and just as long as you really want to quit and keep an open it will work for you too. P.S - it is soooo worth it, good luck.
Were there is a will there is a way!!!!!!! Its not food, its not pills!!!! All it is: THE MIND! Your decision! Go and make a list way you want to quit. Do your really want to? Because if you really really want to, you will!!!!! I-ve done it without substitutes, I’ve just said I’m a lady and it makes me feel bad and it makes me stink and I don’t want to smoke anymore and just there and then I stopped smoking. In the, morning when you wakeup, just say to yourself I wont smoke today! It’s all in your head! When you fail to stop yourself, don’t give up, just try again and again and you will succeed! One thing that will make you stronger is exercise! Fitness! YOU CAN DO IT! YOU WILL DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!… GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
tried e.thing available and it didnt work but will power did k have put on a stone but i-ll soon loose it i-m sure. chud and boiled sweets was all i needed and the math sums pinned up e.where of how much i used to spend it aint easy mind but all the best x
tic tacs, nic gum, regular gum, sugarless gum,Put all the money you use to spend on smokes in a jar-The cravings fade and the money piles up. Worked for me.

Has anyone taken Chantix to quit smoking? -

I-m thinking about it and wondering how effective it is.
My sister in law used Chantix to quit smoking after 25+ years, and has not started back up. I have had several patients that have tried it successfully as well. I have heard that it works better than Welbutrin. When combined with a good smoking cessation program and possibly a nicotine replacement such as the patch or gum, it is much more successful than quitting -cold turkey.-
According to the Phizer website, Chantix should be taken for 12 weeks ( www.chantix.com ). They also provide a support plan to help Chantix patients quit at no additional charge.
I have taken Chantix and it really works great...the cravings for a smoke, just aren-t there.....make sure that you take the entire prescription, and they say to take it for 6 months....my insurance only covered 2 goes of it. (so you might want to check with the doctor about coupons they have for $20 off for when your insurance gives you the boot).
For the first week you smoke on them....then you just get a sick feeling in your stomach after that, and you don-t want to smoke....I had problems eating sweets as well (like donuts with my coffee in the morning) it seemed to make my stomach upset....but hey, you don-t gain weight eating a bunch of sweets either. :)
Chantix therapy has proven to be effective in -smokers motivated to quit -

I do not smoke, hence no need of Chantix. But I have seen many of my friends have gone to Chantix or similar one, but majority of them, started smoking again.

I feel, any person who wants to quit a habit needs strong mind. Medicines may help to certain extent, but some people just could not resist. Very strong will power, can only helps to quit a habit.
Chantix is a very effective way to quit smoking with few side effects. For more Chantix information, please click the following link:

Yes, I heard it-s effective. But it costs a bomb, though.
Why not try alternative ways? I read this free guide and have quit for 3 months since.
As a healthcare provider I have prescribed this for a number of my patients. My patients all had good results. I recommend taking the full six months of therapy to resist relapse. It works 100% against nicotine cravings and taking away the pleasure responce that smokers get when they smoke. What it cannot do is take away the -habit- part of smoking. That will take effort on your part. But it is alot easier to stop when you have no cravings.
