I quit smoking but dream about it every night? -

I quit smoking 3 weeks ago and this past week I-ve dreamt about cigarettes every night. Just wondering if any other previous smokers had this happen. It makes me want to smoke when I wake up.
I-ve never understood the attraction of smoking. There-s so much that people KNOW is negative about it before they even start, so why do they?
I quit 25 days ago and have still dreamed about it twice. Not a fun dream, but its just a dream. I hope you are still quit.

pick up sunflowers seeds and start eating them soon the salt will make u forget mabye .........
good luck. it-s very hard in the beginning and especially at the regular times you used to smoke, but it will get easier.
Congratulations on quitting. It is one of the hardest things a person can do. Dreaming of smoking is totally normal when you quit smoking. You may even find that years later you still have an occasional smoking dream and you wake up feeling guilty like you really did smoke. For more information on quitting smoking go to quitsmoking.com
i think you should give you some more time to quit it. i mean you can help yourself in quiting it by using some medicines that would help you in this way- when you will take these medicines continuously , after some time youwould not feel the need to smoke . ask your doctor for this but this is not an allopathic treatment this is indian homeopathic medicine.believe me, it will work all the best.
TRUST ME COMING FROM A SMOKERS IVE QUIT MANY TIMES. THE MAIN THING IS HOW QUIT. IF YOU QUIT USING THE PATCHES OR QUIT COLD TURKEY THAT ISNT ENOUGH. YOU HAVENT GOT RID OF THE FIXATION. YOU COULD TRY THE NICOTINE INHALER. IT IS VARY EFFECTIVE AND YOU DONT GAIN ANY WEIGHT NEITHER BECAUSE YOU ARE CURING THE MOUTH FIXATION. TRY IT AND LET ME KNOW.
The dreams will eventually stop. If you are having a hard time riding out the cravings, you should try the Commit lozenge (there-s also a generic brand of it at Wal-greens that is much cheaper). It helped me when I quit, and definitely cut back on the urge to start back up.
i quit to n sometimes feel like smokin but i promised my self won-t until one year...n i m true to my word so...but should hav promised i never would smoke...
I quit over a year ago and i still have that from time to time. Stay strong.
Congrats on the 3 weeks!

I had dreams when I quit.

Your sub conscious is trying every which way it can to get you to go back. Don-t do it. I-m sure you-ve had the -just one won-t hurt, then I can quit again- discussion with yourself. Don-t listen to that one either. The fallacy in that argument is that if you went back, you didn-t quit.

The dreams will stop when your body gets used to the fact that you-ve quit and you no longer crave the nicotine. It-s been 20 years and I don-t remember when that happened with me. I made up this phrase I would say every once in a while - -hours turn into days, days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months, months turn into years-. That got me thru some tough days. Lighting one up would erase the progress I-d made - this got more important as the time grew.

Good luck! It gets easier as the time increases.
I-ve dreamed about it a few times, but now when I smoke again, it just makes me feel worse. I think a big part is getting past a month. Then if you-re going to go back, smoke 1 swisher sweet.

It-ll make you feel horrible.
it just your body getting used to not smoking, you dream usually of things that happen in your life and your body knows you-ve quit smoking therefore you will dream of it. dont let the dreams get the better of you, maybe before you go to sleep your thinking of smoking, instead try and think of different things other than that, this might help you stop dreaming of it. Well done for quiting and keep the good work up.

Is it just me or does quitting smoking seem like drastically changing your personality. I-m not sure why it-s like I-m not as rebellious anymore like I-m caving in to the status quo. I know smoking is bad for me and only makes another big corporation rich. But somehow it-s like I-m leaving a cool club or something ridiculous like that. Also what do I do when I-m driving or playing video games those are the two times when I really enjoy smoking (and the bad part is I-m a truck driver so I drive allot and sometimes use cigarettes to stay awake for something to do) Dont get me wrong I-ve quit before for 6 months starting out with the patch so I know how to quit I just feel like I-m saying goodbye to a part of myself.
you-re right.
it is a lifestyle, especially at bars, and, yeah, driving.

it was hard to know that I wouldn-t be able to wander off for my little breaks at work.
and what would i do after i ate?

but now, my clothes don-t smell like ***, there aren-t ashes all over my car, I eat a piece of candy after I eat, and i realize that the -cool- people are reall all just a bunch of turds. and there-s nothing that says I can-t still wander outside at bars or at work (to talk to the turds :))
to a certain extent. no more a part of the outcasts as I refer to it. healthier obviously but something about it, like you, playing games or when taking a dump or something. hard but in the end it-s for the better.
Yeah- I know what you mean. It was really hard for me to quit. I liked to smoke while driving and also when I drink beer (which is often during football season). Good luck to you- if you really want to quit I hope you are successful without being too hard on yourself (about saying goodbye to a part of yourself).
Holy crap -- I-ve been smokeless for three whole days and I hate myself. Can-t stand me. I-m screaming at everyone (including my boss), and can-t sit still. And I want to jump out of my skin. I-m afraid of me. And currently hate my husband, even though I love him like crazy.

In fact yesterday, I painted 20 8-x10- pieces of paper different colors (to use as backgrounds for art projects I will never finish), simply because I needed to occupy my hands.

Smoking was my ME time. My relaxing time. I miss it when I drive, when I want to think, when I have a glass of wine or beer. I have SO lost a part of me. I figure, what other bad habit can I start up in order to fix my LOSS. So, tomorrow I-m going to try walking -- fast. I-ll let you know if I find myself. My guess is not.

And tell me, why don-t those who love me CARE??????!!!!!!!!!!! I-m going crazy for a cigarette and they think I-m insane for acting like a lunatic. Hmmm. . . . that-s kind of funny. I-m trying really hard. The least they can do is understand that this is the hardest thing in the world right now and be nice to me and understanding.

I-m usually a very sane and wonderful person. How come this is driving me crazy??????

Okay, I-m done writing now. I guess it-s better than smoking. And tomorrow, I promise I-ll try to behave better!!!!!!!!
Ciggerettes are an addiction, and in my oppinion is almsot as bad as heroin. I quit once, was hard as hell to do, but i started up again, and shortly after i was just as bad off.

Anyways the chemical addiction makes your body and mind feel diffrently about it, same as herion addicts. Stick with quitting, your cooler not smoking then smoking. Would you rather be able to run and play sports in 5 years, or be sitting there losing your hair cause your short of breath?
I-m planning on quitting tomorrow. I have -quit- many times in 34 years of smoking. I become a bear when I stop. I warn people as to what I-m going to be like.

After that, they-re on their own.

How can I quit smoking and lose weight at the same time? -

Get some hypnosis to try to stop the eating binge.

Get some acupuncture to help get over the cigs craving.

Keep no-calorie vegetables nearby: celery, carrots. Don-t go junk food like pretzels or popcorn.

http://theaones.qsrnp.hop.clickbank.net

Get thee to a nunnery - or a monastery.
simple put down the cigs . everytime you want one go running eat stuff like carrots. stuff to keep youre hands busy . stay away from other smokers
We went to a hypnotist. Unfortunately it did not work for me. But the advice they give which did help me cut down was to change your routine. If you get up and have a cigarette in the morning and coffee change that. Instead have a piece of fruit which contains natural sugars. Do this throughout the day. I have cut down doing this and kept wieght off.
You could attend one of the detoxification courses.
Or administer your own.
Fast for 5 days on water only, or water and fruit juice, and you will get rid of the toxins, and the build up of gunge which accumulates in everybody-s intestines.
This generally weighs about 10 - 15 pounds, and will do the trick for you without any further weight loss.
Start by quitting a bad habit and substite or rplace with a new and healty one. Stop smoking, start an exercise routine and new eating habits.

How can i help my friend to quit smoking? -

he wants to. but his will is too weak to break the habit. what do you fellas suggest i would do to help him
Tell him to go to vapersforum.com and read.... A Lot! Then go to youtube and look at video reviews. Then jump on the bandwagon and get one.
Then he can do what he wants to quit in HIS own time and time frame.
It-s NOT just a nicotine addiction.... Go.... read....learn..... vape
I have been using green smoke for a while now and i can tell u its 100% a healthier alternative than smoking! no carcinogens carbon monoxide or tar, just nicotine and u can use it to ween yourself off if u like....... but the best part is it looks and feels like u are really smoking but its just water vapour!! check out the website and read up on the benefits I-m sure u will be as impressed as i was!!! u can also use this code disc10-7097 to get 10% off the price should u decide to join us green smokers lol hope this helps

http://greensmoke.com/7097.html

Tell your friend to use reverse psychology. I used this myself when I was thirty-six years old (I was consuming a minimum of two packs a day then.)
Suggest Chantix, it-s pretty close to a miracle drug.

He-s not weak, BTW, nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs known.

How do I get my teenage son to quit smoking? -

How do I get my teenage son to quit smoking? -

Wow, I-m sorry to hear that he-s smoking. I started smoking when I was 12 when they still sold to minors thinking we were getting them for our parents. I also started drinking beer shortly thereafter. I didn-t try pot until after my freshman year in High School. I never really did any of these things to excess, but many of the people I knew did.

What finally got me to quit was my roommate during my freshman year in college (18 years old). I had elected to have a smoking roomie because I wanted to be able to smoke in the room. But she smoked a lot more than me and they were menthol and the whole room reeked and it made me sick. So for me, it was over-exposure to smoke. On the other hand, I kept drinking and getting high sometimes. It took a while before I realized that these were also a waste of time and money.

Now I have a son who-s 14. His dad died of alcohol and drug abuse before he turned 40. My son has seen first hand the negative effects of drugs and alcohol, and he does group cigarettes in the same classification as alcohol and drugs. I started talking to him about it at a very young age, and continue to do so. He now has friends who smoke, drink and get high. He tries to get them to quit.

But sometimes my son says that he believes it-s his destiny to follow in his father-s footsteps because he-s so much like him in other ways. My response is that the traits he shares with his father are inherited - like his body-s build, and his hairy legs and even his voice and facial expressions -- but I tell him that his behavior is his choice and the only thing that he really has control over, so he does NOT have to follow his father-s path.

I suggest that you start by considering your son-s motivation to smoke. Does he do it to fit in or look cool? or is he rebelling against you and trying to piss you off? If it-s the first reason - that he-s looking for a group where he feels like he belongs, try to encourage his interests that might keep him too busy to have time to smoke. My son LOVES basketball, so he has his friends there and they don-t smoke because it could hurt their game (although some of them drink and/or get high occasionally), so for the most part, he-s accepted in that group. It may take an investment of time and money on your part - but he-s your son! I recall when my son tried-out for an AAU traveling team a year ago. One of his oldest friends tried-out too, and he played quite well. This was one of the kids that my son was trying to get to quit smoking and partying (he would hang out and drive around with 18 year-olds and he was only 14). His mom wouldn-t let him join the team, because it would cost around $400.00 over the course of the season. My son was really upset that this woman would choose to allow her son to smoke and get in cars with 18 year-olds, as opposed to spending a few hundred dollars to help him get involved in a healthy activity! She wouldn-t have had to drive that often, because we were right in the same neighborhood - I-d have provided transportation. But anyway, I digress... (sorry)

If your son-s motivation comes from rebelling against you, it will probably be harder for you to address. Pretty much anything you say will be tuned out, and he may want to defy you even more. His rebellion stems from a dynamic that-s been developing over several years, so it won-t go away overnight.

Start by being honest: I love you and it hurts me to see you smoking and doing harm to yourself. Then try to explore the motivation and possible acceptable alternatives from there. Don-t talk down to him, and don-t make demands. This is one situation where it will help to start treating him like he-s his own person. You and I know he-s got a long way to go, but remember how sure you were of things at that age and what fools you thought your parents were? So address him in a more mature manner, and he-ll be more likely to respond that way, rather than flying off on the defensive. I find that when we-re riding in the car is a good time for my son and I to talk. Not only is he a captive audience, there-s just something peaceful about riding down the road. If you suspect your son has some deeper self-esteem issues, then you may want to find him some counseling or group sessions to help the root cause of his somewhat self-destructive behavior. Be patient, let the love flow, and Good Luck!
YOU FIND THE ANSWER AND TELL ME CAUSE I AM HAVING THE SAME TROUBLE...

Cold turkey is impossible.. gum tastes horrible - patches don-t do much.....
My husband and I smoked since we were in our teens (16 years old). More on than off I-m afraid. At age 45 we finally kicked the habit in the most unusual way. We bought a new home, the new carpet, paint, and fresh wood smelled so good and clean. We both made a house rule before we moved in, to not smoke in the house. It worked quit well smoking out side during the summer and fall, then came winter and the snow with it. We found our selves outside less and less. Before winter was over we had lost our craving for cigarettes! We-re both 64 now, we haven-t touched a cigarette since then! We learned from past experience that once you quit and start again a short time later, it is harder to quit the next time around. so we simply didn-t try even one little drag as we had in the past when we would quit for only a couple of weeks. You really have to get it out of your system good to lose the craving. Then never ever go back.
I know two people who had Acupuncture. It worked for one but not the other.
Jumping off a very tall building has a 100% success rate.
Zyban. Ive tried evrything else, zyban is by far the easiest and most effective.
the craving for a cig. only lasts 3 mins.
occupy yourself for that time and you should
find that it goes away.
do this each time you feel the need for a cig.

good luck.
try to decrease the number each day!!!! thats the best way and it helped many of my relatives to quit.
CHANTIX works GREAT!!!

Good luck its not easy but u have to wanta quit too
cold turkey and will power! it doesn-t matter what method you use to stop you will need willpower to stay stopped. i went cold turkey two years ago and even now its only my will power that stops me from starting smoking again. i still get cravings now! when i do i remember back to when i had just stopped and how bad it was feeling like that all the time and think to myself how horrible it would be to have to do that again!
Don`t start in the first place.
my hubby had my support also from his son and he had plenty of will power but before then he saw my mother lying on her death bed it scared him has she was dying ,my mother was only 59 and died of cancer in the throat and lungs, and she only smoked 10 fags per day
If you find out let me know.
Take a 2week vacation to a place that you can-t smoke and you won-t be around smokers. By the time you get back you won-t even miss them. That-s what I did and I have never looked back and it-s been over 20yrs.

im asking becuase i wana quit smoking. but i dnt wana try any nicotine gums or patches or nuthin. and i was told that the american spirit cigarettes have less addictives, and sinceit has les addictives, can it help me quit?
smoking any cigarette is not gonna help you quit..
No. American Spirits are additive*-free, not less addictive. I think you got them confused. And smoking is smoking, just like nicotine is nicotine. Whatever you smoke, you are still smoking; smoking a different brand of cigarettes is not going to help you quit. Don-t be fooled, there is no such thing as a healthier or safer cigarette.

i-ve been smoking black and milds for about 1 year and i wanna quit
You-re too beautiful to be smoking black and Milds. Even though they do smell really good.

I remember back in college, my girlfriend was such as horrible smoker. I mean she smoked like a chimney. I was the complete opposite I had quit 2 years prior. I tried to get her to quit cold turkey like I did, but she couldn-t do it. I guess not everyone can pull it off. I just really had to quit, cause of my line of work.

We tried the patch and that didn-t work and then we tried the gum. She really liked that and kinda got addicted to the gum, lol. Then we found this great program that really did help us. I mean she was off of it, I thought she was gonna relapse but she hasn-t smoked in 3years so, I guess it works.

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Use nicotine gum for a couple weeks, then a mild patch. That is what I did almost 4 years ago and haven-t smoked since and have no desire to ever again. I had been a smoker for 17 years.

i am trying to quit smoking cigs. and i am wondering what other people think the best way is
i agree with cold turkey.

wait until you want to quit.
you really really want to quit.

and then stop.
stop thinking of yourself as a smoker.
stop debating if you should or not.
nothing makes you smoke...
its not like quitting a twitch

there is not easy way to do it.
so save your money and show some
mental strength
Anyone that tells you to quit -cold turkey- has obviously never gone through it themselves. The best way is to gradually reduce the amount you smoke. If you smoke a pack a day, try smoking one less cigarette a week. So in week 1 smoke a pack a day, week 2 smoke 19 cigs a day, week 3 smoke 18 a day and so one till you are down to one a day. Once you are down to one a day, every week pick a day where you don-t smoke, and the next week pick two days, and so on till you don;t smkoe at all.

Even if you don-t completely stop smoking just reducing the amount you smoke will be beneficial and will make it easier to quit if you ever try again.

O yeah and if you can afford it, in the first few weeks when you are smoking 15-19 a day, throw the extras in the pack away as soon as you buy the pack so you don-t lose count and you aren-t as tempted to smoke more.
I quit cold turkey. The patches and gum are still putting nicotine into your system, so once you get off the cigarettes you still have the nicotine addiction. Also, these things only work if you-re ready to quit. They will not do the job for you unless you put in effort on your part. This is true for ANY -quit smoking aid-.

Once you-ve decided to be a non-smoker, it helps to avoid situations that could trip you up. If you-re used to having coffee and cigarettes in the morning, change your routine a bit so the association isn-t so strong. If you indulge in spirits, try to do without it for awhile; your willpower will go out the window after the first couple of beers. Be aware of when your cravings are the strongest and make a conscious effort to alter your activities accordingly.

Try not to use food as a substitute for cigarettes. This one is difficult because your taste buds will suddenly work great and everything will taste so much better. I used toothpicks. If you have to go for the food, try to stay with carrots and celery. Otherwise, the money you save on cigarettes will be going to a new larger-sized wardrobe!

Best of luck to you!
You should try Aroma Therapy, really, it works.

My mom-s going to school for it, and in her class there were a few people who smoked cigarettes. The teacher told them to smell an essential oil (I don-t remember the name of it) and after that, a lot of them lost the desire to smoke, and others felt sick when they did smoke. Eventually they all quit because they just didn-t have that desire to smoke anymore.

throw away all your ciggarettes. buy a pack of nicotine gum and hide it somewhere hard to reach. be extremely determined to stop smoking. do not smoke and try to use the gum as little as possible, if it-s hard to get to, that-s further discouragement. whatever you do, do NOT buy more than one pack of gum! i don-t mean one pack at a time, i mean one pack and that-s it.

you can quit on one pack of nicorette gum and that-s a proven fact. wean yourself off the habit bit by bit.

good luck quitting. it-s not as hard as they say it is, you just need to remember that you never were addicted to smoking in the first place.
I think it depends on the person, what works for some may not work for others. And I think that they-ve also studied and shown that it takes people several attempts before quitting for good.

Anyway, my brother tried patches and stuff, but quit last November cold turkey.

Kudos to you for quitting and good luck!
I was told to cut down gradually by a TCM doctor. I did fine for about 3 days, like down from 15 to 5 a day but then the tickly cough started. it got worse over the next 4 days and in the end a cigarette seemed to calm it down so now i smoke 15 a day again.

Is it bad to quit smoking cold turkey? -

I-ve heard if you quit cold turkey its very bad for your health for example you could get seizures.
It-s not bad to quite smoking cold turkey- though it might be a bit hard on you and your family because you may get mood swings from not getting your dose of nicotine. That-s how my father quit- Not that he had much choice at the time: He was in the hospital for appendicitis.
You shouldnt have started in the first place, nows a great time to worry about it, but to answer you yes you can get seizures and worse things, although for smoking you probably wont get anything worse than withdrawl sydrome. Siezures and other serious effects are more common with going cold turkey from drugs or alchoholism.
no, just your body going through withdrawals, you will get over it and feel a lot better and have a lot more money in your pocket
No it-s probably the most effective way to quit. And no, you won-t get seizures.
No it-s definetly not bad for you to quit smoking cold turkey, in fact its probably the best way to go about it. My father went from smoking 60 a day for 40 years to none just like that and ever smoked again. All of my friends that try to ween themselves off and cut down have invariably started full time again pretty quickly. Go for it! And good luck, it-ll be hard but you-ll be fine!
I doubt that you will get seizures, but if you are really addicted to smoking cold turkey is not the way to go. You should get on a program, use alternatives. Some programs will wean you off of smoking a little at a time, but getting on a program is the best way to stop.
Any way you quit smoking is a good way. Actually, cold turkey is probably the best way in the long run because you will have effectively deterred the psychological cravings all on your own so you are less likely to start up again.

While all that nicotine gum and nicotine patch stuff works, they could actually increase your smoking if you don-t do it right which will be even worse for you in the long run than seizures.
I know of 17 people that quit cold turkey. 9 are dead,3 have 1 lung left, and 1-s still taking chemo. I quit drinking, cold turkey, but I still have a high sugar intake.
NO!! I quit cold turkey!! It-s the only way to go if ya ask me.......I did bum a couple from coworkers during the first 2 weeks though but that-s nothing.....It was literally like 2 per weekend.
its gotta be better than still smoking!

How do i help my boyfriend quit smoking? -

my boyfriend wants to quit smoking, he doesnt smoke much (1-3 times daily) and has been smoking off and on for about three years. He says that he smokes after a long day or when hes bored and starts thinking about it. He knows that I don-t like it when he smokes and his pack of cigarettes is in my posession so he has to ask me when he wants one, and i feel bad saying no... do you have any ideas to help?
find an area you need to improve on and work on that, and it will help you stop fucusing on him
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
See if you can get him to read this book: -Alan Carr-s Easy Way To Stop Smoking-. Most of the book concerns dispelling the seductive myths surrounding smoking which are the main cause of why smokers keep smoking. Such myths as it eases boredom, or relieves stress, or helps concentration. It has helped millions of smokers quit their habit with minimal withdrawal and no willpower needed. Simply a change in how they perceive their addiction. And its done in a rational, factual way.

Good luck.
Because he is worth it
Sometimes it helps to use the programs on the internet, such as why quit.com or american cancer society. He will be able to talk to other addicts going through it and have lessons on the awful addiction it is and how to break it. Three can be more difficult than a pack so they say. Basically he needs to be responible for his addiction you need not to co enable him by taking control of his problem. Its his addiction he choose it he must end it. When he goes to one of the programs and succeeds on his own, then rewards are great, I got a backrub after two weeks from my friend.

I am quitting smoking very soon, and I-m looking for any good tips or tricks that can help you quit or anything that helps you deal with cravings. Anything really! :)
Thanks for any responses!
If you have been a long term smoker who has smoked a pack or more a day, I really recommend the Patch (use the clear one... less irritating).

Keep a bottle of water with you at all times and when a craving hits, start sipping on it. You can also chew on sugarless gum for a few moments... if at home, brush your teeth during a craving, start some housework, doodle on a pad of paper. You only have to get through 2 minutes... that is the longest a craving will be. Cravings lessen over time and get better with each day.

Keep your hands busy... start up something new... yoga, drawing, painting... anything. A Rubics Cube puzzles, crosswords will also keep you busy... physically and mentally.

You need to stay away from triggers for a month at least... if not 2 or 3 would be better. Alcohol, caffeine, bars, etc. As well you need to start new morning, after meal, stress, etc routine. Wash your face first thing in the morning, brush your teeth after a meal, go for a walk if something upsets you.

Everyone I have recommended it to has really liked it and found it helped them. (Its free). All the people on that site are quitting or have been quit for a long time. They are a supportive bunch and can get you through rough patches, give great tips and help you stay in the game. So do take the time to check it out.
As I am sure you know, there is a plethora of methods out there to help people stop smoking. The best way to achieve this is not to use nicotine suppliments. It may help with cravings depending on how many pack per day you smoke, but it is still putting the drug into your body.

Discuss with your doctor the possiblility of starting Chantix. It is the newest drug on the market for smoking cessation and studies have shown that it has a much higher success rate than other products.

Two other things to consider are support groups (check out the Get Quit program from the makers of Chantix) and changing your behavior. My this, I mean if it is a situation that you would normally have a cigarette, try not to put yourself in that position. (Smoke after a meal, take a walk, chew gum, start a hobby-anything but the cigarette) Sometimes it means that you change your friends that you would normally associate with.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, hypnosis or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

It is key to stay positive, don-t focus on the cravings. Keep the reasons why you quit in the first place circling through your head. This will keep your spirit and motivation high. Cravings will ease as a result.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

I quit once after 7 years, stayed off until some really rough times 5 years later but quit again after half a year. Both times nicorette was my lifesaver although you can end up addicted to the gum, but that-s better then smoking if you research the known health hazards of nicotine gum it-s minimal. Can ween off using regular gum. Definitely a hard habit to quit, you have to really dedicate yourself to it for the long run. Good luck.

p.s. I used the walmart brand, cheapest and I didn-t mind the taste at all.
Stay busy. Begin or increase exercise routines. Put money equal to what you spent on smokes into a savings account or just stashed in a drawer for awhile as a reminder of the money you are saving and as a positive reinforcement of your decisions and convictions. As silly as it may seem, do good and or nice things for others. When I was given this advice I doubted how it would have an impact on me but I tryed it and it did help. It made me feel like a good person and built my self esteem which contributed to my will power to want to be a healthy person and a worthwhile person who takes care of themselves. Good luck to you.
Last carton of Winston cost me $ 1.60 per carton. That-s right: one dollar and sixty cents. So it-s been a long time ago. When I quit, I was smoking 3 packs/day. Of course, when I started smoking, I never thought that I would end up smoking that much.

Here is how I quit: A friend told me to run a mile, and then breathe through a straw for about 5 minutes. Of course, when I tried that, it was impossible! When I told him about how hard it was to get my breath through that straw, he laughed at me and said -keep on smoking!. . . . that-s how hard it-s going to be in the next 25 years if you continue to smoke!

My father-in-law smoked for 55 years. He smoked unfiltered Camels. He quit 10 years before dying. Those last10 years were absolutely awful for him. He would STRUGGLE for breath just sitting in a recliner, watching his TV. Sometimes he would cough so hard that he would spit up pieces of his lungs. That is what smoking did to him!

I can-t believe that this coming January 10th I will have been quit for 37 years. Thank the Lord!

Good luck to you!
A friend of my started little by little. When you smoke, take a few puffs and put out the cigarette and save it for later. When the urge is there, use the same cigarette, take a few puffs and put it out and save it. He was smoking two packs a week. It went down to one a week, then half a pack until he didn-t need it anymore.
First of all thats good u want to quite smoking i use 2 smoke and gave up about 8 months ago. well all u do is go onto www.google.com then write in lung cancer and watch the movies in you tube about people dying of lung cancer. like i know its not easy to quite but if u keep smoking you could get cancer so i would just think would u wanna be lying in a hospital bed dying of cancer!! i would say quite while u can ay.
save all the money you-d otherwise spend on cigarettes and put it towards a vacation... whenever you feel like a cigarette, just think about how great that vacation will be. depending on how much you spent daily, you could be looking at a nice getaway!
the doc has a new medicine that will help block the nicotine receptors in your head. It worked great for me. I was smoking 2 packs a day. It took me a few months but it has worked.
try using the patches because they really work. If you say that the patches are to expensive, think about how much you spend on cigarettes.
try to:
-discontinue looking at cigarettes
-chew gum
-if you ever need one just do something else like running
1. think about the effects of smoking and stop

Stop smoking, and start walking
nicotine gum or try one of those stop smoking things
go to Smoke Enders

Or know someone that has? I want to know how likely it is that it-ll work, and what can help.

I-m 21 and have been smoking a pack a day for a year. My lungs hurt really bad right now and I-m sick of this. I get short of breath very easily and I feel old.
I did, but I wasn-t a heavy smoker, and I only smoked at work. When I changed work assignments...same employer but different desk, different team, I decided to quit. It was easier because I was in a different place.
I smoke socially. I smoke less than twice a year. When I crave a cigarette (which is usually around mid-terms or finals) I can have one for that week and when the stress is gone so is the craving. If you have serious addiction why don-t you try one of those nicotine patches. I am told that if you use them ONLY when you have a craving that it will work.
Yep! When I found out I was pregnant, I stopped straight away and haven-t had one since. 10 years now! (Some days though, I-d kill for one!)
Yes, I have quit smoking cold turkey. It-s the hardest way to quit, but the most effiecent. however i have quit smoking twice and started back up twice. It all depends on your willpower though. Try not to get discouraged and don-t give in to the cravings.
I did quit cold turkey, but I wasn-t smoking as much as you and I had a reason to quit, I was pregnant. Most people that quit any major habit have to make it past the 3 week period. If you-ve quit and not smoked for 3 weeks, then you are usually good to go, but it will still be tempting in bars and around others that smoke. I still have cravings every now and then and it has been about 10 years.
You sound just like me. I was 21 when I stopped, I quit cold turkey - I-m 32 now; and cigg free since the day I quit 11 yrs ago.

:) You can do it! :)

Oh, not everyone gains weight - :) :) You can find a good sugar free candy to suck on that will help - or a mint. :) Something to make your mouth feel -clean- so you wont want to make it all yucky. :)
I did twenty five years ago. That was after two previous failed attempts! I found the trick was to schedule quitting day far enough in the future to allow you time to psych up for it, and it helps if you pick a date when a positive event is occurring, such as a wedding, or vacation trip. In my case it was a move to a new house, from finding to final closing consumed about three months. Plenty of time to psych up. Been smoke free ever since. Good luck in your attempt, be aware you-ll have to keep fighting temptation for months and it-ll be a couple of years before it becomes easy to be around other smokers. The good news is, you-ll eventually start disliking the smell of cigarette smoke.
yeah just be prepared to gain a little weight! find something to keep yourself busy besides eating when you get those withdrawls
I did it when I was your age. I realized that being sick all the time (I had chronic sinus infections) wasn-t worth it anymore. Just think of what you could do with the money you save.
I got sick one day and stopped, thinking that smoking had to do with my sickness. That was 36 years ago.
I have tried but, just don-t buy anymore, don-t be around smoke or you-ll probaly start again. I-ve tried it many times.
This is the only way to do it. And stay away from friends who smoke.
Yes, but I was down to about 4 cigarettes a day when I did it.

Maybe you could try reducing the number you smoke a day by one each week?

I also found www.quitnet.com to be a fantastic resource.
Yes, that-s the only way that I can quit. I had smoked 4 over 10 yrs. off - on .

With my busy schedule, I cant exercise that often. How can I quit smoking without gaining weight? -

You most likely will not gain MUCH weight. If anything, the most you-re *likely* (depending on your body) to gain is 5-10lbs. Keep eating healthy, and when you feel like you need a cig, try eating sunflower seeds. They contain a chemical that is similar to nicotine. Try this, and you really shouldn-t gain any weight. Best of luck!
if you have time to smoke a cigarrette (5 minutes) then you have time to climb the stairs or someother type of exercise for those 5 minutes. the reason many people smoke is because of the need to keep their hands busy, as well as the oral gratification that comes with it. try sugar free suckers or candy, or 0 calorie drinks.-blurey
Chew gum - stock up on low-calorie foods. If your will power is strong enough you can do alright. You can also buy small flavored cigars if you don-t want to break the habit but you can get away from the nicotine.
Eat celery. Eating/chewing celery uses up more calories that what is contained in the celery! Cool huh?
Don-t use food as a replacement for smoking.
Chew gum. Most gum is only 5 calories. Or get a pet; they can keep you busy for awhile.
buy the patch and avoid alcohol. both help tremendously.
If your that busy, where do you find to smoke.

Quit Smoking? -

My husband decided to quit after years (over 20) of smoking on and off. The last time he quit he didn-t use any medication (patch, pills, etc). This time he-s going to try Chantix. Our Doctor and the Pharmacist insist that this is the most effective way to quit. My only concerns are the side effects. Here is what’s listed on the medications website….”Some patients have reported changes in behavior, agitation, depressed mood, suicidal thoughts or actions when attempting to quit smoking”. Has anyone used this drug and was it successful?
My hubby has tried to quit with Chantix 3 times. I do think it is a great drug. He did quit for 3 weeks the first time, but didn-t know what to do with himself when his stress level was extremely high so grabbed his old friend a cigarette.
I do think he was agitated a lot while on the med., but I believe that was more from trying to quit than the actual drug itself. I have known many people this has worked for. I would encourage your hubby to do it if I were you. The side effects can-t be worse than what smoking is already doing to him. GOOD LUCK!!!
It caused me great sores in my mouth to where I couldn-t eat or drink anything for almost a week. It also caused me to go high potassium.

I was taking an ARB for potential hypertension and the combo nearly killed me. This is not a listed side effect!!!

I cannot take any of the antidepressants as they make me mean as a Mojave Rattlesnake in Molting season!!!

I am trying this by decreasing number and availability of smoking places every day!! Soon I should be out of supply and places I can smoke!! Then it will be -Cold-!!!

Good luck to your husband!!
I quit after smoking for 33 years by chewing Nicorette gum when I thought I would come out of my skin...after about 10 days I didn-t need it anymore...then the -habit- part of cigarettes must be broken and that is the hard part...why get an addiction to a drug in place of the cigarette addiction?
Yes a close family member of mine has and he quit within a few days, amazing. Good luck to him, I quit cold turkey after smoking for 7 years. But wether you need medicine or not quiting is the best thing you can do for yourself!
It-s a great drug....as in most cases you have to wonder if these ppl w/ the depression/agitation/suicidal thoughts were going to be that way if they took the drug or not......it-s a good drug...I-ve seen many positive outcomes. Good luck
I used it last year. It worked great I didn-t have any side effects! I think its just for a select few. I didn-t finish my 3months though and went back to smoking. I didn-t quit until i got pregnant

Should i be concerned that I am not clearing the mucus from my lungs because most people who quit say they cough up a lot of stuff... or should I be happy I don-t have a cough and just forget about it?
Lucky You; and CONGRATULATIONS
no feel lucky =]
if you smoked menthols then the gunk doesnt come out. if you smoked normals then you might still develop a cough. if you dont then theres not much you can do about it!
Congratulations on quiting smoking. I don-t think mucus from your lungs will be a problem, I have asbestos in mine but there is nothing I can do until it develops into something bad. Here is an idea you may want to pursue. NASA completed a Clean Air Plant Study a few years ago and found :

-Common indoor plants may provide a valuable weapon in the fight against rising levels of indoor air pollution. Those plants in your office or home are not only decorative, but NASA scientists are finding them to be surprisingly useful in absorbing potentially harmful gases and cleaning the air inside modern buildings.-

-NASA research has consistently shown that living, green and flowering plants can remove several toxic chemicals from the air in building interiors. You can use plants in your home or office to improve the quality of the air to make it a more pleasant place to live and work - where people feel better, perform better, any enjoy life more.-
Be happy you don-t have it. If any new symptoms develop be concerned. Congratulations on quitting!
