Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

i am trying to quit smoking cigs. and i am wondering what other people think the best way is
i agree with cold turkey.

wait until you want to quit.
you really really want to quit.

and then stop.
stop thinking of yourself as a smoker.
stop debating if you should or not.
nothing makes you smoke...
its not like quitting a twitch

there is not easy way to do it.
so save your money and show some
mental strength
Anyone that tells you to quit -cold turkey- has obviously never gone through it themselves. The best way is to gradually reduce the amount you smoke. If you smoke a pack a day, try smoking one less cigarette a week. So in week 1 smoke a pack a day, week 2 smoke 19 cigs a day, week 3 smoke 18 a day and so one till you are down to one a day. Once you are down to one a day, every week pick a day where you don-t smoke, and the next week pick two days, and so on till you don;t smkoe at all.

Even if you don-t completely stop smoking just reducing the amount you smoke will be beneficial and will make it easier to quit if you ever try again.

O yeah and if you can afford it, in the first few weeks when you are smoking 15-19 a day, throw the extras in the pack away as soon as you buy the pack so you don-t lose count and you aren-t as tempted to smoke more.
I quit cold turkey. The patches and gum are still putting nicotine into your system, so once you get off the cigarettes you still have the nicotine addiction. Also, these things only work if you-re ready to quit. They will not do the job for you unless you put in effort on your part. This is true for ANY -quit smoking aid-.

Once you-ve decided to be a non-smoker, it helps to avoid situations that could trip you up. If you-re used to having coffee and cigarettes in the morning, change your routine a bit so the association isn-t so strong. If you indulge in spirits, try to do without it for awhile; your willpower will go out the window after the first couple of beers. Be aware of when your cravings are the strongest and make a conscious effort to alter your activities accordingly.

Try not to use food as a substitute for cigarettes. This one is difficult because your taste buds will suddenly work great and everything will taste so much better. I used toothpicks. If you have to go for the food, try to stay with carrots and celery. Otherwise, the money you save on cigarettes will be going to a new larger-sized wardrobe!

Best of luck to you!
You should try Aroma Therapy, really, it works.

My mom-s going to school for it, and in her class there were a few people who smoked cigarettes. The teacher told them to smell an essential oil (I don-t remember the name of it) and after that, a lot of them lost the desire to smoke, and others felt sick when they did smoke. Eventually they all quit because they just didn-t have that desire to smoke anymore.

throw away all your ciggarettes. buy a pack of nicotine gum and hide it somewhere hard to reach. be extremely determined to stop smoking. do not smoke and try to use the gum as little as possible, if it-s hard to get to, that-s further discouragement. whatever you do, do NOT buy more than one pack of gum! i don-t mean one pack at a time, i mean one pack and that-s it.

you can quit on one pack of nicorette gum and that-s a proven fact. wean yourself off the habit bit by bit.

good luck quitting. it-s not as hard as they say it is, you just need to remember that you never were addicted to smoking in the first place.
I think it depends on the person, what works for some may not work for others. And I think that they-ve also studied and shown that it takes people several attempts before quitting for good.

Anyway, my brother tried patches and stuff, but quit last November cold turkey.

Kudos to you for quitting and good luck!
I was told to cut down gradually by a TCM doctor. I did fine for about 3 days, like down from 15 to 5 a day but then the tickly cough started. it got worse over the next 4 days and in the end a cigarette seemed to calm it down so now i smoke 15 a day again.

no method works if you do not really want it.
Any method works if you do really want it.
I heard many good comments on Allen Carr-s book.
