I quit smoking cigarettes for a month? -

When I quit cold turkey my lungs started to hurt then it stopped. But now my lungs will start hurting for 5 minutes randomly maybe every 5-7 days.

Is this normal?
I experienced the same random pains when i quit. I never found out exactly what it was but after the first 2-3 months it went away and never came back. Good luck kicking the habit.
I think so? My lungs were a mess for a couple months after I quit smoking. They are healing themselves still and trying to get rid of all the nasty junk thats still in them. So I think having some problems is pretty normal?

If it is hard to breathe, really painful when this happens or you cough up blood or other strange stuff, or this doesn-t go away in the next few weeks then you should probably see the doctor. Otherwise I-d say its probably nothing to worry about.
your answer is in the site i mentioned in the sources
I don-t know, I never smoked

After you quit smoking does smokers cough go away? -

Yes.
Cigarette smoke contains chemicals that irritate the air passages and lungs. When a smoker inhales these substances, the body tries to protect itself by coughing. The well-known -early morning- cough of smokers happens for a different reason. Normally, cilia (tiny hairlike formations lining the airways) beat outward and sweep harmful material out of the lungs. Cigarette smoke, however, decreases the sweeping action, so some of the poisons in the smoke remain in the lungs. When a smoker sleeps, some cilia recover and begin working again. After waking up, the smoker coughs because the lungs are trying to clear away the poisons that built up the previous day. Unfortunately, prolonged exposure to smoke completely destroys the cilia-s ability to function. Then the smoker-s lungs are even more exposed and susceptible than before, especially to bacteria and viruses in the air.

Within a few days you will probably begin to notice some remarkable changes in your body. Your sense of smell and taste may improve. You will breathe easier, and your smoker-s hack will begin to disappear, although you may notice that you will continue to cough for a while. And you will be free from the mess, smell, inconvenience, expense, and dependence of cigarette smoking.

When we smoke and for all the years that we smoked each and every puff on a cigarette destroyed the cilia, or tiny little hair-like projections lining our respiratory tract. These cilia are responsible for filtering out all the impurities we breathe on a daily basis. They line our nose and reach all the way down into our lungs. When we quit smoking, the first thing, essentially to start repairing itself, is the respiratory tract......and as soon as we take the last puff, the cilia start to regenerate themselves. In some people these cilia grow back faster than others.

Coughing is a natural byproduct of the reemerging cilia. It makes no difference how long or how much you smoked, the rate of regrowth can and is different in most of us. The faster the cilia grow, the more likely we are to cough lots in the first weeks of a quit. Our bodies are healing and our lungs are clearing themselves of all the toxins and impurities.

But whether your cilia grow back rapidly and we cough lots or slowly and we cough little....any cough lasting more that a few weeks and is persistant and is accompanied by pain and or fever, should be checked by a qualified physcian. The body heals remarkedly fast but smoking often covers a variety of other illnesses and conditions and a lingering cough should not always be associated with quitting smoking. It-s a great idea for any of us quitting to have our lungs checked out afterwards. It really does help with peace of mind.
not unless you already have lung cancer or emphysema, the cough will gradually disappear
yes
I guess it depends on how long you smoked for! If you dont die from Lung Cancer shortly after you quit then it should eventually go away. I smoked for twelve years and I dont cough anymore. I think It stopped that same year for me. But...I do still have breathing problems and Bronchitis at least once a year.
It takes a while but yes. If you have had a persistent cough then it could be something like sinus drainage that goes into the lungs. However, there are smokers vitamins out there to help with your symptoms and to help get rid of toxins faster.

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

i am new at this i have only tried cold turkey so i need some pointers cuz that way don-t work and it-s even harder that i am around people all day that smoke!!! need help please
For me I used 1-800-Quit assist is the phone number and web site. I used Nicoderm for the two weeks drop down two weeks drop down and then off Oct 12th 1 year smoke free. Good Luck you can do it.
ok, so i got on phillip morris website and got information abt quitting. I also set a date. Made sure there were no cigarettes anywhere in my house and I just went to it. I knew it would be very hard. It still took my by surprise. I did my normal routine dealt with the stress and chewed a lot of gum. It was really easy some days and some it was so hard. but I DID IT. good luck.
I quit cold turkey 27 years ago, and haven-t had a cigarette since. The first thing to do is get rid of all reminders of smoking. Throw out the ash trays, the lighters and the cigarettes. If you can avoid it, don-t hang around with anyone who smokes for the first few weeks. Chew gum, and have plenty on hand so you won-t eat everything in sight. Find something constructive to do with your hands. Typing works. Good luck.
Nicocure Quit smoking pill http://www.gordoniihoodia.net/nicocure-quit-smoking-pills.html go to the link and get know how to rid of smoking permenentely
I quit, started chewing Nicorette, and also started taking Wellbutrin at the same time I quit. The Wellbutrin kills the craving after 4 or 5 days, and then you can quit the Nicorette, which is almost as bad as the smoking itself. Once the Wellbutrin kicked in, and I quit the Nicorette when that happened, the cravings were over, the smoking was over, and the Nicorette was over. After about 6 months I quit the Wellbutrin as well. I haven-t had a cigarette in 14 months. Tell everybody you know you quit, that adds peer pressure to your quitting. It can be done. If you don-t want to smoke anymore, you never have to have another cigarette. I smoked for 20 years, and now it-s over.

No -QuitAssist- crap or other sponsored sites. Just -Home-made- ideas if you can.
Stick a straw, toothpick, or a pen in your mouth instead of a cigarette. My husband did that until he quit smoking and he-s been smoke-free for 4 years now. Save the money you would use up to buy cigarettes and do something else with the money that you-ve wanted to get or really need.
Yep, just stop - cold turkey.
It-s 100% free.
Throw them out. Nicotine gum sparingly as needed. I only used 6 pieces.
Successfully quit a week ago this past Wednesday.
Go cold turkey. Also, cut way down on drinking while you are trying to quit, if you drink as well as smoke. Most people who are trying to quit say that the hardest thing is that they can-t drink without a cigarette in one hand. Another thing that really helped me was to find something to do with my hands when I really wanted a cigarette. I used to twirl my keys on my index finger or play with little pieces of tape to keep my hands busy so that I didn-t fill them with cigaretttes. Also, plan little rewards for yourself. If you make it so long without a cigarette, buy yourself a little something that you-ve wanted, or allow yourself some extra leisure time. The key is to stay really busy and make sure that your hands are active. I quit 10 years ago because my daughter was diagnosed with asthma. Having a really good reason (like not wanting to get lung cancer) and focusing on that can help, too. I don-t miss it one bit, but I still have to have things to do with my hands once in awhile, especially during high stress times. Good luck. You are doing a great thing for yourself.
Cold Turkey!!!!! Just quit.
put a rubber bad on your wrist. and every time you think about smoking, pull back the rubber band and let it go so it snaps you in the wrist. lol. idk...
its sounds stupid, but just give it a try.

Will lungs heal if you quit smoking? -

My brother is 21 and has been smoking for about 5 years. I-ve heard that if you quit smoking your lungs start to repair after 3 days. If this is true will his lungs eventually be completely healed? Also if you have any tips on convincing him to quit I would appreciate it.
YES!!!

It is absolutely worth quitting no matter how long someone has smoked! Every day without smoking will help in the long run.

Within 8 hours the carbon monoxide in his blood will drop by 1/2.
Within 1 year his risk of heart attack will have dropped by 1/2.
Within 5 years his risk of stroke will have dropped by 1/2.

***** Within 10 years his risk of lung cancer will have dropped to that of a person who NEVER SMOKED. *****

In encouraging him to quit, it is best to stress the effect his smoking has on others around him. Tell him that you look up to him and it upsets you that he smokes. He already knows about the risks to himself and sadly seems to think it-s worth it, but he might think twice if you point out that many girls won-t even look at a guy holding a cigarette, or that he would have to quit eventually anyway if he plans to have kids unless he intends to be a horrible influence, and it would be much easier to quit now than later. That being said, though, I agree - don-t nag. He-s a grown-up, and he has to make this decision on his own.

Also, if you have any really cute little kids in your family, have them get on his case about it. That worked for me, my little cousin made me quit.

Don-t be surprised if it takes a few tries. The higher number of times that a smoker tries and fails to quit, the higher the likelihood they will eventually succeed!
Smokers can not go to the instant stop or instantly quit smoking. It will affect their health very much. They should quit smoking in a gradual manner. Perhaps if your brother is smoking 5 cigarettes a day, he should try maybe to lessen 1 stick per day, until his body get use to it, then until he totally stops smoking. Menthol candy or chewing gum can also act as replacement for cigarettes.

Well one of the bad effect of being a smoker, other that health hazard, is having a bad breath. So ladies doesn-t want a guy with bad breath. Of course you know, not good for kissing...he he he! So I guess non-smokers are good kissers.

And of course it will greatly affect the lungs if he stops smoking. Things will be better - it will avoid the lungs to go into cancerous state. So better quit rather than too late.
Yes! As with anything that is overly used, your body can heal itself once it-s given the chance. Especially your lungs! It-s like a virus, you-re sick and coughing and you-ve got really bad pneumonia. But if we take that virus out with the right antibiotics, the lungs are able to repair themselves and are as good as new after a few weeks.

Quitting smoking now will greatly reduce his chances of any problems with his lungs in the future.
Yep, though I don-t know the exact timing of how it works. I-ve been smoke free for 1 year and 14 days, yippee.

However, YOU cannot convince him to quit. He has to decide to do that on his own. If you want to help, call your local hospital and ask for information or a phone number for a quit smoking program and give it to your brother. I took a 7 week class and so got patches and welbutrin for free, and altogether it worked like a charm--but the class is required to get the goodies. You may have a program like that in your area.

But everyone who nagged me to quit just pissed me off--and being pissed is a trigger to smoke. So don-t nag your brother :-).
things will get better, definately., but the lungs can never be completely healed after years of damgae
no they will never repair themselves once the damage is done but it is better to quit smoking so your lungs wont get worse
No THEy Will Still Be BLack BUt IS He Keeps smoKin They CAnt Get Worse And HE Can Die

Suggest me some methods to quit smoking? -

I am smoking for the past 27 yrs. My first wife has been cigars.
the patch, hard candy, gum, coffee, carrot sticks...
They say it-s an oral fixation so if you always have something around like a pen or pencil or carrot sticks to hold like a cigarette and put in your mouth they say that helps...
Go get those chewing gums that slowly stop addiction and if not just cut down on the amount you smoke everyday. Eat healthy, exercise and avoid junk food.
Hi there !
-just stop it-....thats it...
best wishes !
There is one simple way to stop smoking which i discovered after many years of trying, it dosent involve patches or replacements or anything.
Sit down with your last cigarette, light it, and while you are smoking admit you are an addict and that you are a slave to the drugs in the cigarette.
Realise that the only way you will ever stop is by never ever smoking again, not ever or you will end up back where you started.
Its a bit like being an alcoholic, you have to accept the fact you can never smoke again. No ifs, no buts, no maybes...........its over.
Put the cigarette out and get on with your life................its not easy, but its worth it . Good luck
Quit for one day. Tomorrow is another day. Quit tomorrow too, etc. Stay busy. Don-t drink alcohol. Try to stay away from people who smoke. Try the patch. You might want to try a hypnotist. The first three days is the hardest. Quit and stay quit. You can do it, I quit many years ago. Good luck!
Patch, pill, gum...have you tried those yet? Try picking up a hobby. Quitting smokers usually feel a need to have something between their fingers, so try carrying around a pen to chew on or write with...
if u will to ,quit smoking u will suceed in it
the only way to stop is willpower

i tried all those pills and patches , but they never worked , but they never worked because i was expecting them to stop me from smoking

the only thing that can do that is YOU

its not easy but it can be done

i smoked for 35 years and stopped , but had tried to stop numerous times before , only diffirence this time was i REALLY wanted to , and was determined to , sometimes i could have killed for a smoke , but with willpower those feelings pass

all the best
Ian
cold turkey did it for me
I would say patches, nicorette gum, and other things like that that slowly get you off your nicotene habit.
Another thing you could try is coffee. Sure it-s a drug, but its health effects aren-t as bad, as long as you don-t have too much. When you have a break at work, have a coffee instead of cigarette. Your brain will be stimulated, just by a different drug.
Of course this won-t work if you have coffee with your cigarettes.
Read Alan Carrs -The easy way to give up smoking-
It made me quit for 5 years.
Then I broke his rule.
Good luck
I don-t smoke myself but I know several people who have been helped by hypnotherapy.
your a quitter i can tell

In just 30 days or less, you can quit smoking
Blow smoke away, and on your way back to better health... Guaranteed! We guarantee you will quit smoking! If you-ve ever needed stop smoking aids then what are you waiting for, stop smoking today! Eliminate The Cigarette Cravings and Side-Affects Insomnia... tension... irritability... weight gain... nervousness... fatigue... these are just a few of the uncomfortable and even painful symptoms most quitters experience. Just one or two of these is enough to have most people crying -uncle- and racing toward their hidden -emergency- pack of cigarettes. Once that happens, all hope of quitting smoking is lost.

Nicorette patch/gum?

Try this website, there are some good ideas to help you quit, and some good information about it :

just stop cold turkey. easy for me to say... i dont smoke.
Stop buying them for a start... and then get on a NRT program.

Lozenges - The Inhilator worked for me... Along with a great amount of will power!!

You have to WANT TO GIVE UP!!!
Why in the world would you want to quit smoking? Don-t believe all that crap about patches, gums and will power. Life-s too short to waste away. I say if you want to quit smoking, then dont, but if you don-t want to quit, just keep on doin it. With all the poisons we ingest and breathe every day, our lives are already doomed. So don-t quit smoking if you don-t want to.

Smoker 53 yrs
i guess they have a pill that works really well, i dont know what its called but they make tobacco taste nasty and you just dont want them any more. but the best and cheapest way is cold turkey.
Just Try to buy some expansive one....
when u fell like smoking think u r going to kiss ur girl friend after u smoke ........
repeat the same thing when ever u like to smoke ...
Take Zyban (bupropion HCI) It really helps kill the cravings.
I took it for a month two weeks before I quit and then 2 weeks after. Was a huge help, and I was ready to quit.
Well, its all the head dude... once u decide u wana quit, u can be strong tell urself u can do it.. go on for few days and u will reach somewhere if u want. Remember no one will come with u in the grave. Live a happy longer life im sure u can achieve it some day.
Heard of one person do this. He smashed a whole brand new pack and always kept it in front of him in the office - whenever he saw it. He remembered his days while he used to smoke.
All the best is all i can say :)
Take Care
take up drinking... hehe kidding, try to slowly cut down on your cigar consumption... you can-t just quit instantly, it takes time because your body and brain has already been condition to crave for nicotine. you can do it man.

I have been taking Lexapro for 5months for anxiety. I want to quit smoking so doctor has me taking wellbutrin? -

He said Wellbutrin can help increase sex drive and help people lose weight which I need to. I-ve never been on two antidepressants at the same time. Has anyone been on these two meds at the same time and what were the side effects and did help with losing weight quit smoking, increase sex drive? Any feedback would be appreciated-
Doctors often combine an SSR! (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) with Wellbutrin. My doctor did it because he wanted to switch drugs, and wanted an overlap period, because most SSRI-s have to be withdrawn slowly or you get withdrawal symptoms.

I looked up the technical labeling for Lexapro, and it doesn-t recommend against combining with Wellbutrin.

SSRI-s are known to cause problems with sex drive and ability to achieve orgasm--in some people. Wellbutrin does not have this side effect, so doctors often switch people who have these side effects to Wellbutrin.

BUT!

Wellbutrin may or may no treat the sexual side effect you get from the SSRI. it hasn-t been studied much, but in one small study with 47 patients, 66% of them had improvement.

As for smoking and weight loss, I know a bunch of folks who quit smoking on Wellbutrin, but I know even more who failed. And most people don-t lose much weight with it, either, but it might make it easier to avoid temptations.
I have been on wellbutrin for about 3-4 months after a few antidepressants and I like it best. I already quit smoking 11 years ago but have heard it helps. It does suppress your appetite and for me it brought back the sex drive finally my poor hubby really suffered needless to say he is a happy camper now LOL
If you are male...be very concerned about impotence (#1 side effect). You may have astronger sex drive, but it will be even more frustrating if you can-t perform. Everyone reacts differently to meds and their combinations. It is trial and error.
Wellbutrin didn-t help me to lose weight, but it did make cigarettes taste just awful! I was put on Wellbutrin for depression, not smoking cessation.

Apparently, i wasn-t ready to quit smoking, because i continued smoking while on Wellbutrin.

I can-t remember any bad side effects from Wellbutrin, at all.

Good luck!
NEVER BEEN ON LEXPRO BUT WELBUTRIN IS GOOD. IT HELPS QUIT EASIER, WEIGHT LOSS IS SLOW BUT HAPPENS I GUESS, AND AS FOR SEX DRIVE, NO SUCH LUCK. UNLESS YOU COUNT A GIRL WHO LIKED SEX STARING TO TAKE THEM AND NOT LIKING IT WHILE ON THEM THATS THE ONLY EFFECT I HAD, I HAD NO LUCK ON ICREASED SEX DRIVE IT JUST DECREASED. I STOPPED TAKING THEM FOR THAT REASON ALONE! I PREFER CHANTIX TO QUIT SMOKING IT WORKS GREAT ONLY SIDE EFFECT I HAD WAS IN THE BEGINING IT MADE ME A LITTLE SICK TO MY STOMACH.
I-ve not been on both, but I was on Lexapro, which causes a severe -decrease- in libido. And feeling better made me want to exercise more, which led to me losing weight. You could try looking up -Wellbutrin and Lexapro drug interactions- on google or your search engine of choice.
yes i am on wellbutrin and lexapro. i have been on them for about three years and i still smoke and have not lost any weight.
my sex drive is strong though! of course it always has been, lol.
Wellbutrion will allegedly help you with smoking although I-ve never known anyone who was successful with it. Try the nicotine inhaler....it-s by rx only and in the US it-s about $160 for 168 of them and depending on your -addiction- you might use 10/day.....They were/are very helpful for me and you can do something with your HANDS like smoking a cig...not just taking a pill that will cause you sides. Good luck no matter what choice you made.

im 16 and im currently 171cm and i need to grow 4cm, what mst i do besides stop smoking to grow abit mre, my younger brother is 180cm
Is there any specific reason why you -need- to grow 4cm-s?
Some males stop growing in there early 20- so stopping smoking wouldn-t hurt your chances.

damnn I wish I was that tall T__T

you-re a guy though soo...
its pretty tall already.. but..

you need to quit NOW.

because by about 17-19 the male body stop growing at its fastest pace..

also.. excercise helps the back muscles strenghten which lengthens the back.

;)
Smoking stands a 50% chance of causing your death eventually if you continue. Unfortunately stopping will not however make you taller.
well smoking does affect height but i am not sure whether you will grow if you stop. anyway you are pretty tall as it is. but i cant be sure
stop smoking and see!
x
Nothing i-m afraid, just let nature take it-s course. But stop smoking anyway!

I want to quit smoking with the nicotine gum, but would like some info from anyone thats used the gum? -

I tried it and hated it. It was a total waste of money for me. I would say try to quit on your own. It-s a lot cheaper and you can do it.
It works for many people, including me, and is considered to be one of the best (not to mention cheapest) methods. Don-t give up after the first couple of trys of the gum, it can take some getting used to, but is well worth it. I am now smoke-free for over 7 years.

Even now, I still crave cigarettes occasionally and I always make sure I have gum in the pantry for those occasions, particularly parties, etc where others may be smoking, or highly stressful events, which might trigger cravings.

Going cold turkey works for some people too, but rarely on the first few tries. Patches work in the same way as the gum, but don-t address the habit of putting something in your mouth.

There are a few different brands and they all taste different. So if you try one and can-t stand it, try another until you find one with the taste and texture that appeals to you.

Never give up on giving up!

Good luck.
I-m not a big fan of the gum because it makes my mouth tender and will cause canker sores in my mouth. Many people find the gum hard on their stomach as well. However, I found them highly effective in combating the cravings but the downside there was I found myself addicted to the gum (even though it irritated my mouth so much).
One problem with the gum is that you tend to burp a lot. The nicotine that you get is slow to get into your bloodstream, so you don-t get that hit of nicotine from smoking within one minute of lighting up.
It will help you with the symptoms of withdrawal. It doesn-t completely take away the cravings or the desire to smoke. Its much easier than quitting without help.

Good luck!
I tried it , didnt do a thing for me . Also tried the patch which worked ok for a month , then when I changed to the smaller patch , I quit that and went back to smoking . Wish you best in your endeavors

I want to have a baby in 2 years time and I want to quit smoking at least 1 year before I fall pregnant. Do you know of any tricks that work other than nicotine patches or gum?
I had a friend that quit. He would allow himself to smoke a cigarette only at the top of the hour. If he missed the time by 5 minutes or more he had to wait til the next hour. After a week he increased the time between smoking to two hours, again if he missed his scheduled smoke time by more than 5 minutes he had to wait two more hours. You see the pattern. I was amazed he quit. You must keep yourself honest and want to succeed. It also helps to keep your cigarettes in a less convenient place, preferably where you have to get up and at least go across the house to get only one. In your glove box or trunk of your car. These are to give you an idea. Different things work for different people. Good luck.
Every time you buy a pack pause and ask yourself if you could only buy cigarettes or food for your baby what choice you would you make. Be hard on yourself here.
Just don-t buy them.

I gave up smoking after 20 years using Allen Carr-s -Easy Way to Give Up Smoking-. I wouldn-t have believed it if I hadn-t gone through it myself, but it really is all it claims. I gave up so easily, no withdrawls, no weight gain, no mood swings, all the things I had experienced when I had quit b4

After 50 years of smoking and trying every known way of stopping except one, I finally tried that and it worked. I just stopped, full stop! I was going to have my last smoke for the day I I said to myself, -Why bother?- and I haven-t had a puff since. That was 2.5 years ago. I saved $8000!

i quit by cutting down. the most important thing for me was not to give up on quitting and go back to smoking if i did succumb to a cigarette. stay committed to cutting down more and more until you are quit. even then you have to stay committed. but if you do have one, it-s not the end of quitting.

if you have kids and there with you at the supermarket when you buy cigarettes get them to slap you across the face and each time you have a cigarette get them to slap you across the face also get them to stamp on your foot or run into you with the trolley until you throw away the pack good luck

I have found a good way to quit a bad habit is to have a calender in a prominent place in your house and as each day goes by, give yourself a tick on the calender for that day if you haven-t smoked, or a cross if you did.
Also let the people that you live with know about your ticks and crosses, and hopefully they will encourage you to get as many ticks as possible.
Because cutting down slowly works with some people; so you can have a couple of ticks a week. But some people find quitting totally works and then ticking every day you don-t smoke. Even if you end up with a couple of crosses, don-t be too hard to yourself. Just look at the ticks and try and keep it up.
After you have quit for a while, you-ll start to feel better and healthier and that makes it easy to not go back.
Good luck

the best is to radically stop.je should put all pros and cons for you one by one on a list.geen apologies or excuses behind the hand.!
Take a certain date to start and tell it not against anyone that gives fewer obligations and no anxiety if you do not have immediately sucseed .also you can use a tool such as anti-smoke or chew tablets or patches, until you you-ve left the hardest Part behind.
maybe you-ll get a lot of difficult moments but you must remember where you do it and what you want to reach a healthy baby and a healthy life that two things are priceless!
much strength and momentum desired and keep it filled you can do this if you really want!
i-m on the patches atm
i find that especially when i just get up in the morning or after a meal i-m still really craving for a ciggie, thats when i use the inhaler and its basically nicotine vapors that give you the extra hit when you need it most.

and try to find something to do with your hands coz you tend to get really fidgety while trying to quit
stress balls or something, i usually click on my parker pen while at work bugs the hell out of everyone else lol

Is it easy to quit smoking? -

I have to do a report for my health class. i need 5 journal entries on people who have tried to quit smoking. the reason im asking is because i don-t know anyone who smokes. So please help. =D
It is fairly easy if the person really wants to quit. Check out whyquit.com and google for Allen Carr-s Easyway (he had released a couple free books as well as paid ones).

Personally I could only manage to quit thanks to both Allen Carr and Joel Spitzer, who are recognized to be experts at smoking cessation (Allen Carr died two years ago though).
It is not really easy to quite smoking but it is possible to quite smoking. It is a gradual process,i smoked for 24 years and finally stopped.I started by smoking clove cigarettes (djarum blacks) for some weeks, then I tried the patch and finally,I read an ebook which gave me additional inspiration to stop smoking.

There is no way a person can quit unless that person is sick and tired of smoking and wants to quit.....if that person doesn-t want to quit, it won-t happen...
I smoke and have quit before... and will quit one last time....

Quit smoking? -

Does any one know of any free resources to quit smoking
for someone without medical insurance, would like to use the
patch or pills for this problem.
Go to the closest hospital or long term care facility. Find a Respiratory Therapist and ask if you can shadow them as they make their rounds. I-ll warn you it won-t be pretty, but you-ll get a first hand look at your future if you don-t quit. Take care and good luck.
Depending on where you live, try checking out some of the medical research institutions, like medical schools. If you go to their webpages and look under research, you may be able to find some smoking cessation studies which offer free treatment...some may also give a free supply of the patch or other nicotine replacement therapy.

I work in research trying to help people quit smoking and in our study, we offer free counseling as well as the patch for free. Studies like the one I work on are out there. Good luck!
use the gum
Drink a lot of bottled water (even if you refill it from the tap). This does two things. It detoxes your system and satisfies your oral fixation.
how about will power - i gave up november the 25th - havent had one since - no patches or pills - just the serious desire not to kill myself
you can find some of the counter stuff like gums and what not
Depends where you are.

In NYC, you just dial 311 and they-ll send you the nicotine patches.
Check with your local health dept and see what they have to offer that is free.
The local Health Clinic should be able to assist you with this.
dude its hard to quit..
there are no magic patches out there only self conttrol..
There-s a free one step program.

1. Don-t put a cigarette in your mouth and light it.
try psychotherapy through Kaiser they have best smoke cessation programs

My father wants to quit smoking and there is this treatment...? -

There is this centre in my country. There, people who want to quit smoking go and the people over there put some metal or something behind the ear of that the patient. That metal eliminates the chemicals that give the smoker the urge for nicotine. A patient has to go only for 6 days and for 30 minutes. And all is done.

I just wanted to know what this is and if it has any side effects, and if it is dangerous in any way.

Thank you
There is only one way to quit and that-s by quitting and not picking another cigarette up. I did it after being a pack and a half a day smoker and drinker for over 30 years. I just tossed them and toughed it out. It-s surprising how good you feel when you do it. The only thing that works is will power and a love of life and yourself.

Absolutely and Congratulations for quitting! I too used to smoke and it was hard for me to stop smoking, but I-m sticking to it this time.

Yes, you will begin to see some signs and one of them is the texture of your skin. For some reason people who smoke have rough skin, more wrinkles and age quicker.

Smoking affects everything in your body from internal to external.

Sometimes when you stop your throat will start to clear of the mucus accumulated in the lungs. So expect some of that to go on.

I hope you stick it out and not smoke. It-s the best decision you can make. We need to stay away from those toxins its not needed in our bodies!

Keep up the good work!
Probably

Good on you for quitting!
Could be. Ever look up the list of toxic substances in cigarette smoke? It the worst thing in the world you can put in your body. I did it for 35 years.
Congratulations btw!
Keep going! Think of how great you look in a few weeks! :)
yes your circulation improves within 12 hours of quiting smoking, increasing the bloodflow and inturn nutrients to your face - skin resulting in a brighter healthier complexion. and the benifets will continue to increase as weeks go by. cosmetically your skin will improve and your hair will be healthier and shinier as will your nails and you-ll feel geat also.

congradulations on quitting

I want too quit smoking its a disgusting habit i wish i never started,

Any tips other than consulting my local doctor ??
Decide positively that you want to quit. Try to avoid negative thoughts about how difficult it might be.

List all the reasons you want to quit. Every night before going to bed, repeat one of the reasons 10 times.

Develop strong personal reasons in addition to your health and obligations to others. For example, think of all the time you waste taking cigarette breaks, rushing out to buy a pack, hunting for a light, etc.

Begin to condition yourself physically: Start a modest exercise program; drink more fluids; get plenty of rest; and avoid fatigue.
If you do actually want to quit smoking in yourself then you-ll be able to go cold turkey, but make sure to have a cupboard full of healthy snacks, coz if like me, you-ll become a snacking machine and it was directly after xmas so there was tons of chocolate in the house, chucked it all and bought healthier items and managed it, cold turkey, and if you go out drinking, try to keep away from that for a week or two, this is one of the most challenging times, especially in the summer months when everyone is outside...

I quit smoking a week ago and im coughing stuff up? -

like flem and stuff...is this normal?
the fibers in your lungs and throat are called -cicela- might be spelt wrong ne way
nicotine.. not only is it adictive but it also acts as a paralyzing agent, the cicela in your lungs are design to wave about and clean your lungs, when nicotine enters your body they are paralyzed and can no longer clean your lungs proper, that why when you quit smoking your risk of lungs disease goes way way down, cause you body is able to get rid of the toxins you have been breathing in. The flem and such is mucus carring out thw tar and other products
yes
Yes absolutely. And it is a good sign. When your lungs are free from the garbage, they start working immediately healing themselves. There is a lot of foreign matter down in there, and the mucus is being produced to clean house and flush the junk up. You may even cough up some brownish, blackish stuff or even a thin tiny amount of blood. Everybody I have ever known, including my wife and myself, who has stopped smoking... has gone through this healing phase. You-ll be amazed in a month or so how clear your lungs feel.
you should go see a doctor just to be safe

How do you quit smoking when you have to for your health? -

Cronic Phnemonia, Asma, and other complications.
COLLEEN,

First - foremost how do U feel about PRAYER ?
Then u need 2 ask.. How much do I love MYSELF - the most important people in MY life..IF the loved ones in Ur life matter there is THE HOW..Look around U ..
GOOD LUCK.....NOW PRAY
get a coffin and slept in it that-s were you headed
I quit 8 years ago. I used pamprin pms to help when I was feeling -bitchy-. I quit cold turkey.
it is all will power and i know i have some will power but i haven-t taped into it yet so i-m right with you! i also know you have to want to quit and retrain your habits....
i really wish i could help but all iknow is it is the will power and your wanting to not smoke!
start retraining your subconsisiness by self talk saying to yourself that i am not a smoker i live a smoke free healthy life style.... and if you happen to pick up a smoke and you notice it stop it put it out and stand up and do some physical activity.. like jump up and down or throw blank punches... do something that you normally don-t then focus on your goals and your vision of what you want your life to be..
i-m reading this book i have yet to make it to action in my life but that-s what this motivational book says to do to break habits
they used food and over eating! instead of smoking but i have tried the jumping around looking like a fool everytime i lite a smoke... just to see how it felt to do it and when i was done jumping around i forgot about my smoke and kept reading the book...
well good luck
to you and to myself! cuz i will quit smoking here soon i just have to make up my mind that i really do want to and tap into my will power...
Mad luv
Repeat to yourself the reasons you need to quit smoking. I decided to quit smoking this year. Everyday I would wake up and think to myself, I-m going to have a heart attack or get cancer if I keep doing this. I chose a day to quit, and did it! I never thought it was going to work but it did. It-s been 3 months now and although I have smoked a few cigarettes when I was at a bar, I have not smoked on a daily basis. I am no longer addicted. You can do it!
you just do
i tried before and was using the patch but found once the addiction was gone i still had the habit of it. Like not knowing what to do with my hands you have to break both parts so i found a website that offers a natural simulation cigg. for 15 dollars that allows you to pick it up when u feel the urge go to E-Z Quit.com good luck
You just answered your own question. Otherwise, get ready to die.
Cold turkey
try hypnosis
Get a jar. Fill it 1/4 the way with water. When you are done with your first cig. Place it in the jar. When you want another cig. You must first smell the jar. Have it and then put it out in the jar. Keep up with this process. It becomes revolting. I quit this way. Good luck.
Willpower. Find it and hold on to. its also a good Idea to remember how ridicolous you look while smoking.

My brother quite smoking 1 year ago when he figured out that he was afraid to fly. He said to himself... I sat on that plane thinking damn this thing could go down anytime. And I could die! The remarkable part was when he realized that he was killing himself the entire time... and yet he was afraid to die...
you stop Colleen
zyban is a prescription that helps you stop. go to your doctor and get a prescription. try nicorette gums or nicoderm patches. those will help.
JUST DO IT!! how long have u been smoking and how much? if u are as sick as u say i would think that would make it very easy. can u even take a puff without coughing ur brains out. go to the drug store and get the patch or some gum and dont hang out with people that dont support u. go to phillipmorris.com for lots of helpful hints and backup good luck

How can i get my best friend to quit smoking? -

Shes only 14 years old and is way to young to have such a bad habbit.
i know its her decision to do it, and im not the kind of person that tells people what they can and cant do, but im still woriied about her, like shes my best friend and i dont want her to die.
Well explain to her how you feel. Tell her how her habit worries you, be truthful but loving. Let her know you-ll alway-s be there for her. And if you-ve already done that, tell her again but don-t be pushy. I will pray for you and her. I hope my advice is to the best of your friendship.
I have been using green smoke for a while now and i can tell u its 100% a healthier alternative than smoking! no carcinogens carbon monoxide or tar, just nicotine and u can use it to ween yourself off if u like....... but the best part is it looks and feels like u are really smoking but its just water vapour!! check out the website and read up on the benefits I-m sure u will be as impressed as i was!!! u can also use this code disc10-7097 to get 10% off the price should u decide to join us green smokers lol hope this helps

Unfortunately, you can-t, she knows the same facts you do and has made a choice. The good news is that if it kills her, it won-t be for many, many years.
