If i quit smoking now, how much will it improve my RUNNING!!!? -

Ok i just made the track team, and i realized how bad of shape my body was in when i ran the 800 meter. I could only run the 400 meter, i litterally had to start walking after the first lap! ok well i have to be a long distance runner, because im not very fast. but see, i smoke. My question is: if i quit smoking how much will it really improve my running? alot, or not much? i really need to know!
You already know the answer.
A lot. Stop now.
quitting smoking will help with A LOT of things including your O2 levels. plus it will be better on your lungs.

I quit smoking cannabis 2 years ago? -

I quit smoking cannabis 2 years ago? -

but over the last month i-ve been smoking it daily again.
now i-m trying to stop again and have not had any since last tuesday, but since then i-ve been feeling a bit grotty - headachey.

I know i could smoke some as its lying upstairs - i would soon feel -better- but i want to stop for good again.

anyone else had troubles like this?

before i quit two years ago i smoked daily for about 16 years - I really do not want to do it anymore :~(
wow, why ?
It-s because you-ve had a break from it, so it seems much stronger- give it to a mate or chuck it out if you wish to give up.

Otherwise- keep smoking it and expect the consequences. I-m giving up drink at the moment- can keep upright on 3 bottles of wine, but if I had one now, after the break I would feel tipsy on two sips!

I-m no party pooper but it ain-t rocket science that this stuff ain-t good for your body- neat grass which is mild is maybe ok in small doses as is a glass of wine- but three bottles or loads of skunk made from chemicals is not.

Good luck- go for giving up if you can. When it-s not enjoyable- what is the point? you-ll feel better, look better and be healthier- not a lot to lose then!
just treat it like you would normally with nicotine, coz withdrawl is withdrawl, no matter what drug it is.

to give up smoking, i kept as busy as possible, coz i found that when i was bored the cravings really got bad.

Find things to do...exercise, call a friend, go out for a walk etc.

Hope this helps, you have done great giving it up again, dont quit quitting!
You need alternatives, walking, volenteer work, a new excercise program( I avoided this for years and now that I do it I love it).

New hobby or something to pour yourself into. Habitat for Humanity always needs help.

You can also visit a group called -Celebrate Recovery- which is for all kinds of addictions.
Man I know where you are right now. Really the only thing that helped me was to not have it in my house at all. Either flush it or finish the bag and stop for good. When you are a daily smoker and you want to stop but your just lying around the house bored you will have the need to smoke. So get rid of what you have get it out of your mind and erase your dealers number from your cell phone. Best of luck to you.
smoke till you get sick
what you-ve gotta do is lose your dealer-s number. you might be goin thru mental or emotional withdrawal, mainly b/c simply put, everything is more fun when you-ve gone bonkers from smoking.

if you plan on quitting, the next few days would have you feelin out of it and grotty. just eat lots of fruit (grapes and apples are delicious!) as snacks instead of smoking. those $10 can go towards buying mixed fruit instead of a bag of goodness.

good luck!
Was in true cannabis, ie green bush or that shite resin people call cannabis what contains brick dust and bob martins dog tablets etc?

If people only smoked a natural source that wasn-t a strong hybrid with abnormaly high THC, didn-t mix it with tobacco and only smoked it twice a week, there would be NO problems.
Reminds me about the guy who wanted to quit smoking cigars. He said -Heya doc, I wanna quit smoking cigars. Can you help me?-
The doc said -Try this: before you light one up, stick it up your butt as far as you can-.
Two weeks later he returned and said -Heya doc! I have great news! I quit smoking cigars! But now there-s a new problem...you see, I aquired this likeness of shoving cigars up my a.........-
Hey hey hey hey.............
Smoke weed everyday!
Good luck to you.
Aim going through the same, I stopped yesterday - I know how u feel, Pls stop. It costs u time - money.
Its called addiction. And withdrawls.
ooh, ick- give it away! I know how it feels.. you come down, feel crappy, so you smoke more and feel better. Good luck, love. You should just finish it all at once- throw a party- then stop buying. Thats all i can tell you.
send it to me...
;)
16 yrs on weed oh my i-ve heard it all now. whenever you get the urge to smoke another reefer, do something else like make some herbal tea or eat some fruit
then eat it...brownies, yoghurt, whatever floats your boat.
Have a couple of day a week free from draw, it will clear your head and make you feel a lot better.
do something else to preoccupy your time away from any one else who might do this with you! just don-t sit around or you will keep doing it
NO I don-t use illegal drugs.
just like any addiction it take time and will power, you should really chuck everything that reminds you of smoking out, my friend dabbles and finds it very hard to stop, its all about habits, do something different to occupy your mind and you will feel better in a couple of weeks when it is all out of your system the grotty feeling is your body getting rid of the toxins
good luck
Then if you really don-t want to do it you won-t.i-ve never really thought about stopping ,its something i-ve always done.i think when you can over come the having to smoke it all day and just have one or two in the evening then you can control it better.
good on ya.
Don-t give in, stay strong, you are doing well.
Why dont you wanna do it anymore? Smoke til you die homey!
y y y y y y y y y y..??
ok, if you try to shut yourself off cold turkey, it will be the only thing you think about. So maybe try this. Limit the amount of hits you take. Become the one-hit-wonder. You DO build up an immunity to pot, and if you start smoking it like a cigarette, you will be taking too much.

BUT, here is the kicker, When you take your single or double toke, GO DO SOMETHING ENJOYABLE - CONSTRUCTIVE. Put on your headphones and go running in the park. Start assembling a model airplane, fly a kite, what every fancies your tickle. Just do NOT watch tv, lay on your bed or play video games.

This should help you from falling into the -smoke and do nothing until the couch as an imprint of my butt on it and I-m destined to become a big fat loser of a couch potato because I spend all my young years doing zero cause I was high all the time- syndrome.
Mate why are you smoking it again? Have you been having a stressful time lately, or are you bored?

I think you should quit again and consider moving from the area. At the moment you still have contacts who can get you weed. If you moved to another part of the UK where you didn-t know anyone, you could make a fresh start.

Get a job if you don-t already have one. Go to the gym after work or go running for free. Find SOMETHING to do: anything to keep your mind off the weed and stop you getting bored!

Don-t beat yourself up about this relapse. Smoke the rest of it if you want to, as a final goodbye, then vow to never touch the stuff again.

Sometimes we go back to old habits because we don-t realise how bad they are for us. I smoke (normal cigarettes), but I-m planning to quit some time next year. When I do quit, I plan to read loads of horror stories about what it does to your body, in order to keep me away from it. You should do the same.

Incidentally, I worked with schizophrenic patients for a year and about 90% of them were heavy cannabis smokers. It really messes your head up and unfortunately once the paranoia switch has been flipped, you can never flip it back. Trust me, you don-t want to head down that road. Say goodbye to it and start fresh. You can do it.

xx Emmie
DON-T DO IT IT-S BAD FOR YOU THROW IT AWAY AND NEVER TOUCH THE STUFF AGAIN BOOOOOOOOOOO DOWN WITH CANNABIS
It is supposed to be non-addictive, which as you know to your cost is rubbish. However it is mainly a matter of choice, especially if you have only been on it again for a week.

Remember it may damage your mental health, giving you an increased risk of both depression and schizo affective disorders. More worrying, especially in your case as a chronic abuser, it causes brain atrophy=shrinkage, this is cumulative and results in or accelerates dementia. The more you smoke the higher the level of brain damage, stop again now before it becomes even more difficult!
Yes! Tell yourself its not an option at all and your life will be so much better. Its not harmful but it just stops you living your life
well, it is with any thing that anyone is addicted to, once we stop we feel tired, **** up...so we take more and for a while we feel okay, until we have to take it again, and again and again!
But really if you want to quit... you just have to go through this period of feeling rough and all, I don-t know when it will stop, it is different for everyone... but more power to you, as you state you have the stuff upstairs and albeit you feel like crap you have not taken any that takes will power which you must have lots of... don-t worry.... you have to get worse until you get back to as you were before you took any drugs, it is like a spot it gets worse before it goes completely.
I think you are very strong, not only did you put this on here.. so you hang in there... wish I had that much will power!!! Good luck to you.
i got the same problem mate been smoking it every day for the last 10 years im smoking it right now i wish i never but i aint got the will power to stop if u stopped befor u can do it again u got to say no i cant lets hope u can

I have quit twice trying to make that step and do it again..help!
hi Michelle

well congrats on your decision.. whatever you do, don-t quit quitting.. i smoked for over 40 years, and had a number of failed attempts to quit.. the only thing i found that helped me, was the support of others, in a support group.. i am a member of nicotine anonymous, and attend meetings both locally, and on line... meetings are as close as your computer.. as well as great support!!!... good luck on your quitting, in the end there is really no wrong way to quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Pick a meaningful date 2 weeks or more from now like th fist of the month. Then count down every day by putting the # of days left till you quit on a slip of paper on your pack, or where you will see it every morning. This will give your brain time to accept the fact that your quiting. On the last day throw the remaining cigaretts away. Realize it-s gonna be tough but you can do it and you-ve been mentally preparing for two weeks, every time you want to give in tell yourself I really want to quit and it-s not going to be any easier later if I don-t do it now. Good luck.
use a patch. those help most people, if you dont want to then try to find some thing that will take up all of your time
just stop thinking about it

What can I take to clear the rest of it out of my system? Befor I quit, I smoked every other day, so I don-t know how much would be left in my system. I really want this job, and I quit weed for good! Help!

Drink water and cranberry juice, a lot! Eat fruits and vegetables. Don-t exercise too much because THC is stored in fat....so when you burn the fat, you release THC into the blood stream. You might want to buy a home drug test to see what the results are before your employer-s drug test is done. THC usually takes at least 4 weeks before it is completely out of your system, for you, though, it might not take that long, since you only smoked every other day. Hope for the best!
drink a ton of water. you-re probably okay now, but if you-re not sure, drink water everyday for like a week and you-ll be fine.

if you-re really nervous, go to a head shop and get some detox stuff. they have pills that will totally flush your system in like 7 days.

Did you gain weight after you quit smoking and how much? -

Did you gain weight after you quit smoking and how much? -

my doctor said I would be better off gaining 20pounds than if I continue smoking... so I-m just curious do you really think I will gain 20 pounds? and if you did gain weight initially were you able to lose it after a while? was it worth it to you????
I quit 62 days ago, and gained 25 pounds...it-s hard. What-s worse is it-s summer break and i am a very private person. i don-t like anyone watching me exercise. my stepkids have been like my shadow ALL summer (hoping to catch me cheat and smoke?) I can-t even go to the bathroom without someone standing outside the bathroom door to ask Where is the butter? How about bread? Is there anything to eat? Can i get a towel out of there, I need you to take me to the mall, blah blah blah....so when they go back to school in 2 weeks, I will try to work this off. Think i-ve gained all i-m going to though. Something i wish i would have done: found something non caloric to put in my mouth like straw, toothpick...instead i was popping 3-4 packs of breathmints a day, and drinking coke and tea and snacking more.
Id rather have the 25 pounds on me than the cigs though

What is the BEST way to QUIT smoking...without gums and meds? My husband nees help now! Thanks!? -

stop smoking techniques
i know you dont want meds
but this herbel medicine helped my daddy alot!
im not sure whats its called but when i find out ill put it up here.
also it helped my grandpa to be hypmotised
i know it sounds funny but he never smoked a cig. after that
i never believed it could work but it did
i hoped i helped!!
I used nicotine patches for about 6-7 weeks, and have been -clean- for about 8-1/2 years.

Sometimes hard candy or gum drops will help. He needs to try different stuff like that to find whatever will take his mind off the cigarettes. Good Luck.
Without meds...I would suggest meds and a support group.
You are dealing with a severe physical and psychological addiction.
ive heard sucking on hard candy help(usually suckers) becasue it help with the hand-mouth habit like a cigerrete. hope that helps!!!

Any idea what I should do im just a sophmore in high school and I dont want it to take control of my life, i want better grades, a good future in football, and better memory. I just wanna quit, but you all know how hard that is... can someone please help, ive learned my lesson
there, you said it yourself, you learned your lesson, now stop, get a hold on your future and go for it.
everyone says it is not physically addictive, so if you are addicted it is for psychological reasons. My guess is you are trying to escape from something that troubles you. The best way to quit smoking pot is to face what you are trying to escape head on. Maybe seeing a therapist is in order. Also, if you want to quit you need to completely get it out of your life, stop hanging with your stoner friends...
If you can not get rid of bad habit, come to Jesus with genuine repentance and faith. He is your Answer. You will find a life worth-living in Him.

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives us air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives us water to drink and food to eat.
God gives us a wonderful body and a sound mind and life.
God loves us, and we are precious to Him.
The Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Your life therefore has a fantastic and glorious future!

Very easy. . .marijuana causes a psychological dependence and is not addictive. Just don-t light the next joint and develop an interest in something else. . . BTW get rid of all your stash and do not have any available.
i-ve been where you are - know its hard,...
once you stop, you need tools to remain stopped
1. don-t hang around your stoner friends-if they are using-you gotta cut -em loose!
2. go to a support system of some sort (like narcotics anonymous)
3. get honest with your parents if you haven-t already
4. get used to saying no! as in no, i cant go to that party if they are smokin dope there,...
5. clean up whatever mess you made while doing dope, trust god, and be of service to others without expecting anything in return.

i was your age when i was encouraged to go to my first narcotics anonymous meeting because my life was a mess,(it all started with weed-but went way way beyond)
i struggled through the rest of high school hating that i just couldn-t stay away from drugs. i finally got clean after failing out of my first semester of college, drugs were no longer fun and i was no longer in control,....
I-m a junior in highschool. i will be a senior in a short time. The last three years of my life are all a blur to me because i was a pothead. I was almost raped by an older man because i mixed weed and oxy. Trust me, i dont mean to be a preecher but the people who resist drugs are the stronger. be stronger and achieve your dreams. The cool and stupid class clown stoner kids, are the weak and will fade out of high school very soon sadly. Just stop smoking pot. It-s that easy. Get a hobby, make a journal on how you feel each day and your cravings. It-s hard everyday but with self motionation and strong will. you can surely bet it as i did. good luck my friend. if you need anymore assistance or help please allow me to help you.

yeah...i was really into it once, i did it every single day.
but i just stopped. it doesnt help out in anyway, not really a point in it (to me) its not hard at all! its all in your head!
seriously!
the best thing to do is to get in a program with people that have the same problem and are trying to quit at the same time!
trust me ...partnership helps!
don-t go through this alone!
and good luck
just stop cold turkey, my husband has smoked for years and years and he stopped cold turkey, been off for 2 weeks. dont be around people who smoke..
Just stop doing it. Your memory and life will improve afterwards.
Just focus on it really hard. Get another hobby, work out, get some friends who are always hanging out but dont somke weed. Weed doesnt create a physical addiction so its all in your head. Just try to think of other things
just stop.i know its hard because its a addiction but get help or something.dont let it control you.
If you dont want to smoke it then dont. It is not addictive as cigerrettes, cocaine, meth, heroine, or booze. You may want to avoid being around it since you feel the need to smoke it if having the chance. If you make excuses to smoke pot then you gotta learn to deal with those excuses.
Say buddy, I got some good news for you. Many people quit without professional help. Often it will take several attempts befor a person stops. But the slip ups are not a big deal. What is imporant is that you start again. Each time you slip up you learning something about what -Triggered- you to smoke. Keep a list of the things that triggered your smoking and then come up with some other plan on how to deal with the situation.
There might be a place in your area that will provide you will addtional help: it can be free. To get a list contact 411 and ask for a drug treatment center in your area.

It is common for people your age to drop in and out of drug using behaviors. The fact that you are adressing this now suggests that you will do well in the future.

The two biggest problems with pot is that 1. you can go to jail for a long time if you get caught, and 2. you can never be sure if what you are buying is really pot (you never know what you might be getting)

Actually: this can be the best experience of your life. Quitting is difficult, but you will really learn quite a bit about yourself in the process. What you will learn will help you as an adult.

My tummy is puffed out, I quit smoking, have not gained any weight but my stomach is visibly puffed out? -

I work out Monday to Friday run 8.5 miles per day, Saturday run 7 miles and weights every other day, the only think I have changed in my routine is 2 more miles M-F. Why am I puffed out so bad, I thought I was gaining weight but I am the same. I have been smoke free for 58 days.
Sometimes the skin and tissue of the stomach sage because the muscle wall of the stomach and back are weak. You say You have been running 8-7 miles and lifting weights but have been working on your abs? If not this may be the answer to your problem. Add an abdominal workout say three times a week and you should see results.

I used the commit lozenges. I have been off smoking for 2 months now and they really help especially in the first 3-4 weeks of quitting. You truly have to want to quit though. There isn-t any magic medicine that will make you quit. You have to tell yourself in your mind that you are now a non-smoker and smoking a ciggarette is not an option. Take it day by day. Each day without a cigarette gets you one step closer to beating the addiction!! I smoked about 15 cigarettes and day and quit on an impulse. No planning, no anything. I just quit. You can do it! Good Luck!
A few years ago, I read about a guy in one of the advice columns (Ann Landers, I think) who wanted to quit smoking. He bought a bunch of candy canes, and every time he had the urge for a cigarette, he-d suck on one of those candy canes. Mint is good because it helps calm you down. Holding the candy cane gave his hands something to do, and the sucking motion (I guess) mimics inhaling from a cancer stick. He said in three weeks he had lost his desire for cigarettes.

But, really, the best thing is never to start.
For me, it was using the new prescription drug called Chantix to quit. You may have seen commercials for it on TV. That made it a LOT easier to quit than other methods. Once you-re off that drug the urge to smoke does return, but by that time you-ve gone three months without smoking, and the urge to smoke again is lessened by yourself thinking, -Hey, I-ve already made it for three months, I-m not going to start up again now-. Below is a link for Chantix where you can read about it.
I know a lot of people who quit and generally the best way is to just quit cold turkey.
In a communist country you have a point. This is the U.S.A. you can like it,love it or get the heck out......We can talk,drink,smoke....Read and weap///..4,,.,/2/1/1/
i smoke marijuana almost daily. cigs almost everytime i smoke. the one thing thats helping me is working out. i actually kinda like lifting now. also my chest would kill everytime i worked out, so i realized how its not good. of course nicotine patches and ****, but thats not that helpful if ur hardcore. try switching to all natural pouch tobacco and roll ur own cigs. this helps rid of the chemicals and **** in produtcion cigs. just set limits on urself and all should turn out fine. DONT EAT wen u craving. dont wanna see a skinny chick go fat
I have a friend who used to smoke 2 packs a day and quit almost right away when he was prescribed Chantix. I-ve also known people who had success with the patch. It really depends on how committed you are to quitting. If you REALLY want to quit and think you need some assistance, call the tobacco quit line or try Chantix.
Each time you wanna smoke a cigarette, chew a gum instead of that...
The only way that worked for me was to get pregnant. Then I couldn-t do that to my baby. I just set them down and suffered for a day or two and never touched them again.
never start!!!!!!
I am having the same problem... I don-t know how to quit. Next week I am going to try that new perscription everyone has been buzzing about. A friend of mine is on it and is having stellar results... and she-s losing weight.

And don-t forget when you do quit don-t replace smoking with food... that is the only reason you gain weight.
In the Search for questions slot type in -quit smoking- and you will get at least 6,725 results.

how do i quit smoking. my health is falling rapidly but i cant seem to quit smoking. is there any way????

A 10-day coma worked for me. I wouldn-t advise waiting until that happens to you. Entubation is damn uncomfortable.
It-s all a matter of willpower. Unless you truly want to quit then you won-t quit. I need to as well but I enjoy it so much I don-t truly want to.
Stop smoking immediately !
Dont give excuses why you should light up another cig !
Tried several things, nothing worked for me. I understand its a matter of our mind rather than finding a way to quit, i tried several things but i sincierly didnot had the intention, so its your mind game. Good luck, let me know when you suceed.
Quitting smoking is not that difficult if you yourself really wanted it. But don-t quit it immediately, make it slowly. Try to put some menthol candies in your pocket, every time you want to smoke eat candies.
Don-t quit. Cigarettes are your friends...
slowly i sure it work
its all mental. and a complet life style change. you cant do it unless you want to. u need a good suport system. you have to work out to get the toxic stuff out of your system and get a new routen for your every day life.
You can join a support group for it, or try nicotine patches.
My cousin did this: every time he felt the need to smoke, he bit a piece of lemon. It sounds really weird, but he-s a sissy and can-t handle sour stuff. It worked for him.
My sister chewed a piece of gum (not nicotine gum) everytime she felt like smoking.

Use willpower. You can do it!!
Hypnosis. Handcuffs. Give me your wallet. If you can-t buy them, borrow them you can-t smoke them.
Nicoderm patches worked for me, nothing else realy. The patches did a good job of getting rid of all craving. Two weeks, I dropped the patches and was smoke free
Cold turkey. It-s about as fun as kicking a heroin habit, but cold turkey quitters are more likely to never smoke again than the ones that use gums or patches or hypnosis.
get a new hobby like chewing gum, it tastes better and its cheaper.
you should really want to quit so you-ll be determined to finally quit. be firm and stand by your decision to quit. goodluck!
Quit slowly
U need to be determined my fren, I was a heavy smoker, now i hated smoking..
Frens have tried hynotherapy to quite smoking.
Bowse thru webpage that show illnesses and diseases caused by smoking.. may turn u away from smoking
That is what I am trying to do right now. I am taking wellbutrin, a prescription from doctor. It does help, I have been on it for a week and I have cut my smoking in half or less. It is an antidepressant pill that has helped stop people from smoking. My mom quit in one week on it and she had smoked for 45 years and my son in law quit in two weeks.

http://opioids.com/opiates.html

Alot of people don-t like him, but I read -Awaken the Giant Within- by Anthony Robbins. He has a good chapter on Neural Linguistic Programming which describes a powerful way to break any habit. The book is cheap, just don-t buy any of his expensive tapes! I also used the patch which took away most of the cravings.

I-m working on getting into the Sheriff-s office and I have to quit smoking... I-m 21, and i-ve been smoking since i was 16... so it hasn-t been forever, but long enough to get me hooked....

Any ideas from people that have done this before of what I can do to get rid of the urges... esp because my boyfriend smokes... and it makes it harder.
HI Lexies Mommie..

first fo all congratulations on your decision to quit.. that-s huge..about the urges, they are called cravings... and yep there are things you can do.. as a coping tool many use the 5d-s.. Discuss (talk about it to a quit buddy, or a friend)... Delay ( i don-t need one now, the time adds up )..Drink water ( this flushes the system of toxins).. Deep breathe ( many smokers only breathe deeply when inhaling).. Distract (do something else, like you cant smoke while washing dishes)..

actually i picked those up through my involvement in a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally and on line (we are as close as your computer).. you are welcome at meetings while you are still smoking, and if you choose to use the patch or any other method that ok too.. however you decide to quit good luck.. there is really no wrong way to quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Do things to keep your mind off smoking. Ask your boyfriend to smoke outside. If he doesn-t want to, tell him you really need this, if he can-t listen to you, then hes not right for you.Why do you smoke? Consider the reasons you smoke.Quitting smoking is the absolutely, the best thing for your health. It can also be the hardest thing you ever do. People quit smoking all the time. And so can you. Quitting successfully is usually a prossess. It will take some preparation. It may take more than one try. And it will definitely take your commitment,. Make the choice to quit, don-t go back, and you-ll be successful. Think of reasons you want to quit. Be your own inspiration.
Some good tips.
Write your motivations to quit on a piece of paper and carry it with you.
Tell yourself things that will help you quit if your about to smoke.

Planning your steps and knowing what to expect during the quitting process are key aspect to quitting successfully. Your first step is to set a quit date. The date when you decide you-ll never use tobacco again. Your quit date can be the same date as another notable event in your life. Or simply what ever day on the calendar a weed or two from now. Whatecer date you choose, choose it carefully, and stick to it. Quitting takes commitment.
Set a date to quit smoking and try your hardest to stick to it. Rid your home and car of all ashtrays, cigarettes and anything else lying around associated with smoking. If you-ve tried to quit smoking before, analyze those attempts. Where did you go wrong? What made you go back to smoking? Once you identify these triggers, try your hardest to avoid them. Don-t allow yourself to take even one puff once you-ve committed to quitting.
Joining a support group and working on lowering your stress level can also be important tools to help you quit.

Thinking about something other than smoking will help. Try to think about how badly you want to get into the sheriff-s office. I don-t know if it-ll do much, but it will at least help a bit. Just stop and think about it before you smoke.

For those who quit smoking: How long after...? -

you quit smoking does the cravings for nicotine subside? Two days? Three? or does it depend on how much you-ve smoked per day or how addicted you were? Any help and advice is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

By the way, I was thinking about going with the Commit Lozenges - do they work?
i had good results from lozenges and have been smoke free 2 years. the cravings will slowly get better over time, but i-d say the first 3-4 days are the absolute worst. i know how much it sucks, and some days i-d still sell my kidney for a butt, but you gotta do it, and if i can, you can. my mum smoked when she was pregnant and i often say i-ve been addicted since conception! i smoked 14 years. yes, you can!

http://medicinerx.net/zyban.php

.Zyban is what you need to quit smoking for good! Zyban worked wonders for me and helped me finally give them stinking cigs up. I bought Zyban online from medicineRx.Net. they were super fast and I did not even need a prescription! They use only US licensed Doctors and Pharmacies so you can order with confidence! good luck and zyban WILL get you to quit for good!
The cravings never go away.
nicotine last up to 3 weeks in your system, after then its a mental additcion.
I smoked a pack and a half a day. Very very addicted. I quit using the patches. Since the patches contain nicotine, it-s like spreading the pain of the nicotine withdrawal process over 10 weeks rather than a week or two. But, I couldn-t have quit without them. I recommend them highly.
Everyone is different when it comes to quiting I had quit for 3 years cold turkey because I almost missed carried and I never missed but the second I tried to I haven-t been so successful but I am now going to start a medication called Chantix. It works differently than other things because this medication is works directly on the brain to block the cravings and the way it tastes when you smoke. It is new but I heard it has a good success rate. It has to be prescribed. Hope you achieve your goal. Good Luck.
I have been off the smokes for 6 and a half mos. now.I still wish I could have a drag, but i know that I cannot.I used the patch for the first week, just to get through the roughest part, and they did help!I am 55 and have smoked since I was 12 it was such a cool thing to do.I now look 65 and have very deep wrinkles, not so so.I do wish you the very best! To those that can say, just throw them away,i hate you!
OMG...........thats right.......i have to quit..on new years eve....now im gonna be even meaner...and probably gain a bunch of weight...crap...this s.ucks...
two weeks... though there are certain triggers that are tough to topple, like after meals, for me going outside, checking e-mail in the morning... good luck!
Well...I-m one of those dreaded -older- guys...I like 2 tell folks...-Quitting smoking is easy...I-ve done it 27 times...- Well...now it-s been nearly 20 yrs since my last cigarrrette. I started the -patch- when it was a prescripotion. My Dr. insisted that I sign-up 4 a stop-smoking class, b4 he would write the Rx. grrrr! Well, well, he was right ! I HATED that I had 2 go 2 some stupid class to hear that I shouldn-t smoke. I was 100% WRONG! They taught me all sorts of stuff...that the actual Nicotine is gone usually after 72 hours (3 days). Also, that I would need to -change- any routines that I smoked @. For example, if I smoked when I got out of bed...don-t have them in the bedroom. If I sat - smoked while on the phone. Stand up - walk to a different room to talk on the phone. Etc. etc... I had to -change- a ton of little stuff...that - the Patch seemed to work 4 me. It was, in my case, the hardest thing I have ever done. I had smoked 2+ packs a day for 30+ years! But...I DID IT - SO CAN U!!!! We are all different, - what works well for some, may not work well 4 others. To those -Saints- that just throw them out the window...kudos...I would have just gone 2 buy more...lol There are TONS of Support/Help groups - stuff out there....U can DO THIS! Please ask 4 any - all help u need...I am walking proof it is possible...Good Luck to you....- God Bless...
It usually takes about 3-5 days from my experience. I tried the patch (terrible). Finally went with Nicotine gum (worked very well)!

But if you use Nictotine gum, it-ll take care of the Nicotine withdrawal. Quiting cold turkey, with no Nicotine is BRUTAL.

I tried that once.
The first two weeks is the hardest !! If you can make it through the first two weeks, then you should be all set. Also change your habits. If you used to smoke when you would talk on the phone, then try not to talk on the phone too much for a while. If you always smoke after you eat, chew a piece of gum or read a book for a while. Cinnamon is good to help with cravings, buy Cinnamon tooth paste or gum. Good Luck
Its very hard to tell the difference between craving for nicotine and craving for cigarette. They become almost as one craving.

Ask your doctor about the new medication for smoking called -Chantix- It seems to be working really well in the control group
They never totally subside. Plus, don-t waste money on scams like that gum, patches and such. If you want to quit, just toss the cigs you have out the car window and just don-t buy any more.
My hubby quit over a year - 1/2 ago - he smoked 3 packs a day and said once in a while he still wants a cig. but to help him get over it he finds something to do, play with the dogs, take a walk, mess around in his shop, so that might help you to.
GOOD LUCK
I quit 2 years ago but that was after I was diagnosed with lung cancer. the thing i talk through keeps me from smoking but I do enjoy a nicotine patch every once in a while.
its been 6 months since i-ve quit smoking after 6 yrs of it. for me the immediate nicotine cravings took a couple of weeks, but i quit cold turkey. every now and again i miss the feeling of having a cigg or just having one with my morning coffee or for the social thing at work. if you-re quitting remember its a lifestyle change that you have to make too. you might have to stop drinking coffee or alcohol for a short while until you build up that mental resistance to say no to a cigg. i wish you all the best of luck and remember if you-re really ready then you can rise above the cravings and tell yourself one day at a time.

I just heard about it, and I was wondering, if you could tell me about your experiences with it. Does it work and are there any bad side effects? I-d like to try it myself. One more thing, what price range is it in? Thanks in advance!
Nausea
Headache
Vomiting
Flatulence
Insomnia
Abnormal dreams
Dysgeusia (alteration in taste)

monthly pack
1 disp pack $106.99

I quit in the mid 90-s using nicotine gum and the worst side effect was the number of times that I bit my tongue or the inside of my mouth.
I took Chantix from October until just before Christmas. The drug works well to eliminate the physical cravings but you still need to deal with some of the side effects as well as the behavioral habit.

The side effects I had were nausea (for about 30 minutes after taking the medicine and during week 1 whenever I-d smoke). Towards the end of week 1 I was throwing cigarettes out after a puff or two because I thought I would throw up. The other side effects I dealt with included weird dreams (lasted the entire time I took the medicine) and problems sleeping (just the first week or two).

I quit smoking on day 8. I still wanted cigarettes after I quit because of the behavioral side of things but that slowly went away.

My understanding is that Chantix costs approximately $120/mo. My insurance covered it so I-m not sure exactly what it retails for.

Good luck quitting! I haven-t smoked since October.
Chantix is an excellent way to quit smoking with few side effects. For more Chantix information, please click the following link: http://www.buycheaponlinenow.info/chameng.php
I used -will power- by Droopy Dog.

Just decide you are going to do it, and do it.
Throw out your cigarrettes, lighters, ashtrays etc. No -after this pack,- it never works.
You have to start thinking of yourself as a -non smoker-
If you can do that, your in.

Everybody is looking for an easy way out, weight loss, baldness cures, motionless excersize, quitting smoking and there will always be someone trying to make a buck off that.
My doctor told me as soon as I am no longer pregnant he-s prescribing it, it claims it works wonders in a max of 3 months, so if anyone has used it I-d be interested to see what they have to say as well.
Hi! I-m so happy people are interested in the drug, because - from my experience - it-s almost a miracle.

I know people-s experiences differ, but sounds like the majority of people are extremely happy with it. It-s almost magic.

I-m on Day 6 with Chantix. Here-s my blog of my quit on Chantix:
http://chantixquit.blogspot.com
They say that you should try to quit on Day 8, well, by the end of Day 5 I couldn-t stand smoking and the idea of smoking. Cigarettes tasted horrible, I didn-t WANT to smoke, hated the nuisance of it, and just somehow the whole idea of smoking felt very unnecessary.

So I quit today. It-s my first day, but if I quit cold turkey, like before, I-d be climbing up the walls by now. Nothing like that. It was as easy and natural as breathing. I hear from many other people it is the same for them, it works. People with over 30 years of smoking more than 1-1.5 packs a day, they quit. Some quit by Day 10, but they quit and stay quit.

One very important thing I learned that is not mentioned by doctors rather often - you have to WEAN OFF Chantix, do not stop abruptly. That-s all.

In the first days, I felt a bit nauseous at times, felt dizzy a bit, had some gas, nothing major at all. Now it all seems to have vanished, and I-m back to normal, except no urge to smoke whatsoever. I think if you lit up a cigarette for me right in my face, I-d not want to smoke.

Just try it, you-ll see what I mean. I couldn-t believe any of it till I started experiencing it.

Costs $126 in Southern California at a local pharmacy. That-s cheaper than a month of smoking cost me (with $5 a pack). So it-s a win-win situation. (I think most insurances don-t pay for it. yet.)

One more thing - you still have to want to quit for Chantix to work. You can-t expect it to do everything for you.

Best of luck!!
test your own will power. quit cold turkey. I did it when i quit smoking, And i was a heavy smoker too. just a matter of mind over matter.I smoked close to 3 pack a day.

Lol cause your nose is waking up. Most likely food will taste better to you so be careful you don-t over indulge. When I quit I coudln-t believe how bad people who smoke smell... :)
Your habit blocked everything to your sense of smell to your sense of taste, now that you have quit it has opened up senses that you have not noticed. Its good that you quit now you can smell things that are good and bad.
smoking blocks your sensitivity to smells. Now that you have quit smoking your senses are working normally again and will notice lots of smells you didn-t notice before
Your sense of smell is improving. You-ll probably notice food tastes better also. Be careful not to over eat.
Ahhh, you-re regaining your sense of smell that was dulled by the cigarette smoke.
Normal phase. Stick too it . Good luck.

What is the best way to quit smoking???? least stress? -

Chantix
You just quit.
The way I did it I took one cigarette away every six weeks, and when I was down to one I started to skip days until I was down to a cigarette every 3 days then I just told myself that I would only smoke when I felt like it, so that I would never say that I had quit, in the past 5 yrs I have smoked maybe 20 cigarettes. It works for me.
Five Keys for Quitting Smoking

Studies have shown that these five steps will help you quit and quit for good. You have the best chances of quitting if you use them together.

1. Get Ready.
2. Get Support.
3. Learn new skills and behaviors.
4. Get medication and use it correctly.
5. Be prepared for relapse or difficult situations.

1. Get Ready

* Set a quit date.

* Change your environment.
1. Get rid of ALL cigarettes and ashtrays in your home, car, and place of work.
2. Don-t let people smoke around you.

* Review your past attempts to quit. Think about what worked and what did not.

* Develop a plan to deal with cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and times when you usually smoke a cigarette.

* Once you quit, don-t smoke—NOT EVEN A PUFF!

2. Get Support and Encouragement.

Studies have shown that you have a better chance of being successful if you have help. You can get support in many ways:

* Tell your family, friends, and co-workers that you are going to quit and want their support. Ask them not to smoke around you or leave cigarettes out where you can see them.

* Talk to your health care provider (e.g., doctor, dentist, nurse, pharmacist, psychologist, or smoking cessation coach or counselor).

* Get individual, group, or telephone counseling. Counseling doubles your chances of success.

* The more help you have, the better your chances are of quitting. Free programs are available at local hospitals and health centers. Call your local health department for information about programs in your area.

* Telephone counseling is available at 1–800–QUIT–NOW.

3. Learn New Skills and Behaviors.

* Try to distract yourself from urges to smoke. Talk to someone, go for a walk, or get busy with a task.

* When you first try to quit, change your routine. Use a different route to work. Drink tea instead of coffee. Eat breakfast in a different place.

* Do something to reduce your stress. Take a hot bath, exercise, or read a book.

* Plan something enjoyable to do every day.

* Drink a lot of water and other fluids.

4. Get Medication and Use It Correctly.

Medications can help you stop smoking and lessen the urge to smoke.

* The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved seven medications to help you quit smoking:
1. Bupropion SR—Available by prescription.
2. Nicotine gum—Available over–the–counter.
3. Nicotine inhaler—Available by prescription.
4. Nicotine nasal spray—Available by prescription.
5. Nicotine patch—Available by prescription and over-the-counter.
6. Nicotine lozenge—Available over–the–counter.
7. Varenicline tartrate—Available by prescription.

* Ask your health care provider for advice and carefully read the information on the package.

* All of these medications will at least double your chances of quitting and quitting for good.

* Nearly everyone who is trying to quit can benefit from using a medication. However, if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant, nursing, under age 18, smoking fewer than 10 cigarettes per day, or have a medical condition, talk to your doctor or other health care provider before taking medications.

* For information on FDA-approved medications, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW. To find out more about prescriptions, contact your health care provider.

5. Be Prepared for Relapse or Difficult Situations.

Most relapses occur within the first three months after quitting. Don-t be discouraged if you start smoking again. Remember, most people try several times before they finally quit. The following are some difficult situations you may encounter:

* Alcohol. Avoid drinking alcohol. Drinking lowers your chances of success.

* Other Smokers. Being around smoking can make you want to smoke.

* Weight Gain. Many smokers will gain some weight when they quit, usually less than 10 pounds. Eat a healthy diet and stay active. Don-t let weight gain distract you from your main goal—quitting smoking. Some quit-smoking medications may help delay weight gain.

* Bad Mood or Depression. There are a lot of ways to improve your mood other than smoking. Some quit-smoking medications also lessen depression.
it is not easy to quit but the first step to quit is to want to quit and then you are on your way you see my boy fireind is in the quitting boat he falls back some times but i see more progress when he thinks about his loved ones it urges him to just not light it and thats what he is sucessfully using but hey thats just my take on it it may or may not work for you
Support groups. Cold turkey is extremely hard.
the best way to quit smoking is to not buy cigarettes...simple as that. get self control, and focus on other fun things to do to fight the urge for a smoke.
vipassana meditation kills the urge to smoke again

http://thisinall.makes.it
A very informative website you can also get much information in website
Hi,
If you realy wants to quit smoking then you should know some facts.

This is for your information pl. that Cigarette smoking kills nearly about 420,000 people a year, making it more lethal than AIDS, accidents, homicides, suicides, drug overdoses, and fire.

The main risks of smoking are

1. Heart disease
2. Cancer
3. Dementia and neurologic diseases
4. Lung disease
5. Female infertility and pregnancy
6. Male sexuality and reproduction
7. Behavioural and Social Problems
8. Effects on bones and joints

The methods to quit smoking are

At this time the most effective methods for quitting is a combination of nicotine replacement products and the antidepressant drug bupropion bolstered by counselling.

1. Nicotine replacement

Nicotine replacement products provide low doses of nicotine that do not contain the contaminants found in smoke. They are proving to be twice as helpful as other standard quitting methods. Replacement products include nicotine patches, gums, nasal sprays, and inhalers. Side effects of any nicotine replacement product may include headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal problems. People often experience sleeplessness in the first few days, particularly with the patch, but the insomnia usually passes. Patients using very high doses are more likely to experience symptoms, and reducing the dose can prevent them. Certain individuals like people with heart disease, pregnant women, small children may need to avoid nicotine replacement products.

Nicotine patches: Nicotine patches, or transdermal nicotine, can be an effective way to quit smoking. The quit rate for patch users is around 20% after six months. Nicotine patches are available over the counter, but it is best to consult a doctor before using them, particularly people with any medical problems.

Nicotine gum: Nicotine gum (Nicorette), available over the counter, has also been effective for a number of people. Some prefer it to the patch because they can control the nicotine dosage and chewing satisfies the oral urge. Long-term dependence may be a problem with this method.

Nicotine inhaler: The nicotine inhaler resembles a plastic cigarette holder. It comes with a number of nicotine cartridges which are inserted into the inhaler. It has some specific advantages over other slower nicotine replacement products:

Nicotine nasal spray: The nasal spray satisfies immediate cravings by providing doses of nicotine rapidly, and thus may play a useful role in conjunction with slower acting nicotine replacement therapies.

Nicotine tablet: A nicotine tablet that is held under the tongue is also very useful.

2. Alternative and ther Methods for Quitting

Scheduled reduction: One study showed that people who used a systematic withdrawal schedule were twice as likely to quit as those who went cold turkey. The procedure involves the following steps:

Divide the number of minutes per day awake by the number of daily cigarettes; the result is the minute-long wait between smokes.

Set up a schedule with time intervals based on this result and using a timer, smoke only at those intervals; if the -cigarette appointment- is missed by more than five minutes, the smoker must skip that cigarette.

The following week, one-third fewer cigarettes are used and the smoking time is recalculated based on the lower number.

During the third week the count is again reduced by a third, and the smoker quits in the fourth week.
Change daily habits:

Change the daily schedule as much as possible. Eat at different times or eat many small meals instead of three large ones, sit in a different chair, rearrange the furniture.

Find other ways to close a meal. Play a tape or CD, eat a piece of fruit, get up and make a phone call, or take a walk (a good distraction that burns calories as well).

Substitute oral habits (eat celery, chew sugarless gum, suck on a cinnamon stick.) Go to public places and restaurants where smoking is prohibited or restricted.

Set short-term quitting goals and reward yourself when they are met, or every day put the money normally spent on cigarettes in a jar and buy something pleasurable at the end of a predetermined period of time.

Find activities that focus the hands and mind but are not taxing or fattening: computer games, solitaire, knitting, sewing, whittling, crossword puzzles.

Avoid heavy drinking of alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants or mood altering substances.

Enjoy Life
I-d say it-s more of a psychological thing. so how much do you want this? You know all the basic/classic techiniques (cutting down..cold turkey..other activities..rewarding yourself) ..think about how much you really want this first. here-s an analogy...if you-re thirsty...and there-s a glass of water in front of you, but things obstructing the way..you-re gonna do WHATEVER in THE WORLD you can to get that water..not constantly ask around as to how you would get that glass of water.
First you should see a medical doctor.

Hashish is not typically considered to be physically addictive. But the psychological allure of it can be great. I would NOT stop cold turkey but a slow reduction. But see a doctor. There are meds (sort of) to reduce feeling bad during withdrawal. But typically medication will only be used if you go cold turkey. And for some programmes like AA and NA are great. I personally do not think they are good. But individualized therapy is great. And if you are a true addict (most people have no idea what an addict actually is) you might relapse but if you want this enough and work at it you can make it.
And know that just wanting to quit is not enough for an addict. Working at stopping is what will make you drug free.

So see a MD doctor
Therapy is important
AA or NA if you find that helpful
Stop hanging around other friends who use.

My husband and I are having to quit smoking because we simply can-t afford the -cheap- cigarettes anymore. I was wondering who else out there are having to quit because of this and what are your thoughts and how are you going to quit?
We-re in the same situation. We just can-t afford even the cheapest ones. We have enough to get through maybe today, and then we-re done.
How? cold turkey. I was thinking this morning how can we do this? then I realized the word quit means stop, just flat out stop. It-s the only option we have. We do not have medical insurance to go to a doctor to get smoking cessation products, can-t afford the over the counter ones either. so cold turkey it is. I imagine the first week or two will be rough, but it will be better for us in the long run. We plan to chew a lot of gum in the meantime.
good luck to you, and all of us that are now forced to quit.

-edit-
to the person below who suggested rolling our own - that-s what we-ve been doing the past couple years. BUT with the price increase, a can used to cost 17 bucks, enough to last us about 3 days, is now over FORTY bucks. We just can-t do that anymore.
I did and found that SEX was a much better vice, especially with someone who is not a smoker and it keeps me in check. i like the new direction. Why don-t you try sex and let me know your thoughts. Just buy tobacco and smoke it in a pipe if you can-t shake it and need the fix. its a little cheaper but more sophisticated.

Also, if you are going to pay that much for cigs, might as well buy marijuana and enjoy it. If everyone quits smoking tobacco, then pot can be legalized.
I have been smoking for about 37 years and until about a month and a half ago I have been kicking myself in the ***. This quit was one of the hardest things I have had to do in my life! Its not over yet but I came to the conclusion to quit primarily due to the fact the cost is getting way out of hand. Also considering I could NOT find a single benefit that justified the habit, I quit. I surely recommend quiting and for that, don-t start if you don-t now. I have lost family members from the direct infection of the toxins. This is not life, just a miserable death in my opinion. I wonder how bad I have SCREWED up my life and now that I am older, I fear I don-t have much time to enjoy what is left. What a God awful feeling. If anyone is interest I will provide you a link to the help that has got me over the hump. I-ve tried other but this worked for me. I plan on using it it for at least a couple of months yet or more. For me it,it has actually sharpened my senses and this is a good feeling. One more thing, I calculated my savings and I can actually have enough to help pay off my car. Just some food for thought.
I quit when they were $2 pack, but more for my health than the money. I used gradual nicotine reduction along with behavior modification. It worked for me but still wasn-t easy. I just accepted that it would be worth some temporary suffering to improve my long term quality of life. Motivation and desire are the main things you need to quit. You have the motivation, so if you have the desire, you should be able to do it.
Good luck.
Smoked for 27 years and quit 8 days ago due to both the cigarette tax and my constant bronchitis. Tried nicotine patches/gums in the past and they never worked for me because they kept me craving cigarettes and eventually the cravings wore me down till I started smoking again. This time, I used a hypnosis CD (purchased online from www.hypnotistdawn.com for $16.00). Listened to it twice in the past week, and my cravings are very minimal now and very easy to ignore. Kind of rough the first 3 days while the nicotine was getting out of my system, but I then listened to the CD again, and it kept the cravings under control. I feel soooo much better! Breathing better than I have in years! Spending my money on fun stuff now instead of on a nasty controlling habit! Good luck with whichever method you choose!!! ;-)
My husband and I both smoke Camels, which now cost $6.20 a pack here in Georgia. Even the generics cost over $5 a pack now. Should we quit- Yes. Will we quit- Nope. It-s the only vice I have, so I think I-ll stick with it until they reach $8. We have started smoking less though.
Don-t feel bad because tones of people in the world are quiting because of how tight the money is and because of taxes.
cigarettes just went up a dollar and six cents.
It-s crazy because of the economy and the prices of everything are going up, but p.s. your making yourself healthier!
Why don-t you buy loose tobacco and papers to make them yourself? It is much cheaper. I realise it doesn-t exactly look good though.

I am a non smoker. I think people should stop smoking but I don-t think people should be unfairly forced into something. We ought to have freedom and quitting should be your choice. Good luck anyway if you do.
Goverment has u people moving like puppets lol! No im not quiting the only reason i would ever quit is for my health. What im going to do is protest against the ******* taxes going up. Its not my fault that USA bullies want to go to Iraq and take their oil... So stupid and instead of gaining money we lost billions of dollars at war. So i and whoever has the same belief will try to lower the prices to an affordable cost!
boo hoo, govt. finally did something good, by saving your life. (although they wants you to smoke).

I am a former smoker, I did it you can do it. Believe me they want you to think it is hard so you don-t try and waste money on drugs. Who profits BIG from this? again the govt.
No i do not intend to quit because it-s one of the few things i enjoy,

Where is the Gvernment going to get all this tax money they become so dependent on after all the tobacoo users are gone....Bread?......it-s some thing to think about.
I am moving from Marlboro 27-s to sonomas and still paying out the wazoo, i need to quit because i cant afford this bullsh!t
many of our friends have and my bf is going to after this last bag he bought before the taxes went up.. its like 55 bucks for a bag that cost 9 bucks last month... RIDICULES!
We don-t have to quit, all we have to do is incite a rebellion.
im not quiting but it still sucks really bad

This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quit smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK
I gave up smoking with the help of Zyban tablets. They are so good, they do it for you. I smoked heavily for 40 years and had the worst smokers cough you ever heard, and couldn-t breathe. I swear Zyban tablets are fantastic, but you can-t take them if you have had any kind of head injury or taken fits etc. The course of Zyban is 2 months. IT WORKS!

garbage. Told me he loves my heart and smoking makes hearts sick and does not want my heart to die...... He does not know how that comment broke my heart. anybody quit cold turkey??
Get the book -Easy Way to Quit- by Allen Carr. It is working for me!! It helps with the 2 problems related to quitting: 1. the nicotine addiction and 2. the brainwashing that makes you believe it-s hard to quit. And you don-t even have to stop smoking until you have finished reading the book and learned how to un-brainwash yourself so you can be successful.
It-s actually easy! Believe me, if I can do it, anyone can! And yes I suppose it is a -cold turkey- method, but it doesn-t feel like it. In fact, it feels like I am not giving anything up at all but instead gaining my freedom! I finished the book several days ago and am smoke free and am not pining or aching for a cigarette. Nicotine withdrawal is really not bad at all, in fact it-s kind of a rush. I have sensations and feelings I have not enjoyed since I was a kid because the smoking was dulling my senses and I did not realize it till I stopped. I can-t wait for the next few weeks to see what other great things are in store for my body and mind!
Best wishes. You can do it.
Yes you can quit cold turkey. My husband did it about 8 years ago. He just didn-t buy any more cigarettes and chewed lots of gum and sucked on hard candy. I am surprised you are still smoking though with a child in the home since the risks to him are awful just from you smoking. Good luck and you can do this if you set your mind to it.
Yes, I quit cold turkey 23 years ago. My body told me and when you own body gives you a sign, then you had better listen. I had a chest pain one day that just about knock me off my chair. I threw that pack away and that was it. Plus, my Mother-s side of the family had a history of cancer, so that help me quit as well.
Awwww, I too am a smoker, but being torn between the addiction and the child is tough. I used to do it to my mom too. I quit for a year on the patch... cold turkey will make you aggrivated and anxious I wouldnt recomend it. Mostly because youll have a bad experience attached to quitting, too many people try to do that first and it takes longer. The patch is the BEST way! It cut all my cravings 90%. Only trigger points would effect me but those dwindle in time. Best of luck to you. Even though it hurts, you know your son is right.
My mom quit cold turkey... instead she found something else to be addicted to, chocolate covered raisins. She said it was helpful to have something she could munch on to distract her from cigarettes. I-ve heard it varies a lot from person to person so i would say just be patient and try a lot of different things until you see what works for you. It is completely worth it though!! GOOD LUCK!
Aww, your son sounds so cute. It-s good to hear how much he cares about you, and how he-s motivated you to give up. I personally haven-t smoked, but I used to pester my Dad sooo much to give up.
But one day he just decided to quit on his own.
He did it kinda cold turkey, no patches or anything.
Whenever he felt like a cigarette he chewed gum or ate mint sweets. Sure, he found it hard..but it-s worth it and he is saving a lot money and it-s better for his health. :)
