Whats the best way to cope with being around a person quitting smoking? -

I-m living with a smoker constantly trying to quit who does not believe that quittng smoking affects his mood. Right now I-m hoping that it-s go to be the cigaretttes because if he is naturally this way.......
Nicotine withdrawal can make a person very irritable and depressed. The symptoms usually peak after two or three days and then improve.
Avoidance can be a wonderful thing. Find excuses to stay away from your roommate.
MY BOYFREIND GETS ALMOST POSTAL WHEN HE RUNS OUT OF HIS SWISHER SWEET CIGARELLOS, SO I UNDERSTAND YOUR PAIN. HE IS NOT BEING A SNOT CUZ THAT IS THE WAY HE IS NORMALLY. HIS BODY/MIND IS GOING THRU A WITHDRAWL. THIS IS WHY HE IS HAVING SEVERE MOOD SWINGS. HE MAY WANT TO CONSULT A PHYSICIAN OR AT LEAST SOMEONE AT THE HEALTH UNIT, TO SEE IF THEY CAN GIVE HIM SOMETHING FOR IT, OR IN THE VERY LEAST, TRY SOMETHING OVER THE COUNTER. IF HE WON-T DO THIS, OR IT KEEPS GETTING WORSE, TRY JUST LEAVING HIM ALONE FOR A BIT, SLIPPING A FEW BENEDRYL IN HIS COFFEE IN THE MORNINGS (HAHA), OR SLUGGING HIM UPSIDE THE HEAD (PULL A -MADEA- ON HIM LOL). GOOD LUCK! I HOPE HE IS SUCCESSFUL IN QUITTING. IT IS VERY HARD TO DO WITHOUT A SUPPORT SYSTEM AND MEDICAL HELP. I WISH HIM WELL!!!!
Give him his space. Compliment him when he succeeds and don-t even mention cigarettes when he -fails-. The struggle he is having with that nicotine is probably so strong, he doesn-t even realize it affects his mood.
Keep their mind occupied and go out even if it is to do shopping, a lot of smokers do it because they are bored, go to places where you cant smoke for a few hours so they get used to it, watch sporting events where people are not smoking, cafes where you cant smoke, go for walks, and get involved in a hobby something the person is interested in , if they are not sure try a few things to see.
i can vouch for the fact that quitting smoking does affect your mood, i have just recently quit, i guess the best way to deal with it would be to just be patient, give it time, he will eventually return to normal.
First, if he gets irritable and starts an argument, be very calm, loving and caring. Do NOT constantly tell him his moods are from quitting smoking cause that will irritate him more. Do help him find things to do such as rent movies...go bowling etc. I took up knitting and knit enough scarves to circle the planet LOL. I found the patch to be very helpful while my fiance liked the nicotine gum. He should try one or the other.....or the pill Zyban
