What is the best thing to do to help urself if u have emphysema?..i already quit smoking 1.5 years ago? -

i lnow i can-t cure it but what can i do to make my life more better activity wise?..energy wise?..i hate this huffing - puffing all the time..am on 02 24/7, pednesone, spiriva, advasir, theo, have a nebulizer too but i still get short winded just walking to the bathroom so what can i do to strengthen my lungs?
You could be short of breath if you-re not in good shape. Try walking, even if it-s only up and down a hall way or from one room to the next. Increase this a little each day. Lay down on you bed and place you hands lightly on your abdomen. Breathe in through you nose for a count of three (your abdomen will rise) and out through your mouth for a count of 6 (your abdomen will return to normal). Take in a deep breath and blow into a baloon. Keep doing this until you blow it up. Sing, sing, and sing. Laugh as often as you can. Even with all this nothing beats walking. Start slow and increase speed and duration over time. Good luck.
the deep breathing exercises and movements of Yoga help me a lot. I have COPD and positively hate the Combivent I am on and don-t really want to go to steroids due to their effect on glucose levels.

has lots of excellent descriptions of how to do the deep breathing yoga exercises.

Are symptoms on Chantix really that different than symptoms of quitting smoking without? -

Are symptoms on Chantix really that different than symptoms of quitting smoking without? -

I started taking Chantix yesterday and about 30 minutes after this mornings pill (day 2) I started having diarrhea. I haven-t quit smoking yet, but I know the pill is blocking nicotine receptors so is it like I-ve already quit and should be expecting the withdrawal symptoms now? I also feel kinda blah, lacking motivation, all symptoms that are familiar to me from previous attempts at quitting, the only differences are Chantix and the fact that I am still smoking.
Be VERY careful while on chantix! Man that-s one scary drug.

Make sure the one-s around you are aware of you taking Chantix so they can hopefully intervene should things get really bad for you. Symptoms can persist even AFTER you are off the medication.

Take care and Good Luck!
Yes. Give it some time, it should block most of those symptoms. If you-re still smoking after 3 months, go on a second three months. If it doesn-t work by then, it-s time to give up, but it has a very high success rate.

EDIT -- Only a minority of people get scary side effects, for most of us it-s just a bit of nausea and vivid dreams.

Is it possible for me to grow to a hight of 175cm if i quit smoking? -

im 16 and im currently 171cm and i need to grow 4cm, what mst i do besides stop smoking to grow abit mre, my younger brother is 180cm
Is there any specific reason why you -need- to grow 4cm-s?
Some males stop growing in there early 20- so stopping smoking wouldn-t hurt your chances.

damnn I wish I was that tall T__T

you-re a guy though soo...
its pretty tall already.. but..

you need to quit NOW.

because by about 17-19 the male body stop growing at its fastest pace..

also.. excercise helps the back muscles strenghten which lengthens the back.

;)
Smoking stands a 50% chance of causing your death eventually if you continue. Unfortunately stopping will not however make you taller.
well smoking does affect height but i am not sure whether you will grow if you stop. anyway you are pretty tall as it is. but i cant be sure
stop smoking and see!

Nothing i-m afraid, just let nature take it-s course. But stop smoking anyway!

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

I quit successfully over 10 years ago and here is how I did it:

A reward: I made a deal with my spouse to buy my dream motorcycle one year after successfully quitting. You can create a reward yourself that really moves you. It should be something really significant.

I created a plan where I would set out my cigarettes for the next day each night and reduced the number by one each day. So the first day was one pack, the next day was 19 cigarettes, the following day 18, etc,
It worked.
Stay away from your acquaintances that smoke at first. They-ll try to ruin your plan.
Get friends and family to write little messages on little pieces of paper. Eg: Please stop smoking! i love you--
Put them all in an empty cigarette box, every time you need a cigarette, pull out one message and read it. It will make you realize you need to stop, not just for you and your heath but for others around you
Good Luck

You got to have controll over 1-s self. Mind over mater! set your mind to it and ,you will.
Get the patches at a pharmacy that help you quit smoking. Chew gum. Just don-t smoke. Quit cold turkey. It will be hard but I know you can do it. Good Luck to You!
Was listening to the radio yesterday and a guy said he quit by getting acupuncture treatments.
You should try this special gum that stops the addiction im
not sure what the name is but you should have a pen and a pencil ready when you watch tv because every once in a while a commercial will show up about smoking and will give you a number to call.
www.QuitNet.com Best support site, ever. Go there and sign up. Go to their QuitStop forum, which is for newbies.
Ask questions, read, poke around the site.
That place saved my life.

Also, I personally agree with using the NRTs, like the patch, nic gum or lozenges. Newest thing out is Chantix which is prescription only.
There is a medicane called Chantix. Go to the Dr. and talk to them.
A Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking- will tell you.

My docter says i should quit smoking, shold i get a secong opinion? -

or should i learn hoe to spelll second?
No you really should quit smoking first and then learn to spell what ever words you don-t know
You can get a second opinion right here. I think everyone who Answered is telling you to quit.

Quitting smoking is harder than quitting the most addictive drug out there. Actually nicotine is probably more addictive than any other drug out there.

I-m a nonsmoker and have been a healthcare teaching assistant and have worked at hospitals and home health care agencies. I have seen patients lose both legs and eventually die due to complications from smoking. I have seen patients gasping for breath with end-stage COPD hooked up to oxygen who still cannot stop smoking. I have seen patients in their 40-s die of heart attacks from cardiovascular disease caused by smoking. I have never smoked and have much sympathy for those who do and who want desperately to quit.

See if your doctor will suggest medication therapy (nicotine gum, nicotine patches, Wellbutrin) as well as a support group. Smokers who did both of these had better success rates when trying to quit.
smoking is in no way nor how good for your body. everything asbout it haarms youself and others but the best part is, as soon as you quit smoking your body starts to heal itself, it takes time but the longer you smoke for, the longer it takes to heal.

so i would quit smoking for your own good health. if you have a family, that should be enough to make you stop.
Smoking in moderation, like one cigarette a day is fine. The problem is how to keep the darn things fresh. I freeze mine.

Next thing you know, your doc is telling you to stop drinking.

The point to life is LIVING. Enjoy it while you are here.
Just remember, a candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long.
Spell check is a wonderful thing. :o) You know you could go to 20 different doctors, and not one of them is going to say oh, go ahead and smoke. But, go get your opinions. It is your right. But, I think we are all just trying to save you time and money.
I have a feeling you are going to get hundreds of opinions on this one.

Quit smoking, it-s bad for you. That-s pretty much all there is to it.
its hard to quit smoking
spend your time learning how to spell as to distract your attention from smoking.
DONT SMOKE. YOU-RE KILLING INNOCENT PEOPLE AROUND YOU.
QUIT!!!!if you quit you could live way longer...if you smoke and die there is a chance you can go to the opposite of heaven..because its like killing somebody..and your somebody
I-ll give you the second opinion : Quit smoking. It-ll help prevent unnecessary problems. Good luck.
yes get a secong opinion, if it wasn-t for spell check i would be sitting right next to you
