Is there an easier way to quit smoking? -

ive been smoking for 2 years and i am extremly addicted but if im doing somthing i can go hours without doing it.It dosent show that i smoke i can run and it dosent slow me down but cancer runs high in my family.

any suggs.....??????
You can ask your doctor to give you something for it. There is a new medication called Chantix. You take it twice a day, morning and night. It confuses the endorphines in your brain and makes you not even want to smoke. The first week you start it, you smoke like usual. then the second week, you slowly cut down until you-re not smoking at all. People usually take it for 3-6 months. my boyfriend took it for a while and it really worked well!! until... he lost his insurance couldn-t get his refill and now he-s smoking again. uugghhh!!!!! but anyways, talk to your doctor and see what you can do!! Good luck!!
First, smoking is a habit, and we all know that habits are hard to break. Think about when you need to smoke.

Second, we know smoking is a psychological habit, but it is also a physical addiction. The fact is that about 90% of those who smoke, are clinically addicted.

The nicotine of a cigarette actually causes a temporary -high-. When you deprive your body of the nicotine, you actually cause physical withdrawal symptoms, such as severe cravings.

So it really makes sense why smokers have such a difficult time. Smokers are faced with a psychological and a physical discomfort.

I am using an audio hypnotherapy program on CD to assist me in breaking the habit and having success. You can get more information here:
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

All that is required is a bit of motivation (you have that already with family history of cancer), self belief and determination. I agree with a previous answer, you are not extremely addicted. If you think this you are holding yourself back because you are placing unnecessary negative beliefs in your head. Positivity is key to quitting.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
I-ll tell you from personal experience, and the experience of several people I know that stayed quit: Cold Turkey.

It-s not fun, but it is the quickest, most successful way I know of. Think of it like taking a Band-Aid off - the quicker you do it, the less you draw it out, the better. Nicotine replacement methods maintain your chemical addiction, and that-s not what we want.

You will need 3-4 days. Take a weekend and a vacation day or two. Nicotine leaves the body after about 36 hours. Stay home, don-t drink alcohol, don-t watch movies where someone may smoke. STAY BUSY ALL THE TIME. Play video games, learn something, build a puzzle, just keep your mind off of smoking.

Try and remember - the first 3 days are the hardest. Every day after that, it gets easier. Trust me. After 3 days, the nicotine is gone. The physical addiction will go away surprisingly quickly. The mental addiction varies, but becomes easy to manage.

All this requires is a lot of willpower for 3 days, and a little after that. I smoked for 9 years and am one of the least motivated people I know.

Good Luck!
First, you are not extremely addicted or you couldn`t go hours without smoking. Secondly, you must really want to quit or you won`t succeed. And last there are smoking aids that make quitting easier and your local hospital should have smoking cessation classes for you to attend where you are given pointers on how to help break the habit.
It shouldn`t be that difficult for a 2 yr. smoker as opposed to someone who has been smoking for 25 yrs. Good luck.
I don-t know if you-re able to get these, they-re expensive..
They-re called Chantix, they-re pills that you take and it like ELIMINATES the urges.

I worked for me!

I-m wishin- you luck

how many trys did it take you? thankyou
hi johnbb..

i smoked for over 40 years... the last 5 or so of those, consisted of one failed quit attempt after another.. in that time i used patches pills, and a variety of herbal products.. mostly couldn-t quit, or smoked again, almost immediately.. I did however keep trying, as my health was fading..

the good news of course is, that I did find a way to quit..i have been nicotine free for over 5 years now..ultimately the thing that worked for me was the realization that i couldn-t do it alone.. I joined a support group.. together, we do things, that none of us could alone.. I attend Nicotine Anonymous meetings both locally and on line.. on line meetings are as close as your computer...however you decide to quit good luck, there is simply no wrong way to quit!!

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
Try and fill the void with something else that you enjoy doing but that isn-t as harmful to your health...

Either that or simple go cold turkey

I need tips on how to quit smoking? -

Please only answer if you were a smoker who successfully quit, and unlike most people who ask questons on here I will give 10 pionts for the best answer!!!
I agree with Sean F who is a senior member. There are nicotine chewing gum that help a lot in quitting smoking. One of my friend tried them successfully. You must give them a try. They give free samples of around 100. If you find them working, you can continue, you can find them at
In January I was prescribed welbutrin for depression. Apparently it also can help you quit smoking. After a couple of weeks I noticed I was no longer wanting to smoke as much so I decided to just quit. It was a bit of a struggle for a couple of days, but I feel great now.
Really it is how bad you want to quit. You can try gum or patches as aides but sometimes they become addictive too. I am currently thinking about quitting. I have tried but my mind set if very weak. Really its all in your head. I think next time I try i will try cold turkey. One thing i will do is not carry cash with me because if i have it I will spend it on a pack of smokes.
I am not a smoker but I read somwhere that chewing gum is helpful in quitting smoking.
eat imps.get some patches off your nurse.inhalators work well.

Attempting to quit smoking again? -

ok this is like the million time i try to quit smoking, any tips that could be helpful? i heard that replacing the habit with something good works, but what did u replace it with? everytime i wanna quit smoking i just feel i need them somehow ,but i dont give a damn anymore if im ready or not,i do wanna quit wether im ready or not . also i cant afford all the meds and other things to buy to be able to quit,so i wanna go cold turkey , but how to do it ? thanks
Read Allen Carrs book. -the easy way to stop smoking- I-m halfway through it. Although i haven-t quit yet, i do find reading the book very helpful, as it prepares you to stop.

One of the things he says, is that don-t think you are giving up anything, (as that will make it feel like you are being deprived) in fact you have loads to gain!
every time you get the urge to smoke, chew gum, i don-t know why but there-s something about it, it helps, also try to hang out with people to take your mind off it and if you have a close friend (who doesn-t smoke) ask if they would stay with you for a few days so every time you want to smoke they can make sure you don-t. and make sure you stay away from any kind of bar or place that smells of smoke so it doesn-t make you want to.
i think its great you want to quit because the reality is there going to kill you at a young age so its better to stop soon before your body cant take it anymore
i wish you lots of luck!! (-:
well the other answer took my idea...but like a sucker kinda like a dum dum...and u can even pretend ur smoking it, too! plus itll taste good =]

and just try as hard as you can to not do smoke and stuff...
try eating hard candy or chewing gum in place of a cigarette when you get the urge get a candy even a jaw breaker might work sore or tart candy just a suggestion good luck

Why does it cost me more to quit smoking than it does to keep smoking? -

nicadrem cq patch cost as much as 5 cartons of cigs i get
some states have smoking cessation campaigns and offer some products to start you on your way. also there are other methods including the National Cancer Institute-s free Smoking Quitline (1-877-44U-Quit). you may be able to find out about the specifics in your state by doing a websearch including the words: (state name), quit, smoking, health department etc.
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
good luck on that journey, it-s better just to quit cold turkey. it may take a long time for u to quit but just keep trying. You-ll get better and better at quitting until u get it.
True, but hopefully once you finish with the patches, you won-t have to buy either, and the savings will quickly equal more than you spend quitting.
I-m not so sure it costs so much to quit. Most local clinics offer smoking cessation classes for free.
then keep smoking and die
your loss

How can I get my wife to quit smoking? -

How can I get my wife to quit smoking? -

She has smoked for over 30 years and I can see it is effecting her health.
Part of the problem - since she-s smoked for so long - is likely that it has become such a part of her routine that she can-t imagine not doing it. Most people start smoking for one reason or another but, after awhile, it becomes habit - the real reason they smoke gets lost in the habit itself.

The problems that you face in getting her to stop are many, a lot of them from the relationship standpoint. You have to consider a few things...did she smoke when you met her? Well, if she did - you courted - married her as a smoker, she might not take very well to you trying to get her to stop, no matter what the health concerns. She might take it as you trying to find fault with her...trust me, I-ve seen this happen. The other problem is that you open yourself up for some potential discovery if you try to get her to stop in that she might retaliate with all of the things that YOU need to do to be healthier...most men don-t enjoy this sort of conversation or its implications :)

My suggestion would be to have a heart-to-heart talk about it. If it does not go well, talk to your doctor - ask him or her to discuss the issue with her the next time she visits. Smoking can cause so many issues that there is sure to be something that the doctor can point to as a reason that she needs to quit. He or she can also prescribe something to help her.

Good luck! You-ve chosen a hard road but hang in there...

Almost forgot! If she tries to stop, your only answers to ANY rant or question is, -Yes, Dear- - -I love you, dear!- It also helps if you hand over the money from the cigarettes on a weekly basis or use it to buy her something nice...
Get rid of her ciggarettes.
Take all the money ways from her and you do the work...

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
It is a really tuff thing to quit. I smoke and I have tried to 9 times. New Years I am going to try again. It is really difficult to quit and those who do not smoke think it is easy when they have never been there.

Aside from that. I suggest you get her in to see a doctor or convince her to do so. Her doctor can give her the low down on the health risks of smoking. He could also get her on a program or meds to help with it.

Tell your wife how important her health is to you and that you will do anything to help her kick the habit. Support her in anyway you can. The more support you give and the more you show her you care about what happens to her, the more she may want to quit becuase she loves you and care about you and that her health has become a major issue.
the patch, the phillip morris website has millions of ways and reasons to help you quit smoking! i-m quitting now! :)
One way my friends picked up knitting to stop smoking.
JUST HIDE EVERY CIGGARTTE AND TELL HER --I LOVE U-- AND THAT SMOKING IS GETTING ON YOUR LAST NERVE PLEASE STOP .IF SHE LOVES YOU SHE WILL STOP.

after 10 years of smoking cigarrate i quit 2 weeks ago lately i am felling restlessness, anxiety, having a vormitting feeling, have loose motions are these aftereffects of quitting
Yes, it will probably take a few weeks for those symptoms to subside ( of course you may want to check with your doctor, you never know). Then it becomes a huge mental game. I quit almost two years ago and there are still times when I want to reach for one. Good Luck
you are having withdrawal symptoms. They will go away soon.
smoke sometimes easy as that...

I would say something. Most people I know never quit. UNLESS they have help from friends. They may be an ***, and say it-s none of your business, which it really isn-t, but that-s what I would do. I personally really hate smoking and almost hate people who do. I always help anyone who-s trying to quit. Whether I know them or not.

Thanks. I try my best. ^_^

Nothing....it-s none of your business.
Nothing, its their choice and if they really are serious about quitting, they will do that themselves.
help them really stop smoking...
It-s such a bad habit...
stay out of their life, its their business, not yours... if they wanted people to know they continued to smoke they-ll tell everyone themselves... it-s their life and their lungs leave them alone!
Butt out!
Quit spying on me...
Keep your nose out of their business. if it happens to be a very close and dear personal friend, simply walk over and say something supportive....such as...having a rough time with it aren-t you? If you-ve never been there, you can-t imagine how difficult it is to ignore the contant cravings. I feel bad that this person is hiding their smoking. It would be more helpful to be open and honest about slipping up.
