Do i have to quit smoking for a week after i get my teeth pulled dentist said ill get dry socket? -

Probably not for a week, but you should stop for at least 4 days. Some sources say 3 days, some even say 14 days. This can depend on how complicated your extraction was and how well you heal.

Any kind of suction (smoking, using a straw) can cause dry socket. Dry sockets are quite painful and will delay the healing of your wounds. Smoking causes capillary spasms, which can prevent blood from getting to the healing area, so it can further delay healing.

I had four dry sockets after my wisdom teeth extraction. Mine were caused by not being able to close my mouth because the oral surgeon fractured my jaw.

You do not want to experience the pain of dry sockets. I would rate it up there with childbirth and migraines. I would follow your dentist-s advice.
I never listened to that recommendation and I was OK.
A former coworker ignored the dentist and he got dry socket.
He must have been hitting on the cigarettes hard because it-s the sucking that can pull the clot out of the socket.
Don-t even go to Wendy-s and try to drink a Frosty with a straw.
Do yourself a favour and just quit smoking.

Think how much money you-ll save, how healthier you-ll be and how you won-t stink of stale smoke all the time.

Not just that, you won-t constantly have to have a fag end stuck in your mouth making you look stupid.
I smoked after I got my wisdom teeth pulled out

my gums got all swollen, but I rinsed with salt water like a madman and it was all okay...

I think you should listen to your dentist. Not only will you get dry socket you will risk sucking out the blood clot that formed when he pulled your teeth!

Today, I quit smoking. Any words of advice and encouragement? -

My boyfriend was hospitalized earlier this week and it scared the hell out of me. I told him that we both need to quit smoking. He hasn-t stop. Hopefully, I can quit and set an example for him. What else should I do when I -need- a cigarette? At what point will I know I have overcome this 10 year addiction?
First of all, congrats. I smoked for 9 years, quit for 4 months, started back up and finally quit for good again. The first time I -quit- was rough. I was mad all the time and thought about smoking every day. It took about 3 full weeks to not feel the cravings anymore. I highly suggest not drinking liquor for awhile either, because every time I drank, I-d smoke. I eventually had to use Wellbutrin which was the best thing in the world to help me quit. Just be patient, let your friends and family know that you-re not purposely being a jerk (if you are), and if you wanna smoke.. DON-T. Take a walk, eat some carrots, chew gum, do anything you can. it-s not easy but I know you can do it. Good luck and stay strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I quit on New Year-s, simply because it was a good landmark occasion. I think the easiest way to quit is to wean yourself off. Not only do you physiologically need cigarettes right now, but you have habits and behaviors associated with smoking (smoking after certain meals, the method you light up and flick your ash, certain friends you smoke with, etc). The best method (other than pharmacological approaches) is to find a replacement. I found exotic teas I like, and now cure and blend tea. Rather than light up, I make a cup of tea. It-s amazing. You will not hear one wheeze when you walk up a flight of stairs.
I don-t think you ever overcome addiction, you just learn to live with it.
Good for you on your decision to quit though. Please know that this will boost your immune system and make you smell better. If your boyfriend persists in his smoking habits, it might be a good time to separate yourself from him.
My dear, smoking has no addiction. It-s all in your head. I am now 65 years old. I have smoked for 30+ years and I quited 10 years ago. It was so easy. I often joked with my friends that I can testify for the cigarette companies that smoking is not addictive.
CONGRATULATIONS! =]

just try to stick with it.. it will most likely be hard. i have faith in you :)
encouragement you do deserve. i hope your b/f is okay? cigs the cause? you will know when your done as you will never crave them anymore. TAKE ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!!and reward yourself after every week of non-smoking.when you need a cigarette remember your b/f hosp event. and try walking to take your mind off smoking. remember if you slip?? start over the very next day. sometimes in most cases it takes 4-5 tries. also hospitals have cigarette group. you can call non-smokers anonymous. or nicerette has a toll free number. advantages- better lungs, heart, taste buds, good smells. i have FAITH IN YOU!! let me know if you ever need to talk. e-mail and i will give you my phone # or i can call you and be your support person. i am a nurse. this is a new beginning for you. set that example you will benefit in more ways than one. plus you will have additional money for things you want or savings. - good health to you. now a nonsmoker. REMEMBER, if you would relapse dont torture yourself it took me several trys everyone is different. maybe, your last cig WAS your last. i pray. and i will say alittle prayer for you tonight as well. thanks for listening and reading. dont forget me!! i will be their only an e-mail away.
My dad smoked for 60 plus years. When he died in 2001, my mom didn-t realize how much he spent on his addiction. So, if you stay away from them, you-ll have lots more money :)
First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!
Quitting smoking, or any other addictive, in my opinion is one of the hardest mental challenges!
You-re halfway there!!

Try looking for patches etc. (like gum or something too) that can slowly ease you off when you feel like you -need- one. I-m sure you-ll start to feel great as it wears off!! My uncle, a 20 year addict, finally decided to quit a few years ago and now, he says, he feels great -- more energy, more enthusiasm, and everything tastes like it has more flavour.
In my opinion, not that i-ve ever quit (because i never started), you-ll feel it when you feel positive, full of energy when you wake up -- ready to face the world without cigarettes

Hope this helps
take up bubblegum until the cravings fully wear off
I quit several times, for almost a year each time. It seemed like I proved I could do it, so it was OK to go back. This time it has been 2 years at the end of this month, and I won-t go back. The thing that keeps me from doing it is the thought of having to quit all over again, from the beginning. It almost hurts..it-s so hard. I think I have replaced nicotine with caffeine, because when I get a craving I get a cup of coffee. Also, just take it one craving at a time, they pass pretty quick. Good Luck! If at first you don-t succeed, try, try again!!!!
I always tell my patients that every cigarette they smoke is a ticket to the hospital. It isn-t a question of if, it-s a question of when.
be strong and commit to your goal to quit
Stick something else long in your mouth and suck on it,and blow.Already did and will tonight too.
Just don-t buy any and don-t smoke any. That is a disgusting habit. I will not even consider dating a woman who is a smoker, ewwww...
only Today??? but you deciding is good but after i didn-t smoked for 26 days i started all over again
my one and only word for you is -GOOD-JoB!! :] You should be proud for your self and keep up the work and then you just need to keep your goal up and then by the point you might not even know that you have stop smoking already!!
When you have a few drinks and do not want one, or you move to CA or NY where they do not allow smoking indoors. Just do not do it, no matter what . Make an agreement with yourself not to do it. FOrm a bad opion of it, or just look at the bags under your 64 year-old uncle-s eyes (after 50 years of smokin). That shoud do it.
You asked for advice. Here it is. Look at pics of autopsy photos of Smokers- lungs.

It-s ok to cry- You-ve been a victim of a multiBillion $$ marketing machine for some time now.
Good Luck- Your brain is even working against you as it feels the only solution for your withdrawal is more nicotine.
I have broken my 37 year, 1 pack a day habit, now for 2 years. I pray to God I never go back. I have quit a hundred times and hated myself each time I took that first hit again because I might as well go by a carton. I tried cold turkey, patches, self hypnosis, gum, and whatever else I could try. Its like it had control of me, I finally got the commit lozenges and that worked for me. I started at the 4 mg, then went to the 2 mg. I keep some nicotine gum around in case of emergencies. I can empathize with drug addicts to a degree, because it has been the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. I still dream of smoking........but I-m not going back. So start out with a group of friends that will pray for you, and stick to it. Don-t let it take you as long as it did for me. You can do it now and be free from the constant worry of....(wheres my cigarettes, my lighter, do I have enough cigarettes on and on) Quit Now and Live!!! Go to The Intercessors.com and post a prayer request, so people can be praying for you 24/7. You will need God-s help. The very best to you.
Yeaaaaa,keep up the good work!
Come up with a list of things to do. Everything you feel like you need a cigarette, do something on the list. Also keep lots of gum and hard candy on hand so that you can pop something in your mouth when you want a cigarette. The first two weeks is the hardest, so try your best to get through it. Have a support partner you can call if the craving gets too bad, and talk through the craving. And if you accidently slip up once, don-t give up, just keep going. Don-t let one or two mistakes bring you all the way down again.
good for you ! it gonna be tough.

after everyday of not smoking, give yourself a reward like .................(i dont know) .............a cigarette !
You could switch to chewing tobacco.
chew on celery, and depending on how long you have been with him if he doesn-t care about his health then why should you? Leave him for like a week to send a message that smoking is not ok. Drink a lot of water, and keep yourself busy, swimming and hiking. As long as you are busy then you won-t crave a cigarette.
F***ing niiice! You rock. Seriously, I-ve heard its really hard to quit, so much respect :)
get prescription meds.
you have to really hate it , most of it is mind over matter , get some sugar free hard candies and pop one when you get the urge , find things to occupy your mind . I-ve been smoke free for a long time and it is hard but if you put your mind to it you can beat it , good luck
just say I DONT NEED TO FU,KING DO IT KUZ ITS GONNA KILL ME...u know it will.........so please.....dont smoke u can do it........U CAN.....thank you
Its tough but you can do it. Do not have even one. 2 months and you will think less and less about it
How bad do you want it? (Isn-t that the real question?)
I quit smoking about 20 years ago after smoking for about 12 years (1-1/2 packs per day)I tried everything, patches, gum, nicotine filters you name it and I still smoked, it finally happened when I realised that I had to really want to give up deep down or it wasnt gonna happen, end of story. so I just made up my mind and stopped period, cold turkey, no aids or anything. There is an old saying -when the going gets tough................you know the rest! Its time to decide whether you are gonna spend the rest of your life as a victorious winner or a cowering cringing wimp.Only you know the answer to that.

How do you get rid of yellow tobacco stains off the fingers, while youre trying to quit smoking?it looks awful! -

Step1 Rub the nicotine stains on your fingers vigorously with half a lemon, allowing the juice to soak in for at least 10 minutes. Lemon is a natural astringent and absorbs deeply into the skin, cleansing without overdrying.

Step2 Use potatoes for nicotine stain removal. The simple act of peeling a dozen potatoes will quickly remove stains; however you can cut a potato in half and rub it into your skin, as you would with a lemon. Allow the juice to set for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing.

Step3 Dissolve an aspirin tablet in 1 cup of hot water and soak your fingers to remove those pesky stains from your skin. This aspirin and water method also works for removing nicotine stains from clothing and walls.

Step4 Remove difficult stains by rubbing the skin with a pumice stone after applying any of the above remedies. Pumice should only be used for the initial stain removal, as excessive use will cause damage to your skin and can build calluses. Once the major spots are gone, you can use the above methods for routine nicotine stain removal.

Step5 Keep your skin moisturized to create a barrier, preventing the nicotine from soaking deep into the layers of the skin. Applying Vitamin E oil to your hands daily will not only help your skin to remain healthy and beautiful, it will make it more difficult for nicotine to stain your fingers.
Try a whitening toothpaste - rub on hands and rinse

A paste of baking soda and water can also work .

Lemon does too.

A little bleach in water won-t hurt either

Peroxide is a whitener /bleach too.

* Use soap and water afterwards and a good skin conditioner

* Do not use a brillow pad as someone suggested . No sandpaper either -- you would be surprised at what some folks will do

No one method will immediately remedy the situation. It takes time .

Good Luck in your endeavor to quit smoking !
I did it ..10yrs now ..smoke free
You can-t. It will gradually disappear if you quit and the skin gradually sheds and replaces itself. Good luck with the quit.
use the white part of the lemon rind and rub that substance into the stained skin - then use a Brillo pad or pumice stone and the stain will scrub right off...dont foreget to moisturise the skin afterwards...good luck with quittiing

Whats th most effective way to quit smoking? -

Whats th most effective way to quit smoking? -

Do research about the negative effects that smoking has on your body. Once you find out how much it ages you, will cost you in medical expenses in the future, turns off most of the opposite sex, etc. it will help you realize how much you need to quit. Refer to that info when you feel like you need a puff.
cold turkey just put them away
Smoke a cheap menthol cigarette.

Ugh. Those are horrible. That-s what my friend did to quit. She-s been off cigarettes for six years now.

What worked for me: I just sat and smoked through as many cigarettes as I could in one sitting, until I threw up. Now, even just the smell of cigarettes makes me want to throw up.

My boss has had great success with using the new medication that they have come out with. He has been smoke free for over 3 months now and he has been off of the medication for over a month.
Self Control and Discipline and always think that smoking will ONLY cause BAD for your health and it will kill you slowly!!!!
Remember Take care of yourself not for your own but for people around you who-s love you and care for you.

-- Chew bubble gum than smoke!! =)
Kill yourself
I quit smoking one year and 23 days ago, but who-s counting?!

First, I asked my doctor about some medication. The quit smoking pills are rather expensive and insurance doesn-t cover them (which is a whole other can of worms for me!) There are other alternatives to those, though. The popular Zyban is the same exact thing as the nerve pill, Wellbutrin. My doctor was happy to prescribe this to me for depression, and what do you know, I quit smoking too! You take the pill for two weeks and set a quit date.

Some tips for you:

Write down every single reason you want to quit smoking. Even the little silly ones. Some of mine were obviously health reasons, expense, the offense, I was stinky, my teeth were yellow, my daughter started smoking sucker sticks and Cheetos, moral reasons. The list went on and on. Write down every single reason you can think of.

Write down what triggers you to smoke and how you will combat them. For example, I liked to smoke when I talked on the phone. Instead of smoking, I started doodling. I kept a pad and paper next to the phone and doodled. This only last for a few weeks before the habit was broken. After meals, I still to this day have a sweet to complete my meal instead of a cigarette. Having a cigarette first thing in the morning, I changed my entire morning routine. You will also probably want to change your routine for a lot of things, as most smokers actually smoke on a schedule. Riding in the car, this was a tough one. I actually quit smoking in the car before I actually quit, because I knew this one was going to be tough. I knew I could have a smoke at my destination, so it wasn-t so bad to not smoke in the car. Then I just sort of broke the habit. And I chew lots and lots of gum to help with the oral fixation - sugar free of course! Remember to write down anything that triggers you to smoke.

Reward yourself! Make a game of it! Tell your family and friends how important it is for you, and I-m sure they will join in on the festivities. Reward yourself for one week, two weeks, one month, then each month after that. I made a game of it for myself, to see how long I could go. Your rewards can be anything from a cheeseburger to a nice dinner out.

Remember, you can-t even take as much as one little puff of a cigarette as this will most certainly push you back into smoking. If you smoke a puff, you may as well smoke a cigarette, and if you smoke one, you may as well buy -just one- pack, and then it-s a domino effect after that!

Best of luck to you! I know if I can quit smoking, anybody can! It-s one of the hardest things I-ve ever done, but it-s also one of my proudest accomplishments!
first of all, congratulations on wanting to quit smoking. It is hard to do. I used Zyban (mild antidepressant) for 2 weeks then used the nicotine patch(that is when you actively don-t smoke) While you start the Zyban, you gradually go down on the nicotine--from full strength to lights etc. Within weeks of quitting, your taste buds will come back and your sense of smell is better. You may cough alot--just think of it as a cleansing out period. You may feel cranky, thats ok too. Take care and best wishes. Cathy
take a full pack o cigg-s and place all 20 into a half glass of water and let them sit in the glass a couple of hours (stir a couple of times also) when its been 2 hours filter out the paper, tobacco, and filters into another glass. and finally get the glass, hold your nose if you have too and drink the tobacco flavored water. i-ll guaranty you that after you will never smoke a cigg again after what you would go through.
Hello Janet,

My wife smoked for over 10 years and when she found out that she was pregnant with our now newborn 3 months old daughter, she had promised me that if I found a good solution for quitting, she will try her best to kick the habit.

Well in my spare time I started researching online for quit smoking programs, meanwhile she was trying out patches and gums that you can buy at grocery stores and adventually they would not work for her.

After about a week of researching I had stumbled over a website that really impressed me on what they had to offer and that they actually say that they can almost guarantee your success, and most importantly that you can try it out for free.

The company has been around for over 20 years now and they have helped over a million smokers quit since and their kit has everything that you possibly need to help you quit smoking, I thought WoW that is impressive.

I went ahead and ordered the free trial for my wife (only paid for shipping) and she has quit smoking in just two weeks and she doesn-t want to hear about or smell another cigarette again in her life :)

Now it is up to you, but since my wife has quit, I was so happy about her success, so much so that I had built a small review site of the product to also help other people quit, you can check it out at;
http://endthehabitnow.com
if you want to find out more.

P.S. Also available for Canada.

Thanks for reading my short story, I hope it helps, good luck and stay healthy.

Whats a good way to quit smoking weed? -

i hasve no will power and i got a drug test at court ,sumone help me! is there a product or anything i can take now and flush out my system?
nevr start
all i can say is drink lots of water and dont smoke no more.
i smoke weed too.. so you can either quit, but reefer can be traced in your system for like a month.
drink a glass of vinegar. its nasty, but its the ebst home remedy when you need a piss test.
hope it helps man
Just quit. It-s not addictive. You need to make a change in your daily routine. Find something else to do with your time, stay busy. Get someone else to hold your money. And if you-re getting it from someone else keep them away.

Trouble is traces remain in your system for quite some time.
Even if you manage to pass a piss test (it-s possible but meh its 50/50) they can still hair test if they feel like it. And hair testing is very hard to hide (no shaving it will not work, or bleaching it w/e.) To flush out your system w/ a piss test you basiclly need to drink lots of liquids (not too dilluted though or they-ll know and make you re-piss) Visit. www.grasscity.com forums and their-s some good tricks there.

And about quiting, it-s not hard, it-s not an addicting substance, it-s like giving up pop, or chips, just find something else. (I found shrooms =)

after 10 years of smoking cigarrate i quit 2 weeks ago lately i am felling restlessness, anxiety, having a vormitting feeling, have loose motions are these aftereffects of quitting
Yes, it will probably take a few weeks for those symptoms to subside ( of course you may want to check with your doctor, you never know). Then it becomes a huge mental game. I quit almost two years ago and there are still times when I want to reach for one. Good Luck
you are having withdrawal symptoms. They will go away soon.
smoke sometimes easy as that...

Look at smoking as a highly addictive entity that aim to ruin your health and cost you a fortune over your shortened life if you do not quit. So do not wait to you get emphysema, wrinkled skin yellow fingers and possibly lung cancer in return for spending thousands of dollars trying initially to look cool, an image the tobacco companies try to create.
So what to do, just tale your last cigarettes and soak them under the tap, give the smokes or what is left of them a squeeze and you will see the toxic gunk they contain ooze out. then dispose of the mess in the trash and wow never to take a single puff on a cigarette again ever. You must also if you feel desperate put a time like two minutes between having a puff and the present time, but that is in relation to whatever time it happen to be, so if you wait a minute there is still two minutes to go, always.
Then avoid - friends- who see it as their duty to undermine your resolve, and keep busy and think of something else if the thought of smoking enter your mind.
It may not be the easiest way to give up, but it work.
The best way to quit smoking is to stop hanging out with your friends you do smoke together, thereafter ask yourself what do you really derive from such act. And,if you need permanent solution to this bad habit i inmploy you to always visit this blog: http://stopsmokingmagazine.blogspot.com
You can only stop smoking with your will power..!!! Control yourself. Never smoke for any reason. Not a single puff. Try avoiding Smokers Company. Change your mind or delay while you feel a need. It’s difficult in the beginning but after a few months you will get used to and will think that you have got the control. That will be a dangerous period because you may think of smoking for once or occasionally. Trust me if you smoke again even for a single time you will get into smoking more severely this time.

All other ways are just wastage of time and money.
Honestly, it-s different for every smoker.

I think the most effective way would be a combination of a few things

1) Slowly start decreasing the amount you smoke over a period of time.
2) Keep yourself occupied. Many people find chewing gum helps. When you get the urge to smoke, find some gum nearby and pop it into your mouth.
3)Think about the reasons you smoke. Habit? Stress? If its stress, you need to somehow find another way to relieve that stress.
4)Surround yourself with a supportive environment.Nothing-s worse than trying to quit, but being around friends who always want you to smoke with them. Nothing-ll get accomplished that way.

Good luck!!!
Well a lot of people are quitting with e cigarettes, its basically a cigarette without fire and all the other harmful stuff. My father is using one and he likes it and it can slowly get you off smoking by lowering the nicotine in the e cigarette cartridges. Hope this helped
Dont Be Around cigarettes Or People who Smoke Throw All Your cigarettes Away Dont By New Ones Or Be Around Them And useful stop smoking aids such as nicotine nasal sprays, nicotine lozenges, nicotine inhalers, nicotine patches, nicotine gum and stop smoking pills.
i bought e-cigarettes and they have really helped me. its also cool to -smoke- em anywhere
