Im a student in police foundations and Im trying to quit smoking ? -

I used to smoke half a pack a day two days ago and i just got into a fight with my boyfriend and i smoked one rite now. I feel like im a failure...I was so proud of myself for going 2 days....and now i have to start all over again. Will the cravings be way stronger than they were after the first day becuz of that one ciggarette?
Chellebelle, the problem with us smokers is that after we quit, (as said before it takes about 3 days), when the next stressor comes in any period of our lives untill we die, we will have the urge to take a cig a smoke it...

That is what this whole cigarette smoking and quitting is about, it takes much more than just not smoking for some time....

It haunts us for the rest of our life. It takes a lot of courage not to take this * thing and put it in our mouth ever again.
Have you ever use stop smoking herbs to quit smoking?

I’ve been searching for some time for a list of stop smoking aids, and the pros and cons of using stop smoking herb which can quit smoking naturally. I’ve also noticed that many members of this forum have been asking the same question.

So, I’ve put my findings in a reviews which is free for you to visit at
http://stopsmokingherbs.org

in all reality it takes 3 days for the nicotine to get out of your system so when you make it pass that 72 hour period its all in your head good luck with it the cold turkey quiting seems to work the best for everyone that i know that has quit....

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

I have smoked since I was like 13, I-m 23 now and I-ve got to the point to where I feel it is just nasty. I can-t stand the smell.(I never could) I hate it that my hands stink. I hate my breath, and I-m slowly killing myself doing it anyway. I live in a house with 3 other people and all of them smoke. Would moving be a good idea? Then try to quit for real or to stop now and go insane with all of the cigarettes in the house and nothing to smoke.
I quit using the patch, and it was fantastic and so easy. I had 2 modifications to the program:

1: When I was wearing the patch, if I still craved a cigarette, I reached for the patch and rubbed it. This might have released more nicotine at that moment, or might have just psychologically helped and kept my hands busy -- I-m not sure.

2: For at least 6 months after getting off the patch, I kept spare packages of lowest dose patch in my purse. If I ever felt like falling off the wagon (say, a trigger being in a bar with smoking friends while we were all drinking) I would apply a patch instead. I didn-t hold myself to having to be off the patch. Eventually, I went months without using one of the spares -- and that was that (4 years ago!)

Whether you should move: I wouldn-t just yet -- you don-t know if you can quit, and to move might be a decision you regret. See if you can keep up with the patch for a little bit. If your roomates are smoking and you want one, try the patch rubbing trick. Once you-ve gone without smoking for a while, then you won-t be able to stand your roomates smoking, even if you-re still on the patch. Then you can make the big move.

Good luck. I-ve given this same advice to 3 friends, and they all quit successfully. The -carry a spare patch after you-re done with the patch program- tip really makes the big difference in not getting back to smoking.

Which way is the best way to quit smoking Marijuana without rehab? -

I desperately need help. I dont want to do it no more, and I cant seem to stop this stuff.. Im asking this because I dont want to move onto another drug.
get some new friends?get rid of everything you have to do with it i quit 13 years ago
You just have to put it down. I quit for a while. All I did was stop buying and I asked all my friends not to smoke around me. It was actually very easy. Marijuana is not addictive. You may think it is but it-s all mental. You should also find a support, a friend that will encourage you. One of my friends was constantly telling me how proud she was when I quit.

But I don-t see why you think you might move on to another drug. I know pot is considered a gateway drug but all you have to do is say no. I smoke pot every day but I don-t do any thing else. Why should I? People don-t realize how mental drugs are. You have to gain control with your mind before you can gain control with your body. Just use your head and you will be fine.
Try acupuncture. I tried it for cigarette smoking. The acupuncturist used special tiny needle -tacks- that were attached to very small flesh colored bandage squares. She put 3 on various spots of each ear. I kept them in for a week and went from 10 smokes a day to 3. I had no real cravings for cigarettes during that week. Just smoked the little bit I did because I wasn-t ready to give up my cigarette and coffee in the morning! I was supposed to go back to the acupuncturist once a week for about a month, but I didn-t want to quit badly enough and stopped my treatment. It-s certainly worth a try for marijuana though. It doesn-t hurt and the needles in the ears are very discreet.
It is very hard to do but with your goal in mind and knowing it has been done helps. I have quit numerous times, one being now clean for 10 days. Not having the money is usually the big factor. Passing drug tests to get a job or keep one is another. The physical addiction will pass in 3 to 5 days. It will be very hard. Keeping busy helps. trying not to think about it, or when you do you can drink or eat or exercise. you can always shed pounds later. Keep yourself away from freinds or family who do it during these days. when those days are past it is all mental. You have to know in your heart that you really want to quit otherwise this is all useless info. Do not do it because your spouse tells you to or because it is illegal or some other reason, you have to want to quit for yourself. after you spend so much time being high, sober kinda feels real good. You get out of the hase in 3 to 5 days. I wish you the best of luck, I will check back to see if you update if you have anymore trouble.
My advice to you is to stop hanging with the people that do smoke and start going to church and meet new people thar are drug free. I know that pot is everywhere and people that go to church might even smoke it, but if you really want to quit then you just have to make that decision and stay away from it all together. I for one just quit smoking cigerettes 2 weeks ago... It was hard and still is a little bit, but each and everyday gets better just like it will for you... Good luck and God bless.
keep yourself very busy, tire yourself out during the day. but keep busy!!!!!
Marijuana has no addictive qualities outside of the social pressure. Do the same thing alcoholics do. Don-t hang out in places where you smoked, and try to avoid people/situations in which you did. Fill your life with positive things, whatever makes you happy.

On a side note, if marijuana is used responsible, it will not lead you on to other drugs. But since you do feel yourself slipping down that road I applaud your desire to stop it before it starts.
First of all, good on you for wanting to quit, secondly research the mental health effects of grass, visit a mental health ward and speak to some of the patients who suffer from cannabis psychosis, schizophrenia, paranoia and delusions, then ask yourself is this where I want to end up,
Good Luck
I hate to tell you but, if you are having that difficult of a time, you aren-t smoking just weed... You are sprinkling crack or something on it. This is funny reading questions from idiots like you. I CAN-T STOP!!!! Give me a fuc-%$# break! It-s not hard, just stop.

Urgent Help Needed. I am searching for a Anti-Nicotine chemicals or substance for Quit Smoking? -

I want to know about anti-nicotine chemicals or medicine to cure myself to quit smoking. Due to habit of smoking. I have tried so many time to quit, but can-t succeed. I have tried all the options like alternate of smoking by chewing gum, chocolates, controlling myself on craving, thinking about something else. But nothing could be worked, So finally I am searching for Anti-Nicotine substance to take out a nicotine from my body and blood. Please Help. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Please Give me a solution. Thanks in Advance.
nicotene replacement is available without prescription in the form of patches, gums and lozenges. You can get prescription for inhaled or nasal spray nicotene as well. these are all helpful. Other medicines used are called zyban/wellbutrin or chantix. chantix is new so may not be available all over the world and has poor insurance coverage in the avaiability areas. you will benefit from discussing this all with a doctor, good luck

If you have finally quit smoking, when will you likewise give up unhealthy meat products that will give you? -

all manner of diseases and make you fat, even obese? A large health food store now has products that taste like meat, feel like meat in the mouth, but have all the healthy benefits of vegetables and rarely make you fatter than you should be.
For more info -
http://factoryfarming.org/

Was that a question?
Soy increases estrogen in the body.
Soy has a piss poor amino acid chain compared to the near-perfect profiles of meats.
Soy farming contributes to 1/3rd of all pesticides used.
Soy has more fat per gram of protein than lean pork, red meat or chicken.

Meat-s amino acid chains are necessary in the development of proper nerve function.
The protein in meat has an unbeatable quality of amino acids.
Vegetables have far overplayed benefits, when in reality you have to eat pounds of them each day to near rival the amount found in a single multivitamin pill.
Meat is high in iron, zinc, magnesium, and many other vitamins necessary for bone health, and PROPER SEXUAL FUNCTION.

We-re meant to eat animals. 6 different amino acids REQUIRED FOR HUMAN BRAIN DEVELOPMENT are found ONLY IN ANIMAL PRODUCTS.
Humans have been eating animals since the dawn of time. Soy has scarcely been more than a weed until the late 1960-s.
The human body is not adapted to run on JUNK PROTEIN.

I think that there are many improvements to be made in meat and poultry production, however I think that your soymongering contributes only to your own dogma.
Since I started to work out I was looking for a good weight loss product. I was on a diet but I felt that I needed a little -help- so I decided to try this great product and I had fantastic results. You can check their website at
http://www.weigh-less-feel-great.us , they give you a free trial and you only pay $6.95 shipping and handling.
Hmmm, meat is good for you.

I have many life changing things I want to do. I need to quit smoking, loose 50 lbs, and quit taking Effexor? -

I have several things I need to do and am not sure which order or the best way to do it. I need to do the following
Loose 50 lbs
Quit smoking
Quit taking Effexor.
I am not sure in which order I should do this. I KNOW quiting Effexor will be a long process. I have done this before and it took months. (Like 6)
For quiting smoking, I will be doing it cold turkey. I will not be using any of the quit smoking aids. (for financial reasons)
Does anyone have any advice for me as to the order I should work on this.
Thanks so much!!
go for losing weight first of all, maybe being a fitness fanatic will help you quit one of the other two, whatever you do, make sure you take medical advice first and do it safely
best of luck xxxx
quit smokin- that will help u lose 5olbs. and wtf is effexor?
I hope you aren-t going for all three at once!!

I-d put the Effexor last.

First I-d go with smoking as it has such devastating effects on your health and skin. To get over the craze, take up some physical activity (other than eating or alcohol). Try walking, go to the mall, walk the dog, walk around the park, and when at home, knit, do something with your hands.....stay on the computer.

With increased physical activity you are already working on #2, the weight. Cut out all white things...bread, sugar, wheat, white rice and see how it goes. Might be a good way to ease into a weight reduction program.

Once you-ve kicked smoking and your weight starts coming off, I-m willing to bet the need for Effexor will diminish. Physical exercise releases endorphins which will make you feel better, blows out the cobwebs in your brain so you think better too.

Good luck!
I have never smoked and hate the smell especially now that I have leukemia, no body smokes in my truck or house.
I would quit smoking 1st, then start a change in what you eat, drink lots of water and walk like there is no tomorrow. Diet sodas are not really that low in calories, try to cut out all sugars and starches, don-t eat after 6:00 in the evening, eat a good breakfast, cut out red meat. When you drink water with a meal it helps you food digest better. Good luck?
I would say that you should quit smoking first. Before you do it, get a good vitamin B complex and take it for two weeks. That will help your body to go through the withdrawl and destress you. If you find a B complex specific for stress then that-s even better.
I-m also including a link for some helpful hints on ways to quit naturally.
I-m proud of you for all of it....I smoke and drink -- me, bad person, huh??? NOT!! Anyway, DO NOT go off the Effoxor first -- stay on it...it may help you through all of it. I lost 70 lbs. by weight watchers (not going to meetings -- just recipes that were great) -- hanng in there.....if you need any other help, you may email me but I have not gotten to the point of no smokes or beer (and I lost weight with both in my life -- safely) --
I-d go with quitting smoking first. Once you-re comfortable, get off the Efexor. I was taking quite a high dose and it only took me a couple of months to get off. The side effects sucked, but I was done pretty quick. Then start going to the gym, etc. Actually, you could do the weight loss and Efexor at the same time b/c it might boost your want to go to the gym. Good luck.
Weight and smoking at the same time. A good way to help you with the smoking is to ask an oncologist to show you a MRI that shows how cancer spreads through the body. I saw tumors throughout my best friend-s body. I thought -Idiot! That is what could happen to you because you smoke! I walked out of the hospital, threw away my cigarettes and have not smoked since! It did not hurt that when I went to my car I walked by the designated smoking area and I saw people smoking through holes in their throat! If that is not enough to make you quit, how about watching my friend who was only 40 die from lung cancer?

Just make sure you quit so you are not the inspiration for someone to quit. My friend just thought he had a smokers cough. For a while you will have to change your habits. Throw away all smoking accessories. Do not allow smoking in your home or car.

For the weight, try eating small amounts 6 times a day. (One time may be an orange) Make sure you find an exercise that you enjoy. Start with walking and swimming they are low impact and you can increase time and length of walks and swims.

Buy an outfit that you LOVE (Or a Bikini) (With the money you save from not buying cigarettes!) but buy it two sizes too small. Put a hook on the wall and hang it as close to the refrigerator as you can. This is a great incentive.

never shop when you are hungry! Some people like to have support of others so they join weight watchers or Nutra-System. They portion the meals for you. And you can chat with others who are going through the same thing you are.

Also promise yourself you will buy yourself something you really want (Like an I-Pod or diamond earrings after you quit and lose weight for an entire year. If you smoke 1 pack a day at $3.00 a pack, you would save $1,095.00 in just one year! If you smoke more than that you could take a cruise! So you can see you will easily save enough money to give yourself a reward.

I do not know about the drug you take.

Good Luck!

PS you will be shocked at how much better your food tastes, and how much better you smell (No Offense)!
I would not quit Effexor unless the doctor said your depression is better. By trying to establish better eating habits and weaning yourself from the addiction to nicotine, your setting your body up to scream at you anyway. Effexor will establish a more level playing field, and lastly, you can then wean yourself off of them.
Nicotine is the hardest; it is similar to cocaine, grabs you quickly and won-t let go. When you try to quit, the brain has been told you will supply it with a drug, so it starts rebelling. If you don-t use a patch, you must make a list of what to do when you want/use a cigarette, and do that instead. Call a friend, take a walk, anything to get the focus off of -I need a smoke.- Remember, it truly is an addiction, so don-t beat yourself up over having a hard time quitting. Just do it, and you can even use a 12 step program...substituting the word nicotine for alcohol, etc. Surround yourself with people and things to do. If you smoke while drinking coffee, find something else to do with your mouth and hands at that time. Change rooms, tables, etc. If you have a smoke after sex, what else can you do instead? Cuddle a few minutes longer? You can see what I-m saying. Don-t just quit...plan how to quit. the patch would be best, but you CAN do it without the patch, it is just harder.
As to diet, think -a new way of eating.- Don-t do fads, and dont try to do it too fast. Have snacks, healthy ones, found on the web. Use these in place of cigarettes, also. You may gain a few pounds when you stop smoking, but don-t give up. You will lose those pounds after awhile. They didn-t come on overnight and they won-t drop off overnight. Patience is the key to everything you want to do, but hey, what better time to start then today! At 50, you can be hooked on cigarettes, overweight ready for a heart attack, or healthy..just by doing it one day at a time. And if you slip, tomorrow is a new day. Be good to yourself and you will win!!! Success
Luckily I never had to deal with quitting smoking and effexor. I have heard that quitting smoking can add weight, so I would conquer the smoking first and maybe next the effexor and then the weight.

Anyways the real reason I answered was to wish you the best of luck, with your challenge. Say motivated and you can do it !!
I don-t know what Effexor is... some sort of drug ? anyway I am trying to do the very same thing you want to do except for Effexor.. I tried to give up smoking and lose weight at the same time... BIG MISTAKE ! very very hard .. so I decided to give up the smoking first now I-m working on the weight. I find when you stop smoking you put on weight because you replace the smokes with food ... so keep that in mind .
well, i don-t know what effexor is, but DEFINITELY quit smoking first. quitting smoking can be associated with weight gain, so if you lose weight THEN quit smoking, you-ll be backpeddling. so quit smoking, then lose weight. good luck!

Im trying to quit smoking 4 days in and im a ball of anxiety, and cant calm down. What can i do? -

Go outside slowly inhale and exhale 8 times then drink a glass of water. Water is good it flushes the nicotine from the body. Congratulations on getting this far you-re doing good.
Nicotine leaves your system in 3 days, so if you have not had a cigarette in over 72 hours then your anxiety is more than likely from mentally wanting to continue the physical habit of smoking-which is good, because the hardest part is over.

Reminding yourself that your mind is messing with you and finding interesting things to keep busy should get your through

I smoked for 25 years before quitting and can tell you that you will continue to get fleeting urges to light up for well over a year or so-although the urges will get farther and farther apart-sometimes months will go without it happening.

1. Grab your walkman/ipod and go for a walk with some upbeat music and relish the deep clean breaths that you can take
2. Go take pictures of something funny to email to a friend
3. Go give your self a makeover/pedicure/manicure while thinking
about how special that you are and how good you smell now that your perfume is not fighting with the smell of cigarettes
4. Think of that gorgeous guy that you are going to meet soon-who absolutely cannot stand the smell of cigarettes
5. Add up the money that you will save each week by not smoking and see what you could buy in 1 year if you had all of that money

The bottom line is think of some activity that you like-and go do it. Do it over and over each time you think of a cig

Best of Luck and Hang in there
It-s worth it in so many ways

I am on day one here and it isn-t too bad because I am using the nicotine patch. I have already dealt with some anxiety but I just started doing some of my coursework for the week and it subsided. I have quit before but last time went about 2 1/2 months before returning due to a night of heavy drinking and being around a friend who smokes. The temptation became too much and I gave in. However, this time I am aimed at staying away from drinking for a long, long, time since I know that it is a trigger.

That would be the first thing that I would recommend is staying away and avoiding triggers that may cause you to want to smoke more.

Being around those who smoke (ask them not to smoke around you at all if you go around and if they don-t say away from them).

Avoid caffeine and alcohol

Chew gum

Try nicotine replacement therapy like the patch or gum (some argue that they are expensive but when you think about it is most likely cheaper then your cigarette habit)

Talk to your doctor about your options - they may put you on Chantix, which I have heard good things from.

Exercise - This gets the anxiety out (the last time I quit I did almost two hours a day...yeah I overdid but it helped me get out the anxiety and gave me something to do then worry about not smoking) I actually lost weight whereas most people gain because they replace their habit with food.

Drink lots of water because it will help keep you healthy and going and will help flush out all of the nasty toxins.

Before bed drink some calming tea like chamomile or sleepytime. Or if you experience problems sleeping take a herbal supplement like valerian root or melatonin to help you get your z-s

Research quitting and join a support group. I remember the last time that I quit (and even today since I found this question) I researched people-s experiences, found forums and talked about my exp and read others which helped me keep hope and know there were others out there taking on this life-changing challenge

Do any activity that you like (so long as it-s not a trigger) to keep your mind off of smoking

Talk to friends and family for support

and most importantly remember it might seem like hell now, but it WILL get better...

Good luck to you and I hope you find some peace of mind and keep going with your choice to quit smoking...Take care :)
Nicotine is a useful drug, it helps concentrate our attention, so allows us to focus in times of stress, and is very useful for people trying to work hard. It is common for people with mental illness or people in stressful situations to desire a smoke.

Sooo....you need to find other ways to deal with this.

Try exercising, it is a great way to calm down....for example go for a long walk, or if you are more fit, try running.

Distract yourself, play computer games, watch exciting movies and so on.

Try getting nicotine from other sources such as patches or gum.

Also, remember that in the end this will pass.

Congratulations! What a great decision!
This is the last really, really, really hard day for most. From here on out, it will slowly get easier and easier.
Some hints:
Get something to chew on and gesture with, like toothpicks or
cinnamon sticks.
Excercise to let off steam, or just take long walks.
Don-t drink for the next month or two
When you are really antsy, mad or crave-y, make a little O with your
lips and breath deeeply in and slowly way out. Do this 5-10 times.
If you know someone who still smokes, get a wide-mouth jar with a
lid, put in about an inch or two of water, and have them put their
butts in it. Keep it around and take a few deep whiffs several times
a day.
Start thinking of yourself as -someone who doesn-t smoke-
Every day you don-t smoke is a bit longer (and more comfortable) life for you! I-m pulling for ya.
Best wishes for your good health.
3-5 days in means you-re at the worst point, it should start getting better soon. Try sucking on some sugarless candy, or chewing on something -- exercise can help -- they also say deep breaths, though I-ve never noticed any difference. And try to avoid anything that might upset you.
Kudos to you for trying to quit.

Try chewing gum, nicotine or regular.
You can also try using a nicotine patch.
Talk to your doctor for other advice.

Good luck!

It-s all in your head, don-t let your body control you, breathing is also good.

It-s all in your head.
Sleep as much as you can. Helped me.

Whats a sure fire way to quit smoking..understand, I have to, dont want to.? -

Joanna, I understand. I had to, I didn-t want to. Someone asked me the other day if I won the lottery would I go back to smoking? I said, Yes, because then I could afford the iron lung. Get rid of all smokes except a few and put them way up top in a cabinet. Write down all the reasons you have to quit. Write down your triggers. Where and when you liked to smoke the most, on the phone, after dinner - and plan for a substitute. I sucked on those little straws you get with your coffee? I had them by the phone. I got candy canes, they work really well. And I planned to be busy for a week. It is so very hard but if you have to, you have to. YOu have my thoughts of support heading your way.
3 simple steps

1 don-t buy fags

2 don-t put one in you mouth

3 DO NOT LIGHT IT
Start by making a face when you see them or think about them. Seriously. Make a face like you just smelt or looked at poo. Besides, people who smoke cigarettes smell awful. I used to smoke a pack of Marlboro Reds a day. Just start focusing on the negatives of smoking.

The most addicting element of smoking is the ritual of deep inhaling and exhaling. The cigarette does not truly calm down the user, it elevates the heartrate actually physically exciting the user. The user identifies -relaxing- with having a cigarette, and is actually doing a focused relaxation exercise when they take the time to smoke. Unfortunately it-s with carcinogenic smoke and not clean fresh air.

Kudos on quitting, even though you don-t want to.

Good luck
i know exactly how you feel, at least in part, because i-m supposed to quit drinking Pepsi and i flat out do not want to! it-s as simple as that. i have dental issues without the Pepsi, so i know the sugar sure isn-t helping me any... but i LOVE Pepsi! it-s SO good! i want one all the time! i want one right now, and it-s not even 9am! sheesh, i-m addicted! i even dream about drinking Pepsi, it-s really gotten out of hand! ; )

i-m not comparing drinking Pepsi to smoking cigarettes. cigarettes are obviously much worse for you. i know Pepsi will never kill me, at least not directly. i guess there-s always a chance i could get health issues based on all the sugar i get from drinking it, but Pepsi isn-t my only sugar intake, so something else could just as easily cause a sugar-related illness as the 12-24 oz. of Pepsi i drink a day. but i also know it-d make me and especially my teeth much healthier not to drink it.

i agree, you pretty much have to want to quit in order to succeed at it, i would think. i-ve never tried to quit smoking -cause i never started. my Mom-s been smoking for 30 years. she-s tried to quit a couple of times, but it never stuck. luckily, she only smokes outside. if you don-t already do so, only allow yourself to smoke outside. and if you live where it-s really cold, that might make you go out less. if you smoke a pack a day, try to only smoke 10-12 cigarettes for a few days and then try to get down from there. try simple things like that rather than just trying to go cold turkey. it would be better to just STOP, but if you really don-t want to, you-ll probably pick it back up again. at least if you cut down, that-ll show you that you CAN do it, know what i mean?

i definitely wish you luck in quitting! let us know when you do! : )

edit: wow i didn-t realized i typed that much... ; )
mark twain said: Its easy to quit smoking i have done it a 1000 times.

Control your will. Once quit - dont go back ever. Thats the key.

I had been smoking since the age of 12. I quit at the age of 25 and never went back ever since. Its been 3 years. I dont even get the urge anymore , nor was it difficult to quit.
I can tell you how i did it:

december 31st 23.50H last cigarette

january 1st no more cigarettes

As with any addiction, their is no sure fire way.

I have heard the most successful way is the -patch- combined with Wellbutrin.

But, from what I know, personally, it mostly depends on your desire to quit outweighing your desire to smoke. Plain and simple but hard.
Obviously there is no sure fire way to quit smoking but if you think you can i am sure you can. Make up your mind and never look back again i am 100% sure you will succeed.
Were you told by your doctor you had to? Need more details buddy. But don-t know, never have smoked, but have tried a puff and just not a smoker user, just coughed from it. Hate it. I think it takes a huge amount of wanting to quit and telling yourself you want to quit, then your mind starts believing it. But your body craves the nicotine, just remember, your mind is 90% stronger than your body always. It takes discipline.
There is no sure fire way to quit smoking. There is no magic pill, patch, hypnosis, or any of that. Quitting smoking will be a full time job for the first month. I smoked for 35 years and one day I just decided to quit. I went on the patches for 10 weeks and struggled the whole time. it-s been 10 months and I won-t go back to smoking but the urge NEVER goes away.

Not being cruel, but until you make up your mind to quit, then you-re pretty much doomed before you start.
Alan carrs Book - how to give up smoking the easy way (I think that is the name of it)
Whatever its called it worked for my ex hubby. he was a serious seriously heavy smoker (up to 70 ciggies a day) and when he decided he was going to quit he read the book, which he WOULDNT previously, but once he made up his mind he was going to put the cigs down, he really did it. He has NEVER relapsed, much to his credit.
It-s f***ing hard...
I used to have a plastic cigarette that worked wonders for me. It got me through the serious cravings, after dinner, first thing in the morning, when I was in the car.
It-s all about breaking habits.
However, if you don-t want to give up, you-re going to have trouble... Yiou-ve got to want to give up to succeed.
i gave up, sold my old car bnought a new one and said I-d never smoke in it. With my trusty plastic cigarette I did fine.
Sadly, I lost it and am back on them again! And I can-t find another plastic cigarette...
Will power plus every thing else you can find .....Good luck - Shine on............!

How hard is it to quit smoking? -

Just wondering. And if you DID successfully stop, how did you do it?
I smoked for about ten years and stopped cold-turkey one day many years ago. At the time of quitting I was up to two packs a day and I just got fed up of it and threw away the balance of cigarettes. I never have cravings even when around smokers and have not smoked for many years. I know it is almost impossible for some people to quit but that is how I did it.
quiting smoking is mostly in your mind. All of those stop smoking aids to help you quit do not work and are produced by the tobacco companies to gain extra money from people who are going to potentially start smoking again anyway. There are steps you need to take to actually quit.

1. You need to actually want to quit, if its not in your mind you will not accomplish anything
2. Take 5 cigarettes and smoke 2 the first day, 1 the second, 1 the third, save the last one as a reminder that you have the power not to smoke this cigarette. the reason for the 2nd step is to help you through the physical withdraw that goes along with smoking.
3. if the craving becomes overwhelming do not smoke that last cigarette either chew some gum or brush your teeth. most people when they have a craving just want that oral fixation so chewing gum and brushing your teeth help.
4 If you see someone smoking walk away, looking at them is just going to make you think that you need a cigarette, so walk away and throw a piece of gum in your mouth.

When you think of smoking just try to do something active to take you mind off of it.

follow these steps and in a few weeks you will start feeling better, breathing better, be more alert and you will wish you have never started smoking in the first place
I stopped smoking from one day to another. Im going to the gym and I really want to gain weight, if I continued smoking it would have taken me longer to gain weight, so I just stopped and I havent smoked for 2 months. Whenever I feel like smoking I just ask myself if I will get anything good from smoking a cigarrette, obviously the answer is that I will get nothing good so I just dont smoke it. Its not hard at all if you have a little control over yourself
It-s really hard, definitely. I quit after several years, cold turkey. I had really bad headaches for a while, but I-d have to say that the worst part about quitting is finding a new routine without cigarettes.
I quit in August, successfully, and I did it with DumDums... you know, the small lollipops you can get in huge bags at Walgreens and such? Suck on one whenever you get a craving or a headache. Low calorie, too, so you don-t have to worry about packing on a few extra pounds!
Also, someone to help support you is always great. I tell my friends who quit that they can always call me when they want a smoke and we-ll go out to a movie or something to take their mind off of it :)
Not too hard if you-re an occasional smoker. Don-t let your friends smoke next to you because that makes it harder. After a couple of weeks, the cravings go away except when you-re drinking. After about two months I no longer had any desire to smoke. Not only that, if you DO break down and have a cigarette, you wont feel good afterword.

You can also try smoking a longer cigarette because you may feel nausea when you finish it and then you won-t have any desire anymore for one. That-s what happened to me. Helped a lot.
It-s really freakin hard to quit smokin I been smoking for 6 years now and I got a really bad sickness cause of it but I still can-t stop it..

But I got a few solution for my self I dont know if it-ll work for you as well... The nicotine patches won-t work on me but it might work for you-ll...

Here it is...
I got a few inspiration of my own for I to quit.. Like my dad who was smoking all his life quit so I could quit with him cause his afraid of losing me cause of the sickness that I got... My girlfriend who I can-t aford to loose and of course my friend who I always with stop smoking for a new year resolution so I force my self to stop smoking...

Goodluck

Inspiration and self dicipline... At is all it take for me to quit
They say it-s as hard or harder than quitting other addictions ie. alcohol, heroine, etc... I quit twice cold turkey and started again years later both times. It was hard but not unobtainable through pure willpower. This time I quit over a year and half ago using the prescribed drug Chantix, for me it was easy especially in comparison to will power. I have no desire to smoke again, I have finally quit for life.
I have heard of people trying hypnotizism. My neighbor did it with a doctor or something and she hasnt even thought of smoking since, and it-s been more than 5 years. But if you dont do that, its going to be really hard because your body is addicted to niciteen.(sorry i dont know how to spell it...) When you take the niciteen (sorry again), your body is just going to want more. I would suggest getting hynatized or talk to your doctor about it.
It-s harder than anyone could imagine. For example, take any usual habit YOU have, per say. Like nail biting, or any compulsive behavior. It gets to you as an addiction, and it-s nearly impossible to stop. Sorry for the hyperbole, but that-s almost it. If you are thinking of getting into smoking, and that-s why you asked this question, I suggest you don-t. If you have any questions, email me.
well im not a smoker but my husband hasnt smoked for 4 days but i dont know how itll go from there he usually keeps smoking after that and gives in but he got a scare and thats why he wants to quit he had been short of breathe lately and his back side was hurting him alot and i guess that gave him a little wake up call to try and quit smoking its five days today but hes trying very hard to stop
Very hard.
I had bronchitis and the flu for 12 days in 2004, and I physically couldn-t smoke.

After I was better, it was a pure mind game. I convinced myself that if I could quit for 12 days, then I could quit for that day.
After about 3 months, I no longer had any urges.

An important part of quitting is making sure you do not surround yourself with other people that smoke.
simple, i just stopped one day and really it is not that freakin hard to quit. i have been smoking for what 7or 8 years and it is really simple to do so.
find a goal or a reason to quit, i use my girlfriend as a reason to quit. i mean even though she has no problem with me smoking but still i don-t want the guilt on my mind every time a take a drag.
ohw lord i tried to quit so many times. The first time i did it was when i got pregnant with my son. And then after giving birth and another 2 months later my sister came and visit and i started again just because she smoked so much and it smelled so good (i quit for 10 months) now i am pregnant again and i quit again, apparently that is the only reason for me i can quit because i am not just doing it for me.

If you do start you need to get past the first 3 days to get the nicotine out of your system after that its just trying to break a habbit
Not as hard as you think! Honest!

I gave up twice - first time I read a motivational book -Alan Carr-s easy way to give up smoking- He promised that the withdrawal would be no more than the symptoms of a cold - he was right - and it wasn-t difficult. (BTW - other people I know who have read the book, or watched the video gave up easily, too).

Gave up for about 8 months and I then made the stupid mistake of envying friends who were social smokers and could just have one or two cigarettes, every now and again.

Big mistake - I was immediately hooked again for another 6 years or so. (I-ve heard it said that nicotine is more addictive than heroin).

Second time I had seen the effects of nicotine on a rabbit, in an old black and white USA Navy film, on TV, and realised that I had to give up for my health. This time it was with the help of nicotine chewing gum and willpower.

I got there - and have been smoke-free for over 8 years. It-s so good not to have to worry if I have enough cigarettes to last me until I can get to the store - or needing to get out of meetings, theatre, etc., to have a cigarette - they ruled my life - now I have control.

Good Luck - it-s honestly worth the effort.
I thought to myself. If the Dr told me today that if i smoke another cigarette i would die, would i smoke one. Of course not. So just think every morning when you wake up, if i smoke another one, i will die. Then you will quit. I smoked for 12 years by the way, and quit overnight.

I also have a father that smoked his entire life and has lung disease, so that is something else that made me quit. Just Do it, think of the money you will save, and what better health you will be in.

If you had a brand new car you would look after it, put all the correct fluids in, get oil changes. How much more your own body.
i have never smoked in my life
but

how to stop
think about who you are doing it for

yourself
you want to live
you dont want to die of cancer
think about all the disgusting items they put in it
(if your not married or if you are think about how it can cause ur family problems)

My teachers husband smoked she never smoked but she was the one who died becauuse of passive smoking
HARDER than you think. i used to smoke, but i managed to quit. it was way harder than i thought. especially if you-re a drinker and you happen to smoke when you drink. if you are, nicotine is actually a stimulant (like coffee, cocaine, and other stuff...of course not that hardcore though) and you-ll find yourself way more buzzed or drunk quicker. the only way to quit smoking properly is cold turkey. you got to want to quit. you know what i mean?
Mark Twain Standard answer... -It-s easy to quit smoking. I-ve done it hundreds of times-.

I quit for four years and I started again... Go figure

Will do it again... The way?

1. Zyban
2. Patches
3. No tobacco products
4. No drinking (beer = increased cravings and diminished will power)
5. Attitude = 1 cigarette WILL hurt me

That-s how I did it, and I didn-t worry about weight gain, I just went for walks.
Depends, are you really going to stop or are you just going to whine you want to stop, stop for a day or two, and then go right back to your bad habits. It-s like any habit, you can break it if you have will power. Yes, there is an addictive nature to cigarettes as we all know. yes, it will suck quitting. But what is worse...being a little sick as you go through withdrawals...or getting emphysema?
it depends on the person really?
ive never smoked before but i do know that..my uncle starteds out smoking 3 packs a day for 10 yrs and just one day quit cold turkey. But my dad has been smoking 1/2 pack a day for most of his life and he finds it hard to even go a day without one.
Not hard, my Mom had to quit and she just ate peanuts whenever she felt like smoking a cigarrette. It only took her one month to quit. Try that, you don-t need to eat peanuts if you don-t want to. Try your own method whenever you feel like smoking a cigarrette.
The secret: use a combination of patch, gum and lozenge. One or the other won-t work. Mix them all, and it gives you enough nic. to do it. Also, find something for you hands to do when you-re not smoking. Like drink a lot of diet soda or something so you always have your hands busy.
well im 22 and i started smoking when i was 17 and i only seemed to smoke like a pack a week and then i just stoped..like i didnt feel like i was addicted at all, i only did itfor social purposees nand now i cant stand the smell of ciggaretes!!
Well I don-t smoke, but I heard it-s REALLY hard, and some people die, because they need cigarettes in their lives so yeah either way it-s really hard and imagine people who like been smoking for YEARS.

Yeah , it-s hard.
I have successfully stopped smoking with ease

Not so hard, just but your mouth in ice cold water for 45 minutes and then drink allot of water every day. Eat allot of brownies, carrots, and spinach and your be a non smoker in 2 weeks!
Im quitting as we speak. Im sucking on a nicotine lozenge. I know there is a cigarette over there on my counter, I want to smoke it. God help me, but im just gonna suck the $@-^|* out of this lozenge instead.
the hardest thing I-ve ever tried. I used the patch once and quit for 5 months, and here i am trying it again. I don-t know that i will ever be successful but, im going to continue to try.
statistics say 40 days w/out smoking should trigger the brain cells to forget that you ever smoked
p.s make sure you wear a nictonine patch if you have an urge to smoke

your welcome :)
Very, very hard. It is almost impossible.
and I would suggest if you are thinking about it dont man.
it may be -cool- now, but later on it will be horrible.
Its taken me 2yrs of saying that im going to quit, I had my last one this time yesterday, im now a non smoker. Email me in a weeks time to see if ive stayed off the weed!
