How to improve the respiratory system after quitting smoking for almost three months so far? -

still after quitting smoking, there is still some kind of hot mouth in the morning, and how to speed improving the lungs system to back to normal
I don-t know how long you have been smoking and how much is the damage to your respiratory system, you should go to the doctor to take tests like x-rays, maybe some blood tests too. It is better to know before doing anything. But you can start with some little thing like this:

you can start by getting a good diet:

- cut fatty food, like fast food, and if you go get fast food get the grilled stuff only, no fries, easy on the mayo. Eat more vegetable and fruits.

- start exercising by taking small walks around the block everyday, then 2 blocks, then more and more. Do not push your body if you haven-t been at the doctor-s office before.

Your body is like a car engine, the better you take care of it and the better you fuel it, the faster and stronger will run.

Just start things slow, go to the doctor for a physical then go from there. Because if you have been smoking for a long time it will be along time to recover.

Go online to learn breathing techniques, maybe some yoga.

Good luck.

Quit smoking after 18 or more years? -

Has anyone one smoked a long long time and quit with out drugs? I cant afford the 245 times two it costs for the co-pay for chantrix.... tips? i have tried before, i get angry and cry and give in... I have depression in my family but have only ever feel wired when trying to quit smoking. started smoking at 13 and am not 31.... Any tips would be great tried today... i smoked two cig though gona try again in the morning...
That-s all you can do sister... think of the lines that are going to form around your mouth and the premature wrinkling in your face from smoking that starts to show in your thirties...
Just keep trying... cutting back little by little is the best way!
I have personally had great success with both the patch and with Welbutrin, but you of course want drug free ways. I would first make the conscious decision you want to quit, quit for you and no one else, and be firm in your decision. Avoid being around others who smoke for awhile until you lose your urge, get support and help from loved ones for encouragement and ways to keep you busy and distracted, chew sugar free gum *works well for me*, hold a pencil or something in your hand when you get the urge. Drink water or exercise when you feel the urge to smoke as well, replace a bad habit with a good one! Just know you can do it and if you fall of the wagon, don-t beat yourself up, just try again! Good luck, I-ll be rooting for ya-!
Well I found something that worked well for me, I had a hard time quitting cold turkey, and the patch didn-t work for me either I still smoked with it on. So my friends mom told me about this new thing, I swear by it.

You use it just like a cigarette only it contains no tobacco and no cancer causing agents whatsoever, it-s basically a nicotine water vapor you inhale and it looks, feels and tastes just like smoke. You can use it anywhere! It worked for me because it wasn-t just the nicotine addiction it was the act and feeling of smoking that was hard to do without, with this I still have that.

The best part for me is that it actually is costing me less per month than cigarettes were. And I am adding years back to my life!
My son quit smoking after several years of 2 to 4 packs per day. He did not use any fad cures or medications which just cost you money and always fail to have lasting results. He visited my step-father in the hospital before he died from lung cancer that resulted from a lifetime of smoking. My step-father told him that he had out lived all of his brothers and sisters and now he was going to die from something that he could have prevented. If you really want to quit go visit a few nursing homes for the holidays and count up how many are their from smoking. Then calculate how long it will be before you are in that same situation. Good luck and remember that only will power and a firm desire to quit works. Stay away from other that smoke until you have kicked the habit and put the cigarettes that you have left in the trash and pour something nasty on them so you won-t take a notion to dig them out and smoke them.

Merry Christmas and what a nice gift to give yourself.
I began smoking at the age of 15 and finally quit for good at the age of 57 (a year ago), when I was at a pack a day. Even tho- all the experts say you have to go cold turkey, I think that just increases the craving. This is how I did it. Every time I wanted a cigarette, I only smoked half of it. So, I immediately cut my intake in half. After a few weeks of doing that (gives your body time to adjust to less nicotine), I would only take about 4 puffs, put it out and save it for the next craving. After a few weeks of that, I went to 2 puffs, then one puff (where one cigarette could last me a day or two). My body gradually got used to doing without the nicotine and I got to a point where I said, -when this pack is done, I-m not buying anymore-. That was a year ago. Recently, I stayed with my son, who smokes, and took a drag off his cigarette. I didn-t like the taste and it hurt my throat. If I can do it, you can do it, because I loved smoking!!!
After 17 years of smoking I quit. I was in a similar predicament, could not afford Chantix or Nicorrett. I changed depression medications, and just stopped smoking. No drugs at all, but I was determined to quit, and ready to quit. You will have withdraw from nicotine, it is an addictive drug. Get involved in a support group too, you would be surprised at the amount of support they can give you, and coping actions. good luck.
You can-t quit cold turkey. You need to start weening yourself away from the cigarettes. My suggestion is limit yourself to Smoker-s Choice Little Cigars. Those things will get anyone to quit smoking. Taste like cardboard and ashes. Cost usually between $1 to $2 a pack. Most liquor stores or smoke shops carry them. Not only that, but keep some chewing gum handy for when you get a craving. Chew your favorite flavor instead of having that cigarette. Lastly, steel your will. It takes a crapload of willpower to quit smoking for most people. (BTW, your body is physically over the nicotine in 72 hours, no matter how long you-ve smoked. physically, you no longer feel the want. After that, it-s a mental game).
If you truly want to quit smoking you will just do it. Wake up one day and don-t smoke any cigarettes. Everyday that you don-t smoke a cigarette your desire to smoke will be weaker. You have to do things to keep you occupied so you won-t even think about smoking. I was a smoker and I too started at a young age. I-m 29 now and I quit by working out and staying away from people that smoke. You have to do what works for you.
Heavy smokers that what I was. Forty to fifty smokes a day. Now I am smoke free for nearly twenty years.
My way was a bit costly. I used to cut my cigarettes into half and
than a bit more shorter.Within a month I was having just a puff or two.By the second month I was tobacco free.
Get a book called the easyway to quit smoking, by Allen Carr. it will help. At worst you-ll invest and lose the price of the book. Good luck getting into the correct frame of mind.
what i did was cut down by one each week and after 2 months i didnt have an addiction

Gonna try to quit smoking been reffered by my GP any advice...? -

How long will it take till I can get the magic pill... Will they make me try the patches etc first. I have tried them many times before they never work for me.. I just end up wearing 4 and still smoking. Then feeling rather sick.
I m sorry to say I smoked for 40 yrs, gave up loads of times for a couple of days. In 2000 I had a heart attack, 2 weeks in Hospital and I swore I would never smoke again. Within 2 weeks of being out I was smoking again. THEN 2 months ago my nurse at the asthma clinic asked if I would do a trial test for CHAMPIX. They stop the craving for a ciggie, although I still want one Im not going through any cravings or bad moods. I smoked my last ciggie 3wks and 5days ago.And have no desire to start again , but I could-nt have done it without the tablets.PLEASE TRY THEM . Unlike Fiddler I was told to smoke for 2 wks make that my date and then stop which I did.
The answer is what ever you try you have got to want to, there is no magic cure I-m sorry to say!

I gave up in Jan, because It was time, my skin was showing signs of smoking, my breath stank, my clothes and hair wreaked of smoke,, my teeth are getting weak,, so thought it was time to do something about it,, I used patches and have been very successful,,,, very pleased, at the weekend someone I haven-t seen for months told me I look years younger,,

The money I have saved is taking me to Turkey for one week in August,, so there you go,, its all up to you really. Do you want to do it or not. There is help out there, but not a cure. You have to play a part in giving up,, you have to want to.

Good Luck! Its really worth it!
I quit with Champix last August. It totally worked for me, in fact I didn-t complete the course as didn-t feel I need the full 12 week supply. Made me feel very sick but so worth it as I never even wanted a cigarette and without realising it I had stopped.

I was smoking 20 a day too and I set my target date (essential) but actually stopped the day before as you really just don-t fancy one or get any cravings for one. Feel much better now in all aspects, financially and health wise.

Don-t give up - you will quit! I can-t recommend Champix any higher - for me it was a wonder drug that made you feel lousy!!! But it worked!!! Good luck!
I quit by using the nasal spray. Its effects are instant, ie you are dying for a ciggie, use the spray and you just not bothered about one anymore. You can use it up to 62 times per day usually a spray up each nostril up to twice an hour. I tried patches, didnt work. Went on to spray and i aint had a ciggie for 9 months now. Never felt so bloody rough in my life lol.
O Yea , O Yea , New lungs for old , New group on yahoo , cures anyone of smoking , difficult cases a speciality. No doom and gloom on this site , quitting is very enjoyable - it must be mustn-t it ,think of the massive benfits heading your way .You asked for advice ape x ,so log in and I-ll give you some more
SARAH W....... you interested .?
just tell them they didn-t work before and they might give you the inhalator or a pill which my dad took made him stop and he hasn-t touched a ciggarette in 4 years, but you must have the will power to stop, you have to want to stop and now or treatment will be pointless and a waste or time money and your energy!!

good luck :)
to be honest, if you really want to quit, then this is my adive, i think its like anything, drinking drugs or losing weight whatever, the top and bottom of it is, u need to not make any excuses for yourself, if you want to quite QUIT its willpower mroe than anything....dont just say h ill have jus 1, just dont have 1 its all in your mind, just dont buy them and dont have 1, you have to work hard at it, dig in and say ur nto going to let the cigarettes win, it will be hard but anything worth having like the ability to not want a smoke, is worth working hard for...just go for it no excuses its all down to you, good luck
Get Champix and don-t start taking them until the day comes
when you know. This is the day i stop.I went into hospital to have
an operation(rush job)the other week and got out last Friday.I
haven-t felt like a cig since going in.Bit extreme i know.But you
have to be in the mood to stop and remember the first one you
smoke.Is the first of many.
i have just tried the champix tablets, didn-t work for me and i-m still smoking :(
good luck
Patches,Will Power, and take one day at a time.
They should make you take the patches they are very good! But please resist it WILL kill you!
I give up on tablets with nicotine (Nicotinerrete) mint ones... 4mg are the best for starters. I give up for 4 months and now back to sigs because my Oldest son troubles me too much
Go Cold Turkey. You-ll experience what drug addicts go through.

What was your best method of quitting smoking? -

Been smoking for about 3 1/2 years now, im 18, and i want to quit, but i dont seem to have the will power, i used the gum and inhaler but nothing, alwas went back to it. Help? =) I smoke 1/2 a pack a day
Went to a hynotist (Romane) on Feb 19, 2005 and haven-t smoked since. This was after the patch, gum, Zyban and cold turkey all failed. I figured what-s another $75 after all the money I spent on all that other useless stuff? Good luck, and oh yeah I quit after smoking 18 years!
For some people it works if instead of smoking, you eat mints. I think it works, because I don-t smoke but I love mints, it keeps my mind off of other foods. Also, if you think about how you could die VERY early if you keep smoking, or maybe think about your girlfriend, and how she would love it if you quit smoking, or something like that. -good luck quitting!
i used the patch, i had smoked for almost 10 years. it worked great. My husband also used it, we-ve been smoke free for almost 13 years : ) good luck!
Without a doubt, the nicoderm CQ worked for me. First, identify your triggers. Mine were...behind the steering wheel, on the phone - when I had coffee. Then I placed healthy snax in those locations, such as carrot - celery stix, cinnamin sticks, etc to feed my hand/mouth addiction. Also, drinking distilled water (up to 7 gallons) helps pull the nicotene out of your system quicker. The Nicoderm patch absolutely cut my cravings. I smoked 2 1/2 pax for years - now I-ve been smoke-free for about 15 years.
Determination and -cold turkey- is the only way. I found that out when I was up to 3-4 packs a day and couldn-t breathe.

Chow!!
Try the nicotine patch. I never smoked, so I-m probably not much help, but good luck.
Eating. Every time you have a cig your body releases sugar into your bloodstream which is why smoking acts as an appetite suppressant. Try eating grapes. I was going through 3 or 4 bunches a day for the first week. I ate a lot of other rubbish too, I-d avoid that if I were you. You should find the cravings diminish with time.
Use that with patches to kill the nicotine withdrawal and you might be golden.

Remember, you will only quit if you-re ready, quitting because you probably should generally doesn-t work.
I am a recovering smoker of 10 whole days :) I know my method is one of the worst, but I don-t have the $$ for any of the aides. I quit cold turkey, the things that helped were staying away from my friends that smoke and reminding myself that I want to be around to see my children grow up. ( if you don-t have any, think of the things in the future you may miss by cutting your life short) A big thing that helped, I am only 22 and had to go in for a biopsy of some spots in my mouth on Jan. 30 to see if I had oral cancer, found out yesterday I don-t, thank God, but it was enough of a scare to make me not want to smoke anymore. Some things that may also help is when you want to smoke chew a piece of gum, suck on a hard candy, something like that. I know my suggestions are probably not very helpful, but this has worked for me for 10 days and counting. GOOD LUCK - STAY STRONG!!
ask your doctor about -Chantix- it is a new prescription med that blocks the brains receptors that take nicotine. I-ve dispensed a lot of it lately, and people tell me it-s working.
I-m 43 and have been smoking since I was 18, pack and a half a day. I quit cold turkey, it has been 6 months. Cold turkey is the only way to quit a real addiction. All those gums and inhaler, and patches just aide and cover up, they are still supplying you with the drug. If you are serious, just put them down and walk away, done.
I went cold turkey and PRAYED. I smoked for 12 years and quit 4 yrs and 2 mos ago.
I don,t think there is a best method I just take it one day at a time and try to find the will power from somewhere.

I want to quit smoking... can i just do marijuana instead? -

ive been smoking since i was 15, i did marijuana for like 11 times already for the past 2 months... i wanna quit smoking!help!
ok...I quit smoking on Jan 20th of this year...Its all in your head. I am 29 and started smoking when I was 14. You just have to make up your mind that you are never going to smoke again no matter what. Don-t give yourself a choice, in your head, you have to convince yourself that smoking is no longer an option. I promise you will get used to it. I feel so much better, I cant even explain it. I had forgotten what it felt like to actually breath a deep breath into my lungs. Feels good! Its all about what your telling yourself. Prepair yourself for what is going to happen. You have to know what to expect. You WILL try to reason with yourself. You will tell yourself that it is ok to have just one, just this one time, its ok, you can handle it. NO you can-t...it is the addiction, just know that this will happen and be prepaired to tell yourself no. Don-t start smokin pot instead...Stupid, Stupid, Stupid. and no matter what anybody else says...mental addiction is more powerful than physical addiction, so...just cause weed isn-t physically addicting don- t mean nothin. Just give it up all together...you can do it.

Good Luck...
that it-s better for you is not what I-ve heard, I can remember hearing on a tv program that marajuana is much more toxic, and smoking one joint is like several cigarettes. By all means research this. Look up the American cancer societies website for good tips and possible support for quitting. Your local hospital may have groups as well. Get to know yourself, when do you usually crave a cigarette? Can you avoid those situations, or have an alternative activity planned? Be patient with yourself, some people can just go cold turkey, others may try dozens of times before the change sticks, just DON-T give up.
smoking is smoking. no matter what the substance. if you INHALE it, that is carbon monoxide into your lungs. there is just as much harm from cigarette SMOKE as there is Pot SMOKE....
Oh yeah there-s a smart idea buddy...take up smoking weed to quit smoking cigarettes...then maybe when you want to quit weed...you can start smoking crack...or maybe shoot some heroin...

**idiot**
Are you smoking the mj? If you are then you are still smoking. Try switching to a REALLY nasty brand of cigarette for a while to aid you in quitting. That is what I did, two years ago and have not smoked since. Good Luck
i know it is difficult to quit smoking. find an altenative. like always eat candy. your mouth would be busy. in that way, you may forget smoking.
If marijuana will help you quit tobacco, go for it. It takes an average of 7 tries to quit, so do everything you can. Marijuana is considerably better for you health-wise and is not physically addictive, so you should be able to stop it whenever you want.
I want to quit smoking... can i just do marijuana instead? -

Have any tips on kindly helping someone quit smoking? -

Without any extreme measures or a professional, if possible
Buy a box of the nicotine patches, set a date to quit, tell your friends so that they can help remind you, throw away ALL lighters, matches, fire makers. Get your car detailed to remove the smoke smell. You have to want to quit. If you are feeling pressured to do so, it won-t work for you so easily. Start an excercise plan. If you smoke when drinking with friends, you might have to postpone nights out for a couple of weeks. If you smoke with your morning coffee, try resisting your cigarrette until after you had your coffee. Ask some friends how they quit and get their input. Good luck if this is for you. If you are trying to get a friend to quit, well, they have to want to quit, so don-t pressure them.
Chantix
offer them nicorette gum. everytime your around them tell them smoking gives you a headache and you-d appreciate it if they wouldnt around you.
chew one up and swallow it. or and even easier way, if he/she/you wants to really quit, he/she/you would stop being a pus sy and just STOP. it-s the only cure
always refer to their cigarettes as -cancer sticks- and nothing else
The morning I finally quit smoking I had decided I was going to quit and not let the cigarettes control me any more. I still had 7 left in the pack and I threw them away, along with all the ashtrays and lighters and took it out by the road...it was trash day. I had decided I wasn-t going to let them control me anymore and that I was going to be in control of me! I smoked a little over a pack a day for about 20 years and I have been smoke free for 2 years and one month now. I am attaching the article that I read that made me decide it was time. Good luck.
Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.
Quit a lot - quit all the time. Figure that every minute you-re not smoking you just quit.

The worst problem with quitting those fags is failing and starting again - makes you feel like a toad. So quit and fail a few times - get used to quitting and get used to failure.

These cigs are incredibly poisonous and either you-ll quit or they-ll kill you. But they-re also more addictive than heroine or booze. So cut yourself some slack - you-re going to fail a few times. You know you-re going to quit at some point - everybody does. But practice makes perfect.

My mom suffers from Dementia and daily forgets that she quit smoking.? -

Due to emphysema, the doctor ordered my 86 yr old mom to quit smoking last July. Her health has thankfully improved since then. She, however forgets every day that she quit so she goes through the house looking for cigarettes and then accuses me of hiding them from her. Then she breaks down and cries and goes to bed. Then she gets up and the cycle returns. Any tips on what I can say to her to get her to settle down? Thanks
Offer reminders that she quit smoking. DO NOT argue with her. Attempt to redirect or distract her. Unfortunatly with dementia short term memory is the first to go and this is not a problem that can be fixed. I would simply remind her she has quit smoking. If she gets upset she will be ok and she will forget that you would not let her smoke.
If you are her primary caregiver, try having other members of the family state the same to her.
Offer praises on how proud you are of her for not smoking.
You could also substitute a snack or candy- for smoking.

If you need help with care try adult centers with day programs or some of the home care agencies
oh dear...thats sad. but please, at 86 years old and unwell...dont make her remaining years miserable by denying the thing she likes the best. couldnt you just let her have 2 or 3 cigarettes a day? - i know its not good for her..but if that will make her happy...wouldnt that be best? i sympathise with you though...dementia is a horrible thing and i think you are pretty great for caring for her...i wish you well!
I would love to be able to tell you a simple phrase that wou work but I don-t really know any. Instead let me direct you to a web site with some wonderful products. It is called nikken.com. The products are all natural...no drugs or harmful chemicals. There is one called -mental clarity- that would help with the memory, But there is so many other products there that could help with any other health problem she may be having. Please check out the site. If you have any questions or would like to inquire more info please feel free to contact me
well, explain to her exactly what happened and record it. or make a video. then show it to her the next time she acts up so she realizes she keeps doing the same thing. good luck!
constantley explain to her that she quite smoking. and if that doesn-t work, put her in a good nursing home that way, she-ll be watched over 24 7.
make it a point to brag on her just before the time and you notice she is fixing to ask or look for a cigarette tell her right then mom, im so glad you quit smoking two yrs ago it sure has improved your health dont you think,i know you had told me how you really had such a distaste for them, is it hard to do that i have a friend that is trying and i said i would ask you because most people cant do it the way you did.............good luck
Just freakin let the woman smoke. When you-re 86 you-ll understand. Can-t she just do what she wants? She-s sick anyway.
I have a simple solution to this problem. Buy her a whole food nutritional product called Via Viente. Her health will improve on every front. Their is no other product like this. It was developed after 12 years of research by leading doctors and scientist in the field of nutrition. Drinking this great tasting elixir will help her lose the urge to smoke as well as improve many other health concerns that she may have now. To learn more see the reference material below. If I can help you find this product or answer any questions write to me at boatclub@go.com. This will help more than you will ever imagine.
You probably can-t. Try posting signs/messages around the house saying that she quit and no more ciggs. See if you can get a CPA from your local masshealth/medicare type program, check with social security. They may give you some hours and you can get a break from caring for her.
Talk to her doctor about resources with dealing with people with dementia. They have to be watched 24-7 for a reason and some people know exactly what to do for these patients, so maybe you can get some training on how to help her better, or maybe even hire someone to come and help you during certain hours. It just seems like there should be a better way than her ending up crying herself back to sleep. :-)

Any one have any ideas on how to quit smoking? -

Any one have any ideas on how to quit smoking? -

I-ve given this answer on Yahoo Answers several times.
It really worked for me, as I smoked for 10 years, and quit 25 years ago. Yet, nobody else who asked this question has ever thought this was the best answer.

The American Cancer Society recommended in their literature at the time I quit to use water to help you quit, and it works. Water on the inside; water on the outside.

Drink lots of water. Substitute a glass of water for your cigarettes... always have it on hand. It gives you something to do instead of smoke, and helps flush the nicotine out of your system.

Take lots of showers. It helps give you a distraction, and it washes the smell of smoke from you faster.

You might try consulting their website for further ideas.

I??→mia???
I started smoking at 14. It was cool in those days. I smokedat least 11/2 pk a day until age 44. Before I got the patches I began eliminating all the -I have to have ones now- cig. like with coffee, with a mixed drink, when the phone rang, when I ironed clothes, as soon as I got in my car, always after a meal. I refused to have any on any of these occassions. That broke the habitual light-ups. Then I put the patch on and had tremendous success. Now 66 and never touched another. Much prayer helped!!Also I created what I called my own scripture that stated -Greater is He who is in Me than this lousy cigarette- That helped. When You are really ready-you will succeed.
everytime you get the urge, tell yourself -5 more minutes- wait those five, and by that time you would have preoccupied yourself and you will forget about it. chances are that you are bored. you dont need it, you just think that you do remember: 5 minutes!
just quit. i never somked so i don-t know how hard it is to quit.
pray.
For starters clean your house of any cigratee, yours, your old roomates the ones your friend left. the pack that you didnt even get to open. throw it all away the only expetion is if it belong to your friend if thats the case you can either keep it in a place away from temptaion or throwing them away and slipping your friend a quick $5.

2nd Try to keep yourself from any enviorment where you will be offerd ciggartes, im in my first year of highschool and people have already offerd me drugs and i know if i go to certain parties or certian friends house i will be offerd drugs though i can simply say no and thts that thier my friends and they wont pressure me but in your case your over 18 (legal) and you may have some friends, co-workers, or family memberes that smoke you need to try to aviod times when you smoke. for example at the bank my mother use to work at, people would walk out the bank and talk, socailzie and SMOKE during their lunch break. try to aviod places where people will be smoking because you dont wanna make the wrong desscion.

3. try to build up motivations. if your a mother try to make your motivations your childern if you have a girl/boy friend that your care about alot or a husband/wife try to make them your motivions if your single and no kids try to do it to make someone who cares and belives in you and if they dont belive in you give them reason to beive in you proud if your parents have been stressing you on your smoking try to do it for them show them that you really care and that you have determantion

4. beliving in your succeus and realizing your progress. - my cousin was addicted to porn ( wierd but intresting huh ? ) and he told me that whenever he was about to give up he thought of all the occasions where he didnt give up and overcame the temptation and he didnt wanna give up his record for all this so if you have smoked in 2 monthes do you want to mess it up for 1 ciggrate.

Joey, 14, US

finally take one day at a time. it takes hard work but I KNOW YOU CAN DO IT.
hi, my idea is that you have to control yourself on doing so. you have to remind yourself always that someking is dangerous to your health. just control yourself that-s the best way on how to quit..
i just quit cold turkey. its been like 3 months, and i havent thought about a cigarette since the second day.
It is a hard process, I tried Lazer, do not do that for sure, it does not work, you have to have to want to quit and stay focused. I mentally was not ready for quitting, be calm, and if you want it bad enough it will happen. Buy a lot of licorice and gum. Have you tried the meds you can get from your doctor?
I smoked 3 packs a day for 30 years when I stopped the first time it didn-t work, the dependency was just too great. The second time i used the patch started on 21mg. used them every day the first thing in the am. 4 weeks then graduated down to the 14mg patch,2 weeks, then 7mg patch. By that time i forgot to put the patch on half of the time. Been QUIT10 years. Dont let anyone fool you it is a hard habit to break, the longer you smoke the harder it is to QUIT.
visit the smoking line...
i took up dipping snuff, a lot of guys and gals are doing it. it helped me break a 30yr habbit
everytime you want a cigarette suck on a lollipop prefre sugar free so it doesnt totaly rot your teeth
use the patch too it works
mind set is everything
All kinds... they work too. I-ve been off them for over a month now.
I chewed gum to get rid of my bad habit.........mb that-ll work for you too :]
Be disciplined and stop now, if you really don-t want to smoke then don-t, its all on you, force yourself no matter how bad the urge is, if you really want it, Just do it. Good Luck Champ!
honestly cold turkey worked for me.

Also there is that laser treatment now too i hear is pretty good.

good luck, u can do it!
Stop buying cigarettes. Stop bumming them from friends. Stop putting them in your mouth. Stop lighting them. And most of all, consceiously tell yourself, -NO- when you want to have a cigarette. After about a year, the craving go away completely. Now that I have been smoke free for 3 years, I can go into a crowded smoky bar with all my smoker friends, have some beers and never crave a cigarette. But uderstand it wasn-t like that for a long time.

If you are still having alot of trouble read the book, -Awaken the Giant Within- by Anthony Robbins. In that book it teaches you how to make lasting changes in your bad habits by altering your brain. I know that sounds far out but it is for real.
I think the best motivator of all for me was when I saw, on t.v.,a dead person-s lungs that had smoked; they had black all over them! That was two months ago, and I have only picked up two since then.
stop smoking!!! if your serious about it you will be able to do it cold turkey
Well, while I am reading your question, I have a fag in my mouth. I do not know...maybe cold turkey...but this could drive one crazy. I have never used the patches, but some of my friends have , did not work. Hypnotisism , worked for about 3 months.
I still think maybe cold turkey...I know this will be hard, but if you do it , I will do it with you as well.
is totally depends on your motivation
Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as -my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these -my body needs something- sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the -want something- feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we-ve had one we still have the feeling, and want another!
It-s easy I-ve given up loads of times!
you could quit cold turkey .i heard patches don,t work, you could try chewing gum when you have a craving.
sunflower seeds i guess
and carry lemons with you
if you try to smoke a cigarrette, put lemon juice on it first and you wont like cigarettes anymore
i had a family member who smoked 37 years and one day she quit and threw away all her cigarettes
yes, simply start to hang around with kids more often (assuming your not sick in the head or anything). it-s totally unacceptable to smoke anything around kids, and maybe you-ll make a difference in a kid-s like v. smoking yours away!
thank me very much :-|
best answer?
I quit a long time ago before my daughter was born. I did not want to expose her to the second hand smoke. I had to chew on something (like gum) and had to have something in my hand to keep it occupied and everytime I felt like I needed a smoke I would inhale the fresh air deeply into my lungs. Look into Quigong and breathing techniques and see how that helps naturally without drugs and their side effects.
I smoked for 14 years (half of my life) and quit cold turkey 4 weeks ago. How did I do it? I made a decision to not smoke anymore, and that was it. Ignore the cravings. They will always exist, but they will be less frequent as time progresses. The gum, the patch, the pill... all these things are constant reminders of smoking. The key is to get the idea of smoking out of your mind. The physical addiction goes away after 21 days. The rest is all in your head. Take control of your mind, and it will control your actions. Good luck!!
Any one have any ideas on how to quit smoking? -

Some questions about quitting smoking using hypnosis hypnotherapy? -

Some questions about quitting smoking using hypnosis hypnotherapy? -

1. I-ve heard of some who go through one private session and never smoke again. I found one local therapist who does it, but at 5-8 sessions. Why would you need so many sessions?

2. Of course I want to quit smoking but the -want- is not there in my head (smokers should understand my meaning) If I am not mentally prepared, if the -want- is not there in my head, will hypnosis still be beneficial to quit smoking?
Hello Misty

As a hypnotherapist myself you have more chance of gaining your dream to be a non smoker with sessions, rather than a one off. One off-s can tend to fail for most as it does not always address all of the aspects that the individual has that keep them a smoker.

Hypnosis - NLP can help you to create that -want-.

I hope that you get on well with your chosen therapist - become a happy, healthy non smoker as a result - good luck.

i dont belive in that.. its really all up to you... how bad do you really want to stop smoking..
I have read that hypnosis is a great aid to quitting smoking. Tried it. It didn-t work for me. Then I did a little reading on the subject, and it seems that some people are not as impressionable to hypnotic treatments as others. So it works for some, but not for all. As for just one treatment, no. It takes multiple treatments if it is going to work for you.

As for the -want-...it-s a necessary part of the quitting process. To reinforce the -want-, make a list of all the reasons for quitting. Make copies of that list and post them in every area of your home that you smoke in. Make a small print copy to keep with you when you are away from home. Use the list as needed to keep those reasons fresh in your mind.

The decision to quit is not a one time event, which is why it can be so difficult. Every time you get the urge to light up, you have to make the decision to skip that cigarette. It wasn-t your first cigarette that got you hooked, it was all the successive cigarettes you smoked that created the habit and the addiction. Likewise, it won-t be the first cigarette you say -no- to that will make you an ex-smoker, it-s all the successive cigarettes you skip that slowly changes the habit and dissolves your body-s dependency.

Smoking cessation is a challenge, but it is do-able. There are lots of -quit smoking- websites that offer great suggestions as well as support.

Ive just recently quit smoking pot, i use to smoke 4-5 times now im suffering from anxiety any help? -

Im guessing this is anxiety?

It sounds like a bit of withdrawal even though they say pot is non-addictive physically, it really gets you psychologically. I think it-s natural that you are experiencing some anxiety due to this change in your life, it will probably take a little while for your body and mind to adjust. Try some deep breathing, meditation or yoga to focus your energy on something tranquil. It will probably become less frequent as time goes on. Good luck!
So much for the theory that pot isn-t addictive.

It will take some time to get over the withdraw symptoms...after all you have taken away a major part of your lifestyle.

If I were you I would go to a doctor and see if you can be put on anti anxiety meds and/or a non-habit forming sleep aid.

Another thing that I would start tomorrow is:

Drink water, at least 8 glasses a day (helps fight dehydration which can stress you out, believe it or not).

Walk for an hour or so at a leisurely pace (at least 4 hours before going to bed, doing it any closer can further screw up your sleep habits)

Avoid caffeine at all costs.

Avoid sugar as much as possible.

Good luck and take care.
yeah the only proven symptom from quitting the grass is anxiety. I know how you feel too though, I used to smoke 3-4 times a day last semester in college and I got all a-s and b-s, now I quit this semester and I-m lucky to pass my classes. It-s a wonderful thing.
You are having anxiety due to chemcial withdrawls. Because your body has become dependent on the checmical THC (the thing in marjuana that gives you the sensation of being high) cutting your body off from that chemcial has put it into a form of shock. Smokers go through similar withdrawls when their body stops recieving nicotine. I-ve read that the withdrawl symptoms can last between 3 days to 3 weeks depending on the concetration of the chemical in your body when you quit the substance. In your case since you smoked 4-5 times a day you probably have a high concentration of THC. It may take some time for your body to return to normal and you will be able to function without feeling anxious. If you can make it 3 weeks without smoking your normal body chemistry should take over again and the anxious feeling should subside because the chemical THC has dispated enough from your body that you are no longer dependent upon it to funtion normally.
i know what you are going through must be very frustrating. when my ex use to smoke when he would go without it he would get very antsy and agitated like that too. only thing i can tell you is to wait it out. it takes a little time to get your body use to not having it in your system. these feelings will go away and you will feel better. just give it a little time.
Can-t you just go to the emergency room for tonight and go to the doc tomorrow, I-m sure they-ll be glad t help you, maybe even through your probation officer? I suffer anxiety and have meds for it so I feel for u. Try gum, sunflower seeds maybe a Tylenol PM til tomorrow. Good luck and hang in there!
Firstly, it will pass, I can assure you. It-s a pretty horrible feeling and takes a while even to realise that it is a result of not smoking, but it will pass in time. (A matter of weeks in fact). High level anxiety is the right word and it definitely results in shorter temper, inability to concentrate for any length of time without getting agitated and yeah, nervousness and worry (possibly paranoia to a degree). Very difficult to sleep too and it feels like you wanna sit bolt upright every few minutes because there-s so much buzzing go on.... not very nice, I know.

But it will pass, hang in there, it will start to feel better in as little as another week or two, honestly. If you want to see a doctor for any legal drugs you can have it wouldn-t hurt I guess, but to be honest, it-s probably best not to. Not sure how fit you are but extra exercise helps a lot, it will help you sleep too and ease those shakes.

I started swimming and running at the time and that helped me. Glass of wine doesn-t hurt either but try not to substitute one thing for another and rely on it.

It’s hard but the most important thing to do is realise what it is that-s causing it and remember that when you feel the worst. (I have no idea about the medical / biological side of withdrawal of this substance and it doesn’t matter at all) – you know that’s all that’s happening and it will soon get better.

I know sometimes you feel like you want to just run from yourself or the physical and mental feelings you are having, or slam your head into a wall to stop the buzzing, but just know it will soon be over. Try and occupy your mind as I said with exercise, reading, whatever.

It will feel a lot better soon. Take care, all the best !!
If you think you have an anxiety disorder, the first person you should see is your family doctor. A physician can determine whether the symptoms that alarm you are due to an anxiety disorder, another medical condition, or both.

If an anxiety disorder is diagnosed, the next step is usually seeing a mental health professional. The practitioners who are most helpful with anxiety disorders are those who have training in cognitive-behavioral therapy and/or behavioral therapy, and who are open to using medication if it is needed.
A therapist helps a lot, get your phone book out and start searching for the right help.
For sure it is anxiety and i get anxiety because of stress and u probally are all stressed about not smoking but talk to urself and u will be okay and put a wet rag in the back of ur neck and take deep breathes always worked for me.
See a MD.
yes it is.

find a hobby. ANYTHING TO KEEP YOU BUSY WILL HELP! personally i-d get a punching bag. because if i were you i-d probably get pissed off easily :]
The same thing happened to me. I don-t know what it is but when I quit smoking weed I became afraid of everything and had beginning anxiety issues. Starting smoking pot again doesn-t make it go away either. There is a lot of things you can do to help with anxiety such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, and cutting down on caffiene products. Meditation really helps. Try it out!

NO IT DOESN-T EVER GO AWAY. I HAVE QUIT FOR 11 YEARS NOW AND THE ANXIETY STILL HASN-T GONE AWAY, IF ANYTHING ITS GOTTON WORSE OVER THE YEARS. THE ONLY THING I FOUND THAT HELPS IS MEDITATION
just dont worry about it.. itll pass.. just do something else to pass the anxiety.. like smoke cigarettes or something....
Your body is going through withdrawals, this is the same with any drug. Even with drugs like caffeine will have the same effect on some people. Drink a lot of water, this will flush out toxins from your body. Keep your diet healthy and it should help the detoxificaton process quicker. Having a bad diet doesn-t really help matters. Go to a health food store and tell them your looking for a relaxant, this will ease the anxiety. Camomile maybe. You can get it in tea nowadays.

Remember everything you ingest ends up in your blood stream which in effect travels to your brain and has a chemical reaction.
This is a very hard step, but it will help you in the future. Find something that will get your mind off of it. When my friend quit pot, he got a job and bought an IPOD. His music helps him focus and not even worry about it. He-s been sober for about 3 months now and he-s never been happier. Just try to find things you can occupy your time with, and when something gets on your nerves, just remember what you are doing will benefit you later.

Well you are probably experiencing withdrawals. If you smoked that much for that long, your body is ridding itself of the toxins and it also is not used to not being filled with pot smoke. And weed usually calms people down, mellow, so you are probably experiencing anxiety.

I had the same thing when I quit using cocaine.

It will get better. You have only stopped using a week. Good luck.
Smoking marijuana and using other drugs often masks a more serious problems dealing with life in general. When I stopped doing drugs years ago, I felt paranoid, anxious and fearful for a couple of years. Looking back, I realized that this was because even though I thought the drugs were helping me cope with life, they were really just giving me a big rock to hide behind. When i stopped smoking, I felt alienated from the rest of the world (the non-drug users) and unable to communicate effectively with other people. The problems I hid from got bigger - much bigger - and when I came out from behind that rock, it was a very difficult transition to create a new lifestyle that was sensible, understanding and healthy. It would have been easier if I just faced my problems in the first place, rather than attempting to hide.

What you are experiencing (and what I experienced) is a common problem among people who give up any substance abuse. Give it time and be forgiving of yourself - it is the best thing you can do. You will feel better.
