Besides cold turkey
Chantix
Buy More smoke less.I don-t mean smoke more.I mean buy a pack of cigarettes called More. I guarantee you smoke less or like I do I force a pack to last at least 4-5 days,if I-m traveling I may take1-2 with me.Certain foods/drinks make you crave for one so I try to wait and not smoke directly after eating whatever it is like CHICKEN(fried) PRAYING when I get a urge and can-t....Sometimes I look and say WOW I didn-t smoke yet;then I give Thanks...I can feel the difference already even though I never smoked more than a pack per day. This is my 3rd attempting to stop, the first 2 times I stopped for 6 months. Why did I start again,Birthday Bashes/Stress.....Medically: I don-t like the gum,I forget to wear the patch, got bored with the inhaler other then that COLD TURKEY or in my case Slow Turkey......Blessings Yahoo
Read up on it. Go to the local library and get some books on how people stop -bad and dangerous habits-. I quit a long time ago, and I made a list of benefits to quitting. I was saving, back then a couple thousand dollars a year! Cig.-s have gone up to $5.00 a pack and up! I would never pay that, not to mention the lung disease! I lost three friends in a row as a direct result of there smoking! Lung cancer , and complications to the respiratory system. Always think quality of life, how much better it-s going to be! You can do it!
By not smoking.Simple - isnt it. All it takes is self confidence. If you lack it you-ll continue to only ask such questions.Go ahead. After all its only a bloody habit, kick it.You are the master of your actions. If its other way round.Bye.
Ditto on the Chantix!

Both Hubby and I quit March 10th, and haven-t fallen back to it. It-s a bit expensive, but worth it.
Substitute it for another habit which is less harmful, such as drinking alot of coffee.
If you can-t make it by going cold turkey, then I-d go along with the previous answer....Chantix worked for me.

I-ve been smoking since 12 yrs.old now 26,I need real help not just someone I could talk too..my son has been praying for me to stop I have actually been praying myself but the urge is stronger then our pryaers. I go on sites and they ask me info. refers me to support groups,I don-t think talking about it will help any... as I write these couple of words it makes me want to go fetch one. so quickly I return to the main course. WANTING TO QUIT.....
I-ve taken a course to learn how to hold smoking cessation classes. You-ve got the best thing already....WANTING TO QUIT.
If you can hold off the first 3 days, you-ve got the hard part over with, according to most who quit. ALL symptoms should be gone in a couple weeks.
Just keep trying. I personally recommend the -cold turkey- method because if you use a product to help you stop smoking that contains nicotine it will continue supplying your cravings for nicotine, prolonging the process. If you can find a stop-smoking product that does NOT supply nicotine in any way, it-s probably safe.

Try to distract your urge-most of them won-t last more than a few minutes. Try:

Chewing some gum
Go for a walk
Take a shower (one place it-s difficult to smoke!)
And anything else that will distract you!

You can make it!

P.S. I-ll email you with more info if you-re interested. Add to your post saying so, if you want.
Try this ebook. I-ve heard it-s pretty effective
american lung association. american heart association. both have very good help with stopping smoking. good luck I will be quitting soon myself I hope

My mom has been smoking since she was 8 years old and now she is 40 something i think it is time for her to quit so my question is how do you quit smoking what did you do that actually worked
Perhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.
I agree with KSM. The NLP is just like motivator that keep you get going and focus to stop smoking. You can find out more about it at this website
Hi,

I just quit smoking yesterday, by using NLP technique patented by Dr. Densky. Its just so easy. You have to just watch a video and your cravings for smoking will go. It does something with your subconscious mind and i am just feeling as if i have never ever smoked. My sincere request to all smokers to try this.. it will work.

I never thought in my life that i can quit smoking for anything but
this has changed my entire view about life. Because as a smoker i think the only thing i cared about in life was when i am going to have next cigarette. LIFE is really much more than that.
i heard the best way is to always have nicotine gum..

How to Quit Smoking I Have Tried Everything Like Quiting Cold Turkey, The Patches, The Gum, The Pills, And Nothing Works, And It Is Getting Worse I-m Up To A Pack And 1/2 A Day And It Just Bothers Me So Much That I Can-t Quit And They Just Cost So Much So Please Help Me....
Have you checked out the electric cigarette yet? The ones that actually look like a cigarette..I am going to try them in a few months (when I can afford it)! What is cool is that you still get the nicotine, but not the other chemicals and you can decrease the amount of nicotine until you are to the point of not needing it anymore. A good website is ecigarettes.com
Smoked for 50 years and gave up over 3 months ago after reading the book -Allan Carr-s Easy Way to Stop Smoking-. No patches, chewing gum or anything else as a substitute, so I suggest that you give it a go. It worked for me, so why not you? I was regularly smoking 15 cigarettes per day.
Sometimes something personal needs to happen. I smoked for many years and then I quit once for a week and said, -well, it is good to know I can quit if I want to!- I then immediately started smoking again. Then, back on 8/9/08, I found out someone I knew (who wasn-t a smoker, but hung out with smokers) had lung cancer. The fact that I was harming those around me impacted me more than just knowing it was bad for ME. So, I quit on the morning of 8/10/08. I used 8/9 to smoke the last cigs I had (I didn-t go out and buy new ones, but I did finish my pack). I haven-t smoked since and I turned to excersise as my new vice:). So, think about how not smoking is going to have a positve impact on your whole life, not just your health. Maybe that will help.
My mom went to church and got SAVED! She was delivered from cigarette smoking. That day when church service let out.. she went to the car to get the pack of ciggs and crushed them by stomping on them. i personally witnessed this and she has never smoked since! And its free!! By simply asking Jesus into your life you can be delivered from anything! But you have to understand and believe that he can save you!
Go visit a couple cancer wards with dying lung cancer patients. if that doesnt wake you up, nothing will. Than look at the statistics of you being one of them in the future.

What do u do if ur boyfriend wont quit smoking pot? -

The next time he is stoned mention things to him that are totally stupid and not to be believed because he will. Mess with his head. Then when he is not high ask him why he believes those crazy ideas. After several episodes he will either smoke more or tell you he needs to quit. When all is said and done... you might just want to start looking for a new guy.
If ya can-t beat him, join him.
You could get yourself another boyfriend. This one just might not have much of a future in life.

The decision is entirely up to you.
Force him to make a choice: pot or you.
Smoke his pot so that he won-t have any. He-ll have no choice but to quit
leave him,he is being foolish. he knows how to smoke it but does he understand what it does to you/? he make think it takes his troubles away, but it dont,i know .my son wouldnt listen either. now i visit him,but cant talk to him, he is with god. please talk to him. it is wasted money. giving it to someone to destroy there lifes. i will pray for him.
Make sure he learns how to run his own business because he will never get a good job working for any company.
Get a new boyfriend. I mean, you are better than that aren-t you. I-ve been there, trust me, he-s not going to quit. It will be hard to break up and find someone new. Don-t settle for less- ever. The right one is out there.
Break up with him...Seriously pot is something u do for 1 reason to make urself feel better and it usually hurts everyone else bc its ppl do stupid stuff when they r high. I would not recommend dating anyone that was a regular user. It-s true 1 high leads to another.
Give him an ultimatum... If he really values he will quit. My friend-s ex-boyfriend quite pot, drugs, stealing, drug dealing and everything else so that he could date her and he was in love with someone else at the time.
I am not sure but i struggeled with it about four months ago. Then i had Five baby girls born and i just lost the desire when i realized there was more to life than that.

Maby you can say that you love him so much that it hurts you to see him like that and that he hurts all the people he loves when he does that.
i also sugest you help him sever all ties between him and his bad inflluences.
when you look good you feel good so maby take him shoping for some non thug looking clothes abercrombie, Old Navy, Or even just some collerd shirts.
my boyfriend smokes pot too....wat ive leaned to do is make a deal with ....like if hes comeing to see u then he cant smoke pot before he comes that way yall can both be happy 2 gether ....trust me it works

Quit smoking and dont feel good!? -

I just quit smoking a week and a half ago. They say you are supposed to feel better, but I feel worse! My breath was better when I was smoking, I feel tired all the time and I have this weird feeling in my stomach, not pain really but an emptiness (feels like if you swallowed gum or something) Is this normal..does it go away?? HELP!?
I can offer a little guidance. I worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist for around 30 years before I changed to computers, so I know some about it. I also quit about a year ago, after smoking for 42 years. First thing of course in hang in there. Don-t even consider going back to it. When the thought crosses your mind go immediately to another thought. Refuse to dwell on it. Watch for -triggers-. Sometimes old acquaintances and hangouts can become a problem.

On the physical stuff, it-s all real, kiddo. Your lungs are pretty much numb while you are smoking. When you stop, feeling comes back and THEY HURT! That usually starts around the second day, and can go on a couple of weeks. You-re probably in about the worst of it right now. There is actual inflammation involved, which has to heal. If you have any asthmatic tendencies, get on your meds and stay on them for a while. The other main issue is sputum (phlegm, mucus, snot). You have a lot of old sputum in your lungs you-re probably not aware of. The normal clearance mechanisms are suppressed by the smoking, although your body actually makes more while you smoke as your body tries to trap the smoke particles. This sputum settles in, looses it-s moisture, and forms solid plugs, or -casts- in your airways. These are tiny, about the size of a pencil dot, cylindrical, and brown colored. Drink lots of water (around 4 liters/day). At some point you will start to notice these in your sputum if you look. Because the airways fork DOWNWARD, as a plug moves up it temporarily blocks off more lung area until it gets high enough. Then it stimulates a cough reflex and you will cough it out. A lot of the shortness of breath comes from that. It depends on how long you smoked, but this can go on for years, even after everything else is past. The shortness of breath will get better or worse on a day to day basis for a while.

Finally, if they haven-t offered you Wellbutrin, or put you on it, go talk to them about it. Unless there is a medical reason you can-t take it, I-d highly recommend you do. It basically helps with anxiety, which the withdrawal causes. I thought it was unnecessary until I went through this. I was doing just fine until I went back to work, then OH BOY! Stress city. It does help. If they put you on it, don-t feel like you have to come right off. Stay on it as long as you feel like you need it (at least that-s what they told me). I hope some of this will be helpful. Good luck and God Bless. And Well Done!
Withdrawl symptoms can fell awful! Just keep it up and they will go away. Drink more water and try to exercise more, this will flush your system faster and help you get back to feeling good. Congratulations on giving up a nasty habit!
Yes it is normal, and yes it will go away.

Just DONT LIGHT UP again.

Go out and get some excersize. It will help immensely.
What you are experiencing are withdrawal symptoms. Keep in mind your body has become addicted to the nicotine from the cigarettes, and your body now has to adjust to not getting it anymore, and try to return to normal.
Probably, you just got used to your breath back then. But anyway, yeah, I think you might be having withdrawals. Just try to keep yourself busy. Shop, chatter away on the phone, cook, etc. Just make sure it-s something that you-re pretty much interested in, so as not to lose focus. :) Good luck!

How did you quit smoking? -

I-ve tried and failed. Any helpful advice welcome.
Quit breathing!
Well, I don-t smoke myself but my personal advice would be that, first of all, you have to want it. Set your mind on it. Something that works for me when I need to remind myself is to write little notes to yourself. For myself, I bought myself a small white board (about the size of a sheet of paper) that I can write things on and I see it every day. I also write what I need in block letters, colored and everything, on a sheet of paper, and I tape it to the area above my bed, so that I see it each morning and each night.

Another thing I-ve noticed that help people is to have something to distract them from smoking. Like when you have the urge to smoke, chew a piece of gum. I-m not sure if something else, like doing sudoku for example, would help, but it might be something to experiment on.

You can try those patches and things if you-d like, but really, I think going cold turkey, as hard as it may be, is best.

Maybe, if you like exercising, you can try going for runs more often or something. When I want to eat healthier, I try to exercise more. I don-t know what it is, but something about exercising makes me not want to eat junky food.

I also found this website (the link below), which goes into much detail about how to help you quit.

I really hope this helps!
~Chi
hi Martinez ..

yep it usually takes more than one attempt.. don-t get discouraged.. i smoked for over 40 years, and tried several times, before i succeeded.. so please keep trying you will find the right way for you..

i have been quit now for over 5 years..because of my involvement in a support group.. i attend nicotine anonymous meetings both locally, and on line... on line voice meetings are as close as your computer, and your welcome to attend before actually attempting a quit..

Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
easier said then done.
nicotene is the MOST addictive drug there is. more addictive then heroin. the likelihood of addiction is 96%. there is however a new prescription -chantix- that has just recently come out. and has a 44% chance of quitting.
CHANTIX is different from most other quit-smoking products. It targets nicotine receptors in the brain, attaches to them, and blocks nicotine from reaching them. By activating these nicotine receptors, it is also believed that CHANTIX causes less dopamine – compared to nicotine – to be released.

site link = www.chantix.com.. and good luck :)
Think deep into your future.... so when you pick up a cigarette, think what this is going to do in a long run.- would you like to carry a oxygen tank when your old?? or the air we breathe right now is how we live right? can you imagine if you have emphysema from smoking too much your body may regect air in your body causing you to suffocate??

I use to smoke too. That-s the way I used to think and now, I get discussed when I smell cigarette.
GOOD LUCK!!
eat alot and sleep and run till you sleep so you block out the smoking habits

What is the best way to quit smoking? -

I know this question has been asked before but my dilemma is this: My Back Porch. I know it sounds stupid so hear me out:

I do not smoke at work, in my car, in my home, not even when I-m out socially, but the first thing I want to do when I get home is go to my back porch and light up. What-s that about?

I believe I can quit with patch-assisted help, but what do I do about the beautiful porch nestled in the mountains calling my name??? I look at my deck as an extension of my home and I-ve tried to -not going- outside but it drives me nuts!

HELP - I have some freaky mind-block that I can-t snap out of.
well i am a smoker have been for about 12 years now, I really hate it because your clothes stink your car stinks, even your hair. Its a nasty habit ,But I understand where your coming from, I don-t smoke in the house but i do smoke in the car. other wise when i-m at home i-m always trying to hurry up and finish something i-m doing so I can go smoke. well i would say keep yourself away from smokers but that don-t seem to be your problem! that is kinda crazy lol, it-s a whole mind thing, you know when you get home that is your relief, your used to going to the porch when you get home and enjoying a cig. yes there are patches, pills, hypnosis, and gum, some people it may help but for me those things would be a waist of money! I got it bad(lol)!
you could do like your first answer said but I don-t know how much that wil work. if you wanted to try something over the counter it might help then when you get home use it see if it will take the edge off. otherwise try to keep yourself busy so that will not be the only thing you thank about get you some gum or candy to suck on when you get home.. I really wish I could help you more cause I know what it-s like to want to quit!! your right your case is a little crazy! lol

You have to have control!,Strength!,and the real want to!
I know it-s hard I have tried to quit to but it-s so hard I guess I just don-t have enough want to at this point!
Merry Christmas! Happy New Year!
WANT SOME CHEESE WITH THAT WHINE???STOP
SMOKING OR DIE TRYING.
pick up another habit... buy lots of gyms and mints and start chewing and sucking..
You have to change your thinking of what you are doing when you come home.example---when you come home start cleaning because if you keep yourself busy you will not thinking about smoking,
Quitting completely is rough (even slowing down). I-m on week 2 coldturkey after 25 years of cigs - you have to find something else out there that pleases you. Just avoid the porch for now - zone out in front of mindless TV, sex alone or with lover a.m.a.p.,
walks, etc.. You can -practice- using the porch by briefly stepping out and taking in some deep breaths, and go back in. Smoking/nicotine creates associations too easily - gotta break them somehow. You-re really doing great so far - keep it up!!
Think of anything else that might change your thoughts when out on the porch - be imaginative...
best way to quit smoking is just to stop cold turkey. it is hard but it works.
Cold turkey, develop a new routine when you get home.
The only people I know who were ever successful at quiting smoking were the ones who did so cold turkey. They put-em down and never picked them up again. Every other method I-ve heard of that has been tried had also eventually failed. I once dated a girl who smoked about the same amount that you do. She had trouble quitting as well until I mentioned to her that she wasn-t bringing the next cigarette to her mouth....that cigarette had the power to bring her to it. Evidently I said the right phrase cause the thought that the cigarette was the one with the power over her and not her over it kinda freaked her out. Enough to quit anyway. She went cold turkey and never smoked again. Good luck. Remember, nothing good will ever come from it.
Next time you find a cig in your mouth, eat it.
give the person your oath or do not talk to the person and give him opposite answers using something bad about smoking
my stepmom got hypnotized about a month ago and has not picked up a cig since, but she chews gum like crazy.
Try drinking coffee or tea instead whenever you are there. I am also struggling to quit smoking before i go to bed.
Well...You ra eally need to change the behavior that goes along with the smoking, unfortunately. The porch. What you could do is try doing something different while on the porch such as drink some herbal tea or eat a light snack...I have struggled with smoking for years, you sound like you are well on your way to quitting!! Good Luck!!
hmmm smokers never grow old cuz they die young.. thats an old saying and probably true.. well there are a few ways to do this one.. cut up your ciigs in half so u cut down on smoking..
2.. do a calculation of HOW much u spend each year on cigs.. that should freek u out.. unless u have too much money to burn..

3. get a radio on the porch so u have soemthign else to do..or use the phoen.. keep ur hands busy ...
First stop buying the cigarettes. If you dont have them you cant smoke them. Learn to do something else on the backporch that helps you relax when you come home. Try Drink some hot tea or coffee or anything. You could also try to learn some relaxing techniques and exercises to do while enjoying your back porch.
all you need is a strong will, and, find something else to do on your porch :)
Why not just quit buying the darned things? It-s pretty hard to smoke something you don-t have in your possession. Am I missing something? Keep your wallet in your purse and stop buying them.
I quit many years ago 1964 and I can tell you what worked for me it will not be easy so don-t think patches and pills will make it easy. You need to finally admit to yourself that you are going to quit then stop doing it every time the urge comes up you have to overcome it. It will get easier each time but it still will take a long time. In my case it was years. good luck and enjoy the view.
