Quit smoking a week ago and now i have a hard time sleeping at night? help please !!!? -

ok since i quit last week iv been going to bed at a more normal time, around 11, but every night i wake up every hour, like 12, 1, 2, 3 ,4 ,5 all the way up to 6, and its getting anoying :( , is there anyway i can stop doing this? what-s going on? and thanks for the help peaoples :)
Your body is adjusting and it should go away in a month or two. Try reading before bed or putting more exercise into your day.
You need the right treatment...As it always goes with the smokers, their craving for nicotine is hard to be overcome. Every smoker swears that he will quit the habit -tomorrow- and forever, but it never happens. In my case, however, my physician had advised me to stop smoking as I suffered from migraines continuously for days and I had to miss my work. His prescription drugs only made me physically and mentally worse and soon I was out of my daily routine. I discontinued the drugs and continued to smoke as usual. One of my old friends told me to buy smoke deter to quit smoking.

I knew there were some supplements claiming to create an aversion to smoking, like -smoking aid-, -quit smoking in 7 days-, -anti smoking pill,- etc. The owners of suchlike products were making money by exaggerating the facts. I had tried some of these products but I did not find anything worthwhile in them and I was reluctant to buy smoke deter as one of such type of supplements.

One day, I got up from my seat in the middle of some important point in a meeting and went out to smoke a cigarette. My same old friend who was attending the meeting again advised me to buy smoke deter this time to give it a try.

I read the full details about smoke deter and came to know that unlike other supplements, it was purely a homeopathic combination and did not have any side effects. The supplements I had used had caused burning and inflammation in my mouth. Though, I was doubtful about it being safe to use, I bought it just to see if it worked as my health was seriously running down. I had its first dose in the form of a spray under my tongue and it tasted a little bit like alcohol mixed with something like a flower essence, which was relishing.

I used the remedy as per directions put on the label but didn-t find any effect on me. I was smoking as usual and I was very much worried about what to do further. In frustration, I discontinued its use and was thinking of some other alternative like self-hypnosis to boost my confidence to quit the habit at once. But after a few days, I did felt its effect and whenever I wanted to smoke, I found there was not an intense urge like before. It is more than a year now I haven-t smoked a single cigarette.

The smoke deter is free from any crude herbal substances and it contains only herbal dilutions in tincture form or in potency to act mildly on human organism and some dilutions in 200c to affect the mental sphere to get rid of the habit of smoking.

Check the url in the source box below for a free trial and also more info about this product. It seems to confirm some of my comments and is dedicated to helping smokers improve their health, fitness and beat the smoking habit.
Yeah, this is normal.I Just relax. You are going through nicotine withdrawal.

It takes about 3 days to a week for the nicotine and other toxic chemicals to clear from your system. After the nicotine and stuff leaves, the rest is just all in the mind. Study shows that smokers tend to be more addicted to the motion of placing a cigarette up to their mouth than the actual smoke. Shows you the mental frustration that follows smoking.

So, once you get gid of this anxiety you should be catching up on sleep, from all the getting up and down; going in and out to smoke a cigarette, rather than loosing out. Your mind now has to come to eases with you body and soul.

Im trying to quit smoking, its been very tough.any tips on how anyone else quit to help me out? -

I kept myself busy, and for the times when I had nothing to do, I chewed on straws. Quitting smoking is the best thing you can ever do for yourself! Another thing I did, was when I was finding it really hard, I would get online and discuss quitting smoking with others who were in the same position I was in. I think talking to others about quitting smoking helped the most! It really is hard, but don-t give up even if you have a relapse! The benefits are well worth it!
Ok, quitting is easy for some and so damn hard for others.

If we look at why people start smoking in the beginning we should look at the life circumstances that drove normal human beings into such habits.

It is an emotional journey in the house or family one is living in. This is not only limited to family but to the social groups and ones work.

Cut the emotional crap out of your life and you will cut the unnecessary things you will do to harm your body.

Here-s what I did first thing - get a hold of my life and decide what I want to do with my body as far as shoving down **** through it.

I started to decide for myself instead of letting others have an affect on me. I distanced myself form peoples problem either indirectly or directly aimed at me.

So be a strong minded person.
Be an individual thinker.
Decide what you want instead of making others happy about what they want you to do. (this is probably what peer pressure is all about).
Use patches as prescribed and have the want to and it will work!!!!

Want to quit smoking, HELP!!!!!!? -

I really want to quit smoking and have heard about several people that was successful with acupunture.
How do I go about finding a legitimate acupuncurist?
Any ideas, comments and information would be greatly appreciated.
I smoked for many years and tried several times to quit and failed . Finally quit using a pill called Chantix. Its not offered over the counter but, know several people who have quit using it.
well i am to and all i can say is that if you use tha patch stratch them it heat them up and get out the nicatene and the gum tastes naty but is works just suck on it in your chek
if you REALLY want to quit you can do it .....I quit cold turkey and it was hard but everyone else who quit using acupuncture or the patch eventually went back you can try chantix to help also good luck
I did acupuncture. It would have helped if i had the right state of mind... I mentally was not ready to quit...
I opened the phone book and called a few doc-s. The one i went with was the guy that offered to do as many as i needed in 1 mo to quit smoking.(the whole month included in the inital price) He was great and it was extremely relaxing.
I actually just bought the patches and i am about to go back to getting acupuncture. Good luck- i know i need it. lol
If you really want to quit, Die from it first and if you are lucky enough to be brought back to life as I was, it will be easy.

Quit smoking and strep? -

I quit smoking a week ago....Now, I-ve developed strep throat. Is it common to get sick after stopping smoking? I wasn-t sick at the time I was smoking, and I haven-t been around anyone who has been sick. Just wondering if something happens to your immune system when you stop smoking? (I was a pack a day smoker for 8 years) Thanks.
It may just be a coincidence, I did not get sick after I quit smoking, I smoked for 14 years and gave it up one year for lent, that lasted five years until a-mountain- fell on me, then I smoked for two years... I am now a non smoker again ( one year)
I did not personally get sick when I quit smoking but I believe the reason you got sick is because of all the stuff that had accumulated in your lungs for the past 8 years coming out of your system through your throught that made your throat weak and prone to disease. Please don-t lose this battle, or get discouraged, it has been six weeks for me and I feel great. Keep smoke free and good luck to you.

What keeps you from going crazy when quitting smoking cold turkey? -

I have noticed that after a day or so of not smoking I start getting very irritable and cranky and downright ancy. How long does this last. I have only been smoking for a few years but I am sort of a heavy smoker. I wanna quit and I want some advice from people who have done it cold turkey.
Takes forever to get it out of your system. I just stopped one day. I think realizing that you don-t get much from it helps you out the most.
Nicotine Narcotic Poison is used by many plants for defense against insects. The game plan is for the Narcotic to mimic the -satisfaction and sense of well being- brain enzyme, and stop the insect from eating the plant, while it slowly dies from the toxin/poison characteristic roughly 100 times the toxicity of cobra venom. Humans are tough enough that given time, we can build up resistance to the poison, and enjoy the narcotic. However, the brain stops making that enzyme on its own, if we do this. Psychologically, we have a programmed need for feeling -okay- at intervals, as our ancestors who sought security, satisfaction, etc., did better in life and had more children to pass on the genetics for that sort of built-in game plan. If a person is addicted to frequent Nicotine Narcotic binges, and quits, the instinct that something is dreadfully wrong falls upon us. Observe a lovers couple pouncing on cigarettes and pretending the feeling of satisfaction was from the sex! Hilarious and disturbing seen for what it really is. Tapering off is as good as toughing it out, for various kinds of people. But stop poisoning oneself and everyone around oneself. Regards, Larry.

When does a persons metabolism goes back to normal, after she quit smoking? -

When does a persons metabolism goes back to normal, after she quit smoking? -

I quit smoking on Jan.4,2007. But I don-t understand what you mean about going back to -normal-. I quit for 3 years prior to that and went back to it for 6 months. Jan. 4th was 6 months. Then I officially quit for good. This time there are no cravings if that is what you mean. Each person is different. They way I feel may not be how you are feeling. But if you crave then eat sunflower seeds, gum, hard candy, etc. If you worry about weight gain, then eat diet stuff. Good luck and congratulations. It will be worth it in the long run. Quiting after 32 years of smoking was very hard. It was the hardest thing I ever done. The important thing is to set a goal for yourself and it will help you stay quit. Mine was to pay more money on the house payment. Having the house paid off was more important than having a cigarette. I quit by not putting one in my mouth and lighting it. If I put one in my mouth now and light it I would just go back to it even if I don-t crave them. If I did it, anybody can do it.
You are welcome. Congratulations and don-t give up. Each time you want a cigarette think about the reasons why you quit. I know I can-t afford to smoke and pay off the house. I don-t want to lose the house. Have a strong goal for yourself and be determined. Good luck.

whats the best product to use to quit smoking thats to expensive and thats actually works??? need help want to quit real bad been smoking for 6yrs thats not that long but i dont want to make it any longer any suggestions plz help!!!!
I-m quitting now too. I-ve smoked for 14 years. I-ve tried ti all and the only thing that works for me is the patch. Go through the WHOLE system. I thought I was strong and quit it in only a week and went back to smoking. Now I-m 3 weeks in w/the patch. Running, power walking, or boxing really helps too. I also put a rubber band on my wrist. Whenever I get an urge, I snap it. And I play with pencils a lot. Remember that an urge will pass. Knowing that was a lifesaver for me. The urge comes and I do something really vigorous for 10 mins and it passes. The longer u resist the urge, the shorter the urges will come. Also taping up all the reasons u want to quit on a piece of paper works. Quit coffee or drinking if that-s when u smoke. And brush ur teeth after a full meal. Altoids everywhere to keep ur mouth moving. Straws, carrot sticks, toothpicks, gum, anything ur mouth can chew. Throw away all the cigaretts. Even the secret stash ones. Keep telling urself that u can-t stand the smell and it-ll trick ur brain. Good luck!
eat oranges when you crave one,
I smoked for 20+ years. For me chantix was the route to stop. 11 days without smoking now, hardly any cravings. No matter what you try, you are still the one to decide whether you can do it or not. It-s all in your head. Be strong. I did not think that I can skip my first morning cigarette with my coffee, or in the car going to work. I used a piece of hard candy or gum before I even got into the car. In the morning I turn on the news now while I have my cup of coffee. With chantix they will check on you daily on the phone or e-mail to see how you are doing. They have a cravings hotline. And lots of motivation. Whenever you start to quit, make sure to tell everyone that you do. Good luck!!!
i didn-t use any products, just chunked my last box out into the trash and told myself that i-m not gonna buy any more... worked for me:)
you have to go to jail.

my ex-husband went to jail for several weeks for something. You cannot smoke in jail. He came out and he didn-t want no more cigerettes. He quit.

If i would have know he would quit from going to jail, i would-ve tried to put him there long ago. lol lol
I use a taser gun on myself when I have cravings. Except for the occasional head injury it seems to be working well.
Just imagine everytime you light a cigarette, you are burning money...
I smoked for almost 5 years when I quit for good. I have been a nonsmoker for almost a year now and I assure you that you will feel like a new person.

I used the patch. I know people complain that they-re really expensive, but isn-t keeping a smoking habit up even more expensive in the long run? Plus the generic brands at places like Walmart usually cost about the same as it would if you were paying for the equivalent number of packs.

I used to hate articles on quiting smoking from psychologists that never even had to kick the habit. So I wrote one myself, from my own experience quitting last summer.

Check it out if you want:

I just recently quit smoking. I failed over and over again till I discovered a secret that the tobacco companies don-t want you to know. If you want to quit smoking you MUST read this:

http://www.squidoo.com/quit-smoking-by-hypnosis/
A lot of the smoking products out there are pretty hefty in price....even though i am a non-smoker, if i were i would go with the gum. It seems like a product that will work the best. I think this site would be of great help to you. Good Luck
There are things called Nicotine patches or gum.
You stick the patches on your arm, and you chew the gum.
There are now nicotine gums available in the market. if you sense the call just chew one.

Does CHantix make you loose weight besides helping to quit smoking? -

Hi,

Avprin helps you loose weight and quit smoking.
Hi,

Great post! Quitting smoking was the hardest thing I-ve ever done in my life, and I thought I wasn-t addicted!

Here-s what I tried before finding success: hypnosis, those fake cigaretts, the nicotine patch, and group therapy....none worked.

I finally tried this HERBAL patch I bought 6 months ago on the net. They claim a 97% success rate. Well, it worked! They had a sweet deal which was a free 10 day trial for only $3.95 including shipping (it-s regularly $53 for 10 days)!!

I don-t know if they still have that deal, but it-s worth a try.

Good Luck
It has not helped me lose weight BUT cold weather is here - I haven-t been able to go on my walks. And the holidays dinners have started already so that hasn-t helped any. I figure I-ll tackle the weight issue after I quit. One thing at a time.

How can you ask somebody to quit smoking? -

of course you can ask them. but they won-t listen. there-s an addiction between them and smoking. you have to undestand that. you mus give them helpful tips and warn them about the suffers from smoking. they may not listen still. but if they do buy all kinds of helpful medications like Nicorette or something. ask a doctor/pharmacist for help on choosing the most helpful ones. but make sure this person knows you are going to be with them ever step of the way. and do not insult them because that is very disrespectful. so just warn them about the risks of diseases and death and all that and be with them and take away all the cigarettes and trash them and watch them to make sure they dont buy anymore. trust me it will help.
im sorry if this doesnt help you on what excatly to say. but these are good ideas of what to say.
STAY ANTI-DRUG!!!
peace
As a smoker there is really nothing anyone could say to get me to quit. Now if my son asks I would listen to him and quit.
You can ask but until that person wants to do it nothing will come of it. It all starts with them.
They have to ownership of their own health and they have to want TO quit and -bag the fag- oops I mean cigarettes.
dont ever say it causes lung cancer, they-re just gonna keep rolling that stuff all day.
They quit if they want to and it is hard but remind them. Their lungs are all black and gross looking, they have a gallon of black gooey tar inside their stomach and they-re lungs are falling apart each time u smoke.

Many people do indeed get their vocal cord taken out and the doctor sreplace a voice box inside their throat [i mean, they cut inside ur throat and pull out ur vocal cord and bput in a tiny box in ur throat which is very painful and u cant talk anymore, so the voice box does it for you and u sound like a robott. Tell him/her when u-ve been smoking for a looong time, you start to lose ur voie each day and that can turn into cancer and u might have to pull the vocal cord outside ur throat. Verrry painful. Show him/her this website

http://www.entusa.com/voice_box_cancer.h…

Just say - can you quit smoking- that-s about as easy as it gets.
tell them you love them and that you don-t want to watch them suffer from all the pain when they develop lung cancer.
You can suggest them not to smoke around you but asking them to quit is pointless because it-s like asking a drug addict to quit drugs. I have asked my boyfriend to quit. He quit for a year then started back up. Now he has the courtesy to atleast smoke when he-s not in the same room with me.
Just say -Quit smoking-
Robert-s got the Best Answer from the three that were there when I decided to answer your question. You can add care and concern to it, or you can just ask them (in a veiled way of telling them) to quit smoking. If you want somebody to quit for your personal well being, asking is too indirect. I was dating a woman who burned a hole in one of my big bath towels as she dried her hands before she came out of the bathroom. I told her I wanted her to buy me a new bath towel to replace that one. She did, AND she later married me and we had (and have) two kids together, ages 21 and 22 now. Being assertive isn-t bad. I love my kids dearly, and her as well. God Bless you.
You can ask them, but it really is up to that person if they want to quit or not.

Quitting Smoking :(
Nicotine Anonymous is a Non-Profit 12 Step Fellowship of men and women helping each other live nicotine-free lives. Nicotine Anonymous welcomes all those seeking freedom from nicotine addiction, including those using cessation programs and nicotine withdrawal aids. The primary purpose of Nicotine Anonymous is to help all those who would like to cease using tobacco and nicotine products in any form. The Fellowship offers group support and recovery using the 12 Steps as adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous to achieve abstinence from nicotine.
stop putting fags in your mouth.

No, seriously, you will probably have to try a couple of times, but the best advice i can give you, is to join a group, they are usually run by the council and are a great help, trying to give up on your own is a nightmare, but with support from others it is a lot easier. I used Zyban when i quit, so it does work for some, but again, your group advisor will go through everything with you.
Cravings only last a few seconds, and once you get past a couple of weeks it just gets easier.

Most important is to dis-associate yourself with the habit, eg, after eating don-t go and stand with friends who smoke, the same goes for when you are out drinking.
For a couple of months, it is better to miss out on a bit of conversation when friends go outside for a smoke, but it will be worth it in the end.

If you do find yourself back on the fags, don-t dispair, leave it a few days then start giving up again.
Stick a post- it on your pc that says. DONT GIVE UP GIVING UP. That will be a constant reminder to yourself.

Good luck.
i-ve swapped cigarettes for role ups, and as you can-t always just take one out at the busstop for example, you tend to smoke less, and get your body to get over it-s cravings, without depriving it.

I-ve done this, and eventually went down to smoking only 2 a day, and then decided I might as well stop, as I am not smoking to satisfy any cravings, but just out of habit. I-ve given up 3 months ago now, and don-t even crave it anymore.
There isn-t an easy way.
Try to pair up with someone else who also wants to give up and find a way of verifying that neither of you breaks the agreement.

Avoid alcohol, cups of coffee and everything else you associate with smoking.

Everyone is different but most people can-t cut down slowly, thinking that you will eventually stop. You have to say -NOW!- and never do it again. Like many other drugs, including heroin, once you have smoked it is easy to start by just smoking a few again. You never ever get the fact that you were hooked out of your system.

I had a friend who sucked on dried fruit whenever he wanted a cigarette. He did give up but he also got very fat :-)
1st you have to be sure you want to quit smoking.
2nd you have to be see yourself as a non smoker
3rd. See yourself in the pub or out for a meal and then see yourself being disgusted at the thought of smoking...

Its all about the way you see yourself, if you see yourself as a smoker then no matter what you do you will still be a smoker...

I learnt to quit from www.easytoquit.co.uk and it really helped me
As other people have said, the only way to give up is to stop altogether. There are lots of products on the market that are supposed to help. Personally I wouldnt bother . I used nicotine chewing gum for several months and found myself chewing 20 a day!! I then decided just to go cold turkey. It was hard for a week or so but I soon got used to it, But, if I-m honest, the one thing that really done the trick for me was seeing my friend die from emphysema, brought on from years of smoking, I-ve been smoke free for 8 years now and just know I will never smoke again.
I quit by being in hospital ICU for a couple of month so depending how you look at it that could be unlucky or lucky lol,
but my friends all quit by taking this medication called champix that was prescribed by the doc and it simply makes you not want to have a cigerret, simple as and it worked sooo yay! good for them
Hey

Just stop buying them. Next time you go to the supermarket don-t go over to the counter where they are, When you pay for your shopping you are at the other checkouts anyway so there is no need to go and get them.

Just don-t buy them.
Stop.......

Im 15 and i need to quit smoking? -

ive been smoking for 3 years. off and on. ive tried cold turkey and it doesnt work at all for me. addiction runs worse in my blood for my great grandparents, grandparents, and parents have all been addicted to something {not just cigs} and that supposedly makes it harder for me, and im also too young for meds. im not sure what to try anymore. ive seen cancer happen and i dont want it, but im just lost on how to quit. please give me advice..
Megan, I did read every word of your question. But you-re not addicted. This is what I see every day: Women find out they-re pregnant; they quit. Men who have smoked 3 packs a day for 30 years find out they have heart disease or lung cancer; they quit.

Please take your cigs, wet them, and throw them all away. Then be proud to say, -I don-t smoke.- It just takes some willpower. I can tell you-re smart, so be strong and get it out of your head that you-re addicted and that it-s in your blood. Be strong and use some willpower. It-s just a habit like biting your fingernails. Chew gum for awhile. You can do it! I know you can! Here-s a star to get you started. Congratulations! :)
tell whoever buys your packs for you to stop. i just turned 17 a few days ago and i started smoking around the same time as you.
i got all my friends into smoking and since they-re all 18 or older, it-s harder for them to stop.
i stopped for a year by doing this:
get all your friends to stop(it-ll influence you to stop as well)
cold turkey will take some time but it-ll save you money.
since my parents know i smoke and i-d say 30% of my relatives smoke have them to punish you every time they catch you lol.
or if your school/community has a -quit smoking- program i-d say you enroll
good luck dude..it-s not too late for you[=
First of all. The person buying you cigarettes needs to be stopped, prosecuted, and thrown in jail with maximum fines for buying a child your age cigarettes!!!!!!

I know that in Texas the age for cigarettes is 18. In most other American states its 21!

Second, there are prescription medications for the cessation of smoking. There are herbal remedies available in tablet form at Walgreens as well.

Check the local papers, or search for -Stop smoking study- in your area to see who is conducting a study to help you stop. 9x out of 10 these are free and include study related medication and other help.
Yeah, unfortunately some stop smoking meds don-t seem to work in kids. One possibility is cutting down gradually on the amount you smoke. Keep a record of every one and dial back. You might also benefit from hypnosis. And support groups increase the rate of quitting. If none of these work, well, you can go on meds when you-re 18. That-s soon enough to avoid the most serious risk.
You-re on the right track by just wanting to quit. I suggest seeing your doctor for some options. It might be weird to tell them about this, but it-ll definitely be worth it. They know you uniquely and will be able to tell you what-ll be the best method for you to quit, whether it-s something as simple as chewing gum or something more drastic.
The times that you are likely to smoke you need to replace with another activity that will occupy your time and mind. Good luck, stay strong and maybe try slowly quitting? Good for you for doing this. The longer you smoke the harder it will be to quit.
gum, and lots of things to keep you busy. the best way to cut an addiction is to replace it with another one. try taking up a hobby of some sort. possibly something with your hands till you can kick the habbit.
Three years? Try ten. I quit cold turkey because I wanted to. You obviously don-t want to hard enough.

Pick up a new hobby. Go running (this will teach you a lesson right off the bat). Keep yourself busy.
Well think about this, The longer you continue the more you will suffer.
u r too young to smoke ,nd to quit u ve to ve ur family nd friends support,go to a doctor,nd believe in yourself...
Just ran out from the home, empty your pocket, and search for bread
idk cuz im only 13 but at least im going to be smart in my life and not get into that.
Try nicotine patches or Smoke Out! programs. Or see your doctor
yes u should because u will die early

How did you quit smoking? -

I-ve tried cold turkey a few times...and failed. I was wondering how others beat the habit
Went cold turkey but I had a strong incentive. Soon as my wife became pregnant I stopped smoking and haven-t smoked since in the last 7 years.
Chantix works, and I used a few herbal formulas to deal with anxiety, etc.... I just took it and kept smoking, it kicked in after about two and a half MONTHS, and I just didnt want one any more... a year 1/2 later, still dont want one.... smoked over 40 years... amazing
for herbal formulas look up seven forests, white tiger
I started by not liking the way it smelled or looked and how it made my daughter feel to think that I might smoke. I started programming my mind to hate it and i eventually did. Once I realized I have that self control then it all got easier, I even had a cig just because i was bored and i knew i could and i didnt like it very much. Thats the thing too. Know that you can have one, some people I know even kept packs around just to make them feel better you carry the pack around, then eventually you dont need it. Well just some ideas. Just remember its ok to be grumpy and sick and everyone will just have to understand. Good luck friend
I used the patch. Just came off of it. The first couple of days without the patch were excrutiating. Doing a bit better now.

For me what decided it was this economy, and that I would either be able to afford cigarettes or groceries. I chose groceries (grudgingly).

Good luck to you!
