Has anyone else quit smoking years ago but still craves cigarettes (nicotine!) all the time? -

I sometimes still crave a cigarette, even though I quit a few years ago... anyone else? why are cigarettes so freakin- good?
I quit like 2 years ago from ciggs ! And everytime i-m stressed or sick all i want is a freakin ciggarette !
i-ve never smoked, but i have a cousin who-s quit, and she says she craves sometimes. its because you-re brain is so used to the nicotine, that it feels it constantly need more. i bet it also depends how long you smoked and how much nicotine you had in your system every day. you can try patches instead of cigarettes, though.
I know what you mean. I smoked for twenty years and in the beginning I loved it but then it became just habit and my clothes and car stunk. I quit 6 years ago and I feel great. Hey, it does get easier every day that you don-t smoke it gets better. I still like the smell of a cigerette but luckily and hopefully I never smoke again. But I do know where you are coming from MJ. Don-t do it.
I started smoking when i was 13 now im 22. i quit for the second time in my life a month ago. i dont have that much cravings at all the last time i quit was 3 years ago for seven days i didnt smoke and i gained 10 lbs!

this time its different i dont know why but im really not having any cravings ever im just sick of cigs i think there nasty!

How long does weed stay in your system after you have quit smoking? -

If you are worried about a drug test then give yourself 30 days from the last time you smoked to be absolutely sure that it won-t show up on a urine test. Urine tests are the most common and cheapest.

Detection Period in Urine:
Single Use : 1-6 days
Weekly Use : 3-9 days
Daily Use : 7-30 days

Like I said before: To be absolutely sure, give yourself 30 days if possible, but if those two times were the first times in a few weeks or months then you might be fine.

Hair follicle tests are pretty uncommon, even government agencies typically only use urine tests. Hair tests generally take the most recent 1.5 inches of growth and use those for testing. That provides a detection period of about 90 days. If your hair is shorter than 1.5 inches, the detection period will be shorter.

As far as staying in your system, it-s out of your blood in about 2-3 days after use in an infrequent user. Frequent use can be detected in the blood for about 2 weeks. Though, unless the blood work you spoke of is specifically for drug testing then you have nothing to worry about; they don-t go randomly hunting for weed on regular blood work.

Some things you can try that aren-t really proven are drinking lots of water, drinking lots of cranberry juice, and avoiding sodas. No guarantees that they will help, but they are cheap enough to try and might make you feel better than just sitting around biting your nails. =)
i havent smoked weed in almost 2 mths now and it is still my system.since feb26 08 i only smoked 3 times and the the last time was almost 2 mth ago people dont beleave that i dont smoke anymore because its still in my system to this day anyone know a expert on marijuana about still being in system

About a month sweet cheeks. =]
Depends on how much you smoke daily. It stays in your fat cells also.. On average though it stays in for about 30 days.
About 30 days.
My friends would stop smoking about 2 to 3 weeks before the drug test. So I am guessing it stays in your system awhile. If your taking a random urine test I know my sister used to put a little bleach into it. ha dumb a** our father could tell she had messed with it! If it is a hair follicle test... I had a friends dad who was in a custody battle to get his kids... he shaved his ENTIRE body on the court day, head, eye brows, everything. It was hilarious. I mean come on.. if that doesn-t give you away!
average 3 weeks
About 21 days.
Depends on how heavy a smoker you were.

Casual =3 to 5 joints a week. about 4 to 7 days
Heavy =7 to 10 joints a week about 7 to 14 days
Chronic = 3 to 5 joints a day about 28 days.
One time I smoked and then drank a lot of water and rasberry juice for a week and passed =]

How can make my dad quit smoking? -

He has been smoking since he was about 25 and he is 40 now. I really want him to stay healthy and I am embarrassed when he smokes haround my friends. He smokes in the car and we breathe it in. He is a really nice guy , not like some gangster or something. I tried writing him a note explaining that I don-t want to worry about him, or my family who is also breathing it in. he also smokes in the basement, his office, and it seeps throuh are old floors.please help. Nothing too fancy though.
You can-t make him quit. What you can do is make him feel guilty for polluting you and your friends lungs. Tel him you want him to be around when you get married, have kids, etc.
it will be very hard to make him quit, even though he knows what the consequences of smoking are,all i can say is tell him to try and quit since its affecting your health, and there are some ways to help quit smoking, look that up,hope i helped

How can i get rid of the tierdness after quit smoking? -

Usually, your body is starting to get used to not smoking again within a month.

This should make you feel less tired already. If it is making you more tired than when you were smoking, you should see a doctor.

Slowly picking up working out will be good too. Have a long term goal. For instance, expect to be a changed person in 6-12 months. Don-t expect miracles before the end of the year.

Have you quit smoking? -

I don-t know what-s wrong with me but ive tried in the past before and could never do it.Ten days ago I woke up and decided to quit cold turkey.I really think something is wrong because I haven-t got moody or had any cravings for cigarettes. And before you ask yes i did really quit and It was 10 days ago.
Can anyone explain why it-s worked this time and never before?
I TRIED 13, THAT-S RIGHT, 13 TIMES BEFORE IT WORKED AND I STILL DON-T KNOW WHY IT WORKED THE LAST TIME.....I WENT COLD TURKEY....I GUESS I WAS JUST READY.GOOD LUCK, STAY STRONG.
I quit cold turkey too without telling anybody, my family and friends nagged and pleaded with me for years to quit and nobody even noticed I-d quit until I told them. They were stunned to say the least as I-d tried to quit before using acupuncture, without much success but this time I just decided to quit and didn-t suffer any withdrawal symptoms or mood-swings. Even though I was heavy smoker ~ I had a 40 cigarette a day habit ( that-s how viewed myself a nicotine addict which helped me quit) didn-t use chewing gum or patches I just decided I was going to be a non-smoker, just using willpower and determination. I think you need to want to quit ~ to quit ~ whether it-s consciously or unconsciously. GOOD LUCK I-ve stopped for six years and have never been tempted to smoke again.
yes, I can! I have struggled to quit for 6 years. I was successful a few times for a month or 2 and then I would go back to smoking in even greater extent. In July 06, even when my life was quite stressful, I woke up one day and felt nauseaus at the idea of nicotine entering my body.
6 months later, I am still nicotine free and I don-t miss it the least.
I think it-s either that my body just rejected the cigarette as it was doing what it had to do for survival, or I was so scared about cancer that I just quit cold turkey. And when a few days had passed and I felt so great about breathing better already, not having smoker-s breath and saving the money I was spending on 3 packs a day, then I was happy and wanted to go on. It-s not as difficult as it had been before because I was ready to be a healthy person. Noone forced me into quitting, so I felt in control.
Nothing is wrong, it-s your body and mind working together to save you from what you know would have been detrimental to your health.
i smoked my last cigarrette outside the hospitol before they informed me i had just had a heart attack. i have not smoked since...and that was just over a year ago.
they reckon giving up smoking is harder than giving up cocaine.
Its real hard i know but concentrate on the health benefits, shiny hair, nice skin, eat loads of fruit, drink water, try to relax and don,t worry. You are less liable to get cancer. I have faith in you you can do it, ask God for help. He loves you dearly. He is your comfort.
I smoked 60 to 80 a day and one day I decided it was crazy so I packed it in there and then and have never smoked since.
Probably because you were ready AND really wanted to quit. Good luck!
no idea give me the secret
I decided to stop one day and just stopped. It took no effort at all. I don-t think I was addicted to it.
If I was you I would just be happy this time things are going well.
I stopped for 6months,over 1year, and went back to it for several
months. This time I-ve been off for 3 months, but again have just started to 2-3 a day.If I-m given one i keep it and make rolls when i get home.Your question made me think i,or we are past the stage of wanting a smoke. But not confident in our (or my)self,so
continue to test ones will power by smoking the odd one.I normally when i get to this buy some and stop again. This time I-m
not going to.Hope you,me and everyone stops if they want. After
all.No smoking in public next year(we-ll have a start on some)
its all about WANTING to quit and changing the situations you put urself in.

i enjoy smoking and its involved in my routine.

WELL DONE! you have achieved that which many crave for.

Hi,yes I gave up just over 3 weeks ago,I did it with Allen Carrs easy way to stop smoking.

I cant believe how easy its been,I read the book and havent had a ciggie since,no withdrawals and no cravings,he has a 53% success rate.

He doesnt believe in nicotine replacement because it only takes 48 hrs to get rid of nicotine out of your body.

You can smoke all the time your reading the book.
Good for you.I stopped 5 years ago but i needed the patches and ive still stopped. so keep it up.If you are determined then you will succeed its all down to will power. If you have heard the news then you will know that from 1st july next year you cant smoke in public.
It-s real obvious. You don-t feel like dieing.
GOOD JOB DUDE KEEP IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I quit on the 6th of July. I picked the day because it was a. payday b. the start of my hubbys shifts at work(so we wouldnt be in each other faces) c. it had to be after my 4th of July party and d. my new years resolution had been to quit this year before my birthday, because it was the tenth id have since i started smoking.

Now, I am a hugely weak person, when it comes to these things. I was a total smoke-aholic, if i didnt have ciggies Id go mental. Tears and all.

So the first day, I wigged out. But I was not turning back. I screamed at my kids. I screamed at the neighbor kids. I rolled up into the foetal position under the duvet in bed. I cried. I bought some smokes and threw them over a wall. And the next day, the same, and then again. But on day four, I had an epiphany. I still craved a cig-but I was no longer going to smoke. **** it. Bring on the pain.

I think if we-re lucky in life, we sometimes have brief moments of clarity. Why dont non-smokers smoke? Cuz its gross. And unhealthy. And expensive. All it takes is for a smoker to realize this. And use mind over matter, to make the change. Its not so much giving up smoking, as it is giving up stupidity. And weakness. And thats not hard, or at least it shouldnt be.

I think its society-s fault as a whole, that people still smoke. They provide all the crutches, patches, inhalors, gums, counselling. Stop holding peoples hands. Stop giving people excuses, we-re most of us big enough martrys as it is.

You, my friend, have been enlightened. Its a subtle change, you probably didnt notice it happening. Congratulations.
Hey... That-s excellent well done!!! and keep it up. I have not smoked for 5 months now....i just decided to quit and like you have had no moodiness and no real cravings occassionally i think i could just smoke a cigarette then it goes away without a second thought.

Well done again
Good for you. I decided I was going to stop and gave myself a time limit - like no smoking before next Friday. I suddenly realised it was Sunday and I didn-t want one, Believe your mind, it can do what all these patches and hypnotism can-t
First of all Congratulations and well done for giving up. The next challenge is to stay a quitter for the rest of the year and hopefully never smoke again for the rest of your life.
Don-t waste your energy worrying about why you are not withdrawing. It could be a host of reasons depending on the number of cigarettes you smoked daily, the number of years you have been smoking, the brand of cigarette, if you smoke drugs, the company you keep and your mental state.
Ask again when you relapse and I hope you don-t. I went cold turkey fourth attempt after smoking for 20 years, nicotine, drugs and everything I could get my hands on! Now I help others to quit. If I can do it, then anyone can.
Good luck and stay healthy!
Because your really ready. And yes, I quit back in February with the help of Wellbutrin for one month, and haven-t craved one since.

Quit Smoking? -

I began smoking when I was 12 years old, I am now 17 and I haven-t smoked for one week today. I have avoided any social situations where I was more prone to give in to my filthy adictive urges and I was just wondering if I should continue to avoid these potential hazardous situations in order to quit or wether I should just face them and try not to smoke, because I am worried that if i continue to avoid them, I may never be able to face them without smoking...
Hi Joshua , I-m in the same boat as you only I-m 54 - have been smoking for 40 of those years . Do yourself and your family a big favor - do whatever it takes , including staying out of situations that make you want to smoke . I-ve done the same thing - find it helps tremendously . The patch helps alot , but then your just putting the nicotine back in your system . I-m having a real problem with just the habit of lighting up , holding it , the whole ritual it entails . I was down to three a day , which was 100 less a week than I was smoking . I-m back up to ten a day which is still an improvement , but I-m disappointed in myself . Oh yea , I have COPD ( chronic obstuctive pulmonary disease ) from smoking . I-ve just started a support group on Yahoo ( DoOrDieNow ) if you want to join . I know I can use all the help - support I can get . I want to see my grandchildren get married . At this rate I won-t , but I-m not giving up ! Keep trying Joshua . Good luck !
It-s only been a week! Give your self a break and avoid those social situations for 2-3 more weeks. The worst of it should be over by then and you will be better able to deal with other smokers.

Good luck to you.
In order to quit on your own, you have to be very strong willed, determined and self disciplined. To help matters, avoid the things that make you want to smoke, like after meal with coffee. Socialize with your friends but concentrate on doing something with your hands rather than grab a cigarette and chew gum, smoke a brand you don-t like. Do it gradually.

I-ve been smoking for 30 years, don-t plan to quit, but only smoking 1/2 pack a day. Quit once on my own for 2 years, but since nothing is being done about the air polution, the cancer agents in water and in our food, the crime, etc. I went back to it. I gained weight then which I lost. More deaths are caused from obesity than smoking.

Cut back in moderation and slowly wean yourself off of it. Smoke only around your smoking friends and when your out in clubs. Dont give up your social life because of it; some thing else may get you....which means you may have given up smoking - your friends for nothing. Enjoy life and do what you want.........here today and gone tomorrow. Good chance it wont be because of the smoking.
well like i started smoking(more like crack) when i was 8 since my older bros did it and i was always around it....once i turned 13 and got raped couple months later had a kid i knew i had to stop ...if i could stop for like 10 years(im 18) than you can do it yea i had to give up some of my friends but they were causing me in to much trouble plus i started getting sick which lead to H.I.V for me and Fibromyalgia so i would say stop for your own sake of life
Good...But 12 yrs. old..Isnt that young??Good 4 u that u stop smoking
don-t avoid them. thats my advice. you should face your fear. thats what everybody says. if you always avoid these temptations without even trying, you won-t last a second in the outside world. face it, nowadays socializing is as important as getting a degree. still, its easier said than done. but if you manage to stop smoking facing the challenge, thats a very big achievement already.
crack? don-t have a clue on that one. cigs? the cleansing period for an addition is 28 days, then it-s psychological/physical. you have habits when you smoke, after eating, after sex, etc. break these habits as you break the smoke habit and you should be mostly in the clear, whether or not you-re around others who smoke. the mental addition to want to will hang around longer, but try to fight it, because if you give in...you-ll go back to smoking.

Whats the best way to quit smoking? -

There is a new prescription medication called -Chantix-. I started it two weeks ago and haven-t touched a cigarette in 12 days. I haven-t wanted to, really, either.
There are moments I wished I had a cigarette, but the urge is truly momentary and not nearly of the intensity of wanting one while I was smoking.
My doctor said he prescribed it to a 3 pack per day smoker, and the patient was a non-smoker after only two weeks. I believe it---this stuff is AMAZING!!!!!
There is a lot of products I used nicocure which is an all natural patch and it does not use nicotine and is helped with my jitters and withdraw.
COLD TURKEY.

I did it a month ago. No patch. No gum. No B.S.
I just stopped.

Nicotine withdrawal lasted only 2 days. The hardest thing to get over is the oral fixation.

Just stop.
Zyban or the -patch-. But, you have to also have the will to quit.
Just do it! ;)
Unfortunately, I wish it was that easy.
I tried Welbutrin at the advice of two girlfriends who succeeded using it short-term. It made me absolutely crazy, literally within three days I was psycho.
I-ve also tried the -cutting down- method, but really believe that cold turkey would be more effective because I only cut down so far.
I worked with a gal that went through hypnosis three years ago. She-s been smoke free ever since.
I-ve also heard that acupuncture works, but don-t know anyone first hand that has tried it.
From biology classes I-ve learned that the physical addiction only lasts three days. So in that regard, if you can make it three days, you-re doing great.
However, psychology shows that a nicotine addiction is as gripping and complex as a heroin addiction. Quitting is so much tougher than non-smokers will ever be able to comprehend.
My suggestions would be to form a support group, tell everyone you need and want help.
Buy some gum and suckers or sunflower seeds to appease the oral fixation. Maybe even toothpicks or a straw to stick in your mouth.
Additionally, since nicotine is such an addictive drug, consider purchasing nicotine gum or lozenges.
Regardless of the method, you will not be successful until you convince yourself that it is time, that you are done, and then you will be done.
Good luck! You can do it!
First things first. You gotta wanna. sounds silly, but if you do it for anybody but yourself and you-ll fail. Before I quit, I couldn-t do it for my future wife, freinds or the military. Tried in college with medication, and it will kill the craving, but you wanting to quit is the true support. When I was ready, I dropped it. Period. Two years free after ~12 years of smoking.

Do you think that it is important to quit smoking or not. explain why? -

Do you think that it is important to quit smoking or not. explain why? -

The risk or occurrence of any of the following is only slightly increased by smoking (just to name a few):

Lung cancer (3+ types)
Esophogeal cancer (3 types)
Stomach cancer (3 types)
Eyesight degeneration (2 types)
Heart Disease (many types)
Emphysema
Asthma
Circulatory problems
Bad Breath
Hearing loss
Nicotine addiction
SIDs (Sudden infant death syndrome)
Low birth weight
Brain damage(Carbon Monoxide kills brain cells)
GI disorders (Gastro intestinal)
Reduced or zero fitness
Shortened lifespan (approximately 7 minutes per cigarette smoked).

It-s a numbers game. Its up to you how long you want want to play. One thing is certain, the numbers will catch up to you if you don-t quit.
Depends if you have kds or not. If you have kids it is probably worth quiting so they don-t have to sit over your death bed crying when your 50 wondering why you were so selfish. If you don-t then you might as well keep smoking so you can help pay more taxes for ppl with familys. Plus you will die sooner and that will help keep our population down.
I can-t give a yes or no, cause I need that answerd myself.
I smoked for about 4 years. Some days I only had a few, some days i had maybe more then 1/2 a pack. For the last 2 years I smoked those rolled filterless cigs.

I quit for about a 6month time frame. Started again due to a bad mood, and stayed smoking just because of habit.

I-m gonna get kicked for this, but I never noticed my breathing being any different.

The only thing was that i stunck horribly.

I actually just -quit- again a few hours ago, and want one so bad right now i feel like breaking something.

Some people of course get the health problems, but I either didnt or just havent found them yet. (note: I also dont see the doctor so i could be dying away as we speak and not even know it)

The only benifit I see from quitting (so far) is the smell.

If it didnt smell bad, i-d be on my porch right now.

And i-ll answer the rest after i get my doctor check-up

----My grandpa smoked in the past (not sure for how long or how long ago he quit) he-s been healthy all his life, used to go to the gym at age 65. Now, he-s had a few heart surgerys and one of his lungs collapsed and now he sits in a chair on a oxygen tube. And he-ll be in that chair until he dies.
--But he was perfectly healthy, and he did quit and stayed healthy. the heart and lung thing just came suddently. Maybe it was related, maybe not.

---My mom smoked since she was 16-42ish. She has no known problems.

---Me, that 6mo stoppage, cause i had a boyfriend. Guess what my bad mood and smoking faze caused?
Lost my love. i-d have rather lost some lung capacity.
Yeah if you smoke you should quit. Smoking restricts blood flow and causes high blood pressure because it causes capillaries stress. The lungs are damaged of course but so is the heart muscle. The skin is dry the mouths defenses are weakened and hair and nails are affected in an unattractive way.

COPD, CHF, HF are just a few of the irreversible diseases that are caused by smoking. Look up the symptoms if you-re curious.

Along with all of that mess it smells and cost a lot of money. Now that thats said I-m gonna go smoke a cigarette myself.
Can you run upstairs, run after a bus, pick up a baby. If the answer is yes ask yourself how it would feel to have to go upstairs one step at a time pausing for breath. Forget the bus you just missed it. As for the baby I just might manage to lift it . That is all the life I have left, my lungs are useless and smoking did that. I stopped last year forty years too late. Someone said we all die anyway. There are times I look forward to it believe me.
It is a good thing to quit smoking, smoking is bad for your health, it increases risk of lung cancer for you and all around you and creates an addiction to nicotine, can cause issues if you are pregnant, the list goes on and on.
i really don-t know. for example.. italy has the highest percentages of smokers per capita and they also have the lowest cancer rate per capita.

but for your overall health, you really should quit. but just looking at the cancer side of it..
Of course it-s important to quit smoking. I wish I had years ago. I-ve been smoking for 50 years and have tons of health issues that are related to this addiction, including the fact that I can hardly walk anymore.
As long as your younger then 30 your lungs will almost completly heal from all damages done from smoking a couple years after you quit,
so you should quit before your addicted, but if you can-t aslong as you quit before your 30 you pose little health problems
yes, it will make you a lot less healthy. unless you-re about to die anyways... then what does it matter if you-re -healthy- or not, lol.
yes it is. you should stop before you have to take durastic actions.
We all die eventually anyways...
NO NOT AT ALL
