What is the best way to quit smoking? -

im thinking nicotrol - expensive from what i hear
dont tell me cold turkey
I have smoked for 30 years and 3 months ago i quit. I bought the prescription Chantix. It was the only thing that has ever worked for me. No matter which way you go, you have to really want to quit. I am telling you right now, the sooner you quit the better. The longer you smoke the harder it gets to quit. Just don-t turn into one of those ex smokers who trash people who smoke!!! Hope this helps. Good Luck!!!
Chantix work well , but some people have trouble sleeping while taking the medication.
There is also a clinic that is nation wide that offers a shot behind the ear, the 4 people i know that have used that method have done well and quit.
The patch or gum only work if you have strong will power.
There is something that looks like a cigarette. But it does not have any chemicals and dangerous things in it. It is a placebo. Some people purposely chew something like gum or suck sweets or anything in their mouth to stop their craving for cigarettes. Then religion or motivational talks or hypnosis.
chantix I seen doctors us that a lot. here the web page . http://www.chantix.com/
Anyone I-ve ever known has quit cold turkey. It-s free.

I am embarassed to admit that over the past few years I have picked up smoking! I hate it!!

gradually it has just gotten to be more... and more.. I think I have been in total denial that I even WAS a smoker until recently.
And after coming to terms with it.. I don-t like it.

So. Today. Jan 1 2008 I resolve to quit.

any advice for me on my New Years Quest?

When you get down to your last 6 in the packet then stop, don-t throw them away because panic attack can set in when you know you have none.Keep telling yourself they are there just in case you get desperate, i did that for 6 months before i had the guts to throw them away for good. Best move i have ever made they are a disgusting habit and very hard to get rid of, my coughing got worse after i gave them up until my system cleared all the tar out, yuk!
Good luck with it.
hey I quit today too- but I got a script of Chantix from my doc and it lessens the craving for the nicotine. Thing that I find disturbing is I feel very out of sorts and very tired too!
See if you can get this script, try it out and see what it does for ya, GOOD LUCK!!
Very tuff. Nicotine is really one of the most addictive chemicals, and the tobacco companies have made sure that you become addicted fast!!!

There are lots of things out there that really work, patches, support groups, some new meds. I think the thing that helped me the most was to sit across from a colleague and watch her as he became out of breath every time she laughed. And the sound of mucus bubbling in her lungs too.... and I thought to myself, OMG, that could be me in 30 years. I found every piece of photography I could that was showing what smoking did to my lungs....EVERYTHING!!!

Some of the things I used: No coffee in the morning, when a cig. was really great, brushed my teeth as soon as I ate, no wine, cuz cigs are great with wine, and I kept the image of that lady in my mind. I also out of curiosity went to one of the hospitals and asked to see a cancerous lung after a surgery where it was removed. (If you have a friend who is a nurse, maybe she can get you in).

I was truly a dedicated smoker... had 7 smoked before I even got out of bed in the morning, and smoked 3 packs a day. Sweetie, if I can do it, you can too.

Good luck, hon, you can do it. It is one gross habit.
the easiest thign to do is to read this book
it helped over millions of ppl to stop smoking
it helped ashton kutcher lol
and my history teacher as well
the name is -the easy way to stop smoking- and the author is Alan Carr
its pretty easy u jsut ahve to read it and it helps
i think its betetr than using some patches or medicine
and if u dont like reading then jsut like make a sacrifice adn read this one book
my advise is you must create a new hobby.
Congratulations for making the decision! I treat smokers and for the majority smoking is an addiction, which is not recognised by mainstream -quit smoking- methods. Firstly note that it is NOT a nicotine addiction! Don-t waste your money on NRT. Secondly, the habit is easily knocked over by steadfast intention because it was created by repetition and the setting up of a -trigger-! Ultimately it is your unconscious mind belief system being triggered, possibly by a chemical in the cigarette such as chocolate or cinnamon. Or from a deep memory of someone you idolised as a child, and seeing them smoke at the age you now are. Do a search on the name Peter Zapfella.
ive quite to today and so far i dont want one because its all in ur mind
u have to do things to keep u busy anu sud eat candy suck on a lolly pop ect
Learn to identify the triggers for smoking and then find something else to do, this will short circuit the cravings. Do not replace one drug habit with another.
Good for you and best of luck! Here-s how I quit:

Wean yourself off of them (ie 10 today, 9 tomorrow, 8 the next day and so on).

If that doesn-t work, go visit the chemotherapy ward at your local hospital. I decided to quit when I started taking my father to his treatments. Really makes you think about those warning labels on the sides of cigarette packages when you see people hooked up to IVs for hours, losing their hair, etc. (not that all people who develop cancer were smokers).

More money due to not spending in on cigarettes.
Breath, hair, and clothes smell better.
Ability to walk a flight of stars, jog or even run.
Annoying phlegmy cough disappears.
Lower blood pressure.
Lower chance of heart disease.
I hadn-t smoked for a year. I got extreme stress one weekend and smoked a pack daily for 3 or 4 days. At first no prob except I felt like I was wasting my money on nothing. Then my throat swelled close and I couldn-t talk for 3 or 4 days and when I had to I sounded ready to die. I also felt a lot of pain. I felt the tormented need to smoke and when I did I felt like I was swallowing coals.

Haven-t smoked again for a couple weeks, my skin is dewey and nice, I have energy, less headaches, and I am in a better mood, having to face my moods without focusing on the cigarette.
I weened off cigs with Quest Cigarettes which helped a lot for me. I was irratable for weeks and had a few headaches.

Tried to consciously breathe when I got really stressed and wanted a cigarette desperately. That worked REALLY well for me.

Started to walk and workout which got a lot easier the longer I quit. I used gum, Twizzlers, and cinnamon sticks to curb my oral fixation.
I am quitting smoking cold turkey since 4-15 after over 30 years one pack a day of smoking. Here are some side effects or withdrawal symptoms that I have or had,

-Heart palpitations
-Few diarrhea
-Night sweats and mild insomnia
-Tingling/numbness in feet and legs
-Tight chest, dry mouth and few phlegm
-Anxiety...
i have been smoke-free for about 8 months now. Honestly after the first couple days, it was pretty easy(a little more irritable) although i did have craving at certain times, but it was more habit (IE driving home, after work, etc.) after about 3 weeks , i hit a point where the next week i was definetly craving them, and aftre that i was fine. hang tough!
After 48 hours of not smokeing your sense of tase and smell get imidiately better, you have more energy as your lungs function better.. your metabolism is increased as well... You lose the foul smoke odor, and you become less iratable.

I need a good gift idea for my mom, she just quit smoking! and joined weight watchers... any ideas? -

im really proud of her, but i am only a teenager, and only working a minimum wage job. i cant afford much. for christmas i want to get my mom something she can use, maybe something tieing into the weight watcher and her quitting smoking. (p.s shes lost 13 lbs :-D)
When I saw your question my first thought was: a new, flattering outfit! But I know that a whole outfit can be expensive, so maybe that-s not the best idea. Say -good job- from me! I-m so proud of all the healthy changes she-s been making! And you sound like you-re being such a supportive, loving daughter...bless you both!
get her a T-shirt for weight watchers, that will reflect the 13lbs that she has lost.(her size now) maybe you can get something printed on it.
To stop smoking: TARBLOCKS. My mom uses them and within a week I believe it was, we all noticed a big difference. Her breath smelt less like a rotten ashtray, she finds herself with more breath and isn-t worn out so easily as previously. TARBLOCKS usually run about $2 but they are seriously worth it.

To loose weight, Slimfast Optima. It-s helping me a lot.
sad to say this.. but i dont think she wud last the distnce... i am not pesimestic, but lots of pple barely make it thru 5months without the addiction re-0curing.
what i wud advice u is to stand by her when she starts failing.. b strong, supportive and yet VERY FIRM. take the cigarettes away, make her life uneasy if she eats too much, den smile n say u did it 4 her good.
a time comes wen we have to mother our own mothers.

buy her a simple gift...or a book.. wit pictures about the subject of struggles... something educative and relaxing
gift certificate for her fav clothing store, she-s gonna need new clothes, and dont forget to constantly congratulate her on the new decisions in her life as well as her new life becoming. It-s very important to keep it on track, your very lucky to have a mother so concerned with life!
I-m sure anything would be much appreciated, but you could get her something with an inspirational saying on it, and let her know how proud you are of her and it will help give her a boost when the going gets tough. Maybe a massage or something also would be nice. You can get a gift certificate for that, and they run about $30-$50. Or, get her a membership to the Y in your area. Maybe a dual one and you can work out with her! Good luck
how bout a subscription to a weight watchers / shape type of magazine. or any inspirational magazine - they have those great -real life stories- in them - about other women that have achieved great things like your mom. that might inspire her to keep it up! and you get good deals on mag subscriptions at this time of year.
My mom has been doing great also with losing weight. She said her main reward is to go shopping..so maybe a gift card to her favorite store will help. She can buy herself new clothes. Or try spa time for you and her together. My mom and I did that and it was wonderful.
I would say don-t get anything related to either of those things- let her know you-re happy for her, but that she-s not doing it for you. her success is her own and she will feel as if she has disappointed you if she gains the weight back and starts back smoking. k, sorry for the psych stuff... does she have a favorite perfume? a new purse is always fun, too
gym membership. especially around the holidays, health fitness clubs usually give a great deal on memberships.
buy her a nice hand bag.my daugther just bought me one and i love it.
I need a good gift idea for my mom, she just quit smoking! and joined weight watchers... any ideas? -

Quit smoking 2yrs ago yesterday i took a hit of a joint will it show in drug test in 20 hours if i drink water -

2 years of not smoking 1 small hit just to taste it will it show up in a dot urine after drinking 2 gallons of water
Does it really matter if it shows?
Are you going for a job interview?
Is the test to see if you-re drug free to see if you-ll be accepted into an organization or group?

Now, the real answer is that it should not show up. Because you can get the same ammount from foods and vitamins.

Multi-vitamins - if you see the ingredients there are many crap in it and one is Nicotine. So what are you worried about smoking a single cigarette?

One way to expell the drugs is to do a lot of exercises to sweat the toxins out of the body.
probably. that much water will just shut down your kidneys and you will just start passing the water straight through into your urine causing you to urinate pretty much straight water. sounds good right? guess again. if not enough of your bodys minerals and other stuff thats commonly found in urine are present the sample will be labeled inconclusive and is usually sent to a lab for further testing. try giving them a taste test. it will have approximately the same result with possibly a little satisfaction on your part.
i think it might because i was dirty on a test.
i didnt smoke, i just got contact high.
so it might. so drink as much water as possible!
buy the tea from planet k..it works.
most of the time anyways...
No it should not show because my stepdad has to do that for his drug tests. He also drinks this really nasty juice stuff though.
yes i think it will, but maybe a little show wont affect them

What Is The Most Effective Way To Quit Smoking? -

What Is The Most Effective Way To Quit Smoking? -

best answer gets 10 points...I really need some serious advice...I appreciate it, Thanks so much in advance : )
Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Once you deal with the psychological side of smoking it makes the quitting process easy, no matter your level of addiction.

Quitting smoking does not require any patches, gums, herbs or anything like that. These methods are expensive, time consuming and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Visit our site to join our inspirational 12 day e-course. You can also download our free book -36 Powerful Superfoods- to help fight weight gain and start mending damage caused by smoking.

Good Luck and Good Quitting
Honestly you have to truly in your heart want to quit! It took me three, no four times to quit. First off you have to change your habits, when you tend to smoke more ( mine was talking on the phone, driving, drinking tea and coffee etc) I used the patch my first and last time quitting and I-ve finally quit for 31/2 yrs now. I found that pills didn-t work for me at all, bad side effects:( and that I could control the side effects of the patch by cutting it in half. When you do decide to quit and have a plan you might have to stay away from smokers for a while, too much temptation!
Oh ps: I always had an orange flavoured candy around(something about orange really helped me) they seemed to last until the urge was over!
Good Luck!
Go to your doctor, there are new prescription medications that can help. Basically how they work is they keep your brain stimulated in the same way nicotine does. So when you have a cigarette, there-s absolutely no pay off. Coupled with your desire to quit, it-ll have you off cigarettes without turning into a raging beast having nic-fits :)
i hope this works better for you.i am a lost cause. started smoking heavily at age 9. i quit for a month when i was 19, and haven-t been able to ever since i started again.cut down to a bare minimum and cut out 1 every coule of day. buy a brand you don-t like for me it was american menthols. you will find it easier if you quit drinking for a month 2, the temptation is greater when you drink. rewad yourself with the money you save. i heard that nibbling on carrots, or apples helps relieve the uurge, i smoke less when i eat these.try and get a friend to quit at the same time, you will have someone to talk to that can relate. goo luck.
Start by cutting back a little at a time. Then a week later cut back some more. This works better than cold turkey. Those who quit cold turkey are more likely to start up again because they miss it so much. They took themselves off so fast, that they drive themselves crazy. Wanting and wanting. So crazy they start up again. By cutting back, you ween off at your own pace.
There is no easiest way.. well get pregnant, I didn-t smoke when I was pregnant and quite honestly... I didn-t crave it b/c I was so sick...haha. (not really funny, but you know... ) NOW i did start back up but have been successful for about 2 months now. Give or take...
You know, it helps to have someone to talk to and is supportive...
Yes it does. Even if you don-t have somone to talk to... I mean, I-m sure they have a freakin crisis line or something... b/c it is that seriuous! lol....
But I am a *****... and I have gained 15 pounds...haha. You don-t have to gain weight...but you know, its much easier too when you don-t have the cig. I should try gum or something rather than chocolate ;)
In time it will get better I am sure. The hardest times are the times when you feel like crap and you are salivating for one of those things... you-ve just got to focus...Or have a cry...lol.
Going to have to learn to cope with things without the help of the nicotine... Not impossible but not a piece of cake so don-t expect there to be an easy magic way... or you-ll let urself down and say **** it, i-ma have a smoke... =). I think about really... how bad it is for you. Theres freakin formaldahyde in cigs... to read a cig haters page might get you to stop for a little bit... but then the cravings are still there. But you can do it.. I promise. Talk to ur doc...I mean there are patches and pills but I-ve never tried them. You are younger than me!!! *lol....
Really you have to find deep inside why you want to quit. I mean why is it?? Just b/c ppl tell you it-s bad... b/c that-s not enough to push you through.
Sorry I don-t have a solid answer...lol... but you can drop me a line anytime if you want. Take care..

You have to have the will-power and motivation.
Fight temptation and just say NO... Quitting something isn-t easy especially since it-s an addiction but having the strength in your heart should help you accomplish ANYTHING in this world. Good luck to you! You can do it!
not to be offensive but you should do some research and really look at the consequences. think about what is going to happen in the future if you dont quit. i know its hard but you just try!
stop thinking about it...or if it is very very strong...reduce gradually...then instead of smoking cigarettes smoke narguila...
Stop buying cigarettes and stop smoking..

I think I-ve tried everything known to man and I still smoke, I enjoy it too much.
just research it and see pictures
get a patch
ask your doctor to help you
What Is The Most Effective Way To Quit Smoking? -

Trying to quit smoking...Anyone ever used the patch, gum, etc.? Do they work? Am afraid of gaining weight.? -

Trying to quit smoking...Anyone ever used the patch, gum, etc.? Do they work? Am afraid of gaining weight.? -

Why do people have weight gain when they quit? I have tried to quit several times, and have not been able to for more than a few days. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am astmatic and know it is bad for me to be smoking, but it is so hard to stop.
I have used both the patch and the gum. They both work, but I like the patch best. The reason I like it better than the gum is for the same reason you tend to gain weight.

Tobacco use is an oral gratification event as well as a chemical response. Putting the thing (cigarrette, chewing tobacco etc) in your mouth is part of the ritual. When you stop doing it, it helps break the cycle that way. However, you might take to putting other things there (e.g. food). There-s also the chemical thing...nicotine is a stimulant, tends to curb hunger.

The patch is a non-ritualistic method. Put it on, that-s it...the gum has its own little ritual of getting it and chewing it. I would recommend the patch.

Try to exercise more too while attempting the quit. Helps with the withdrawl symptoms (if you get them) and also helps you replace bad habits with better ones. If you can get hooked on the exercise instead, all the better.

While you are doing this, try to avoid ALL things you did when you would smoke. Don-t drink, don-t go to bars or smoking sections of restaraunts, don-t hang out with friends that smoke a lot...at least for the first month. Don-t avoid it entirely but don-t do them regularly.

Good luck, I hope you make it out!
If your going to quit make sure you have HEALTHY snacks around. You-re only going to gain weight if you eat junk food. Just watch what you-re eating...I know you-ll have the -oral fixation- going on. Also, take up some hobbies to keep you occupied. For example: Knitting, quilting, scrap-booking, misc. crafts, etc... The gum is somewhat helpful, but I always caved in! Never tried the patch yet. I know people who have and they have been successful, some not. It-s all on will power pretty much.

Good luck!

When I was a teen ,I wanted to fit in and be cool.
Television ads were Rampant back then. The ads even implied it made you look sexy, relieved tension ,and tasted good.
Well it took 33 years to KICK the habit .I did hypnotism ,gums ,cold turkey and Nic o ban .The latter tasted awful. I finally asked my doctor and she gave me Zy-ban ,I made up my mind to quit. The last cigarette was on June 23rd 1998.I Will Not Go Back. I am PROUD of ME.

Source(s):

My LIFE and EXPERIENCES.
Well, then don-t quit. Even with healthy snacks you-ll probably chow down enough to stop the cravings. But think about it, after a month or so, the cravings should be dulled to a dim thought and you can hit the gym extra hard. And breathe clean as an added bonus!
SMOKING IS THE HARDEST THING TO QUIT!!! GOOD LUCK!! BUT FOR ME THE FAMILY WAS THE BEST SUPPORT! AND THE GUM IS GREAT!! BEST WISHES!!! PS- I DIDNT GAIN ANY WEIGHT!!
Why the gain? B/c they are accostomed to having something in their mouth, so if it isn-t a cig it is some sort of food... and often it is a sweet treat.

I know of some who have tried the laser therapy with good and bad results.

I know of some who have tried the hypnosis route, but few with good results.

Gum and patch can work.

You should make an appointment with your doctor and see what he/she suggests.

For some cold turkey works, for others reduction (smoking 1 less per day until you are not smoking anymore) works better.
Using the patch or gum helps with the physical cravings. Remember that the physical addiction only lasts 3-4 days, after that it is all mental addiction. Best things to do when quitting: Stop on a weekend. Gives you time to adjust before having to concentrate. Eliminate patterns where you used to smoke. Smoke with coffee? then switch to tea for a while. If you usually smoke in one room or one chair, avoid that place for a while. Also remember a craving lasts only about 5 minutes. If you can make it past that 5 minutes, you will feel better.
Most people gain weight, because nicotine causes the intestines to absorb less nutrients and calories. Traditionally, people will gain weight the first 3 months, but then the weight tends to recede some.
good Luck!
I-ve heard that if you like to drink water that every time you crave one drink a glass actually even better if you don-t like water that way you-d get sick of drinking it. That is what a read in a paper on a class they was having.
Good luck to you . I quit 3 years ago and I used the patch and pill at the same time . One is for nerves and the patch is of course nicotine . I am doing well now but not a day goes by that I don-t crave one . You can do it if I can
Good luck
I-m 38 and quit smoking 8 years ago. I did go on the patch for two months (i.e. two different levels/strengths of Nicoderm patches). Didn-t try the last and third month. Only reason I did try the patch was that I got them for free through a hospital.
Best advice I got was to fix a date a month away. Then until that date to keep changing the brand every week to progressively lesser tar/nicotine cigarettes, without increasing the number of cigarettes or the manner of smoking. This helps in breaking the auto smoking action and consciously prepares you every time you light up. The first few days are the hardest. The patch will only help with the physical craving part, its the other small things that are difficult too. Hope I-m making sense. Best of luck.
people(women gain normally about five punds when they quit. Its because you dont get rid of the habbit, you just replace it with another, there for some people eat. Or chew gum, mints...i-ll quit with you. Its just so unheathly
I QUIT 10 YEARS AGO. I HAD SMOKED OVER 20 YEARS. I USED THE GUM AND IT HELPED ME ALOT. IT WAS FAR FROM EASY BUT THE GUM REALLY HELPED ME THROUGH THE ROUGH TIMES DON-T WORRY ABOUT PUTTING ON SOME WEIGHT ONCE YOU ARE COMFORTABLE NOT SMOKING YOU CAN TAKE THE WEIGHT OFF AND YOU WILL FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. AFTER 3 MONTHS I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT SMOKING. LOTS OF LUCK!!!
dont quit
you should start with gum. the healthy snax is a good idea. smoking with asthma is nutz... do yourself a favor and quit.

How can I quit SMOKING? -

smoke til you drop today then stop the next
It is really good that you have decided to quit smoking considering all its ill-effects. It may not be easy but not impossible if you have a strong determination to do it. You can follow these guidelines that may support your decision:

Make a list of all the reasons you want to and will quit smoking. Many of the reasons are obvious, however smoking is an addiction and the mind does not want to accept any of the facts. So go ahead, sit down and start writing.

Tell your family or a friend about your decision to quit. They will most likely be supportive of you and not judge, even when you may be having a hard time with it. We all know how hard it is to quit. If you are strong everyone will be strong with you.

Set a quit date. Don-t be to hasty, and make sure you give yourself enough time to get used to the idea.

Begin an exercise program. Exercise relieves stress and helps your body circulate the nutrients needed to repair from all the damage caused from smoking. Don-t start off too difficult an exercise program. Begin with walks and increase your distance and speed slowly. Begin other types of activity as you go.

Drink lots of water. Water is good for you and will flush the nicotine and other chemicals from the body.

Avoid smoke filled places at first. The aroma is intoxicating to a newly quit smoker
It-s all about willpower. If you truely want to you can do it cold turkey, rough but possible. I-ve done it. Unfortunately I started up again three years later. I think the addiction is for life, even when you aren-t smoking anymore. Tried Accupuncture last year, helped for eight weeks, but in a smokey car I couldn-t handle it anymore and lit up again.

Good luck, I-m out for a smoke now.
Have a read of the information at the website:
http://www.quitguide.com

It will give you all the information you need on how and why to quit, and the effects of smoking and quitting.
Go to it, you-ll never look back.
either stop dead or gradually.....for 3 days don-t smoke until after 10am....then move it back an hour every 3 days until you get to where your just not smoking
I do not recommend each step I took, but here is what I did.
I quit smoking around mid to late Oct. 05 and started dipping,(lesser of two evils) I knew I could not just quit at the time. Now it is April and I quit the day after Easter. I used getting my partials as a good reason to quit dipping. I hated dipping so I knew it would be easier to quit. I needed a bunch of big reasons, the bigger your reason the more likely your success. Anyway, it takes discipline, you have to refuse to do it any more. I hope you have success. I had my wife take my tobacco with her to work and throw it away the I was to quit and that was the end of it. Cheers, To Your Success. Be strong and stubborn
Also taking Vitamin B complex will calm your nerves. Takes one every 4 hours, as our bodies pee out what is not absorbed. Remember this vite. gives you energy, so stop taking toward the end of the day so it does not keep you awake. I recommend taking it 30 days straight before quitting so get some and start taking it immediately.
I really want you to succeed at this. You can do it.
Put your mind to it and do it. Some people can-t quit cold turkey so find a system that works for you and do it. It will be better for you. My father past away with emphysema If you saw him you would never light up again. Yes it is cool at first but the end result is very real.
This method works for me and is the only money back guaranteed.
I quite smoking 2 years ago

Get the Facts
Easyway, founded by Allen Carr in 1983, has the highest independently verified 12-month success rate (75.8% for a smoker completing the program) of any quit smoking technique and a 90% satisfaction rating.

Compare Easyway to other methods and see for yourself why Easyway is called “The Cadillac of quit smoking methods.”

The Allen Carr Method
HOW THE METHOD WORKS

Using psychotherapy, the method works in the opposite way to the “willpower” method. It does not concentrate on the reasons the smoker should not smoke : the money, the slavery, the health risks and the stigma. Smokers know all that already. Instead it focuses on why smokers continue to smoke in spite of the obvious disadvantages.

It is fear that keeps smokers hooked!

Fear the smoker will have to give up their pleasure or crutch. Fear the smoker will be unable to enjoy life or handle stress. Fear the smoker will have to go through an awful trauma to get free. Fear the smoker will never get completely free from the craving.

The Method removes these fears
Smokers quit with the Allen Carr Method as happy non-smokers, not feeling deprived but with a huge sense of relief and elation that they have finally achieved what they always wanted….

TO BE FREE!

What about the terrible withdrawal pangs from nicotine?

The physical withdrawal from nicotine is so slight that most smokers don’t realise that they are addicts. What smokers suffer when they try and quit using other methods is the misery and depression caused by the belief that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch.

The Allen Carr Method removes this feeling of deprivation.
It removes the need and desire to smoke. Once the smoker is in the right frame of mind and they follow the simple instructions, the physical withdrawal from nicotine is hardly noticeable.

No Gimmicks!

The Method does not use any gimmicks, useless aids or substitutes. No nicotine gum, patches, lozenges, tabs, inhilators or nasal sprays! No needles! No lasers! No drugs! No herbs! No shock treatment!

The Allen Carr Method is successful because:

It removes the smokers’ conflict of will.
There are no bad withdrawal pangs.
It is instantaneous and easy.
It is equally effective for long-term heavy smokers and light smokers.
You need not gain weight.
You will not miss smoking.

Medical Endorsements

A personal view from Professor Judith Mackay MBE, JP, FRCO (Edin), FRCP (Lon), World Health Organisation Advisory Panel on Tobacco and Health

“I have no hesitation in supporting Allen Carr’s work. Many clinics use some of his techniques but it would appear that few do it in quite such a successful package.”

Carole Johnson, Coronary Heart Disease Prevention Unit, Tyne Tees

“his success rate was such that, when budgets allow, we continue to use Easyway for work with specific groups and individuals.”

Dr Anil Visa BSc, MBBch., FRCA, Consultant – Royal Hospitals NHS Trust – Royal London Hospital

“I have observed the Allen Carr method at first hand and have found it to be very successful and I wholeheartedly support it as an effective way to quit smoking.”

Dr William Green, Head of Psychiatric Dept, Matilda Hospital, Hong Kong

“It is a remarkable fact that Allen Carr, on his own admission a non-professional in behaviour modification, should have succeeded where countless psychologists and psychiatrists holding postgraduate qualifications have failed, in formulating a simple and effective way to stop smoking.”

Dr Martin Jarvis, Principle Scientist, Imperial Cancer Research
Fund and Reader in Health Psychology, University College London

”...I am more than happy to testify to Allen Carr’s enduring involvement and to recognise the value of the kind of behavioural and cognitive support he provides.”

Dr PM Bray MB CH.b., MRCGP

“I was really impressed by the method. In spite of the Allen Carr organisation’s success and fame, there were no gimmicks and the professional approach was something a GP could readily respect. I would be happy to give a medical endorsement of the method to anyone.”

Celebrity Endorsements

-His method is absolutely unique, removing the dependence on cigarettes, while you are actually smoking. I’m pleased to say it has worked for many of my friends and staff.”
Sir Richard Branson

“Some friends of mine who had stopped using Allen Carr’s method suggested I tried it. I did. It was such a revelation that instantly I was freed from my addiction. Like those friends of mine, I found it not only easy but unbelievably enjoyable to stay stopped.”
Sir Anthony Hopkins

GOOD LUCK!
just pay more attention to another habbit of urs....!!

and day by day...go slow on ur smoking....finally u-ll be able to get over it!!

if ur really determined to get over it...you will be able 2.....don worry!
Everyone will have a person whose words we wont neglect.
If you have such a person, ask that person to keep on advising you not to smoke.
Atleast for that person-s sake you will stop smoking.
All the best.....
Put a little bit of dog poo on the end of each cigarette.

then see how much you want it in your mouth.
- try to be where u feel uncomfortable to smoke.
- fall in love with a guy who does not smoke.
If you really want to quit smoking then u have to make ur mind that in any circumstances u wont smoke or visit any nearby health centre
All you have to do is throw away all ur ciggies and start some excercise. Maybe you can join a fitness club or something similar.Eat healthy food and when u r desperate 4 a ciggie say -I will not smoke.- Usually it works. Good Luck!
Aaaah don-t bother, it makes you look very very cool.
Don-t put the cigarette in your mouth honey.
The answer is more simple than you think. Either stop buying cigarettes or find new friends who don-t engage in that habit. This custom was first introduced to the new settlers by the native Indian. Doesn-t everyone know that it-s the white man-s retribution for -taking- the Indian-s land from them?
buy some niccotine patches and gum.
I know this sounds harsh, but the only way to do it really is to stop, cold turkey, right this second. Throw all your cigarettes away and don-t play any games. When you get the urge to smoke, think of something else or do something else until the urge passes. It isn-t like it-s food, where your body must have it to live, don-t let something silly like a cigarette have control over you.
it is really good that you have decided to quit smoking considering all its ill-effects. It may not be easy but not impossible if you have a strong determination to do it. You can follow these guidelines that may support your decision:

Next time u wanna smoke ..try chewing gums
keep your mouth busy like a cow ..(only when u feel like to smoke)

Important :-)----------------
dip in some peeper powder at the tip of Ur cigarette n puff it ...

or wait for a cardie stroke ..

avoid it quickly before u make a regular trip to the Hospital
Quitting smoking is extremely difficult. The withdrawl makes us not want to, but we know the risks and we know that they are not worth it. For anyone who wants to end their nicotine addiction, check out www.stopsmokingcleveland.com. This is the MOST effective method on the market. It is 86% effective and the details of the program are on the website (no signing up or submitting your information).

I tried this program and it changed my life. I-ve tried ACS, patches, gum, hypnosis, accupuncture. I-ve done them all.
P.S. Allen Carr is only 20% effective.
How can I quit SMOKING? -

Hi. Anybody out there that can offer me ways to quit smoking amp; drinking? Im at wits end - thanks? -

Hi. Anybody out there that can offer me ways to quit smoking amp; drinking? Im at wits end - thanks? -

First of all you have to be committed to quiting. If you-re not completely committed then forget about quiting. For smoking you need to get on like a program or something. You need to find something that works for you. Maybe go to your doctor and they can help you. Gum, patches. I-m sure there-s some medicine to help too. Drinking is a lot easier to stop. If you can-t stop drinking, then you-re an alcoholic aand you need to get serious help for that. Otherwise, just keep yourself away from parties and people who are going to drink around you. You need to just say no to drinking, buying alcohol or anything. Don-t go to bars or whatever, go bowling instead lol. Get rid of the alcohol in your house. Drinking is really as simple as just not doing it. Smoking is an addiction though so it-s harder. But when things get hard and you feel like you need to smoke or drink, especially when you-re stressed, don-t turn to drinking or smoking. Have to do something else that helps. Exercise or get a massage or i dont know lol, go to the movies.
Hi I-m an alcoholic and I stopped drinking two years ago. I-ve never had a relapse, I quit without Alcoholics anonymous. I have terrible willpower but I still succeeded and I can say with confidence that I will never drink again.

ONE THING AT A TIME!

If you want to quit drinking, don-t try quitting smoking at the same time. It just won-t work and you will fail. It is too much to take on at one time.

Firstly admit that you have a problem, (I assume you have done this) Make a date to quit and see your Doctor about help with withdrawal.

Avoid places where people are drinking in the early days

Join AA only if you must as they have a really high failure rate, instead try rational recovery. (this worked great for me)

Keep a journal and write down all of the emotions you go through after quitting and help you to remind yourself why you quit in the first place.

Join a gym and get fit, this will help a lot.

Get a new hobby and find something which makes your life more enjoyable.

Read about cognitive behavior therapy, You can buy a -Dummies- book about it from Amazon

Meditate daily, try
http://www.moonfish-design.co.uk
there are some great free tools there.

Keep reminding yourself why you quit, don-t listen to the internal voice which tells you to start again.

Do it a day at a time, the days merge into weeks, months and then years.

Check out my blog about alcohol addiction
http://www.addictvoice.com
you-ll find some more tips there.

Wishing you the best, if you really want to quit you will.

Namaste Rob
Try to get more information regarding some ways to stop smoking at my profile.
Cold turkey, the only way to quit...and lots of support afterward. I-m an ex smoker, I tried gum, pills, patches, filters, everything but hypnosis (not a candidate.) the only thing that worked was putting them down and not picking them up again. It was hell for a few months, but got easier as time passed.
cold turkey... will power... evrythin else is prettymuch useless
Ok, I know most will roll thier eyes at this but.... Alcoholics Anonymous really does help a lot. They use a 12 step program that can also help with any other addictions (of any kind), so it could help with the smoking also. I know it is not for some, maybe not for you, but if doing it on your own doesn-t work (like it didn-t for me), it-s an option. If nothing else, it provides tons of support and I know it has worked for tons of people. You-ve probably already heard of it so if it-s not your kind of thing just disregard....but either way good luck!!!!
yo i can help but it will cost you a little bit of time no doubt about it
here is a method to quit smoking in which you do not need any professional or a deaddiction programme. its a self-help method, you will succeed if you are enough determined to get rid of this evil habit. then here it is :
Saying many ways is not a big deal but you have to accept it so first try to control your mind - heart create a feeling that if your supposed to see a cigar or drink you have to hate it as soon as you seen that, anger towards that must fill your must fill your heart. If ur not sure that u can-t control it by ur mind then go for some pills that-ll help you in controlling - avoiding that things, If ur ready to go for a pills then consult doctors advice befora taking that pills.. The decision u-ve taken to quit smoking - drinking is really good try to leave it soon..All the best...

Im really trying to quit smoking...but i am really afraid to gain weight...? -

I also want to know if quiting will help clear up my face? Dumb question, but i think it might, if i can get my body running on vitamins instead of nicotine. I think the smoking is messing up my hormones.
Quit smoking, then get on a proper diet and exercise routine. Join a gym and get training sessions. Most people use gaining weight as an excuse not to quit. It really doesn-t hold a lot of water... if you quit smoking and eat right and exercise, your body will be more efficient at losing weight.

Love Jack
start working out( jogging ,walking, jumpping, running, biking, kick boxing and more) eat healthy no junk food and no sodas, drink plenty of water
read about fitness
look at my profile with great websites
Congrats on your attempt to quit. It is a tough road but do-able with enough will power, and a huge benefit to your health and well being. I quit 10 years ago, and it isn-t easy. Some will power and a day to day committment will help you. You have a definite concern regarding the weight gain. Not all people gain, but most, especially women do if they do not alter their lifestyle. For one thing, you will taste foods better, so will eat more and possibly things not too healthy to maintain your weight. You must start now to carefully watch what you eat. Seriously. Also, your metabolism will take a downturn for a short while, but if you incorporate some daily exercise, as brisk walking, or something other that will raise and maintain your heartrate for 30 minutes, you will do just fine. Buy yourself some sugarless gum or sugarless mints, or candy and keep them all at hand. If you make sure that your daily food intake is a healthy mixture of things necessary to maintain a good metabolic movement, your chances of success in stopping smoking for good, and keeping fat off will be excellent. And good luck!
Let me tell you, I have recently quit and it has been worth it. Yes I have gained a bit of weight but it-s nothing I can-t work off in a couple of months. I have put on an additional 10 pounds and my size 6 pants don-t fit anymore. So what, the money I-m not spending on smokes, I am going to spend on new clothes. I don-t smell like smoke any more. My clothes house and car don-t smell anymore. It is a wonderful feeling. And I kicked the habit without any -stop smoking aids.- Just plain old willpower.

Good Luck and it is sssooooooo worth it.
Quit smoking 1 pack a day and put on a lot of weight. The first couple to weeks I always had some type of food in my mouth.

I stopped smoking on 9-19-06, so now I am exercising and eating better to drop the weight which is now dropping quickly that the side effects of smoking has decreased.

Best of luck !

If you put on weight, don-t keep it, start exercising right away and try to eat healthy as you go through withdrawal which is hard to do.
Hon---I quit 2 years ago, after 27 years of smoking 2-3 packs of KOOLs a day.
And YES, I gained weight, but I lost it when the addiction was gone...
And my doc said he preferred the weight gain to the cigarettes!!!!

You can do it--but it is HARD!!! You have to be very determined to quit.
Get a piece of paper. On one side, list all the benefits of smoking. It-ll be a very short list. On the other, list the detriments. Stop at 20.

Possibly gaining weight is much less health threatening than continuing to smoke.

And yes, nicotine is messing up your skin.
People smoke because they have a addicting personality, hence being afraid of gaining waite...
Clearing up your face, if you think it will hard enough it just might...
If you are happily married get addicted to sex....everytime you want a smoke have sex. No more smoking :0)
People tend to think that the weight gain is due to pacifying the need to put something in your mouth. In other words, you substitute food for the cigarettes. This is partially responsible but actually a combination of that combined with the fact that nicotine is a stimulant. It stimulates your metabolism and when it-s gone, your metabolism slows down. My suggestion is that when you do quit smoking, chew lots of gum and start your day with at least 20 minutes of cardio-vascular exercise.
I would imagine it would help clear up your face because you would be eliminating the toxins from your system that you ingest with cigarettes. It certainly would not hurt.

Good luck!
Start a workout plan when you quit. I did, and I lost 40 pounds so far.

Quit smoking? -

I tried to quit smoking today, but I-m a sucker I guess, this is like my fifth time trying. I really want to quit but I just go crazy inside when I don-t smoke. This sucks, never smoke.
I quit after many years, have been free for over 2 years now.

First off, what one guy already told you...american spirit.
first thing change to those never smoke anything else.
cut out hundreds o chemicals that your body doesnt need and makes it more addictive and poisonous.

The way I finally quit.: I picked a date, which was my birthday for easy reference, also to give myself the present of healthy lungs. I chose it like 5 months in advance. The rule I gave myself was that I could smoke all I wanted until my birthday, and by that date I would never smoke again. I told everybody that I knew, family, friends, and professionally, that I would quit by that date. Then my pride was entangled with that goal so I could not fail. Sometimes when we state something, like we wiull quit smoking, there just isnt a high enough level of committment. For my personality, this was the magic way. I didnt feel deprived because I smoked all I wanted, and every time I did I announced my quit date. Of all the people I told, only a couple doubted me, but their doubt made my will even stronger.

I also did stuff like worked on reducing the amount I smoked to make it easier to drop it, and not aqllowing myself to smoke indoors, I smoked outside with a special jacket, to keep the smell off my clothes. I learned some other things, deep things during this time, which I will share with you if you are interested and contact me by email.

Do it, quit. You wont regret it.
My mom quit cold turkey. You force yourself to never buy them, or you try to find a reason to put it off and you-ll never have any to smoke when you want to.
You can also try gradually getting off of them. Say you currently smoke a pack a day, cut back to half that amount until you are comfortable with that level cut back again until you eventually feel you can stop.
Nicotine patches might also help, and again just gradually cut back.
Those are the 3 best suggestions I can come up with. Whatever you do don-t put it off, start today or else for the rest of your life you-ll be telling yourself you can quit tomorrow. Good Luck!
first of all I just want to say: That-s great! you want to quit smoking!

next I think you should go and talk to your pharamcist on how you can quit somking. He/she can suggest methods that you can try to help you quit. Also, from what I-ve lerned in school when you want to smoke first you should try and destract yourself, like go and brush your teeth everytim you want to smoke or try and slove a puzzle. I also learned that if you drink cold water slowly when feel like somking you will lose the urge to smoke. I don-t know how it works but it effect a part of the brain to help you out with not smoking. I hope this helps. but you should seek professional help with that quest of yours it may seem hard at times, but you-re doing it to have better health =)
yes, i-ve been there.
i guess it was easier for me to quit because i-m a minor and it wasnt always easy getting a hold of them. and it wasnt always easy smoking them. for me.. it just got old trying to hide it. but for you, if you cant do it cold turkey.. try some of the gum or the patch. there are a lot of things available to help you out. but boy do i know what you mean.. when you think everything is going well you think about it for 2 seconds and want that quick fix. try to keep busy. tell all your friends not to let you even think about it. and if you do think about it.. then talk about it! tell someone how badly you want one but how you know you can-t. good luck.
This is easier than you think, and thats the main thing you need to know.
You were not born with a cigarette, so there for you do not need to die by them eh?

Whenever you want a cigarette, distract yourself, you can drink water, treat yourself with chocolate or...

Take your thumb and index finger of either hand, do you know that flap of skin between them? Use your thumb and index finger to gently press this skin on the other hand between the thumb and index finger.
Press gently or a little more hard (DO NOT BRUISE YOURSELF!!) until you feel the craving pass.
You can count in between too.

This has actually helped my friend who smoked for 20 years quit.

Good luck I know you can do this!
first, try switching to -american spirit- cigarettes. it won-t fulfill your cravings like marbolo or camel, because american spirit is natural tobacco and does not contain additives and all that crap. but it-ll help you cope. then slowly, little by little, reduce the amount of american spirit cigarettes, and eventually you can be smoke free.
Just quit completely.

I began college a few years ago. Before that, I used to drink pop/soda. However, in college I drank coffee to keep myself awake. I didn-t want to drink pop when I eat lunch in the cafeteria because I didn-t want to get too much caffeine from coffee+soda. So I quit drinking soda and started drinking water. I no longer have a craving for soda. It got cleared from my system. I probably drink one soda once every few months.
it-s so hard!! keep trying though, you can do it! i quit for a year, then started back up over the new year... aaarrrgggeee!!! the way i did it the first time was to take a vacation of at least 5 days, get lots of munchies, gum, candy and mints and plant yourself in front of the t.v.... 5 days of overeating is better than a lifetime of smoking!!
well please dont give up. my mom and dad smokes and i cant stand it. it makes me wanna cry everytime she lites a cig. because then shes on breath closer to dieing. i relly dont want to be a kid with no parents. and if you have kids im sure they feel the same way as i do. even if you dont im sure your friends and family feel that way to.
change it for anoyher habbit.
instead of goin outside for a smoke go for a peice of gum , or jog or someting u wouldent like, like when ever u want a smoke do 5 pushups and then u will eventually hate it and stop tinin abvout it
For a good strategy for this see smoking on this webpage below. With what they add to tobacco, it is now almost impossible to stop.

http://www.phifoundation.org/cure2.html

try eating a wasabi pea every time you feel the urge for a cigarette. it worked for me. Trust me, I highly suggest it.
Trying to do it on your own can be pure hell. You can go to your doctor and get medications that will help relax you so you can overcome the cravings.
get somebody to put a hair in a half of your cigs and more and more over time the taste will be utterly disgusting but you-ll quit
start off slowly start by smoking 3 a day.. than when your used to it 2.. than 1.. than none! its a slow process ur addiction wont go away in one day!
You have no realy method.

See your doctor about how to pack up and that may help.

MAKE YOUR SELF STOP! that might work.
try nicotene free, the patch or the gum. try a hotline. try something else. best of luck
nicotine gum

try putting a pack ni front of you and try to not be bothered by it
throw them away

To quit the cancer sticks a Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking- can help you.
I tried 3 different times. the first 2 times I wasn-t really ready I suppose. It worked the 3rd time with acupuncture. I was a 3+ pack a day smoker and it has been 3 years since my last cigarette. You have to be mentally ready to quit before you try any method. Acupuncture, when done properly is the best way to accomplish kicking the habit. There is no craving, But to be honest, I wanted to smoke again but it had nothing to do with the NEED for nicotine but out of habit of what to do after a big meal etc. Good Luck with it though, whichever way you chose.
Just QUIT! I did and It was the best thing I ever did!! Everytime you light up, tell yourself how bad it tastes. Continue doing this and really mean it , soon you won-t want one! cut down as you go. Also associate it with something painfull, a pinch, pinprick, finger in a door, smash a toe, when you light up (not enough to cause injury), just enough to make you wince. It will help you Quit!!
Just quit cold turkey and get rid of any remaining cigarettes. If they aren-t there you won-t be tempted.

Hints to Quit Smoking? -

My husband NEEDS to quit smoking and he is really having a hard time. He has NO will power. he has tried nicorette, commit, etc... hates them all. Any suggestions...
A Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking- can help.
I don-t really think those nicotine gums are such a good idea either: They just replace one source of nicotine (which is a poison) with another.

He needs to do something that will keep his mind off those cigarettes. Perhaps he can join a local gym and work out with some of the other guys. And help him keep a pack of Dentyne on hand: That way if he starts making any hand-to-mouth motions, he-ll have something to put in his mouth besides a stick.

Another thing that he might try doing is joining a support group of some sort, since he can-t do it alone.

A third thing you two can do together is clean the house thoroughly. If he can-t smell cigarettes, he-ll be less likely to try to reach for them. And if he sees the brown that he washes off the windows- or whatever- and realizes that that-s exactly what-s been going into his lungs- that just might give him the healthy scare he needs.

Good luck, both of you!
Have him make an appointment with his doctor. There are many smoking cessation aids out there. His doctor can determine which, if any, would be best for him.

Suggest that he join a support group. Mine is Nicotine Busters,
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Nic…
They provide great information and support.

Good luck to you and your husband!!!!
I stopped smoking 8 months ago when they raised the tax on a carton of cigarettes by $10. It wasn-t that I wouldn-t have been able to afford the higher price or even that I particularly wanted to quit. The damn arrogance of it made me so mad I just decided the hell with them. The blood-sucking government won-t get another dime out of me via cigarettes.

I had smoked from the early age of 12 to age 67.

My point, anger helped me to quit cold turkey. Maybe if you can get your husband angry enough at the overdone taxes on cigarettes he will quit. Just a though. Hope it helps.
I have been quit for more than 2 months after smoking for 35 years using Chantix. It really helps!
the only way he will quit is he has to want it. I just quit smoking 2 weeks ago and had some reservations about whether or not I could do it...but because I wanted to do it, that made it that much easier. He won-t be able to quit unless he really wants to.
Quit Assist .com! actually i don-t if thats the website but i-m sure if you typed in quit assist into a search engine you-d find it. good luck! i-m glad your trying to get your husband to quit!! sometimes people need to take different ways. like maybe he could quit with someone else, or gradually cut down, or just quit cold turkey.
idk, but if he really wants to quit, he could do it, no matter the will power. my grandmother stopped smoking when she heard my mom was pregnant, no niccoret r anything, just stopped in 1 nite. it depends on ur amount of self discipline.

Does nicoderm CQ and other quit smoking patches work? -

im 19 years old and have been smoking cigarettes for several years and was only able to quit once cold turkey by being sent to sago palm academy for undisclosed reasons and when i came home started smoking again...i dont want to shovel out cash for something thats not going to help..i dont expect these things to work by themselves and they require my own restraint..but something to help me noticeably would be great does anyone have any insight?? thanks -jason
Don-t feel bad about not being able to quit through going cold turkey or by cutting down. Cutting down doesn-t work because it gives nicotine the power, not the other way around. The vast majority will fail to quit using these methods.

I personally don-t trust any quit smoking method that deals only with physical nicotine addiction. I tried several times to quit using patches, gums, herbs etc but none of these worked.

Smoking is more of a psychological addiction than a physical one. If you really want to quit you must discover the reasons why you smoke and then eliminate or change these thought processes. As soon as I dealt with my psychological reasons for smoking I quit, first time and more importantly for good.

Patches are expensive and simply do not work. All that is required is a bit of motivation, self belief and determination.

Visit our blog for more information and to download our free book.

Good Luck and Good Quitting

They help very much (if used as prescribed) with the physical addiction. Weaning you off the nicotine.

The psychological part, they aren-t going to help you with. That-s the hardest part to deal with.

i need to know the best way to quit smoking
im not addicted
but i cant quit cold turkey
im 17 years old
and i just want it gone with
but its more of a mental thing..
i dont wanna smoke..
i gag when i do
but i always go for one w/o knowing
help me?
i dont want to have to buy anything either
and i have weened myself off slowly
im down to like 2-3 a day
but id like to be down to 0
The best way to take that last smoke is to think about what good things will happen in your life once you do.

You add two years to your life.
You add healthy kids and spouse one day.
You don-t give other a chance of getting cancer from you.

Just think about the advantages rather that just the disadvantages (like getting breathing problems)....

And go for a quick walk to get fresh air if you feel particularly bad....just do it...

And good luck,I am proud of you.
Try the electronic cigarette (Ruyan)? It delivers nicotine, but not the toxic substances:

Well friend that was a mistake to start it because wants you start, you can-t get off of it and want more. You need to quit buying cierrates, eat something better (food not drugs), try to save money for something else like a new car, new engine, or save the money in a bank for later on, and go see a doctor what you can do. I can tell some regertions for you if you don-t quit soon. Waste money on cierreates, get tar in your lungs that they-ll simpley dry up and your lungs will have a harder and harder time to get oxygen in and it can just stop and you-ll die. It-s best to quit now then later on the road of life because it-ll be easier. Just say no.
Go in the kitchen or ask your mom for a couple of hole cloves when you get the urge put one in your mouth and suck on it . (don-t chew ).

How did you quit smoking? -

It took me at least 2 tries before I quit for real and the third time I quit cold turkey. I used lollypops when I was driving to kill that craving or those candy cigs the first 2 times as well. It was hard but when I used the gum the second time I thought that I stopped for good because I didn-t smoke for 7 months then I went back to smoking. The only bad thing is I gained a lot of weight and now I need to lose weight...ugh it never ends. I wrote down my goals which helped and I know I need to do that for my weight issues too. Did anyone gain a lot of weight after they quit?
The biggest reason was that after 20 years I realised that I wanted to quit more than I wanted to smoke. I was sick of being a smoker. I used patches for a while then read the Allen Carr Easyway book. It also helped to keep me motivated when I started seeing how much fitter I felt and better I looked.
It-s been 6 months now, sometimes I still have to remind myself how far I-ve come and accept that I will never have -just one-- - been there and done that, there-s no such thing!
My daughter quit by using Chantix and it worked for her. At the time I quit it wasn-t around. I quit cold turkey and I was a pack and a half a day smoker. It was tough, but I had changed my routine. I told everyone I quit, and I felt I couldn-t go back on my word. I was also in the middle of a move to keep me busy and doing a yard sale. The first 2 weeks were the hardest. I would even pray at night to help get me through it. Even after 3 years, I would crave a cigarette, but I kept telling myself if I ever pick one up again I know I wouldn-t quit. Because I had tried to quit a couple of times before. One time it was for 3 months and I thought I could smoke just one cigarette. Well, it doesn-t work that way! I have now been off of cigarettes for 18 years.
Dont use Chantix, whatever you do. I-ve heard that people who use that go into deep states of depression, suicidal thoughts, and nausea.
I used the patch which helped a little bit. It does take will power as well. There is a pretty good quit smoking website as well called Quitnet
You should check that out. Good luck to you
Cold turkey. However, I was more of a -social smoker- and smoked about 1-5 cigarrettes per day. But, I do believe going cold turkey is one of the most effective ways to quit any habit. Hard? Sure! But it almost always works once you get past the initial stage. Best of luck to you.
Okay Ive never smoke but my mom and husband did. My mom quite about a year ago using Chantix. She was a two pack a day smoker and she-s doing amazing! I highly reccomend it.

My husband smoked since he was 8! He just quit. Just stopped buying ciggarettes.
I smoked for 8 years, and I just quit 2 weeks ago, my body just said quit smoking, and I did I havent had a urge or craving to even think about it and when I actually do think about it, it just disgusts me
Laid them down. No stupid gums or patches. They just take your money and keep you from quitting properly.

If you really really want to quit, you will. It sucks at first but you can do it!!
Both myself and my partner smoked. We agreed to quit and also agreed that if we gave into the cravings for a cigarette we-d be letting each other down.
I-d rather crave nicotine than let her down -3
Well Im actually weird when it comes to smoking.... I am not addicted, I can stop and start when i like. I think my body reacts differently to the nicotine. FREAKKK!!!
As it happened, I was anxious and eager to please God. I-d been a smoker for a few years, yet it was easy.
I was -lucky- that time.
spent the summer away from home....completely different schedule and jet lag confused me for a while and then when i had cravings i would always be doing something else i had to focus on.
I never started.

Disgusting habit and I like being alive.
After many failures and cutting way back, I went cold turkey. Every failure is just one step closer to success.
by thinking of they terrable things it does to my body and i quit cold turkey after some research
Many people try like these plastic cigarettes or this chewing gum for smokers my mum is still trying to give up smoking!
I got pregnant. Made it real easy knowing there was a baby in me. Then after he was born I didn-t even fell like having one.
I never saw the point in even starting.
I would rather keep my lungs healthy, thanks.
nicotine patches a drinking water when i got cravings
DONT PUT THE CIG TO YOUR MOUTH AND LIGHT IT!!!!!!
I told the wife to slow down and use a lubricant HAAAAAAAA. D-OH.
as long as I can run 5 mile with a cig in my mouth....im not quiting
Chantix helped me...
Just did.
Chantix.. it works

Quit smoking? -

I quit smoking a couple of days ago. I am using Welbutrin to help me get over my cravings. It works. But now I feel as someone is chocking me (not that dramatic), but I have this pressure in or on my Throat . I coughed quite a bit in the last couple of days, but it-s getting better too. I normally use an inhaler for my -astma- that only shows symptoms when i excersice. I have noticed that the inhaler helps me when I feel that my chest is tight as well. I know I should not use it for this reason, but it helps is all im saying. Is this a normal feeling with the sore/thightness of my throat, and how long does it take for me to feel better and breathe better?
Your body is craving the nicotine, like ur lungs and throat. So you-re gradually -weening- it off. The longer you stop smoking, the less it-ll -ache- for it. I was like that for about 2 weeks. Sometimes so bad I HAD to make myself go sleep. Don-t start smoking though. Once you do, the -ache- does stop but once you try to stop again, it-ll come back much harder. The coughing is normal. They should subside within a week of quitting. The coughing will get worse but they have to in order to get better. If you are having concerns, see your doc.
It took me about a month to start breathing better and tasting better. After about 2 after, I hated the smell of a cigarette. The cravings got less but still there. Sometimes they come really hard and bad out of no where but keep at it. Wait 10 mins and they will pass. Good luck! Congrats on quitting!!! =)
Hmm... that-s a tuffy. Have you asked your doctor? It could be bad or it could be harmless. Don-t worry.
Congradulations on quitting!!!I dont know too much about welbutrin. Is this a side affect? When I quit,I didnt havetightness in my throat, but I did in my chest.Deep breathe as much as you can.I started doing yoga, and it really helped. Its been over a year since I quit.Hang in there! You can do this!

Easyway – Allen Carr.

Honestly it is the only way I have ever known to actually help people quite, stay quit and be damn happy about it...unfortunately most people think the idea of an easy way to quit smoking is nonsense as people think it needs to be hard…it really doesn-t.

This does exactly what it says, it is an easy way to stop smoking, and the way it works is essentially by de-programming the ingrained notions you have on smoking and quitting smoking so that it deals with the psychological problems of your smoking rather than the chemical. The chemical addiction is not the problem, you can go all night without being woken up by a craving, you will find sometimes you-re having so much fun you forget to have a cigarette, quitting smoking does not have serious withdrawal.

Socially we are taught that smoking needs to be difficult, we live now in a very anti-smoking society, rather than a pro-quitting society, where there is no real support for people to quit, it teaches non-smokers that smokers are idiots and smokers that they have to suffer when they quit – if you believe it is difficult, this makes quitting smoking difficult – you believe to quit smoking requires will power and that quitting smoking will be depriving yourself of something you like doing, when you do not really like doing it, nor are you depriving yourself of anything, you are actually gaining something by quitting smoking.

Problem with most methods is that they will either involve going cold-turkey or nicotine replacement. Cold-turkey is not only depriving yourself of smoking but it is also just dealing with the chemical addiction rather than dealing with the psychological, nicotine replacement isn-t depriving you however it is again only dealing with the chemical addiction, this is not the problem with smoking.

Allen Carr can explain this far better than I can, so let me just stick to telling you about Easyway – yes, it sounds gimmicky but it is the only way I have ever seen anyone quit smoking for good, and the only method to quit smoking that I have seen people happy with rather than being moody miserable and remaining under the impression that they need to fight the urge to smoke every day for the rest of their lives.

A book on Easyway from Amazon will set you back just £4, less than a pack of cigarettes, the book also offers money off their clinics – their clinics boast well over 90% success rate and give you a money-back guarantee – so that is just £4 you are spending for something that will help you quit smoking, be happy about quitting smoking and remain a non-smoker. Hell, you could probably pick up the book from your local library, afterall it has been a best seller since it came out over 20 years ago!

Not only that but you are allowed to carry on smoking while you are reading the book, in fact you are specifically told to carry on smoking while you read and the further you get into the book the less you want to smoke.

Check out the book reviews;

You really don-t know unless you try it, I honestly recommend this to everyone I know, a lot of people are too scared to try it because they aren-t ready to quit yet, but all those who have read it agree it is fantastic and the only sensible way to go about quitting smoking.

plus a great guaranteed course you can do to make the whole process easier on yourself.
You will quit when you are almost dead.
You have to really mean it. I tried a -thousand- times and couldn-t. Then I started getting the smoker-s cough (after only 14 years of it) and the thought of emphysema scared the crap out of me, and I also figured I could save money (well, put it in my gas tank, now). Bought the generic -patch-, went through minor with-drawls, slept whenever I could so I wouldn-t crave, and finally did it.

Feb. 20, 2006 to today (and hopefully forever) -- smoke free. But the bottom line is this -- YOU REALLY HAVE TO DECIDE TO QUIT. PERIOD. Otherwise, that -just one- will lead to two packs a day.

And the urge still hits me. Out of the blue, for no reason, I-ll think -I want a cigarette-. Just try to think of something else and it usually goes away after a minute.

Good luck.
Quitting smoking is one of the most important things you will ever do:

You will live longer and live better

The people you live with, especially your children, will be healthier.

You will have extra money to spend on things other than cigarettes

Set a quit date.

Change your environment.

Get rid of ALL cigarettes and ashtrays in your home, car, and place of work.

Don-t let people smoke in your home.
Review your past attempts to quit. Think about what worked and what did not.

Once you quit, don-t smoke—NOT EVEN A PUFF!

Tell your family, friends, and co-workers that you are going to quit and want their support

Get individual, group, or telephone counseling. The more counseling you have, the better your chances are of quitting. Programs are given at local hospitals and health centers. Call your local health department for information about programs in your area

Try to distract yourself from urges to smoke. Talk to someone, go for a walk, or get busy with a task.

When you first try to quit, change your routine. Use a different route to work. Drink tea instead of coffee. Eat breakfast in a different place.

Do something to reduce your stress. Take a hot bath, exercise, or read a book.

Plan something enjoyable to do every day.

Drink a lot of water and other fluids.

Am glad you thought of quitting cigarettes.
My best wishes. Live happy.
first you have to have a true desire to want to quit. then you must find somthing to replace this activity. people gain weight because they eat, don-t eat more unless you eat fruits and vegtables, the best is to maybe eat carrot or celery sticks because then you hace taht feeling of somthing in your hand. avoid smokey bars and don-t go outside with the other smokers on breaks. until you have totoay quit as long as you have urges you will relaps but once the smell of ciggerette smoke smells disgutung then you are ready. and join a support group of friends and all try and quit together and maybe even make a small bet. but a doller in a jar for every ciggerette you bum off some one while you are trying to quit. and use that money for somthing nice foryourself.

Quit Smoking? -

I began smoking when I was 12 years old, I am now 17 and I haven-t smoked for one week today. I have avoided any social situations where I was more prone to give in to my filthy adictive urges and I was just wondering if I should continue to avoid these potential hazardous situations in order to quit or wether I should just face them and try not to smoke, because I am worried that if i continue to avoid them, I may never be able to face them without smoking...
Hi Joshua , I-m in the same boat as you only I-m 54 - have been smoking for 40 of those years . Do yourself and your family a big favor - do whatever it takes , including staying out of situations that make you want to smoke . I-ve done the same thing - find it helps tremendously . The patch helps alot , but then your just putting the nicotine back in your system . I-m having a real problem with just the habit of lighting up , holding it , the whole ritual it entails . I was down to three a day , which was 100 less a week than I was smoking . I-m back up to ten a day which is still an improvement , but I-m disappointed in myself . Oh yea , I have COPD ( chronic obstuctive pulmonary disease ) from smoking . I-ve just started a support group on Yahoo ( DoOrDieNow ) if you want to join . I know I can use all the help - support I can get . I want to see my grandchildren get married . At this rate I won-t , but I-m not giving up ! Keep trying Joshua . Good luck !
It-s only been a week! Give your self a break and avoid those social situations for 2-3 more weeks. The worst of it should be over by then and you will be better able to deal with other smokers.

Good luck to you.
In order to quit on your own, you have to be very strong willed, determined and self disciplined. To help matters, avoid the things that make you want to smoke, like after meal with coffee. Socialize with your friends but concentrate on doing something with your hands rather than grab a cigarette and chew gum, smoke a brand you don-t like. Do it gradually.

I-ve been smoking for 30 years, don-t plan to quit, but only smoking 1/2 pack a day. Quit once on my own for 2 years, but since nothing is being done about the air polution, the cancer agents in water and in our food, the crime, etc. I went back to it. I gained weight then which I lost. More deaths are caused from obesity than smoking.

Cut back in moderation and slowly wean yourself off of it. Smoke only around your smoking friends and when your out in clubs. Dont give up your social life because of it; some thing else may get you....which means you may have given up smoking - your friends for nothing. Enjoy life and do what you want.........here today and gone tomorrow. Good chance it wont be because of the smoking.
well like i started smoking(more like crack) when i was 8 since my older bros did it and i was always around it....once i turned 13 and got raped couple months later had a kid i knew i had to stop ...if i could stop for like 10 years(im 18) than you can do it yea i had to give up some of my friends but they were causing me in to much trouble plus i started getting sick which lead to H.I.V for me and Fibromyalgia so i would say stop for your own sake of life
Good...But 12 yrs. old..Isnt that young??Good 4 u that u stop smoking
don-t avoid them. thats my advice. you should face your fear. thats what everybody says. if you always avoid these temptations without even trying, you won-t last a second in the outside world. face it, nowadays socializing is as important as getting a degree. still, its easier said than done. but if you manage to stop smoking facing the challenge, thats a very big achievement already.
crack? don-t have a clue on that one. cigs? the cleansing period for an addition is 28 days, then it-s psychological/physical. you have habits when you smoke, after eating, after sex, etc. break these habits as you break the smoke habit and you should be mostly in the clear, whether or not you-re around others who smoke. the mental addition to want to will hang around longer, but try to fight it, because if you give in...you-ll go back to smoking.
