How to quit smoking? -

I want to quit smoking. i smoke 3-4 cig a day. It is taking a tol on me. I feel tired even when i am walking. Please somebody help as i seriously want to give up smoking. I am not able to do it as i am not able to resist.
First off, congratulations for WANTING to quit smoking!!

As far as answering, there are a lot of ways, and it also depends on how much you-ve been smoking. The best ways are slowly lowering your dose (takes a long time sometimes), or going cold turkey (which is faster, but harder). Either way, the last thing is making the decision to quit, so you-ll eventually have to deal with the withdrawal.

For the most part, when you deal with withdrawal, you-ll just have to tough it out, but there are some things that can help cleanse out the toxins and may help to minimize some of the effects of withdrawal...
Drinking water will help to detox, and taking some supplements that work as cleansers may help as well. Specifically, Apple Cider Vinegar, Green Tea (decaffeinated), Chlorophyll (fantastic cleanser), and even good amounts of fiber and water helps some people (although it-s not very comfortable for the lower level of detoxification you get).

All that being said, it-s likely that the symptoms should stop relatively shortly after your last smoke (it-s never as long as it feels like it is). Your neurotransmitters don-t take too terribly long to scream for something they are addicted to after you stop.
Another important thing to note is that no matter how bad it gets, taking more of the drug (and yes, nicotine is a drug) will only make the withdrawal last longer and will be harder on you in the long run. Good luck, and congrats again!
Peerhaps the nicorette activestop program might help.

Ive quit smoking for 2 weeks and have had a stomachache the whole time does anybody know why this is? -

stress. Struggle through! I know how hard it is...6 monthes quit here. It will be worth it though! Right?
I don-t have an answer but wanted to say well done and keep up the good work! Quitting is hard! Keep going :)
Its all apart of quiting...try to go for a walk to distract you..Your body is trying to force you into smoking again by causing distress or pain..its withdrawls.
I quit over 15 years ago and I remember that it was very difficult and I did not feel well for the first few weeks then I felt great. Keep at it you will never regret that you quit only if you don-t .
Your body is adjusting to the lack of Nicotine. Your stomach can feel as though it-s in - knots- . Your nerves/stress can cause the stomach to react this way as well. I hope this helps and Congrats on quitting. Hang in there !!
This is your stomach reacting to smoking withdrawal. May I suggest a few cups of licorice tea. It will give your stomach the feeling of having nicotine. Try chewing on natural licorice sticks. (found in heath food stores) My mother used them to quit smoking and she-s been smokeless for over twenty years.
have a smoke it will go away
withdrawals symptoms
can be alleviated by chewing some nicotine gum or just suck it up realize why ya quit and know soon you will feel better
The stomache ach is your bodies way of letting off craving symptoms. However this could be something serious if it is so pain full you can not stand or have to bend over. I quit 4 yrs ago.
I took smoking cessation classes and it was covered there.
They said as your body adjusts to life w/o it one of the side effects could be constipation.(Is that the kind of stomach ache you have?)
Try drinking lots of water and avoid caffeine.

Good luck !!!!

I only stayed quit for a few weeks.

I want to quit smoking but if i dont smoke i eat,a lot, and i dont want that either, any sugestions,wt can i do? -

i noticed that i need to smoke,to much.If i dont though i take up the time by eating and i dont want to do either but theres so much time now and i dont know what to do.
Keep low calorie snacks around. Dried bananas, apples, carrot sticks etc. Good luck with quitting. Take up a hobby that uses both hand like needle point.
This is how i quit.
First, get nicotine patches, and every week use a slightly smaller patch. Go at your own pace and don-t try to rush it, when i did this system it took 200 days to quit, for others it could be longer.

Here are some of the problems i ran into and how i dealt with them:

1)i missed the relaxing smoke sensation, when the smoke flows out of my mouth, so i go clove ciggaretts witch have even thicker smoke.

2)i made it more difficult because i smoked hookah which has nicotine. Stay away from hooka
First you must decide whether eating more is better or smoking. Obvious answer is eating more Now question arises how to regulate this over eating.Again answer is low calorie food, high fibre food which makes you feel full - lots of fruits.
I have gone through the same experience 15 years back when I gave up smoking totally. I started over eating because the same food was tasting lot better, I was feeling more hungry. Over the time, I shifted to healthier foods. I now feel fit. My coughing - panting when climbing stairs has vanished. Take my advice. Give up smoking immediately. You may not get the urge again..
Chew some gum or suck a sucker when you are wanting to eat something!

Does anyone know what the name of the prescripion medication that can be obtained from a doctor in if they have had any success? I have chemist products but not successfully

Betty
Chantix. It has about an 80% success rate. the rest really do not want to quit.

I quite cold turkey 4 months ago and I still crave every time I drive.
Hello Betty,

It is good to hear that you want to kick the habit! I personally found the guide offered at
http://www.stoppingsmokingtips.net
to be very helpful when I quit smoking. Good luck to you!
the best thing for quiting smoking is a good dose of will power. all your nicotiene replacement things are useless without the burning - desperate desire to stop
Hi, Betty!

First off, congratulations on wanting to quit smoking! The best advice I can offer is to be ready to quit and to have a desire to live healthy. Once you start changing your habits to live healthier, smoking will be much easier to quit!

I think the medication you are talking about is Chantix. I tried Chantix, but it didn-t work for me.

Here-s what I-ve tried, what hasn-t worked, and what has.

I tried Chantix, but I had to stop taking it because of the side effects. I normally never suffer side effects to any medications and I have no known allergies, so I was bumbed when I couldn’t take it. Turns out there are lots of people who have problems with Chantix. But, then again, it works great from many people too, so it might be worth a shot, if you tried everything else.

Some of the side effects I experienced were an altered sense of smell and taste, anxiety, just feeling “weird”. I don’t really know how else to describe it, but I didn’t feel right and as soon as I stopped taking Chantix, I felt normal again. I really hated that everything I ate tasted terrible, I couldn’t enjoy my meals. Most smells were nauseatiung too, even nice scents. It was so annoying. I’ve looked around on several forums and this seems to be a common side effect. Personally, the withdrawal symptoms I had experienced in the past when doing the cold turkey thing were much more tolerable than the side effects of Chantix.

I also tried Wellbutrin (Zyban). It worked, but I went back to smoking 6 months later. And the bad thing about Wellbutrin is that it only works the first time you try it. Wellbutrin doesn’t work if you go back to smoking and try to use it to quit a second time. It also gives you really bad dry mouth, but that subsides after several weeks. I looked at it as a plus because it kept me drinking more water than usual, and that’s always a good thing.

If you are looking for something NATURAL that really works, with no side effects, I have 2 recommendations. I tried everything (patch, gum, cold turkey, prescription meds, etc.) in the past to quit and nothing worked as good as this. I recommend it to everyone! I did both of these and have been cigarette free for 2 years and do not ever have cravings! It is so great, and I just want to share it with anyone who really wants to quit. You WILL stop smoking for good. It will change your life. Everyone I have recommended this product to has quit! You can get all the info here:

I wish you the best of luck no matter which of the many available methods you decide to use.

What is the best way to quit smoking?? -

I ordered CigArrest with the pills and the gum. I was wondering if anybody out there has tried this. And if anyone had any tips.
Quit slowly and not cold turkey. Patches fail largely because of the habit of having something to do with your hands.

I smoked 1 1/2 packs a day and quit 3 years ago. What I did was FIRST- stopped buying cigarettes. I bummed cigs off of anyone for awhile, then it got annoying to beg for cigs. But I kept the mindset of buying cigs are bad. Smoking was still OK.
SECOND: bumming cigs got old fast, I started doing that less and less until I was just smoking while drinking or in social situations where many other people were smoking.

TIP: Let everyone know you are trying to quit. You will find even smokers trying to help you out... it was impossible to bm smokes off of friends who knew I was trying to quit.

THIRD: After about 4 months I could smell the smoke of my smoker friends and was disgusted by it and realized that I had no desire to have any part of that anymore. I had also started to experience more energy and better lung support in my daily activities. I never felt better and when it came to a night out drinking, I had begun to not feel the need to smoke.

Occassionally I still feel the urge to smoke, and when I-m really stressed I-ll bum a puff off of someone. But one puff and I-m done, it-s too much now and it kind of helps remind me of why I quit. I-d say I-ve taken 2 drags in the last year.

TIP: Give your hands something to do. I started playing with rubber bands. Also, chew gum or even better... a toothpick habit. It-s the hand to mouth thing of cigs, but a heckuva lot healthier!
My husband tried a piece of niccorette at work the other day, he said that it worked for him pretty well, he didnt smoke a ciggerette for 3 hours after chewing it. What you do is chew it just a bit, then suck on it. And when the flavor starts to go away you chew it a lil more and repeat. I dont know how this would work for most people because for me the actual act of smoking is what I have trouble leaving behind, not the nicotine (I do crave it, but once Im past that I still want to have it just for the act) I dont know, it wont be easy no matter what, but if you want to quit you have to just not give in. Good luck with it.
There is a new quit smoking aid out there that completely eliminates the craving for cigarettes. It has no nicotine in it. It blocks the receptors that make you want a cigarette. Its new and alot of doctors don-t know about it yet and not all insurances cover it but my friend who smoked 1 to 2 pack a day quit and several of her friends. It is called chantix and I am looking at her package of them right now and there is an 800 number where you can ask questions about it. It is 1-877-chantix or go to www.chantix.com IT WORKS
Best way to quit smoking is to stop smoking... Simple as that..
I quit smoking 16 months ago. Before that I was only thinking about it and talking about it. There was no pressure from outside, it was purely a self-decision.

How did I do it?
I took help from www.nicotine-anonymous.org. I followed their techniques and kept posting and reading messages on their groups.

Well, during the initial hours and days all I did was drink plenty of water, prayed a lot, swam a lot, took a few days off and spent time with my family and a non-smoking friend and his family.

If you can stay away from smoking for 5 minutes, you can do it for 5 more minutes.

How badly do you want to do it?
Do you exercise? The more oxygen you take into your blood stream, the less you will want to smoke. I promise.
Read -The Easy Way To Stop Smoking- by Allen Carr. I heard great things about it and ended up buying it for me dad. Unfortunately, he hasn-t read it yet though.

http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Way-Stop-Smok…

u need the best of Medicine quit the smoking more information
http://www.skincarefairy.com

Ultimately I think old fashioned determination gets you through, and a change in thinking.

I tried nicotine gum and patches, gave me too much of a -rush-. I tried cold turkey, couldn-t sleep for days. Finally I tried Zyban, which I think is similar to Chantix, after a week it made me feel a bit strung out and edgy, so I stopped. By that time though I think my body was over the withdrawal, so it was a matter of mentally not going back to smoking.

I have gone two weeks without smoking and feel really good about that.

Being aware of the way you think about smoking helps. For me I used to think of smoking as a reward or comfort, or social thing to do.

For a while I would go outside in the front yard to smoke, a bit embarrassing really... helped me break the pattern...

Very best of luck to you!

Anybody with advice on how to quit smoking without gaining wheight?
You might also want to talk to your doctor about chantix.

Here-s a comparison of the most common drugs used to stop smoking, including their effectiveness and their side effects.

good luck with your efforts.
quit smoking gradually, let say you smoke 10 cigarettes a day the next two days 9, after 3days 8.....

exercise don|t eat sweets too much..
Hi there !
Please visit the neares city hospital and see the sufferings of the patients undergoing treatment for -cardiac ailments- and
-malignancy of the oral cavity-....If feasible talk to couple of them....Majority will give you the past history of smoking ....
Immediately you can feel the -urge- flowing into you, which gets converted into the -enthusiasm- and the -boost- required for stopping smoking !
Think about the -better tomorrow- awaiting you, think about the loved ones waiting for you at home, ...naturally the enthusiasm flows in..right ?
(I was a chronic smoker myself....and stopped it abruptly after 15 years...nobody forced me...first two weeks..the temptations would be too much...but dont give way...think about the better future for you and your loved ones...Now I congratulate myself for having taken such a bold decision then...)
Now for you ...
today...now ....take the decision...
dont keep it for tomorrow...
okay ?
best of luck and best wishes too...
exercise more, the reason you gain weight is that you-re body doen-t have to work so hard to get the oxygen in your blood stream around, so you-ll have to burn those extra calories on your own.
I quit smoking about 5 weeks ago, its really, really hard, but if I can do it, sweety, I promise you, you can!

I gained about 4/5 pounds in the first 3 weeks, I ate as I would normally do and exercised, but still gained that little bit of weight, becuase, my metabolism slowed down. The good news is that I already lost that weight and Im so happy that I quit!

The key to quiting is to EXERCISE!!!! But also, If you want to avoid gaining anything, you should try to snack on healthy food, such as carrots. And if you do gain a little bit of weight, please dont be discouraged, You can loose it after your comfortable with not smoking. I promise you, its worth it!!!!
I went on Chantix and I have actually lost a little weight.. I quit August 16.. Good Luck
the only way is cold turkey i,d love to join you stopping but i,m rolling a cigerette as i type
Why Zero Nico Really Works - http://zeronico.com/?getlook
Zero Nico is safe and easy to use. Each patch contains a dose of the most effective herbal ingredients, formulated to alleviate the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal while cleansing the system of all smoking-related toxins. To break free from smoking, you need to break free from nicotine. Unlike other stop smoking patches, Zero Nico-s all-natural formula eliminates, rather than replenishes, the level of nicotine in your body, helping you break the habit. www.naturalherbalz.com
I was trying to loss weight so i tried generic acomplia presricp. it is this new pill that is suppose to end obesity and may also curve smoking. I tried it for 30days and i didnt loose any weight but i could not stand the smell of cigs.. it has been 7 months now and i still do not even want to get near smoke... for me it did not make me loose any weight but i didnt gain it either and ended of quit smokin for good... even if i drink i don not have the urge
Chewing gum, water, water - more water and walk half hr everyday. I gave up 9 months ago, cold turkey and didn-t put any weight on because i found when i ate it made me feel like smoking more.... so i had a bottle of water with me always and let me tell ya... it works a treat!!! Just keep a bottle handy and sip it, then when you feel really peckish then go drink a glass full. Congrats, not easy but well worth it.

I just remembered... i drank lots of tea too.. because tea takes a while to drink, it kept me from raiding the cupboard. When i got really really bored and felt like eating for the sake of not smoking, i would make that cuppa and while i was drinking it i would remind myself how proud of myself i was/am.

I quit smoking in Janruary and smoked two cigarettes last night..? -

I feel horrible, did I undo all the repair my lungs were doing???? I only did it because I had a little too much wine at my companies party...I don-t usually have more than one glass and my inhibitions got lower I guess..I definately am on track today, but did I really mess my healing up?
I am sure your lungs was not happy as long as you are back on track you are only human it was a mistake relax. stay smoke free
If you had two cigarettes last night, then you didn-t really quit, you just waited longer time to have one. No, it won-t mess up your healing in the long run if you do decide to quit. Actually, you didn-t really smoke the cigarette, the cigarette smokes, all you do is suck.

It-s so good that you are making this huge effort to stop and you should be so happy that you made that decision. It shows that you actually have a brain. The two reasons a person decides to smoke, according to the Harvard study on stop smoking, is one, a death wish and two, to show people that you are in control of your life and no body is going to tell you what to do. Both reasons are stupid and once you are hooked, both emotional and physical addictions are hard to stop.

good luck to you
Hello friend

When you want to quit a habit, do not carry baggage of guilty feelings.

Any time do not feel guilty in case your resolve weakened. Make your defenses stronger.. Do not concentrate on leaving smoking because then smoking word is still there in our vocabulary..Instead affirm to yourself to leave smoking..
Visualise better health..

Yoga breathing especially alom vilom can help you further to improve your health and will power..

All the best..

Ok, you fell off the wagon. So just get back on the wagon, and start over. You went five months without a cigarette. Next time, you-ll go longer. How much longer? Only you know that.
No big deal, just don-t start buying packs again.
No ... Just don-t smoke again..
just quit again and you will be fine

Any simple and effective ways?
I quit 4 years ago using the patch. And I was smoking 4 packs a day. Each patch last 3 days even though it says to take them off and reapply every 24 hours. So i managed to get 6 weeks worth with 2 weeks worth of patches. I bought 21mg and 14mg. Believe me, leave on for 3 days each. And you will NOT have any urge to smoke while on the patch. Now I was able to go cold turkey after 6 weeks. I still got urges but they were weak ones.....easy to pass. Thats my story.

http://www.stop-smoking-tips.com/

When I quit Smoking back in 86 everyone i knew
or worked around smoked, My wife, family just
about everybody. The only way I was able to quit
was when I took a week off from work, went to
a motel, lock myself in, and sweated it out. I Lived
on orange juice - aspirin for a week, but I did it.
In my opinion don-t bother with any medications or such you will become reliant on them to stay away from smoking the best way is to be positive and exercise your will power to refrain from getting back to smoking.

Quit and start focusing on all the benefits of quitting smoking and leading a healthier lifestyle, just my opinion.

This is a site with some good information to help you out
Ask your doctor to put you on Welbutrin or Cialis. Me, my friend and her husband all took Welbutrin and quit. After the first week or so cigarettes don-t taste the same, they taste yucky, so you really don-t want to do it anymore. The hardest thing for me was in the car, so it took a little longer for me than my friends, but I haven-t had a cigarette in 12 days and don-t want one. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!
There is no simple way.
I have at one time, smoked 60 a day.
I decided to give up when I realised how much money was going up in smoke and going into other people-s pockets, you can buy a car with the money you save?
First I carried an unopened packet on me.
You will find that as you go with out a smoke in the early part. The temptation is easier to resist, if you tell yourself that you are not going to let a little bit of tobacco push you around.
You will find that as the time between the urge to smoke gets longer, the urge will get more intense until the 18th day when the worst will be over. If you do give in to the temptation?
Do not give up because if you give up the smoking, you will be a stronger person for it.
If you are in a group of smoker and they offer you a smoke decline by saying no thank you. you may find that some one will deliberately tempt you, but any weak person will give in.
It takes a very strong and smart person to say NO and not give in GOOD LUCK.

I-m 29 and haven-t had skin as spotty as this for about 10 years, usually my skin is greasy but smooth with only the odd spot, is this new outbreak due to stopping smoking and diet coke? how long is it likely to last? I-ve been drinking lots of water but i am still very spotty, help!
its called stress your body just stopped cold turkey whether you felt it or not you were under HUGE stress and it caused you to break out
My guess (and it is just a guess) is that you are stressed from withdrawal from nicotine and caffeine. Get some nicotine gum to help ease the symptoms from the nicotine withdrawal, and wean your self from Caffeine, no cold turkey. You will have a headache for about 2 weeks from the caffeine withdrawal. But is does go away eventually. I used the nicotine patch and quit smoking almost 3 years ago after being a smoker for 28 years. I got off caffeine about 10 years ago because I was having trouble sleeping at night.
stress. you have thrown yourself into disaray to fast. But hang in there and don-t give up.....
You may be inadvertantly touching your face more because you are not holding the cigarette anymore and also like what the other said, stress is incredibly harsh on your body. Good for you quitting smoking. Keep it up.

Trying to quit smoking but feel sick still ? -

Ive been getting sinus infections almost bi monthly for the past year and kept getting walking pneumonia so I decided to quit because the doctors said it would help not cure all my ailments... The question is I have not smoked in the past 11 days and Im finishing up my Levaquin for a sinus infection only a few days left of the antibiotic yet I still don-t feel better. Much improved from last weekend but still not there.... My question is I havent smoked in 11 days which takes alot more than that to cure your body but I still feel sick... The sinus pressure is gone but Ive got this spaced out feeling in my head and I feel chest congestion but no cough.... Is this normal I am on the patch for nicotine replacement Im just sick of feeling sick all the time and I dont want to go back to smoking please help
Congratulations, keep going, and try not to give up it will all be worth it in the end I gave up over a year and a half ago now. I too felt dizzy and at first my doctor thought it was high blood pressure as i felt as though at times I was on a ship! rocking and rolling, then she though It might be an inner ear infection because of my symptoms. But it was actually the giving up of smoking. I feel great now. still have a wee craving now and then though!
But I feel my house, my clothes, my hair, all smell cleaner for giving up. (Now I know what my daughter meant when she said Gosh! Mum! you smell like an ash tray)
As I can smell the least little thing now.
Congrats again, and keep up the good work.
well done sweetie its been 11 days keep going, when i quit i felt so sick and kept getting colds and was ill for quite some time, it is just your bodies way of clearing out all the bad stuff you have been inhaling for years after about a month i felt a lot better and i tried patches and as my nurse said to me yes they can make you feel sick but the side affects of the patches are far better than the damage you do smoking, it is hard but you will feel better, keep up the good work honey your doing a great job.
Some people have reactions to the patches. I did when I tried them. I finally went cold turkey (after a heart attack) and have been smoke free for over a year now. See your doctor and he should be able to recommend something other than the patches. Good luck and remember that you CAN do it.
Whatever you do, keep going!! I-m an ex-smoker (over 30 years) and stopped because I had a heart attack last year. It all comes down to willpower, so don-t weaken. I can guarantee it will be worth it, both medically and financially. To help you with the -fight-, this is what happens when you give up -

Within 20 minutes: Your blood pressure and pulse rate drop to normal. Body temperature of hands and feet increase to normal.
Within eight hours: Carbon monoxide level in the blood drops to normal and oxygen levels in blood rise to normal. Smoker-s breath disappears.
Within 24 hours: Chance of a heart attack decreases.
Within 48 hours: Nerve endings start regrowing. Ability to taste and smell enhances.
Within three days: You-ll breath easier.
Within two weeks to three months: Circulation improves. Walking becomes easier. Lung function increases up to 30 per cent.
Within one to nine months: You-ll cough less. Sinus congestion and shortness of breath decrease. The cilia that sweep debris from your lungs will grow back. You-ll feel more energetic.
Within one year: Excess risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker.
Within two years: Your heart attack risk drops to near normal.
Within five years: Lung cancer death rate for average former smoker decreases by almost half. Stroke risk is reduced to that of a non-smoker five to ten years after quitting. Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, and esophagus, is half that of a smokers.
Within 10 years: Lung cancer death rate is similar to that of a non-smoker-s. Pre-cancerous cells are replaced. Risk of cancer of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases.
Within 15 years: Your risk of coronary heart disease is that of a non-smoker-s.

All good, eh? Good luck.
it will take at least a month or so to feel better. please take some vitamins because smoking depletes your body of important vitamins that you need. Get on a healthy diet and I promise you-ll feel much better!
Quite natural, giving up smoking is hard. It made me feel really odd, [not nice odd]. Personally I couldn-t handle the patches, they made me feel ill. As you know it does get better/ easier. Good luck, keep it up !
You may be having a reaction to quitting smoking. Stick with it - it will wear off gradually. You-re right, it takes more than 11 days for you to get significant health benefits from quitting; but 11 days is better than none!

If you still feel sick, it could also be the infection. Have you tried nasal irrigation for the sinus problem? If you feel chest congestion, it could be a return of the pneumonia. I-d go back to the doctor asap and get your chest checked out.
It will take time. I quit smoking 4 days ago with Chantix. I didn-t want to replace nicotine, I wanted to get rid of it. You will get better, but there isn-t a miricle cure for sinuses, congestion, pneumonia, etc..

Good luck and stick with it.
Gernot S: What gives you the right to call anyone stupid?
If you didn`t like the question you should not have answered it. People like you are always very lonely.
I THINK U MUST HAVE SMOKED FOR A LONG TIME AND THAT SMOKE MUST HAVE GOT STORED IN UR CHEST AND MAKING U DIFFICULT TO BREATH. ITS GOOD U STOPPED SMOKING OR ELSE U CAN SUFFER FROM BRONCITISOR EMPHYSEMA. I-L TELL U WAT IS THESE DISEASE. emphysema breaks down the alveoli. the one or more substance in tobacco smoke weakens the walls of the alveoli. bronchitis stops the cilia in the air passages from beating and so the irritant substances in the smoke and the excess mucus collects in the the bronchi. it is located in the lungs. ask ur doc whether any of these are the problems. if not then pls send ur symptoms properly and i-ll explain it. sometimes becoz ur addicted u cant stay without one dose. u feel uneasy. as people say a smoker cannot go to the bathroom without smoking.
Congratulations for not smoking for 11 days. There is some improvement in your health, as you say, so try to be patient.
Try to drink lots of liquids, and sleep and rest as much as you can. These two things help your body recover from infection and clean up the toxins taken in with smoking. Your brain needs the rest also, to recover from probably years of being under the stimulant effects of nicotine. Some light walking is all right, but I would not recommend any heavy duty exercise when you feel light headed and you have an infection. Feeling lightheaded may also be a part of the symptoms some of which we all go through when quitting smoking. Just hang in there, you know, you are doing the right thing and should be proud of yourself. It is OK to see your doc again if you find things are not going quite right.
Get well soon!
You have a stupid screen name, and also a stupid habit, in smoking. It is excelent that you have given up. Try to stop endlessly thinking about how you feel. Go for a walk, take a bike ride, get some exercise., Think healthy - BE healthy.

first stop thinking of it as your friend and do some meditation and self motivated mental talk to yourself.eg-- I am a non smoker--
also have a back up plan for four weeks because your hands wont know what to do eg drawing knitting.buy lollie pops you only need them for about four weeks but they are good to suck on they last longer than gum(the flavour)
fold you arms over left hand on right shoulder and right hand on left shoulder, close your eyes and imagine the happiest you have ever been when you were not smoking and really be in that momentremember this each time you feel like a smoke.it helps the brain re wire. GOOD LUCK! you can do it
Just observe when, how and which tempts you to smoke.Think alternatives for that tempting moments.Exactly the moment when you get temptation to smoke, immediately go fill your stomach with plain water.Filling means you should feel bloating in your stomach. It is difficult but that is the simplest way to quit any addiction.
You need to learn some yoga also, which helps you to control yourself.
I-ve never been a smoker, but I know people that have, and were able to kick the habit. My dad was able to quit cold turkey. My roommate, however, is just now trying to quit. What she is doing is -weening- herself off by smoking less each day and changing over to lights and ultralights. Even though I have never smoked, I can certainly understand why it can be hard, because you-re system is dependant on nicotene.
Personally, I think you can talk yourself out of it. Think of all the bad health effects it has. Whenever you want a cigarette, try to do something that you know will keep you-re mind busy and off of smoking.

Good Luck to you on you-re quest to quit smoking. :)
I quit smoking nearly 4 years ago, here are some tips that really helped me.
I wrote down the main positive reasons why I wanted to quit and kept it with me all the time and when I felt the urge to smoke, I read my list.
I opened up a bank account and transferred the cash I would have spent on cigarettes and spent the money on really extravagent things that I would never have bought as a smoker.
I took several deep breaths when I had a craving, I went for a 5 minute walk when I normally would have had a cigarette break at work, I booked myself facials and treated myself to massages to help get me through.
Drinking fresh orange juice helped aswell.
I also used to imagine what my loved ones would do if I told them I had a terminal illness due to the fact that I smoked, its not nice.

You can do it, if I can, anyone can! I smoked 20-25 a day for 15 years

Good Luck, it will be the best thing you have ever done, I promise
xxxx
I smoked for over 40 years, having quit and gone back several times. I finally tried something new and have been smoke-free for about a year. This is what I did: whenever I wanted a cigarette, I-d smoke half of one. I did that for a couple of weeks, then I-d just take about four or five puffs, only smoking every other time I wanted a cigarette. I did that for a couple of weeks until I was down to 2 drags on a cigarette, maybe 4 times a day. Then, I decided that when that pack ran out, I-d buy no more.
Quitting cold turkey is just about as effective as quitting heroin cold turkey. Your body is just as addicted to nicotine and you have to wean yourself off it, like heroin addicts do with methadone. If you quit cold turkey, the craving is huge, while weaning yourself off of it, there is no craving left and your body is accustomed to being without it. Good Luck, my friend!
yes. first find something that you associate as absolutely disgusting, e.g. garbage, rotten and bad smelling fruit. then with the thought fresh in your mind (and possibly the disgusting thing in front of you), pull out a cigarette, and when you feel like having it, think (and smell if you are brave enough!) of the bad item. you might then just not fancy the cigarette anymore.

this ddoes require willpower and something you reallly dislike (preferably a bad smelling substance or food), but when it works it works like a treat.

this psychological trick teaches the brain to associate the bad item whenever you get the craving for the cigarette, possibly putting you off it. this tip can even work for other things, such as chocolate.

you can use this trick in conjuction with other things such as nicotine patches s well, if you wants
I think smoking is injurious to health everybody is aware of. The best tip is do meditation it really helps. The most important is unless n until u r not having a strong will power u cannot quit and u cannot resist urself from smoking. I-ll give u my husband-s example he use to smoke at least thrice a day everybody use to tell him a lot but he never stopped, one fine day when my child grew up and he saw one advertise of smoking is injurious for health on TV and told him -look pop how injurious it is when I’ll be of ur age I’ll never smoke . and believe me that was the instance which hit his mind and the very next moment he quit smoking. I don’t know when something will click to ur mind but my genuine advice to u is try meditation it will really help u to quit smoking. Keep trying n I’m sure one day definitely u-ll succeed. Good Luck
Zyban is a wonderful aid to quit smoking... it worked miracles for me. I took Zyban in combination with the patch, and have been smoke free for over 8 years...and have never ever had a craving to go back to it. Zyban works on the -mental- aspects of the addiction, while the patch works on the nicotine addiction... it was so easy for me to quick. Never got bitchy, no withdrawl symptoms...easiest thing I ever did.
think about the benefits of quiting. You will also see positive changes in your life. because smoking contaminates your thoughts, and you tend to smoke to numb yourself from everydays problems or stress. Also, it is always a short term solution to smoke. You will be able to deal with your problems in a more positive way after smoking.
There is a very effective way try this.Eat Narthangai pickle(couldn-t find exact english word.)It is a citrus fruit.Somewhat bigger than lemon. The pickle has slightly bitter taste. One who consumes this pickle regularly, will dislike the taste of liqour and cigars.I heard it from a sidha doctor.Good luck.
Go to the gym or for a bike ride and see how hard it is to breathe when you-re a smoker, than you-ll think if it-s worth. Sport is a great thing to do, find a hobby, decide you want to be healthy and lead a healthy lifestyle and stick to it :) Good luck
Just think -people know me as a coward, unsocial, harmful to my family / children and others, some of them also hate me-. If you can feel this you will get the power to quit any bad habit.
its simple jst think abt u r future and health...u may spent 50bugs per day but at one day u may(will)spend 50crores for ur health.
today u can consider abt cigg but tomro u r heart - lungs may get vanish.,
so plz stop somking just simply by thinking abt u r future 0ok.
Go to any homeopathy shoop and ask for anti smoking pills.

Hi,
If you realy wants to quit smoking then you should know some facts.

This is for your information pl. that Cigarette smoking kills nearly about 420,000 people a year, making it more lethal than AIDS, accidents, homicides, suicides, drug overdoses, and fire.

The main risks of smoking are

1. Heart disease
2. Cancer
3. Dementia and neurologic diseases
4. Lung disease
5. Female infertility and pregnancy
6. Male sexuality and reproduction
7. Behavioural and Social Problems
8. Effects on bones and joints

The methods to quit smoking are

At this time the most effective methods for quitting is a combination of nicotine replacement products and the antidepressant drug bupropion bolstered by counselling.

1. Nicotine replacement

Nicotine replacement products provide low doses of nicotine that do not contain the contaminants found in smoke. They are proving to be twice as helpful as other standard quitting methods. Replacement products include nicotine patches, gums, nasal sprays, and inhalers. Side effects of any nicotine replacement product may include headaches, nausea, and other gastrointestinal problems. People often experience sleeplessness in the first few days, particularly with the patch, but the insomnia usually passes. Patients using very high doses are more likely to experience symptoms, and reducing the dose can prevent them. Certain individuals like people with heart disease, pregnant women, small children may need to avoid nicotine replacement products.

Nicotine patches: Nicotine patches, or transdermal nicotine, can be an effective way to quit smoking. The quit rate for patch users is around 20% after six months. Nicotine patches are available over the counter, but it is best to consult a doctor before using them, particularly people with any medical problems.

Nicotine gum: Nicotine gum (Nicorette), available over the counter, has also been effective for a number of people. Some prefer it to the patch because they can control the nicotine dosage and chewing satisfies the oral urge. Long-term dependence may be a problem with this method.

Nicotine inhaler: The nicotine inhaler resembles a plastic cigarette holder. It comes with a number of nicotine cartridges which are inserted into the inhaler. It has some specific advantages over other slower nicotine replacement products:

Nicotine nasal spray: The nasal spray satisfies immediate cravings by providing doses of nicotine rapidly, and thus may play a useful role in conjunction with slower acting nicotine replacement therapies.

Nicotine tablet: A nicotine tablet that is held under the tongue is also very useful.

2. Alternative and ther Methods for Quitting

Scheduled reduction: One study showed that people who used a systematic withdrawal schedule were twice as likely to quit as those who went cold turkey. The procedure involves the following steps:

Divide the number of minutes per day awake by the number of daily cigarettes; the result is the minute-long wait between smokes.

Set up a schedule with time intervals based on this result and using a timer, smoke only at those intervals; if the -cigarette appointment- is missed by more than five minutes, the smoker must skip that cigarette.

The following week, one-third fewer cigarettes are used and the smoking time is recalculated based on the lower number.

During the third week the count is again reduced by a third, and the smoker quits in the fourth week.
Change daily habits:

Change the daily schedule as much as possible. Eat at different times or eat many small meals instead of three large ones, sit in a different chair, rearrange the furniture.

Find other ways to close a meal. Play a tape or CD, eat a piece of fruit, get up and make a phone call, or take a walk (a good distraction that burns calories as well).

Substitute oral habits (eat celery, chew sugarless gum, suck on a cinnamon stick.) Go to public places and restaurants where smoking is prohibited or restricted.

Set short-term quitting goals and reward yourself when they are met, or every day put the money normally spent on cigarettes in a jar and buy something pleasurable at the end of a predetermined period of time.

Find activities that focus the hands and mind but are not taxing or fattening: computer games, solitaire, knitting, sewing, whittling, crossword puzzles.

Avoid heavy drinking of alcohol, caffeine, or other stimulants or mood altering substances.

Weening off is the best way. That way you pace yourself to zero. Cold turkey you-ll just drive yourself and others crazy to the point to where you-ll want and start smoking again.
You might want to try those electronic cigarettes. I have alot of friends who have quit with those, and alot who use them as alternative smoking methods. So some quit with it, some smoke with it - but many have gotten away from the traditional cigarette, smells, and all of the stuff that is not wanted from smoking.

So if your interested, check out http://smoke-anywhere.org , they offer a fair price, and the product is easy to use -its not like the other ones out there which require nicotine mg vials, and dropping liquid etc. Its just simply 2 pieces, you screw it on and you smoke it - when its gone you put another on. Also it saves money, because you can smoke the equivalent of a carton for only 15$. They also have alot of flavors - regular, menthol, chocolatee, vanilla, coffee, etc.

Its quite the interesting device -- I think why this is so popular and proven to work is because its the only item out there to smoke that youactuallyy smoke, and it feels like you are smoking in the back of your throat, but without all those nasty poisons/chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes.

Something to think about it - has no smell, and no flames/ashes - this would prevent the smell most people are bothered by, and would mean no smelly ashtrays lingering either.

I have tried lozenges, and cold turkey - I acutally did it for over 8 months, but you dont acutally quit untill you quit -- and even after 8 months, i started again for several years theraefter.

This is the only method that has kept me from touching any tobacco products, and its alot more affordable then smoking - and healthier then smoking ( no tobacco, and no nasty smoke that comes with it, second-hand, etc). I use to smoke over a pack a day, and spend over 180$ a month - I am now only spending 30$ at most or so, for the refills for this thing, and I feel great. MY family is happy my wife is happy - my life is better, and I feel better. It-s win win!

Good luck on your chosen method! IT is rough, but it can be done! :)
It works for some and not for others. I did it years ago and it worked fine. There are some catches to quitting the habit and one is to keep busy and not think about smoking.

When you want a smoke try substituting a candy like life savers that lasts a few minutes (so long as you don-t chew). Without this kind of small aid you-ll lapse back to butts in no time.

Try not to get into eating a lot instead of smoking. Many do this and actually gain weight. This is a common problem as people eat when they crave a butt, but you can offset with exercise (will help breathing) and eat properly and do the candy or other substitute for a smoke.
Cold Turkey is most definitely the cheapest way.

If you-re trying to quit, that would be your first attempt.
Although I have not smoked, I think it is. My daughter quit cold turkey when she was in the hospital for surgery to get her gallbladder out. She went 11 days in there without a cigarette and when she got home they did not taste good to her anymore. My other daughter quits every time she don-t have money to buy some. lol
You will only quit cold turkey if you really want to pack up if you don-t it wont work
Good Luck anyway

How can I quit smoking and lose weight at the same time? -

Get some hypnosis to try to stop the eating binge.

Get some acupuncture to help get over the cigs craving.

Keep no-calorie vegetables nearby: celery, carrots. Don-t go junk food like pretzels or popcorn.

http://theaones.qsrnp.hop.clickbank.net

Get thee to a nunnery - or a monastery.
simple put down the cigs . everytime you want one go running eat stuff like carrots. stuff to keep youre hands busy . stay away from other smokers
We went to a hypnotist. Unfortunately it did not work for me. But the advice they give which did help me cut down was to change your routine. If you get up and have a cigarette in the morning and coffee change that. Instead have a piece of fruit which contains natural sugars. Do this throughout the day. I have cut down doing this and kept wieght off.
You could attend one of the detoxification courses.
Or administer your own.
Fast for 5 days on water only, or water and fruit juice, and you will get rid of the toxins, and the build up of gunge which accumulates in everybody-s intestines.
This generally weighs about 10 - 15 pounds, and will do the trick for you without any further weight loss.
Start by quitting a bad habit and substite or rplace with a new and healty one. Stop smoking, start an exercise routine and new eating habits.

What specific and measureable steps will help you to achieve this goal? what dimensions of health will be affected by trying to quit smoking?
My dad used to smoke, but he stopped. Here are some ideas/steps:

1. To get rid of smoking you can always try the replacements to it, patches or nicotine gum. Nicotine gum is more safer. Buy the Target brand. It is prooved test-safe.

2. Get rid of EVERYTHING smoke-related. Such as lighters, smoke boxes, cigarettes. And throw them out. It is a REALLY hard step. But it-s better doing this then getting cancer soon...

That-s all I got, Hope I have helped! :-)

Quit smoking book that works? -

I was told about a book that helps you quit smoking. The author encourages you to smoke while you are reading it but it-s supposed to work..Does anyone know the book or authors name?
Smoking while reading a stop smoking books makes perfect sense. You are constantly reading about smoking so it is natural that you will get cravings at this time.

If the book tells you to stop now than you will only get frustrated and throw it away. My partner and I have our own stop smoking system and we suggest to keep smoking while reading through it. Check it out if you are at all interested.

No, but you can try nicotine patches or gum or pills,
IDK. But just because it works for some it may not work for you. So don-t get too disappointed
google it.
