Is going cold turkey the best way to quit smoking cigarettes? -

Weening off is the best way. That way you pace yourself to zero. Cold turkey you-ll just drive yourself and others crazy to the point to where you-ll want and start smoking again.
You might want to try those electronic cigarettes. I have alot of friends who have quit with those, and alot who use them as alternative smoking methods. So some quit with it, some smoke with it - but many have gotten away from the traditional cigarette, smells, and all of the stuff that is not wanted from smoking.

So if your interested, check out http://smoke-anywhere.org , they offer a fair price, and the product is easy to use -its not like the other ones out there which require nicotine mg vials, and dropping liquid etc. Its just simply 2 pieces, you screw it on and you smoke it - when its gone you put another on. Also it saves money, because you can smoke the equivalent of a carton for only 15$. They also have alot of flavors - regular, menthol, chocolatee, vanilla, coffee, etc.

Its quite the interesting device -- I think why this is so popular and proven to work is because its the only item out there to smoke that youactuallyy smoke, and it feels like you are smoking in the back of your throat, but without all those nasty poisons/chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes.

Something to think about it - has no smell, and no flames/ashes - this would prevent the smell most people are bothered by, and would mean no smelly ashtrays lingering either.

I have tried lozenges, and cold turkey - I acutally did it for over 8 months, but you dont acutally quit untill you quit -- and even after 8 months, i started again for several years theraefter.

This is the only method that has kept me from touching any tobacco products, and its alot more affordable then smoking - and healthier then smoking ( no tobacco, and no nasty smoke that comes with it, second-hand, etc). I use to smoke over a pack a day, and spend over 180$ a month - I am now only spending 30$ at most or so, for the refills for this thing, and I feel great. MY family is happy my wife is happy - my life is better, and I feel better. It-s win win!

Good luck on your chosen method! IT is rough, but it can be done! :)
It works for some and not for others. I did it years ago and it worked fine. There are some catches to quitting the habit and one is to keep busy and not think about smoking.

When you want a smoke try substituting a candy like life savers that lasts a few minutes (so long as you don-t chew). Without this kind of small aid you-ll lapse back to butts in no time.

Try not to get into eating a lot instead of smoking. Many do this and actually gain weight. This is a common problem as people eat when they crave a butt, but you can offset with exercise (will help breathing) and eat properly and do the candy or other substitute for a smoke.
Cold Turkey is most definitely the cheapest way.

If you-re trying to quit, that would be your first attempt.
Although I have not smoked, I think it is. My daughter quit cold turkey when she was in the hospital for surgery to get her gallbladder out. She went 11 days in there without a cigarette and when she got home they did not taste good to her anymore. My other daughter quits every time she don-t have money to buy some. lol
You will only quit cold turkey if you really want to pack up if you don-t it wont work
Good Luck anyway
