How do I get my g/f too quit smoking its driving me nuts? -

everytime I turn around shes puffing
on a cig really getting on my nerves she
cant put em down I told her too quit she went
nuts this keeps up Im gona dump her
10 years ago my husband (boyfriend then) hated that I smoked cigarettes so he nagged and nagged. He banned me from smoking in the house which cut down how much I smoked. He then asked me not to smoke when I was at home at all and only do it at work which again cut down my smoking. He gave me a choice. Cigarettes or him. I chose him and haven-t smoked in 9-1/2 years and we-re happily married to this day.. It did take me a few months to quit as I couldn-t do it cold turkey.. I was a total -B- if you know what I mean but it was because of the nicotine withdrawels. They went away, food tasted better and no more coughing.. Good luck!
What made you start going out with her in the first place? I-m sure she smoked when you two started dating. You never give someone an ultimatum like that. You may end up on the short end of the stick. Either you accept her as is, or you tell her, you can-t handle it, and let her find someone who can.
If she wasn-t smoking when you two started dating, then obviously something you did, made her start, which isn-t good either. Maybe you should just move on, and let her find someone better. Someone who isn-t so insecure.
every time she lights up, put the cigarette out on her face

I started to run track at school but i have recentally quit smoking...? -

how long will it take for my lungs to get back to they way they were before i stared smoking? i have smoked for about 2 years at 1 pack a day. i quit like 2 days ago.
You have made a very wise decision. Remember quitting smoking is not a problem but sticking on your resolve requires some effort. Be careful, don-t start smoking again:

For further info on quitting smoking visit the following link:

http://www.ridbadhabits.com/smoking.html

Following info would answer your question:

20 Minutes After Quitting: Your heart rate drops.

12 hours After Quitting: Carbon monoxide level in your blood drops to normal.

2 Weeks to 3 Months After Quitting: Your heart attack risk begins to drop.Your lung function begins to improve.

1 to 9 Months After Quitting: Your Coughing and shortness of breath decrease.

1 Year After Quitting: Your added risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker’s.

5 Years After Quitting: Your stroke risk is reduced to that of a nonsmoker’s 5-15 years after quitting.

10 Years After Quitting: Your lung cancer death rate is about half that of a smoker’s. Your risk of cancers of the mouth, throat, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas decreases.

15 Years After Quitting: Your risk of coronary heart disease is back to that of a nonsmoker’s
5 to 10 years for recovery
sorry to tell you, but just one cigarette can cause damage. You may never get your lungs completely back.
first off, you will start smoking again you stupid addict. dont you know what it does to you and it is nasty. who likes a girl who smokes?no guy likes that cause its nasty and your lungs will never be the same as they used to because smoking does permanent damage to your lungs just like it permanently kills brain cells.
Probably many weeks or months of hard work before you can be able to breathe well enough for such physical activities. It takes that long for an out of shape person who has never smoked before. I-m not trying to discourage you from quiting and taking up track. Good job and good luck.

Sorry that I cannot specifically answer this.

Has anyone every experienced a tingling sensaton in their fingers when they quit smoking? -

I quit smoking 82 days ago and I have such a tingling all the time in my fingers. I smoked 30 years. I hear its my circulation getting back to normal but its really uncomfortable. i hope its not something more. Have you experienced this and if so was there anything you can do?
I felt it as well. I quit smoking almost 2 years ago, and I remember that annoying feeling. Do not worry, it will pass.
It-s a form of withdrawal symptom from a substance. When I go More that 3 days without my sleeping pills, my hands and fingers with tingle and go numb.
If you look to Eastern medicine, you will learn that the human body has hundreds of meridians which carry chi energy. The chi energy is experienced as a tingling sensation when these channels open up. The sensation in your fingers are indicative of this taking place in various parts of your body. In other words, its like someone opened the windows of your home to let fresh air blow in. The meridian on each finger correspond to meridians running vertically along the spine together with their subsidiary meridians. So its quite natural when you feel tingling sensation on your fingers, it is telling you that the meridians are clearing up.

I hope that this provides some help. You can learn more by visiting the site below.
yes, this is normal! its your body way of trying to get you to light up again, but given time the tingling sensation will eventually fade.
if i were you i would check with your doctor just in case ..it could be signs of other problems...just make sure to be safe
ill let ya know if and when i quit
If you are overweight that could be affecting you. It is probably your circulation returning to normal. If you are short of breath or overly tired as well you might want to see a doctor. Or if you are having chest pains.
I am so scared to quit smoking . . .
yes it is normal i had it too. i just quit myself good luck to you
It probally is your circulation. That-s what I was thinking before I saw you write it. I know I have that feeling when I am extremelly anxiesh(sp) so maybe you-re just thinking too much about it. I-d bring it up to your DR. just to be on the safe side.
yes and only my right hand trembles. my hand can-t stay still.smoking can change your body and it-s functions. It is normal for when your quitting the nicotine.

Has anyone taken the drug CHANTIX to quit smoking and has it worked for you? -

My wife took Chantix just as prescribed (one week on Chantix before quitting). She quit and when the first month ran out, she didn-t get the next one filled. She has been completely nicotine free for 2 months now and she is doing fine.

I dipped snuff for 30 years and quit COLD TURKEY on June 2 of this year. Yes, it was difficult the first week, but now I don-t even think about it and I certainly don-t miss it.

What it all comes down to is this, you have to WANT to quit. Have someone you respect there with you to help you past the tough times. YOU CAN QUIT - I PROMISE, YOU CAN DO IT!

GOOD LUCK!!! -
I did not but quit smoking one fine morning or afternoon. I just felt an invisible presence near me and felt as if some one is setting some switches in my brain and that is all. I never felt the desire to smoke again. Same thing with drink too.
my dad did take some type of drug to help with the smoking and yes it did work. also I know several people who went to a hypnotist for smoking and that also worked

smoking is the worst thing you can ever do to your body....please try anything to quit right away..
I took it for 2 weeks and didnt feel it helped, but I had given 100 % of my willpower to quit smoking and it has been since March22, and I have not had a cigarette.

I have a few friends (female) who took it and they said it worked good for them, however they did take it for all 3 months.

The biggest thing to remember, is you have to WANT to quit and you to give 100 PERCENT of your willpower.
quit being weak and quit, cold turkey.

good luck.
I haven-t taken it myself but I-ve talk to 3 people (one being my mom) and all of them have quit with Chantix. My mom quit in May and the other two quit a year ago. It-s good stuff! You just have to be ready. I also know two people that have been taking it for over a year and still smoke like crazy because they aren-t ready to give up the cigarettes.
I personally didn-t, but my close friend did and it helped her, she hasn-t smoked now for 4 months. My husbands boss also took it and he-s been smoke free for almost 2 months, and then a close friend to my husband took it and he hasn-t smoked for about 4 weeks, so I guess it could work. I quit smoking on my own cold turkey 6 years ago, and I-ll tell you, I STILL crave them now and again, but whats the point of starting back up now!! Well, good luck to you whatever you decide to do. I know it-s hard to quit, but it-s amazing how great you feel afterwards.

Why do people sometimes feel worse (physically) when they quit smoking? -

Why do people sometimes feel worse (physically) when they quit smoking? -

Because the body is craving nicotine, you can also suffer from a cough etc because your lungs start to clear out the build up of tar.
nicotine withdrawls
The body is accustomed to the nicotine ,so it takes some time to re-adjust . In time , the person will feel much better than he did when he smoked .
Your body is addicted to the drugs and it is gong through withdrawal. There are a variety of things that you can do to lesson the effect. Contact your local health care professionals for advice.

Is it true you gain weight after you quit smoking? -

Is it true you gain weight after you quit smoking? -

If so, what body processes induce this?
Yes. There are two reasons for this. For some reason, when you quit smoking, your metabolism slows down a bit. You also tend to eat more snacks to make up for the cigarette cravings so that-s adding extra calories to your daily intake, causing an increase in fat. If you want to avoid the weight gain, eat foods that are proven to increase metabolism and chew gum instead of snacking.
Nicotine burns up calories.
Most people eat more because they are looking to substitute for the smoking habit. They have to have something in their hands or in their mouth. and they tend to eat more snacky junk food type items. Candy is used to subsitute a cigerette.
It happens.. many times it-s becasue the smoker is looking for something to do with themselves so they take up eating as a substitute.
Yes, it is true. Nicotine in cigs increases the metabolism-s ability to burn calories, therefore when that nicotine is gone, the metabolism slows and people gain weight.
Yes you do. Nicotine has very specific action in your brain. One of those are related with hunger ( there′s a center deep down in your brain that controls hunger and satiety). So when you stop smoking the system takes some time to get the balance right again. You usually gain aproximately 4 to 6 pounds, so its no big deal. Its much more easier to loose those pounds than you imagine.
You do this because, when smoking you eat less. So after quitting you have to fill in the smoking with food. =]
Yes. I dunno why though. But you do for some reason.
I thought it was because you are bored in a way, without the usual sigarette and therefore you eat more. Also I thought, your work pauses are longer now you-ve stopped smoking, so more time to eat. But I never suffered from this. I always ate a lot, and did not gain any weight after quitting.
your body needs a lot of (food) energy to get rid of all the bad chemicals. Also nicotene is a stimulant like coffee - it speeds up your nervous system - burning more calories.

If I quit smoking when Im 35 will I be ok? -

If I quit smoking when Im 35 will I be ok? -

I-m 25 and I-ve been smoking for 2 years pack per day. The problem is I truely love smoking and being a smoker. If I quit when I-m about 35 will I still be healthy and not get cancer?
If you like smoking, then dont stop. Cigarettes are great, and i like girls that smoke too.
I don-t know if you will be ok or not, it just depends on your health.
I can tell you that at 35 it will be harder to stop.
There is also the premature wrinkles to consider. I wish I had quit when I was younger.
The sooner you quit, the better. There isn-t a magic amount of time that you have before you-re at risk for cancer or other health problems. Smoking has negative short term effects, as well as long term effects. The best thing to do is quit ASAP.

Keep this in mind, too: smoking has been linked to other health problems besides cancer. Breathing difficulties, like CPOD and athsma, heart failure and heart attack, dental problems, and skin problems are all possible side effects of smoking.

The longer you smoke, the harder it-s going to be to quit. There are all sorts of resources out there for you to help you quit. Think of the money you-ll save if you quit. That can be a big motivator for some people.
the damage is probably done already...my guess, but it couldn-t hurt to stop.
Its a lot easier to quit after smoking 2 years, than to quit after 12 years.
If you have been smoking a pack a day I would definitely say you will probably not be okay. People die from second hand smoke so I don-t see how you actually smoking is going to work out in the end. Obviously there is now way to know what will happen to you but the chances of you not only ending up with lung cancer are great but it also increases the risk of you having multiple other health problems.
Any time you quit is always going to be better for you, good luck
When you-re 35, you WILL get the long term effects of smoking

Think of all the little holes you-re making in your liver, and how many years you-re taking off of your life ever pack that you finish

My opinion, think of them like sweets, don-t over do it! Enjoy one after a stressful day, not a whole pack
no
If you quit A.S.A.P you might have a chance. After the age of 25 (more toward late twenties) the body will not repair itself as quickly or even at all. Even if you quit today it would still take about 3 to 5 years for you lung and body to clear the tar and toxins (the body-s ability to do this diminishes with age)
If you have to smoke something, smoke pot. Despite what most media and government info would have us think, independent scientific studies have shown that marijuana has a -anti-cancer- effect due to its anti-inflammatory properties only has very minor health risks (increased risk of chest colds and such) compared to tobacco and even alcohol (both are major carcinogens)
you can still get cancer from passive smoking, so i think there are still risks with smoking for an extra 10 years.
No one can give you that guarantee. Besides cigarettes do more than pose lung cancer problems. When you get to that age, it doesn-t mean anything will change either. I thought the same thing. Now I-m 50 and still puffing away.
peace
omg please stop right now! it stinks, costs, and ruins your body.
Sorry after 12 years pack per day it-s entirely possible there will be long-term effects. There-s a chance you won-t get cancer anyway but it-s quite likely so do you want to take the risk? I-m sorry for being blunt but the sooner you quit the better.

Trying to quit smoking, have bad cravings? -

how can i ignore the cravings? i am going on holiday this weekend so can-t smoke anyway. but how can i not get moody? and what can i do to ease them?
You can ignore them! Believe me! I quit the middle of last October, and have only smoked one cigarette and one cigar in those six months! Yes, I couldn-t resist the temptation about a month ago when I took my son-s truck in to have the A/C charged up and seen the mechanic smoking in the shop, and I asked to bum one from him which led me to buy a cigar the next day and smoke it. But, I still think that is exceptional restraint considering I was smoking about 3/4 of a pack a day! What happened that made me quit is that I caught a cold and started wheezing bad at night. It seemed as if a litter of puppies were in my bed whimpering when the room was completely quiet. What makes it so bad is that it is still going on now, and I have to use inhalers and an albuterol breathing fogger machine to make it quiet down. The wheezing on top of the nine years of breaking deadlines of when I had said that I was going to quit are what made me go ahead and do it. Those damn cigarettes will give you lung problems, high blood pressure, cancer, emphysema, and prostate problems if you-re a man. Which of the ones listed do I have now THAT I KNOW OF: high blood pressure, prostate problems, lung problems. The only ones I didn-t list are cancer and emphysema. So, go figure!
Every time you think you want a cigarette just think about one reason why your life is better without smoking.

As for getting moody, I don-t think there-s any way around it. If you-ve decided to stop using smoking as an emotional crutch, you-ll have to be willing to deal with more ups and downs. I gueess the advantage is that the good times you have will be better without smoking.
I feel for you bc I tried so many years to quit and just kept falling up until I got diagnosed with an incurable disease was when I quit cold turkey. I knew the health hazards etc...but just never thought it can happen to me...I-ve been smoke free now for 4 months (Praise the Lord) but wish I had quit long time ago before I ran into health problems. Hang out with people that don-t smoke that way you won-t be influenced. Try to keep busy, busy, busy. Sign up for something you always wanted to learn guitar or piano, gardening or photography. Maybe even health cooking class or even swimming, diving, aerobics, dance classes etc...
The more busy you keep yourself the less you-ll be tempted to smoke or eat after the smoking.

Take Vit. C, vit. E, multi-vit., calcium
Eat lots of fruits - veggies. Make your own fresh fruit - veggie juices.
Drink grn or blk tea 3xs a day.
Drink 8-10 glasses of water daily.

I have periodontal disease. Yesterday I had the deepcleaning. I quit smoking last week. Is 1 cig be horrible? -

I have periodontal gum disease and just found out last week, when I suddenly had excruciating pain. I quit smoking as soon as I found out. Yesterday I got the treatment, which was the deep cleaning. I feel alot better. I-m taking antibiotics 3 times daily. I REALLY want just ONE cigarette. Would one cigarette make me get back to the state I was at last week?
Periodontal Disease is a chronic disease that is the result of long term oral health neglect. The condition of your teeth, gums, and jaw bone levels will only continue to get worse unless you make some serious long term lifestyle changes. If not the result will eventually be the complete loss of your teeth. Depending on what stage the disease is at, you can hope to stop or at least slow down the progression. The only way to do this is to change your oral hygiene habits in an extreme way. You must begin brushing (especially at the gumline) 2-3x a day for at least 2 minutes at a time. You need to be flossing once a day and seeing your dentist (preferably a Periodontist) every three months. Just as importantly, you need to quit smoking! Smoking speeds up the progression of periodontal disease (not to mention all of the other health problems it causes). Do whatever you can to quit. Oral health is much more important than most people realize and i hope that you take this as serious as it is. Good luck!
One: OK. Two: tut-tut. Three: total blow-out.
Sure. Smoking is bad for the teeth and mouth. I have been there and regret it. The earlier you quit, the better you will be.
Whoa, don-t do it! Just one will erase all your progress, it will retrigger the addiction and you-ll smoke and smoke until you-re right back where you were.
I-ve tried just about every method there is out there and there is only one I can recommend - NLP! It eliminates the cravings.
Gum patches and all the other just did not cut it for me, not to mention cold turkey which was the hardest, I even tried the electric cig and it is just no match to the real thing.
Check out this article:

Good luck kicking the habit!

What is a good way to quit smoking? -

Chewing Gums.
And Ayurvedic harmless cigarettes.
You-ve really got to make the decision to quit, and then just do it - no trying, just do it and don-t stop doing it. Focus on the reasons you are quitting, not on what you think you are missing.

It may also help you to look at the underlying reason you smoke. So why do you smoke? Lonely, bored, fidgety, low confidence or self-esteem, caught up in peer pressure, an excuse to indulge in self-guilt and pity, or just an out-of-date habit you don-t need now?

Once you-ve quit for 48-72 hours, the nicotine is out of your blood and the rest of your addiction is in your head. The good news is that there are heaps of things you can do to replace your habit - and solve your underlying problems. Healthy snacks and things to do with your hands instead of putting a cig in your mouth, exercise, skills, hobbies and new activities to fill in your old smoking time, etc. All these make you feel good about yourself and give you the feeling of control over your life and future.

Educating yourself about what happens when you quit, what to do and so on, gives you a feeling of control. Have a look at this website below...If you join up for the newsletter, you get a free guide to making friends without a cigarette in your hands, and the rest of the site is full of information to make quitting a breeze.
Definately THE PATCH
My husband smoked for over 50 years and he used them and now is smoke free.
DO NOT SMOKE AT ALL WHEN YOU USE THEM THOUGH BECAUSE IT COULD KILL YOU. FOR REAL, THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
Talk to your doctor about your options. There are prescription drugs which can help ease smoking cessation. Or your doctor can get you in touch with a reputable program in your area to help you.

You might suffer some withdrawl symptoms like irratibility or changes in digestion or sleep patterns. Be prepared to ride those out. They will go away in about a week, so hang in there! Gum and patches are nicotine replacement products that will give your body the nicotine it craves, but there are 100 more chemicals in cigarettes! Gum or patches by itself won-t work. You need to address the psychological reasons as well. Make a list of things you will enjoy more now that you-ve quit smoking. Reward yourself when you-ve been smoke free a week, a month, a year.

And most importantly, forgive yourself for becoming addicted to cigarettes. And congratulate yourself on your smart decision!
When I tried, what worked for me was quitting cold turkey and when I had the urge for a smoke, I would go for a walk around the block. Pretty soon, I was walking three miles every day.

Only thing, I put on ten pounds (even with walking), so I started smoking again. I hope it works better for you. But, the walking did help with the urges. If it wasn-t for the weight gain, I would probably have never started again.

Good luck to you!!!
How can I stop using tobacco?

You have to make the decision to quit, but you don-t have to quit alone. Ask your family, friends, and doctor to help you. Quitting is hard, but you can do it if you have help and a plan.

Get ready. You don-t have to stop right away, but set a date to quit. Pick a time when you won-t have a lot of stress in your life. Get rid of ashtrays, lighters, or spit cups. Don-t let people smoke in your house.

Change your routine. For example, if you smoke after eating, take a walk instead.

Use medicine. It can help with cravings and stress. You can buy nicotine gum, lozenges, or patches without a prescription. Your doctor can also give you medicine, such as bupropion (Zyban) or varenicline tartrate (Chantix). Using nicotine replacement products and/or medicine doubles your chances of quitting tobacco for good.

Get support. Seek help from:
- Stop-smoking programs, such as the American Lung
Association-s Freedom from Smoking program.
- Support groups, such as Nicotine Anonymous.
- National tobacco quitline: 1-800-QUIT NOW or
(1-800-784- 8669).
-Counseling from doctors, nurses, or therapists.

Once you stop, stay committed. Don-t use tobacco at all-not even one pinch or puff
You are not going to believe this but I have a -Weight Loss Patch- that is patented and botanical. Quit Smoking In One Hour
Guaranteed
Could a One Hour Session Help You Stop Smoking?

Of course nobody can make you do what you don-t want to do, but if you really want to quit you could be free of the smoking habit in just one hour.

There is now a combination of hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) which can make it easier for you to achieve your goal of being a non-smoker.

Why People Don-t Stop Smoking

Most people know that by stopping they will save several thousand dollars a year. Most people know that they could add years to their life. And most people know that if they stop smoking right now, they could save their health - before it-s too late.

So, why do people continue to smoke? With more than 20 years combined experience in dealing with the mind, both in the USA and in the UK, we have found the answer to be the same all over the world. It all comes down to one thing...FEAR.

Fear that you-ll have to give up your crutch or pleasure
Fear that you won-t be able to enjoy life or handle stress
Fear that you will put on weight
Fear that you-ll have to go through an awful trauma to get free
Fear that you-ll never get completely free of the craving
All of these fears are just examples of one overriding fear. The one simple reason that you have not stopped smoking is that you:

Fear that it is going to be too painful and too difficult! But guess what ...

Hypnosis Makes it Easy

In fact, my unique hypnosis technique makes it so easy that after only one hour you-ll leave a happy non-smoker - not feeling deprived, not feeling that you-ve made a sacrifice, and not feeling any pain. Instead, you-ll have a huge sense of relief and elation that you have at last achieved what all smokers long to achieve, you have become a happy, permanent, non-smoker.

When smokers try to stop with other methods they suffer misery and depression caused by the feeling that they are being deprived of a pleasure or a crutch. The beauty of hypnosis, and the way we use hypnosis in particular, is that it removes this feeling of deprivation. It removes the need, and the desire, to smoke.

You won-t need useless aids, gimmicks, or substitutes. No nicotine gum or patches. No inhalers or nasal sprays. No needles or lasers. All that you have to do with hypnosis is sit back in a nice comfortable chair, and relax. It doesn-t get much easier than that!

Lifetime Guarantee

We have so much confidence in our methods that after years in practice we are still the only hypnotherapists that offer a lifetime guarantee. This means that if you ever start smoking again, whether it is two days or two years down the road, all that you have to do is give us a call and we get you back in at no extra charge. You may be wondering how we can offer our clients these free back up sessions for a lifetime...

95% Stop In One Hour

The reason we can offer our unique lifetime guarantee, is because we have such a high success rate. Literally, more than 95% of people stop in one hour, and the remainder stop in a free half-hour back up session. How do we consistently maintain such a high success rate, year in an year out with just a one hour session?

Our Unique Approach

Since the British Medical Association (BMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA) approved the use of clinical hypnosis in the 1950s, thousands of people have found hypnosis to be an effective way to stop smoking, lose weight, and otherwise improve their lives.

Of course, there are varying degrees of success with hypnosis because much depends upon the skill, experience, and general competence of the individual hypnotherapist - as well as the techniques
being used by them.

The beauty of our unique approach is that we use the best of traditional hypnotherapy techniques, and combine them with the new science of Neuro-
Linguistic Programming (NLP), which takes hypnosis to an even greater level of effectiveness.

One of the reasons why it-s not painful or difficult to stop smoking with our method, in fact, one of the reasons why it is so easy, is that we transfer the pleasure derived from smoking to a healthier habit of your choice (e.g. exercise, drinking more water, relaxation). This is the reason why, with us, there is NO unwanted weight gain or other problems associated with kicking the habit - the only side-effects are an increase in health, wealth, and freedom.

Nothing to Fear Everything to Gain

Hypnosis is possibly as old as mankind. The old myths and misconceptions about hypnosis have given way to proven, scientifically sound applications. Today the use of hypnosis is seen in a variety of fields including: medicine, dentistry, law enforcement, professional sports, and education.

Most people have a limited understanding of the positive results that can be achieved in a professionally controlled hypnosis session. We would like to dispel some of the myths and answer the most frequently asked questions about hypnosis.

How does hypnosis work? Our minds work on two levels - the conscious and the unconscious. We make decisions, think, and act with our conscious mind. The unconscious mind controls our habits. In the relaxed state known as hypnosis, we can communicate directly with the unconscious mind. This is why it is so quick and easy to change habits of a lifetime with hypnosis.

Will hypnosis work for me? Generally speaking, every normal person is -hypnotizable.- That is, people with an IQ of at least 70, and no severe mental disorders. Therefore, virtually anyone achieve successful results using hypnosis.

How will I know if I am hypnotized? Most people can-t tell the difference between the hypnotized and the waking states. Some people feel relaxed and lethargic, others feel a lightness. One thing that people do notice is an inexplicable change in their daily behaviours.

Is hypnosis safe? Hypnosis is completely safe. You are aware and in control at every moment and can terminate the session at any time. Hypnosis is not sleep, nor can you get -stuck- in a state of hypnosis. you can-t be made to do something against your will! Hypnosis is a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable experience.

How does hypnosis help me to kick the smoking habit? Because smoking is a habit, it is controlled by the unconscious mind. Since hypnosis and NLP work directly with the unconscious, this is the only method that makes sense! We can help you effortlessly transition into the healthy lifestyle of a happy non-smoker - it only takes one hour to quit.

by far the best (and really the only) way to quit smoking is this book.

Honestly I have found after many methods, that cold turkey was the best - most effective. I smoked 3 packs a day, for over 10 years - tried the patches, gums, toothpicks, nicotine inhalers, Zyban, etc.... - failed miserably at all of them. but when I just decided I was done - didnt want to die from lung cancer (heart disease, COPD, emphysema, or any other smoking related disease), I just quit! the physical addiction goes away in less than 24 hours! after that its all in your head, all mental! Mind over matter. just takes a little good old fashioned willpower. If I could do it, anyone could! My grandmother also gave up smoking cold turkey after 40 years of 3+ packs non filter cigarettes. trust me this is the best way! - I never gained a pound after quitting, I became healthier all around, - even started losing weight.
A Yahoo search for -how to quit smoking will give you a wealth of useful information and tips.

The way I did it was that I set a date to quit. Then I started cutting down each day the amount that I smoked. On the designated day, I saved one cigerette, I smoked it that morning and I havent had one since. Granted it was only 5 weeks ago but so far so good. Its only at times that I want one but I find something else to think about or do. Good Luck, I hope you find something that works.
Have enough will power to just stop and not wean yourself off. but if you are not strong enough, try a nicorette gum or using other aids to help. Some people chew gum or lollipops or carrots instead of having a cig in their mouth. Stay away from people that smoke help too.
Hyponosis and acupucture.
Get pregnant. lol. worked for me.
COLD TURKEY! throw everything out. Ciggs, lighters, ashtrays, open your windows, air out your home and car and be done with it, I smoked for many years and this is how I quit almost 3 years ago, couldn-t be happier and healthier!
find something else to be addicted to...
Hi ,
First of all, well done dreamfrog, great appraoch to quitting.
One technique in hypnotherapy uses a similar approach to this.
Without knowing why you actually started smoking I will say that cold turkey isn-t always the best answer, since the irritability can be overwhelming to most people, and the reasons for having started smoking in the first place play a big part in how you try to stop.

I would recommend you seek out a new interest, a hobby, an excercise plan in conjunction with your attempt at quitting.
This will help alleviate the associated stress.
I wish you the best!
A new medication called Chantix. It is available by prescription and works very well. Worked for me and I smoked for 27 years.
Ive been trying for years, just started the new drug Chantix. Been cigarette free for over 3 weeks, and it has been really easy. I only had one day of really having nicotine fits, then its been easy pretty much. Good luck!!
eat flowerseeds or eat gum
I have found the Homeopathic Medicine CALADIUM S in 1M potency once a week to be the best help in quitting smoking without any side effects or complications.
Take Care and God Bless
Cold turkey. Throw away all you ashtrays, cigarettes, lighters etc. Remember, your going to be miserable and moody and a pain in everyone-s *** but you won-t die if you don-t have that smoke.

Get used to cravings, they taper off but last for years. It-s been 6 years since I smoked and I still want one when things get rough. I-m stronger than that though!
Make a clear choice to quit and write it down on paper, and tell all your friends. You have a better chance of keeping your commitment if you tell people. Find an accountability partner, and stop cold turkey. Put all the money you would normally spend on cigarettes in a glass jar and go for a vacation in six months!
I know a guy that used the lozenger (SP?) but he also popped two tic tac and after awhile all he needed to use where the tic tacs

If i quit smoking and get over the addiction will i be able to have one socially every now and then? Or would.? -

I instantly start up the cravings again?
Once an addict. Always an addict. Nicotine breeds the need for nicotine. If you stop it, it lies dormant. If you wake the need up you will crave it once again
No. Take it from me; I tried it - in every way possible. You really think, HONESTLY, that you-ll be able to, but again dear, HONESTLY, you won-t, you can-t. I smoked for a very long time; approximately 25 years. I quit using nicorette gum. My sister used it and became addicted to that for a while; but who cares? She stopped that as well and we are free breathing, good smelling, non addicted (or even thinking about them) females. YOU can do it. Help is out there. With all the horrible deaths associated with smoking, for goodness sake, end it.

kind of regards and prayers to you,
If you quit it would be wise never to smoke ever again. I know a few people who keep falling into that trap. Non-smokers never smoke -socially.- You either smoke or you don-t. There is no in-between. Look after your health. If you know you are going into a situation where other people will be smoking, then chew on some gum or wear a nicotine patch. Just don-t accept any offers of a free cigarette. You need to start thinking like a non-smoker. Say NO - always. :-)
you would start the cravings up again! dont do it! N. O. P. E. (not one puff ever) www.quitnet.com!

i am on my 18th day of the quit!!
It-d throw you off the wagon. If you quit smoking, you have to be careful not to have another one as it-d be so easy to start up again!!
